I'm [XXX] from Brooks Alberta Canada. I purchased this car from a private seller here in Brooks last [XXX] named “Hein Teresa Lorraine” lives in [XXX], Brooks AB T1R 0R7" and she did not include all the details in her car that it has a recall issue with the engine which is the Knock Sensor Problem. After a couple of days of using it I experience engine malfunction, the oil pressure light is keeps on flickering and as I drove from Brooks going to Calgary the engine suddenly stalled and activates the “Lymp Mode”. I cannot able to move forward and almost hit by a huge truck because of that incident. I coordinated with Straightline Kia Medicine Hat that incident, they check the vehicle and test it, after several testings they proved that the vehicle has a engine recall backjob. The check engine code shows P01326 which is responsible for engine stalling while accelerating. Kia Manager "Kent" talk to me and promise me that he will do all the reports to replace the engine. He submitted the report to the engineering department of Kia for the engine replacement but they declined it due to lack of documentation proof for regular maintenance of the vehicle from the previous owner. I told them that i recently purchased the car and I cannot able to provide the previous oil change done with the vehicle. Unfortunately after 2 weeks of waiting for nothing, Kent refuse to do a follow up report on the said incident and telling me that I need to take my car and need to pay a certain amount for their job done to my vehicle. Even the car rental that they provided I am also shouldering the expense because Kent is insisting that my car is not covered by the warranty anymore. MY VEHICLE HAD A AN ILLUMINATED OIL LAMP ON THE CLUSTER AND AN OIL LEAK. ON [XXX] I TOOK MY 2011 KIA OF DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES TO INSPECT MY VEHICLE UNDER SAFETY CAMPAIGN 174 (SC174 SL THETA 2 - 2.4 L MPI ENGINE OIL PAN)- WHEN KIA OF DOWNTOWN RETURNED MY VEHICLE TO ME THE INVOICE STATED "OIL PAN WAS FOUND NOT LEAKING , OIL PRESSURE SWITCH WAS REPLACED" OVER THE NEXT FEW DAYS I NOTICED I STILL HAD AN OIL LEAK SO I MADE ANOTHER APPOINTMENT AT KIA OF DOWNTOWN LA TO ASK THEM TO LOOK AT THE OIL PAN AGAIN UNDER SC174 I BROUGHT IT BACK TO DOWNTOWN LA KIA ON [XXX] - THIS TIME I GOT A TEXT MESSAGE FROM THEM STATING "VERIFIED CUSTOMERS CONCERN UPON INSPECTION FOUND OIL PAN TO BE LEAKING FROM SEAL" AND AN ESTIMATE OF $845.84 TO REPAIR IT --- I CALLED AND SPOKE TO MY SERVICE ADVISOR AND SHE SAID MY 'WARRANTY WAS VOIDED BECAUSE OF OUTSIDE INFLUENCES" WHICH THEY SAID ARE SMALL SCRATCHES ON BOTTOM THE OIL PAN - I TOLD THEM I DONT THINK THEY CAN "VOID" A SAFTEY RECALL -- I NEXT CALLED KIA CORPORATE OFFICE AND OPENED A CASE -#[XXXXXXX] - SUPERVISOR NAMED 'RICHARD"OF CUSTOMER CARE TOLD ME ON RECORDED CALL THAT KIA CORPORTATE MADE AGREES WITH THE DECISION NOT TO REPLACE MY OIL PAN DUE TO THE SCRATCHES AT THE BOTTOM OF MY PAN THAT ARE NO WHERE NEAR THE MAIN SEAL. DID KIA VIOLATE ANY FEDERAL LAW BY ACKNOWLEDGING THE LEAK AT THE MAIN SEAL AND DENYING TO REPLACE THE OIL PAN AND RETURNING THE VEHICLE TO ME WITH A KNOWN SAFETY DEFECT - RECALL - SC174 DOES NOT MENTION ANY EXEMPTIONS FOR THE RECALL SUCH AS AGE, DAMAGE , NEGLIGENCE ETC. The contact owns a 2011 Kia Sportage. The contact received notification of the NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V101000 (Engine). The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact was unsure if there were any warning lights illuminated. The dealer was notified of the failure and of the recall notification. The contact was advised to take the vehicle to the dealer to be repaired. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the oil pressure switch, oil pan, and engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle remained at the dealer unrepaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that a follow-up call would follow; however, the contact had not received a response. The failure mileage was approximately 55,000.

No check engine light on. Driving down highway when car jerked hard, coasted to side of the road. Lights, radio, dashboard lights, window controls all work. Towed to mechanic was told engine needs to be replace.

Was driving home when car had it’s check engine light start flashing and car wouldn’t come up to speed. Went by local auto zone to check code given and it was associated with the KSDS recall update and the car is now in limp mode. Towed car to Peak Kia where it’s been for almost two months. They wanted me to tow it to Arapahoe Kia since they had previously replaced the engine (see complaint from 2019) and it now needs replacement again but it’s not covered under warranty again according to them since it’s a 2011 Kia. Not putting another cent into this car after paying over 7500 to replace the first MPI engine if Kia won’t cover replacement of faulty engine someone can have the car to investigate the engine issues and hold them accountable, be it the NHTSA or a lawyer. Kia even did the software update that put the engine in limp mode and still won’t do anything to cover a known defect.

Update to NHTSA (ODI #11679186) Subject: Update to ODI Complaint #11679186 – Kia America Written Response Body: Dear NHTSA Office of Defects Investigation, I am writing to provide an update to my ODI Complaint #11679186 regarding my 2011 Kia Sportage SX (VIN: [XXX] ), which caught fire while I was driving on [XXX]. On August 27, 2025, Kia America issued me a written response (attached). In this letter, Kia explicitly acknowledged: “Preliminary evaluation results show… the fire originated within the engine compartment area.” “The cause was unknown engine oil leaks allowing motor oil to contact hot exhaust surfaces of the engine that led to ignition.” Despite admitting the fire’s cause, Kia refused restitution, stating that the vehicle was “9 years and 163,000 miles outside of warranty.” I request that this letter be added to ODI Complaint #11679186 and considered in your analysis of Kia vehicle fire trends. I believe this documentation is significant in establishing that Kia recognizes the fire hazard but denies responsibility due to warranty expiration, which does not address the broader safety risk. On [XXX], my 2011 Kia Sportage SX (VIN: [XXX] ) caught fire while I was driving. The vehicle rapidly filled with smoke, causing throat and eye irritation from smoke inhalation. My insurance company declared the vehicle a total loss. Kia America (Case #[XXX]) acknowledged the incident and confirmed that a fire inspection would be conducted. The inspection was completed, but Kia has refused to release the findings or determine the cause. On [insert date], Kia denied my claim without explanation, despite the vehicle being a complete loss due to fire. This is a critical safety issue that could have caused severe injury or death. I am requesting NHTSA investigate the cause of the fire and Kia’s handling of post-incident safety reporting. Kia dealership sold me a used vehicle with an active and very recent URGENT safety recall with no remedy at this time! Knowing I’d be driving to and from daughters school & work every day with my child in it. I started to smell burning so I looked up issues the car may have to find out this information.

It's been close to 6 months since they did the hydraulic brake switch fuse recall. This is a pretty big deal with cars catching on fire out of nowhere. How long do they have to come up with a solution?

I have replaced the control arms on my vehicle 5 times since 2019. Now my vehicle has brake and steering issues resulting from this and the control arms are needed replacing again. This has caused me to wreck once and luckily it wasn’t life threatening but I am now afraid to drive the car

KIA issue a recall for my vehicle. Visited the dealership as instructed and the replacement part was not available. After a month and a half, they still don't know when they will receive the part. Driving a car with a safety recall (fire possible) is not ideal.

My complaint is in regard to your safety recall, 23V652. I received a letter notice stating my 2011 Kia Sportage is unsafe to drive. it may start a fire in the Hydraulic Electronic control unit (HECU) whether the car is parked and not being used or while driving. I consider the time for this recall to be unacceptable and would like immediate attention to fix my car.

The instrument cluster lights and gages stop working, service engine light stays on. The stereo and heating lights work until you turn on the headlights, then all lights go out. There has been thousands of posts looking for a solution to this problem and yet no definite fix for it.

My A/C didn't work, then I noticed that none of the interior lights worked either when I took it to the repair shop. After many tests, they sent my car to a KIA dealership where they diagnosed the problem as the main wiring assembly needed to be replaced.

Something is wrong with the output on the ECU/ECM. At first, my car would just randomly turn off and not start. This happened in the street at a red light, in parking lots and pulling into gas stations. Now the car does not turn on at all. I have a push to start so it clicks and tries to turn on. I took it to a mechanic and was first told it was the fuel pump, that was replaced but wasn't the issue. The vehicle was taken to a kia dealership who ran a test and showed the ecu/ecm was not giving enough output to tell the car to engage and start.

The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The contact recently received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V652000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic) and related the failure to the recall. The contact called on behalf of his girlfriend who owned a 2011 Kia Sportage. The contact stated that his girlfriend parked the vehicle at her driveway residence, and she discovered that the vehicle had caught on fire underneath the front. The fire department was called and the police arrived on the scene later. The fire was extinguished with water. It was unknown if a police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to an impound lot and later was declared a total loss by the insurance company. THE CAR HAS AWD AND THE REAR WHEEL DRIVE COUPLING FAILS WITHOUT WARNING LEAVING ONLY FRONT WHEEL DRIVE. I LIVE IN WISCONSIN AND THIS WAS DISCOVERED DURING A SNOW STORM, THE CAR GOT STUCK TRYING TO PULL OUT ONTO THE ROAD FRONT WHEELS SPINNING WITH NO REAR WHEEL ASSIST. I WAS PARK IN THE PARKING GARAGE OF MY WORK PLACE. THE TIME WAS BETWEEN 7:10AM TO7:15AM. I PUT THE CAR IN PARK. I STEPPED OUT OF THE CAR TO GET MY PURSE AND OTHER BAG ON THE GROUND. I LEFT CAR ON CAUSE I WAS LISTENING TO A SONG. I WAS LOOKING FOR AN APP ON MY PHONE TO SEE WHAT SONG WAS PLAYING. I THEN WALKED AROUND TO OTHER SIDE TO GET A BOOK THAT WAS IN PASSENGER SEAT. I WALKED BACK TO DRIVER SIDE STOOD THERE A MINUTE OR TWO STILL SEARCHING FOR APP ON PHONE ALL SUDDEN MY CAR STARTING TO ROLL BACK. I TRIED TO STOP THE CAR BY TRYING TO GET IN CAR TOO FAST DOOR HIT ME KNOCK ME DOWN MY LEGS GOT CAUGHT UNDER DOOR FLIP ME COMPLETELY AROUND. THEN CRASH TO WALL OF THE GARAGE. MY BACK GOT INJURED. THE STEERING WHEEL CONTROL IS NOT WORKING PROPERLY ESPECIALLY UNDER 60 MPH. I BELIEVE IT HAS A PROBLEM THAT COMES FROM THE FACTORY SETTINGS. I ALSO HAVE SEEN THAT MANY 2011 KIA SPORTAGE OWNERS HAVE THE SAME ISSUE WHICH IS VERY DANGEROUS BECAUSE IT BECOMES VERY HARD TO KEEP THE CAR IN THE LINE.

WHEN DRIVING OVER A SPEED BUMP, DIP OR UNEVEN ROAD YOU FEEL A VIBRATION IN THE STEERING WHEEL LIKE A SPRINGY FEELING AND YOU FEEL LIKE SOMETHING IS KNOCKING AGAINST SOMETHING UNDERNEATH THE CAR. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALING FOR INSPECTION. THE TECH CLAIMED HE COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THE TECH AND I TOOK A ROAD TEST TOGETHER, WITH ME IN THE CAR POINTING OUT WAS I WAS FEELING, IT WAS THEN THE TECH COULD FEEL IT UNDERSTOOD WHAT I WAS TALKING ABOUT. HIS FIRST THOUGHT WAS A BOLT CAME LOOSE ON THE RACK AND PINION. AFTER INSPECTION THAT WAS NOT THE PROBLEM AND SAID THE RACK AND PINION NEEDED FURTHER INSPECTION. A NEW RACK AND PINION WAS INSTALLED AND REMOVED DUE TO IT NOT BEING FAULTY. AFTER THE CAR BEING IN THE SHOP 9 DAYS WE STILL HAVE NO CONCLUSION. THE PROBLEM IS STILL THERE. I HAVE TO WAIT UP TO 35 DAYS FOR A KIA ENGINEER TO COME AND INSPECT MY CAR. WHILE THE CAR WAS IN THE SHOP I ALSO HAD THE REGULAR SERVICE DONE AND NEW FRONT BRAKES PUT ON. THE TECH TOOK MY CAR ON ANOTHER ROAD TEST BEFORE GIVING IT BACK TO ME. WHILE ON THAT ROAD TEST, MY AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON. THE TECH TOOK MY CAR BACK TO THE SHOP AND HAD TO REPLACE A CLOCK SPRING. AFTER PICKING UP MY CAR YESTERDAY WHILE DRIVING HOME I WAS DEALING WITH THE CAR PULLING TO ONE SIDE. FIRST IT PULLED TO THE RIGHT, THEN FOR THE REST OF THE RIDE HOME IT CONTINUED TO PULL TO THE LEFT. THE BRAKES DON'T FEEL RIGHT EITHER. YOU HAVE TO PUSH HARD AND EVEN WHILE YOUR PUSHING ON THE BRAKE ITS LIKE THE CAR DOESN'T WANT TO STOP. I THINK THERE IS AIR IN THE LINE, BUT NOT SURE. WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED ON LEVEL ROADWAY, VEHICLE VEERS SLIGHTLY TO LEFT OR RIGHT AND TAKES CONSTANT CORRECTIONS TO KEEP IT GOING STRAIGHT. I had the check engine light come on my Kia around September 2023. It stayed on and did not flash or anything. I had a hard time accelerating in car. I took it to get fixed on December 19,2023. They said it was the electronic wastegate actuator and I got it replaced. A month after that I was on the high way and all of my car lights came on the dashboard and a cloud of black smoke came out the exhaust pipe. I pulled over and got my car towed to dealership. They told me this time it was the engine. My car was held for 1 month to fix the engine. I have spent so much money in this car and I think this recall has alot to do with my issues with it.

A combination of the risk of fire with the electrical component and lack of resolution to repair said recall and a faulty engine has left me in a bind. Due to the recall and its lack of resolution I am unable to get the engine repaired because the recall has left the repair shops unwilling to take the risk of fire while repairing the vehicle.

EVERYONE I KNOW THERE BLUETOOTH WILL NOT WORK. MOST IMPORTANT THE CHECK ENGINE HAS BEEN ON EVERY TIME AND IT SAIDS THAT IS OXYGEN SENSOR IT GETS FIX WITH IN 7 MONTHS COMES BACK AGAIN WITH THE SAME ISSUE.

I BEGAN HAVING ISSUES WITH MY 2011 KIA SPORTAGE NOT STARTING. AT FIRST I THOUGHT I DIDN'T PUSH THE BRAKE AND PUSH CORRECTLY. BUT THIS BECAME MORE AND MORE FREQUENT AS TIME WENT ON. IN APRIL 2012, IT DIDN'T START 3 TIMES IN ONE DAY. I TOOK IT IN TO THE DEALER THE NEXT DAY AND THAT MORNING IT STARTED FOR THEM TO MOVE IT INTO THEIR GARAGE AND IT DIDN'T START AGAIN FOR THREE WEEKS. THE DEALERSHIP NOR TECH SUPPORT HAD ANY IDEA OF WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS, SO THEIR NEXT STEP WAS TO BEGIN REPLACING PARTS, FIRST THE FUSE BOX UNDER THE DASH, THEM SEVERAL DIFFERENT COMPUTER PARTS. THEY ENDED REPLACING 5 DIFFERENT PARTS IN THE CAR BEFORE THEY GOT IT STARTED. WHEN I ASKED WHAT CAUSED THE PROBLEM, THEY SAID THEY DIDN'T KNOW AND WOULD BE TURNING ALL THE "REPLACED" PARTS OVER TO THE TECHNICAL SUPPORT DEPT TO INVESTIGATE THE PARTS. I ASKED IF THEY WOULD LET ME KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS WHEN THE TECH FOLKS COMPLETED THEIR INVESTIGATION. THE SERVICE MGR TOLD ME THAT THEY WOULD NOT EVER BE NOTIFIED BY KIA TECH ABOUT WHAT CAUSED THE PROBLEM. I ASKED WHY, THEY SAID THAT KIA JUST NEVER TELLS THEM. SO IF THE PROBLEM HAPPENS AGAIN, THEY HAVE NO WAY OF IDENTIFYING THE ISSUE FOR ME OR ANY OTHER CUSTOMER. I HAVE NO FAITH IN KIA MOTORS NOR THEIR DEALERSHIPS. *JB

MY WIFE WAS DRIVING HER KIA SPORTAGE ON I-25 JUST NORTH OF CASTLE ROCK AT ABOUT 70 MPH WHEN THERE WAS A LOUD GUNSHOT NOISE AND SHE NOTICED THE SUNROOF HAD EXPLODED. SHE IS SURE THAT SHE DID NOT SEE ANYTHING STRIKE THE VEHICLE. THE SUNROOF INTERIOR SHADE WAS CLOSED SO GLASS DID NOT FALL DIRECTLY ON HER. SHE WAS SHOCKED AND SCARED. SHE WAS VERY UPSET THINKING ABOUT HOW IF THE SUNSHIELD HAD BEEN OPEN SHE WOULD HAVE BEEN INJURIED. I INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND COULD NOT SEE ANY POINT WHERE ROAD MATTER HAD STRUCK AND IT APPEARED TO HAVE JUST EXPLODED. THE VEHICLE IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION AND THIS WAS NOT A HOT OR COLD DAY. IN COLORADO IN SEPTEMBER THE ROADS ARE AT THEIR BEST, WITHOUT SAND FROM THE WINTER SEASON. I REMOVED THE LOOSE GLASS AND TOOK IT TO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP WHO TOLD ME IT WOULD BE ABOUT $1,200 TO $1,500 TO FIX. I CALLED KIA CUSTOMER SERVICE AND OPENED A CLAIM FOR WARRANTY. THE KIA SERVICE DEPARTMENT REPORTED TO KIA WARRANTY THEY WERE 99.9% SURE IT WAS CAUSED BY A ROCK. THERE IS NO EVIDENCE TO SUPPORT THIS BEYOND THE FACT IT EXPLODED. KIA DENIED THE WARRANTY CLAIM BASED IN THE SERVICE DEPARTMENTS RECOMMENDATIONS. THE KIA SERVICE DEPARTMENT THEN CALLED ME AND ADVISED ME THAT THEY WOULD NEED TO REPLACE THE RAILING SYSTEM TOO AND SO NOW IT WOULD BE $5,500 TO FIX. I WAS AWARE OF NATIONAL INVESTIGATIONS INTO THE EXPLODING SUNROOFS IN KIAS LIKE MINE. I PICKED UP MY VEHICLE WITHOUT HAVING IT FIXED AND NOW FIND MYSELF HAVING TO RENT A VEHICLE AS I ATTEMPT TO FIND THE BEST WAY TO HAVE THIS FIXED. I was driving 65mph on the Freeway and all of a sudden I have no power. I press acceleration to the floor and it done nothing. Code p200a Intake Manifold Code p420 Exhaust Manifold I couldn’t go no faster than 25/30 mph on an incline. I live in West Virginia so there’s inclines every few miles. I’ve been looking on the internet and I’m not the only one that is experiencing this. It needs to be fixed ASAP. And Dealership’s charge an arm and a leg for things like this. The parts alone are expensive. I believe it is going to get worse before it gets any better. So my opinion and many others say it needs to be a Recall on the 2011 KIA SPORTAGE 2.4L I4 FI DOHC 16V. ENTERING EXPRESSWAY PROBLEM EXCELLERATING TO SAFELY ENTER HIGHWAY.

ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, SMELLED SMOKE, AND THOUGHT I SAW SMOKE COMING OUT FROM WHERE THE ENGINE IS LOCATED, THIS HAPPENED WHILE I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK. I WAS ON MY WAY TO GROCERY STORE. I CAME OUT OF STORE TO LEAVE AND CAR WOULD NOT START. CAR WILL NOT STAY RUNNING UNLESS YOU USE GAS PEDAL AND BRAKE AT THE SAME TIME. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP 3 WEEKS AGO! IT IS STILL IN THE SHOP. I HAVE GOTTEN THE RUN AROUND AS TO EXACTLY WHAT THE PROBLEM IS, THEY SAID THE TIMING CHAIN WAS WAY OFF, AND THEY ALSO ORDERED OTHER PARTS KIA "APPROVED" BUT TRIED TO ORDER MORE PARTS THAT THEY THOUGHT WOULD HELP MY CAR SO THE MAN SAID BUT KIA DENIED THE REQUEST FOR THOSE. I DO NOT HAVE AN ITEMIZED LIST YET OF SPECIFICS. THE CAR ONLY HAD 67,000 MILES ON IT WHEN THIS HAPPENED. YES, I HAVE THE 100,000 MILE LIMITED WARRANTY AND WILL FIGHT THEM TOOTH AND NAIL IF THEY ATTEMPT TO CHARGE ME A DIME FOR AN ENGINE PROBLEM. IT WAS ALWAYS IN THE SHOP FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE WHEN NEEDED. I AM CONCERNED THIS IS ONE OF THE VEHICLES EVEN THOUGH IT IS NOT ON YOUR LIST OF DANGEROUS KIA'S. DEALERSHIP HAS TOLD ME IT WAS PROBABLY THE TIMING CHAIN THAT GAVE OFF THE "FIRE" SMELL AND THERE WOULD BE A BIT OF SMOKE. I DO NOT KNOW IF THIS IS TRUE. I HAVE ATTEMPTED TO REACH OUT TO KIA AND GET SOME ANSWERS BUT I AM GETTING THE RUNAROUND THERE AS WELL. I WANTED TO START THIS EARLY JUST IN CASE. I WILL FIND OUT ON MONDAY IF THE CAR IS FIXED, AND AT THAT TIME I SHOULD HAVE PAPERWORK TO SEND TO YOU. HELP! HOW ARE WE SUPPOSED TO KNOW IF THIS IS ONE OF THE OLD ENGINE RECALLS I SAW HAPPENED A FEW YEARS BACK THAT I WAS NOT INFORMED ABOUT? OR IF THE 2011 LX SPORTAGE IS A FIRE HAZARD VEHICLE AS WELL?

I PURCHASED THIS CAR AS FIRST OWNER. I MAINTAINED MY CAR AT DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPARTMENT WHERE I PURCHASED MY CAR. STARTING JULY 2016, MY CAR ENGINE WOULD SHUT DOWN RANDOMLY AS I WAS SLOWING DOWN AT TRAFFIC LIGHT OR FREEWAY RAMP LIGHT. THIS WAS NOT EXPECTED. I WAS REALLY SHOCKED AND SCARED THAT SOMEONE WOULD REAR-END MY CAR. I BROUGHT THE CAR TO DEALERSHIP SERVICE THREE TIMES. THEY CAN'T FIX IT AND CLAIMED THERE WAS NO CHECK ENGINE CODE FOR THEM TO FOLLOW-UP ON. IT GOT WORSE AS I DROVE THE CAR ON THE FREEWAY ABOUT 60 MPH FOR ABOUT 20 MINUTES. THE ENGINE WOULD SEIZED. IT FELT LIKE THE ENGINE EXPLODED. IT WAS SUPER SCARY AND UNSAFE. I FELT LIKE THE CAR COULD FREEZE AND POSSIBLY ROLL-OVER. I BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE AGAIN. THEY SAID IT WAS THE MAP SENSOR AND CHANGED IT. HOWEVER WITHIN A WEEK, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND IT WAS POINTING TO THE MAP SENSOR THAT THEY JUST CHANGED OUT. I SAW KIA SPORTAGE IS HAVING A RECALL. HOWEVER, THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPARTMENT SAID MY CAR WAS NOT PART OF THE RECALL. YET THE ISSUES DESCRIBED ON THE RECALL WERE SO SIMILAR TO MY CAR'S ISSUES. I AM TRULY WORRIED THAT MY LIFE AND MY FAMILY'S LIVES WOULD BE IN JEOPARDY IF I CONTINUE TO DRIVE THIS CAR. DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPARTMENT ONLY PUSHES ME AROUND TO OTHER DEALERSHIP SERVICE WITHOUT FIXING THE ISSUES. I REALLY DON'T WANT TO DIE IN A CAR ACCIDENT THAT'S NOT CAUSED BY MY FAULT BUT THE CAR'S MALFUNCTIONING POWER-TRAIN/ ENGINE/ OTHER ISSUES THAT THE DEALERSHIP WON'T FIX EVEN IF THE WARRANTY IS STILL OPEN AND VALID. The contact owns a 2011 Kia Sportage. The contact became aware that the VIN was included in NHTSA Campaign Numbers: 19V101000 (Engine) and 23V652000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic); however, the parts to do the recall repairs were not yet available. The local dealer, a second dealer, Team Kia of El Cajon (619-444-7200), and a third dealer, Kearny Mesa Kia (858 223-3131) were contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and a case was opened. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.

My 2011 kia sportage had a recall #23V65200. On [XXX] my radio started smoking and my headlights would not shut off even with car off and keys out. You had to unplug cable from battery for lights to go off and not run battery down. I called kia in bloomington indiana they said to not drive and call customer service to have towed. i called on [XXX] and talked to a lady, she was very rude and dismissive. Said they would not tow due to my kia being a 2011 it was to old and they would only tow if above 2015. She then said I had to pay and only if the lights and smoke was because of recall they would pay. But I did not know or have extra money for this and nowhere in our papers about recall does it say it had to be a certain year to tow, only to stop driving and call. So my disabled husband drove it to the dealership in bloomington on [XXX] and dropped off even though they were at risk. I did not hear anything from kia and called to make sure they received auto. They had said they found my car and did not know it was there on June 19th. My husband told a person there he dropped it off and I guess they didn't get messages. After having my car and me telling them what had happened they then said they fixed recall but would have to run a diagnostic for them to see if the other problems were because of it. Bloomington then said they could not say it was not because of the recall this happened they did not know. So they sent my car to headquarters to engineers is what bloomington told me. Did not hear from them again until July 19th stating again they were not sure. And we had to pay for diagnostic check of 195.00. On Aug 6th they messaged us and said they found issues but it was not because of recall. And we would have to pay roughly 2500.00 to fix, yet they stated my washer fluid was fine when in fact it is not hooked up, line broke. How is that? I said I was going to talk with someone and get back with them. My car is still there. I was driving down the highway at 55 mph with the cruise control on and when I came to a stoplight where I had to make a right, the brakes would not depress they were frozen or a hard break pedal. Apparently in 2023 Kia recalled 98,944 Kia Sportage SUVs due to a brake booster issue. My Kia is a 2011. It was very scary and I am having my vehicle towed to a Kia Dealership

2011 Kia Sportage engine stalling/failure. Has been having oil pressure/heating/oil feed line/consumption issues. Taken to a Kia dealership on multiple occasions for all routine maintenance, including every 3000 oil changes. Owner was told that a catalytic converter was needed in 2021 due to engine stalling/ failure while driving 55-60mph on highway to a rapid deceleration and vehicle would go >20mph. Owner had car towed to Kia dealership and had a new catalytic converter put on in 2021 by dealership. Then in 2022 same engine stalling occurred again. Taken back to dealership and was told car needed waste gate actuator replaced. Owner agreed to cost/repairs. Then during repair was told that another catalytic converter was needed due to sludge/clogging, when one was put on less than 1.5 years prior. With less than 20k miles on new one. Car engine continues failing and will not accelerate above 20-25 mph. Check engine light has come on and been diagnosed numerous times from 2018, when oil issues started to 2023. Both dealership and manufacture are aware of recurrent issues.

The engine light came on and it started making loud noise, then the car started pulling on its own and it stop in the middle of the road. My safety Issue was I had to keep my driver hood open so other visible drivers could know my car had an issue. later on, that day I took my car to the mechanic and the mechanic said I have an oil leak and that's why my car started acting like that. The mechanic told me my car was ready to go, so I paid him and left thinking my car was fine. I drive 6 miles away from the car shop and my car broke down in the middle of the road. so, I had to call the tow truck people to tow my car until I could really find out what's wrong with my car.

The contact owns a 2011 Kia Sportage. The contact stated while driving approximately 60 MPH, the cabin started filling up with white smoke and she could smell a burning plastic odor. The contact continued driving to her destination. The contact stated there was no warning light illuminated. Additionally, the contact attempted to place the vehicle into park(P) and the shift knob failed to move to park(P). The contact was able to shift to drive (D), neutral(N), and reverse(R). The contact drove the vehicle to an independent mechanic who took the console apart and was able to get the knob from being stuck. The vehicle had not been taken to a dealer to be diagnosed for the burning odor. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 155,000.

Airbag Clock Spring does not work properly. It has been recalled on other KIA's but not mine. I was told to just turn the steering wheel to get the cruise to work, but don't know if that will make the airbag work in case of an accident if it's not fixed!!

RECALL NO. 13V114 HAS STILL NOT BEEN RESOLVED. WITH NO PREDICABLE FREQUENCY, MY DAUGHTER'S CAR WILL SUDDENLY BE DIFFICULT TO SHIFT OUT OF PARK AND THE STEERING WILL BECOME MORE DIFFICULT, THE STABILITY CONTROL LIGHT WILL ILLUMINATE, THE CRUISE CONTROL WILL BE INOPERATIVE, THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES WILL BECOME INOPERATIVE, BECAUSE THE STOP LAMP SWITCH CONNECTED TO THE BRAKE PEDAL IS MALFUNCTIONING. I BELIEVE THIS CAN BE REPAIRED BY A REPLACEMENT STOP LAMP SWITCH, AT LEAST TEMPORARILY. I DO NOT KNOW IF KIA HAS AN ALTERNATE SWITCH AVAILABLE TO INSTALL. IT HAS BEEN ALMOST EIGHT YEARS SINCE THIS RECALL STARTED. PLEASE PUT PRESSURE ON KIA TO RESOLVE THIS PROBLEM. I WANT TO GET THIS PROBLEM FIXED ON MY DAUGHTER'S CAR BUT I'D RATHER NOT PAY FOR IT MYSELF, BUT I WANT TO GET IT REPAIRED THIS YEAR. THANK YOU!

PURCHASED VEHICLE AT A REPUTABLE DEALERSHIP IN MARCH 2019. ON JUNE 12,2020, VEHICLE WOULD NOT START WHILE STATIONARY IN THE DRIVEWAY OF MY RESIDENCE. ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE DIAGNOSED DEAD BATTERY. AS TIME WAIT ON ENGINE DETERIORATED THE CAR WOULD STOP AND NOT MOVE , EVEN WHILE DRIVING. BREAK LIGHTS GO OUT EVERY 3 MONTHS GOT A TICKET BECAUSE OF IT. THEN RADIO BURNT OUT , AFTER THOSE ISSUE . I GOT THE CAR BRAND NEW , ALL WAYS GOT OIL CHANGES AS WELL AS THE TUNE UPS. TOOK ISSUE TO KIA AND THEY KEPT SAYING EVERYTHING WAS FINE . AFTER THEY WORKED ON ISSUES THE BILL WAS OVER 1000 . AFTER ALL THE WORK DONE THERE IS STILL PROBLEMS WITH THE CAR. SEE ON CREDIT KARMA MY CAR HAS 5 RECALLS . I NEED A LETTER STATING THE RECALLS ON MY VEHICLE, BECAUSE KIA HAS NOT HELPED WITH THE PROBLEMS ON THE CAR AND I CAN'T AFFORD GETTING MORE WORK DONE ON THE CAR. SO I HAD PRETTY MUCH A FULL DAY OF DRIVING AND MY MANUAL TRANSMISSION 6 SPEED 2011 SPORTAGE, THAT UNTIL TODAY THE ONLY PROBLEM I NOTICED WAS THAT SOMETIMES TO ME IT FELT LIKE WHEN I UP SHIFTED OR BEGAN TO GO INTO FIRST THAT IT WASN'T GOING ALL THE WAY INTO GEAR; AND AT TIMES ON THE HIGHWAY IT WASNT ACCELERATING NORMALLY AND MY GAS MILEAGE IS ABOUT 50M LESS PER TANK THAN IT HAS BEEN THE PAST 5 MO.(FINANCED TO BUY AS OF MARCH). ACCORDING TO THE DEALERSHIP ONLY 1 PREVIOUS OWNER AND I'M NOT SURE WHAT WORK HAD BEEN ON IT PRIOR TO THE DEALERSHIP WE ARE BUYING THROUGH. SO TODAY CAR USE IN TOWN RUNNING COMPLETELY NORMAL SINCE 11AM THEN SUDDENLY AROUND 6:30 STARTED MAKING ALL KINDS OF NOISE TO ME A KNOCKING SOUND PLUS AN ALMOST LIKE REVVING SOUND MIXED IN. WE CAME STRAIGHT TO A GAS STATION AND CHECKED THE OIL WITH YELLOW DIPSTICK, AS WE ARE ALMOST DUE FOR A CHANGE, ADDED ABOUT A HALF A QUART AND STARTED IT AGAIN TO RUN THE OIL THRU AND SAME SOUNDS BUT LOUDER. WE THEN TURNED IT BACK OFF CALLED A MECHANIC FRIEND AND HE CAME AND SAID WITHOUT TAKING ANYTHING APART HE FELT IT COULD B A ROD. I THEN CALLED MY MOM TO COME PICK UP MY 3 YOUNG KIDS WITH ME TO TAKE THEM TO HER HOUSE OUT OF THE TX HEAT WHILE WE ATTEMPT DRIVING HOME. STARTED IT UP AGAIN AROUND 8:30 TO HEAD THE HALF MILE HOME AND VERY FAINTLY COULD HEAR STILL A KNOCKING AND ACCELERATED SLOWLY. IM MOT A CAR GENIUS OR ANYTHING BUT NOT KNOWING THE VEHICLES PERSONAL HISTORY PRIOR TO MARCH OF THIS YEAR I AM WORRIED TO DRIVE ON HIGHWAY THE 40-50 MILE DISTANCE TO GET TO THE NEAREST KIA WORKSHOP. I ABSOLUTELY LOVED MY SOCCER MOM CAR UNTIL TODAY AND NOW IM AFRRAID TO DRIVE IT AFTER READING THE RECALLS. IS MY VEHICLE A PART OF ANY RECALL? MY CLUTCH IT NEW AND MY FUEL PUMP AS WELL ACCORDING TO THE DEALERSHIP WE ARE BUYING THROUGH SO I KNOW IT ISNT THAT. JUST WANT TO FEEL SAFE AND HAVE MY COMMUTE BACK TO NORMAL AGAIN...WHAT'S GOING ON??

ONE DAY MY EX WIFE DROVE WHAT IS NOW MY 2011 KIA SPORTAGE HOME, WHICH SHE SAID RAN FINE UP UNTIL THAT POINT. THE NEXT DAY SHE WENT OUT TO START IT AND FROM THE SOUND IT WAS MAKING THE BOTTOM HALF OF THE ENGINE WAS TURNING AND THE TOP HALF WAS NOT, WHICH WE HAVE VERIFIED THAT SLACK APPEARS TO BE PRESENT IN THE TIMING CHAIN UPON TAKING THE VALVE COVER OFF TO INSPECT. I AM SEEING HINTS OF ENGINE RECALLS ON THIS YEAR KIA ON THIS WEBSITE AND AM WORRIED THAT MY CAR MAY BE ONE OF AN UNIDENTIFIED BATCH OF CARS THAT HAVE HAD THAT PROBLEM, WHICH IF I CONTINUE TO FIX THE TIMING CHAIN ON MY CAR WOULD LIKELY REPEAT THE PROBLEM IN THE NEAR FUTURE AS IF THIS IS TRUE THE UNDERLING PROBLEM WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN FIXED. THIS CAR HAS BEEN PARKED FOR OVER TWO YEARS AS I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO GET THIS REPAIR COMPLETED YET.

I WAS DRIVING EAST ON A CITY STREET AT PROBABLY LESS THAN SPEED LIMIT. STREET BECOMES A DOWNWARD HILL WHEN DRIVING EAST , AT THE FIRST INTERSECTION THERE IS A STOPLIGHT. I KNOW THIS INTERSECTION WELL AS I DROVE THAT WAY TO WORK FOR 9 YEARS. I SAW LIGHT AT INTERSECTION WAS RED AND SAW VEHICLES STOPPED FOR RED LIGHT. I STARTED BRAKING IN PREPARATION TO STOP AT APPROPRIATE DISTANCE FROM VEHICLES STOPPED FOR RED LIGHT. MY BRAKES DID NOT ENGAGE. IT SEEMED AS THOUGH BRAKES FROZE OR WERE STUCK AND WOULD NOT GO DOWN REGARDLESS OF THE AMOUNT OF PRESSURE I APPLIED. I SCREAMED ?WHY AREN?T THESE STOPPING?? REPEATEDLY AS I SAW AND FELT MY RIGHT FOOT ATTEMPTING TO APPLY THE BRAKES. I HIT A RED PICK UP IN FRONT OF ME. MY AIR BAG DEPLOYED AND SEAT BELT FUNCTIONED APPROPRIATELY BUT I FELT I WAS INJURED. I IMMEDIATELY REACHED FOR MY PHONE AND CALLED 911. FIRE DEPT PERSONNEL ARRIVED QUICKLY AS THEY ARE CLOSE BY. HE TOLD ME VEHICLE WAS NOT DRIVABLE AND WOULD BE TAKEN TO POLICE IMPOUND LOT. HE SAID HE HAD TO GIVE ME A TRAFFIC TICKET FOR CARELESS DRIVING BECAUSE I HIT VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. HE SAID IT WAS THE LEAST VIOLATION HE COULD CITE ME FOR.VEHICLE TOWED TO COLLISION CENTER WHERE IT REMAINS STORED. I ONLY HAD LIABILITY INSURANCE. I FILED COMPLAINT WITH KIA ABOUT BRAKE FAILURE, PROVIDED PICTURES, COPY OF TRAFFIC TICKET AS REQUESTED, AND PICTURES OF MY SEVERELY BRUISED FOOT. I WAS INFORMED BY KIA REP TODAY THAT THEIR ENGINEERS FOUND NO EVIDENCE OF BRAKE FAILURE IN PICTURES AND I WAS TICKETED FOR CARELESS DRIVING. THEY FOUND NO REASON TO EXAMINE BRAKES. BRAKE LIGHTS INOPERABLE, ESC INOPERABLE, CRUISE CONTROL INOPERABLE, TRANSMISSION STUCK IN PARK. UPON STARTING THE VEHICLE I NOTICED 2 WARNING LIGHTS REMAIN LIGHTED. I LOOKED IN THE MANUAL OF THE VEHICLE AND LEARNED THE WARNING LIGHTS FOR THE ESC. I CONTINUED TO ATTEMPT TO OPERATE THE VEHICLE BY SHIFTING THE TRANSMISSION INTERLOCKL LEVER INTO THE "REVERSE" POSITION. HOWEVER, I WAS UNABLE TO MOVE THE TRANSMISSION INTERLOCK LEVER. UPON RESEARCHING THAT ISSUE I LEARNED I COULD UTILIZE A MANUAL OVERRIDE TO SWITCH INTO GEAR. I DID THIS AND UPON DRIVING THE CAR HOME I REALIZED THE CRUISE CONTROL NO LONGER WORKED AND THAT THE BRAKE LIGHTS WERE NOT WORKING VIA OTHER DRIVERS.

I PURCHASED A 2011 KIA SPORTAGE MAR 2011 W/ 12 MILES ON IT. THE MPG RANGE ON THE WINDOW STICKER WAS 22 CITY/27 HIGHWAY (18 MIN/32 MAX). SHORTLY AFTER THE GAS MILEAGE WAS POOR. I DROVE THE VEHICLE FOR 500 MILES FIGURING THAT SHOULD BREAK IT IN AND HOPED THE GAS MILEAGE WOULD IMPROVE. IT DIDN'T, BUT GOT WORSE. I RETURNED TO THE DEALER IN MAY, THE VEHICLE HAD 504 MILES ON IT AND WAS GETTING 12 MILES PER GALLON. DEALER RAN A FUEL CONSUMPTION TEST AND ECM UPGRADE STATING THAT SHOULD FIX THE PROBLEM. I DROVE IT ANOTHER 700 MILES BUT THE MILEAGE DIDN'T' GET BETTER. THE SERVICE MGR STATED THAT A BCM UPGRADE WAS PERFORMED AND THAT IT WAS GETTING 29.3 MPG ON THE HIGHWAY AND 24.5 MPG IN THE CITY. I HAVE NEVER MPG IN THE 20 RANGE. IT HAS BEEN IN THE TEEN RANGE ON THE COMPUTER & IN ACTUAL CALCULATIONS. THE SERVICE DEPT MGR TOLD PAY NO ATTENTION TO THE COMPUTER ON THE CAR, YET IT HAS BEEN ACCURATE W/ THE ACTUAL MILEAGE. WE DROVE THE VEHICLE OUT OF STATE, THE MPG WAS NOT CONSISTENT. UPON OUR RETURN FROM OUR HIGHWAY TRIP THE MPG DROPPED SIGNIFICANTLY TO RANGE FROM 13.3 TO 15.70 DRIVING IN CITY. WE RETURNED THE CAR A 3RD TIME IN AUG 2011, THE DEALER DID A FUEL CONSUMPTION TEST AGAIN. THEY HAD MY CAR FOR 11 DAYS. THE ONLY THING THEY DID WAS REPLACED THE COMPUTER ON THE 2ND TO THE LAST DAY NOT KNOWING WHAT ELSE TO DO. CONTINUING TO DRIVE THE CAR, THE HIGHEST MPG I GOT WAS 16.89 MPG. WHEN I FILL UP THE GAS TANK, THE COMPUTER ON THE CAR SHOWS THAT I SHOULD BE GETTING 308 OR 309 MILES ON THE TANK OF GAS, BY THE END OF THE TANK, I ONLY GET ~ 200 MPG. NO EXPLANATIONS ARE GIVEN FOR THIS. I LOSE 100 + MILES PER TANK. I FILED A LEMON LAW CASE AND LOST BECAUSE THIS WASN'T A SAFETY ISSUE. KIA USA HAS REFUSED TO DEAL WITH THE ISSUE AT HAND. ENGINE LIGHT IS ON AND NO POWER WHEN YOU APPLY GAS PEDAL. DEALER PULLED CODES FOR OB2 AND FOUND P2562 TURBO BOOT CONTROL/POSITION SENSOR. REST BOTH ADPAT VALUES. AFTER RESTING AND REBOOTING ECM DRIVERS WINDOWS WOULD NOT GO UP. ASKED DEALER IF CAR WAS SAFE TO DRIVER. DEALER STATED YES AND SAID THE ONLY PROBLEM WAS THE WINDOW. AFTER PULLING OUT ON TO A MAJOR BUSY 6 LANE HIGHWAY I DISCOVER I HAD NO TURNS SIGNALS. PULLED CAR OFF THE ROAD AND CHECKED TO IS WHAT OTHER LIGHTS WHERE NOT WORKING. I DISCOVERED I HAD NO DAY TIME RUNNING LIGHTS, HEADLIGHTS, FOG LIGHTS AND POWER DOOR LOCKS DID NOT WORK. DEALER STATES BAD BCM AND REPLACED IT.
