The car experienced sudden engine failure, flashing check engine light. The car was towed to the nearest mechanic and knock sensor code P1326, consistent with recall 20V750, was present. Kia Corporate refuses to authorize inspection and repair under the recall because the code was cleared after the event in order to get it towed to the dealer. The defect clearly matches the recall condition, but Kia is declining inspection in violation of recall obligations. Car has been maintained with regular oil changes at the scheduled intervals for the duration of it's life.

I was sold this car in April 2025. June 29 2025 my engine stopped working. Confirmed it is entirely blown. I was unaware of open unaddressed recalls when I purchased the car. Because of the recalls not being addressed by previous owners, kia and the warranty company refused to fix the engine.

there were no warning lamps/lights/messages prior to the failure. I have been begging Kia Car pros Glendale to repair my engine since May 27 2025 as it qualifies under the settlement. I have requested in writing a response but they continue to use stalling tactics only calling me to convey they need the first 13,000mile oil change now. I have pictures and video timestamped I have documents to prove no negligence on my part for repairs and oil changes. I am a disabled veteran who lives on a mountain in a fire prone area. I have a service dog. I am not trying to endange my life, my service dogs or my neighbors. Email dated 21 June 2025: , I want to reiterate the full scope of documentation and context we have already provided in support of this case. To date, we have submitted: Over a decade of detailed maintenance and service records, covering 2012 through April 2023, demonstrating consistent oil changes and routine and meticulous upkeep; Confirmation that the KSDS upgrade was installed by Kia Glendale on June 6, 2022, and was fully operational at the time of failure; Proof of an oil change on March 7, 2025, at 98,798 miles; Photographic and video documentation dated March 27, 2025, showing the vehicle at exactly 100,000 miles with no check engine lights, warning indicators, or abnormal engine noise; A clear timeline showing that, just five weeks later on May 6, 2025, the vehicle experienced a sudden catastrophic engine failure at approximately 101,000 miles—despite having had an oil change only weeks earlier. For your convenience, we have re-sent all supporting documentation in case any records were misplaced during what has now become a significantly drawn-out process. Importantly, the vehicle owner did not continue driving after any warning light appeared. They immediately pulled over and had the vehicle professionally towed, demonstrating responsible action at every turn.

While accelerating engine just shut off and seized. No warning. No check engine light before or after during the incident. Temp was normal. Next day a check engine light did come on while car was in "on" position (engine still not turning over) but no code was generating. No evidence of leaking oil. Dipstick showed normal oil level.

It's been eight months without a remedy? I live in an apartment under Section 8. I'm disabled (profound deafness in both ears). I'd like to ask for help to remedy this situation because my paranoia isn't helping. Will my Kia vehicle burst in fire? Why isn't there a replacement for the HECU? Can I get another Kia vehicle to replace the one I have without breaking the bank? I'm on disability benefits and I don't have the funds to get another vehicle right now. For reference (see below) Summary KIA AMERICA, INC. HAS DECIDED THAT A DEFECT WHICH RELATES TO MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY EXISTS IN CERTAIN 2011-2013 MY SPORTAGE VEHICLES. THE HYDRAULIC ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT (HECU) MAY EXPERIENCE AN ELECTRICAL SHORT CIRCUIT, WHICH CAN RESULT IN AN ENGINE COMPARTMENT FIRE WHILE DRIVING OR PARKED. Since Sep. 25, 2023 we received a recall notice advising to park our KIA vehicle outside and away from our home, other vehicles and buildings due to a serious fire hazard from the Hydraulic Electronic Control Unit short circuiting. We have ALWAYS parked our vehicle in our garage to deter theft and break-ins, stealing catalytic converters, hail damage, any other damage. This is our primary vehicle and the recall states that the fire can occur when the vehicle is in use, as well as when just parked. If it gets damaged due to continually having to park it outside who is responsible for the repairs? It has been 8 months since we received this recall and no remedy has been offered. I spoke with KIA dealership and they had no suggestions, yet the recall states that the HECU fuse needs to be replaced. How can we get a resolve to this dangerous issue?

I was not aware of the HECU problem and did not receive a letter in Nov-23 or Mar-24 about the serious hydraulic electronic control unit that is starting fires with some Kia Sportage 2012 cars and others. The problem is listed as recognized in 09/2023 and it is now 7 months after this point. I called Kia Quirk in Braintree, MA and they were unable to provide me with the HECU fuse replacement unit for the ABS system. The NHTSA.gov website recommends that owners of vehicles included within the recall to not drive their vehicles and do not park near structures and/or other cars. But Kia Dealerships do not have the product to fix the problem that is cited as urgent. Please notify me as to what is the best remedy and more so, the dealership since you are unable to find 'the perfect solution,' is there a safe and tested solution that may be used instead to protect owners of vehicles. My 2012 Kia Sportage 2.0 gdi $70k miles seized & began smoking as if it was going to catch fire while driving down the interstate on 11/24/2022 and 132 miles away from home. After finally getting towed back home and $400 later, I contacted Kia Corporate who then advised I have it towed to Kia dealership. Moving on, the dealership advised my turbo blew up I contacted Kia Corporate who put in a claim under manufacturer defect…ughh to find out they denied the claim. When Coughlin Kia should have 1st informed me of why my turbo blew up and didn’t. The dealership was very adamant on insisting I pay over $5k to have turbo fixed. My car had seemed to be using/burning oil which then was causing a misfire on cylinder 1 and oil blowing all throughout the engine. Which results from …. Worn or damaged main bearings throw off an excessive amount of oil which flows along the crankshaft and is thrown up into the cylinders. My car does have the lifetime engine replacement warranty and I feel Kia is doing everything possible to avoid replacing the engine. I had picked my vehicle up from Kia Couglin had it towed to a local garage (another tow bill $150) who advised of above issues after replacing turbo another $2k I’ve put into the car and still don’t have a vehicle. I strongly feel this all falls under that lifetime warranty & I’m getting no where with Kia Corporate

The contact owns a 2012 Kia Sportage. The contact stated while driving 45 MPH, the check engine warning light and several unknown warning lights illuminated, and the vehicle started to stall. The contact depressed the brake pedal, stopped, and parked the vehicle. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to restart. The contact shifted into neutral and pushed the vehicle to the side of the road. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to restart upon attempting to jumpstart vehicle with the assistance of a friend. The vehicle was towed to the Mazda dealer where it was purchased. The dealer diagnosed that the engine, the starter, the battery, and unknown parts needed to be replaced. The Kia dealer and manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 127,000.

The contact owns a 2012 Kia Sportage. The contact stated while driving 60 MPH, the engine seized. The check engine warning light illuminated. The contact veered to the side of the road. The contact was unable to restart the vehicle after several attempts. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the engine had seized and the starter was damaged. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was then towed to the local dealer where it was diagnosed that the engine had seized and needed to be replaced. The dealer sent a diagnostic report to the manufacturer; however, the manufacturer declined to cover the repair of the vehicle. The contact became aware of NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V224000 (Engine and Engine Cooling) which he associated with the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 150,000.

TURNED MY CAR ON AND HEARD A WEIRD TICKING SOUND WHILE IT WAS IDOL. I DECIDED TO TAKE IT IN TO MY MECHANIC. ON THE WAY TO THE MECHANIC, THE SOUND STARTED HAPPENING WHILE ACCELERATING. ONCE I REACHED 40 MPH, THE CAR STOPPED ACCELERATING AND STALLED. I HAD TO USE THE MOMENTUM AND TURN LEFT INTO DIRT PARKING LOT TO PULL OVER SINCE THERE WAS NO PULL OVER LANE ON THE RIGHT SIDE. MY PASSENGER AND BACK WINDOWS DO NOT WORK UNLESS DRIVER PUSHES BUTTONS NEXT TO THEM TO ROLL WINDOWS DOWN.

MY 20 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING HER 2012 KIA SPORTAGE ON THE 30 BYPASS GOING 55 MILES AN HOUR WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN SHE HAD ENGINE LOSS. THANK GOODNESS SHE WAS ABLE TO SAFELY GET TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WITHOUT GETTING HIT OR EVEN KILLED. SHE WAS VERY SCARED. WE HAD THE CAR TOWED TO A INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. HE SAID THE HAD CATASTROPHIC ENGINE. THE MECHANIC ADVISED US TO HAVE IT TOWED TO THE KIA DEALERSHIP WHERE WE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE A YEAR AND A HALF AGO. KIA SAID THAT IT WOULD NEED A NEW ENGINE COSTING $5000-$8000 TO REPAIR. HOW IS IT THAT OUR SAME YEAR MAKE AND MODEL HAVE 3 RECALLS BUT OUR VIN NUMBER IS NOT. WHEN THEY SOLD US THE CAR THEY KNEW IT WAS A TICKING TIME BOMB AND DIDN'T CARE. JUST WANTED TO MAKE THE SALE. AS THE 2ND OWNER OF THE CAR THEY SAID THEY WON'T HONOR THE FACTORY WARRANTY EVEN IF THE SALESMAN MARKED IT ON OUR PAPERWORK THAT WE DO HAVE IT. STILL GETTING THE RUN AROUND FROM THEM. THE CONTACT HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT A NEW ENGINE WAS NEEDED. THE CONTACT DISCOVERED NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 19V101000 (ENGINE); HOWEVER, THE CONTACT'S VIN WAS EXCLUDED. THE CONTACT CALLED KIA OF IRVINE (45 OLDFIELD, IRVINE, CA 92618, 833-290-7156) FOR A SECOND OPINION AND WAS INFORMED THAT HE WOULD HAVE TO COVER THE COSTS FOR A TOW. THE DEALER ALSO INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS ON THE VEHICLE. NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 85,000.

WHEN I PUT THE GEAR IN DRIVE, IT JERKS.THE CAR IS STATIONARY, I PUT IN REVERSE, BACK OUT, PUT ON THE BRAKE THEN DRIVE AND THIS IS WHEN IT JERKS. ALSO IT GOING IN TO DRIVE IS DIFFICULT. AS IF IT'S HARD TO GO IN TO GEAR.. THIS OCCURS EVERY TIME I DRIVE IT. IT ALSO OCCURS WHEN I'M PUTTING INTO DRIVE, GOING FORWARD, NOT JUST BACKING UP FIRST.I HAVE NO DOCUMENTATION. I am writing about a recall notice that was issued last fall (2023) and has not yet been repaired by KIA, this vehicle's manufacturer. The HECU unit has a bad fuse that can cause a fire while driving or when parked. The relevant data is: Manufacturer Recall NumberSC284SL NHTSA Recall Number23V652 Recall StatusRecall Incomplete, remedy not yet available This waiting period has been excessive. KIA needs to get this done!

My vehicle ran out of fuel, before the fuel gauge came close to "empty". The light had just come on in the past five miles, which usually indicated I had about ~30+ miles before the gauge hit "empty". It is not an electronic speedometer. I have never had that issue before. Surprisingly, I had never had this issue before. I refueled it, and it was seemingly okay. That was Sunday. Friday of the following week, I had my vehicle state inspected (PA), where it did not pass. They had to fix several issues with the rear rotor (reoccurring issue). Once it was fixed, they passed the vehicle. I had asked them to investigate the fuel issue I had. Two days later, my vehicle was less than half on the fuel gauge. I was on the highway, and suddenly I couldn't accelerate anymore. The fuel, battery, and engine lights all appeared on my dashboard. I smelled burning briefly. I went to the side of the highway and waited hours for AAA to jump my car and fuel it back. None of the options worked. I towed the car from AAA to Kia Wexford, at AAA's recommendation to get the car inspected to see if this issue was related to the recall. When the dealership finally looked into the issue, they said they wouldn't even investigate the engine issue, because I had not had the software update for the engine "downloaded" in time. The car was transferred to my name after this time period. They did state the engine would need to be replaced, paid for by me, for a total of $8k. I feel taken advantage of.

AUTO WINDOW SWITCHES HAVE HAD TO BE REPLACED.STARTING WITH ORIGINAL OEM SWITCH AS #! ,PASSENGER SIDE FRONT IS ON THIRD REPLACEMENT, PASSENGER SIDE REAR HAS BEEN REPLACED ONCE AND IS STARTING TO GO OUT AGAIN, SWITCH WILL ONLY OPERATE FROM THE DRIVERS MASTER CONTROL PANEL AND DRIVERS SIDE REAR HAS BEEN REPLACED ONCE. I BELIEVE IT IS A POORLY MANUFACTURED PART. TWO WERE REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY, THE OTHER TWO WILL BE OUT OF MY POCKET. WHEN THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONT WENT OUT FOR THE SECOND TIME, WARRANTY WAS EXPIRED BY ONE MONTH WITH A HISTORY OF PROBLEM AUTO WINDOW SWITCHES. I CALLED KIA MOTORS CORPORATE OFFICE AND EXPLAINED THAT THESE PARTS ARE JUNK AND I WOULD LIKE ANOTHER REPLACEMENT. PERSON IN CHARGE OF SERVICE FOR KIA MOTORS BASICALLY SAID TOUGH YOUR WARRANTY IS OVER. VEHICLE AUTO WINDOW SWITCHES START OUT WORKING INTERMITTENTLY WHEN PASSENGER TRIES TO HAVE WINDOW GO UP OR DOWN, THEN PASSENGER HAS NO WAY OF PUTTING WINDOW UP OR DOWN THEN DRIVER HAS TO CONTROL WINDOW MOVEMENT UNTIL SWITCH FINALLY GOES OUT. DRIVING DOWN FREEWAY AT 70 MILES AN HOUR WHEN ENGINE STARTED KNOCKING AND CAR STOPPED, TOOK TO SHOP THEY SAID THAT TWO RODS BLEW THROUGH THE BLOCK AND CAN'T FIGURE OUT WHY SINCE THERE'S STILL ALL THE OIL IN CAR. EXTREMELY SCARY TO HAPPEN ON FREEWAY!! THEY ARE SAYING AT 83,000 MILES IT'S NOT COVERED SINCE I'M THE SECOND OWNER- STILL OWE MONEY ON CAR. GONNA COST 6,000 TO FIX SINCE USED ENGINE IS 4,000 AND THEN U HAVE LABOR. CAN'T BELIEVE KIA IS ALLOWING SO MANY TO HAVE THIS PROBLEM AND THEY REFUSE TO HELP.

THE HYUNDAI 2.4L ENGINE (G4KC, G4KE, G4KG, G4KJ) BELONGS TO THE THETA/THETA II ENGINE FAMILY. IT IS A 2.4-LITER FOUR-CYLINDER GASOLINE ENGINE WITH MULTI-POINT OR DIRECT INJECTION DEPENDS ON THE GENERATION AND IN WHICH VEHICLE IT IS USED. LIKE OTHER ENGINES, HYUNDAI SHARES THIS POWER UNIT WITH KIA BRAND. THE 2.4L IS VERY SIMILAR TO THE 2.0L VERSION OF THE SAME THETA SERIES, WITH SLIGHT DIFFERENCES DUE TO THE INCREASED ENGINE DISPLACEMENT AND INTERNAL LOADS. THE ENGINE HAS ALUMINUM OPEN-DECK CYLINDER BLOCK AND ALUMINUM CYLINDER HEAD. THE INCREASED DISPLACEMENT WAS ACHIEVED BY INSTALLING A NEW CRANKSHAFT WITH 97 MM STROKE (TWO-LITER ENGINE HAS 86 MM STROKE). THE CYLINDER BORE IS ALSO LARGER. IN THIS CASE, THE ENGINE GOT NEW PISTONS WITH A DIAMETER OF 88 MM (INSTEAD OF 86 MM PISTONS). THE CYLINDER HEAD HAS 4 VALVES PER CYLINDER (16 VALVES TOTAL) AND DOUBLE OVERHEAD CAMSHAFTS (DOHC). THE CRANKSHAFT DRIVES THE INTAKE AND EXHAUST CAMSHAFTS BY USING A TIMING CHAIN. THE FIRST THETA ENGINES USE THE CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE VALVE TIMING (CVVT) FOR INTAKE TIMING ONLY. I HAD BEEN HEARING A STRANGE NOISE WHEN PUSHING THE BRAKES SINCE AUGUST 2018, I HAD A LAY PERSON LOOK AT IT WHO STATED IT WAS THE WHEEL BEARINGS AND SHOULD BE REPLACED. I TOOK IT TO KIA AS I WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY FOR 20 MORE MILES AND THEY SAID IT WASN'T THE BEARINGS AND THEY COULD FIND NO PROBLEMS AT ALL WITH THE CAR. ON FEB. 20, 2019, 6 MONTHS LATER, I WAS DRIVING WITH MY SON ON THE HIGHWAY AND STARTED TO HEAR A LOUD KNOCKING NOISE AT THE BASE OF THE WINDSHIELD UNDER THE HOOD AND THE SPEEDOMETER STARTED TO FALTER. I TRIED ACCELERATING AND THE KNOCKING INCREASED AND ALL THE LIGHTS ON THE DASH WENT ON AND THE SPEEDOMETER BEGAN FALLING. I HURRIED TO GET OVER AND OFF THE HIGHWAY AS THE SMOKE AND BURNING SMELL WAS ENGULFING THE FRONT OF THE CAR. IT COMPLETELY DIED AS I ROLLED TO A STOP WITH SMOKE POURING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. It died when we turned it on but we didn’t think it started so we started it again and it was fine. Then 1 hour later we were driving and check engine light came on and it turned off then the car was dying. When I pulled over to let it cool down the car wouldn’t turn back on and when I checked under the hood there was oil all over the engine and the cap was there, it was smoking.

THE BEST WAY TO DESCRIBE THIS IS TO DRIVE A CAR THAT WOULD OTHERWISE TRACK DOWN THE ROAD CORRECTLY, NOW THROW CONTROL ARMS WITH WORN OUT BUSHINGS AND BALL JOINTS. The day I drove the car off the lot after purchasing (roughly 4 years ago) the low tire pressure sensor came on and I was unable to get it to go off. Mentioned it to the dealership whenever I went back for my first oil change and they told me they were able to “wake it up” whenever they checked the tire pressure. It continues to not accurately read if the tire pressure is low or not. A couple of months ago (summertime) my sunroof would not close. I finally got it to close completely after having to turn the car on and off multiple times and I have not risked trying it again since. The biggest issue I’m having now is about a month ago (November) I went to start my car and not only would the engine not turn over, but all the lights kept flickering as if the alternator was going out. I not only replaced the alternator, but also have to get a brand new battery because it was completely drained and would not jump within a day. Now, a couple days ago, I went to start it again and it did something similar - though after doing some troubleshooting I think it might be a bad starter this time that has now killed my battery. Both of these times my car did not show any type of warning lights. My concern comes from the fact that several recalls for the exact same make/model/year of the vehicle I’m driving have been coming out and one of them includes the engine just “freezing up” or “dies for no reason” including while people are driving at highway speeds. No recall has been posted for my specific VIN number yet, but I’m concerned it’s just a matter of time based on these continued issues I’ve been having.

My vehicle had just recently been parked and turned off after only having driven 10 miles. Upon returning to my car less than 5 minutes later, a plume of white smoke and a small flame could be seen below the hood of the car. Within minutes the entire engine was engulfed in flames. By the time the Fire Department arrived, the blaze had already reached the rear of the vehicle. Everything was completely lost.

Vehicle was purchased and driven less than 1 yr and less than 10,000 miles before engine failure. Both repair facilities and salvage yards claim there is a recall on the engine of this car. Both dealership and KIA are unwilling to rectify this problem.

Was driving suv when sudden loss of power to engine, pulled off of highway and loss all power to electrical and to engine, I could smell something burning, upon further inspection after having suv towed to repair shop, I was informed that starter had melted and engine had seized up, I have contacted Kia dealership 3 times with no response from them, I also contacted Kia corp and no response, I also notified the BBB, I know there was a lifetime engine repair of this vehicle and some recall on bearings, I did have knock sensor done as required, I am looking for help in filing a complaint and copies of any recalls that were ever issued to this vehicle, I do not get recall notices sent to me, I own 4 cars, all Kia, other 3 not having issues yet, any help would be appreciated. Consumer stated the warranty has expired, but never received any notices of recalls.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 KIA SPORTAGE. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 20V750000 (ENGINE). THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO KIA TASCA (1660 HARTFORD AVE, JOHNSTON, RI 02919) AND THE KNOCK SENSOR DETECTION SYSTEM SOFTWARE WAS UPDATED AS PART OF THE REPAIR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER THE RECALL REPAIR, THE RADIO AMPLIFIER WAS DAMAGED AND THERE WAS AN ELECTRICAL SHORT, WHICH CAUSED THE PASSENGER'S SIDE FRONT AND REAR EXTERIOR LIGHTING TO REMAIN ILLUMINATED. THE DEALER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND DIAGNOSED THAT THE TWO INPUT CONTROL PINS ON THE SWITCHES WERE BROKEN AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND OPENED A CASE. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE REGIONAL PARTS MANAGER WOULD BE CONTACTED HOWEVER, THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT YET NOTIFIED THE CONTACT OF ANY ACTION BEING TAKEN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 93,000.

SO SINCE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE AROUND THIS TIME LAST YEAR THE FEELING WHILE DRIVING MY KIA WAS SMOOTH NO VIBRATION OR NOTICE COMING FROM THE CAR, I HAVENT HAD ANY KIND OF ACCIDENTS OR HIT ANY POT HOLES, SO NOW A YEAR INTO HAVING THE KIA AND KEEPING ALL THE FLUIDS, BRAKES, AND TIRES CHANGED I NOTICED BEFORE GETTING IT SERVICES AND HAVING THOSE LISTED CHANGED THERE IS A FEELING IN THE STEERING FRONT END OF WHAT I SAY FEELS LIKE THE TIRES ARE GOING TO FOLD UP UNDER THE CAR. WHEN TURNING THE STEERING SEEMS TO FEEL REALLY LOOSE AND I HAVE TO CORRECT IT OUT OF THE DIRECTION I JUST TURN TO MAKE THE VEHICLE TO CORRECTLY DRIVE FORWARD. I WAS DRIVING ON A CITY STREET WHEN MY VEHICLE BEGIN TO LOOSE POWER. I WAS STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT AND COULD NOT GET UP TO SPEED TO CONTINUE THRU THE INTERSECTION. I PULLED OVER THEN HAD SOMEONE DIRECT TRAFFIC AS I CAUTIOUSLY PULLED INTO THE PARKING LOT OF A LOCAL BUSINESS. AFTER WORK I GOT AAA TO TOW VEHICLE TO MY HOME. THE NEXT DAY I HAD AAA TOW VEHICLE TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP. I CONTACTED KIA AT THAT TIME AND WAS TOLD MY VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL .I HAD SEVERAL MECHANICS DIAGNOSE PROBLEM INCLUDING MY LOCAL KIA DEALERSHIP FOR A FEE. AS I TRAILED BEHIND MY FRIEND AS HE SLOWLY DROVE VEHICLE FROM 1 SHOP TO KIA, I NOTICED FIRE UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE SO WE STOPPED AND TOWED VEHICLE THE REST OF THE WAY. KIA SHOP VERIFIED IT TO BE ENGINE FAILURE AND QUOTED ME A REPAIR FEE OF $7500 TO $9000 TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM. 2 MONTHS AGO MY DAUGHTERS KIA DIED AT A STOP SIGN, IT WOULD START BUT NOT IDLE OR DRIVE. HAD IT TOWED TO MIDTOWN KIA HERE IN TULSA WHERE ALL, AND LOTS OF PROBLEMS, HAVE BEEN REPAIRED. GAVE THEM THE ISSUES AND PAID THEM TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. WE BOUGHT THE CAR NEW FROM A DEALER IN COLORADO BUT ALL REPAIRS WERE DONE AT LOCAL DEALER. TOOK A WEEK AND MY CALLING THEM TO BE TOLD THE STARTER WAS BAD AND IT WOULD TAKE $424 TO REPLACE IT TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM THE STARTER WORKED FINE WHEN WE BROUGHT IT IN AND THE STARTER DOESN`T NEED TO BE WORKING TO PLUG IN THE OBD READER TO CHECK FOR FAULT CODES! HAD THE CAR TOWED BACK HOME, I AM MECHANICALLY INCLINED AND HAVE PROPER TOOLS. I BORROWED AN OBD READER AND IT RETURNED FAULT CODE FOR CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSORS, I REPLACED THOSE AND STILL WOULDN`T RUN. CLEARED THE CODES AND GOT FAULTY CRANKSHAFT SENSOR CODE, REPLACED THAT AND STILL NO SUCCESS. CLEARED CODES AND GOT FAULTY VALVE TIMING SOLENOID CODE, REPLACED THOSE, CAR STARTED AND RAN 2 DAYS BEFORE ENGINE LOCKED UP. REPLACE OIL AND FILTER REGULARLY WITH MOBIL 1 SYNTHETIC, TOOK PROPER CARE OF VEHICLE AS REQUIRED. VEHICLE HAS 180,000 MILES.

MY 17YR OLD SON WAS DRIVING THE CAR WHEN IT STARTED MAKING A NOISE AND WOULDN'T ACCELERATE.HE SLOWED DOWN TO PULL OVER AND THE STEERING WHEEL DIDN'T WANT TO TURN. HE SAID IT WAS HEAVY. WE HAD THE CAR TOWED HOME AND CHECKED OUT BY A MECHANIC WHO STATED IT WAS ROD BEARINGS. I REMEMBERED A COUPLE YEARS AGO GETTING A LETTER FROM NHTSA AND KIA MENTIONING THEY WERE INVESTIGATING A PROBLEM WITH THE ENGINE. I LOOKED UP AND IT SAID NO RECALLS ON MY CAR. THE CAR HAS THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM AS THE RECALL SAME YEAR AND EVERYTHING. THE CAR ONLY HAS 106 THOUSAND ON IT AND HAS ALWAYS RECEIVED ALL SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE. THE MECHANIC SAID HAD MY SON KEPT DRIVING THE CAR THE ENGINE WOULD HAVE SEIZED WHICH COULD HAVE CAUSED A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. MY SON WAS DRIVING ON A BUSY RURAL ROAD WITH A LOT OF CURVES. WE HAVE A LOT OF OILFIELD TRUCKS AND TRAFFIC WITH VEHICLES THAT CAN'T STOP FAST AND HAD MY SON BROKE DOWN ON A CURVE OR BOTTOM OF A HILL HE COULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY INJURED OR WORSE. I THINK THE RECALL NEEDS TO BE INVESTIGATED MORE. KIA SAID MY VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL BECAUSE MY ENGINE WAS MANUFACTURED IN A DIFFERENT FACILITY. I WAS ORIGINALLY TOLD IT WAS THE VISCOUS COUPLING, THEN I WAS TOLD IT MAY BE THE ENTIRE STEERING COLUMN. WHY DOES A 5 YEAR OLD VEHICLE NEED A NEW STEERING COLUMN. I OWN A 2012 KIA SPORTAGE THAT I PURCHASED FROM RIVERHEAD AUTO MALL, THAT EXPERIENCE WAS WONDERFUL. I ORIGINALLY PURCHASED A KIA FOR A FEW REASONS, THE AFFORDABILITY BUT MAINLY THE 5 YEAR/10 YEAR WARRANTY. SINCE I HAVE PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE, I HAVE HAD A FEW ISSUES THAT I HAVE VISITED VARIOUS SERVICE DEPARTMENTS TO RECTIFY WHICH HAVE STILL NOT BEEN RESOLVED. THESE ARE SAFETY RELATED ISSUES, WHICH I SPOKE TO CUSTOMER SERVICE DEPARTMENT REGARDING AND CANNOT BELIEVE THAT KIA WOULD NOT STAND BEHIND THEIR VEHICLES. I CAN GUARANTEE YOU ONE THING, AFTER MY RECENT EXPERIENCES WITH KIA I WILL NEVER PURCHASE ANOTHER KIA OR RELATED VEHICLE AGAIN. FOR YEARS, I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO HAVE TWO ISSUES RESOLVED, AGAIN BOTH SAFETY ISSUES. FIRST, THE SEATBELTS ON THE DRIVER SIDE AND PASSENGER SIDE DO NOT FULLY RETRACT. THEY END UP GETTING STUCK IN THE DOOR, ALSO MORE RECENTLY THERE ARE TIMES WHEN WEARING A SEATBELT AND STEPPING ON THE BRAKES, THE SEATBELT IS NOT RESTRAINING THE PERSON. SECOND, THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR LOCK WILL NOT OPEN WITH EITHER KEY' YOU NEED TO MANUALLY OPEN THE DOOR. WHEN THE CAR IS PUT INTO DRIVE, THE DOOR WILL NOT LOCK. ALL OTHER DOORS WILL LOCK, NOT THE DRIVERS DOOR. I HAVE BROUGHT THE CAR TO MULTIPLE SERVICE LOCATIONS OVER THE PAST FEW YEARS TRYING TO GET THESE ISSUES RESOLVED. ALL WHILE UNDER WARRANTY, AND WAS TOLD TIME AFTER TIME THIS WAS AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM AND MY COMPLAINTS WERE NOT SHOWING AT THAT TIME. IN MAY I BROUGHT THE CAR IN AGAIN FOR SERVICE AND WAS TOLD THAT THERE WOULD BE A DIAGNOSTIC FEE FOR BOTH ISSUES OF APPROXIMATELY $200 EACH TO SIMPLY LOOK AT THE ISSUES. THERE IS A GREAT DEAL OF DETAILS AND PAPERWORK THAT I HAVE SUPPLIED TO KIA TO SUPPORT THIS. I WENT BACK AND FORTH WITH MULTIPLE DEALERSHIPS IN BETWEEN MULTIPLE SURGERIES SINCE LAST SUMMER.

AT APPROXIMATELY 5:30AM, I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE FREEWAY. MY KIA SPORTAGE SUDDENLY MADE A LOUD BANG, AND THE ENGINE STALLED. DRIVING AT APPROX. 35 MPH, EXITING THE 405 S FREEWAY IN SOCAL ON THE BROOKHURST N EXIT RAMP, HEARD A LOUD POP. CHECKING THE FRONT WINDSHIELD, I SEE A LONG 13 INCH CRACK IN THE GLASS AT THE TOP RIGHT HAND CORNER, BEGINNING AT THE EDGE OF THE WINDSHIELD WHERE IT'S CONNECTED TO THE CAR BODY FRAME AND EXTENDING LEFT TOWARD THE CENTER OF THE WINDSHIELD.
