I was driving my car and the inside started to smell like gasoline, and after that I noticed it was leaking from outside, and when I started to investigate, it started to come from it looked like my fuel pump on the drivers side, fuel started to leak out the fuel pump or fuel tank and leaking to the outside to the rear left side of the car

PZEV fuel tank leaks at top but is not repairable. Replacement requires complete tank replacment which is not economically feasilble. This forces owners to continue to operate vehicle with fuel leakage since repair of the tank is not possible. In older models a simple gasket change would resolve such leaks, in the PZEV tank leaks can not be repaired and thus are left uncorrected. Many of these vehicles are now owned by minority owners who are unable to pay $5000 to repair a defective design. MB refuses to support owners.

I recently started smelling gas in my car after refueling. I was told by my mechanic that Mercedes was replacing fuel pumps and fuel tanks free of charge . Mercedes Benz customer care has advised this isn't so. This is an expensive repair and I am hoping Mercedes Benz can cover the cost of this repair and if not, offer substantial assistance.

In June 2017, I received a letter from Mercedes-Benz of America informing me that the warranty of the fuel system in my vehicle is extended to 15 years. In that same year, I had my whole fuel tank replaced by an authorized Mercedes Benz dealer in San Jose, California due to strong smell of fuel by the rear wheel well on the driver side of the car. The repair was fully cover by MB-America under this extended warranty. On November 3, 2022, I experienced the same fuel smell from the same place of the car (i.e., driver side rear wheel well) and was told that the repair will not be cover at all, even though the fuel system in my car is only 5 years old. I am writing to suggest that you impose a 15 years warranty on the fuel leak replacement parts. MB needs to stand behind their product if it was their OEM parts and done by their authorized dealer. In my case the new fuel smell was due to a cracked Fuel Pump Assembly (Part # 211 470 60 94) which was found in the brand new fuel tank installed in my car in 2017. My car is now repaired at a local shop at a fraction of the cost that MB-San Jose would have charged me. My hope is for you to help future similar customers who will experience similar issue avoiding this unjust expense. THE CAR WOULD NOT START AS THE FUEL PUMP WAS FAULTY AND IS PART OF THE TANK DESIGN. MBZ KNEW OF THE PROBLEM BECAUSE THEY REPAIRED OR REPLACED SOME OF THE CARS BUT I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED TILL THE PROBLEM. IT COST ME UNDER $3,800 TO REPAIR AND REPLACE THE GAS TANK EVEN THOUGH THEY REPAIRED A LOT OF CARS. MY REPAIR WAS FINISHED ON 05/14/18. I PAID $3,409.33 FOR THE REPAIR AND I WANT TO BE REIMBURSED FOR IT. I FILED A COMPLAINT BACK IN 05/31/2018 UNDER THE COMPLAINT NUMBER [XXX]. I NEED HELP TO GET MY MONEY BACK. The contact owns a 2006 Mercedes-Benz E350. The contact stated while the vehicle was stationary, she started to smell an abnormal fuel odor from the rear driver’s side seat. The contact stated there was no warning light illuminated. The contact took the vehicle to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed with needing the fuel level sending unit and the seals and gaskets to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired however, the failure recurred. The contact stated that she was unable to continue driving the vehicle due to odor. The contact towed the vehicle to another local dealer, Mercedes-Benz of Myrtle Beach (936 Jason Blvd, Myrtle Beach, SC 29577, (843) 848-6800) where it was diagnosed with needing the fuel tank, fuel pump, fuel line and all the seals and gaskets needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 104,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO WALTER'S MERCEDES-BENZ OF RIVERSIDE (951-441-6182, LOCATED AT 3213 ADAMS ST, RIVERSIDE, CA 92504) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL PUMP LEAKED FUEL. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND SUPPORTED THE DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 151,877.

The contact owns a 2006 Mercedes-Benz E350. The contact stated while driving at 35 MPH, the vehicle would not stop when depressing the brake pedal. No warning lights were illuminated, however, the contact stated the entire instrument panel was illuminated in red. The vehicle was taken to a local independent mechanic where the vehicle's brake line, brakes, and rotors were replaced. The contact stated the failure recurred. The vehicle was driven to the contact's residence and was not repaired. The contact referenced the manufacturer recall 2005110001 Sensotronic Brake Control as a possible solution however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 149,000.

February 22, 2022 I was driving from Memphis, TN to Flower Mound,TX. It was raining really bad and once I got to Texas on University Ave. My brakes went completely out. I had to shut the car off to stop. Shortly after I heard about a recall involving this same matter but it was for 2006 Mercedes SUV. However after reading the recall the same thing happened to me E350. I had to pay over $2000 on this repair. I feel I am entitled to be refunded. I also had to get the car towed home. Vehicle had a blow out on highway. Pull onto right shoulder doing about 60mph. Pressed the brakes and would not stop. Kept pressing brake and pumping the brakes and would not stop. was going around 50mph on the shoulder. After 15 seconds of pressing the brakes, car decided to brake. Checked brake lines, brake fluid and everything was correct and not leaking and drove the car back home slowly with spare on. ESP and ABS error came on. No other warning came on.

Certain Mercedes-Benz models 2005- 2007 M272 V6 and M273 V8’s have faced or are facing issues regarding the balance sprocket in which drives the camshaft and crankshaft of the vehicle. Mercedes-Benz had made a decision to make certain engine components out of soft metals, when such metals are not adequate in handling the stress of the engine. In particular, in many cases, the balance sprocket was made with inadequate materials and gradually deteriorated to the point in which it could not engage the timing chain and cause camshaft-crankshaft misalignment. I personally did not experience such failure yet but it is more of a concern as this is a common issue , the repair is quite substantial and the failure can damage the engine even more

Engine codes P0016 and P0017 reads cam shaft and crank shaft correlation it is everywhere on the internet and on the Mercedes Benz Forum.This is a know problem that Mercedes has ignored. its on all 2004 thru 2008 vehicles with the 3.5 engine. Calls for a balancer shaft replacement. This should definitely be a recall issue.The industry knows that is was poorly manufactured part. Your help with rectifying this issue would greatly help the and restore the reputation of Mercedes and restore faith in Mercedes Benz owners. My vehicle is a 2006 E350 4 Matic with only 113,634 miles

Driving the vehicle on several occasions on Interstate 66 and the vehicle spontaneously went into limp mode. Now we find out it's a balance shaft issue and is a known problem from Mercedes in the M272 engines for our 2006 E350 4-matic. They evidently used balance shafts with materials that were too soft, resulting in premature wearing of the balance shafts with all of the M272 engines produced during this time having the problem. There was a previous class action lawsuit, which Mercedes settled, however, the consumers were not adequately notified and no recall was ever issued for the cars. Now we have 2nd or 3rd owners having these problems that didn't get a notice and have no idea there is a huge expensive and dangerous problem with their vehicle. On I-66 traffic moves at 70 mph (regular lanes) or 75 mph (express lanes). Having the vehicle spontaneously go into limp mode because of this engine issue is dangerous and could have caused a fatal accident on multiple occasions for us. Mercedes should be recalling all of these engines and fixing them properly before someone gets injured or killed. When I spoke with Mercedes, they said because I was not involved in the class action suit at that time, they were not willing to fix the car or pay for any portion of the repair, which they quoted me as costing $16,228.96. The problem is the Mercedes went into limp mode on multiple occasions and there was no check engine light to indicate what the problem was for several months. We had no warning that this was going to happen which created a dangerous situation while driving. There were several incidents on different dates spanning months before a check engine light came on with codes and Mercedes could identify the problem specifically was the balance shaft failure.

We just purchased a 2006 Mercedes for our teenage sons and had a dealer look at it before we purchased it. They told us there were a couple of codes that were worth watching but that it wasn’t anything significant right now. After the car started jerking and shaking while driving it, we brought it in to dealership where they told us it had a common code for Mercedes in this timeframe P0016. Repair estimate is nearly $5000 to replace timing chain and balance shaft, or a new engine which would be roughly the same. After researching on my own upon being told this code, I found all of the information about the class action lawsuit and settlement, which of course we are too late to be a part of. The dealer said there is a potential that the car could just seize up at some point, so I don’t want my young sons to be out on the road when that happens. I am very frustrated and upset that this wasn’t a recall since it apparently affected a huge amount of vehicles manufactured within this time frame. There is a specific list of engines with known issues and ours is among them. Mercedes Benz should be held responsible for making this right because it was definitely a quality issue. Now we are stuck with an unsafe vehicle, or a massive expense due to defect.

THIS HAS ACTUALLY HAPPENED 2X ALREADY-I WAS STATIONARY AT A LIGHT AND WHEN I WENT TO ACCELERATE THE CAR STALLED AND WOULD NOT START BACK UP. THERE WHERE MANY CARS BEHIND ME AND MY CAR WOULD NOT MOVE. I TURNED CAR OFF AND THEN IT FINALLY RESTARTED AND I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD . I WAS TERRIFIED. THE SECOND TIME THE CAR WAS ACTUALLY MOVING AND THEN JUST DIED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSECTION. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER BOTH TIMES AND SINCE NOTHING CAME UP ON MY DASH THEY COULD NOT FIND OUT WHAT WAS WRONG. I AM TERRIFIED THIS WILL HAPPEN AGAIN WITHOUT A GOOD OUTCOME NEXT TIME. I FEEL MY CAR IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. I HAVE TRIED TALKING TO MBUSA AND TOLD THEM WHAT HAPPENED THEY DID NOTHING. I WROTE A LETTER THEY DID NOTHING. THE TRANSMISSION CONDUCTOR PLATE SENSOR IS DEFECTIVE. I WAS STUCK IN EITHER FIRST OR SECOND GEAR. I LEARN THAT IT WAS IN LIMP MODE. THE 722.9 TRANSMISSION CONDUCTOR PLATE SENSOR IS KNOWN TO HAVE THESE ISSUE AS I LEARNED FROM MANY MERCEDES OWNER THAT HAVE THE 7SPEED TRANNY. PLEASE ADVISE ON THIS SUBJECT TO TAKE ACTION ON RECALLING THE SERVICE FOR MY CAR. I HAVE 2006 E350,2014ML550,2007 S550. THESE CARS ALL HAVE THE CODE FOR THE SAME ISSUE. THE CODE IS P0717 AND P0718. AT 73,480 MILES THIS 2006 MERCEDES HAS A FAULTY CONDUCTOR PLATE VALVE THAT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THIS FAULTY CONDUCTOR PLATE/SPEED SENSOR CAUSES THE CAR NOT TO SHIFT FROM 1ST TO 2ND GEAR AND INSTEAD SPINS WITHOUT GOING INTO GEAR. THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN MOTION WHILE THIS OCCURS. AT STOP LIGHT, TRIED TO ACCELERATE FORWARD AND COULD NOT. SHUT CAR OFF AND RESTARTED. CARS IN BACK OF ME PROCEEDING = DANGEROUS SITUATION TO BE TURNING OFF IGNITION AND RESTARTING CAR ONLY TO MOVE FORWARD! THERE WERE ALSO PREVIOUS OCCURRENCES OF THE SAME INCIDENT.

SRS LIGHT STAYS ON. SCANNED SYSTEM AND GOT A CODE 9103. FOUND THERE WAS A TSB ISSUED BY MERCEDES FOR A WIRING PROBLEM AND HARNESS REPAIR FOR THIS MODEL. I DON'T THINK I SHOULD HAVE TO PAY THE 6 HRS LABOR FOR THIS REPAIR. IT WAS THEIR FAULT IN MAKING THE WIRING HARNESS TOO SHORT FOR A STEERING COLUM THAT MOVES IN AND OUT.

NOW, IT IS ON NEARLY EVERY TIME I DRIVE THE CAR. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM TO BE THAT OF A WEIGHT SENSOR, AND SAID WHENEVER THE LIGHT IS ON, ALL AIRBAGS ARE TURNED OFF AND WILL NOT DEPLOY. NOW IT IS NEARING 10 YEARS OLD AND AM STILL TRYING TO GET THE DEALERSHIP TO REPAIR IT UNDER THE 10 YEAR WARRANTY ($850 TO $1000) AS YOUR AGENCY HAS DEFINED, "'MANUFACTURERS ARE NOT REQUIRED TO REMEDY VEHICLES FOR FREE THAT ARE MORE THAN 10 YEARS OLD ON THE DATE THE DEFECT OR NONCOMPLIANCE IS DETERMINED. I WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT SAT. APRIL 9, 2016. I STRUCK ANOTHER VEHICLE THAT WAS STOPPED DEAD STILL IN THE ROAD. MY AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY . THE "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL CAME ON. WE TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR MAINTENANCE AND ASKED THEM TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. WE WERE TOLD THAT IT WAS ASSOCIATED WITH A FAULTY BALANCE SHAFT AND THAT IT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED SOONER THAN LATER OR ELSE IT COULD CAUSE ENTIRE ENGINE TO STOP WORKING WHEN IT FAILED. THE QUOTED PRICE FOR REPAIRS WAS AROUND $5500 WITH A $1000 DISCOUNT. ONCE HOME, WE RESEARCHED "FAULTY BALANCE SHAFT ON 2006 MERCEDES BENZ E350" AND FOUND THE FIRST WEBSITE TO HAVE INFORMATION OF A CLASS ACTION LEGAL SUIT IN PROGRESS AGAINST MERCEDEZ BENZ OVER DEFECTIVE BALANCE SHAFT GEARS IN MERCEDES BENZ M272 ENGINES & IDLE GEARS IN MERCEDES BENZ M273 ENGINES. IT WAS DISCONCERTING TO REALIZE THAT A VAST NUMBER OF PEOPLE HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEMS WITHOUT GETTING RELIEF FROM MBUSA. IT IS UNACCEPTABLE TO SEE THAT SO MANY PEOPLE ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME ISSUE OF DEFECTIVE ENGINES FROM A MANUFACTURER WHO COMMANDS A PRICE PREMIUM FOR ITS "SUPERIOR ENGINEERING" AND YET DOES NOTHING TO CORRECT A SERIOUS AND WIDESPREAD FAULT. FROM THE VARIOUS REPORTS, INCLUDING THOSE IN THE LAWSUIT WEBSITE AND ONLINE FORUMS, MBUSA HAS FAILED TO ASSIST CUSTOMERS WITH THESE ISSUES, IN MOST CASES CITING THAT VEHICLES ARE PAST WARRANTY COVERAGE AND THEREFORE THE OWNERS MUST COVER THE COST OF REPAIR. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE SINCE IT APPEARS TO BE A FACTORY DEFECT, RATHER THAN "WEAR AND TEAR" THAT THE CUSTOMER IS RESPONSIBLE FOR. MERCEDES BENZ MUST PAY FOR THIS PROBLEM, NOT THE CUSTOMER.

BASED ON NEWS ITEMS REGARDING MERCEDES-BENZ W211 (U.S.A. MODEL YEAR 2003-2008 E CLASS) VEHICLES EXPERIENCING FUEL LEAKS, AN INSPECTION OF THE FUEL SYSTEM WAS PERFORMED ON THE ABOVE LISTED VEHICLE. GROSS EXAM REVEALED NO FUEL PUDDLING ON THE GROUND BENEATH THE VEHICLE AND A LACK OF FUEL ODOR WITHIN THE INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR ENVIRONMENT IMMEDIATELY ADJACENT TO THE VEHICLE. HOWEVER, REMOVAL OF THE REAR SEAT BENCH, UNDERLYING INSULATION PAD AND LEFT FUEL PUMP ACCESS PLATE REVEALED FUEL ODOR; CLOSER INSPECTION REVEALED THE SUPERIOR OUTER ASPECT OF THE FUEL PUMP ASSEMBLY TO BE WET WITH GASOLINE; FUEL-INDUCED DISCOLORATION (WHITE TO BROWN) OF THE PLASTIC COMPRISING THIS SUPERIOR ASPECT WAS CLEARLY EVIDENT. The contact called on behalf of the owner of a 2006 Mercedes-Benz E350. The contact stated that while his mother was driving at an undisclosed speed and approaching a traffic light, the brake pedal was depressed; however, the brakes failed to function as intended. The brake pedal was depressed down to the floorboard. The contact's mother used the parking brake to stop the vehicle. The ABS warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the residence and then to an independent mechanic. The vehicle was diagnosed with Sensotronic Brake Control (SBC) system failure. The contact was informed that the Sensotronic Brake Control system needed to be replaced. The vehicle remained with the mechanic unrepaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to report the failure to the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 180,000.

COMPLAINT CONCERNS THE MICHELIN TIRE NO. 2255516 MXM4 95V THAT BLEW OUT ON THE SIDEWALL WHILE TRAVELING AT A NORMAL RATE OF SPEED OF 45 TO 50 MILES PER HOUR. PREMATURE WEAR ON THE INSIDE CORNER OF MY TIRES. THIS WAS ULTIMATELY DISCOVERED ON ALL FOUR TIRES. THIS LEAD TO BELT SEPARATION ON ALL TIRES AND A LOST OF BELTING ON THE LEFT FRONT OF THE CAR THAT CAUSED DRIVER SURPRISE THAT DEMANDED A DRAMATIC EMERGENCY STOP. THIS EXPOSED ME TO HIGHWAY TRAFFIC AND ALMOST CAUSED AN ACCIDENT WHILE PULLING OVER IN A SHOCKED AND CONCERNED STATE. THESE TIRES WERE RECOMMENDED FOR MY CAR BY THE RETAILER AND MET BOTH THE SPEED RATING AND PERFORMANCE REQUIRED. HOWEVER, I DON'T FEEL THEY SHOULD BE SOLD FOR THIS CAR BASED ON MY EXPERIENCE. COSTCO PAID FOR A REPLACEMENT TIRE AND DAMAGE TO THE RIM. THEN, ON MAY 13, 2009 ANOTHER ONE OF THE ORIGINAL SET OF MICHELIN TIRES SEPARATED IN A SIMILAR FASHION AGAIN ON I-40, NEARLY CREATING A MAJOR TRAFFIC FATALITY. ABOUT A YEAR AGO (MAY 2013) WE NOTICED GAS SMELL IN THE COMPARTMENT OF THE CAR. INITIALLY IT WAS SPORADIC. WE THOUGHT IT WAS FROM OUTSIDE OF THE CAR OR MAY BE UNDER THE CAR, OR GAS TANK CAP WAS NOT TIGHTENED PROPERLY. AFTER I TOOK MY CAR TO MERCEDES BENZ DEALERSHIP ON 9/6/13, I FOUND OUT THAT THE SMELL WAS NOT FROM EITHER OF THE ABOVE SCENARIOS. IT WAS INDEED FROM INSIDE THE CABIN AND THE MERCEDES BENZ TECHNICIAN TOLD ME THAT IT WAS FROM FUEL LEAKAGE UNDER THE BACK SEAT AND IT WOULD COST $1380 TO FIX IT. ADDITIONALLY HE SAID THAT HE HAD SEEN NUMEROUS CASES LIKE MINE, AND SOME WERE SO BAD THAT THEY WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO DRIVE IT IN, AND HAD TO TOW THE CAR IN. BECAUSE OF THE HIGH COST IN ADDITION TO THE OTHER REPAIRS THAT I HAD TO DO WORTH $1,200, I DECIDED TO DELAY THIS REPAIR. I ARRIVED AT 9:30AM AND CHECKED MY VEHICLE IN. I SAT IN THE DEALERSHIP FOR 3 HOURS UNTIL I FINALLY GOT TIRED OF WAITING FOR INFORMATION. I THEN FOUND THE SERVICE ADVISOR WHO WAS REPRESENTING THE WORK ON MY VEHICLE. I ASKED HIM WHAT WAS GOING ON WITH MY CAR. HE SAID HE'D FIND OUT. THE INSULATION COVERING THE ELECTRICAL WIRING THAT POWERS THE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS ON BOTH PASSENGER AND DRIVER SIDES HAS FAILED AND CRUMBLED AWAY EXPOSING THE BARE COPPER WIRE. THIS CIRCUIT POWERS TWO HALOGEN 55 WATT BULBS (110 WATTS TOTAL OR ~10 AMPS) AT 12 VOLTS. THE INSULATION FAILURE WILL PRESENT AN IMMEDIATE VEHICLE FIRE HAZARD IF THE ELECTRICAL PROTECTION FUSE FAILS TO ACTUATE AS A RESULT OF THE SHORT CIRCUIT CREATED BY POTENTIAL BARE WIRE CONTACT. IF THE ELECTRICAL PROTECTION FUSE DOES ACTUATE PROPERLY THE CAR WILL LOSE FORWARD ILLUMINATION WHICH IS ESSENTIAL FOR SAFE VEHICLE OPERATION AT NIGHT. IN EITHER INSTANCE A PROPERTY AND PERSONAL HAZARD CAN RESULT FROM THIS DEFECT. THIS DEFECT CAN BE TRACED DIRECTLY TO THE WIRE MERCEDES BENZ SELECTED FOR THE MANUFACTURE OF THIS CIRCUITRY. EITHER THE GAUGE OF THE WIRE SELECTED IS INSUFFICIENT TO DISSIPATE THE HEAT GENERATED BY THE CURRENT FLOW THE CIRCUIT DEMANDS OR THE INSULATION OF THE WIRE SELECTED IS INHERENTLY DEFECTIVE AS EVIDENCED BY ITS CRUMBLING DETERIORATION FOR A COMPONENT THAT SHOULD BE EXPECTED TO LAST THE LIFE OF THE VEHICLE. IN EITHER CASE THIS WIRING FAILURE CONSTITUTES A MANUFACTURING DEFECT WHICH SHOULD BE SUBJECT TO RECALL AND CORRECTION BY THE MANUFACTURER AT HIS EXPENSE. THE DEFECT WAS DISCOVERED WHILE ATTEMPTING TO REPLACE A FAILED LOW BEAM HEADLIGHT BULB, A MAINTENANCE ACTIVITY THAT CAN REASONABLY BE EXPECTED TO BE PERFORMED A NUMBER OF TIMES DURING THE VEHICLE'S LIFESPAN. THE DEFECTIVE INSULATION WAS IMMEDIATELY EVIDENT BY VISUAL AND TACTILE OBSERVATION. IT WAS IMMEDIATELY CLEAR AN IMMEDIATE HAZARD WAS PRESENT AND THAT THE LIGHTING COULD NOT BE USED RENDERING THE VEHICLE UNSAFE TO OPERATE UNDER CONDITION WHEN THE LIGHTING CIRCUIT MIGHT BE OPERATED.

I CHANGED THE LOW BEAM HALOGEN BULBS IN MY HEADLIGHTS WHEN I DISCOVERED THAT THE WIRE LEADS TO THE BULB HAD LOST NEARLY ALL OF THEIR INSULATION, EXPOSING BARE WIRE. THE INSULATION FLAKES WERE SITTING IN THE BOTTOM OF THE CAPSULE THAT CONTAINS THE LIGHT ASSEMBLY, WHICH IS NORMALLY CLOSED, ACCESSED BY A REMOVABLE "DOOR". BOTH HEADLIGHTS HAD THIS SAME ISSUE. THIS IS AN OBVIOUS SPARKING/FIRE DANGER, SO I APPLIED ELECTRICAL TAPE OVER THE WIRES. HAD I NOT CHANGED THE BULBS [THEY LOSE BRIGHTNESS OVER THE YEARS], I WOULD HAVE BEEN UNAWARE OF THIS DANGER. My father and mother were driving back home on the evening of 1/29/25 when all of a sudden they heard a loud pop/explosion and their seat belts tightened. They were traveling at a speed of approximately 35 mph on local roads. There was no accident, collision, or warning signs, but the driver's side airbags, left side of the car, deployed. The message on the odometer said SRS Restraint system malfunction. The car is a 2006 Mercedes E500 with 58,900 miles having one owner and all maintenance performed on time. This is a high safety concern as it could have caused a severe accident and if the front airbags had deployed erroneously, this could have injured my elderly parents. I put a call into Mercedes corporate on 1/31/25 at 9:30 am but so far they do not appear to be taking this issue seriously. When my father contacted his local Mercedes dealer, they too do not want too deal with the issue.

MY AIRBAGS SELF DEPLOYED WHILE I WAS DRIVING. I HAD JUST LEFT WORK AND DRIVING NORTHBOUND ON THE WEST SAM HOUSTON TOLLWAY APPROACHING THE TOLL STATION AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. THERE WAS AN INCREDIBLY LOUD EXPLOSION AND AND HARD PERCUSSION AS THE AIRBAGS SELF DEPLOYED WHILE I WAS DRIVING. I THOUGHT I HAD BEEN PUNCHED OR SHOT IN THE GUT. THE PASSENGER SIDE CURTAIN DROPPED DOWN AND THE RIGHT REAR PASSENGER SIDE DOOR BAG DEPLOYED. THE SEATBELT AROUND MY WAIST AND SHOULDER TIGHTENED. FORTUNATELY, I KEPT IT TOGETHER AND DROVE DIRECTLY TO THE DEALERSHIP. I HAD NOT HIT ANYTHING, RUN OVER A POTHOLE, SWERVED OR OTHERWISE MAKE ANY SUDDEN DIRECTION CHANGE. I WAS IMMEDIATELY CALLED BY AN OPERATOR ON THE MERCEDES EMERGENCY SYSTEM WITHIN THE CAR. SO MERCEDES IS AWARE OF THE INCIDENT AT THE TIME IT HAPPENED. SHE ASKED IF I NEEDED AN AMBULANCE OR POLICE. I TOLD HER THAT THE AIRBAGS HAD DEPLOYED ON THEIR OWN AND THAT I WAS PHYSICALLY OK. ADDITIONALLY, I DROVE IMMEDIATELY TO STAR MOTOR DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY LOOKED AT MY VEHICLE LESS THAN 20 MINUTES AFTER IT OCCURRED. THE SERVICE ADVISER AND SOME OF THE TECHNICIANS QUICKLY LOOKED AT THE VEHICLE (IT WAS NEAR CLOSING TIME). THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT READ THE CODES OTHER THAN THE SRS FAULT. I WAS ADVISED THAT IT WOULD LIKELY BE CHEAPER TO FIX AT A BODY SHOP THAN AT THE DEALER. I LATER FOUND THAT THE DRIVER SIDE REAR SEATBELT HAD ALSO DEPLOYED AND WAS TIGHTENED.

AFTER REFUELING, I NOTICED A STRONG ODOR OF GASOLINE IN THE GARAGE WHERE I PARK MY CAR. AFTER DRIVING THE VEHICLE A FEW MILES AND PARKING IN THE GARAGE, THE ODOR WAS NO LONGER THERE. DURING RENEWAL OF HEADLAMP BULBS I FOUND THAT INSULATION HAD BROKEN OFF LEAVING SUBSTANTIAL PORTION OF BARE CONDUCTORS. I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND COULD HEAR THAT THE ENGINE DIDN'T SOUND RIGHT, IT WAS REVVING AT A HIGHER RPM THAN NORMAL. I PULLED OVER TO SEE WHAT WAS WRONG AND IT CONTINUED TO DO THIS EVERY TIME I TRIED TO ACCELERATE. I TURNED THE CAR OFF, TURNED IT BACK ON AND THEN ONLY HAD 3RD. GEAR AVAILABLE. NOTHING ELSE. I LATER FOUND OUT THAT IT'S CALLED "LIMP MODE" IT WOULDN'T GO FASTER THAN 40MPH AND NOTHING ELSE WORKED, JUST 3RD. GEAR AND REVERSE. AFTER DOING EXTENSIVE RESEARCH I LEARNED THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH MOST 7-SPEEDS AND THE AMOUNT OF PEOPLE HAVING OR HAD THIS ISSUE IS APPALLING. I FILLED THE TANK OF OUR E320 CDI WITH DIESEL FUEL AT A LOCAL STATION AND DROVE THE SHORT DISTANCE HOME AND PARKED IN MY GARAGE. NEXT MORNING I NOTICED A PUDDLE OF DIESEL FUEL NEAR RIGHT-REAR TIRE. I DRIVE THE CAR NORMALLY TO WORK (~5 MILES) THE NEXT FEW DAYS AND NOTICED A PUDDLE OF DIESEL NEAR RIGHT REAR TIRE EACH TIME. DID A LITTLE ON-LINE RESEARCH AND LEARNED THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH THE FUEL SENDER SEAL ON W211 MB'S, LIKE MINE. SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT WITH MB OF GRAND BLANC AND THEY CONFRMED THE DIAGNOSIS AND REPLACED THE SEAL UNDER MY EXTENDED WARRANTY. I NOTICED FUEL STAINS ON BOTTOM OF FUEL TANK AND SMELL OF DIESEL IN MY GARAGE ESPECIALLY AFTER FILL UP. I TOLD THE DEALER WHEN I HAD THE CAR IN FOR SERVICE. THEY SAID I HAD A FUEL LEAK AND THE FUEL TANK WOULD HAVE TO BE REMOVED TO FIND THE SOURCE. THEY SAID THE PROBLEM COULD BE THE TANK, SENDING UNIT, OR SEALS....ALL VERY EXPENSIVE TO DIAGNOSE/ REPAIR. I MET WITH THE SERVICE MGR TO SEEK AN OUT OF WARRANTY COVERAGE AND GOT NOTHING. I CALLED MERCEDES CORPORATE CUSTOMER SERVICE. THEY DECLINED TO COVER ANY OUT OF WARRANTY REPAIR COSTS. I REMOVED THE REAR SEAT AND FOUND FUEL PUDDLING AROUND THE SENDING UNIT (IN THE TANK) ON THE DRIVER?S SIDE. IT IS UNCONSCIONABLE THAT THERE ARE FUEL LEAKS IN A HIGH LINE EXPENSIVE CAR LIKE THIS. SRS SYSTEM SHUT DOWN ON 2006 MERCEDES BENZ 350E 4-MATIC. LIGHT CAME ON DASH NOTIFYING ME OF THE FAILURE OF THE SYSTEM. TOOK TO DEALER WHO INFORMED ME OF CODE 9103 "RESISTANCE IN DRIVERS AIRBAG" INFORMED THAT HARNESS IN STEERING COLUMN WAS DESIGNED TOO SHORT AND WHEN STEERING WHEEL IS TELESCOPED OUT THE WIRE WILL EVENTUALLY BREAK SHUTTING DOWN THE SRS SYSTEM. REPLACEMENT PART # 211-440-4509 IS A LONGER HARNESS DEMONSTRATING THAT MERCEDES IS AWARE OF THE DEFECT. R&R REQUIRES REMOVAL OF STEERING COLUMN COVER, 3 HOURS OF LABOR, COSTING OVER $600 INCLUDING DIAGNOSIS. Mercedes Benz issued a recall and extended a warranty on its 2003-2005 E Class SBC braking systems (recall # 2005110001) and extended the warranty to 25 years; the 2006 E Class models have the exact same SBC braking system but is not included in the recall. Mercedes needs to add the 2006 E Class models to recall # 2005110001. My 2006 is experiencing the same SBC issues the 2003-2005 models are known to have but because my vehicle is 2006 it is not covered by the extended warranty.

The engine in these cars are defective and can cause serious harm due to a part that was put inside the motor made of plastic. There was a lawsuit but if you didn’t get in on it you losses out for not knowing. I was recently at Mercedes dealership to fix recalls and they brushed me off. The car can catch fire and I’m already experiencing engine failure after only owning the car for a year. They don’t care because it’s an old car but it’s still being sold to unsuspecting buyers. I’m not the only one there are thousands of us who are at risk driving these cars because Mercedes won’t admit their off the showroom floor mistake.

STATE ROAD 7, COCONUT CREEK, FL 33073) WHERE THE CONTACT WAS PROVIDED WITH THE MANUFACTURER'S NUMBER AND WAS ADVISED TO CALL THE MANUFACTURER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO THE SAME DEALER WHERE A DIAGNOSTIC TEST WAS PERFORMED. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THE VEHICLE AND INFORMED THE MANUFACTURER THAT THE VEHICLE STRUCK AN OBJECT, WHICH CAUSED THE AIR BAGS TO DEPLOY. I THEN REACHED OUT TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC WHO AGREED TO REPLACE THE UNIT FOR $865 (PLEASE SEE THE ATTACHED RECEIPT). I WAS ABLE TO PURCHASE THE SBC UNIT FROM MB OF CLEAR LAKE FOR $1,045.70 . THUS, I WAS ABLE TO GET THE CAR REPAIR AND SAVE MY SELF ABOUT $1,000 AS MB WAS NOT COVERING ITS REPAIR. ON SEPTEMBER 2018 I RECEIVED A LETTER FROM MB USA, INDICATING THAT THE COST OF THE REPAIR IS REIMBURSABLE. I REACHED OUT TO THE DEALER AND PROVIDED ALL THE DOCUMENTS THAT THEY REQUESTED. HOWEVER, I WAS TOLD THE REPAIR CAN BE REIMBURSED ONLY IF IT WAS DONE BY AN AUTHORIZED DEALER. I BELIEVE THIS IS NOT A FAIRWAY TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE WHEN ALL THE RELEVANT DOCUMENTS ARE AVAILABLE FOR A LEGITIMATE REIMBURSABLE. THIS VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH SENSOTRONIC BRAKE CONTROL THAT HAS A SERVICE THRESHOLD. WHEN THIS THRESHOLD IS REACHED THE BRAKE SYSTEM DEFAULTS TO NON POWER ASSISTED HYDRAULIC MODE TO THE FRONT WHEELS ONLY. THIS OCCURS WITHOUT ANY PRIOR WARNING AND RESULTS IN INCREASED STOPPING DISTANCE. I HAVE SENT A COPY OF THE MERCEDES SERVICE BULLETIN S142.46-P-0012A WHICH ADDRESSES THIS ISSUE. MERCEDES STOPPED INSTALLING THIS SYSTEM IN 2006. AT THE VERY LEAST, MERCEDES SHOULD ISSUE A MANDATORY RECALL TO INTERROGATE THESE VEHICLES WITH STAR DAS TO DETERMINE HOW CLOSE TO THE SERVICE THRESHOLD THE SBC UNIT IS AND REPLACE THEM AT THE DEALER'S EXPENSE. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED.

THE ONLY WAY TO FIX IS TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE MANIFOLD ($2100) AND MERCEDES BENZ DOES NOT OFFER AN EXTENDED WARRANTY ON THIS COMPONENT. I WAS SURPRISED WITH THE QUALITY OF MB ESPECIALLY WHEN I CHECKED THE INTERNET TO FIND OUT HUNDREDS WITH THE SAME INCIDENT AND WITH MANY UNPLEASANT CUSTOMERS. THE BROKEN INTAKE MANIFOLD LINKAGE IS 100% DESIGN ISSUE. MY CAR HAS 107K MILES, I HAD MY EXTENDED WARRANTY UP UNTIL 100K, SO I CAN'T BELIEVE THESE 7K MILES CAUSED THIS LINKAGE TO BE BROKEN. IT IS A DESIGN ISSUE (PROBABLY CHEAP PLASTIC PART THAT AGED OVER TIME). MB HAD SEVERAL EXTENDED WARRANTY ON OTHER MAJOR COMPONENTS SUCH AS: GAS TANK ($2,400) AND SBC PUMP ($2,000) DUE TO FATAL INCIDENTS, SO I AM NOT SURE HOW MANY PEOPLE HAVE TO DIE IN CAR CRASHES BEFORE MB OFFERS THIS EXTENDED WARRANTY. I CAN'T BELIEVE I AM SAYING THIS ABOUT MB QUALITY, BUT JUST GO ONLINE AND YOU WILL FIND OUT MORE AND MORE ABOUT THESE ISSUES. THE PROBLEM WITH THIS COMPONENT IS THE FACT THAT IT IS UNPREDICTABLE BECAUSE IT DEPENDS ON THE POSITION OF THESE FLABS (CLOSED, SEMI OPENED, OPENED POSITION). WHICH MAKES IT SCARY TO DRIVE THE CAR WHEN YOU KNOW THAT THIS MAY HAPPEN AT ANY TIME AND IT COULD IMPACT YOUR LIFE AND THE LIVES OF YOUR BELOVED ONES AND PROBABLY OTHERS WHO WOULD BE DRIVING AROUND YOU.

I AM A DISABLED VETERAN AND ON APRIL 30, 2015 MY CAR SMELLED LIKE GAS. MERCEDES BENZ USA SAID TO TAKE IT TO NEAREST DEALER ATLANTA CLASSIC CARS IN GWINNETT COUNTY, GA. THE PROBLEM: LEAKING FUEL TANK, IT TOOK 120 DAYS TO REPLACE THE TANK. THE CAR STILL SMELLS LIKE GAS, THE DEALERSHIP RECOMMENDED REPLACE THE SEAT CUSHIONS, AND THE FELT. BOTH ARE WET FROM GAS, AND HAS GAS VAPORS ON IT. THE TECHNICIAN SHOWED ME HOW TO LIFT UP THE SEATS, AND I TOOK PICTURES OF THE WET SEAT CUSHIONS, AND THE WET FELT. THE DEALERSHIP WANTS TO CHARGE ME $565.00. MY COMPLAINT IS THAT I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR A PROBLEM THAT I DID NOT CAUSE; THIS WAS CAUSED BY A LEAKING FUEL TANK. MY THROAT BURNS FROM THE GAS SMELLS, MY EYES WATER, AND I'M GETTING HEADACHES. PART OF MY DISABILITY IS ASTHMA AND THE FUMES IN THIS CAR EXACERBATES THE ASTHMA. THERE IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE WITH 2006 MERCEDES-BENZ E CLASS (MBEC) BECAUSE OF A MANUFACTURER'S AND/OR DESIGN DEFECT WHICH CAUSES THIS VEHICLE TO NOT GO INTO PROPER GEAR AND/OR STALL SUDDENLY PUTTING THE PUBLIC AT RISK. I BARELY ESCAPED BEING SMASHED INTO BY ONCOMING TRAFFIC WHILE MAKING A ROUTINE LEFT HAND TURN INTO A GAS STATION BECAUSE MY MBEC WAS STUCK IN GEAR AND DID NOT ACCELERATE AS IT WAS MANUFACTURED AND DESIGNED TO DO BUT RATHER SPUTTERED AT LESS THAN 5 MILES PER HOUR (MPH). THE ONLY REASON I WAS NOT T-BONED AND LIKELY SERIOUSLY INJURED ALONG WITH OTHER PEOPLE WAS BECAUSE THE OTHER DRIVERS SWERVED INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC CAUSING THOSE DRIVERS TO ALSO SWERVE. MIRACULOUSLY NO ONE WAS INJURED, THIS TIME. ALSO, THE REASON WHY I WAS TURNING INTO THE GAS STATION WAS BECAUSE I WAS FORCED TO GET OFF THE HIGHWAY BECAUSE MY MBEC WOULD NOT CHANGE GEAR AFTER I GOT ON THE HIGHWAY AND WAS APPROACHING RED-LINING AT AND IT SEEMED LIKE THE ENGINE MIGHT BLOW. THE TIPTRONIC ALSO FAILED DURING THIS MALFUNCTION. I HAD THE AUTHORIZED MB DEALER THAT I HAVE USED SINCE I PURCHASED MY MBEC PICKUP MY VEHICLE TO LOOK INTO THIS ISSUE AND MY ADVISOR TOLD ME I NEEDED A NEW BALANCE SHAFT BECAUSE THE ONE IN MY VEHICLE HAD PREMATURELY WORN (EVEN THOUGH I HAVE ALWAYS STRINGENTLY FOLLOWED MY MB ADVISOR'S SUGGESTIONS) AND IT WOULD COST ROUGHLY $6,500. S/HE ALSO SAID THIS OCCURS IN ROUGHLY 15-20% OF '06 MBEC. BUT MB WOULD NOT FIX THIS SAFETY DEFECT UNLESS I PAID. 2006 MERCEDES BENZ MODEL E350. STRONG FUEL ODOR EMANATING FROM REAR AREA (TRUNK) OF VEHICLE ON THE OUTSIDE. CAR WOULD NOT START AND TOWED BY AAA TO MERCEDES BENZ DEALERSHIP/CAR REPAIR. AAA TOW DRIVER STATED THAT THE ODOR OF GASOLINE WAS SO STRONG HE WAS TEMPTED IN CALLING THE FIRE DEPARTMENT. MERCEDES BENZ SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE INFORMED US AT FIRST THAT CAR WAS FULL OF WATER. ORIGINALLY THE MECHANIC CLAIMED HE FOUND A POOL OF WATER INSIDE THE CAR'S TRUNK. THE SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE INFORMED THE TECHNICIAN OF OUR COMPLAINT OF A STRONG ODOR OF FUEL COMING FROM BOTH INSIDE AND OUTSIDE THE VEHICLE. IT WAS AT THIS TIME THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT HE FOUND A HEAVY POOL OF FUEL IN THE TRUNK AREA OF THE VEHICLE. THEY WERE UNABLE TO IDENTIFY THE SOURCE OF THE FUEL LEAK. THEY CHANGED THE GASOLINE TANK AND FUEL PUMP BUT WERE UNCERTAIN OF THE ACTUAL CAUSE OF THE LEAK. THE VEHICLE REMAINED AT THE DEALERSHIP FOR ONE WEEK. MERCEDES BENZ SERVICE MANAGER REFUSED TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE FUEL LEAK WAS CAUSED BY A FACTORY DEFECT AND NOT BY WEAR AND TEAR OF THE PARTS AND WE WERE CHARGED FOR ALL THE REPAIRS. THE MECHANIC ADVISES REPAIR COST IS $6200. HE HAS THE BULLETIN AND HAS SEEN THIS ISSUE IN MULTIPLE CARS. CAR'S (MERCEDES BENZ E350 SDN 2006) FUEL GAUGE SHOWED THAT THE TANK WAS HALF FULL. ABOUT TEN MINUTES INTO THE DRIVE, THE VEHICLE DECELERATED AUTOMATICALLY FROM 65 MPH TO 0 MPH. POLICE WERE CALLED TO PREVENT A PILE ON CRASH. TOWED CAR TO DEALER WHO FOUND THAT THERE WAS A GAUGE MALFUNCTION. REPLACED GAUGE. TWO MONTHS LATER, THE VERY SAME PROBLEM RECURS. LEADS ME TO BELIEVE THAT THE FUEL GAUGE IS UNRELIABLE CAN CREATE A SAFETY ISSUE ESPECIALLY IN FREEWAY DRIVING, THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP FOUR TIMES IN THE LAST THREE MONTHS TO FIX THESE ISSUES. WHILE FIXING THE SENSORS, THE CAR HAD A DISTINCT GASOLINE ODOR ESPECIALLY WHEN TANK WAS FULL. THE DEALER DID A SMOKE TEST AND CONCLUDED THAT THE TANK WAS LEAKING AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. I HAD MY CAR MAYBE 2 MONTHS BEFORE I STARTED HAVING PROBLEMS TRANSMISSION FIRST THEY SAID A TRANSMISSION MODULE WAS BURNED OUT AND IT HAD A RECALL I TOOK IT BACK SEVERAL TIMES I WASN'T NOTIFIED OF THIS ISSUE BUT KEPT HAVING IT. (PARK PLACE DALLAS) THEN I TOOK IT TO AUSTIN THEY WORKED ON IT SEVERAL TIMES SAME ISSUE NOW NOV THE ISSUE WAS SO BAD I WAS GOING DOWN THE STREET 25 MPH COULDN'T GO ANY FASTER AND WHEN THEY PICKED UP THE CAR THEY SAID THEY COULDN'T FIND IT BUT A SOLENOID SWITCH HAD BURNED OUT I THOUGHT IT WAS THE HEATER THEY SAID IT WAS A RECALL ON THIS PART ALSO 3 WEEKS LATER BURNING AGAIN DRAGGING AGAIN WHEN DRIVING THEY SAID THE SOLENOID SWITCH RECALLED AGAIN. THEY KEPT THE CAR UNTIL 2/25/2008 SINCE CHRISTMAS EVE . I CALLED CORPORATE AND THEY HAD A REP WHO CONTACTED MERCEDES OF GEORGETOWN ,TX THEIR RESOLUTION WAS FOR ME TO PAY ANOTHER 15-20 THOUSAND DOLLARS AND THEY WOULD GIVE ME A NEW VEHICLE . I CALLED AN ATTORNEY WHO SAID THEY COULD SWITCH VIN NUMBERS WITH MY LENDER AND REPLACE THIS JUNK THAT I AM DRIVING. I CAME TO MERCEDES LOOKING FOR A DEPENDABLE CAR GAVE THEM $20,000 DOWN ON A $58,000 CAR THINKING THAT FOR AT LEAST 7 TO 8 YEARS FOR THIS PRICE I WOULD HAVE A DEPENDABLE CAR THIS CAR IS JUNK WHY MUST I CONTINUE TO ADD ON TO MY PAYMENT DUE TO THEIR MESS EVERY ITEM RECALLED HAS BEEN RECALLED AT LEAST 2 TIMES IT'S ALSO NOT FAIR THEY DIDN'T NOTIFY OTHER BUYERS WHAT WILL THEY DO WHEN THEY NO LONGER HAVE WARRANTIES . *TR

NO CHILD SAFETY LOCKS FOR THE REAR SEATS. THE CHILD IS ABLE TO OPEN THE DOOR WHILE THE CAR IS AT SPEED. THE DOORS DO LOCK AUTOMATICALLY AT 9 MPH BUT YOU CAN OPEN THE DOOR BY PULLING THE LOCK UP THEN PULLING THE DOOR HANDLE OPEN. *NM

DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THERE WAS A STRANGE ODOR LIKE ROTTEN EGGS OBSERVED IN THE VEHICLE. WHILE STOPPED AND WAITING FOR A PARKING SPACE TO OPEN UP, THE ENGINE REVVED AND ACCELERATED FORWARD ALTHOUGH THE BRAKES WERE DEPRESSED. THE SPEED AT IMPACT WITH THE OTHER VEHICLE WAS 40 MPH. AFTER THE IMPACT THE IGNITION WAS TURNED OFF HOWEVER THE ENGINE WAS RACING AND THE FRONT WHEELS WERE STILL SPINNING AND SMOKING. THE SEATBELTS WERE WORN AT THE TIME OF IMPACT, BUT REMOVED TO EXIT THE VEHICLE. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED AND THE CONTACT WAS SENT TO THE HOSPITAL.
