The contact’s wife owns a 2010 Subaru Legacy. The contact stated that while driving at undisclosed speeds, the vehicle hesitated and stalled. The contact was able to restart the vehicle. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the torque converter had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacture was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that the warranty had expired but no further assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 179,000.

Torque Converter failure - car stalls/shuts off when braking hard. This is a huge safety hazard. Car has 114,852 miles on it and was just recently purchased from a private owner. There should have been a recall for these vehicles from Subaru.

When braking and coming to a stop the car shutters and stalls. In order to avoid it, you must put it into neutral or else it will stall and you will have to restart. This is dangerous and a very essential function of the car and needs to be replaced asap. It does this more frequently when coming to an abrupt stop. There can also be lights that sometimes blink - the cruise control light, brake light flashing, and stability control lights. This has been occurring for many years and i have tried to get it replaced and fixed but it was unknown what would fix this issue exactly so it was just money wasted.

I PURCHASED THIS CAR ON 12/21/2010. THE MILEAGE IS 61,259 AND I HAVE OWNED IT FOR 9 YEARS, 4 MONTHS AND 28 DAYS. THE CAR IS NOW STALLING AT TRAFFIC LIGHTS AND WHILE IDLING. THERE WAS A WARRANTY EXTENSION FOR THIS CAR IN JUNE, 2017 FOR THE CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION (CVT). I BELIEVE THIS IS THE ISSUE - AND IT IS A KNOWN ISSUE. I WEIGH 115 POUNDS. WHEN I SIT IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT OF THE 2010 SUBARU LEGACY, THE AIRBAG INDICATOR LIGHT DOES NOT COME ON. WHEN SOMEONE HEAVIER SITS IN THE SEAT, THE AIRBAG INDICATOR LIGHT COMES ON. I WORKED WITH MY SUBARU DEALER, WHO HAD NO REMEDY, SO THEY REFERRED ME TO SUBARU OF AMERICA (800-782-2783). I OPENED CASE 1-25522457944. THEY TELL ME THERE IS NO AVAILABLE REPAIR, AND THE PASSENGER MUST "SIT PROPERLY" IN THE SEAT. I AM SITTING PROPERLY. THIS WAS APPARENTLY AN ISSUE THEY KNEW ABOUT, AS THEY CORRECTED IN IN THE 2011 LEGACIES (WE OWN ONE OF THOSE, TOO). I HAVE NO PROBLEMS WHEN I SIT IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT IN THE 2011 MODEL. SUBARU OF AMERICA CONFIRMED THAT IF THE INDICATOR LIGHT IS NOT LIT, THE BAG WILL NOT DEPLOY IN AN ACCIDENT. SO A PERSON OVER 80 POUNDS SITTING IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT OF A 2010 SUBARU LEGACY IS NOT PROTECTED. IT SEEMS TO ME THAT THERE IS A REMEDY, BUT PERHAPS SUBARU DOESN'T WANT TO GO THERE. I WANT THE VEHICLE ATTRIBUTES I PURCHASED TO FUNCTION AS DESIGNED. THEY SAY IT IS, BUT IF IT DOESN'T DEPLOY FOR SOMEONE WHO IS 115, HOW DID THEY DESIGN IT? IS THIS SOMETHING YOU CAN HELP WITH? Subaru refuses to do a recall for their CVT transmission issue even though this is a know issue with the 2010-2012 Legacy. The car stalls when coming to a stop. Subaru never informed their owners of an issue and now refuse to pay for any repairs, if this was to become a recall then they would be required to pay for the repairs, and then there would be less unsafe vehicles on the road

1. When coming to a stop the vehicle will shudder and stall. Vehicle drives fine until slowing down to and then will sometimes shudder and stall. 2. The car stalling when slowing down others drivers can hit you as they do not expect you to come to a complete stop. 3. I am taking the car to the dealer tomorrow. 4. I have notified the dealer of the issue and I have found two bulletins from the manufacture regarding this issue, which I found from other people who have complained of the same exact problem with their make of vehicle 5. No warning lights came on, I would slow down for a stop sign and before even stopping the car shudders and stalls, I have to put the car in park to start the and the car so far has started.

THE TECHNICIAN ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT IT WAS THE TORQUE CONVERTOR THAT FAILED AND WAS A KNOWN ISSUE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER AND WAS NOT REPAIRED DUE TO THE DIAGNOSTIC AND REPAIR FEES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,000. The CVT Transmission has a known problem where the torque converter causes stalling. This issue is well documented on Subaru forums. I took my vehicle to Subaru about the problem and they said the fix for the stalling is to replace the Torque Converter., It is not yet covered for a recall despite being such a large issue with these vehicles.

The contact owns a 2010 Subaru Legacy. The contact stated while driving 25 MPH, the traction control, transmission overheating, service brakes, and check engine warning lights were illuminated. There was an abnormal bubbling sound coming from the engine compartment. The vehicle was taken to the dealer however, a cause for the failure was not found. The dealer informed her that the vehicle was drivable. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 170,918.

I HAVE A 2010 SUBARU LEGACY 3.6R I BOUGHT ALMOST 4 YEARS AGO. IN THE TIME THAT I HAVE OWNED IT I HAVE REPLACED 7 HEADLIGHT BULBS AND HAVE TO DO IT AGAIN BECAUSE ONE JUST BLEW OUT. IT IS NOT ONE SPECIFIC SIDE, ITS EITHER OR BOTH. WHY IS THIS HAPPENING? IS THERE A RECALL ON THE ASSEMBLY? SHE ALSO STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH SHE APPLIED PRESSURE TO THE BRAKE PEDAL AND HEARD TWO CLICKING NOISES. THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED AN INCREASED STOPPING DISTANCE AND WHEN SHE RELEASED THE PRESSURE FROM THE BRAKE PEDAL SHE AGAIN HEARD TWO CLICKING NOISES. THE VEHICLE WAS AGAIN TAKEN TO THE AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THEY WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. IT WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURES CONTINUE TO RECUR. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 824 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 1,894.

While driving heard a loud crunching noise coming from front driveside wheel area car was hard to control took it to mechanic and found out subframe is rotted and Control arm pulled right out of the subframe

I was driving home and heard loud creaking and grinding noises from the front of the car, especially when I was turning or braking. I did use it the next day and it sounded worse. I brought the car to my local repair shop and was told that the problem was a crack in the front sub frame. I did not have an accident or hit anything.

MY SISTER AND I HAVE THE SAME EXACT CAR JUST ONE YEAR APART AND THEY BOTH STALL WHEN COMING TO A STOP EVEN THOUGH THE CAR IS AN AUTOMATIC. THE BRAKE LIGHT BLINKS, THE CRUISE CONTROL LIGHT BLINKS AND IS UNABLE TO BE USED, THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT STAYS ON, AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON. IT HAS BEEN LIKE THIS FOR SEVERAL YEARS NOW AND IVE TRIED TO TROUBLESHOOT MANY THINGS TO FIX IT, BUT NOTHING HAS WORKED. THE LIGHTS STAY ON CONSTANTLY MAKING IT UNABLE FOR ME TO USE MY CRUISE CONTROL AND THE CAR TO STALL WHEN COMING TO A STOP AT ANY SPEED. I ALSO KNOW SEVERAL OTHERS WITH THE SAME MODEL THAT HAVE HAD THIS ISSUE AND ALSO SEE VIDEOS OF THIS HAPPENING TO OTHER PEOPLE ON YOUTUBE AND THEM BEING UNSURE OF THE PROBLEM TO FIX IT.

THE BRAKE PIPES HAVE BEEN RUSTED THROUGH ON MY CAR. THE LOCATIONS IS JUST FORWARD OF OF THE PASSENGER REAR TIRE. SUBARU HAD PLACED A PLASTIC COVER THERE, BUT I BELIEVE IS FAILED TO STOP THE PROBLEM WHICH HAS PLAGUED THEIR CARS SINCE THE 90'S. I AM AWARE OF OTHER RECALLS FOR THIS PROBLEM IN THE SUBARU LINE, BUT CURRENT RECALL STOPS OF 2009 ON THE LEGACY. INCIDENT HAPPENED YESTERDAY 9AM, EXTREME HOT WEATHER. I WAS PARKED ON A HILL- STEEP PARKING. LEFT MY SISTER INSIDE TO GET A PARKING TICKET TO PLACE ON MY DASH BOARD THEN I CAME BACK TO PUT IN THE DASHBOARD, IT WAS STILL ON PARKED- MY SISTER WENT AT THE BACK OF THE CAR THIS TIME AND AS SOON AS I REMOVED THE KEYS FROM IGNITION IT STARTED SLIDING BACK AND IT WOULDN'T STOP- ALMOST RUNNING OVER MY SISTER. I WAS STEPPING ON THE BREAKS BUT SINCE THE KEYS ARE NOT ON THE IGNITION IT WAS NOT WORKING ANYMORE. THEN I PLACED BACK THE KEY THAT STOPPED THE CAR THIS TIME. The subframe failed. We were told it should not be used till the part is completely replaced. This was after coming back from a trip from New York to WI. After taking it to an independent dealer we were told the part was on back order on July 5th. After being told the part was finally in on August 14th I was told that the Subaru dealership said they made a mistake and that part was not for the independent dealership I’m working threw but for one of their customers. Seems this subframe is such an issue with the Subaru legacy’s that there’s a several week to several months back order. Just wondering if it’s such an issue and possible safety risk why there’s no recall?

THE LOCAL DEALER PATRIOT SUBARU (769 PORTLAND RD, SACO, ME 04072) WAS NOTIFIED AND ADVISED THAT THE REPAIR COST WOULD BE THE VEHICLE OWNER'S RESPONSIBILITY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND OFFERED A CREDIT TOWARDS ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000.

The front subframe of my 2010 Subaru is completely rusted through and is available for inspection. My safety was put at risk because if the subframe broke in half while I was driving it would cause an accident from lack of steering control. Many people online said they had the same problem. The car was vibrating and shaking at high speed. The vehicle has not been inspected by any representatives. Subaru of America was called and they refused to do anything to help us. I am sure there are many more of these cars on the road with this problem who are unaware as I was and it is extremely unsafe. People are going to be killed!!!

I had a episode of sudden unintended acceleration while I was driving in the highway. If I would let the brake pedal go, my car would probably escalate its speed to maximum until it crashes. The RPM was almost 5 even though I was applying the brake. I could not make it stop by applying the brakes at all . I only could make it finally stop when I changed the gears to neutral and them to park and finally turn the engine off. I was lucky I was in the highway and when I got in the first light it was green, other wise an accident would've happened.

WHILE CROSSING A BUSY STREET I WAS FORCED TO BRAKE HARD AND QUICKLY BECAUSE THE CAR AHEAD OF ME SUDDENLY STOPPED. MY SUBARU'S ENGINE THEN STALLED. I WAS ALMOST HIT FROM BOTH THE REAR END AND FROM THE SIDE BECAUSE I COULDN'T START MY CAR FAST ENOUGH. THE DEALERSHIP INDICATES THAT THIS IS DUE TO A BAD TORQUE CONVERTER ON THE CVT TRANSMISSION. THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THE 2010 LEGACY, BUT THEY WILL NOT AND THE NHTSA WON'T FORCE THEM TO DO A RECALL. HOWEVER, MY CAR IS 16,000 MILES OUTSIDE THE EXTENDED WARRANTY THEY ESTABLISHED WHEN THEY FOUND OUT ABOUT THE PROBLEM. THEY INDICATED THAT I COULD HAVE RESOLVED THIS ISSUE BY JULY 2018 AT NO COST. HOWEVER, SINCE THAT DATE HAS PAST I'M OUT OF LUCK AND MUST PAY FOR IT OUT OF POCKET. I HAD A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE WITH MY 2010 SUBARU LEGACY WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY. THE CAR WAS DOING APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH AND I ACCELERATED TO CHANGE LANES AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THE CAR LOST ALL POWER AND EVENTUALLY CAME TO A COMPLETE HALT RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF FAST MOVING TRAFFIC. I TURNED ON MY HAZARD LIGHT, PUT THE CAR TO PARK AND RESTARTED. THE CAR WOULD START BUT WOULD SHUT DOWN SLOWLY IN THE NEXT 2-3 SECONDS EVEN BEFORE I COULD PUT IT TO DRIVE AND ACCELERATE. I NOTICED THAT ALL THE LIGHTS IN THE DASH LIKE TRACTION CONTROL, CHECK ENGINE, ETC ALL LIT UP AND THE CAR JUST SLOWLY DIED. AFTER TRYING IT ONE MORE TIME (WITH SAME RESULTS) I SHUT OFF THE CAR COMPLETELY AND STARTED CALLING AAA FOR TOWING. AFTER ABOUT A MINUTE WHEN I TRIED TO RE-START THE CAR, IT SPRANG UP TO LIFE NORMALLY (I.E. WITHOUT A SLOW SHUT-DOWN LIKE THE PRIOR TWO TIMES) AND ACCELERATED WHEN I PUT IT TO DRIVE LIKE NOTHING HAD HAPPENED. I WAS THEN ABLE TO GET OFF THE FREEWAY FOR SAFETY AND POPPED THE HOOD TO SEE IF THERE WAS ANYTHING ON THE SURFACE THAT I COULD FIND WRONG. EVERYTHING LOOKED FINE, I WAS EVEN ABLE TO GET BACK HOME ALL ON THE FREEWAY NORMALLY. I TRIED TO STAY ON THE RIGHT LANE AND SIMULATE THE SAME (I.E. DOING DECENT SPEED AND THEN ACCELERATING), BUT EVERYTHING WAS NORMAL. SUNDAY BEING MANDATORY DEALERSHIP CLOSURES IN NJ I WAS NOT ABLE TO BRING IT TO THE DEALERSHIP. I’m having an issue with my vehicle stalling when I brake and when I come to a stop slowly or on an incline. I haven’t had it tested at a dealership but I have read about the issue among other Subaru owners stating it is possible the torque converter in the CVT and that Subaru isn’t recalling it. I see this as a major safety concern for myself and others on the road due to its stalling out at a stop or on an incline.

Front subframe has rotted away in several spots. This makes the vehicle extremely unsafe to drive. With possible wheel loss or control of steering. Problem has been confirmed by independent repair shop during state inspection. No warning lights are on or possible for this issue. Issue was first noticed from noise coming from front of vehicle like rocks bouncing around, followed by strong pulling to the right when braking.

The contact owns a 2010 Subaru Legacy. The contact stated while driving at 50 MPH, the emergency brake warning light, traction control, oil pressure warning light, and the cruise control warning light illuminated. The contact veered to the side of the road. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. The vehicle was then towed to an unknown dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission valve body had failed. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure reoccurred a week later. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where it was diagnosed with an unknown electrical failure. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure reoccurred less than a week later. The vehicle was taken back to the same dealer who advised the contact to turn off the vehicle, disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, and to then restart the vehicle. The contact followed the instructions however, the failure persisted and the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the gas cap was replaced; however, the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but did not provide any assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 115,000.

MANY WARNING LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD COME ON SIMULTANEOUSLY FOR NO APPARENT REASON. USUALLY THE LIGHTS FLASH OFF AND ON. I HAVE CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP FROM WHICH I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE AND I WAS INFORMED THAT SUBARU IS AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND THAT THEY WOULD LIKELY TAKE CARE OF REPAIRING THE TRANSMISSION ($7,000). HOWEVER, SUBARU HAS CONTACTED ME WITH THE OFFER TO PAY ONLY $2,500 OF THE TOTAL AMOUNT OF THE REPAIR. MY WIFE AND I HAD MOVED FROM MILWAUKEE TO SEATTLE IN MARCH 2016. IN APRIL, WE DECIDED TO DRIVE UP TO THE SKAGIT VALLEY 'TULIP FESTIVAL' (NORTH OF THE CITY). WE TOOK MY WIFE'S 2010 SUBARU LEGACY IT WAS A DECENT DAY, BUT NOT WARM ENOUGH TO HAVE THE SUNROOF OPEN. WE DID HAVE THE SHADE OPEN THOUGH AND WERE ENJOYING THE SUN FILTERING IN. ON THE DRIVE UP ON I-5, WE HEARD WHAT SOUNDED LIKE AN EXPLOSION ABOVE US. MY WIFE KEPT HER COMPOSURE, BUT WE HAD TO SLOW DOWN, PULL OVER TO THE RIGHT LANE AND EXIT AS SOON AS WE COULD. ON WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 19, 2014 MY SON LEFT FOR WORK AT HIS USUAL TIME AND STARTED THE SUBARU. IMMEDIATELY, THE ENGINE ROARED AT FULL THROTTLE, AND THE VEHICLE TOOK OFF DOWN THE STREET, WHERE IT JUMPED THE CURB AND CRASHED INTO A TREE AT 45 MPH. DISTANCE TRAVELED WAS LESS THAN 400 FEET FROM WHERE IT STARTED. BASED ON AN EYEWITNESS ACCOUNT, IT IS PRESUMED THAT THE VEHICLE SUFFERED AN UNINTENDED ACCELERATION MECHANICAL ISSUE OUTSIDE OF THE DRIVER'S CONTROL. WE PURCHASED THE CAR NEW, DECEMBER, 2009. DEALER IS OVER AN HOUR DRIVE FROM HOME IN ANOTHER STATE. CAR IS PAMPERED AND KEPT IN GARAGE WHEN NOT BEING USED. JUST IN A COUPLE MONTHS DEVELOPED A PRONOUNCED THUMP IN THE REAR UNDER THE CAR. INTERMITTENT, AND THERE IS A FEEL OF THE CAR VIBRATING OR SHIMMYING, IF VERY SLIGHTLY AT THE SAME TIME. THEY HAVE HAD THE CAR 4 TIMES SINCE FOR OTHER ISSUES OF RATTLES AND NOISES, A COUPLE RECALLS FOR DEFECTIVE HOSE AND WIRING AND RECENTLY BLUE-TOOTH FAILURE WHICH WE ARE STILL GOING AROUND WITH THEM. THEY REPLACED SOUND DEADENING IN THE DOORS BECAUSE IT HARMONIOUSLY VIBRATED AT THE PITCH OF SCRAPING FINGER NAILS ON THE CHALKBOARD, AND GIVE ME THE DEER IN THE HEADLIGHT LOOK WHEN I MENTION THE FIRST SERVICE AND THE TERM, BUSHING. MY 2010 SUBARU LEGACY AUTOMATIC...WHILE ACCELERATING ON AN INCLINE LOST ALL ACCELERATION, CAR ACTED AS IF IT WAS IN NEUTRAL, NO RESPONSE FROM THE THROTTLE. LIGHTS WERE STILL ON, NO WARNING LIGHT INDICATORS. PULLED OVER, TURNED OFF THE ENGINE AND RESTARTED. PROBLEM HAS NOT OCCURRED SINCE. DEALER SAYS HE CAN'T RECREATE THE PROBLEM AND THE DIAGNOSTICS REVEAL NO ERROR CODES. AFRAID TO DRIVE MY NEW SUBARU. *TR

TPMS SYSTEM ON SUBARU 2010 LEGACY IS TRIGGERED WHEN TIRE PRESSURE FALLS JUST BELOW PLACARD COLD TIRE PRESSURE. DEALER (LITHIA SUBARU, RENO) RECOMMENDS INCREASING TIRE PRESSURE TO 125% OF PLACARD COLD TIRE PRESSURE. SUBARU ALSO RECOMMENDS INCREASING TIRE PRESSURE. THIS LEADS TO MANY DRIVERS DRIVING WITH OVERINFLATED TIRES. SUBARU NEEDS TO LOWER THE PRESSURE AT WHICH TPMS SYSTEM INDICATES LOW TIRE PRESSURE TO ACTUALLY LOW TIRE PRESSURE. 75-80% OF PLACARD COLD TIRE PRESSURE WOULD SEEM AN ADEQUATE SOLUTION. *TR

DRIVING A 2010 SUBARU LEGACY ON A NARROW STREET WITH A 90 DEGREE TURN. ENTERING THE TURN THE CLUTCH PEDAL WAS PRESSED DISENGAGING THE CLUTCH, THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED SLIGHTLY - THE CAR STALLED AS THE ENGINE DIED. SINCE IT WAS A TURN AND THE CAR HAS POWER STEERING THE NOSE WAS IN THE OPPOSITE LANE BEFORE IT STOPPED. THERE WAS NO ACCIDENT. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 SUBARU LEGACY. WHILE IN REVERSE AND ATTEMPTING TO PARK, THE VEHICLE ROLLED DOWN A HILL AND CRASHED INTO AN EMBANKMENT. THE BRAKES HAD NOT ENGAGED WHEN APPLIED. THE FAILURE WAS THE SECOND OCCURRENCE OF THE BRAKES NOT WORKING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALERSHIP BUT THE DEALER COULD NOT DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 2,000.

SUBARU 2010 LEGACY 3.6 HAS A DEALER- ACKNOWLEDGED SEVERE HESITATION IN ACCELERATION. THE CAR FAILS TO ACCELERATE WHEN THE GAS PEDAL IS INITIALLY ENGAGED, THERE IS A PROLONGED HESITATION AND THEN THE CAR LURCHES FORWARD UNPREDICTABLY. IT'S PARTICULARLY SEVERE IN A SLOW ROLLING SITUATION SUCH AS ACCELERATING UPON TURNING AT AN INTERSECTION. THE CAR SIMPLE "CAN'T GET OUT OF IT'S OWN WAY" IN A TIMELY, RELIABLE AND PREDICTABLE FASHION. DEALER WAS NOTIFIED WITHIN THE WEEK OF SALE, ACKNOWLEDGED THAT SUBARU OF AMERICA WAS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND PROMISED TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. 2010 SUBARU LEGACY DRIVER SIDE FLOOR MATS KEEPS MOVING AND COULD MAKE IT DIFFICULT TO BRAKE/ACCELERATE. THERE ARE 2 "PEGS" STICKING UP TO HOLD THE FLOOR MAT IN PLACE BUT AS YOU DRIVE, THE FLOOR MAT SHIFTS AND COMES OFF THE RIGHT PEG PUSHING THE MAT UP AND TURNING IT. THIS HAPPENS ROUTINELY EVERY DAY AS THE CAR IS DRIVEN. THE FLOOR MAT DOES NOT STAY SAFELY IN PLACE. PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED SINCE THE FIRST DAY OF OWNERSHIP AND AT ALL SPEEDS. *TR
