I am writing to raise a serious and ongoing issue regarding the infotainment system in my 2018 Subaru Legacy. The problem centers on the widespread and well-documented screen delamination defect, which has caused persistent and unsafe behavior in the vehicle’s head unit — a critical system affecting both usability and driver safety. In my case, the screen began delaminating around the 100,000-mile mark, just outside the warranty. Since then, the problem has progressively worsened and now renders the infotainment system unusable. The screen ghost-touches and rapidly changes menus, inputs, and radio stations, often without any driver interaction. This is not merely an aesthetic defect — it poses a substantial safety hazard and functional impairment. Most alarmingly: The radio will change frequencies automatically, sometimes switching away from AM emergency broadcast channels without warning or input. This poses a clear safety concern in weather-related or disaster scenarios when access to emergency broadcasts is essential. The screen unpredictably shifts menus and settings while driving, creating a visual distraction that competes with the driver’s focus on the road. This is an unacceptable risk in a vehicle designed with safety as a brand hallmark. Hands-free and navigation functionality are affected, which may compel drivers to interact with the system in motion — violating hands-free laws in many states and contradicting Subaru’s commitment to safe vehicle design. The issue is widely reported across Subaru owner forums, independent shops, and social media. It is linked directly to a known defect in the Harman-made infotainment units used in 2018 models and related vehicles. This is not an isolated or unique case. Despite this known problem, Subaru of America continues to decline support for owners affected outside the extended warranty period. Even though the issue eventually effects every single model. The contact owns a 2018 Subaru Legacy. The contact stated that the display touch screen laminated cover had developed bubbles, causing the touch screen to malfunction. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle, the display erroneously turned on or erroneously turned off. During the failure, the touch screen feature was inoperable, and the driver was unable to access certain safety features within the settings on the display. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who diagnosed that the touch screen display unit was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 30,000.

The issue began as air bubbles appearing on the center touchscreen. This has escalated to the screen having episodes of complete loss of control, it acts as if it’s rapidly receiving input and will change settings, perform or end calls, change what’s being displayed. My biggest concern is that it will turn the radio volume completely up. When these episodes occur, I am unable to override anything that is happening. We had the stereo volume turn completely up while on the highway with my [XXX] child in the car and I was unable to turn it down. This was a safety concern for us because if I spent time troubleshooting the screen I was distracted from watching the road while traveling at high speed, but I couldn’t leave the volume blasting with a [XXX] old in the car. I bought my Subaru brand new directly through them in September 2017. Not too long after the warranty deadline (2018 timeframe) my entire touchscreen randomly stopped working. Subaru had said there was nothing they could do without having to replace the entire system. It randomly does its own thing clicking on different buttons like someone is pressing them. There was nothing that happened prior this that would affect the touchscreen from stopping to work.

The software on starlink on Subaru has been a huge burden while driving or in parking mode. When driving the starlink will constantly connect and disconnect to phone. It constantly changing the music by itself. And the navigation system will input random addresses.Messing with my navigation and ability to concentrate.Ive tried many different things to not have this issue.Like turning off the whole radio itself but it turns it’s self on and off there’s been many times where I almost crashed due to this issue.Ive also contacted Subaru since this is a very big known issue. But they did not want to take responsibility the only solution they gave me was to pay $4,000 to change the starlink system.A service that is way out of my budget and something I should not have to pay for.

I have had the windshield replaced in this vehicle three times in less than one year. I recently took my car through a car wash that I use regularly and the next day, there was a new crack on the lower passenger side of the windshield. This is getting expensive to fix and seems to be a defect with the windshield.

FRONT WINDSHIELD DEVELOPED A TINY CRACK WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY, WHICH THEN QUICKLY PROPAGATED THROUGHOUT THE WINDSHIELD. WINDSHIELD WAS REPLACED AT MY EXPENSE.

A SMALL CRACK EMANATING VERTICALLY ON THE PASSENGER SIDE ON THE VERY BOTTOM OF THE SCREEN BEGINNING 1 MONTH AGO HAS SPREAD HORIZONTALLY TOWARDS THE DRIVER'S SIDE.

TWO CRACKS APPEARED IN WINDSHIELD. I DO NOT KNOW IF A ROCK CAUSED IT. SMALL ROCK HITS BEFORE HAVE BEEN REPAIRED. THIESE LARGE CRACKS PROBABLY MEAN A NEW WINDSHIELD.

The display screen for my radio navigation phone etc seems to have a “ghost”. Buttons will rapidly be selected switching radio stations or calling someone on my connected phone or switching to different options available on the screen. It is very distracting while driving and annoying when trying to use for navigation with phone. It has been doing this for quite some time and occurs randomly. I’ve researched this issue online and this has happened to several owners.

My car stereo has gone crazy causing major distractions while driving. Hands free calling doesn’t work, in fact it calls random people on my call list. The screen dances and changes screens all by itself causing major distraction and it has almost caused an accident by the distraction. I’ve read that this issue is a known manufacturing issue and a class action lawsuit was brought against Subaru. I called Subaru and they have refused to give me a warranty radio even thou my dealer confirmed my radio is suffering from the De-lamination issue that’s well known problem with my car.

While Driving my car, i was not able to use the power locks for my front driver and passenger windows. The power window switch on the driver and passenger door don't work. I have made numerous calls about problems with my windows since I purchased my car, but always came back as the code was reset, and they fixed it temporarily. now i am looking at about a 1500 fix for the power windows, which has been a known problem for my car for years. I went to another shop and they told me this is a step below a recall, but subaru knows about it. to me it seems like this is a safety issue, since the windows cant roll down or up.

The navigation/radio screen stopped responding to touch but continues to randomly press buttons. While driving the car the touch screen is randomly calling people, changing radio stations, and messing with the lights and navigation. I reached out to Subaru to let them know what was happening and they claim it is a known issue but they haven't chosen to make a recall on it. They claim it is an issue on all of the vehicles from 2018/2019. They claim the screen is delaminating which is why it is causing random buttons to be pushed making the car extremely unsafe to drive. The distraction alone isn't safe but for me as an autistic driver the inability to turn it off is a huge issue. There is no work around available and it will just continue to make noises and randomly call people and mess with the interior of the vehicle. Working in the insurance industry I see the results of distracted driving and cannot believe this hadn't been recalled yet. There was no warning before this started. The touch screen was working fine on my way to work and then on my way home it started to go crazy. I was unable to use the touch screen installed in the car and am not able to turn it off. Subaru is aware of the issue and has not either created a safe way to disengage the part nor are they willing to replace the part.

The radio on this model, just as some of the later Subaru models, does things on its own, such as switches channels, or become totally non-responsive to touch. This began a few weeks ago and the radio is pretty much useless, unless reprogrammed or replaced. I stopped into Hodges subaru last week and described the problem and I was told that the issue sounded like the 2019-2023 models having the same issue.
Apr 11, 2025
During regular use of the radio and head unit, at times the touch screen or controls, dials, buttons will be unresponsive. The Android Auto software tends to malfunction and will randomly disconnect and the audio will blast, full volume at the driver with the inability to control the volume other than to pull over and turn the vehicle off or manually power down the radio. This has happened on several occasions and with young children in the car, it can damage hearing, cause traumatic injury OR if in motion the driver can become quickly surprised or distracted and jerk the steering wheel or react to the jump in sound level that could injury passengers, or other vehicles occupied that may be nearby. This seems to be an issue with the inability to control sound level between different modes. At times though, the car will start and the radio will be blank, or be unresponsive until the car is turned off and back on again.

The infotainment head unit system and screen with the backup camera is completely malfunctioning. There have been instances where the screen glitches out while backing up and I have almost been in a collision. The head unit makes constant random noises, and screen pop ups that cannot be turned off. This makes for highly distracted and unsafe driving as it makes it quite difficult for the car user to maintain sole focus and attention to the roadways and driving. The extreme glitchiness and phantom touches/noises are just as a distraction and safety concern as driving while using a cellphone which is against the law. The infotainment unit should be fully recalled, not just have a warranty extension. The Subaru dealership has inspected the head unit and declared the failure that was part of a now expired warranty extension. The failures came without warning; however the glitches have gotten more frequent and worse over time.

Aug 2025: 2018 Subaru Legacy, 55,500 miles. ISSUE: Rearview camera froze with high-pitch sound for about 10-seconds, then shut off, while in Reverse. I was not aware immediately of this. Did not hit the cars behind me but definitely could have. Unknown if reverse lights affected. Based on online searches, rearview cameras not working is criteria for a recall. BACKGROUND: My main screen is affected by Subaru Screen Delamination (can't use touch at all). My exact model got an extended warranty, but I was not aware of this extension until after it passed. Subaru of America and dealers refused to service it unless I paid full price out-of-pocket. Fast-forward to now, reverse camera being affected. I also see mention online of emergency broadcast radio being blocked, since it does not stay on one channel, due to screen issues. I do not recommend Subaru (not the only issue I've had on a once new vehicle).

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Door Pillar Rust, yes its available for inspection. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? UNKNOWN Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Contacted Subaru of America Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? Not yet Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear?no. Both front doors have rust perforating from the inside. As you can see in the attached pictures, this is not surface rust nor an issue caused by my actions. After researching online, I found numerous similar issues reported not only with Legacy models but also with Imprezas, Outbacks, and Foresters.

I have been going back and forth with Subaru of America's Advocacy department for about two weeks now, I purchased my 2018 Subaru legacy back in August of 2023. My head unit in my vehicle has now completely stopped working, I have explained that now my back up camera is now freezing and going black and that it poses a safety risk, but they are not helping me, all they keep telling me was the extended warranty for that specific issue expired in July of 2023. when I checked Subaru's recall website, they have completed out that recall in July of 2025, I have never taken my car in for this issue, I was also never aware of this recall. I have all emails going back and forth with the advocacy department. the recall was for "FMVSS 111" per Subaru advocacy dept. my car has a total of two recalls that have been completed out but it shows they were completed out July 26, 2025, I have had possession of this vehicle since 2023 and was never made aware of any open recalls so I never have taken my car into get anything corrected. this vehicle's star link system is still linked to the previous owner because I can't get it to be linked to me yet.

WHILE TRAVELING ON THE INTERSTATE, THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE FRONT WINDSHIELD BECAME DAMAGED FROM UNKNOWN REASONS AFTER EXPERIENCING A SLIGHT DIP IN THE ROAD. A CRACK FORMED AND EXPANDED TO OVER 12 INCHES IN LENGTH QUICKLY. ATTACHED PHOTO 20200829_164645 INCLUDED AS EVIDENCE. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THIS VEHICLE HAS EXPERIENCED FRONT WINDSHIELD DAMAGE. IT WAS REPLACED A LITTLE OVER A YEAR AGO WITH OEM PARTS (CARLEX GLASS) THROUGH MY INSURANCE. ATTACHED PHOTO SCREENSHOT_202... AS EVIDENCE. THAT INCIDENT OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY AND ROAD DEBRIS STRUCK THE PASSENGER EDGE OF THE FRONT WINDSHIELD. A CRACK FORMED AND SPREAD TO THE MIDDLE OF THE WINDSHIELD. DUE TO HAVING EYESIGHT TECHNOLOGY THE FRONT WINDSHIELD IS IMPERATIVE TO SAFETY OPERATIONS AND NEEDS TO REMAIN FREE FROM DEFECTS, SINCE IT CAN CONTROL A VEHICLE'S ACCELERATION, BRAKING, AND STEERING CONTROL SYSTEM. I BELIEVE THAT THE FRONT WINDSHIELD GLASS BEING USED BY SUBARU (CARLEX GLASS) IS SUBSTANDARD AND CREATING A DANGEROUS CONDITION FOR DRIVERS WHO UTILIZE THIS TECHNOLOGY. IF A WINDSHIELD REPLACEMENT IS NEEDED, RECALIBRATION OF EYESIGHT TECHNOLOGY IS REQUIRED TO ENSURE SAFETY COMPLIANCE. THIS ADDITIONAL PROCEDURE CAN DISSUADE OWNERS DUE TO TIME AND COST; THEREBY, CREATING AN ADDITIONAL SAFETY PREDICAMENT BY HAVING DRIVERS OPERATE IMPERFECT VEHICLES. RESEARCH HAS INDICATED SIMILAR COMPLAINTS FROM VARIOUS INDIVIDUALS AND MULTIPLE SUBARU MODELS OVER A SPAN OF YEARS. I IMPLORE YOU TO INVESTIGATE IMMEDIATELY!

THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER WENT BLACK AND REMAINED THIS WAY. AUTOMATIC WINDOWS, ENTERTAINMENT SCREEN, RADIO ALL WORKED BUT CAR WOULD NOT START. A SIMILAR ISSUE HAD HAPPENED TWO WEEKS AGO BUT WE WERE NOT DRIVING... THE CAR WOULD NOT START AND A MASTER SUBARU TECH LOOKED AT CAR AND THEY SAID NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH IT.. OBVIOUSLY THEY WERE WRONG. VERY DISAPPOINTED IN SUBARU. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS ISSUE.

My wife experienced an unintended acceleration in her 2018 Subaru Legacy. My wife had begun to slowly back out of a parking space in a school parking lot when her 2018 Legacy went into an unintended rapid acceleration in reverse. The car took off in reverse and did not respond to her applying the brakes. Somehow she managed to steer the car which was rapidly acceleration in reverse, virtually uncontrollable, and guide the car down a row of parked cars until she clipped the front of another car at the end of the row and her car came to a stop. Thank God there were no students in the parking lot at the time! The floor mats in our Legacy are Subaru mats that lie flat and in no way would affect the accelerator pedal. As the car was accelerating in reverse, and she had removed her foot from the accelerator onto the brake, the brakes did not slow the car. There is considerable damage to the right rear of the car and trunk. After the accident, when the car was restarted, the accelerator and brakes worked fine and she was able to drive it home from the scene. Thank god students were not in the parking lot! The Driver Side Rear View when I started the Car back in January of 2024 after car had been running for 30 Seconds smoke and Fire flames were seen coming through that rear view mirror immediately contacted Subaru of America and was called back with urgency and they fixed this issue but since then I haves a few other issues I believe relate to the wiring inside the vehicle and due to the wiring, which caused the fire. I have tried to contact Subaru of America and let them know this and have had no luck with any type of help with other repairs.

For context, we are the original owners of the 2018 Subaru Legacy car (leased in 2018, and then purchased outright in 2022). At the time of the incident, the car was in pristine condition. We had the oil changed in accordance with the maintenance agreement during the lease, and then every 6,000 miles or whenever the dealership called us to bring in the car. The car had 39,000 miles on it at the time of the incident and had an oil change as recently as 2.5 months prior. While stopped in traffic, the car began making a sputtering noise and all the lights on the dashboard turned on at the same time. When pushing on the gas the car began rolling down the hill towards the car behind me. I put the car into park and then turned it off, and then waved traffic to pass me. After reinserting the key into the ignition, the car began to make the sputtering noise again, but I was able to move the car very slowly onto the shoulder of the road. The greatest danger is that this occurred in moving traffic. Thankfully, there was no harm done to me or anyone else. I had the car towed to the nearest auto mechanic shop. Initially, the shop informed me it was an issue with the spark plug, but upon further investigation, they told me the problem was with the engine and asked me to bring it to the dealership. The dealership is unsure of the exact issue, but stated that it was engine failure (more details in screenshots below). The technician has stated that we will need to completely rebuild the engine to fully identify and fix the problem.

The driver’s side airbag of 2018 Subaru Legacy deployed as I was reversing out of a parking lot going approximately 5mph. It has not been fixed due to the company’s negligence. One of Subaru’s accident advocate specialist claimed the engineer found a mysterious brown liquid that caused the airbag to deploy although I had not been in the car for two hours nor was I drinking any substances; especially “brown”. My and other’s safety was put at risk to a degree that is fatal, I was a short distance from the highway to head home. Had I been driving at the normal highway speed in my city (55mph) with the airbag deploying in my face, with others on the road, and inhaling blinding fumes, I can assure you it would’ve been detrimental to my and other’s being. The car was inspected for a few months by multiple Subaru engineers, one of the accident advocate specialist refused to give me any documentation or pictures proving this was the cause. There was absolutely no warning lights or other malfunctions occurring. The car is in great condition, and in a previous accident did not deploy its airbags.

My car's belt had been screeching for a few weeks. I was planning on taking my car in the next day. When i turned my car off, all the electrical went out and it started smoking on the driver's side. I got my car towed to the nearest auto shop. They replaced the battery and belt and yet the electrical was still out. When they tested the fuse, the driver's mirror caught on fire and was smoking. Thank goodness I was not driving when this occurred as that could have been scary. They replaced the fuse, but now I can't auto up / down my window. When I reached out to Subaru, they wanted $200 just to inspect it and $1,000 for a mirror replacement. I told them the situation and they didn't care. I also emailed them and never received a response. I googled this issue and other Subaru cars have had this issue and noted water coming in the mirror so now I'm frightened to get a car wash. There was no warning light or anything unfamiliar.

The contact owns a 2018 Subaru Legacy. The contact stated that after starting the vehicle, the headlights failed to illuminate, and the rearview camera was intermittently flashing and displaying a blank image. The contact stated that on various occasions when the vehicle was parked, the parking brake failed to activate as needed. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed that the head unit software needed to be updated; however, the part for the repair was on backorder. The vehicle was not repaired and occasionally failed to start. The VIN was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V935000 (Visibility) or Number: 18V626000 (Parking Brake). The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 23,191.

I was going down the hill in my development, I made it approximately 2-300ft at 7-10MPH when suddenly there was a loud “bang”. I could not see anything, my airbags had deployed and blocked my field of vision. I ended up hitting an electrical pole. There was no need for the airbags to go off. I could have been killed. There is no airbag recall on my VIN number.

CAR WAS AT A TURNING INTERSECTION. CAR WAS COMPLETELY STOPPED, FOOT WAS APPLIED TO BRAKE WITH NORMAL PRESSURE. WITHIN A FEW SECONDS, CAR STARTED TO PROGRESS FORWARD, I LIFTED FOOT OFF BRAKE AND REAPPLIED. THE BRAKE DID NOT SENSE PRESSURE, I PUT THE CAR IN PARK. THESE ACTIONS DID NOT STOP THE CAR. LAST EFFORT ATTEMPT WAS TO LIFT THE EMERGENCY BRAKE APPLIED. THIS STOPPED THE CAR. I TURN OFF THE ENGINE AND RESTARTED THE CAR.

ON JUNE 6, 2019, WE TOOK OUR CAR IN FOR REGULAR MAINTENANCE AND TO PERFORM TWO OUTSTANDING RECALLS THAT INVOLVED "SOFTWARE REPROGRAMMING" -- ONE FOR THE FUEL GAUGE (WHICH APPARENTLY MAY NOT PROPERLY REFLECT LOW GAS LEVELS) AND ONE FOR THE HEAD UNIT (WHICH MAY FAIL TO INITIALIZE AND ACTIVATE THE BACKUP CAMERA). WE HAD _ZERO_ PROBLEMS WITH THE HEAD UNIT (OR FUEL GAUGE TO OUR KNOWLEDGE) PRIOR TO THE RECALL WORK. NOW THE HEAD UNIT FAILS TO INITIALIZE FOR SEVERAL MINUTES EVERY FEW TIMES WE START OUR CAR -- THE _EXACT_ ISSUE THAT THE RECALL WAS INITIATED TO ADDRESS. I AM ALSO CONCERNED THAT THE FUEL GAUGE REPROGRAMMING MAY NOT HAVE REMEDIED THAT SENSING ERROR EITHER. I CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER, WHICH HAS INSTRUCTED US TO RETURN TO THE SAME DEALER TO HAVE THEM TRY TO FIX IT AGAIN. WE SCHEDULED THEIR NEXT AVAILABLE APPOINTMENT ON JULY 3RD, BUT NOW HAVE NO CONFIDENCE THAT THE SOFTWARE REPROGRAMMING ROLLED OUT BY SUBARU ACTUALLY REMEDIED THE MANUFACTURING DEFECTS. INDEED, IT APPEARS TO HAVE INTRODUCED A DEFECT INTO OUR HEAD UNIT SYSTEM.

TL* THE CONTACT STATED THEY RENTED A 2018 SUBARU LEGACY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE AT AN UNDISCLOSED SPEED, THE COLLISION AVOIDANCE SYSTEM ACTIVATED CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO STOP INDEPENDENTLY AND THE WHEEL TO TURN. AS A RESULT, THE VEHICLE HIT A CURB. THERE WAS MINOR DAMAGE TO THE PASSENGER SIDE BUMPER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE RENTAL AGENCY WAS NOT INFORMED. NEITHER A DEALER NOR THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED OR MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE OCCURRED THREE TIMES. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

ON THE DASHBOARD SHOWED THAT THE REMAIN MILEAGE WAS 70, BUT IT STOPPED ALL THE SUDDEN DUE TO NO GAS. I ALMOST CAUSED AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE THE CAR STOPPED ON A PUBLIC STREET WITH HEAVY TRAFFIC. AFTER MANY TIMES TRYING TO START THE CAR, IT DID NOT WORK; IT WAS COMPLETELY DEAD. I HAD TO LEAVE THE CAR STRANDED TO GO AND GET GAS TO THE NEAREST GAS STATION.

THE RADIO/NAVIGATION SCREEN WENT BLANK. THE REAR VIEW CAMERA, NAVIGATION, STEREO. ETC. NO LONGER WORK. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER TODAY AND WAS TOLD THE RADIO HEAD NEEDS REPLACED. PROBLEM IS THEY ARE ON NATIONAL BACK ORDER AND NO ONE CAN SAY HOW LONG IT WILL TAKE TO GET IT. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE BACK UP CAMERA NO LONGER WORKS AND CROSS TRAFFIC WARNING NO LONGER WORKS AND THE NAVIGATION NO LONGER WORKS.

PURCHASED A NEW SUBARU LEGACY FEB. 28, 2018. AFTER ONLY 70 MILES THE WARNING LIGHT FOR SEAT BELTS AND AIRBAG MALFUNCTION APPEARED ON A STARLINK SYSTEM AND DASH. AFTER IMMEDIATELY TAKING IT IN AT THE LOCAL CAR DEALER, SERVICE AGENTS CLAIMED THAT A "RODENT" HAS CAUSED THE DAMAGE. AFTER FURTHER RESEARCH, WE HAVE DISCOVERED A NATIONAL CIVIL SUIT AGAINST SUBARU. APPARENTLY THEY ARE USING BIODEGRADABLE MATERIALS ON THE WIRING OF MANY NEW CARS THAT ATTRACTS SQUIRRELS AND MICE. WE HAVE LIVED AT OUR CURRENT RESIDENCE FOR OVER 35 YEARS WITH NUMEROUS CARS IN THE DRIVEWAY WITHOUT THIS PROBLEM. CONSUMER REPORTS ON JULY 10,2017, REPORTED THAT THEY HAVE UNCOVERED VARIOUS TECHNICAL BULLETINS FROM FORD, GM, HONDA, TOYOTA, AS WELL AS SUBARU CONCERNING THIS ISSUE. DEALER, AT THE MOMENT, REFUSES TO FIX IT WITHOUT EXTENSIVE COST TO US. THIS IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM WITH THIS CAR--DRIVING IT WOULD NOT ONLY BE UNSAFE BUT ILLEGAL SINCE THE AIR BAG AS WELL AS THE SEAT BELTS SHOW A MALFUNCTION. FIXING IT MAY NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM ON PERMANENT BASIS.

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
1 complaint
OUR RECENT PURCHASE OF A 2018 SUBARU LEGACY HAS LEFT US WITH A VERY UNHAPPY REALIZATION. WE HAVE A SUBARU OUTBACK AND LIKE THE CAR BUT VERY UNHAPPY WITH THE CRUISE. WE DID NOT REALIZE THE CRUISE CONTROL ADVANCES 1 OR 5 MPH RATHER THAN THE CONVENTIONAL CRUISE OF 1 MPH. WE HAVE FOUND THIS FEATURE TO BE NOT ONLY ON SUBARU BUT MANY OTHER MAKES OF VEHICLES. FROM RESEARCHING ONLINE AND TALKING TO OTHERS HAVE FOUND WE ARE NOT THE ONLY ONES THAT DO NOT LIKE IT AND FEEL IT IS UNSAFE. THERE DOES NOT SEEM TO BE A REASON TO ADVANCE 5 MPH RATHER THAN 1 MPH. WHEN USING THIS TYPE OF CRUISE IT IS NECESSARY TO WATCH THE SPEEDOMETER, RATHER THAN PAYING ATTENTION TO THE ROAD, TO GET TO THE ANTICIPATED SPEED AND THEN QUICKLY SET AND HOPE YOU LOCKED-IN THE DESIRED SPEED. IF THE DESIRED SPEED IS NOT REACHED THE FIRST TIME THEN IT IS PUSHING THE CRUISE AND HOLDING IT, HOPING THAT IT ONLY ADVANCED 1 MPH RATHER THAN 5 MPH, OTHERWISE IT IS CANCELING AND TRYING AGAIN. WE CONTACTED SUBARU ABOUT THIS AND WERE TOLD THAT IF THERE ARE ENOUGH COMPLAINTS THEY WOULD CONSIDER A SOFTWARE UPDATE. IT WAS ALSO EXPLAINED THAT WE WOULD NOT HAVE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE IF WE WERE TOLD THIS BEFORE THE PURCHASE OF THE CAR. WE LOOKED AT THE WEBSITES FOR THE SAFEST VEHICLES AND SUBARU IS AT THE TOP OF THE LIST BUT THIS TYPE OF CRUISE CONTROL TAKES AWAY THE SAFETY; EVERYONE IS PREACHING TO REDUCE DISTRACTIONS WHEN DRIVING BUT TAKING AWAY THE CONVENTIONAL CRUISE CONTROL AND IMPLEMENTING SUCH A DISTRACTION DEFEATS THE PURPOSE. WE HOPE THIS COMPLAINT LEADS BACK TO VEHICLES HAVING CONVENTIONAL CRUISE CONTROL AS THE STANDARD EQUIPMENT.
