The engine stalled unexpectedly during operation. I noticed a sudden loss of power, and the vehicle shut off without warning. This has happened more than once, posing a safety concern.

THE ENGIN MALFUNCTIONED. MY SAFETY AND THE SAFETY OF OTHERS WAS AT RISK BECAUSE WHEN AN ENGIN FAILS WHILE DRIVING IT CAN CAUSE A SERIOUS CRASH. THE VALVE SPRING WHICH IS LOCATED INSIDE THE ENGIN OF THE VEHICLE DID FRACTURE WHICH RESULTED IN THE ENGIN STALLING WHILE DRIVING AND WAS NOT ABLE TO BE RESTARTED. AN ENGIN STALL WHILE DRIVING WILL INCREASE THE RISK OF A CRASH AND SERIOUS INJURY. THERE WERE NO WARNINGS, THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN CONFIRMED BY A SUBARU DEALER SERVICE MANAGER.

MY 2013 SUBARU CROSSTREK stalled on the highway in March 2023 while I was driving home from work. I brought it to Hassett Subaru in Wantagh because a friend told me that there was a recall on the spring valve (from 5 years ago, which I was never notified of). Vlad Oriol wanted to charge me a few thousand dollars to breakdown the engine, even though that was a requirement of the recall. I checked the VIN and found out my car was covered by the spring valve recall. Since the car was unsafe to drive, I then called Subaru headquarters who sent a tech supervisor to investigate the situation. The tech supervisor said the problem was due to the recall so the engine breakdown was covered. The tech supervisor said the "rocker arm had come loose from excessive lash, but was tied to the recall issue," and also added that there was no other damage. Hassett Subaru was forced by Subaru headquarters to preform the recall fix. I picked up my car (we live 2 miles from Hassett) and the very next day the car wouldn't accelerate and was constantly misfiring. I brought the car back to Hassett. The tech supervisor came out again to investigate, this time there was additional damage to the cam shaft (which was not there before Hassett worked on the car). Hassett told Subaru headquarters that there was a preexisting issue with the car (which was totally false). As a result Subaru headquarters would not cover the cost to fix the problem that Hassett caused by attempting to fix the recall issue. Thanks to Hassett's misrepresentations to Subaru headquarters we have a car that doesn't run and can't afford a new one.

On October 31 2020, The AC compressor on my vehicle caught fire while I was driving. This caused a foul odorous smoke to fill the cabin of my vehicle which was cough inducing and limited my vision. The air conditioner was not on at this time because of pleasant ambient temperatures outside. I no longer have this part because it was replaced at the dealership along with the serpentine belt that was damaged due to the fire. There was no warning light or noticeable change in the vehicle driving before the incident. I was unaware that I could report this incident until I found this website today.

Transmission failure while driving on highway caused it to suddenly stalled. On restarting engine, car kept jerking and stopping, became undrivable. Only 46,700 miles on the clock. No warning lights, no warning of any kind. Subaru issued 10 year extended warranty covering transmission on this car but should have recalled and replaced since failure is catastrophic and dangerous. I took my car to Subaru dealer and they found low transmission fluid. Instead of inspecting the seals, they blamed the problem on oil change by an independent garage, accusing them of erroneously drained out transmission fluid before the car broke down.

HILL DESCENT, SWAY CONTROL, ABS LIGHTS CAME ON AT THE SAME TIME ON THE WAY TO WORK, I WAS COMING OF AN EXIT. I HAD THE CODES CHECKED AND NOTHING WAS SHOWING. OVER A MONTH LATER, THE CHECK ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION TEMP LIGHTS CAME ON MY TO WORK. I IMMEDIATELY TURNED AROUND AND PARKED MY CAR. TRANS TEMP LIGHT WAS BLINKING. A FEW DAYS LATER I HAD IT TAKEN TO A SUBARU DEALERSHIP FOR SERVICE. I PAID FOR A DIAGNOSTIC. THE RESULT WAS A $1600 BILL FOR A VALVE BODY KIT, TRANS COVER GASKET, O-RING, TRANS BODY WIRING HARNESS.

I HAVE MAINTAINED MY VEHICLE SINCE PURCHASE, ALWAYS COMPLETE ROUTINE MAINTNENCE AND AS I WAS ON A TRIP, ALL OF MY LIGHTS CAME ON. I FLUSHED TRANSMISSION AND THEY CAME BACK ON. I HAVE RESEARCHED MY ISSUE AND IT IS COMMON WITH THIS YEAR. SUBARU EVEN EXTENDED WARRANTY WITH THESE YEARS, YET HAS RECALLED ANY OF THE PARTS RELATED TO THE CVT TRANSMISSION. I HAD NO ISSUES, NO WARNING, WAS JUST DRIVING AND EVERYTHING CAME ON.

AT APPROXIMATELY 64K MILES OUR XV CROSSTREK BEGAN EMITTING A LOUD HUM FROM THE REAR AND OUR GAS MILEAGE DECREASED SIGNIFICANTLY (18 MPG). WHEN WE TOOK IT INTO OUR MECHANIC, HE FOUND THAT THE REAR HUBS WERE DANGEROUSLY DEGRADED AND THAT THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL WAS FAILING. IN HIS OPINION, FAILURE OF THOSE SYSTEMS AT ONLY 64K MILES SUGGESTED A DESIGN OR PART DEFECT.

A piece of the sunroof assembly punctured through the headliner into the passenger seat area of the vehicle. The piece is a sharp 10 inch spike with a spring wrapped around it. Had the piece come into the driver side or if there had been a passenger. It would have gone into there head, either causing an accident or severe injury to the driver or passenger.

The key will not come out of the ignition when turned off and in park. The battery runs with no way to turn it off. This is a known issue with a defective part. Subaru will not cover the repair.

The key will not come out of the ignition when the vehicle is in park. Sometimes it has to sit a few minutes before I can remove it. Sometimes it has to sit for many hours before I can remove it. I've been dealing with it for 10 months.

I CAN"T REMOVE THE KEY FROM THE IGNITION WHEN THE CAR IS PUT IN PARK. THIS ISSUE WARRANTS A RECALL. THIS IS CAUSED BY PROBLEMS WITH THE PARK-RANGE SWITCH ACROSS SEVERAL SUBARU MODELS FROM 2012-2018. SUBARU ISSUED SERVICE BULLETIN 16-112-18R REGARDING THIS ON 3/15/18. THIS IS A WELL KNOWN ISSUE BY OWNERS, DEALERSHIPS AND SUBARU OF AMERICA (SOA). NUMEROUS CAR FORUMS AND BLOGS ADDRESS OWNERS' STEPS TO GET THIS REPAIRED. THE SOLUTIONS OFFERED BY THE DEALERS RANGE FROM ' YOUR CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY AND IT WILL RUN HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS TO FIX' TO ' YES THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE BRING IT IN AND WE WILL REPLACE IT NO CHARGE'. SOA'S RESPONSE TO OWNERS VARIED FROM 'WE WILL TAKE CARE IT TO WE'LL HAVE TO SEE IF WE CAN HELP YOU OUT'. MY DEALER'S RESPONSE WAS '$700 TO REPAIR ' YOU MIGHT CALL SOA TO SEE IF THEY CAN HELP OUT.' FORTUNATELY/UNFORTUNATELY THERE IS A QUICK FIX EASILY FOUND ONLINE THAT YOU CAN DO IN LESS THAN 5 MINUTES BY DISCONNECTING THE SWITCH TO THE IGNITION. THIS SOLVES THE PROBLEM OF THE STUCK KEY BUT ALSO DISABLES THE CHIME IF YOU LEAVE THE KEYS IN THE IGNITION AND ALSO ALLOWS YOU TO EXIT THE VEHICLE IF THE CAR IS NOT IN PARK. SO NOW, IF YOU ARE NOT CAREFUL, YOU CAN LOCK YOUR KEYS IN THE CAR AND IF THE CAR IS NOT IN PARK OR THE HAND BREAK IS NOT ENGAGED YOUR CAR WILL ROLL AWAY. I HAVE DONE THE QUICK FIX ' BUT EVEN WITH ALL SORTS OF WAYS TO HELP ME REMEMBER I AM NOT COMFORTABLE.. THIS IS A SAFTEY ISSUE. WHEN I MENTIONED THE FIX TO SOA AS CAUSING A SAFETY ISSUE THEY SAID THAT WAS MY PROBLEM NOT THEIRS. REALLY? MY CAR IS S 2013 AND I WILL NOT COMMIT TO $700 AT THE DEALER WITHOUT KNOWING IF SOA WILL PAY.

I RECENTLY SWITCHED TIRES FROM WINTER TO SUMMER TIRES. I BROUGHT IN MY SUBARU INTO THE FREMONT SUBARU SERVICE CENTER FOR SERVICE. I WANTED TO CHECK ALL THE NUTS HOLDING THE TIRE ON WERE PROPERLY TORQUED. I TRUSTED THEM TO DO A GOOD JOB, A COUPLE DAYS LATER WHILE PULLING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY I WAS ROLLING DOWN THE ROAD WHEN I HEARD A THUMPING NOISE. I was t-boned on 11/7 on the driver side door of the car. My car is totaled and the airbags, knee and curtain did not deploy and I was hit almost dead on on the B pillar. Unknown if the problem has been reproduced by the dealer.My knee is still hurting from the accident and my head smacked the frame.The vehicle has not been inspected by the manufacturer, but has by police, insurance, and others. All said the airbags should have deployed. There were no warning lights or otherwise to notify me that the airbags would not work.

The dashboard light says that the airbag is OFF, while it is occupied by a large teenager (over 100lbs) in the Right Front passenger seat. Teenager was buckled into moving vehicle when this concern was observed. Front Right passenger airbag has never been deactivated by owner/driver. Took car to be inspected at a Subaru dealer on 13Aug24, but Subaru techs unable to replicate problem at time of visit and reported no known recall notice for this problem. Since inspection, problem has reoccurred randomly.

INTERSECTION OF AIRPORT BLVD AND SCOTT ST. IN HOUSTON. BETWEEN 545 TO 6 PM WAS THE INCIDENT. WEATHER WAS PERFECT. BETWEEN 70 TO 75 DEGREES. BRIGHT AND CLEAR CONDITIONS. I WAS COMING FROM THE EAST SIDE OF AIRPORT BLVD TOWARDS THE SOUTH SIDE OF SCOTT. THIS ROAD WAS A 35 MPH ROAD. AS I TURNED LEFT SEEING THAT THE OTHER SIDE WAS CLEAR, I STARTED MOVING AND I GOT HIT BY A DODGE DURANNGO WHO WAS SPEEDING UP AT MAYBE 60-70 MPH. I SURVIVED THE ACCIDENT BUT BASED ON PRELIMINARY ASSESSMENT, MY CAR WAS DECLARED TOTALED. THE IMPACT WAS SO STRONG. THE OTHER DRIVER WERE GIVEN VARIOUS CITATIONS BY THE POLICE AND WAS DETERMINED TO BE AT FAULT. HE WAS ALSO DRIVING WITHOUT AN INSURANCE AND A LICENSE. I HOWEVER FELT AGGRIEVED KNOWING THAT MY CAR WAS TOTALED AND I SUFFERED MINOR INJURIES. I HOWEVER WAS SHOCKED THAT DESPITE THE STRONG IMPACT OF THE COLLISION, NONE OF THE AIRBAGS WERE DEPLOYED. I CAN PROVIDE PHOTOS IF NEEDED. THE IMPACTED SIDE WAS ON THE FRONT SIDE AND AS I WAS NAVIGATING SUBARU'S WEBSITE, IT LOOKS LIKE THEY HAD RECALL OF THEIR 2004 TO 2005 VEHICLES FOR ISSUES OF AIR BAGS NOT DEPLOYING ON THE RIGHT SIDE. THIS IS WHERE I ABSORBED A STRONG IMPACT ON MY CAR AND I HAVE A SUSPICION THAT I HAVE A SIMILAR CASE. SUBARU CROSSTREK 2013 WAS I THINK THEIR FIRST RELEASE OF THIS MODEL SO THERE ARE NOT MANY STUDIES OF THE PERFORMANCE OF THIS VEHICLE. I DEMAND FOR AN INVESTIGATION. The contact owns a 2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek. The contact stated while starting the vehicle, the steering wheel was difficult to turn to the left and to the right. The contact stated that the steering assist warning light was illuminated. The contact was able to drive to her destination at a slow speed. The contact took the vehicle to two independent mechanics who were both unable to diagnose the cause of the failure. The contact called the local dealer and made them aware of the failure. An appointment was scheduled. The vehicle was not yet diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 113,400.

WE WENT SKIING WITH OUR KIDS LAST SATURDAY. THERE WAS AN ICE STORM THE NIGHT BEFORE AND THE ROADS WERE BAD. WE WERE TRAVELING ABOUT 50 MILES. I HAVE DRIVEN ICY ROADS MY WHOLE LIFE AND HAVE OWNED SEVERAL SUBARUS. AT ANY SPEED OVER 45 MPH THE BACK END WOULD KICK SIDEWAYS. I COULD TELL BY THE OTHER CAR'S ON THE ROAD THAT DAY THAT MY PROBLEM WAS UNIQUE. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION WITH DRIVERS THAT ARE NOT USED TO WINTER DRIVING. WHEN I PURCHASED THE CAR THEY TOLD ME TO ROTATE THE TIRES AT THE CORRECT INTERVALS BECAUSE THE COMPUTER WILL ADJUST THE SPEED OF THE TIRES SEPARATELY. I THINK THE COMPUTER ADJUSTMENTS ARE THE PROBLEM. IT MUST BE ABLE TO TELL IF IS SLIPPING AND ADJUST THE SPEED OF THE REAR TIRE AND KICK IT SIDEWAYS. AFTER PARKING THE CAR IN -18 DEGREE AIR TEMPERATURE, FOR ONLY 20 MINUTES, THE POWER STEERING STOPPED WORKING. I CALLED THE DEALER FROM WHERE I BOUGHT THE NEW CAR 2 MONTHS EARLIER, TO ASK FOR AN APPOINTMENT. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT CHARLIE'S MOTOR MALL IN AUGUSTA, MAINE SAID THAT THEY HAD THREE INCIDENCES OF THIS HAPPENING THE DAY BEFORE AND THAT IS WEATHER RELATED. MY WIFE AND I USED TO LOVE THIS CAR BUT......WHILE DRIVING MY RELATIVELY NEW 2013 CROSSTREK 11,000 MILES FROM WISCONSIN TO DETROIT TO ATTEND THE WINTER HOCKEY CLASSIC HAD REPEATED PROBLEMS WITH GHOSTWALKING. (THIS IS MY 4TH SUBARU AND MY 36TH WINTER DRIVING SEASON SO NOT AN INEXPERIENCE PROBLEM.) IT WAS SNOWING BUT THE ROADS WERE CLEAR OF THICK SNOW BUT HAD A THIN GREASY SHEEN. IT WAS DIFFICULT TO KEEP A STRAIGHT LINE AND THE REAR END FELT LIKE IT WANTED TO SPIN OUT (THE OLD REAR WHEEL DRIVE FEEL) ESPECIALLY IF THE WIND BLEW. MOST CARS WERE PASSING ME OLD NEW BIG SMALL. AS A SUBARU DRIVER I AM USED TO PASSING OTHERS ON WINTER ROADS AND DID NOT LIKE FEELING LIKE THE LITTLE OLD MAN EVERYONE WAS STEERING AROUND. THINKING THE PROBLEM WAS THE FACTORY INSTALLED TIRES, WE BOUGHT NEW SNOW TIRES FOR $925 AT BELLE TIRE THE MORNING OF THE RETURN HOME. SIMILAR WEATHER (SNOWY BLOWING GREASY ROADS). THE CAR HANDLED SLIGHTLY BETTER. BUT EACH TIME WE GOT UP TO SPEEDS OVER 40 MPH THE CAR WOULD TRY TO TURN ABRUPTLY WHENEVER WE WENT UNDER OR OVER AN OVERPASS ON A STRAIGHTAWAY....VERY NERVE RACKING. ENDED UP BAILING OUT IN A HOTEL IN TOLEDO UNTIL THE NEXT MORNING WHEN THE ROADS WERE MOSTLY BARE AND DRY. I AM VERY FAMILIAR AND LIKE THE FEELING OF THE AWD KICKING IN TO ENHANCE THE TRACTION AND CONTROL OF THE CAR. IN THIS SITUATION IT FEELS LIKE THE AWD IS KICKING IN AND TRYING TO TURN THE CAR ANYTIME THERE IS A SLIGHT SLICK SPOT. DID CHECK TO SEE IF THE CAR WOULD TRY TO DRIFT LEFT OR RIGHT ON A DRY FLAT STRAIGHTAWAY (GOES STRAIGHT). I AM HOPING THE PROBLEM IS RELATED TO A REAR END ALIGNMENT ISSUE BUT DISCONCERTED BY MY CAR WHICH FEELS DANGEROUS WHEN I MOST NEED IT TO BE RELIABLE. The recall Type: Safety Service Campaign:WTY84 NHTSA Campaign: 18V772000 FB20 Valve Spring Replacement was reported completed by the manufacturer Subaru has no record of it being done. My car is now experiencing symptoms of this recall when I had no issues prior and want me to pay to look into the problem further. Now my vehicle has a check engine light for a recall that was potentially not done as I have no proof that it was completed.

TOOK MY VEHICLE IN FOR A RECALL SERVICE FOR THE ENGINE VALVE SPRING. AFTER THE SERVICE WAS COMPLETED AND WITH A LITTLE OVER A HUNDRED MILES DRIVEN SINCE THE SERVICE, MY ENGINE STOPPED WHILE AT A RED. AFTER RESTARTING THE CAR, MY ENGINE LIGHT HAS COME ON.

THE VEHICLE HAS A CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION. WHEN APPROACHING A STOP LIGHT OR STOP SIGN I REMOVE MY FOOT FROM THE GAS PEDAL AND THEN THE VEHICLE STARTS TO SLOW DOWN. WHEN THE ENGINE RPM'S REACH AROUND 1400 RPM THE VEHICLE QUITS SLOWING DOWN AND CONTINUES FORWARD AT WHAT EVER SPEED IT IS AT. THE CAR MAY NOT BE ACCELERATING BUT IT FEELS LIKE IT IS BECAUSE IT QUITS SLOWING DOWN. IF I TOUCH THE BRAKE A BIT THE ENGINE AGAIN SLOWS DOWN UNTIL IT REACHES THE IDLE RPM OF ABOUT 750. ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS I HAVE HAD TO QUICKLY HIT THE BRAKES TO AVOID HITTING THE VEHICLE IN FROM OF ME. I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE IN MINNESOTA AND NOTICED THE PROBLEM WITHIN THE FIRST WEEK BUT DIDN'T PURSUE IT UNTIL I GOT TO TEXAS AS THIS IS WHERE THE VEHICLE WILL BE KEPT. THE TEXAS SUBARU SERVICE FOUND NO DIAGNOSTIC CODES AND DROVE THE VEHICLE WITH ME AND NOTICED WHAT I DID. THE TEXAS SUBARU SERVICE MANAGER HAD ME DRIVE A 2014 AND IT DOES THE SAME THING BUT SEEMS TO START SLOWING DOWN AGAIN ONCE IT HAS DONE THE ACCELERATION AT 1400 RPM FOR A SECOND OR TWO. THEY OPENED A TECH LINE CASE FILE BUT SAY THERE IS NOTHING ELSE THEY CAN DO. ON TWO OCCASIONS WHILE TRAVELING OVER 70 MPH ON I-26 OUTSIDE OF COLUMBIA, SC THE VEHICLE'S ELECTRIC SYSTEM APPEARED TO MALFUNCTION AND VEHICLE DIED IMMEDIATELY. THE CLOCK, FUEL ECONOMY READINGS, AND RADIO SHUT OFF. THE VEHICLE STALLED AND HAD TO BE MANEUVERED TO THE SHOULDER OF THE INTERSTATE WITH NO ACCELERATION CAPABILITY OR POWER STEERING. THE VEHICLE WAS CAPABLE OF BEING RESTARTED. ON THE FIRST OCCASION, I RESTARTED THE VEHICLE AND THERE WERE NO FAULTS, ERRORS OR ANYTHING NOTED SO I CONTINUED TO DRIVE, ASSUMING IT WAS A ONE TIME EVENT. THE SECOND TIME, THE SAME PROBLEM HAPPENED AND THEN A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT APPEARED. FOLLOWING THE SECOND TIME, CHECK ENGINE ILLUMINATED, AS WELL AS THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT, AND THE CRUISE CONTROL IMAGE WAS BLINKING. PRIOR TO ALL OF THESE PROBLEMS, I WAS HAVING MAY ISSUES ENGAGING THE CRUISE CONTROL AND TRIED MULTIPLE BUTTON SEQUENCES TO MAKE CRUISE CONTROL WORK. I WAS ABLE TO GET VEHICLE TO AUTOPARTS STORE WHERE CODE READ P0021. TO GET SAFELY HOME, THE AUTOPARTS STORE RECOMMENDED THAT I DO A RESET BY DISCONNECTING BATTERY AND TURNING OFF ALL ELECTRONICS. THIS WORKED AND I HAVE DRIVEN SINCE WITHOUT THE SAME EVENT. THIS COULD EASILY HAVE BEEN FATAL AND MUST BE INVESTIGATED.

OUR SUBARU CROSSTREK RECENTLY HAD A SENSOR ISSUE CAUSING THE CAR TO THINK IT WASN'T IN PARK WHEN IT WAS IN FACT IN PARK. THIS CAUSED THE IGNITION TO NOT RELEASE THE KEY PROPERLY, WHICH MEANT YOU COULD NOT LEAVE THE CAR UNLESS YOU LEFT THE KEY IN THE IGNITION AND DIDN'T LOCK IT. THIS IS APPARENTLY A COMMON PROBLEM ON SUBARUS BASED ON TALKING WITH SERVICE REPS AND SEARCHING THE INTERNET. WHY THIS HAS NOT BEEN RECALLED, I AM NOT SURE. THE REPAIR FOR THIS LITTLE SENSOR WAS QUITE EXPENSIVE. $449.00

The fan in my car, that controls the heat/air-conditioning, went out causing my windows to fog up since it was raining & I couldn't use the dehumidifier. I couldn't see & had to manually wipe my windshield several times & drive with my hazard lights on in order to get the car home. There were no warning lights on the dashboard. I took the car to a mechanic shop on another day, when they could not find the problem through a diagnostic the mechanic took apart the dashboard & that's when he found the wires connected to the control panel were melting/overheating. He said it was very dangerous because it could cause the car to catch fire. He said he had to leave the wires disconnected to prevent the car catching fire until the wires and control panel could be replaced. When I looked up if others were having the same problem, I found other Subaru Crosstrek owners with the same issue and many of them stated it happened again after replacing the affected parts. The control panel is not a wear-and-tear part so I was told I would have to get it from a Subaru dealership. I have not been able to take it to a Subaru dealership yet due to the weather but the car is available for inspection upon request. It has not been inspected yet by anyone besides my mechanic.

THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE FAN FAILED TO WORK. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE HEATER BLOWER CONTROL POWER PLUG SHORTED AND MELTED THE CONNECTOR. AS A RESULT, THE HEATER BLOWER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 106,454.

While slowing to turn into a turn lane, my care unexpectedly accelerated to a very high speed, causing me to crash straight into a signal light post. The light post was knocked over by the force of impact. The car ended up around the corner, facing the opposite direction and having hit another car. Police responded to the scene and inspected the vehicle, which was towed away. An insurance claim has been filed, though I am unaware if they have inspected the vehicle yet. The passenger airbag deployed but driver airbag did not. I had no warning before the sudden acceleration and this is the only time something like this happened.

MY SUBARU DEALER COMPLETED 2 RECALL ITEMS ON 7/24/2019 - 8/1/2019 ON MY 2013 SUBARU CROSSTREK.THE ENGINE VALVE SPRINGS AND BREAK LIGHT SWITCH. AFTER WORK WAS COMPLETED, ON 8/1/2019 I HAD MY BUMPER REPLACED FROM A REAR-END ACCIDENT I EXPERIENCED ON 7/16 (POSSIBLE BREAK LIGHT SWITCH MALFUNCTION-- IT WAS THE THIRD TIME I HAVE BEEN REAR-ENDED IN THIS CAR SINCE PURCHASE). 8/7/2019 I PICKED UP MY CAR FROM THE AUTOBODY SHOP AND DROVE 2 MI. HOME AND PARKED WITH NO ISSUE. 8/8/2019 I DROVE 35 MI. ONE WAY TO WORK WITHOUT INCIDENT... **RETURNING HOME, I DROVE ROUGHLY 25-MILES AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS OF 45-70MPH, AND 5-MILES IN LIGHT, STOP-AND-GO TRAFFIC. 30-MILES INTO MY TRIP AT AROUND 5-15MPH MY CAR BEGAN TO SHAKE AND VIBRATE, I CONTINUED TO DRIVE, TRAVELING SLOWLY, TRYING TO DISCERN IF THE SHAKING WAS COMING FROM MY CAR OR FROM ONE OF MY TIRES. ALL OF A SUDDEN ALL OF MY ERROR LIGHTS ILLUMINATED ON MY DASHBOARD AND MY ENGINE LOST POWER AND STALLED OUT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY (THE LIGHTS AND STEREO WERE STILL ON). At various times of day or night, the brake lights turn on, while there is no one in the vehicle. The vehicle sits parked and is locked with the security on, and the lights just randomly turn on by themselves. The only way to turn the lights off is to go into the vehicle and step on the brake and then the lights are off after releasing the brake pedal. If the lights stay on, because it’s not noticed, then the battery drains and then needs to be jumped. It is concerning for vehicles traveling behind, because one wouldn’t know if there is an issue happening while traveling and could cause someone to be rear ended.

For the record I'm going to list the items here I'd rather them go down in writing then for my words to not have a witness. 1- safety : the Bluetooth connection is busted and crackling for both me and the caller 2- Automation: nothing happens automatic in this car the locks do not go down when I get in motion . the sunroof and the windows do not roll up in auxiliary power after the key is off. 3- Oil: every thousand Miles the oil light to show up I cannot live like that carrying oil in my car when I run a thousand miles every 3 weeks. 4- DENT REPAIR : have asked you to schedule the date guy to pull this dent out of the front driver wheel well and that hasn't happened yet 5- locking mechanism: the trunk has to be slammed closed every time. The passenger side seat belt noise comes on even if I put a bag of to go food in the seat. 6- sanitation: these seats are infected with something I have cleaned them multiple times and my passengers are complaining of itching and feeling a bite when they ride. 7- the front passenger seat has obviously some strong stain that resembles body fluid because it will not come up even when i clean up in the seat of the cushion it keeps reappearing to the surface. 8- overhead: when it rains above my head you can hear sounds of rain as though it's literally trickling in at the driver door. More than I have noticed that sound I'm not sure what's going on in the overhead but it shouldn't sound like that. PLEASE AND THANKS

Driving on the freeway my car lost power i pulled off to the side and tried to restart it. As I have the ignition turned over for 30 to 40 seconds the starter sounded erratic and the oil temperature light was flashing. I sat there for about ten minutes and tried again and it did the same thing but it started. This power loss has happened twice. The erratic noise coming from the ignition, and the hesitation of starting is a regular ongoing issue along with the oil temperature light. Since the first stall at about 117000 miles on the odometer the car has been burning oil at a rate of a full quart about every 3000 miles. #2 Around 120000 miles my key wouldn't come out of the ignition. This happened first on a late night in a high crime area. I actually had to leave my keys in my ignition while going into a gas station to pay for fuel. Since then this happens every time I turn off my vehicle and put it into the park position. Usually I have to wait around ten minutes to be able to remove the keys. Both of these issues cause a great deal of anxiety on the freeway or having to leave the key in the ignition.

Whilst driving down Highway 101 near Sequim WA, I was on cruise control doing 55 MPH going up a steep hill which I have done numerous times before without issue. When all of a sudden the car suddenly slowed down, for me to hear honking from a Semi behind me who had to suddenly swerve to go around us to stop him from rear ending me (luckily that part of the road on the hill had a second lane for the truck to use, if not then me and my son would probably be seriously injured or dead.) I looked at the dashboard to find the engine warning light on, and the cruise control flashing, but the car was still running and drove fine with the accelerator pressed. Later on I found out this error code was P0024. When that issue happened, not only had the engine warning light illuminated, it caused not only the cruise control to disengage (without my input) but also for the vehicle stability control to stop working. Once again though the engine was still running file and in my opinion it disabling the cruise and stability control gravely endangered the occupants when it had no reason to disable them. Since then I have had other similar error codes such as P000D which have cause the same thing, but they happened on level ground so the car did not slow down so suddenly. I believe the issue is low or used engine oil, as when I got an oil change (within service life) the issues seems to have gone away; this has happened many times before. These PZEV vehicles not only in my opinion break EPA laws on emissions as they make the car burn through many quarts of oil in the service life, so how Subaru can claim PZEV when exchanging high RPS and a boat load of oil for some if any PZEV's I do not know. My car has two recalls, I have been urgently trying to get these fixed, but my two local dealerships (both 50 miles away) refuse to do the recalls as I filed a lemon complaint, and BBB complaint as one refused to honor a price match for thousands to me. I am a disabled Veteran and need car.

The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The contact was informed that the part was on backorder. The failure mileage was approximately 89,000.

IRA SUBARU (97 ANDOVER ST, DANVERS, MA 01923, (978) 739-8850) WAS CONTACTED AND CONFIRMED THAT THE PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE FOR THE RECALL REMEDY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND WAS NOT ABLE TO CONFIRM WHEN THE PARTS WERE TO BECOME AVAILABLE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.

MY 2013 SUBARU XV CROSSTREK WAS PURCHASED BRAND NEW IN SEPTEMBER 2013. WITHIN 65K MILES I HAD TO REPLACE THE CV JOINT ON BOTH FRONT WHEELS (ISSUE WAS INDICATED BY A CLICKING SOUND FROM THE WHEEL WHEN TURNING RIGHT OR LEFT). AGAIN, AT AROUND 120K MILES I HAD TO REPLACE THEM BOTH, AND NOW, A THIRD TIME AT 182K MILES. AFTER DOING MUCH RESEARCH THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE ON THE XV CROSSTREK THAT IS NOT RELATED TO DRIVING CONDITIONS, ROAD CONDITIONS, OR DUE TO PHYSICAL DAMAGE TO THE PART OR VEHICLE. EACH OF THE TIMES THE CV JOINT WAS REPLACED THE BOOT WAS INTACT, WHICH INDICATES THAT IT IS A FAULTY PART OR ASSEMBLY RATHER THAN DAMAGE OCCURRING TO THE WHEEL. EACH OF THESE REPAIRS COSTS APPROXIMATELY $500 AT THE DEALERSHIP (PER WHEEL) AND IS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. THE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS REGARDING THIS SHOULD REQUIRE SUBARU OF AMERICA TO VOLUNTARILY RECALL OR REPAIR THIS PART FREE OF CHARGE. ADDITIONALLY, IF THIS PART FAILS WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION, SEVERE TRANSMISSION DAMAGE WILL RESULT AND AN ACCIDENT IS LIKELY. MY EXPERIENCE WITH MY FIRST SUBARU HAS BEEN NOTHING BUT EXPENSIVE, AND BURDENSOME REPAIRS TO A CAR WHICH IS SUPPOSED TO HAVE THE "LOWEST COST OF OWNERSHIP" AS THEY ADVERTISE TO CONSUMERS.

WHEN I START MY CAR OR RANDOMLY WHILE I AM DRIVING THE WARNING LIGHTS FOR MY AUTOMATIC BRAKING SYSTEM, TRACTION CONTROL, AND HILL ASSIST TURN ON. WHEN THIS HAPPENS, MY GEAR SHIFTER LOCKS UP AND WHEN I PRESS THE BRAKES THE REAR LIGHTS DON'T ILLUMINATE WHILE THESE WARNING LIGHTS ARE ACTIVE. I HAVE AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. THE WARNING LIGHTS ACTIVATE RANDOMLY, WHETHER I'M STATIONARY OR IN MOTIONS, REGARDLESS OF SETTING.

WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY THE CHECK ENGINE AND TRACTION CONTROL LIGHTS CAME ON. I HAVE A DIAGNOSTIC CODE READER WHICH SENT THE DETAILS TO MY PHONE DTC P1449 EVAP SYSTEM CLOG DETECTED (AIR FILTER). I CALLED MY MECHANIC WHO SAID IT WOULD BE SAFE TO DRIVE HOME...WHILE DRIVING HOME IN THE RAIN I LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND WENT OFF THE ROAD. LUCKILY NO ONE WAS HURT. WHEN I GOT HOME, MY MECHANIC SAID IT WAS A FAULTY PURGE VALVE WHICH WOULD NORMALLY BE A SIMPLE FIX BUT THE ISSUE WAS WELL KNOWN WITH THE VEHICLE AND WAS NOW A SUPERSEDED PART. THE COST WOULD QUADRUPLE BECAUSE THE CHECK ASSEMBLY WAS COMPLETELY REDESIGNED AND SEVERAL PARTS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. IF THIS WAS SUCH A KNOWN ISSUE, WHICH REQUIRED A REDESIGN OF THE SYSTEM, WHY ISNT IT ON RECALL!!! ESPECIALLY, IF THE COMPUTER TAKES AWAY THE VEHICLE'S SAFETY FEATURES LIKE TRACTION CONTROL. COME ON SUBARU. I EXPECT BETTER QUALITY AND SERVICE! NHTSA PLEASE ESCALATE THESE MATTERS.

THE HORN DOES NOT FUNCTION WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL IS ALIGNED STRAIGHT WITH THE WHEELS AND THE VEHICLE IS STATIONARY OR MOVING HOWEVER WHEN YOU TURN THE STEERING WHEEL TO THE LEFT THE HORN WILL FUNCTION. "SUBARU HAS ALREADY ISSUED A RECALL IN AUSTRALIA FOR PROBLEMS RELATED TO MANUFACTURING DEFECT IN THE STEERING COLUMN THAT COULD LEAD TO A SHORT CIRCUIT, WHICH WOULD DISABLE CONTROL OF THE WIPERS, HEADLIGHTS, HORN, DRIVER'S AIRBAG AND FEATURES ACTUATED THROUGH THE MULTI-FUNCTION STEERING WHEEL, SUCH AS CRUISE CONTROL, AUDIO SYSTEM AND MOBILE PHONE CONNECTIVITY". MODELS AFFECTED IN THIS RECALL INCLUDED IMPREZA AND CROSSTREK XV YEARS 2012-2014, AND FORESTER MODELS BUILT IN 2013 AND 2014.
