AFTER A LONG PERIOD OF RAIN, WATER POOLED ON REAR DRIVER AND PASSENGER FLOOR. WINDOWS WOULD NOT FUNCTION, DOOR LOCKS WOULD NOT FUNCTION, TURN SIGNALS DIDN'T WORK. INSTRUMENT PANEL FLASHED WARNINGS OF ENGINE PROBLEMS, BRAKE FAILURE, AIRBAG PROBLEMS. OFTEN LOST ENTIRE PANEL WHILE VEHICLE WAS BEING DRIVEN ON HIGHWAY, MEASUREMENTS GOING DEAD. WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AT APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH I NOTICED MY DIM ( DRIVER INFORMATION MODULE) HAD COMPLETELY STOPPED WORKING. I WAS UNABLE TO READ MY SPEEDOMETER, RPM, FUEL LEVEL, AND ENGINE TEMPERATURE WHILE THE CAR WAS STILL RUNNING . AFTER RESEARCHING THIS ONLINE, IT APPEARS THAT THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM.

PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT, MY CAR IDLED DOWN AND PRESSING THE GAS DID NOT PREVENT IT FROM COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND ALL OF THE LIGHTS CAME ON TO INCLUDE, WARNING LIGHTS, AIRBAG, STABILITY CONTROL, AND OTHERS INCLUDING ABS. FORTUNATELY WE HAD JUST EXITED THE HIGHWAY TO PURCHASE FUEL AND WAS IN NO IMMEDIATE DANGER. BECAUSE OF THE VEHICLES AGE IT WAS RECOMMENDED WE HAVE THE STARTER, OXYGEN SENSOR, SPARK PLUGS, 1 COIL PACK, AND BATTERY REPLACED; AND THE FUSES, FUEL PUMP, FUEL FILTER, ALTERNATOR AND WIRING EXAMINED, BUT THEY DID NOT NEED TO BE REPLACED. AFTER READING OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS OF THIS VEHICLE, I AM SERIOUSLY WONDERING IF THIS CAR IS SAFE. I DON'T WANT TO SPEND MORE MONEY AND STILL HAVE TO BE CONCERNED ABOUT MY FAMILY AND I BEING INVOLVED IN A COLLISION BECAUSE THE REPLACEMENT OF PARTS WON'T FIX AN UNDERLYING PROBLEM THAT MAY BE MUCH MORE SERIOUS.

WE HAD BEEN EXPERIENCING RAIN SHOWERS ON THE WAY TO WORK THE VOLVO TWICE HAD ALL THE LIGHTS ON THE DASH BOARD LIGHT UP BUT THE CAR DID NOT STALL. I WAS AFRAID THE AIR BAG MIGHT DEPLOY. AS SOON AS I GOT HOME I HAD MY HUSBAND CHECK TO SEE IF HE COULD LOCATE THE PROBLEM. HE FOUND WAS THAT THE CARPET WAS SOAKED ON THE DRIVERS SIDE .AND THE. WIRING RUNNING UNDER THE CARPET WAS ALSO WET. WE HAVE NOT MOVED THE CAR AND ARE TRYING TO DRY EVERYTHING. IT HAS ALSO CONTINUED TO RAIN OFF AND ON. MY HUSBAND HAS FOUND SOME INFORMATION ON THE INTERNET WHICH COULD BE RELATED TO THIS PROBLEM AND WILL TRY TO SEE IF THIS MIGHT BE THE SOLUTION TO OUR PROBLEM. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 VOLVO S40. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE MORE THAN 20 MPH AND SEVERAL WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE COMPUTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000.

Check engine light came on and stays in. Vehicle always sputters to start, acceleration is sometimes slow to respond, has stalled out on a rare occasion usual on hills. I’m afraid someday I might be involved in a crash because of a lack of acceleration.

Check engine light came on and has stayed on. Stalled out in traffic, turned the car off and it restarted and I continued. Happens two more times. Initial start up has a delay in the engine turning over. Gas pedal is slow to respond to acceleration. Verified at a garage with code reader. Suspect faulty wiring (corrosion) to fuel pump needing PEM replacement. No warning prior to first incident around 02/2022. I have had the check engine light reset on multiple occasions and each time the light comes back on within 2 days. Safety has been a concern at multiple times. Entered VIN number with Volvo, a Volvo dealer, and nhtsa.gov with no help in resolving issue.

IN SOME OCCASIONS CAR WON'T START AND WHILE DRIVING THE CAR IT WOULD SHUT OFF UNEXPECTEDLY CAUSING A DANGEROUS SITUATION. I BELIEVE IT'S THE PUMP ELECTRONIC MODULE WHICH IS ALREADY RECALLED IN SOME CARS. ACCORDING TO YOUR RECALL I HAVE THE EXACT SAME SYMPTOMS BUT MY VIN NUMBER IS NOT PART OF THE RECALL.

CAR WAS PARKED IN THE DRIVEWAY AT MY HOUSE OVERNIGHT. WHEN I OPENED THE DRIVER'S DOOR TODAY MID-DAY, I SAW GLASS ALL OVER THE FRONT SEATS. THE SUNROOF HAD EXPLODED UPWARD. THE EDGES OF THE GLASS STILL REMAINING IN THE SUNROOF ARE CLEARLY PUSHED UP AND OUTWARD, NOT DOWNWARD INTO THE CAR AS IT WOULD BE IF SOMETHING HAD FALLEN THROUGH THE SUNROOF FROM THE OUTSIDE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, BUT THEY COULD NOT DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AT THE COST OF $1,200. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THEY HAVE NO CURRENT ISSUES ON FILE REGARDING THE SUN ROOF FAILURE; THEREFORE, NO COMPENSATION WOULD BE PROVIDED. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 42,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 45,000.

EGR OR AKA. OIL TRAP HOUSING, TUBING IS BROKEN AND SUCKING IN AIR. IMPROPER VENTILATION IS TRIPPING OFF EMISSION CODE ON DASH. BRITTLE BLACK PLASTIC HOUSING, DEFECTIVE IN NATURE AND BY DESIGN. POTENTIAL OTHER ISSUES IS THE UNWANTED PRESSURE BUILD UP IN ENGINE WHICH CAN CAUSE PREMATURE FAILURE OF OIL CAM SEALS WHICH I ALSO EXPERIENCED.

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

IVE HAD CAR 3 YRS AND WITHIN LAST FEW MONTHE NOTICE LARGE WATER PUDDLES ON REAR FLOORS WINDOWS WERE ALL CLOSED TOOK IT TO MY MECHANIC AND STATES CHANNELS FOR SUNROOF WERE FLAWED AS I LATER FOUND OUT UNDER COMPUTER CAR COMPLAINTS VOLVO HAD CLASS ACTION ON THIS FEW YRS BACK BUT I DID NOT OWN CAR THEN THERE WERE MANY COMPLAINTS FROM CAR OWNERS RE THIS ISSUE AND VOLVO WILL DO NOTHING IM HAVING NEW CHANNELS PUT IN TO DRAIN WATER BUT ITS ONLY TEMP AS ITS A FLAW THAT WILL CONTINUE TO HAPPEN MY ELECTRIS IS STARTING TO SHORT OUT CAR SMELLS MOLDY/MUSTY AND WILL BE WORTH VERY LITTLE I NEED SOME FEEDBACK ON THIS ISSUE AS CAR IS BECOMING TOTALLY WORTHLESS

A DESIGN FLAW CAUSED FLOODING WITHIN THE CABIN OF THIS VEHICLE. THE SUNROOF DRAINAGE SYSTEM IS FAULTY AND OVER TIME LEAKS WATER INTO THE FLOOR PAN OF THE CAR, SOMETIMES ENOUGH WHERE FLOODING OCCURS. MY CAR FLOODED A FEW MONTHS BACK SO BADLY UP TO 10 GALLONS OF WATER WAS VACUUMED OUT. THE FLOODING CAUSED DAMAGE TO THE ELECTRICAL HARNESS/CONNECTIONS UNDER THE DRIVER'S/PASSENGER'S SEAT. CURRENTLY THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON, THE PASSENGER SEAT AIR BAG IS DEACTIVATED AND IT IS UNSAFE TO SIT IN THE PASSENGER SEAT AS THE AIR BAG COULD MALFUNCTION AT ANY TIME, ALL DUE TO THIS FLOODING AND THE ROOT CAUSE BEING THE FAULTY DRAINAGE SYSTEM THAT RUNS FROM THE SUNROOF THROUGH THE DASH OUT OF THE BOTTOM OF THE CAR. THERE IS A CLASS ACTION LAW SUIT, NO. 2:10-CV-04407-DMC-MF, AGAINST VOLVO FOR THIS SPECIFIC ISSUE, I BELIEVE THIS ISSUE IS LEADING TO MORE AND MORE PROBLEMS OVER TIME, MY VEHICLE CURRENTLY WON'T START AND THERE ARE ONLY $75K MILES ON IT, I BELIEVE WATER DAMAGE IS THE ROOT CAUSE FOR ALL ISSUES WITH THE VEHICLE AT THIS TIME, THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ON ALL VEHICLES EFFECTED OR COMPENSATION TO KEEP DRIVERS SAFE IN THIS SPECIFIC VEHICLE. *TR

MY 1 1/2 YEARS OLD VOLVO S40 DID THIS TWICE, SHORTLY AFTER STARTING IT AND MOVING IT FOR A COUPLE OF MILES. IT DISPLAYED THE MESSAGE "BRAKE FAILURE STOP CAR SAFELY", "ANTI-SKID SYSTEM FAILURE", "REDUCED ENGINE PERFORMANCE". THE CAR COULD NOT GO MORE THAN 15 MPH. AFTER PARKING IT, I COULD NOT RESTART THE ENGINE AND THE MESSAGES KEPT REPEATING IN RANDOM ORDER. THE FIRST TIME THAT I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER THEY SAID THAT THEY CHANGED THE COMPUTER MESSAGE MODULE (THE MECHANIC CARRIED A BOX WITH MANY PLUGS IN IT, JUST TO SHOW ME WHAT IT LOOKED LIKE). I EXPERIENCED A TIRE SIDEWALL BLOWOUT ON A MICHELIN ENERGY MXV4 PLUS V RATED TIRE SIZE 205 55 16 WITH 9000 MILES AT APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH. THIS CAUSED CAR TO BECOME EXTREMELY HARD TO CONTROL SWERVING ACROSS SEVERAL LANES OF TRAFFIC, AND THEN SPINNING OFF THE HIGHWAY, ENDING UP NEXT TO A CANAL FACING TRAFFIC. I WAS EXTREMELY FORTUNATE NOT TO HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE OR END UP IN THE CANAL. THE BLOWOUT DAMAGED THE FACTORY RIMS. I HAVE NOT YET DETERMINED IF THERE WAS ADDITIONAL DAMAGE TO THE UNDER CARRIAGE TIRE DEALER DETERMINED BLOWOUT WAS A RESULT OF MANUFACTURING DEFECT AND REPLACED TIRE PRO-RATA , BUT MICHELIN REFUSED TO PROCESS CLAIM FOR DAMAGES TO VEHICLE OR DO ANYTHING ELSE CONCERNING THE REMAINING TIRES THAT THE 2006 VOLVO S40 CAME EQUIPPED WITH AND MAY HAVE THE SAME DEFECT. *AK
