THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE FUEL PRESSURE SENSOR WAS FAILING AND CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO STALL. THE CONTACT SPOKE WITH THE MANUFACTURER IN REGARDS TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 07V226000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING), BUT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 97,000.

THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTICS. THE MECHANIC STATED TO THE CONTACT THAT THE FUEL PRESSURE SENSOR WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 07V226000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING) BUT WAS ADVISED BY THE MANUFACTURER THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 97,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE FAILURE OCCURRED BECAUSE THE FUEL PRESSURE SENSOR WAS SET TO HIGH. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND THEY STATED THAT THE VIN FAILED TO QUALIFY FOR THE RECALL UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 07V226000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO RESTART AFTER THE FAILURE AND WAS TAKEN TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MECHANIC ADVISED THAT THE FUEL PRESSURE SENSOR WAS SENDING FAULTY SIGNALS TO THE ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND THEY ADVISED THAT THE VIN DID NOT QUALIFY FOR RECALL UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 07V226000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 100,500. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 VOLVO V70. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE CHECK ENGINE LAMP ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL SENSOR WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE, BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 07V226000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 80,000.

I WAS AT OUR AUTOMOTIVE SHOP AND HAD TO GIVE A CUSTOMER A RIDE TO WORK. I HAD THE SEAT WARMERS ON BECAUSE IT WAS COLD OUTSIDE. ABOUT A MINUTE INTO THE DRIVE, I FEEL A BURNING SENSATION ON MY LEFT OUTER THIGH. I THOUGHT NOTHING OF IT. THE BURNING SENSATION GOT WORSE, I STATED, "SOMETHING'S BURNING ME!" THE CUSTOMER STATES SHE SMELLS SOMETHING BURNING, LIKE WIRES. I PULL OVER, HOP OUT OF THE CAR TO NOTICE A BURN HOLE IN MY SEAT. LUCKILY, I DID NOT GET SEVERELY BURNT, HOWEVER, MY THIGH WAS SORE FOR ABOUT 4 HOURS. AFTER THIS HAPPENED, I WENT ONLINE TO SEE IF THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE SEAT. THERE WAS NOT. AFTER GOOGLING THIS SITUATION, I FOUND THAT MY 04 VOLVO V70 WASN'T THE ONLY VEHICLE THAT HAS HAD THIS ISSUE. MANY, MANY PEOPLE WITH THE SAME YEAR, MAKE, AND MODEL HAVE HAD THIS SAME ISSUE.

WHILE DRIVING WITH MY 2 YEAR OLD...I SMELLED WHAT I THOUGHT WAS MY ENGINE OVERHEATING, PULLED OVER TO TAKE A LOOK AND AS OPENED MY DRIVERS SIDE DOOR SMOKE WAS BILLOWING OUT OF MY SEAT, MELTING A HOLE THROUGH TO THE LEFT SIDE OF SEAT BOTTOM, NEAR BACKREST AND SEAT ADJUSTMENT BUTTONS. LUCKILY, AFTER TURNING THE SEAT HEATER OFF THE ELECTRICAL MALFUNCTION COOLED OFF. I WENT TO LOCAL VOLVE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID "YOUR CAR IS TOO OLD TO HAVE A VALID RECALL STATUS", NOR DID THEY OFFER TO ASSIST IN ANY WAY.

THE DRIVER SIDE SEAT WARMER CAUGHT FIRE. IT BURNED A HOLE THROUGH THE SIDE OF THE SEAT COVER AND ALSO CAUSED A MILD BURN TO MY LEG. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 VOLVO V70. THE CONTACT BEGAN TO SMELL A FAINT BURNING ODOR FROM THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT INSPECTED AND NOTICED THAT THE DRIVER SEAT WAS SMOKING. THE CONTACT TURNED THE SEAT HEATER OFF AND EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE SHE WAS TOLD THAT THE SEAT HEATER WAS NOT BURNT AND THAT SOMETHING UNDER THE SEAT MUST HAVE CAUSED THE FIRE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 105,000.

AFTER INVESTIGATION, I DISCOVERED THAT USED VEHICLE JUST PURCHASED (2004 VOLVO V70) HAD A BAD REM MODULE; RENDERING FUEL GAUGE, REAR DOOR LOCKS, FUEL DOOR LATCH, AND HATCHBACK LOCK INOPERATIVE. THE REAR HATCHBACK HAS NO MANUAL METHOD TO LOCK IT; MAKING VEHICLE UNSECURABLE. INVESTIGATION ONLINE INDICATES THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE. DEALER WANTS AROUND $200 TO UPDATE SOFTWARE TO FIX PROBLEMS. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE, SINCE AT LEAST TWO CRITICAL ITEMS (HATCHBACK AND FUEL DOOR LATCHES) DEPEND ON FUNCTIONING REM TO SECURE THEM. I BELIEVE THESE ITEMS SHOULD BE COVERED BY THE MANUFACTURER REGARDLESS OF AGE.

PULLED INTO A PARKING SPOT ON THE STREET, PUT THE CAR IN PARK, BUT WAS UNABLE TO TURN THE KEY TO TURN THE CAR OFF. IT TOOK ME ALMOST 20 MINUTES OF JIGGLING THE KEY AROUND AND SPRAYING WD40 INTO THE IGNITION CYLINDER BEFORE BEING ABLE TO VERY SLOWLY GET THE KEY TO TURN ENOUGH TO TURN THE CAR OFF. I AM NOT A WEAK PERSON AND WAS HONESTLY AFRAID THAT THE AMOUNT OF PRESSURE I WAS APPLYING WAS GOING TO CAUSE THE KEY TO BREAK OFF IN THE IGNITION. I IMMEDIATELY TOOK THE CAR TO THE NEAREST VOLVO DEALER (CHERRY HILL, NJ) AND SINCE THIS HAPPENED ON A SUNDAY MORNING, I HAD TO LEAVE THE KEYS WITH AN EXPLANATION OF THE PROBLEM ON A DROPBOX FORM. WHEN I CALLED THE SERVICE DEPT TODAY, THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY WOULD HAVE TO CUSTOM ORDER A REPLACEMENT PART FROM SWEDEN AND THAT IT COULD BE A WEEK BEFORE MY CAR IS REPAIRED. THE SERVICE PERSON SAID THAT THIS SOMETIMES HAPPENS WHEN PEOPLE ATTACH A LARGE AMOUNT OF KEYS TO THEIR CAR KEY AND IT CAUSES STRESS ON THE IGNITION CYLINDER. I HAVE NEVER, EVER DONE THAT. I ALWAYS KEEP MY CAR AND HOUSE KEYS SEPARATE FOR SAFETY PURPOSES, SO THERE IS NO REASON THIS SHOULD HAVE HAPPENED. AFTER LOOKING FOR MORE INFO ON THE INTERNET, IT APPEARS AS THOUGH THIS HAPPENS ON A FAIRLY REGULAR BASIS WITH OTHER OWNERS. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF THIS CAR AND AM RELIGIOUS ABOUT KEEPING IT IN GOOD RUNNING ORDER WITH ROUTINE, SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE. FAILURE TO BE ABLE TO SHUT A CAR OFF WITHOUT ANY PRIOR WARNING SHOULD CERTAINLY BE CONSIDERED A SAFETY ISSUE. THANKS. *TR

SOMETIMES, WHEN THE CAR HAS BEEN TRAVELING FOR A LONG TIME (AT LEAST THREE HOURS), THE ENTIRE CAR WILL LURCH, THE RPMS WILL REV, THE INTERIOR LIGHTS WILL COME ON, AND I WILL GET A "LEFT REAR DOOR OPEN" ERROR MESSAGE. A COUPLE OF TIMES THIS WAS FOLLOWED BY A COMPLETE POWER-DOWN OF THE DASHBOARD (LIGHTS OUT, ALL INSTRUMENTS OFF) AND A WARNING THAT MY BRAKES HAD FAILED. WHEN THE VEHICLE IS DRIVING AT ANY SPEED AND THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL IS PUSHED DOWN, THERE IS OFTEN A LOSS OF POWER AND THE VEHICLE WILL NOT MOVE FORWARD FOR UP TO 5 TO 10 SECONDS. THERE IS A RECALL ON THIS YEAR AND MODEL ALREADY BUT MY SPECIFIC VEHICLE WITH MY VIN IS NOT COVERED. HOWEVER OUR VEHICLE IS DOING THE EXACT SAME THING AS THE VEHICLES THAT HAVE BEEN RECALLED. ON A RECENT RAINY AFTERNOON I STALLED OUT IN THE MIDDLE OF A VERY BUSY INTERSECTION IN MY 2004 V70, SUBJECTING MYSELF AND MY FAMILY TO A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. I WAS ABLE TO RESTART MY CAR, AND AFTER SEVERAL MORE STALL OUTS AND RESTARTS I WAS ABLE TO LIMP TO A NEARBY PARKING LOT WHERE I CALLED MY REPAIR SHOP TO HAVE MY CAR TOWED IN FOR REPAIR. MY MECHANIC DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS A FAULTY FUEL PRESSURE SENSOR, ORDERED THE PART FROM THE LOCAL VOLVO DEALER AND REPAIRED MY CAR; THE TOTAL BILL, INCLUDING TOWING WAS $615. LATER THAT WEEK, MY HUSBAND LOOKED UP VEHICLE RECALLS ON THE NHTSA WEBSITE AND FOUND RECALL #R181 WHICH EXACTLY DESCRIBED MY SITUATION. DEALER AND VOLVO CARS OF NORTH AMERICA, LLC INDICATE VEHICLE (VIN: [XXX]) IS NOT COVERED BY RECALL; VOLVO WILL NOT PAY FOR REPAIR. VEHICLE REPAIRED ON JANUARY 9, 2011 AT OWNER EXPENSE BY IMPLEMENTING THE RECALL ACTION (REPLACE FUEL PRESSURE SENSOR). CHECK ENGINE HAS REMAINED OUT AND THERE ARE NO FURTHER PROBLEMS WITH SURGE OR STALL. WHILE THE CHASSIS NUMBER (409846) APPEARS TO BE OUT OF THE RECALL RANGE FROM THE INFORMATION AVAILABLE TO THE OWNER, THERE MAY BE SUBSTANTIAL RISK TO OTHER OWNERS WITH THESE VEHICLES. ONE OF THE ENGINE FAILURES (THE LAST ONE) FOR THIS OWNERS' VEHICLE OCCURRED AT A BUSY, HIGH SPEED, AND NOTORIOUS INTERSECTION. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN PARKED UNTIL A REPAIR COULD BE EFFECTED. CAR WAS DAMAGED GOING OVER A SPEED BUMP (ON PUBLIC RD) AT ABOUT 5 MPH. THERE IS A RECALL IN EUROPE TO FIX THIS PROBLEM (BY REMOVING A BRACKET THAT PRODUCED BELOW THE CARD AND CAN BE FORCED UPWARDS DAMAGING THE EXHAUST AND DRIVESHAFT. THIS IS CAUSED BY A BRACKET (P/N 30647428) (SEE ATTACHMENT) WHICH IS MOUNTED UNDER THE VEHICLE. THE BRACKET IS ONLY USED FOR PRODUCTION PURPOSE TO KEEP THE EXHAUST SYSTEM IN PLACE AND SERVES NO OTHER FUNCTION. BECAUSE OF THE LOWER RIDE HEIGHT OF THE R VEHICLES THE BRACKET CAN TOUCH THE GROUND IN EXTREME SITUATIONS. WHEN THE BRACKET TOUCHES THE GROUND IT CAN BEND (SEE ATTACHMENT IMAGE) AND SUBSEQUENTLY DAMAGE THE EXHAUST SYSTEM AND THE DRIVE SHAFT (CARDAN). PRODUCT CHANGES, INVESTIGATING IF PRODUCT CAN BE CHANGED IN PRODUCTION. PART RETURN, NO TECHNICAL REPORT, NO SERVICE, VOLVO ADVISES TO REMOVE THE BRACKET WHEN PRESENT ON R VEHICLES DURING SERVICE. The front passenger seat belt locks up. When pulled out it will not go back in causing the passenger not to be able to wear a seat belt. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 VOLVO V70. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REAR PASSENGER SEAT BELT BUCKLE FAILED TO UNLATCH. THE SEAT BELT HAD TO BE CUT IN ORDER TO RELEASE THE PASSENGER AFTER THREE HOURS. BOTH OF THEM HAVE EXHIBITED THE FOLLOWING- WHEN FILLING AT CERTAIN GAS STATIONS (SUNOCO MOST RECENTLY) THE GAS PUMP WILL NOT SHUT OFF AUTOMATICALLY BEFORE FUEL COMES POURING OUT OF THE FILLER. I BELIEVE IT IS A FUEL FILLER PROBLEM IN THE CAR, NOT IN THE PUMP, BECAUSE I DO NOT HAVE THIS PROBLEM WITH ANY OF OUR OTHER CARS. HOWEVER THE RECALL ONLY APPLIES TO VEHICLES SOLD IN AL, AZ, AR, CA, FL, GA, HI, KY, LA, MS, NV, NM, NC, OK, SC, TN, TX, UT, VA AND THE US TERRITORIES. I TOOK THE CAR BACK TO SMYTHE VOLVO OF SAN JOSE WHERE THE PURCHASE WAS MADE. THE SALES MANAGER, MICHAEL, REFUSED TO ADDRESS THE PROBLEM OR EVEN TAKE A LOOK AT MY CAR, AND INITIATED A CHALLENGE FOR ME TO SUE VOLVO. THE SIDE WALL OF THIS PIRELLI P6 TIRE DEVELOPS BUBBLES AND CRACKS EASILY IF IT RUNS INTO ANY ROAD IRREGULARITY. I DID A SEARCH ON OTHER TIRES OF SIMILAR CONFIGURATION AND FOUND NO SUCH PROBLEM. PIRELLI DESIGNED AND MANUFACTURED THE TIRE. VOLVO ENGINEERS AND MANAGEMENT CHOOSE THE TIRE TO PUT ON ITS V70 WAGON AS AN OEM. I have recevievide from Volvo called the number and said they cannot say it was free.I called the number 1 800 458 1552 said could promise I had to talk to the manager at the dealer. I asked them if found other problems with steering that I would have to pay if they tear into steering comlun. You guys need to fix this now. I want to make sure Im cover here . EWhat am suppose to do if they break my steering down and ask me to pay for other problmems with the car it doesnot state that on the recall letter. What kind of airbag do they put in to the car I ant to its preminum airbags that are put in high in vehicles here. I want to know if I get protected documentation from this recall. Also do I get the old airbag back so i can seek legal consel as well. It just says free it should state that im protected from labor and parts costs as well.

WHEN WE FIRST PURCHASED THE CAR WE DROVE IT FOR ABOUT A WEEK BEFORE IT STARTED SURGING FORWARD AND STALLING A LOT. MY FIANC AND I WOULD HAVE TO PULL OVER, PARK THE CAR, HAVE TO TURN THE KEY THREE TIMES BEFORE STARTING. WOULD HAVE TO REPEAT PROCESS EVERY 5 MINUTES. SO WE TOOK IT TO PARAMOUNT VOLVO OF HICKORY, ENDED UP TAKING IT THERE FOR SERVICE. DROPPED IT OFF WITH A MAX FULL TANK OF GAS AS WELL, ALONG WITH PERSONAL ITEMS WE LEFT IN THE CAR. IT TAKES THEN ABOUT 4 OR 5 DAYS BEFORE CALLING US BACK WITH DIAGNOSTICS, SO WE END UP PAYING ALMOST 1,600$ TO GET THE TIMING CHAIN REPLACED, NEW HOSES PUT ON, FUEL PUMP REPLACEMENT, AND THE FUEL INJECTORS. WE PICK IT UP, AND OUR GAS IS ALMOST ON EMPTY....AND A FEW ITEMS WERE MISSING OUT OF OUR VEHICLE AS WELL. I KNOW THEY HAVE TO TEST DRIVE IT AFTER SERVICING THE VEHICLE, IT SEEMED LIKE THEY TOOK IT ON A JOY RIDE ALL OVER HICKORY. BUT WE DECIDED NOT TO MENTION THAT, AND TOOK IT AS A COMPLIMENT OF THEM "LIKING" THE CAR. AT LEAST WE HAD IT FIXED WE THOUGHT, THEN DROVE 45 MINUTES UP THE MOUNTAIN HOME. AGAIN IT DRIVE FINE AFTER PICKING IT BACK UP 2ND TIME THEN STARTED ACTING UP AGAIN, BROUGHT IT BACK AND THEY FIXED THE TIMING ON IT. PICKED IT UP, WEEK OR TWO LATER WE SET UP A NEW APPOINTMENT BECAUSE THE CAR IS SURGING, RPMS WON'T GO OVER 2000, KICKS OUT AND IN GEAR, RPM GAUGE FLUCTUATES WHEN STOPPED. MY 4 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER AND I WERE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY YESTERDAY AND IT STARTED SURGING, THE STEERING SEEMED ALOT LOOSER, THEN IT STARTED SHAKING AROUND A CURVE PRETTY BAD, GOT SCARED AND BRAKED, STEERING WOULDN'T TURN , KEPT GOING STRAIGHT, RAN INTO THE GRASS ,THANK GOD. I WAS DRIVING AT ABOUT 35 MPH. WHEN I SLOWED DOWN TO MAKE A 90 DEGREE RIGHT TURN, WITHOUT WARNING THE ENGINE AND POWER STEERING WENT OFF AS I WAS TURNING. I HAD TO MANUALLY STEER THE CAR AND LUCKILY DID NOT CRASH BECAUSE THERE WAS NO CAR IN THE OPPOSITE LANE. I PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, RESTARTED THE CAR, AND RECEIVED NO ERROR MESSAGE. THIS COMPLAINT PERTAINS TO THE DRIVERS SIDE SEAT-HEATER. WHEN ACTIVATED, ON THE LOWEST OF 2 SETTINGS, THE OCCUPANT OF THE DRIVERS-SIDE FRONT SEAT EXPERIENCES A BURNING-PAIN SENSATION IN THE RIGHT-REAR AREA OF THE THIGH, AFTER 60-90 SECONDS OF THE SEAT HEATER BEING ACTIVATED VIA DASH BUTTON. THE OWNER OF THE CAR WORRIES THAT: 1.) ACCIDENTAL ACTIVATION OF THE DRIVERS-SIDE SEAT HEATER, WITH NO OCCUPANT IN THAT SEAT, COULD RESULT IN THERMAL DAMAGE TO THE LEATHER AND PADDING OF THE SEAT, AS WELL AS COMBUSTION LEADING TO THE DESTRUCTION OF THE CAR. 2.) ACCIDENTAL ACTIVATION OF THE SEAT-HEATER WITH AN OCCUPANT IN THE DRIVERS-SIDE FRONT SEAT COULD RESULT IN, SUDDEN AND EXTREME, DISCOMFORT TO THE VEHICLE OPERATOR, RESULTING IN AN UNCONTROLLABLE PHYSICAL REACTION TO PAIN, WHICH COULD CAUSE THE AUTOMOBILE TO LEAVE THE ROAD, RESULTING IN AN ACCIDENT. 3.) OUR 2004 VOLVO V70 ENGINE CUT OFF WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY. AT THE TIME, WE WERE TRAVELING AT APPROXIMATELY 45 MILES PER HOUR. LUCKILY THERE WAS A SIDE ROAD NEARBY SO WE WERE ABLE TO COAST, STOP, AND RESTART THE CAR SAFELY. SINCE THAT DAY, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAS BEEN COMING ON AND THEN GOING OFF AND THE ENGINE HAS SHUT DOWN WHILE DRIVING ON SEVERAL OTHER OCCASSIONS. WE TOOK THE CAR TO VOLVO AND THEY CLAIMED THERE WERE NOT ANY RECALLS ON OUR 2004 VOLVO V70 AND PERFORMED A $65 DIAGONSTIC SERVICE AND DETERMINED THAT OUR FUEL PRESSURE SENSOR HAD FAILED AND NEED TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF OVER $400. THE DEALERSHIP CALLED VOLVO'S CUSTOMER SUPPORT TEAM AND THEY SAID OUR CAR WAS OUTSIDE THE WARRANTY PERIOD AND HAD NO RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE. ON 2/28/05 I RETURNED THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP AGAIN FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. THIS TIME THEY REPLACED THE MASTER CYLINDER AND BOOSTER. THEN, THE END OF APRIL I WAS GETTING ON THE HIGHWAY GOING ABOUT 50 MPH, AND HAD TO APPLY MY BRAKES, AND THEY FROZE UP AND I GLIDED FOR A FEW SECONDS BEFORE THEY RELEASED AND I WAS ABLE TO PUSH DOWN ON THEM (THIS IS WHAT HAPPENED THE OTHER TIMES.). VOLVO AGAIN REPLACED THE MATER CYLINDER AND BOOSTER (AND THEY TOLD ME THEY REPLACED ANOTHER PART THAT HAD TO DO WITH THE PUMPING MECHANISM (?) "JUST IN CASE." THE CAR MADE IT 4 1/2 MONTHS BEFORE IT HAPPENED AGAIN. I WAS GETTING ONTO A HIGHWAY 9/9/05, GOING ABOUT 60-70 MPH, WHEN THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME APPLIED HIS BRAKES. I APPLIED MINE, AND FOR A SPLIT SECOND THEY FROZE. I ACCELERATED AGAIN ALMOST IMMEDIATELY AND THEN HAD TO SLOW AGAIN. THIS TIME THE BRAKES FROZE FOR ABOUT 3-4 SECONDS BEFORE THEY RELEASED AND I WAS ABLE TO SLOW DOWN. IT IS IN THE SHOP NOW AND VOLVO ASSURES ME THAT THIS HASN'T HAPPENED IN A NEW CAR BEFORE. MY QUESTION IS: CAN THEY RECALL SOMETHING THEY CAN'T EVEN FIX??? *NM

VOLVO V70--- WE REMOVED THE HANDHOLDS FROM ABOVE THE DRIVER AND FRONT SEAT PASSENGER. MY WIFE, ELLEN, SUFFERED A CONCUSSION WHEN HER HEAD STRUCK THE HANDHOLD ABOVE HER AS SHE WAS DRIVING AND THE CAR WAS HIT IN THE FRONT. NO AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. I FOUND MYSELF BUMPING MY HEAD AGAINST THESE HANDHOLDS EVEN WHILE DRIVING. THESE HANDHOLDS OBVIOUSLY INTRUDE INTO THE HEADSPACE OF THE AUTOMOBILE. I AM SURPRISED THAT VOLVO WOULD USE SUCH IRON-HARD HANDHOLDS WITHOUT PADDING OR WITHOUT A COLLAPSING OR FOLDING MECHANISM. *NM

I AM VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THE VERY POOR QUALITY OF ILLUMINATION PROVIDED BY THE HEADLIGHTS, PARTICULARLY THE LOW BEAM, OF MY 2004 VOLVO V70R. IF I DRIVE ON A HIGHWAY WITH ONCOMING TRAFFIC SUCH THAT I CAN NOT USE MY HIGH BEAMS I WILL BE OVERDRIVING MY LOW BEAMS AT ANY SPEED OVER 30 MPH. I HAVE ALREADY BEEN BACK TO THE DEALER IN BELLINGHAM, WA TO HAVE ADJUSTMENT, BUT TO NO HELP. WORST HEADLIGHTS I HAVE EVER HAD ON A CAR. AND THESE ARE HID SPECIAL LIGHTS!!! *NM

PROBLEMS WITH VEHICLE PULLING TO THE RIGHT WHILE DRIVING. *MR THE PROBLEM WAS SO-CALLED CORRECTED, BUT THE FRONT END ALIGNMENT PROBLEM RETURNED. THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN TO THE DEALER 4-5 TIMES TO CORRECT THE STEERING SAFETY ISSUE. ON THE LAST VISIT, THE LEFT FRONT MCPHERSON STRUT SPRING WAS CHANGED. *SC *JB

MY 2004 VOLVO V70 WAGON SPEWED AND SPIT GAS WHEN BEING FILLED WITH GASOLINE. WHEN THE AUTOMATIC SHUT OFF FROM THE GAS PUMP ENGAGED, GAS FROM THE TANK AND THE FILLER LINE GUSHED AND POURED OUT OF THE TANK. THIS HAPPENED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS INCLUDING THE VERY FIRST TIME I FILLED THE VEHICLE WITH GAS. IT ALSO OCCURRED WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO FILL THE GAS TANK SLOWLY SO THAT PRESSURE WOULD NOT EJECT GASOLINE FROM THE TANK. THE CAR WAS BROUGHT TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS PURCHASED (SMITH CO. MOTORS - CHARLESTON, WV) FOR THE PROBLEM TO BE FIXED ON MARCH 31, 2004. AFTER INSPECTING VALVES IN THE GAS TANK AND FUEL FILLER TUBE, THE DEALER CONTACTED ME TO TELL ME NO PROBLEM HAD BEEN FOUND. I ASKED THE DEALER SERVICE MANAGER IF THE TANK HAD BEEN FILLED WITH GAS TO MAKE SURE GASOLINE DID NOT CONTINUE TO GUSH FROM THE TANK. THE DEALER THEN FILLED THE TANK AND CALLED TO ME TO CONFIRM THAT THE PROBLEM HAD NOT BEEN FIXED. THE CAR WAS THEN AT THE DEALER AND OUT OF SERVICE UNTIL APRIL 8, 2004, WHEN A VOLVO REPRESENTATIVE DISCOVERED THAT THE CAR HAD A MANUFACTURING DEFECT. I WAS TOLD THE DEFECT WAS THAT A VALVE HAD NOT BEEN INSTALLED ON THE CAR AT THE FACTORY. ON APRIL 12, 2004 I RETURNED HOME FROM WORK AND PULLED INTO MY DRIVEWAY. I LEFT THE CAR RUNNING IN MY DRIVEWAY. AFTER 1 TO 2 MINUTES INSIDE, I NOTICE A STRONG SMELL OF GASOLINE. THE CAR HAD STOPPED RUNNING AND WAS FREELY SPILLING GALLONS OF GASOLINE INTO MY DRIVEWAY. THE DEALER DISCOVERED A NEW GAS TANK HAD NOT BEEN PROPERLY INSTALLED BY THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN. I AM INTERESTED IN NHTSA INVESTIGATING IF THE REPEATED FAILURES OF MY FUEL SYSTEM ARE RELATED. I AM FURTHER INTERESTED IN NHTSA DETERMINING IF OTHER 2004 VOLVOS WITH SIMILAR FUEL SYSTEM COMPONENTS COULD HAVE ALSO LEFT THE FACTORY WITHOUT A COMPLETELY ASSEMBLED FUEL SYSTEM. I ENCOUNTERED A VERY SERIOUS SAFETY PROBLEM THAT COULD HAVE RESULTED IN A CATASTROPHIC ACCIDENT.*AK
