THE CONTACT WAS ALSO ALERTED TO A MESSAGE DISPLAY WHICH INDICATED A TRANSMISSION FAILURE. ADDITIONALLY, THE VEHICLE WOULD INDEPENDENTLY SHIFT TO NEUTRAL. NIELLO VOLVO CARS SACRAMENTO LOCATED AT 4609 MADISON AVE, SACRAMENTO, CA 95841, (916) 488-2400), WAS CONTACTED BY PHONE. THE CONTACT INQUIRED ABOUT NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 03V434000 (WHEELS). THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED BACK TO THE RESIDENCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 125,000.

THE VOLVO HAS CONSTANT ISSUES WHEN SHIFTING AND GETTING STUCK IN A SPECIFIC GEAR. ALSO IT WILL DECIDE TO DOWN SHIFT OUT OF KNOW WHERE. I CAN BE DOING 55 ON THE HIGHWAY THEN IT SLAMS INTO 3RD AND I LOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE ALMOST MAKING ME CRASH. MECHANICS DO NOT SEE ANYTHING WEONG WITH THE TRANSMISSION IE ITS GOING BAD BUT SOMETHING IS MAKING THE VEHICLE DO THIS. SOFTWARE POSSIBLY TCM NOT WORKING PROPERLY BUT MY MECHANIC ALSO INSEPECTED THAT. AFTER MUCH RESEARCH IT SEEMS TO BE A VERY WELL KNOWN AND UNSAFE CONDITION.

WHEN I BROUGHT MY CAR TO RAMSEY VOLVO FOR SERVICE, VOLVO RECOMMENDED THE ANGLE GEAR RESEAL SERVICE BECAUSE THE ANGLE GEAR BOX IS LEAKING AS SHOWN IN THE ATTACHED PICTURE. UPON FURTHER RESEARCH, I FOUND THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON ISSUE WITH ALL VOLVO XC90S, SO MUCH SO THAT IT CAN BE CLASSIFIED AS A MANUFACTURER DEFECT, AND QUALIFIES AS A RECALL IN MY OPINION. THE ANGLE GEAR BOX IS AN UNDISTURBED PART AND IS SUPPOSED TO BE SEALED FOR THE LIFETIME OF THE CAR. WHEN THE FLUID IN THE ANGLE GEAR BOX IS COMPLETELY LEAKED OUT, WHICH IS SOMETHING WITH NO INDICATION WHATSOEVER, THE CAR WOULD LOSE ALL WHEEL DRIVE ACCORDING TO VOLVO. WHEN THAT HAPPENS IN A SLIPPERY SITUATION WITH ICE OR SNOW, THE CAR IS MOST LIKELY TO LOSE CONTROL AND WOULD LEAD TO A SERIOUS ACCIDENT WITH POTENTIAL LOSS OF LIVES. I WOULD LIKE VOLVO TO VOLUNTARILY RECALL ALL VOLVO XC90S TO FIX ALL LEAKING ANGLE GEAR BOXES SO NO LIVES WOULD BE LOST.

TRANSMISSION IS DEFECTIVE AND FAILS EVERY 50,000 MILES WITHOUT WARNING WHICH COULD LEAD TO AN ACCIDENT AS VEHICLE BECOMES INOPERABLE (STOPS AND CANNOT BE MOVED) THIS IS THE 3RD TRANSMISSION INSTALLED IN THE VEHICLE BY VOLVO. EACH OF THE TRANSMISSIONS HAVE FAILED AROUND 50,000 MILES WITHOUT WARNING.

Unknown..but water accumulated under the passenger seat under the amp and electrical components after a storm or rainy day.and its a lot of water when I brake i can hear a water fall..and water rushing and moving along the bottom. Of the car as I am steering im worried that the wiring and electrical will be damaged by water exposure the battery always dies wires soaked and sitting in water underneath passenger and never can completely get the moisture smell out of front seat area..mildew..why is this water leaking or not draining correctly ??

On May 26, 2022, I was stuck in traffic for four hours, and the car's CEM (central electronic module) overheated causing the dashboard to shut down three times, meaning I lost all instrument readings. After each time the dashboard shut down, I had to pull over and reset fuse #27 to have the dashboard come back online temporarily. Because the CEM was already overheated due to its design flaw with improper ventilation, the dashboard would shut down again and again. A Google search would show this is a very common issue for 2004 Volvo models and before. Driving without any instrument readings is totally unsafe. I strongly urge you to force Volvo to issue a recall for 2004 and before models and fix the CEM overheating problem.

THE CAR IS LEAKING A SUBSTANTIAL AMOUNT OF WATER MY DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE FLOODS WITH WATER. NOW WHEN I BRAKE I CAN HEAR SO MUCH WATER MOVING BACK AND FORTH. The contact owns a 2004 Volvo XC90. The contact stated that after refueling the vehicle, his wife noticed an abnormally strong gasoline odor. The contact's wife was able to continue driving the vehicle; however, the failure would return after refueling or on rainy days. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 09V483000 (Fuel System, Gasoline) however, the VIN was not included. The dealer and the manufacturer were notified of the failure and informed the contact that they could not assist as the VIN was not under recall. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 30,000.

Few days ago I came home, parked the car inside the garage and went inside. An hour later I went to the garage for something and noticed a very strong gasoline odor coming from the car. It is not coming from the reservoir and I did not put any fuel recently, so it can't be explained with a fuel spill. I suspect it is coming from the fuel pump. I as hoping or it to goo away, but it did not. It has been a week already.

THE FUEL PUMP UNDER THE BACK SEAT IS CRACKED AND LEAKING FUEL. THIS IS REFERENCED IN NHTSA RECALL NUMBER 09V483000. O'STEEN VOLVO IN JACKSONVILLE REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE THERE WAS EVER A PROBLEM WITH THIS. IT IS ALL OVER THE INTERNET.THE VEHICLE IS NOT DRIVEABLE AS IS. THE CAR IS SOAKED WITH GASOLINE. APPARENTLY THE FUEL PUMP HOUSING DRIES OUT FROM HEAT AND CRACKS. WE NEED SOME HELP HERE. IT WOULD BE BETTER IF SOMEONE IN SAINT AUGUSTINE FLORIDA COULD DO THIS RECALL WORK FOR US AS WE REALLY DON'T WANT TO DEAL WITH O'STEEN AFTER THEY HAVE BLOWN US OFF.

A FEW YEARS AGO I RECEIVED A EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR A FUEL PUMP RECALL. MY FUEL PUMP IS NOW LEAKING GAS AND FILLING THE CAR WITH GAS FUMES. WHEN I CALLED THE VOLVO DEALER I WAS TOLD THAT THE EXTENDED WARRANTY WAS NO LONGER VALID AND IT WOULD COST $1,000.00 TO HAVE IT FIXED. I CALLED THE VEHICLE SAFETY HOTLINE AND WAS TOLD THAT MY VIN NUMBER WASN'T INCLUDED IN THE RECALL AND I WOULD NEED TO FILE A COMPLAINT. THE CAR IS 16 YEARS OLD AND IS IN GOOD CONDITION I FEEL THAT AS VOLVO KNOWS THAT THE FUEL PUMP IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT ALL CARS THAT HAVE THE SAME FUEL PUMP ISSUE THAT ARE STILL DRIVING THE HIGHWAYS SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. NOTHING HAPPENED OTHER THAN THE HEAVY FUEL SMELL THAT FILLS THE CAR WHEN DRIVING AND THE FUEL CAN BE SMELLED OUTSIDE OF THE CAR AFTER IT HAS BEEN TURNED OFF. I HAVE HAD THE CAR FIXED BUT THINK THAT THE FUEL PUMP ISSUE SHOULD STILL BE ADDRESSED. I DIDN'T HAVE AN ACCIDENT AND THERE WAS NO FIRE, BUT THERE COULD HAVE BEEN.

I KEEP GETTING THAT THE ANTI-SKID NEEDS TO BE SERVICED BUT WHEN I GOT IT CHECKED THEY REPORTED THAT THEY COULDNT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE ANTI-SKID AND THE ERROR IS CONSTANTLY LIT IN THE SERVICE WINDOW OF THE VEHICLE. I CAN FEEL THE DIFFERENCE WHILE DRIVING IN WET CONDITIONS. IS THERE ANYTHING SPECIFIC THEY SHOULD LOOK FOR OTHER THAN ADVISING ME THAT ITS PROBABLY A SENSOR. I DON'T FEEL SAFE DRIVING IN RAIN.

WHEN THE BALLAST FAILS THE HEADLIGHT GO OFF. SOMETIME 1 LIGHT, SOMETIMES BOTH. I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY AT NIGHT, THE PAST TWO TIME THAT THE LIGHTS WENT OFF. GUESS WHAT, THERE IS NO BACK UP LIGHT . SO I HAD TO DRIVE TO THE NEXT EXIT IN TOTAL FEAR OF CRASHING DURING THE RAIN. OH, AND I DID PULL OVER IN THE SIDE PROBLEM THERE WAS NO SHOULDER, CONSTRUCTION. ALL YOU NEED TO LIGHT A BULB IS A FEW WATTS, THE BALLAST SYSTEM IS A JOKE AND COSTLY. IT WILL RESULT IN SOMEONE CRASHING AND DEATH. DRIVING ALONG A RURAL ROAD IN E. OREGON AT AROUND 7:30 PM AND ALL FRONT LIGHTS WENT OUT AT ONCE (ALL OF THEM). The rear right door cannot be open from inside the car. It opens fine from outside. I am aware there is a child safety lock, but in this case the problem is somewhere else. Regardless of the child safety lock position, the door cannot be open. This is a hazard, because in case oof an accident the passenger will e trapped inside the car.

THERE APPEARS TO BE A PROBLEM WITH THE XC90 VOLVO TRANSMISSION IN ALL YEARS. THE MESSAGE ERROR CODE GIVEN IS "TRANSMISSION SERVICE REQUIRED". THE DEALERS CLAIMS IT JUST HAS TO UPDATE THE CAR SOFTWARE TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. A RUBBING NOISE BEGAN IN LATE SEPTEMBER. I HAD AN INSPECTION AND DIAGNOSTIC AT THE DEALERSHIP ON SEPTEMBER 23RD. THEY TOLD ME THE FRONT BEARINGS AND THE LOWER ENGINE MOUNT PAD SHOULD BE REPLACED. THE NEXT DAY, WHILE I WAS DRIVING, THE TRANSMISSION SEIZED. THE CAR WAS TOWED AND THE DEALERSHIP SAID THEY HAD TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION AND ENTIRE COOLANT SYSTEM. THEIR DIAGNOSTIC SPECIALIST WAS UNABLE TO DETECT SUCH A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE THE DAY BEFORE IT HAPPENED. WHO KNOWS WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED IF I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY. VOLVO ACKNOWLEDGED THE PROBLEM BUT ONLY PAID FOR HALF OF THE PARTS AND LABOR. I STILL HAD TO COME OUT OF POCKET $3000+.

WE JUST PURCHASED A 2004 VOLVO XC90 T6 ON JUNE 2, 2010 FROM A PRIVATE SELLER WHO ORIGINALLY PURCHASED THE VEHICLE AND HAVE IT MAINTAINED FULLY AT RICKENBAUGH VOLVO IN DENVER. WE ARE FIRST TIME OWNERS OF A VOLVO VEHICLE. THE CAR CURRENTLY HAS 76,783 MILES ON IT. AFTER JUST OWNING THE VEHICLE FOR 4 WEEKS AND ADDING JUST 400 MILES ON THE VEHICLE, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WENT ON AND WHILE DRIVING TO THE RICKENBAUGH VOLVO SERVICE STATION, A MESSAGE CAME UP WITH 'URGENT TRANSMISSION SERVICE REQUIRED'. WE WERE TOLD BY THE SERVICE MANAGER THAT THE CAR NEEDS NEW TRANSMISSION WITH RADIATOR, OIL COOLER AND OIL COOLER LINES IN THE AMOUNT OF $7,800.00. AT 65MPH ON A HIGHWAY, THE VEHICLE REGISTERED A "ANTI-SKID SERVICE REQUIRED" FAULT MESSAGE, THEN AN "ELECTRICAL SERVICE REQUIRED" MESSAGE. THE ENGINE THEN QUIT RUNNING, THE STEERING BECAME UNRESPONSIVE AND THE VEHICLE IMMEDIATELY STARTED DECELERATING. THE BRAKING WAS VERY MUSHY AND THE CAR WAS DIFFICULT TO PULL OVER AND STOP. THE CAR WOULD NOT START. ALL THE LIGHTS AND THE BATTERY SEEM TO BE WORKING FINE. THE DEALERSHIP DETERMINED THE CEM (ENGINE CONTROL MODULE) WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDS REPLACEMENT.

I SWITCHED FROM HEADLIGHTS ON TO DAYLIGHT DRIVING LIGHTS ON. I RECEIVED A "BULB FAILURE" FOR THE DAYLIGHT DRIVING LIGHTS. I SWITCHED BACK TO HEADLIGHTS. I RECEIVED A "BULB FAILURE" FOR THE HIDS. I HAVE VERIFIED THAT THE FUSES ARE GOOD, AND THAT THERE ARE NOW NO WORKING HEADLIGHTS ON THE CAR. HAD THIS HAPPENED AT NIGHT IT COULD HAVE BEEN BAD, VERY BAD. THANK GOD IT HAPPENED DURING A SUNNY DAY AND THAT THE TEEN DRIVER WASN'T BEHIND THE WHEEL.

MY HEADLIGHTS, DRIVING LIGHTS, PARK LIGHTS, AND TURN SIGNALS ARE NOT WORKING. THIS BEGAN WHEN I STARTED TO GO SOMEWHERE LAST NIGHT. ALL OF THESE THINGS WERE WORKING THE DAY BEFORE. THE TAIL LIGHTS, TURN SIGNALS, AND BRAKE LIGHTS ARE WORKING IN THE REAR. MY VEHICLE IS GARAGED WHEN IT IS NOT IN USE. MY RADIO, CD PLAYER, OR SATELLITE RADIO WOULD NOT OPERATE 2 DAYS AGO AND STARTED WORKING THE NEXT TIME I STARTED MY CAR. ABOUT 2 WEEKS AGO THE CAR WOULDN'T START. IT ACTED LIKE THE SECURITY SYSTEM HAD BEEN ACTIVATED AS IT WOULD CRANK, BUT NOT START. I WAITED FOR ABOUT AN HOUR AND TRIED IT AGAIN AND IT STARTED THE FIRST TIME. I HAVE CHECKED ALL FUSES. I AM TAKING IT TO THE REPAIR SHOP TODAY TO SEE IF THEY CAN FIGURE OUT WHAT IS HAPPENING. THESE PROBLEMS ARE INTERMITTENT AND DO NOT REPEAT OFTEN ENOUGH TO DIAGNOSE PROPERLY. MY HUSBAND HAD A 55MPH CRASH IN MY 2004 VOLVO XC90 ON THE FREEWAY. HE REAR ENDED ANOTHER DRIVER AT TOP SPEED, WAS SPUN AROUND SEVERAL TIMES ON THE FREEWAY AND ENDED UP FACING TRAFFIC. THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG DEPLOYED, BUT THE DRIVER'S SIDE DID NOT. THE INSPECTOR FROM MY INSURANCE COMPANY SAID THERE WAS NOT REASON THE DRIVER'S SIDE AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY AT THAT SPEED, OTHER THAN A DEFECT, AS FAR AS HE WAS CONCERNED. I CONTACTED VOLVO AND WAS BASICALLY GIVEN THE RUN AROUND ABOUT HOW THE AIRBAG SHOULD NOT HAVE DEPLOYED AND THAT THIS WAS PERFECTLY OKAY. AT ABOUT 60,000 MILES WHILE THE VEHICLE, A 2004 VOLVO XC 90 T6 WAS IN OPERATION AT 55 MPH THE POWER TO THE DASH AND ALL ACCESSORIES WENT DEAD. THE HORN, THE BLINKERS, THE SPEEDOMETER (RADIO, POWER WINDOWS ETC.) ALL FAILED TO WORK EVEN AS THE CAR WAS IN OPERATION AND WAS BEING DRIVEN ON THE HIGHWAY. LATER UPON RESTART THERE WAS AN ERROR CODE IN THE DASH, IN THE ICM I BELIEVE THEY CALL IT (INFOTAINMENT CONTROL MODULE), SAYING URGENT SRS (SUPPLEMENTAL SUPPORT SYSTEM- AKA SIDE AIRBAGS) SERVICE URGENT ?OR SOMETHING TO THAT EFFECT. THE DEALER USED THEIR PROPRIETARY READER TO DECIPHER THE ERROR CODES AND WE WERE TOLD THAT THE DIM, OR DRIVER INFORMATION MODULE FOR THE SRS SYSTEM HAD GONE BAD, IT HAD A SHORT. THEY SAID IF WE DID NOT REPLACE IT THEY SAID THAT THE SHORT COULD OVERRIDE COMMUNICATION OF THE OTHER MODULES AND ELECTRONICS ON THAT SAME CIRCUIT AND WE MIGHT LOSE OTHER CONTROLS INCLUDING POSSIBLY AN UNEXPECTED ENGINE SHUTDOWN OR OTHER OPERATIONAL ABILITIES. $ 1532.00 LATER, AND LESS THAN TWO DAYS AFTER WE HAD THE SUV REPAIRED, WE HAD A REPEAT OF THE COMPLETE DASH POWER FAILURE. THIS TIME WE WERE TOO WORRIED TO TURN THE CAR OFF AND INSTEAD DROVE DIRECTLY TO THE DEALER WITHOUT A SPEEDOMETER, HORN, GAS GAUGE OR TURN SIGNALS. WE CHECKED AND THE WIPERS REMAINED OPERATIONAL. UPON RESTART AT THE DEALERSHIP THE SAME ERROR MESSAGE APPEARS- SRS SERVICE URGENT. BUT THIS TIME THE DEALER READS THE DIAGNOSTIC ERROR CODES AND TELLS US THAT IT IS LIKELY A CEM, OR CENTRAL ELECTRONIC MODULE- (ABOUT $1200.00 + TAX) BUT THEY ADD IT MIGHT BE THE DEM OR DIFFERENTIAL ELECTRONIC MODULE. IT SEEMS LUDICROUS THAT NECESSARY ELECTRONIC CONTROLS WOULD NOT HAVE PROTECTION FROM CROSS FAILURES, AND THAT A BAD DIM OR CEM WOULD PLACE THE OPERATORS AND PASSENGERS AT RISK BY KNOCKING OUT OTHER CONTROLS. While driving on the highway "SRS urgent" text came on, also hear clicking sounds under dash on driver side, then dashboard indicator lights completely disappear (speed, fuel, temperature, etc) . Extremely hot under driver side dash. Fortunately, still able to steer and brake. This has happened twice now. Mechanic believes most likely CEM failure or DIM failure. My vehicle also has a wet A-pillar fabric (Volvo forums indicate possible cause of failure). I removed drivers A-pillar and found a clogged drain tube from the sunroof. However, did not notice any obvious signs of water inside the vehicle, though it hasnt rained for over a month when this happened.

ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS, OUR VEHICLE WOULD NOT RESTART AFTER STOPPING FOR GAS. THIS OCCURRED AFTER IT WAS SERVICED AND BATTERY REPLACED A WEEK PRIOR. AAA WAS UNABLE TO JUMP START IT AS WELL, AND VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED BACK TO DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIRS. ACCORDING TO THE TWO SEPARATE DEALERSHIPS, THE CENTRAL ELECTRONICS MODULE IS THE CULPRIT, AND NEEDED REPLACING. ACROSS MULTIPLE ONLINE FORUMS, VOLVO OWNERS HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT SIMILAR PROBLEMS WITH THE CEM, OFTEN PLACING DRIVERS AND OCCUPANTS IN DANGER AS THEY EXPERIENCED COMPLETE ELECTRICAL OUTAGE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. WE WERE FORTUNATELY THAT OUR VEHICLE JUST DID NOT RESTART, INSTEAD OF SHUTTING DOWN IN TRAFFIC AT 65 MPH. WHILE TRYING TO PUSH THE GAS PEDAL THE CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. THEN NORMAL FUNCTION RESUMED. A MINUTE OR TWO LATER, SAME THING AND ALL LIGHTS INTERNALLY COMPLETELY WENT OUT, I PULLED OVER IMMEDIATELY AND TURNED THE CAR OFF. HAZARD LIGHTS COULD NOT BE TURNED ON. AFTER CALLING FOR A TOW TRUCK, AND WAITING ABOUT 45 MINUTES I RESTARTED IT. THERE WERE 2 MESSAGES ON THE DASH, THE YELLOW EXCLAMATION POINT DASHBOARD ICON/ALERT LIT UP, A SERVICE MESSAGE FLASHED REFERRING TO THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE FAILURE, THE SRS NEEDED URGENT ATTENTION. I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE IN EARLY NOVEMBER 2012 I CALLED THE CLOSEST VOLVO DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THERE WERE NO OPEN RECALLS AND THEY HAD TO HAVE THE VEHICLE FOR DIAGNOSIS BECAUSE OF THE DIFFERENT SYMPTOMS I REPORTED NOT A SINGLE MENTION OF NHTSA DEFECT INVESTIGATIONS FOR THE 2004 VOLVO XC90 THAT SEEMS SPECIFICALLY RELATED TO MY SYMPTOMS EXPERIENCED. SUN ROOF GLASS SHATTERED WHILE DRIVING 55+ MPH ON THE INTERSTATE FREEWAY UNDER NORMAL CONDITION DURING MY COMMUTE HOME. I CALLED THE POLICE THINKING THAT SOMEONE HAD THROW A ROCK DOWN FROM A BRIDGE OVERHEAD, BUT ONCE STOPPED I FOUND NO EVIDENCE OF AN OBJECT BEING THE CAUSE OF THE GLASS SHATTERING. THERE WERE NO MARKS ON THE ROOF OF THE VEHICLE OR ANY OBJECT FOUND INSIDE THE VEHICLE. IT WAS A SPONTANEOUS SHATTERING OF THE SUN ROOF GLASS ON AN OTHERWISE NORMAL DRIVE HOME ON A SUNNY DAY, NO WEATHER, TEMP WAS AROUND 75 DEGREES.

WE WERE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT NIGHT IN HEAVY RAIN WHEN THE COMPUTER SHORTED OUT. THE CAR JOLTED 2 OR 3 TIMES AND THEN THE DASH AND EVERYTHING THE COMPUTER CONTROLS DIED. I HAVE HAD TWO INCIDENTS IN WHICH THE CAR CYCLES OFF AND ON AFTER APPROXIMATE THREE HOURS OF HIGHWAY DRIVING A FEW TIMES, AND THEN LOSES ALL AUXILIARY POWER, SRS LIGHT COMES ON, BRAKE FAILURE, BUT CAR CONTINUES TO RUN AND BRAKES OPERATE FINE. ON THE SECOND OCCASION, I PULLED OFF THE HIGHWAY, TURNED THE CAR OFF, THEN ON AGAIN, AND THE CAR WORKED FINE FOR A FEW MINUTES, AND DID THIS AGAIN WHEN THE CAR POWERED DOWN, UNTIL I REACHED MY DESTINATION. THE CAR THEN SAT IN A PARKING LOT AND I RETURNED ON THE 250 MILE JOURNEY HOME. I STOPPED EVERY HOUR TO HOUR AND A HALF, AND MADE IT HOME AFTER FIVE HOURS, WITHOUT INCIDENT. WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH ON I-5 WE HEARD A LOUD THUMP IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT AND WE SUDDENLY WENT TO ABOUT 25 MPH ALL OF OUR ELECTRONIC SYSTEMS SHUT DOWN, THERE WAS AN EXTREMELY LOUD GRINDING SOUND FOR APPROX. 2-3 SECONDS. NOW I THINK MY TRANSMISSION IS DAMAGED AND THE ELECTRONICS SYSTEM SHUTS DOWN PRETTY FREQUENTLY. I AM TOTALLY DISAPPOINTED TO READ THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED TO NUMEROUS OTHER FAMILIES. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE OWNER'S MANUAL PROVIDED INACCURATE INFORMATION PERTAINING TO THE TOWING CAPACITY; HOWEVER, THE 2005 AND 2006 OWNER'S MANUAL SPECIFIED THE ACCURATE WEIGHT REDUCTION WITH THE VEHICLE OCCUPANTS. IN ADDITION, THE ENTIRE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM BECAME INOPERATIVE INTERMITTENTLY. THE RELAY SWITCH, INTERNAL REM AND YAW MODULES WERE REPLACED AT DIFFERENT TIMES. WHILE DRIVING THE ENGINE WOULD COMPLETELY SHUT OFF WHEN THE CONTACTS KNEE WAS CLOSE TO THE IGNITION KEY. THE FAILURE CONTINUED AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 VOLVO XC90. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO HAVE THE TIRES REPLACED. THE FRONT RIGHT TIRE WAS REPLACED AND AIR CAME OUT OF THE TIRE. I HAVE 2004 VOLVO XC90 2.5T. AT APPROXIMATELY 60,000 MILES, TWO OF THE WHEEL BEARINGS (1 FRONT, 1 REAR) MALFUNCTIONED. THE FRONT WAS SO LOOSE, THE WHEEL ALMOST FELL OFF AT HIGH SPEED. I HAD TO HAVE THE VEHICLE TOWED TO A MECHANIC. AT APPROXIMATELY 100,000 MILES, THE OTHER FRONT WHEEL BEARING MALFUNCTIONED. ONCE AGAIN, THE WHEEL ALMOST FELL OFF AT HIGH SPEED. IT WON'T RESPOND TO ACCELERATION AND BRAKES ARE VERY HARD TO PUSH, THE ENGINE DOES NOT STOP. SIMILAR TO MANY OTHERS, WHILE DRIVING OUR 2004 VOLVO XC90, WE HEAR A CLICK, THEN THE CLIMATE, RADIO AND WINDSHIELD WIPERS (IF ON) SHUT OFF AND THEIR DISPLAY LIGHTS BLACK OUT, THEN ANOTHER CLICK IN A FRACTION OF A SECOND AND THEY COME BACK ON. THIS WAS HAPPENING RANDOMLY, AND NOTHING ELSE WAS AFFECTED, UNTIL THIS WEEKEND, WHILE ON A TRIP. WE WERE DRIVING ON HIGHWAYS, OUTSIDE TEMP IN THE 80'S, NO RAIN, AVERAGE SPEED ABOUT 70MPH. IT HAPPENED A FEW TIMES OVER ABOUT 45 MINUTES, THEN BEGAN HAPPENING EVERY 5 MILES OR SO. WHEN I TURNED UP THE AC FAN, WITHIN ABOUT A MINUTE IT CLICKED AND WE LOST THE USUAL THINGS, BUT THEY DID NOT COME BACK ON. THEN WE HEARD ANOTHER CLICK AND LOST ALL DASHBOARD LIGHTING AND CONTROLS; WE COULD NOT SEE THE INSTRUMENT PANEL, THE CLIMATE CONTROL WAS BLOWING HOT AIR AND COULD NOT BE SHUT OFF OR TURNED DOWN, AND WE HAD NO IDEA WHAT SPEED WE WERE GOING AS IT WAS NIGHTTIME. EXTREMELY FRIGHTENING AND DANGEROUS. WE MADE IT TO THE FIRST EXIT THAT HAD A GAS STATION AND STOPPED. THE CAR WAS VERY HARD TO ACCELERATE WHEN WE GOT OFF AT THE EXIT AS WELL. I WAS ABLE TO OPEN THE WINDOWS BUT WHEN I OPENED THE MOON ROOF, IT STOPPED HALF WAY AND THEN WOULD NOT CLOSE OR OPEN. WE WERE STRANDED FOR HOURS AWAITING A FAMILY MEMBER TO COME GET US AND THEN HOURS LONGER WAITING FOR THE VEHICLE TO BE TOWED. OUR MECHANIC RESEARCHED THIS AND ENCOURAGED ME TO REPORT, AS HE SAID THERE SEEM TO BE HUNDREDS OF REPORTS OF SIMILAR THINGS HAPPENING WITH THIS YEAR, MAKE AND MODEL VEHICLE.

2004 VOLVO XC90 SUDDEN ENGINE STALL WITH LOSE OF HEADLIGHTS: I WAS TRAVELING ON THE INTERSTATE AT NIGHT WITH THE CRUISE SET AT 75 MPH WHEN SUDDENLY IT WAS LIKE SOMEONE TURNED THE IGNITION KEY TO OFF FOR ABOUT 3 SECONDS, AND THEN TURNED THE KEY BACK ON WITHOUT RESTARTING THE ENGINE. WITH ALL THE WARNING LAMPS ILLUMINATED, AND THE ENGINE AT A STALL I PULLED INTO THE EMERGENCY LANE, AND STOPPED. I THEN SHIFTED TO PARK AND ATTEMPTED TO START THE VEHICLE, WHERE IT TOOK SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO START. THE HEADLIGHTS DID NOT STOP WORKING WHILE PULLING OVER, AND WHEN I STOPPED I SWITCHED THE LIGHTS OFF BEFORE I RESTARTED THE ENGINE. THE FIRST THING AT MIND WAS A FUEL PUMP THAT WAS STARTING TO ACT UP. AFTER RESTARTING I REVVED THE ENGINE UP A FEW QUICK TIMES (TO CLEAR THE ENGINES THROAT). I THEN GOT BACK ON THE INTERSTATE ACCELERATING TO 75 MPH , BUT DOING SO MANUALLY THIS TIME(NO CRUISE CONTROL). ABOUT 10 MIN HAD PASSED WHEN SUDDENLY THE ENGINE STARTED LOSING POWER AS I WAS HAVING TO PRESS THE ACCELERATOR HARDER TO MAINTAIN SPEED. WHILE STILL COASTING AT 65 MPH OR SO I PLACED THE TRANSMISSION INTO NEUTRAL, AND ATTEMPTED TO RESTART THE ENGINE, WHEN I TURNED THE KEY TO THE START POSITION I LOST ALL THE LIGHTS, I QUICKLY RELEASED THE KEY TO THE ON POSITION, AND THE LIGHTS REMAINED OFF. I QUICKLY PULLED TO THE EMERGENCY LANE AND USED THE FORCE TO AVOID THE GUARDRAIL AND THE DITCH. ALL THE WARNING LIGHT WERE ILLUMINATED, AND THE ENGINE WAS AT A STALL. I THEN TURNED THE IGNITION KEY OFF AND THEN BACK ON, AND THAT RESTORED THE HEADLIGHTS. IT TOOK 5-8 ATTEMPTS TO RESTART THE ENGINE, AND AGAIN I'M THINKING FUEL PUMP ACTING UP. EACH TIME I ATTEMPTED TO RESTART THE ENGINE IT WOULD SPIT AND SPUTTER LIKE IF THE FUEL PUMP WERE ONLY DELIVERING HALF THE PRESSURE NEEDED FOR THE FUEL INJECTORS. AFTER THE ENGINE RESTARTED I MADE IT HOME, AND THE PROBLEM HAS NOT ARISEN SINCE,

WHILE DRIVING, RANDOM MASSIVE ELECTRICAL FAILURE WHICH SHUTS OFF ALL LIGHTS, GAUGES AND ACCESSORIES. PERFORMANCE RETURNS AND THEN GOES OUT AGAIN. INEVITABLY, CAR LOSES ACCELERATION, BRAKES AND STEERING. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON AND CAR GOES INTO "LIMP HOME" MODE. VOLVO DEALERSHIP CLAIMS THEY CAN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG. MY RESEARCH INDICATES THAT PROBLEMS OF THIS NATURE WERE UNCOVERED AS FAR BACK AS 2004 AND HAVE BEEN CONSISTENTLY REPORT TO VOLVO. HOWEVER, NO SOLUTION HAS BEEN PUBLICIZED.

I HAVE A 2004 VOLVO XC90 THAT HAS 52,000 MILES ON IT. I STARTED RECEIVING A "BRAKE FAILURE" WARNING AND TOOK IT IN TO MY MECHANIC. HE SAID IT WAS ABS/DSTC CONTROL MODULE WHICH REGULATES THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES AND DYNAMIC STABILITY CONTROL. THIS IS A SAFETY FEATURE, AND ACCORDING TO MY MECHANIC, HAS BEEN KNOWN TO BE DEFECTIVE ON THIS MODEL. IT REQUIRES REPLACING WITH A FACTORY PART, AND REPROGRAMMING OF THE COMPUTER AT A COST TO THE CONSUMER OF ABOUT $1100. LABOR FOR THIS IS APPROXIMATELY $250. SINCE THIS IS A SAFETY FEATURE, AND DUE TO THE FACT THAT THIS IS SUCH A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE, I FEEL IF IS REASONABLE TO REQUEST THAT VOLVO RECALL THESE VEHICLES AND REPAIR THIS FEATURE. *TR

AFTER DRIVING FOR AT LEAST AN HOUR THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY SHUTS DOWN FOR A SPLIT SECOND. ALL GAUGES GO OUT, LOSS OF POWER BRIEFLY, WIPERS SOMETIMES KICK ON AND FOG LIGHTS RESET AND SHUT OFF AND THERE IS A THUMP FROM THE TRANSMISSION. THIS HAPPENS MAINLY AT FREEWAY SPEEDS BUT HAS HAPPENED A FEW TIMES AT 30 MPH AND SLOWER. CAN HAPPEN SEVERAL TIMES ON A 2.5 HOUR TRIP. ONCE IT HAPPENS IT CAN HAPPEN ANYTIME. DOESN'T DO IT ON TRIPS AROUND TOWN. CALLED VOLVO OF NORTH AMERICA AND THEY DENIED ANY PROBLEMS WITH THE CEM AND SAID SINCE IT'S AN '04 WITH 85,000 MILES THAT I'M OUT OF WARRANTY AND THEY CAN OFFER NO HELP.

THIS REPORT IS ABOUT A HAZARDOUS SITUATION WITH OUR 2004 XC90. THE ENGINE SHUT DOWN WITHOUT WARNING ON THE I5 FREEWAY! THE CAR SUDDENLY LOST POWER AND WE HAD TO COAST TO THE SIDE IN THE DARK. WE WERE LUCKY TO NOT GET HIT! THE DISPLAY SHOWED THE FOLLOWING ERROR CODE: ECM-981A. WE ARE AWARE OF THE FACT THAT THIS PROBLEM IS NOT NEW TO NHTSA AND THAT YOU HAVE RECEIVED SEVERAL REPORTS ON IT ALREADY. IT APPEARS THAT THE PROBLEM HAS TO DO WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL, AND EVER SINCE THE INCIDENT WE HAVE BEEN DRIVING THE CAR WITHOUT ENGAGING IT WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS. THE MILEAGE ON THE CAR IS 138,000 MILES. THE PROBLEM OCCURRED WHEN ENGAGING THE CRUISE CONTROL ON AN UPHILL SLOPE. WE SPECULATE THAT IT MIGHT BE CAUSED BY ENGAGING THE CRUISE CONTROL AT THE SAME INSTANT AS THE CAR SHIFTS DOWN AUTOMATICALLY. I TALKED TO A VOLVO SERVICE TECHNICIAN WHO AID THAT HE HAD EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM WITH HIS OWN 2004 XC90 BUT HE WAS UNABLE TO FIND WHAT HAD CAUSED IT.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 VOLVO XC90. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, THE VEHICLE BECAME UNRESPONSIVE TO THE CONTACTS ATTEMPTS TO ACCELERATE. ALL ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS ALSO FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS PULLED OVER AND SHUT OFF FOR APPROXIMATELY 3 HOURS. UPON RESTART, THE VEHICLE WOULD DRIVE AS NORMAL BUT ALL OF THE WARNING INDICATOR LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD WERE ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE FAILURE WAS UNABLE TO BE DIAGNOSED AND THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE RECURRED TWICE AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE MECHANIC WAS STILL UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 94,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 97,000.

WHILE DRIVING, THE ELECTRONIC PANEL ALL SHUT DOWN AND I GOT MSG REGARDING BRAKE FAILURE AND TO STOP SAFELY. I WAS ON LEFT-MOST LANE OF HIGHWAY AND MY SIGNALS AND HAZARD LIGHTS WOULD NOT TURN ON!!! EVEN MY POWER WINDOW WOULD NOT WORK SO I COULDN'T OPEN FOR ME TO MAKE HAND-SIGNALS. LUCKY MY FATHER-IN-LAW NEXT TO ME HAD WINDOW OPEN SO I TOLD HIM TO MAKE MOTIONS TO SURROUNDING CARS FOR ME TO CHANGE LANES SAFELY. WHEN I WAS ABLE TO STOP, I TURNED OFF CAR, TURNED ON AGAIN AND GOT SRS AIRBAG URGENT MSG ON PANEL. SINCE CAR STARTED OK BUT WITH MSG, I TOOK SIDE STREETS HOME BUT IT SHUT OFF AGAIN 2 TIMES. I DID SAME THING (STOP/RESTARTED) AND MADE IT HOME. I HAD MY IN-LAWS WITH ME AND MY 3 YOUNG KIDS WHEN IT FIRST HAPPENED ON 12/23/11. SINCE IT WAS AN AIRBAG MESSAGE, MY HUSBAND NOT TOO CONCERNED - HE WASN'T WITH ME WHEN IT FIRST HAPPENED SO I DON'T THINK HE REALIZED THE GRAVITY. I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AND THERE WAS A SLIGHT THUMPING NOISE AND THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS FAILED AND SHUTDOWN IN A SECOND. THE POWER WAS LOST AND THE VEHICLE CAME TO A SUDDEN HALT. LUCKILY I WAS ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE ROAD AND I HAD PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. IT WAS VERY SCARY, AS I WAS ON THE FREEWAY IN THE NIGHT AND I COULD HAVE VERY WELL BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT CAUSING DAMAGE TO MY LIFE AND OTHERS. THE ELECTRICAL FAILURE CAUSED THE CAR TO LOOSE COMPLETE CONTROL OF THE SPEED AND THE CAR CAME TO AN IMMEDIATE HALT. BRAKES ON THE VEHICLE FAIL INTERMITTENTLY, ESPECIALLY AT LOW SPEEDS (LIKE BACKING OUT OF A PARKING SPOT. I HAVE A 2004 VOLVO XC90. AT APPROXIMATELY 52K MILES, THE XC90 1ST GENERATION TRANSMISSION WENT BAD AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. CARLSEN VOLVO (PALO ALTO, CA) AGREED TO COVER THE COST OF THE TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENT. I WAS VERY PLEASED WITH THE SERVICE AND WENT ON MY WAY. IN DECEMBER 2010 AT ~107,000K MILES, THE TRANSMISSION STARTED TO HESITATE & FUNCTION ERRATICALLY WHILE DRIVING. WITHIN AFEW DAYS, THE CAR WAS PARKED AT MY HOME, AND WAS UNABLE TO ENGAGE IN FORWARD OR REVERSE. I TOWED THE CAR IN; IT WAS DIAGNOSED W/ INTERNAL TRANSMISSION PROBLEM. THE SERVICE REP SAID THAT SHE WOULD TALK TO THE FACTORY REP REGARDING COMPENSATION. THE DEALER REP CALLED VOLVO N.A. REP, WYATT, WHO OFFERED TO PAY FOR THE PARTS (~$3,500) BUT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE LABOR(~$1,500). MY HUSBAND COUNTERED THAT WE WOULD LIKE THE WHOLE THING PAID FOR SINCE IT WAS WELL KNOWN FACTORY DEFECT. WHEN WYATT HEARD OF OUR COUNTER OFFER, HE NOT ONLY DENIED THIS, BUT SIMPLY STATED THAT THE DEAL WAS OFF THE TABLE, PERIOD. THE NEXT DAY, I RECONSIDERED AND ASKED THE SERVICE REP TO CALL WYATT AGAIN WITH OUR ACCEPTANCE OF THE INITIAL DEAL. WYATT REFUSED TO PUT THE DEAL BACK ON THE TABLE AND SAID WE SHOULD PAY FOR THE REPAIRS OURSELVES. THEN CALLED VOLVO CUSTOMER CARE WHO DOCUMENTED THE COMPLETE STORY,CONTACTED WYATT VIA EMAIL TO AGAIN. HOWEVER, WYATT REFUSED. APPARENTLY BECAUSE I HAVE CHOSEN IN THE PAST TO HAVE A PERSONAL MECHANIC SERVICE MY CAR, CHANGE THE OIL AND TIRES, ETC. I AM CONSIDERED TO BE A "DISLOYAL VOLVO CUSTOMER" AND THIS WAS A CONSIDERATION IN WYATT'S DECISION NOT TO PAY FOR MY TRANSMISSION, EVEN THOUGH IT IS A DEFECTIVE PART. AT THIS POINT, I HAD TO HAVE MY CAR BACK, AND TOLD CARLSEN TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION. CARLSEN OFFERED A 10% DISCOUNT OFF THE TOTAL PRICE. A VERY KIND GESTURE, HOWEVER, I HAD TO PAY $4,600 OUT OF POCKET FOR ANOTHER NEW TRANSMISSION FOR THIS CAR. IT'S WELL DOCUMENTED THAT THE 1ST AND 2ND GENERATION TRANSMISSIONS FOR THIS MODEL HAVE BEEN DEFECTIVE. I AM DISGUSTED. *LN

SWIVEL AND SPRING ON REMOTE CONTROL STOP WORKING. THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING PROBLEM FOR US, BEGINNING LESS THAN 1 YEAR AFTER WE PURCHASED CAR NEW. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED SWIVELS ON REMOTE AND UPGRADED SWIVELS ON REMOTES. AFTER SEVERAL TIMES THEY TOLD US THERE WAS NOTHING ELSE THEY COULD DO. HAVE SINCE CHANGED THE ENGINEERING BUT NOW, PROBABLY DUE TO THE NUMBER OF TIMES THE REMOTE FELL ON GROUND BECAUSE OF FAULTY SWIVELS, THE SPRING FOR THE ACTUAL KEY DOESN'T WORK ANYMORE AND REMOTE WILL TILT DOWN SOMETIMES WHILE DRIVING SO MY WIFE AND 16 YEAR OLD SON HAVE BOTH HAD THEIR KNEES HIT IT AND TURNED THE CAR OFF WHILE DRIVING IT. THE COST OF PARTS AND LABOR OF THE BLOWER AND RESISTOR WAS $1,650 AND THE CD $700. I CONTACTED THE VOLVO HEAD OFFICE AND THEY WERE WILLING TO PROVIDE THE PARTS FREE BUT THE LABOR COST ON ME. I HAVE NO CHOICE TO DO IT RIGHT AWAY BECAUSE I HAVE TWO CHILDREN. I NEED THE CAR TO CARRY THEM TO SCHOOL EVERYDAY. IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE IF THE VENTILATION AND HEAT IS NOT WORKING. I CANNOT DRIVE THE CAR IF THERE IS NO VENTILATION AND THE CAR IS FOGGY DURING RAINY OR SNOWY DAYS. IF I WAS IN THE HIGHWAY, I HAVE TO PARK ON THE SIDE FOR THE POOR VISIBILITY. WE PURCHASED A 2004 VOLVO XV 90 IN AUGUST 2006. LAST MONTH, JULY OF 2009, MY SEVEN YEAR-OLD DAUGHTER REACHED FOR HER SEAT BELT IN THIRD ROW OF THE VEHICLE AND ANNOUNCED IT WAS BROKEN. NOTHING UNUSUAL HAPPENED TO THE VEHICLE TO CAUSE THIS. OUR MECHANIC, HABEGGAR AUTO IN MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN, INFORMED US THIS SEAT BELT WAS A RECALLED ITEM AND ADVISED I CONTACT VOLVO IMMEDIATELY TO HAVE IT FIXED. THE MECHANIC ALSO TOLD ME THE INFORMATION HE GOT FROM ALLDATE ONLINE INDICATED THAT SEAT BELT WAS ALREADY FIXED BUT FAILED AGAIN. WHEN I CALLED VOLVO CUSTOMER CARE AT 1-800-458-1552 I WAS TOLD I NEEDED TO GO TO A CERTIFIED VOLVO DEALER. I THEN TOOK IT TO JENKINS VOLVO IN MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN. THEY VERIFIED THE FACT THAT IT WAS A RECALLED ITEM. BOUGHT THE VEHICLE WITH 112,000 MILES ON IT, IT HAS A GAS LEAK TRICKLING DOWN THE SIDE OF THE GAS TANK, PROBABLY A BAD SENDING UNIT, FUMES ARE BAD SOME DAYS BUT WORSE ON WARMER DAYS. THE TRANSMISSION FAILED ONE DAY WITH NO WARNING OR LIGHT, IT JUST LOST MOMENTUM AND FAILED TO ENGAGE IN DRIVE. I THINK THIS IS DUE TO THE POOR ENGINEERING DESIGN VOLVO USED. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ODOMETER DISPLAYED AN INCORRECT READING AND THERE WAS A FUEL ODOR IN THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE BATTERY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED BACK TO THE INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE OR REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO ANOTHER INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE CENTRAL ELECTRONIC MODULE AND THE FUEL PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. CAR LOST ALL POWER AND MESSAGE WINDOW READ "REDUCED ENGINE PERFORMANCE". WE WERE TRAVELING IN THE LEFT LANE AND HAD TO COAST THROUGH TRAFFIC TO THE SHOULDER. THERE WAS ABSOLUTELY NO THROTTLE RESPONSE, SO WE SHUT THE CAR OFF. UPON RESTARTING IT, THE MESSAGE DISAPPEARED AND WE WERE ABLE TO CONTINUE OUR TRIP. IT HAPPENED AGAIN, AND WE RESET IT ONCE AGAIN. WE STOPPED AT THE FIRST VOLVO REPAIR FACILITY WE FOUND AND HAD THEM SCAN ALL THE COMPUTERS USING THE VOLVO DIAGNOSTIC EQUIPMENT. THE CODE THEY RETRIEVED WAS ECM-981A. THEY CLEARED OUR COMPUTER USING THE VOLVO COMPUTER, BUT THE PROBLEM RETURNED ON OUR RETURN HOME. WE WERE BARELY ABLE TO GET OUT OF THE WAY OF A SEMI BARRELING UPON US! THE PROBLEM STILL PERSISTS, AND I FINALLY WENT TO MY COMPUTER TO FIND SOME INFORMATION ON MY OWN. APPARENTLY, THIS IS NOT SO UNCOMMON A PROBLEM WITH THESE CARS. WHILE CONTINUING ON THESE UNFAMILIAR 2 LANE WINDY ROADS GOING 43MPH (THE SPEED LIMIT WAS 55) ABOUT 2 MILES FROM WHERE THE CLUNK HAPPENED MY ENTIRE DASH CLUSTER STOPPED WORKING. ALL MY DOME LIGHTS AND LEG LIGHTS CAME ON. THE CAR CLUNKED HARDER THIS TIME. I LOST POWER TO THE ENGINE, STEERING WAS LIKE TRYING TO TURN A TANK, AND THE BRAKES WERE VERY SPONGY. AFTER SEVERAL HOURS OF DRIVING IN THE GEORGIA / NORTH CAROLINA MOUNTAINS WITH THE WIFE AND 2 KIDS IN THE BACK, THE AIR-CONDITIONER AND RADIO ON WITH THE 2004 XC90, THE CAR STARTED EXPERIENCING WEIRD BEHAVIOR. SHORTLY AFTER CROSSING THE GEORGIA BORDER INTO THE MOUNTAINS OF NORTH CAROLINA THERE WAS A LOUD NOISE UNDER THE HOOD OF THE CAR AND THE VEHICLE JERKED VIOLENTLY. THE CAR IMMEDIATELY LOST ALL ELECTRICAL POWER (NO DASHBOARD, HAZARD LIGHTS, BLINKERS, WINDOWS AND DOOR LOCKS, SUNROOF, ETC.). THE DRIVE TRAIN ALSO SEEMED STUCK IN A HIGH GEAR AND WOULD NOT DOWNSHIFT WHICH MADE NORMAL DRIVING CLOSE TO IMPOSSIBLE ESPECIALLY ON MOUNTAIN ROADS. ABOUT 15 MINUTES LATER, THE CAR MADE THE VIOLENT NOISE AGAIN UNDER THE HOOD AGAIN AND JERKED VIOLENTLY AGAIN. LUCKILY THERE WAS AN AUTOZONE IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE SECOND INCIDENT AND I HAD THEM READ THE ENGINE CODES WHICH WAS ONLY SHOWING A 'DSTC FAILURE' (DASHBOARD WAS NON-FUNCTIONAL). I DECIDED TO REPLACE THE BATTERY WITH A NEW ONE IN HOPES THAT THE FAILURE WAS BECAUSE OF A WEAK BATTERY TRICKING THE COMPUTER TO GO INTO SURVIVAL MODE. UPON RESTARTING THE CAR, POWER WAS RESTORED TO THE CABIN (AC, RADIO, AND DASH WERE ALL WORKING AGAIN) AND THERE WAS NOW A 'SRS AIRBAG SERVICE URGENT' MESSAGE WHICH I COULDN'T CLEAR FROM THE DASH, NOR COULD THE TOOL FROM AUTOZONE DETECT OR CLEAR VIA THE PLUG TO THE COMPUTER PORT. TODAY, WE LEARNED OUR VOLVO XC90'S YAW RATE SENSOR HAS FAILED. THE ROOT CAUSE WAS WATER LEAKING INTO THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE CAR DUE TO BLOCKED MOONROOF (I.E. SUNROOF) DRAINS, WHICH SHORTED THE YAW RATE SENSOR. THIS IMPAIRED THE ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL AND BRAKES OF OUR VOLVO, PUTTING US AT RISK OF ACCIDENT. RESEARCH SHOWS THIS IS A FREQUENT AND RECURRING PROBLEM KNOWN SINCE AT LEAST 2004. IT HAS CAUSED THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS IN DAMAGE TO NUMEROUS XC90S. VOLVO IS AWARE OF THIS ISSUE UP TO AND INCLUDING THE PRESIDENT OF VOLVO USA. EVEN THOUGH EASY AND INEXPENSIVE REGULAR MAINTENANCE WOULD PREVENT EXPENSIVE DAMAGE, NEITHER THE VOLVO USER MANUAL NOR MAINTENANCE SERVICE OPERATIONS GUIDES MENTION THE NEED. THE DAMAGE WE AND OTHERS HAVE SUFFERED WAS COMPLETELY PREVENTABLE. THE ROOT CAUSE IS A DESIGN DEFECT, WHICH VOLVO SERVICE PROVIDERS REGULARLY CORRECT BY CUTTING THE BOTTOM END OF THE HOSES. A SERVICE PROVIDER IS REPORTED AS SAYING, "THIS IS A BAD DESIGN. WE DON'T KNOW WHY VOLVO DESIGNED IT THIS WAY, SO WE JUST CUT OFF THE BOTTOM TWO INCHES OF THE HOSES." WHILE DRIVING BETWEEN 65 AND 70 MILES ON A MAJOR INTERSTATE MY 2004 VOLVO XC 90 HAS A SEVERE "THUMP" IN THE FRONT END, WHICH IS THEN FOLLOWED BY A VERY BRIEF (SPLIT SECOND) INTERNAL (MEANING ALL DASHBOARD LIGHTS, HI-FI, DOME LIGHTS, RADIO AIR CONDITION, OIL GAGE, FUEL GAGE CLOCK ) POWER FAILURE. WHILE TRYING TO PUSH THE GAS THE CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. AT FIRST I HIT SOMETHING ON THE HIGHWAY. A MINUTE OR TWO LATER THE "THUMP" WAS HARDER AND THE LIGHTS INTERNALLY COMPLETELY WENT OUT, HAZARD LIGHTS COULD NOT BE TURNED ON, BLINKERS COULD NOT BE SWITCHED ON, HI-FI WENT OUT, THE DOOR LOCKS WOULD NOT WORK, THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS WOULD NOT CUT ON OR THE ELECTRIC WINDOWS. I PULLED OVER IMMEDIATELY AND TURNED THE CAR OFF, WAITED 10 MINUTES AND RESTARTED IT. THERE WERE 3 MESSAGES ON THE DASH, THE YELLOW EXCLAMATION POINT DASHBOARD ICON/ALERT LIT UP, A SERVICE MESSAGE FLASHED REFERRING TO THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE FAILURE, THE SRS NEEDED TO BE CHECKED, AND CHECK ENGINE. THE NEXT DAY I TOOK IT TO A VOLVO DEALERSHIP, THEY COULDN'T DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. THEY ASSURED ME THAT THE CAR WAS OK TO DRIVE. FOUR DAYS LATER THE PROBLEM STARTS AGAIN. SO AFTER DOING A LITTLE RESEARCH I FIND OUT THAT THIS IS A COMMON OCCURRENCE ON THE VOLVO XC 90 AND THERE WAS AN INVESTIGATION ON THIS SAME ISSUE IN NOVEMBER 2010 IN WHICH VOLVO IS FULLY AWARE OF AND "ACKNOWLEDGES A PROBLEM AFFECTING SOME SUBJECT VEHICLES INVOLVING WATER SEEPAGE INTO THE PLENUM BOX AREA IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. WHEN THIS OCCURS WATER MAY ENTER INTO THE INTERIOR PASSENGER COMPARTMENT AND TRACK ALONG THE WIRING HARNESS FOR THE CENTRAL ELECTRONIC MODULE, THE DEVICE THAT CONTROLS MANY OF THE VEHICLES ELECTRICAL FUNCTIONS INCLUDING WIPER OPERATION, LIGHTING, AND TRANSMISSION OPERATION. AFTER THE UNCONTROLLED HARD ACCELERATION, I HAD THOUGHTS OF THAT STATE PATROL OFFICER DRIVING THE LEXUS IN CALIFORNIA WHO WAS KILLED ALONG WITH HIS FAMILY WHEN HE COULDN'T CONTROL THE BIZARRE BEHAVIOR OF THE CAR. TURNS OUT IT WAS THE SAME THOUGHTS MY BROTHER HAD. 'AS WE PULLED OVER AND CALL FOR HELP OUR VOLVO DID SOMETHING BIZARRE AGAIN. 'WHILE WAITING FOR HELP AT THE AUTO ZONE, I SEARCHED WHAT THIS ISSUE MIGHT BE. I FOUND A VOLVO FORUM THAT SHOWS MANY PEOPLE THAT HAD SIMILAR, DRAMATIC ISSUES WITH SAME YEAR SAME MODEL VOLVO. 'AFTER RE-CONNECTING THE BATTERY, THE POWER CAME BACK ON OABOUT HOUR LATER THE VOLVO REPEATED A VERY DRAMATIC THUMP-JERK AND THE POWER STARTED TO GO OUT. THE TACK AND SPEEDOMETER STARTED DROPPING - DASH LIGHTS DIMMED AND ALL OF SUDDEN THE POWER CAME BACK - LIGHTS BACK AND GAUGES POPPED BACK UP. OONLY TO BE FOLLOWED BY ANOTHER THUMP ABOUT ONE MINUTE LATER AND THIS TIME THE POWER FAILURE WAS SIMILAR TO ABOVE (NOT SURE ABOUT TAILLIGHTS AS I WAS MOVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND NOT ABOUT TO GET OUT AND CHECK.) 2004 VOLVO XC90. CONSUMER STATES PROBLEM WITH TRANSMISSION *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE WAS JUMPING INTO GEAR OR LUNGING WHEN HE APPLIED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THE CONSUMER STATED THE ORIGINAL TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED AT 53,000 MILES IN 2008. THE DEALER PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC CHECK AND DETERMINED THAT THE FRONT AXLE HAD LOST A PLUG AND THAT THE TRANSMISSION HAD BECOME CONTAMINATED AND THAT WAS THE CAUSE OF THE JUMPING IN THE TRANSMISSION. THE REPAIR OF THE FRONT AXLE AND TRANSMISSION FLUSH WAS APPROVED AT VOLVO'S COST. HOWEVER, DIAGNOSTICS ALSO REVEALED THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *JB

AFTER DRIVING 125 MILES WITHOUT INCIDENT, WE LEFT OUR 2004 VOLVO XC 90 T6 AWD PARKED FOR 4 HOURS BEFORE DRIVING AGAIN. AFTER LESS THAN A HALF MILE AT LOW SPEED, THERE WAS A "THUMP" FROM THE FRONT OF THE CAR, THE WIPERS CYCLED, THE GAUGES ALL WENT BLANK, SOME OF THE WINDOWS STOPPED WORKING, THE A/C WENT OUT (BLOWER STAYED ON). THE CAR STAYED ON, BUT SEEMED "STUCK" IN SECOND GEAR AND THE BRAKES BECAME "SPONGY," BUT OPERABLE. TURN SIGNALS WERE INOPERABLE AND THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT. THE INDICATOR LIGHT ON THE GEAR SHIFT WENT OUT AND THE CENTRAL LOCKING SYSTEM STOPPED FUNCTIONING. WE GOT OUT OF TRAFFIC AND INTO THE SHADE. I CHECKED ALL FUSES AND TRIED TO RESTART THE CAR. IT WOULD RESTART, BUT WITHIN SECONDS THERE WERE MULTIPLE "CLICKS" COMING FROM THE AREA NEAR THE FUSE BOX IN THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT FOLLOWED BY THE ELECTRICAL FAILURES DESCRIBED ABOVE. AFTER LETTING THE CAR SIT FOR A COUPLE OF HOURS WE MOVED IT TO A SECURE LOCATION TWO MILES AWAY. DURING THAT DRIVE ALL OF THE ABOVE PROBLEMS HAPPENED AGAIN, INCLUDING THE ENGINE BEING "STUCK" IN SECOND GEAR. AFTER LETTING THE CAR SIT OVERNIGHT, IT STARTED AND RAN WITHOUT INCIDENT. HOWEVER, THE "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT AND THE "SRS" LIGHT HAVE REMAINED ON. A REPAIR SHOP COULD NOT DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT, THE SAME THINGS HAPPENED TO MY WIFE IN THE SAME CAR. TAKING INTO VOLVO TO FIX FUEL PUMP AGAIN TODAY THAT IS COVERED UNDER THE RECALL BUT JUST GOT IT BACK FROM 2ND TRANSMISSION REPAIR WHERE I HAD TO PAY FOR THE INTERNAL ENGINE LEAKS THAT COULD NOT BE DETECTED THAT IN TURN CONTAMINATED THE 2ND TRANSMISSION. I DO NOT BELIEVE I SHOULD HAVE PAID $1600 IN REPAIRS WHEN IT HAS BEEN SERVICED AND CANNOT DETECT THESE INTERNAL OIL LEAKS FROM THE ENGINE. THIS MAKE AND MODEL YEAR HAS BEEN COSTLY AND DANGEROUS. TRUCK HAS STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF LEFT TURN, ALMOST RESULTING IN HEAD ON COLLISION. THIS TRUCK SEEMS TO FALL UNDER LEMON LAW. WE HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH THIS TRUCK SINCE 2007.IT HAS HAD 2 TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENTS AND NOW 2 FUEL PUMPS,BOTH VOLVO PUMPS. I SHOULD INCUR ZERO COSTS OTHER THAN OIL CHANGES AND GENERAL MAINTENANCE. 1. SINCE DAY 1, THE TRANSMISSION ON MY 2004 VOLVO-XC90 HAS ALWAYS GIVEN ME TROUBLE, IT DOESN'T ENGAGE TROUGH GEAR AS QUICKLY AS IT SHOULD. ON MAY 25TH 2009, THE TRANSMISSION COMPLETELY WENT OUT LEAVING ME IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSECTION WITH CARS BEHIND ME TRAVELING 35 MILES AND ALMOST CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. 2. THE TRANSMISSION HAS NEVER OPERATED PROPERLY SINCE I PURCHASED THE CAR IN APRIL OF 2009. THE SHOP AND EVERY OTHER ONE I CALLED KNEW EXACTLY WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS. THEY SAID THAT THE TRANSMISSION IN THIS MODEL AND YEAR WAS A FAULTY GM TRANSMISSION AND HAVE SEEN MANY IN FOR THIS TYPE OF SERVICE. I DID SOME RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET AND FOUND THAT MANY OWNERS HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM, THE EXACT PROBLEM. I BOUGHT IT FROM AUTOWEST ACURA IN SAN JOSE, I ASK THEM FOR HELP WITH THAT MATTER, (4 TIMES) THEY WERE EVASIVE AND REFUSED TO HELP, OR TO GET TO ANY ARRANGEMENT. THE "TRANSMISSION SERVICE URGENT" LIGHT CAME ON. TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID I NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION. I DISCONNECTED THE BATTERY IN HOPES OF RESETTING THE COMPUTER. ONCE THIS WAS DONE THE CAR STARTED AGAIN. MESSAGES ARE STILL DISPLAYED. WE CONTACTED VOLVO CORPORATE AND HAVE AN APPOINTMENT WITH A LOCAL DEALERSHIP TOMORROW. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE AND IT IS NOT THE FIRST TIME I HAVE SUBMITTED A COMPLAINT FOR THIS SAME TYPE PROBLEM. 2004 XC90T6 HAS FAILED TRANSMISSION AT 82,500 MILES. I FIRST NOTICED PROBLEM WHEN FIRST STARTING FROM STOP. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE AND THEN IT FELT LIKE I HAD BEEN REAR ENDED. PROBLEM PERSISTED AND NOW PROBLEM OCCURS AT FIRST ACCELERATION AND AT FURTHER ATTEMPTS TO INCREASE SPEED THE TRANSMISSION FALLS OUT OF GEAR AND CATCH. THE FAILURE OF THE TRANSMISSION POSES A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY RISK AND APPEARS TO BE A WIDE SPREAD PROBLEM PARTICULARLY WITH THE 2004 XC90 T6. THE LAST TIME IT FAILED I WAS STUCK IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION AND WAS ALMOST STRUCK BROAD SIDE BY AN APPROACHING VEHICLE. THE VOLVO DEALERSHIP ADVISES ME THAT THE ORIGINAL TRANSMISSION IS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH THE T6 ENGINE. REPORTED FAILURES HAVE OCCURRED AS EARLY AS 1,500 MILES AND VOLVO'S CORRECTIVE MEASURES OF REPLACING THE TRANSMISSIONS WITH REMANUFACTURED TRANSMISSIONS DOES NOT APPEAR TO BE CORRECTING THE PROBLEM AS THERE ARE NUMEROUS REPORTS OF REPEAT FAILURES. VOLVO HAS AGREED TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSIONS WITH A REMANUFACTURED TRANSMISSION BUT HAS REFUSED TO PAY FOR LABOR. THE DEALER HAS AGREED TO PAY FOR HALF OF THE LABOR. I HAVE REQUESTED THE DEALER TO RETAIN THE TRANSMISSION AND THE ASSOCIATED PARTS. WE PURCHASED OUR XC90 2005 FROM GENGRAS VOLVO IN MERIDEN, CT ON DEC 24, 2006. IT IS NOW OCT 11, 2007. SINCE WE'VE HAD THE CAR WE'VE PUT AROUND 8,000 MILES ON IT. IT IS NOT OUR PRIMARY VEHICLE AND SITS PARKED IN OUR GARAGE MOST OF THE TIME. ON 10/10/07, UPON LEAVING WORK AND GETTING INTO MY SUV I SAW A RATHER LARGE PUDDLE OF WATER ON THE FLOOR OF THE DRIVER?S SIDE OF MY XC90. THE CAR OBVIOUSLY HAD BEEN PARKED OUTSIDE AND IT WAS RAINING THAT DAY. SINCE WE WERE BRINGING THE CAR INTO STAMFORD VOLVO ON 10/11/07 TO REPLACE THE FRONT HEADLIGHTS - THE SEAL ON BOTH HEADLIGHT WERE CRACKED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED (THESE PARTS WERE UNDER WARRANTY AND I FIGURED IT WAS BEST TO DO THAT), I ALSO REQUESTED STAMFORD CT VOLVO TO LOOK AT THE WATER PROBLEM AS WELL. I AM EXPERIENCING CONTINUING SAFETY PROBLEMS WITH MY VOLVO XC90. THIS VEHICLES ALL WHEEL DRIVE (AWD) SYSTEM IS MALFUNCTIONING WITHOUT WARNING AND AT RANDOM TIMES. THIS RESULTS IN UNPREDICTABLE AND ERRATIC VEHICLE HANDLING WHICH CREATES SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUES TO THE VEHICLES DRIVER AND OCCUPANTS. THIS HAS BEEN OCCURRING FOR AT LEAST ONE YEAR AND WAS CONFIRMED AND DOCUMENTED BY A VOLVO DEALER DURING THE SUMMER OF 2005. I MUST POINT OUT THIS SAFETY PROBLEM INVOLVES AN ACTIVE SYSTEM THAT CANNOT BE CONTROLLED, ADJUSTED OR DISABLED BY THE VEHICLES DRIVER. THIS SAFETY PROBLEM CAUSED AN ACCIDENT DURING THE WINTER OF 2005. AT THAT TIME, THE ALL WHEEL DRIVE SYSTEM FAILED SUDDENLY AND WITHOUT WARNING ON A SNOW COVERED ROAD. THIS CAUSED SUDDEN AND UNCONTROLLED FRONT WHEEL SPIN WHICH LED TO A LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL AND WITH THE VEHICLE SLIDING OFF A ROAD. A TOW TRUCK WAS REQUIRED TO MOVE THE VEHICLE BACK ON THE ROAD. THE VOLVO DEALER THAT CONFIRMED THE PROBLEM HAS MADE SEVERAL FAILED ATTEMPTS TO REPAIR IT. THEY HAVE DOCUMENTED COMMUNICATION PROBLEMS WITHIN THE VEHICLES HIGH SPEED NETWORK AND RELOADED VEHICLE SOFTWARE. THEY HAVE ALSO REPLACED: 1) THE VEHICLES FRONT WHEEL SENSORS, 2) THE MFI MODULE USED FOR VEHICLE DIAGNOSTICS, 3) THE BCM MODULE USED BY THE AWD SYSTEM, AND 4) THE AWD AOC UNIT WITH CLUTCH AND TRANSMISSION. NONE OF THIS HAS RESOLVED THE SAFETY PROBLEMS I AM EXPERIENCING FROM THIS VEHICLE. THIS VOLVO DEALER HAS TOLD ME THE PROBLEM CANNOT BE REPAIRED BECAUSE: 1) THE VEHICLES DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM DOES NOT REPORT ANY DIAGNOSTIC CODES, 2) THEIR OWN TECHNICIANS CANNOT DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM, AND 3) VOLVO TECHNICIANS CANNOT DETERMINE THE PROBLEM. ON AUGUST, 26, 2004 THERE WAS A MAJOR MALFUNCTION IN OUR VOLVO XC90 (2004). WHILE DRIVING WITH 2 SMALL CHILDREN IN CAR SEATS AND 2 ADULTS ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY; SUDDENDLY, THERE WAS NO ACCELERATION IN THE GAS PEDAL AND THE STEARING WHEEL DID NOT FUNCTION. WE MANAGED TO SLOWLY MOVE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD FROM WHAT MOMENTUM WAS LEFT IN THE CAR, AND AVOID AN ACCIDENT. WE WERE OBVIOUSLY VERY SHAKEN UP, AND FIND THIS CAR COMPLETELY UNSAFE. IT HAS BEEN 3 WEEKS NOW GETTING THE RUN AROUND WITH THE CHERRY HILL, NEW JERSEY VOLVO DEALER. THEY SAID "THERE'S NOTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR". THE CAR IS UNSAFE FOR OUR FAMILY, AND PRESENTS A DANGER FOR OTHERS ON THE ROAD. WE ARE AFRAID IT WILL STOP DEAD AGAIN ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY WITH DEATH OR INJURIES OCCURING TO EITHER OURSELVES OR OTHERS. THE DEALER ASKED US WHAT WE WANTED "WE FINALLY SAID, (AFTER THEY SAID THEY'D GET US A NEW SUV AND DID NOT) THAT WE WANT OUR MONEY BACK ($3,000 DEPOSIT) AND WE DON'T WANT THIS CAR THEY SOLD US. TODAY, THEY MADE US TAKE THIS CAR BACK AND THEY ARE REFUSING OUR REQUEST TO REFUND OUR MONEY. ALSO, THE CAR WAS TOWED ON A FLAT BED TRUCK IN TO THE DEALER ON JULY 13TH, 2004 AS THE CAR DID NOT START.. "RELAYS WERE LOOSE IN THE ICM AND CEM ETC.," [WE HAVE THE SERVICE ORDER] ON THIS DAY, THE MESSAGE ON THE CAR SAID SOMETHING TO THE EFFECT "URGENT MALFUNCTION IN SUV AIR BAGS..." AND WE UNLOADED THE FAMILY AND IT WAS TOWED TO THE VOLVO DEALERSHIP. AND THE CAR'S 2 SIDE MIRRORS WORK ONE DAY AND NOT THE NEXT. TOMORROW I TAKE MATTHEW TO HIS FIRST DAY AT PRE-SCHOOL, AND I'M HALF THINKING WHAT IF SOMETHING HAPPENS TO THE CAR WHEN WE'RE DRIVING. IT'S AMAZING TO ME THAT VOLVO CAN LET ME LEAVE THEIR PARKING LOT WITH THIS CAR THIS EVENING, AND THE AREN'T TAKING SAFETY SERIOUSLY AT ALL.
