How to read a Buick Envision VIN — every digit explained
Every Buick Envision carries a unique 17-character VIN stamped at the factory. Each position is a code — together they spell out where, when and how your car was built. Here's exactly what every digit means.
- WMI (1–3) — country & manufacturer. 4T1 = Toyota, built in the USA.
- VDS (4–8) — model line, body style, engine & restraint system.
- Check digit (9) — a math check that proves the VIN is genuine.
- Model year (10) — the year it was built. H = 2017.
- Plant (11) — which factory assembled this Envision.
- Serial (12–17) — the unique sequential production number.
Model-year code (10th digit)
The 10th character is the model year. It cycles through letters and numbers, skipping I, O, Q, U, Z and 0 to avoid confusion:
Where to find your Envision VIN
- Dashboard — driver's side, visible through the windshield from outside.
- Driver's door jamb — on the manufacturer sticker when you open the door.
- Paperwork — vehicle registration, title and insurance card.
- Engine bay & frame — stamped on the firewall or chassis on many models.

Electrical System 60 Read
I had just left the driveway at my in-laws house, which is approx. an hour and 45 minutes from my home. Within moments, randomly, the sun roof popped open, as if someone had hit a remote. It would not close, and after trying for a bit, decided to drive home and we would address it there. When I hit the open road, the roof went the rest of the way open and then about two miles from the house, I starting choking on the smell of burning plastic. I immediately pulled over on to the shoulder of a side road, turning off the car. My husband was in a vehicle behind me and came over and we were both very concerned the vehicle was going to catch on fire. He tried to pull the fuse in the panel, but when we turned the vehicle back on, there was smoke coming from the sunroof motor area, and the smell was atrocious. The inside hood liner was very warm near the rear of the vehicle with the motor. At that point, we decided to call a tow truck, because it was obvious there was an electrical short. Because the sun roof was stuck open, we had to get a car cover to protect it from the rain coming in. The dealership investigated the next day, and confirmed there was an electrical short that was throwing high-voltage power in to the sunroof. It had melted the motor and wires around it, and had we gone any further, the voltage would have caused a more significant fire. They had to do significant repairs, costing $1400, as well as some clean-up of the interior to try and ensure we weren't continuing to breathe burnt-plastic fumes.
Brakes failed while coming to a stop causing me to crash into the back of someone. Also all dash and radio and shifter lights went out and came back on at the same time brakes failed. Brake issue still not fixed by GM Buick.
Computer screen display frequently goes very dim and sometimes completely out several times there has been no display showing when we were backing up plus the warning beeper didn't come on. We have had 2 minor accidents when we were backing up because of the failure of the computer screen and warning beeper. I have complained to our dealership holm automotive in abilene , ks for at least 2 years and they do not seem to think it is a problem. I have many photos and videos plus a handwritten log of this issue. I have also been in contact with buick.
Car has electronic child safety door locks activated when using the hard button that typically locks only windows. Wife took a nap in back seat on lunch break at work, didn't realize window lock button was accidentally engaged, locked with remote from back seat while car was running. Door remote would not allow the back doors and passenger door to remain locked and door handles would not open from inside even when using the remote. She was trapped in the back. With a very bad back and knee it was not easy to climb to front driver side door to unlock from there, the only place this would work. If locking with the remote, unlocking with remote should be possible and was not. Literally trapped in back seat and only way out is to get to the front seat to unlock from there. What if grandma was back there when something happened like car shut off? Very bad situation and a life safety issue. I've never owned a car that had electronic child locks tied to window lock switch. Should not be allowed to be trapped in car. *tr
On [XXX], I started the car. Very loud, cracking noise came from radio. Turned off radio, noise stopped. When I used turn signal, noise came from turn lever. Turned off signal, noise stopped. Put car in park and pushed ignition button to turn off. Noise came thru ignition button. Later restarted the car, noise was gone. Concerned there is a power surge going thru system. Saw same problem for others online at [XXX] . Stated there that replacing amplifier corrects problem. Both dealer and corporate Buick are aware of problem. However, both are refusing to replace part, as car isn't making noise currently. One person on the forum stated he was unable to turn car off when problem occurred on his car. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
While driving the dash and radio randomly turn off. Sometimes staying black for minutes others until you stop the car and walk away for several minutes. Leaving you without a way to tell how fast you are going, or any other safety information, fuel level or more.
The contact owns a 2025 Buick Envision. The contact stated that upon picking up the vehicle from the dealer a day after purchasing the vehicle, while attempting to start the vehicle, the vehicle failed to start, with several unknown warning lights illuminated. The dealer replaced the battery; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, where it was determined that the failure was a parasitic battery drain. The contact was informed that the dealer was unable to verify what was the cause of the parasitic battery drain. The contact was informed that the engineer might need to inspect the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. In addition, the contact stated that the vehicle had been taken back to the dealer several times because of the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, and a case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 2,700.
Description of Safety Defect: While operating the vehicle at approximately 25-30MPH and make a right turn, the vehicle experienced a sudden and total loss of power/engine stall, accompanied by a "Check Engine" light and a "Reduced Engine Power" notification. This resulted in a near-collision on a public roadway. The vehicle's steering and braking response were significantly compromised during this event, creating an immediate life-safety hazard for the driver and passengers. Dealer/Manufacturer Response: The vehicle was recently in the possession of McGovern Buick GMC Westborough for service. Despite the vehicle exhibiting an active Check Engine Light (CEL), the dealership staff pressured the consumer to take delivery of the vehicle and drive it on public roads. The service advisor admitted in writing that the CEL was active but insisted the vehicle was "feel free to drive." Furthermore, the dealership attempted to falsify internal corporate safety notes to claim the consumer "insisted" on taking the vehicle, masking a known mechanical defect. This represents a willful suppression of a safety defect by a franchised dealer, which led directly to a hazardous operating condition. Injuries/Crashes: No crash occurred, but a near-miss was documented. Passenger experienced severe emotional distress due to the sudden loss of vehicle control in traffic.
The brakes engage for no reason when backing in the dark I have a video but it won't upload.
When driving on the freeway at night in intermittently foggy conditions, I attempted to adjust the automatic high-beam controls on the center console screen in the vehicle. During this attempt, as I was selecting to deactivate the auto lighting function, ALL of the vehicle lights shut off at once, and the console and screen-based instrument cluster went completely black. I attempted to stop the vehicle as quickly as possible and struck a small reflector post at the side of the road. The instrument panel and lights restarted, but his incident could have easily resulted in a catastrophic loss of control, endangering myself and others. To my knowledge, no incidents or recalls of this sort have been reported for this model, but a recall for a similar malfunction was issued in late 2023 for some models of the Chevrolet Trax, Buick Envista, and Buick Encore GX. This vehicle has not yet been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives, or others as of yet, but an insurance claim has been issued, so such an inspection may be forthcoming. No warning lamps or warning signals preceded this complete blackout of all the vehicle's lights and the main screen/instrument cluster. This malfunction appeared without warning and, in this case, during extremely dangerous, nighttime driving conditions.

I put the car into park and I exited the vehicle because I forgot to push the stop button. So I reached accross the driver's seat and push the stop button. When I did this the car began to roll back as if it was in neutral. I did not touch the shift knob. It shifted into neutral on its on. The front down was open at the time. The car should not have moved if the front door was open. The car ended up rolling down a small hill and ran over me.
Brakes failed while coming to a stop causing me to crash into the back of someone. Also all dash and radio and shifter lights went out and came back on at the same time brakes failed. Brake issue still not fixed by GM Buick.
While driving for approximately 2 1/2 hours with cruise set at 78. I did need to brake on occasion and then resume speed. For no apparent reason the car suddenly braked. Speed dropped to about 50 and then immediately resumed speed. No one was hurt. Things in the back seat pushed forward. I don’t know if it has anything to do with that incident but from them until I returned home, about 1 hour later my windows were fogging, I turned on the defrost about 3 times.
My 2025 Buick Envision with 10,000 miles on it has squeaky brakes. My previous 2023 Envision had the same problem, Brakes check out ok, but squeak persists.
The brakes engage for no reason when backing in the dark I have a video but it won't upload.
All the above are problems my car is experiencing
The customer service recall caused the battery to drain in which caused all electrical functions to malfunction. My breaks locked up while I was driving. My abs light came on, transmission light, collision, check engine, and steering wheel light came on. It was multiple incidents, but with my breaks locking up is the approximate date I put in statement. I was driving in a parking lot.
The contact owns a 2023 Buick Envision. The contact stated that while driving approximately 15 MPH and attempting to stop the vehicle, the brakes failed to immediately activate while depressing the brake pedal. The contact attempted to steer the vehicle to prevent crashing into the vehicle in front and became aware that the vehicle had lost power steering functionality. The contact had to depress the brake pedal to the floorboard for the vehicle to come to a stop. The contact stated that several unknown warning lights were illuminated. The contact turned off and restarted the vehicle to continue driving. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the brake module had failed; however, the dealer was unable to determine the cause of the steering failure. The contact stated that the brake module had been replaced. Approximately one month later the failure recurred while driving approximately 25-30 MPH, the failures reoccurred while decelerating a stop light. The contact depressed the brake pedal to the floorboard to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was returned to the dealer and the vehicle was diagnosed with instrument cluster failure. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 1,500.
2023 Buick Envision. Brakes failed. This was a new car driven 1k miles. There was no warning notification, no alert and no dashboard lights prior to this incident. Of course I had expected the normal brake resistance when I stepped on the pedal. Instead, my foot sunk closer to the floor. I pressed the pedal as hard as I could a few times until it slowed to a stop. I do not drive fast so this was to my advantage. I was later told that the Allstate Milewise device that I had been using was not recommended but in this case it was not a factor. The service manager shared documentation that there was potential system conflicts with this. This was not disclosed to me with my 2020 Envision. Therefore, I continued to use it in the 2023 vehicle. I forwarded the information to Allstate, so they could investigate further. I received call back saying to return the device and find alternative insurance options. When I was told to pick up my car, I asked what was found to cause the brake failure and to highlight the fix in the receipt. A reset of the software was the final fix: LOOKS LIKE ALL MODULES ON CAN BUS 2 LOST BRAKE CONTROL MODULE TESTED CHARGING SYSTEM WITH THE DCBS AND PASSED PERFORMED GLOBAL RESET SCANNED ALL MODULES DID FIND UPDATE FOR THE SERIAL DATA GATEWAY UPDATE MODULE 45YY212842554” I was told that until this happens again that is all they can do.
I had the brake fail twice in the past 2 months while driving the vehicle and was not able to stop it. I kept pushing on the break pedal but vehicle wouldn't slow down. I was only able to stop the vehicle by shifting the gear to neutral and letting the car come to stop on its own. While driving along, multiple signs such as malfunction indicator light, brake light, ABS light, traction control, electronic stability control, Forward collision system failure etc lit up on the dashboard and I could no longer slow the vehicle down using the brake pedal. The image of the dashboard with all the lit up signs is attached for your reference. Once the vehicle came to stop, I turned it off and waited to catch my breath. When I turned the vehicle back on, most lights were off but malfunction indicator light was stayed on. However, brake started working. I narrowly avoided hitting a car in front of me on the highway because I couldn't slow down the vehicle. I would have hit the vehicle in front of me if it had slowed down. It put my life along with of those around me on the freeway in danger and it could have turned out a lot worse. I am taking the vehicle to the dealership tomorrow morning. Prior to the brake fail, there were no warning lights, messages, or other symptoms of the problem. The warning lights only came on while I was driving and the brake was no longer working.

Same as in the other two complaints. At one year and approximately 5000 miles I personally did the first oil change. Car was approximately 3 quarts low on oil after draining the oil for the oil change. Filled up to manufacturers recommendation. Two months later and approximately 1000 miles on the car, the car was 1 quart low. GM has a bulletin on this very issue bulletin number 01–0 6–0 1–011N. Started oil consumption test through the dealer. Dealer stated the first remedy is replacement of a valve, followed by another consumption test. Next option is replacing the engine.
The vehicle was taken in for the oil level not registering on the dip stick 5235 miles on the odometer, they said it was 2 quart oils low. They said they would do an oil consumption test and to bringv it back in 2000 miles. We took it back with an odometer reading of 7451 and it was again 2 quarts oils low. There is an oil consumption issue on this vehicle.
Prior to the first oil change which is recommended at 7500 miles, I check the oil and there was NO oil present on the dip stick...none, not a drop. I had to add 1 3/4 quarts to get it in the accepted range. We took the car for its normal 7500 mile oil change and informed the dealer, upon inspection and oil change they said nothing was wrong with the car. About 2000k miles after that oil change I checked the oil again and again it was well over a quart and 1/2 low. I added enough oil to get the oil level into the accepted range. I made an appointment with the dealer and they looked at the car and said it was 3/4 of a quart low upon arrival and want me to start an oil consumption study. My concern is if this car is using that much oil, its a matter of time before engine failure and what if this happens at speed or when I am on the expressway, it feels like a safety concern to me.
While driving in traffic, after changing lanes, the vehicle experienced a complete electrical shutdown without warning. The engine shut off, the dashboard went completely black, and hazard lights were not functional. There were no warning lights, messages, or audible alerts prior to the failure. The vehicle was in active traffic and, stopped without power steering or brake assist. After opening the hood, multiple wiring harnesses and a loose battery cable were visually observed. When wiring was physically moved, electrical power was immediately restored. Upon restart, the vehicle hesitated to start and then displayed messages instructing the driver to open and close the driver and passenger windows, indicating a full system reset due to power loss. We were able to return home safely. Parked the car, and obtained a rental. The vehicle had been serviced by the Buick dealership where the car was purchased, three days earlier. Two days after the incident, I was able to speak to someone at the dealership, who stated they may have bumped something. The vehicle was towed to the dealership, and assessed. The dealership later documented a loose battery cable and promised to replace a fatigued clip, but denied responsibility for the incident. I contacted the manufacturer, and was referred back to the dealership. The vehicle has only been inspected by the dealership. This incident created a serious safety risk, to our lives, as well as our fellow drivers' lives, as the vehicle lost all electrical power, including required safety lighting, while in traffic, without warning. The vehicle is available for inspection, upon request.
When letting off the accelerator to slow coming to a stop I would press the brake pedal. but the motor would increase RPMs and I had to use both feet to stop the vehicle. Then I had to put the car in neutral and the RPMs would increase even though I was at a stop and then I had to put it in Park before the RPMs would drop. I removed the driver's floor mat encase it was effecting the accelerator. The vehicle didn't act this violent but it failed to decelerate several times before I could get it to my local dealer.
The contact owns a 2023 Buick Envision. The contact stated while driving approximately 60 MPH, the vehicle lost motive power, decelerated, and no longer accelerated as needed. After drifting to the side roadway, the contact discovered that the check engine warning light was illuminated, and the transmission had erroneously shifted into neutral. The vehicle was later taken to the local dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the fuel pump module was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was not yet notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 3,130.
The contact owns a 2022 Buick Envision. The contact stated that while driving approximately 40 MPH and coming to a red light, the brake pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle failed to stop immediately. The contact shifted to neutral before the vehicle came to a complete stop. The engine continued to rev abnormally as if the vehicle was accelerating. After several minutes, the engine stopped revving excessively, and the contact was able to continue driving. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact stated that excessive force was needed to depress the brake pedal. The contact stated that the failure was intermittent. The vehicle was taken to the dealer however, the dealer was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 21,000.
On 10/12/22 I was stopped at a red light. I was the first person in line at the red light, right at the entrance to the NYS Thruway. When the light turned green, my car locked up and I was unable to proceed. People were honking at me but the car would not go out of park. Some road construction workers ran over to the car to see if they could push it out of traffic. I kept trying to turn it off and restart it. Finally, after many attempts it finally went into drive. The light was now red again, but the construction workers, held up oncoming traffic and told me to just go. I was on the same road as the the dealership where I leased it, so I called them, told them what happened and that I was on my way there. I had also received a message from Buick at the same time, saying it detected an engine/transmission problem with my car. The dealership told me not to bring it in, but I took it there anyway. I had lost my husband a month earlier, so I had no one to call at home to come get me. They kept it for a week, and said they couldn't find anything wrong, so had me pick the car up. They also said that someone had been driving it everyday, checking it, but you can see from the incident report, that they drove it a total of 3 miles. also, on the report that they put that I had said the check engine light was on. That is not true. I never told them that.

11/25/25 driving at a slow speed, the transmision was in drive. The transmission slipped out of drive into neutral. The car stop. I put the car in drive and continued to the final destination. 3 days later it happened again. Transmition went from drive to 1 st gear. I stopped the car. I put the car in drive. I continued to final destination. I feel very lucky this all happened when the car was going 5-10 mph.
On 12/18/2025 at approximately 5:00 pm, during rush hour traffic, while driving 60 mph on the expressway, my car automatically downshifted to drive1, the engine revved up significantly and the car reduced power and had sluggish acceleration. It did not come out of Drive 1 until I was able to get off the expressway and put the car in park. The car is available for inspection upon request. I was panicking in heavy traffic and cars were honking at me as I could not speed up. I took my car to the dealer but he could not reproduce the exact problem. The vehicle or component has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance or representatives. There were not any warnings or messages prior to the symptoms. This is the second time this has happened within the eight months that I have leased the car.

The transmission on the vehicle failed. It is available for inspection. The vehicle began jolting, when accelerating from a stop, or when slowing to a stop. Seemed to be slipping out of gear while driving. We reported the incident to the dealership. They said they found nothing wrong. The issue continued, and the check engine light came on, so we returned to the dealer again. This time they found it needed the transmission to be rebuilt. They have had the car at the service center for 5 months. The parts they need are no longer available.

The contact owns a 2023 Buick Envision. The contact stated while parking the vehicle, the vehicle launched forward without warning, causing the vehicle to drive over the curb. The contact desperately depressed on the brake pedal and the vehicle came to a complete stop, causing damages to the front bumper and underneath the vehicle. The contact was able to park the vehicle. The vehicle was not diagnosed. The dealer was contacted, and the dealer referred the contact to the manufacturer for assistance. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 760.
The OnStar Telematics Module has malfunctioned and is causing SAFETY FEATURES to malfunction. It is causing the following to occur to the vehicle: 1. The faulty module is causing the car to shut OFF UNEXPECTEDLY MID DRIVE. Losing control of the vehicle instantly. No steering, no gas, no brake, no gear change. THIS can cause a CATASTROPHIC ACCIDENT at higher speeds on the highways. The battery is completely drained when technicians inspect it but the alternator is working properly. 2. Causes the vehicle’s safety features to malfunction and give alerts such as “Service Driver Assist”, “Lane Departure Unavailable”, “Forward Collision Assist Unavailable”, “Steering Control Unavailable Soon”. 3. Causes GPS, WiFi, and location system to fail. 4. OnStar safety button do not work 5. Causes the engine light to go on and off and causes the cars idling to run erratically. 6. The module causes NEW batteries to drain quickly, less than a year after purchase. I have had the car shut off on me twice MID DRIVE, I was lucky to be in areas of less concern and harm. I’ve had to purchase two batteries since the module malfunctioned. Less than a year apart. The dealership confirmed it was the Telematics Module January 2025. They have confirmed the part is on backorder and not covered under warranty. NO INDICATORS were given when the car shut off BOTH times that I may have noticed or heard.
The Buick died due to a fuel pump control module. This happened in a busy intersection. We were unable to force car into neutral so it could be pushed out of traffic . Ninth minutes later a tow truck showed up and had to drag car onto roll back. We have exhausted attempts with GM and its dealers and no answers. I also have a 2021 Gmc pickup with push button start and same problem. This is a major safety problem and a danger to driver and passenger .
New Buick Envision 2022 has ongoing engine and powertrain issues. Vehicle has been returned to the dealer service department for squeaking sounds coming from the engine when manually turning car off, coolant smell coming from engine and loud whistling sound when accelerating in speed. Symptoms occur when engine is warmed up and driven for a period of time. Since purchasing the vehicle on October 15, 2022, it has been in service for approximately 72 days - with stated repairs, per the dealer - turbo hose replacement followed by the replacement of the turbo. Picked car up on February 1, 2023 after being in service for 54 days - took the vehicle 90 miles out of town and the engine squeaking/squealing sounds are just as prevalent and consistent, and can still smell coolant. The vehicle engine issues are a safety issue. No consumer should have to endure the immeasureable stress and inconvenience of buying a brand new vehicle with these maintenance issues, let alone any issues at all. The car now has approximately 2700 milles on it.

The contact owns a 2022 Buick Envision. The contact stated while driving 35 MPH and depressing the brake pedal, the vehicle failed to respond. The message "No Lane Assist - Caution" was displayed. The contact pumped the brake pedal until the vehicle responded. The contact was able to pull into a parking lot. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where the contact was informed that the failure was related to the brake system computer chip. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, where the same repair was performed. Additionally, the contact stated while starting the vehicle, the messages indicating transmission and steering failures were displayed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the contact was informed that the failure could be related to the body control module (BCM). The vehicle was being diagnosed. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 11,000.

Every time the car auto stops and turns back on the steering locks. So when the car starts you can’t turn the wheel. Also, while driving the car will lock and radio will shut off/ turn on. This happens like 1 to 2x a week. It is available for inspection. It could be very dangerous for me and others for needing to turning into places or even turning down the road. It hasn’t been confirmed or inspected, yet. There is only one warning lamp that flashes on for a split second, it’s no t/c. It just started flashing 3/26/23 not prior to incidents.
My Buick Envision started to occasionally create notable vibration in the front and traveling into the steering column. I brought the car to a GMC Buick dealership in Amite, LA(4/13/21) it was there for 3 days. The problem couldn't be duplicated. Next the car was brought to Royal Buick, Baton Rouge, LA(10/26-11/6/21.Having trouble controlling the car on each occurs.
While we were merging onto the highway, the steering wheel locked! I was going 50 MPH and I couldn't move the steering wheel left or right. We almost got into an accident, but I pulled my hardest on the wheel and was able to pull over. I shut off the car and turned it back on and it was OK, but under the wrong circumstances, this could've ended up real bad. Are there similar complaints on this vehicle?
Loss of power steering for @ 5 minutes until stopped at red light, turned off the engine and turned it back on, it was working. However, just drove 2 minutes to employment parking lot. Not enough time to see if it malfunctioning, will notice driving back home.
Power steering loss. While driving the electronic power steering quit, and I received warnings that the power steering was not working. I also got errors on the advance headlights not working and that the all wheel drive was disable. Drove home with no power steering and checked the power fuses with a volt meter. No failures found. Restarted the car and there was no more problems. The online diagnostic indicated no failures recorded.

The contact owns a 2021 Buick Envision. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle, the contact heard a popping sound coming from the front end of the vehicle, and the vehicle became difficult to steer. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who determined that the front driver’s and passenger’s side ball joints, and control arms were faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure reoccurred, and the control arms were replaced a second time. Also, while driving the odor of fuel was present inside the cabin of the vehicle and the vehicle hesitated and jerked while depressing the accelerator pedal. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who diagnosed that the fuel injector and fuel sensor were faulty. The fuel injector and fuel sensor were replaced but the failure persisted. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 24,000.
I bought this vehicle used to take on a trip with my family. Drove it for a week and seemed to be fine. Got on the other side of Chicago, on interstate 80 (70mph) and the engine started shaking like an earthquake. Had to slow down fast and cross traffic to pull over. As soon as I pulled of the road it stopped, so I restarted. This happened 6 times on way to my destination, with one time in pretty heavy traffic and almost got hit by an 18-wheeler. I took it to a good service center when I got to my destination and he read the Service bulletin 22-NA-211 on this issue and fixed it. Had a safe trip home. From what I understand, the hydraulic mounts leaked and they had to replace bushings. It seems to be a common problem for the 2019 model.
The problem started in the past year (2024-2025) with severe shuddering while driving over 35-40 mph and going over a patched pothole or other irregularity in the road. The shuddering would continue until I slowed to stop. It is quite alarming & feels like the car is falling apart and is more difficult to manuever when this occurs. Once I slow to a stop, the shuddering stops and I am able to proceed once again. I mentioned it earlier in the year (2025) when I went for an oil change but dealer was not aware of what it could be. I look for potential road irregularities but sometimes they are unavoidable as it has occurred again recently.
Severe shuddering while driving. Sometimes on a smooth roadway and sometimes when crossing over a patched pothole. Shuddering continued until slowed to stop. When starting to go again car did not shudder until next incident.
UNKNOWN- when driving onto a rough road my front end will shake violently, even the steering wheel shakes. Sometimes it will go on for about 1 minute + or -

Tl* the contact owns a 2018 buick envision. The contact stated that the vehicle vibrated when driving at 36 to 40 mph and caused the steering wheel to vibrate. The contact stated that when the speed was increased to 41 mph, the vibration stopped. The vehicle was taken to paul masse buick gmc south (2909 tower hill road, saunderstown, ri 02874, phone (401) 515-3737). The dealer was able to duplicate the failure. The manufacturer was contacted and advised the contact that there was not a fix for the vibrating failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted. The failure mileage was 400.
1 month old it developed a vibration/shimmy in the steering and felt on the floor of the care that could be felt by driver and passenger. Shimmy started when accelerating and turning and progressed to also when acceleration when driving straight ahead. It is now 9 months old and i can feel while driving on the highway at higher speeds. Dealer contacted buick for advice since they were unsure what was causing the vibration, told to replace front axil but was no better. Continued to request repair but dealership and buick, stated cause of problem unkown and no fix is in development. Told it was a "characteristic of the vehicle": the vibration-shimmy is getting worse and i am fearful of a catastrophic failure of whatever part/parts are faulty. Faulty parts or design could cause a serious accident when traveling at high speed or when the car is in motion at any speed. Additional documentation available but unable to upload will supply if needed.

Parked a running vehicle, 2023 Buick Envision with 52000 miles and when I went to start the car again, it would not run; cranked OK but would not start, just "stumbled" for a few seconds and then nothing. Tried several times thereafter to start to no avail. Called for a tow and learned that due to a not running vehicle that has electronic transmission, could not put it in neutral to allow a simple tow; tow driver had to put dolly on both front wheels and rear to tow to GM dealer. Original decision by service rep was that the fault was due to a bad fuel pump module. I called GM for any recall on this model and device only to hear that it was not a problem for them to present a recall. I am not the first customer that has had this problem according to your website and number of complaints with the same make, year, and model of Buick.
All the above are problems my car is experiencing
I started the car. Backed out of my driveway. Put into drive. The car stalled I shifted to park tried to restart. It wouldn’t. At that point I tried to put car into neutral I couldn’t. There is no way to shift this car into neutral. ( I checked with service department at gmdealer). This alone is dangerous the car cannot be moved. Anyway the car was towed to a dealer who fixed it. It was th fuel pump power module. The dealer and tow truck driver both told me this happens at least 5 times a week. There is no recall on this. My biggest concern is I could be on any road going high speeds and this part can fail. This is a death trap. There was no warning lights or messages to be found. PLEASE TAKE THIS MATTER SERIOUSLY SOMEONE IS GONNA DIE.
Purchased new in March 2023 -Repair Safety Restraint System failed (alert signal) failed late June 2023. Inspected at the Dealer/mechanic on July 11 2023, and it was determined the Safety Restraint System panel was defective. Part ordered late June early July 2023 (estimate). Part was backordered and not available for installation August 31 2023. Service department failed to notify me that the part was in. I had to call them. Appointment was set for Replacement part to be installed on September 6 2023. In the meantime a new alert appeared (Check engine light). I notified the service department of the new issue (check engine ) and the need for them to inspect that. The vehicle was due for an oil change and rotation as well. Service department determined that the engine failure resulting in the (check engine light) was due to a defective fuel pump/injection system. Part ordered and an appointment was set. Replacement part was installed on September 12 2023. Literally three days later, after the fuel pump/injection was replaced, another alert appeared (check engine light). September 15, 2023. This particular vehicle has major issues and I am contacting the dealer for a complete buy back and/or replacement vehicle. My safety and the safety of my passengers was at risk from the first minute the restraint system failure signaled. The part was backordered for a long while. I had no other form of transportation. The dealership did not offer a loaner vehicle or to pay for a rental car, nothing. In fact they did not seem concerned at all. Not concerned enough for the service department to place follow up phone calls to me with status updates over the many weeks I waited for the part to arrive. The car obviously has electrical and fuel injection issues straight from the manufacturing floor (which according to reports Buick is aware of). Ref. Edmunds and NHTSA reports. There are a host of reasons why my safety was at risk during the few mo of ownership.
Fuel pump and fuel control module failed. Car will not stay running. Currently at GM dealership. Confirmed and repair cost about $500. No warning lights.
I think it may be either fuel propulsion system or it maybe something electrical. I don’t really know. It is available for inspection at this time as it has been at the car dealer repair shop for about a month. My safety is put at risk because about seven or eight out of 10 times that I attempt to start the vehicle, it will turn over by pushing the button, but will not start. I work until past dark many nights and my vehicle not starting is a big safety issue. The dealer said they reproduced it, but they have not been able to reproduce it again. Again, when I have it, it happens more than half the time. The dealer tells me they are communicating with the Buick engineers as the computer does not show any issues. They have so far not being able to determine the problem. there were no warning lamps or anything like that. It started happening occasionally when it was under warranty, I took it in twice to the dealer repair shop and they both said they could not reproduce the issue at that time. This is the third time I have brought it in and it is just past the end of my warranty.
Vehicle engine died in the middle of the road. Would turn over but not start. Seemed like fuel system stopped working
Not safety, but GM recalled 2021Trailblazers to replace Evap Purge Pumps on vehicles showing check engine light resulting in bad purge pump diagnosis. Why only Trailblazers? I recently had to replace one on my 2021Envision at 37,588 miles after my check engine light came on. Fortunately I bought the extended insurance when I purchased my new vehicle and only paid the $100 deductible. Otherwise it would have cost me $404. If they knew of problems for that year, why not send out letters to other owners of GM vehicles? Thank you. My vehicle's motor stopped without any warning in the middle lane of a busy freeway. I put the emergency flashers on but when I tried to restart the motor it overrode the flashers, causing a semi truck to just miss hitting me. The transmission went into Park mode and since this car is electronic shifting it would not let me put it in to neutral when the motor is not running . People stopped to help me push the car off the road but we could not get it into neutral. Very DANGEROUS situation to be stuck in a center lane on a busy freeway. ODOT and state police that stopped to help me said that they have never seen anything like this. Towed the car to a Buick-GNC dealer where they have had it for over 2 weeks now. They say that the fuel pump control module failed and they are on back order. My car has 11,200 miles on it.
Driving at 45 mph the vehicle stopped running in traffic. Able to get off road and vehicle would not start. Engine turned over but did not fire. Waited about 10 min. while on phone with dealer and tried again. It started. Able to drive approx. 2 miles to dealer. Dealer says Fuel pump control module is bad. This is a dangerous situation.
Exterior Lighting 12 Read
Purchase the vehicle new with fifteen miles in June 2022, 11/3/2022 Service Instrument Cluster failure happened during a vehicle software update in November 2022. 11/7/2022 Took the vehicle to a GM Dealer they performed a software update that was to correct the problem. However, a day later the Service Instrument Cluster light came on. parts for this are on back order. 8/04/2022 When driving, the gears are not shifting correctly; also, while driving, the RPM jump up, When I speed up to move over to the next lane or pass, the vehicle hesitated, the engine would accelerate, up, and the vehicle started moving slowly. I also notice in this new vehicle that when I turn off the car, there is a loud noise like knocking coming from the front of the vehicle that lasts for a few minutes after the car is off. When program the memory seat seems to mix up drivers 1 and 2 must reprogram several times and it still doing the same thing. When I pruchased the car I was told the chip would be in between September and October and would be considered a recall having them put in. now it indefinite with no time frame of when the chip will be available. The purchased price and paid for this car included heated seats front and back. Paid for items not equipped on the car.
Interior light keep coming on while driving when I turn it off it comes back on
The contact owns a 2017 Buick Envision. The contact stated while driving 45-50 mph, a week after purchasing the vehicle, she noticed that the headlights were significantly dim. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The contact stated that the failure recurred while driving. The dealer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact a diagnostic test was needed to determine the cause of the failure. The contact stated that she contacted a second dealer, Bell and Bell Buick GMC Trucks (2491 Hwy 9 E, Little River, SC 29566), and was informed that the vehicle needed to be diagnosed. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 20,000.
Dash lights go out when you are in a shady area. Stay out way to long. No way to adjust to make them bright. Collision alert goes off when you are not near hitting anything. Clock went from est to west coast time. Car makes a knocking sound in the rear end. Also makes a scrapping sound. Doesn't matter if your going up hill, downhill, left or right. Never know when it will do it. Always when the speed is between 45 & 55 mph. This is the second buick envision that was repurchased. Same issue with the first one. Worked on many times by garage & even a rep sent from buick. The problem could not be fixed. This was 18 months of issues to get a resolution. Happy that i have a chevy equinox now.
Car makes a scrapping sound. Spent 32 days, then 22 days at the garage. At the 32 days torque tube to drive shaft changed. Noise came back. At 22 days buick sent a field rep. To work on envision. Invoice said they loosened & retorque the frame that attaches the rear differential to the unit body of the car. With my case buick called & told me the garage changed a carrier bearing. Asked the garage why they said that. Was told they had to put something down to get paid. Buick ended up doing a repurchase. Now we have the same noise in the replacement buick envision 2017. Another issue with this suv is the dash lights. It's sunny out & you get in a shaded area & they go out. Dash is so dim sometimes you can't see your speed or your gages plus radio. There is a wheel to brighten or dim the lights. You roll the wheel up to have a bright setting & it rolls back, like it's spring loaded. July 14, 2017 was the first trip of many to the garage. The noise is sporadic. It doesn't matter if you are going uphill, down hill, left or right. The garage know how to make the noise. They drive 50 -55 mph & drop the car in low. This puts the car in 6th gear. We don't do that. It makes the noise. Was shocked that they figured our how to make the scrapping sound.
The headlights on this vehicle are mostly inadequate. They fail to provide decent lighting beyond a short distance in front of the vehicle. The fog lights improve the situation, but when using high beams you'd have better luck seeing ahead by putting a flashlight out the window. My 2017 encore with the pan reflective halogen lights are much more effective than these more expensive "terminator" style headlights. (the lights look like terminator eyes). This presents a major safety concern because you cannot see far enough in front of you to see what is ahead - and high beams are worse than low beams with fog lights.
The interior lighting for the dash/radio/backup camera/nav screen are all dimmed prematurely in the evening. You'll enter a shady area and while still very bright outside, the screen dims and all of the dash lights dim to the point of being unusable - almost non-existent. Safety issue on backup camera, or if trying to view nav screen and next turns, you are driving blind because the screen is too dark to see anything. Dealer claimed to have brightened the screen, but that simply didn't do anything. Problem still apparent. Problem is that the dimming sensor is too quick to switch to night mode, and night mode is okay if it is dark outside, it is too dim when it is anything but completely dark. And sadly, the sensor doesn't seem to know this.
Tl* the contact owns a 2017 buick envision. The contact stated that the headlights failed to illuminate up to standards. The local dealer (todd wenzel buick gmc of grand rapids, 2727 28th st se, grand rapids, mi, 49512) was made aware of the failure; however, no additional assistance was offered. The manufacturer was also contacted and stated that there was no failure. Additional assistance was not offered. The failure mileage was approximately 20.
The headlight illumination on the 2017 buick envision or inadequate. They are dim and lack distance projection even on bright. We can barely see to get up and down the hill of our driveway. We do not drive at night unless we know the road well. The headlights should be recalled because they will cause accidents and there will be lawsuits.

Can a Buick Envision tow? Towing & payload
As an SUV, the Buick Envision is built to tow and haul. The exact maximum towing capacity and payload depend on the engine, drivetrain and whether it has the factory tow package.
What sets your Envision's tow & payload rating:
- Engine — a larger or turbocharged engine tows more than the base unit.
- Drivetrain & axle — 4WD/AWD and the axle ratio shift the rating.
- Tow package — the factory towing package (hitch, wiring, transmission cooler) raises the max.
- Payload & GVWR — GVWR caps the combined load; more passengers and cargo lower how much you can tow.
