WHEN WE ACQUIRED OUR 1998 CHRYSLER SEBRING JUNE 2010, BOTH OUTSIDE DOOR HANDLES WERE BROKEN. WE COULD ONLY OPEN THE DOOR THROUGH AN OPEN WINDOW. THE DEALER WANTED $500 TO INSTALL THEM. IN APRIL 2012, THE PASSENGER HANDLE BROKE AGAIN. NOW, JUNE 2012, THE DRIVER HANDLE BROKE AGAIN. THE PARTS INSTALLED TWO YEARS AGO HAVE BOTH BROKEN AGAIN. THESE PARTS ARE PLASTIC AND APPARENTLY DO NOT LAST VERY LONG. IS THERE A RECALL? WHAT DO WE DO? *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1998 CHRYSLER SEBRING. WHILE DRIVING 10 MPH IN THE TURN LANE, THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE WAS STRUCK BY ANOTHER VEHICLE CROSSING IN THE WRONG LANE. THE PASSENGER SIDE, FRONT FENDER, AND ALIGNMENT WERE SEVERELY DAMAGED ON THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE. IN ADDITION, THE TRUNK WOULD NOT OPEN, THE DOORS WERE NOT INSTALLED CORRECTLY, AND OIL WAS LEAKING FROM HOLES IN THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN INSPECTED BY FIVE BODY SHOPS AND THE DEALER. THERE WERE NO INJURIES, BUT A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT HAS PICTURES OF THE DAMAGE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 89,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 100,000. I BOUGHT A USED CAR FROM A LICENSED INSPECTION STATION AND USED CAR DEALER 28 DAYS AFTER I BOUGHT THE CAR I FOUND OUT THE FRAME WAS ROTTED AND IT SHOULD HAVE NEVER PASSED INSPECTION THE PLACE I BOUGHT THE CAR INSPECTED IT WHEN I TOLD THE DEALER ABOUT IT HE REFUSED TO REFUND MY MONEY OR RETURN MY CALLS I DON'T BELIEVE THAT A USED CAR DEALER LIKE THIS SHOULD BE IN BUSINESS AND WOULD LIKE SOMETHING DONE THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED INJURIES TO MY FAMILY. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THE LOWER BALL JOINT AND AXLE FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE LOWER ARM CONTROL, LOWER BALL JOINT, TIE ROD, AND AXLE FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. UPON ATTEMPTING TO START THE CAR, I HAD TO PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL OR JIGGLE THE GEAR IN PARK IN ORDER TO START THE CAR. I REPLACED THE STARTER THINKING THAT WAS WHY THE CAR WOULD NOT START. I WAS INFORMED BY SEVERAL AUTO PART STORES THAT I WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE THE NEUTRAL SAFETY SWITCH, HAD THAT REPLACED AND THE CAR STILL WOULD NOT START. I HAD MY CAR TOWED TO GANLEY DODGE TO HAVE THEM PUT THE TRANSMISSION BACK INTO MY CAR, WHICH COST ME $70 PLUS $180 DIAGNOSTIC. THE GANLEY DODGE GAVE ME A QUOTE OF $3500 FOR A NEW TRANSMISSION. THAT WAS NOT IN MY BUDGET, I THEN HAD MY CAR TOWED BY TRANSMISSION WORLD TO THEIR SHOP, I EXPLAINED TO THEM THE PROBLEMS I WAS HAVING WITH MY CAR, PRIOR TO THIS I DIDN'T HAVE ANY PROBLEMS WITH THE TRANSMISSION. IT TOOK TRANSMISSION WORLD A WEEK BEFORE THEY COULD GET THE TRANSMISSION OUT OF THE CAR, TO HAVE THE TRANSMISSION TAKEN OUT AND TAKEN APART TO FIND OUT WHAT WAS WRONG IT COST ME $2,037.00 FOR A 3 YEAR WARRANTY ON A NEW TRANSMISSION. *TR

BEGAN HEARING A LIGHT VIBRATION IN THE SEATS OF MY VEHICLE AS I WAS DRIVING. I DROVE APPROX. 90 MILES ON IT WHEN PART OF THE TIRE TREAD OF MY DRIVER'S SIDE REAR WHEEL BEGAN PEELING OFF. IT IS A COOPER COBRA 91T P215/55R16 M45 RADIAL GT THAT I PURCHASED APPROX. AT MOST 12,000 MILES AGO. I BOUGHT THESE TWO REAR TIRES FOR MY 1998 CHRYSLER SEBRING CONVERTIBLE. MY FRONT TIRES I PURCHASED ABOUT 3 MONTHS AGO BUT GOT A DIFFERENT BRAND. I PULLED OVER ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AS SOON AS IT HAPPENED AND CHANGED THE TIRE WITH MY MINITATURE SPARE TIRE. THIS ALL HAPPENED TODAY.....NO ACCIDENTS/NO INJURIES...THE TIRE IS STILL INFLATED..IT IS JUST MISSING THE OUTER AND A COUPLE OF INNER LAYERS OF THREAD WITH NUMEROUS WIRES PROTRACTING OUT. I PURCHASED PRECEPT TOURING TIRES AT DISCOUNT TIRE IN JULY. I HAVE HAD TO HAVE 10 OF THEM REPLACED SINCE THAT TIME. THEY ARE TERRIBLE TIRES AND I HAVE WASTED NOT ONLY A CONSIDERABLE AMOUNT OF MONEY BUT TIME AS WELL. EVERY LAST ONE OF THEM HAS A BAD SPOT IN IT--THEY HAVE ALL VIBRATED--AND MY CAR HAS PERFECT ALIGNMENT. I EVEN HAD EVERYTHING CHECKED OUT BY MY OWN MECHANIC AFTER SEVERAL TRIPS TO DISCOUNT. MY MECHANIC SAID HE REFUSES TO SELL GOODYEAR BECAUSE THEY HAVE HAD SO MANY PROBLEMS WITH THE TIRES. A MECHANIC FROM SAM'S CLUB SAID THE SAME THING--DON'T BUY GOODYEAR. I ONLY WISH I HAD KNOWN THIS BEFORE I PURCHASED THE TIRES; THE CONSUMER PRODUCTS WEBSITES DON'T HAVE THIS INFORMATION...YET. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1998 CHRYSLER SEBRING. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH, THE CONTACT NOTICED SMOKE ESCAPING FROM UNDER THE HOOD OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT PULLED OVER AND THEN NOTICED FLUID LEAKING FROM UNDER THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE TECHNICIANS STATED THAT THREE OF THE FREEZE PLUGS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE THEY WERE EXTREMELY CORRODED. THE PAINT IS DISAPPEARING ON THE SPOILER, TRUNK, TOP, QUARER-PANEL AND NOW THE HOOD OF MY BLACK 1998 SEBRING. MIRRORS ARE DULLING. DEALERSHIP OFFERED TO PAY $600 AFTER WE HAVE THE CAR PAINTED AND TAKE IT BACK TO THEM. THIS WILL NOT COVER THE EXPENSE OF A QUALITY PAINT JOB (THAT WE PAID FOR WHEN WE BOUGHT THE CAR). ESTIMATE TO FIX VISIBLE DAMAGE (EXCEPY HOOD) WAS $2404, BUT UNLESS THE CAR IS RESURFACED THE PAINT WILL FAIL AGAIN.

THE MAT ON THE DIRVER'S SIDE BECAME CAUGHT IN THE STEERING COLUMN BASE. THE MAT STARTED TO MOVE AND CAUSED DIFFCULTY WITH CONTROLLING THE CAR WHILE TURNING A CORNER. I WAS ABLE TO PULL OFF OF THE ROAD AFTER COMPLETING THE TURN AND PULL THE MAT BACK OUT. THE BINDING OFF OF THE MAT HAD TO BE REMOVED BY THE SERVICE DEPT. AT THE DEALERSHIP. I WAS TOLD THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO TO COVER THE STEERING COLUMN TO PREVENT IT FROM HAPPENING AGAIN.

THIS COMPLAINT RELATES TO A 1998 CHRYSLER SEIBRING CONVERTIBLE. THE VEHICLE HAS TWO HORNS. DURING WARRANTY, ONE HORN FAILED AND THE MANUFACTURER REPLACED IT. THE DEALER SAID THEY FAIL "A LOT". AFTER WARRANTY THE OTHER HORN FAILED. I PAID TO REPLACE IT. THE DEALER INDICATED THEY FAILED FREQUENTLY. AT 9X,XXX MILES THE FUSE IN THE HORN/POWER OUTLET BLEW. DEALER DIAGNOSED IT AS A FAILURE OF THE HORN CIRCUIT IN THE STEERING COLUMN REQUIRING REPLACEMENT OF THE AIR-BAG ASSEMBLY -- COST WITH INSTALLATION IN EXCESS OF $800. VEHICLE HAS BEEN WITHOUT HORN AWAITING PARTS FOR MORE THAN A WEEK. THE HORN IS A CRITICAL PIECE OF SAFETY EQUIPMENT AND MUST BE SIMPLE AND CHEAP TO REPAIR WHEN BROKEN. I PURCHASED THIS CAR ON NOV 2, 2003. I WAITED 3 DAYS TO MAKE SURE IT WASN'T JUST ME. BUT WHAT APPEARED IN THE BEGINNING TO BE A SLIGHT GRINDING WHEN YOU GET UP TO A CERTAIN SPEED EVOLVED INTO A PROBLEM THAT WAS MUCH WORSE. TIRE RIMS ARE TOO SOFT!!!! HAVE REPLACE 2 RIMS AND HAVE OWNED VEHICLE LESS THAN 18 MONTHS. DOOR PANELS ARE DEFECTIVE!!! SUNROOF UPHOLSTERY IS DEFECTIVE. ENGINE ROARS. I HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS OUT OF THIS CAR!! THE CAR WAS PURCHASED IN CHARLOTTE, BUT I LIVE IN SPARTANBURG, SO ALL SERVICE AND MAINTENANCE HAD BEEN PERFORMED AT QUALITY CHRYSLER (1030 N. CHURCH ST., SPARTANBURG, SC 29303; PHONE: 864/596-4550). THE TRANSMISSION WAS NOT SHIFTING CORRECTLY IN 11/98, BUT THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT AT THE DEALERSHIP. IT WOULD NOT MOVE WHEN PUT INTO REVERSE OR DRIVE. THEY FINALLY FOUND THE PROBLEM IN 6/98. STARTED HAVING ADDITIONAL PROBLEMS IN 11/99, AND THEY STATED ONCE AGAIN THAT THERE WAS NOT A PROBLEM. - THE DOOR PANELS HAVE COME OFF OF BOTH DOORS ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. BLEW A TIRE WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25MPH. RIM APPEARS TO HAVE CUT THROUGH SIDE WALL. - HORN ON RIGHT SIDE OF STEERING WHEEL DOES NOT WORK. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE IN THAT I COULDN'T ALERT A VEHICLE THAT WAS ABOUT TO SHIFT INTO MY LANE. I HAD TO DRIVE ONTO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT. - I HAVE HAD OTHER PROBLEMS THAT ARE NOT SAFETY ISSUES, INCLUDING : SPOTS IN PAINT ON SPOILER, ALARM SOUNDING WHEN UNLOCKING PASSENGER DOOR WITH KEY, SPOTS ON BACK WINDOW. AT 300 MILES ALL INSIDE PANELS HAD BE REPLACED. ( THE PANELS HAD WHAT LOOKED LIKE SUN SPOTS IN THEM. BUT AFTER GETTING NEW PANEL'S WHICH HAD THE SAME SPOTS IN THEM. IT SEEMS TO BE A PRODUCTION PROBLEM. ON THE 3RD SET PANELS.) AT 400 MILES DRIVER'S WINDOW TRIM STARTED COMING LOOSE. THE CAR'S INSULATION OR LACK OF IS SO POOR THAT YOU HEAR THE EXHAUST SYSTEM GRINDING ON THE FRAME OF THE CAR. WHEN YOU PRESS ON THE BRAKES THE L/H FRONT WHEEL STARTS TO VIBRATE. BOTH DOOR'S LEAK WHEN IT RAIN'S OR WHEN YOU WASH THE CAR. ON DEC 24, 1998 IT RAINED AND WITH WEATHER DROPING DOWN BELOW FREEZING AND WITH NO ICE ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE CAR SHOWING I COULD NOT OPEN THE DOOR'S ON THE CAR FOR ABOUT ONE HOUR. ON DEC 23, 1998 I CALLED DAIMLERCHRSLER MOTORS CORPORTION CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE CENTER ( 1-800-992-1997 ) TO FIND OUT CHRYSLER MEANING OF QUALITY. PURCHASED A 1998 CHRYSLER SEBRING JULY 1998. HAD SO MANY PROBLEMS WITHIN A FEW WEEK PERIOD THAT THE DEALER TOOK IT BACK, AND GAVE ME ANOTHER ONE IN AUGUST 1998. AFTER A COUPLE OF WEEKS, THE 2ND SEBRING DEVELOPED SIMILAR PROBLEMS. WHEN DRIVING OVER BUMPS PRIMARILY ON LEFT SIDE, A LOUD METALIC RAT-A-TAT-TAT SOUND COMING FROM WHEELS.
