TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 DODGE CARAVAN. WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE AIR BAG INDICATOR WAS ILLUMINATED. THROUGH RESEARCH, HE FOUND INFORMATION STATING THAT THE ILLUMINATION COULD RESULT IN THE DRIVER'S SIDE AIR BAG BECOMING DISABLED DUE TO FAILURE OF THE CLOCKSPRING BAG. THE CLOCKSPRING BAG WAS REPAIRED ON APRIL 21, 2003. THE CONTACT IS IN THE PROCESS OF TAKING THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION PER THE MANUFACTURER'S ADVICE. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL ON THE AIR BAG SYSTEM IN THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WAS A CURRENT RECALL REGARDING THE CLOCKSPRING BAG; HOWEVER, HIS VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE CONTACT WOULD NOT RECEIVE REIMBURSEMENT FOR THE REPAIR. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 64,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 65,000.

WE GOT INTO OUR 2001 DODGE CARAVAN AND STARTED TO DRIVE IT AND NOTICED THAT THERE WAS A RATTLING NOISE IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE OF THE SUSPENSION. I PULLED THE VAN OVER AND NOTICED THE PASSENGER SIDE STRUT WAS UP THROUGH INTO THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT! I BELIEVE THE HOUSING IS RUSTED THROUGH, WHICH ALLOWED THE STRUT TO POKE ALL THE WAY OUT. *TR

WENT TO A TIRE SHOP FOR A TIRE PROBLEM, UPON TAKING THE FRONT WHEELS OFF THEY DISCOVERED FAILING SWAY BAR LINKS. THEY SHOWED ME THE PROBLEM BY ACTUALLY PULLING THE LINK APART FROM THE SWAY BAR BY HAND. AS I WAS LEAVING THE SHOP TO GO HOME ONE OF THE LINKS DISCONNECTED AND NOW THE VEHICLE HAS A NOTICEABLE SWAY IN TIGHT CORNERS. THE VEHICLE WAS NEW IN 2001 AND NOW HAS 51,000 ON IT. I BELIEVE THIS IS TOO SOON FOR PARTS LIKE THIS TO BE FAILING. *NM

FOR YOUR READERS, I HAD A PERSISTENT LOOSE WHEEL OR LOOSE SUSPENSION PHENOMENA IN THE FRONT END. MARINE CHRYSLER VANCOUVER WHO SOLD THE CAR COULD NOT DIAGNOSE OR REPAIR. DEERLAKE CHRYSLER BURNABY DISCOVERED FAULTY BUSHINGS IN FRONT END REPLACED AT 59K JUST UNDER WARRANTY COVERAGE. READERS SHOULD ASK DEALER TO REPALCE BUSHINGS IF THIS PROBLEM PERSISTS ON THEIR CAR.

EXTERIOR LIGHTING

There is no incident, however I would like to report a manufacturer problem. Many manufacturers put vehicles on the market with front headlights that are too bright and not aimed properly. See [XXX] There are regulations for the lumens of headlights and system of reflectors, but I assume manufacturers are not be watched for violations. Where I live, in Sarasota, FL, I am blinded by all the vehicle lights at night because lights appear to be on bright when they aren't. Something is very wrong. I don't think everyone is having aftermarket LED lights installed. I think they are coming from the manufacturers that way. Can you help? THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED IN WET WEATHER CONDITIONS, THE HEADLIGHTS SHUT OFF, THE WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED, AND THE ALL OF THE GAUGES DISPLAY ZERO. THE DEALER PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC TEST AND REPLACED THE BODY CONTROL MODULE. THE CONTACT DID NOT INFORM THE MANUFACTURER. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 151,000. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 114,000.

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 DODGE CARAVAN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE HEADLIGHTS BEGAN TO FLASH, THE HORN WOULD SOUND AND THE HAZARD LIGHTS WOULD ALSO FLASH ON AND OFF. THE FAILURE ALSO OCCURRED WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED WITH THE ENGINE TURNED OFF. THE CONTACT HAD TO DISCONNECT THE BATTERY TO PREVENT THE FAILURE FROM RECURRING. THE CONTACT SPOKE WITH AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHO STATED THAT THEY WERE AWARE OF THE FAILURE BUT THERE WERE NO RECALLS. THE DEALER ALSO STATED THAT THE HOT BODY CONTROLLER AND FRONT BODY MODULATOR HAD TO BE REPAIRED AT THE OWNERS EXPENSE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 125,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 134,893. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 DODGE CARAVAN SPORT. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO MAKE A LEFT TURN, THE STEERING WHEEL SUDDENLY LOCKED AND CAUSING THE STEERING WHEEL TO MAKE A POPPING NOISE. THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME DIFFICULT TO TURN. THE CONTACT HAD TO USE EXCESSIVE FORCE TO MOVE THE STEERING WHEEL. SUDDENLY, THE STEERING WHEEL DID A HARD RELEASE AND RETURNED TO NORMAL. THE HARD RELEASE CAUSED THE CONTACT TO RECEIVE INJURIES TO THE HAND, WRIST, AND ARM. MEDICAL ATTENTION WAS NEEDED. THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE CONTACT DID NOT TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE THERE WAS NO RECALL FOR THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 102,000.

STEERING WHEEL BECOMES SO TIGHT AND CANT EVEN MOVE WHEN EVER THE OUTSIDE TEMPERATURES FALL BELOW 50DEGREES. IT TAKES AT LEAST 15 MIN TO BECOME NORMAL. FUEL LEVELS ARE NORMAL IN MY VAN.

I HAVE A 2001 DODGE CARAVAN. FIRST NOTICED (A FEW MONTHS AGO) THE CRUISE CONTROL DID NOT WORK; THEN THE HORN WOULD WORK INTERMITTENTLY. NOW, THE HORN DOES NOT WORK AT ALL. HAD THE DEALER TROUBLESHOOT AND THEY SAID THE CLOCKSPRING IS FAULTY AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. I NOTICED THAT THERE HAD BEEN A RECALL TO REPLACE CLOCKSPRINGS IN CARAVANS UP TO YEAR 2000. AUG. 20, 2007 - STEERING HAS BEEN LOCKING UP DAILY, FOR THE PAST YEAR ON MY 2001 DODGE CARAVAN. IT IS OBVIOUSLY A SERIOUS AND CONSTANT PROBLEM WITH THESE VEHICLES. I HAVE HAD THE ISSUE LOOKED AT BY VARIOUS MECHANICS AND NONE CAN IDENTIFY THE PROBLEM FOR SURE. THEY ALL SAY THAT IT IS HAPPENING TOO OFTEN - IT'S VERY DANGEROUS BUT THEY CAN ONLY 'TRY CHANGING THE RACK OR POWER STEERING PUMP OR FLUSHING THE FLUID....' NO GUARANTEE THAT IT WILL FIX THE PROBLEM. ON THE BELOW DATE I WAS DRIVING ON A MOUNTAINOUS CURVY ROAD WHEN THE TRANSMISSION IN MY VEHICLE COMPLETELY FAILED. LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO MANUEVER THE VAN TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I THEN HAD THE VAN TOWED TO MY MECHANIC WHO INFORMED ME THAT THE TRANSMISSION HAD A COMPLETE FAILURE. THE MECHANIC PUT IN A NEW FACTORY REMANUFACTURED TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY. ON MAY 19, 2005, LESS THAN 7000 MILES LATER THAT TRANSMISSION FAILED AS WELL. THE DODGE DEALER HONORED THE WARRANTY AND "FIXED" IT. THE DAY AFTER I GOT THE VAN BACK (TODAY) THERE WAS A LOUD "CLUNKING" NOISE AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE VAN BACK TO THE DEALER. THE VAN HAS A TOTAL OF 59,000 MILES ON IT. I HAVE RECORDS OF ALL SERVICE DONE TO THE VEHICLE.

WAS COMING HOME WHEN I SMELT A BURNING SMELL. I PULLED OVER TO SEE WHAT IT WAS AND COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG, BUT STILL SMELT THE SMELL. I TURNED BACK ON THE CAR TO PULL OVER MORE IN THE LIGHT TO SEE WHAT WAS GOING ON (IT WAS DARK). WHEN I TURNED BACK ON THE CAR NOTHING ON THE DASHBOARD WORKED, NO BLINKERS, NO TEMP GAUGE, NO GAS GAUGE, NO RPM, NO SPEEDOMETER. ABOUT THREE HOURS LATER, STILL AT THE GAS STATION I DECIDED TO PRESS THE TRIP BUTTON AND EVERYTHING CAME BACK ON BUT MY DOOR AJAR BUTTON FLASHES ON AND OFF INCLUDING THE LIGHTS THAT COME ONE WHEN THE DOOR OPENS, WITH THE DINGING AND THE LOCKS GO CRAZY. NEEDLESS TO SAY, NO I DID NOT DRIVE IT BECAUSE I THOUGHT FOR SURE IT WOULD CATCH FIRE. THE DEALER WILL ALSO PERFORM DIAGNOSTIC TESTING IN ORDER TO DETERMINE ADDITIONAL FAILURES THAT COULD HAVE CAUSED THE CONTROL MODULE TO FAIL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 85,000.

I HAVE A 2001 DODGE CARAVAN SE. BEGAN TO HAVE MALFUNCTIONS WITH BOTH FRONT WINDOWS IN 2004. I HAD THIS REPAIRED ALONG WITH SOME OTHER MAINTENANCE IN JULY OF THIS YEAR. THIS YEAR IN SEPT THE INSTRUMENT PANEL FLATLINED AS WELL AS THE TURN SIGNALS. THIS RESULTS IN LOSS OF FUEL GAUGE, SPEEDOMETER, RPM, ODOMETER, TEMP GAUGE AND TURNING SIGNALS. 2 DAY'S AGO MY RADIO/CD PLAYER STOPPED WORKED. THE POWER IS CONSTANTLY, IT IS SHOWING THE LAST RADIO STATION THAT WAS ON AND THE DISPLAY ALSO SHOWS DISK SONG 7. NOTHING HAPPENS WHEN YOU PUSH THE POWER BUTTON. THEN TODAY WHEN I PUT MY 4 WAYS ON THE REAR WIPER STARTED GOING AND THEN STUCK IN THE MIDDLE OF THE WINDOW. BOTH POWERED DOORS & POWER LIFT GATE WILL EITHER NOT OPEN OR MAKE THE NOISE OF TRYING TO OPEN WHEN USING EITHER THE KEYLESS REMOTE, INSIDE REMOTES OR MY OPENING & CLOSING MANUALLY. SOMETIMES THE DOORS & LIFTGATE WILL ALSO KICKBACK AS IF SOMETHING IS OBSTRUCTING THE PATHWAY. THIS ALSO OCURRS WHEN USING THE KEYLESS REMOTE OR INSIDE REMOTE BUTTONS. I FIRST LEARNED ABOUT A PRELIMINARY INVESTIGATION REGARDING DOORS & LIFTGATE OPENING WITHOUT WARNING FROM MY LOCAL NEWS STATION BACK IN DECEMBER OF 2004. I DISCONNECTED THE SERVO TO THE CRUISE CONTROL TO ELIMINATE THE CRUISE AS THE CAUSE. THE PROBLEM IS INTERMITTENT BUT OCCURS OFTEN.

WHEN STARTING MY 2001 DODGE CARAVAN SPORT, THE SPEEDOMETER BOUNCES AROUND AND "FLIPS" BACK BEHIND THE PIECE THAT IS UNDERTHE 0 MPH, PREVENTING THE SPEEDOMETER FROM WORKING. IT IS AN IMTERMITTENT PROBLEM THAT HAS BECOME INCREASINGLING WORSE IN THE LAST 3 WEEKS (3 TIMES). THE FIRST COUPLE OF TIMES I COULD HIT ON THE DASH WHEN THE CAR WAS OFF AND IT WOULD "RESET" AND WORK FINE, BUT THIS DOES NOT ALWAYS WORK SO WHEN I'M DRIVING I CAN'T TELL HOW FAST I'M GOING. DT: 2001 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN. THE CONSUMER BOUGHT THE CARAVAN THREE YEARS AGO, DROVE IT HOME ABOUT 100 MILES AND TWO OR THREE DAYS LATER THE TRANSMISSION WAS SLIPPING, HAD IT FIXED. THE CONSUMER WAS TOLD THAT SHE COULD TRADE THE CAR IN FOR ANOTHER CAR IN MARCH OR APRIL. THEN, THE DEALERSHIP CHANGED HIS MIND AND STATED THAT CONSUMER COULD NOT TRADE VEHICLE IN RIGHT NOW.
