How to read a Entegra Aspire VIN — every digit explained
Every Entegra Aspire carries a unique 17-character VIN stamped at the factory. Each position is a code — together they spell out where, when and how your car was built. Here's exactly what every digit means.
- WMI (1–3) — country & manufacturer. 4T1 = Toyota, built in the USA.
- VDS (4–8) — model line, body style, engine & restraint system.
- Check digit (9) — a math check that proves the VIN is genuine.
- Model year (10) — the year it was built. H = 2017.
- Plant (11) — which factory assembled this Aspire.
- Serial (12–17) — the unique sequential production number.
Model-year code (10th digit)
The 10th character is the model year. It cycles through letters and numbers, skipping I, O, Q, U, Z and 0 to avoid confusion:
Where to find your Aspire VIN
- Dashboard — driver's side, visible through the windshield from outside.
- Driver's door jamb — on the manufacturer sticker when you open the door.
- Paperwork — vehicle registration, title and insurance card.
- Engine bay & frame — stamped on the firewall or chassis on many models.

Tires 13 Read
On july 6th, 2018 about 11:30 am, i experienced a front passenger blowout on my 2016 class a motorhome. My rv was equipped with goodyear g670 tires 295/80r22.5 that came on it at purchase. Traveling east on i-10 just before baytown, texas. Driving at 62 mph on a dry sunny day the tire blew. Neither my wife nor i were injured but, the experience will last a life time, the tire showed no signs of outer damage and i only had just over 20k miles on the tires. The blowout cause the rv to steer hard and fast right sending the rv across one lane as i fought to keep it from straight. It left the freeway heading across the ditch to the on coming traffic of the frontage road. In my fight to maintain control, i was able to bring it to a stop down the center of a ditch. Once the rv was recurred, tire remove i took what was left to the goodyear service center in baytown on i-10 to make a claim. Not hearing from them after a period of time, i visited the center and made 2 calls of inquiry. Today is april 1st, 2019 and have heard nothing from the center or goodyear. The blowout damage cost over 60k dollars.
I had the driver side steer tire blow out (goodyear g670 r295 22.5) at 71mph on i-10 eastbound approaching exit 5. I ended up disabled in the median but didn't roll the rv and managed to not cross over into opposing traffic. *bf ** *tr
We had a wreck with our motor home through no fault of our own. After the tire exploded, we ended up in a swampy field approx. 300 yards off the highway. There were no events leading up to the failure of this tire. We were running smoothly at the speed limit of 65mph. We had been traveling for approx. 3 hours on a smooth highway. We were in our 45' motor home. We heard an explosion sound, sudden loss of air, it had never happened ever before. All the tires had a lot of tread and only approx. 27,000 miles on all tires. We did not hit anything in the road. We checked the pressure in the tires prior to take off; we always do. We are experienced safe drivers; no accidents prior. The tire had massive tread separation and massive belt separation. The tire is locked up in storage unit where our motor home is being evaluated for damages. It was a horrific experience.
Driving home from a trip when tire suddenly exploded. Brand new tire blowout. I am very meticulous about tire pressure, as i check prior to every trip and morning. My coach also has tpms (tire pressure monitoring system) and pressure was perfect. Blowout has caused $15k in damages and 5 months of repair time.
With approximately 14k miles on the odometer and 10 months after purchasing the new rv the driver side front tire (goodyear 670-rv) began to split at the seam in multiple places just above the rim. There was no physical damage to have caused this condition, the tire simply began to de-laminate. Fortunately i recognized the condition and replaced the tires prior to what could have been a catastrophic blowout. *tt *tr
Goodyear g670rv tire failure
On dec. 12, 2018, i experienced a blowout on my 2015 entegra aspire that had about 24,000 miles on it. I was traveling eastbound on i-10, near marianna, flordia at about 63mph. The right front passenger tire that blew out was a goodyear g670 with a date of 18/4 (april, 2014). I was able to maintain control of the motorhome and pull it over safely. No other vehicles were involved,no one was injuried and my tow vehicle was not damaged. The blowout blew off the front wheel well fender and destroyed the electrical wiring in this area. The door and the electrical steps were damaged. The permanent steps were broken and the tiles around the passenger seat were cracked. Also the windshield on the passenger side received a hole and cracks of about 12 inches in diameter. The wiring to the big awning was destroyed. These are just the obvious things i observed. The blowout happened about 4:00pm. We sat on the side of the interstate for about 6 hours. The police were a no show. About 10:00pm the tire man showed up. He replaced our tire and said he thought the motorhome was drivable. I drove the rv to the rest area that was about 5 miles away. The wrecker service was waiting for us at the rest area. After he examined the motorhome he thought i should drive it to a repair shop instead of having it towed. He tried to bring in the electrical steps but they would not come in. I parked the coach in the rest area for the night. On dec. 13th, i slowly drove the motorhome to alliance coach in davenport, flordia. The motorhome has now been in the collision center for 8 weeks. The original estimate was for over $10,000. The supplemental claims have not been filed yet. The wiring was more complicated than originally thought. The fender has finally come in.
I was traveling on interstate 75 northbound just north of ocala, fl when my 2015 entegra aspire motorhome suffered a tire blowout to the left front steer tire. The tire type is a goodyear g670rv 295/80r22.5. There were no prior indications that there was a problem with the tire. The incident resulted in momentary loss of vehicle control as well as causing significant damage to the motorhome in the wheel well area. This area housed a wiring harness and support structures for the body components of the vehicle. Additionally, the tire belt fragments damaged the vehicle i was towing and caused damage to another person's vehicle who was behind my motorhome on the highway. After the incident occured my wife posted on an entegra social media group what had happened and it appears that there are a multitude of other people with the same problem with the same make and model of tire on their motorhome. I subsequently have purchased a different brand of replacement tires for the motorhome as i do not trust the goodyear tires on the motorhome. The date code on the tires were (1914) so about 4 years old. There were no signs of dry rotting on the tires and the vehicle does not sit for extended periods of time.
My motor coach is a 2014 entegra coach built on a spartan k2 chassis. Spartan installed new front tires (goodyear g670 295/80/22.5) on my coach on 4/22/2016. My coach was weighed at all tires and the correct tire pressure was obtained from the tire manufacturers chart, which is the pressures that i maintained. Approximately 18,000 miles later on 8/27/2019 we were driving down the highway and the right front tire blew for noreason. We had the tire replaced and continued on our way. About 2 hours later our left front tire blew, again for no reason. Both times we had a tire tech come out and replace the blown tire. They could find no obvious reason for the failures. After the first blow out, i checked the other tires for damage and found none. I also asked the tech to check the other tire. He told me after his inspection and checking pressure, that the 2nd goodyear tire was safe and good to go. There was no debris in the road either time. I have a tire pressure monitor system installed on all my tires. It has alarms for pressure and temperature issues. I had been monitoring the temperatures and pressures of all my tires during the day and did not see anything abnormal. I did not receive any alarms prior to either blow out, so i am confident the tires were properly inflated and did not have suffer any type of air loss. Both times it was a sudden catastrophic internal failure. Both blow outs caused damage to both sides of the front end of the coach. I have since read of numerous other coaches like mine with the same goodyear tires that had failures resulting in damage and even crashes. It is a very dangerous to suffer a steer tire blow out at highway speed. I believe the cause of mine were poor quality tires that were not designed well enough to handle the size and weights of my motor coach. Even though my weight was within the specifications of goodyear and the tires were routinely maintained, they still suffered asudden catastrophic internal failure for no reason.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 entegra aspire equipped with goodyear g670rv tires, size: 29580r22.5 (na). While driving 62 mph, the front driver's side tire blew out. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that the tire split into thin layers. The tire was replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle failure mileage was 22,800 and the tire failure mileage was 2,100.

DEF heads failed aftwr only 10k mikes. Was told by Cummins dealer that the Spaetan DEF heads were failing at an alarming rate. I called Spartan and was told by customer service (Hunter) that the DEF heads fail all the time.
Motorhome engine went into derate mode because of faulty DEF sensor. Spartan is the chassis manufacturer and advises this is a common problem with the DEF sensors. We have since learned there is a protocol to follow to keep engine from going to 5 MPH derate mode but did not know about this at time and Spartan apparently did not know it either because they advised just getting off the road ASAP. Luckily we avoided shut down on I-95 but if it occurred on a busy interstate the safety ramifications are enormous. It seems to me a safety recall should be issued on all vehicles with this defective part and the design changed so that if a failure occurs, reasonable advance notice should be incorporated in the design as I understand some trucks have.
Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) head failure. Diagnostics codes SPN 3364 / 1761 / 3031 The offending unit is not available from me, the mobile mechanic took it with him. My Motorcoach derated. I was able to get to a safe parking spot, where I waited one week to be repaired, (1000 miles from home) Could not move from that spot, as top speed was limited to 5 MPH. I was warned during travel by dashboard warning lights to check engine. It was good I was aware of potential DEF head issues, so I immediately checked the diagnostic codes, then immediately found a safe place to stop. I contacted Spartan, Entegra, and Coachnet, whom between them, acknowledged the problem and sent a replacement head. Once the head was replaced, fault codes were cleared and I was able to continue. So, other than the monitoring head itself being faulty, all the inputs the head monitored were fine.
DEF head failure
Computer showed codes for defective def head. We had a gen5. Engine will de-rate due to those codes. The codes appeared as soon as i started the engine from a parked position.
Radiator failed after 3 years and 8 months and 49600 miles on the vehicle. In communications with other owners we have identified a large percentage of vehicles in this year that have experienced similar radiator failures around the same "time in operation".
My radiator started leaking with only 26,000 miles and no external damage. The leak was un-repairable and required that the radiator be replaced. There are many spartan chassis having the same problem, so spartan is obviously using inferior parts or an inferior manufacturing process.

DEF head sensor. 5,800 miles on Spartan K2 450 Chassis (2020 Entegra Aspire). Have been told replacement part will not be available until mid-August. I was at an RV dealership when check engine light came on. Spoke to Spartan tech and he informed me that the DEF Head sensor was bad and that the vehicle would go into "derate mode". I was going to take my grandson on a camping trip the next week but had to cancel that. Additionally, was going to pick up my mother who is suffering early stage dementia in late July 2021. That's not happening either. This is the RV season right now and I am going to lose half of it due to this issue. And as I understand it there is nothing wrong with the DEF its just a bad sensor. What a crock of [XXX]! PARTS OF THIS DOCUMENT HAVE BEEN REDACTED TO PROTECT PERSONALLY IDENTIFIABLE INFORMATION PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

DEF tank head failure. 3 codes on dash, engine light and check engine light. NO warning of when a derate would start, or when an engine shutdown may occur. New part supplied by manufacturer had crystilized DEF on it when recieved at service facility. Suspect supplier may be refurbushing older units, and trying to pass them off as new next generation. Unless and until the manufacturers of these DEF systems can come up with a system that works for 100,000 miles and up, the EPA needs to start to relax the rules on the diesel engine emissions.
The DEF system gave us a false reading and derated the engine to 5 miles per hour. We were able to make it to a repair shop and left it there.
In march of 2021 I left Las Vegas Nevada for home (montana) . 70 miles north on highway 93 (2 lane 70 mph ) road def level light came on . Engine power reduction in 30 miles. I then called Spartin mgf. was told to find a rock and hit the top of the DEF head.?? Ok so i did lights went out and i went on 200 miles later lights came on again! found a safe place to pull over and repeated previous instructions. Lights went out and i went on. 50 miles later I arrived in a town called Lund. (population 250) with no warning engine went to reduced engine power and slowed to 1 MPH!!! still on a 2 lane highway! this put my family"s life as well as mine and other motorists in serious danger! this motorhome sat in a motel parking lot for 3 weeks before i could get parts to fix it. this cost me thousands of dollars and is not acceptable for any motor vehicle at any price point.

Front tire blow out good year g670 295/80-22.5 unisteel. With out warning we had a blow out on the front passenger side while traveling on the nystate thruway the tire only had 21000 miles and it was in good condition. The blowout caused me to go off the road and had to be towed. I am a cdl tractor trailer driver and i know the importance of checking the proper air pressure. Before and after each trip and at fuel stops.
We had goodyear g670 rv steer tires. Both of the started 'river treading' before hitting 20,000 miles and i had to replace them before a major accident. We had the coach inspected and aligned 4 times prior to replacing. Since replace, ent we have had no issues.

Tl* the contact owns a 2016 entegra aspire. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to the dealer (motor home specialist located at 5411 s interstate 35 w, alvarado, tx 76009) for nhtsa campaign number: 18v077000 (service brakes, air) to be performed. The dealer stated that they were unaware of the recall and that they were not able to honor the replacement of the current air supply reservoir. The manufacturer was informed of the issue and stated that the recall notice was an error and that it should not have been issued because it was currently under investigation and nhtsa had to approve the recall. In addition, the contact stated that the vehicle was repaired at the same dealer (motor home specialist located at 5411 s interstate 35 w, alvarado, tx 76009) under nhtsa campaign number: 17v695000 (exterior lighting). The contact stated that prior to the recall remedy being performed, the front, middle, and rear reflectors flickered when making a left or right turn or switching lanes. After the recall remedy, the reflectors no longer flickered to make other drivers aware that the driver was attempting to make a left or right turn or switching lanes. The contact inquired about the reflectors not flickering with the dealer and it was informed that by law the reflectors were not required to flicker. The contact was concerned that the recall remedy could potentially cause a crash. The manufacturer was also called at 800-517-9137 and confirmed the information provided by the dealer. The dealer or the manufacturer offered no further assistance. The contact had not experienced a failure. *tt *dt*jb
