How to read a Forest River Sunseeker VIN — every digit explained
Every Forest River Sunseeker carries a unique 17-character VIN stamped at the factory. Each position is a code — together they spell out where, when and how your car was built. Here's exactly what every digit means.
- WMI (1–3) — country & manufacturer. 4T1 = Toyota, built in the USA.
- VDS (4–8) — model line, body style, engine & restraint system.
- Check digit (9) — a math check that proves the VIN is genuine.
- Model year (10) — the year it was built. H = 2017.
- Plant (11) — which factory assembled this Sunseeker.
- Serial (12–17) — the unique sequential production number.
Model-year code (10th digit)
The 10th character is the model year. It cycles through letters and numbers, skipping I, O, Q, U, Z and 0 to avoid confusion:
Where to find your Sunseeker VIN

- Driver's door jamb — on the manufacturer sticker when you open the door.

Jan 16, 2015 received letter from chevrolet company saying must get updated transmission program. Had transmission reprogrammed with updated program even though no existing problems. Transmission started slipping and jumping. February 27, 2015 received letter from chevrolet company saying not to get update if not having trouble. Replaced with rebuilt transmission and still have problems. Evidently tried to fix effect instead of the cause. Been to 4 different chev dealers where 3 different trans techs (at different dealers) advised getting original program reinstalled but chevy company will not authorize work therefore will not supply proper program saying the updated one on the one it needed. For 27,000 miles had not one problem with transmission even in rocky mountains. Customer assistance been contacted numerous times with no results. They advised 2,000 - 3,000 miles for trans to adjust to driving habits, etc. After 2,600 miles runs worse skipping and slipping (every 5 - 10 seconds) even at highway speeds and especially starting and stopping in traffic. Now they say take it back to a dealer to get checked again. Called dealer and they say not to bring it back because chevy won't let them work on it. Help! They, (chevy), say drive it even though it is unsafe. If it stops or stalls in traffic there could be accident and hurt people around it. Help! I'm caught between rock and hard spot. 27,000 miles not any problems until chevy updated trans program and won't fix it -- 8 months later. Still under warranty. There have been no computer codes during this whole mess, therefore i believe this is the problem. They do not know what to do. The computer itself could be the problem by not accepting the updated program or something. My wife and i are up in age and this was to be our retirement vehicle. Help
While fueling, gasoline started to leak from the area above the sewer tank. The gasoline ran over the tank and onto the fueling dock. Fueling was stopped with the tank about 1/2 full. The leak stopped shortly after fueling stopped. No leak was detected from the area around the fuel tank. This problem is similar to the problem reported in nhtsa action number 926943, service bulletin number 10463500 reported jun 28, 2012.
While attempting to fill rv with unleaded gasoline, the gas leaked onto the ground and caused a spill of approximately 2 gallons of gas. Subsequently, we took the motorhome to a mechanic and he discovered that the filter hose leaked gas from holes in it. The mechanic stated that this should not happen. He has never seen a leak like this one, even on 40-50 year old vehicles. The mechanic was not able to repair, because a holding tank must be removed to access the hose and the repair was too extensive for my family while traveling. The mechanic drove the rv to a gas station and filled it with gas, so we could travel home, approximately 140 miles. The mechanic assured me that the vehicle was safe to drive, because the exhaust was on the opposite side of the vehicle and the gas would not leak after it reached the fuel tank. I will find a local mechanic or rv repair shop as soon as possible and replace the fuel hose. The mechanic estimated that the new hose would cost about $30.00, but removing the holding tank to access the hose would require extensive maintenance. The mechanic charged $108.00 to diagnose the problem. If the manufacturer hadn't routed the hose behind the tank, the mechanic would have repaired it in about 30 minutes. *tr
Passenger side rear inner tire blowout caused crack in bottom of fuel tank. Fuel leak was a constant drip and could have caused a fire or explosion. Insurance is scheduled to inspect in the coming weeks.

26dec had a tire failure on the road. After inspection found the tire was worn through the cord on the outside 1 inch of the tire. Further, after looking at the other three tires, found the same problem was occurring on the others. Contacted the rv dealer and they transferred me to the rv manufacture, forest river. Forest river took no responsibility of the issue and passed me to their axle supplier. After several hours investigating on the internet i found many others reporting abnormal tire wear due to axle miss-alignment. The axle manufacture is al-ko. Al-ko agreed to send a replacement set of axles. I?m filling this report to help save others possible injury due to tire failure from fault manufacturing practices of the al-ko company. Through internet research, i?ve found 30+ reports of others having the same axle issues with al-ko. Please be advise; the correct vehicle was not listed. The vehicle in subject is 2006 forest river wildcat 32qbbs 5th wheel camper,. *jb

We have owned this motorhome since we bought it, over the years randomly the the engine would just shut off. We could be going 65 mph on the highway and the check system light comes on with a red battery light and engine shuts of. We could be going 35 and it happens. We can drive for several hundred miles and nothing happens and then all of a sudden it happens again. We have had battery check and even replaced, we have had the alternator check and even wires and cables. Recently in the past 2 months it has happened twice. On the highway going 65 mph and then again on a back road while camping. Very dangerous, if we are pulling a car or our boat the danger is greater. No one seams to have a answer to the problem, we don't know what to do. Thinking this is part of the gcm ignition problem. Our motor home is a class "c" with the gmc truck front. *tr
