Tires 36 Read
Brand new trailer. Picked up in October and put it in storage. Visited trailer for spring prep and noticed sidewall of tire split from rim to the treads. Only highway miles from dealer to storage lot. No deformations on any tire when we parked the trailer for the winter. Castle Rock st235/80/16r Manufacture date 1622 All 4 tires have dates of 1622 & 1722
While driving on i95 going on a trip we blew not only this complaint of the pass side that was on the pa turnpike we blew the drivers side rear first and then hours later the drivers side front tire. Each time it appears that the side wall and treads caused the blow out.
Castl rock radial st226 235/80r16. While travel at 65 mph the tire tread on the front axle of my camper came apart and whipped around. This whipping caused multiple puncture holes in the rear tire causing the rear tire to go flat. This caused damgage to the skirt of the camper and a drain valve. The tires were purchased with the camper which i bought new in may of 2021 and have approximately 4500 miles on the tires. The tires are checked monthy and are always inflated to 80 psi cold. There were no warning signs and fortunately the tire that lost the tread stayed inflated so i could safely get to the shoulder to evaluate the damage. I then idled to the next exit to unhook the trailer so i could change the flat tire and then slowly proceed to the repair shop. All four tires are available for inspection by you. The one that failed, the one that was puncuted and the two on the passenger whcih are intact. As a precaustion i am replacing all four tires. I have read on multiple forums of multiple incidents with these tires for similiar issues and these tires should be recalled. For safety reasons. I have reached out to forest river and they state in a meial there have not been an issues and i will contact the tire manufacture in regrads to this. I urge you to take all four tires and do a complete evaluation to determine what caused this failure as there have neen similiar incidents.
Tire exploded while driving, causing loss of control. Spare tire replaced and also did the same thing. Tires had under 5,000 miles on them, tire pressures checked before trip, and tires have been stored indoors. Many people online are having the same issue with these particular tires.
The tire blew out. We noticed it as we were merging onto I65. It could have happened before then. As we have a tandem axel trailer, it was not catastrophic. We have owned the trailer/tires for 13-14 months and have put around 5000 miles on them via monthly trips. I still have the tire and rim. It could have caused a wreck. “No” to all other questions.
The contact owns a 2021 Forest River Wildwood Travel Trailer equipped with Castle Rock tires, Tire Line: ST226 Radial, Tire Size: 205/75/R14, DOT Number: JUJTYMT2920. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the driver's side rear tire had tread separation. The contact was able to pull over and replace the driver's side rear tire with the spare tire. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 4,800.
Tire size 205/75/r14 on a 2020 Forest River Wildwood single axel camper. Today was the second time one of these tires failed. The first time was early November of 2024, we were traveling in I69 in Indiana at around 65mph when the drivers side tire rapidly deflated and came apart. Today, we were traveling around 70mph on I70 in Indiana when I heard an explosion type sound and looked in my mirror to see tread flying in the air. During the first time, damage to the camper was minimal. Today bent metal and damaged the leveler, likely beyond repair. The tire that blew today was the spare tire that was put on in November. This was the first time that tire had been mounted and it had less than 500 miles on it. It spent its entire life with a tire cover on it so it was not damaged by the elements. I checked pressure prior to leaving today ensured it was inflated to the suggested 65psi. The tanks were all empty and we were not hauling any excess cargo weight.
Within the last week, the tire on my camper exploded. It has been sitting winterized since last fall and hasn’t moved. I checked the other three tires and they were all right at 60 psi. I have pictures of the belts coming out of the tire I do not at all feel this is normal for a tire to blow out, sitting still. Upon looking online I also signed a petition for a recall. It seems these tires have a significant blowout problem.
ST225/75R15 4 of 4 tires experienced blow-outs. Tires pressures were normal and monitored by a tire pressure monitoring system. Tread depth was very near full tread depth. All tires blew within 1000 miles of each other. Trailer was bought used. Mileage on tires at failure is believed to be about 2000.0 miles. Photos of 3 of the tires is provided.
ST205/75/R14 last year our spare blew out while attached to the bumper, the spare tire had never been used. Yesterday, while driving on the turnpike at 75 mph the driver side front tire on our tandem axl blew out. We were able to make it to a safe spot to change the tire with our replacement spare. The blow out tire was extremely hot compared to the other tires on the trailer.

Tl* the contact owns a 2017 forest river wildwood recreational vehicle. The contact stated that during cold weather conditions, the pipes from the bathroom froze. As a result, the sink and shower pipes busted when they unfroze causing water to flood the entire bathroom. Due to the failure, there was mold in the bathroom. The recreational vehicle was then towed to a certified forest river dealer (address unknown) where it was pending repairs however the contact was informed that the mold in the bathroom and underbelly of the recreational vehicle would not be removed. In addition, the contact's son required medical attention due to the mold effecting his health. The recreational vehicle was repaired but the contact no longer felt safe driving the recreational vehicle due to mold still being present. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
Forest river put large plastic panels for the underbelly on my 2022 wildwood 29vbud.Two of the panels have come lose and were hanging down dragging on ground and a third came off with a 1x1 piece of wood.I don't know where the panel and piece of wood came off at.
*The large coroplast panels that line the underbelly detach and fall off while driving. These panels are very large (about 4 x 6). * These panels came off while we were towing it on the interstate and mountainous roads. They could potentially cause an accident. * The camper is set to be inspected Nov. 16th to assess why they are falling off and to order replacement panels (They are necessary to protect the wires and lines underneath from wildlife and weather and therefore will have to be replaced.) * These are just coroplast panels that are screwed in. We did not know they had come off until we reached our destination and saw some remaining panels were hanging. These were resecured with duct tape. The 2 pictures attached are from our camper. They show what the panels look like, how they are attached, and an area where some are missing.
The contact owns a 2022 Forest River Wildwood. The contact stated that while driving the RV at an undisclosed speed, another motorist notified her of an issue with the RV. After stopping to inspect the RV, it was discovered that the underbelly of the RV had loosened and was dragging along the road surface. The underbelly was temporally reattached to the subframe. The contact stated that later while driving, the exterior roof lining of the RV became unsecured, detached, and flew up in the air. The cause of the failure was not determined. The manufacturer and local dealer were notified of the failure but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 100.
In the mid summer of 2021 I purchased a 2021 FOREST RIVER WILDWOOD TRIM LEVEL 178BHSK VIN # [XXX] for a considerable amount of money., I have had nothing but problems with this trailer and now the water leak ( for a second time on a second location) has damaged the integrity of the floor structure. With mold growing, a trailer I can NEVER level and wobbles terribly and many problems. I want this trailer to be bought back. I would like to know what I need to do to have someone consider these issues as I have children and refuse to camp in a trailer with Mold , spongy floors from damage and a door that never closes no matter how flat the ground is. I would like a response as currently my trailer is in the 1000 islands RV Gan shop yet again. I have every warranty and protection on this unit and want it gone.im very upset. Please let me know how I can start this process. I have already contact the better business bureau and explained my concerns at the dealer level to management. I LIVE IN CANADA and it wont allow me to put in my proper address.. your website is difficult to navigate and nothing available for Canadian support??? I was towing our 2018 Forest River Wildwood 370BL down I 10 coming into Tucson AZ on our way back to Alabama from California when we were approx 20 miles away from our overnight stop in Tucson. I notice that the camper was moving up and down with the bumps and dips and even made contact with the top of my bed on the passenger side causing damage. After attempts to find a mobile RV repair facility that would look at it failed, I called the Lippert, the company listed on the fifth wheel pin box. After removing the exterior panels at their direction It was obvious that there was major damage to the welds themselves on the frame. Speaking to Lippert reps, they agreed over the phone that this was a failure in the frame. The flex caused by these breaks also caused major structural damage to the exterior walls, slides, floor, interior walls, seals, gutters, and roof. As of now my AC condensation is now dripping down through the walls because of a separation of the exterior wall near the roof line and gutter. This could have been a life altering event to my family and those around us on I 10 if this would have completely failed.
Shortly after purchasing our RV, we noticed one of the trailer exterior doors would not stay closed. We inspected the rig and saw what looked like a small rubber seam separation. Called ins and filed a claim but they said keep moving and keep an eye on it as it was a small separation. The trailer was back on the road about 30 miles when my Husband noticed it sagging and almost resting on our truck bed. We pulled over to see if we were imagining such an issue and found that the rig had literally separated from the frame. The bottom almost out of the master, the master closet crumbled the steps up to the room became dislodged. It became completely un-towable & could have resulted in a horrible outcome had my Husband not looked back to see where the trailer was sitting in comparison to our truck. This was deemed totaled by our insurance company & NOT covered due to no collision or natural disaster!

The camper was parked in a campground on a gravel campsite. The fresh water tank was being filled when it dropped to the ground because the support beam bent and was not fastened to the frame correctly. Neither our extended warranty or camper insurance will cover as they state it is a manufacture defect.
I was traveling at 60 mph on highway 87 north of great falls mt. At about 4:40 in the afternoon on september 4th 2020, the tread of rear tire on the drivers side of my 2016 forest river travel trailer came apart from the rest of the tire. After getting the trailer back under control and brought to a safe stop it was noticed that substantial damaged was caused to the trim surrounding, above and behind the tire, as well as damage to the trailers plumbing that was behind the tire, along with damage to the underneath of the trailer including the wires for the trailer breaks being torn out from the hub. The tread that came off the tire along with some of the broken plumbing struck the car that was behind us. Luckily after talking with the individual, the damage that their car substained was minimal. They were along with myself was glad that it was a rental and they bought the extra insurance.

The gas line (propane) for the rear bumper mounted BBQ grill is laid on the main support rail of the chassis of the camper. The issue is there are sharp metal tapping screws the length of the support rail and the hose is rubbing on them. This could eventually cause the hose to leak propane and possibly start a fire under the trailer.
The contact owns a 2022 Forest River Wildwood Towable. The contact stated that after utilizing the glass stove top, the glass top exploded without warning. The glass stove top was in an upward position during the failure. The fractured glass propelled throughout the vehicle but there were no reported injuries. The contact called the local dealer but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
Recently, I was extending the awning on my travel trailer and it free spooled out without motor resistance. After researching this, it seems like a very common problem for the Dometic 9200 awning. (Motor part # 3316605.001) There is a design flaw in the motor where the metal drive rod is injected into a plastic gear. Over time 0-2 years this plastic piece wears out and start to spin/slip freely under load. This causes the awning to become unstable and allows it to extend at any time. This is a serious safety issue as it came out for a second time on the highway, while I was hauling it. Luckily, I saw it immediately and was able to pull over and secure it. It could have been a lot worse or caused an accident. Dometic won't talk to me, so I'm in the process of working with Forest River, as the awning was installed by them. I can buy a replacement motor, however unless the design is changed, it will just happen to others. There is a lot of similar complaints if you search for it. I have not had my trailer inspected as it is clear what is occurring. The consumer stated after a few attempts Dometic came to his house and repaired the motor and gear on the vehicle.
The contact owns a 2021 Forest River Wildwood trailer. The contact stated that multiple failures had occurred with the trailer upon purchase. First, he stated that the front strip exterior light located in the front of the trailer would not turn off while driving or while turned off. He also mentioned that the water pump would bypass the check valve and fill up the water tank; due to the failure, the water tank would overflow, and water would then leak out of the trailer. The contact also stated that the plastic fenders over each of the tires on the trailer had begun to crack. The manufacturer had been notified about the multiple failures on numerous occasions; however, the contact had yet to hear back from the manufacturer. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was unknown.
The contact's husband owns a 2020 Forest River Wildwood. The contact stated that while using the propane tank, a strong propane odor was coming from the trailer. While towing the trailer I found that it kept pulling to the right several times pulling off the roadway onto the emergency lane. The trailer was vissably showing in the mirrors as not pulling straight. This was also verified by my wife as she followed. I hand measured the frame and axle position verifying the frane was square but the axles were install 3 inches off. Speaking with the mgf. Spokesperson he said this happens all the time. He suggested the axels to be cut off and reinstalled. I dont feel this is a safe fix to apply excessive heat to the metal frame. Not knowig how the steel may become soft or brittle.i have expressed my opinion and requested a new unit without defective installed axles. I feel this created a hazard to myself and others traveling our roadways. Especially since I was told this is not an isolated deffect
On the morning of June 11th, while traveling along Interstate 90, west of Billings, Montana, our travel trailer had a tire disintegrate within a matter of seconds. This unexpected event was alarming and placed our family in a very dangerous situation. Fortunately, we heard the tire blow and were able to pull off onto the shoulder of the interstate immediately. We assumed this was an isolated tire incident and continued with our family trip. Then on June 20th, while traveling through Beaver, Utah and stopping for gas at a Flying J Store, our inspection of the trailer tires revealed that the rear, driver’s side trailer tire was showing signs of uneven wear – to the extent that the steel belts within the tire were visible. Fortunately, the service station had a tire service shop that was capable of inspecting the tires and suspension system. Upon further inspection it was visibly apparent that the leaf springs were overloaded. Furthermore, the springs were deflecting in a manner that was compromising the tire alignment, which likely caused the uneven wear on the rear trailer tires. We had just traveled over treacherous mountainous roads that had very little, or no room to pull off the road. If a spring had broken or tire blown on those roads, my family could have been in a very serious and life-threatening situation. It also concerned me that we could have been sitting on the side of Interstate 15, in a remote area and over 2000 miles away from home. After further inspection we found that the axles which are rated for 3500 lbs per axle are on a travel trailer that is rated to be able to handle almost 8000 lbs. This seems to mean the axles are overloaded from the factory. I believe this is a safety issue not just for my family, but every family that uses this type of unit. I need to add that we took every precaution to not be overloaded, and we still had issues.
Brand new only 1 year old used only 5 times. Driving and kept hearing a loud noise driving did not feel like we were in total control. He slowed down and when we got to the campground about 15 miles from our house he saw the leaf spring was hanging. Could have cause my two year old and three year olds lives had we have been rolling down the interstate and at a higher speed than 40 mph . This has been a known problem in previous forest river models and know i am concerned with this trailer. We are talking our first big trip to mountains in july and i am scared. My dealer said that manufacturer al,ost 90% of time says ppl overloaded trailer and i can say for a fact we did not i wat to get this on record and see if there has been other issues and to warn drivers. I have attached pictures and i also have two vidoes if needed
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 forest river wildwood being hauled by a 2011 ford f-250. The contact stated that the trailer swayed back and forth excessively. The vehicle was inspected by a mechanic who indicated that the 14 inch tires needed to be replaced with 15 inch tires. The tires were replaced, but the failure recurred. The contact made several attempts, but was unable to reach the manufacturer. The approximate failure mileage was 300. The vin was not available.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 forest river wildwood. The contact stated that the axle was worn which resulted in the excessive tire wear. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was confirmed that the axles needed to be replaced. The vehicle had its tires replaced however the failure persisted. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 1,000.
My rear axle bent wearing the tires down to the belt. The axles are rated for 3500 pounds each or 7000 maximum for both. The weight of the unit empty is 6575 with a maximum cargo of 1107 pounds, for a total weight of 7682. The manufacturer is essentially telling me to overload it by their safety placards. Upon contacting the manufacturer the usual run around telling me it's out of warranty etc, and i must have overloaded it. This is a safety issue a broken axle at highway speeds would be disastrous. I believe the manufacturer should replace the undersized axles, to avoid an accident. I was not towing when this happened i noticed the tires and bent axle in my yard thankfully. *tt *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 forest river wildwood. While driving 65 mph, the passenger side wheel of the camper suddenly failed. Upon inspection, it was discovered that the axle was bent and caused excessive wear to both tires. The trailer was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the failure was due to a weight overload issue. The contact indicated that the maximum weight allowed was 3,500 pounds, but the trailer alone weighed 3,150 without anyone inside the camper. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vin and failure mileage were not available.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 forest river wildwood 27rls5 rv. While driving approximately 55 mph, the contact was alerted by another driver that the front tire had exploded. The vehicle was maneuvered onto the emergency lane where the tire was replaced with the spare tire. The contact noticed the front and rear axle were both faulty which resulted in the tire failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 700. The vin was unavailable.
August 2006 i purchased a 28-foot travel trailer from my local dealer in helena montana. The travel trailer is manufactured by forest river. In the barely 14 months i have owned the travel trailer, the tires have been replaced once and are again in need of replacement. (less than 5,000 miles.) an axle has also been replaced. I believe this vehicle is unsafe to operate as it was built with defective or under-rated parts. The manufacturer refuses to acknowledge this and only wants to replace the tires yet again. I am concerned that the continued use of this travel trailer poses a significant hazard to the safety of myself and fellow motorists. I would like to request an investigation and suggestion for resolution. *tr

My wife and I went camping to our favorite RV park in Lyndon Station Wisconsin, my sister met us there for a weekend of relaxation and visit. During the first nights stay we were suddenly woke by a smoke filled bedroom/bathroom. Got up and flipped light on and our bedroom was filled with smoke immediately my wife heard a buzzing noise and then the sound of light switch being flipped off hard. I immediately woke my sister up in the front of the coach. Opened the door to get fresh air. Its 1:18 in the morning. Searched frantically for the source, had extinguisher ready. Opened every compartment underneath, the very rear of the RV has storage underneath. The smell of burning wires were strong in that comapartment. Removed side panels in compartment and found on the left side a outlet mounted to the floor had started on fire, cause was the shower drain had leaked without knowing and water had dripped right on top of the outlet that was mounted directly underneath the drain line. The outlet was for the hot water heater, burned the outlet completely melting the outlet and the metal inside the outlet.( Have pictures of all of it) and still have the outlet. Could have been overtaken by the smoke but thank god we werent! Firealarm never went off, battery is replaced yearly. We had only owned the camper a couple of years. Called Camping World in Little Falls, MN they have gave us the run around, told us to call Forrest River no response back. Called CW again nothing but run around for over two years. Nothing, no returned calls, no letter, no satisfaction. I have fixed the problem in our RV relocated a new outlet and wiring for the hot water heater. This issue could be deadly next time to someone else, thank god it wasnt us. I am informing of this issue cause the next person that has this happen could die from this serious issue. I assure you if I didnt think this is a life or death situation I would not be contacting you. This needs to be addressed. No help from dealer.

The vehicle was taken to the local dealer campers rv center (7700 w 70th st, shreveport, la 71129, (318) 938-5441) where it was diagnosed with needing the breaker box to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer had not been informed of failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
Faulty interior wall separatetion, exterior doors not aligning properly, ground wires in circuit breaker. 12 ground wires melted together. Majority of the ground wires came from the ac unit based off of the diagram. The circuit breaker panel was warped from the burnt wiring. Multiple ground wires screwed into one one ground wire slot. The vehicle was stationary and it was plugged into a 30amp outlet. I used a 30 amp converter with the 50 amp power cable.
So this is some of the stuff that needed to be completed: replace 7 way left turn signal replace brakes (there was a short and they locked up and started smoking) tail light lense was not secure and fell off as we drove down the road, another car told us it came off hot and cold faucets were reversed in the shower broken trim outside speaker not working plug for lights was faulty
We were proceeding south on i-5 just south of san clemente, ca, 55mph in slow (rt) lane pulling our 5th wheel. Tire (rt. Rr of tandem trailer) blew. I heard it and felt it right away pulled over to shoulder as quickly as i could safely, it took about 200 yds. Found that tread had partially blown off and wrapped itself tightly around the axle between the leaf spring bracket and the brake shoe plate causing the wheel to be unable to rotate and damaging the rim from dragging on the pavement. We were only 21 miles from our home from which we began our trip. I always check tire pressure at the beginning of our trip on tires of the trailer and my tow vehicle to insure that they are at maximum capacity. The incident occured at approximately noon on a clear sunny day in november, temp about 70 degrees. Blowout occured in the middle of the tread and not a sidewall.

Tl*the contact owns a 2008 forest river wildwood. Immediately after purchasing the vehicle on june 17, 2008, the electrical awning began to collect water, which prevented it from retracting on its own. The dealer stated that the sensor used to retract the awning did not exist and was replaced with a manual awning. A few days later, the converter box began to overheat and the vehicle lost power. The dealer stated that the fan for the converter box was defective. The converter box was replaced. The dealer returned the converter box to the manufacturer to be inspected. The manufacturer then returned the converter box to the dealer and stated that it was not defective. They suggested that there may have been an overload on the switches, which could cause a fire. The contact was informed to take the vehicle back to the dealer for repairs. After these failures, the vehicle began leaking propane, which caused the heater not to work. The manufacturer was notified again and they informed the contact to fax them all of the failure documentation in order to investigate the matter. The failure mileage was not applicable.

These campers have under rated ply tires. The tires should have a higher ply rating then what they come with. I had 5 tires blow out while the camper wasn't even full. I've tried to discuss this with Forest River and they basically said they don't care. The 14" 8 ply tire is under rated for the weight of the camper. This does cause unsafe issues on the highway. It could cause accidents, serious injuries or worse

First, he stated that the front strip exterior light located in the front of the trailer would not turn off while driving or while turned off. He also mentioned that the water pump would bypass the check valve and fill up the water tank; due to the failure, the water tank would overflow, and water would then leak out of the trailer. The manufacturer had been notified about the multiple failures on numerous occasions; however, the contact had yet to hear back from the manufacturer. The vehicle had yet to be repaired.
