TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 GMC ENVOY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT REMAINED ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE FILLER NECK OF THE FUEL TANK WAS CRACKED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. SMELLING OF GAS AND LEAKING ON GROUND, AS I'M READING THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WHICH IS VERY SERIOUS. I REALLY THINK GM NEEDS TO INCLUDE THIS 2003 GMC ENVOY AS PART OF THEIR RECALL AS WELL. The car's gas gauge and fuel range indicator are problematic. The fuel gauge quickly drops from a higher reading, like 3/4 full, to empty. After this, the gauge and the fuel range both fluctuate while driving, making it impossible to determine the fuel level.

THE ELECTRIC WIRING FOR THE WINDOWS AND SIDE MIRRORS WILL START MAKING A CLICKING NOISE AND WHEN I PUT THE KEY INTO THE IGNITION AND TURN THE KEY JUST ONE TURN THE FRONT PASSENGER WINDOW GOES COMPLETELY DOWN AND WILL NOT GO BACK UP UNTIL IT IS DONE CLICKING AND TURNING THE HEATED SEATS ON AND OFF. THE REGULATOR IS NOT BROKE. ALSO THE SIDE MIRRORS EVEN THOUGH THEY ARE PROGRAMMED WILL SOMETIMES JUST START MOVING AND ACT LIKE IT CANT MOVE ANYMORE AND MAKE A NOISE. THE MUSIC AND OR RADIO WILL GO OUT WHILE ITS TURNED ON, IT WILL CUT IN AND OUT AND THEN AFTER DRIVING A WHILE IT WONT CUT IN AND OUT. FOR THE WINDOW TO JUST ROLL DOWN IT USUALLY HAPPENS AFTER IT SAT ALL NIGHT. WONT GO BACK UP FOR AT LEAST 2 MINUTES AND YOU CAN SEE THE DOOR LIGHTS FLICKER AND CLICK.

SHIFT CABLE BROKE BETWEEN THE SHIFTER AND THE TRANSMISSION WHILE SHIFTING FROM DRIVE TO REVERSE TO PARK ON A STREET. IF THIS HAD HAPPEN WHILE SHIFTING DOWN GEAR TO LOWER SPEED WHILE DRIVING DOWN A HILL, A LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE WOULD HAVE HAPPEN THAT WOULD HAVE LED TO A CRASH WITH EXTREME PROPERTY DAMAGE AND MOST LIKELY DRIVER AND PASSENGER INJURY AND POSSIBLE DEATH. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO OURISMAN CHEVROLET IN MARLOW HEIGHTS MARYLAND FOR REPAIR AFTER THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER MANUALLY SHIFTED THE TRANSMISSION INTO DRIVE FROM UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE THAT WOULD'VE BEEN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS FOR THE TOW DRIVER TO DO IF THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN FACING DOWN HILL OR IN A HEAVY TRAFFIC SITUATION. THE GEAR SHIFT SELECTOR CABLE BECAME DISENGAGED FROM THE TRANSMISSION WHILE BACKING OUT OF A PARKING SPOT. ACCORDING TO MY MECHANIC, THERE IS A SMALL PLASTIC BUSHING THAT BECAME BRITTLE AND FELL OFF CAUSING THE FAILURE OF THE CABLE TO MAINTAIN A CONNECTION WITH THE TRANSMISSION. THIS CAUSED MY TRANSMISSION TO BECOME LOCKED IN THE PARK POSITION AND UNABLE TO BE MOVED INTO ANY OTHER DRIVE. WHILE I WAS IN A SAFE LOCATION, I'M CONCERNED THAT OTHER DRIVERS IN SIMILAR SITUATIONS WILL BECOME STRANDED IN LOCATIONS THAT ARE NOT SAFE. I CONDUCTED A RECALL SEARCH AND FOUND THAT THIS ITEM HAS NOT BEEN RECALLED. I PLACED A CALL TO GENERAL MOTORS AND LODGED A COMPLAINT. ACCORDING TO GM, THEY HAVE RECEIVED A NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ISSUE BUT ARE NOT ISSUING A RECALL AT THIS TIME. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 GMC ENVOY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, HE ATTEMPTED TO BRAKE AND THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE RELEASED SMOKE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC, WHO PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC TEST AND LOCATED THE FAILURE AT THE FRONT DRIVESHAFT HOUSING. THE FRONT DRIVE SHAFT HOUSING AXEL WAS BROKEN. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS ADDRESSING THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. I WENT INSIDE WAL-MART FOR MAYBE 1/2 HOUR AND WHEN I CAME OUT THE WINDOW WAS BUSTED OUT. WE THOUGHT SOME PUNK SMASHED THE WINDOW SO WE CALLED THE POLICE. THEY WATCHED THE VIDEO OF THE PARKING LOT AND THEY SAID THAT THERE WAS NO ONE BY THE CAR WHEN IT HAPPENED. ON 12/5/2013, I LEFT THE SCHNUCKS GROCERY STORE AROUND 4PM FOR HOME. WHEN I ARRIVED AT HOME, I BACKED IN THE GARAGE AND MY HUSBAND WAS WAITING AT THE GARAGE DOOR FOR ME SO HE COULD GET THE GROCERIES. AS I WAS GETTING OUT OF MY 2003 GMC ENVOY XL, MY HUSBAND WAS GETTING THE GROCERIES AND STARTED TO TELL ME SOMETHING WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN I HEARD THIS EXTREMELY LOUD POP/EXPLOSION (LIKE A GUN SHOT) AND GLASS SHATTERED EVERYWHERE. I DIDN'T KNOW WHAT HAPPENED AND IMMEDIATELY ASKED MY HUSBAND IF HE WAS OK. THE SHATTERED GLASS HAD CUT HIM ON HIS FOREHEAD. THERE WAS GLASS SHATTERED EVERYONE IN THE SUV, IN MY GROCERIES, IN THE GARAGE, IN MY HUSBAND'S HOODIE, AND EVEN ON MY 2013 CHARGER NEXT TO IT. THE HINGES WERE OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ENVOY WITH SOME HANGING GLASS STILL ATTACHED. AND WHAT'S EVEN MORE SHOCKING IS THAT THE REAR BROKEN WINDOW KEPT POPPING AT THE HINGES AND PIECES OF REMAINING GLASS WOULD CONTINUE TO BREAK OFF AND DROP. I CONTACTED GM ABOUT THE VEHICLE TO REPLACE MY WINDOW AND TO TELL THEM WHAT HAPPENED, BUT THEY SAID THAT SINCE I HAVE 137,000MILES AND HAD THE VEHICLE TEN YEARS, IT'S OUT OF WARRANTY. I TOLD THEM THAT WAS RIDICULOUS BECAUSE IT SHOULD NOT MATTER WHETHER IT'S OUT OF WARRANTY IF THE VEHICLE GM MADE IS DEFECTIVE BECAUSE THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH MY ENVOY UNTIL NOW. I'M PURSUING MATTERS FURTHER SO THEY HAVE NOT HEARD THE LAST FROM ME. I WOULD RECOMMEND TO ALSO CONTACT THE ATTORNEY GENERAL'S OFFICE TO FILE A COMPLAINT BECAUSE GM HAS TO BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THEIR ACTIONS. I bought a 2003 GMC Envoy 3/23/24. The main frame and sub-frame have extensive rot, and is unsafe to drive. It is available to inspect. They disguised frame damage and sold me an unsafe vehicle. I brought the car in to have the ac repaired in August 2024 and when they put it up on the lift that's when they saw the damage. This was Rogers Automotive in Westport MA. They told me at that time that it is unsafe to drive. It has not been inspected by any other parties at this time. We had no idea it was damaged, Rogers said it was sprayed to try to hide the damage.

WE HAVE BEEN TOLD BY TWO DIFFERENT REPAIR GARAGES THAT THE FRAME OF THE VEHICLE IS TOTALLY RUSTED AND DANGEROUS. WE HAVE 150,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE.

CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STAYS ON. HAD A DIAGNOSTIC DONE AND THEY SAID THERE'S A GAS LEAK COMING FROM THE GAS TANK FUEL INLET VALVE. COMMON PROBLEM FOR THE GMC ENVOY AND CORRECTION INVOLVES REPLACING THE WHOLE FUEL TANK COSTING AN AVERAGE $1,400. DANGEROUS TO DRIVE IF LEFT UNTREATED. CALLED GMC CORPORATE AND I DIDN'T GET ANY HELP. THEY SAID MY ENVOY WAS NOT UNDER ANY RECALLS. THEY SHOULD BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS DEFECT.

BULLETIN NO.:14423 DATE: NOVEMBER 2015 PART NUMBER: 15077622 TANK, FUEL (18.7 GAL.) THE ICV IS LOCATED ABOVE THE FULL FUEL LEVEL. A FRACTURED ICV COULD ALLOW FUEL VAPORS TO PASS THROUGH AND DROPLETS OF FUEL TO ACCUMULATE ON THE SIDE OF THE FUEL TANK AS IT PASSES OVER THE FRACTURE DURING REFUELING. IF THE ICV FRACTURES, THE VEHICLE'S SERVICE ENGINE SOON (SES) LIGHT MAY ILLUMINATE, AND YOU MAY NOTICE A FUEL ODOR AND/OR A FEW DROPS OF FUEL ON THE GROUND WHEN REFUELING THE VEHICLE. THIS HAS HAPPEN TO ME AND NOW MY TANK NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH GMC ENVOY REGARDLESS OF YEAR OR HOW LONG THEY ARE IN SERVICE. THE COMPANY NEEDS TO BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR POOR QUALITY OF PARTS ESPECIALLY WHEN IT IS A SAFETY CONCERN AND HAZARD WITH FUEL ODOR COMING INTO THE CAB OF THE VEHICLE AND SPILLING OUT WHEN GOING UP A HILL. BEING TOLD TO ONLY FILL MY GAS TANK UP HALF TO THREE QUARTERS FULL DUE TO THAT PART BEING BROKEN IS THE WRONG ANSWER. ISSUE: Hazard Warning/Turn Signal Flasher Module Failure. DESCRIPTION: Right front and rear turn signal and right front and rear hazard warning not working outside or inside vehicle. Replaced burned out right front turn signal/hazard. Replaced right rear turn signal/hazard due to corrosion on base of bulb. Looked at fixtures when replacing and all appeared good but right turn signals and right hazard warnings still not operational outside or inside vehicle. AVAILABLE FOR INSPECTION: Yes, upon request. RISK/DANGER: Cannot use right blinker or hazard warning flashers to notify approaching or oncoming vehicles of right turn or hazard which could cause other vehicles to crash into stopped or slowing vehichle. CONFIRMED: No. INSPECTED: Not by anyone other than myself [XXX] , daughter of [XXX] owner). ANY KIND OF WARNING & WHEN IT BEGAN: No warning or symptoms really, just didn't work one minute, then worked momentarily and then didn't work and has not worked since. Was taking vehicle in for required State inspection on when the above described issue occurred, so went back home so it would not fail inspection. Occurred during daytime hours. THE RIGHT TURN TRAILER LAMP IS PARTIALLY LIT WHEN TURN SIGNAL IS NOT ENGAGED. WHEN RIGHT TURN SIGNAL IS ENGAGED THE LEFT AND RIGHT TURN SIGNALS START FLASHING, BRAKE LIGHTS WORK NORMAL. THIS TURN SIGNAL ISSUE APPLY ONLY WHEN TRAILER ELECTRIC CIRCUIT IS PLUNGED IN TO THE TRAILER CIRCUIT. MY UNDERSTANDING THERE WAS A RECALL REGARDING THE FLASHER UNIT FOR THE 2003 ENVOY VEHICLE TURN SIGNALS. IT APPEARS THE TRAILER CIRCUIT HAS A SIMILAR ISSUE. BOTH THE VEHICLE AND TRAILER WORK OFF THE SAME FLASHER MODULE. SEE RECALL 05V198000. I PLAN TO REPLACE THE FLASHER UNIT TO CORRECT THIS DEFECT. IF YOU NEVER TOWED A TRAILER THIS ISSUE WOULD NOT BE DISCOVERED. WHEN TOWING A TRAILER DRIVER COULD BECOME CONFUSED WHEN YOUR MAKING A RIGHT TURN. THIS POTENTIALLY COULD RESULT IN AN ACCIDENT. THE TRAILER USED WAS A 5X10 FOOT SINGLE AXLE BOX TRAILER WITH FOUR WIRE ELECTRICAL CIRCUIT. I HAD NO ISSUES WHEN TOWED WITH A DIFFERENT MAKE OF TRUCK. I DID REPLACED BOTH TRAILER TAIL LIGHT ASSEMBLY AND ISSUE DID NOT CHANGE.

The contact owns a 2003 GMC Envoy. The contact stated that the headlights ceased to operate as needed. Upon taking the vehicle to a local Pep Boys, it was diagnosed that the electrical wiring harness was burned and needed to be replaced. Additionally, the bulbs needed to be replaced. The contact stated that the vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken back the local Pep Boys, who replaced the electrical wiring harness and the bulbs a second time; however, the failure persisted. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was unknown.

ON 6/3/2008, I PURCHASED 2 MICHELIN LTX M/S 245/65/17 TIRES FOR MY 2003 GMC ENVOY FROM, MILLENNIUM AUTOBODY & SERVICE INC., 1782 MAIN ST., BROCKTON, MA 02304. ON 10/22/2008 (AFTER ONLY 7969 MILES) THE TIRE BLEW OUT ON THE WAY TO FL- HAD IT BEEN REPLACED IN NY. THE TIRE WAS SHREDDED. ON 11/10/2008 (AFTER ONLY 9557 MILES ) THE 2ND TIRE WENT FLAT- I WAS ABLE TO PULL THE SUV OVER QUICKLY RECOGNIZING THE SAME SOUNDS AND VIBRATIONS FROM 1ST BLOW OUT. THIS TIRE WAS NOT SHREDDED. THERE WAS NO PUNCTURES/ CUTS TO THE TIRE. THE CLERK AT THE TIRE KINGDOM IN FL STATED THAT IT WAS A FAULTY TIRE VALVE STEM THAT HAD CAUSED THE TIRE TO FAIL. I CALLED HOME, AND MY FAMILY ADVISED ME THAT THERE HAD BEEN REPORTS OF BAD VALVE STEMS ON TRUCKS AND SUV'S. I CONTACTED THE LOCATION WHERE I PURCHASED THE TIRES TO REPORT THE TWO TIRES FAILING- THEY REQUESTED THAT I BRING THE TIRES BACK WHEN I CAME BACK TO MA. I DID NOT HAVE THE 1ST TIRE- BUT I DID GET AND STILL HAVE THE 2ND TIRE. MILLENNIUM AUTOBODY SAID THEY WERE GOING TO TALK TO TIRE REP AND GET BACK TO ME- BUT IT HAS BEEN SEVERAL WEEKS NOW AND STILL NO WORD. I LIVE IN ARIZONA WHERE IT IS HOT AND DRY. I WAS COMING HOME FROM THE MALL WITH MY 2 CHILDREN ON THE EXPRESSWAY WHEN I HAD THE DRIVER'S SIDE REAR TIRE BLOW OUT. I WAS STRANDED ON THE EXPRESSWAY FOR AN HOUR WITH 2 SMALL CHILDREN. MY VEHICLE IS FAIRLY NEW - 2003 GMC ENVOY XL AND THERE IS ONLY 38,000 MILES ON THE TIRES. WHEN THE TOW TRUCK CAME TO CHANGE OUT THE TIRE THEY INDICATED THAT IT WAS VERY UNUSUAL FOR A MICHELIN TIRE TO BLOW THE RADIALS LIKE IT DID. I HAVE MODEL P245/65R17. I STILL HAVE THE TIRE AVAILABLE, BUT NOW AM HAVING TO HAVE BOTH REAR TIRES REPLACED SO THEY WEAR EVENLY AND I SEE THAT SOME MODELS SIMILAR TO MINE 245/75R16 HAVE BEEN RECALLED. I HAVE NOT REPLACED THE TIRE YET, BECAUSE I AM HOPEING SOMEONE CAN GIVE ME SOME INSIGHT TO THE PROBLEM AND I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF I SHOULD HAVE ALL THE TIRES REPLACED NOT JUST THE REAR ONES.

GRADUAL COOLANT LOSS OVER TIME AND NO EVIDENCE OF LEAK. THIS WAS DUE TO A CRACK IN THE CYLINDER HEAD THAT GM ADMITTED TO KNOWING ABOUT IN TSB 06-06-01-019B ON JUNE 12, 2007). COOLANT WAS SLOWLY LEAKING INTO THE OIL, BUT WAS UNNOTICEABLE UNTIL IT STARTED TO AFFECT OIL PRESSURE FROM THE OIL BECOMING SLUSHY AND RUINING THE ENGINE. THIS ENDED UP RESULTING IN RESULTED IN THE LOW ENGINE OIL LIGHT SUDDENLY COMING ON AND THE CAR TO STOP RUNNING ON A HIGHWAY. THE ENGINE STARTED STEAMING AND THE CAR WAS OVERHEATING. MECHANIC IS NOW SAYING THE ENGINE IS IN AN UNOPERABLE SHAPE DUE TO DRIVING WITH CONTINUED LOW OIL PRESSURE (NO LIGHT HAD APPEARED UNTIL DAY OF INCIDENT). GM HAD SENT OUT A BULLETIN ADMITTING TO THE ISSUE BUT DID NOTHING TO NOTIFY THEIR CUSTOMERS. THEY SHOULD IMMEDIATELY RECALL THE AFFECTED VEHICLES AND/OR PAY FOR A REPLACEMENT. I HAD JUST PUT IN A NEW TRANSMISSION TO MY GMC ENVOY, EXPECTING IT TO LAST FOR YEARS.

MY 2003 GMC ENVOY JUST TURNS OFF AT ANY GIVEN MOMENT. OUT OF NO WHERE, WHILE DRIVING, WAITING AT A RED LIGHT OR STOPPED AT A STOP SIGN MY CAR JUST SHUTS DOWN/TURNS OFF. IT'S BEEN DOING THIS FOR YEARS. VERY DANGEROUS AND UNSAFE. SECONDLY THE "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" LIGHT ON MY 2003 GMC REMAINS ON. WHILE OPERATING VEHICLE, WINDSHIELD WIPERS WILL COME ON WITHOUT WARNING AND CANNOT BE TURNED OFF WITH THE STANDARD WIPER CONTROLS. IS NECESSARY TO PULL THE WIPER FUSE TO STOP THE WIPERS. IF CAUGHT IN A RAIN SHOWER WHILE IN TRAFFIC WITH FUSE PULLED, HAVE NO WAY TO TURN ON WIPERS. VERY DANGEROUS. THIS WAS ADDRESSED IN NHTSA REFERENCE #04V046000, BUT OUR VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. HOWEVER, THE SPEEDOMETER STOPPED ON 50 MPH WHEN TRUCKWAS SITTING STILL, SOMETIMES HIGHER NUMBER. CALLED GMC REGARDING THE SPEEDOMETER, NO CALL BACK, AND THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO ABOUT. The contact owns a 2003 GMC Envoy. The contact stated that while in drive(D), the vehicle shut off and then restarted. The message “Service Engine Soon” was displayed. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the instrument cluster needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer who installed the original instrument cluster, but the failure persisted. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 98,000.

I NOTICED A ELECTRICAL BURNING SMELL WHILE DRIVING ON A SIDE STREET. THE ENGINE MADE AN UNUSUAL NOISE SO I PULLED OVER, TURNED THE CAR OFF AND PUT ON THE HAZARD LIGHTS. WHILE WAITING FOR THE TOW TRUCK, THE CAR STARTED WITH NO KEY IN THE IGNITION. THE CAR RAN FOR A SHORT TIME THEN STOPPED AND ATTEMPTED TO RESTART ITSELF ABOUT 5 TIMES. OUR MECHANIC TOOK A LOOK AT IT AND SAID THERE HAD BEEN A FIRE IN THE FUSE BOX. I TOOK PICTURES OF THE CHARRED REMAINS OF THE FUSE BOX, COVER AND CONNECTORS. MOST OF THE PLASTIC CONNECTORS UNDER THE FUSE BOX COULD NOT BE REMOVED BECAUSE THEY HAD MELTED AND WERE FUSED ONTO THE BOX. HE NOTED THE FIRE SEEMED TO ORIGINATE FROM FUSE 46, THE HEADLAMP DRIVER MODULE. I GOT HOME ONE EVENING AND WHEN I TURNED THE IGNITION KEY TO SHUT THE TRUCK OFF THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO RUN. THE DEALER SAID THAT IT WAS A WIRING PROBLEM AND THE IGNITION WIRING HAD TO BE REDONE; (THE COST WAS $1600.00) I STARTED A DIALOG WITH GM AND THEY ENGAGED ME WITH SEVERAL CONVERSATIONS; WHICH LED ME TO BELIEVE THAT THEY WOULD PICK UP THE COST; AS ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS WERE NOT PART OF ANY SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE THAT I AS A OWNER WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR. WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AT NORMAL OPERATING SPEED VEHICLE LOSES OIL PRESSURE CAUSING IT TO DROP TO 0 AND MESSAGE APPEARS TO STOP ENGINE. BOTH INCIDENTS ARE SAFETY HAZARDS AND CAN CAUSE SERIOUS LIFE AN DEATH INCIDENTS IF ISSUES ARE NOT ADDRESSED BY THE CORPORATION. THIS OCCUR ON INTERSTATE 66 IN WASHINGTON, DC. IMMEDIATE RECALL OF ALL VEHICLES FROM GMC NEEEDS TO BE INITIATED.

CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON INSTRUMENT CLUSTER. DIAGNOSTICS INDICATED A CODE PO 442. THIS CODE IS INDICATIVE OF A FUEL SYSTEM LEAK IN THE EVAPORATIVE EMISSION SYSTEM. REPLACED GAS CAP. PROBLEM NOT RESOLVED. FILLED VEHICLE WITH GASOLINE IN OCTOBER 2010 AND SEVERAL TIMES SINCE. STRONG ODOR OF GASOLINE IS PRESENT. EACH TIME FUEL NOZZLE FAILS TO SHUT OFF FUEL FROM GASOLINE PUMP AND GASOLINE IS SPILLED ON THE GROUND NEAR DRIVER SIDE REAR DOOR CREATING AN ENVIRONMENTAL AND MAJOR SAFETY HAZARD. VEHICLE NEVER IN ACCIDENT OR MODIFIED IN ANY WAY. VEHICLE HAS 62,000 MILES. A COURTESY GENERAL MOTORS REPAIR PROGRAM IS IN PLACE FOR THESE VEHICLES IF THE LONG WHEELBASE MODELS. NUMEROUS OCCURRENCES IN THE SHORT WHEELBASE MODELS ALSO. THIS IS A KNOWN DEFECT ACCORDING TO THE GM DEALER THAT SERVICES THE VEHICLE, BUT THEY WANT OVER $1500 TO REPLACE THE FUEL TANK AND THE TANK UNIT WHICH INCLUDES THE FUEL PUMP, GAUGE, AND HOSE CONNECTIONS. THERE IS NO GUARANTEE THIS WILL FIX THE DIAGNOSTIC CODE THAT SETS THE CHECK ENGINE LAMP, OR THE PROBLEM OF GASOLINE LEAKAGE/SPILLAGE. THE VEHICLE WILL NOT PASS A STATE SAFETY INSPECTION AND THEREFORE IS NOT ALLOWED ON THE ROAD. A FORCED RECALL SHOULD ABSOLUTELY BE MADE FOR THESE VEHICLES. AFTER $600 AND ALL DAY VISIT WITH DEALER, THE PIECE BROKEN WAS THE SIZE OF A 2"-4" BLOCK OF PLASTIC. THIS LITTLE PIECE JUST QUICK WORKING, IT WAS REFERRED AS A CONTROL SWITCH OF SOME SORT UNDER THE DASH BOARD. SINCE WE HAVE THIS VEHICLE THE HEATING SYSTEM FAILS TO WORK PROPERLY. WE HAVE REPEATEDLY HAD THE DEALER AND A G.M. REPRESENTATIVE TRY TO REPAIR THIS PROBLEM. AFTER THEIR ATTEMPTS THE SYSTEM STILL DOESN'T OPERATE CORRECTLY AND NOW I AM LEFT WITH A DEFECTIVE AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM THAT ONLY WORKS SOMETIMES. I AM HEARING FROM OTHER PEOPLE THAT KNOW WHO HAVE THIS VEHICLE AND THE CHEVROLET VERSION THE TRAILBLAZER THAT THEY HAVE VERY SIMILAR PROBLEMS. IN THE WRONG CIRCUMSTANCES NOT HAVING HEAT/DEFROSTER WORKING PROPERLY COULD BE A SAFETY HAZARD, YET THIS FAILS TO BECOME A RECALL OR ALERT TO DRIVERS. WE HAD IT RECONDITIONED AT THIS DEALERSHIP LAST YEAR, SPENDING $4000.00; WE HAD IT INSPECTED AT THIS DEALERSHIP WITH THE MASSACHUSETTS VEHICLE CHECK; IT PASSED THE FRONT END CHECK AND FRAME CHECK ON 8/4/17. I WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE IN LATE DECEMBER, AND HIT SEVERAL DEEP POTHOLES CAUSED BY AN ICE STORM; SHORTLY THEREAFTER I LOST STEERING CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. GMC ISSUED A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN STATING THAT SOME ENVOY MODELS SUFFERED FROM EXTENSIVE FRAME CORROSION. WHY DID ROBERTSON'S GMC PASS THE VEHICLE ON THE SAFETY CHECK, AND WHY WAS I NOT INFORMED OF THE VEHICLE'S FRAME CORROSION BEFORE I SPENT THE $4000.00 RECONDITIONING IT? I'VE CONTACTED THE BUREAU OF AUTOMOTIVE REPAIR BECAUSE PURRFECT AUTO IN FULLERTON,CA LIED ABOUT FIXING MY CAR. TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2003 GMC ENVOY XL. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE LOST CONTROL WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH ON A SLIGHTLY ICY ROADWAY. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE AND THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE LIMITED SLIP DIFFERENTIAL SYSTEM FAILED TO ENGAGE DURING THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT, AS WELL AS A PASSENGER SUFFERED MINOR INJURIES DURING THE CRASH. IN ADDITION, THE DRIVER OF THE SECOND VEHICLE INVOLVED IN THE CRASH SUFFERED MINOR INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AND TOWED TO AN INSURANCE LOT. AN AUTHORIZED DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER WERE MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THEY WOULD INVESTIGATE THE VEHICLE. MY VEHICLE WAS MAKING A JET LIKE SOUND ON START UP AND WHILE DRIVING AND EVENTUALLY THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. IT ALSO WAS MAKING A CLICKING SOUND FROM THE ELECTRONIC HEATING UNIT. I TOOK IT IN TO A CERTIFIED GMC DEALER AND THEY SAID THE CLUTCH FAN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED (EXPENSIVE REPAIR). COULD NOT TELL WHERE THE CLICKING WAS COMING FROM AT THE TIME (1/6/11 CLICKING WILL NOT STOP - ENDED UP BEING A DOOR ACTUATOR). I DID SOME RESEARCH ON THESE PROBLEM AND THEY ARE VERY COMMON IN THESE VEHICLE. I CALLED GMC CUSTOMER SERVICE TO MAKE A COMPLAINT BECAUSE AT A LITTLE OVER 59000 MILES THESE PARTS SHOULD NOT HAVE GONE BAD. I WISH GMC WOULD CONSIDER A RECALL ON THIS PROBLEM AS WELL AS OTHER MAJOR THINGS.

MY 2003 GMC ENVOY XL SLE HAS A LATCH PROBLEM ON THE BACK DOORS, IT HAS ALREADY BEEN FIXED BUT ISN'T RESOLVED AND THE DRIVER HEADLAMP CONSTANTLY BURNS OUT, 3 TIMES IN THE LAST 2 MONTHS. I CALLED ON A RECALL BUT THERE ISN'T ONE. ITS GOING TO CAUSE AN ACCIDENT AT SOME POINT. THE LAST TIME I TRIED TO FIX IT THE SOCKET WAS BURNT AND PLASTIC MELTED, THAT COULD'VE CAUSED A MAJOR FIRE. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 GMC ENVOY. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AT UNKNOWN SPEEDS, THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER DOORS INDEPENDENTLY FLEW OPEN. THE CONTACT WAS HOLDING ONTO THE DOOR WHILE DRIVING UNTIL SHE WAS ABLE TO BRING THE VEHICLE TO A STOP. THE DEALER ADVISED HAVING A DIAGNOSTIC PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF FAILURE. IN ADDITION, WHEN FILLING THE FUEL TANK, THE GASOLINE WOULD SPEW BACK OUT OF THE FILLER TUNE AND ONTO THE CONTACT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THROAT OF GAS TANK LEAKING ON A 2003 ENVOY. REVIEWING INTERNET, FOUND MANY SIMILAR PROBLEMS ON THE ENVOY'S AND STATED IN 2007 THAT NHTSA WAS INVESTIGATING. MECHANIC STATED VERY UNUSUAL TO LEAK IN THAT SPOT. ALSO, HAVE REPLACED BOTH HEAD LIGHT SOCKETS DUE TO BURNING UP. HAVE TALKED TO MANY ENVOY OWNERS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. FIRST PROBLEM OCCURRED IN 2008, DRIVING TO WORK IN 2003 GMC ENVOY SLT (ORIGINAL OWNER) HEARD CLUNKING NOISE WHEN DOWNSHIFTING. TOOK CAR IN TO SHOP FOR REPAIR (JUST OVER 50K MILES SO OUT OF WARRANTY). SHOP EXPLAINED THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED $4000 WITH ONE YEAR WARRANTY. SINCE I WAS PLANNING ON DRIVING CROSS COUNTRY DECIDED TO DO THE REPAIR. ONE YEAR LATER, DRIVING AND TRYING TO ACCELERATE ON A RAMP TO FIND SUV STUCK IN SECOND GEAR AND WOULDN'T ACCELERATE WHILE RPM KEPT GOING UP. ALSO HEARD CLUNKING WHEN DOWNSHIFTING. PULLED OVER AND TRIED TO GET GEARS TO SHIFT BY SLOWING DOWN AND SPEEDING UP (TO GET RPM TO DROP). DROVE CAR TO DEALER WHO STATED I NEEDED A NEW TRANSMISSION (AGAIN). DEALER REMOVED TRANSMISSION AND "FOUND INPUT BUSHING IN PUMP BAD. AND REVERSE DRUM. AND HAD HEAVY METAL CONTAMINATION". TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 GMC ENVOY. AFTER THE CONTACT PLACED FUEL IN HIS VEHICLE, HE CONTINUED TO SMELL AN ODOR OF GASOLINE. HE CRAWLED UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED FUEL LEAKING ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE GAS TANK. THE GAS TANK WELD WAS RUSTED AND CRACKED, CAUSING FUEL TO LEAK OUT OF THE TANK. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 GMC ENVOY. THE CONTACT SMELLED GASOLINE, BUT DID NOT PAY IT ANY ATTENTION INITIALLY. HIS SON ENTERED THE VEHICLE LATER AND ALSO SMELLED THE STRONG ODOR. THE FOLLOWING DAY THE CONTACT FILLED UP THE TANK WITH GASOLINE AND THE SMELL INTENSIFIED. WHEN HE ARRIVED HOME, HE NOTICED A FUEL LEAK BY THE REAR DRIVER SIDE WHEEL. A MECHANIC STATED THAT THE LEAK ORIGINATED FROM THE TOP OF THE FUEL TANK WHERE THE FUEL PUMP CONNECTS. THE MECHANIC STATED THERE WAS A LEAK IN THE FUEL TANK. THERE IS A DEFECT INVESTIGATION FOR THE FUEL SYSTEM, NHTSA ACTION# EA07009. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 98,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 108,000. THE VIN AND ENGINE SIZE WERE UNAVAILABLE.

WHILE TRAVELING AT OR LESS THAN 35 MPH, ON BRIGHT SUNNY DAY AND ON DRY PAVEMENT VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP, BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. LET IT UP AND PRESSED IT TO THE FLOOR AGAIN WITHOUT SUCCESS. ON THIRD ATTEMPT JAMMED THE PEDAL TO THE FLOOR AND THE ENTIRE CAR LOCKED UP. THE STEERING WHEEL WOULDN'T TURN, AT LEAST ONE WHEEL LOCKED, HIT THE CAR THAT WAS STOPPED AT THE STOP LIGHT. 2003 GMC ENVOY WITH A LIST OF PROBLEMS **NAR**CC THE CONSUMER BEGAN TO HEAR A KNOCKING AND PINGING IN THE ENGINE ON COLD STARTS AND FELT A HESITATION WHEN THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION SHIFTED INTO GEAR. AFTER MANY COMPLAINTS, IT WAS FINALLY DISCOVERED THE ENGINE KNOCK WAS DUE TO SHORTER PISTONS IN THE RE-DESIGNED ENGINE AND THE HESITATION IN THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTING REQUIRED REPROGRAMMING. THE CONSUMER WAS TOLD HE WOULD HAVE TO LIVE WITH THE ENGINE KNOCK, BECAUSE IT COULD BE MORE TROUBLE TAKING THE ENGINE APART. ON A SEPARATE OCCASION, THE ENGINE STALLED DUE TO THE BATTERY DYING. FROM APRIL 2004 TO OCTOBER 2004 THE BATTERY FAILED SEVERAL TIMES AND HAD TO BE RE-CHARGED. DURING THAT SAME TIME THE ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND EACH TIME IT HAPPENED, THE DEALER WOULD HAVE TO REPROGRAM THE ENGINE COMPUTER. THE RADIO WAS NOT FUNCTIONING PROPERLY WHICH PRIMARILY CONSISTED OF STATIC. THE DRIVER INFORMATION CENTER CONTROL KNOBS AS WELL AS THE RADIO KNOBS WORE OUT. THE FRONT CENTER CONSOLE WAS LOOSE. IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE ENGINE LIGHT WAS COMING ON BECAUSE THE THIRD STOP LIGHT THAT'S ON THE TOP OF THE LIFTGATE MALFUNCTIONED. THERE WAS A SHORT CIRCUIT IN THE STOP LIGHT. THE COOLING FAN BROKE, THE BRAKES AND THE LEFT FRONT HEAD LAMP HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE REAR TAIL LIGHTS, DIRECTIONAL AND SIGNAL LIGHTS HAVE BEEN REPLACED SEVERAL TIMES. THE LUG NUT BROKE WHILE A REPLACEMENT TIRE WAS BEING MOUNTED ON THE VEHICLE. THE FRONT STABILIZER LINKAGE WAS REPLACED. THE GAS TANK HAD TO BE REPLACED ALONG WITH THE FUEL LINES AND A SEAL ON THE TANK DUE TO A LEAK. THE SEAT BELT WAS DESIGNED POORLY AND THE BELT CUTS INTO THE CONSUMERS NECK. I HAD A FLAT TIRE AND WENT TO USE THE GMC PROVIDED JACK AND SPARE TIRE. THE JACK WAS HELD IN BY A LARGE RUBBER BAND THAT BROKE AS SOON AS I STARTED TO REMOVE IT. WHEN I WENT TO LOWER THE SPARE TIRE DOWN I HEARD A "CRUNCH" COME FROM THE GEAR END OF THE SPARE TIRE PULLEY. THE SPARE TIRE PULLEY, WHICH WAS MADE OF PLASTIC, BROKE INTO PIECES AND WOULDN'T ALLOW THE TIRE TO BE LOWERED ANYMORE OR RAISED. HAVE HAD IT INTO DEALER SEVERAL TIMES FOR LOUD SQUEAK UNDER VEHICLE WHEN MAKING TURNS OR GOING OVER BUMPS AT SLOW SPEEDS. NO CORRECTIVE ACTION BY DEALER. COULD NOT GET VEHICLE OUT OF "PARK". FAULTY DRIVER SIDE SEAT BELT THAT WILL NOT RELEASE TO FASTEN. I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR IN AND THE REPAIR PERSON SAID THAT THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG, AND THAT IT JUST WAS CATCHING ON SOMETHING. ALSO, THE PASSENGER SIDE DOOR BEHIND THE DRIVERS SEAT WAS VERY HARD TO OPEN THE REPAIR PERSON AT THE SAME DEALERSHIP BROKE THE HANDLE TRYING TO OPEN THE DOOR. THE REPAIR SHOP DID FIX THE HANDLE FOR FREE, HOWEVER THE DOOR REMAINS STILL VERY HARD TO OPEN AND I WOULD NOT USE THIS PARTICULAR DOOR. AFTER A WHILE THE DOOR WOULD NOT CLOSE AND THE DOOR LATCH HAD TO BE REPLACED AT MY EXPENSE. THE BACK WINDOW WOULD NOT GO ALL THE WAY UP AND THE ACTUATOR HAD TO BE REPLACED ALSO. THE 2003 ENVOY WE PURCHASED GAVE US NUMEROUS PROBLEMS, INCLUDING A NUMBER OF THE ONES OTHER OWNERS MENTIONED HERE, LIKE THE GLASS LIFTGATE THAT DOES NOT OPERATE PROPERLY, VARIOUS ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS, BUT ESPECIALLY THE OUTSIDE REAR VIEW MIRRORS THAT MOVE ON THEIR OWN NO MATTER HOW MANY TIMES THEY WERE SUPPOSEDLY FIXED BY SERVICE TECHNICIANS. PROBLEMS WITH VEHICLE'S WINDSHIELD WIPERS.*MR THE CONSUMER NOTICED THAT EVERYTIME THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS WERE USED, THEY WOULD BOUNCE ACROSS THE WINDSHIELD SO MUCH THAT THE CONSUMER WAS UNABLE TO SEE AND IN ORDER FOR THEM TO BE USED, THE CONSUMER HAD TO KEEP TURNING THEM ON AND OFF TO SEE PROPERLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AT LEAST FOUR TIMES TO HAVE THE WIPERS ADJUSTED AND REPLACED. THE LAST TIME HOWEVER, IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THERE WAS A BOW IN THE WINDSHIELD AND IT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. AFTER HAVING THE WINDSHIELD REPLACED, THE CONSUMER CONTINUED TO EXPERIENCE PROBLEMS. THERE WAS A FILM ON THE WINDSHIELD AND WHEN THE WIPERS WERE USED, THE CONSUMER COULD NOT SEE PROPERLY. ON TWO OCCASIONS THE 4WD/A4WD LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE WAS STUCK IN 4WD AND THEN ALL THE LIGHTS WENT OUT AND THE TRANSMISSION WAS SLIPPING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THE COMPUTER HAD TO BE REPROGRAMMED. THE CONSUMER ALSO STATED THE REAR WIPERS FAILED AND THE DEALER FOUND A NUT LOOSE AND THE FRONT WASHER HOSE DID NOT WORK AND THERE WAS A KINK IN IT. WHEN APPROACHING A STOP LIGHT HAVE HAD INSTANCES WHERE THE CAR WILL NOT STOP, AND THE BRAKE PEDAL IS TO THE FLOOR THIS HAS HAPPENED 3 TIMES. TOOK IT INTO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THIS IS THE WAY THE BRAKES FUNCTION ON THIS VEHICLE????? HAVE HAD INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS WITH THE 4 WHEEL DRIVE. SURPRISINGLY, THE AIRBAG DIDN'T EVEN DEPLOY. THE INSURANCE COMPANY DECLARED THE VEHICLE TOTAL WRECKED AND UNREPAIRABLE. AS EXPECTED, GMC DECLINED RESPONSIBILITIES. THEY SENT A SO CALLED INDEPENDENT INVESTIGATOR BUT THEY WOULDN'T GIVE ME HIS PHONE NUMBER. THE REPORT THEY SENT CONTAINED ONLY RAW DATA ABOUT THE AIRBAG AND NOTHING ABOUT THE STEERING WHEEL.
