When I was driving my 98 Honda accord lx . I notice it shuts off itself if hitting a hard bump . Then I noticed online they had folks saying that the ignition switch was beginning to be a big issue . I nearly died after picking my 2 kids up from school the car shut off in the middleof the intersection.it’s even a recall on the insurance app about the same part . Do I need to call Honda myself and I shouldn’t have to pay out of pocket for this . Everything shuts off no lies no throttle until I shift in nuetral to crank vehicle up

The contact owns a 1998 Honda Accord. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the vehicle lost motive power and stalled without warning. Additionally, the battery had to be recharged on several occasions in order to start the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who was unable to duplicate the failure. No repair was performed and the failure persisted. The manufacturer was not contacted regarding the failures. The failure mileage was 155,000.

TRANSMISSION IS FAILING. IT IS SLIPPING BETWEEN SHIFTS, WHICH LEADS TO SPIKED RPMS BECAUSE OF THE DELAYED SHIFT. THE SHIFT IS ALSO VERY HARSH, WHERE IT JERKS, SHAKES, AND RUMBLES THE CAR. GEARS ALSO GRIND OCCASIONALLY BETWEEN STOP AND FIRST GEAR.

THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED TO OUR CAR PLEASE SEE BELOW FROM THE OTHER HONDA OWNER'S DESCRIPTION: AT 100,000 MILES MY 1998 HONDA ACCORD BEGAN JERKING AND BUCKING WHEN SHIFTING FROM FIRST TO SECOND GEAR AND ALSO WHEN ACCELERATING IN HIGHER GEAR. I WAS ALMOST KILLED BY A SEMI TRUCK BEHIND ME WHEN THE CAR BUCKED AND DECELERATED RAPIDLY. THESE ARE DANGEROUS CARS! THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND IN THE LOWER GEARS THE CAR WOULD GO INTO "LIMP MODE" AND I WOULD HAVE TO PULL OFF THE ROAD AND RESTART THE ENGINE IN ORDER TO DRIVE IT. I TOOK THE CAR TO A VERY REPUTABLE MECHANIC AND HE DIAGNOSED A COMPLETE FAILURE OF THE TRANSMISSION AND TOLD ME THIS WAS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THIS YEAR AND MODEL OF HONDA. TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION WOULD COST $3,400.00. AFTER RESEARCHING I HAVE COME TO LEARN THAT IT IS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT IN THE TRANSMISSION THAT HONDA HAS BEEN AWARE OF AND HAS DONE NOTHING TO RECTIFY. I CONTACTED HONDA AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY "SYMPATHIZE WITH THE PROBLEM I HAD BUT BECAUSE THEY HAVE NO RECALLS OR ALERTS IN THEIR SYSTEM" THERE WAS NOTHING THEY WOULD DO TO HELP. THERE HAVE BEEN HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT TRANSMISSION FAILURE IN 1998 HONDA ACCORDS AND IN MY CASE IT ALMOST COST ME MY LIFE. IF YOU HAVE A SIMILAR PROBLEM, PLEASE REPORT IT TO THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY SAFETY ADMINISTRATION.

THIS IS MY SECOND HONDA I OWNED AND I HAVE BEEN DEALING WITH MY SECOND HONDA'S TRANSMISSION PROBLEM FOR A ABOUT 6 MONTHS NOW. I FIRST NOTICED A SLIPPING AND A DELAY IN SPEED WHEN I STARTED TO DRIVE IT. AT FIRST I THOUGHT IT WAS A FUEL PUMP ISSUE BUT THEN IT STARTED TO SLIP MORE SEVERELY TO THE POINT I ALMOST WRECKED TRYING TO MAKE A LEFT HAND TURN INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. I HAVE SEVERAL INCIDENTS WHERE THIS CAR HAS ALMOST CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO A MECHANIC, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON. HE SAID IT WAS A SHIFT SOLENOID, $365 DOLLARS LATER JUST FOR THE PART ALONE, NO FIX. THE SAME SLIPPING AND JERKING CONTINUED. I HAVE LOOKED FOR A GOOD PRICE FOR A TRANSMISSION AND IT COST ABOUT $1,800> TO GET A THE TRANSMISSION INSTALLED WITH LABOR. A PRICE THAT I AM NOT WILLING TO PAY. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1998 HONDA ACCORD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER ADDING OIL TO THE VEHICLE, HE NOTICED OIL LEAKING ONTO THE GROUND AND NONE APPEARED ON THE DIPSTICK. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN LOCAL MECHANIC WHERE THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED THAT THE OIL SEAL HAD FRACTURED FROM THE VEHICLE. The contact owns a 1998 Honda Accord Sedan. The contact stated stopped at a traffic light, a second vehicle crashed full onto the rear bumper of her vehicle. The contact stated that her trunk and side rear panels were crushed. The contact stated that the second vehicle crashed her vehicle twice in the rear due to the second vehicle had still been accelerating. The second impact sent the contact's vehicle forward, a second time, into the street curb. The front bumper and the driver-side front tire suffered damage. The bumper was crushed and the driver-side tire had been deflated. The contact stated that the air bags did not deploy. The contact said she hit the steering wheel with her chest and was rendered unconscious, she had bruises on both feet, shins, and knees. The contact had not been able to move her arms without pain and had pain in her chest, and collar bones. The contact thinks she had hit the side and roof of her vehicle with her head because the top of her head and the left side hurt. The contact stated that her son was bruised on both legs, knees, and shins. She said that he had back pain as well. The contact and son were driven by a friend to the Emergency Room. There were no police on the scene. The second vehicle, which was a light truck, had suffered no damage and drove away. The contact had the vehicle towed to her residence. The vehicle had not been diagnosed by a dealer or independent mechanic. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. Honda refuses to replace recalled airbags. I've been trying for a year and even when they "order" the part they don't have it when I arrive. This has happened repeatedly. I was in a car accident today and the airbags didn't deploy and they should have. After reading all the online complaints I feel lucky they didn't deploy and extract flying metal pieces. THE AIR CONDITIONING CONDENSATE DRAINS ONTO THE SUBFRAME ASSEMBLY SUPPORTING THE ENGINE. THERE IS A RUST HOLE IN THE TOP OF THE FRAME AT THIS LOCATION, FIRST REPORTED BY THE DEALER TECH AND NOTED AS 'COMMON'. MY MECHANIC AND I WATCHED IT GROW FOR A COUPLE YEARS TO THE POINT NOW WHERE HE SAYS IT'S BECOMING RISKY TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE BECAUSE OF THE LIKELIHOOD OF CATASTROPHIC FAILURE.

THE AC DRIP TUBE IS AIMED RIGHT AT THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE SUBFRAME AND RUSTS IT OUT OVER TIME. JUST RECENTLY I HAD THE SUBFRAME TOTALLY FAIL AND SNAP IN HALF DUE TO THIS RUST. THE SCARY PART WAS THAT I HAD JUST GOTTEN OFF THE HIGHWAY AND WAS ONLY GOING 5 MPH WHEN IT HAPPENED. IF IT HAD HAPPENED FIVE MINUTES SOONER THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN A MUCH WORSE SITUATION. NOTICE IN THE PICTURE I ATTACH THAT THE WHOLE CORNER OF THE SUBFRAME IS RUSTED OUT EVEN THOUGH THE REST OF THE FRAME AND BODY IS RUST FREE. THIS HAPPENED WHILE MAKING A TURN IN A FLAT PARKING LOT AT ABOUT 5 MPH. THIS IS A WELL-DOCUMENTED ISSUE ON ALL 97-02 HONDA ACCORD AND 00-03 ACURA CL VEHICLES SINCE THEY ARE THE SAME BODY/PLATFORM. I WENT TO A JUNKYARD RECENTLY TO SEE IF I COULD FIND A GOOD SUBFRAME TO REPLACE MINE WITH AND EVERY SINGLE HONDA ACCORD AND ACURA CL IN THE LOT WAS RUSTED OUT EXACTLY THE SAME WAY. THIS CLEARLY IS A SAFETY ISSUE SINCE THE SUBFRAME HAS THREE OF THE FOUR ENGINE MOUNTS ON IT AND THE SUSPENSION IS ALL CONNECTED TO IT AS WELL.

CLEAR COAT AND PAINT HAS STARTED TO CHIP AND PEAL. THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS MAKE YEAR AND MODEL AND HONDA IS AWARE. TO NO FAULT OF MY OWN NEEDING TO GET THIS PROBLEM FIXED ASAP. AT ONE TIME A LARGE PIECE OF THE CLEAR COAT CAME OFF AND HIT MY WINDSHIELD AND STUCK TO MY WINDSHIELD AND I HAD TO PULL OVER TO REMOVE IT FROM MY WINDSHIELD TO AVOID HAVING THIS HAZARD TO MYSELF AND OTHERS.

I WAS TRYING TO PARK MY 1998 HONDA ACCORD INTO A PARKING SPOT IN FRONT OF A HALLMARK STORE AND RIGHT BEFORE I TRIED TO PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND SHUT OFF THE IGNITION, MY CAR ACCELERATED SUDDENLY ON ITS OWN AND WENT THROUGH THE PLATE GLASS WINDOWS IN THE FRONT OF THE STORE. I HAD MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE AND WAS TRYING TO GET IT TO STOP AND IT WENT THROUGH THE PLATE GLASS WINDOW IN A SPLIT SECOND. I DID NOT HAVE TIME TO THINK, IT HAPPENED SO FAST. I WAS NOT HURT AND THE EMPLOYEES WERE NOT HURT, BUT SECONDS BEFORE THE CRASH, THE EMPLOYEES WERE STANDING BEHIND THE COUNTER WAITING ON A CUSTOMER AND THEY HAD JUST WENT OUT ON THE FLOOR RIGHT BEFORE IT CRASHED THROUGH THEIR WINDOW AND UP TO THEIR REGISTERS. THEY MISSED BEING HURT BY A FEW SECONDS. I REPORTED THE INCIDENT TO OUR INSURANCE COMPANY, SO THEY CAN INVESTIGATE FURTHER. I ALSO CALLED 1-800-HONDA AND REPORTED THE INCIDENT AND THEIR RESPONSE WAS THAT MY EXTENDED WARRANTY HAD RUN OUT AND WHAT DID I EXPECT THEM TO DO ABOUT IT. I TOLD THEM THEY SHOULD INVESTIGATE AND MAYBE KEEP SOMEONE FROM GETTING KILLED OR SERIOUSLY INJURED. WE FOUND A WEBSITE CALLED ALLWORLDAUTO.COM THAT LISTS SEVERAL INCIDENTS HAVING TO DO WITH THE VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL THAT SUDDENLY ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN CAUSING NUMEROUS ACCIDENTS AROUND THE U.S. HONDA'S MECHANICS JUST SAID ALL THE INCIDENTS WERE DUE TO DRIVER ERROR, BUT EVERYONE THAT WROTE IN ABOUT THEIR INCIDENTS KNOW, THE SAME AS I DO, THAT IS WAS NOT CAUSED BY DRIVER'S ERROR AT ALL. ON APPLYING MORE THAN NORMAL PRESSURE IT SUDDENLY RELEASES AND VEHICLE SURGES FORWARD. MY MILEAGE IS ONLY 54,000 NOW. TOOK IT TO A DEALER IN HARTFORD AND HE SAYS I NEED TO SHELL OUT NEARLY 200 BUCKS TO GET THROTTLE CLEANED, THIS DESPITE REGULAR MAINTAINANCE AS RECOMMENDED BY THE MANUFACTURER. I HAVE SEEN OTHERS WITH SIMILAR COMPLAINTS AND WHO GOT THROTTLE CLEANED AND IT WAS GIVING SAME PROBLEM AGAIN AFTER 2000 MILES, SO WHAT'S THE GURANTEE IT WON'T HAPPEN AGAIN. THE FRONT SUBFRAME IS GETTING RUSTY AND I CAN SEE A LOT OF WATER DRAINING FROM THE AC SYSTEM ON IT. I THINK IT MIGHT FAIL AND CAUSE A MAJOR ISSUE. MY CAR IS NOT RUSTY, IT IS IN A GREAT SHAPE FOR THE AGE. THE ONLY PLACE THAT IS RUSTED SO BAD IS THAT AREA. MY CONCERN IS THAT THE LUG WRENCH PROVIDED WITH THIS CAR AND MOST OTHERS WILL NOT ALLOW MOST PEOPLE TO REMOVE THE LUG NUTS AFTER THEY HAVE BEEN TORQUED BY A TIRE DEALERSHIP. EITHER THE TORQUE BEING APPLIED IS TOO MUCH OR THE WRENCHES ARE NOT ADEQUATE. MANY PEOPLE THERES DAYS HAVE SOME TYPE OF ROAD-SIDE INSURANCE AND NEVER REALLY HAVE TO REMOVE THE WHEEL, HOWEVER IF A FLAT HAPPENS IN A REMOTE AREA AND THE ONLY EQUIPMENT AVAIABLE IS THE EQUIPMENT SUPPLIED WITH THE CAR, MANY PEOPLE WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO LOOSEN THE LUG NUTS. HE SPECIFICALLY MENTIONED THAT THE "CRADLE", WHICH HOLDS UP THE FRONT OF THE ENGINE IS ALMOST COMPLETELY RUSTED THROUGH. I THOUGHT IT WAS COVERED THROUGH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID #: 98V018000 BUT I DID NOT USE THE CAR ENOUGH TO RECOGNIZE A PATTERN UNTIL 2002. I THINK AT THAT TIME, THERE MAY HAVE BEEN SEVERAL THOUSAND MILES IN 2002 WHEN I BEGAN TO USE THE CAR ON MORE ROUTINE BASES. THERE ARE TWO OCCASIONS THAT CAUSE THE ISSUE TO ARISE. WHILE I AM DRIVING, THE STEERING COLUMN WILL LOCK UP CAUSING AN ISSUE TO SHIFT FROM GEAR TO GEAR AND THE MOBILITY OF THE CAR. AS THE STEERING COLUMN WOULD LOCK AND CAUSE THE HORN TO MALFUNCTION AND NOT MAKE A SOUND AND THE LIMIT MY MOBILITY TO PARK THE CAR. MOST STREETS THAT I DRIVE ARE NOT ON AN INCLINE BUT THERE HAVE BEEN FEW OCCASIONS, WHERE IF THE CAR WAS ON A SLIGHT INCLINE, IT WOULD BEGIN TO ROLL. I WOULD USE THE GEAR BRAKES TO PREVENT AN ACCIDENT. ANOTHER ISSUE INVOLVES ANOTHER PATH (OCCASION) WHICH CAUSES THE STEERING WHEEL TO LOCK WHICH CAUSES MALFUNCTIONS IN THE HORN AND THE INTERLOCKING INCIDENT. FIRST OF ALL, THE ELECTRICAL IGNITION SWITCH HAD TO BE REPLACE. EVERY TIME THE CAR IS STARTED UP, U HAVE TO KEEP TRYING IN ORDER FOR IT TO CRANK UP. IF IT DOES CRANK, WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY, THE CAR WOULD CUT OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC. THAT WAS VERY DANGEROUS. DURING THE LAST 6 MONTHS I BEGAN HAVING PROBLEMS WITH MY IGNITION LOCKING UP AND CAR WOULD NOT START & OCCASIONALLY THE CAR WOULD STOP RUNNING WHILE IN MOTION FOR NO REASON. THE DASH LIGHTS WOULD ALL FLASH AND THEN LOCK-UP & DIE. I CHECKED ONLINE AND DISCOVERED THERE HAD BEEN TWO RECALLS ON MY 98 HONDA ACCORD LX, IGNITION SWITCH AND INTERLOCK. I PHONED MY LOCAL DEALER, HONDA OF OCALA AND THEY GAVE ME AN APPT. FOR 10/20/06. THEY TOOK A LOOK AT MY CAR AND THEN TRIED TO SELL ME OTHER SERVICES. I ASKED THAT THEY ONLY FIX THE TWO RECALLS AS SCHEDULED. I WAITED FOR 1 1/2 HOURS AND THEN WAS INFORMED THAT THE IGNITION SWITCH WAS BAD BUT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY $205.00 IF I WANTED IT FIXED BECAUSE IT HAD ALREADY BEEN FIXED. THEY COULDN'T TELL ME WHERE OR WHEN THIS WAS. I REFUSED TO PAY FOR A RECALL THAT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE DONE FREE OF CHARGE. AFTER MAKING ME WAIT ANOTHER 35 MINUTES MY CAR WAS RETURNED. I ASKED ABOUT THE INTERLOCK RECALL, HAD IT BEEN FIXED? HE SAID NO YOU'LL HAVE TO CALL AND MAKE ANOTHER APPT. THIS APPT. WAS FOR BOTH RECALLS. THEY HAD MY CAR FOR OVER 2 HRS AND DID NOTHING. I WENT HOME AND CALLED HONDA OF AMERICA. I SPOKE WITH A REP THAT TOOK MY COMPLAINT. ON 10/23 I WAS TOLD BY BOTH REPS THAT MY ONLY OPTION WAS PAYING LABOR AND GETTING IT DONE AT HONDA OF OCALA. I DID NOT WANT TO RETURN TO THIS SPECIFIC DEALERSHIP DUE TO THEM TREATING ME SO MISERABLY AT THE FIRST APPT. I HAVE NO RECORDS THAT THIS RECALL WAS EVER FIXED. WAS DRIVING VEHICLE (1998 ACCORD LX 4 CYLINDER) WHEN A LOUD THUMP WAS HEARD FROM THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE SUSPENSION. PUT THE VEHICLE UP ON RAMPS TO INSPECT AND THE FRONT SUBFRAME ON THE RIGHT SIDE HOLDING THE SWAY BAR WAS COMPLETELY SEPARATED AND ROTTED/RUSTED OUT. PRIOR VISUAL INSPECTION NEVER SHOWED THE ISSUE AS THE RUSTING WAS TAKING PLACE FROM ON TOP OF THE SUBFRAME. AFTER SOME QUICK RESEARCH THIS ISSUE IS A DESIGN FLAW WHERE THE AC CONDENSER EMPTIES DIRECTLY ABOVE THE SUBFRAME CAUSING PREMATURE FAILURE OF THE SUBFRAME. MANY PEOPLE HAVE FILED COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ISSUE BECAUSE HONDA REFUSES TO CORRECT THE ISSUE. ABOUT 4 MONTHS AFTER THE PURCHASE OF THE CAR, THE CLUTCH STARTED MAKING SOME LOUD SQUEEKS WHILE PRESSING OR RELEASING THE CLUTCH. THE SQUEEK GOT LOUDER AS THE TRAFFIC GOT HEAVIER. WHILE THIS WAS OCCURING THE CLUTCH BECOMES HARD AND DIFFICULT TO CONTROL (TOO MUCH RELEASE OR TOO LITTLE). I TOOK THE CAR TO THE NEAREST DEALERSHIP (HONDA WORLD, WESTMINSTER) AND TOLD THEM. THEY SAID IT WAS THE MASTER CYLINDER AND AT THIS MOMENT THERE WAS NO REPLACEMENT. I WAITED ABOUT 2 MONTHS THEN FINALLY IN AUGUST '98 IT WAS REPLACED. I LEFT FOR A TRIP TO SAN FRANCISCO AND BY THE TIME I GOT TO MY DESTINATION IT WAS ALREADY OCCURING AGAIN. WHILE DRIVING IN THE CITY AND GOING UP STEEP HILLS IT BECAME DIFFICULT TO CALCULATE THE RELEASE IN THE CLUTCH BECAUSE IT WAS NOT SMOOTH- IT FELT LIKE IT WAS RUBBING AGAINST SOMETHING ELSE, I HAD TO USE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP AS SOON AS I CAME BACK. AT THIS MOMENT THEY TOLD ME THAT IT WAS A DEFECT AND THEY HAD NO SOLUTIONS AND THAT I COULD ONLY WAIT. AFTER WAITING FOR AWHILE I CALLED AMERICAN HONDA AND TOLD MY PROBLEM. THEY SAID THEY WERE AWARED BUT THEY COULD NOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT AT THIS TIME. THEY PROMISED TO CALL ME TO KEEP ME INFORM OF THE SITUATION WHICH THEY HAVE BEEN. IN ONE OF THE PHONE CALLS I WAS TOLD THAT THEY HAD A PART BUT IT WAS ONLY TEMPORARY AND IT WOULD NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM PERMANENTLY. AT THIS MOMENT OTHER THINGS HAVE COME OUT - THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR LOCK GIVES ME ELECTRICAL SHOCKS WHILE LOCKING AND UNLOCKING THE DOOR AND THESE ARE NOT MINOR SHOCKS. IN JANUARY 2000, I TOOK MY HONDA IN TO THE TRICKET DEALERSHIP TO HAVE A STICKING GAS PEDAL REPAIR. THE MILEAGE AT THAT TIME WAS 35, 187. THE PEDAL WOULD STICK AND REQUIRE A HARD PUNCH WITH THE FOOT TO COME LOOSE. THE DEALER CLEANED THE THROTTLE AND TOLD ME IT WAS CAUSED BY A HONDA FLOOR MAT. THIS RESOLVED THE PROBLEM AT THAT TIME. I REMOVED THE FLOOR MAT. ON JANUARY 16, 2002 I TOOK THE HONDA INTO THE SAME DEALERSHIP AND REPORTED MY GAS PEDAL WAS STICKING AGAIN EVEN THOUGH I USED NO FLOOR MAT ON THE DRIVERS SIDE. THE DEALERSHIP CLEANED THE THROTTLE AGAIN WITH A CHARGE TO ME OF $35.18 WHICH SEEMED TO TAKE CARE OF THE PROBLEM. WHEN I ASKED WHY THIS ELEMENT HAD FAILED TWICE, AT FIRST I WAS TOLD IT WAS BAD GAS, THEN THE DEALERRSHIP ADMITTED 98-99 HONDA ACCORDS HAD RECURRING PROBLEMS WITH THE GAS PEDAL STICKING. THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THIS WAS NOT DANGEROUS BECAUSE THE GAS PEDAL DID NOT NORMALLY STICK WIDE OPEN. I GUESS DANGEROUS IS A MATTER OF OPINION. The contact owns an Evenflo Car Seat, Model Number: 36412348, Model Type: Nurture Max, Manufactured Date: 8/17/2022. The car seat was being utilized in a 1998 Honda Accord. The contact stated that she noticed that the latches on the left and right side of the safety seat failed to attach as designed. Additionally, the pull latch snapped from the safety seat. The safety seat was not inspected or replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The contact stated that the car seat was still in use, just without the base. The manufacturer instructed the contact to destroy the defective seat once the replacement arrived.

HAD 4 TIRES AND VALVE STEMS ON A 1998 HONDA ACCORD REPLACED IN APRIL OF 2007 AT GOLD COAST AUTO CENTER. IN SEPTEMBER OF 2008 THE FIRST VALVE STEM FAILED. LUCKILY I NOTICED THE TIRE WAS CONTINUOUSLY GETTING LOW ONLY WHEN THE CAR WAS DRIVEN AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AND WAS ABLE TO GET THE STEM REPLACED BEFORE IT CAUSED A CRASH. THE SECOND STEM FAILED IN DECEMBER OF 2008, AGAIN WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. IN A WATER BATH, THE STEM ONLY LEAKED WHEN IT WAS FLEXED TOWARD THE OUTSIDE DIAMETER OF THE WHEEL. THIS IS THE FLEXING THAT MIGHT BE EXPECTED AS A RESULT OF THE CENTRIFUGAL FORCE THAT IS APPLIED TO THE STEM AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. IN THE CASE OF THE SECOND FAILURE, THE LEAKAGE WAS SO SLOW THAT THE TIRE DEFLATED AND WAS RUN AT HIGHWAY SPEED FOR AN HOUR OR MORE. THE TIRE EVENTUALLY BEGAN VIBRATING BADLY, CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO SWERVE. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE OFF THE ROAD ONTO THE SHOULDER. THE TIRES SIDEWALL EXHIBITED NUMEROUS BULGES AND WAS RUINED. ALTHOUGH NO ONE WAS INJURED WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS MOVING, AS A RESULT OF CHANGING THE TIRE, I SLASHED MY HAND ON THE LUG WRENCH. I TOOK THE ISSUE BACK TO GOLD COAST TIRE AND THE MANAGER SAID THERE WAS NO RASH OF VALVE STEM FAILURES. I HAVE A 1998 HONDA ACCORD 4-DOOR. SOMETIMES THE SEAT BELT ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOES NOT RECOIL WHEN I REMOVE IT. I GETS HUNG UP IN THE SWITCH THAT MOVES THE SEAT BACK. ON THE DATE BELOW, I HAD MY SON IN A FORWARD FACING CAR SEAT IN THE MIDDLE REAR SEAR. I PARKED AND UNCLIPPED MY SEAT BELT AND OPENED THE TRUNK. I GOT OUT OF THE CAR AND SHUT THE DOOR BUT DIDN'T REALIZE THAT THE SEAT BELT WAS PUSHING AGAINST THE SEAT BACK SWITCH AND LOWERED THE SEAT BACK ALL THE WAY DOWN. IT CAUGHT MY SON'S FOOT BETWEEN HIS CAR SEAT AND THE SEAT BACK. HE WAS NOT SERIOUSLY HURT, BUT THIS COULD HAVE BEEN MUCH WORSE. TAKATA RECALL? WHICH IS ANOTHER ISSUE, THE ELECTRICAL ISSUES EVEN THOUGH YOU TRY TO BRIGHTEN THE LIGHTS WITH THE DIM KNOB THEY ARE HARDLY BRIGHTENED ITS HARD TO SEE THE CLOCK TIME OR ANY THING THAT LIGHTS UP TO HELP SEE AT NIGHT, THE INTERIOR LIGHTS DONT WORK, THE HORN DOESNT WORK, CRUISE CONTROL DOESNT WORK. WHILE I WAS CHANGING THE PASSENGER SIDE DRIVE AXLE OF A BROKEN CV JOINT BOOT LAST YEAR (JULY 2014), I NOTICED THAT THE SUBFRAME HAD RUSTED OUT (ABOUT 60% CAME THROUGH AND OFF WHEN I PUNCHED THE AREA WITH A SCREW DRIVER) WHERE THE STABILIZING BAR BRACKET AND LOWER CONTROL ARM PIVOT ARE MOUNTED TO THE FRAME. THE PROBLEM AREA OF THE SUBFRAME IS RIGHT UNDER THE DRAIN HOLE FOR THE A/C EVAPORATOR. THE SUBFRAME TO THE DRIVER SIDE IS CLEAN AND HAS NO RUST ISSUE. THE LOCATION OF THE RUST AREA SUGGESTS THAT IT MAY BE RELATED TO THE DRAIN HOLE OF THE A/C SYSTEM OR/AND SOMETHING SIMILAR (SUCH AS RAIN) THAT HAD LED TO WATER STAYING IN THE AREA. THE RUST IS GETTING WORSE OVER TIME. I CHECKED IT TODAY (JULY 23, 2015) AFTER NOTICING YELLOWISH DRIPPING MARKS LEFT ON THE DRIVER WAY. MY WIFE DROVE THE CAR THE DAY BEFORE WHEN THERE WAS A HEAVY RAIN. THE CAR WAS PARKED ON THE DRIVE WAY (UP HILL ABOUT 15 DEGREES) OVER NIGHT. WHEN SHE PULLED THE CAR OUT OF THE DRIVE WAY THE NEXT DAY, WE SAW YELLOWISH WATER DRIPPING FROM UNDER THE CAR. SO, I LOOKED AT THE AREA. FOR SURE, IT'S GETTING WORSE THAN LAST YEAR. I PUNCHED AROUND AND GOT ABOUT A COUPLE OF SPOONFULS OF RUST OFF THE FRAME. I USED MY PRY BAR TO PRY AROUND THE AREA AND I CAN SEE THAT THE FRAME IS GETTING VERY WEAK. NOW I CAN SEE THE RUST IS PROGRESSING OVER TIME. AS THE AREA IS GETTING MORE RUSTED, THE STRUCTURE IS LOSING ITS STRENGTH. THE LOWER CONTROL ARM AND/OR THE STABILIZING BAR WILL COME OFF THE FRAME, CAUSING DISASTER ON THE ROAD. I SEARCHED THE INERNET ON THE ISSUE ("HONDA ACCORD SUBFRAME RUST"). THE ISSUE SEEMS VERY COMMON. THERE MUST BE A DESIGN FLAW (A/C DRAIN OR RAIN WATER) WITH THE CAR. IT SEEMS THAT THE ISSUE HAD NOT BEEN UNDERSTOOD AND TAKEN CARE OF BY HONDA. I HAVE HAD SO MANY CORROSION ISSUES WITH THIS CAR, IT IS STRUCTURALLY DANGEROUS. THE CAR HAS 160,000 MILES ON IT BUT HAS BEEN KEPT IN A GARAGE AND HAS HAD THE UNDER CARRIAGE FREQUENTLY WASHED SINCE I LIVE IN THE NORTHEASTERN US. IN THE LAST 2 YEARS I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE BOTH THE BRAKE AND GAS LINES DO TO CORROSION. THE GAS LINE RUPTURED DURING A DRIVE. FORTUNATELY THERE WAS NO FIRE. THE GAS TANK RUSTED THROUGH AND WAS REPLACED. IT WAS LEAKING FOR SOME TIME. THE LEAK WAS NEAR THE HALF WAY MARK AND ONLY LEAKED WHEN OVER HALF FULL AND DURING DRIVING OR GOING UP HILL. SHE HAD STOPPED, PUT THE CAR INTO PARK, GOT OUT TO OPEN A PARKING LOT GATE, GOT BACK IN, STEPPED ON THE BRAKE, AND SHIFTED THE CAR INTO GEAR. IT IMMEDIATELY WENT INTO A HIGH REV AND ACCELERATED UNCONTROLLABLY RESULTING IN THE CAR SMASHING INTO A WALL ABOUT 60' AWAY. LUCKILY THE AIR BAGS WORKED AND NEITHER HER OR MY STEP FATHER WERE SERIOUSLY HURT. HER FOOT WAS DEFINITELY ON THE BRAKE PEDAL AS THERE IS A LOCKOUT MECHANISM THAT PREVENTS THE CAR FROM BEING TAKEN OUT OF PARK IF THE BRAKE PEDAL IS NOT PUSHED. THIS MAY OR MAY NOT BE RELATED, BUT SHE WAS HAVING DIFFICULTY GETTING THE HANDLE TO MOVE. THE PROBLEM WITH IT NOT MOVING HAD OCCURRED PREVIOUSLY, USUALLY ON A SLIGHT INCLINE, BUT THE HONDA DEALER LOOKED AT IT AND TOLD HER NOTHING WAS WRONG. MY MOTHER IS A RETIRED BUS DRIVER WITH A PERFECT DRIVING RECORD, NO ACCIDENTS, AND ONLY USES ONE FOOT TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE.

PROBLEMS BEGAN WHEN I TOOK MY 1998 ACCORD EX IN TO HAVE THE 30,000 MILE SERVICE. I WAS TOLD THAT THE BRAKE PADS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. I HAD THEM REPLACED AND WENT IN FOR ANOTHER MAJOR SERVICE CHECK A YEAR LATER AND WAS TOLD THE CAR NEEDED NEW BRAKE PADS AGAIN, THAT'S ONLY 18,000 MILES LATER. THE HONDA DEALERSHIP MECHANIC TOLD ME REPLACING THE PADS EVERY 20,000 MILES IS NOT UNCOMMON FOR THESE CARS. I, THEN, TOOK THE CAR TO A NON-HONDA REPAIR SHOP WHO REPLACED THE PADS AND GUARANTEED THEM FOR 48,000 MILES. WHEN I TOOK THE CAR IN FOR THE SECOND MAJOR SERVICE CHECK MY CAR HORN WAS WORKING. AFTER LEAVING HONDA'S SERVICE SHOP THE HORN HAS NOT WORKED PROPERLY AGAIN. WHEN I TURN THE ENGINE ON THE HORN TURNS OFF. AS LONG AS THE ENGINE'S OFF THE HORN WORKS WITHOUT A PROBLEM. I TOOK IT BACK TO HONDA WHO TOLD ME THAT THE PROBLEM IS PROBABLY RELATED TO A CABLE IN THE STEERING COLUMN AND WOULD COST ME OVER $200 TO REPAIR. THEY ALSO TOLD ME THAT IT COULD BE THE KEY SWITCH AND THERE HAS BEEN A RECALL ON THE SWITCH BUT MY CAR WAS NOT INCLUDED. AGAIN THEY ESTIMATE $200 TO REPAIR. THIS CAR HAS NOT HAD EXCESSIVE WEAR, IT IS A 1998 AND HAS LESS THAN 48,000 MILES ON IT TODAY. I HAVE NO CONFIDENCE IN WHAT THEY ARE TELLING ME AND AM VERY DISPLEASED WITH MY HONDA AND THE SERVICE THAT I AM GETTING.

WHILE TRAVELING 25 MPH THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE WHEEL SEPARATED FROM THE AXLE (BALL JOINT FAILURE), CAUSING SUDDEN DECELERATION AND STEERING LOST. IN JULY 1998, I PURCHASED A 1998 HONDA ACCORD V6 EX. IN FEBRUARY 2000 THE FIRST PROBLEM WITH THE ENGINE CHECK AND EGR DEFECT OCCURRED. THE PROBLEM WAS RESOLVED WITH THE REPLACEMENT OF THE INTAKE MANIFOLD AND REPOSITIONING OF THE PCV VALVE AND HOSE IN ACCORDANCE WITH HONDA RECALL INSTRUCTIONS AND RESETTING THE "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT INDICATOR AT NO COST TO ME. SERVICE OCCURRED AT DEALER. IN APRIL 2000, THE SECOND PROBLEM WITH THE EGR VALVE AS MANIFESTED BY THE "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT OCCURRED. THE PROBLEM WAS RESOLVED BY REPLACEMENT OF THE PCV HOSE IN ACCORDANCE WITH HONDA RECALL INSTRUCTIONS AND RESETTING THE "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT INDICATOR AT NO COST TO ME. SERVICE OCCURRED AT DEALER. IN OCTOBER 2000, THE THIRD OCCURRENCE OF THE EGR VALVE FAILURE OCCURRED. THIS PROBLEM WAS RESOLVED BY CLEANING THE EGR PORT AND VALVE. THIS WAS PERFORMED AT A COST OF $66 PLUS TAX. SERVICE OCCURRED AT DEALER. IN JANUARY 2001, A RELATED OCCURRENCE OF THE EGR PROBLEM OCCURRED WITH AN IDLE AIR CONTROLLER (IAC) MOTOR FAILING. THE EGR PORT AND VALVE WERE NOT CHECKED, HOWEVER THE SYMPTOMS OF THE PROBLEM WERE RESOLVED BY REPLACEMENT OF THE IAC MOTOR AND CLEARING OF THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT INDICATOR. THIS RESULTED IN A COST TO ME OF $226.69. SERVICE OCCURRED AT DEALER. IN NOVEMBER 2001, I WAS SENT A NOTICE BY AMERICAN HONDA CONCERNING THE EGR FAILURES AND EXTENDING THE WARRANTY TO 80,000 MILES. SERVICE OCCURRED AT DEALER. IN MAY 2002, THE FOURTH EGR PROBLEM OCCURRED WITH THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT INDICATING A PROBLEM. THE PROBLEM WAS DIAGNOSED TO BE THE EGR VALVE FAILURE AND THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER FAILURE. THIS REPAIR HAS BEEN ESTIMATED TO BE $800.00. HONDA?S DISTRICT SERVICE MANAGER HAS DENIED THE CLAIM, SINCE THE FAILURE OCCURRED AT 81,000 MILES, IT HAS BEEN CONSIDERED TO BE OUT-OF-WARRANTY BY HONDA AND THEREFORE REPAIRS WOULD BE AT MY COST. I CAN'T TRADE THE CAR OR SALE THE CAR BECAUSE OF THE ODOMETER REPLACEMENT. THE CAR IS WORTHLESS. AND WORST OF ALL I AM STILL TO THIS DAY HAVING PROBLEMS! THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN THE TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER 4 TIMES IN A MONTH AND A HALF. THE CAR SHAKES AT HIGH SPEEDS AND AT IDLE (DEALER SAYS UNBELIVABLE SHAKE IS NORMAL). WHEN VEHICLE IS DRIVEN FOR LONG PERIODS OF TIME IT STARTS TO VIBRATE AND HESITATE AT HIGH SPEEDS THE CAR BECOMES VERY HARD TO DRIVE IN THE STEERING WHEEL, THE WHOLE SUSPENSION OF THE CAR IS NOT SECURE. THE BRAKES ON THE CAR HAVE ALSO BEEN FIXED OR CHECKED 4 TIMES - IT IS VERY HARD TO BREAK. THEIR IS ALSO A VERY HESITATION IN THE ENGINE WHEN CHANGING GEARS. IT FEELS LIKE THERE MAY BE A TRANSMISSION PROBLEM OR AN ENGINE MOUNT PROBLEM. THE TIRES WERE REPLACED WITH USED TIRES BECAUSE MANUFACTURER SAID THAT THERE WAS A FLAT SPOT ON THE TIRES. I WAS TOLD THAT THEY WERE REPLACING THE BAD TIRES WITH NEW GOOD TIRES (HOPING THAT ALL THE PROBLEMS I WAS HAVING WAS DUE TO JUST THE BAD TIRES) THEY REPLACED THEM WITH USED TIRES AND DIDN'T BALANCE AND ALIGN THEM (THIS IS ON THE FORTH VISIT TO THE DEALER). THIS CAR IS A LEMON. I HAVE HAD SO MANY PROBLEMS I CAN NOT BELIEVE IT. THE SUNROOF HAS BEEN REPLACE 3 TIMES, THE HEADLINER 2 TIMES.
