Why you are driving the RPMs drop down to zero and the car just shuts off and you could be sitting at a light it does the same thing our traffic it is just shut off I Googled about the car and it said it was the ignition switch and then when I Googled that it said it was a recall on my car I'm just trying to see what's going on

WHEN YOUR DRIVING OUT OF THE BLUE THE CAR WILL JUST CUT OFF WHEN IT FEELS LIKE IT AND YOU HAVE TO TRY TO COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND LET THE CAR SIT FOR A MINUTE AND TRY TO START IT A COUPLE OF TIME BEFORE IT WILL ACTUALLY START 95 % OF THE TIME IT HAPPENS WHILE THE CAR IS IN MOTION ITS HAPPENED ON THE INTERSTATE AND CITY STREETS THE OTHER 5% OF THE TIME IT HAPPENS WHEN I COME OUT TO START THE CAR IT WILL START THEN SOMETIMES IT WILL JUST SHUT OFF AND IT'S UNSAFE WHEN I'M ON THE INTERSTATE IN THE MIDDLE LANE AND MY CAR JUST SHUTS OFF AND IM COASTING IN TRAFFIC TRYING TO GET TO THE SHOULDER WITHOUT GETTING HIT

CAR INTERMITTENTLY STALLS. IT HAPPENED WHEN I WAS DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY AND ALMOST GOT HIT BY THE INCOMING TRAFFIC. WE TOOK IT TO THE HONDA DEALER AND DIAGNOSED IT WAS THE ELECTRICAL PORTION OF THE IGNITION SWITCH. I REMEMBERED THEY HAVE A RECALL TO REPLACE THE SWITCH. IT PROBABLY GOT REPLACED BUT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AGAIN. IS IT TIME FOR ANOTHER RECALL? HONDA DID NOT SOLVED THE PROBLEM.

AT AROUND 185000 MILES NOW, THIS CAR WHICH WE BOUGHT A FEW YEARS AGO WITH MAYBE 50,000 TO 60,000 LESS MILES STARTED SHIFTING REALLY HARD BETWEEN 1ST GEAR AND 2ND GEAR. NOW IT SLAMS IN GEAR. FROM ALL WE'VE READ IT IS A DESIGN FLAW REGARDING THE FILTER WHICH COLLECTS TINY METAL PARTICULATES PREVENTING ENOUGH PRESSURE FOR THE TRANSMISSION TO PROPERLY AND SMOOTHLY SHIFT. HONDA IS WELL AWARE OF THIS SITUATION AND WILL NOT OFFER TO REPLACE THESE TRANSMISSIONS. THERE ARE LITERALLY THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS I FIND WHEN READING ABOUT THIS COMPLAINT ONLINE AND EVERYONE SAYS THE SAME THING. AND THERE ARE SO FEW LEFT OF THESE YEARS THAT HONDA OUGHT TO HAVE NO PROBLEM REPLACING OR REPAIRING THESE TRANSMISSIONS FOR THOSE OF US WHO ARE STILL DRIVING THESE CARS. ON 03/19/20016 I WAS ON MY WAY TO WORK AND OUT OF NOW WHERE I STOP AT A RED LIGHT AND I TRIED TO TAKE OFF I HAD TO HIT THE GAS PEDDLE BEFORE THE CAR WOULD MOVE. I MADE IT TO WORK AND I TOOK INTO A MECHANIC THAT SAME NIGHT AND HE INFORMED ME THAT I MAY NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION.

THIS IS A V6 AUTOMATIC. I HAVE KEPT UP WITH THE MAINTENANCE OF THE VEHICLE EXACTLY AS HONDA HAS INSTRUCTED. I HAVE EVEN GONE AS FAR TO ONLY GET IT SERVICED AT THE DEALERSHIP. THE VEHICLE HAS ALWAYS SHIFTED WEIRD FROM PARK INTO DRIVE. AT 75000 MILES IT BEGAN HARD SHIFTING INTO 1ST AND AROUND 85000 MILES IT BEGAN TO NOT WANT TO SHIFT FROM 1ST INTO 2ND AND ESPECIALLY 2ND BACK TO 1ST. NOW PUTTING THE CAR IN REVERSE IS CAUSING PROBLEMS. THIS ISSUE WITH 1999 V-6 AUTOMATICS IS DOCUMENTED EVERYWHERE. THE DEALER SAID THEY ARE AWARE THE ISSUE IS WIDE SPREAD AND CAN'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. HONDA HAS BEEN AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM AS A WIDE SPREAD DEFECT AND THE NHTSA SHOULD PUT SOME PRESSURE ON HONDA TO STEP-UP. A WELL MAINTAINED ENGINE SHOULD LAST MORE THAN 90K MILES ON THIS HONDA. ON THE WAY BACK TO HOME, SUDDENLY THERE WAS BURST SOUND, WHEN I CHECKED, THE RADIATOR TUBE HAD BURST. I TOOK IT TO THE NEAREST MECHANIC, THEN HE SAID, THERE WAS PROBLEM WITH RADIATOR AND HE FIXED THE RADIATOR. IT WORKED WELL FOR A WEEK AND THEN STARTED LEAKING OF COOLANT. I TOOK IT AGAIN TO THE MECHANIC, THEN HE SAID IT MAY BE A PROBLEM WITH HEAD GASKET OR MAY BE WE HAVE TO REPLACE THE WHOLE HEAD. IF IT IS THE HEAD GASKET IT WILL BE 1200 TO 1500. IF IT IS THE HEAD THEN YOU END UP SPENDING UP TO 3000 TO 3500. I CAN'T IMAGINE A CASE IF THIS INCIDENT HAPPENS WHEN I WAS ON FREEWAY AT 70 MPH. I HAVE BOUGHT THE CAR EXACTLY ONE YEAR BACK AND I AM THE SECOND OWNER OF THE CAR. WHEN I CHECKED ON THE WEB, THERE WERE A QUITE A FEW SIMILAR CASES. GOD KNOWS ONLY WHY FEW CARS FROM HONDA GET THIS PROBLEM. MY FRIEND WHO IS HOLDING A SIMILAR CAR HAS 40K MORE MILES ON IT AND USES IT WITHOUT SPENDING ANY MONEY ON MAINTENANCE.

DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AND MY 1999 HONDA ACCORD EX. SHUTS OFF. THE STEERING WHEEL SOMETIMES TIGHTENS UP BUT THIS LAST TIME I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER WITHOUT A PROBLEM. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that there was high resistance in the front driver's side air bag due to the air bag connector failure. The dealer diagnosed that the air bag needed to be replaced. The vehicle was then taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the air bag was defective and needed to be replaced. The contact's father inspected the vehicle and discovered that the sub-frame was severely corroded. Upon investigation, the contact related the failure to an A/C condensation leak onto the sub-frame, causing the sub-frame to corrode. MY WIFE HAD PURCHASED THIS CAR NEW IN THE 1999 MODEL YEAR AND I REALIZE HONDA IS PROBABLY EXPECTING THESE CARS TO BE PAST THEIR USEFUL LIFE. UNFORTUNATELY UNAWARE CONSUMERS AND YOUNG ADULTS WILL BUY THESE EXPECTING TO PILE MILES ON THESE WHICH HONDA IS KNOWN FOR. THE PROBLEM IS WITH THE SUBFRAME ON THE PASSENGER SIDE WHICH SUPPORTS THE ENGINE AND SUSPENSION COMPONENTS. I PERSONALLY WATCHED THIS PARTICULAR PART OF THE CAR RAPIDLY RUST AND DETERIORATE EVEN AFTER COATING IT WITH SOME RUST INHIBITORS. THE PROBLEM AS I UNDERSTAND IT IS THE AIR CONDITIONING WAS DRIPPING CONDENSATION ON THE FRAME CAUSING THE STRUCTURE TO ROT. I REALIZED IT WAS ALMOST ROTTED THROUGH WHEN I WAS PUTTING ON A NEW PASSENGER SIDE TIRE ON, SO NOT WANTING TO PUT MONEY IN THAT KIND OF REPAIR, I GUESS MY CAR IS DONE. MY POINT IS BUYER BE WARE, HONDA HAD TO KNOW AND I STILL SEE THESE 1999 TO 2002 MODELS RUNNING AROUND.

I AM THE OWNER OF A 1999 HONDA ACCORD LX. I RECENTLY BROUGHT MY VEHICLE TO A MECHANIC FOR MY ANNUAL INSPECTION. THEY TOLD ME THAT THE FRONT SUBFRAME OF THE VEHICLE IS RUSTED THROUGH ON THE PASSENGER-SIDE, RENDERING THE VEHICLE UNSAFE TO DRIVE. THIS APPEARS TO BE AN ISSUE WITH THE POSITION OF THE AIR CONDITIONING DRAINAGE HOSE, WHICH DRAINS DIRECTLY ONTO THE SUBFRAME ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. FURTHER, THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON ISSUE AMONGST 1998-2002 HONDA ACCORD VEHICLES. THIS ISSUE, WHICH RESULTS FROM A DESIGN FLAW, POSES A SERIOUS THREAT TO THE SAFETY OF ANY OCCUPANTS OF HONDA ACCORDS FROM THESE YEARS.

FRAME HAS RUSTED DUE TO AC DRAIN HOLE FROM THE EVAPORATOR. DUE TO WATER DRIPPING ON THE FRAME, FRAME HAS A BREAK CAUSING IT TO HIT THE BODY EVERYTIME YOU HIT A BUMP AND THE SWAY BAR IS CONNECTED TO THE PART OF THE FRAME THAT HAS BROKE.

I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF A 1999 HONDA ACCORD (PURCHASED NEW) WITH 57,400 MILES. WHILE TRAVELING DOWN HILL IN WET BUT NOT RAINY CONDITIONS, MY BRAKES FAILED. THE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR & I LOST ALL BRAKING POWER. I WAS NOT ABLE TO PUMP THE BRAKES BACK UP AND THERE WERE NO BRAKE INDICATOR OR WARNING LIGHTS THAT CAME ON. IT WAS NOT AN ABS ACTIVATED SYSTEM BECAUSE THE PEDAL SIMPLY FELL TO THE FLOOR. AFTER THE CAR SAT FOR APPROX. 30 MINUTES, FULL BRAKING POWER RETURNED. THERE WAS ALSO A BURNING SMELL, WITH A FOUL ODOR. WHEN I TOOK THE CAR TO AN INDEPENDENT SHOP, NO PROBLEM COULD BE FOUND. I WAS TOLD IT WAS A ONE-TIME OCCURRANCE. I THEN TOOK THE CAR TO A HONDA DEALER (THIS IS THE 5TH HONDA I HAVE OWNED & I HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM) THE DEALER GAVE TWO REASONS FOR LOSS OF BRAKES/PEDAL TO THE FLOOR: LOSS OF BRAKE FLUID (MINE WAS FINE) OR A PROBLEM WITH THE INTERNAL SEAL IN THE MASTER CYLINDER. THE DEALER REPLACED MY MASTER CYLINDER AND BLED THE WHOLE SYSTEM. THE CAR HAS RATHER LOW MILEAGE & HAS BEEN REGULARLY SERVICED. MY CHILD & HIS FRIEND WERE IN THE CAR WITH ME WHEN THE BRAKES FAILED. MY 1999 HONDA ACCORD EX SEDAN WITH APPROXIMATELY 84,000 MILES ON ODOMETER HAS WARPED FRONT ROTORS. I HAVE ALWAYS TAKEN GOOD CARE OF MY VEHICLES, HOWEVER, I ALMOST ALWAYS BOUGHT TOYOTA'S IN THE PAST (AND KEPT MOST TO THE 100,000-MILE MARK). THIS IS MY FIRST HONDA. I'VE REVIEWED ALL OF THE COMPLAINTS FILED WITH REGARD TO THIS VEHICLE, AND CONCUR WITH OTHERS THAT THERE IS NO LOGICAL REASON FOR WARPED ROTORS AT THIS POINT. FRONT AND BACK BRAKES WERE REPLACED LAST YEAR (ON SEPARATE OCCASIONS), BRAKES HAVE BEEN INSPECTED ROUTINELY, AND I HAVE NOT BEEN DRIVING ROUTINELY IN CONGESTED TRAFFIC, NOR DO I TAKE MY CAR TO CAR WASHES WHEN IT IS BITTER COLD OUTSIDE (AS THE HONDA REP INDICATED COULD BE THE CAUSE). IN ADDITION TO PAYING FOR PM SERVICE AT HONDA, I NOW HAVE TO PAY AN ADDITIONAL $138+ FOR ROTOR REPAIRS. MY DRIVE TO WORK IS PRETTY EASY, ESPECIALLY COMPARED TO YEARS WHEN I DROVE TO DOWNTOWN MINNEAPOLIS DAILY. IF I WAS EVER GOING TO HAVE "ROTOR WARP" ISSUES, IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN ON THE VEHICLES THAT DROVE THE CITY MILES. THEREFORE, IT WAS A SURPRISE TO BE HIT WITH "WARPED ROTORS." I WAS ALREADY A HONDA OWNER A WHEN I HEARD ABOUT HOW "SECRETIVE" THEY ARE WITH THEIR QUALITY ISSUES. WHY DO THEY FEEL THE NEED TO HIDE THEIR PARTS, SERVICE, AND DESIGN FLAWS, AND TRY TO EVADE CUSTOMER CARE OPPORTUNITIES? HONDA SHOULD BE UPFRONT AND ACCOUNTABLE FOR THE SAFETY AND RELIABILITY OF THE VEHICLES THEY MANUFACTURE, DISTRIBUTE, AND PROFIT FROM IN THIS COUNTRY. AFTER ALL, THESE WERE GENUINE HONDA PARTS THAT WARPED. IT HAPPENS ONCE IN 90 DAYS OR TWICE IN ONE WEEK OR TWICE IN ONE DAY. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR THREE OR FOUR YEARS. IT IS JUST HAPPENING MORE OFTEN THIS PAST YEAR. ALSO, THE RECALLED AIRBAG IS TAKING TOO LONG. THERE SHOULD HAVE BEEN AN AIRBAG WAITING FOR ME SEEING HOW HONDA KNEW IT WAS RECALLED AND I WAS STILL DRIVING THE CAR. IN MID TO LATE APRIL 2017 I BEGAN HEARING A CRUNCHING/POPPING NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE OF MY 1999 ACCORD. I TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE SUB-FRAME ON THE PASSENGER SIDE HAD RUSTED THROUGH AND BROKE. I HAD NEVER IN MY LIFE HEARD OF ANYTHING LIKE THIS HAPPENING TO A CAR. I UNDERSTAND LIVING IN THE NORTHERN PART OF THE UNITED STATES THERE IS A HEAVY AMOUNT OF SALT PUT ON THE ROADS IN THE WINTER AND CARS RUST, ESPECIALLY WHEN THEY ARE OLDER. BUT ACTUALLY BREAKING! I WAS TOLD THE TOTAL REPAIR WOULD COST 2,000 DOLLARS! I CANNOT AFFORD A NEW CAR AS I JUST GOT OUT OF COLLEGE. THUS, I HAD TO PAY FOR IT OUT OF POCKET. I FIND THIS ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE. I HAVE DRIVEN SEVERAL CARS OVER LAST 17 YEARS AND NEVER HAVE I EVER BEEN TOLD THE STEEL SUB-FRAME OF YOUR CAR HAS RUSTED THROUGH AND IF YOU DON'T FIX THIS YOU COULD INJURE NOT ONLY YOURSELF BUT OTHERS, NOT TO MENTION YOU'RE CAR COULD BE DESTROYED. I DISCOVERED AFTER SOME ONLINE RESEARCH THAT THIS IS A WIDE SPREAD PROBLEM WITH 1998-2002 HONDA'S IN WHICH THE A/C DRAIN HOSE DRIPS ON THE SUB-FRAME CAUSING IT RUST AND WEAKEN PREMATURELY. I ALSO REALIZE THAT HONDA HAS YET TO ACKNOWLEDGE THIS DESIGN FLAW, WHICH IS CONCERNING BECAUSE THERE ARE STILL TENS OF THOUSANDS OF THESE CARS OUT THERE ON THE ROADS RIGHT NOW. I HAVE BEEN A HONDA DRIVER SINCE 2009 AND HAVE STOOD BY THEM, BUT THIS IS REPREHENSIBLE AND I TRULY HOPE THERE WILL BE SOME KIND OF CLASS ACTION OR SETTLEMENT BROUGHT ABOUT BECAUSE THIS HIT ME HARD FINANCIALLY AND SOURED THE REPUTATION ON WHAT HAS OTHERWISE BEEN A WONDERFUL, WELL MAINTAINED CAR I EXPECT TO GET A FEW MORE YEARS OUT OF.

AN APPOINTMENT WAS SCHEDULED WITH AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR THE DEFECTIVE DOOR LATCH REPAIR WHERE HE WAS AWAITING THE ARRIVAL OF THE NECESSARY PARTS TO COMPLETE THE REPAIR. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 180,000.

THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR LATCH FAILED IN THE LOCKED POSITION WITH THE DOOR CLOSED. THIS PRESENTED A VERY REAL SAFETY HAZARD AS I WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO EXIT THE VEHICLE FROM THE DRIVER'S SIDE IN AN EMERGENCY. THE REPAIR ESTIMATE FROM THE DEALERSHIP WAS $1,300 FOR A $100 PART. I WENT TO MY HONDA INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND PAID $505.31. I AM FILING THIS COMPLAINT BECAUSE OF THE SAFETY HAZARD OF THIS BREAKDOWN AND PRICE GOUGING BY THE DEALERSHIP. 1999 HONDA ACCORD WAS SUBJECT OF A RECALL IN MAY 2002 FOR IGNITION SWITCH THAT THE CAR WOULD SHUT DOWN UNEXPECTEDLY. REPAIR WAS COMPLETED ON SUBJECT AUTO AND HAS NOT HAD ANY FURTHER PROBLEMS WITH THE SWITCH UNTIL TWO WEEKS AGO. THE CAR WOULD SHUT DOWN AND DID AT 65MPH IN TRAFFIC. OIL IS POURING OUT THE BOTTOM OF MY CAR. OIL ALSO FILLED THE RADIATOR OVERFLOW. THE PROBLEM IS A POROUS ENGINE CASTING. THIS CAN CAUSE THE CAR TO SIEZA AS IT LOSES OIL QUITE RAPIDLY. IT CANNOT BE DRIVEN. THERE ARE MANY REPORTED CASES OF THIS ONLINE, BUT HONDA IS TAKING NO RESPONSIBILITY. A NEW ENGINE IS REQUIRED. WHILE THIS IS AN OLDER CAR IN YEARS, THE MILEAGE IS LOW FOR A HONDA OF ITS AGE AND FOR ANY HONDA FOR THAT MATTER AND A PROBELM THAT REQUIRES AN ENTIRE NEW ENGINE IS UNACCEPTABLE. I HAVE SERIOUS ISSUES WITH MY HONDA ACCORD. FIRST, THE TRANSMISSION HAS FAILED. IT BEGAN WITH IT SLIPPING IN HIGHER GEARS WHEN HOT AND FINALLY FAILED WHEN IT WOULDN'T SHIFT OUT OF LOW GEAR. THIS TRANSMISSION IS THE SAME TRANSMISSION THAT IS IN THE 00-04 HONDA ACCORDS THAT WERE RECALLED. HONDA REFUSED TO OFFER ANY TYPE OF OWNER ASSISTANCE. MY EXPENSE TO REPAIR: $1516.30 SECOND ISSUE: IN 2002 THE IGNITION SWITCH WAS RECALLED. THE CAR DIED ON THE FREEWAY AND HAD TO BE TOWED TWO DAYS AFTER I RECEIVED THE RECALL NOTICE. HONDA REPAIRED THE VEHICLE NO CHARGE FOR PARTS AND LABOR BUT REFUSED TO PAY FOR THE TOWING EXPENSE. MY COST: $75. NOW THE IGNITION SWITCH HAS FAILED AGAIN AND HONDA HAS REFUSED TO REPLACE IT AT NO CHARGE OR WITH ANY TYPE OF OWNER ASSISTANCE EVEN THOUGH THIS SAME PART WAS REPLACED AS PART OF A RECALL. I HAVE BEEN GIVEN AN "ESTIMATE" OF $275 TO REPAIR. FREEMAN HONDA OF DALLAS REPLACED THE SWITCH UNDER THE RECALL. I SPOKE WITH A SERVICE CONSULTANT WHO POINT BLANK TOLD ME MY CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY AND THEY WILL DO NOTHING TO HELP ME. AT TIMES, ENGINE SUDDENLY DIES OUT WHEN COMING TO A STOP (TRAFFIC LIGHT; STOP SIGN). THE CAR HAS AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. I CAN EASILY PUT THE CAR IN "PARK" AGAIN AND RESTART WITH NO PROBLEM. THE CAR HAS 80K MILES AND IS WELL MAINTAINED. AFTER A FEW OF THESE SCARY EXPERIENCES, TOOK THE CAR TO A LOCAL HONDA DEALERSHIP IN ATLANTA GA. COST OF $160 (DESCRIPTION - ROUTINE MAINTENANCE - BG FUEL SERVICE ALL - CLEANED THROTTLE BODY). ASSUMED THIS WOULD HAVE CORRECTED THE ISSUE. I WAS WRONG. TOOK THE CAR BACK TO THE HONDA DEALERSHIP ON 10/28/11. I ASKED THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN TO LOOK INTO THE 2002 IGNITION SWITCH RECALL ; CUSTOMER COMPLAINTS & WHAT ELSE WAS PERFORMED TO CORRECT IT. I DON'T BELIEVE THIS SERVICE ADVISER WAS AWARE OF THIS MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE WITH HONDA ACCORDS (1999). THIS TIME THE DEALERSHIP SURPRISED ME WITH REPLACING IGNITION SWITCH AGAIN. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 HONDA ACCORD. THE CONTACT HAD HIS VEHICLE REPAIRED ACCORDING TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 02V120000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION:SWITCH) ON SEPTEMBER 27, 2002. The contact owns a 1999 Honda Accord. The contact stated while driving at approximately 40 MPH, the steering wheel was vibrating abnormally. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact had the alignment checked by an independent mechanic who determined that the passenger’s side subframe was extremely rusted, causing the vehicle to be out of alignment. The mechanic also advised the contact that the A/C drain tube had drained over the subframe on the passenger side and might have been a contributing factor to the extreme rusting of the subframe. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.

THE FRONT SUBFRAME IS RUSTED THROUGH ON ONE SIDE ONLY. IT'S THE PASSENGER SIDE WHERE THE AC DRAIN HOSE DIPS ON THE FRAME. THE CAR IS IN OTHERWISE GOOD SHAPE AND DOESN'T PRESENT ANY REAL ISSUES BUT THE RUST IS SO BAD THAT IT IS MAKING THE CAR VERY UNSAFE.

WHILE TRYING TO GET CV SHAFTS REPLACED, I WAS INFORMED THAT MY FRONT SUBFRAME REAR CROSSMEMBER, SPECIFICALLY THE PASSENGER SIDE, HAD RUSTED COMPLETELY THROUGH THE TOP HALF AND WAS THUS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. UPON CLOSER INSPECTION, THE SAME AREA THAT RUSTED AWAY IS DIRECTLY BELOW THE AIR CONDITIONER DRAIN PIPE. IT STANDS TO REASON THAT THIS DRAIN PIPE DIRECTS WATER RIGHT ONTO THE SUB FRAME IN THIS SECTION, WHICH WOULD CAUSE IT TO RUST OUT FASTER THAN THE REST OF THE FRAME. MY SUPPORTING EVIDENCE FOR THIS IS AS FOLLOWS: 1) THERE ARE 316,000+ MILES REGISTERED ON THE ODOMETER AND THE VEHICLE WAS NOT GARAGE KEPT. WHAT THIS MEANS IS THAT SURFACES EXPOSED TO ROAD DEBRIS, SALT, AND WATER SHOULD BE EQUALLY AS RUSTED. 2) THE DRIVER SIDE OF THE SUBFRAME IS COMPLETELY INTACT. 3) THE AFFECTED PORTION OF THE SUBFRAME IS ACTUALLY THE SUPERIOR (TOP) ASPECT WHICH IS DIRECTLY BELOW THE DRAIN PIPE, AS OPPOSED TO THE INFERIOR (BOTTOM) ASPECT, WHICH IS CLOSER TO THE ROAD. JUST 2 MONTHS BEFORE I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO THIS INDEPENDENT SHOP FOR CV SHAFT SERVICE, I HAD A HONDA DEALERSHIP, SPECIFICALLY CLASSIC HONDA LOCATED IN STREETSBORO, OHIO PERFORM A FRONT SWAY BAR BUSHING SERVICE AND I RECEIVED A COMPLEMENTARY INSPECTION. FOR THOSE UNFAMILIAR WITH THE SWAY BAR BUSHING LOCATION, THE BUSHINGS ARE HELD AGAINST THE FRONT SUBFRAME REAR CROSSMEMBER VIA BRACKETS THAT BOLT IN. WHAT THIS MEANS IS THAT THE HONDA TECHNICIAN WHO SERVICED MY VEHICLE LOOKED AT THE DAMAGED SUBFRAME. NOT ONLY DID THEY FAIL TO DETECT THIS ISSUE DURING THE SERVICE, THEY ALSO FAILED TO DETECT THIS ISSUE DURING THE INSPECTION FOR WHICH I SPECIFICALLY REQUESTED THAT THEY LOOK AT THE STEERING AND SUSPENSION TO ASSESS SAFETY. IF THIS SUBFRAME WOULD HAVE FAILED WHILE I WAS DRIVING, IT WOULD HAVE CAUSED CATASTROPHIC FAILURE OF THE STEERING AND SUSPENSION, TAKING AWAY MY ABILITY TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE AS WELL AS THROWING DEBRIS.

THE ISSUE IS NOT REALLY "SUSPENSION", BUT SUB-FRAME. IT IS A PART CALLED THE REAR BEAM AND IT SUPPORTS THE REAR ENGINE MOUNT. PART NUMBER 50200-S84-A00 HAS RUSTED ENTIRELY THROUGH. AS NUMEROUS PEOPLE HAVE REPORTED ONLINE, IT IS TRUE THAT AN A/C DRAIN HOSE DRIPS RIGHT ONTO THIS PIECE OF SUB-FRAME AND COMPLETELY RUSTED IT THROUGH UNTIL IT BROKE ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. I WAS ALERTED TO A POTENTIAL PROBLEM WITH THE SUBFRAME OF MY VEHICLE THAT HAS CAUSED ME TO PARK IT. THE PROBLEM IS THAT THE REAR SUBFRAME HAS RUSTED TO THE POINT THAT IT IS BROKEN IN THREE PLACES. THE REAR SUBFRAME IS LOCATED IN THE REAR PART OF THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT AND SUPPORTS THE ENGINE AND FRONT SUSPENSION. I WAS DRIVING THIS CAR FOR AN UNKNOWN LENGTH OF TIME IN THIS CONDITION. I WAS INFORMED THAT THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN AND THAT THE CAR SHOULD NOT BE DRIVEN. THE PORTION OF THE SUBFRAME THAT ATTACHES TO THE SWAY BAR IS COMPLETELY BROKEN LOOSE FROM THE FRAME. THE LOCATION OF THE RUST IS UNDER THE OUTLET OF THE AIR CONDITIONING CONDENSATE DRAIN. THIS IS THE ONLY LOCATION WHERE THE SUB FRAME IS RUSTED. THE DISTILLED WATER COMING OUT OF THE AIR CONDITIONER IS CORROSIVE TO METALS. IN MY OPINION THIS IS A DESIGN DEFECT THAT COULD HAVE BEEN REPAIRED USING A VERY MODEST COST HOSE, FITTING AND PERHAPS A CLAMP TO RE-ROUTE THE CONDENSATE DRAIN AWAY FROM THE STRUCTURAL MEMBERS OF THE CAR. REPAIR OF THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN QUOTED AT $1600. THE CAR IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. THE CENTER FOR AUTO SAFETY HAS REQUESTED A RECALL OF THESE VEHICLES. MANY OF THESE CARS ARE STILL ON THE ROAD AND TEND TO BE DRIVEN UP TO 200,000 MILES. THIS FLAW IS NOT READILY DETECTABLE AND IS DEFINITELY A SAFETY CONCERN. CAR STALLED WHEN AT COMPLETE STOP TO MAKE A TURN ON5-24-07, STARTED BACK UP IMMEDIATELY AND DROVE FINE. WHEN STARTING FROM COLD IN THE MORNING, THE VEHICLE COUGHS AND DOES NOT ACCELERATE WHEN THE ACCELERATOR IS PRESSED. AFTER SOME TIME THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME UP. The contact owns a 1999 Honda Accord. The contact stated while driving at 40 mph, the contact stated the vehicle in front suddenly braked, which caused the contact to depress on their brake pedal however the vehicle began to spin out of control and hit another vehicle in the next lane on the front passenger side door by the contacts front bumper. The contact vehicle did not sustain any damage, however, the vehicle they hit the front passenger side tire came off of that vehicle. There was no one was injured. No medical treatment was needed. No police report was filed. The contact was concerned that the cause of their vehicle spinning out of control was due to the brakes system. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 186,000.

BEGAN HEARING UNUSUAL NOISE FROM RIGHT FRONT TIRE AREA WHEN TURNING. UPON INVESTIGATING, DISCOVERED THAT THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE WAS WORN EXCESSIVELY AND THAT THE RIGHT FRONT SUB-FRAME IS ROTTED OUT. NO OTHER PART OF THE FRAME IS ROTTED ONLY THE RIGHT FRONT. APPARENT CAUSE IS A DESIGN FLAW WHERE THE A/C DRAIN TUBE IS LOCATED DIRECTLY OVER THIS SUB-FRAME AND CAUSES IT TO PREMATURELY RUST AND ROT OUT. I CANNOT GET AN ALIGNMENT BECAUSE THE SUB-FRAME IS TOO WEAK. I CANNOT DRIVE THE CAR BECAUSE THE SUB-FRAME WILL LIKELY FAIL CAUSING LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE.

THE AUTO REPAIRMAN TOLD US THE KEYS MADE POOR CONTACT INSIDE THE IGNITION SWITCH AND THAT WAS WHY IT WAS STILL SO HARD TO START. HE TAUGHT US A TEDIOUS PROCESS TO START THE CAR BUT SINCE THEN WHEN WE DRIVE IT THE ENGINE CAN SUDDENLY STOP RUNNING AND STOPP, ALSO DISABLING THE POWER STEERING. THE CAR IS NO LONGER SAFE TO DRIVE. WHEN TRAVELING AT ANY SPEED, BUT PRIMARILY ABOVE 50MPH THE CAR STALLS. I WILL PULL THE CAR OFF THE ROADWAY, WAIT 30 SECONDS AND ATTEMPT TO RESTART. MY 1999 HONDA ACCORD HAD A STRANGE PASSENGER-SIDE BODY SOUND WHILE DRIVING AT LOW SPEED. I WENT TO THE LOCAL MECHANIC WHO SAID THE PASSENGER SIDE SUB-FRAME WAS THOROUGHLY RUSTED. I SPENT $3300 TOTAL TO REPLACE THE SUB-FRAME WITH A NEW ONE FROM A HONDA DEALER FOR $982.18 AND TWO DAYS OF LABOR FOR $1100. THE MECHANIC AND I BOTH REVIEWED THE INTERNET FOR HONDA ACCORD RECALLS ON THIS SUB-FRAME FOR THE 1999-2002 MODEL YEARS. I WAS SURPRISED THERE HAS NOT BEEN A RECALL AS I WAS LUCKY TO NOTICE THIS BEFORE IT BECAME A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD. I STARTED DRIVING DOWN A FREEWAY SIDE-ROAD AND AS I APPROACHED A STOP SIGN THE BRAKES SLOWLY WENT DOWN TO THE FLOOR. USING THE REGULAR BRAKES AND THE EMERGENCY BRAKE I STOPPED WITHOUT INCIDENT. I PULLED OVER AND FOUND THAT THE BRAKE LINE HAD A LARGE LEAK APPROXIMATELY IN THE MIDDLE AND UNDERNEATH THE CAR. BELOW ARE BITS OF A LETTER I SENT IN AS PART OF A SURVEY TO THE HONDA DEALER: THE HONDA (H) DEALER IN FTWALTONBEACH, FL REFUSED TO REPLACE THE RECALL PART. I HAVE EMAILS AND NUMEROUS ATTEMPTS TO HAVE IT REPLACED; ONCE I DISCOVERED THERE WAS A RECALL PART, HONDA STILL WOULDN'T AGREE TO FIX IT. INITIALLY, I THOUGHT THEY COULDN'T FIX MY CAR PROBLEM, SO I BOUGHT A HAYNES MANUAL, SEARCHED THE WEB AND ATTEMPTED TO DIAGNOSE IT MYSELF. THAT IS HOW I FOUND OUT ABOUT THE RECALL. I CONTACTED THEM ABOUT MY DISCOVERY, AND THEY TOLD ME I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR A DIAGNOSTIC (WHICH WAS INDICATED TO ME THAT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR) TO DETERMINE IF THE PART TRULY NEEDED REPLACING. THEY REFUSED TO REPLACE THE PART. THEY STATED THE PART HAD BEEN REPLACED ONLY 1/2 WAY THROUGH MY STRUGGLE TO GET THEM TO REPLACE IT. I WAS TOLD BY H CORP. THAT IT HAD NOT BEEN REPLACED. HONDA.COM INDICATED THAT IT NEEDED REPLACING, AND THEN MIRACULOUSLY MID-WAYS THROUGH MY BATTLE WITH GSH IT SHOWS UP IN THE COMPUTER AS HAVING BEEN REPLACED. I HAVE HAD THE CAR SINCE BEFORE THE RECALL. I KNOW FOR A FACT THAT IT HAD NOT BEEN REPLACED. I DO WONDER HOW MANY OTHER WOMEN AND UNSUSPECTING MEN THEY HAVE GOUGED IN THE POCKET TO RANDOMLY REPLACE GOOD PARTS ($1000 - $2000 FOR ME). THIS IS A FOLLOW-UP TO A PREVIOUS COMPLAINT - 10020962 FROM LAST YEAR. LOW AND BEHOLD, 4 MONTHS AFTER MY BRAKE ROTORS WERE TURNED AND REPAIRED, THE BRAKES STARTED TO WARP AGAIN. THE HONDA DEALERSHIP WOULD NOT RE-REPAIR THEM - THEY INDICATED THAT THE AFTERMARKET BRAKE PADS ON THE FRONT WERE CAUSING THE PROBLEM (THE BRAKE PADS WERE FINE). I TOOK MY CAR TO ANOTHER FACILITY - ONE THAT FIXES AND MAINTAINS RACE CARS - THEY INDICATED THAT AUTO MAKERS ARE USING LIGHTER (AND LESS DURABLE) PARTS TO ENHANCE MPG RATINGS - WHICH IS MORE LIKELY THE CAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM WITH MY HONDA ACCORD, AS WELL AS WITH OTHER TYPES OF VEHICLES. THE GOOD NEWS WAS THAT WHILE MY CAR WAS IN, I WAS ABLE TO GET THE RECALL ON THE IGNITION SWITCH FIXED, AND AT THE SAME TIME, THEY INDICATED THAT MY CAR NEEDS A NEW CATALYTIC CONVERTER - I BELIEVE THIS IS THE SAME ISSUE MANY HONDA OWNERS ARE FACING - "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT COMES ON ABOUT 3-4 MONTHS INTO EACH NEW GAS CAP. I'VE HAD 4 FOR THIS VEHICLE (AND HAVE NOT LOST ANY). I'VE NEVER REPLACED A GAS CAP IN MY LIFE BEFORE, JUST AS I HAVE NEVER HAD BRAKE ROTOR PROBLEMS BEFORE. THE ONLY GOOD THING I COULD SAY WAS THAT THEY DID NOT CHARGE ME THE DIAGNOSTIC FEE - GIVEN THE PROBLEMS I'VE HAD, I WOULD HOPE NOT. I ENDED UP HAVING THE O2 FILTER / SENSOR (WHATEVER IT IS) REPLACED AT ANOTHER FACILITY - WHICH TOOK CARE OF A DROP IN MILEAGE ISSUE I WAS EXPERIENCING. DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD WHEN THE CRANKSHAFT PULLY FELL OUT OF THE BOTTOM OF THE ENGINE, RESULTING IN POWER STEEERING FAILURE AND ENGINE DIED. THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT, THE ALTENATOR QUIT, THE WATER PUMP QUIT. LUCKILY I COULD COAST INTO A PARKING LOT ENTRANCE TO GET OFF OF THE HIGHWAY.THE CRANKSHAFT BOLT "CRYSTALIZED" AND BROKE OFF INSIDE THE CRANKSHAFT. THE TIMING BELT, CRANKSHAFT PULLY AND BOLT, AND THE WATER PUMP HAD TO BE REPLACED. *AK

I'M HAVING PROBLEMS WITH BOTH THE IGNITION AND MY DOOR LOCKS. I TOOK MY VEHICLE BACK FOR THE RECALL, BUT I AM STILL HAVING PROBLEMS WITH STALLING, BUT MORESO WITH THE CAR ATTEMPTING TO TURN OFF. I GET FLICKERING OF ALL THE INDICATOR LIGHTS, AND IF I DO NOT HIT THE GAS PEDAL, THE CAR SHUTS OFF COMPLETELY. I ALSO HAVE AN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH MY DOORS NOT LOCKING FROM THE DRIVER'S SIDE. WHEN I HIT THE LOCK BUTTON, ALL DOORS LOCK EXCEPT MINE. MY ALARM SYSTEM (VIPER) HAS AN AUTOMATIC DOOR LOCK FEATURE BUT ALL THE DOORS EXCEPT THE DRIVER'S DOOR LOCKS. THE KNOCKING NOISE WAS THERE SINCE A FEW MONTHS AFTER I BOUGHT THE CAR.THE DEALER SAID THAT'S NORMAL WITH NEW HONDAS B/C THE GEARS . HAD BROKEN-IN, BENEFIT OF A DOUBT. BUT AFTER THAT THE KNOCKING HAPPENED MO RE OFTEN I BECAME SUSPICIOUS AND ASKED A FRIEND WITH A 4CYL '99 ACCORDLX HE SAID THAT HE NEVER HAD THAT PROBLEM. MINE WAS AN EXV6 TOP OF THE LINE THIS SHOULDN'T HAPPEN. AND THE LAST TIME I BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALER THEY HEARD IT AT LEAST ONCE BUT THAY SAID THAT THEY CAN'T DUPLICATE IT ON DEMAND SO THEY CAN'T PINPOINT WH AT'S CAUSING IT. THIS SHOULD'VE BEEN FIXED A LONG TIME AGO BY THE DEALER. BRAKES AND STEERING DID NOT WORK, CAR FROZE,CAUSING ME TO GO OFF THE ROAD: REPAIR MECH ANIC SAID,'TIMING BELT". MAINTENANCE WAS DONE 2 MO. PRIOR AT DEALER. THE DEALER SERVICE STATION SHOULD HAVE INSPECTED THE TIMING BELT. EVEN SO THE CAR SHOULD NO T FREEZE B/C OF A TIMING BELT- BRAKES AND STEERING ARE VITAL TO A VEHICLES SAFET Y WITHOUT THESE AIRBAGS AND SEATBELTS ARE JUST CUSHIONS FOR ACCIDENTS WAITING TO HAPPEN. MY PRIMARY CONCERN IS THE ENGINE TROUBLE WITH MY 1999 ACCORD. WHEN I NEED TO ACCELERATE THE CAR "MISFIRES" ACCORDING TO THE GRESHAM HONDA DEALERSHIP. THIS IS WHERE THE CAR IS BEING SERVICED. AT TIMES THE ACCELERATION STICKS AT BOTH 2-3RPMS. BASICALLY, THERE IS NO ACCELERATION. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT NO LONGER COMES ON WHEN THE CAR HESITATES. THE FIRST TWO TIMES THAT THE CAR WAS TAKEN TO THE HONDA DEALERSHIP THE CHECK LIGHT DID COME ON. MY CAR IS CURRENTLY ON IT'S 5TH STAY WITH HONDA. THEY(HONDA AND THEIR TECHNICIANS) SEEM TO HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS. HOPEFULLY THE PROBLEM WILL BE RESOLVED EASILY AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, QUICKLY. I'D HATE TO BE THE CAUSE OF AN ACCIDENT. EQUALLY AS IMPORTANT, I HAVE HAD A FAILURE WITH MY ABS. WHILE THERE WAS NO ACCIDENT, I BARELY STOPPED AT THE INTERSECTION WHILE BRAKES LOCKED UP ON PAVEMENT. I HAVE HAD PASSENGERS IN MY VEHICLE ON SUCH OCCASIONS AND EACH WOULD BE WILLING TO GIVE TESIMONIES TO SUCH FAILURES AS LISTED ABOVE. IN FACT, THE HONDA TECHNICIAN HAS ALSO EXPERIENCED THE "MISFIRE" FIRST HAND IN MY ACCORD.
