TL* THE CONTACT CALLED ON BEHALF OF A CLIENT WHO OWNS A 2002 HYUNDAI SANTA FE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE HIS CLIENT WAS DRIVING AT 55 MPH, SHE EXPERIENCED WHAT SHE THOUGHT WAS A FLAT TIRE ON THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. AS THE CLIENT BEGAN TO PULL OVER, THE ENTIRE PASSENGER'S SIDE REAR CONTROL ARM COLLAPSED WITHOUT WARNING. DUE TO THE FAILURE, THE CONTACT'S CLIENT HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO HIS INDEPENDENT MECHANIC SHOP WHERE HE DISCOVERED THAT THE ENTIRE LOWER REAR CONTROL WAS CORRODED AND HAD DETACHED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT LINKED THE FAILURE TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 09V123000 (SUSPENSION) HOWEVER, UPON SPEAKING WITH TWIN CITY HYUNDAI (3024 ALCOA HWY, ALCOA, TN 37701) THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 160,000.*DT*JB

UPON INVESTIGATION, THE CONTACT DISCOVERED NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 09V123000 (SUSPENSION) WHICH HE LINKED TO THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER OR INDEPENDENT MECHANIC TO BE DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS ON THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 150,000.

THIS SANTA FE HAS A REAR RIGHT TRAILING ARM THAT HAS COMPLETELY RUSTED AND HAS ALSO DISINTEGRATED THE WHEEL BEARING ASSEMBLY, WHEEL HUB, EMERGENCY BRAKE CABLE AND SPRING. I CHECKED THE WEBSITE FOR A RECALL ON THIS VEHICLE, THERE IS A RECALL FOR THE REAR TRAILING ARMS, BUT THIS VIN NUMBER WAS NOT PART OF THE RECALL. THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN REGISTERED IN THE NORTHEAST "SALT BELT" AND SHOULD HAVE BEEN INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. BECAUSE OF THIS OVERSIGHT BY NOT INCLUDING THIS VIN ON THE RECALL IT HAS CAUSED MASSIVE CORROSION ON ALL ATTACHED PARTS. THE RIGHT REAR SIDE HAS BEEN MORE AFFECTED THAN THE REAR LEFT SIDE. I WOULD GREATLY APPRECIATE ANY ASSISTANCE YOU COULD PROVIDE ME IN PROVIDING A REMEDY FOR THIS SITUATION

MY 2002 2.7 SANTA FE REVED WAY UP SPONTANEOUSLY TONIGHT. I BANGED GAS PEDAL REPEATEDLY WITH FOOT BUT DID NOTHING. AS I APPROACHED STOPLIGHT BRAKES WOULD HARDLY STOP THE CAR; SHIFTED TO NEUTRAL, RPMS WENT WAY UP AND I TURNED OFF CAR. CONTINUED MY 1 MILE TRIP HOME AND ENGINE WOULD BY ITSELF REV DOWN ONLY TO IMMEDIATELY REV WAY BACK UP. COULD SMELL MY BRAKES BURNING BY THE TIME I GOT HOME. WHAT EVER IS GOING ON HERE IS VERY DANGEROUS.

CAR TURNED LEFT ONTO 30 MPH SPEED LIMIT N. HIGHLAND AVE. ATLANTA, CAR IMMEDIATELY LURCHED INTO WOT (WIDE OPEN THROTTLE) EXECUTING AN UNINTENDED ACCELERATION. STANDING ON THE BRAKE WITH BOTH FEET, ENGAGING EMERGENCY BRAKE, AND FINALLY KNOCKING IT OUT OF GEAR, THE CAR STOPPED 10 FEET IN FRONT OF AN OUTSIDE PATIO OF BEER DRINKERS SITTING AT TABLES AT A LOCAL BAR. NO ONE WAS HURT, BUT, IT WAS BY PURE LUCK AND FAST REACTION BY MY SON WHO IS DEATHLY AFRAID OF THIS CAR NOW. I PERSONALLY REMOVED THE ENGINE COVER TO FIND THE CRUISE CONTROL CABLE HAD SEPARATED WHERE IT IS STAKED INTO IT'S MOUNTING HARDWARE. THE STAKED END SHEATH OF THE CABLE IS PULLED OUT OF IT'S STAKED HOUSING TUBE AND IN SOME CASES MAY GO BACK INTO IT CAUSING THE PROBLEM TO BE INTERMITTENT AND UNREPEATABLE ON REQUEST, HOWEVER, OUR CABLE END WAS UNABLE TO REENTER IT'S POSITION RESULTING IN THE THROTTLE REMAINING OPEN. THE CABLE IS TOO SHORT BY DESIGN LEAVING IT TO BE ON A CONSTANT PULL UNTIL IT OVERCOMES THE STAKING AND SLIPS OUT. JIM ELLIS HYUNDAI HAS NEVER HEARD OF THIS HAPPENING BEFORE THIS DATE. I RECENTLY BOUGHT A USED HYUNDAI SANTE FE (2002). I'M STILL ON MY FIRST TANK OF GAS AND TWICE NOW I HAVE EXPERIENCED SUDDEN ACCELERATION. MY 2002 HYUNDAI 2002 SANTE FE HAS A 2-PART CATALYTIC CONVERTER. HYUNDAI HAS A WARRANTY--REQUIRED BY FEDERAL LAW, I UNDERSTAND--THAT COVERS THIS FOR 8 YEARS, 80,000 MILES. MY CAR IS WITHIN THAT CRITERIA. THE SECOND CONVERTER BROKE OFF, AND NEITHER NOW WORK. HYUNDAI AND ITS DEALER, MARHOFER HYUNDAI OF CUYAHOGA FALLS, OHIO, REFUSE TO HONOR THE WARRANTY, BECAUSE THE MAIN CONVERTER WOULD WORK IF THE SECOND, AND AN ENTIRELY NEW EXHAUST SYSTEM, WERE INSTALLED. THE CAR IS UNDRIVEABLE, SOUNDING LIKE A TRUCK AND SPEWING EXHAUST. ANOTHER SHOP IS REPLACING THIS, AND THE OWNER TOLD ME HIS VENDOR HAS JUST SOLD FIVE OF THESE CONVERTERS/EXHAUST SYSTEMS. THE SHOP JUST PUT ONE IN ON A HYUNDAI SANTE FE, AND MINE WILL MAKE SEVEN IN A SMALL CITY (AKRON) IN A VERY SHORT PERIOD OF TIME. YET HYUNDAI WILL DO NOTHING, AND MARHOFER WANTS $2,000 FOR THE WORK. THIS PROBLEM IS A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE EXHAUST FROM THE BROKEN CONVERTER COULD ENTER THE VEHICLE AND CAUSE INJURY TO THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER. *TR

THE FAILURE BECAME PROGRESSIVELY WORSE OVER TIME AND BEGAN TO RECUR MORE FREQUENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO VARIOUS AUTHORIZED DEALERS AND INDEPENDENT MECHANICS WHO WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. BOTH THE FRONT AND REAR BRAKES HAVE BEEN REPLACED BUT THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO OCCUR. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 100,000.

2002 HYUNDAI SANTA FE GLS. WHEN MODERATELY BRAKING TO SLOW DOWN TO EXIT THE INTERSTATE THE CAR RAPIDLY DECELERATED AND VIBRATED VIOLENTLY. PULLED OVER AND COULD NOT GET THE CAR TO GO OVER 20 MPH. MY INITIAL IMPRESSION WAS THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS FAILING. THIS HAPPENED RANDOMLY ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. THE 2ND TIME IT OCCURRED I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE NEAREST HYUNDAI DEALER. DEALER COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. I DROVE THE CAR BACK WITHOUT INCIDENT AND DROPPED IT OFF AT THE HYUNDAI DEALER THAT SOLD ME THE CAR. THEY HAD THE VEHICLE FOR SEVERAL DAYS BEFORE THEY COULD REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM. THE DIAGNOSIS WAS A FAULTY BRAKE SYSTEM MASTER CYLINDER AND PROPORTIONING VALVE. COST OF THE REPAIR WAS OVER $500. I INVESTIGATED THIS PROBLEM AT VARIOUS HYUNDAI FORUMS ON THE INTERNET AND LEARNED THAT THIS SAME PROBLEM HAS BEEN REPORTED ON OTHER HYUNDAI VEHICLES (INCLUDING MY GENERATION OF SANTA FE). 2002 & 2004 HYUNDAI SANTA FE TRANSMISSION CASE DEFECT: WE LIKED THE FIRST SO MUCH, WE BOUGHT A SECOND.... NO INDICATION OF MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS IN OWNERS MANUAL. REGARDING TRANSFER CASE ATTENTION OR MAINTENANCE WHICH VIOLENTLY CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO DANGEROUSLY, ABRUPTLY STOP - RESULTING IN A DANGEROUS HIGHWAY SAFETY SITUATION AND PERSONAL INJURY. WE HAVE THE OLD TRANSFER CASE - WHICH LOOKS INSIDE, LIKE A TOSSED SALAD. WE PAID FOR THE REPLACEMENT BY WESTERN AUTO - A MATTER THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. REPORTED IN GREAT DETAIL TO HYUNDAI USA, THEY DENY RESPONSIBILITY OR WARRANTY COVERAGE IN EFFECT AT THE TIME PROBLEM WAS NOTICED. FURTHERMORE, THE VEHICLES WERE PURCHASED AS 'DEALER DEMOS,' WITH LOW MILEAGE AND FULL MANUFACTURERS 100,00 MILE, 10 YEAR WARRANTY - UNFORTUNATELY FROM A DEALER MISREPRESENTING THEMSELVES AS AN AUTHORIZED HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP. 2002 VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY THE DEALERSHIP WHEN PROBLEM REALIZED, - DURING WARRANTY PERIOD, BUT REPORTED NO PROBLEM. WE LATER DISCOVERED A REPAIR / MODIFICATION KIT WAS ISSUED BY HYUNDAI TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM - PURCHASED AT WESTERN AUTO - HYUNDAI SERVICE MANAGER CLAIMED HE HAD NO KNOWLEDGE OF THE ITEM UNTIL WE SHOWED IT TO HIM IN A BRAND NEW UNOPENED BOX. HYUNDAI DID INSTALL THE MODIFICATION / REPAIR KIT TO THE SECOND 2004 SANTA FE AFTER WE BROUGHT IT TO THEIR ATTENTION. ALL DOCUMENTED BY HIDDEN CAMERA VIDEO RECORDING. DANGEROUS AND COSTLY SITUATION. I BOUGHT A 2002 HYUNDAI SANTA FE, STANDARD 5-SPEED. SINCE THAT TIME I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE CLUTCH TWICE. NOW I AM REPLACING IT AGAIN AS IT WAS DAMAGED BY THE FLY WHEEL. A NEW FLY WHEEL COSTS $1500.00. I HAVE MADE EXTENSIVE EFFORTS TO FIND A USED ONE. MOST OF THE SALVAGE YARDS TELL ME THAT THEY DON'T HAVE ONE BECAUSE IT IS A FREQUENT PROBLEM AND EVERYONE IS LOOKING FOR ONE. MY MECHANIC TELLS ME MOST FLY WHEELS ARE MOUNTED TO THE ENGINE AND DON'T HAVE THIS PROBLEM. ALSO MOST FLY WHEELS COST UNDER $100.00, SO MOST WARRANTIES DO NOT COVER THE FLY WHEEL. HI I WENT TO MY HYUNDAI DEALER TODAY FOR WHAT APPEARED TO BE A RE-OCCURRING FLUID LEAK ON THE TRANSFER CASE SEAL, FRONT PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. I WAS TOLD THIS TIME THAT THE LEAK WAS CAUSED BY A VENT TUBE LOCATED AT THE TRANSFER CASE. THE TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN REFERENCED BY THE SERVICE ADVISOR STATES THAT THE FLUID WILL ONLY APPEAR DURING VERY COLD TEMPERATURES. THIS SEEMS TO BE WHAT IS HAPPENING RIGHT NOW ,WITH MY VEHICLE. I AM ALSO TOLD THAT THIS NEW UNIT WILL NOT BE REPLACED UNDER THE POWER TRAIN WARRANTY. I ASKED WHY NOT?? IF THIS IS A DESIGN FLAW ON HYUNDAI'S PART ,HYUNDAI SHOULD RECALL THE AFFECTED VEHICLES AND INSTALL THE NEW VENT TUBE UNIT AT THERE COST,NOT THE CONSUMERS'. THE 2002 HYUNDAI SANTA FE V6 WILL EITHER NOT START, STALL WHEN MOVING OR RUN EXTREMELY ROUGH. THE PROBLEM IS MORE NOTICEABLE WHEN IT IS RAINING OR HUMID OUT. WE ARE THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF THE SANTA FE AND HAVE MAINTAINED THE VEHICLE. THIS HAS BEEN A RECURRING PROBLEM FOR THE PAST EIGHT YEARS. THE ISSUES COMES AND GO BUT HAVE BEEN MORE CONSTANT OVER THE PAST FOUR YEARS. IN THE PAST, I HAVE REPLACED THE BATTERY AND HAD A TUNE UP PERFORMED BY THE LESTER GLENN HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP. I BOUGHT THE SANTA FE IN SERVICE SEVERAL TIMES FOR THIS PROBLEM TO BE TOLD THEY CAN NOT FIND THE PROBLEM. ON OUR LAST VISIT TO THE DEALERSHIP THEY BELIEVED IT WAS DUE TO OLD SPARK PLUG WIRES. MY LOCAL MECHANIC REPLACED THE CPS SENSOR AS PER RECALL, AND CONFIRMED THE DAMAGED CPS SENSOR WAS THE ORIGINAL PART, AND THE ISSUE WAS ULTIMATELY RESOLVED. While dragging the trash can back to the house, I was approaching fence in front of the house, at a slow speed, as I applied the brakes the car started to accelerate. Pressing down harder on the brakes ,it felt like stepping on a brick, with no braking taking place the car accelerated at a high rate. At this time the car crashed into the left side of the garage and continued into the cement porch taking out the fence, fill tube, and vent tube of the oil tank. At this time I push gear shift into N and turned off the engine. At this time there is damage done to house and car is now totaled with no injuries. Hate to think what would have happened if this happened at the major 4 lane intersection 1 mile from my home.

THE ABS SYSTEM IS ACTIVATING RANDOMLY, INCREASING THE LENGTH OF A STOP. IT WILL ACTIVATE AT 0MPH (STOPPED) OR ANY SPEED; THE INDICATION IS THE PUMP RUNNING AND A VIBRATION IN THE BRAKE PEDAL. I DETERMINED THAT THE PROBLEM IS THAT BOTH FRONT ABS RELUCTOR (TOOTHED WHEELS) RINGS ARE BROKEN. THE SYSTEM (ABS, TRACS) FAILS COMPLETELY AS INDICATED BY THE DASH MONITOR, AT A SUSTAINED 50MPH OR HIGHER. SEARCHING ON THE INTERNET, I FOUND THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH SOME VEHICLES. HOWEVER, SINCE IT IS DUE TO CORROSION, IT CAN TAKE AN LONG TIME TO APPEAR. CONTACTING HYUNDAI, THEY INDICATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY AND THEREFORE NOT COVERED. I CANNOT EVEN FIND OUT HOW TO REPLACE THE RINGS IN THE FACTORY SHOP MANUAL, THOUGH THEY APPEAR TO BE HEAT SHRUNK ON. RETURNED HOME AND SAW P/S FLUID DRIPPING ONTO THE DRIVEWAY, REFILLED THE RESERVOIR, AND WENT TO THE LOCAL HYUNDAI DEALER TO HAVE IT CHECKED OUT. THE DEALER INSPECTION REVEALED RUSTED METAL LINES LEADING TO AND FROM THE P/S COOLER (BELOW RADIATOR), AND QUOTED $540 FOR REPLACEMENT OF THE METAL LINES AND COOLER (& 2 DAYS LEAD TIME TO GET PARTS). MY DAUGHTER CALLED OUT "HELP, MOMMY! I'M STUCK!" I LOOKED IN THE REAR-VIEW MIRROR TO FIND THE SHOULDER-BELT OF MY VEHICLE WAS WRAPPED AROUND HER NECK. I THOUGHT IT WAS ONLY PULLED TO THE SIDE OF HER HEAD SO I ASKED HER TO DUCK HER HEAD OUT. SHE SAID "I CAN'T, I'M STUCK!" I PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. WHEN I GOT TO HER, HER FACE WAS GETTING RED. I DUCKED HER HEAD UNDER THE BELT. TO MY HORROR, THE BELT WAS WRAPPED AROUND HER NECK AGAIN. THANKFULLY SHE COULD CALL TO ME. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A TERRIBLE TRAGEDY. THE LOCKING MECHANISMS ON THE SHOULDER-BELTS THAT ARE SUPPOSED TO ACTIVATE WHEN YOU FULLY RETRACT THE BELT TO INSTALL A CHILD SAFETY SEAT ARE BROKEN. I HAVE BEEN THROUGH THREE DEFECTIVE MECHANISMS SO FAR. WHEN I FIRST INSTALLED THE SEAT, THE MECHANISM WORKED. AFTER NEEDING TO REMOVE THE SEAT AT ONE POINT AND DISENGAGING THE MECHANISM, IT QUIT WORKING. IT NEVER LOCKED AGAIN. SO, I SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT WITH THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THE PROBLEM FIXED, AS MY VEHICLE WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY. IN THE MEANTIME, I MOVED HER SEAT TO THE OTHER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. SAME PROBLEM. THE LOCKING MECHANISM OF THE BELT WORKED, UNTIL I HAD TO DISENGAGE IT. THEN THAT SIDE BROKE. MY VEHICLE WAS NO LONGER UNDER THE BUMPER TO BUMPER WARRANTY, SO I MOVED THE SEAT TO THE REPAIRED SIDE. AFTER A WHILE, I NEEDED TO MOVE HER SEAT AND DISENGAGE THE LOCKING MECHANISM. IT QUIT WORKING! I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP. THE PART WAS UNDER WARRANTY, BUT LABOR WASN'T. I DIDN'T HAVE IT REPAIRED BECAUSE I COULDN'T AFFORD IT AT THE TIME. IN ORDER TO KEEP MY SEATS INSTALLED CORRECTLY, I BEGAN USING THE LOCKING CLIPS THAT CAME WITH THE SEATS. (NOW I HAVE TWO CHILDREN.) THIS IS THE SECOND TIME WE HAVE A NEAR SERIOUS ACCIDENT WITH MY WIFE DRIVING THE TRUCK. 6/26/12 THE LEFT STEERING CONTROL ARM BROKE OFF THE TOTAL RUSTED OUT SUB-FRAME CAUSING THE TRUCK TO STEER DANGEROUSLY INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. THERE IS EXTENSIVE AND THROUGH THICKNESS CORROSION ON THE FRONT RIGHT SUBFRAME OF MY HYUNDAI 2002 SANTA FE, IT HAS RESULTED IN THE BOLTED JOINT OF THE CONTROL ARM SEPARATING FROM THE SUB FRAME. I HAVE A 2002 SANTA FE THAT BROKE ITS REAR LEFT ARM DUE TO RUSTING AND THE LEFT REAR WHEEL IS ALMOST DETACHED. THIS HAPPENED WHEN MY DEALER TRIED TO FILL UP THE GAS TANK BEFORE HANDING ME THE KEYS AND THOUGHT THE VEHICLE WAS FULL OF GAS AND THE GAS GAUGE WAS BROKEN. I RAN OUT OF GAS THE SAME NIGHT AND FOUND OUT THAT THE GAS WAS INDEED EMPTY AND THE GAUGE WORKED FINE AFTER PUTTING GAS IN FROM A GAS CONTAINER. WHEN TRYING TO FILL UP WITH GAS FROM THAT POINT ON, EVEN WHEN THE GAS TANK IS EMPTY, THE GAS GETS EJECTED BACKED OUT AFTER ONLY A FEW SECONDS OF FILLING AND I GET GAS ON MYSELF DUE TO A FAILURE SOMEWHERE IN THE ON-BOARD REFUELING VAPOR RECOVERY SYSTEM. I HAVE TO FILL THE GAS VERY SLOWLY, ABOUT 1 GALLON OF GAS WILL TAKE APPROXIMATELY 3-5 MINUTES TO PUT IN. THIS CAN LEAD TO INADVERTENTLY INHALING VAPOR DUE TO BEING AT THE PUMP FOR SO LONG AND THAT GAS IS ON MY CLOTHES AND IT ALSO CAN BE CONSIDERED A FIRE RISK SINCE YOU ARE COVERED WITH GAS. THE MECHANICS THAT MY DEALER PROVIDED DECIDED TO BYPASS THE VENT IN THE HOSE WHERE THE GAS COMES IN FROM THE FILLING NOZZLE TO THE GAS TANK. THIS HELPED PUT MORE GAS IN AT ONE TIME, BUT IT WAS STILL SPITTING GAS BACK OUT, AND THE PROBLEM GOT WORSE IN ABOUT A WEEK WHEN IT WENT BACK INTO THE ORIGINAL STATE WHERE GAS WILL SPIT BACK OUT AFTER A FEW SECONDS OF FILLING. AFTER RESEARCHING, IT CAN BE THAT THE CHARCOAL PELLETS MAY HAVE COME LOOSE DUE TO PREVIOUS OWNERS OVERFILLING OR THAT THE MESH COTTON THAT KEEPS THE PELLETS IN MIGHT HAVE DETERIORATE OVER TIME DUE TO THE GAS EATING AWAY AT THE MATERIAL AND THEREFORE RELEASING THE PELLETS. THE FAN SPEED SWITCH FOR THE BLOWER MOTOR INSIDE THE VEHICLE HAS FAILED FOR THE SECOND TIME. IT FIRST STARTED A WEEK BEFORE CHRISTMAS IN DECEMBER OF 2007, I CAME OUT OF THE STORE STARTED THE CAR AND THE BLOWER WOULDN'T CAME ON FOR THE HEATER. I HAD TO JIGGLE THE SWITCH FOR THE FAN SPEED CONTROL TO GET THE BLOWER TO COME ON, IT WORKED FOR AWHILE, BUT IT FAILED COMPLETELY. I HAD NO WARNING AT ALL, THE FAN SPEED BLOWER SWITCH JUST STOPPED WORKING. I WENT TO THE DEALER AND BOUGHT THE PART FOR $20.57, IT WAS WORKING FINE AND THEN ON 7/19/2008 I CAME OUT OF THE STORE STARTED THE CAR, I ENGAGED THE AIR CONDITIONER AND IT HAPPENED AGAIN. THE TIRES ON OUR VEHICLE ARE FAILING. THEY ARE PROSPECTOR BRAND TIRES, SIZE 225 70 16; DOT BF 5CF9CC 4404 (3 TIRES) AND DOT BF 5CF9CC 3604 (1 TIRE). IN THE 3 YEARS WE HAVE OWNED THESE TIRES WE HAVE ALWAYS HAD DIFFICULTY KEEPING THEM BALANCED. THE TIRES HAVE LESS THAN 20,000 MILES ON THEM, AND HAVE SIGNIFICANT TREAD LIFE REMAINING. OVER THE YEARS WE HAVE HAD TO REBALANCE THEM FREQUENTLY (ABOUT 7 TIMES, MOST RECENTLY LESS THAN 1000 MILES AGO). AT THE LAST BALANCING, THE MECHANIC SAID THAT THERE WERE BULDGES APPEARING IN THE TIRES, INDICATING TO HIM THAT THE TIRES WERE EXPERIENCING MULTIPLE PLY SEPARATIONS. NOW, ONCE AGAIN, THE TIRES ARE SHIMMYING ALMOST UNCONTROLLABLY AT EXPRESSWAY SPEED; LESS SO AT SPEEDS BELOW 40 MPH, BUT STILL SHAKING. USING THE INTERNET, I FOUND THAT PROSPECTOR TIRES HAD BEEN RECALLED BY THEIR MANUFACTURER, BF GOODRICH, ONCE BEFORE. I CALLED BF GOODRICH (AT 1-877-788-8899) AND WAS TOLD THEY HAD ABSOLUTELY NO INFORMATION ON THE PROSPECTOR TIRES, OTHER THAN THAT THEY WERE MANUFACTURED IN THE SAME PLANT THAT MAKES BF GOODRICH TIRES. IN JULY 2014, HYUNDAI MADE AN INSPECTION OF THE WORK. I ASKED FOR REIMBURSEMENT FOR THE RECALL BUT WAS DECLINED AS NOT BEING WITHIN A CAMPAIGN. RECENTLY, THE REAR BRAKES, ROTORS, AND CALIPER WERE REPLACED (FOR THE SECOND TIME). .AFTERWARD, A NOISE I HEARD BECAME LOUDER. ON 8/11/16 THE NOISE WAS DIAGNOSED. IT WAS FOUND THAT NEW SHOCKS WERE NEEDED, AND "REAR PASSENGER LOWER CONTROL ARM IS STARTING TO ROT FROM RUST AND CAUSE NOISE." I WAS TOLD TO HAVE IT REPAIRED BY HYUNDAI. I BOUGHT THE CAR FROM NATIONAL AUTO SALES IN GLASSBORO, NJ. HYUNDAI APPARENTLY DID NOT KNOW I AM THE OWNER OF THE CAR, AND I NEVER RECEIVED ANY RECALL NOTICES FROM HYUNDAI. CARS ARE NOT LIKE CLOTHING WHEREBY YOU TRY IT ON AND IF IT DOESN'T FIT YOU DON'T BUY IT. A CAR SHOULD UNDERGO INTENSE INSPECTION BY THE STATE BEFORE A DEALERSHIP CAN PUT IT ON THEIR LOT. DUE TO THIS THE CAR IS NOT DRIVABLE AND WE ARE TOLD BY THE DEALERSHIP THAT, ALTHOUGH THE SUBFRAME AND CONTROLLER ARM WILL BE COVERED, THE DAMAGE TO THE STRUTS AND TIRES ARE OUR RESPONSIBILITY TO THE SUM $973.31. OUR PERSONAL MECHANIC STATES THAT THE FRONT TIRES (UNDER 4 YEARS OLD AND HAVING LESS THAN 3000 MILES ON THEM) AND THE STRUTS (UNDER 5 YEARS OLD) WOULD NOT NEED TO BE REPLACED IF NOT FOR THE ISSUE WITH THE SUBFRAME AND CONTROLLER ARM. AFTER STARTING THE ENGINE I COMMENCED TO TURN MY WIPERS ON AS IT WAS A VERY SNOWY DAY AND VISIBILITY WAS VERY DIFFICULT. MY WIPERS WOULD NOT WORK AT THE IDLE. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 HYUNDAI SANTA FE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 27 MPH, THE CONTACT HEARD AN UNUSUAL NOISE INSIDE AND OUTSIDE THE VEHICLE. THE BRAKE, TRACTION CONTROL, AND ABS WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED BY TWO DIFFERENT PRIVATE MECHANICS. BOTH MECHANICS OFFERED DIFFERENT OPINIONS OF WHAT CAUSED THE FAILURE. THE FRONT BRAKES OR THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE COIL SPRINGS COULD BE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED ACCORDING TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V435000 (SUSPENSION) BECAUSE THE CONTACT DID NOT RECEIVE THE SECOND RECALL NOTIFICATION. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE ISSUE. WHEN EVER THE UNDER ENGINE GETS WET THE CAR TURNS OFF AND THE BRAKE LIGHT AND OIL LIGHTS COME ON. WHEN IT STOPS I CAN'T TURN THE WHEEL AND IT LOCKS UP. I WAS DRIVING ON INTERSTATE IN THE RAIN AND THE CAR STARTED JOLTING THAT THE CAR WAS OFF THEN ON THEN OFF THEN ON AGAIN. I HAD NO CONTROL OF THE CAR IN THE TORRENTIAL RAIN GOING 60 MILES AN HOUR. WHENEVER IT RAINS OR IF I GO THROUGH A PUDDLE OF WATER THIS HAS HAPPENED AGAIN AND AGAIN. WHEN I TOOK IT TO THE AUTO DEALER THAT I BOUGHT THE CAR FROM, I WAS TOLD THAT NORMALLY THERE IS AN ENGINE UNDERCOVER BUT THERE IS NOT ONE ON MY CAR NOR WAS THERE EVER ONE PUT ON BY THE MANUFACTURER. HAVING NO ENGINE UNDERCOVER CAUSES THE CAR TO STALL OUT WHENEVER WATER IS SPLASHED UP ONTO THE ENGINE. THIS CAUSES THE BELT TO AJAR AND THAT STOPS ELECTRICAL FROM FLOWING TO THE CAR AND THEREFORE IT STALLS OUT AT VERY DANGEROUS TIMES; LIKE DRIVING IN TRAFFIC OR DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE. MY 2002 HYUNDAI SANTA FE LX WENT FULL THROTTLE TODAY AND STAYED THERE. I WAS DRIVING ALONG AT 30 MPH WITH THE GAS PEDAL NORMALLY PRESSED AND THE CAR FELT LIKE CRUISE CONTROL WAS TURNED ON. I APPLIED THE BRAKES AND THE THROTTLE KEPT CLIMBING, SO I PULLED OVER AND PUT IT IN NEUTRAL. THE THROTTLE WAS NOW FULLY OPEN AT THIS POINT SO I TURNED THE ENGINE OFF. WITH REPEATED STARTS, THE ENGINE IMMEDIATELY WENT INTO FULL THROTTLE WHILE IN NEUTRAL. THE GAS PEDAL WASN'T PRESSED DOWN OR STUCK. I HAD JUST DROPPED OFF MY SON TO SCHOOL WHEN THE ACCELERATOR STARTED TO REV UP AND AFTER DROPPING HIM OFF IT CONTINUED TO DO SO UNTIL I GOT CLOSE TO MY PLACE OF EMPLOYMENT WHEN THE CAR STARTED TO ACCELERATE MORE AND I HAD A HARD TIME STOPPING IT I HAD BOTH FEET ON THE BRAKES AND WAS PULLING THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AT THE SAME TIME, AS I PULLED INTO A PARKING SPOT THE CAR WOULD NOT STOP AND I WENT OVER A PARKING BUMPER AND TURNED THE CAR OFF! TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 HYUNDAI SANTA FE. THE CONTACT STARTED THE IGNITION AND EXPERIENCED ELECTRICAL FAILURE. THE FAILURE OCCURRED WHENEVER THE VEHICLE WAS IN OPERATION. THE FIRST FAILURE ALSO OCCURRED ON THE DATE THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED. ADDITIONALLY, THERE WERE FAILURES WITH THE LOWER CONTROL ARM AND THE FILLER IN THE FUEL TANK. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED FOR THE MALFUNCTIONS; HOWEVER, THE FAILURES CONTINUED TO OCCUR WITH THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM AND SUSPENSION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIR EXPENSE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 92,000.

PURCHASED A NEW 2002 HYUNDAI SANTA FE 11/2001 WITH 11 MILES ON IT. IN 3/2007, THE RADIATOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. IN REPLACING IT, 2 MAJOR SAFETY DEFECTS WERE DISCOVERED - NO SAFETY/PROTECTIVE FOAM IN THE FRONT BUMPER AND THE SAFETY/CRASH BAR WAS BENT - I WAS TOLD THAT THE CAR MUST HAD BEEN IN A MAJOR ACCIDENT. I TOOK THE CAR BACK TO THE ORIGINAL DEALER AND THEY ACCEPTED NO RESPONSIBILITY - THEY SAID I MUST HAVE DONE IT. I HAVE HAD NO ACCIDENTS OR TICKETS AND MY DRIVING RECORD PROVES THAT. I PURCHASED A VEHICLE HISTORY REPORT, WHICH SHOWED NO ACCIDENT HISTORY. THE ONLY CONCLUSION IS THAT THE DEFECTS WERE PRESENT AT THE TIME OF SALE. WAS TOLD TO ANTICIPATE ENGINE TROUBLE TO BE INITIATED IN THE NEAR FUTURE DESPITE THE OIL CHANGE DATE BEING WITHIN LIMITS. WAS TOLD THAT EXCESSIVE OIL EXISTED AND BLAMED ME. THEN DEMANDED I PAY SEVERAL HUNDRED DOLLARS "BEFORE" THEY'D RELEASE CAR TO ME.(NEEDED FOR WORK). WE HAD PURCHASE A 2002 HYUNDAI SANTE FE ON 07/05/05 MOTOR WAY AUTO GROUP. THE CAR STARTED TO RIDE ROUGH. SO WE TOOK IT TO OUR REPAIR GUY, AT THIS TIME WE THOUGH IT WAS THE FUEL PUMP. BEFORE HE COULD CHECK ANYTHING I TOOK MY CAR HOME AND IT JUST STOPPED AND WOULD NOT START AGAIN. AT THIS TIME HE CHANGE THE CRANKSHAFT ASSEMBLY-WATER PUMP, TIMING BELT. A LOT OF COSTLY REPAIRS. DT: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING THE HARMONIC BALANCE FELL OFF. SHE HEARD A LOUD CLUNG, AND THEN LOOKED INTO REARVIEW MIRROR. AT THAT TIME SHE SAW IT ROLLING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. MY 2002 V6 4WHEEL DR HYUNDAI SANTA FE WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AT 65- 70 MPH DROPPED A DRIVE LINE, IGNITING FLAMES TO THE REAR OF THE CAR. LITHIA OF FRESNO CLAIMS IT WAS DUE TO LOW FLUIDS IN THE TRANSFER CASE, THUS IT OVERHEATED AND THE LINE SNAPPED OFF. I HAD THE VEHICLE SERVICED 2 WEEKS PRIOR, THE FLUIDS WERE FINE, THE TRANSFER CASE WAS OKAY. THERE WAS A VAGUE HUM IN THE DRIVE OF THE CAR AFTER RETURNING FROM THE MOUNTAINS THE WEEK PRIOR TO THE INCIDENT. OTHER 2ND OPINIONS BELIEVE THE AUTO SWITCH IN THE SMART SYSTEM FAILED AND LEFT IT STUCK IN 4WHEEL DR HENCE OVERHEATING THE TRANSFER CASE. IT SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER WARANTY FOR REPAIRS (120,000 ON POWER TRAIN/ENGINE) THEY DENIED THE WARANTY COVERAGE, SO IT'S NOT REPAIRED. ESTIMATE IS OVER $6,000.00. THERE SHOULD BE AN INDICATOR LIGHT IN THE CAR AS TO WHAT DRIVE IT'S IN, AND ENGINEERING MANUFACTURER DEFECT AND HAZZARD. INVESTIGATE PLEASE.*AK
