Burning oil fast has been confirmed. I always go get frequently oil changes and top off Because it burns a lot. I never get a warning lamp When I go toc get my oil service representative tells me my oil is completely gone.

While I acknowledge that my vehicle is no longer under warranty, I remain extremely concerned about the excessive oil consumption issue. My vehicle is equipped with the Theta II engine, which has been the subject of multiple class action lawsuits and recalls due to serious engine defects, including excessive oil consumption and internal engine failure. To be clear, I have already had the vehicle inspected by a non-Hyundai dealership, which confirmed there are no external oil leaks. This indicates the issue is likely internal and consistent with the known defects associated with the Theta II engine. Given Hyundai’s awareness of these problems — as reflected in class action settlements and technical service bulletins — I believe it is reasonable to expect Hyundai to cover the cost of diagnostic inspection and consider goodwill assistance if a defect is confirmed. Hyundai got back to me but and said We have reviewed your vehicle information and have determined your vehicle is affected by Campaign TXX8. However it’s over the 150000 miles

While driving to work the gas pedal suddenly would not make the vehicle Excellerate and i was barely able to get the car on the side of the road, when i stopped and turned it off it would not start again. I had it towed to the mechanic and they have let us know it was total engine failure, and they would be attempting to get ahold of the manufacture.

2013 Santa Fe burning oil, current with regular maintenance and oil changes. At times will have to top off weekly. Between full oil changes. Doesn’t seem like I should have to do that. My engine could blow if I don’t keep oil in it. Cost me tons of money Have documented all of my oil changes, from a professional business Thank you.

The engine completely failed while I was driving. This is the second engine failure I’ve experienced with this vehicle. My first engine blew at 100,000 miles, and despite having a warranty, Hyundai refused to cover it. In a panic, I had to deplete my savings to buy a replacement engine, which only lasted six months before failing again. Hyundai still refuses to cover the second failure. The failed engine may still be available for inspection if needed. I was driving on the highway with both of my children when the engine completely shut off in the middle of the road. This left us stranded in a dangerous situation with speeding cars all around us. A sudden engine failure at high speeds could have caused a major accident, risking my life, my children’s lives, and other drivers' safety. The failure was confirmed by a service center, but Hyundai refuses to take responsibility for the defect or provide coverage under my warranty. The vehicle has been inspected by a service center, but Hyundai has refused to inspect or assist in any way. There were no warning lamps or messages before the engine shut down. The failure was sudden and unexpected, leaving me in a life-threatening situation on the highway.

The contact owned a 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe. The contact stated that while driving at about 35 MPH, The steering wheel was seized on a winding road; the steering warning light had also appeared on the instrument panel. The vehicle began to veer to the right direction as the contact forcefully steered the vehicle back to the left direction to avoid hitting a fence. The vehicle then spun into the opposite side of the road before hitting a curb. Once the vehicle hit the curb, the vehicle flipped three times before the vehicle came to a halt. All air bags deployed during the accident. A police report was filed. The vehicle was initially towed to an independent mechanic but was later towed by her insurance for an investigation. All three passengers were taken to the hospital by a family member where they were treated for various injuries. One passenger sustained temporary ringing in both ears after the accident and the other passenger suffered temporary back pain. The contact sustained a head injury and a muscle strain to both their neck and back. The manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle was deemed a total loss. The failure mileage was unknown.

On February 14, 2023 while driving Steering wheel broke (steering component failed) and had to stop at nearest repair station and was told not safe to drive. It was making clicking noise when turning wheel and backing out of a parking space. Next day had it towed to Hyundai and said the steering component in dashboard fell and metal crash bar was completely broken. They suggested I go through my insurance company because they didn’t know how it happened and said it was from a road hazard or pot hole I hit, but that was not the case and the insurance investigator did not see any signs of a collision and said it was probably a faulty part. What concerns me most is that if I was driving at high speeds on a highway it could have been very dangerous to loose my steering and cause a bad accident. I’m not sure how long my steering wheel was broken because I did hear noises but just thought it was the steering adjustment bar wasn’t in the lock position. It’s very disturbing to think I could have gotten killed. Hyundai doesn’t seem to want to acknowledge that it could be a manufacturer default and a safety issue on there part because the car is out of warranty. They don’t what to tell me what caused the problem of the steering column to fall and the metal bar to break. I’m the original owner and the car is kept in excellent condition with no neglect for this safety issue to happen for no apparent reason is very concerning. The repair fix the problem will cost $5,000. I did research the issue and found that there was a safety recall for faulty steering columns on 2017 Santa fe models and could cause a bad accident. I would like to report this issue and find out if anyone else reported the issue with their 2013 model. I would like to know if the following recall on the 2017 Hyundai Santafe could be somehow connected to my steering column issue: Recall 173. NHTSA campaign number: 18V11800

The car started to make a clicking sound coming from the steering wheel whether straight or turning. The wheel was shaking and there was some wiggle with steering. I was hours from home and did not feel safe driving the vehicle. Left it at a non-Hyundai repair shop. Was told the next day it was an issue with the plastic coupler in the steering column and Hyundai had a recall on it. Drove it home and brought it to my local dealer where we have all our repairs done. Was told there's no recall. After reading the exact same complaint by so many people on here and other online places I was shocked there was no recall for this issue. Others have stated Hyundai did recalls on some of their other vehicles for just this part/problem.

August 2020 , dealership repairs under under warranty 'Steering coupler' . Wheeling when engine on making 'Clunky' sound, and vibrations . Hyundai has current Recalls on other makes and models of their line, but not 2013's , or my year AND model This is a Safety issue. Please advise Hyundai to extend and issue a Recall The dealerships wants hundreds of dollars to repair.

Hyundai is taking an extensive period of time to repair a current recall. Owners were notified to park vehicles away from other structures and other vehicles. Since I've had to park my vehicle outside of my garage, my vehicle has been broken into. I installed remote start because I physically was unable to scrape the ice off my windshield. The delays in this "fix' have cost me frustration and money. I've called Hyundai each month to check in and nobody has an answer. As of this moment, we have no notification of how soon a repair can be made. I'd like to sell or trade my vehicle in, but with an open recall without a current repair, the value is not the same.

Hyundai announced recall over 6 months ago and there is still no remedy. Manufacturer Recall Number 251 NHTSA Recall Number 23V651000 They advise to park outside. I've been parking outside for these 6 months, while I have a perfectly good garage available. Since I've been parking outside, I've been concerned over a number of issues: safety walking outside at night, possible theft, slipping on ice/snow (which I've done a couple of times). My windshield also got cracked. While I can't prove that happened while parked outside, I think that it was. This vehicle has had many recalls before, but nothing that ever took this long. Is there any way to push this along?

I turned on my car and we able to drive approximately 2-3 miles down the road when all of a sudden my ABS light, traction control light, and my hill start assist light lit up on my dashboard. Approximately a week later I was notified of the safety recall on my vehicles ABS module. The lights have remained illuminated since they initially came on.

The component is the differential. Yes it is available The differential is leaking oil from the coupling assembly and makes noise while driving like a skip and when you turn to the left and in reverse. Because it helps with the braking time and lessened the risk of things such as vehicle rolling over on curves. I've had my car in for this problem since Jan. 2023 with the dealership telling me and repairing everything but this problem. Took it to two other mechanics that both agree its the coupling . Call the dealership again because Hyundai states they must see the problem are they are 1-3 months out. I have the pictures from mechanic and their sister company did have a recall on the 2013-2020 Sorento that uses the coupling but never a recall on Hyundai. I received a new engine in 2022 and after this noise started, put my car in the shop from Jan2023-May2023 and they never found the problem but said it was the tie rods and a axle that was replaced and still did not rectify the problem. Car has been sitting .

MY VEHICLE WAS IN THE SHOP REPAIRING A BLOWN ENGINE, WHICH FELL UNDER RECALL 162. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN IN FOR REPAIR, THE ONLY INOPERABLE AND/OR PROBABLE ISSUE WAS THE ENGINE. WHILE BEING REPAIRED, THE DEALERSHIP STATED THAT RUST ON THE INPUT SPLINES BECAME LOOSE AND UPON RETURN TO ME, THE VEHICLE WOULD NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION. IF THE TRANSMISSION IS NOT REPLACED, THE VEHICLE WILL NO LONGER HAVE AWD. RESEARCH ON YOUR WEBSITE SHOWS THAT RECALLS 112 (RELATED TO POWER TRAIN | CAMPAIGN #13V355000) AND 102 (RELATED TO SPLINES | NHTSA #11V261000), AS WELL AS CAMPAIGN #947 (RELATED TO RUST) ARE ALL RELATED TO THIS ISSUE. I found a recall for ABS MODULE INSPECTION AND MULTI-FUSE INSTALLATION for my santa fe sport 2013 (RECALL CAMPAIGN 205) but my vin #[XXX] does not appear when enter into system to look for recalls. Hyundai Recall HY251, NHTSA 23V651000. The ABS Module is failing. This issue may cause the car to catch fire while driving or parked. I've taken the car to multiple dealers. The ABS light is on, the Traction Assist light is on, the Down Hill Assist light is on, and the Parking Brake light is on. The dealers are more than happy to provide standard maintenance services, but are evidently unable to get the part to fix this issue. One dealer told me they could replace the entire ABS Module, but the manufacture would not approve it. This car is my main form of transportation and is causing me enormous stress not knowing when or where my car is going to catch on fire, and if it'll end up causing damage to other people's property. Hyundai has had more than sufficient time to address this issue and to make the corrective parts available to dealers.

How long is deemed unacceptable for no fix provided? No warning lights were illuminated. The contact stated that several days later the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where the vehicle was diagnosed with a blown engine. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V651000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic); however, the contact had not yet received the recall notification. The dealer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that the failure was not related to the recall. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 141,884.

The contact owns a.2013 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V651000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic). The contact stated that while parked, he observed smoke emanating from the engine compartment. The contact opened the hood and observed flames coming from the center of the motor and extinguished the fire. The fire department was made. A police report was not filed. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the fire started due to fuel rail malfunctioned and melting the hard plastic manifold causing the fire, and the fuel rail and intake manifold needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 190,000.

While driving on the interstate the vehicle suddenly shuddered and immediately died, dash lights were still on but all power was cut off. Cars around me were swerving to avoid hitting me from behind as well as avoiding cars in the inside lane. Thankfully able to coast to the narrow edge of the road without a grave incident. Restarted the car with a terrible metallic screetching noise and limp along the side of the interstate to the nearest off ramp.

I had lightly let off my gas pedal since I was driving down a slight decline/hill. Upon reaching the bottom of the decline, I pressed the gas pedal to maintain my speed, when I heard a loud noise from my engine; all the lights on the dash lit up; and my car lost all power. These items happened simultaneously and it was very sudden and unexpected as there were no prior warnings, indications, noises, or lights. The steering wheel locked up and I was unable to control the direction of my car. The brakes locked up and were unresponsive despite depressing them with both feet. I had no control of my car and I was completely at the mercy of my car and the road. The electrical system also failed. When my vehicle came to rest, nothing in the car worked. If a child, another vehicle, or animal was stopped in front of me or had pulled out in front of me, my car would have ran right into them. If I was on the hill and this happened, my car could have verved into the ditch and I could have been ejected. My car was towed to a local auto repair shop. The repair shop owner told me that Hyundai/Kai had issued a recall and he felt my engine failed for the same reason. I had my car towed to my Hyundai dealership where it sat for 4 months before they were able to assess it. I bought this car brand new in 2013 and maintained it for 9 years without a prior incident, problem or concern. It was a great vehicle that I was planning on giving to my daughter. My neighbor bought a Santa Fe because I raved about mine all the time. The vehicle is available for inspection, along with the auto shop repair owner.

Dealership verified several months ago that vehicle engine is burning oil (was initially informed of this issue about 6 months prior from a quick oil change business). In spite of documented evidence of oil changes every 3,000--5,000 miles since purchasing the new vehicle, claim filed with Hyundai for a new engine was denied (engine is 1 year past warranty). On 11/11/23, engine catastrophically failed traveling 70 mph on the interstate (loud "bang" from engine compartment followed by inability to accelerate; created hazard due to density of traffic and vehicle location in the passing lane). Was able to get vehicle to shoulder without incident. Check engine light was blinking. Had vehicle towed to Hyundai of Cookeville, TN. Since then, have struggled to get dealership to determine precise cause of engine failure. (Engine is available for inspection upon request.)

The engine won’t start. The car just shut down. While drive there was a sluggish feel in the car engine. The battery in the car is good. There power everywhere in car except for the engine. The engine shutdown with no warning lights or signals at all. Had the car towed back to Family Hyundai Dealer in Tinley Park Illinois on Friday 9/19/22. Received no results as of yet from the service department. Still waiting on results of why the engine shutdown suddenly.

Doors unlock without warning while driving.

Hyundai has not yet come up with a remedy. There is conflicting information about whether car is drivable considering fire can occur while in operation. I have read some information to suggest it can be driven until ABS warning light comes on however that information is not included in recall notice. Would NHTSA be able to confirm we can drive the vehicle if ABS light is not on? Have contacted Hyundai and there is still no remedy. No offer of compensation, buy back or loaner. Note while we can park our vehicle outside, it is not at all reasonable to suggest it be parked away from buildings. That suggests we could be held liable if the car catches fire and nearby structures catch fire. Cars would have to be parked in a field or vacant lot somewhere far and away from any home or business, rendering the vehicle not usable. I noticed there was a recall issued in 2022 for THE SAME DEFECT but affecting a smaller number of vehicles. So this ABS electrical issue has been in effect in actuality, since 2022. How long does a manufacturer have to find the remedy and repair a vehicle once a recall is issued? I do not feel safe driving my vehicle nor having parked in front of my home and in my neighborhood. The local dealership and Hyundai customer service has told me it’s OK to drive the car but again, I don’t find that information anywhere in the notice. If that were the case, wouldn’t the notice say so? Oh - I was going to sell my car to replace it and no one wants to buy it in light of this recall. Help? Thank you!

Issue # 1 - Door open light flashing on instrumental panel. I checked out the door and it was closed tightly. It continues to flash today (09/13/2023). During the end of April 2023, I could not lock my doors and the interior dome light stayed on. I was not aware of this and it drained my battery a couple of times in which my vehicle would not start. I now keep my interior dome light in the "Off' position. Now, when I drive at night, it get in and out of a dark vehicle. This is a safety concern since I am a female and I care for my disabled mother. I also cannot keep my doors locked when I am driving due to this issue. For safety reasons, I prefer to drive with my doors locked and I am unable to due this. I took it to the dealer and they believe the door actuator is the root cause. They gave me an estimate of $850 for parts and labor. I declined the repair, I thought it is too costly. Issue # 2 - Air Conditioner stops blowing cold and starts blowing nothing but hot air. This started in July of 2022. The AC works intermittently. I believe the blower needs to be replaced.

The light will indicate that the driver door is opened when it is closed. Which is causing the alarm to go off randomly and it’s draining my battery completely. I just bought a new battery in June 2022 and when I went to start my car today it wouldn’t start. Something is not connected properly but I don’t know what it is.

THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH THE PASSENGER DOORS LOCKING AND UNLOCKING. THE DRIVER DOOR LOCKS WORK WITHOUT ISSUES. THIS HAPPENS WHEN USING THE KEY FOB AND THE LOCK/UNLOCK BUTTON INSIDE THE CAR.

my door lock actuator has gone out once again and it seems to be a common issue i believe it could potentially be a safety hazard if the actuator goes out and driver is unaware could potentially get drivers or other passengers stuck in vehicle.

Interior lights will not turn off when car is turned off and door is opened. Open door warning stays on dash while driving. Doors will not stay locked. Car does not make beep noise when locking with fob. Radio stays on when car is off and door has been opened and then closed.

The paint is peeling off, started a couple of years ago, but its getting worse and worse. I jsut read about this recall that was issued. Needed to know what can be done. The front is peeled, so i added a hood front end bra, and have peeling spots all around. I try to wash only with soft water so it will not peel as much. I added a picture of the front with the bra, but if needed i will send one without. This picture was sent to my insurance. This defect caused the paint to peel or bubble on the affected vehicles, leaving them with an unsightly appearance. Affected models and years include the Santa Fe Sport (2013-2016), Sonata (2015-2016), Tucson (2011-2016), Elantra GT (2013-2016), and Azera (2012-2016)."

In May 2020 the vehicle started experiencing an issue that would constantly put it in limp mode. Took it in at an automotive place and they replaced it with a brand new computer. A few days later, the issue happened again. Took it back. They could not determine the problem and said we should bring it to the local Hyundai dealership in Naples, FL. Hyundai dealership in Naples, FL swore up and down it was the brake pedal assembly. Trusted their judgment and replaced it. Not even a few days later, car goes back into limp mode. Take it back to the local Hyundai dealership. They swear up and down it is now the tracking device on the vehicle. So between the warranty company, the dealership we bought the car from and the local Hyundai dealership we get the tracking device reinstalled. We take the car not even a few days later car goes back into limp mode. We dealt with this issue since May 2020-September 2020 at the local Hyundai dealership. They finally disconnected the tracking device. Now mind you the limp mode issues with the vehicle only happen when it is raining. In our dry season we experience no issues. Fast forward to June 2021 limp mode issues have returned since we are now in our rainy season. Local Hyundai dealership swore up and down again it is the tracking device. I had advised them it is impossible since they unplugged it and this issue only happens in the rain. They still swore it was the tracking device. They finally got the vehicle really wet and they finally were able to see what we were talking about. So now they changed their professional opinion that it is the wiring harness. Apparently this vehicle has two different wiring harnesses. So they are suggesting we replace both, but they can't guarantee that will work. So it appears they really do not know what is wrong with the car. If it was truly wiring then why would it only malfunction in the rain and not when it is dry? How is rain getting getting under the hood and through the protective component

1) RADIO STOPPED WORKING ABOUT 1 YEAR AGO. 2) ABOUT 6 MONTHS AGO, THE DOOR AND TRUCK OPEN LIGHT ON THE DASH APPEARED AND NEVER WENT OFF. 3) ON 1/14/21, THE CAR STARTED MAKING A RATTLING SOUND, AND STOPPED ACCELARATING; AUTO SHOP DETERMINED THE ENGINE WAS RUINED AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. WITH THE 1ST 2 ISSUES, I WAS STILL ABLE TO USE THE VEHICLE. HOWEVER, NOW THAT THE ENGINE IS RUINED, I AM NO LONGER ABLE TO USE THE VEHICLE.

DRIVING CONDITIONS WERE CLEAR WEATHER AND DRY ROADS WITH HEAVY TRAFFIC. WHILE TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH WESTBOUND ON INTERSTATE 4, THE VEHICLE LOST ALL POWER AND ALL THE WARNING INDICATOR LIGHTS CAME ON. FORTUNATELY, WAS ABLE TO COAST ACROSS TRAFFIC TO THE EMERGENCY LANE. TRIED TO RESTART THE CAR AND ALL THE INDICATOR LIGHTS CAME ON BUT THE CAR DIDN'T START. EXITED THE VEHICLE AND WALKED TOWARDS THE FRONT TO SEE SMOKE, AT FIRST, THEN SAW FLAMES COMING FROM UNDER THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. TRIED TO DIAL 911, BUT HAD WEAK CELL SIGNAL. APPARENTLY 911 WAS NOTIFIED. HIGHWAY PATROL ARRIVED, THE FLAMES WERE SPREADING AND GETTING LARGER. BY THE TIME THE FIRE DEPARTMENT ARRIVED, THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALLY ENGULFED IN FLAMES, WHICH REACHED ALMOST 10 FEET HIGH. THE FIRE FIGHTERS WERE ABLE TO CONTAIN THE FIRE BEFORE IT REACHED THE FUEL TANK, BUT THE VEHICLE AND ITS CONTENTS WERE TOTALLY BURNED. THE VEHICLE WAS A SHELL OF METAL AND ASH WHEN IT WAS TOWED AWAY.

AND THE CAR NEEDS REPLACEMENT OF WHOLE FUEL SUPPLY SYSTEM FROM FUEL TANK TO FUEL PRESSURE PUMP. DURING THE 4 YEARS OF OCCUPATION OF THE CAR, I HAVE DRIVEN THE CAR IN VERY NORMAL AND REGULAR MANNER. AT EVERY 7~8,000 KM, FUEL FILTER WAS REPLACED WITH NEW ONE. THE ACCUMULATION OF THE METAL(ALUMNUM) PARTICLES SEEMED COME FROM THE DEFECTIVE PART DURING THE MANUFACTURING BY FACTORY. We brought our vehicle into the dealer for a recall for undercoating on [XXX]. The work was completed by Tarbox Hyundai in north kingstown ri. We noticed our car started drifting to the right and our tire was out of align. We brought the car to our local mechanic and were told that the entire under carriage is rotting away and needs to be replaced. I feel Hyundai should be responsible for this because they knew about it and didn't tell us. The engine on our 2013 Santa Fe Limited has seized. We have maintained this vehicle with regular oil changes, breaks, tires, and anything else our trusted mechanic has recommended. While driving, the car slowed down considerably and was not accelerating. No dashboard lights appeared. This was during evening rush hour and became very dangerous. I pulled over to the shoulder and called for help. Once the tow arrived, we started the car and the check engine light came on. I checked the oil, it looked good. Tow truck driver took it to the dealership. Dealership said the car had no oil and that the engine has seized. I saw that there was oil before the driver took the car. So, that's not possible. The dealership said they added oil and that we would need a new engine. After discussing with the dealership my very expensive option, I have been researching the recalls and problems others have been having with the exact same thing happening. If there was no oil, why wasn't the oil light coming on? Why am I not due for an oil change for 1000+ mile? Putting my family at risk in a well maintained car that should last 75k-100k more miles is a huge problem. I will continue to fight this until myself and others receive the proper care from Hyundai.

Our family 2013 Santa Fe was leaking fuel in June 2023. Hyundai of Chantilly failed to check on Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) that were related to our 2013 Santa Fe. TSBs are circulated to “General Manager, Service Manager, Parts Manager, Warranty Manager, Service Advisors, Technicians, Body Shop Manager, Fleet Repair”. Per Recall 180: Hyundai is conducting a safety recall in the United States to confirm the high pressure fuel pipe was properly connected by Hyundai dealers to the fuel pump outlet during prior engine replacement. What is the safety recall? Certain model year 2011-2018 Hyundai Sonata, model year 2013-2018 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport, and model year 2014-2015 and 2018 Tucson vehicles had engines replaced. In some cases, during engine replacements, the high pressure fuel pipe may have been damaged, misaligned, or improperly torqued during the engine replacement procedure, allowing fuel to leak. What will Hyundai do? Hyundai dealers will inspect the connections of the high pressure fuel pipe to the fuel pump outlet for fuel leaking. If leaking fuel is detected, the fuel pipe will be replaced and properly installed with a new one. This procedure will be performed at NO CHARGE. My daughter mentioned to Hyundai Service Advisor, that the engine had been replaced under the recall last Spring 2023. Why didn’t the Service Advisor or Service Technician check the TSB? That should have been the first thing to do, especially when fuel lines don’t go bad that quickly. The level of incompetence at Hyundai of Chantilly Service Department is staggering. I paid over $1300 at Hyundai of Chantilly, most of which is covered by a recall. Now, I’m in the process of requesting reimbursement from Hyundai Motor America, which could take 120 days to process/receive. Why should customers have to do research to find out whether their vehicle was impacted by a recall? Hyundai should be fined civil penalties for failures in fixing recall issues.

The problem related to the class action for the Theta II GSD engine happened to my engine (Rod Bearing Failure). This is causing the engine to knock. Will have to replace the entire engine with less than 100k on the vehicle. Ran the vehicle normally and then parked it. Once I got back in the vehicle, I tried to start it and it would not start. I brought it to the dealer, and they came back and said there is a Rod Bearing Failure causing the engine to knock.

2013 Hyundai Santa Fe GLS low beam very dim ( having to use High beams contentiously)dealership states can not find problem, checked wiring harness ohms out correctly(12 volts )have replaced bulbs many time manufactured recommended. have researched internet and Hyundai form many owners are having similar issues on other modals as well. This has become a serious safety issues as well as cost, There has been no response from Hyundai about this issues. Is there a corrective action for this problem?

2/10/20 MY RIGHT LOW BEAM HEADLIGHT KEEPS BLOWING OUT. WE HAVE REPLACED THE LIGHT 3 TIMES IN LESS THAN A WEEK. OUR MECHANIC SUGGESTED THAT I REPORT THIS PROBLEM TO THE NHTSA TO SEE IF THERE IS A RECALL ON THIS PROBLEM. MY LIGHT IS OUT AGAIN!!! THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY PROBLEM. CANNOT SEE THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE ROAD UNLESS I USE MY HIGH BEAMS.

THE STEERING WAS LIKE A VEHICLE WITH "JIMMY LEGS" LOOSE AND ALL OVER THE ROAD. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP TO GET CHECKED OUT. THEY CHECKED THE SUSPENSION AND TOLD ME THAT THE COMPONENTS WERE GOOD WITH NO DAMAGE OR WEAR INCLUDING THE STRUTS. I TOLD THEM OF HOW ROUGH THE RIDE IS DRIVING AT VARIABLE SPEEDS ON THE LOCAL ROADS. EVER SINCE, I HAVE HAD 5 ALIGNMENTS AND STILL HAVE THE SAME HANDLING AND STEERING PROBLEMS. I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO SEARS TO HAVE AN ALIGNMENT CHECKED AND WAS TOLD THE LEFT FRONT WAS OUT BY -0.07D. THE MECHANIC TOLD ME THAT I WAS THE 6TH PERSON WITH THE SAME MODEL VEHICLE TO COME IN THERE IN THE PAST TWO WEEKS WITH THE SAME PROBLEMS. HE STATED THAT THE REASON FOR THE ISSUES ARE COMING FROM THE ELECTRONIC STEERING MODULE. WHEN YOU ADJUST THE STEERING WHEEL TO ON OF THE THREE SETTINGS (NORMAL, COMFORT, SPORT), IT CAUSES THE FRONT ALIGNMENT OUT. THIS TO ME SOUNDS LIKE A DESIGN FLAW AND HYUNDAI DOES NOT WANT TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUE. I JUST GET TIRED EVERY TIME I TAKE IT TO THE HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP OF BEING TOLD THAT THERE IS NO PROBLEM, IT IS HOW IT IS SUPPOSE TO RIDE LIKE THAT DUE TO THAT IT IS NOT A CAR. I WAS AT HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP ON 06/FEB/18, AND THAT IS WHAT THEY TOLD ME BUT I HAD TO PAY ANOTHER $89.95 FOR AN ALIGNMENT AGAIN, LEFT FRONT WAS OUT (TOE -0.15D) RIGHT FRONT WAS OUT (TOE -0.18D). I WAS TOLD THAT THE STRUTS AND SUSPENSION WAS OK, BUT COULD BE THE TIRES. I HAVE 29,374 MILES ON IT AND I AM GETTING TIRED OF HAVING TO BRING IT IN TO HAVE THE SAME WORK DONE AND BEING TOLD THAT THERE IS NOTHING WRONG. When we received the notification about the Anti-Lock Brake System fuse recall, we called our nearest dealer (Larry H. Miller Hyundai) to make an appointment and found out we had to wait almost four weeks to be seen. When it finally was our appointment day, we brought the car in and we found out that they could only test to see if we needed the Anti-Lock Brake System fuse. We of course failed and were told that they ordered the part and would call when it was available within 2-3 days. Five days went by and we never heard back so we called them to find out what was happening with the part. The service agent let us know that since Hyundai only allocates five of these parts to them per day, they have to inform customers as they were seen by the dealership. Which was different from what we were told initially. We then asked, how long would we have to wait and they said at least three to four weeks before we were called that the part was available to us. We waited a month just for the appointment, now we have to wait another month just for the part and possibly another month for another appointment just to have the part put on our car. We always assumed when there is a recall, your car would be fixed right away. Never have we had to wait for a part especially when its for a recall. Its ridiculous that Hyundai only gives five parts for this recall, when it affects so many cars to each dealer.

I was driving when it stalled out while driving and people helped me push my car out of turning lane to safety. The hood engulfed in flames. It was out the blue I had just bought the car a few months earlier. I was notified later that there was a recall on the car that caused fires but was unaware at the time

I have a Hyundai 2013 Santa Fe Sport 2.0T. I parked the car in the middle of my cement driveway. I went into my home for a moment to get my Stanley water bottle. When I walked back to the car, the engine compartment was on fire. I had 2 fire extinguishers and attempted to put out the fire by to no avail. My daughter immediately called 911 to report the fire. The fire department came and it took about 8-10 fireman to put the fire under control. I have owned all types of cars for the past 40-years. I have never seen a car go up in flames and burn to the ground in about one minute. Had I parked my car in the garage my entire house would have burn down while potentially killing my entire family. I called my insurance company (Geico) to advise them of the fire and asked them to contact Hyundai about the matter. Geico said its not their responsibility. I'm having difficulty contacting Hyundai to report this serious fire before some other family gets killed. I never was notified about any type of dangerous recall with the entire car burning down. I will try to contact Hyundai again tomorrow morning (XXX). Please help me with this matter as Hyundai must be held accountable for this fire almost killing my entire family. The contact owned a 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe. The contact stated that while her husband was driving at an undisclosed speed, a gasoline and smoke odor was ventilating into the interior of the vehicle through the vents, after which the driver observed flames emanating from the engine compartment on the passenger side of the vehicle, prompting him to pull to the shoulder of the roadway. Upon exiting the vehicle, the vehicle became fully engulfed in flames. Local emergency services arrived and were able to extinguish the fire. The ABS warning light was illuminated. A fire report was filed. A police report was reported, and injuries were reported. The vehicle was towed to a tow yard and deemed a total loss by the contact's insurance provider. The contact stated that though medical treatment was not sought, the driver sustained minor injuries to his right arm, and a passenger sustained a quarter-sized burn to his right leg. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 138,000.

A mechanic at the service station checked the vehicle and found metal shavings in the oil filter and determined that the engine had seized. The contact had the vehicle towed to a dealer who diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. As the contact continued driving, he began to hear an abnormal knocking sound coming from the engine. The contact pulled over and discovered that there was no oil in the engine. The contact added oil to the engine however, the knocking sound persisted. The contact towed the vehicle to his home where his brother inspected the vehicle and diagnosed the vehicle with a defective timing chain. The contact then had the vehicle towed to a dealer where the vehicle was diagnosed with a defective rod bearing. The contact was then given an estimate for the replacement of the engine. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a complaint was filed. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 141,000.

I HAVE A 2013 HYUNDAI SANTA FE LIMITED. WE WERE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY 85 IN NORTH DAKOTA WHEN THE FORWARD SECTION OF THE PANORAMA ROOF SUDDENLY AND WITHOUT WARNING EXPLODED AND SHATTERED INTO THOUSANDS OF FRAGMENTS. IT SOUNDED LIKE A SHOTGUN BLAST INSIDE THE CAR. FORTUNATELY, THE SUNSHADE WAS CLOSED AT THE TIME SO MOST OF THE GLASS FRAGMENTS WERE CONTAINED. WHEN WE STOPPED AND EXAMINED THE ROOF, WE SAW A HOLE ABOUT 15-18 INCHES IN DIAMETER. WE WERE TRAVELING AT 65MPH AND THE TEMPERATURE WAS 65-70 DEGREES F. THE CAR HAD 61,000 MILES ON IT AT THE TIME. IT IS CURRENTLY AT THE HYUNDAI DEALER FOR REPAIRS. THE SERVICE REP LEFT ME WITH LITTLE CONFIDENCE THAT HYUNDAI WOULD COVER THE COST OF THE REPAIR.

MY WIFE WAS DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE AT ABOUT 70MPH ON WEDNESDAY 2/24/16 IN CHARLOTTE, NC WHEN ALL OF THE SUDDEN THE SUNROOF EXPLODED WITH OUR 3 YEAR OLD AND 2 MONTH OLD IN THE BACK SEAT. THE SHADE WAS BACK AND GLASS DROPPED DOWN ON ALL OF THEM. MY 3 YEAR OLD HAD SOME VERY SMALL CUTS ON HER FACE. THERE WERE NO VEHICLES OR BRIDGES NEAR THE VEHICLE WHEN THIS HAPPENED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY ADVISED THAT THEY WERE GOING TO PUT IT IN AS A WARRANTY CLAIM WITH HYUNDAI BECAUSE THEY HAD ANOTHER ONE, SAME YEAR MAKE AND MODEL, COME IN THE WEEK BEFORE WITH THE SAME THING. AFTER GOOGLING IT, I HAVE READ SEVERAL INCIDENTS WHERE THIS HAS TAKEN PLACE. I WOULD LIKE TO SEE A RECALL ON THIS DUE TO THE SAFETY CONCERNS THAT IT POSES. I HAVE CONTACTED HYUNDAI AND HAVE BEEN GETTING THE RUN AROUND ABOUT THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS. THE WIPER ON THE PASSENGER SIDE DOES NOT CLEAN THE WINDOW PROPERLY - THERE IS A PIE SHAPED AREA ON THE BOTTOM OF THE WIPER, ON THE PASSENGER SIDE ONLY, THAT DOES NOT HIT THE WINDOW. AFTER MANY DISCUSSIONS WITH HYUNDAI AND GOING TO 2 DIFFERENT DEALS, THEY HAVE SAID THAT IT IS A DEFECT AND THAT ALL OR MOST HYUNDAI'S HAVE THIS DEFECT. I FEEL THAT IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE SINCE WHEN IT IS RAINING HARD, THE WIPER SPLASHES BACK ONTO THE WINDOW DUE TO THE FACT THAT THE WIPER IS NOT HITTING THE ENTIRE WINDOW PROPERLY. THIS ISSUE SEEMS TO BE WELL DOCUMENTED BY OTHERS ON THE INTERNET. WHEN PUMPING GAS, THE FUEL TANK ACTS LIKE IT IS FULL CAUSING THE GAS PUMP TO SHUT OFF. HOWEVER, THE TANK IS ONLY ABOUT 3/4 FULL. IF YOU ARE PATIENT ENOUGH, YOU CAN EVENTUALLY FILL UP THE TANK BY TRICKLING IN GAS, WAITING A COUPLE OF SECONDS, TRICKLING IN SOME MORE GAS, ETC. THIS APPEARS TO BE A KNOWN PROBLEM BUT HUYNDAI SERVICE CENTERS FAIL TO RECOGNIZE THIS AS AN ISSUE. IT APPEARS THAT SOME INDIVIDUALS HAVE HAD THEIR TANKS REPLACE. 1 COMPLAINT INDICATES THAT THE SERVICE CENTER INDICATED THAT A PIECE CLOSE TO THE FILLER HOSE HAD "MELTED". THE VEHICLE HAS NEVER DISPLAYED CORRECT MPG. THE DIGITAL READ OUT THAT "TELLS" YOU YOUR AVERAGE MILEAGE IS ALWAYS 2 OR 3 MILES OFF THE ACTUAL MPG. I RESET ALL THE SETTINGS EVERY FUEL UP. IT 'TELLS" ME I'M AVERAGING 21 MPG, BUT WHEN I CHECK IT MULTIPLE TIMES IT'S ACTUALLY 18MPG. THE VEHICLE IS SUPPOSED TO GE 21/29 AND I NOW HAVE 15,000 MILES ON THE CAR AND I'VE NEVER GOTTEN MORE THAN 19 IN TOWN OR ABOUT 27 ON THE ROAD AND THOSE ARE FEW AND FAR BETWEEN. YET, THE GAGE IS ALWAYS INACCURATE BY 2 TO 3 MPG. I FEEL THAT IS VERY DECEIVING. IF YOU DIDN'T CHECK IT YOURSELF, YOU WOULD THINK IT'S GETTING THE GAS MILEAGE IT'S SUPPOSED TO, BUT THE READOUTS ARE WRONG. I DON'T KNOW IF IT'S DELIBERATE OR A CALIBRATION ISSUE. PURCHASED CAR 7/2013. BROUGHT CAR TO LESTER GLENN HYUNDAI AT TOMS RIVER NJ FOR SERVICE ON 3/5/2013. THEY HAD VEHICLE FOR 3 DAYS WHICH INCLUDED OTHER REPAIRS. IN THE PAST 3 MONTHS, THE DIGITAL READOUT THAT SHOWS REMAINING MILES TO FUEL CAPACITY IS NOT ACCURATE OR CLOSE TO IT IN COMPARISON TO OTHER FUEL GAUGE THAT SHOWS FUEL IN TANK. THE GAUGE READS ONLY 250 TO 270 MILES DISTANCE WHEN I REFUELED MY CAR TO THE BRIM. DEALER SAID IT SHOWS THIS READING BECAUSE OF MY DRIVING HABITS. I'M THE ONLY DRIVER AND TREAT THIS CARD WITH KID GLOVES AND DO NOT DRIVE FAST OR SUDDEN STOPS (64 AGE). IF YOU DIVIDE THE FUEL CAPACITY IN THE TANK 19 GALLONS BY 270 MILES GIVES YOU 14.2 MILES. WE PURCHASED THIS 2013 HYUNDAI SANTA FE SPORT IN OCTOBER 2012. IMMEDIATELY ON THE DRIVE HOME, I NOTICED THAT THE DRIVER'S SEAT FELT LIKE IT WAS LOOSE OR ROCKED. I WAS ABLE TO MITIGATE THE PROBLEM BY USING THE POWER ADJUSTMENT TO RAISE THE SEAT TO THE HIGHEST POSSIBLE POSITION. WHILE NOT A SOLUTION, IT MINIMIZED THE PROBLEM AND ALLOWED ME TO CONTINUE TO DRIVE THE CAR. AFTER PERUSING A NUMBER OF ONLINE HYUNDAI FORUMS, I DISCOVERED THAT A NUMBER OF 2013 SF OWNER'S WERE EXPERIENCING THE SAME ISSUE. I ALSO DISCOVERED THAT HYUNDAI IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM BY EITHER REPLACING THE SEAT/SEAT RAILS OR BY USING A SPECIALLY-DESIGNED TOOL TO CORRECT TOO MUCH CLEARANCE/PLAY IN THE SLIDING SEAT TRACKS. I BROUGHT THIS INFO TO THE ATTENTION OF MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP WHEN IT WAS RECENTLY TIME FOR THE FIRST SERVICE. Hello, I'm not sure if this is something that you would handle or not. My husband and I have a Hyundai Santa Fe (husband-2015, Mine - 2013). We both bought the vehicles used and haven't had any major problems until about a year ago when both of our vehicles started drinking motor oil like people drink water. We don't have any signs of a leak anywhere. We had taken it to the Hyundai Dealerships and other mechanics and both say that Hyundai has been known to have this problem. Many years ago, I had a Hyundai Sonata which I bought brand new around 2003 and had it for many years. I never had this problem. After doing my research, I have seen where other people have had this problem with their Hyundai vehicles. I emailed several people about our situation, one being [XXX] , and received a response from Hailey, Customer Service Specialist with Hyundai Motor America and her response was for us to have Oil Consumption Testing done. She said that it would be our responsibility to pay for the testing and any repairs that need to be done since we're past the warranty and the years of our vehicles. From what the dealership and other mechanics keep saying, I feel it should be a recall for this problem due to Hyundai being aware that this has been a problem with their vehicles for years. I've known people to have cars much older than ours that never had an oil consumption problem such as this. Also, from what I read, this Oil Consumption Testing is a process that is done in stages which can be costly. Plus this Oil Consumption problem can lead to our engine dying without us knowing when it will die. With this problem, we don't have any warning that our motor oil is low or empty for our oil light will either blink or don't come on at all. I have seen mine blink, but by then the oil was already gone. My husband's oil stick had burnt and he purchased another one from Hyundai. The new one is now burnt and mine is burnt as well. We pulled off the highway to get gas and noticed smoke coming from the hood. We immediately parked at the gas station and my husband, our dog and I got out of the car and within minutes the entire front of the car was in flames. Several passersby stopped and sprayed the fire with their fire extinguishers. We called 911 and the fire department quickly arrived and put out the fire, but the entire front of the car was destroyed. The front of the car melted along with the windshield from the intense heat. The police inspector came and inspected the car and took photos. The car was then towed and our insurance company took possession of the car. There were no warning lights or messages prior to the failure. The only thing we noticed was a slight hesitation in power as we climbed a hill several times in the half hour preceding the failure. My husband, my dog and I would have been in mortal danger from the fire if we had not stopped immediately and gotten out of the car. The safety of other people nearby had also been at risk if the fire department had not arrived so quickly to put out the fire as the smoke began as we were entering the gas station and parked about 50 feet from the gas pumps to escape the vehicle. We have no idea what caused the fire. The engine had been replaced by Hyundai due to a defect that had caused it to fail about 2 years prior to the current failure.

The contact owns a 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe. The contact stated while depressing the brake pedal, the pedal extended to the floorboard and the stopping distance was extended. The vehicle was taken to the local mechanic who flushed the brake lines and replaced the brake master cylinder, but the failure persisted. The vehicle was later taken to the local dealer, but no further information was available. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. This complaint relates to Recall Campaign 251 from Hyundai, specifically the ABS Control Module. I own an affected 2013 Hyundai Sante Fe Sport. I bought it used in October 2023, and it driven by my minor child. While the affected components have yet to cause a problem, the mere fact that this vehicle could start on fire concerns me. Moreover, Hyundai has the wherewithal to fix the problem, rather than simply replacing a fuse and hoping for the best. As a father, it is my privilege and responsibility to protect and provide for my family. In order for me to do this, I would like NHTSA to throw the full weight of their influence on Hyundai and insist that they fix this problem. The very least they could do is provide a suitable vehicle as a loaner until my vehicle is fixed. Better yet, they can buy this vehicle and I will use that money to buy the same, or nearly same, type of vehicle from them. That is a win-win situation in my opinion. I am a retired State Trooper and for over half of my career I conducted numerous Traffic Homicide Investigations and Accident Reconstructions. I lost count of how many civil trials I testified in. I was considered a subject matter expert in several areas, including vehicle equipment failure. This is a lawsuit waiting to happen. More importantly, if this issue is not fixed, people are going to die because of Hyundai's malfeasance. Thank you for your time. I am committed to following through on this and will be watching very closely how both Hyundai and NHSTA respond to this campaign.

HYUNDAI OF CHARLESTON LOCATED AT 8485 RIVERS AVE, NORTH CHARLESTON, SC 29406 WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 130,000.

I was driving the vehicle on the left lane of the freeway and the acceleration suddenly gave out. The car began to slow even when I pushed on the gas. Heat gage was fine and no lights went on. I quickly got over 4 lanes of traffic to the next exit and was able to pull over to the side of the road. White smoke began to billow out of the hood on the offramp and all the emergency light indicators came on at once. I turned the car off and the smoke turned black. I popped the hood and flames leapt out from under the hood. I jump out of the car and ran, leaving everything behind. I got safety away from the car and called 911. All of this happened within 2 minutes of losing acceleration. I typically have my two children in car seats in the car for school drop off and, [XXX] , they weren't with me. The fire overtook the front quickly and spread to the main cabin. By the time the fire department arrived (appx. 5-7 min) the car was completely engulfed. Nothing was salvaged. There is a fire report with the fire department. The police were not called. The car had gone through a full inspection and oil change one month prior and had no warning signs or issues. I lost a number of things in the car, including my purse, work items, kid's items, car seats, etc. Just after the incident, I developed a cough and severe headache that lasted two days. I also twisted my knee while running away, exacerbating an old injury. I am also dealing with acute mental health symptoms and am seeing a psychologist. ON SEPTEMBER 20TH 2018 AFTER HAVING THE CAR A WEEK, THE CAR MADE A NOISE WOULD NOT START ALL THE DASHBOARD LIGHTS WERE BLINKING ON AND OFF THEN NEVER CAME ON AGAIN. THE CAR WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR THEM TO SAY IT WAS A BATTERY, WHICH THEY NEVER GAVE A SERVICE RECEIPT FOR NO MATTER HOW MANY TIMES I ASKED. THEN AGAIN ON AUGUST 7 2019 MY ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND CAR STOP WHILE DRIVING ON THE EXPRESSWAY WITH MY KIDS IN THE CAR. THANKFULLY WE WERE ABLE TO GET OFF THE EXPRESSWAY WHICH WAS A VERY SCARY SITUATION. AFTER ABOUT 30 MIN THAT DID RESTART BUT WOULD NOT ACCELERATE OF 60 MPH. AS WE COASTED THE REMAINDER OF OUR TRIP. THEN AGAIN ON OCTOBER 7 THE LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN AFTER RECEIVING AN OIL CHANGE AND TUNE UP. THIS TIME SMOKING AND STALLING AND NEVER COMING BACK ON AGAIN. THE BRAKE WOULD BE PRESSED WHEN THE PUSH TO START BETTON NEVER WENT TO THE ON POSITION.

FIRST WE HEARD WHAT WE THOUGHT WAS MAKING A BELT LOOSE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD IN OUR LOCAL AREA OF DENVER, THEN SUDDENLY ACCELERATION WAS NOT HAPPENING. GIVING IT GAS AND NOTHING. MECHANIC FIXED ONE SENSOR AND MORE PROBLEMS AROSE. HE FELT IT SHOULD BE A WARRANTY ITEM BUT SURPRISINGLY ITS NOT. IT CONTINUED TO MOVE FORWARD AT NO MORE THAN 10-15MPH JERKING AND LUNGING UP A HILL, CAUSING A HAZARD FOR APPROACHING CARS. THE AWD LIGHT CAME ON ALONG WITH ANOTHER LIGHT PERTAINING TO THE DRIVETRAIN/AXLE. WE WERE ABLE TO CONTINUE A FEW HUNDRED YARDS UNTIL A SAFE SPOT TO PULL OVER WAS FOUND. THE ROADSIDE ASSIST TECH SUSPECTED THERE MAY BE WATER IN THE FUEL SYSTEM, HOWEVER WHEN LOADING THE CAR ONTO THE TRUCK, NOTICED THE JERKING MOTION AND INSISTED IT SHOULD BE BROUGHT IN FOR INSPECTION. IN OUR FIRST CONVERSATION WITH THE MECHANIC HE MENTIONED RECALLS ON THE VEHICLE. WE SAID THAT WE HAD JUST PURCHASED THE CAR AFTER LEASE, 2 MONTHS PRIOR, AND DURING THAT PROCESS WE ASKED ABOUT RECALLS AND WERE TOLD THERE WERE NONE.

My vehicle had been stalling on I assign for a couple of months until one day in June 2021 it wouldn’t start at all. I got a new battery installed and assumed that all was well. Weeks later, I was in route to visit family when my ABS, traction, and down hill break lights all came on. I pulled over and tried cutting my car off and on a few times to see if that would resolve the issue and it did not. My car also seemed to slow down a bit and struggled slightly accelerating up hills. In 2019 my turbo engine was replaced after my vehicle stopped accelerating while I was on the interstate. There is currently a recall on 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe’s that reads: “ Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2013-2015 Santa Fe Sport vehicles. Brake fluid may leak inside the Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) module, possibly resulting in an electrical short… If the ABS module short circuits, there is an increased risk of an engine compartment fire.“ unfortunately my VIN is not included in the recall and I fear my car may catch fire any day now as a result of this failure.

I was driving on a highway going 65mph when my engine suddenly, and without warning, failed. My foot was on the gas pedal when it suddenly went to the floor, but my car stopped accelerating. My check engine light began blinking as well. I was in the far left lane and, without the ability to accelerate, had to merge over through 3 lanes of highway traffic in order to safely pull my car over on the side of the highway. This put not only my own safety at risk, but also that of every car around me while I tried to maneuver my car safely to the side of the highway without the ability to accelerate. There were no signs or lights illuminated prior to the incident that would of given me any warning to the impending failure. My car was towed to the closest mechanic then towed to my local Hyundai dealership. Both the mechanic and the Hyundai service department found the engine knocking and determined it was a total engine failure and my engine needed to be replaced. I discovered my engine was affected by the Hyundai engine recall 162.

AFTER DRIVING CAR FOR OVER 1 1/2 HRS, LOSING ACCELERATION AFTER SLOWING DOWN TO PAY TOLLS. IS HAPPENING MORE FREQUENTLY. SAFETY HAZARD BECAUSE EVEN THOUGH I HAVE GAS PEDAL TO FLOOR WILL NOT GO PAST 50 MPH ON HIGHWAY THAT IS 65 MPH. HAS HAPPENED 3 TIMES AND IS HAPPENING MORE FREQUENTLY. TWO OTHER TIMES HAPPENED AFTER DRIVING 2 HOURS ON TURNPIKE. CAR LOST TURBO BOOST AND WOULDN'T GO VERY FAST.. NO LIGHTS ON DASH. GAS PEDAL TO FLOOR AND RPMS WERE READING A LOT HIGHER. TOOK TO DEALERSHIP WHO RAN DIAGNOSTIC. WANTED THEM TO CHECK THE TURBO ACTUATOR. WAS CHARGED $120.00 AND TOLD THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING.

Upon exiting a parking lot at low speeds, the driver’s seat belt disengaged from the buckle. Despite multiple attempts to fasten the seat belt, it would not stay buckled throughout the drive, which was at speeds 40mph and below. Warning chimes sounded each time it unbuckled. It seems like a mechanical failure because the seat belt would become unbuckled if just a little force was applied to pull on the seat belt such as when making a turn.

BACKSEAT PASSENGER SIDE SEATBELT WILL NOT PULL OUT FAR ENOUGH TO BUCKLE. TOOK TO HYUNDAI AND TOLD THAT THERE ARE TEETH BROKEN OFF IN THE ROLLER PART OF SEATBELT. IT SEEMS THAT THIS WOULD BE FAULTY PARTS FOR TEETH TO ACTUALLY BREAK OFF AND NOW KNOWING THIS, ARE ANY OF THE OTHER SEATBELTS AT RISK OF BEING FULLY SECURE FOR PROTECTION. WOULD LIKE INVESTIGATION AND WONDERING WHY IT WOULD NOT BE COVERED BY HYUNDAI. THEY JUST SHOWED HIM IN A HANDWRITTEN SCRAP OF PAPER AN ESTIMATE AND DISMISSED. I was driving down the highway when the car suddenly just jolted stalled and misfired. I put on my hazards and jerked to get a read since the engine light came on. After 4 diagnostic tests and 3 different mechanics the codes read misfire in cylinder 2. Spark plugs were installed new, but after further inspection and 3 pressure tests the problem was scoring to the cylinder wall, not the cylinder coil itself. The final test was by a Hyundai dealer, but he did not tear down the engine further to find exact cause. He initially suggested an oil change, but I have been getting oil changes every month before service is due as oil is burning off and not lubricating essential mechanical parts. I have records of monthly changes. I also had several issues with brake fluid leaks regardless of tube installation per another recall for ABS system. I visited dealer under the advise of Hyundai customer service telling me I was under an extended warranty up to 150,000. After visiting dealer I was told the warranty does not cover my power train issue but only pertaining to rods and bearings. However, according to best practice guide 162 and class action I am still eligible for free inspection as a returning customer which was denied. I had no notice or knowledge of a bad engine when purchasing vehicle. I was told of ABS system recall and a no cost inspection. The previous owner serviced the recall 162 so it’s showing as closed, but as a returning customer I believe it to still be active and deserves further review. A tow would be required to inspect the vehicle at any dealership or repair shop.

It all started on Thursday, February 16 when I went into my garage and noticed a strange chemical smell and my car battery was dead. My husband replaced the battery that night, but we noticed the break lights stayed on. When took it to a Firestone Department on Friday, February 17, they replaced the battery terminal and ran diagnostics. We finally called and got an answer on Monday, February 20. The mechanic said it was the ABS Control Module and wiring harness. We transported the car that Monday afternoon to the local Hyundai dealership, which we really didn’t want to deal with since we haven’t had nice experiences with them in the past. They never called us and when we finally got ahold of the service department on Wednesday, February 22, they stated that they believe that it is the ABS Control Module, but they are unable to fix it locally. We would have to send it to another Hyundai dealership which is about 100 miles away. After speaking to the Hyundai Corporate Office, they suggested with previous recalls to place an incident report. The recall for the ABS Systems for Hyundai came out on May 16, 2018 and the recall number 218. The recall includes cars with the cruise control systems.

On January 20, 2023 I was on my way home from work and was stopped at a traffic light. The light turned green. As I tried to accelerate forward the engine light started blinking and the vehicle moved slow and lost a lot of power and a knocking sound began. As I tried to accelerate more the knocking sound became louder. I found an engine issue after entering my vin# on the Hyundai site. It was found that for the 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport there was an engine issue. I have attached this issue pertaining to my vin#. I printed this information and took these to my nearest Hyundai dealer, who stated to me that these were not official recall papers and they can't use them. I am the 3rd owner of this vehicle so I never would have received an official recall paper. I proceeded to email consumer affairs at Hyundai and sent these same attachments showing the vehicle issue with my vin#. Hyundai has emailed me back stating and I quote "We have determined your vehicle is not currently affected by any campaigns." I do not see how they determined there isn't a campaign that affects my vehicle when I have proof on paper there is an issue with these engines. My vehicle is a 2013 and under 10 years old. I found a local independent auto garage to look at my Hyundai and they have stated I need a new engine. I am at this time stuck paying out of pocket for a new engine that has clearly an issue Hyundai has had with this particular engine. Thank you for you time. I SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT WITH FITZGERALD LAKEFOREST HYUNDAI IN GAITHERSBURG, MD ON 10/7/2013 FOR THE CAMPAIGN 112 RECALL, ALONG WITH AN OIL CHANGE AND TIRE ROTATION. WHEN I PICKED THE CAR UP, I WAS INFORMED THAT THE PART FOR THE RECALL HAD TO BE SPECIAL ORDERED AND THEY WOULD CALL WHEN THE PART CAME IN. A COUPLE OF WEEKS LATER, I RECEIVED A CALL FROM [XXX] IN THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT THAT THE PARTS WERE IN FOR THE RECALL AND FOR SOME SWITCHES THEY REPLACED IN MY CONSOLE UNDER A WARRANTY REPAIR. I TOOK THE CAR IN AGAIN ON 10/17/2013. THE DEALER TALKED ME INTO A LOANER CAR (AS I WAS ALREADY LATE FOR WORK AGAIN FOR THE SECOND TIME IN 2 WEEKS DUE TO THESE APPOINTMENTS). Engine has always burned oil and vehicle only has 72,000 miles on it.leaking black liquid/oil out exhaust pipe, blowing out Black clouds of smoke and have to keep adding oil. Whole rear end had to be replaced, timing chain and cover replaced, AC unit replaced, rear camera replaced, climate controls change settings by them selves, leaking gaskets, all this and more has been going on with this vehicle when it only had 35,000 Miles on it. Front suspension creaks for years. No way a vehicle should have all these issues with low mileage and has been very well cared for!

An unknown dealer was made aware of the issue but informed the contact's mother that the recall was not urgent and there was no fire risk. The unknown dealer-scheduled an upcoming appointment for the recall repair. The contact stated that the failure later occurred while her mother was inside the store. The vehicle caught fire while parked in the parking lot. The flames spread to a nearby pillar. The fire department arrived on the scene and extinguished the fire. There were no injuries sustained. A fire department report was filed; however, the contact didn't have any additional information. The vehicle was towed to the tow yard, where it was deemed totaled by the insurance company. The ABS sensor failed on my vehicle, causing it to no longer accelerate past 20 mph on the highway. This put my safety at risk, as well as my passengers and others on the road because it happened suddenly while I was on the highway. My car could no longer accelerate suddenly while all cars around me were traveling at high speeds. The ABS light came on my dash, as well as the traction control and incline warning. I can no longer drive my vehicle so it has not been inspected yet.

My wife and I are the owners of a 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport VIN [XXX] . In September of 2023 we received a recall notice on this vehicle - NHTSA RECALL NUMBER 23V-651; HYUNDAI RECALL NUMBER 251 dated September 22, 2023. Since receiving this notice I have checked numerous times with our local dealership and online with Hyundai to see if there is any progress on this recall. As of January 15, 2024 there is no change in the status of this recall. I am disappointed that no remedy is available. Beyond the safety issues, we have been parking our car outside as directed and as a result, our vehicle, which has always been garaged, is now subject to weather risks as well as the very real risk (in our area) of pests damaging the wiring and other parts. When the cruise control shuts down, the tachometer cuts out and the vehicle seems to go into limp mode. Brightening or dimming the headlights causes an intermittent bright flash to the interior lights. This could be potentially dangerous seeing as you have no acceleration, which could cause very extensive damage to person and property. The intermittent bright flash could be a result of an unregulated power surge, which could cause damage to person and property.

ABS system lights going off after recall Recall #205 being completed. My vehicle has only 27,000 miles on it and is in excellent condition. I took it in for the recall and have spent thousands of dollars at the dealership for regular maintenance over the past year. Two days after the recall being done, my ABS system lights went off. Rick Case Hyundai wants to charge another $l,200 for ABS sensor replacement. This is incredible since nothing was wrong until I took it in, as advised, for the recall on the ABS system. Now they say I need to keep the car outside in case of a fire and that the sensors aren't covered. This is an outrange and I get NO assistance since contacting Hyundai Customer Care and the case manager of my Case #l8756193 is an absolute joke and of no help whatsoever. The sensors should be replaced at NO Cost to me as it was a direct result of the recall visit.

Three safety issues: 1st Steering column coupler went bad at 95k miles causing steering wheel to shake. Cost $1700 to repair. I was at risk for steering to lock up, which would have caused an accident and injury to myself and others on roadway. 2nd Airbag indicator light is currently on. Diagnostic scan shows steering wheel airbag is faulty. If in an accident occurs and airbag does not deploy, could cause serious bodily injury. I do not have a copy of the diagnoses sheet, estimate to repair was $800. 3rd ABS sensor is currently faulty on rear tires causing dashboard indicator lights to constantly be illuminated. If rear brakes actually go bad and I'm not aware because the sensor is faulty, could cause bodily injury to myself and others on roadway if they malfunction or cease to function. Our Hyundai Sante Fe Sport smells like gasoline. The odor is very loud and nauseating. We parked it outdoors and the smell is still very loud and immediately noticeable from inside the vehicle and even walking by. We looked it up and saw an article in Consumer Reports (by [XXX] on May 18th describing this same thing. The article states the cars are being recalled however, we had our vehicle towed to Thornton Road Hyundai and were told there is no recall. They have diagnosed it as a leak in the top valve of the cover gasket and are charging $365 to repair it. Additional note - on July 8th, as we drove from Atlanta to Orlando, we witnessed a silver Hyundai Sante Fe Sport on fire (completely engulfed in flames) on the highway. WE TOWED VEHICLE TO DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD IT APPEARED TO BE A FAILED ALTERNATOR AND STARTER AND COMPROMISED BATTERY CABLE AND SENSOR AND WOULDN'T BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. WE HAD JUST HAD THE FUEL LINE SENSOR REPLACED UNDER RECALL AND NOW THIS. THIS IS AFTER THE TOTAL ENGINE FAILURE AND THAT LED TO THE ENGINE BEING REPLACED WITH WHAT WE TOLD WAS A FACTORY NEW ENGINE THAT FELL UNDER THE METAL FRAGMENTS IN OIL CHAMBER RECALL. I SUDDENLY HEARD SLIGHT TICKING SOUND WHEN I PRESSED ON THE GAS TO ACCELERATE QUICKLY GETTING ON TO THE HIGHWAY, I ALSO NOTICED THE RPMS WERE HIGH AND NOT MUCH POWER BEHIND ACCELERATING. DROVE ABOUT 10-15 MILES, TICKING GOT LOUDER WHEN ACCELERATING UNTIL THERE WAS A CONSTANT TICKING AND RATTLE IN THE FRONT END. PARKED THE CAR LET IT SIT FOR A NIGHT. WENT TO TAKE IT TO THE GARAGE, UPON STARTING THE CAR THERE WAS TICKING FROM UNDER THE HOOD, RATTLELING, AND SHAKING, TURNED THE VEHICLE RIGHT OFF. THIS IS THE SECOND TIRE THAT HAS BLOWN OUT ON THE OUTSIDE WALL OF THE TIRE SINCE I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE IN 2013. THE OTHER BLOW OUT WAS FROM A NAIL GOING THROUGH THE OUTSIDE WALL. THE PANORAMIC SUNROOF ON MY 2013 HYUNDAI SANTA FE EXPLODED, SENDING GLASS SHARDS EVERYWHERE. IT SOUNDED LIKE A SHOTGUN WENT OFF INSIDE THE VEHICLE. FORTUNATELY, THE INSIDE ROOF COVER WAS CLOSED, SO MOST OF THE SHATTERED GLASS WAS SENT ONTO THE ROADWAY, INSTEAD OF INSIDE THE VEHICLE. INTERNET INVESTIGATION REVEALED THAT THIS IS NOT AN ISOLATED INCIDENT. EXPLODING SUNROOFS ON HYUNDAI VEHICLES, INCLUDING THE SANTA FE AND VELOSTER, HAVE OCCURRED IN THE PAST. TO ME, THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. NOT ONLY BECAUSE GLASS COULD BE BLOWN WITH SIGNIFICANT FORCE THROUGHOUT THE VEHICLE, BUT BECAUSE IF IT HAPPENED AT HIGHWAY SPEED, IT MIGHT MAKE IT IMPOSSIBLE TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE DUE TO SHOCK OF THE EXPLOSION AND GLASS BEING SHOT EVERYWHERE. 2013 HYUNDAI SANTA FE 2.4 IS HAVING MAJOR STEERING ISSUES. AT SPEEDS ABOVE 45MPH THE SUV SWAYS ALL OVER THE ROAD AND IS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF. IF YOU HAVE ANY TYPE OF WIND THE SUV WILL CHANGE LANES AND IF YOU SLIGHTLY CORRECT IT OVER CORRECTS. I HAVE CHECKED THE TIRE PRESSURE AND THE TIRES SHOW NO SIGNS A WEAR. ALSO THE FUEL TANK WILL ONLY FILL 3/4 FULL THEN YOU HAVE TO WAIT AND EVER SO SLOWLY PUT THE REMAINING 1.5-2 GALLONS IN. THE MPG IS HORRIBLE ONLY GETTING 20MPG AT BEST ON THE HIGHWAY. BELOW IS THE REPORT SENT TO HYUNDAI ON JULY 15, 2013 RE: HYUNDAI SANTA FE SUV BEING PROBED FOR SUDDEN POWER LOSS -- REPORTED BY ASSOCIATED PRESS JULY 10, 2013. WE PURCHASED A SANTA FE SPORT AT THE END OF NOVEMBER 2012. ON JANUARY 2, 2013 WITH ONLY 1018 MILES ON VEHICLE, OUR SANTA FE EXPERIENCED ESSENTIALLY THE SAME PROBLEM AS DESCRIBED IN THE REFERENCED ARTICLE. A LOUD NOISE OCCURRED (AS IF RUNNING OVER AN OBSTACLE), THE ENGINE LOST ALL POWER AND DIED. UPON RESTART, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT MOVE EITHER FORWARD OR BACKWARD IN REVERSE. AFTER SETTING AWHILE, WE WERE ABLE TO VERY SLOWLY DRIVE THE CAR ABOUT 500 TO 1000 FEET TO THE DEALERSHIP. RUDDELL DEALERSHIP WAS UNABLE TO REPEAT THE EXPERIENCE. I NOW DO NOT TRUST THE VEHICLE AND WANT IT THOROUGHLY INSPECTED TO DETERMINE IF IT TOO HAS A CRACKED AXLE AS NOTED IN THE NEWSPAPER ARTICLE. WE HAVE A ROAD TRIP PLANNED IN EARLY AUGUST AND DO NOT WANT TO DRIVE THIS CAR UNTIL IT IS THOROUGHLY INSPECTED. I TOOK THE CAR TO RUDDELL AUTO ON JULY 10 AND SHOWED THEM THE ASSOCIATED PRESS ARTICLE BUT THEY DID NOT OFFER TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. RUDDELL SAID THEY WOULD HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL HYUNDAI ISSUED A CAMPAIGN OR RECALL BUT THAT IS NOT SATISFACTORY OR ACCEPTABLE. THE CAR NOW HAS ABOUT 7400 MILES ON IT. HAVE BEEN NOTICING OCCASIONALLY THE FRONT WINDSHIELD WIPERS DO NOT RETURN TO THEIR "PARKED" POSITION. THEY WILL OCCASIONALLY STAY TOO FAR UP BY 2 TO 3 INCHES. WHEN PARKED, THEY SHOULD BE BELOW THE HOOD LINE TUCKED NICELY TO THE WIPER COWL. I HAVE FOUND ON ABOUT 5 OCCASIONS SINCE OWNING THIS CAR THAT THE WIPERS ARE UP AS OPPOSED TO PARKED DOWN CORRECTLY. THE DRIVER SEAT ALSO ROCKED QUITE A BIT WHEN FIRST PURCHASED. TWO OF US DRIVE THE VEHICLE, NEITHER OF US ARE OVERWEIGHT AT ALL. WE GOT THE SEAT TRACK ASSEMBLY UNDER THE DRIVER'S SEAT REPLACED. THIS HELPED THE PROBLEM ALOT, BUT THE SEAT STILL WOBBLES ENOUGH TO BE ANNOYING. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOO HEARD THE NOISE. BUT TOLD ME THAT THERE IS NOTHING THAT CAN BE DONE ABOUT IT AND THAT THEY ARE WAITING FOR A TSB (TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN) IN ORDER TO CORRECT THIS ISSUE. THREE MONTHS AFTER I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE MY BACK PASSENGER REAR WINDOW BLEW OUT AT 60 MPH AND THEY WOULDN'T COVER IT UNDER WARRANTY SINCE THEY DIDN?T KNOW WHAT CAUSED THE WINDOW TO BLOW. I'VE NOW HAD THE CARE FOR 10 MONTHS NOW AND STILL THEY HAVE NOT FIXED THIS ISSUE. VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED AROUND JANUARY 30TH, 2013, AT THE TIME OF THE TEST DRIVE I NOTICED A LOT OF WIND NOISE IN THE CABIN AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT STAY IN A STRAIGHT LINE AT 55 MPH, IT WOULD SWAY LEFT TO RIGHT. TO THIS DATE THE VEHICLE STILL SWAYS LEFT TO RIGHT WHEN DRIVING OVER 55 MPH AND THE CABIN NOISE IS DRIVING ME CRAZY. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE THAT HYUNDAI WILL NEED TO FIX QUICKLY. I HAVE NOW MADE ANOTHER APPOINTMENT WITH THE SHOP BECAUSE THE DRIVER SEAT STARTED TO FEEL LOOSE WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES OR SLOWING DOWN. THIS VEHICLE HAS TOO MANY SAFETY ISSUES AND NOW WITH ONLY 1500 MILES ON THE VEHICLE I AM FORCED TO TAKE IT TO THE SHOP. VEHICLE DELIVERED AS NEW, IMMEDIATELY UPON ATTEMPTING TO PUMP AND FILL GASOLINE TANK, THE PUMP CLICKED AS FULL. HOWEVER, GASOLINE GAUGE ON DASH ONLY WOULD AND CONTINUES TO SHOW 3/4 FULL. THERE HAVE BEEN NUMEROUS ATTEMPTS AND REPLACEMENT EQUIPMENT TO ADDRESS AND ERADICATE THIS SITUATION AND NOTHING HAS CORRECTED THE SITUATION NOR DOES HYUNDAI HAVE ANY ANSWERS AVAILABLE TO CORRECT THIS SITUATION. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN MY FAVORITE HYUNDAI SERVICE FACILITY FOR MANY DAYS AND WHEN FINALLY RETURNED THE ONLY ANSWER I WAS GIVEN, WAS THAT THE VEHICLE IS AN EARLY PRODUCTION OF THE MODEL AND THEY HAVE HAD SOME OF SAME PROBLEM. IN ADDITION THE ELECTRONIC STEERING IS A GREAT DISAPPOINTMENT AS IT IS QUITE DIFFICULT TO KEEP THE VEHICLE ON A TRUE STRAIGHT PATHWAY NO MATTER WHAT THE COMPOSITION OF THE PAVEMENT. THERE WAS SOME SORT OF ALERT FROM THE FACTORY ON AN ADJUSTMENT HOWEVER AND WAS ADDRESSED BUT IS STILL TERRIBLE. THEN THERE'S AN ISSUE ON THE HITCH WHEREBY THEN TRAILER PREP WIRING WAS INCLUDED ON THE INVOICE, INSTALLED BY THE SELLING DEALER AND THE SERVICING DEALER FEELS IT NOT THERE DUTY/RESPONSIBILITY TO REPAIR IT. I HAVE BEEN A HYUNDAI CUSTOMER SINCE 2001 AS THIS IS A VERY GREAT DISAPPOINTMENT AND BESIDES SAFETY ISSUES. THESE ISSUES MUST BE CLEARED UP ASAP BY BOTH THE HYUNDAI MANUFACTURER AND STRAIGHTENED OUT WITH THEIR DEALERS. PLEASE ! I WOULD THINK THE MANUFACTURER ADMITTING THEY KNOW OF THE PROBLEM AND CANNOT SOLVE IT THEY WOULD REPLACE MY EXACT VEHICLE AS I PURCHASED IT EQUIPPED AND TAKE BACK THIS ONE.
