While driving at approximately 70MPH on the highway, my 2014 Hyundai Tucson Limited suddenly locked up with no warning lights, no noise and no prior symptoms. The engine completely seized, causing immediate loss of power. I was barely able to coast off the highway exit to a final stop on the feeder shoulder, in a desolate area. The vehicle has always been properly maintained and is in excellent condition. Upon research, I learned that Hyundai has known of internal engine defects caused by metallic debris left from manufacturing since 2010, which can cause bearing failure and engine seizure. My Tucson's failure matches the same pattern described in Hyundai's Theta II engine recall and warranty extension campaigns. This sudden failure created an extremely dangerous situation at highway speed and possibility of injury while being stranded on an open road. Many owners, myself included, were never properly notified of the risks. I am filing this report because this incident represents a serious safety defect and potential recurrence among similar vehicles that may not yet be covered by recall. I respectfully request that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration investigate this issue and ensure Hyundai expands its recall and warranty coverage to include affected 2014 Hyundai Tucson Limited vehicles exhibiting this defect that was well-known to the Hyundai Corporation. My daughter owns a 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe GLS, which is currently experiencing internal engine failure and abnormal engine noise. These issues directly align with Hyundai’s notification regarding the extended warranty coverage for vehicles equipped with the 3.3L Lambda II GDI engine, which may experience abnormal engine noise or damage. Hyundai has acknowledged these concerns and extended warranty protection for engine repairs or replacement. The Hyundai Holler dealership in winter park Florida. recently inspected the vehicle and reported a critical failure requiring immediate attention. The recommended service included: Timing job (all CVVTs, intake, camshaft, chains, guides, tensioners) Both valve cover gaskets and RTV replacement ( This is the internal parts of the engine) The estimated repair cost was $6,723.92. This recommendation reflects the exact type of engine-related failure covered under Hyundai’s extended warranty for this VIN. It is both unreasonable and disappointing that my daughter was presented with such a significant repair estimate for a condition Hyundai has already committed to covering. For context, my husband is a certified technician, and we have carefully reviewed the inspection details. The diagnosis provided by Holler Hyundais service department is consistent with the warranty-covered issue. Therefore, this repair should rightfully be processed under Hyundai’s extended warranty program.I must also share that my daughter a single disabled mother of three with limited resources and income. The dealership’s approach in presenting her with an astronomical repair bill—without recognizing the warranty coverage—causes unnecessary stress and financial hardship Mr Jesse Cappiello Service consultant. I was driving my daughters to school and the vehicle made a loud squeal and a subsequently a continuous clicking noise. I did not have any warning of the vehicle malfunctioning. There was no check engine light, no loss of power, or anything related to an impending failure. Upon this happening I was able to quickly get the vehicle moved as I was in the middle of the road with people around and lucking was not hit as I immediately stopped. I was close to home and was able to get the vehicle back to our home. Upon speaking with a Hyundai dealership they made me aware of a “silent recall” on many motors within the Hyundai failure due to internal failures. The vehicle was towed to the dealership and inspected and confirmed to have been linked to the engine failure. Hyundai is now stating that due to me being the second owner of the vehicle I am not apt to the extended warranty and there is no notice on any of the public facing knowledge to any of this information. I have gone through almost 2.5 months of back and forth with Hyundai case managers & the Attorney general.

While driving we notice an engine knock, particular when the car reached 2000 RPM or more. the car suddenly lost power and would not exceed 40 mph. We took the vehicle to a mechanic and were informed that it needed the engine replaced.

STEERING

The vehicle is making a loud clunking noise in the steering column when driving down the road. It is veering all over the road and when I hit a bump it’s very bad. It’s difficult to keep in the lane. I brought it to my mechanic who said it was most likely the electronic steering motor assembly. He said he would not drive it in its current condition. Hyundai themselves said that it would be dangerous to operate. On the complaint website I was looking on there was around 50 complaints that have been reported to the NHTSA already and the website said it would also be very dangerous to drive.

This model of Santa Fe has a defective steering column. The car rattles at the base of the steering column at the base of the steering wheel in the floor by your feet. When you go over 70 it rattles.

I drive a 2014 Sante Fe Sport. I noticed a clicking noise when turning the steering wheel. Initially, I heard it once in a while. I thought it was a one-time event. The clicking noise is more constant, when making a turn while the car is in motion. Sometimes the steering wheel feels 'loose' or uncontrollable. It seems to be an issue with the steering coupler. It seems as this is a safety concern for me and others while driving.

Steering has clicking noise when turning. I believe this is related to The MDPS (motor driven power steering) flexible rubber coupler. Similar issue exists for certain model of Hyundai Sonata and Elantra, which resulted in extended warranty. https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2017/MC-10110926-9999.pdf I believe the issue is the same part that Hyundai offered extended warranty on. I feel excessive vibration on the steering wheel during 70MPH speed on a highway and going over bumps. I feel unsafe driving my 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport with this issue. Please investigate. Steering column coupler is failing. If it breaks completely, I could lose control of steering and it could lead to a crash. It is available for inspection and has been inspected by Hyundai and confirmed that it is a coupler failing. The only known problem, that I didn't realize was a problem, was vibration upon braking (I thought that was the rotors needing attention) and vibration when hitting speeds between 65-75 (which I thought was an alignment issue). It was when I tool it in for an alignment that I was asked if there was any "play" or clicking in the steering column and there was, but it was so slight, I had not thought anything of it. I was told there was a recall on this part for two models in 2014, but my Santa Fe was not part of that. There was also a recall for this part on a Santa Fe 2016 forward; again, it excluded my vehicle. The job is expensive, for a $24.00 part replacement. I am told the entire steering column needs to be replaced at a cost of $2800.00 and that was from the Hyundai dealer.

My drivers side door will not close. Everytime I close it, it doesn’t latch and remains open. There is absolutely no way to close the door. This happen while I was driving my car, the door flew open and when I shut it, it wouldn’t latch.

The manufacturer has failed to remedy this defect in a reasonable time as it has been 4 months. Current solution is parking away from structures which forces my vehicle to be in the winter elements and thus damaging the vehicle.

The contact stated while driving 30 mph during rainy weather, the contact was attempting to get into the right-hand lane out of the way of a speeding vehicle approaching from the rear. The brake warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the brake pedal failed to respond when depressed. As a result, she crashed into the rear of a vehicle in front which caused her vehicle to come to a stop. The air bags did not deploy. A police report was filed. The contact was injured by the impact hitting her head on the steering wheel. The contact stated that she was driven to the hospital by her husband where her injuries to her forehead were treated. The contact mentioned still having side effects from the accident, she suffers from migraine headaches. The vehicle was drivable, but that the vehicle engine began to stall at stop signs or traffic lights. The vehicle has been at the contact's residence for 4 months since the accident and was not drivable. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 110,000.

We drove the vehicle to the mountains and home around three thousand miles into an oil change and began experiencing our transmission slipping and shifting rough. My wife drove the car to work after returning from the trip and on the way home, the check oil light came on. When I checked it, there was no oil showing on the dip stick and a small burnt but at the very end. It took 5 quarts of oil to get it back to full. After doing the oil consumption test through Hyundai, they are telling me the transmission is not covered. We are waiting for the response from Hyundai in an engine replacement but I’m very concerned about the drivability with the transmission issues.

The start of this journey to Wesley Chapel Hyundai service department were 4 or 5 lights on the dashboard. I can’t remember what day I called to make the appointment-probably a week before the appointment as followed. I made appointment to take my Sante Fe Sport to Wesley Chapel for Monday 02/17/2025. The vehicle was not driven after the multiple lights came on the dashboard. That was their earliest appointment for service. On [XXX] the Santa Fe Sport was towed to Westly Chapel service department because a neighbor came over to tell us that the car lights were blinking. The car was not on. When they lifted the hood on the vehicle there was smoke and the smell of something burnt. They disconnected the battery, and the vehicle was towed by AAA to the Westley Chapel Hyundai. We live in a mobile home and park the car close to the kitchen window. This scared me. What could have been was losing my home to fire. Thankfully it didn’t happen. My question is how does an ABS ASSY go bad under 30,000 miles on a vehicle? And we are being told that some pump went bad first that caused the ABS ASSY to go bad. So also, I question how does a pump go bad under 30,000 miles on a vehicle? Should this ABS ASSY failure been covered under a recall? I have attached the Hyundai of Wesley Chapel invoice. On [XXX}, the abs module failed. I did not know this until it was diagnosed by Pope Automotive, Lubbock, TX on 9/27/24. They discovered there was a recall 205 related to this issue. They started a case with Hyundai in regard to this: #[XXX]. I was in contact with my case worker who told me to have it towed to a Hyundai dealership. I did and it is currently at Gene Messer Hyundai, Lubbock, TX. Messer diagnosed the vehicle and stated the abs module is not related to the recall, because the recall work was done on 2/25/24 in Alabama. I contacted Messer Service Dept and spoke with Victoria. She stated that perhaps only the fuse was replaced, but not the abs. We need a copy of the invoice from Feb 2022, in order to know. I called Carvana, where I purchased the vehicle on [XXX] (only weeks from when the service was done). I was told it has been too long, they don't have the record. Serra Hyundai Trussville, AL said I'd have to get the information from Carvana, they cannot provide it to me. I called Carvana again today. I spoke with a different person and was told it would take 24-48 hours to send me the copy. On this invoice, we will find the abs module was replaced. There is no logical reason for it to go out in just 2.5 years. Perhaps it was a bad part. I feel it is unfair that I am being held responsible for it's replacement. If the abs module was not replaced as part of the 205 recall, I would expect it replaced. There were several model years included in the recall and hundreds of thousands of vehicles affected. There was also a class action lawsuit. There was a period of time where Hyundai parts were not quality or reliable. This has been a very stressful situation requiring many phone calls and research. It should have been a simple solution - replace the defective abs module at no cost to me. I have been without my vehicle now since [XXX]. It is the only transportation for a family of 4. I received a letter 6 months ago advising me to park my car outside and away from buildings because the car could catch fire even when not running. I've had to get permission from my HOA every month to park in the parking lot. I call the dealership every month to see if there has been a solution. Sometimes I have to drive my grandchildren and two of them are in car seats. Sometimes I have to drive my dogs and they are restrained in safety harnesses. I am afraid to drive with them because I'm not sure I'd be able to get them out in time if there was a fire. I called Hyundai customer service and they told me to ask my dealership for a loaner car. when I did, they said they would call me back. They did not. I have an upcoming road trip at the end of this month and I'm afraid I will have to cancel because of this safety issue. I feel that Hyundai is taking much too long to come up with a resolution and they are putting me and my family, my grandchildren, and my dogs at risk, not to mention the inconvenience and the worry.

Hyundai Campaign 251 ABS Module may leak hydraulic fluid, internally, and could cause a fire while driving, or parked. Hyundai has known about this problem since, at least, August 2023. The recall paperwork says this leak may cause a fire in the engine compartment while parked, or driving. What is taking Hyundai so long to correct this safety issue? I can't park my car in the garage because it may start a fire and cause damage to my home. I'm concerned about driving it because it may start burning while I'm on the highway. If the ABS stops working it may result in the brakes not working properly. Is there anything the NHTSA can do to encourage Hyundai to find a resolution.

I was driving down the interstate at the speed limit of 60mph, traffic slowed down then totally stopped. I was at a safe distance to stop, i began tapping on the brakes and i had no brakes. the brake pedal was hard no give in the pedal which caused me to rear end a stopped vehicle doing 60 MPH with me and my son in the vehicle. We went by ambulance to go to the emergency room. The car was declared a total loss by AAA. This happened on September 19th 2023. My safety and my son along with everyone driving on the interstate was at risk because of total brake failure. There were no warning lights present or malfunction indicator lights warnings at all. My son and I, are lucky to be alive.

There was a recall on my vehicle for the Knock Sensor. In 04/2019 this was fixed at the Stockton, Ca. Dealership. My car only has 69,654 miles on it. On 01/14/2023 my check engine light came on and my car started sputtering and cutting out. I took it back to the dealership first thing today, 01/16/2023. They said the Knock Sensor is out and will cost me $995.00 to fix. They said the part that was replaced 4/2019 only has a one year guarantee. I believe this is a poor quality part or vehicle defect.

I WENT TO GET GAS THIS MORNING AND COULD NOT OPEN THE FUEL DOOR TO GET TO MY GAS TANK. I EVEN USED THE EMERGENCY HATCH IN THE BACK OF MY VEHICLE BUT IT WOULD NOT RELEASE. APPARENTLY, THE PLUNGER BROKE ON THE FUEL DOOR AND GOT STUCK SHUT. I HAD TO GET A MECHANIC TO OPEN IT SO I COULD PUT GAS IN MY VEHICLE. CURRENTLY IT IS NOT LATCHED.

MY 2014 SANTA FE SPORT HAS A STRONG GASOLINE ODOR IN THE CABIN BUT IT CAN ALSO BE SMELLED OUTSIDE THE CAR. THE SMELL IS THE HIGHEST WHEN THE CAR IS TURNED OFF AND SITS FOR A SHORT TIME. THE ODOR IS SO STRONG THAT THE SERVICE TECH HAD TO GET OUT OF THE CAR SO THE ODOR COULD DISSIPATE. I HAVE HAD IT TO THE DEALER TWICE TO BE LOOKED AT AND THEY COULD NOT FIND AN ISSUE. THEY DEFINITELY COULD SMELL THE ODOR WHEN IT WAS DROPPED OFF. THEY DROVE IT FOR A SHORT DISTANCE BUT I DON'T BELIEVE IT WAS FAR ENOUGH FOR THE PROBLEM TO SHOW UP. THIS ONLY SEEMS TO HAPPEN WHEN THE TEMPERATURE IS ABOUT 90 DEGREES OR HOTTER. IT HAS NOT BEEN AN ISSUE SINCE THE TEMPERATURES HAVE COOLED DOWN AND IT WAS NOT AN ISSUE WHEN I BOUGHT IT DECEMBER 2017. IT WAS REAL BAD AT TIMES LAST SUMMER.

I have a 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe. I was notified the ABS module may leak hydraulic fluid on electronics that can cause a fire while driving or parked. This SAFETY issue was found in September 2023. After 7 months a remedy still has not been found. How long is a suitable amount of time to wait for a solution? How long should I need to wait for this to either burn down or get fixed? A remedy has been found for the Santa Fe Sport. Will this same fix, work for my Santa Fe? If it will I am willing to pay for it and wait for reimbursement. The would be better than wondering if my vehicle is going to catch fire while I'm driving down the highway. Any help you can give me will be appreciated. Drivers side rear passenger door lock became inoperable. Door will not lock or unlock with key fob or from the drivers door arm rest door lock/unlock switch. Door lock on the door panel does not move positions when fob or door lock switch is operated. Door lock within the door handle on the inside is in between the locked and unlocked position. If the silver lock on the door is either pushed or pulled, the door lock will function. Power lock does not work.

BATTERY ONLY FIVE MONTHS OLD AND SOMETHING IS BRINGING THE BATTERY DOWN. ALTERNATOR HAS BEEN CHECKED AS WELL AS SEVERAL OTHER THINGS INCLUDING THE BATTERY. NOTHING CAN BE FOUND THAT COULD BRINGING THE BATTERY DOWN. VEHICLE HADN'T BEEN STARTED IN 24 HOURS WHEN THIS HAPPENED TWICE

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS AT STAND STILL ON THE INSIDE OF THE GARAGE, WHEN SHE HEARD AN ABNORMAL NOISE AND SHE STARTED TO SMELL SMOKE ODOR. THE CONTACT STATED HER DAUGHTER NOTICED FIRE UNDER THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED SHE SAW AN UNKNOWN LEAK DRIPPING UNDER THE VEHICLE AND WAS EXPANDING THE FIRE. THE CONTACT STATED PART OF HER HOUSE ALSO CAUGHT FIRE. THE FIRE DEPART WAS ABLE TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE. A POLICE AND FIRE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT STATED NO ONE WAS INJURED OR SEEK MEDICAL ATTENTION, BUT DID FEEL SHORTNESS OF BREATH DUE TO THE SMOKE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DRIVABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED AS OF YET. A DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ATTEMPTED TO BE CONTACTED BUT HAD NOT BEEN ABLE TO SPEAK TO ANYONE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 93,000.

Locked the doors normally with the remote. Went into the doctor's office. Returned to the car the driver's door would not unlock. All other doors worked normally. Could not unlock the door with either handle, the switch or the remote. The Dealer says that the door latch mechanism failed in the locked position with the door closed. This would make it very difficult to exit the car in an accident, fire or submersion. The only exit is to crawl over the high mid console and exit through the right front passenger door, this is a very difficult maneuver.

I have a white 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport. About 5 years after having the car, my cars paint started to peel and now rust. I talked to the dealer and they said the warranty for paint on my car is up. Recently I have discovered new articles, multiple facebook groups and forums discussing the same issue. When I drive around, almost all white Hyundai's are having a similar issue. Reached out to Hyundai and the denied the issue is due to them, even though every body shop I have taken the car to ensures me it is a manufacture defect. There are also people out there who have been lucky enough to get Hyundai to get the car repainted even though they are out of warranty. The pictures provided due no show the most up to date peeling. There are small spots that are starting on the side of the car.

STARTING APPROXIMATELY TWO MONTHS AFTER PURCHASING MY VEHICLE, JUNE 2017, MY PAINT HAS BEEN STEADILY CHIPPING OFF OF MY CAR, MOSTLY IN THE FRONT AREA (HOOD, ROOF, SIDES OF HOOD). AS YOU WILL SEE IN THE VIDEO, TOUCHING THE PAINT MAKES IT CHIP OFF. IT STARTED OUT AS JUST A COUPLE OF CHIPS AND HAS STEADILY TURNED INTO LARGE PIECES OF MISSING PAINT ESPECIALLY AFTER TAKING ROAD TRIPS OF MORE THAN TWO HOURS, I NOTICE A BIG DIFFERENCE. I TRIED TO LOAD A VIDEO SO THAT YOU CAN SEE, ALL I HAVE TO DO IS TOUCH THE LARGE SPOT ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF MY HOOD AND THE PAINT LITERALLY FALLS OFF. *TR

DVR SHOWED THE TECHNICIAN RELEASED BUT DID NOT OPEN/CLOSE THE HOOD. SHOP ACCEPTED LIABILITY AND AUTO BODY SHOP IS REPLACING/PAINTING HOOD/PILLARS. INSPECTION OF THE SECONDARY HOOD LATCH FOUND THE RELEASE HANDLE AND LATCH TO BE SEIZED IN THE OPEN POSITION DUE TO CORROSION. THE RECALL "FIX" DID NOT FIX ANYTHING. Engine started to make a knocking noise right at 100k miles. We bought the car used with 78k miles on it and kept up with oil changes and tires. Once we noticed the noise we changed the oil again just to make sure everything was lubricated correctly. There were a lot of metal shavings in the oil and the noise just kept getting louder and louder so we stopped driving it and it has been sitting for about 9 months now and everyone we talk to says that the engine has blown. After looking into it, Hyundai has had many vehicles with this exact issue. This model and year needs to be covered under the engine recall that is for the Santa Fe sports and Sonatas.

The Turbo failed and is not functional. I took the car in and found out that it needed to be replaced. They stated they would replace it but it would take a while since the turbo is currently on back order. I called every dealer in town to find out that the all had cars needed this part and that it would be a while before they get the part. One dealership advice me that he had a car since January. I think an investigation in regards to this matter is warranted. We felt something weird when we took it for an oil change. Weeks later when we went over the 100,000 mile mark, the check engine light turned on. We took it in right away.

In relation to this incident, approximately 3,00 miles after an oil change, the engine oil drain plug fell out and caused all oil to leak and cause engine damage. Engine oil change was at approximately 125,000 miles. Drain plug fell out at approximately 128,000 miles. No warning lights or symptoms were present prior to vehicle shutting off and dying while driving. Vehicle was then towed to shop who previously did oil change. Shop confirmed drain plug was missing and oil level was empty. I am the manager of this shop submitting this on behalf of the customer with this vehicle. We are aware of the ongoing concerns in relation to case DP22-003 and would like to submit this information as further evidence for this case

I have been notified that I am in need of a new engine due to possible complete engine failure which is on the near horizon. I have the Lambda II V6 3.3L engine. It is knocking, making noises, hesitates to go, feels like it will stall out at all speeds, and is scaring me terribly. My certified local mechanic replaced a part for failed emissions, which cost almost $900. However the check engine light came back on. They stated I must go to Hyundai because they did not believe they could fix the car as it required a new engine. I took it to my Hyundai dealer, where my contact stated yes it should be covered as it was having the issues as have been identified with this engine. He later came back and stated his managers would not let him put through the claim, and said my estimate was now a whole new timing system at a cost of $4600. My car has less than 83,000 miles on it. My previous Hyundai is still running at 200,000 miles, so yes, I take good care of my vehicles. This is an early equipment failure on the part of Hyundai and Kia that they are now owning up to. I drive on busy 4 lane local roads, and I am afraid of this engine failure. Also, when I did take my Hyundai into the dealership, they did not have the ABS part needed for the recall. I was told it would be in within a couple of days. I have not been contacted back by them if it is in and to schedule me an appt. This is a huge failure in itself! I did make a claim to Hyundai Customer Care, that stated it was out of warranty. Today, I have my car at a 3rd automotive mechanic in the area to get a 3rd opinion. He has a minor timing issue code P0018 that emissions still kicked out once I finally got it passed. I am waiting to hear what he has to say regarding my engine with no beforehand knowledge of what I know so far. If my car catches fire or breaks down or seizes up on a busy road, I don't think that will go safely at all. I am very concerned for my safety and that of others.

Same issue with my Santa Fe Sport with the engine burning oil. It left me stranded on a back road up hill when it just slowly stopped accelerating and shut off. I had it towed to Hyundai dealership who wanted me to purchase a brand new engine. After talking to a friend who is a mechanic he told me about the lawsuit going on. I confronted Hyundai with this new information I had gotten. I was able to get the engine replace but I’m appalled at Hyundais sketchy way of trying to bypass this. Had not for my friend told me then I would have paid for a new engine! Dealership kept my vehicle for 4 months because they were out of stock in engines due to the amount of vehicles having the same issue! Wow now the truth unfolds. Shortly after getting the car back the check engine light came on. When reversing the vehicle would buck and seem like it wanted to stall out. Autozone hooked up computer and said torque converter code showed. Autozone said if I just had my engine replaced then the dealership didn’t install it right or broke something during the process. I took it back to Hyundai and they verified converter code and said I needed a new transmission! Prior to the engine issue this car NEVER had problems. The second the engine was replaced everything went wrong! Seems very sketchy. The car started losing power when driving. I was on the highway and it would not accelerate. I was terrified I was going to get hit by all the other vehicles. Cars were dodging me and slamming on breaks and honking horns. I managed to make my way to pull over. Got the transmission replaced like I was told and the converter replaced. Car is still doing the same thing. Hyundai said I needed converter replaced AGAIN two months after they replaced it. Now everyone at Hyundai was fired… wonder why. Now I took it back to Hyundai again, car has not been driven in over a year. Now they are saying no issue with converter it’s the transmission! Hyundai needs to be out of business. They put us in danger!

Hyuandi recalled Santa Fe 2.4L engines. Ignoring and refuses to acknowledge many 3.3L Santa Fe’s SAME engine failures as they have had lawsuits over. I’m reaching out AGAIN demanding investigations EVERY FAILED ENGINE REPORTED. Denying accountability For the safety of their customers! My engine blew driving onI-40 interstate. I was accelerating to pass a vehicle. During my attempted acceleration I lost all petal pressure and my foot went to the floor. The RPM’s spiked up 5-6k. the oil pressure escalated rapidly. My car seemingly stalled out. Losing ability to keep moving. What looked like steam coming out of the passenger side front wheel well. Assumed that was from a liquid hitting the hot brakes. After sitting for a few moments, I attempted to restart the vehicle. turning it off & it never came back on. Following failure to start back up. I checked the oil level. ALARMINGLY- it was completely dry. While inspecting the car on the side of the busiest highway! there was no large apparent leaks,where the oil would’ve run out. This is a direct display of the motor burning the oil over time. The Hyuandi dealership is responsible for the maintenance and my cars inability to run. As the oil’s mysterious disappearance is from a malfunction in the engine. the REASON my car ran out of oil. MONTHS prior to its mysterious disappearance the oil was changed & NO concerns of malfunction or failure to run, we’re reported after my maintenance by the SAME dealership who blames me. Denying the truth. Blaming me for “lack of servicing” the vehicle they serviced AND WAS NOT DUE OF ONE. Hyuandi’s ignoring their engine problem. Putting their customers and many other drivers lives AT RISK. and I’m highly disappointed in the service from both hyuandi, all dealerships, and the refusal to acknowledge THEIR responsibility for ME NO LONGER HAVING A RUNNING VEHICLE. Not offering a replacement engine. Expecting ME to drop $6,000.00 which is half the price of my cars value. I WANT ANSWERS!!!!!!!

AUTOMATIC GEAR NOT SHIFTING PROPERLY WHEN ACCELERATING AFTER COMING TO A COMPLETE LOSS STOP. I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM LAST YEAR 2019 IN THE MONTH OF FEBRUARY. I TOOK IT TO THE HYUNDAI ON JEFFERSON AVE ( NEWPORT NEWS / VIRGINIA). THEY FOUND THAT IT WAS AN ENGINE DEFAULT FOR MOST OF THE 2014 MODEL. THE ENGINE WAS REPLACED AND NOT EVEN A YEAR I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AGAIN.

The low beams on the 2014 and many other year Hyundai Sant fe models do not work properly. While you are driving at night the low beams do not light up enough or shine bright enough on the roadway so you can see and drive safely ... I even installed brand new bulbs , and nothing changed as far as the brightness . The headlight housings are clear and do not have any type of damage that would prevent the bulbs from providing plenty of light on the roads . This is very dangerous for anyone trying to drive these vehicles on any kind of roads at night time .

The low-beam headlights are terrible, almost useless. I replaced both low-beam bulbs with high-quality bulbs and it did not help, at least not noticeably. The high beams work fine. The low beams are so bad that it is actually hard to see the road right in front of the car at night and the glare from oncoming headlights renders the low beams practically useless. This results with us doing most of our nighttime driving with the high beams on, even in traffic. We can't see the road without doing that.

The forward facing lights on my 2014 Santa Fe are so dim, I have to drive with the bright lights on just to be able to see at night. I’ve replaced the bulbs twice and they are still dim. Fog lights work, brights works, it’s just the regular night vision lights. I have resort to go slower than normal speed when driving at night because I can’t see. Thank God for street lights and road lamps. Hyundai try and resolve this issue. Thanks

The drivers side low beam headlight did not come on....Replaced the light bulb and it worked, so reinstalled the light assy into its housing,,checked it and it did work.... 5 hours later as i was leaving home the drivers side low beam was not lite again.....The next day, replaced the bulb with a new one thinking I got a bad bulb....Same thing happened...I have a lite headlight on the passenger side, high beams work, turn signals work, fog lamps work..So it is not a fuse or a relay. Googled 2014 Hyundai santa fe low beam headlight and found this is a common, constant, and unresolved issue..Called my Hyundai dealer, earliest he can look at the car is weeks away. so the safety issue is how do I drive at night ? Hyundai must be aware of this issue, but there is not any recall I can find..I know I am using a correct replacement bulb, and they cost $18.00 each......Thank you

For months there was a knocking/rattling sound coming from under my hood… I never got my oil changed at Hyundai. I always went to 10 minute express for my oil changes. The one time i do decide to go to Hyundai for an oil change/ inspection my car engine seizes 2 months later. Found out it seized due to no oil, there was no low oil pressure light on no warning light nothing. Hyundai doesn’t and won’t fix the issue. Mind you I’ve been keeping my car maintenance every 3 months when it comes to an oil change. The day i decide to use Hyundai is the reason why my car stopped working. After taking the dead car to Hyundai they said after 200,000 miles the engine drinks a lot of oil. Again nobody told me this til after. I’m very upset with Hyundai cause they don’t see their fault in this. Since I’m not the original owner it’s nothing they can do. I got extended warranty on it and it was a waste of money

I purchased this 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe 3.3L V6 with what I think must be the Lambda II engine in 2020 from a Honda Dealership in Louisville Kentucky. Upon purchase, I was not made aware of any recalls, Manufacturer Communications, Investigations, or class action law suits with this model. On May 27, 2021 I took the car in for an oil change and again was not made aware of the above issues. Not enjoying my service experience at that dealership, I took my car in to a Hyundai dealership for an oil change on June 15, 2022 it was reported the engine only had 1 quart of oil. Upon leaving, once again, I was not informed of the above issues with Hyundai, specifically the engine and engine cooling in various models and engines. On October 3, 2022 I took my car into a Good Year for an oil change and was told the car had zero oil. Ironically, Good Year is who told me about the class action law suit regarding the engine and oil issues. They told me to keep checking the oil and adding oil as needed to avoid a problem. 4 days later on October 7, 2022 I was driving on a highway when all of a sudden and without warning my engine blew, my accelerator deactivated and white smoke billowed from under my hood and I could not see. Thankfully I was able to quickly pull over to the side of the highway. I feared the engine was on fire but the smoke eventually cleared. I took pictures underneath the engine (attached) and of the large pool of oil that spilled from the car (attached). The car was towed to the nearest Hyundai dealership where they told me the car experienced a catastrophic engine failure and I would need a new engine. I do not have warranty and it appears my model and year are not included in any of the recalls or investigations. However, my car did experience the exact failure and I want my year, model and engine to be included in the investigation, recalls and remediation. I would appreciate a response with advice for next steps. Thank you!

On October 20, 2022 my husband was driving the vehicle traveling around 40mph. He said he noticed that the engine light went on and then it sounded different and the vehicle struggled to accelerate. He quickly pulled into the first parking lot that was available and he parked, turned off the car and went to get out and within seconds, the entire vehicle was engulfed in flames. Had he waited and kept driving, he probably wouldn't be here today. Thank goodness my baby wasn't in the car. I can't imagine ripping a child out of her carseat while the car is on fire!

While driving on a highway at around 40-45 mph my car stalled and came to a stop without warning. No dash lights lit up, no noises, no smoke. Car will not start back up. Mechanic said that it was not spark plugs or lack of maintenance. It seems like there is currently a recall for 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe sports but my vin number doesn’t fall in the recall batch.

I was driving my 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe GLS (Lambda II, V6 3.3L, 104k miles) late at night with my wife, daughter (age 2), and son (age 6 months). No notification lights alerted me to any problems. We missed our turn on the highway and had to drive through a neighborhood with a high crime volume. We stopped at a red light and the engine seized. When the light changed, I tried to start the car, but the engine wouldn't budge. We were stranded in the dark in a dangerous area. I said to my wife, "This is one of the worst places and times for a car to go kaput." Two good samaritans with car knowledge stopped to help. First, they tried charging the battery. No luck. Then they checked the oil. To our surprise, the oil tank was nearly empty (again, no notification lights alerted me, and we never saw leakage). We tried filling it with oil, hoping it might solve the engine seizure. No luck. I had it towed to my family's mechanic. Once he checked it, he immediately realized it needed replacement (once it turned on, it was making knocking sounds). He said a new engine would cost $10k—more than half of the car's value at the time of purchase. I called Hyundai corporate, and they said to bring it to my local dealer to get examined. They checked it and chose not to repair, giving a pretty nondescript reason for denial. They wouldn't give many details; they just said the motor suffered a mechanical failure, showed sludge, and needed to be replaced. They quoted me $9k for a USED engine. Later I learned that countless others have experienced the same problems with this vehicle. I'm preparing paperwork to seek help from higher-level Hyundai mechanics. I will update NHTSA if their response is helpful or not. I believe Hyundai and Kia are in deep water with many GDI engines from the last decade. Countless others have reported similar engine failures; a whole Facebook group documents it (FB search "Engine Failure- Kia/Hyundai"). Here's praying NHTSA swoops in and enforces a recall.

11/21/2020 AROUND 12 PM WE WERE PULLING OUT ON TO THE HIGHWAY IN HEAVY SATURDAY TRAFFIC IN BETWEEN ROSWELL AND NORCROSS. AS WE WERE ACCELERATING TO GET ONTO THE ROAD THE ENGINE SEIZED AND WE COULDN'T GET THE CAR TO RESPOND. THE PEDAL WAS BEING PUSHED TO THE FLOOR AND THE CAR WOULDN'T RESPOND. THERE WERE NO DASHBOARD WARNING LIGHTS OR ANY LOUD ENGINE NOISES TO SAY THERE WAS AN ISSUE. NO SMOKE OR STEAM. WE WERE ABLE TO DIRECT THE CAR ONTO A SIDE STREET BUT THE CAR STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SIDE STREET. THE CAR ELECTRONICS STARTED GOING CRAZY, THE NAVIGATION SCREEN AND INTERIOR LIGHTS KEPT TURNING THEMSELVES ON AND OFF LIKE IT WAS A COMPUTER REBOOTING. WE SMELLED SOMETHING BURNING SO I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND WE GOT OUT OF THE CAR.. I LET THE CAR REST FOR A FEW MINUTES AND TRIED TO TURN IT BACK ON SO WE COULD GET IT IN TO A SAFER POSITION AND GET HELP BUT THE CAR WOULDN'T RESTART. WE EVEN TRIED USING THE BATTERY JUMPER BOX TO TRY TO GET IT RESTARTED BUT IT WOULDN'T RESPOND. HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. THIS CAR HAS A THETA GDI ENGINE THAT IS CURRENTLY PART OF A RECALL BUT WHEN I LOOK UP MY VIN THE RECALL DOESN'T SHOW UP.

On [XXX] I was driving down [XXX] doing 80mph with my family in the car, including my 7month old son. As I was going down the interstate, the vehicle malfunctioned and seized up. I had to manually push to get the vehicle off the interstate to avoid getting hit. The vehicle lights all flashed on and cut off. Vehicle slowed down while driving on interstate and lost the ability to accelerate. A noise was made (may have been considered knocking). Once parked on the side of the highway, nothing happened when START/STOP button was pressed except random lights across dash (NO WARNING LIGHTS). Vehicle did not appear to be ON. Vehicle had to be towed to local Hyundai dealership. Dealership replaced the starter, performed an engine diagnostics, then parked vehicle on lot. The vehicle caught fire on 6/20/2022 after service tech exited it; considered a total loss. The vehicle was inspected by Hyundai Dealership representative, owner's insurance company, and vendor for Hyundai Motor America. HMA ruled incident as No Root Cause for engine seizing: no fault of workmanship nor manufacturer. In addition, in January 2022, this vehicle went into LIMS mode, no active warning lights were observed, and the same dealership replaced Knock Sensor. The vehicle passed engine diagnostics test.

VEHICLE VERY QUICKLY LOST ALL POWER INCLUDING POWER STEERING AND BRAKES, BRAKE/HAZARD/INDICATOR LIGHTS, AND IGNITION WHILE TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY SPEED IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. EXTREMELY HIGH SEVERITY POTENTIAL HARM FROM THIS FAILURE MODE, WHICH WAS THE SUBJECT OF PREVIOUS SERVICE CAMPAIGNS FOR OLDER HYUNDAI VERA CRUZ AND SANTA FE WITH SAME 3.3L V6 ENGINE PLATFORM. UNACCEPTABLE TO HAVE OCCURRENCE OF THIS KNOWN DESIGN ISSUE WITH LATER MODEL PRODUCTION.

OUR VEHICLE HAD THE TURBO FAIL . AFTER REPLACING THE TURBO, THE ENGINE DIED UPON TEST DRIVE. THEY REPLACED THE ENGINE AND GAVE US THE VEHICLE BACK. THE NEXT DAY IT WOULD NOT CRANK. DEALERSHIP JUMPED THE VEHICLE OFF. THE NEXT DAY IT WOULD NOT START AGAIN . THIS TIME THEY HAD TO TOW IT . IT HAS BEEN IN AND OUT OF THE DEALERSHIP FOR 4 MONTHS AND TOWED 3 TIMES . EACH TIME THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT CRANK WITH 48HRS OF GETTING THE CAR RETURNED TO US. THEY BLAMES SECURITY SYSTEM, KEY FOB, BRAKE SWITCH , GROUNDING, AND NOW THE STARTER. EACH TIME THEY STATED IT WAS FIXED AND THEN WE HAD THE ISSUE HAPPEN AGAIN . I FILED A SAFETY CONCERN WITH HYUNDAI BUT THEY REFUSED TO ADDRESS OUR CONCERN. THEY SAID THEY WERE TOLD BY PALMER'S HYUNDAI THAT THE VEHICLE WAS FINE. I EXPLAINED I WAS CONCERNED OF MY FAMILIES SAFETY OF THE VEHICLE DIED WHILE TURNING OR ON THE INTERSTATE. THERE ARE MULTIPLE REPORTS OF THIS ONLINE FOR THE VEHICLE. THEY STATED I CAN TAKE IT UP WITH THE DEALERSHIP BUT THEY COULDN'T HELP WITH ANYTHING. THEY SAID IF IT FAILED IN TRAFFIC AND SOMEONE WAS HURT , THEN I COULD CALL BACK AND THEY WOULD ADDRESS IT THEN . I OWN 4 HYUNDAI VEHICLES AND HAVE HAD ANOTHER PREVIOUSLY . WHEN THE CRUISE CONTROL IS ACTIVE, PUSHING THE BUTTON TO DECELERATE OCCASIONALLY CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO DOWNSHIFT AND BEGIN ACCELERATING. MANUALLY DISENGAGING THE CRUISE CONTROL OR PUSHING THE BRAKE PEDAL HALTS THE ACCELERATION. THIS APPEARS TO BE A DANGEROUS FAILURE MODE. THE DEALERSHIP THAT EXAMINED THE VEHICLE SAID THIS IS DUE TO A DEFECTIVE CLOCK SPRING IN THE STEERING COLUMN THAT CAN CAUSE BUTTONS TO PERFORM THE OPPOSITE TASK OR FAIL TO WORK AT ALL. THE DEALER NOTED THAT THIS IS NOT AN UNCOMMON ISSUE. THE VEHICLE HAS APPROXIMATELY 50,000 MILES AND THE REPAIR IS NOT EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE AT $485. IT SEEMS THAT IT WOULD BE MUCH SAFER IF THE FAILURE MODE WAS TO SIMPLY NOT ALLOW THE CRUISE CONTROL TO ENGAGE WHEN A FAULT IS DETECTED.

WHILE DRIVING UP A STEEP WINDING ROAD MY CAR BEGAN MAKING A FLUTTERING NOISE LIKE A PADDLEBOAT. THERE WAS A LOT OF PLAY IN THE STEERING WHEEL WITH A SMALL SQUEAK TO ONLY THE LEFT, IN THE PLAY OF THE STEERING WHEEL. THE DEALERSHIP HAS LET ME KNOW I NEED TO REPLACE THE STEERING SHAFT. WHAT ACTUALLY MAKES THE STEERING SHAFT GO OUT, ISN'T THAT A COMPONENT THAT HAS A LONG LIFE? THE NOISE WAS MORE INTENSE DRIVING UP THE ROAD THAN GOING DOWN. SF REQUIRED CONTINUOUS CORRECTION AT A VARYING DEGREE. IT IS NOT ONLY THAT THE VEHICLE WONDERS, BUT IT DOES SO MILDLY AND AGGRESSIVELY. THE VEHICLE TENDS TO SWAY AND ROCK ALL WHILE TRYING TO CORRECT FOR THE CONTINUOUS WONDERING. IT'S A VERY ODD SENSATION THAT OCCURS, JUST WHEN YOU THINK YOU MIGHT GO STRAIGHT FOR A BIT THE VEHICLE WILL DART TO ONE SIDE AND IT HAS NO RHYTHM OR REASON. SOMETIMES LEFT SOMETIMES RIGHT AND THE ROAD CROWN PLAYS NO PART IN THE DIRECTION. DEALER ALIGNED ALL 4 WHEELS TWICE. ADDED TOE IN AND CAMBER TO THE REAR. ALSO, REPLACED REAR SPRINGS AND SHOCKS. TURNS OUT ONE OF THE SPRINGS WAS SHORTER THAN THE OTHER BY 1/4" CAUSING THE SUSPENSION TO BE UNBALANCED. THIS REPAIR HELPED FOR SOME OF THE UNEXPLAINED ROCKING BUT NOW THAT IT IS FIXED THE WHOLE STEERING ISSUE HAS BEEN EXACERBATED. I DON'T FEEL SAFE IN THE VEHICLE AND INTEND ON SELLING IT. CURRENTLY, IT HAS 11K MILES. I LOGGED ANOTHER COMPLAINT WITH HYUNDAI CUSTOMER SERVICE TODAY TOO. THE FACT THAT POTENTIAL BUYERS RARELY GET TO DRIVE THE NEW CAR FOR MORE THAN 7-10 MILES AND AT SPEEDS RARELY ABOVE CITY IS A DISSERVICE. I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 45 MPH ON AN OPEN ROAD, LITTLE TO NO TRAFFIC. THE SUNROOF IN MY SANTA FE SPONTANEOUSLY EXPLODED. WE HEARD A VERY LOUD BANG. A LARGE PIECE OF GLASS FLEW UP AND OUT OF MY CAR. SEVERAL SMALL PIECES OF GLASS FELL INTO THE CAR, ON ME AND MY 9 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER (WHO WAS IN THE BACKSEAT/DRIVER SIDE). THE FALLING GLASS RANGED FROM SLIVERS TO PEA SIZED TO LARGER THAN 2 INCHES. PANORAMIC SUNROOF, THE SECTION OF GLASS THAT OPENS, EXPLODED WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH DOWN THE INTERSTATE. THERE WERE NO CARS WITHIN 1/4 MILE OF ME, AND NO OVERHEAD BRIDGES, SO NOTHING HIT THE ROOF, IT JUST EXPLODED. IN FACT, LOOKING FROM THE EXTERIOR, IT IS CLEAR THAT THE GLASS BLEW OUTWARD, BECAUSE THE PERIMETER OF THE WHOLE IS CONVEX FACING OUTWARD, AND MOST ALL OF THE GLASS, INCLUDING THE WIND GUARD WERE BLOWN ONTO THE HIGHWAY. THE UPHOLSTERY LINER WAS RIPPED AS WELL. SO THANKFUL THAT I WAS BY MYSELF, AND THAT MY 8 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER AND WIFE WERE NOT IN THE CAR. IN MY MIND, THIS IS CLEARLY A MANUFACTURER'S DEFECT. I WAS DRIVING DOWN A TWO LANE ROAD ABOUT NOON ON DEC. 22. THE TEMPERATURE WAS ABOUT 70. I WAS GOING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH. I WAS NOT TURNING, JUST GOING STRAIGHT DOWN THE ROAD. I CLOSED THE COVER AND WE DROVE VERY SLOWLY (ABOUT 15 MILES) TO A PLACE WHERE WE COULD VACUUM UP THE GLASS. IT WAS IN BOTH THE FRONT AND BACK SEATS. WE CUT OUR HANDS TRYING TO CLEAN IT UP BUT WE HAD NO CHOICE. THE GLASS CONTINUED TO FALL AS WE DROVE AND RAIN WAS PREDICTED. WE HAD TO DO OUR BEST TO BE ABLE TO DRIVE IT ANOTHER 30 MILES TO PLACE TO GET IT WORKED ON. IT'S BEEN 24 DAYS (YES, RENTAL CAR FEES!) AND I STILL AND WAITING ON MY CAR. ABOUT 4 PM ON OCT 6, 2014, I WAS DRIVING SOUTH ON ROUTE 101S TOWARD YARMOUTH, NOVA SCOTIA, CANADA AT MILE MARKER 16. IT IS A 2 LANE RESTRICTED ACCESS HIGHWAY. THERE WERE 2 PEOPLE IN THE FRONT SEATS, ONE PERSON IN THE MIDDLE ROW, PASSENGER SIDE. THE DAY WAS PARTLY SUNNY, MID 60S, LITTLE WIND. MY SUNROOF WAS TILTED OPEN AND THE LINER WAS OPEN HALFWAY TO EXPOSE THE SUN ROOF OPENING. THE SPEED LIMIT ON THE ROAD WAS 100KM/HR, AND THAT WAS MY SPEED. THE OUTSIDE PART OF THE SUN ROOF THAT WAS STILL ATTACHED WAS ALSO ENTIRELY SHATTERED. I PROCEEDED DIRECTLY TO A HYUNDAI DEALER WHO TOOK PICTURES TO DOCUMENT THE DAMAGE. A WARRANTY REPAIR WAS AUTHORIZED. AFTER INSPECTION AND CLEANING, THE SUN ROOF AND LINER OPERATED CORRECTLY, WITH DAMAGE LIMITED TO THE GLASS PORTION OF THE SUNROOF. NO OTHER ROOF DAMAGE WAS NOTED. ABOUT 60 PERCENT OF THE SUN ROOF WAS GONE, SHATTERED INTO BITS THROUGHOUT THE FRONT, MIDDLE AND EVEN SOME INTO THE BACK OF THE CAR. THE OUTSIDE PART OF THE SUN ROOF THAT WAS STILL ATTACHED WAS ALSO ENTIRELY SHATTERED. I PROCEEDED DIRECTLY TO A HYUNDAI DEALER WHO TOOK PICTURES TO DOCUMENT THE DAMAGE. A WARRANTY REPAIR WAS AUTHORIZED. AFTER INSPECTION AND CLEANING, THE SUN ROOF AND LINER OPERATED CORRECTLY, WITH DAMAGE LIMITED TO THE GLASS PORTION OF THE SUNROOF. NO OTHER ROOF DAMAGE WAS NOTED. MY CONCERNS ARE THAT EVEN THOUGH THIS HAS BEEN REPLACED, COULDN'T IT HAPPEN AGAIN? Hi I'm in the car with my granddaughter 9 years old We will ready to visit my oldest son his daughter my 3rd grandchild 9 months old.my 9 year old granddaughter we were on I75 north ready to change lanes into the right slow lane as I am ready to merge onto exit 275 Ramp Land o lakes. I notice my rpm numbers are at zero, my SUV was losing speed, I had a green 18 wheeler tractor trailer exactly on my back end of my Hyundai Santa fe sport 2014, exactly on top of us. I can see the grill count bugs on it. My granddaughter was so upset, crying, panicky afraid to get hit by the cars, trucks,staying stranded.myquick thinking I kept my foot on the gas gave it all I could manage to get my SUV on the triangle safe spot in front of the sign exit 275. Once I took my foot slowly off the gas I notice all of the components were locking up shutting down slowly the lights just dimming into darkness nothing nothing was on as if she just shut down to sleep. It was very scary I am also suffering anxiety flashback what if I didn't think to get out of the tractor trailers way. My god my granddaughter I would have been hit slamed hard or pushed into on coming traffic or teadbone into the divider or over the slope. I dont feel safe my suv. My 2014 Hyundai Sonata is subject to the recall campaign for the 2.0L and 2.4L Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) engines. Since June 24, 2024, the vehicle has exhibited multiple issues: 1. Check Engine Light: The check engine light is continuously on and blinking, signaling that the vehicle is unsafe to drive. Diagnostic codes retrieved include P0140 (O2 Circuit), P0172 (System Too Rich), and P0126 (Knock Sensor Circuit). While the P0126 code pertains to the knock sensor, there has been no definitive diagnosis to determine if the issue is isolated to the sensor or indicative of a deeper engine problem. 2. Engine Power Issue: The car experiences jolts and kicks back during acceleration, along with intermittent lack of power. Furthermore, an independent mechanic performed some tests on the engine, determining that it runs too rich. After the second white smoke through exhaust incident, the vehicle struggles, and often does not reach, 60 MPH; aligning with "Reduced power and/or hesitation" (case #2) in the recall campaign. 3. Exhaust Smoke: On two separate occasions, within a month, white smoke has been observed exiting the exhaust. Engine oil has been below 3/5 empty each time. No oil leak found; must be exiting through exhaust. Despite qualifying for the recall, the Hyundai Colorado Springs dealer has refused to inspect or replace the engine as required. These ongoing issues pose significant safety risks, including the potential for unexpected engine failure and loss of power while driving.

ADDITIONAL ISSUES WITH SLIPPAGE SOUNDS FROM THE AXELS WHEN TURNING CORNERS. PROBLEM MAY BE LINKED TO OTHER OPEN RECALLS INVOLVING MANUFACTURER REPORTED MACHINE ERRORS DURING THE MANUFACTURING PROCESS THAT CAUSES PREMATURE BEARING WEAR WITHIN THE ENGINE. THE NOTED SAFETY RISK ON OTHER VIN NUMBERED MODELS WITHIN THE SAME CLASS IS THAT IT MAY CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO STALL, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH. THERE WERE NO OPEN RECALLS FOR THIS VIN NUMBER AT THE TIME SALE WAS MADE, BUT ISSUE IS QUITE PRESENT AT 50,000 MILES AND I HAVE CONTACTED CARMAX TO INFORM THEM OF THE ISSUE. THIS PARTICULAR PROBLEM SEEMS CONSISTENT WITH ALL MODELS OF HYUNDAI MANUFACTURED AROUND 2014. I took my vehicle in for recall and they replaced the fuse box. Starting that day, the auxiliary power outlet in the rear (trunk) started to short out my pump that I have used many times while blowing up lake tubing equipment. Also since then my trunk has been randomly opening on its own (mostly while I’m asleep). It is happening about every 3 days. There is nothing in the way of the latch or the door and it is closed and locked before I walk away. Started happening 6/29 and the recall replacement was on 6/27

One day Im driving to work and out of the blue, my car stereo stopped working, it turns on but no sound comes out of it. Tried replacing amplifier, speakers etc, nothing worked. After that, my car wouldn't start several times a month, had to jump start it frequently for about 4-5 months. Eventually it became if I didn't turn on my car atleast once a day, it would die and need to be jumped. So Ive been jumping my car almost every 2-3 days for the past month & 1/2.. Changed the battery multiple times. Took it to different mechanics and dealers, NOBODY knew what the issue was. Apparently something is draining my battery and no one knows how to figure it out!

As the noise persisted, the contact stated that the vehicle shut off upon the depression of the accelerator pedal while at a stop. While driving on the MA Route 90 on April 29, 2022, the vehicle stopped accelerating and became unsafe drive. I brought the car to Midas and was told that the car needed a new engine. I contacted a Hyundai dealer and was told that they could not look at the car as they had over a hundred Hyundai engines to replace. Prior to this incident, there were no warning lights or messages. I have learned that there seems to be significant problems with many Hyundai models. I believe this was extremely dangerous as the car would not accelerate whileI was in the fastlane of the highway.

While driving on a busy highway on December 26th, 2021 the vehicles check engine light suddenly illuminated and began flashing. There was a sudden loss of power and unable to accelerate. No warning lamps or indications that a catastrophic failure was impending. This was an extremely dangerous situation that almost ended in a fatal accident with other drivers having to slow down and go around the car in "limp mode.". Today, on January 5th, 2022 the dealership informed us that this vehicle is part of a massive lawsuit and settlement due to defective engines in Hyundai and Kia vehicles that throw rod bearings and even catch fire. There is a claim currently pending with Hyundai to have this engine replaced. There is an estimated 3-4 week turnaround before having the vehicle returned to us. We're to wait 3-5 business days to determine if Hyundai will approve or deny the claim. It's hard to imagine they will based off of us being the original owners and receipts indicating all required maintenance. We're also expecting to have Hyundai to pay for a rental vehicle since there are no loaners available.

WHEN MAKING A RIGHT OR LEFT TURN FROM A STOP INTO TRAFFIC AND THE SUV HITS A SMALL PATCH OF SNOW, POTHOLE OR BUMP IN THE STREET, THE STABILITY CONTROL WILL CURTAIL THE VEHICLE ACCELERATION FOR A FEW SECONDS. THIS HAS CAUSED A NEAR MISS REAREND COLLISION INTO MY VEHICLE ON THREE OCCASIONS. THERE IS A BUTTON TO SHUT THE ACCELERATION CONTROL FEATURE OFF BUT IT MUST BE PUSHED EACH TIME YOU START THE VEHICLE. FOR SOME REASON IT'S JUST STOP WORKING FROM A FEW HOURS AND IT'S TURN ON AGAIN BY ITSELF. I CAN READ IN THE DASH SCREEN THE WARNING (BSD NO WORKING). I MAKE AN APPOINTMENT WITH HYUNDAI SERVICE CENTER BUT THEY CAN'T HELP ME BECAUSE THE CAR DON'T GIVE TO THEM ANY CODE REGARDING THIS PROBLEM. My 2014 Santa Fe was scheduled for a Recall 251 ABS Brake Failure-Fire hazard. NHTSA and Hyundai both advised owners of vehicles associated with this recall to park away from structures and recommended the vehicle not to be driven. Hyundai did not have a solution for roughly 6 months. During that time I kept my vehicle parked and away from structures as recommended for that 251 safety concern. I periodically would start the car and let it run to keep it from failing. I went through an entire winter season waiting for a solution a recall. My car just sat. Extreme weather and susceptible to dirt as it sat outside parked. Finally in May 2024 I was informed that Hyundai had a solution and parts were ready for the 251 recall repair. Well the day I was scheduled to bring my vehicle in to be repaired I went out and attempted to start the vehicle but could not. I tried to jump the battery and it still wouldn’t start so I called the dealer and told them that I couldn’t get the vehicle started. They would not provide a tow so I rescheduled the appointment and I called a tow service the next day. Tow came and checked the battery. The battery was fine. They jumped the battery and the vehicle turned on. the vehicle to a local dealer and they repaired the recalls. The vehicle was driven to the dealer that week. My vehicle’s recalls were completed and I picked up the car a week later. All of a sudden when I went to start the car it would not turn over. I stalled in the lane of travel and avoided a collision. I called a private tow again, towed to the same dealer that did the recall. Engine light came on and they were able to determine that the crank position sensor failed as to the reason for stalling and intermittent starting. $600 later they repaired it. I left and the next day my car wouldn’t start again. I associated this with the 251 recall and wear as it sat dormant for too many months. Hyundai refused to provide Goodwill or reimbursement for the crankshaft repair.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 95,000.

Clock spring is defective/broken. This could be very dangerous as the airbag may not deploy in the event of an accident. Hyundai has used this exact part on other vehicles that have had issue and have recalled/extended the warranty to cover. Hyundai however won't fix this very dangerous issue on the Santa Fe and even wanted almost $200 just to look at the car even though the part is very obviously broken.

MY AIRBAG LIGHT HAS BEEN ON IN MY VEHICLE. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER TODAY, AND THEY DIAGNOSED IT AS A CLOCK SPRING PROBLEM. THEY SAID MY AIRBAG IS NOT SAFE (MAY NOT DEPLOY). THEY SAID THERE IS NO ACTIVE RECALL, BUT I DID A LITTLE RESEARCH AND FOUND OUT THE OLDER SANTA FE, VERACRUZ, SONATA AND ELANTRA ALL HAVE RECALLS FOR THIS EXACT SAME PROBLEM. IT IS CLEARLY A HYUNDAI PROBLEM AND THEY NEED TO ISSUE A RECALL FOR THE LATER MODEL VEHICLES (MINE IS A 2014).

The dealer has confirmed that my 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe has an oil consumption issue. This results in the car randomly losing power from the accelerator while driving. You can push the accelerator all the way down to the floor and there is no power in the engine. The car then slows down drastically which results in potential car crashes from behind since there is no warning to the driver or to drivers of other cars. My car started having this issue in July 2021 when it had about 129,000 miles on it. It took Hyundai until late 2022 to determine the issue and deny responsibility for it. The attached documents do not include the multiple times that I had to bring the car in every 1000 miles to check the oil (they didn't document that). They said it would cost me $21,575 to fix the engine which is almost as much as a new car would cost! I have seen many complaints online about this same issue happening with other car owners and I feel that Hyundai should be held responsible for correcting this known safety issue. I was planning to drive this car until 200,000 miles which would be at least another 3-4 years before I had to replace it. At this point I am having to add a quart of oil every 500 miles and hope that the engine doesn't seize up and cause an accident.

THIS HAS ENDED UP IN NUMEROUS HESITATIONS AND NEAR ACCIDENTS WHEN ENTERING INTO TRAFFIC. ON FRIDAY, 1/29/16 WHILE EXITING FROM THE 9TH TIER OF A PARKING GARAGE THE HESITATION HAPPENED ON ALL 9 TIERS AS I ROUNDED THE CORNER TO THE NEXT TIER AND BEGAN TO ACCELERATE. I HAVE AN APPOINTMENT AGAIN WITH THE DEALER ON 2/19/16 AND WILL REPORT FURTHER AFTER THAT BUT SUSPECT I WILL GET THE SAME MESSAGE THAT THEY "COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG".

I HAVE A 2014 HYUNDAI SANTA FE SPORT THAT BURNS AN EXSESSIVE AMOUNTS OF OIL. I DO ALOT OF DRIVING MAYBE AROUND 36 MILES A DAY. EVERY TWO WEEKS ANOTHER OIL CHANGE IS NEEDED. BOUGHT THIS VECHLE IN 2017 WITH ONLY 20,000 MILES ON IT THE EVERYTIME I GOES TO JIFFY LUBE IT SHOWS THAT THE ENGINE WAS SUPPOSED TO BE REPLACED. THERE HAS BEEN MULTIPLE PROBLEMS WITH THIS VECHILE SINCE DAY ONE OF HAVING IT. I NEVER GOTTEN A NOTICE ABOUT THIS INFORMATION. HYUNDAI HAS BEEN CALLED NUMEROUS OF TIMES CONCERNING THIS MATTER. MY 2014 SANTA FE SPORT BEGAN SHAKING VIOLENTLY AT 72 MPH. I TOOK IT TO A SHOP THINKING THE WHEELS HAD BECOME UNBALANCED. IMMEDIATELY THE VEHICLE BEGAN SHAKING AGAIN. I AGAIN TOOK IT FOR RE-BALANCING. SAME SHAKING PROBLEM. I TOOK IT A THIRD TIME TO AN AUTO REPAIR SHOP WHO FOUND THAT THE CALIPERS WERE SO HOT THEY WERE ABOUT TO BURN. YOU COULD FEEL AND SMELL THE HEAT. THE SHOP REPLACED THE CALIPERS THINKING THE SHAKING WAS A BRAKING ISSUE SINCE EVERY TIME I APPLIED THE BRAKES, THE VEHICLE WOULD SHAKE EVEN WORSE. THE CALIPER REPLACEMENT DID NOT FIX THE ISSUE. FINALLY AFTER REPLACING THE BRAKE PADS, CALIPERS, AND ROTORS, THE SHOP DID ANOTHER ROAD TEST. THEN THE CAR NOT ONLY SHOOK BUT THE ENGINE STARTED KNOCKING DUE TO TIE ROD FAILURE. THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO BE DANGEROUS TO DRIVE, SO THE SHOP HAD IT TOWED TO HYUNDAI FOR AN ENGINE REPLACEMENT UNDER A TSB. HYUNDAI REPLACED THE ENGINE BUT WOULD NOT TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE CALIPER AND BRAKING ISSUES, WHICH ENDED UP BEING DIRECTLY RELATED TO THE ENGINE ISSUE.

Driving on interstate felt car stall pulled to side of the road placed in park. Looked under hood noticed car hot checked oil and was completely dry. I know for a fact there had not been any leakage prior that was on the ground where I parked and none under where I pulled off road. Not one check engine light or low oil light had came on prior or during the time of the car stalling. Called tow truck to have it taken to dealership where they turned it back on after I advised of issue and that it shouldn't be turned on they said they had to to know what it was doing and the engine at that point was making loud knocking noise. I was told engine would have to be replaced. I was told I'm not the only one that has had this issue with this model car but there is no recall so it would be out of my pocket even though there is a "known issue". This was dangerous as it stalled in middle of interstate and left me stranded. Also, I got regular oil changes and was actually on my way to appt to have oil changed and never had been told that I was leaking or ever low on oil by dealership either. If looked up the known issue is with oil consumption. Dealership still cannot explain where yhe oil leaked from or went to.

All incidents, no accidents[Thannk God!] I drive a 2014 Sante Fe Sport. I noticed a clicking noise when turning the steering wheel. Initially, I heard it once in a while. I thought it was a one time noise. The clicking noise is more constant, when making a turn while the car is in motion. Sometimes the steering wheel feels 'loose' or uncontrollable. I believe it is the steering wheel or coupler. I am concerned for my safety and other drivers. Hearing this clicking constantly, sounds like the steering wheel is going to break. It is annoying! I am not comfortable driving this vehicle. I have no other means of transportation. I looked on the internet. I saw where customers have listed this complaint. There was a recall for 2018. The recall was shown as 173. This did not include my year, 2014. There was no recall shown. WHEN TURNING, THE VEHICLE MAKES A CLUNK SOUND. HAD IT INSPECTED AT HYUNDAI OF WESLEY CHAPEL AND IT WAS FOUND TO HAVE AN INTERNAL FAILURE OF STEERING RACK GEAR ASSEMBLY AND NOW REQUIRES A REPLACEMENT OF THE STEERING RACK ASSEMBLY. VEHICLE ENGINE SEIZED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD WITH NO WARNING OR INDICATION THAT IT WAS ABOUT TO HAPPEN. MY 3 AND 4 YEAR OLD WERE WITH ME AS WE WERE STUCK IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD, THANKFULLY NO ONCOMING TRAFFIC AT THE TIME DUE TO THE LIGHT BEING RED. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME I HAVE HAD A KNOWN ISSUE THAT WAS RECALLED BY HYUNDAI BUT DID NOT INCLUDE MY VIN NUMBER. I ALSO HAD TROUBLE WITH MY STEERING WHEEL AND CALLED ABOUT IT AND IT WAS NOT COVERED BECAUSE MY VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE CONTACT COASTED THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND NOTICED THAT THE REAR DRIVER SIDE TIRE BLEW OUT. THE CONTACT REPLACED THE TIRE WITH A SPARE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 13V624000 (TIRES). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE DOT NUMBER WAS UNKNOWN. My steering would work while I was driving with my kids in the car, my breaks were barely working, the hood started smoking and something under the hood in the engine caught on fire, there was a horrible smell when I was breaking and the breaks would jolt. The engine and cooling was not turning off even with my key taken out, the fan engine was running nonstop no matter what, smoking etc

Drive side door latch does not open from inside or out. Even after removing inner door panel and manually pulling latch cables the latch remains in the locked position. This is an obvious and major safety issue where the driver is unavailable to exit the vehicle. Other years were recalled for this issue however my 2014 model is not on the recall list for some reason. Even though the very same safety issue with door latch occurs.

The contact owns a 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V651000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact stated while driving at approximately 45 MPH on a highway exit ramp, she depressed the brake pedal and the "ABS" and check engine warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was not slowing and was vibrating while depressing the brake pedal. The contact stated that the brake pedal was very soft while being depressed and the vehicle was stalling. The contact drove the vehicle to an independent mechanic who diagnosed the vehicle and replaced the brake seals and other unknown brake parts. The vehicle was repaired. The contact stated that the brake failure reoccurred along with the engine stalling. The contact drove the vehicle to a dealer and was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 92,000. Parts distribution disconnect.

1) What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? I tried to park in the parking space next to it by making a slight right turn. As soon as I stepped on the brake to park, the car began to rush forward. I noticed again and again that my foot was slamming on the brakes, but the car didn't stop. My car went over the ledge between the parking lot and the store, slammed into the pillar of the building on the left, smashed all the glass in the dance studio, and hit the wall on the right before coming to a stop. It took six seconds from rushing forward to into the store. 2) How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? I must have been severe injured if the car didn't stop by hitting a right-side wall of the store. And if there were people, I was not able to avoid casualites. 3) Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? No, the car was towed and reviewd by car insurance. Car insurance informed that th e car will be total loss. No information about reproducing the issue 4) Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? No 5) Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No, that was suddenly occured 6) Request: I want NHTSA to investigate my car of sudden unintended acceleration. I would like to get EDR, X-ray of PCB board of electrical central unit(a.k.a ECU) managing brake and accelerator and car manufacturer's reliability sign-off report of the ECU board. I have a security footage taking the accident moment. I failed to upload the video. If you want, please let me know. Will send the video file with NHTSA.

The contact owns a 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe. The contact stated that the ABS warning light, the steering warning light, and the Hill Descent control warning light were illuminated. The contact stated while driving 45 MPH, another vehicle in the left turn lane was intruding into his lane. The contact stated that he slightly swerved to the right; however, the wheels locked up, and the vehicle skidded before it came to a stop, nearly causing a crash. The dealer was notified of the failure, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V651000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic) which he related to the failure; however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 90,000.

When driving down the highway a thud was heard. The car was pulled over to the side of the road and smoke was coming from under the hood. The door locks were not working but we were able to manually pull up the lock to open the door. The smoke built up quickly and the car engulfed in flames. This put the driver and passenger in imminent danger. The car has not yet been inspected by manufacturer, police, insurance representatives. There were no warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure. The car fire happened 12/02/2023 at 1:30 am.

There was a recall with the abs slipper slope and traction this left these warning symbols stay on constantly. I was told by Westside hyundai in Jacksonville this would cost me over $200.00 but I shouldn't have to pay for something that was recalled that left my vehicle this way. Also the drivers identified seatbelt doesn't click it will come loosen and out unless you hold down the button then put the seat belt in and let go of the button.

On June2 2023 I was driving on I75 north to Wesley chapel, Pasco exit ramp 273 I and granddaughter were left on highway no Emergency lights nothing. My SUV just shut down just no warning no lights no noise huge smell of chemical burn when my daughter and the road ranger arrived they notice the bad smell at engine like chemical very bad. There was ni emergency lights, rpms were not working i notice ut dropped down, a tractor trailer wad seconds inches on my suv. I did a sudden sharp turn steering column so I can get the SUV to glide into the triangular Divider with the exit was for me to get off so we were stuck I 75 north in between pasco exit to 73 that's where my SUV broke down. No Warning nothing now which is November 2023 my car still not running I had a recall dates but I became ill now ill Now I have to find out I can get my car fixed. When I purchase the car several months later I noticed the Abs lights were on but ABS breaks the slope and the traction all those lights go on emergency break light goes on while i drive but that did not happen during the time that I was driving on the i75 north highway. I had my granddaughter who was 9 years old at the time. We could have been hit. Suv was locked down And said goodbye it was like someone controlling my suv. SUV was zzz like gliding I have a full tank of gas. I had to tow it after waiting 8 hours no lights on suv but I also tried to have the battery tested or started it'll start but the key fob will not work. Its confused. I'm very very upset I paid off my suv, had one recall after I bought and now again. This time SUV died no warning nothing I feel courtesy Hyundai should tow my suv, recall check, courtesy check and my two key fobs. This I should not have to feel UNSAFE in my suv always wondering will this happen again and will I be a fatal driver hoping I don't have any of my grandchildren nor my adult kids or any human being.

I Recently, experienced a sudden and alarming incident with my car. Out of nowhere, the car began leaking gas, which resulted in a fire. Prior to this incident, the car was in perfect working condition, and there were no signs of any issues or malfunctions. It was a completely unexpected and unfortunate event that posed a significant danger. The vehicle was towed to Hyundai Dealership of Myrtle Beach, SC in August. The service agent explained that the vehicle technician would diagnosed the issue that she would call me back with plans and pricing. She shortly called back and stated that the diagnosis was a fuel line and that it needed to be replaced, that the part was approx. $200.00 for the part and after labor totaling approx. $1025. This was agreed and plans were made for me to pick my vehicle up by 3:00pm. She later called back and stated that the fuel pump was replaced but that the car was still leaking gas and would result in more diagnosis and repair fees up to $6,000 or more. I questioned the original diagnosis and she explained She would have to hand the matter over to Management. I spoke with Mgt. several times on the repair and mis diagnosis who claims it was not their fault and that they found hidden damage that the fire caused. Since then I have been told I would get some type of help and that He has written a letter to Coorp. and received a response that they were sending an Inspector out to look at my car. It has been over 60 days now without my vehicle and they have explained that they have reached out to Hyundai Corporation and submitted a notice for recall or help with this matter and no response yet.

My engine started making a loud knocking noise suddenly. It only has 84,000 miles on it and I haven't missed any maintenance appointments. The Hyundai dealership was thoroughly unhelpful when I called them so I had another mechanic look at it. Turns out there is metal in my oil and my engine is shot. I have a reasonable expectation of not needing a new engine at 84,000 miles but I am not sure if this has to do with the most recent recall with engine fires.

I brought the 2014 HYUNDAI SANTA FE ON MAY 10, 2022. On JANUARY 7, 2023 I was driving down the highway when the HYUNDAI shut down. No warning lights or nothing just stopped. We could not get it started no matter what we did. My son in law checked it out and found out it was the engine. Talked to the dealer and found out there was a recall for an engine in 2018. That was never taken care of. We never knew about the recall until after my HYUNDAI HAD TROUBLE. Took it to the HYUNDAI DEALER IS DES MOINES FEBRUARY 10, 2023 and they said there was 3 recalls that was not done . But they now said it is too late for the recalls . SO WHAT WE NEED TO KNOW IS ARE WE GOING TO GET THE RECALLS DONE OR JUST FORGET ABOUT FIXING THE HYUNDAI. I SEEN WHERE ENGINES OR MOTORS WAS FOREVER INSURANCED ON HYUNDAIS. ARE THEY YET.?? I received a notice of recall on the ABS for my Hyundai Santa Fe 2014 Sport. My ABS light recently illuminated, I went to the Hyundai site to make an appt. I was given one a week out, while waiting for the appt my brake lights wouldn’t turn off unless I disconnected the battery. I took the vehicle to the dealership in Brevard Fl, the guy kept trying to upsell me $180 for diagnostics and that I had to pay it for every light on. Which I explained had all happened since the ABS light. I was there for 4 hours and I asked him to fix the ABS he didn’t said he didn’t have time and I had to reschedule. I had to wait another week, I took it to a friend who is a certified mechanic. He put it on his diagnostic computer and it kept coming back with ABS code. Said he couldn’t do the brakes until that was fixed. Went back this week, didn’t ask me anything when I pulled in, not even an hour later said my vehicle was done come get it. He handed me a quote of $1300 for brakes. I asked if I paid that would it fix the ABS he said no, but ur vehicle is not safe to drive. I explained I know, it wasn’t safe last week and you didn’t help me. I was able to get my vehicle to nearby brake-shop. I explained everything that happen, they also ran diagnostics and said it was ABS that they couldn’t fix it either until the dealership fixed the ABS. Now my vehicle is stuck at brake-shop and I just started a new job and have already had to miss two days work. I am completely dumbfounded as to why I am getting the run around and no one wants to help. I deplore having to complain, however it feels as though there is no more customer service/satisfaction.

While driving normally, suddenly the vehicle will jolt and the RPMs go down to zero despite the vehicle still moving. Even with the gas pedal pushed down to the floor, and being able to hear the engine 'vrooming', the vehicle will not increase speed. It is extremely dangerous to not be able to speed up when on a highway or interstate. The check engine light does not come on, the diagnostic at the dealership does not throw any codes and the issue is intermittent so no one knows how to fix it since they can't duplicate the problem on demand. Usually turning the car off and on will 'fix' the problem until it happens again out of nowhere. The vehicle is extremely unsafe; this has been happening on and off for months. We do have videos of this occurring; no one at the dealership or any friends who are mechanics have any idea of what is wrong.

I was driving to pickup my dog from daycare centre and when I arrive to house, put my car in Park then a huge amount of smoke came out from the front hood of car. The smoke got bigger and bigger within 30 seconds I couldn't see anything from front of car and around driver's seat. There was no Hazard alerts or signs on my car that my car was overheating. There was no signal or emergency shut off on the car when the overheating began. My boyfriend was in car at time. My dog was walking outside with daycare caretaker when a flame started on Driver's side engine. The flame lit and sparked into a huge flame. I ran out of car while my boyfriend yelled for everyone to back away from car before it explodes. The flame grew and engine bursted into flames, a loud explosion followed. I did not have any time to even gather what was going on before my eyes, I was trembling in shock and could not speak clearly. Immediately, I called police to come put out the fire. The fire department was transferred into my phone call. I was able to give address and they arrived on scene within 3-4 minutes. Fire department put out the flames with a water hose. The car was completely damaged, falling apart into pieces, front hood was on fire to the back seats, doors were on fire, steering wheel was gone, entire front dashboard and chairs were melted and gone in pieces. I started feeling sick and overwhelming stressed.

The contact owned a 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe. The contact stated that while driving approximately at 75-80 mph when another vehicle driving at high speeds crashed into the rear of the vehicle causing the vehicle to sway. The contact attempted to avoid crashing into another vehicle but crashed into a concrete divider. When the contact depressed the brake pedal, it failed to respond. As a result, the vehicle flipped over. During the incident, the seat let's failed to retract and secure the contact therefore he collided with the windshield during the impact. The air bags failed to deploy. The contact sustained injuries to his back, ribs, and shoulder that required medical attention. The vehicle was towed and deemed totaled. A police report was not filed. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 70,100.

Back in March my landlord lost his keys then Someone started to enter my unit illegally I filed numerous police reports to ensure safety for me and my two small children but wasn’t taken serious was forced and admitted into the hospital for trying to protect me and my children losing custody as well and my car was left parked on a city street, my house possessions were all damaged as well and I believe a rodent or someone left the windows down purposely for a rodent to gain entrance to my vehicle and living area as well, my vehicle tires kept needing repairs the interior had some kind of infestation and something was wrong with the ventilation system in the car and I didn’t feel safe driving the vehicle nor did I feel that the vehicle was worth the 413 monthly payments which I never missed payments on up until this incident. I tried to go through my car insurance company and local Hyundai dealer for a replacement of my vehicle and nothing was done to protect my safety or health also my banking information was compromised and I lost financial control and was unable to make payments for the last two months because of this I reached out to Santander consumer which is my finance company to express my concerns and they was unable to stop the repossession, I feel horribly scammed and is wondering if there is anything that can be done to stop me from further loss if anything is needed further feel free to contact me

The vehicle is in excellent condition with all maintenance complete. Starting intermittently at approximately 40,000 miles, and now consistently since 49,000 miles, 3 warning lights illuminate on the dash simultaneously; 1: ABS warning light, 2: TCS warning light, 3: Hill Assist warning light. Reading the codes with a code scan tool indicates the Right Rear Wheel Speed Sensor has a short circuit, an open circuit, or has failed, or the wire connector has failed. If the ABS or TCS systems are not functioning, there is a higher risk of crash. This is a very common problem according to simple google searches, and affected vehicles should be recalled and repaired.

MADE AN APPOINTMENT TO GET THESE FIXED AND I EXPLAINED I HAD CAR SHIELD AND THEY SAID THEY ACCEPTED CAR SHIELD. TODAY, MAY 5TH WHEN I TOOK THE CAR BACK (FIRST APPT. I COULD GET) AFTER I SAT THERE FOR 1-1/2 HOURS THEY CAME BACK AND TOLD ME MORE THINGS WERE WRONG AND INFORMED ME AT THAT TIME THEY NO LONG USE CAR SHIELD. I'M DONE WITH HYUNDAI. ABS, DOWNHILL, AND TRACTION CONTROL INDICATOR LIGHTS ILLUMINATE ON THE DASH. HYUNDAI DEALER SAYS A REAR WHEEL BEARING/WHEEL SPEED SENSOR IS FAILING AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THEY SAID THEY'VE SEEN THIS MANY TIMES AND WHEN LOOKING ONLINE THESE SEEM DESTINED TO FAIL ON MY HYNDAI SANTA FE'S 3-6 YEARS INTO THE VEHICLE LIFE. THERE IS A TSB FOR THIS ISSUE THAT SAYS IT RELATES TO SEA WATER, BUT IT MAY JUST BE ANY WATER/WET CONDITIONS. I BELIEVE A RECALL IS NEEDED FOR THIS ISSUE.

I SEE IT'S A EXTREMELY COMMON PROBLEM POST ON FORUMS ALL OVER THE WEB. IT'S NOT A NECESSITY BUT COULD BE HAZARDOUS GIVEN THE MOMENT IT DECIDES TO QUIT.

IT WAS INDICATED BY A LETTER FROM HYUNDAI MOTOR AMERICA THAT THE BRAKE SYSTEM ON THIS CAR CAN POSSIBLY REACT TO A ELECTRICAL SHORT IN THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM, CAUSING A FIRE WITHIN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. THEREFORE A RECALL WAS INITIATED, BUT A SOLUTION FOR REPAIR, FOR THE PAST 4 MONTHS, IS NOT YET AVAILABLE. IT IS MY OPINION THAT A CAR WITH THIS CONDITION IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE AND THEREFORE HYUNDAI SHOULD FURNISH A LONER CAR FOR THE PERIOD IT TAKES TO MAKE A SAFETY REPAIR OR REPLACE THE CAR. THERE IS A SIGNIFICANT LEAP OR JERK WHEN IT SHIFTS FROM 1ST TO 2ND GEAR. SEEMS TO HAPPEN WHEN THE CAR IS COLD. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE LOCAL HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP THAT CLAIMED IT DIDN'T DO IT WHEN THEY DROVE IT. AFTER PICKING IT UP FROM THEM, THE CAR RAN BEAUTIFULLY FOR ABOUT TWO WEEKS. THEY DON'T CLAIM TO HAVE DONE ANYTHING BUT FROM I CAN FIND OUT ABOUT THIS PROBLEM IS THAT THEY RESET THE COMPUTER BUT IT DOESN'T FIX ANYTHING. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD. I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO MAKE IT STOP WHEN I PUT IT IN PARK, TURN OFF THE ENGINE AND THEN TURN IT BACK ON. SEEMS TO RESET THE COMPUTER AND IT'S OK FOR A WEEK. I BELIEVE HYUNDAI DOES KNOW ABOUT THIS PROBLEM WITH THE SANTA FE AND THE ELANTRA. THEY JUST HAVE NOT COME UP WITH AN UPDATED SOFTWARE PROGRAM THAT WILL FIX THIS HAZARDOUS SITUATION. THE OTHER PROBLEM IS THE BLIND SIDE DETECTION BECOMES DISABLED WHEN IT IS RAINING MAKING THAT A HAZARDOUS SITUATION AS WELL.

THE CONTROLS ON THE STEERING WHEEL HAVE COMPLETELY STOPPED WORKING. ACCORDING TO MY RESEARCH IT APPEARS THE CLOCK SPRING IN THE STEERING WHEEL HAS GONE BAD. HYUNDAI HAS EXTENDED THE WARRANTY FOR OTHER MODELS WITH CLOCK SPRING ISSUES (SEE ATTACHMENT) BUT NOT THE 2014 HYUNDAI SANTA FE SPORT TO DATE. A BAD CLOCK SPRING COULD AFFECT THE AIR BAG INCLUDING POSSIBLY DEPLOYING IN AN ACCIDENT. THIS IS DEFINITELY A SAFETY ISSUE. AT THE BEGINNING OF THE CLOCK SPRING GOING BAD, THE CONTROLS ON THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD WORK WITH THE STEERING WHEEL TURNED ALL THE WAY IN EITHER DIRECTION. NOW, THEY DON'T WORK AT ALL. SINCE THE CLOCK SPRING COULD CAUSE A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE THE 2014 MODEL SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN THEIR EXTENDED WARRANTY OR RECALL....OR SHALL THEY WAIT TO SEE HOW MANY PEOPLE GET HURT OR POSSIBLY KILLED FIRST. TOOK IT BACK UP THERE ON MONDAY, EXPLAINED THAT THIS WAS THE 3RD TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED, AND IT NEEDS TO BE FIXED BECAUSE IT'S A MAJOR SAFETY HAZARD. THEY HAD IT FOR A WEEK OR SO AND CALLED ME AND SAID THEY REPLACED THE FUSE ONCE AGAIN, AND DROVE IT OVER 215 MILES AND COULDN'T GET THE CAR TO DUPLICATE THE ISSUE. THEY SAID MY CAR HAD THEM STUMPED. THEY TOLD ME THEY WERE CONFIDENT IT WAS GOING TO BE OKAY. I LEFT, AND LESS THAN 24 HOURS AFTER I GOT THE CAR, I WAS DRIVING AT 7:00PM AND THEY WENT OUT AGAIN, THIS TIME AN HOUR AWAY FROM MY HOUSE. VEHICLE SPONTANEOUSLY BURNED IN A SKI AREA PARKING LOT IN MAINE. FIRE STARTED AT REAR LEFT (DRIVER'S SIDE) OF CAR. THE CAR WAS DRIVEN APPROXIMATELY 15 MINUTES IN THE MORNING AND PARKED FOR OVER 4 HOURS WHEN LOCAL POLICE AND FIRE WERE NOTIFIED OF A CAR BURNING. BY THE TIME I RETURNED TO THE CAR, THE FIRE HAD BEEN EXTINGUISHED. ALTHOUGH NO CAUSE OF ORIGIN WAS DETERMINED, IT APPEARS THE FIRE IGNITED FROM AN ELECTRICAL ISSUE IN THE REAR LEFT. THE BACK HALF OF THE VEHICLE WAS HEAVILY DAMAGED. MUCH OF MY PERSONAL PROPERTY WAS SALVAGEABLE AND ANY BAGS WHICH BURNED/MELTED DID SO FROM THE OUTSIDE IN, A FURTHER INDICATION THAT THE VEHICLE FIRE STARTED WITH A VEHICLE ISSUE. IT WAS THE FIRST DAY THE CAR EXPERIENCED ABOVE FREEZING TEMPS IN ABOUT 3 WEEKS. I NOTE THAT BECAUSE THERE WAS A CANADA ONLY RECALL OF 2013 HYUNDAI SANTA FES FOR RISK OF FIRE WHEN SALT GRIME ENTERS THE REAR PARKING SENSORS (WHICH MY VEHICLE HAD) AND SHORT CIRCUITS - IT APPEARS THE RISK OF FIRE DUE TO THIS ISSUE CAN OCCUR WHEN THE VEHICLE IS PARKED AND OFF. VEHICLE AT 40,000 MILES APPRARENTLY IT IS NOT UNDER WARRANTY (36,000MI) OFCOURSE, FOR THEM TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM THEY CHARGE YOU ABOUT $140 AFTER TAX JUST TO DIAGNOSE IT. HOW MUCH TO FIX THE RADIO? AGENT SAID, "IT WILL BE ABOUT $1700 BUT SINCE THE LEASE IS UP I CAN PUT YOU IN A BRAND NEW TUCSON AND I WILL FIX THE RADIO FREE OF CHARGE AND CREDIT YOU BACK FOR THE DIAGNOSTICS CHARGE". I WALKED OUT OF THE DEALERSHIP. AND AIRBAG LIGHT KEEPS COMING ON PAS SIDE.

DRIVING IN THE FAR LEFT LANE ON THE INTERSTATE AT ROUGHLY 55 MPH I ATTEMPTED TO AVOID A DRIFTING CAR AS I CORRECTED THE STEERING WHEEL AND ACCELERATOR FAILED TO RESPOND. AS A RESULT I STRUCK A VEHICLE STOPPED ON THE SHOULDER OF THE INTERSTATE. THE AIRBAGS IN THE OTHER VEHICLE DEPLOYED. THE AIRBAGS IN MY VEHICLE DID NOT DEPLOY. THE FRONT END COLLISION WAS BAD ENOUGH THAT THE SUV WAS DECLARED A TOTAL LOSS. THE ADJUSTER ALSO FOUND THAT THE FIREWALL HAD SPLIT AND APPEARED TO BE FAULTY. DUE TO THE AIRBAGS NOT DEPLOYING DURING THE COLLISION I SUFFERED A CONCUSSION AND VARIOUS OTHER INJURIES AS WELL AS LOSS OF HOURS AT WORK, LOSS OF PAY, MEDICAL BILLS AND EXPENSES IN ADDITION TO OWNING MONEY ON MY CAR LOAN AS THE INSURANCE DID NOT COVER THE COST OF THE LOAN.

EXACTLY 2,000 MILES AFTER MY 60,000 MILE WARRANTY EXPIRED, MY CAR EXPERIENCED A FAILURE OF THE AIR BAG CONTROL MODULE WHICH ALSO IMPACTED STEERING, YAW/STABILITY AND OTHER VEHICLE SAFETY FEATURES. THE WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON WHILE I WAS STARTING THE VEHICLE BUT I ENCOUNTERED NO ISSUES WHEN DRIVING IT 25 MINUTES TO A DEALERSHIP TO HAVE IT CHECKED OUT (FORTUNATELY). IT TOOK FROM 2 PM APRIL 4 TO 4 PM APRIL 6 TO GET THE NECESSARY REPAIRS DONE (THE PART HAD TO BE SPECIAL ORDERED). IT WAS NOT COVERED BY EITHER THE EXPIRED 60,000 MILE WARRANTY OR THE EXTRA ($1,500) 100,000 MILE WARRANTY (I WAS TOLD THAT THAT WARRANTY DID NOT COVER SAFETY ISSUES).

ON THREE OCCASIONS NOW, I HAVE NEARLY HIT A PEDESTRIAN IN A CROSSWALK, BECAUSE I DID NOT SEE THAT PEDESTRIAN. ALL THREE WERE HIDDEN FROM MY VIEW BY A COMBINATION OF THE DRIVER SIDE MIRROR AND THE FRAME OF THE CAR ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE WINDSHIELD. TOGETHER, THE PLACEMENT OF THESE TWO FEATURES CREATES A SURPRISINGLY LARGE BLIND SPOT. I THINK IT IS PARTLY RELATED TO THE FACT THAT THE SEATS IN THE CAR ALSO CANNOT BE RAISED ENOUGH; I HAVE GOOD FRONT VISIBILITY, BUT IF I COULD GET HIGHER I DO THINK THE MIRROR MIGHT BE LESS OF AN OBSTACLE. EACH TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED, I LEARN A NEW TYPE OF SITUATION IN WHICH I MUST NOT TRUST WHAT I SEE, BUT I WORRY ABOUT UNANTICIPATED SITUATIONS IN THE FUTURE.

DRIVER'S SEAT LURCHES FORWARD AND BACKWARDS AT RANDOM TIMES WHILE DRIVING. THIS HAPPENS REGARDLESS OF SPEED, BRAKE/ ACCELERATION/ CRUISE CONTROL, TYPE OF ROAD, DIRECTION OR MOVEMENT ETC. OFTEN TIMES WHILE THE CAR IS PARKED OR IN MOTION, THE SEAT WILL NOT MOVE AT ALL IN ANY DIRECTION. ALSO, THE ABS, TRACTION CONTROL, AND DOWNHILL LIGHT HAVE ALL BEEN TURNING ON AND OFF AT RANDOM, AND, WHILE PARKED AND WITHOUT PROVOCATION, MY SPEEDOMETER NEEDLE BEGAN JUMPING. LESS IMPORTANT, THE DRIVER'S SEAT A/C DOES NOT WORK CONSISTENTLY WHICH LEADS ME TO BELIEVE THIS IS AN ELECTRICAL MALFUNCTION, HOWEVER, THE MULTIPLE TIMES I HAVE TAKEN THIS VEHICLE INTO THE "SERVICE CENTER", THE MECHANICS SAID THEY COULD NOT RECREATE THE PROBLEM AND SENT MY BROKEN CAR HOME, SO THE OFFICIAL REASON IS UNKNOWN. I AM ONLY 5'2" SO THIS HAS CAUSED ME CONSIDERABLE PROBLEMS WITH SUDDENLY NOT BEING ABLE TO REACH THE PEDALS, AND HAS ALMOST RESULTED IN NUMEROUS ACCIDENTS.

I HAVE A 2014 HYUNDAI SANTA FE SPORT AWD. THIS IS MY 3RD HYUNDAI. I HAVE REALLY BEEN IMPRESSED UNTIL NOW. MY CAR WANDERS ALL OVER THE ROAD WHEN DRIVING OVER 50MPH EITHER ON A ROAD OR INTERSTATE. I HAVE TO WORK HARD TO HOLD THE WHEEL TO KEEP THE VEHICLE STRAIGHT. THE HANDLING IS AWFUL I FEEL LIKE MY CAR IS SKATING ALL OVER THE ROAD. LIKE I AM DRIVING ON ICE. THE CAR IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. I HAVE BEEN TO THE DEALERSHIP, HAD THE ALIGNMENT CHECKED, HAD A NEW ALIGNMENT PERFORMED, AS WELL AS REPLACE THE TIRES. THIS HAS NOT FIXED THE ISSUE. I FEEL IT IS UNSAFE TO PUT MY 5 YEAR OLD IN THE VEHICLE. I CANNOT KEEP THE STEERING STRAIGHT. WHAT IS HYUNDAI DOING TO FIX THIS ISSUE? I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AT APPROXIMATELY 75 MILES PER HOUR ON A SUNNY DAY, AND I SUDDENLY HEARD THIS HUGE "POP" LIKE SOMEONE HAD JUST SHOT MY WINDOW OUT WITH A GUN. AT FIRST I THOUGHT I BLEW OUT A TIRE BUT GOT OUT AND CHECKED AND THERE WAS NO DAMAGE THERE. I KEPT HEARING WIND WHOOSHING THROUGH THE CABIN OF MY CAR, AND FINALLY I OPENED UP THE FABRIC COVER OF MY SUNROOF AND MY SUNROOF WAS COMPLETELY BLOWN OUT! THERE WERE NO TRUCKS WITH ROCKS OR ANY OTHER MEANS BY WHICH THIS SUNROOF COULD HAVE SHATTERED LIKE THAT. IT JUST PLAIN BLEW OUT ON ITS OWN. I GOT HOME AND CHECKED ON MY COMPUTER AND SURE ENOUGH, THERE WERE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ABOUT HYUNDAIS THAT HAD DEFECTIVE SUNROOFS THAT JUST BLEW OUT FOR NO REASON.

FAILURE TO ACCELERATE FROM A FULL STOP WITH ACCELERATOR PETAL PARTIALLY OR FULLY DEPRESSED. ON JULY 11, 2014 AUTOMOBILE WAS LEFT WITH DEALER FOR WARRANTY REPAIR OF THE MALFUNCTION AND HAS REMAINED THERE AS OF THIS DATE, AUGUST 3, 2014, WITH NO REPAIRS HAVING BEEN DONE. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS MALFUNCTION AND COULD QUITE EASILY RESULT IN AN ACCIDENT WITH SERIOUS SAFETY CONSEQUENCES. THIS IS A NEW VEHICLE WITH ONLY 1100 MILES ON IT. I WAS DRIVING EAST TO AN AVE, BUT ANOTHER DRIVER HIT ME ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. WHEN THE DRIVER HIT MY CAR WE SPINNED HALF WAY. THE PASSENGER SITTING ON THE PASSENGER SIDE GOT HURT ON HER ARM. THE ACCIDENT WAS SORT OF BIG. THE CAR DOOR ON PASSENGER SIDE AND THE DOOR BEHIND THE PASSENGER WAS DENTED IN. GETTING HIT THAT HARD SHOULD HAVE DEPLOYED THE AIRBAG AND THE HYUNDAI EMERGENCY CALLING SYSTEM. HOWEVER NONE OF THEM WERE WORKING WHEN THE CAR WAS HIT. ACCORDING TO HYUNDAI THEY HAVE MORE AIRBAGS THAN ANY OTHER COMPANIES BUT EVEN THOUGH THEY HAVE MORE, THE AIRBAG DIDNT DEPLOY WHICH MADE THE PASSENGERS ARM GET HURT. I PURCHASED A NEW CAR, ON FEB.1, 2014. THE MALFUNCTION LAMP ON THE DASHBOARD WAS LIGHTED UP IN 1 MONTH. MY CAR WAS REPAIRED FROM MY DEALERSHIP SEVERAL TIMES BUT THE PROBLEMS ARE NOT CLEARED YET.
