I was driving home from work and got about 5 miles and I see smoke and pulled over. I had it towed to repair shop and they said they found a hole in my engine block and a broken connecting rod. They told me I should take it to KIA as I only have 132,179 miles and that repair should be under warranty. I took it to Kia and they denied the repair due to a class action lawsuit and I did not qualify for that as a recall was missed KSDS update. I bought the car used in late 2019 and the last ower has since died. I was never notified of these updates.

First, my engine and oil light went on. Second, there began a loud prominent engine knock. I had it serviced for an oil change and after the oil change, the knock persisted and my car began to stall. Third, I took it to Midas for a diagnostic and they told me my engine is about to fail, that this is typical of Kia Soul engines, they said there are metal pieces of broken pistons in my engine and that my car will soon break down and to "pray" it doesn't happen on the road. I then drove my Kia Soul to secure a rental vehicle, but on the way my engine died in the middle of a busy intersection and I had just enough time to pull it to the bike path on the side of the road, passenger side still in the road. I then had it towed to a repair shop and paid for a second diagnostic, which aligned with the first diagnostic from Midas. I then received a recall letter from Kia Manufacturer that my specific vehicle had a safety recall from the NHSTA and to bring my car to the nearest Kia dealership for immediate repair, free of cost to me, upto engine replacement. I had my Kia Soul towed to Kia of New Port Richey, Florida and explained the recall letter. They have since done nothing in a week and said that I needed to have the first recall addressed to have this recall repair complete. Then, they said I needed to have my car registered to complete the repair. Then, they said I need to provide a maintenance record to complete this recall repair, and failure to do so will result in Kia refusing to complete my engine repair, in accordance with their recall letter I received. Therefore, I contacted the NHSTA.

Problems with our 2013 Kia Soul! started [XXX] @ 78,388 miles. We took the car to Kia Country in Manteca for an oil change, when leaving the dealership white plumes of smoke where coming out of the exhaust. Took the car back to the dealership who told us not to worry about it, drive it on the freeway to burn it off. Returned to the dealership 4-7-21 @ 80,414 miles smoke is still coming out of the exhaust, Kia performed an oil consumption test, we were told to come back in a couple of months or 3,500 miles to check on the vehicle. 6-4-21 @ 81,737 miles took the car back for inspection, engine oil checked out ok, they couldn't find any issues. [XXX] @ 91,239 miles took the car to Kia Dublin, blue smoke was coming out of exhaust and car won't start. Tech performed tests they recommended to drive the car and wait for a check engine light to be active. They can't open a tech line if there is nothing wrong with the car and they can't duplicate the concern. [XXX] @ 124,770 miles took the car back to Kia Dublin, the car is shutting off at stop lights or at idle, won't go over 40 miles an hour. After being at the dealership for 4 days, spoke to Will on 4-16-25 states the engine needs to be replaced due to the connecting rods and pistons creating an engine failure, there is also an oil leak. There is a recall for the smaller 1.6L engine but not for our 2.0L engine, even though the issues are exactly the same. Will recommended calling Kia Customer Care for help. I called Kia Customer Care 4-17-25 and was given a case number. I have been dealing with both Kia Customer Care and Kia Dublin for over 5 weeks and no one wants to own up to selling us a defective engine or give us a replacement. I have called almost everyday and I am given a different story, meanwhile the car sits on the lot at the dealership. My daughter is without a car and we are struggling to get her to work, we have not been offered a loaner car, as the car has not been approved for an engine replacement. There is a loud clicking in the steering wheel and the car is all over the place while driving. I was told by three mechanics that it is the steering coupler gear. I could lose control which would be putting others life at risk as well as myself. I was told this my be a recall. I need help. This is a SAFETY RISK AND NEEDS ATTENTION.

The steering wheel has a knocking in it. KIA has issued TSB CHA074 for the problem, the deterioration of the MDPS Flexible Steering Coupler. The bulletin covers my 2013 KIA Soul. It's annoying and sounds dangerous.

The contact owned a 2013 Kia Soul. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked at night, the neighbor knocked on the door approximately 4:00 AM in the morning to alert the contact that the vehicle was on fire in the driveway. The contact went outside and saw that the front of the vehicle was on fire. The contact believed that the fire had started in the engine compartment. The contact stated that the neighbor was already attempting to put out the fire with a gardening hose. The contact and the neighbor attempted to extinguish the fire; however, the flames spread throughout the vehicle and destroyed the vehicle. The Fire Department was called and was able to extinguish the fire. The contact stated that the vehicle was considered totaled due to the extensive damages on the outside and inside the vehicle. The contact also stated that the fire caused damages to the front of another vehicle that was parked nearby. A Police report was filed but the report number was not provided to the contact. There were no injuries sustained, and no medical attention was needed. The contact stated that the vehicle remained in the driveway. The contact was notified by the insurance provider that there was possibly a recall listed on the vehicle for a similar failure and to report the failure to the NHTSA Hotline. The contact referenced NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V652000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic). The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The 2013 Kia Soul has been subject to recalls related to the gear shift, with some models potentially experiencing issues that could cause the vehicle to roll away due to a gear shift defect. Some 2013 Kia Souls may have a gear shift defect that could cause the vehicle to roll away unexpectedly. An engine that is hesitating to accelerate is most likely dealing with a fuel/air mixture that is too lean. Engine's that are running inefficiently will begin to show signs like hesitation which will only become worse over time.

my car has been at the Kia service center since October 5, 2024, on a manufacturer recall, and since then another recall has been added, on the day the service center received my car I was number 11, in line with the recall vehicles, I have been put in hardship because kia has not honored the recall in ample time, lost of job opportunities , stress, getting back and forth with appointments, I strongly feel as though I have been discriminated against, I receive no updated status about my car, and strongly feel, that my recall is being tossed to the side, I have contacted the NHTSB about this matter, loss wages, loss job opportunities, and stress have been placed on me from the kia service center in Trussville Alabama, Kia have failed to comply with the recall and have had ample time to remedies the problem.

I was sent to this form by live chat to report that a recall for my car has not been remedied in a timely manner. I received notification in November of 2023 that it was advised to not use my car and to park away from buildings. It has been 7 months and it still shows as not updated on this website and the official Kia one.

The HECU fuse issue (recall SC284) was announced in September 2023 - and there is still no remedy issued as of April 2024. This marks almost 7 months where my vehicle has been a potential fire hazard, risking life and property. The marked delay is unacceptable and unsafe.

The vehicle was taken to the dealer who had upgraded the catalytic overheating protection engine control unit logic as stated in the remedy but had not replaced the catalytic converter despite DTC code. The dealer stated that the catalytic converter would not be replaced under the recall. The vehicle had not received additional repairs. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was taken to a dealer but no cause for the failure was found. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle, the steering wheel seized. Due to the failure, the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic; however, the vehicle returned to normal operation while in the possession of the independent mechanic and was returned to the contact. My 2013 Kia Soul has been recalled for HYDRAULIC ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT (HECU) which can RESULT IN AN ENGINE COMPARTMENT FIRE WHILE DRIVING OR PARKED since September of 2023. I was advised to park my vehicle away from the house and wait for a solution from Kia. It has been 6 months that I have been unable to drive my vehicle. Kia states that a remedy is *still* unavailable.

I received the recall information in the mail. Found out that there is no remedy for it yet. Have been waiting since November 2023. I have not had any problem with the car but don't want to drive it or have it near my house if it can catch fire. I have it parked with the battery disconnected cause I don't want the fire to happen.

WHEN IN MOTION THE CAR WOULD SPUTTER AND STRUGGLE TO REACH SPEEDS OVER 30 MPH. MULTIPLE TIMES THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WOULD COME ON AND READ AS A KNOCK SENSOR. REPLACED THE KNOCK SENSOR BUT THE CAR CONTINUED TO STRUGGLE TO ACCELERATE AND WOULD SPUTTER. TOOK IT TO KIA AND THEY DISCOVERED IT WAS THE HYDRAULIC MODULE. THEY FIXED IT COSTING ME $1500. I DISCOVERED THE OTHER DAY THAT MY CAR HAS A RECALL FOR ANOTHER ISSUE BUT SAW THE CAR HAS AN INVESTIGATION ON GOING ABOUT THIS ISSUE.

The contact owns a 2013 Kia Soul. The contact stated while driving 35 MPH, the vehicle started making abnormally loud sounds and lost motive power. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact was able to pull over to the side of the road. The contact resumed driving; however, the failure persisted. The contact was able to drive to the residence and noticed that the oil level was low. The contact added oil to the vehicle and started the vehicle. The contact stated upon checking the oil level again, there was no oil left in the vehicle. The contact then inspected the ground, but there was no oil on the ground. The contact researched the failure online. The contact then inspected the exhaust pipe and noticed that the oil had leaked into the exhaust pipe. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the engine had failed and needed to be replaced. The dealer informed the contact that the repair was not covered under NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V120000 (Engine, Engine and Engine Cooling) because the failure was not related to the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 140,000. The VIN was not available.

I had and oil change refused because the dip stick showed no oil. I had to add an additional oil of 2.5 quarts to get the oil change done at another service center. there was no visible oil leeks. The 1.6L engine burned thru the oil in 3000 miles. my odometer reads 96361 miles.

On [XXX] Jim Ellis Kia of Kennesaw performed Recall SC284 on my 2013 Kia Soul (VIN: [XXX] ), replacing the HECU fuse. The next day, [XXX], the vehicle lost acceleration while driving, produced a muffled engine sound, and became barely able to move forward, creating an unsafe driving condition. At no point did the check engine light illuminate, even though the vehicle was experiencing severe drivability issues. Prior to the recall, Kia’s own diagnostic (July 19, 2025) showed no catalytic converter or battery issues. An independent AAA diagnostic performed after the failure (July 21, 2025) ruled out pre-existing converter damage and linked the problem to the recall work. Despite this, the dealership denied responsibility and issued an unsupported estimate of $4,951.41 for catalytic converter replacement. The absence of a check engine light raises concerns that the recall work may have compromised the vehicle’s OBD-II diagnostic system, preventing detection of a safety defect. Furthermore, the evidence suggests that damage occurred to the catalytic converter while the vehicle was in Kia’s possession or as a direct result of the faulty installation of the recall fuse. This incident involves a safety risk, improper recall repair, and potential violation of federal recall law. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate the adequacy of Recall SC284 installation procedures and Kia’s handling of this case. The engine caught on fire. The car cut off while I was driving. It began to smoke and then I saw the flames. My safety was put at risk because I was driving the car. The car is burned from the front bumper to the backseat. The car has not been inspected because of how bad it is burned. There were not any warnings of the failure before it happened.

i WAS NOIFIED LAST YEAR SEPTEMBER 2023 OF A DANGEROUS RECALL THAT COULD CATCH THE VEHICLE ON FIRE. NOW. 9 MONTHS LATER KIA HAS NOT PROVIDED ME WITH A REPAIR FOR MY SAFTY.

While driving, the lights flickered, then car shut down in the middle of the road. I could smell something burning. No warning lights came on. Had to tow the car. Found out there was no oil in the engine, when I should have had 2000 miles to go until next oil change. Engine seized. Apparently there is an oil consumption recall on almost all other kias for oil consumption EXCEPT my car

On 1-16-25 I was involved in a vehicle crash in which the airbags "did not" deploy. The vehicle is at my home, the brakes locked also. I have photos. No inspection to my knowledge. Yet. Insurance claim was filed. I do not have a police report yet. No warning lights or sensors.

I was involved in a car accident where a truck pulled out in front of me causing me to hit him in his side with the front passenger side of my car resulting in the car to roll two times. As a result of the airbags not deploying the windshield came into the car causing lacerations to the face of the passenger and as the car was rolling his right arm was out of the window causing him to have to have staples put in his arm and the skin on his hand was gone both driver and passenger had concussions and I feel that these injuries could have been avoided if the airbags (front and side ) were to deploy !

I WAS SITTING AT A STOP LIGHT AND WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN, I PROCEEDED TO DRIVE ABOUT 20 MPH. ABOUT 30 SECONDS LATER, I RECEIVED A HEAVY PUNCH IN MY CHEST AND STOMACH AREA. I YELLED, "WHAT IS GOING ON". I THEN NOTICED THE AIRBAG HAD DEPLOYED AND EXPLODED CAUSING MULTIPLE BURNS AND BRUISES TO MY ARMS, CHEST, CLAVICLE AND STOMACH AREAS. I WAS A LITTLE DISORIENTED AFTER THIS BUT MANAGED TO GET OUT OF THE CAR. ONCE OUT OF THE CAR, I NOTICED I HAD REAR-ENDED THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME AND THE DRIVER WAS TELLING ME TO GET AWAY FROM THE CAR SINCE MY CAR WAS SMOKING. IT WAS 95 DEGREES THAT DAY AND I DID NOT HAVE THE AIR CONDITIONING ON. THIS WAS A DEFECTIVE AIRBAG.

AS I WAS DRIVING ACROSS, WITH A GREEN LIGHT, A SIX LANE (PLUS ADDITIONAL TURN LANES) CITY STREET AT PERHAPS 25 MPH, A DRIVER RUNNING HER RED LIGHT STRUCK MY VEHICLE BROAD SIDE ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. I DO NOT KNOW HER SPEED BUT CAN SAY THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG AND BOTH FRONT AIRBAGS DEPLOYED, THE SPEED LIMIT ON THE ROAD SHE WAS TRAVELING IS 40 MPH. THE REASON FOR THIS REPORT IS THAT THE IMPACT CAUSED THE REAR VIEW MIRROR TO SNAP OFF AND BECOME AN AIRBORNE MENACE. THE MIRROR GAVE ME A LARGE LUMP JUST ABOVE MY RIGHT EYE AND CAUSED A CONTUSION ON MY RIGHT CHEEK THAT AFTER BLEEDING PROFUSELY NEEDED FOUR STITCHES TO CLOSE. I WAS LUCKY. THE JAGGED EDGE THAT CUT MY CHEEK WAS ONLY A COUPLE INCHES FROM MY EYE AND POTENTIAL BLINDNESS. THE MIRROR'S (MODEL ZTVHL3) PHYSICAL CONNECTION FAILED AT THE JUNCTURE OF THE BALL JOINT AGAINST THE WINDSHIELD AND THE METAL CONDUIT AT THE REAR OF THE MIRROR. THE METAL WAS UNABLE TO WITHSTAND THE FORCE OF THE SIDE IMPACT AND TORQUED OUT OF SHAPE. THE WIRING ALONE WAS UNABLE TO HOLD THE MIRROR IN PLACE, AND THE MIRROR WENT AIRBORNE.

The car stared to lose all power and sputtering. Then the check engine light started coming on then it would go off. This has been going on for about 4 months. One day it would run on then next day not good at all. I changed the plugs and coils and it ran a lil better for about 2 days. Not every time I put it in reverse I started cutting out and now I don't the it can idle at all. It's a 4 cylinder feeling like a beefed up v8 trying to ideal. I looked at my coils and it looked like it had been on fire I have put every bit of money I could to try to fix it. I just had tires put on too. I pay for full coverage and a car payment. I pay aot for this car every month yet I can't drive it. I take care of my father that is terminal and on hospice, plus I'm disabled myself on a fixed income. This car is all I have and it my only car for my father as well. Help pleas

the catalytic converter is damaged, soon the engin could fail, and there is a recall on the catalytic converter for this car type and model and year. it has all the symptoms that the converter is damaged, tried to liquid to fix it it did not work It is available for inspection no risk yet, inspected and problem was confirmed engine light is on

It all started when I thought I received bad gas a couple of months ago after filling my tank up with regular gas from a Speedway , It didn't start right away, and that never happened and then it continued to Be hard to accelerate, as I drove it. That has happened on 2 other occasions since that incident a couple of months ago I would push the pedal to the floor and the RPM would not move it stayed on zero. The accelerator was resistant to move, but I made it home. Spoke a mechanic friend, who's done body work on my car, and thought, as I did, I had bad gas.. suggested, I get the fuel tank flushed and filled, which I did at Jiffy Lube. I've since put HEET in on every fill up, and used premium gas. Happened again yesterday am on my way home from work about about 830am. I was stopped at a light, it cut off, I put it in park, and cut it back on, but it was hard to accelerate. I made it home, but now extremely worried, given all the spontaneous fires, and engine problems. It's my only source of transportation, so I'm in desperate need of help.

I HAVE A 2013 KIA SOUL, I HAVE BEEN PAYING MY LOAN ON THIS CAR SINCE 2016. I TAKE CARE OF IT AND ROUTINELY DO OIL CHANGES ON IT AND UP KEEP. OVER THE COURSE OF THE PAST FOUR MONTHS I NOTICED MY CAR ACTING UP, I HAD TAKEN IT TO SHOPS AND NONE COULD FIND A PROBLEM. MY CAR WAS NOT STARTING UP, I WOULD HAVE TO JIGGLE MY WHEEL TO MIRACULOUSLY GET THE VEHICLE TO START. THEN ONCE IT STARTED IT WOULDN'T ACCELERATE AND WOULD SLOWLY GO INTO NEUTRAL. PROGRESSIVELY IT GOT WORSE, MY CAR WOULD TURN OFF IF I WAS PARKED OR AT A STOP SIGN OR WHEN GOING 20MPH OR LESS. ON 12/24/2020 AS I WAS DRIVING MY CAR ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY I SAW SMOKE COMING FROM MY CAR. I TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF AND THEN AS I RESTARTED IT, THERE WAS A LOUD CLANGING AND THE CAR WAS JUMPING. WHY WOULD I PAY WHEN IT'S A RECALL. HE STATED MY CAR IS NOT COVERED ON THE RECALL BECAUSE MY CAR HAS HIGH MILES. TOLD HIM THAT'S ABSURD IT IS KIA RESPONSIBILITY TO TAKE OWNERSHIP FOR FAULTY ENGINES AND EQUIPMENT. THAT'S WHEN I ALSO TOLD HIM THE STEERING COLUMN IS CRANKING AGAIN. MY VEHICLE SUFFERED NHTSA RECALL 19V120. KIA DEALERSHIP REFUSED TO INSPECT FOR ANY ENGINE DAMAGE THAT MAY HAVE OCCURRED. THEY JUST REPLACED THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER AND DID NOT INSPECT FOR ANY ENGINE DAMAGE. THE VEHICLE SUFFERED FROM CATALYTIC CONVERTER ISSUES FOR OVER 3 YEARS AND THEY REFUSED TO SAY ANYTHING WAS WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. ACCORDING TO THE RECALL, IF THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER WAS DAMAGED IT MAY CAUSE ENGINE DAMAGE. WELL THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER WAS DAMAGED AND THEY REFUSE TO DO A PROPER INSPECTION ON THE VEHICLE. I NEED THEM TO FULLY DIAGNOSE THE VEHICLE AND INSPECT THE ENGINE. CORPORATE HAS REFUSED TO WORK WITH ME RESOLVING THIS MATTER. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT IT IS IMPOSSIBLE FOR THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER TO CAUSE ANY ENGINE DAMAGE.

I got a recall letter in the mail too late! (October 2021) I received recall letter and called my local dealership 5 minutes after reading it & was told to put the letter in my glove box until my car completely broke down December 8th 2021. It was towed and was told it needed spark plugs & an oil chance which I knew wasn't the case. It sat at that dealership for two months with every service advisor giving me the run around and come to find out I'm not the first person. Had it towed to a different location where it sat for another two months where I had to fight to get a "goodwill" engine which we still paid almost $4,000 when it should of been for free! I got my car back March 31st 2022 and now my car had failed again! Am being told it's something different now & the STEALERSHIP wants another $1,500 from me! My child has had to miss dr appointments due to this and I've jad enough! Kia customer service is incompetent and Kia dealership service departments are as well! Due to the fact my engine should of been replaced for free like everyone else but someone decided to send me the recall letter LATE!

THE VEHICLE STALLED WHILE DRIVING AND THE ENGINE LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE CAR WOULD CRANK AFTER SITTING FOR A MOMENT AND THEN THE CAR WOULD STALL AGAIN WHILE DRIVING. THIS WAS VERY DANGEROUS BEING THAT THIS WAS IN TRAFFIC. IN FEBRUARY, THE CAR WAS STALLING AND WHEN TOWED TO THE DEALER THEY DIAGNOSED AS HAVING BAD GAS AND TO RUN THE GAS OUT OF THE TANK. THE ENGINE LIGHT DID NOT COME ON AT THIS TIME. THE CHARGE WAS $168.00 TO DIAGNOSE. THE SAME PROBLEM IS OCCURRING A MONTH LATER AND THE DEALERSHIP RESPONDED THAT IN ORDER TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM IT WILL COST $420. THIS APPEARS TO BE AN EXCESSIVE AMOUNT JUST TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM AND DOES NOT INCLUDE ANY REPAIRS. BEING THAT THE ENGINE IS STALLING THIS AND THE SERIOUSNESS OF THIS, I WOULD LIKE TO BRING THIS TO THIS AGENCY'S ATTENTION. I AM A SENIOR CITIZEN AND WOULD HATE TO THINK THAT THE DEALERSHIP IS TRYING TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF A WOMAN WHO IS A SENIOR CITIZEN. NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID 19V120000: THE SC176 RECALL ON MY CAR WAS REPAIRED MAY 30, 2019. EARLIER THIS YEAR MY CAR BEGAN SHOWING THE SIGNS OF THE FURTHER DAMAGE NOTED IN THE RECALL DETAILS. IN APRIL 2020 MY CAR RANDOMLY STALLED WHEN IN MOTION ON A CITY STREET AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I WAS ABLE TO COAST OFF THE ROAD AND EVENTUALLY START THE CAR AGAIN. THE PANDEMIC PREVENTED ME FROM HAVING IT SERVICED AT MY KIA DEALERSHIP OR ELSEWHERE. SINCE APRIL, THIS HAS OCCURRED FIVE TIMES, BOTH ON CITY STREETS AND THE HIGHWAY WHILE IN MOTION. THE HIGHWAY EVENT WAS FRIGHTENING AS I WAS IN HEAVY TRAFFIC TRAVELLING AT 60 MPH. MY LOCAL ONE STOP OIL CHANGE RE-OPENED AND I WAS ABLE TO GET AN OIL CHANGE MAY 5, 2020 AT 110,431, THEN AGAIN ON AUGUST 24, 2020 AT 114,121 MILES AT ONE STOP (RECEIPT ATTACHED). A WEEK LATER MY ENGINE OIL PRESSURE WARNING LIGHT CAME ON DESPITE THE RECENT OIL CHANGE. I ADDED OIL, BUT IN TWO WEEKS THE LEVEL IS AGAIN LOW AND I PUT IN 2 QUARTS. I TOOK IT TO THE KIA SERVICE CENTER SEPTEMBER 16, 2020 AT 115,179, AND THE OIL WAS AGAIN LOW AS SHOWN ON THE ATTACHED RECEIPT. KIA SERVICE WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE LOST OIL. ALTHOUGH MY CAR HAD THE REPAIR PERFORMED FOR THE RECALL, I'M AFRAID THE PISTON HAS BEEN DAMAGED, CAUSING THE ENGINE STALLS. MY OIL IS LEAKING OUT SOMEWHERE, SO I FEAR IT MAY BE THE BROKEN CONNECTING ROD THAT HAS PUNCTURED THE ENGINE BLOCK ALLOWING THE ENGINE OIL TO ESCAPE. THE KIA QUOTE FOR THE BRAKE, EXHAUST AND TIRE WORK WAS EXPENSIVE, SO I HAD A FRIEND'S EXPERT MECHANIC DO THE REPAIRS FOR LESS. HE WARNED ME THAT THE OIL WAS LEAKING OUT AND THE ENGINE MAY BLOW AND I'LL NEED A NEW ENGINE, AND STRONGLY SUGGESTED I SELL THE CAR BEFORE THAT OCCURS. I CANNOT, IN GOOD CONSCIENCE, SELL IT KNOWING THE RISK TO A NEW OWNER. I HOPE THIS EXPLANATION WILL LEAD TO KIA REPAIRING MY CAR PROPERLY.

HE REFERRED ME TO THE DEALERSHIP SINCE IT CAN NOT BE FIXED BY THEM (RECALL) WHEN I CONTACTED KIA THEY TOLD ME MY VEHICLE DIDN'T QUALIFY FOR ANY GUARANTEE SINCE IT HAS 130K MILES ON IT NOT RECALL COVER, AND I HAVE TO PAY TO FIX IT AS MY OWN EXPENSE BUT AS I READ IT SHOULD BE COVERED, I'M NOT SURE WHY MY CAR DOESN'T QUALIFY. Paint is bubbling up and peeling off everywhere on my car

Spontaneous paint loss down to the bare metal. Yesterday I noticed a large fist-sized paint loss on top of my car above the drivers side. There is no damage to the area just the paint loss out of nowhere. I also noticed a couple of tiny paint losses somewhat near the large loss, which are about 1/2 the size of a peppercorn. I'm confident they will get larger.

AS MY WIFE WAS ENTERING EASTBOUND US EXPRESSWAY 83 (INTERSTATE 2) JUST WEST OF MINNESOTA ROAD (APPROXIMATE TIME 5:15 PM) THE HOOD FLEW OPEN AND DAMAGED THE WINDSHIELD AND HOOD. THE CAR WAS SAFELY PULLED OVER BUT THE HOOD WAS SO DAMAGED THAT IT HAD TO BE REMOVED IN ORDER TO DRIVE THE CAR HOME. THE CAR HAD ONLY BEEN DRIVEN APPROXIMATELY 1.5 MILES FROM THE HOUSE ON THE FRONTAGE ROAD BEFORE GETTING ONTO THE EXPRESSWAY WHEN THE INCIDENT OCCURRED. SPEED WAS ACCELERATING TO HIGHWAY SPEEDS OF 60 MPH BUT NOT YET AT 60 MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS JUST GETTING ON THE OVERPASS AFTER ENTERING THE EXPRESSWAY AND WAS TRAVELING IN A STRAIGHT PATH ON THE ENTRY LANE BARELY MERGING INTO TRAFFIC BEFORE NEEDING TO PULL OVER ON THE BENTSEN PALM ROAD OVERPASS.. THE HOOD HAD NOT BEEN OPENED FOR AT LEAST 2 WEEKS WHEN I LAST FILLED THE WINDSHIELD WASHER RESERVOIR. IT HAS BEEN DRIVEN ON THE EXPRESSWAY AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS DURING THE LAST TWO WEEKS ON A DAILY BASIS. IT APPEARS THAT THE HOOD LATCH IS BROKEN. THE LATCH IS TOO FAR TO THE RIGHT AND DOESN'T MOVE BACK INTO A POSITION TO ALLOW THE HOOD TO CLOSE.

My complaint has to do with the current recall on my vehicle. It's not driveable as it's safety hazard - engine quits at stops no rpm's panel lights (ABS, battery (brand new as mechanic I went to put on diagnostic machine and that's only thing that showed) oil light and malfunction indicator illuminate and then everything goes off including my headlights (I was driving early evening). Called local dealer (I never received notice but by chance looked up to see if any recalls and saw it on your website. they rudely said "you know as much as we do about when we'll get parts to repair recall". Clearly it's shorting out and I'm not going to endanger myself or others but what do I do? I've have a number of medical issues and am missing necessary appointments. How much longer is it expected before recall repairs can be made? I do Thank you for all you do. I am grateful an entity exists that look out for us. Least I don't feel totally lost.

In November, the platform through whom I rent my Kia Soul delisted the vehicle due to a safety recall. Within a week, I received a notice for Recall 23V652. The issue is that the car can experience an electrical short circuit, which can result in an engine compartment fire while driving or parked. The notice helpfully pointed out that an engine fire can increase the risk of injury, but that no fix is in sight, yet. I can no longer support my son and his education (I was using the money from renting out the vehicle to pay for tuition), I cannot even drive the car to get another part time job,and despite calls and letters, nothing is being done to fix the car. It's been 4 months without transportation. To add insult to Russian-Roulette injury, ANOTHER notice arrived from Kia advising that thieves have an easy time breaking into a stealing certain vehicles (Offer QHJWT) and if I could just drive my car and get someone to agree to have the ticking flame-bomb in their parking lot, they would fix this - at no charge. I need the car to work. I need the fix. If not, I need my money returned. I continue to make payments on a car I cannot drive. I will also file a complaint with the FTC. Note: when I first filed, I did not smell a burning smell. I got that smell on a quick 4 minute trip to the store, so do not drive the car at all.

I bought my KIA SOUL 2013 last year after saving for it bc I needed something more dependable and love it but I don't feel safe anymore bc of the possibility of an engine explosion. There's always been something funky about the radio coming when I start it but now there's a caution light staying on and the oil and everything else checks out. Also the gas lever starts blinking when I've just filled it up. What I don't get is how these people can play God with people's lives? I need a dependable vehicle to be able to go help my granddaughter needs me. At first the radio issue I blamed on me just being PARONOID thankfully I know there is something major going on.I don't let my fur baby go with me anymore, not risking hi life, it's bad enough I have worry about myself and it's just wrong.

2013 Kia Soul randomly turns off. It has 101K miles. No dash or warning lights come on before this happens. Then after it turns off an oil can icon, battery icon and a steering wheel icon with exclamation come on the dash and the air is still on, so its on battery power. I have to put it in park, turn off the ignition and AC and restart the car. The second issue that is happening. It is also randomly struggling to start up. I have bought a new battery thinking it was the issue. Still it randomly has startup cranking issues. The random engine power off has happened while slowing down to go over a speed bump, while idling at a stop lights and while i tried to engage the reverse to backup. It is also randomly struggling to start after these engine power off events. Never consistent. Sometimes it starts right up after the power off and others it takes several cranks before it starts. I have to put it in park, turn off the ignition and restart it. I drive 5 miles to work and luckily don't need to go over 35MPH to get there, but I shudder to think what could have happened if i was going faster and the engine cuts off. I have had it diagnosed at a non Kia reputable mechanic repair shop, where they tested the battery and is shows to be good(Should since it is new). Since it sounded like an electrical issues they tested and cleaned the power and ground cables. They attached the scan tool and checked all the modules on the vehicle and no diagnostics trouble codes were stored in any of the modules. But the problem continues. I have scheduled another diagnostic with a Kia dealership Sept 29, 2022 to see if they can figure this out. This is very dangerous as it happens randomly and disables the car. Like i mentioned I shudder to think what could of happened the times I was on the highway driving at 60-65MPH and the only way to get it turn back on is to put it in park and restart it and hope it starts right away before an accident occurs. ENGINE LITE WHEN ON. GOT A RECALL NOTICE. HAD RECALL PERFORMED. RECALL STATE THAT IF DAMAGE WAS DONE TO CATALYTIC CONVERTER IT WOULD ALSO BE REPLACED. A FEW MONTHS LATER AFTER RECALL PERFORMED ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON SAYING CATALYTIC CONVERTER PROBLEM. THEY SAY I NEED TO PAY $2000 TO GET FIXED. I BELIEVE IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN REPLACED AT TIME OF RECALL.

VEHICLE BEGAN MAKING A NOISE AND SEEMINGLY NOT GETTING GAS ANYMORE AND CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC.. I TRIED STARTING IT AND IT WOULD NOT START UNLESS I PUMPED THE GAS PETAL, WHICH SENT PLUMES OF WHITE SMOKE AND AWFULLY STRONG GAS ODOR. THE CAR DID THIS ALL THE WAY HOME. I CALLED A MECHANIC AND HE DID A DIAGNOSTIC TEST ON IT AND SAID IT WAS CAUSED BY ONE OF TWO SENSORS. THREE MECHANICS SAID THE VEHICLE COULD HAVE CAUGHT ON FIRE AND POSSIBLY EXPLODED WHILE I WAS DRIVING IT BECAUSE IT WAS DUMPING FUEL ON THE ENGINE. THEY SAID HAD THERE BEEN ONE SPARK FROM THE SPARK PLUGS THAT MY CAR WOULD HAVE MOST LIKELY BLOWN UP. I AM SCARED TO DRIVE THIS CAR NOW AND I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO AT THIS POINT.

ON APRIL 3RD, 2018 AFTER STOPPING AT A STOP SIGN MY CAR WOULD NOT MOVE WHEN STEPPING ON THE GAS PEDAL. THEN IT STALLED OUT AND WOULD NOT START. HAD HELP COME WITHIN 30 MINUTES AND WHEN WE TRIED TO START IT AGAIN, IT DID START AND I DROVE IT HOME. NO ENGINE LIGHTS CAME ON. MY HUSBAND CHANGED THE CRANK SHAFT SENSOR AFTER RESEARCHING ONLINE FOR THE PROBLEM AND TALKING TO MECHANICS ABOUT IT. RAN FINE UNTIL MAY 1, 2018, AS I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY IN CRUISE CONTROL DOING 65MPH MY CAR SUDDENLY STARTED SLOWING DOWN. I HAD NO TROUBLE LIGHTS ON. I PULLED OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE FREEWAY AND PUT IT IN PARK. WHEN I REVVED THE GAS PEDAL THE RPMS WENT UP. I SAT FOR A MINUTE AND THEN PUT IT IN DRIVE AND WHEN I RELEASED THE BRAKE IT STARTED TO ROLL FORWARD. I WAITED FOR THE TRAFFIC TO CLEAR THEN GAVE IT GAS AND I WAS ABLE TO GET BACK ON THE FREEWAY AND BROUGHT THE CAR HOME SAFELY. WE HAVE BEEN TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHAT IS WRONG BUT WITH NO TROUBLE LIGHTS COMING ON THE DASH AND BEING UNABLE TO HAVE A SCANNER CHECK IT D/T NO TROUBLE LIGHTS COMING ON WE ARE CLUELESS. VERY SOON AFTER WE BOUGHT THE CAR NEW, WE DROVE TO CA. DURING THE DRIVE, I NOTICED THAT WHEN I WOULD SLOW TO TURN (LIKE INTO A DRIVE OR PARKING LOT) THE CAR WOULD ACT LIKE IT HAD A VAPOR LOCK- STARVED FOR FUEL. I WOULD PUMP THE GAS A COUPLE OF TIMES AND THE CAR WOULD RESPOND (SOMETIMES VIOLENTLY). THIS WAS AT LESS THAN 6K MILES. AFTER TRIPS TO THE DEALER, WHO RODE ALONG WITH ME AND KEPT THE CAR OVERNIGHT FOR THE MANAGER TO DRIVE, THEY RETURNED IT SAYING THEY COULD NOT REPLICATE MY ISSUE. SO, NOTHING COULD BE DONE. TWO SUCH COMPLAINTS AND I'M 30K MILES FURTHER ALONG WITH THE ISSUE STILL PRESENT. THIS IS A DEFINITE SAFETY ISSUE!

While driving my 2013 Kia Soul, it has turned off while I was sitting still several times this month. The RPM gauge has stopped working and than my vehicle would not drive, actually it was driving very slow and not getting enough power to go the normal speed. Also now my cruise control does not come on any longer. I took my vehicle to a Kia dealer, where they claimed that they could fix it, but than after I paid over $2000, they stated that they did not have the parts to fix my vehicle.

Car wasn’t always turning over right away. When it would, sluggish acceleration meaning gas pedal to floor and slow acceleration. Could have caused major accident when crossing traffic or joining traffic. Car turned off when at busy intersection twice when idling. Could have caused to be rear ended. Auto shop cleaned terminal 6. Stated if happens again, go to Kia to have board replaced

My 2013 Kia Soul 1.6L is currently displaying a check engine light. My vehicle has very strong smelling exhaust, engine knocking, sluggish acceleration, and reduced fuel mileage. This has been going on for about a year. I have a diagnostic code reader and it returns the error code P0420, which indicates a faulty catalytic converter, which could cause engine damage. There is a recall for the catalytic converter for my year and engine type. I received a letter in the mail regarding this recall. The link to the letter: [XXX] However, when I enter my VIN at the KIA owners portal this recall does not come up. I have contacted my local Kia Dealership (Johnson City KIA) and they act like they have no idea what I am talking about. I have called Kia customer care center and they refused to help, saying that the recalls are "VIN specific". That's ridiculous. The first issue took place in September 2022 when someone tried to steal the catalytic converter off of my car, I took it in to be replaced. Shortly after I started having engine issues, the engine light start flashing numerous times over a few week span and I had taken it into the Waikem (now Diehl) dealership in Massillon, and first they thought it was the spark plugs and replaced those, then had the same issue less than a week later, and then said the engine seized up and needed replaced. I was without my car for a total of over two months altogether, because then after I had it replaced, I had the same issue again, a week later and it was the ignition coils that needed replaced. This was right before Christmas in December 2022. After about two months. I began having issues again. It was one EVAP issue after another with the check engine light on again many times. I took it in, had the purge valve replaced, then a month later, had another issue, and had the filters replaced, then a month later, another issue, this time the purge valve again. Then we thought we fixed it last week, but now same issue again. I have had NOTHING but issues with this vehicle since last year and I am very upset, because I have LOST all confidence in my vehicle. It is one issue after another. Now the fuel gauge is flashing that it is empty, even though I filled up my tank yesterday, this has been the same ongoing issue for three weeks now and no resolution, with the check engine light on. I just want a working vehicle. I have children. I NEED it to be safe and reliable.

The manufacturer and local dealer were notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 110,000.

I bought my Kia 1 year ago. When I bought it I was told the transmission needed a software update and that’s why it shifts so hard. Took it to Kia dealer and they installed. Didn’t fix the problem. Took to two other mechanics and had the transmission replaced and it’s still shifting so hard that your whole body jerks forward. Nobody can figure out what is wrong with it. Also smells like something is burning or melting quite often.

Check Engine Light Came on again after KIA BURLINGTON claim repairs was done and closed out repairs. Diagnostic Code is P0420. First Report was filed in 11/22, Service Manager at KIA BURLINGTON REFUSED TO ADDRESS RECALL ISSUES ON MY CAR AND STATES “NOT HER PROBLEM” and she can not help me. Second and Last Complaint was filled on 2/9/23. Service Manager AT KIA BURLINGTON REFUSED TO ADDRESS RECALL ON MY CAR OR GIVE DIAGNOSTIC ON MY CAR. HER COLLEAGUES STATES “SHE TRANSFERRED MY FILES TO GREESBORO KIA, For my home dealership”. I am (zuria) is unclear why. In addition, her other colleague stated “she doesn’t want to help me because I am African American”. However, I did witness her on 2/9/23. Come out and speak to caucasian person, while telling her peer she did not have to speak to me regarding my recall on my KIA SOUL 2013. HER BEHAVIOR AS A SERVICE Manager IS UNACCEPTABLE. BOUGHT THE KIA SOUL NEW IN AUGUST 2012. SINCE NOVEMBER 2014 AT APPROXIMATELY 30K MILES THE CAR HAS DEVELOPED A SUDDEN PRONOUNCED HARD DOWNSHIFT IN THE TRANSMISSION WHEN SLOWING DOWN TO A STOP. IT'S AS THOUGH THE BRAKE WERE ABRUPTLY APPLIED. THIS HAS BEEN A CONSTANT PROBLEM SINCE THEN BEING WORSE IN COLD WEATHER AND MADE DRIVING THE CAR A SAFETY CONCERN. THE CAR HAS BEEN TO THE KIA WESTSIDE DEALER IN KATY TEXAS THREE TIMES THUS FAR. FIRST TIME THEY DEALERSHIP CHECKED BRAKES ONLY DESPITE BEING TOLD IT WAS THE TRANSMISSION THAT WAS SUDDEN HARD DOWNSHIFTING; THEY DID NOT TEST DRIVE THE CAR. THE DEALERSHIP AT THE TIME HAD ANOTHER 2023 KIA SOUL IN WITH SAME PROBLEM AND CHECKING INTERNET FOUND OTHER OWNERS OF KIA'S WITH SAME COMPLAINT. THE SAFETY IN DRIVING THE CAR IS A CONCERN NOW WITH A MIND THAT IT WILL GET WORSE AND PERHAPS LATER CAUSE AN ACCIDENT.

On [XXX], we were driving on [XXX] from Wisconsin into Minnesota to park at MSP airport. Near the state border, we began to hear a clunk sound in the steering column. We chose to park the car at a friend's home near the airport in her garage in case we needed service upon our return from Texas where we travelling to. Prior to driving back to our home from Minneapolis on [XXX] (1.5 hours), we checked with our local mechanic to see if it were safe to drive. He could not diagnose over phone, but suggested coupling issue and that we drive carefully. We made it back home, took car to our local mechanic on 7 October, and thought it would be better to check dealership in Eau Claire, WI (another 30 minute drive). We drove there, slowly, on 18 October, and were told that it was probably the MDPS/Flexible Coupling, but that it would cost us 175 to check, and another 250-300 to replace the 15.00 part. We drove home and had a family emergency out of state and will return now to Wisconsin soon and want to get this fixed as soon as possible. We understand NOW that this is a persistent problem for MANY KIA 2013 Soul and other KIAs and that NHTSA has been supportive to some owners over this matter. We do not object to paying for the repair, but not at price-gouging levels. From what we understand, the inspection needed to check for the flex coupling is not difficult nor time consuming. We are afraid to drive the car for safety sake, but we need the car to drive! Do we have any rights to a free inspection if this is a problem with many KIAs? There were no warning lights and no symptoms prior to the sudden noise and now there is a persistent and regular clunk when the steering wheel is moved. Thank you for any information regarding this issue. Again, no accident and no injuries or results from clunk, but KIA history seems to suggest a potential recall need. LAST YEAR I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO BILLION AUTO IN IOWA CITY (2 HOURS FROM WHERE I LIVE) TO GET MY RECALL SERVICED. AT THIS TIME MY VEHICLE WAS LOSING POWER. WHEN I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP THEY HAD IT IN AND OUT IN 15-20 MINUTES AND THEY SAID ONLY HAD TO DO AN UPDATE. WHICH WAS IRRITATING, CONSIDERING I HAD ASKED THEM TO CHECK MY CATALYTIC CONVERTER AND THEY DIDN'T. BECAUSE PRIOR TO THAT A MECHANIC IN MY TOWN THOUGHT SOMETHING COULD HAVE BEEN WRONG WITH IT. WELL HERE I AM IN 2020, AND I WENT BACK TO THIS DEALERSHIP (THIS IS THE ONLY KIA IN MY AREA). LAST YEAR IN MAY THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THE MDPS COUPLING. THE LETTER ALSO STATED THAT THEY EXTENDED THE WARRANTY TO 100,000 MILES- I'M RIGHT AROUND 96,500 MILES SO I AM STILL COVERED.I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND ASKED TO GET IT FIXED SINCE I WAS EXPERIENCING NOISES IN MY STEERING WHEEL TURNING LEFT OR RIGHT/ AND WHEN VEHICLE IS STOPPED. THEY SAID YES, I SPOKE WITH THE SERVICE ADVISOR AND HE TOLD ME THAT I WOULD BE COVERED. SO I TOOK MY CAR UP THERE THURSDAY THE 28TH TO GET THIS SERVICED. ANOTHER WORKER TOLD ME IN PERSON MY COUPLING WASN'T THAT BAD, AND I COULD ALWAYS COME BACK IN THE FUTURE TO GET IT REPAIRED. HELLO I HAVE A 2013 KIA SOUL WITH ONLY 56,000 MILES ON IT. LAST YEAR AROUND FEBRUARY MY CARS STEERING COLUMN STARTED HAVING THIS AWFUL RATTLING AND KNOCKING SOUND COMING FROM IT. I CAN'T DRIVE OVER 55MPH OR IT GETS REALLY BAD AND LOUD. THIS ALSO CAUSES MY BLINKERS NOT TO WORK PROPERLY ON AND OFF. My whole engine will shake and it turns off randomly when stopped. Also, while car is on it will shake the engine which causes it to shake the whole car. My car will shake so bad I have to put my foot on the break hard for it not to move while the jumping is happening.

I took my 2013 Kia Soul into the dealership in Rockwall because it had a recall. The dealership states that the problem with my particular car is in fact due to the recall. The engine has seized. The dealership is refusing to do any of the necessary repairs and said that they are no longer responsible for the car as we didn't bring it in a more timely manner. The service department is horrible about returning phone calls and has had the Soul since 9/22/2021, they scheduled the repairs, I paid to have it towed to the dealership as they requested. Now they are refusing to pay or do any of the repairs.

I WAS HAVING ISSUES WITH A PRIOR RECALL, CONCERNING THE CATALYTIC CONVERTERS AND OVERHEATING. (POTENTIALLY LEADING TO A STALL / ENGINE FIRE) I TOOK MY CAR TO THE SHOP AND WAS TOLD THEY HAD RAN THE UPGRADE AND MY CAR WAS MECHANICALLY SOUND. THROUGHOUT THE FOLLOWING YEAR, I HAD CONTACTED KIA OVER MY CAR ACTING STRANGE AND NOT ALLOWING ME TO ACCELERATE WHILE GOING DOWN THE ROAD ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. THE CAR MAXED OUT BETWEEN 25-35 MPH ON MAJOR HIGHWAYS 4 TIMES TO DATE. I KEPT TAKING IT IN AND THEY DONE INSPECTIONS, THE CAR APPEARED IN GOOD MECHANICAL SHAPE. EXACTLY 2-3 DAYS AFTER PICKING MY CAR UP, IT STALLED ON ME AGAIN, RESULTING IN 3 SEMI TRUCKS ALMOST COLLIDING INTO ME. MY SPEED WENT FROM 75MPG DOWN TO 30MPH ON A 70MPH INTERSTATE. AFTER THE UPGRADE, MY ENGINE WOULD RANDOMLY START MAKING A CHIRPING SOUND / TICKING SOUND. SEVERAL MISFIRE CODES PRESENTED THEMSELVES THROUGHOUT THIS TIME AND YET NOTHING WAS FOUND STORED IN THE CARS COMPUTER. The contact received notifications of NHTSA Campaign Numbers: 19V120000 (Engine, Engine and Engine Cooling) and NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V652000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC). The contact stated that while her son was driving at 60 MPH, an abnormal sound was heard coming from underneath the vehicle. The contact's son was able to pull over to the side of the road. No warning lights were illuminated. The contact stated her son exited the vehicle and noticed flames were emitting from underneath the vehicle. A passerby pulled over and helped the contact's son move the vehicle. The vehicle extinguished itself. No injuries were reported. The air bags did not deploy. The contact stated that her son called her, and she and the contact's brother went to the site of the accident. The contact's brother checked underneath the vehicle and picked off the pieces that were on the ground. The contact's brother noticed that a rod had detached and gone through the motor, which created a hole in the motor. The vehicle was towed to the dealer. The dealer confirmed that the bearing rod detached and damaged the engine. The dealer contacted the manufacturer and tried to order a new engine. However, KIA declined and advised the dealer not to repair the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to the residence. The vehicle remained at the residence unrepaired. Two months later, the contact sold the vehicle. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and offered no assistance. The insurance company was not notified. The failure mileage was unknown.

The contact owns a 2013 Kia Soul. The contact stated that the ABS, and traction control warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the independent mechanic where it was diagnosed with a faulty wire and was replaced. However, the warning lights illuminated again later on and the vehicle was taken to a different independent mechanic where the failure was not determined or repaired. The warning lights remained illuminated for approximately 5 months. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 45 MPH, the contact depressed the brake pedal and honked the horn, however, the brakes failed to engage. As a result, the contact crashed into a deer on the front passenger's side bumper. A police report was not filed. No injuries were reported. The vehicle was taken to the collision center where the front bumper, passenger side door, passenger side front fender, and hood were replaced. The contact received notification of the NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V652000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulics) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. I'm already aware of the recalls on alot of vehicles including my 2013 KIA SOUL and am aware of a judges ruling on this. How can KIA SOUL play God with peoples lives? I already filed a claim but still not not getting any help until the end of April. I'm a [XXX] woman who is at risk of getting hurt not to mention other people/and or other people close to my vehicle. This is just beyond wrong. I saved for 2 years to get a more dependable vehicles and now have to worry about an explosion. I already filed a claim but I'm scared. The radio has been funky since I got it last year. It's a used vehicle buy to me it looked new to me. I love it bur now afraid to even get in it but really don't have a choice since I'm [XXX] and don't have anyone else to get help or have another vehicle to use. I depend solely on myself. I need help with getting another vehicle until all of this mess is taken care of. I have gas gauge issues, revving up randomly, caution light staying on now and yesterday I had smoke coming out under the dash and then it just stopped while I was trying to pull off and call for help but it stopped so I came back home. The oil was changed right after I got it last year and I put new tires on it with the money I got from a junk yard in Johnson City that came to get my 98 Ford Escort that my church family helped for me after a very traumatic accident that killed my little senior rescue pommy, totaled my vehicle and I spent several days in ICU. I live on a very strict monthly income and this has caused more anxiety and panic issues that I can't even get under control with breathing exercises, journaling and taking my fur baby for walks and am back on my regular meds. Catalytic converter is going out. Although apparently there was no recall for MY car in particular but there has been a recall for the converter overheating and damaging the engine. Car no longer goes over 40 mph; meaning I can no longer use the freeway. Oil light comes on at least twice a month. Even after a oil change It comes right back on. Check engine light never goes off. Piston Rod is damaged which then contributes to a oil leak. This has been happening over a 6 month time span. I call myself fixing one thing then something else more detrimental breaks.

THE BRAKES' VACUUM CHAMBER OR A VALVE HAVE GONE BAD. THE PEDDLE IS HARD TO PRESS WHEN VEHICLE IS CRANKED AN BAKING OUT. ALSO, NOTICED WHEN IDLING, THE BRAKE BECOMES STIFF AFTER A SLIGHT DEPRESSION OF THE PEDAL. SOMETIMES THE CAR CANNOT BE STARTED AS THE BRAKE PEDAL CANNOT BE DEPRESSED FAR ENOUGH TO ALLOW THE START BUTTON TO WORK. THE VEHICLE HAS 62,000 MILES ON IT, IT SHOULDN'T BE HAVING THESE TYPES OF PROBLEMS THIS SOON.

Our 2013 Kia Soul accelerated on its own at a Sonic drive-in restaurant. First ran into a brick wall and then when put in reverse, it continued at accelerated speed until it came to a stop. Nobody injured - just the car. Afterward I did some research and found it has been a problem with various makes and models of Kias.

THE BATTERY KEEPS DRAINING. REPLACED BATTERY AND IT KEEPS DYING AFTER A FEW WEEKS. THE DOORS LOCK AND CAN'T BE OPENED WITH THE KEY PROVIDED WHEN THE BATTERY IS DEAD, SO WE ARE LOCKED OUT OF VEHICLE WITHOUT ACCESS TO OPENING THE HOOD TO GET THE CAR JUMPED. THIS IS DANGEROUS. USELESS TO HAVE A KEYHOLE FOR A KEY THAT WON'T WORK WHEN THE BATTERY IS DEAD. THE KEY WORKS ANY OTHER TIME WHEN THE CAR BATTERY IS OK.

I purchased the 2013 Kia Soul used on 5/22/2021 and shortly afterward discovered water leaking into the front passenger side compartment and evidence that the leak was old. I brought the car to Fred Anderson Kia of Raleigh (kiaofraleigh.com) on 6/7/21, 6/25/21, and 7/20/21, and they incorrectly diagnosed the leak as an air conditioner hose. And then, after they replaced the hose, they thought it might be a windshield leak. After the unneeded air conditioner repair, they referred me out for windshield/water leak testing. McConnell Auto Glass (mcconnellautoglass.com) determined that the windshield was not leaking. The leak was coming in from substandard factory welding in the car frame. The car has never had frame repair on that side. My attempts to patch the bad weld joints with JD Weld caused the leak to continue to move across multiple failing car frame welds. The leak has damaged the interior of the car, grown mold, and exposed the electrical components to failure, rust, and fire. I contacted Kia Corporation (800 333 4542) on 1/12/22, 1/20/22, and 1/21/22. They have told me that Fred Anderson Kia will not return their outreach calls, and they would refer my case # 14586235 to the district manager for a callback -- which has not happened. They tell me the DM’s name and contact information are secret, so I can not call them. Q1: The frame welds. I have covered some of the leaking areas with JD Weld, but the welds are unaltered and could be inspected by removing the JD Weld. I also took several pictures. The leak is still present. Q2: The leak caused interior damage, including mold, and could damage electrical components due to moisture, rust, or fire. My 2013 Kia Soul has been stalling while idle or at red lights. In addition, sometimes it is difficult to start and I have to attempt several times. Lately, once I do start the vehicle and begin to drive, it’s as if the vehicle doesn’t know which gear to maintain. As a result, the car will attempt to “cut off” driving and l literally will have to pull over immediately in attempt to not be hit or run off the road, as the car is practically in neutral by its own choice. Also, the “emergency brake” light is on, even though the emergency brake is not being used.

AFTER BUCKLING THE SEAT BELT ON THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT AND GOING DOWN THE ROAD IF YOU TRY TO LEAN FORWARD ONE FINDS THAT THE SEAT BELT IS LOCKED AND WILL NOT PERMIT ANY MOVEMENT YOU HAVE TO RELEASE THE SEAT BELT AND THEN RETURN IT TO ITS PARKED POSITION AND THEN PULL IT BACK OUT AGAIN. ONCE THAT HAS BEEN DONE YOU CAN MOVE FORWARD OR PULL ON THE BELT ONLY ONCE BEFORE IT LOCKS UP AGAIN. I FEEL VERY UNSAFE WHEN THE SEAT BELT DOES THIS BECAUSE I FEEL THAT IN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT ONE MIGHT NOT BE ABLE TO RELEASE THE SEAT BELT IF THERE WAS A LOT OF TENSION ON THE BELT FROM ITS OWN TIGHTENING. ONE SHOULD BE FREE TO LEAN FORWARD TO OPEN THE GLOVE COMPARTMENT OR TURN TO ATTEND TO MATTERS IN THE BACK SEATS. I HAVE ACTUALLY SIMULATED A SCENARIO WHERE THERE WAS EXTREME TENSION ON THE BELT FROM PUSHING BACK IN MY SEAT AND TIGHTENING THE BELT BY PUSHING THE BELT BACK UP OVER MY SHOULDER AND WHEN I TRIED TO RELEASE THE BELT IT WAS SO HARD TO PRESS THE RELEASE BUTTON THAT I HAD TO ASK MY WIFE TO GET A RUBBER MALLET AND A LONG SCREWDRIVER SO THAT I COULD HIT THE RELEASE BUTTON WITH THE SCREW DRIVER AGAINST THE RELEASE BUTTON. IT FINALLY DI DISENGAGE. I TOLD MY WIFE TO GO TO THE DEALER AND TELL THEM TO FIX IT AND SHE WAS TOLD THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH IT. WE NOW HAVE A2015 KIA SOUL AND THE SEAT BELTS DO THE SAME THING. THE ONLY ADVANTAGE WITH THE 2015 IS THAT THE SEATS ARE WIDER AND AS SUCH ITS NOT TO HARD TO GET THE SCREWDRIVER AGAINST THE RELEASE BUTTON TO DISENGAGE THE SEAT BELT. Gas peddle gets very touchy before incident. RPMs spike to 3-4K, unable to stop car. Brakes do not work. Brakes get very hard and high brake peddle. Have to put the car in neutral, pull over, turn car off, put in park. Let car sit for a few minutes. Start car, something must reset because car is back to normal. My regular mechanic was unable to resolve, therefore took to dealer. $3500 later, the car is currently at the dealer for the 4th time trying to resolve. Very dangerous due to the car acceleration and inability to stop!! Has been happening for approx. 4 years. Started out happening once or twice per year, then increased to 4 times in one day. The brake lights go out all the time. They work one day and then not the next. This is a known issue with Kia vehicles. Apparently this is a wide spread issue that effects many Kia brand cars not just the Soul model that I drive. I have people stop me saying they did not see my brake lights come on at all when I obviously had to. Why hasn't this been a recall? This is a problem that could end in fatalities.

I have been having major battery issues switching out my batteries and them going out fast. Also when I'm driving my car shakes when it goes above 60 miles per hour, also when I change gears I noticed I get a hard thump when I change my gears. The electrical in the car sometimes it goes off and on my radio has completely went out it comes on when it wants. Cruise control when I put it on sometimes just cuts off when I'm driving. Engine runs kind of rough when I first got my car everything was smooth but after 6 years I noticed everything started running the little rough.

Speed Control may have misfunctioned. I do not really know. When driving, the car randomly drops down to 5 mph and continues on its own at 5mph. The only way to stop is to turn off the engine. The car is not safe to drive This defect puts me at risk and all the cars following me at risk. This defect has not been independently verified but it is easy to reproduce. Check Engine was on due to problems with a multitude of engine sensors.

2013 Kia Soul base model when Kia reset engine because catallactic convertor (to show proper MPG) this started shortly after. Soul started having fuel levels drop to EMPTY after fueling. With fuel light & engine light coming on. Driving a short time fuel gauge then shows correct amount. This is occurring more often, talking with other Kia Soul owners they have seen it also. I am told sensors in fuel tank will need replaced almost $1000.00 but nothing can be done until lights stay on all time with NO GAURENTEE it will fix problem. Both of my Souls have this issue, I have 1 Soul still on the road, Soul 2 was traded in. Pictures from a video as event was happening.

THE COMPLAINT WAS REGARDED TO EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION, LOW GAS MILEAGE,VEHICLE STALLING AND SHUTTING DOWN COMPLETELY WHILE IN MOTION IN THE HIGHWAY AND FAULTY ENGINE PARTS. I INITIATED A 2ND COMPLAINT ABOUT SAME ISSUES IN JANUARY 2021. PRIOR TO ALL THIS IN 2019 KIA HAD A RECALL FOR ECU IN WHICH I STRONGLY THINK IS THE ONSET BEGINNING HOW ISSUES I CURRENTLY HAVE HAVE RESONATED INTO CURRENT ISSUES LEADING UP TILL (PRESENT). THIS YEAR 2021, I CALLED KIA CONSUMER ADDRESSING ISSUES BUT REP. STATED, THERE WERE NO ENGINE CAMPAIGNS OR RECALLS ISSUED AT THIS TIME AND INSISTED I CALL THE DEALERSHIP ABOUT ISSUES WITH THE VEHICLE. I CALLED THE KIA DEALERSHIP EXPLAINING TO THE SERVICE REP. AN INCIDENT HAD OCCURRED AS I'M DRIVING TO WORK WHILE IN MOTION IN ONGOING TRAFFIC UP A HIGHWAY MY CAR BEGIN TO STALL LIKE IN LIMP MODE AND LOSING POWERTRAIN IN THE ENGINE AND SHUT OFF COMPLETELY. WHILE THIS HAPPENED THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS WERE ILLUMINATED AS THE BATTERY LIGHT, OIL LIGHT AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WERE ON ALL AT THE SAME TIME. I TRIED TO START THE VEHICLE BUT WOULD NOT START. I CALLED FOR 911 ASSISTANCE FOR IMMEDIATE HELP DUE TO CAR SHUTTING OFF ON ME IN ONGOING TRAFFIC. THIS IS THE SECOND COMPLAINT BEING FILED REGUARDING THIS CAR. AFTER WE FILED THE FIRST COMPLAINT WE TOOK OUR CAR BACK INTO THE KIA DEALERSHIP FOR THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT FLASHING. THEY SCANNED ENGINE AND DIDN'T FIND ANYTHING. THEY TOPPED OFF OUR OIL BECAUSE IT WAS HALF FULL. I JUST RECENTLY GOT MY OIL CHANGE DONE THERE 2,000 MILES AGO. ACCORDING TO THE OWNERS MANUAL IT SHOULD BE DONE EVERY 7,500 MILES. THE FOLLOWING DAY WE WERE DRIVING DOWN THE FREEWAY, PULLED OFF AT OUR EXIT AND SMELLED A HORRID LEAK BURNING/ ROTTEN EGG/ SULFUR SMELL. HIRED A FORENSIC SPECIALIST TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF FIRE FOR INSURANCE PURPOSES. THE SPECIALIST WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THIS FREAK INCIDENT. I BEGAN TO DRIVE AGAIN AND MY CAR WOULDNT START WHEN I STOPPED TO GET GAS. SOMEONE HAD TO JUMP MY CAR AT THE GAS STATION AND IT HAPPENS ON AND OFF NOT EVERYTIME BUT I HAVE TO PUSH MY GAS AND TURN MY KEY AT THE SAME TIME TO GET MY CAR TO START. THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT WHEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO RESPOND. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 19,000.

VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING NORTH AT APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH. DRIVER VEERED RIGHT ACCIDENTLY AND WENT OFF ASPHALT SURFACE INTO DITCH. VEHICLE ROLLED END OVER END TWICE AND LANDED UPRIGHT FACING SOUTH ON THIRD ROLLOVER. DRIVER WAS WEARING SEAT BELTS. VEHICLE WAS DAMAGED ON BOTH SIDES OF FRONT, TOP WAS CRUSHED IN, RIGHT FRONT WHEEL BENT INTO WHEEL WELL, WINDSHIELD WAS SHATTERED AND CAVED IN. THERE WAS DAMAGE TO BOTH SIDES OF THE VEHICLE AND THE HOOD. DRIVER WAS INJURED AND TRANSPORTED BY AMBULANCE TO HOSPITAL. THE MAJOR COMPLAINT WAS THAT THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY TO PROTECT DRIVER. VEHICLE ENGINEERS FROM KIA MOTORS NATIONAL CONSUMER AFFAIRS INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND STATED THAT AIR BAGS WERE NOT DEPLOYED IN A ROLLOVER BECAUSE CAR WAS NOT EQUIPPED THAT WAY. HE REPORTED THAT THE AIR BAGS IN FRONT WOULD HAVE DEPLOYED IN A FRONT IMPACT, THE SIDE CURTAIN AIR BAGS WOULD HAVE DEPLOYED IN A SIDE IMPACT. THE CAR WAS CONSIDERED A TOTAL LOSS AND NOT REPAIRABLE.

IN THE FRONT RANGE OF COLORADO WE FREQUENTLY GET SEVERAL INCHES OF WET, HEAVY SNOW IN THE FALL, WINTER AND SPRING. WE HAVE TO PARK THE CAR OUTSIDE A GARAGE AT HOME AND AT WORK. WE ALWAYS COMPLETELY CLEAR SNOW FROM ALL GLASS SURFACES AND CHECK THE OPERATION OF THE WIPERS BEFORE DRIVING THE CAR. WE BOUGHT AN EXPENSIVE TELESCOPING COMBINATION SCRAPER, BRUSH AND SQUEEGEE DESIGNED FOR CMVS TO CLEAR AS MUCH SNOW AS WE CAN REACH AND SEE FROM THE WHITE PAINTED ROOF OF THE CAR BEFORE DRIVING IT. AFTER THE INTERIOR OF THE CAR WARMS UP IT APPEARS TO LOOSEN THE BOND BETWEEN THE ROOF OF THE CAR AND ANY RESIDUAL OR NEWLY ACCUMULATED SNOW. NUMEROUS TIMES WHEN UNDER NORMAL BRAKING SNOW HAS SLID FORWARD OFF THE ROOF ON TO THE WINDSHIELD OBSCURING ALL FORWARD VISIBILITY AND INSTANTLY CREATING A SEVERE COLLISION SAFETY HAZARD. FURTHERMORE, WHEN THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS ARE ACTIVATED TO CLEAR THE SNOW THE WIPER MOTORS ARE TOO WEAK TO MOVE THE SNOW REQUIRING THE DRIVER TO BLINDLY BRAKE TO A STOP UNABLE TO SEE WELL ENOUGH EVEN TO STEER THE CAR OUT OF THE LANE OF TRAFFIC TO A SAFE PLACE TO STOP. THIS HAPPENED A FEW DAYS AGO AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT AT A BUSY INTERSECTION IN SLICK SNOWY ROAD CONDITIONS DURING EVENING RUSH HOUR. AFTER COMING TO A STOP WITHOUT HITTING THE CAR IN FRONT OF HER MY FIVE FOOT, TWO INCH TALL 68 YEAR OLD WIFE HAD TO GET OUT OF THE CAR IN DANGEROUS CONDITIONS AND MANUALLY REMOVE(FOR THE SECOND TIME) SNOW FROM THE WINDSHIELD WHILE BEING SUBJECTED TO HONKING HORNS AND ONE-FINGERED SALUTES FROM ILL-MANNERED MOTORISTS. OUR 2013 KIA SOUL ONLY HAS ONE MANUAL DOOR LOCK WHICH IS LOCATED ON THE DRIVER DOOR. WHEN THE TEMPERATURE IS BELOW FREEZING, THE KEY BECOMES EXTREMELY HARD TO TURN OR WON'T TURN AT ALL. IF THE KEY BREAKS WHILE SOMEONE IS ATTEMPTING TO OPEN THE DOOR, THERE IS NO OTHER LOCK TO ALLOW THE PERSON TO ENTER THE VEHICLE WITH A SECOND KEY. THIS IS THE ONLY CAR WHICH I HAVE KNOWN TO ONLY HAVE ONE MEANS OF UNLOCKING THE DOORS TO THE VEHICLE, THAT IS, THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR LOCK. HI MY NAME IS [XXX], I HAVE A REGISTERED EVENFLO DISCOVERY/ NURTURE INFANT CAR SEAT. THIS CAR SEAT HAS THE SAFETY LATCH THAT LATCHES TO THE NEWER MODEL VEHICLES AND THEN THE BASE. THEN THE CARSEAT LATCHES TO THE BASE. THE CARSEAT BASE AND ALL THEN MOVES FROM SIDE TO SIDE A GREAT AMOUNT OF DISTANCE AND I ALSO HAD AN OFFICER CHECK IT OUT AND HE SAID IT IS A DEFAULT FROM THE MANUFACTURE AND I COULD BE FINED.
