Engine failing, pistons, and major oil consumption

The engine has absorbed an insane amount of oil the last several weeks, and this week it burned 1/2 quart of oil in four days- it was fully filled to 1 quart monday and by Friday of the same week was halfway gone. Otherwise it has worked well. Other Kia souls in the area are selling for much more money even if they have the same or more miles on them, but because mine needs an engine rebuild due to piston ring issues, it is worth much less than it should be. And there are no available recalls even though this is a known issue for Kia souls.

Car burns through oil like crazy. Most likely has already caused damage to engine. After about 2-3 weeks from getting my oil changed my oil light will start flashing when I brake. After another week it'll start coming on when I accelerate.

My VIN number was included as part of the engine recall up to 150,000 miles. My car sat at the dealership and the engine replacement was denied because the leaking piston were not cover as part of the engine recall. I even called Kia directly and they would not cover the engine replacement. The excessive oil consumption starter at 93K, the engine failed at 120,000 mile and 7 years old. I bought the vehicle brand new and I changed my oil faithfully. I think they denied the engine replacement because they started getting all these other engine recalls. The car was very reliable and no other major problems until this.

** Component/system that failed: The engine and catalytic converter. An independent mechanic confirmed the catalytic converter is clogged due to engine oil burning and entering the exhaust system. The component is still in the vehicle and available for inspection upon request. ** Safety risk: The car struggles to accelerate, especially from a stop or uphill, and cannot reliably reach or maintain highway speeds. It revs at 3,500–4,000 RPM at just 20–60 mph. This creates a serious safety hazard, especially when merging, changing lanes, or avoiding traffic, putting myself and others at risk. ** Problem confirmed: Yes. A trusted independent shop diagnosed and confirmed the engine is burning oil, contaminating the catalytic converter, and advised against replacing the converter until the root cause is fixed, or it will fail again. The Kia dealership dismissed the issue without testing, claiming it’s acceptable to burn 1 quart of oil every 1,000 miles. However, my vehicle consumes about 1 quart every 500 miles despite routine 2,500-mile oil changes with 5W-20 high-mileage oil. This excessive consumption is abnormal and being overlooked without proper evaluation. ** Inspection by manufacturer or others: Yes. A Kia dealership inspected the vehicle but refused to perform an oil consumption test, claiming the vehicle was “too unstable to drive,” despite me driving it 20 miles there. They blamed the converter failure on “normal wear and tear,” and denied the presence of an oil leak. ** Warning symptoms prior to failure: Yes. The symptoms began months ago and progressed over time, including: loss of power, high RPMs under low speed, poor fuel economy (range dropped from 350 to 310 miles), and difficulty accelerating. No warning lights have appeared. ** Additional note: This issue closely mirrors NHTSA Recall 19V120, but my Soul has a 2.0L engine, not a 1.6L. Many 2.0L owners report the same problem. I believe this defect should be investigated for recall expansion.

The contact owns a 2014 Kia Soul. The contact stated that while driving at night, the front passenger’s side low-beam headlight failed to illuminate as needed. The contact stated that while activating the high-beam headlights, the driver’s side high-beam headlight failed to illuminate as needed. The vehicle was taken to the local mechanic who determined that the driver’s and passenger’s side headlight assemblies had overheated and melted. The headlight assemblies and light bulbs were replaced but the failure eventually reoccurred. The contact stated that the light bulbs and headlight assemblies were replaced on several occasions. The local dealer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 100,000.

The contact owns a 2014 Kia Soul. The contact stated that while driving at night at 45–50 MPH, the headlights became inoperable. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact was able to pull over, and the headlights returned to operation but were flickering. The contact called the local dealer, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who stated that the connectors had melted and referred the contact to the dealer for assistance. The contact stated that the failure was related to NHTSA ID Number: 10170778 (Exterior Lighting). The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was unknown.

Since September 2015 the car Headlamps malfunctioned. I made several trips to the Dealer and was told they are not able to duplicate my complaint. Presently while driving the headlights will go off and by bumping the multi-Function light switch, they would come back on. Please see attached letter & service detail that was sent to Kia without resolution.

My headlights flicker or shut off intermittently when driving at night. Sometimes it seems to be associated with using my turn signal. Sometimes it seems to be associated with going from dim to bright headlights. I took my car to the dealer who said that KIA has an extended warranty to cover this repair. But when the dealer's service department could not reproduce the situation in the shop, then said KIA would not pay for the repair. I contacted KIA consumer affairs and was given a case number (14989817). After two weeks I finally was contacted and the policy was repeated by KIA. I explained that the problem was intermittent but they would not do anything on their end because the dealer could not diagnose the issue in shop.

WHEN USING A TURN SIGNAL WITH THE HEADLIGHTS ON, ONCE THE TURN SIGNAL RELEASES, THE HEADLIGHTS WILL FLICKER AND OFTEN GO OUT COMPLETELY. THIS HAPPENS IN TOWN, AND AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. IT IS DANGEROUS AT NIGHT, WHEN THE HEADLIGHTS ARE NECESSARY.

HEADLIGHTS FLICKER OR GO OFF WITH NO WARNING. IN ADDITION, ALL INTERIOR LIGHTS AND DISPLAYS FLICKER AT THE SAME TIME. THIS HAS HAPPENED BOTH WHILE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION AND STOPPED. THE RADIO AND COOLING/HEATING SYSTEM DO NOT APPEAR TO BE IMPACTED. THIS HAS HAPPENED REPEATEDLY, AND TONIGHT THEY WENT BLACK AND STAYED OFF UNTIL I PULLED OVER AND TURNED OFF MY CAR, THEN STARTED IT AGAIN. I WAS NEARLY REAR-ENDED. THE DEALERSHIP IS NOT RETURNING MY CALLS TO TELL ME IF THIS IS SOMETHING THAT IS UNDER AN EXTENDED WARRANTY, UNDER RECALL, OR MY RESPONSIBILITY.

DRIVING AT NIGHT WITH HEAD LIGHT ON. USED TURN SIGNAL AND WHEN TURNED CORNER, DASH BOARD LIGHTS STARTED BLINKING ON AND OFF AND HEAD LIGHTS WENT OFF THEN BACK ON TWO OR THREE TIMES. THIS HAS HAPPENED NOW THREE DIFFERENT TIMES. IT DOESN'T MATTER WHICH WAY THE BLINKERS ARE SIGNALING, THE LIGHTS IN THE DASH FLICKER AND THE HEAD LIGHTS GO OFF AND ON.

DESPITE THE FIXED RECALL OF THE STEERING COUPLER, THIS VEHICLE MAKES A STEERING CLUCK NOISE WHEN TURNING WHICH CAN BE FELT IN THE STEERING WHEEL. THIS ESPECIALLY OCCURS WHEN FIRST DRIVING THE VEHICLE. WHILE UNDER WARRANTY THE DEALERSHIP REPORTED EITHER THE SOUND WAS NORMAL OR THEY COULD NOT REPRODUCE IT. NOW THAT IT IS OUT OF WARRANTY, THE DEALERSHIP SAYS THAT THE STEERING COLUMN NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AT MY EXPENSE. A QUICK SEARCH SHOWS THAT EVEN AFTER THE STEERING COUPLING RECALL, THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WHICH CAN CAUSE ACCIDENTS.

MY STEERING HAS A SIGNIFICANT KLUNK NOISE. AFTER SEARCHING THE INTERNET FOR INFORMATION REGARDING THIS SITUATION I FIND THAT THERE IS A RUBBER DRIVE COUPLING BETWEEN THE STEERING WHEEL AND THE SHAFT WHICH TRANSFERS THE ROTARY MOTION OF THE STEERING WHEEL TO THE LINEAR MOTION OF THE STEERING RACK WHICH STEERS THE FRONT WHEELS. THE CONSENSUS IS THAT THIS CAN EASILY RESULT IN LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE STEERING WHICH WOULD END IN A TOTALLY UNPREDICTABLE CRASH. THE RUBBER PART APPARENTLY DISINTEGRATES WITH TIME SUCH AS CRAZING FOUND IN OLD PLASTIC, PLEXIGLAS ETC.

I WAS ON BUSINESS 85 MY STEERING WHEEL WENT OUT I COULDN'T TURN MY WHEEL LEFT. I ENDED UP HAVING TO JERK MY STEERING WHEEL TO THE RIGHT TURNING IN A COMPLETE CIRCLE TO AVOID TRAFFIC AND GET OFF THE ROAD. AFTER COMPLETELY STOPPING I ENDED UP NEAR A DITCH AND GRAVE YARD. AT THIS POINT I TURN MY CAR OFF AND TURNED IT BACK ON TO SEE IF IT WOULD WORK, BUT MY STEERING WHEEL WOULD JUST TURN IN A COMPLETE CIRCLE. MY HORN OR NOTHING WOULDN'T WORK ON MY STEERING WHEEL IT JUST MADE CLICKING NOISES.

The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed with cruise control activated, the RPM's suddenly increased to over 4,000 and the contact heard an abnormal sound coming from the engine compartment. The contact pulled over to the shoulder of the roadway where the failure persisted. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that she was previously informed that the catalytic convertor needed to be replaced prior to the failure; however, the catalytic convertor had not been replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was 120,000.

The contact owns a 2014 Kia Soul. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, there was an abnormally loud sound coming from the front end of the vehicle. The contact stated that the failure increased significantly while driving. Upon inspecting the vehicle, the contact noticed that the catalytic converter was fractured. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for the recall repair of NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V120000 (Engine, Engine and Engine Cooling), where the Catalytic Overheating Protection Engine Control Unit logic was upgraded. Additionally, the contact was provided an estimate for the catalytic converter repair; however, the contact declined to pay a fee for the repair because the recall repair included replacing the catalytic converter if damaged. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a case was opened. The failure mileage was approximately 139,762.

The vehicle was taken to the dealer for the recall repair and the vehicle was also repaired under the NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V120000 (Engine, Engine and Engine Cooling) however, after the vehicle was repaired, the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for another inspection. The contact then stated that a year later, while driving at an undisclosed speed, he heard a loud knocking sound under the hood of the vehicle. The check engine warning light then illuminated. The contact stated that he veered the vehicle off the road and parked. The contact then turned off and restarted the vehicle. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the oxygen sensor and catalytic converter had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle remained at the dealer. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that the recall had expired and advised the contact to call the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 160,000.

10/01/2025 I took my vehicle to Crain Kia of Conway for four different safety recalls. Safety Recall 15V123 (SC116) , 22V096(SC229) ,17V608(SC155A) ,and 19V120(SC176). Mr.Jerime York handled my paperwork. I told him my car has. diagnotic code of 420(Catalytic Converter is not operating efficiently on Bank 1) He told me they would take care of me. 10/14/2025 when i got there to pickup my vehicle I ask Mr.York, what they did about safety recall SC176. He said upgraded the module. I brought to his attention that the remedy stated that in addition, they were suppose to check catilatic converter and motor for damage due to module not controlling tempature. He stated he trusted that his mechanic followed repair procedure. i requested a printout of the diagnotic codes my vehicle had when I brought in which they gave me. Ive attached a copy of the diagnosic codes on my vehicle. notice the 420 code also attached is KIA Technical Service diagnostic procedure and repair instructions for safety recall SC176. which they did not do . I question if they did any of the recall repairs. The document prove they did not do the most important one sc176. please help with this situation.

On [XXX], my 2014 Kia Soul received the PI2002A Knock Sensor Detection System (KSDS) ECU update at Southwest Kia, 39650 Lyndon B Johnson Freeway South, Dallas, TX 75237. After the update, the engine sustained catastrophic damage (a hole in the block). Southwest Kia informed me that Kia denied the engine replacement under warranty, which is inconsistent with the official PI2002A bulletins (NHTSA #MC-10172065 and MC-10189615). These bulletins clearly state that the short block warranty is extended and that engine replacement is covered for this type of failure. I am requesting an immediate review of my case, a written explanation for the denial, and a timeline for resolution, as my vehicle is currently inoperable. Attached are service records, photos of the engine damage, and copies of the PI2002A bulletins for reference. I WAS DRIVING FOR LESS THAN TEN MINUTES ON AN EXPRESSWAY WHEN MY KIA SOUL SHUT DOWN. I HAD JUST CHANGED LANES. FORTUNATELY, I HAD MOVED TO THE FAR LEFT WHICH WAS ADJACENT TO THE EMERGENCY LANE PRIOR TO THE SHUT DOWN. I WAS ABLE TO STEER THE CAR TO THAT AREA AND BRAKE. THE CAR HAD COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN OUT OF THE BLUE. I COULD NOT ACCELERATE. THANK GOD THE BRAKES AND STEERING WERE STILL WORKING. AFTER A FEW MINUTES I TRIED TO START THE CAR. IT TURNED ON QUICKLY. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE TO THE NEAREST EXIT. THE CAR SEEMED TO WORK FINE. I MADE AN APPOINTMENT WITH A KIA DEALER. I WAS INFORMED THAT CERTAIN 2014 KIA'S MAY HAVE A PROBLEM WITH SHUTTING OFF. MY CAR IS IN THEIR HANDS. I AM TRYING TO GET IN TOUCH WITH KIA. IF THEY SAY MY CAR ISN'T ONE OF THE "CERTAIN" 2014 KIA'S THAT WERE RECALLED AND DON'T PAY FOR THE REPAIRS, I WILL BE VERY UPSET. THIS IS NOT NORMAL BEHAVIOR. A CAR SHOULDN'T JUST COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN. I COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED. I NO LONGER FEEL SAFE WITH THIS CAR.

Oil, all fluids faithfully changed since purchased, along with rotatable tires.fuel pump good, many trips to local dealership but nothing completely resolved as informed. Aside air bag never checked or replaced. Desperately need assistance in resolution please.

Odometer Fraud. The contact purchased a 2014 Kia Soul. The contact discovered a mileage discrepancy after the purchase. The vehicle was a private sale. At the time of purchase, the vehicle mileage was 92,000. It was later discovered that the mileage on the Title was 200,000.

Odometer Fraud. The contact purchased a 2014 Kia Soul. The contact stated that upon start of the vehicle, the check engine warning light illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken an independent mechanic where the mechanic discovered that there was a mileage discrepancy. The vehicle was a purchased from a Toyota dealer. An email was sent to the car salesman who sold the contact the vehicle. At the time of purchase, the vehicle mileage was 112,485, it was later discovered that the mileage was approximately 138,000.

My car was stolen by a minor who had a USB cable and internet instructions. My car was lacking proper if any anti theft technology by Kia. Because Kia is aware of this issue and did nothing not only myself but anyone who drives a Kia is at risk for a theft or car jacking. The car was recovered and inspected by local police. No car should be made available for purchase without security features that keep you and your property safe. Who knows how things could have ended if there was a direct confrontation. If one is crazy enough to steal a car, one may be nuts enough to have a gun.

Purchased car on [XXX] less then a week later I tried o purchase Sirius radio for car, however due to being a previous customer I didn’t get a fair enough price for purchase an decided against purchase all together. However due to linking my VIN number ( assuming) kia customer recall center contacted me the very next day called 3xs left me to vmail (still have all voice mails) as KIA Then continually called me and left me voice mails stating vehicle needed to be put in shop due to not safe to drive and I needed to get appointment immediately for recalls on said vin! I called KiA of Wilmington and waited In their waiting room for said appointment for over 4hours. Not only did they lie and tell me I wasn’t in office for that long they forged my time in and out, on said one page non informed piece of paper non receipt stating I was only there for hour an half. When I literally got upset asking demanding for information on what was so dire about my car they told me oh it was nothing my car was just fine. I took there nonsense paper got in car and left. 4 days later my car literally went bonkers the check engine started flashing car wouldnt accelerate then as it started it made a loud pop/ snap sound then seized up locking up so hard it gave me whip lash and wouldnt move another inch let alone provide sound as if car wasn’t still running. I pushed to my home less then 500feet away with help of neighbors whom plugged in my car to read the code which happened to be in direct connection to said recall supposedly checked replaced IN NO WAY FIXED yet said so even though the car had no problems till kia messed with it now it’s completely broken and kia keeps hanging up on me and will not fix or even look at my vehicle I EVEN pleaded I would pay them to fix it they won’t even contact me back. UNKNOWN. Kia Dealership in Edmond Oklahoma is refusing to do the recalls on my 2014 KIA Soul because the engine has a knock in it which I believe to be from one of the recalls with the engine. KIA manufacturer said that they couldn't do anything about the dealership not fixing the recalls and to take it to another dealership.

on 11/11/2023: Engine failed/malfunctioned. Engine stalled while driving on the interstate. Traveling 75mph. I felt some sort of slight jolt, looked down at the dash and seen my check engine light blinking. There was not an exit nearby so I proceeded to pull over. As I pull over all lights had become illuminated but check engine light was not blinking anymore and I had first seen my headlights dim twice, next the radio went out, then headlights then my hazard lights and eventually everything turned off. This happened approximately around 10:00 pm and I had made it approximately 20 miles out of town. I felt it was too dangerous to step out of the vehicle. I called for a tow truck to bring my vehicle to the nearest kia and found a ride home myself. My safety was put at risk by being stalled on the side of the interstate with no power to even have the hazards on with high-speed vehicles passing by me. Kia of Fargo, ND inspected my vehicle and found no reason as to why my vehicle had stalled.What they did find was a historic code for my catalytic converter needing to be replaced, which I had brought up to them and they advised me to make an appointment. For approximately the past 2 years I have been bringing my vehicle in to the Kia of Fargo concerning the amount of oil my vehicle is going through between oil changes. Sometimes it seems like the amount of oil "burned" varies but sometimes I can’t even make it until my next oil change without having to add oil into the vehicle. I have had multiple oil consumption tests completed. Which some of them did come up excessive. From there, they recommended to have an overnight cleaning but I did not notice that this did any improvement. The last oil consumption test completed I was told over the phone that my vehicle did not quite hit the mark where warranty would be able to cover it. I was told that I lost about a quart of oil and then I asked how much you have to lose and they said over a quart... attachments wont load. email

My check engine light was going on and off and I was told that I need to replace my catalytic converter. I went on line to see if my car had a recall it did show other 2014 souls but mine was not part of the recall #19v101. I'm wondering why mine wasn't part of it. I also had my engine replaced by Kia and after researching this I read that a faulty engine could have caused the converter to go. I'm trying to find out why my car wasn't part of the recall and if possible can it be added to the recall Please check into this for me and let me know

Q: What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? A: My 2014 Kia Soul "threw a rod" (as confirmed by a Kia dealer in Jan 2025) at only 115,773 miles after years of regular (every 3-5K miles) maintenance. I bought the car used in 2017 and have documentation to show the maintenance for the subsequent years. The particular motor at issue is known by mechanics to have problems (according to my own mechanic and at least two others with whom I have communicated, as well as on-line research). However, there is no active recall on it, and the car is "out of warranty." As of the date of this complaint, the car currently is available for inspection upon request. Q: How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? A: It is my understanding that throwing a rod is a catastrophic engine failure and can result in loss of control of the vehicle, potentially leading to accidents, as the engine may seize or lose power abruptly. Furthermore, the broken rod can cause the engine to explode, leak oil, or punch a hole in the engine block, posing a risk of fire or further damage. I am lucky that I noted a reduction in engine power and my engine light and took it in for assessment before anything worse occurred. Q: Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? A: I brought my vehicle into a dealer in January 2025, where they diagnosed the problem. Q: Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? A: No Q: Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? A: Yes. The engine light came on and I had it checked by my mechanic and the dealer.

My vehicles KSDS sensor was updated per recall. 2 months later the catalytic converter, PCV valve, and spark plugs needed replaced. After replacing and paying out of pocket in 01/2024, the check engine light began coming on as well as oil light. Vehicle began losing power and going into limp mode. Was taken to KIA and knock sensor was replaced 06/15/2024. Less than 3 weeks later the check engine light was on again, loss of power and check engine began flashing. Towed to Kia again to be told that I have to replace the engine out of pocket. This is a huge safety concern, considering the loss of power and all issues with Kia soul for any recalls or warranties have been the same issues with my vehicle. Vehicle had roughly 96k miles at first knock sensor replacement and approximately 104k at final issue.

Additionally, while driving the vehicle was shuddering. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who informed the contact that the vehicle was misfiring and that the oxygen sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was towed to local dealer and was diagnosed with loss of pressure on cylinder #3. The PSI pressure was five. There was an indication of the vehicle leaking and burning engine oil. The manufacturer was notified and informed the contact that the failure was not related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V750000 (Engine) however, no further assistance was provided. The approximate failure mileage was 164,000.

I was driving and my MIL came on. When I parked, I could smell strong exhaust fumes. I went to get an OBD2 scan and it came back with P0420: Catalyst System Efficiency below Threshold (Bank 1) reading. I was told to replace the O2 sensor. After getting it replaced, this did not fix the issue. After some research, I discovered there is a TSB out recommending CATALYTIC CONVERTER inspection and/or replacement. However, it only applies to the 1.6L engine and not the 2.0L engine, which makes no sense. The dealership denied coverage because of this and the vehicle exhaust fumes are still strong. This can cause emissions issues later, so the TSB should be expanded to all Kia Soul models, regardless of engine size.

While driving on the highway, my car blew a puff of smoke, and I was no longer able to accelerate higher than 15 mph. I had to stop and get my vehicle towed to the local Kia Dealership because my vehicle was inoperable. The dealership told me that DTC P0420 was triggered and that I would need a catalytic converter replacement, exhaust flex pipe replacement, and a new drive belt. There is a recall (NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V120000) for the exact issue I experienced and my vehicle falls in the category of MY2012-MY2016 Kia Soul with a 1.6 liter engine, but the dealership is stating that my vehicle is not part of the recall population and it will cost $3,000 to fix this known issue. This is unacceptable and the recall population needs to be expanded.

Upon backing the Kia out of my driveway the brakes failed completly. Upon removing the brake line shield I found extensive corrosion of the brake line resulting in a massive fluid loss. There is a Voluntary Service Campaign by Kia Motors for this issue. But, it only pertains to automobiles driven in high road salt usage states. I live on the coast of Alabama where the air is laden with salt. In fact our building codes here require the utilization of only stainless steel fastners due to this effect. In my opinion this recall should include the coast of Alabama. I did speak with Kia (Case number 25706168) but they could offer no remedy as my car was not operated in a high road salt state.

Went to back out of driveway noticed puddle of water substance near right passenger door grd. Thought possibly from AC unit, I had been previously out and about. Few days later went to leave no brakes! Had it towed, currently at dealership, so far report crack in brake line not sure yet why. Scary this could have been tragic.

When I was at work and driving in the parking lot the brake pedal went to the floor. I realized that I didn't have any brakes so I used my emergency brakes to stop. I checked and looked to find the problem: the pressure brake line was leaking under the car before the gas tank. I got my vehicle towed home by AAA. The next day I called the local dealership for the part and they didn't have one and said they could not get one. I waited for the snow to clear here in NC and for the weather to warm up before attempting to replace the line, my next option was the vehicle recycling center (Junk Yard). When I went to look at same-year models and vehicles, they were all rusted in the same place. Please look into this problem before someone gets killed.

While driving, the ABS system turns on but the light on the dash doesn't turn on. The brake pedal is solid with the ground glass feeling while braking. The ABS doesn't disengage when I take my foot off the brake. My vehicle doesn't stop or slow down. I went through an intersection and red light because I was unable to stop. This has happened three times while I have driven the vehicle. I have since learned to shift into neutral to slow the vehicle but each time it has happened, the brake pedal is solid-firm with no slowing. No errors or lights turn on to indicate the ABS is engaged. When I took the car to the Longmont CO dealership, they couldn't reproduce the problem and told me I had air in the brake line. An independent mechanic was able to reproduce this while driving my car. When the vehicle is plugged into the computer diagnostic tool, it doesn't show a problem because the computer disengages the ABS system. The mechanic replaced the ABS sensor and was unable to reproduce the issue again. I picked up my vehicle and drove it several times without incident then going downhill it happened again. I shifted into neutral and was able to stop my vehicle before hitting another car. First time this happened was 12/25/23 most recently it happened 1/14/24.

Vehicle was towed to a repair facility and upon inspection the brake master cylinder was leaking and had leaked into the brake booster. Brake master cylinder and brake booster had to be replaced.

I phoned your hotline today to report that I have been unable to get the dealership and the manufacturer to repair the SAFETY recall. She told me filing a complaint wouldn’t help me even though I kept telling her that I wanted to file a complaint. I asked to speak to someone else and she said because she was working remotely I could not speak with anyone else. So I saw I could file a complaint online, but that doesn’t seem accurate either. I am completely frustrated. My vehicle isn’t up to safety standards and I cannot get anyone including this agency to help me solve the problem. Thank you

My wife was involved in a traffic accident yesterday where she was not at fault, was hit, had on her safety belt, and her head hit the steering wheel of this car and she lost consciousness and has lacerations requiring stitches on her face. The airbag should have deployed in this case and did not. I called 3 kia dealerships locally for several months since September 2022, requesting this warranty work be done, and they all refused to do the work by not scheduling me for a service appointment after repeated requests via telephone to each service department. They should have me in their computer system as having requested this work be done. Dealerships were DARCAR Kia Temple hills, Address: 4700 Branch Ave, Temple Hills, MD 20748, Koons Kia of Woodbridge, Address: 14208 Richmond Hwy, Woodbridge, VA 22191, and Ourisman Kia of Alexandria, Address: 8670 Richmond Hwy, Alexandria, VA 22309. I was informed by U.S. Mail with a letter from Kia America this vehicle has an important NHTSA Recall number 22V096. I have contacted three Kia dealerships since received the letter dated April 4, 2022, about 3 times each. Each time, a representative says they will contact me "when they receive parts for the recall" but this recall indicates there are no parts required, instead saying "dealers will update the ACU software to enable deployment of the frontal airbags..." I am concerned these three Kia dealerships are not acting in good faith to fix a critical safety recall on my vehicle. They are denying me service. This seems illegal. How do I get my car software fixed so the airbags will deploy properly in all accident conditions? DEALER STATED PROBLEM WAS DUE TO THE PASSENGER SEAT OCCUPANT SENSORS BEING BAD AND THAT THE DRIVERS SIDE AIRBAGS WOULD STILL DEPLOY BUT PASSENGER WON'T. DEALER ESTIMATED COST TO REPAIR TO BE APPROXIMATELY $1,500. THE VEHICLE ONLY HAS APPROXIMATELY 77,000 MILES. KIA HAS A HISTORY OF ISSUES WITH THIS AND IT SEEMS THAT THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM SO THAT CONSUMERS AREN'T FORCED TO PAY THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS FOR A REPAIR TO A CRITICAL SAFETY MECHANISM. Vehicle Information: 2014 Kia Soul (Base Model) VIN: [XXX] Approx. Mileage at Failure:91,000 Incident Date: [XXX] Complaint: On [XXX], the catalytic converter in my 2014 Kia Soul failed. This follows the completion of recall SC176 on July 14, 2022, which addressed excessive exhaust gas temperatures caused by abnormal combustion conditions. While Kia representatives have claimed that SC176 is unrelated to the catalytic converter, it’s well understood that excessive exhaust heat can lead to long-term thermal damage to emissions components—particularly the catalytic converter. One representative even appeared concerned about the implications of SC176 during a phone call, before quickly changing direction. I believe this catalytic converter failure is a delayed consequence of the issue SC176 was meant to address, especially since the converter is part of the affected exhaust system. This failure not only poses a financial burden—since it falls outside the federal emissions warranty—but may also reflect a broader issue that other 2014 Soul owners could face. The component failed resulting in immediate loss of power on a US interstate highway. I’m requesting NHTSA investigate whether catalytic converter failures like mine are in fact related to the defect addressed in SC176 and whether Kia should be required to offer further coverage or corrective action. When first taking off in it in the mornings, it jumps and goes very fast and reverse. There’s no control in it. I have no brakes they go all the way down so the car just like flies backwards when I’m backing out of my garage I don’t even even have to hold the gas it’s going it’s gonna fly out anyway and when it does that the brakes go completely completely to the floor.

Three repeat incidents, a few months apart, introduced same hazard to passengers and others: End of year 2022 (date not remembered): Car was stopped at stop sign at T-intersection to enter busy roadway. Break depressed. Engine RPMS started high revving, and unexpected forward motion of car lurched into busy intersection - almost collision. April 2023 (two incidents in same month): 1. Car was at lighted intersection on state highway. Break depressed. Engine RPMS started high revving (loudly noticed). Was familiar with condition so heavily leaned on break while RPMs continued to climb. When intersection light turned green, break released, and car lunched forward. 2. Car traveling in heavy stop-and-go city traffic in downtown urban area. Break was momentarily depressed and held. Again, engine RPMs regain to REV loudly. Pressed down on break harder and harder and could not control forward motion of car - almost bumped into car ahead of us. So, next put car in neutral and then in park then back in drive. Revving condition stopped. Made appointment with Kia dealership 6/1/23 to address, but I think this might be a recall condition to report.

Vehicle's engine failed months after a recall was performed on it in October 2021 to "protect the engine from damage" while failing to reason why this was necessary. Upon my vehicle breaking down on April 1st, 2022, I had it taken to a repair shop that performed about $2,000 worth of work on the vehicle, not knowing that KIA had a known defect for code P1326 which was that the engine was defective and not that it was just a misfire as it is coded. My engine is similar to those of vehicles involved in class-actions and other NTHSA complaints around the same model year, THETA II engine, with similar problems with oil consumption issues and it failed at 99,800 miles. When I asked dealerships about the oil consumption earlier on in ownership, I was told it was when the oil was low, but not low enough to trigger a warning lamp. This is the same noise heard now when the engine runs. An increasing "ticking" as the engine increases in speed. The vehicle is available for inspection at KIA of Schaumburg who also advised me of the defects of this engine when they were able to receive it. Our safety was put at risk by the engine suddenly dropping speed abruptly without warning on busy roads and by inadequately warning of a defective engine. The problem has been reproduced successfully by both a KIA dealership and an independent shop, AAA of Skokie. It has been inspected by the manufacturer's representative. The warning lamps first appeared right after the vehicle lost power and went into "protection mode" and sharply dropped speed along a busy corridor. The vehicle failed a second time a day after receiving it from AAA Car Care Skokie from their initial work when turning onto a busy roadway, almost leading to a collision, with nowhere to immediately pull over. The vehicle's computer failed to immediately identify the misfiring until three separate turnovers and trips occurred.

MY VEHICLE HAS BEEN HAVING ISSUES WITH SHIFTING INTO GEARS- IVE HAD THE VEHICLE CHECKED AND THE SYSTEM KEEPS TELLING ME THAT THE SPARK PLUGS/IGNITION COILS ARE BAD - IVE REPLACED THEM MULTIPLE TIMES AND IT KEEPS GIVING ME THE SAME RESPONSE. EVEN WHEN I REPLACE THAT PART, THE VEHICLE KEEPS DOING THE SAME THING. THE VEHICLE KEEPS IDLING VERY HARD. THE VEHICLE SPUTTERS WHEN TRYING TO SHIFT AND THE ENTIRE VEHICLE SHIMMIES.

This vehicle has a serious oil consumption issue. It was first noticed about three years ago and has been getting progressively worse. As of June 2023 it consumes a full oil tank in about 2500 miles. Oil warning indicators flash very briefly on occasion but the light does not come on until the oil is below the dipstick. I have had it looked at by my local mechanic and by the Kia dealer who sold the car. The Kia dealer did a test and said it did not meet their standards for a recall. There have been a number of times that the oil has gotten so low without indicator warning that the engine will start running rough. on 11/04/22 the engine began bucking and stopped running at high speed. It was brought to the dealer who stated "Active DTC P0300 and P0303. Swapped Cylinder 3 coil pack and cylinder 1 coil pack. Misfire followed. No signs of cylinder damage". They replaced four spark plugs and Cylinder 1 coil pack. They stated that the cause of the issue was inconclusive and they didn't think related to oil consumption. I have recently receive notice of a proposed class action lawsuit from "Kia Engine Class Settlement, POBOX 4133, Portland, OR, 97208-4133 1-800-944-1025. I confirmed that the VIN for this vehicle is included in the proposed case. It states very similar issues with many kia vehicles with the same engine. The lawsuit states "class vehicles have a defect that can cause engine seizure, stalling, engine failure, and possibly engine fire, and that some owners and lessees have been improperly denied repairs under the vehicle's warranty."

I brought my vehicle into an authorized dealer when my check engine light came on, having just been made aware of the recall notice when I took it in for an oil change earlier that day. He said the recall came about when cars of my make/model/year started catching fire out of nowhere due to engine issues. Given that my car is still under the mileage warranty, at 95k miles, the person at the dealership service center said it would likely be covered & the recall would qualify me for a new engine altogether. I got a call back a few days later that my catalytic converter was plugged, and that I would owe just under $3000 for the repair, as my vehicle did not show the correct diagnostic code to be covered. Once I spoke with KIA's corporate consumer satisfaction line, they agreed to bring the car out & retest it. The woman from the service center informed me that the whole engine does in fact need to be replaced now, not just the converter as they initially said, but that it still isn't spitting out the code necessary during diagnostic testing, to qualify it for a recall replacement. Under SC176, my issues exactly are being described as the symptoms & causation for the recall, and yet the diagnostic code does not match. My car is currently still at the dealership's service center, and I am getting some consultation as to whether or not this is a fix that's worth it, at this point.

WHILE DRIVING MY VEHICLE, THERE WAS A KNOCK SOUND UNDER MY HOOD. THE VEHICLE STARTED TO SLOW DOWN AND STARTED TO SMOKE. I PULLED THE VEHICLE OVER AND CUT THE ENGINE. I THEN TRIED TO RESTART THE VEHICLE AND IT DID NOT RESPOND. I THEN HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE NEAREST REPAIR SHOP, WHERE THEY TOLD ME THAT THE ROD HAD PIERCED THROUGH THE ENGINE BLOCK CAUSING ALL OF THE OIL TO LEAK FROM THE ENGINE AND BREAKING THE STARTER.

In June 2024, my 2014 Kia Soul (VIN: [XXX] ) experienced a sudden engine failure without warning. I was driving on a busy road when the engine began sputtering and quickly stalled. The vehicle became inoperable and had to be towed. I had it inspected at a Kia dealership, who diagnosed the issue as complete engine failure but have not provided me with a full diagnostic report despite multiple requests. This type of failure is consistent with the known defects in the Theta II engine that have triggered recalls and extended warranties in similar Kia models. Although Kia has denied coverage for my vehicle, I believe this is a related safety issue. The vehicle stalled unexpectedly, creating a hazardous condition on the road. I was traveling with my toddler in the back seat and felt our safety was at risk. I am submitting this complaint because I believe this failure is not an isolated incident and should be investigated. Kia has refused to acknowledge a defect, but the symptoms match those in previous recalls for other Soul and Forte models with similar engines. I have also attached documentation showing service history and repair costs, and I am happy to make the vehicle available for inspection. My 2014 Kia Soul ! has had 2 codes, P1326 which is related to a Knock Sensor Detection System (KSDS) which has ties to a known Rod Bearing issue. And a P0420 code related to the Catalytic converter. There was a lawsuit which led to a Recall issued for this vehicle, however, it appears only for 1.6L engine. Mine is 2.0. Just basic online searches have discovered an overwhelming amount of other owners of 2.0 also getting the same issues with there's as well.

The engine is consuming motor oil in excess after conducting oil changes. If it goes unaddressed after oil changes, it causes the pins in the engine to not operate properly. This results in a check engine light requiring the owners to get another oil change prior to actually needing one. Kia motors is aware of this issue; however are only willing to replace the engine if it fails due to pins and not the excessive oil consumption if your mileage is over the 10 year/100,000 miles. Both issues are interrelated and the engine needs to be replaced regardless!

check engine light came on the evening of 3/08/2023. Auto zone said it was a knock sensor code and was listed as a recall. Next morning while driving on highway to ft Wayne Kia dealership my car engine lost rpm while driving at 65 mph on i-69 chapel exit in ft Wayne indiana. The car engine compartment almost immediately ignited into flames with an explosion. Driver barely got out before fire was in the dash. The front interior dash and front seat areas were caught on fire. Shrapnel blown from car started a grass fire as well. The fire department arrived to get both fires under control. My car was still under warranty at 108 months and 89,000 miles. Never had any problem with my Soul until that next day after light came on. I was not notified of the recalls except only recently received an airbag recall on 3/30/2023. I have contacted Kia to file a claim with them.

VEHICLE IN MOTION,DRIVING IN A PARKING LOT AT APPROXIMATELY 12MPH WHEN THE ENGINE STALLED. ENGINE FAILED TO RESTART AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS. INITIAL DIAGNOSIS AND REPAIR FROM KIA DEALERSHIP SAID INTERNAL DAMAGE TO FUEL PUMP. LESS THAN ONE HOUR AFTER PICKING VEHICLE UP NOTED NOISE FROM ENGINE DURING ACCELERATION AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. TOOK THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP AND DTC CODE INDICATED AN ISSUE WITH CATALYTIC CONVERTER.

The local dealer was not contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repairs. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. VIN tool confirms parts not available.

The recalls on my car has not yet been resolved. I took the car to CarTown Kia Florence South Carolina and the one in Columbia. First time was at CarTown Kia Florence, they had every excuse that they were short of staff and my car sit there for over a month and claim that I needed to fix the head gasket was the issue in order to do the engine inspection and fix the recall. I took it to the Columbia location and they didn't do the recall but gave me a list of things and mentioned that the recall was not covered under the recall warranty. I'm not sure what that means when I clearly have a recall issue and the car is doing exactly that according to the issues for the recall. I told both places my car was doing exactly what the issues are stating in the recall in order to remedy it according to the remedy. But nothing has been done to fix the recalls issue.

Oil consumption and catalytic converter clogging. My car burns through 5 liters of oil about every 1,000 miles. I've already had the catalytic converter replaced and my mechanic said it's from excessive oil leaking, and the only alternative to fix it is to replace the engine.

Catalytic Converter malfunction and it was check by my mechanic at Hillebrand Automotive. It causes my 2014 Kia Soul to stop running in the middle of the highway. There were no warning lights, massages or any other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure. This happened 3 months ago. On January 21, 2023. It's still down because i can't afford to have it fix.

I had the Knock sensor recall updated on my car last year. This installation was faulty so Kia had to create a software for my car for the knock sensor. Recently, my car has starting losing momentum when trying to drive and it's slow to shift almost like it's stuck in safe mode which is what happened after the kds was put in place. I believe the software or the sensor may be malfunctioning. This is affecting my gas mileage and possibly harming my transmission. This could possibly cause me to be in an accident with severe injuries or death.

IT TOOK KARP KIA 1 WEEK TO REPLACE THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER. 3 WEEKS LATER I BROUGHT MY CAR BACK TO THE DEALER BECAUSE OIL WAS NOT STAYING IN THE CAR BUT LEAKING ONTO THE ENGINE. KARP KIA WILL NOT HONOR MY WARRANTY NOR MY EXTENDED WARRANTY BECAUSE I CAN'T GET ALL OF MY MAINTENANCE RECORDS DESPITE THE ENGINE RECALL. I BOUGHT THE CAR IN 2017 AND THE CAR HAS LESS THAN 60000 MILES AND NEEDS A NEW ENGINE. I AM LEGALLY DISABLED AND TRYING TO FIND A WAY TO MAKE THEM HONOR THE RECALL/WARRANTY THAT THEY WANT ME TO PAY FOR BECAUSE I DON'T HAVE ALL OF MY OIL CHANGE RECEIPTS. PLEASE HELP ME.

The contact owns a 2014 Kia Soul. The contact stated that while driving at low speeds, the accelerator pedal was depressed but the vehicle failed to respond. The brake pedal was depressed to the floorboard. The vehicle was slow to respond and failed to move. After the vehicle responded, the vehicle failed to exceed 35 MPH. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer where it was diagnosed that the heat sensor and protector shield needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure persisted. The manufacturer was contacted but no additional assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 116,119.

I own a Kia Soul. The catylitic converters went out. The car won't accelerate and the car got extremely hot. When I looked up Kia Soul recalls it showed that there was a recall on the converters also that some Kia Souls had gotten hot an caught on fire. I called Parkway Family Kia. They told me that it wasn't an active recall and that they couldn't do anything. I then called Demontrond Kia and got the same answer. I talked with the service manager Brian. What can I do to resolve this?

THE FIRST OCCASION WAS THE MIDDLE OF THE AFTERNOON ON AN UNEVENTFUL FAIR WEATHER DAY WHILE BACKING OUT OF A DRIVEWAY AND ENTERING A RESIDENTIAL STREET. THE SECOND TIME WAS IN A COSTCO PARKING LOT, AGAIN ON A CLEAR AND UNEVENTFUL WEATHER DAY. NO RAIN OR ICE ON EITHER DAY HERE IN SACRAMENTO CA. Ive tried to get my recalls fixed since I bought the car 2 years ago, Jeff Wyler Kia Eastgate Ohio has given me the run around, at least 5 attempts of no call backs or prolonged appointment dates not having me on record, my car breaks down I pay for diagnostic blown engine, I pay to have it towed to Jeff Wyler Kia Eastgate Ohio, it's been there for 5 weeks and they still have not done a diagnostic on it. They are saying they never received my driver's license, then it was proof of ownership, they won't call me back or email. I'm just so frustrated because Kia the main company actually has sent me many letters to get it fixed I call them and they told me their wasn't even a diagnostic done, they tried reaching out to them. Should I tow my car to a different dealer? I'm not sure what to do anymore, I'm almost afraid now they'll say they can't cover it for same reason, my trust is gone at this point with the dealership. I recently had a full knee replacement and getting in and out of my daughter's car has been very hard on me, I asked for a loaner and they said they don't provide them there and I have to pay. I've already put in so much money on this car at this point I feel cheated or targeted for some reason. They treat me like I'm trying to get something for free, they aren't paying out of their pocket. Please see the attached statement for a more detailed explanation. To summarize, Kia will not perform a recall to repair the knock sensor in my 2014 Kia Soul. The reason provided was that my engine needs to be replaced first. However, this recall calls for engine replacement if Kia is unable to perform the repair. The issues I am having with my engine are symptoms of a faulty knock sensor, which is the recall Kia will not repair.

I drove my car a short distance, parked, and turned off the engine. about 5 minutes after I left my car in the parking lot, we heard a loud explosion and everyone in the office stepped outside. My car became a ball of orange fire and burned for some time. It took 3 fire trucks to contain the fire and several other vehicles were damaged from the explosion. Pictures taken after the incident show the engine was gone (melted maybe). The inside of the car was also burned beyond recognition. My potential death was approximately 5 minutes after I parked my car. The gas tank did not explode; rather, the car burned from the front to the rear. This vehicle should not be on the road and the problem should be made public immediately.

WHILE DRIVING AT 55MPH,WHITE SMOKE BEGAN POURING FROM REAR OF VEHICLE FROM UNDER CAR AND EXHAUST. ALL WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON WE GOT THE CAR TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY AND IT STALLED AND WOULD NOT RESTART, WAS TOLD BY LOCAL DEALER A NEW ENGINE WAS NEEDED. This vehicle was parked prior to the incident. The 2014 Kia Soul had been backed into parking space number 28 and pulled forward midway through the space where it appears the car was put back into park. It was here the occupant of the vehicle, Mr. Keith Nash perished in a fire that consumed his 2014 Kia Soul while taking his life. The 2014 Kia Soul has an open NHTSA recall 20V-750 and would have been eligible for settlement in the Kia Engine Class Action Settlement. [XXX] (C.D. Cal.) (https://kiaengineclasssettlement.com/CheckVIN). A copy of the Sharonville Police Report, [XXX] is attached along with the Sharonville Fire Department Incident type: [XXX] to this vehicle complaint. These reports go into great detail of this event. Based on this manufacture, and their parent company Hyundai’s history of non-collision fires and the hundreds of prior complaints on file with NHTSA, one might speculate that while in motion Mr. Nash noticed smoke from under the dash and put the car back into park. An engine fire can go from nothing to fully engulfing a vehicle in seconds, and as documented with these vehicles rendering the electronic door lock inoperable (as noted in the [XXX] incident in the rented 2019 Kia Soul). In a panic he placed his foot on the accelerator causing the motor to rev to a high RPM. It was noted in the report he seemed distorted and unable to escape, this is to be expected. This 2014 Kia Soul would have been one of the 13,114,339 vehicles recalled for non-collision engine fire according to the Center for Auto Safety Hyundai/Kia Fire and Engine Recalls 2010-2024 report, updated on March 28, 2024. Kia was aware of this incident as well as the owner’s insurance carrier Allstate insurance, yet they both failed to fie a complaint with NHTSA. This behavior is inexcusable and jeopardizes the safety of every American on the road and in close proximity to these manufactures’ vehicles. Since I bought this car, I have experienced hesitation, stalling, high RPM idle, fluctuating idle, burning smell, lurching, running though gas very fast (not due to increased driving), engine noises, dash panel half lighting up, hard to accelerate when the headlights are on, or heat, or air con, odd noises..and through this entire time, check engine light comes on and off and on and off...along with my gas gauge saying empty when its full. I have reported ALL of this throughout the entire time since all bought it. Every single time they say "software update" and send me home with nothing ever fixed. EVER. Now again check engine and false fuel reading, hesitations, etc....again! This engine and fuel pump is bad and explains all of my complaints since 10kmiles. My car has under 80k mi on it, its been a lemon from the start. Hesitation with no pick-up at an intersection and noises....just beyond dangerous. I have not driven my car on the freeway in 5 years because itis not safe, but Kia NEVER checks out problems. They charge for inspection and say "software update". Its maddening.

A loud bang was heard while driving approx. 35 MPH on a clear day. The vehicle lost all power, smoke started coming from the hood area and the cabin began to fill with smoke. Driver pulled over, opened the hood and discovered the entire engine compartment in was engulfed in flames. Passersby tried to extinguish the flame with fire extinguishers, but it kept reigniting. The fire department arrived and put out the flames. This could have been life threatening if the driver did not get out of the vehicle. Amica Insurance's claims processors and an independent forensic investigator engaged by Amica Insurance have concluded the engine fire was the result of catastrophic engine failure. The forensic investigator noticed an outward bump in the oil pan and indicated this was likely the result of a separation of crankshaft and or piston rod elements. The investigator indicated he sees about 10 of these engine fires each month. Kia's special unit that addresses their engine fire problem has been notified and are dragging their feet. We have not heard anything from them after filing a claim on or about 3/22/2022. There were no warning signs prior to this catastrophic failure event. Gauges and warning systems were all normal. The engine and the engine compartment are a complete loss. Other damage occurred as the fire department worked to extinguish the fire. The forensic investigator and Amica's claims processor have declared the car a total loss.

I am unaware of what is able to be inspected of the vehicle at this time due to the amount of damage. My own and other drivers’ safety was at risk when my car began smoking and eventually caught fire. Nothing has been reproduced, inspected, or confirmed by any manufacturer, dealer, or independent contractor. I had my car in park for 2 hours before I began my trip. When I started the car up in the parking lot, the engine ran for about 10 minutes before I left. Within 2 miles of driving, the check engine light came on and the engine started smoking. I pulled the car over as soon as I could do so safely, put the car in park, turned off the ignition, and evacuated the vehicle. Soon after, the car ignited into flames under the hood and I called 911. The fire department extinguished the fire and reported to me that it was an electrical fire.

The engine is the system that is malfunctioned and yes it is available for inspection upon request. The vehicle accelerates at a slower pace than actual acceleration pressure put on pedal and then it lurches/jerks forward at a fast pace and then slows down and repeats that process over and over. Yes the problem has been confirmed. It has been inspected by the dealership. Yes the warning lamps that often illuminate are the check engine light and the oil light. They first appeared to my knowledge on 01/2020. I have been told numerous times by the Kia dealership where I get the vehicle serviced as well as Kia America Inc. Corporate Headquarters, that the engine has a malfunction and needs to be replaced. I attempted to have this problem fixed and I have missed work and spent thousands of dollars for this vehicle to work correctly.

Car has issues when starting up. When turning on, occasionally it will take time to completely turn on, its as if it’s not receiving enough power from battery, but then it will turn on with the traction control and engine light being on. I would have to turn it off and turn it back off for those light to turn off. I’ve also driven the car and it will turn off, but the light is still on, the engine just turned off. This will also happen when I’m idle and waiting to run the car. When driving, I feel something being moved and the traction light & engine light will turn on. Especially when I try to get more speed on the car. I’ve taken the car numerous times for this issue but each time they’ve told me nothing was wrong with it. I’ve replaced battery since this was what we thought the issue was initially. On the 3rd time I’ve taken the car to get fixed, i was told that the ECM is the issue. Took a month to get the piece and car fixed. Same day receiving it back, it was doing the same thing where it would not turn on properly and the traction control light is on. And now when driving the engine and traction light are both on more often.

RECALL SC200 ENGINE COMPARTMENT FIRE SAFETY HAZARD. WHILE DRIVING AFTER I GOT OFF THE INTERSTATE AND GOT OFF ON MY EXIT, I HEARD A KNOCKING NOISE IN ENGINE, THEN OIL LIGHT AND ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, I GET MY OIL CHANGED ON THE REGULAR, SMELLED REALLY HOT HAD TO TURN OFF THE CAR IT SCARED ME BECAUSE IT ALSO STARTED TO DEACCELERATE WOULD NOT GO OVER LIKE 30 40 MPH. THE NOISE WAS TERRIBLE I WAS SO SCARED THE ENGINE WAS GOING TO EXPLODE I HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED. NOW AFTER THE KIA CONSUMER TOLD ME MULTIPLE TIMES THEY APPROVED THE ENGINE REPLACEMENT THE DEALERSHIP HAD SOME ISSUE DUE TO AN ECU KSDS UPDATE THAT I WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF AND IT WAS NEVER PREFORMED. SO SHE APOLOGIZED BY TELLING ME THE INFORMATION THAT WAS PREVIOUSLY PROVIDED MUTIPLE TIMES WAS INCORRECT AND I WOULD NEED TO PAY OUT OF POCKET. I READ OVER THE SC200 ENGINE INSPECTION TEST RECALL LETTER. IT ACTUALLY STATES THEY WILL PREFORM THE KSDS ECU SOFTWARE UPDATE IN ADDITION TO THIS RECALL. NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND. SENT ANOTHER ESCALATION BECAUSE THIS IS NOT FAULT OF MY OWN THE CAR IS BROKE DOWN AND ALSO NOT MY FAULT THEY GAVE ME THE WRONG INFORMATION (SO THEY SAY.) THEN THE GAS TANK EXPLODED. I OWN A 2014 KIA SOUL + MODEL. TODAY WHILE I WAS DRIVING AROUND 35 MPH DOWN A LOCAL CITY STREET, I STARTED TO LOSE POWER IN TRAFFIC. I THOUGHT I HAD SOME BAD GAS OR SOMETHING. ABOUT A MINUTE OR TWO LATER, THE OIL LIGHT ILLUMINATED. I GOT A LITTLE NERVOUS WHILE DRIVING, SO I THREW ON MY HAZARD LIGHTS. I WAS ABOUT A 1/4 MILE FROM THE NEAREST SERVICE STATION (THE CLOSEST PLACE TO EVALUATE THE SITUATION). I PROCEEDED CAUTIOUSLY, DRIVING AROUND 15 MPH, TO THE SERVICE STATION WHEN I STARTED TO HEAR A TAPPING SOUND. I BECAME OVERLY CONCERNED THEN. I MADE IT TO THE SERVICE STATION, POPPED THE HOOD, AND CHECKED THE DIP STICK. THE OIL APPEARED TO BE AT THE PROPER LEVEL. JUST TO BE ON THE SAFE SIDE, I PURCHASED A QUART OF OIL AND POURED HALF OF THE QUART INTO THE CAR. I GOT BACK INTO THE CAR AND STARTED IT UP. IT WAS STILL TAPPING. I WAS LOCATED ABOUT A MILE AND A HALF FROM KIA ATLANTA SOUTH. SO I DECIDED TO TRY TO DRIVE TO THE DEALERSHIP. UPON PULLING OUT OF THE SERVICE STATION'S PARKING LOT, MY CAR STALLED THEN SHUT DOWN. THE BATTERY LIGHT AND OTHER SERVICE LIGHTS POPPED ON. I COASTED YOU THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND CALLED ROADSIDE ASSISTANT. MY KIA SOUL HAS APPROXIMATELY 75,553 MILES ON IT. I GET MY OIL CHANGED REGULARLY. I WAS CONFUSED AS TO WHY MY CAR WAS MALFUNCTIONING LIKE THIS. THERE NO SIGNS OF SMOKE OR ANYTHING. MY CAR JUST STOPPED. I HAD TO WAIT 2.5 HOURS ON A TOW TRUCK. THE GUY TOWED MY CAR TO KIA ATLANTA SOUTH IN JONESBORO, GEORGIA. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT WAS CLOSED. I HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL IN THE MORNING TO FIND OUT WHAT'S GOING ON. ON 10/25/2017 WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, MY 2014 KIA SOUL CAUGHT ON FIRE - SPONTANEOUSLY AND WITHOUT WARNING (NO APPARENT ISSUES IN OPERATING THE CAR, WARNING LIGHTS ON THE DASH, ETC.). TWO FELLOW MOTORISTS HONKED THEIR HORNS AND FLASHED THEIR LIGHTS IN AN EFFORT TO SIGNAL ME. THE BACK WINDSHIELD BEGAN TO 'FOG UP' DUE TO THE HEAT/FIRE, AND WE IMMEDIATELY PULLED OFF THE HIGHWAY. IN AN EFFORT TO ESCAPE THIS EMERGENCY, I ALONG WITH MY SON, WHO WAS DRIVING, IMMEDIATELY GOT OUT OF THE VEHICLE AND MOVED A SAFE DISTANCE AWAY BEFORE CALLING 911. AT THIS POINT FLAMES WERE COMING FROM BOTH UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE AND FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. THE CAR WAS SOON ENGULFED IN FLAMES. MULTIPLE FIRE ENGINES RESPONDED TO THE SCENE IN EXTINGUISHING THE FIRE AND SECURING THE SCENE. THE CAR WAS A COMPLETE LOSS (SEE PICTURES ATTACHED IN THE REPORT). IT IS IMPORTANT TO NOTE THAT MY 2014 KIA SOUL WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL KIA DEALERSHIP BETWEEN 10/17/2017 - 10/19/2017 FOR DIAGNOSTICS DUE TO LIGHTS (INTERNAL AND ON THE DASH) FLICKERING AND AN ABNORMAL SOUND. THE DEALERSHIP'S SERVICE DEPARTMENT REPLACED THE BATTERY, PERFORMED A SAFETY INSPECTION, BUT WERE UNABLE TO IDENTIFY THE FLICKERING LIGHTS ISSUE, NOR WERE THEY ABLE TO IDENTIFY THE SOURCE OF THE ABNORMAL SOUND ALTHOUGH THEY DID ACKNOWLEDGE ITS PRESENCE. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT RELEASED THE VEHICLE TO ME AND ADVISED ME TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE TO SEE WHAT HAPPENED. MY CAR WAS BROUGHT HOME, PARKED, AND NOT DRIVEN UNTIL THE INCIDENT ON 10/25/2017.

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED BY THE INSURANCE ADJUSTER THAT THE SUBFRAME WAS BENT AND THE CHASSIS WAS FRACTURED DUE TO THE CRASH. NEITHER THE DEALER NOR THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 46,000.

AS I WAS DRIVING I HAD A SUDDEN STOP AND MY CHILD WAS THROWN FROM HER SEAT AS FAR AS TO THE MIDDLE CONSOLE FROM THE BACK MIDDLE SEATBELT. UPON INVESTIGATING WHY THIS HAPPENED I NOTICED THAT THE SEATBELT RETENTION WAS IMPROPERLY WORKING. AS YOU PULL IT OUT IT WILL NOT RETRACT BACK INTO THE SEAT AS DESIGNED. I WAS SCARED AND HYSTERICAL BECAUSE LORD FORBID IF THERE WAS A COLLISION MY CHILD COULD HAVE BEEN EJECTED FROM THE VEHICLE AND THROWN OUT THE FRONT WINDSHIELD. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP TO SEE IF COULD GET IT IN THE SHOP THAT DAY MARCH 31,2014 AND THEY WERE SO SWAMPED THEY MADE ME AN APPOINTMENT FOR TODAY APRIL 2, 2014. My check engine light came on and took it to Coastal Kia. Was told the catalytic converter needed to be replaced. After checking it’s not on the recall list but why are some on recall and not others. It started with the light at 127,000 miles. At first it would only stay on for a few days and then go off. Now it stays on all the time. I’m going to have it replaced but trying to find out why only some of the 2014 Souls are under recall

4 TIMES WILE DRIVING THE ENGINE STARTED TO SMOKE SO BAD THE CARS BEHIND HAD TO STOP. THE VERY FIRST TIME WAS 6 WEEKS AFTER WE BOUGHT THE CAR. TOOK IT TO THE KIA DEALER THEY RECREATED THE ISSUE AND SAID THAT THE PROBLEM WAS A FLAW IN THE ENGINE HEAD. KIA SAID I HAD TO WAIT TILL THEY MAKE A RECALL. 3 MONTHS AFTER THAT ISSUE IT HAPPENED AGAIN, WE WERE SITTING IN AN INTERSECTION WHEN A TRUCK WAS GOING TO HIT US. I FLORED THE GAS AND A BUNCH A SMOKE CAME OUT IT BOGED BUT WE GOT OUT OF THE WAY IN TIME. KIA TOOK THE VAULVE COVER OFF AND IT LOOKED LIKE TAR. HOW CAN THAT BE POSIBLE WHEN IT WAS NOT EVEN DRIVEN THE FIRST 3,000 MILES FOR THE OIL CHANGE??? WE ARE PAYING FOR A CAR THAT HAS BEEN SITTING IN MY DRIVE WAY FOR OVER A YEAR NOW. WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY THE CAR TURNED OFF. I WAS GOING AROUND 70 MPH AND NOTICED WHEN THE LIGHTS ON THE DASH AND RADIO WENT OUT. I WAS DRIVING ON INTERSTATE 75 NORTH IN MARIETTA, GA WHEN MY VEHICLE SUDDENLY LOST POWER IN FRONT OF AN 18 WHEELER. I WAS ABLE TO NAVIGATE OFF THE NEXT EXIT. THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS LIT ON MY DASH AND THERE HAD NOT BEEN ANY LIT PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT. JUNE 2020 MY CATALYTIC CONVERTER WAS REPLACED UNDER RECALL #SC176. ALL OF THE SYMPTOMS POINT TOWARDS ENGINE DAMAGE THAT OCCURRED PRIOR TO THE RECALL REPAIR.

TAKING A DAY TRIP TO THE CRAYOLA FACTORY, WE WERE 10 MILES FROM OUR DESTINATION WHEN WE FIRST SMELLED SMOKE THEN SAW IT COMING IN THROUGH THE VENTS AND FROM THE FRONT PASSENGER CORNER OF THE VEHICLE. I FIRST CHECKED THE GAUGES TO SEE IF IT WAS OVER HEATED, NOTHING. POPPED THE HOOD AND THAT'S WHEN WE REALIZED IT WAS ON FIRE. WE RACED TO GET THE 2 SMALL KIDS OUT OF THE VEHICLE AS THE FLAMES WERE STARTING TO OVER TAKE THE FRONT HOOD. WE WERE ABLE TO SECURE THE KIDS AND GET FAR ENOUGH AWAY FROM THE VEHICLE BUT 3 MINUTES LATER THE CAR WAS GUTTED. NOTHING BUT METAL LEFT ON THE INSIDE. AS I DROVE HOME I HEARD AN UNUSUAL SOUND COMING FROM MY ENGINE. THE OIL PRESSURE LIGHT BEGAN TO FLICKER ON AND OFF. ONCE HOME I CHECKED MY OIL LEVEL AND I HAD NO OIL SHOWING ON THE DIP STICK. I FILLED THE OIL RESERVOIR WITH THE CORRECT OIL TYPE BUT NOW THE INDICATOR LIGHT WAS SOLID AND NO LONGER FLASHING. DRIVING HOME A FEW MILES AFTER GETTING OIL MY VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE AND I ALMOST LOST CONTROL OF STEERING TWICE. NO SMOKE WAS COMING FROM THE ENGINE BUT MY VEHICLE IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE. Brakes failed my husband (primary driver of the KIA vehicle) came home from work on 8/19/2024. He pulled off at the local mechanic. Brakes were rusty and there was rust in the brake line so we had to replace. Rusty brakeline became a voluntary recall because it was not just our car that had this problem. We have been going back and forth with Kia since June notice (their case #XXX) and they are blaming the criteria of their voluntary recall with the NHTSA that says that you can only get reimbursed if you can return the parts and document that they were the original manufacturer's parts that were replaced. The contact owns a 2014 Kia Soul. The contact received notifications of NHTSA Campaign Numbers: 22V096000 (AIR BAGS), 15V123000 (VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL), 17V608000 (STEERING), and 19V120000 (ENGINE, ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). The contact stated that while driving 60 MPH, the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended while depressing the accelerator pedal. In addition, the vehicle jerked and vibrated abnormally. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle idled down to 5 MPH. The contact continued to drive; however, the contact had to pull over several times. The contact drove to the mother's residence. The vehicle was towed to the local mechanic, who diagnosed that the catalytic converter was clogged or had melted and damaged the engine. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was informed of the failure and the contact was informed that the vehicle was missing several updates, and the dealer refused to perform the recall repairs. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but denied assistance with the recall repairs. The failure mileage was approximately 67,000.

The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact stated while the vehicle was driving at various speeds, stationary, or parked, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The independent mechanic diagnosed the vehicle with catalytic converter failure. The vehicle was repaired. The contact stated that three years after the initial repair, the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact then took the vehicle to an independent mechanic where the battery was replaced; a week, the contact stated that corrosion had formed on the battery and that her vehicle had stalled while traveling at 45 MPH. She stated that several warning lights illuminated the instrument panel as the failure occurred. The contact restarted the vehicle and return home; the next day, the independent mechanic came to her home and performed another battery replacement. This car has experienced paint issues due to poor bonding of the primer. The paint is literally peeling off the car in sheets. It has been going on for the last 1.5 years , and Kia states that it is not their problem. I have worked patiently with them for almost a year as they have instructed me to go, and get paint estimates. After this was completed they then stated the case was determined “ No Goodwill”.As far as they were concerned ; they determined they were not going to pay to have the car painted.

I HAD MY CAR TOWED TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP. I GOT HOME AND THE NEXT DAY THE MECHANIC CALLED AND SAID I WOULD NEED A NEW ENGINE THAT IT BLEW A HEAD GASKET VALVE. HE RECOMMENDED CONTACTING KIA AS THERE HAVE BEEN RECALLS ON THIS CAR FOR THIS PROBLEM. ONCE I PICKED UP MY CAR I CONTACTED THE KIA CORPORATE OFFICE AND SPOKE TO ANOTHER YOUNG LADY EXPLAINING TO HER THE SITUATION AND SHE WAS VERY RUDE UNPROFESSIONAL BECAUSE SHE TOLD ME THAT IT KIA ONLY MANUFACTURES THE CAR BUT THEY ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR WHEN A PART SUCH AS A CATALYTIC CONVERTER MAY GO BAD IN A CAR AND THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO FOR ME. SHE THEN STATED THAT THE NEXT TIME I PURCHASE A CAR I SHOULD MAKE SURE I UNDERSTAND THE WARRANTY COVERAGE BEFORE I PURCHASE THE VEHICLE. NEEDLESS TO SAY MY CATALYTIC CONVERTER NEEDS REPAIRING. I ALSO HAD PROBLEMS WITH MY TIRES AND I EXPLAINED TO THE YOUNG LADY THIS AS WELL. ONE MORNING GOING TO WORK A YOUNG MAN STOPPED ME ON THE HIGHWAY TO TELL ME MY TIRE WAS FLAT I IMMEDIATELY BUT AIR IN THE TIRE AND WENT TO HOLLY KIA AND TOLD THE SAME PARTS SERVICE SUPERVISOR WHAT THE PROBLEM HE TOOK MY CAR IN AND HAD THE TECHNICIAN LOOK AT MY TIRES I ASKED HIM COULD HE HAVE THEM LOOK AT ALL THE TIRES BECAUSE I AM PUTTING AIR IN THE TIRES EVERY OTHER DAY. I WAS DRIVING. I CAME TO A RED LIGHT. THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN. THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME WENT. I PUSHED ON GAS. THE PERSON N FRONT OF ME HIT BRAKES. I HIT MY BRAKES, FELT A HUGE JOLT. AFTER REACHING THE 80000 MILE MARK I NOTICED A SLIGHT VIBRATION IN THE CAR THAT VARIED WITH THE SPEED OF THE VEHICLE. I EVENTUALLY HAD THE TIRES REPLACED AND BALANCED BUT THE VIBRATION DIDN'T GO AWAY. AFTER ELEVATING THE CAR ON IT'S JACK STAND I HAND TURNED THE REAR WHEELS AND LOOKED CAREFULLY. I NOTICED THERE WAS A SLIGHT WOBBLE. I REPLACED BOTH REAR WHEEL HUBS AND THE PROBLEM WAS RESOLVED. THE FACT THE HUBS DIDN'T EVEN LAST UNTIL 100K MILES WAS BOTHERSOME THOUGH. I PICKED IT UP AND DROVE IT ON THE HWY AND IT STALLED AT 75MPH AND TOTALLY HAD NOTHING AND HAD TO MANEUVER THE CAR OFF THE HWY WITH MY GRAND KIDS IN THE CAR. The contact's neighbor owned a 2014 Kia Soul. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked in his neighbor’s garage, another neighbor noticed smoke coming from the walls of the garage. The contact then stated that his neighbors were awakened by another neighbor alerting them of the fire. The contact’s neighbor was able to exit the home and notified the fire department that extinguished the fire. No injuries were sustained. No medical attention was required. A police and fire report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a tow lot and deemed a total loss by the insurance company. The vehicle was inspected by an investigator who determined that the fire was started in the engine compartment. Additionally, the contact stated that prior to the failure, on three separate occasions, while his neighbors were driving at undisclosed speeds, the vehicle stalled without warning. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that oil had leaked profusely from an unknown location and the catalytic converter had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired three times. The contact stated that the vehicle was repaired however, the failure recurred. The contact then stated that upon research, the VIN was included in the NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V750000 (Engine). Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer were notified of the failure. The contact owned a 2014 Kia Soul. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 60 MPH, a pinging-type noise was heard coming from the engine compartment along with gray smoke. The vehicle began to lose automotive power and reduced speed before the engine stalled. The contact exited the vehicle and flames and smoke were present coming from under the hood. The fire department was called to the scene and extinguished the flames. A fire and police report was taken at the scene and the vehicle was later towed away. During the incident, the vehicle was destroyed. The contact also indicated that during the incident the front driver's side door could not be manually opened from inside the vehicle and the key fob was used to open the door. I was driving the speed limit of 60 mph and all of a sudden it sputtered and hesitated; stalling out while attempting to accelerate going lower speed. My vehicle luckily got a parking spot at an automotive repair shop. No warning signal illuminated during my driving incident. The next morning the engine wouldn't start, but eventually they get it to start. They got the "Check Engine Message Center Warning" showing during Road Test. The automotive repair shop did a diagnostic test on it saying that the technician diagnosed the problems to a bad fuel injector fouling out the spark plug #4 cylinder recommending to replace all 4 fuel injectors and spark plugs, my transmission has no dipstick, OE Factory Maintenance due and is required, tires were getting weather cracked and recommending tires soon, technician noted that the car had some oil leaks and needed to be diagnosed further, cabin air filter missing and need to install a new filter; recommend cabin filter replacement service: includes anti-bacterial duct service, Tune Up Items: Fuel induction service recommending tune up labor 3-part fuel induction system service to where tune up is due/overdue by mileage if not already done so, Engine Oil was Over Filled Dark/Contaminated with Fuel in Oil and recommended oil change after changing Fuel Injectors and Plugs (BUT, I had my oil changed about a week before all of this occurred), Air Filter: OE Maintenance Interval Dirty and recommended installing new engine air filter, Brake Fluid: OEM recommended service interval/Brake Fluid Exchange service recommended due by mileage if not already done so. I purchased this vehicle December 10, 2022 and then this all occurred after just 4 month of purchasing this vehicle. It took 3 weeks to fix this vehicle. I had this fixed and still I have to wonder how safe is it really? I'm concerned so much so that I plan on taking this vehicle to a Kia Dealership appointment tomorrow June 17, 2023 to have a Multi-Point Inspection.

Friday January 20th, 2023 while on the freeway my 2014 Kia Soul with less than 75,000 miles spontaneously caught on fire. While merging over to the side of the road the breaks and throttle were inoperable. I was very fortunate that I did not suffer any injuries though it was a very close call. My safety was put at risk as I was unable to maneuver the car over to the side of the road while maintaining the flow of traffic due to the accelerator failure. Once near the shoulder of the road I was unable to stop the car due to the breaks failure which increased the amount of time I was exposed to the burning car and smoke. The problem has not been reproduced or inspected by the dealer, police, and insurance. There were no warning light before or after the fire was identified. The car was professionally maintained and was in great condition prior to this event.

The rear windshield in my 2014 Kia Soul shattered upon getting into it and just closing the driver’s side front door. The car had been parked for about 11 hours and was not running at the time - I hadn’t even started it yet. There was no sign or indication of anything or anyone hitting the window. I am now finding a number of posts online where this is happening. One person posted that their Kia Soul rear window shattered twice in 4 months! I live in Rhode Island and it is December so temperature shifts can be pretty extreme at times and my Kia is usually parked on the side of the road in full Sun. I’m just glad no one was hurt and this didn’t happen to me while driving on the highway. I am the second owner of the vehicle and I bought it with low mileage. I also pretty rarely open the hatch back and always try not to slam any of the doors although it does happen occasionally especially when joined by other passengers. This does appear to be a fairly widespread issue and I hope that Kia is forced to fully address it as it does pose a potentially dangerous safety issue.

I recently had the engine related "recalls" done to my 2014 kia Soul car. The dealership made no mention of my bad engine noises on the service invoice or when he called me to come pick up the car that had "passed" the engine test and the ecu update. My faint engine noise is escalating greatly following the recall completion. After speaking a second time with the service advisor at Kia, he did admit the noise was present and said it was not my fault but, no coverage was available for me. My car was already over the extended warrantee mileage cap back when I received the initial recall notice so it seems I was always to be out of any engine repair coverage by Kia. I have a nice car in which I have overspent effort and money maintaining the engine better than the manufactures recommendations and it is basically junk now due to the engine prematurely breaking down. It sits in the street and I am without my car and I am far from alone as a Kia Soul owner. A car that is worth many thousands of dollars to me running is now worth only about $200. to the junk man. You can't find a good, affordable car to replace it with today. My question is: Why would the 2.0 Kia Soul owners not have the same, unlimited mileage warrantee on their engines which the other Kia and Hyundia owner's engines have received for these defective engines? I think it is criminal, literally stealing money from people by selling a defective item and not compensating the owners for that defect. this action also forces the customer to spend more money on another vehicle, way before the time it should be necessary to do so. I could have easily put 50-75K more miles on this Kia Soul car if it were not for the bad engine.

Both dealers informed the contact that the next available appointment was on December 20th. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. Upon investigation, the contact learned that there were two recalls associated with the VIN; NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V608000 (Steering) and 19V120000 (Engine, Engine and Engine Cooling). The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 90,000.

The contact owns 2014 Kia Soul. The contact stated her daughter's boyfriend was driving approximately 70 MPH with her daughter in the passenger’s seat, when they noticed smoke in the rearview mirror. The driver checked around to see if the smoke was coming from another vehicle and determined that the smoke was coming the vehicle he was driving. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact stated that the driver pulled over to the side of the road and exited the vehicle and noticed fire coming from under the hood of the vehicle. The contact stated that the fire was extinguished with the assistance of the Fire Department. The contact stated that prior to the failure, the vehicle had been taken to the local dealer and repaired under an unknown recall. After retrieving the vehicle, the contact stated occasionally the low oil level warning light would illuminate. There were no injuries sustained. The contact did not know whether a police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a tow lot, then it was towed to the dealer per the manufacturer's instructions. The nearest dealer declined to offer the any repairs or service on the vehicle since the vehicle was severely burned. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 105,000.

During the crash, the front end sustained severe damage and the vehicle was destroyed but the driver-side air bag did not deploy and the front driver-side seat belt malfunctioned and did not secure the occupant causing the driver's head to make contact with the steering wheel. The driver sustained a head injury that required medical treatment. A police report was taken at the scene and the vehicle was towed away. The cause of the failure was not determined and the local dealer and manufacturer were not notified of the incident. The failure mileage was 94,000.

The vehicle had a strange smell ever since we got it a few years back. Earlier in the month, the headlight and dashlight would flicker with the turn signal. We looked it up and set up an apppointment with a local Kia dealership for recall on this issue. Then this week, the engine suddenly quit while the car was parked. The vehicle wouldn't start at all. Kia was notified and they said that there was another recall on engine SC200 on this vehicle that was just announced earlier this year. Online lookup also revealed that the smell issue can be from burning oil or a leak into catalytic converter. Other Kia cars from the same years have also said to have had these issues. Then an OBD II check showed the codes 7E8 and 7E9 which has been noted online by other customers as engine problem recall for which Kia has replaced their engine free of charge.

THE RECALL FOR FAULTY CATALYTIC CONVERTERS WHICH CAN LEAD TO ENGINE DAMAGE IS WHAT IS STATED UNDER THE ADVISORY. WHEN MY KIA SOUL WAS LOOKED AT BY A LOCAL KIA DEALERSHIP IT WAS FOUND THAT THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE REPAIRS FELL UNDER THE RECALL AT NO COST TO ME. I'M RELIEVED IT'S BEING TAKEN CARE OF, BUT DISAPPOINTED WITH KIA'S CUSTOMERS SERVICE. MY CONCERNS ARE ABOUT SAFETY. I WENT TO THE KIA DEALERSHIP AND THEY DID THE RECALL ON MY ENGINE. THE CUYLER DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THAT THEY WOULD NEED TO REPLACE THE COP ECU LOGIC AND THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER. THEY TOLD ME THAT THE ENGINE DOESN'T NEED TO BE REPLACED. I GOT THE RECALL DONE ON A FRIDAY., AND THE NEXT DAY MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS BACK ON AND MY OIL LIGHT KEEPS COMING ON. A WOMAN IN FRONT OF ME SLAMMED ON HER BRAKES AND WHEN I TRIED TO GET OVER IT'S ALMOST LIKE THE WHEEL HAD COMPLETELY LOCKED BUT UP BUT I COULD STILL TURN IT, IF THAT MAKES SENSE. AT 10000MI, THIS CAR LOST PICK- UP, THEN CHARGING OUTLETS FAILED. BY 30000MI, THE BRAKES WERE MUSHY AND WEAK, THE ENGINE MAKES NOISE, STEERING ISSUES AND WEIRD SMELLS STARTED TO OCCUR. BY 45000MI, THE BRAKE LIGHT FAILED, VIBRATION/SHAKING, HESITATION AND LURCHING (ON ITS OWN), GAS MILLAGE WAS CUT IN HALF, RMPS/IDLE UNUSUALLY HIGH, FAULTY/ FAILED SENSORS, FUEL GAUGE FAILURE, HEATING/BLOWER FAILURE. DEALERSHIPS WILL NOT LOOK INTO ANYTHING WITHOUT A "CODE" TRIPPING, AND I WAS TOLD BY THEIR MECHANIC THAT KIA CORPORATE WILL NOT ALLOW ANY INVESTIGATION OF ISSUES WITHOUT A DIAGNOSTIC CODE, SO MY WARRANTY WOUN'T COVER THE HIGH PRICE OF FINDING THE ISSUES. I GET IN THE CAR, START IT UP AND THE NOISE AND REV IS NOT NORMAL. I DRIVE 10 FEET AND THE CAR STARTS SHAKING AND MAKING NOISE. WHEN I TRIED TO TURN ON THE HEAT, LOUD NOISES STARTED UNDER THE HOOD, AND THE ENGINE WOULD REV, WHEN THE CAR REVVED, THE HEAT WOULD KICK ON FOR 2 SEC THEN FALL OUT AGAIN. I HAD THAT FIXED AND JUST HAD A RECALL SERVICE AND REALIZED THIS WAS SOMETHING I ALREADY PAID FOR, WHICH I'VE REQUESTED A REFUND. IN BETWEEN THOSE INSTANCES, I HAD BOTH HEADLIGHTS STOP WORKING, IN THE DARK, WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON A POORLY LIT HWY 302. I HAD THOSE REPLACED AND THE DRIVER SIDE WENT OUT AGAIN, AT NIGHT, WHILE I WAS DRIVING. I WAS TOLD THAT THE HEADLIGHT CONNECTIONS WERE MELTED. SHORTLY AFTER BUYING MY NEW 2014 KIA SOUL IN MARCH 2014, I NOTICED THAT ACCELERATION DELAYED USUALLY FROM A STOP LIGHT, STOP SIGN OR STOP/GO TRAFFIC AND WOULD NEED TO PUMP GAS FOR CAR TO MOVE THEN IT WILL TAKE OFF QUICK AND ALMOST BECOME OUT OF CONTROL, ALSO FEELS AS THOUGH LOSE POWER STEERING AND PROPER BRAKING. DEALER SERVICE COULD NOT FIND ANY ERROR CODES ON SCAN SO NO FIX. AFTER 2ND ATTEMPT TO LOOK AT PROBLEM I WAS TOLD BY SERVICE MANAGER THAT IF I WAS DRIVING IN ECO MODE THAT COULD BE THE ISSUE. IF KIA KNOWS THIS WHY EVEN OFFER THAT MODE? I ALSO HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THE PASSENGER FRONT SEAT BELT THAT ONLY ALLOWS SLIGHT MOVEMENT BEFORE IT LOCKS TIGHT AND DOES NOT RETRACT WITHOUT UNLATCHING COMPLETELY. UPON INSPECTING OTHER CARS ON LOT WITH SERVICE MANAGER WE FOUND THE OPTIMA, SOUL, SPORTAGE ALL DO THE SAME THING ON PASSENGER FRONT ONLY ALLOWING EXTENDING THE SEATBELT/OR MOVEMENT ABOUT HALFWAY FORWARD BEFORE IT LOCKS AND WILL NOT RETRACT. THE GAS MILEAGE LISTED ON WINDOW TAG WAS OVER-INFLATED AT 27 MPG IT SEEMS TO AVERAGE CLOSER TO 23-24 MPG. FINALLY I WAS IN AN ACCIDENT WHICH I REAR-ENDED SOMEONE AT STOPLIGHT AND WHILE I FELT THERE SHOULD HAVE BEEN PLENTY OF TIME TO STOP THE BRAKES DID NOT FEEL AS THOUGH THEY WORKED AT ALL, THE CAR JUST KEPT GOING, THE WEATHER WAS DRY. IT WAS SUGGESTED BY A BRAKE & TIRE SPECIALIST TO GO TO DEALER FOR FULL INSPECTION, BUT I HESITATE TO RETURN TO KIA DO TO ALL MY OTHER ISSUES THAT CAN'T BE FIGURED OUT BECAUSE THE DIAGNOSTICS CAN NEVER FIND AN ERROR CODE.
