Engine Failed Mid Drive. Started with knocking sound then went into limp mode and then shut off and did not want to start. Car failed in the middle of traffic and could of injured me and others. I've read of other failures of the same models but for some reason the 2017 model isn't eligible for the settlement even though the same issues are present in the 2017 Kia Soul Models. Had to have my vehicle towed home.

To Whom It May Concern, I am submitting this complaint to report that a Kia dealership of garden grove, ca falsely recorded a safety recall as “completed” on my 2019 Kia Soul Upon review from another kia dealer, I discovered that the recall repair — essential to prevent engine failure — was never actually performed. My engine has now failed catastrophically (broken connecting rod at 128,600 miles), consistent with the known risks that recall was meant to address. This misrepresentation by the dealership not only endangered my safety but also undermines the recall process intended to protect consumers. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate this matter and ensure accountability for the dealer and manufacturer. To answer your questions more directly. : 1.Connecting rod exploded out of engine. Kia is aware of thier faulty torque on said part. 2 My wife was driving on the free way with her kid at the time and could have caused a major accident. 3.yes they had a class action lawsuit against the recall. 4. The car is waiting at kia dealer. I was told that the update they didnt do that was put out in 2022 was not done when bought and brought to said dealer in January 2024 and that another recall was said to be done but was not done . 5. There was a knocking or shaking but when asking the mechanics hired by the dealer they said it was the rotors . We replace the rotors and a week later the connecting rod shot out of the engine.

Perform check engine light diagnosis. Heard knocking noise at any speed even at idle. Added 2 quarts of oil. P0420 catalyst system efficiency below threshold Bank 1. The engine is consuming too much oil and has a noise coming from the valve train. Also, a slight rod bearing knock. Our auto mechanic had told us to check with Kia Dealership because it is a known issue on this vehicle. But the Kia declined to repair.

While driving on June 30, 2025, the engine gave a loud clunking noise, shuttered and shut down. I was able to pull over to the side of the road safely and not impede traffic, however this happened on a public roadway and had the potential of causing different results. I had no warning lights on the dash, no check engine lights came on, no LOW OIl light and/or no other warning signals appeared. I was able to restart the vehicle and it shuttered but was able to drive it at a low reduced speed to get it into a more safer place. The vehicle was towed to the dealership the following morning. The dealership was able to inspect the vehicle and confirmed it was a total engine failure. The dealership has done all the service maintenance since the date of purchase as a new car, with the exception of 3 oil changes throughout the past 8 years. The documentation show all maintenance was done in an approved licensed facility and in the prefered time frames requested by the manufacture. The vehicle has a 150,000 mi warranty and at the time of the incident the mileage was 74,000. Kia is denying the claim and is refusing to replace the engine. I am uncertain of the next steps to take at this point, referring to the Attorney General in my state for advise for product liability claim to hold the manufacture responsible for it's defective engine which has been an issue for this make and model.

I was driving and all a sudden my engine light came on and the car started like stuttering with no power very scarey. The mechanic said the 3 power train warranties on my car would not fix he said I need a new engine and I still owe like 12000 ugg.

I have a white 2017 Kia Soul. I bought it new in 2017. The paint is peeling off really badly. Something is not right. This is not wear and tear paint peeling it is massive all around the car, especially the hood. The whole hood is peeling. My friend has an old 2011 Kia and his paint is fine. Please help

After having some minor body work done (nowhere near the engine) I got my car back with the engine light on. Body shop said they hooked it up to a scanner and it just needed a tune up. Then while driving, the oil light began flickering off and on, so I checked the oil. It was fine. Then shortly after the engine started knocking. The knocking got louder and faster the faster I went. I had it towed to a mechanic from my work, and when he checked it, he said that he found a piece of the engine IN the oil pan and that the engine would have to be completely replaced. It only had about 80,000 miles on it and was serviced regularly. I bought it used with 5000 so the 100000 mile warranty was not applicable.

The contact owned a 2017 Kia Soul. The contact stated that while in stop-and-go traffic, an 18-wheeler crashed into her vehicle and sent the vehicle into a guardrail. The air bags failed to deploy upon impact and the contact hit her head on the driver-side window. She was taken to the hospital where she was treated for a fractured skull and a concussion. The whereabouts of the other driver were unknown. A police report was filed which noted that the guardrail was damaged and in need of repair. The vehicle was towed to an independent tow yard and was deemed a total loss. After the accident, the contact received a recall notice for NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V031000(Air Bags) which she linked to the failure. The manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle was destroyed. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.

On August 20, 2022, I was driving my 2017 KIA Soul and was slammed into in the front of my car, at full speed, by a KIA sedan which had sped across my path in an attempt to make an illegal U-turn across a highway. NO AIRBAGS DEPLOYED in my KIA OR in the other errant KIA's car! I suffered physical injuries upon impact to the chest and sternum and was removed from the scene by ambulance. Since that awful crash, I have read a number of articles that KIA is in the process of issuing recalls for airbag malfunctions in their cars, beginning with the year 2017. This must be made known and corrected!

Had oil changed and noticed car was stalling. Went to get car checked out and there was no oil. Replaced oil and car still had the same issue. Was notified that there was an issue with these cars and burning oil. Engine was replaced but car still has issues.

The car will burn through almost a full 4 quarts of oil within 1000 miles. From reading online oil consumption issues are a common problem for 2014 through 2017 Kia Souls, but even some later models are having similar issues. Beyond the issue of the car burning that much oil that quick, the check oil light does not fully turn on even when the car was as the dealership put it, "Bone Dry" meaning that I as the driver had no idea that my engine could have seized up or stalled out at any moment. Also due to the fact that Kia Souls have an oil pressure driven timing chain the low oil issue extends down another level making engine stalling that much more likely. Though the most recent incendent occurred at around 94000 miles ot has been an ongoing problem for around 20000 miles.

GOT IN MY CAR SEPTEMBER 2020 AND HEARD KNOCKING UNDER HOOD. DRIVE IT TO THE PENZOIL LESS THAN 15 MINUTES AWAY AND I KNOCK GOT FASTER AND LOUDER. PENZOIL TOLD ME PARK IT AND TOW TO NEAREST KIA. EXTREMELY DISHEARTENING I'M 23 Y/O SINGLE MOTHER. NOW WITH A BROKEN CAR. 16000 IN DEBT FOR A YEAR AND HALF WORTH OF DRIVING LESS THAN 80000 ON ODOMETER JEEESHHH KIA . HOPEFULLY WE GET RECALL SOON

OIL LIGHT CAME ON, CHECKED OIL AND IT WAS LOW. ADDED OIL. THE NEXT DAY THE CAR LOSS COMPLETE POWER AND STALLED ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. ENGINE MADE A LOUD SOUND AND STOPPED. HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO OUR DEALER AND WAS TOLD THE LOWER PART OF THE ENGINE BLOWED AT 82,509 MILES. REGULAR MAINTENANCE WAS DONE AT A DEALERSHIP IN OUR TOWN. EXTENDED WARRANTY THAT WAS PURCHASED HAD WENT OUT 1000 MILES BACK AND NOW WE ARE TOLD THE REGULAR POWER TRAIN WARRANTY DOESN'T COVER BECAUSE WE WERE THE 2ND OWNER. WE WERE TOLD ABOUT $9000 TO FIX THE CAR. I HAVE CONTACTED KIA AND BECAUSE THEY DONT HAVE ANY ISSUES WITH THIS VIN# THEY CAN'T HELP. EVEN THOUGH WHEN YOU GOOGLE ENGINE PROBLEMS WITH THIS YEAR THERE ARE PLENTY OF COMPLAINT ALL OVER THE INTERNET. IF THESE CARS ARE GIVING SO MUCH TROUBLE, WHY ISN'T THERE SOMETHING THEY CAN DO. I WORK WITH 2 PEOPLE THAT OWN KIA'S OF OTHER MODELS AND HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AND THEIR MOTOR WAS REPLACE FREE OF CHARGE. I NEED HELP, PLEASE. WE FRONT HAVE THE MONEY TO REPLACE THE MOTOR AND MY DAUGHTER STILL OWES OVER $9000 ON THIS CAR.

The alternator was replaced, but the independent mechanic declined to repair the catalytic converter. The contact was advised to consult with the dealer about the catalytic converter repair. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related it to NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V120000 (Engine and Engine Cooling), but the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 106,000.

The contact stated that several unknown warning lights were illuminated. The contact was able to safely guide the vehicle off the highway. The contact was unable to restart the vehicle. The contact had the vehicle towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the catalytic converter had dislodged and detached from the exhaust causing a clog in the exhaust system. Additionally, the detached catalytic converter released hot exhaust against the fire wall causing the engine to stall. The vehicle was repaired. The vehicle continued to experience the failure. The contact later drove the vehicle to a dealer, where it was not yet diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000. 2017,Kia soul plus brakes failed with no warning and we crashed into an intersection and hit a dump truck. I suffered severe broken bones including a compound femur fracture and broken arm. I was trapped in the car for over a hour. Both my arm and leg have rods and pins now. I also suffer from severe ptsd and nightmares. I hospitalized from 6/25-7/4, and in a nursing home until 7/4-8/1, learning to walk again. I received the voluntary recall letter on 7/11when I was in the nursing home. It was sent too little too late. I’m contacting an attorney and Kia deserves to pay. Kozlowski towing took the care away. I do not know if they still have it

ON FRIDAY, APRIL 20, 2018, ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY, TRAFFIC BEGAN TO SLOW AND AS I APPLIED MY BRAKES, THEY FELT AS THOUGH THEY TRAVELED TO THE FLOOR, AND EVEN THOUGH I HAD PLENTY OF SPACE TO STOP, I WAS UNABLE TO AND WAS IN AN ACCIDENT. THE CAR WAS REPAIRED BY A NON-KIA DEALER VIA MY INSURANCE. WITHIN TWO DAYS OF ME HAVING THE VEHICLE BACK IN MY POSSESSION, IT HAPPENED AGAIN, THIS TIME WHILE COMING TO A SLOW GRADUAL STOP AT A LIGHT. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP, PRICE KIA, TO REPORT THE CONCERN. AFTER MULTIPLE TEST DRIVES, THEY FELT THE BRAKES TRAVELING TOO FAR AND REPLACED THE MASTER CYLINDER, WITH THE CLAIM THAT THIS COULD BE THE "ONLY POSSIBLE CAUSE." OVER THE NEXT FEW MONTHS, THE CAR HAS BEEN BACK INTO THE DEALERSHIP FOR THE SAME ISSUE; IT HAD NOT BEEN RESOLVED WITH THE REPLACEMENT OF THE MASTER CYLINDER. PRICE KIA NOW CLAIMS THE ISSUE ISN'T RELOCATABLE AND REFUSES TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. SHOULD FURTHER DOCUMENTATION BE NEEDED THE WORK ORDERS, ACCIDENT REPORT, AND OTHER DOCUMENTATION CAN BE PROVIDED.

Car burns through oil like no other. I won’t even be half way through my 3000 miles and with no warning the car will be low on oil and stalling in the middle of Turning. Usually when turning left. Mechanic says there isn’t an issue. But no car should be made to burn oil excessively. I can’t even make it the regular 3000 miles. Engine light has come on multiple times. Now replorting catalytic converter issue assuming that’s related to the excessive rate of oil burning.

The car engine made a clamoring noise and sudden seized up and stopped in the middle of traffic. The hood started smoking and a good Samaritan passed by and alerted me to get out of car. I did and noticed puddle of liquid was in flames and soon the front of the car was also in flames.

May 2021 catalytic converter failed on vehicle. It was on back order and could not be replaced until July 2021 at 106,612 miles. At that time, I had dealership and national check for any recalls or recommended repairs. There were none. November 18, 2021, while siting at a stop light, engine suddenly began to knock loudly, I pulled over immediately and had it towed to dealership, at 118,729. Engine failure due to rod bearing failure. Engine had to be replaced. National claims there was a recall repair that was not performed before November 2021. As of oil change in October 2021, there was none. Recall repair was issued first week of November 2021. I received the mailed flyer after November 21, 2021.

The power steering fails while driving. Steering suddenly and without notice becomes very difficult when the power steering stops working. STEERING FAILURE must be a serious safty issue.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 KIA SOUL. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 15 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL CEASED WITH THE POWER STEERING ASSIST FAILURE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE FAILURE DISCONTINUED INDEPENDENTLY AND THE VEHICLE RETURNED TO OPERATING AS DESIGNED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO BE DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. NEITHER THE DEALER NOR THE MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 44,000.

Am receiving a code for camshaft sensor bank 1 sensor a. Figured it could be timing but also know about TSB’s. Need to see if there are any posted for my specific 2017 Kia Soul.

Multiple stations failed emission inspection in texas for fuel not completed and evap not completed. Tried multiple things to fix. Took it to shop that kept for days and diagnosed with logic lock with the ecm/ecu. Basically bad ecm which is common problem with kia soul and there are recall for models older than 2016. Moritz kia kept for 17 days and said they could not figure out issue but ordered new ecm. I contacted DPS and got steps to get waiver because it could take weeks to get part. Asked kia to inspect again since two failed inspections required for waiver. Some how it passed inspection with the same two not completed emissions. In texas vehicles newer than 2001 are allowed only one not ready. Kia said they would not replace ecm since it passed inspection. Appears they are trying to not fix known issue. Concern is if a real issue with car happens the ecm will not update with error since it has logic lock. There are lots of reports of issues with the ecm and kia not honoring warranty. The ecm is covered for 8 years 80k and the car has 7 years 70k now. It appears they are just trying to delay fixing issue. If battery is pulled, obd code reset, or ecm pulled out none of the codes reset like they should.

WHILE CAR WAS IN MOTION BACKING IN MY DRIVEWAY, I WAS ABLE TO PULL DRIVERS HANDLE WHILE LOCK ENGAGED AND DOOR OPENED WHILE VEHICLE WAS STILL MOVING. ALTHOUGH I PLANNED ON OPENING THE DOOR AS CAR CAME TO A REST I WAS SURPRISED HOW EASY IT WAS TO OPEN WHILE CAR IS MOVING, AND DOOR HAD DONE SO PREMATURELY THEN I EXPECTED. CONCERNED I TESTED WHILE DRIVING FORWARD LIKE 20 MPH & DOOR OPENS WHEN GRABBING ON HANDLE. MY CONCERN IS WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION ONE SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO MANUALLY UNLOCK ANY DOOR BEFORE IT OPENS. I ADDRESSED WITH MY KIA DEALER AND THEY TOLD ME THIS IS NORMAL THAT OPENING HANDLE OVERIDES THE LOCK. THIS WOULD MAKE SENSE TO DO WHEN CAR IS PARKED, NOT WHEN THE TRANSMISSION IS ENGAGED. I HAVE 2004 SATURN AND MINE DOESNT DO THAT. I UNDERSTAND DOOR/LOCK FEATURES CAN VARY FROM MANUFACTURER TO MANUFACTURER. I CAN SEE A BENEFIT TO THE HANDLE OVERIDE FEATURE THAT PEOPLE COULD BE IN PANIC IN CASE OF FIRE OR OTHER DANGER THAT ALL THEY THINK ABOUT IS THE HANDLE AND STAY TRAPPED BECAUSE THEY FORGET ABOUT THE LOCK. THE CONSUMER SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO DECIDE IF THIS IS A FEATURE THEY WANT ENABLED OR NOT. KIA HAS TOLD ME THERE IS NOTHING I CAN DO. I FEEL THIS IS A BIG SAFETY CONCERN SINCE ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS BARELY GRAB HANDLE AND DOOR RELEASES; DONT NEED TO PULL HANDLE ALL THE WAY. IF NOTHING ELSE IT SHOULD RELEASE AFTER 5-10 SECONDS OF CONTINUOUS PRESSURE WHILE HANDLE IS IN MAXED OUT OPENING POSITION TO OPEN DOOR WHILE TRANSMISSION IS IN ANY GEAR OTHER THAN PARK. AND IF NOTHING ELSE, ONLY THE DRIVERS DOOR SHOULD BE ABLE TO OPEN WHILE CARS IN MOTION WHILE PULLING ON HANDLE. FRONT PASSENGER DOOR TESTED AND DOES SAME THING. KIA SAYS ONLY THE REAR DOORS SHOULD STAY SECURE WITH CHILD LOCKS, I DISAGREE! HAD ANOTHER TIME WHEN I WAS GONNA BE DROPPED OFF AS A PASSENGER AND PLANNED ON OPENENING DOOR, IT FLEW WIDE-OPEN WHEN TURNING IN DRIVEWAY AND ALMOST DAMAGED 2 CARS!

I have wasted too much time and my own $ for my local KIA to dismiss their on going re-appointments and months of different service technicians to not have them reacting to an engine light to never retry something not done right. Now, they have my 2017 KiA Soul+ wrongly listed as no recalls remaining. I am trying to be as proactive and not lose my Kia or several more months of covering the Killeen, Tx Dennis Eakin KIA’s rear to quietly avoid redoing more recall call backs they need to finish. So now your national government database shows my Kia doesn’t have the P0420 catalyst and O2 sensor listed. —-I did my part for Killeen KiA and paid my $ to prove to them the check light kept coming back on after they turned it off in early 2022. The gas mileage is horrible. I’m a handicap driver on fixed income, but no stranger auto warns. After a couple recall, full engine replacement attempts. Since my local KIA services, have re-called their own and also factory mechanical repairs. Both myself and Kia have basically had custody of my 2017 KIA. The last attempt they took back my now 2nd reshaped/fresh block from the first ever KIA recall that blew the piston the first few months I invested into this KIA. Every attempt to fix the next following recalls or unfinished work, I was told about late 2021 locally “if I can bring KIA a code of the engine light”(they temporarily hid) Then maybe they would go back and fix it or recall what needs to be fixed. I paid a mechanic after 3 attempts since 2021 of barely getting to drive my KIA. The code is P0420 I already have enough basic vehicle knowledge, to understand it was exhaust system stalling me (and the suspension) ( hack hydraulic also stopped functioning) I do love my KIA and do not want to start ideas of revamping my interest to Dodge or Chevy yet. I just want the recall for the catalyst/O2 and thermostat issue done or redone if my local KIA attempted to check off the P0420 recall before my engine fails again.

On January 16, 2023, my engine suddenly died while driving in moderate traffic, with a loud banging noise. I could have been in a serious accident, or killed, due to manufacturer and dealer negligence. When I was able to restart the car, it knocked terribly, but I was (barely) able to get it the short distance back to my home, where I discovered that there was very little oil in the car, though I have it changed more frequently than recommended and check it, as well. NO WARNING LIGHT came on. On January 17, I called a local dealer, who informed me of a recall that addressed that issue, though I NEVER received a recall notice. The dealer where I bought the car confirmed that this was a safety recall issue, and therefore, since I hadn't done the recall, because I was not notified, my unsafe, barely drivable car would not be repaired by the dealer. As I received this information from 2 dealers and from the manufacturer's customer (lack of) service representative, I have not taken it to a dealer to be inspected. I since learned that the dealer had not given my correct email or address to the car company, so recall notices must have been sent to an address I haven't lived at for 6+ years. They corrected this during my call on January 17. My current car was not even in their data base until my call to the manufacturer. They had a previous car I owned listed. I am seeking restitution and assistance on this matter. These recalls do not show up on this website, either.

On 11/07/22 my car started to sputter & lose power while going up a hill, the incident only lasted a few seconds with no warning lights. Later that same day my car wouldn't start and when it finally did start it started sputtering, had no power with no warning lights, plus there was a strong smell of gas from inside the car. I had the car towed to a local shop. The shop cleaned the injectors, put a fuel treatment in the tank and replaced a bad O2 censor. 8 Days later on another hill it happened again. A hard sputtering followed by loss of power, still no warning lights but also no smell of gas. I drove it back to the same shop and after just one day the shop could not get my car to reproduce the same incident but was having difficulty starting it so they installed a new battery. 5 Days later on Thanksgiving my car sputtered hard while driving with no warning lights or smell of gas. I was barely able to get my car across 2 lanes of oncoming traffic in order to pull into a store's parking lot. I had it towed to a new shop. At this new shop it was diagnosed that the car needed new Spark Plugs, a new High Pressure Fuel Pump and new Injectors but the shop took 3 weeks to give me an estimate and so I went and retrieved my car and towed it KIA of Lynchburg, having only had the Spark Plugs replaced. Once at KIA, I was told I had a Catalytic Converter failure and it needed replacing. KIA said that it would be covered under Emissions Warranty. I had the part installed and 3 days later on New Years Eve as I was driving on the highway, I had to come to a stop due to a stop light and when I halted, the car again sputtered and I limped into a nearby parking lot and had it towed back to KIA. KIA tried to say it was Engine Failure this time but the Engineers said the High Pressure Fuel Pump should be replaced. Once installed and during a test drive by the Master Mechanic, smoke emanated from under the hood. Soon after that my Engine bay was on fire which led to a total loss.

I am reporting the problem with the starters used in the Kia Soul. My starter went out with no warning. My vehicle had less than 25,000 mi. This occurrence happened 1 yr ago. January of 2023. The temp outside was a blistering 13°below 0. I was stumped by this occurrence. After searching the web for answers- I found myself viewing Utube videos for the problem I was experiencing. I found several about the symptoms, sounds and the behavior of the dash lights that verified the fact That my STARTER has gone out. Upon arrival at Dealership garage, I was told "the manufacturer is aware of the problems with these specific starters but are not willing to do anything about it because of cost" I feel this is a true safety issue. Being January in MN winter, the temperature can be very devastating. I contacted Roadside assistance (their headquarters being in Florida) Stated I needed to stay with my Vehicle for assistance. Finally after 2 days- a tow truck showed up and towed it the Whole 2 miles to the nearest Dealership garage. I can't imagine what could have occurred if I had been further from home with my vulnerable mother or very young Grandkids. This did take place last year, but with further a due I was encouraged to file a complaint about this experience. Hoping enough complaints will inspire an investigation, so others will not have to experience this problem or have this unsafe occurance happen to them or their loved ones.

MY KIA WAS DRIVING NORMALLY UNTIL I STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT AT A BUSY INTERSECTION. WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN, WITHOUT WARNING, THE OIL AND BATTERY LIGHT SIMULTANEOUSLY CAME ON AND THE CAR STALLED. I EVENTUALLY WAS ABLE TO GET THE CAR TO MOVE; HOWEVER THE CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE AND A HORRIBLE KNOCKING NOISE WAS COMING FROM THE DRIVER'S SIDE. MY VEHICLE TRAVELLED ANOTHER 100 FEET BEFORE SHUTTING OFF AGAIN. NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT PRESENT. I HAD IT TOWED TO STOKES KIA IN GOOSE CREEK SC, WHERE I WAS INFORMED THAT MY ENGINE THREW A ROD, AND WOULD COST NEARLY $8,000 TO REPLACE. I'VE HAD MY KIA FOR LESS THAN A YEAR, AND CONVENIENTLY ENOUGH, MY WARRANTY JUST EXPIRED BY A FEW HUNDRED MILES, AND I STILL OWE $9,000 ON THE LOAN I TOOK OUT FOR THE CAR. IT IS OUTRAGEOUS THIS VEHICLE HASN'T BEEN RECALLED YET; IT'S ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE SOMEONE BECOME A FATALITY WHILE DRIVING DOWN A HIGHWAY WHEN THEIR ENGINE CRASHES ON THEM.

PURCHASED THIS CAR USED WITH 16K MILES IN SEPT 2018. STOPPED AT AN INTERSECTION AND WHEN TRYING TO PULL OUT THE ENGINE WOULD NOT RESPOND TO THE GAS PEDAL. ENGINE REMAINED AT AN IDLE EVEN AFTER FLOORING THE GAS PEDAL SEVERAL TIMES. ALMOST GOT HIT!! I RECYCLED THE KEY SEVERAL TIMES AND FINALLY IT WORKED. I TOOK TO THE DEALER AND GOT THE " NO PROBLEM FOUND " NOW I EXPERIENCE A ROUGH IDLE AND A STRANGE FEELING IN THE BRAKE PEDAL WHEN BRAKING. TODAY I STARTED THE CAR AND THE ENGINE WOULD NOT GO OVER 3000 RPMS. CYCLED THE KEY AND IT WAS OK. I'M AFRAID TO DRIVE THIS CAR FOR FEAR IT MAY KILL ME! PLEASE HELP.

My kia soul 2017 had a catalytic burnout in 2021. Looks like the recall till 2016 should have been extended to 2017. This still pose a danger to consumers with model 2017 and newer models for overheating catalytic .

My cars check engine light has come on at 87,659 miles with a p0420 code. My dealer has determined that this is a defective catalytic converter and because of the mileage it is not warrantied. In doing research the 2012-2016 Kia Soul with the 1.6 gdi engine. My car is a 2017 experiencing the same symptoms as the cars a year older. The recall campaign is 19v120000 with the NHTSA and SC 176 with KIA dating back to 04/17/2019. My cars model year being a 2017 had not been determined at that time to be effected as the mileage had not yet accumulated to the mileage of the previous years. Now that my 2017 car had reached the mileage in which previous cars where effected , it too is experiencing this defect. The safety issue lies in that when the car is driven it could overheat without any warning lights indicating that and overheating a cylinder, piston damage will occur leading to catastrophic failure that could launch a connecting rod out the side of the engine block and allow oil to spray onto hot exhaust manifold leading to a fire.I would like to see that the recall to cover added years (2017-2019) to this recall as this is a continuing safety issue. The dealership is not wanting to acknowledge and help in this matter so I am filing this complaint to document continuing failures to aid in extending model years covered.

TE SERAS CENTER DID NOT OPENED THE CLAIM AND ISSUED A REPORT WITHOUT ANY DETAILS ABOUT THE CONDITION OF THE TIRE. WE MADE A SECOND CALL TO THE KUMHO REP AND GOT THE RUN AROUND ABOUT GOING TO THE CENTER WITHOUT A CLAIM OPENED. THEY OPENED FINALLY A CLAIM AND THEY SUGGESTED TO GO TO A KIA DEALERSHIP. WE VOICED OUR CONCERN ABOUT LOSING TIME AND WORK HOURS, NOT TALKING ABOUT USING A CAR THAT MAY BE UNSAFE TO DRIVE. The contact owns a 2017 Kia Soul. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V031000 (Air Bags); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact stated the vehicle was consuming one quart of oil every 2-3 days. The oil warning light was illuminated with an abnormal clacking sound coming from the engine. The dealer was contacted and claimed that the vehicle was repaired. The contact sought confirmation from the manufacturer and was informed that the vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was taken to a certified mechanic who diagnosed the vehicle with engine failure and stated that the spark plug was fractured and was not properly installed. The contact was informed that the engine was only running on 2 cylinders and was running at 1 PSI. The contact was also informed that there was fuel leaking from the exhaust pipe, causing failures with the fuel injectors. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 97,000. Parts distribution disconnect.

The contact owns a 2017 Kia Soul. While the contact was asleep, they were awoken by an abnormal burning smell. Upon investigation, the contact discovered that the rear end of the vehicle had caught fire. A neighbor called the authorities and the fire department extinguished the fire. The fire department informed the contact that the fire was caused by an electrical wiring failure in the rear taillights. No injuries were reported. A police report was filed. The vehicle remained in the contact's possession. The vehicle had yet to be inspected or diagnosed for the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 63,000.

Dear Officer, I'm writing to report the powertrain and engine issue on my Green Kia Soul 2017 with a 1.6L engine. The engine misfired when I was driving on Interstate 26 with my whole family (including my wife, mom, and 4-year-old daughter). The speed was down first with no signal and then the car started to shake strongly. It was extremely dangerous as it would very likely have made a collision from the back. I was so scared after that. I couldn't imagine the consequences if the car crashed due to a sudden engine misfire on the interstate. Thank Goodness, we are blessed as there was an exit that led us to get off the interstate. After towing the car to the dealer for a full inspection, I was told to pay at least $6,600 to buy a new engine to fix this issue without a warranty. I do need your help on the engine issue. More importantly, I hope no more similar safety events happening to other drivers and their families. I greatly appreciate your immediate attention and response. Thank you very much. While driving car began shaking, which lead to a puff of white smoke then blac smoke followed by car locking up in highway. Break petal would not move and when put in neutral power steering was gone every though car was on and everything else besides break worked. Turn on and off and car drive off again with strong shaking. When taken to mechanic I was told a spark plug melted into the engine and the shaking caused one of the ignition coil to become loose and oil to seep in. Now I am being told I need a new engine, all fluids where fine and oil had just been changed Thursday prior to incident, car is unsafe to drive because of random lock ups and extreme shaking

While sitting in line with brake applied the idle speed suddenly jumped up and car accelerated forward despite application of brakes. Without any change from me the RPMs suddenly dropped and car stopped again. The car moved a total of a quarter car length, which had I not been angled away from car in front of me would have caused a collision, and had I been at an intersection could have caused an accident or struck a pedestrian.

My kia has been having a issue with the check engine light on blinking after driving it over 30 miles... The car then slows down to 2rpm and I'm really concerned about this after 2other people I know are having that same problem.

Sudden Acceleration (SUA--3 times same day); almost went through storefront, almost hit by truck @ stop sign, almost hit fence in parking lot twice, had difficulty in highway traffic jam. Vehicle currently at dealership. Car and brakes became uncontrollable at slow attempt to park and in traffic jam; had to turn off ignition. Dealer and independent service shop have not been able to recreate condition, the manufacturer was advised but only test driven by the independent shop and the dealership. No warnings; independent service shop advised that the problem appeared to be in the electronic throttle control. Dealership will not investigate same until they actually experience the problem. There are many articles about this problem on line. This car was sold as "certified" by the dealer

When I bought my car in 2018, I didn’t like the way it drives. I had to take it back the next day to return it, but the dealer in North Aurora Gerald Kia said they wouldn’t take it back & I paid cash. I’ve been taking it back and forth from Gerald North Aurora to Bob Rohrman in Schaumburg Il. They have been been telling me every time, there’s nothing wrong. I’m hearing several noises in the Suspenion. So finally I told Bob Rohrman dealer to check everything before my warranty runs out. So far nothing didn’t happen until after my warranty. So I paid for 4 tires, front brakes, rotors. They finally said that I needed an Arm Control & a Strut, with low mileage, but Im steady hearing noises. I know know what to do. After I paid cash & had start going to find out what’s wrong with my car, the service dept was never friendly or professional. I always was told there’s nothing wrong with my car and that I know better. I’ve been driving since 17 yrs old and I’m 68.

I was in the right lane, of two lanes, proceeding north. I had waited at a red light, the second car back from the cross street. The light turned green and I was slowly proceeding, maybe going about 15-20 mph. Suddenly, the car engine raced and the front of the car veered left. There were cars in front of me, in the lane to the left of me, and behind me. I had both of my hands on the steering wheel the entire time. I, of course, took my foot off the gas pedal and applied the brakes. The brakes were not stopping the car. The car took off and was uncontrollable. I hit the car in the lane to my left, traveled across the same lane, then luckily ran up a curb and onto a median that had grass on it. The car was out of control and moving swiftly. I steered it to the right and off the median (which avoided hitting oncoming traffic head-on). The brakes were not stopping the car. I heard and felt that the car was hitting things: the car to my left, the median, etc.) I think the car may have spun 360 degrees, one complete revolution, and then jumped the curb and went up onto the median again. Again, I steered to the right to avoid crossing the median. The car then spun 180 degrees, and stopped perfectly facing south in the left northbound lane. (I thought I had gone up the median two times; however, maybe it was only once, as my passenger thought. I don't know if it was once or two times up the curb and onto the median. It all happened so fast.) Car was towed away. What failed: the car wildly took off, veering to the left; the brakes didn't stop the car Risk: the car was uncontrollable (except steering somewhat) and moving; if not for the curb and wide median, I would have traveled head-on into oncoming traffic; the car spun as if spinning on ice Reproduced: the car has not been touched; there is a consumer affairs case open with its manufacturer Inspected: by my insurance appraiser, at the dealership Warning: none, was a shocking surprise

My air bag, ABS and Brake Lights all gave warnings at about the same time, as well as my speedometer going "haywire" on a cold start. I got a recall notice about my airbag (electrical problems) and took it in to Parkway Kia, and was told that the airbag was not part of the recall, and that it would cost $1000 to repair the lights, as several different sensors had gone out at the same time. Included was 5 or 6 repairs that had already been verified that I didn't need. If the dealership is using recall opportunities to push $1000s of unnecessary "maintenance" repairs on their vehicles, no one is going to trust those recalls and this is creating an unsafe driving environment for everyone. I contacted Kia corporate and they stated each shop is "independently owned and operated" and "repairs can be declined." Kia is making a farce of this process and using your agency to perpetuate fraud.

Despite 22V031000 being repaired, the car randomly displays the following warnings, tire pressure, traction control, abs brake failure, check engine, power steering. The speedometer and tachometer cease to function at this point and power steering assistance becomes disabled. Balise Kia service manager Gary Lindsay states the car is safe to drive in this condition and has sent me home twice while waiting for parts. After the second attempt the issue remains.

The contact owns a 2017 Kia Soul. The contact stated that while either stopped at a stoplight or while making a turn, the vehicle would lose motive power. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and diagnosed with fuel system failure due to trash in the fuel tank. The vehicle was not repaired and remained at the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 23,000. The VIN was invalid.

This is the second time I have had to have the traction and ABS sensors go bad. The first time it was fixed under warranty, this time I'm being told I have to pay $400 for a $37 part. This is a safety issue as I do not have ABS and traction control at all. You need that in Florida when it rains...every day. This needs to be fixed under warranty, no excuses. This is a safety hazard, and if something like this doesn't get fixed, it opens lawsuits for Kia. I suggest that this be corrected under warranty or I will seek legal counsel.

SO EVEN SINCE I HAVE HAD THE CAR IT SOMETIMES WOULD HESITATE WHEN I WOULD ACCELERATE AND I WOULD SOMETIMES FEEL LIKE I WAS PRESSING THE GAS AND GETTING LITTLE TO NO ACTUAL RESPONSE FROM THE VEHICLE. THEN A FEW DAYS AGO MY ENGINE BLEW WITH NO WARNING SIGN, MY OIL AND COOLANT WERE EMPTY EVEN THOUGH I KNOW ALL MY FLUIDS WERE FINE. I DO COMMUTE TO WORK AND I KNOW THAT'S HARDER ON A VEHICLE BUT NONE OF MY OTHER CARS WHICH HAVE ALL BEEN OLDER MODELS HAVE EVER GIVEN ME AN ISSUE LIKE WHAT HAPPENED TO ME WITH THIS ONE. SEEMS ODD IF ANYTHING. WHEN I WAS STARTING UP MY CAR LEAVING WORK IT JUST RANDOMLY STARTED WITH THE NOISES AND THEN THE ENTIRE WAY HOME IT GOT WORSE I DID NOT DRIVE IT AFTER THAT I TRIED EVERYTHING TO GET IT TO THE DEALERSHIP HOWEVER IT HAD TO BE TOWED THERE. THE ENGINE STARTED MAKING A TICKING NOISE. WHICH GOT LOUDER AND FASTER AS I DROVE. THE FRONT DOOR ON THE DRIVERS SIDE DOESN'T LATCH OR LOCK COMPLETELY WHEN THE DOOR IS CLOSED/SHUT FROM INSIDE. MANY TIMES WHEN EXITING THE VEHICLE FROM THE DRIVERS SEAT I DISCOVER THE DOOR HADN'T BEEN LATCHED AT ALL BECAUSE I CAN OPEN THE DOOR WITHOUT USING THE DOOR HANDLE, IT WILL OPEN WITH A SLIGHT PUSH FROM MY ARM. I WORRY THE DOOR WILL OPEN WHEN IT'S MOVING CAUSING AN ACCIDENT AND INJURIES FROM FALLING OUT OF THE VEHICLE. A SECOND SAFETY ISSUE WITH MY KIA SOUL IS THE HESITATION AND SLOWNESS OF ACCELERATION WHEN ENTERING THE FREEWAY AND MERGING INTO TRAFFIC. WITH THE GAS PEDAL PRESSED TO THE FLOOR, A SAFE SPEED CAN'T BE ATTAINED FOR 2-3 MINUTES CAUSING OTHER VEHICLES TO SLAM ON THEIR BRAKES, REDUCE SPEED OR CHANGE LANES TO AVOID HITTING THE BACK OR SIDE OF MY VEHICLE. THIS IS THE REASON I NO LONGER DRIVE ON THE FREEWAY AND TAKE THE LONG ROUTE INSTEAD. THIRDLY, WHEN BACKING OUT OF A PARKING SPOT, THE BACKUP CAMERA FAILS TO ENGAGE ABOUT A QUARTER OF THE TIME AND I MUST RELY SOLELY ON SIDEVIEW AND REARVIEW MIRRORS. INCIDENTS OCCURRED FROM A DEAD STOP UP TO 50 MILES PER HOUR.

THEIR DESCRIPTION NEVER STATED, NOR DID YOURS ON YOUR WEBSITE, THAT THE HANDSFREE ONLY WORKS WITH IPHONES. I HAD A 2016 KIA SOUL AND IT WORKED PERFECTLY. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND FALSE ADVERTISING. ANDROID PHONE USERS HAVE OVER 55% OF THE CELL PHONE MARKET AND WHY YOU TOOK THIS FEATURE AWAY FROM YOUR CAR IS A BAD MOVE. THEN NOT TO TELL PEOPLE WHEN SHOPPING, IS ANOTHER BAD MOVE. IM SURE LESS PEOPLE WOULD BUY YOUR CARS IF THEY KNEW THEIR ANDROID PHONES WON'T WORK. I PURCHASED MY 2017 KIA SOULS BASE MODEL ON JUN 28 THIS YEAR FROM QUIRK KIA IN BRAINTREE, MA. AFTER JUST 2 WEEKS THIS ISSUE HAPPENED FOR THE FIRST TIME. I WAS AT A GAS STATION GASSING UP THE CAR, ONCE I WAS DONE, I TURNED THE CAR ON, PUT IT IN DRIVE AND THE CAR WOULD NOT MOVE ' I WAS PRESSING THE GAS PEDAL AND NOTHING WAS HAPPENING. I IMMEDIATELY PUT THE SHIFTER IN PARK, TURNED THE ENGINE OFF AND ON AGAIN AND THE CAR STARTED TO MOVE AGAIN. ON JULY 26 SAME ISSUE HAPPENED AGAIN AND IT ALSO HAPPENED RIGHT AFTER I GASSED UP THE CAR. ON SEPTEMBER 15TH WHILE I WAS WORKING AS UBER DRIVER THIS ISSUE HAPPENED AGAIN, BUT THIS TIME WHILE I WAS DRIVING. I STOPPED AT RED LIGHT, AFTER FEW MINUTES I STARTED DRIVING BUT JUST AFTER 50-60 YARDS I COMPLETELY LOST ACCELERATION. I DID SOME RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET AND FOUND A KIA SOUL FORUM WHERE OTHER PEOPLE HAVE HAD THE EXACT SAME ISSUE.
