ANYTIME FUEL TANK IS FILLED, THERE IS STRONG GASOLINE SMELL. IT SEEMS SMELL IS MOST INTENSE WHEN PARKED INSIDE THE GARAGE. GASOLINE SMELL PERSISTS WHEN DRIVING. USUALLY NOTICE SMELL MINIMIZE WHEN CAR HAS RUN FOR APPROXIMATELY 24-50 MILES DISTANCE. OLD DEALER MENTIONED FUEL TANK WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THIS HAD BEEN AN ONGOING PROBLEM SINCE PURCHASE OF THIS USED VEHICLE IN 2013.

The contact owns a 2006 Mercedes-Benz CLS500. The contact stated that while driving at undisclosed speeds, the brake pedal failed to depress properly. There was a message to “STOP” displayed on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who replaced the TLS, but the failure recurred. The contact called the local dealer, who informed the contact that there were no recalls on the VIN. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 99,000.

The 2006 Mercedes Benz CLS500 was designed with a SBC braking system that uses a microcomputer to monitor the car and driver actions. The system sounds like a milestone achievement in braking technology, unfortunately its prone to failure. The entire system relies on electronics. Before long, wiring in the SBC braking system deteriorates, and suddenly the SBC system no longer functions. What happens is all of a sudden a warning light comes on and this message all in bright red saying, ‘Brake malfunction. Ineffective braking,’” Stepping on the brake, my foot was going down to the floor pretty easily. No resistance, no brakes. The Atlantic Motor Car Center receives hundreds of phone calls per year on this issue. Imagine yourself driving along and suddenly the dash goes red and you have no brakes, Mercedes has extended the warranty on the SBC pump first to 10 years, then in 2018 to 25 years. Unfortunately, which happened to me and many others is when you take your car in to the dealer after the terrorizing experience they says they can not duplicate the problem or your car is not giving out a specific code. Although I had numerous fault codes relating to the SBC system, they informed me I did not have the code they wanted. The warranty is meant to prevent failures of the SBC system that result in no brakes. But when you take the car in they inform you it will be $3,000 dollars to replace the SBC pump. Just do some investigation on line to see what's going on. Does it take a class action lawsuit against Mercedes to get action? I can't believe that the NHTSA has not recalled these vehicles. How many accidents with people injured or killed does it take to get their attention.

No notice Brake Failure. Coming up to the corner of my sub-division before making a right turn onto a busy 4 lane road, Stepped on the brakes and nothing happened ! Swerved to the left to avoid hitting a jeep that was stopped in front of me also waiting for traffic to clear enough to make the right turn. My car traveled into the busy road, and its a Miracle I didn't get killed by a truck traveling 50 mph that might have T-boned my car on the driver side door. Car was beeping a loud noise and the instrument panel was lit up in Red with the following alarm. Reduced braking power, visit workshop. Car would not accelerate over 5 MPH with the alarm blaring. Luckily was able to turn on emergency flasher and pull over to the side without getting hit. This is the first time I ever had a car that when you stepped on the brakes nothing happened. It scared the hell out of me and I refused to ever drive this car again. Absolutely, no warning that you no longer have brakes. I wonder how many people have been killed in accident from the same problem. Car is a 2006 Mercedes Benz CLS 500.

I WAS EXITING THE HIGHWAY WHEN I BEGAN TO PUSH ON THE BREAK PEDAL IT WENT ALL THE WAY THE THE FLOOR. GOOD THING IT WAS A LITTLE TRAFFIC BECAUSE I WAS GOING ABOUT 40 MPH SO I WAS ABLE TO TURN OFF THE HIGHWAY IN THE GRASS AND STOP. BUT THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE AND THIS COULD HAVE WELL ENDED BAD FOR ME. WITHOUT WARNING THE BRAKES JUST STOPPED WORKING AND GAVE THE ERROR 'DEPRESS BRAKE PEDAL STOP VEHICLE'

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER OR INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING OR REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 133,726.

AFTER PURCHASING A USED MB CLS55 AMG I NOTICED I KEPT SMELLING FUEL INSIDE THE CABIN OF MY VEHICLE AFTER FILLING UP WITH FUEL. DID NOT PUT ANY MIND TO IT TILL AFTER THE THIRD FILL UP. AND I DID A RESEARCH ONLINE AND NOTICED ITS A COMMON PROBLEM I THEN CALLED THE 800# AND ASKED IF THE RECALL CAMPAIGN #2008-020001 WAS EVER PERFORMED ON MY VEHICLE AND THEY SAID IT WAS DONE IN 2008 BY THE PREVIOUS OWNER. THE CONTACT FELT THAT THE VEHICLE NEEDED AN ALIGNMENT AND STATED THAT THE TIRE TREAD WAS WORN. WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AT 65MPH, I HEARD A LOUD THUMP. IMMEDIATELY EXITED ON THE NEAREST OFF RAMP, THINKING THAT I HAD A FLAT TIRE. I CHECKED AND COULD NOT SEE A VISIBLE HOLE IN THE TIRE. WHEN THE TIRE WAS REMOVED, THE SHOP INDICATED THAT THERE WAS A HUGE RIP ON THE INSIDE OF THE RIM. ME BEING CONFUSED, I ADVISED HIM THAT I DID NOT HIT A POT HOLE, THE TECHNICIAN INDICATED THAT HE CAN TELL THE WAS THE METAL WAS RIPPED, AND THE TIRE WAS NOT PUNCTURED. I HAVE A 2006 MERCEDES-BENZ CLS500. WHEN FACED OR PARKING DOWNWARDS ON A HILL, THE CAR ROLLS FORWARD WHEN YOU ATTEMPT TO CHANGE GEARS. IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO BRAKE IN TIME, YOU WILL HIT SOMETHING. TWICE I ALMOST HIT THE PARKED CAR IN FRONT OF ME, ONCE A WALL IN A SUBTERRANEAN PARKING GARAGE. FOR EXAMPLE. I AM PARKED ON A HILL FACING DOWN. I NEED TO BACK UP TO PULL OUT OF MY PARKING SPACE. BEFORE I CAN SHIFT (THIS IS AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION), THE CAR IS ROLLING FORWARD TOWARD THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. TO REMOVE THE TRANSMISSION FROM NEUTRAL, THE VEHICLE WAS EITHER TURNED OFF AND BACK ON OR PLACED INTO PARK AND BACK INTO DRIVE. The contact owns a 2006 Mercedes-Benz CLS500. The contact stated while driving approximately 20 MPH, the messages "Reduced Braking Pressure, and “Service Required" was displayed and the vehicle experienced a loss in braking power. The contact was able to pull the vehicle over and proceed to inspect the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where the vehicle was diagnosed. The contact was informed that the VIN on the SVC (Sensotronic-braking Control Unit) did not match with the VIN and that the contact had to bring the vehicle to a local dealer for repair. Upon becoming aware of the failure, the vehicle was towed to a local dealer where the vehicle was diagnosed; however, the contact was advised that the dealer could not replace the unit because the unit was not the correct unit for the vehicle. The contact was informed that the vehicle should not have an SVC unit but instead should have an ABS unit. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the vehicle. The approximate failure mileage was 172,989.

I ASK THE STORE TO EXCHANGE BECAUSE IT CAN CAUSE DANGEROUS ACCIDENT BUT THEY SAID WE CAN EXCHANGE AS LONG AS YOUR TIRE IS NOT TOTALLY FLAT. I HAD A MAJOR TIRE BLOWOUT, WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY, TO MY LEFT REAR TIRE. WITHOUT WARNING, SUDDENLY MY CAR WAS OUT OF CONTROL, THEN I HEARD A LOUD BOOM; LOOKED IN MY REAR VIEW MIRROR AND SAW A TON OF BLACK SMOKE. I DID MY BEST GETTING OFF THE FREEWAY, AND ENDED UP IN AN UNSAFE LOCATION ON THE FREEWAY, FRIGHTENED FOR MY LIFE, WAITING FOR HELP FOR OVER AN HOUR. ALL FOUR OF MY TIRES WERE RECENTLY REPLACED; APRIL 2014. THIS WAS A VERY SCARY EXPERIENCE, AND I FEEL LUCKY TO BE ALIVE. THE TIRE RIPPED APART FROM THE SEAM; WHICH WAS OBVIOUSLY CAUSED BY A DEFECTIVE TIRE. IT'S HORRIBLE THAT CONSUMERS LIVES ARE AT RISK. WE RELY ON THE EXPERTS, AND THEY PUT OUR LIVES AT RISK. REFERENCE PE12001 & EA13003 AFTER FILLING UP I SMELLED A STRONG GASOLINE ODOR IN THE CAR. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION, THE ODOR WAS COMING FROM THE REAR OF THE CAR. IT SMELLED LIKE THE DRIVERS SIDE REAR SEAT CUSHION HAD BEEN SOAKED IN GASOLINE. THE ODOR WAS SO STRONG, DRIVING THE CAR WITH THE WINDOWS UP WAS IMPOSSIBLE. I DID SOME RESEARCH ONLINE AND FOUND OUT THAT THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE MERCEDES AMG CARS. AS INSTRUCTED ONLINE, I REMOVED THE SEAT CUSHION OPENED AN ACCESS PANEL AND COULD SEE LIQUID GASOLINE POOLING ON TOP OF THE FUEL LEVEL SENDER UNIT. I COULD ALSO SEE WHERE THE UNIT HAD CRACKED, ALLOWING GAS TO ESCAPE THE TANK. I CONTACTED MBUSA ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AND THEY ADVISED ME TO SEE THE DEALER. AS EXPECTED, THE DEALER DIAGNOSED IT AS A FAULTY FUEL SENDER UNIT. THEY CONTACTED MERCEDES ON MY BEHALF TO ATTEMPT TO GET ASSISTANCE WITH THIS REPAIR. MERCEDES DENIED ALL ASSISTANCE UNDER THE STANDARD AND EMISSIONS WARRANTY LEAVING ME WITH OVER $1000 IN REPAIRS. IN 2009, MY CAR WAS PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED UNDER RECALL #2008-020001 WHICH WAS SUPPOSED TO FIX THIS PROBLEM, BUT IT CLEARLY FAILED TO FIX THE PROBLEM PERMANENTLY. I HAD TO GET MY CAR REPAIRED BY A THIRD PARTY REPAIR SHOP AND FEEL DISGUSTED BY THE MERCEDES INABILITY TO FIX SUCH A FAULTY AND SERIOUS DESIGN FLAW. 2006 MERCEDES BENZ CLS500. LAST NIGHT WHILE PULLING INTO A PARKING SPOT LOCATED IN A COMMERCIAL BUILDING, THE CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATED FORWARD AND HIT THE OFFICE WALL GREATLY DAMAGING THE DRIVER'S FRONT SIDE. I HAD ALREADY EASED UP ON THE GAS PEDAL HARDLY PRESSING THE GAS AS ABOUT TO STOP THE CAR AND PLACE IT IN PARK. I FILED THE CLAIM AND KNOW THAT THIS LOOKS LIKE I ACCIDENTALLY PRESSED THE GAS INSTEAD OF THE BRAKE. HOWEVER, THE ACCELERATION WAS ROCKET-SPEED. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle, the battery warning light, check engine warning light, and other unknown warning lights were illuminated. The contact stated that he turned off and restarted the vehicle several times in order to clear the warning lights. However, the failure persisted. Additionally, the contact stated that while at the stop light, the message 'Reduced Braking Power" was displayed. The contact veered to a parking lot and turned off the vehicle. The contact restarted the vehicle and was able to continue driving. The dealer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle could not be repaired under Mercedes-Benz Recall Number: 2005110001 as the VIN was not included. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 130,000.

Re 2006 MERCEDES BENZ CLS500_ 211017_114326 On August 9, 2021, my brakes went out on the freeway when trying to dodge debris and other vehicles, when the brakes  completely went out and caused me to run over major wood pallet debris, and scared for my.life to get to the far right lane to make it off te exit with no brakes whatsoever. and causing major under-carriage repairs. Rather than hit the cars on each side of me, all I could do at that point was get over lanes with no brakes, and make it off the exit before I killed myself and/or someone else. The damage  done from the brakes going out, came to over $4000 in damage repairs to the under-carriage and left me without a vehicle for 45 days while in the shop This not only effected my income since  the vehicle was used for Lyft,, but I also was evicted from my apt. 30 days later, while my vehicle was in the shop, and unable to work to pay my rent. Once getting the car back these past few weeks, even though repairs were done, the car has continued to threaten my life and others, as the brakes continue to randomly go out at a light, on the freeway, behind a merging car, and Ive come so close to having another bad accident. Not to mention since the accident, I am now getting gasoline fumes that seep throughout my car while driving, so profusely, its causing me migraines. But most of all the RISK OF A FIRE!

I THEN DESCRIBED TO HIM IN DETAIL WHAT HAD JUST HAPPENED. AFTER ABOUT 60-90 SECONDS LATER, BECAUSE THE HEAT INSIDE THE VEHICLE WAS UNBEARABLE, I TURNED THE CAR BACK ON TO GET SOME AIR. THE CAR THEN VIOLENTLY LEAPT FORWARD WITH THE GEAR SHIFT IN PARK POSITION AND TOOK OFF FOR ANOTHER 50 YARDS. I WAS ABLE TO USE THE BRAKES TO GET THE CAR UNDER CONTROL ONCE AGAIN. AT THIS TIME I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND SCREAMED TO THE BOYS " GET OUT OF THE CAR". AFTER THE CAR WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP THEIR SERVICE PEOPLE EXPERIENCED THE SAME NIGHTMARE AS I DID. MY CAR ALMOST HIT ANOTHER CAR ON THE LOT WHEN IT ONCE AGAIN LUNGED FORWARD OUT OF CONTROL. THE CAR HAS BEEN "REPAIRED" BUT I WILL NOT PUT MY FAMILY IN IT AGAIN. GOOGLING THIS PROBLEM, I FOUND SEVERAL SIMILAR REPORTS, AND WANTED TO MAKE SURE MINE WAS FILED AS WELL SO MAYBE MERCEDES WILL RECOGNIZE THIS IS A SERIOUS, LIFE THREATENING PROBLEM.

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 MERCEDES BENZ CLS500. WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED, THE ENGINE STALLS. THE VEHICLE LOSES ALL POWER, INCLUDING BRAKING AND POWER STEERING. THE VEHICLE GLIDED DOWN INTO A CURB DUE TO THE FAILURE. WHEN SHIFTED INTO PARK, THE VEHICLE RESTARTS NORMALLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, BUT THEY COULD NOT REPAIR THE FAILURE. OTHER ELECTRICAL ISSUES WERE DISCOVERED, BUT NOT THE CAUSE OF THE STALLING FAILURE. THE VEHICLE ALSO HAS TRANSMISSION FAILURE, IN WHCIH THE CONTACT BELIEVES IS THE CAUSE OF THE STALLING. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 34,400.

OUR VEHICLE HAS HAD NUMEROUS PROBLEMS DESPITE MAINTENANCE IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE MANUFACTURER'S WARRANTY. SPECIFICALLY WE'VE HAD A NUMBER OF WARRANTY DEFECTS INCLUDING: - WINDSHIELD FLUID CLOGGING - SUNROOF MOTOR REPAIR - DOOR LOCKING MECHANISM FAILURE - BATTERY/ENGINE FAILURE WHILE DRIVING - CRACKED KEYS - RADIO FAILURE - SEAT ADJUSTMENT KNOB FALLING OFF (2X) - CENTER CONSOLE BREAKAGE - REAR VIEW MIRROR DIMMING PROBLEMS THE MOST DISTURBING ISSUE TO DATE WAS THE CAR RECENTLY SHUTTING DOWN POWER WHILE MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING HOME ON A MAJOR FREEWAY. NO WARNING EVENTS. AUTOMATIC SHIFTER FREEZES IN GEAR. REPAIRED ONCE - RECURRED. REPAIRED AGAIN - RECURRED. WIRING REROUTED TO ANOTHER CIRCUIT - SHIFTER NOW JERKS AS IT GOES INTO GEAR. WE ARE CONCERNED ABOUT FAILURE AGAIN. MERCEDES CLAIMED THAT A CASE FILE WAS SET UP AND THAT WE WERE THE ONLY INCIDENT IN THE US. WE CALLED AFTER THE MOST RECENT INCIDENCE AND WE WERE INFORMED THAT NO CASE FILE WAS ESTABLISHED BY THE DEALER. SINCE THAT TIME WITH LESS THAN 11,000 MILES ON THE CAR THERE HAS BEEN AN ADDITIONAL FAILURE OF FOUR MORE RIMS AND FOUR MORE TIRES. THIS IS A TOTAL OF 7 RIMS AND TIRES IN LESS THAN 7 MONTHS.*JB
