Fuel pump housing failed allowing gas to leak, further degrading parts of the fuel system, ultimately causing the locking ring to fail and gas to leak under rear passenger seat. Fumes filled the cabin while my family and I including two young children were inside. Fortunately, this issue was discovered rather quick, if not the fuel could have leaked onto the hot exhaust under the tank and ignited. I recently found this issue is well known in the Mercedes-Benz W211 chassis. You have multiple complaints on file. Mercedes had in fact issued an extended warranty of the fuel system however, it has since expired. The car provided no warning messages prior to failure. The car has yet to be inspected by the dealer, mechanic, or insurance.

The 2005 E500 W211 gas tank cracks leaking fuel sending unit and fuel pump. The odor of gas permeates the cabin, recall campaign number 2008-020001, and it’s extension information of 15 years dated Jan. 2015 signed by Ralph S. Fisher GM customer assistance center. The dealer in Hawai’i refuse to honor the recall warranty. It’s traveling a bomb.

The passenger compartment smells like gasoline. This is due to an issue that was already investigated by nhtsa however the warranty that was extended is expired by two years. I just purchased this vehicle used and it is unsafe to drive. It did not smell like gas a few weeks ago when it was purchased. The odor is very strong in the passenger compartment.

FILLED UP GAS TANK AND HAD FUEL ODOR INSIDE CAR AND FUEL LEAKING OUTSIDE THE CAR UNTIL FUEL LEVEL WAS AROUND 3/4 OF A TANK. I BELIEVE THAT MINE FALLS UNDER ALL THE OTHER PROBLEMS LISTED FOR FUEL LEAKS FOR OTHER W211 MERCEDES. THE EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR THIS WAS ONLY ALLOWED FOR ORIGINAL OWNERS AND NOT FOR ANYONE THAT PURCHASED USED.

The contact owns a 2005 Mercedes-Benz E55 AMG. The contact stated that after refueling the vehicle and arriving to the residence; the contact became aware that after parking the vehicle in the garage, there was an abnormally strong gasoline odor coming from the vehicle. Additionally, the contact saw fuel leaking from the fuel tank. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was part of an Extended Warranty program however, the Extended Warranty Program had expired. The local dealer was contacted, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 54,000.

The contact called the local dealer, who stated there was no warranty coverage. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, but no assistance was provided. This is not about an accident. It's about the vehicle's condition. Precisely, about the brake service warning. Red warning with beeping on dashboard saying I need to bring it to workshop for service. My wife was driving this car when she felt something was wrong with the car and she brought it to her trustful mechanic for check up right away sameday That mechanic gave up to look any further suggesting a visit to MB dealer.

There has not been an incident report, however, my brakes failed while driving and I pulled over. This is the fault the SBC System which has an Extended 25 year warranty. I brought it into Mercedes prior to complete failure, but they only replace the Pressure Reservoir. It must be returned to Mercedes for the SBC UNIT replacement.

car break looses 70% of its pressure and only left with 30% break. It happened 3-4 times already. break booster malfunction sign comes up. When i restart the car, malfunction sign goes away and it run ok for few days till it happen again. I am not driving it right now. it can cause serious accident at high speed

Break booster malfunction sign popped up 3-4 time while driving and I lost 70% of the break. Luckily it happened on local road at speed under 30mph. It is very dangerous and can result in an accident

Had a minor accident no airbags deployed sitting in car I don’t know a month later something around that sitting in car key not in the ignition sitting in the driver seat when all of a sudden a big bang happened and blue out both side airbag by the sunroof sunroof. Was very loud and knocked my head sideways. Nothing had touch the car car hadn’t been hit car was sitting in the driveway with no ignition running no key in the ignition.

CAR WAS ELEVATED ON A 2 POST CAR LIFT AND WE WERE WORKING ON THE UNDERSIDE OF THE BODY. 2 SHARP BLOWS WERE STRUCK ON A BOLT HEAD ON THE UNDERSIDE OF THE CAR WITH A HAMMER IN AN EFFORT TO LOOSEN THE BOLT. AFTER THE SECOND BLOW, THE DRIVERS SIDE SIDE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. THE CAR WAS STATIONARY, THE TRANSMISSION WAS IN NEUTRAL AND THE IGNITION KEY WAS TURNED TO THE ACCESSORY POSITION.

AFTER PICKING UP THE KIDS FROM THE NEIGHBORHOOD SCHOOL AND DRIVING HOME IT HAPPENED, AS I APPROACHED A STOP SIGN AND DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL IT WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR WITH NO RESISTANCE AND NO STOPPING POWER, RED LIGHTS CAME ON THE THE DASH TELLING ME I HAD A BRAKE FAILURE AND BRAKING POWER IS REDUCED!. WHAT A SCARY MOMENT! I WAS ABLE TO LET THE CAR ROLL TO A STOP SAFELY. AFTER TURNING THE CAR OFF AND THEN ON AGAIN ALL BRAKING POWER WAS RESTORED AND WAS ONCE AGAIN FUNCTIONAL. TOOK THE CAR INTO A MERCEDES BENZ DEALER THE NEXT DAY AND WAS TOLD THE ENTIRE BRAKE OPERATING UNIT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF $2,200.00. I was sold this car and because I did not know what the red "STOP CAR TOO LOW WARNING" meant when I was driving it home, I was not only scammed by the used car dealership with no recourse, but I also was tricked into driving this car while it was not supposed to be driven for safety, per the manual of the vehicle. I will include a picture of the safety message from the manual where it states, "HIGH PRIORITY MESSAGES APPEAR IN THE MULTIFUNCTION DISPLAY IN RED COLOR". and the STOP CAR TOO LOW message states very specific safety instructions that a reasonable person could not know. I am filing this recall complaint because how the system operates. I was sold this car while the struts were faulty and had already developed a leak and because the car was currently running the AIR COMPRESSOR was able to keep up with the leak during the test drive because a slow leak will only go back down after an extended time period which I believe the dealer knew because he asked me how much I was trying to spend and all of a sudden he pulled my car out of their shop telling me they just got the car and haven't put it out yet. Please help me. When I parked the vehicle at a Golf course parking lot during the test drive I was with my uncle, I did look up mechanic shops but because the car dealership was located in Farmington, MN there was no place feasibly close enough for me to have the vehicle properly inspected. The issue is the ride of the vehicle on the air suspension was perfect so there was no way of me knowing the car was not supposed to be driven over 50 mph which you will see on the safety instructions, and the vehicle could have caused an accident because there was no way of me knowing the suspension being too low could cause the wheels to rub on the wheel well if the car is too low. I even added more radiator coolant the next day when I was driving the car and the STOP CAR TOO LOW WARNING came on again. Over $5000 in repairs that I had to do because of safety, please help me.

I HAVE REPLACED THE SUSPENSION BEFORE AND NOW THE SUSPENSION LIGHT COMES BACK ON. THE CAR IS DOWN LOWER THAN NORMAL. THIS IS ALL THE TIME.

I WAS DRIVING MY 2005 E500 4MATIC MERCEDES HIT A GIANT POT HOLE BUSTING MY LEFT PASSENGER RIM N WHEEL. SUSPENSION MALFUNCTION BEGIN BY THE CAR NOT RISING DUE TO A MALFUNCTION. REPORTED THE INCIDENT TO SCDOT ON 12/5/2019. MY CLAIM WAS DENIED. REAR END GOES DOWN WHEN THE CAR IN PARKED. "STOP" MESSAGE (RED) APPEARS ON DASHBOARD. DO NOT DRIVE CAR AND TAKE TO MECHANIC IMMEDIATELY. IN FORUM I READ IT IS COMMON ISSUE WITH E SERIES OF 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006. MY CAR ONLY HAS 120K MILES. LEARNED THAT THERE IS LEAK IN AIR SPRINGS AND IT IS VERY EXPENSIVE TO REPAIR. I HAD SAME ISSUE 6 YEARS BACK ON FRONT PASSENGER SIDE WHEN I WAS DRIVING. FRONT PASSENGER SIDE SAT DOWN COMPLETELY AND RIM STARTED HITTING TIRE. I WAS DRIVING ON HIGHWAY AT 65K/HRS. I HAD TO CALL MERCEDES AND THEY ASKED ME NOT TO DRIVE AND THEY TOWED THE CAR TO DEALERSHIP. IT TOOK 2 DAYS TO GET CAR FIXED AND COST ME $2000.

REFERENCE NHTSA ACTION #PE12001 LAST YEAR I BEGAN TO SMELL GASOLINE VAPORS WHEN MY MB E500 GAS TANK IS 100% FULL. THE SMELL FINALLY GOES AWAY AFTER USING ABOUT 1/4 OF THE TANK. THE GASOLINE SMELL IS SO BAD, I NEED TO LEAVE MY GARAGE DOOR PARTIALLY OPEN TO HELP REMOVE THE SMELL. THERE IS A HIGH LEVEL OF RF BEING EMITTED INSIDE THE CABIN OF THE CAR. THE LEVEL IS SO HIGH IT PUSHES PULSED RF WAVES AGAINST AN ALUMINUM EMERGENCY BLANKET THAT WAS SET UP TO IDENTIFY WHICH DIRECTION IT WAS COMING FROM. THIS METHOD SHOWED IT IS COMING FROM MULTIPLE DIRECTION WITHIN THE CABIN. THIS IS WITH THE ENGINE OFF AND WINDOWS ROLLED UP. ALSO LF L LEAVE THE CAR AND COME BACK WITHIN LESS THAN A MINUTE THE CLIMATE INSIDE WILL KNOCK ME OUT, OR MAKE ME VERY SLEEPY. I HAVE TO IMMEDIATELY GET OUT OF THE CAR AND WALK 50 TO 70 FEET AWAY FROM IT TO STOP THIS FROM HAPPENING IF L CATCH IT IN TIME. THE CAR IS BEING HACKED INTO BY MULTIPLE INDIVIDUALS ACROSS TRIPLE CITIES. THE HACKERS ARE ABLE TO LOCK AND UNLOCK THE DOORS, SHIFT GEARS, TURN ON THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, CONTROL THE RADIO AND CD PLAYER, OPEN THE HOOD TO STEAL OIL AND CONTROL THE COMPLETE FUNCTIONALITY OF THE CAR. INCLUDING TURNING ON THE CABIN LIGHTS, BLACKING OUT THE ODOMETER ALONG WITH THE FUEL GAUGE, AND SHUTTING THE CAR OFF WHEN DESIRED THIS INCLUDES IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET. BECAUSE THEY CAN UNLOCK THE DOORS AND ROLL DOWN THE WINDOWS THEY HAVE ACCESS TO THE HOOD AND GAS DOOR. THIS ALLOWED THEM TO BREAK THE RADIATOR, DAMAGE THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER, AND STEAL GAS. ALSO SINCE THE HACKERS HAVE ACCESS THEY HAVE DESTROYED THE DRIVERS SEAT, CRACK THE WOOD ON THE STEERING WHEEL AND DOOR TRIM, REMOVED THE RIGHT AND LEFT FRONT DOORS, AND DESTROYED THE CENTER ARM REST. THE RF FIELD IS CONTROLLED BY THEM, AND LOUD CRACKING SOUNDS ARE REMOTELY INTRODUCED WHEN THE CAR IS STATIONARY AND KEY REMOVED. THE TELE- AID IS ALSO ACTIVITIES REMOTELY ON OCCASION AS WELL. THE FBI HAS BEEN NOTIFIED NUMEROUS TIMES TO NO AVAIL ALONG WITH THE CAR MAKER WHO TOLD ME NOT TO CONTACT THEM AGAIN. THREE DEALERSHIPS CHECKED OUT THE CAR AND NONE KNEW HOW TO DEAL WITH THE ISSUE. MERCEDES BENZ IN GERMANY WAS NOTIFIED BY EMAI AND SAID MERCEDES USA HAS MY INFORMATION I'M THEIR LEGAL DEPARTMENT. THIS WAS OVER 2 YEARS AGO WITH NO CONTACT FROM THEM REGARDING THIS ISSUE. CRANKSHAFT SENSOR WAS BAD AGAIN AND HE REPLACED IT. CAR WOULD NOT START. TOWED TO MB IN FRANKLIN, TN WHO SAID ECM/ ECU MODULE BAD. REPLACED IT AND THEN SAID BATTERIES BAD, AND ALTERNATOR BAD. THEY REPLACED BATTERIES BUT LOCAL MECHANIC TOLD THEM ALTERNATOR WAS WORKING FINE WHEN IT WAS PUT IN CAR. CAR TOWED BACK TO LOCAL MECHANIC WHO CHECKED AND SAID ALTERNATOR WAS INDEED BAD NOW AND HE REPLACED IT WITH ONE HE CHECKED OUT AGAIN BEFORE INSTALLING. NOW THE ALTERNATOR WAS NOT BEING ALLOWED TO CHARGE THE SYSTEM AND IS BEING TOWED BACK TO MB IN FRANKLIN, TN. AFTER SEARCHING THE INTERNET I FOUND THAT MB HAS BEEN INSTALLING DEFECTIVE WIRING HARNESSES IN THEIR CARS SINCE THE 1990'S AND THEY KNOW IT BUT WILL ONLY REPLACE THE DEFECTIVE HARNESS TO THOSE TO YELL THE LOUDEST BECAUSE THERE ARE SUPPOSEDLY MILLIONS ON CARS ON THE ROAD JUST WAITING TO SHORT OUT EXPENSIVE PARTS AND CAUSE OWNERS COSTLY REPAIRS. IN JULY OF 2014 ONE OF THE TIRES FAILED (LOST AIR PRESSURE WHILE PARKED) WHILE MY WIFE AND I WERE ON A WEEKEND TRIP OUT OF TOWN. THE LOCAL TIRE SHOP THAT REPAIRED THE FLAT INFORMED US THAT THE TIRE COULD NOT BE REPAIRED ? THE SIDEWALL HAD FAILED AND THE TIRE WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE FAILED MICHELIN TIRE HAD BEEN INSTALLED FOR 3 YEARS AND HAD 50% OF THE USABLE TREAD WEAR REMAINING (MEASURED LATER BY DISCOUNT TIRE). WE TEMPORARILY REPLACED THE TIRE WITH A NON-MICHELIN TIRE AND SAVED THE FAILED MICHELIN. WHEN RETURNING FROM OUR TRIP WE TOOK THE FAILED MICHELIN BACK TO THE DISCOUNT TIRE SHOP WHERE WE HAD PURCHASED THE SET. USING THE ROAD HAZARD GUARANTEES WHEN PURCHASING THE SET, DISCOUNT TIRE REPLACED THE FAILED MICHELIN WITH A NEW MICHELIN. Car smells like gas. Constantly a couple machanic. Did some repairs. But there’s a small leak as well from a smoke test. Gas leaks in more than one area. Oil leaks everywhere. Evap leak didn’t pass smog. Then went to a smog station and repair. Check engine light back on again. I saw Mercedes had an extended warranty to avoid recalling several safety complaints. I got the car from a guy who never looked into recalls or extended warranty for these complaints. Please help me to get refunded what I payed so far with repairs on gas leaks. Also to repair the whole gas system. It is dangerously ongoing. I never got notified by Mercedes nor did the previous owner.

Several times if the vehicle is not driven in a day or two the battery would be dead.I had to replace the battery twice in 2 years. I now receive a message (check battery) every time I start the vehicle. I bought a battery charger that I keep with me all the time. Once a month I put the vehicle on a battery charger, and if I’m not going to use it for a week or more,I put it on a trickle charger. I own 2 other vehicle and none of them need this type of treatment.

I was traveling at about 60mph and started to slow to turn off the highway. Suddenly a red brake warning light came on and it took tremendous pressure to slow the car down and I overshot the turn. Then the car had no power. I was 36 miles from my home. I limped at 5-20 mph to a friends house and had the car towed to my home. There was absolutely no warning of any kind of brake problem. The car was driving just fine before this happened. I believe it could have been a much worse situation had I been in any kind of traffic.

THE CAR HAS HAD THE ALTERNATOR REPLACED 3 TIMES, BOTH BATTERIES TWICE, ONE SHORT WAS FOUND IN FAULTY WIRING HARNESS IN TRUCK BEING PINCHED. THE DEALER WOULD DENY SBC UNIT RECALL EVERY TIME I CALLED FLETCHER JONES, AND ONLY GAVE ME THE OPTION TO PAY THEM FOR A DIAGNOSIS AND THEN THEY WILL DETERMINE IF ITS FAULTY INSTEAD OF MY LIFE BEING RISKED AS WELL AS THOSE AROUND ME I FINALLY TRACKED DOWN THE NUMBER FOR CORPORATE AND I GOT CONFORMATION FROM MERCEDES CORPORATE SAY MY VIN WAS INCLUDED IN THE LIST. THE CAR WOULD LEAVE ME WITHOUT BREAKS, POWER STEERING MULTIPLE TIMES AND ALWAYS WITHOUT NOTICE OCCURRING MOSTLY ON THE FREEWAY. THE SBC UNIT WAS EVENTUALLY REPLACED BY A SUPPOSED AUTHORIZED SHOP AND I STILL HAVE NOT RECEIVED ANY REIMBURSEMENT AND THEN THE SAME PROBLEMS OCCURRED SHORTLY AFTER THE REPAIR. I AM REFERENCING A MERCEDES BENZ SERVICE BULLETIN P-B-91.60/99E. THE CONTROL CLUSTER SHOWS SRS LIGHT BEING ILLUMINATED. I TOOK MY CAR INTO A MERCEDES DEALER AND PAID TO HAVE CARE ANALYZED. THE MECHANIC INDICATED MY CAR HAS THE FOLLOWING FAULT CODES: DTC 9103 (THE RESISTANCE VALUE IN THE IGNITION CIRCUIT CONTAINING COMPONENT R12/13 IS TOO HIGH) AND DTC 9123 (THE RESISTANCE VALUE IN THE IGNITION CIRCUIT CONTAINING COMPONENT R12/14 IS TOO HIGH). BOTH PERTAINING TO A FAULTY SCM HARNESS LOCATED ON THE STEERING COLUMN. I WAS TOLD THIS IS DANGEROUS AND THAT IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH, MY AIRBAGS WILL NOT DEPLOY. I AM CONCERNED THAT IF MBUSA KNOWS THAT THIS IS AN ISSUE AND HAS EVEN GONE SO FAR AS TO MAKE A SERVICE KIT TO REPAIR HARNESS, WHY ARE THEY NOT RESPONSIBLE TO REPAIR THIS, ESPECIALLY GIVEN THE EXTREME DANGER THIS IS POSING? I HAVE LOOKED INTO THE COST OF THE PARTS, RETAIL AND FOR AROUND $100 TO PURCHASE. THE DEALER WANTS OVER $700 FOR LABOR ALONE, PLUS ANOTHER $250 FOR PARTS. THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE THE SAFEST CAR COMPANY IN THE WORLD AND I WOULD THINK THAT THIS WOULD BE SOMETHING THEY WOULD WANT TO ADDRESS QUICKLY. ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS, THE ENGINE SUDDENLY SHUT OFF AS THE VEHICLE WAS DECELERATING TO A STOP. TWICE IT OCCURRED AS THE VEHICLE WAS COMING TO A STOP AT A STOPLIGHT AND ONCE IT HAPPENED AS THE VEHICLE WAS ON AN OFF-RAMP, EXITING I-95. ON THE FIRST TWO OCCASIONS, AT THE STOPLIGHTS, THE VEHICLE RESTARTED IMMEDIATELY. ON THE THIRD OCCASION, ON THE OFF-RAMP, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT RESTART UNTIL IT WAS ALLOWED TO COOL FOR AT LEAST FIVE MINUTES. THIS WAS PARTICULARLY DANGEROUS ON THE OFF-RAMP. AFTER THE THIRD OCCASION, I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE "CRANK POSITION SENSOR" WAS FAILING AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. FILLED MY CAR UP THE NIGHT OF 10/1/13. PARKED THE CAR INSIDE GARAGE CONNECTED TO MY HOUSE. UPON WAKING UP THE MORNING OF 10/2/2013, I WAS OVERWHELMED WITH VERY STRONG FUEL ODOR. I TRACED THE SOURCE OF THE ODOR TO MY 2005 MERCEDES BENZ E55 AMG PARKED IN MY GARAGE. I IMMEDIATELY OPENED THE GARAGE DOOR TO EVACUATE THE FUEL ODOR. I WAS ABLE TO LOCATE THE SOURCE OF THE FUEL SMELL TO THE DRIVERS SIDE BACK SEAT. ARMED WITH A FIRE EXTINGUISHER, I STARTED THE CAR AND BACKED OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY AND NOTICE A FLUID PUDDLE AND LIQUID LINE FORMED. I GOT OUT TO FIND GAS POURING OUT FROM UNDER THE DRIVER SIDE REAR PASSENGER COMPARTMENT. I CONTINUED TO BACKED THE CAR AWAY FROM THE HOUSE INCASE OF FIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP. THERE, THE DEALER PULLED THE REAR SEAT AND THE FUEL PUMP INSPECTION COVER TO CONFIRM THE SOURCE OF THE FUEL SMELL. WHAT WE FOUND WAS RAW FUEL SITTING ON THE TOP OF THE FUEL TAKE THAT HAD APPARENTLY LEAKED FROM THE DRIVERS SIDE FUEL PUMP. THE DEALER INFORMED ME THAT THEY HAD SEEN THIS PROBLEM ON OTHER E55'S AND THAT AS OF NOW, THERE WAS NO RECALL ISSUED SO I WOULD HAVE TO PAY OUT OF POCKET TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THIS REPAIR HAS COST ME IN EXCESS OF $1000.00. THERE APPEARS TO BE A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY ISSUE WITH THE DESIGN OF THIS VEHICLE. ALLOWING RAW FUEL TO ESCAPE FROM THE FUEL TAKE AND "PUDDLE" BOTH ON TOP OF THE FUEL TANK AND UNDER THE VEHICLE CREATES AN IMMEDIATE FIRE HAZARD. TO MAKE MATTERS WORSE, THERE IS AN ELECTRICAL CONNECTION FOR THE FUEL PUMPS IMMEDIATELY NEXT TO THE RAW FUEL PUDDLE. I WAS VERY FORTUNATE NOT TO HAVE AN IGNITION SOURCE IN MY GARAGE. MY CAR HAS BEEN TO THE DEALER NO FEWER THAN 4 TIMES FOR VARIOUS FUEL SYSTEM RELATED ISSUES. THE SYMPTOMS OF EACH PART FAILURE INVOLVE A PERVASIVE GAS SMELL FILLING THE CABIN OF THE VEHICLE, AND GASOLINE USUALLY POOLS UNDER THE REAR SEAT. THE SMELL IS SO POTENT THAT THE CAR IS UNDRIVEABLE, AND THE POOLING OF GASOLINE INSIDE THE PASSENGER CABIN MUST BE EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. THE GAS TANK, FUEL SENDERS, FUEL PUMP, CHARCOAL FILTERS, AND GASKET BETWEEN THE TANK AND FUEL SENDERS HAVE BEEN REPLACED TO NO AVAIL. I HAVE HAD TO FIGHT TO HAVE THIS PAID FOR UNDER MY EXISTING MERCEDES BENZ EXTENDED WARRANTY. MY WARRANTY EXPIRES IN JULY OF 2013, AND I AM EXTREMELY CONCERNED THAT THIS WILL CONTINUE TO HAPPEN. MY MOST RECENT DEALER VISIT FOR THIS PROBLEM WAS 2 DAYS AGO. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 MERCEDES BENZ E320. THE CONTACT STATED AFTER REFUELING, A STRONG ODOR OF WOULD EMIT OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE WITHOUT ANY SIGN OF FUEL LEAKAGE ON THE GROUND. ON A SEPARATE OCCASION WHEN DRIVING THE ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED CONTINUOUSLY ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO STATED THE FUEL TANK AND FUEL PUMP WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THERE WAS CURRENTLY AN OPEN INVESTIGATION UNDER NHTSA ACTION NUMBER PE12001 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE: DELIVERY: FUEL PUMP, FUEL SYSTEM ,GASOLINE: STORAGE: TANK ASSEMBLY). VEHICLE WAS ACTING NORMALLY UP TO INCIDENT. ENTERING HIGHWAY ACCELERATING LIKE NORMAL AND PULLED OUT IN FRONT OF TRACTOR TRAILER WHEN SUDDENLY CAR HAD DRAMATIC AND FRIGHTENING LOSS OF POWER. FULL THROTTLE DID NOTHING. DOWNSHIFTING DID NOTHING. WITH TRUCK HORNS BLARING AND NEAR COLLISION, I PULLED OFF THE ROAD. RESTARTING CLEARED THE PROBLEM. DRAMATIC LOSS OF POWER HAS OCCURRED THREE MORE TIMES WITH NO WARNING NOR CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. NOW LIGHT COMES ON WITH EGR OUT OF RANGE CODE. DISCUSSING THIS WITH OTHER MERCEDES DIESEL OWNERS POINTS TOWARDS SOOT CLOGGED EGR VALVE AND SOOT CLOGGED INTAKE MANIFOLD. DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD WHEN AN ALERT THAT THE SRS SYSTEM HAD DETECTED A FAILURE AND LIT UP ON THE GAUGE CLUSTER. HAD A AN INDEPENDENT MERCEDES SHOP READ CODES WHICH WERE: FAILURE OF SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM ON A 2005 MERCEDES E500 WAGON. THE "SRS" LIGHT CAME ON FOR NO APPARENT REASON. THE CAR WAS TAKEN TO A MERCEDES DEALER FOR REPAIR. THE WIRING HARNESS IN THE STEERING COLUMN THAT SENDS AND RECEIVES DATA TO DRIVERS SIDE AIRBAG 1 CAUSED A FAILURE IN WHAT IS KNOWN AS THE SQUIB FOR THE AFFECTED AIRBAG. THE DEALER TOLD ME THAT IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH THE AIRBAG WOULD NOT DEPLOY. THEY EVEN KNEW ABOUT IT AND HAD A BULLETIN BUT NO RECALL SO I WAS CHARGED ABOUT $735 FOR THE REPAIR. I WAS TOTALLY SHOCKED THAT A BRAND THAT PRIDES ITSELF IN SAFETY TECHNOLOGY WOULD NOT STAND BEHIND THE PRODUCT AND FIX A KNOWN ISSUE ON A GOODWILL CAMPAIGN THAT COULD BE A POTENTIALLY FATAL PARTS FAILURE. THE PROBLEM IS SO COMMON THAT THEY EVEN HAVE A KIT FOR THE WIRING HARNESS FIX. AFTER DOING A LOT READING ON MANY MERCEDES INFO SITES I FOUND OUT IT IS AFFECTING A POTENTIAL OF OVER 100,000 E CLASS CARS AND THE CL CLASS CARS THAT SHARE THE CHASSIS AND MANY COMPONENTS. THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THE SBS HYDRAULIC UNIT WAS DAMAGED AND LEAKING, WHICH WAS THE SAME PART THAT WAS REPLACED AT THE DEALERSHIP UNDER RECALL. ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS OUT OF SERVICE 18 DAYS, SRS/AIRBAG FAILURES OUT OF SERVICE 18 DAYS, AC/DEFROST BLOWER MOTOR FAILURES OUT OF SERVICE 12 DAYS, BRAKES OUT OF SERVICE 9 DAYS, TRANSMISSION (IDLE SURGE/UP SHIFTING/STALLING) OUT OF SERVICE 10 DAYS, FRONT END/TIRES OUT OF SERVICE 10 DAYS. DURING THE LEMON LAW FINAL REPAIR ATTEMPT, THE DEALER WROTE ON WORK ORDER THAT THEY HAD INSTALLED NEW BRAKES BECAUSE THEY FOUND "AFTER MARKET BRAKES" ON CAR. THE ONLY PLACE THE CAR HAS EVER BEEN SERVICED WAS THE DEALERSHIP WHERE WE PURCHASED IT. WE ASKED THE SERVICE ADVISOR AND ASSISTANT SERVICE MANAGER (FIRST THEY SAID THE BRAKES WERE THROWN OUT AND THEN THEY SAID THE PARTS WERE SHIPPED TO MB) AND WROTE TWO CERTIFIED LETTERS TO MERCEDES BENZ FOR THE REMOVED PARTS SO WE COULD TRACK THE SERIAL NUMBERS. WE WERE IGNORED. THE REGIONAL REPRESENTATIVE WHO INITIATED THE "BRAKE REPLACEMENT" WAS CONVENIENTLY "PROMOTED OUT OF THE AREA" JUST BEFORE THE LEMON LAW HEARING SO HE COULD NOT BE QUESTIONED. WE HAD BEEN COMPLAINING ABOUT THE BRAKES, ESPECIALLY THE STOPPING DISTANCE, FROM THE BEGINNING AND THEY KEPT SAYING NO PROBLEM FOUND. THE DEALER WOULD NOT DOCUMENT IT ON THE WORK ORDERS. *JB

BRAKES GRIND WHEN PUT IN DRIVE, PARK AND AT STOP LIGHTS. SEAT BELT INDICATOR HAD TO BE FIXED AFTER 5 TIMES AT THE SHOP, BRAKES WERE IDENTIFIED WITH A PROBLEM BY MBZ AFTER 6 VISITS TO THE SHOP (FLETCHER JONES MBZ LAS VEGAS), TECH STATED ON THE INVOICE HE IDENTIFIED THE PROBLEM AND ORDERED THE PARTS. WHEN I TOOK THE CAR BACK IN TO GET THE PARTS, THE SERVICE MANAGER STATED THERE WAS A MISTAKE AND THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE BRAKES AND MBZ WOULD NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. CURRENTLY NONE OF THE SEAT BELTS WORK (WHEN SLAMMING ON THE BRAKES THEY DO NOT LOCK). CONTROL PANEL READS "SRS MALFUNCTION DRIVE TO SHOP", "AIRBAGS OFF", "CHECK ENGINE". I RECENTLY PURCHASED A NEW MERCEDES WITH A GPS. IN MY OPINION, THE DEVICE IS A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD AND WILL CAUSE COUNTLESS ACCIDENTS IN ITS PRESENT STATE. FOR EXAMPLE, WHEN I WAS AT THE ZOO ON CONN. AVE. IN D.C. AND PROGRAMMED THE DEVICE TO GET TO REAGAN NATIONAL, IT INSISTED ON TAKING CONN. AVE. DOWNTOWN AND CUTTING ACROSS TO 14TH ST. I ELECTED TO TAKE ROCK CREEK PARKWAY TO THE MEMORIAL BRIDGE AND THEN DOWN RT. 110. WITHIN A QUARTER OF A MILE AFTER ENTERING ROCK CREEK, THE DEVICE WAS TELLING ME TO MAKE A LEFT. ABSENT AN ATV, THIS ILLEGAL TURN COULD NOT BE PERFORMED. ADDITIONALLY, WHERE IT WANTED ME TO GO WAS AN ON-RAMP (WITH A DO NOT ENTER SIGN) FOR TRAFFIC TRAVELING IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION. A LITTLE LATER IT SUGGESTED A RIGHT TURN INTO A STEEP EMBANKMENT. FINALLY, AS I WAS PASSING THE KENNEDY CENTER IT SUGGESTED A LEFT TURN INTO IT. ONLY WHEN I REACHED THE MEMORIAL BRIDGE DID IT DECIDE TO RECALCULATE THE ROUTE. THE PROBLEM, AS I SEE IT, IS THAT A FAIR PERCENTAGE OF DRIVERS WILL BLINDLY FOLLOW THE VERBAL INSTRUCTIONS WITH SERIOUS CONSEQUENCES. INCIDENTALLY, TALKING WITH THE SALESMAN ABOUT THIS PROBLEM, HE TOLD ME THAT THEY ALL READY HAD A WOMAN DRIVE INTO A LAKE. MY VERBALIZATION OF THIS PROBLEM IS TOTALLY INADEQUATE THEREFORE I INVITE ONE OR MORE OF YOUR STAFFERS IN D.C. FOR A TEST RIDE. *JB
