When I filled up gas and start the car, it has gas smell. seems like fuel is pooling on the left side on top of the fule filter module underneath the cushion. Searched the internet and found out it is a common problem on Mercedes.

My 2007 Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG, which has developed a fuel system defect resulting in a leak. This issue poses a significant safety risk, including the potential for fire and explosion, and is directly related to a known defect that Mercedes-Benz USA has previously acknowledged through an extended warranty campaign.Safety Risk: Fuel system leaks pose an imminent danger, including the potential for fire and explosion, to vehicle occupants and others on the road. Manufacturer Acknowledgment: The warranty extension campaign underscores Mercedes-Benz’s recognition of this defect as a manufacturing issue, Repeat Occurrence: Having experienced this defect in my previous 2005 E500 4MATIC and now my 2007 E63 AMG, it is evident this issue is systemic and not isolated.Ethical and Legal Responsibility: Safety defects do not have an expiration date. Mercedes-Benz has an obligation to address this issue regardless of warranty status.Mercedes-Benz USA recognized the severity of this defect by extending the warranty coverage to 15 years and unlimited mileage for “Covered Fuel Tank Components” in specific models, including the 2003–2009 E-Class (W211). I received a notice in 2015 outlining this warranty extension, which covered the fuel tank, fuel filter/sender, fuel pump, and all related gaskets, seals, and retention rings. Additionally, Mercedes-Benz USA formally notified the U.S. Department of Transportation's National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), specifically the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI), of this extended warranty campaign in 2014. While the ODI concluded that the nature of the leaks "does not appear to present an unreasonable risk to motor vehicle safety," I strongly disagree. Any defect involving fuel system leaks represents a substantial safety hazard, including the potential for fire, explosion, and environmental harm.

Noticed strong smell of diesel fuel by left rear tire, in several days a leak was under left tire, had fuel tank sending unit gasket replaced, no visible leaks but fumes are still present 1 year after repair. When repair was made all related parts were cleaned of residential fuel. Want to know if MB has dealt with splits or cracks in fuel tanks.

VIA REGULAR MAIL AND ONLINE SUBMISSION RE: VIN # [XXX] – Mercedes Benz 2007 E 63 Dear NHTSA – We would like to bring to your attention the failure of the Fort Lauderdale Mercedes Benz dealership to properly honor the repair and replacement of parts and labor covered under a recall for Fuel Tank Components for MODEL 211 (E-Class) years 2003-2009. A copy of the Recall notice which provided for an extension of the Recall thru 01/31/2021 is attached. Also attached please find a recent repair invoice for the respective repairs which should have been repaired under this recall. Mercedes Benz undertook a “partial” repair of the parts covered under this recall and at the time of that repair failed to properly repair all of the parts related to this issue/recall. Instead, they only replaced one fuel tank/fuel pump while the extended warranty coverage was in place and left the issue to materialize/manifest in the remaining fuel pump/tank despite the fact that conditions indicated it would likely fail in the near term at the time of the partial repair. Of further concern is the fact that an active Recall for the exact same item exists and remains active for later model years. Clearly, they have not fixed the cause of failure for this vital car part and continue to place drivers/owners at considerable risk. NHTSA – ODI It is incredulous to me, a 25+ year dedicated Mercedes Benz customer that an experienced dealership would attempt to evade responsibility for such a significant safety recall item. When this issue exists, the smell and fumes of petroleum/gas can be easily smelled from the exterior of the car. If you were to light a cigarette – you would likely cause the car to explode. When this issue existed, the interior cabin of the car would fill with petroleum/gas fumes again placing the driver at considerable risk. Recently my wife and I noticed a very strong fuel smell from cabin of this car. When I inspected and lifted the seat there was a puddle of fuel leaked over the sending unit. This is extremely dangerous and potentially deadly for my family especially with 2 young children who are always seating in back seat. Upon checking with Benzel Busch Mercedes dealer in Englewood New Jersey, they said they cannot fix my issue because my warranty has expired. I am now writing to you to help me as I feel this should strictly be a recall and Mercedes USA should be required to fix this leak free of charge. Please understand that out of pocket will be more than $8,000 for this repair and I do have the means to come up with that amount of money. Upon checking on internet there are many E class Mercedes Benz between years 2003-2009 that have this issue. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the contact was informed that the failure was related to an unknown NHTSA ID Number; however, the campaign had expired. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline. The approximate failure mileage was 77,000.

MY CAR HAS A STRONG GASOLINE ODOR. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THE FUEL TANK IS LEAKING AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THEY HAVE DENIED WARRANTY COVERAGE ON A LEAKING FUEL TANK. PLEASE REFERENCE NHTSA # EA13003. Vehicle began shaking on the highway. It was coming from under the front hood and was shaking the steering wheel. The check engine light came on. I pulled over and had it towed to the Mercedes repair shop. They said it was related to a bad balance shaft and that it was a systemic problem with the engine in certain Mercedes e350s. I was told I needed to replace the camshaft and it would cost $6,000!!! After some research, it looks like Mercedes agreed, back in 2015, to cover only certain of these Mercedes, but there was no recall. I could have been killed if I was rear ended.

THE ENGINE DIES SUDDENLY WHILE DRIVING. CAUSE UNKNOWN. CAR WILL RESTART WITHOUT TROUBLE, BUT THE SUDDENNESS OF THE PROBLEM IS REALLY STARTLING AND COULD BE VERY DANGEROUS ON THE FREEWAY OR ON A WINDING ROAD AT SPEED.

HIGHWAY DRIVING, CRUISE CONTROL SET. CRUISE CONTROL BEEPED, DISENGAGED. CAR CONTINUED TO DRIVE NORMALLY UNTIL I HAD TO STOP FOR A LIGHT. WHEN LIGHT CHANGED TO GREEN, THE CAR WOULD BARELY MOVE - HAD NO POWER, EVEN THOUGH THE RPMS SHOWED THE ENGINE RUNNING. FORTUNATELY, I WAS NEAR A GAS STATION AND WAS ABLE TO GET OFF THE ROAD. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN VERY HAZARDOUS HAD IT OCCURRED IN HEAVY TRAFFIC.... I PULLED OFF THE ROAD, RESTARTED THE CAR AND EVERYTHING SEEMED TO BE FINE. BUT THIS CAR BASICALLY LEFT ME SITTING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD AND COULD HAVE CAUSED A SERIOUS ACCIDENT IF SOMEONE HAD BEEN APPROACHING ME FROM THE REAR, OR IT WAS IN THE INTERSECTION AT THE TIME.

IN 2011, I PURCHASED MY VEHICLE FROM A DEALERSHIP AS CERTIFIED/PREOWNED AT 46,717 MILES. REGULAR MAINTENANCE WAS KEPT UP AT THE DEALERSHIP. IN 2015 AT 74,563 MILES, I BROUGHT MY VEHICLE IN FOR 2 PROBLEMS: A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAD COME "ON" AND MY VEHICLE WAS EXPERIENCING VIBRATIONS FROM THE POWER TRAIN WHEN TURNING AND SHUDDERING WHEN MAKING SHARP TURNS AT LOW SPEEDS. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS A RESULT OF A BALANCE SHAFT ENGINE PROBLEM WHICH WAS, AT THE TIME, IN A CLASS ACTION SUIT REGARDING THIS PROBLEM FOR THESE VEHICLES. THE MANUFACTURER AGREED TO PAY A PORTION OF MY REPAIR FOR THE BALANCE SHAFT ISSUE. THE SECOND PROBLEM TURNED OUT TO BE A TRANSFER CASE ISSUE. THE DEALERSHIP STATED I HAD A BAD TRANSFER CASE AND THEY RECOMMENDED I HAVE THE TRANSFER CASE REPLACED. AT THE TIME, I COULD ONLY BUDGET MYSELF FOR THE BALANCE SHAFT REPAIR AND 4 NEW TIRES. THE TRANSFER CASE OIL WAS CHANGED WHICH SLIGHTLY IMPROVED THE VIBRATION/SHUDDERING ISSUE. I CURRENTLY STILL HAVE THIS ISSUE MORE SEVERELY AND REQUIRE THE TRANSFER CASE BE REPLACED. MY VEHICLE'S TRANSFER CASE OIL WAS CHANGED AT 30K MILES BY THE PREVIOUS OWNER. THROUGH RESEARCH, I HAVE DISCOVERED THAT IN JANUARY 2009, A MANUFACTURER BULLETIN CAME OUT THAT SPECIFIED MY VEHICLES VIN NUMBER WAS INCLUDED IN THE STATED PROBLEMS WITH THE TRANSFER CASE. THEY HAD INSTALLED DEFECTIVE TRANSFER CASES AT PRODUCTION IN 2007 AND SHOULD REMEDY THIS! I HAVE SPOKEN TO THE MANUFACTURER AND THEY WILL ONLY PAY 25% OF MY PARTS FOR THIS REPAIR WHICH LEAVES ME WITH A $3200 BILL FOR A PROBLEM THEY KNEW ABOUT. ON MANY OCCASIONS, WHILE WAITING FOR MY VEHICLE TO HAVE MAINTENANCE COMPLETED, I OVER HEARD SERVICE REPRESENTATIVES SPEAKING TO OTHER CUSTOMERS BY PHONE OR IN PERSON. THE SERVICE REPS INDICATED IN MANY INSTANCES THAT THE PROBLEM THE CUSTOMER WAS HAVING WITH THEIR VEHICLE WAS DUE TO THE TRANSFER CASE. THESE TRANSFER CASES SHOULD BE RECALLED!

TRANSMISSION VIOLENTLY DOWNSHIFT SEVERAL GEARS WITHOUT WARNING .THIS CAUSES SKIDDING, THROWING OCCUPANTS VIOLENTLY TOWARD THE WIND SHIELD THIS HAPPENS WHEN AUTO IS IN DRIVE WITH SPEEDS BETWEEN 40-45 MPH. The contact owns a 2007 Mercedes-Benz E350. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked in the garage and turned off, the entire rear end of the vehicle inadvertently lowered to the ground. The contact stated that the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 12V264000 (Suspension) however, the vehicle was not included in the recall. The vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer and the dealer were not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 140,000. The consumer stated the rear air suspension is functioning as designed. Upon restarting the vehicle the air compressor was recharged.

I WISH TO REPORT AN ISSUE WITH THE AIR-MATIC SUSPENSION ON MY 2007 MERCEDES BENZ E550. I HAD THE AIR STRUTS REPLACED A FEW YEARS AGO WITH MERCEDES BENZ PARTS AT THE DEALERSHIP AND HAVE DRIVEN APPROXIMATELY 16,000 MILES SINCE REPLACEMENT WITHOUT ACCIDENT. THE CAR HAS 36,000 MILES CURRENTLY AND IS DRIVEN EXCLUSIVELY IN TOWN, ON PAVED ROADS, AND GARAGED AT HOME. ON SEPTEMBER 25, 2018 THE STRUT ON THE FRONT LEFT (DRIVER SIDE) CATASTROPHICALLY FAILED CAUSING THE CAR TO PULL HARD TO THE RIGHT AS THE FRONT LEFT DROPPED VIOLENTLY. I HAVE CONTACTED MERCEDES BENZ USA TO REPORT THIS ISSUE FOR THEIR INVESTIGATION. MY CURRENT INFORMATION IS THE STRUT EXPERIENCED AN INTERNAL FAILURE AS REPORTED BY THE MECHANIC, BUT WOULD NEED FURTHER INVESTIGATION TO DETERMINE EXACT ROOT CAUSE. MY CONCERN IS THAT THIS PART FAILED SUDDENLY WITHOUT WARNING AND IF I WERE NOT TRAVELING AT A LOW RATE OF SPEED (APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH), THE OUTCOME COULD HAVE BEEN FAR WORSE. I FEEL THAT GIVEN THE LOW MILES, NEWNESS OF THE PART, AND SUDDEN FAILURE, THIS COULD BE AN INDICATION OF A MORE SERIOUS ISSUE WITH MANUFACTURE OF THIS COMPONENT AND SHOULD BE FURTHER INVESTIGATED.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A MECHANIC AND WAS NOT DETERMINED TO BE PART INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 12V264000 (SUSPENSION). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 82,000.

MERCEDES RECALLED 100% OF E350 WAGON DUE TO A FAULTY SIGNAL WHICH COULD RESULT IN AN UNSAFE SUSPENSION SYSTEM. MY MECHANIC TODAY VERIFIED THIS SIGNAL FAILURE WHILE TRYING TO DIAGNOSE A STIFF UNFORGIVING SUSPENSION IN THE REAR AXEL. MY CALLS TO BOTH MERCEDES AND NHTSA SHOW NO OPEN RECALL. MERCEDES SAYS IT HAD NOT BEEN PREVIOUSLY FIXED. PLEASE INCLUDE MY VEHICLE IN THE 100% TO WHICH IT BELONGS AND RECALL IT. IT'S REALLY DUBIOUS WHEN CONSUMER HAS TO DO SO MUCH RESEARCH AND LEG WORK I WAS ABOUT TO SPEND THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS UNJUSTIFIABLE!! 2007 MERCEDES BENZ E350. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO DEFECTIVE TIRES ON VEHICLE. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED THE FRONT TIRES WERE REPLACED ON DECEMBER 1, 2011. HE FOUND AN AIR BUBBLE ON ONE OF THE TIRES ON APRIL 16, 2013. THE CONSUMER STATED THE REPAIR SHOP FILED A CLAIM WITH THE MANUFACTURER, BECAUSE THE TIRE WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY. HOWEVER, THEY DID SO WITHOUT SPECIFYING THE TRUE REASON FOR THE CLAIM, WHICH WAS AN AIR BUBBLE. THE CLAIM WAS NOT FOR WEAR AND TEAR, AS INDICATED ON THE INVOICE. THE CONSUMER IS SEEKING REIMBURSEMENT, DUE TO THE TIRE BEING DEFECTIVE.

I HAVE 2007 E350 CLASS 4-MATIC SPORT PACKAGE, THE PANORAMIC SUNROOF DOES NOT OPEN AND WHEN I PUSH BOTTOM TO OPEN THE MOTOR SOUND LIKE IS GRINDING THE CAR HAS ONLY 75000 MILES ON IT AND THE DEALER DOES NOT WARRANTY IT. THE COST TO HAVE REPAIRED AT MERCEDE DEALERSHIP IS $1500.

ON THE NTIGH OF APRIL 15, 2019, WHILE DRIVING ON A STREET IN ORLANDO, FL, THE WARNING THAT THE DRIVER SIDE LOW BEAM WAS OUT CAME ON. I REPLACED THE BULB THE NEXT DAY BUT THE NEW BULB LASTED ABOUT 20 MINUTES AND THE WARNING CAME ON AGAIN. THINKING I HAD A BAD BULB, ON APRIL 17, 2019, I WENT IN AGAIN TO REPLACE IT. THIS TIME I NOTICED A GOOD QUANTITY OF FRAGMENTS OF DRIED UP WIRE INSULATION INSIDE HEADLIGHT HOUSING AND NOTICED THAT THE 3 WIRES LEADING TO THE BULB WERE BARE. THE WIRES ARE SHORTING OUT, THE NEW BULB DID NOT LAST. I DID A BRIEF INTERNET SEARCH AND CONCLUDED THAT THIS IS A COMMON SAFETY PROBLEM WITH THE E350 AND MERCEDES IS AWARE OF IT. THE WIRING INSULATION IS NOT SUITED FOR THE JOB; IT IS FAILING; IT COULD CAUSE A FIRE OR A CRASH IF BOTH HEADLIGHTS GO OUT AT ONCE! THE INSULATION ON THE WIRING HARNESSES FOR THE HEADLIGHTS HAS COMPLETELY DISINTEGRATED AND IS SITTING IN A PILE OF BITS ON THE BOTTOM OF THE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY, LITERALLY LEAVING COMPLETELY BARE WIRES LEADING UP TO THE HEADLAMP SOCKETS. IF THESE WIRES WERE TO TOUCH AND SHORT OUT IT COULD RESULT IN COMPLETE LOSS OF HEADLIGHTS AT NIGHT AT HIGHWAY SPEED. THIS DEFECT WAS DISCOVERED WHEN ATTEMPTING TO REPLACE A BURNED OUT LOW BEAM HEADLIGHT BULB. OTHER SUCH WIRING IN THE VEHICLE MIGHT ALSO HAVE DETERIORATED OR DISINTEGRATED BUT NOT YET BEEN DISCOVERED, WITH ATTENDANT RISKS OF DAMAGE TO OTHER EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE PARTS OF THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, OR RISK OF FIRE OR CATASTROPHIC FAILURE OF THE VEHICLE WHILE OPERATING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS.

THE WARNING LIGHT SAYING MY LOW BEAM BULB IS BLOWED. THE CAR WAS STATIONARY AT MOMENT. I HAD THE BULB REPLACED AND IT STILL DID NOT WORK. SO MECHANIC CHECKED AND SAW PIECES OF WIRE WITHIN THE HEADLIGHT CASING. ELECTRICAL WIRING TO MY HEADLIGHTS IS DISINTEGRATED. SO I ASSUME; THE COMPLETE WIRING THROUGHOUT THE ENGINE IS DISINTEGRATED. SO I BEGIN SEARCHING ONLINE AND READ THE ISSUE WITH MERCEDES USING FAULTY WIRING. THEREFORE; I AM REPORTING THE ISSUE AND WANT SOME TYPE OF SOLUTION.

I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK ON A FREEWAY TRAVELING AT ABOUT 65MPH. ALL OF SUDDEN, MY CAR STARTING TO SLOW AND DECELERATED WHICH I PULLED MY EHICLE OVER TO THE EMERGENCY LANE WHERE IT STALLED. THE CAR WOULDN'T START AFTER THAT AND I CAN SMELL THE BURNING FROM THE UNDER THE HOOD. I GOT IT TOWED TO A MERCEDES SPECIALIST SHOP. THE SHOP REPORTED THAT THERE WAS A FIRE INSIDE THE AIR INTAKE MANIFOLD THAT CAUSED DAMAGE TO OTHER COMPONENTS AS WELL WHICH WAS VERY UNUSUAL. THIS MANIFOLD COMPONENT WAS ALL BURNED AND MELTED INSIDE INCLUDING OTHER SURROUNDING COMPONENTS. I CONSULTED WITH THE MERCEDES DEALERSHIP WHICH THEY STATED THIS NEVER HAPPEN TO ANY MERCEDES MODELS SO I THINK THIS IS A DEFECT AND A SAFETY HAZARD. THIS IS ONLY A 5 YEAR OLD CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED PURCHASE MADE FROM THE DEALER 3 YEARS AGO WHEN VEHICLE HAD ONLY 38,000 MILES ON IT. UNFORTUNATELY, MY WARRANTLY JUST EXPIRED 5 MONTHS AGO. AT THIS POINT, THE DAMAGE SO FAR EXCEEDED $4,000 TO REPAIR AND THE DEALERSHIP WON'T DO OFFER ANY GOODWILL REPAIR ON IT. A 3RD PARTY MECHANIC DIAGNOSED TRANSMISSION VALVE BODY FAILURE AND ADVISED ON REPLACEMENT. THIS MUST BE A A KNOWN ISSUE BECAUSE MECHANIC ASKED THAT IN ORDER TO REPLACE THE PART A VALID PERSONAL ID MUST BE RECORDED AS PART OF THE PARTS REPLACEMENT PER MERCEDES.

THE FRONT INNER TIRES GET CUPPING OVER THE TIME, I HAVE TO REPLACE THEM EVERY 10,000 MILES. ALL THE SUSPENSION PARTS ARE NEW PUT STILL THE PROBLEM GOING ON. SOME OF THE REPAIRS DONE UNDER WARRANTY, BUT WE HAVE NOW SPENT OVER $3,400.00 ON NEW A/C COMPRESSORS (TWICE), THE EVAPORATOR (ALSO TWICE) AND VARIOUS AND SUNDRY LEAK DETECTIONS AND RECHARGES. FAILURES HAVE OCCURRED ON START-UP AS WELL AS AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. I HAVE READ THROUGH THIS MODEL'S DEFECT RECORDS AND FOUND LITTLE IF ANY MENTION OF THE CLIMATE CONTROL. The contact had experienced the failure several times. The contact called the local dealer and made them aware of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V954000 (Visibility) however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 138,000.

THE PROTECTIVE LACQUER FINISH HAS FAILED CAUSING WHEEL CORROSION AND RUST FROM THE INSIDE OUT STARTING AROUND THE WHEEL HUBS. I REPORTED TO MY INDEPENDENT MECHANIC A STRONG FUEL SMELL WHEN FILLING THE VEHICLE FULL AND PARKING IT. UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION, MY MECHANIC DISCOVERED A FUEL LEAK FROM THE DRIVERS SIDE OF THE TANK ONTO THE LEFT EXHAUST WHICH OF COURSE CAN CREATE A FIRE HAZARD. I IMMEDIATELY CONTACTED MY LOCAL MB DEALERSHIP AND SPENT DAYS TRYING TO GET IN TOUCH WITH THE SERVICE MANAGER. AS OF TODAY 4/8/13, I TOOK THE VEHICLE IN FOR INSPECTION. THEY TOLD ME THAT THE DRIVERS SIDE FUEL SENDING UNIT/PUMP IS LEAKING AND WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. I ASKED IF THE CAR WAS SAFE TO DRIVE, THEY REPLIED NO, BUT HAPPILY SENT ME ON MY WAY ANYHOW. THIS PROBLEM LINES UP WITH EVERY OTHER COMPLAINT ABOUT THE MY03-09 W211'S THAT EXHIBIT THIS PROBLEM. MY CHECK ENGINE LIKE CAME ON AND I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP TO TROUBLE SHOOT THE PROBLEM. I WAS TOLD THAT THE "BALANCE SHAFT GEAR" NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND THAT IT WOULD COST $5,500 MINIMUM. I HAVE SINCE THEN LEARNED THAT THIS IS A DEFECTIVE PART THAT HAS EFFECTED LITERALLY THOUSANDS OF M272 ENGINES THAT MERCEDES BENZ KNOWINGLY USED EVEN AFTER LEARNING THAT THE METAL COMPONENTS OF THIS VERY IMPORTANT PART OF THE CARS ENGINE WOULD NOT LAST. THE PART TYPICALLY FAILS AFTER THE MANUFACTURER'S WARRANTY AND THEREFORE IS NOT COVERED BY THE DEALERSHIP OR MERCEDES BENZ. A CLASS ACTION SUIT WAS FILED IN 2011 AND THE JUDGE IN THE CASE FAILED TO RULE IN FAVOR OF THE CONSUMER. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 MERCEDES-BENZ E350. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE BATTERY WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE FUEL PUMP WAS REPLACED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED TWICE. ADDITIONALLY, THE FUEL PUMP FILER, WATER PUMP, TENSIONER PULLEY, AND SERPENTINE BELT (WHICH WAS REPLACED NINE TIMES) WERE REPLACED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE CONTACT WAS ALSO INFORMED THAT THERE WAS AN ELECTRONIC FAILURE FOR WHICH THE MECHANIC WAS UNABLE TO REPAIR. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE FUEL GAUGE AND COOLANT SYSTEM WERE INOPERABLE, AND THERE WAS A FAILURE WITH THE WATER PUMP. THE MANUFACTURER WAS INFORMED OF THE FAILURES. MY VEHICLE WEARS THE INSIDES OF FRONT AND BACK TIRES. HAVE DONE WHEEL ALIGNMENTS, TOE-INS AND OTHER REMEDIES. THE PROBLEM WITH THIS IS THAT YOUR TIRES WEAR DOWN PREMATURELY AND THE UNSUSPECTING DRIVER DRIVES AND THE TIRES WEAR DOWN TO THE THREADS AND EXPLODES. THIS IS BECAUSE THEY DID NOT EXPECT THEIR TIRES TO LAST HALF OR LESS OF THE THREAD LIFE DUE TO THIS UNUSUAL WEAR, AND NO ONE CAN FIGURE OUT WHY THIS IS HAPPENING. THE PURPOSE OF THIS IS TO ALERT YOU OF A SAFETY HAZARD / PRODUCT DEFECT OF THE SEATBELT BUCKLE IN THE 2007 MERCEDES BENZ E350 4MATIC WAGON (?MB E350 WAGON?). I HAVE SENT A SIMILAR LETTER TO MERCEDES BENZ REPORTING THE SITUATION. ON AUGUST 7, 2015 WHILE RIDING IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT OF AN MB E350 WAGON, I PLACED MY LEFT HAND ON THE LEFT SIDE OF MY SEAT NEAR THE SEATBELT BUCKLE, AS LEVERAGE IN ORDER TO ADJUST MY SITTING POSITION. AS I SHIFTED MY POSITION, THE SEATBELT MOVED THROUGH THE INSERTING (TOP) PART OF THE BUCKLE, AND IN THE PROCESS SEVERELY AND PAINFULLY PINCHED THE SKIN ON THE INSIDE OF MY LEFT FOREARM. ALTHOUGH THE SEATBELT BUCKLE ?LET GO? OF MY SKIN IT CAUSED A SERIOUS CONTUSION: WITHIN SECONDS OF THE INCIDENT, A PAINFUL, 2-3INCH LONG, RAISED/SWOLLEN CONTUSION DEVELOPED ON MY FOREARM. THE CONTUSION QUICKLY TURNED VERY DARK RED AS THE BLOOD CONTINUED TO POOL UNDER MY SKIN. THINKING THIS WAS A ONE OFF OCCURRENCE, FEW MINUTES LATER, I ONCE MORE ATTEMPTED TO SHIFT MY SITTING POSITION IN THE SAME MANNER AS ABOVE, ONLY TO SUFFER THE EXACT SAME INJURY AGAIN. SEVERAL TAIL LAMPS QUIT WORKING. I HAD A WARNING ON THE CAR DISPLAY LISTING NUMEROUS LIGHTS ON THE TRUNK INOPERATIVE. THE LICENSE PLATE LAMP, 3RD BRAKE LIGHT, AND THE AUTO OPEN AND CLOSE OF THE TRUNK WERE INOPERATIVE. ALSO, THE EMERGENCY TRUNK RELEASE FUNCTION INSIDE THE TRUNK WOULD NOT LIGHT UP AND WOULD NOT OPEN THE TRUNK. I SEARCHED A MB WEB FORUM TO SEE IF ANYONE ELSE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. THERE ARE NUMEROUS CARS FROM SEVERAL YEAR GROUPS THAT ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. I TRACED THE PROBLEM TO 1 BROKEN WIRE IN A WIRING BUNDLE ATTACHED TO THE LEFT HINGE OF THE TRUNK. IT APPEARS THAT THE DESIGN AND PLACEMENT OF THIS WIRING BUNDLE IS CAUSING THE WIRING BUNDLE TO FLEX AND OVER TIME, WITH THE OPENING AND CLOSING OF THE TRUNK, THE WIRES ARE BREAKING. SINCE I HAD REDUCED CAPABILITY IN BRAKE LIGHTS, I ACCOMPLISHED THE FIX MYSELF TO REPAIR THE BROKEN WIRE. THIS FIX ONLY LASTED SEVERAL MONTHS BEFORE THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN. I HAVE NOW "FIXED" IT MYSELF 3 TIMES. I HAVE MY CAR AT THE MERCEDES BENZ DEALER CURRENTLY AND MENTIONED THE PROBLEM TO THEM. THEY ARE AWARE OF IT AND WANT TO CHARGE ME TO FIX IT. BOUGHT CAR NEW AND LOVE IT. BUT LAST WEEK THE RIGHT LOW BEAM HEADLIGHT FAILED. I HAD LEFT AND RIGHT H7 STANDARD LOW BEAM HALOGEN BULBS CHANGED SINCE THE FRONT BUMPER HAS TO BE REMOVED. LATER THAT DAY THE NEW LEFT SIDE H7 FAILED. SO MY MECHANIC EXPLAINED THAT THE HELLA LIGHT FIXTURE SEEN IN MB, BMW, ETC.. COMMONLY HAVE PREMATURE DISINTEGRATION OF WIRING INSULATION. THEY PULLED BOTH LIGHT FIXTURES, SHOWING ME THE BARE WIRES INSIDE BOTH FIXTURES. THE MB WIRING HARNESS WAS UNAFFECTED. FOR THE COST OF ABOUT $1200 I REPLACED BOTH HELLA HEADLIGHT FIXTURES. I REVIEWED BMW AND MB FORUMS ONLINE AND IN BOTH THERE ARE SIMILAR DISCUSSIONS ABOUT HELLA WIRE INSULATION FAILURE IN HEADLIGHTS. THIS IS A DANGEROUS AND EXPENSIVE ISSUE. FROM THE FORUMS IT SEEMS THAT FIRES HAVE OCCURRED. IT IS POSSIBLE THAT AUTO ACCIDENTS HAVE HAPPENED WHEN NIGHT LIGHTING HAS FAILED. AT A MINIMUM THERE HAVE BEEN MANY EXPENSIVE REPAIRS THAT SHOULD BE PART OF A RECALL. THE CONTACT PULLED THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD TO INVESTIGATE THE FAILURE AND THEN DROVE TO HIS RESIDENCE. THERE WERE NO FAILURES OR WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT. THE VEHICLE INVOLVED WAS A 2007 MERCEDES BENZ E350. PREMATURE WEAR ON THE INSIDE CORNER OF MY TIRES. THIS WAS ULTIMATELY DISCOVERED ON ALL FOUR TIRES. THIS LEAD TO BELT SEPARATION ON ALL TIRES AND A LOST OF BELTING ON THE LEFT FRONT OF THE CAR THAT CAUSED DRIVER SURPRISE THAT DEMANDED A DRAMATIC EMERGENCY STOP. THIS EXPOSED ME TO HIGHWAY TRAFFIC AND ALMOST CAUSED AN ACCIDENT WHILE PULLING OVER IN A SHOCKED AND CONCERNED STATE. THESE TIRES WERE RECOMMENDED FOR MY CAR BY THE RETAILER AND MET BOTH THE SPEED RATING AND PERFORMANCE REQUIRED. HOWEVER, I THERE APPEAR TO BE A VEHICLE MANUFACTURER DEFECT WITH THE ALIGNMENT COMPONENTS. NO TIRES APPEAR TO HOLD UP TO THE CHALLENGING DEMANDS OF THIS APPLICATION. THIS FAILURE IS DANGEROUS. HAD IT HAPPENED AT NIGHT OR ON A WET SURFACE, THE CONSEQUENCES WOULD HAVE BEEN MUCH MORE SEVERE. NOTE: THIS WAS ON A CAR THAT WAS FULLY IN ALIGNMENT, WITH FACTORY WHEELS AND SUSPENSION. THE CAR WAS DRIVEN ONLY AS A COMMUTER. NO RACING OR OTHER EXTREME DRIVING. I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE AROUND 9/10/11 WITH FAIRLY NEW TIRES. THE 1ST TIME THIS ISSUED OCCURRED TO WAS WITH THE TWO FRONT TIRES AROUND 12/15/2011. THE 2ND TIME THIS ISSUE HAPPENED WAS WITH THE TWO REAR TIRES AROUND 4/13/12. I JUST REPLACED THE TWO FRONT TIRES (40K WARRANTY TIRES) AGAIN WITH ONLY 28K MILES ON THEM. THE 3RD TIME, THE SAME TIRE RETAILER INFORMED ME HE COULD NOT REPLACE MY TIRES FREE BECAUSE THEY WERE WORN IMPROPERLY ON THE INSIDE LIKE AN ALIGNMENT ISSUE. I INFORMED HIM THAT THE CAR HAD AN ALIGNMENT ABOUT 10 MONTHS AGO AND THE TIRES SHOULD NOT BE DOWN TO THE BELTS ALREADY. ON 7/16/13, I HAD TO BUY NEW TIRES AND ANOTHER 4-WHEEL ALIGNMENT. PURCHASED CAR IN AUGUST 2007, HAVE DRIVEN 40,000 MILES AND HAVE REPLACED 2 STOCK RIMS, 6 AFTER-MARKET RIMS AND FIVE RELATIVELY NEW TIRES DUE TO JUST AVERAGE POTHOLES THAT ANY OTHER CAR WOULD SIMPLY ROLL OVER. SPENT OVER $2K JUST ON DIAGNOSIS AND WRONG FIXES. IT STARTED WITH PROBLEMS CRANKING. I REPLACED THE KEY FOB, REPLACED THE BATTERY, REPLACED THE ALTERNATOR, HAVE HAD MERCEDES DIAGNOSE WITH NO ANSWERS. MY USUAL MECHANIC DIAGNOSE WITH NO ANSWERS. A EUROPEAN SPEACIALIST REPLACED THE ALTERNATOR AND TENSIONER PULLEY. TOOK IT TO A FRIEND AND WE DISCOVERED THAT THERE WAS A LEAK IN THE SUNROOF RUNNING DOWN THE SIDE OF THE CAR INTO THE BATTERY COMPARTMENT. AT THIS POINT VARIOUS PROBLEMS ARE GOING ON. THE WINDOWS, DOOR LOCKS, RADIO, CRANKING, ALL INTERMITTENT BUT NOT ALWAYS AT THE SAME TIME. TOOK IT TO ANOTHER MECHANIC WHO SAID THE SANS MODULE IS BAD, AT LEAST. AN $800 FIX, THEN THEY COULD MOVE TO THE NEXT MODULE AND THE NEXT. ALSO MAYBE UNRELATED BUT MAYBE NOT. LOW CAR LIGHT CAME ON. ENGINE 'DIED' (VEHICLE LOST ALL POWER) WHILE TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY SPEED OR WILL JERK DOWN GEARS AND ONLY CONTINUE TO FUNCTION IN DRIVE @ 40MPH OR LOWER. I HAD TO PULL VEHICLE OVER ON SIDE OF THE ROAD WITH NO POWER ASSISTANCE STEERING OR BRAKING. THIS PROBLEM OCCURRED WITH NO WARNING AND AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS CREATING AN IMMENSE SAFETY RISK. MANY OTHERS HAVE REPORTED THE SAME ISSUE WITH THIS AND RELATED CARS FOR THIS AND NEARBY MODEL YEARS. LIKE THEM, I WONDER WHY THERE IS NO RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE BRAKES, ROTORS, AND BALL JOINTS WERE FAULTY, AND ALL FOUR TIRES WERE WORN. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE CONTACT PURCHASED THE VEHICLE ON JULY 4, 2017. LESS THAN THREE YEARS AFTER DRIVING OFF OF THE USED CAR LOT, THE SERPENTINE BELT FRACTURED, THE BRAKES DID NOT WORK, THE BALL JOINTS WERE FAULTY, THE TIRES WERE WORN, AND THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG DID NOT WORK. 30 AUG.16 TOOK MY 07 E350 WITH 29427 MILES TO THE DEALERSHIP BECAUSE THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE CAR WAS HARD STARTING. LUCKILY IT STARTED SO WE COULD SAFELY EXIT THE BUSY MAJOR INTERSECTION. AFTER A DIAGNOSTIC TEST WAS RAN, I WAS INFORMED THE CRANKSHAFT HALL SENSOR WAS DEFECTIVE. ADDITIONALLY, THE ENGINE CONTROL UNIT, ENGINE WIRING HARNESS, CRANK SENSOR AND VARIOUS OTHER COMPONENTS ARE OIL SOAKED. I NOTIFIED MERCEDES BENZ TO BE TOLD THE CAR WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. MERCEDES BENZ SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THE UNSAFE DEFECTIVE MATERIALS THEY USE. THE ABOVE ISSUES ARE A DANGER TO THE OCCUPANTS AND GENERAL PUBLIC AS WELL. PURCHASED CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED CAR IN JUNE 2012. ON OR ABOUT FEB 2013, CAR STARTED HAVING ILLUMINATING ODOR IN THE CABIN THAT RESEMBLED FUEL OR ANTI-FREEZE. GARAGE AND CAR ODOR WAS SO BAD IT ACTUALLY ENTERED MY HOME AND I HAD TO LEAVE THE GARAGE DOOR OPEN TO VENTILATE. WENT ON LINE AND FOUND OTHER OWNERS EXHIBITING EXACT DEFECT. TOOK VEHICLE TO MERCEDES DEALER AND WAS INFORMED THAT A LEAK FROM THE FUEL TANK WAS THE CAUSE AND IT WAS NOT FROM DAMAGE BUT FROM THE SENDING UNIT AND LINES. THE DEALER INFORMS ME THAT THE REPAIR IS NOT COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY AND THAT IT WILL COST $2100.00 TO FIX. AFTER READING THE WARRANTY AND CONTACTING MERCEDES DIRECTLY, I CONTACTED THE DEALER AND INFORMED THEM THAT IT IS A COVERED ITEM AND THEY SHOULD MAKE THE REPAIR AS A WARRANTIED ITEM. THEY RE-CHECKED WITH MERCEDES AND CALLED ME BACK AND STATED THAT THEY HAD "DID SOMETHING IN THE SYSTEM TO MAKE IT REJECT" AND IT IS A COVERED REPAIR AND WILL BE FIXED UNDER THE WARRANTY. I AM MAKING THIS COMPLAINT BECAUSE I BELIEVE THAT THE REPLACEMENT UNIT WILL BE THE SAME OEM PART THAT HAS NOT BEEN MODIFIED TO SOLVE THIS FAILURE FROM DUPLICATING LATER. *TR

BEGINNING AT APPROXIMATELY 60,500 MILES MY 2007 MERCEDES BENZ E350 4MATIC SEDAN DEVELOPED A STRONG GASOLINE ODOR INSIDE THE VEHICLE. THIS SMELL PROGRESSIVELY GOT STRONGER AND UPON INSPECTION AT THE DEALERSHIP IT WAS FOUND THAT THE SENDING UNITS ATTACHED TO THE FUEL TANKS BELOW THE REAR DRIVER'S SIDE AND PASSENGER SIDE SEATS WERE LEAKING FUEL THROUGH A FAULTY SEAL CAUSING THE FUEL TO ABSORB INTO THE SEAT CUSHION. MY VEHICLE WAS LISTING TO THE RIGHT SIDE. I TOOK THE VEHICLE FOR REPAIRS TO A NEIGHBORHOOD GARAGE WHO INFORMED ME THAT THAT IT HAD A DEFECT THAT NEEDED TO BE CORRECTED BY THE DEALER. THE DEALER SAID IT NEEDED REPAIR TO THE AIRBAG, SHOCKS & STRUTS (COSTING ME OVER $4000). AFTER RESEARCH I DISCOVERED THERE HAVE BEEN EIGHT TSB'S ON THIS PARTICULAR VEHICLE (IN 2008, 2009 AND 2010), ALL REFERENCING DEFECTS TO THE STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY. THIS WAS A DANGEROUS PROBLEM THAT COULD HAVE RESULTED IN AN ACCIDENT WITH INJURY TO MY FAMILY, MYSELF AND/OR OTHER INNOCENT PARTIES. I BELIEVE YOUR OFFICE SHOULD BE MADE AWARE OF THIS DANGEROUS SITUATION. WAS THERE A RECALL ON THIS VEHICLE? I TOOK MY 2007 MERCEDES BENZ BLUTECH TO THE DEALER FOR THE ONCE A YEAR "B" SERVICE. WHILE THEY WERE DOING THE SERVICE, THEY NOTICED DIESEL FUEL LEAKING BEHIND THE LEFT REAR TIRE. I HAD THEM PERFORM AN INSPECTION FOR $135 AND THEY DETERMINED THAT FUEL WAS LEAKING OUT OF THE LEFT FUEL LEVEL SENDER AREA WITH NO VISUAL DAMAGE. THEY RECOMMENDED REPLACING LEFT TANK SEAL AND INSPECTING TANK AND SENSOR FOR CRACKS FOR $368. BEFORE HAVING THE WORK PERFORMED , I WENT ON THE INTERNET AND FOUND OTHERS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THEIR MERCEDES WITH NHTSA ACTION #PE12001. WE HAD NO FUEL SMELL OR ANY INDICATIONS THERE WAS A LEAK. I FEEL THIS IS A SERIOUS DEFECT AND MERCEDES BENZ SHOULD RECALL THESE VEHICLES BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 MERCEDES BENZ E350. ON JUNE 25, 2007, WHILE IDLING AT A RED LIGHT, THE CONTACT'S CHILD PULLED THE HANDLE AND OPENED THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE DOOR. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE DOORS DO NOT HAVE A CHILD SAFETY LOCKING MECHANISM. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 1,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 600.

I RECENTLY PURCHASED A BRAND NEW 07 SEDAN. PLEASE CONTACT ME TO DISCLOSE THE AUTOMAKER. RECENTLY, WHILE AT A RED LIGHT I NOTICED MY 2 YEAR OLD PULLING UP THE LOCK NOB AND THEN THE LEVER TO OPEN THE REAR DOOR! I IMMEDIATELY STOPPED TO ENGAGE THE CHILD PROOF LOCK ON THE REAR DOOR AND COULD NOT FIND THE LEVER. I CALLED THE DEALER AND THEN SPOKE WITH 3 SALES PEOPLE, 3 SERVICE PEOPLE INCLUDING SERVICE MANAGERS ETC ETC ... AT 2 DEALERSHIPS. THEY ALL TOLD ME DIFFERENT STORIES. 1) OF COURSE IT HAS THE FEATURE. 2) WE JUST HAVE TO FIND OUT HOW TO ACTIVATE IT. ET ETC ETC.. ALL WERE EVENTUALLY SHOCKED TO FIND OUT THAT THE CAR DID NOT HAVE IT!!!! I CALLED THE US HEADQUARTERS FOR THE MANUFACTURER AND THEY TELL ME THAT THEY DON'T HAVE SUCH A FEATURE AND HAVE NEVER HAD IT IN ANY OF THEIR CARS..! AND I SHOULD DISCIPLINE MY CHILD BETTER. WHY ARE THE DEALERSHIPS THAN NOT AWARE OF THIS AND I ACTUALLY HAD 2 SERVICE TECH'S LOOK FOR THE FUNCTION ALL OVER MY CAR THE OTHER DAY. I HAVE A CAR THAT I CANNOT USE TO TRANSPORT MY CHILDREN BECAUSE OF A FEAR THEY WILL OPEN THE REAR DOOR JUMP OR CAUSE A MAJOR ACCIDENT ON THE ROAD....THIS AUTOMAKER SHOULD NOT BE SELLING AUTOMOBILES IN THIS OR ANY OTHER COUNTRY WITHOUT HAVING A FEATURE THAT ALL OTHER CAR MAKERS HAVE. I NEED YOUR HELP TO NOTIFY OTHER PARENTS AND ANY OTHER GROUPS OF THIS IMPORTANT INFORMATION.
