How to read a Nissan Maxima VIN — every digit explained
Every Nissan Maxima carries a unique 17-character VIN stamped at the factory. Each position is a code — together they spell out where, when and how your car was built. Here's exactly what every digit means.
- WMI (1–3) — country & manufacturer. 4T1 = Toyota, built in the USA.
- VDS (4–8) — model line, body style, engine & restraint system.
- Check digit (9) — a math check that proves the VIN is genuine.
- Model year (10) — the year it was built. H = 2017.
- Plant (11) — which factory assembled this Maxima.
- Serial (12–17) — the unique sequential production number.
Model-year code (10th digit)
The 10th character is the model year. It cycles through letters and numbers, skipping I, O, Q, U, Z and 0 to avoid confusion:
Where to find your Maxima VIN
- Dashboard — driver's side, visible through the windshield from outside.
- Driver's door jamb — on the manufacturer sticker when you open the door.
- Paperwork — vehicle registration, title and insurance card.
- Engine bay & frame — stamped on the firewall or chassis on many models.

2002 Nissan Maxima recalls 9
Air Bags:frontal:driver Side:inflator Module
What's wrong. Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain air bag inflator replacement service parts that may have been installed as part of a theft or collision repair. The parts include certain passenger-side air bag inflators designed to fit Infiniti 2002-2003 QX4, 2006-2010 M35 and M45; Nissan 2001-2003 Maxima, 2002-2006 Sentra, and both driver and passenger-side inflators designed to fit 2007-2012 Versa Sedan and Versa Hatchback vehicles. Please see Nissan's recall report for the specific part numbers. These replacement inflators may explode due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to high absolute humidity, temperature and temperature cycling.
Risk. An inflator explosion may result in sharp metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants resulting in serious injury or death.
Fix. Dealers will inspect and replace the inflators as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed September 14, 2022. Owners may contact Nissan's customer service at 1-800-867-7669.
Vehicle Speed Control
What's wrong. On certain passenger vehicles equipped with an electronic throttle control system, the stopper for the accelerator pedal will prevent excessive movement of the accelerator position sensor. If the driver applies overly excessive force to the accelerator pedal while at the same time pushing it to the right, the pedal can "over travel" due to the design of the pedal stopper.
Risk. This will cause the engine malfunction indicator lamp to come on and the engine speed to be severely limited. If this occurs unexpectedly, it could lead to a crash.
Fix. Dealers will install a new accelerator pedal stopper. Owner notification began march 11, 2002. Owners who take their vehicles to an authorized dealer on an agreed upon service date and do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact nissan at 1-800-647-7261 or infiniti at 800-662-6200.
Power Train
What's wrong. On certain passenger vehicles equipped with a traction control system, the odometer in the subject vehicles registers distance in kilometers instead of miles as is specified in the design. The odometer does not have a label that indicates "kilometers" or "km" as required by fmvss no. 101, "controls and displays."
Fix. Dealers will inspect the odometer to determine if it is correct and, if not, will replace the speedometer/odometer assembly. Owner notification began december 12, 2001. Owners who take their vehicles to an authorized dealer on an agreed upon service date and do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact nissan at 1-800-647-7261.
Engine And Engine Cooling
What's wrong. On certain passenger vehicles, the circuit board for the crank position sensor or cam position sensor may have an improper solder joint due to solder deformation caused by heat stress accelerated by the existence of flux residue during the soldering process.
Risk. This could cause the "service engine soon" warning light to come on, create a no start condition, cause reduced engine power, or cause the engine to stop running without warning during vehicle operation, which could result in a crash.
Fix. Dealers will replace the crank position sensors. Camshaft position sensor(s), and in some cases, the variable timing control sensor(s). Vehicles involved in a previous recall campaign, 01v357, are also included in this new campaign. The replacement sensors used in that campaign are also affected. Owner notification began on december 22, 2003. Owners should contact nissan at 1-800-647-7261 or infiniti at 1-800-662-6200.
Suspension:front:control Arm:lower Arm
What's wrong. On certain passenger vehicles, the pin at the end of the front suspension transverse link (lower control arm) could break where it is mounted to the frame.
Risk. This can cause a knocking sound and abnormal steering. This could result in difficulty controlling the vehicle and increasing the risk of a crash.
Fix. Dealers will replace the transverse links on the left and right sides with new ones. Owner notification began july 29, 2002. Owners who take their vehicles to an authorized dealer on an agreed upon service date and do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact nissan at 1-800-647-7261 or infiniti at 1-800-662-6200.
Exterior Lighting:headlights
What's wrong. Dope, inc. Is recalling 42,540 combination corner and bumper lamp assemblies of various part numbers sold for use as aftermarket equipment for various passenger vehicles. These headlamps fail to conform to the requirements of federal motor vehicle safety standard no. 108, "lamps, reflective devices, and associated equipment." these lamps do not contain the required amber side reflectors.
Risk. Decreased lighting visibility may result in a vehicle crash.
Fix. Dope, inc. Will notify owners and offer a full refund for the noncompliant combination lamps. The safety recall began on july 28, 2009. Owners may contact dope, inc. At 1-626-272-1798.
Exterior Lighting

Upon deployment of the passenger side frontal air bag, excessive internal pressure may cause the inflator to rupture.
Risk. In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the passenger's frontal air bag, the inflator could rupture with metal fragments striking the vehicle occupants potentially resulting in serious injury or death.
Fix. Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will replace the passenger air bag inflator, free of charge. The recall began on June 15, 2015. Fuel System, Gasoline:storage:tank Assembly:filler Pipe And Cap
What's wrong. It is possible for a mixture of mud and salt to get trapped between the fuel filler tube and wheel housing. The trapped mud and salt can result in corrosion of the fuel filler tube and the wheel housing.
Risk. Significant corrosion of the fuel filler tube may result in fuel leaks which in the presence of an ignition source could result in a fire. In addition, the left rear seat belt retractor is mounted to the wheel housing and in the event of significant corrosion, and the mounting could fail in a vehicle crash.
Fix. Dealers will inspect these vehicles and corrective action will be taken depending upon the extent of the corrosion.
Wheels
What's wrong. The aluminum wheels were clear coated several times to protect the metal finish. Some excessive coating can leave the wheel nuts an excessive distance from the wheel hub when tightened, allowing them to loosen over time.
Risk. This can cause the hub bolts to break and result in the wheel separating from the vehicle and a possible accident.
Fix. Dealers will remove the clear plastic coating from the brake rotor mating surface on the back of each wheel and from the wheel nut mating surfaces. The wheels will be reinstalled and the wheel nuts tightened. Wheels, hub bolts, and nuts will be replaced if necessary.

2004 nissan maxima all features had locked up. Consumer tried to fix the problem, when trying the car jumped out of park and rolled down the driveway hitting a taurus and a trailer. Airbags did not deploy. *kb ***nar*** the consumer was injured and as the vehicle was rolling down the driveway a family member, which the vehicle nearly missed fell backwards and broke her wrist. The consumer stated there was no reason for the gear shift to lock or for the vehicle to jump and roll. The vehicle had been placed in park and the parking brake had been pulled prior to the incident. *jb
Headlights disabled in rain car varied right drastically and in park it still go in motion *ln*jb
While pulling into a parking space, I heard my engine racing. Immediately, I felt the car lurch forward. To avoid misapplying my foot to the gas pedal, I withdrew both my feet to the floor, next to the seat. The car continued forward at a fast rate. The car stopped going forward after it struck s building. However, the tires kept spinning, especially the front left tire. The engine ran briefly, until it stopped spontaneously. A few days previously, while driving at about 40 miles per hour on level ground, I felt the gas pedal to be unresponsive. Then it quickly reengaged. I mentioned this to my husband and he suggested that there may have been an air bubble in the fuel line. I don't know if the two events are related. Also, possibly related, I stopped using cruise control, because the car would surge and lapse during use. My insurance company is pursuing spontaneous acceleration. I visited my primary care physician the afternoon of the accident and was diagnosed with whiplash.
I recently bought a 2005 nissan maxima from carmax it was about a month after i bought the car the transmission started to slip and change gears really rough. The transmission hesitates when changing gears either at idle or while driving the transmission does it the most between first and second and second to third and when downshifting in those same gears. My main concern is my family in this vehicle or any other families in the same vehicle when we are driving in the vehice our heads and necks get whipped back and forth very roughly. It is a safety hazard due to the transmission changing gears on its own while im driving the car. I only ask for you to please look into this and make it a recall. Nissan did not want to help me out or anyone else. I have seen numerous complaints and heard numerous stories about this problem. It needs to be resolved. Nissan put out a poor product and wont fix it. They need to own up to their mistake, before someone gets injured or dies. I ask of you please look into this. Not only for my safety or my infant's safety but for anyone who owns this vehicle. Ps. If i would have known about this issue before i bought the car i would have never gotten it. Pps. The test drive and the 1st month were fine until normal driving conditions occurred. Please help, please help! Get this recall active! Thanks, frank
Car kept jerking between gears, engine rev'd to 5000 rpms car lunged forward - hitting trailer hitch and rear end of an suv stopped in road construction. *js
I bought a 2005 nissan maxima sl in january 2010, so about 8 months ago. It drove beautifully, it was smooth and everything. I changed the oil, got a transmission flush, new tires, everything. A few days after i got it, i was involved in an accident. I was driving in the rain and preparing to make a left turn, and as i was doing that it stalled, then jerked and hydroplaned at the intersection and into the incoming lane of traffic into another car. I had to take it to the shop to repair it which took a few months. Then, about 3 months ago, i noticed that the car started to get worse and would stall and then jerk when i would reverse the car from park. Specifically when reversing out of a parking space. As the weeks went by, it got even worse. The car would violently jerk while switching from 1st to 2nd gear or when braking suddenly or when accelerating suddenly. Sometimes while accelerating, the car will stall, the engine revs up, and then the car would violently jerk forward as if it was hit from behind. In one instance i pulled over on the side of the highway to make sure that i wasn't hit by a car, with the latter not being the case at all. It happens everytime i drive it now. I took it to a transmission specialist and he thought that it needed a new sensor, so he installed it, and told me that it didn't stop the jerking. Then i got another transmission flush and it hasn't helped the situation. *tr
My 2005 nissan maxima's transmission started slipping in the september of 2009, i had maintenance done on the entire car done including the transmission which stopped the problem temporarily. By january of 2010 the problem came back and worst. The car would stop in the middle of traffic and it took about 5 seconds for the car to change shift. It would also jerk very violently when changing shifts, so hard that i was almost pushed out to the car in front of me, i finally had it on april 5th 2010 when out of nowhere the transmission gave out entirely. I was going up a hill and the automatic transmission let go so it started going backwards fast, i pressed forward on the gas only to get a hard rev and nothing else. I kept going until i hit the brakes hard inadvertently making me hit a tree denting my bumper. My car is now sitting in my driveway until i come up with the money to pay for a brand new transmission. I spoke to nissan and they suggested i take my car to a certified dealer for a diagnostics run which cost me 100 dollars. They offered me a new transmission for 4500 but i haggled down to 2500. I am in college and cannot afford spending that kind of money. I am still paying off this car and it is causing me distress. If i don't get any help i don't know what i will do. *tr
I currently own a 2005 nissan maxima sl automatic transmission i bought it used at about 80,000km and its now at 103,000km. Since i bought it i have been more then disappointed and now furious with nissan. From purchase date which was august 2008 until now april 2009 i have been experiencing the car jerking from gear 1 to 2 and 2 down to 1. It went from a slight jerk and slip of the gears to a jerk so hard that it broke the engine mounts. I brought it in and got the engine mounts fixed and also had them do a diagnostics. I went to 4 different dealerships and 2 mechanics and no one knew what was wrong. Nissan kept telling me to get a transmission flush which i did twice and still did not solve the problem. I also got the timing belt replaced as well as got the vehicle checked out by a nissan transmission specialist. Not to mention every diagnostic test is $100. This car is not safe for me and my family. The intense jerking during acceleration and breaking is not only unsafe for us, but for others on the road. The most recent incident happened coming off the highway late one night when i was slowing down on the off ramp and the jerk was so severe that it had given myself and my passenger whip lash and caused us to spin out. After all the maintenance, parts replaced and i?m still experiencing the same problem means that nissan is not doing their job to get this rectified. It?s costing me too much time and money. I have to take time off work every time to get these things done and the same problems are recurring and now i don?t know what else to do. I recently read some reviews and i noticed that this is a popular problem within 2004-2005 nissan maxima?s but yet there has been no recalls and nothing has been done to compensate the consumer. I need something done asap because as of right now i have no other choice but to drive this faulty vehicle, unsure if i will make it to work or home at night. *tr

The vehicle was in motion. While turning steering wheel slightly left entering into a curve, the 4 tires of the vehicle did not follow the command given by the steering wheel. Please note that the steering wheel turned with great ease. While removing foot from accelerator, the car did not slow. The brakes were not working properly and caused the 2011 nissan maxima to collide with a fixed object. This incident did not occur at a speed fast enough to cause the severe injuries that resulted. The driver side airbag knocked me unconscious and i have no recollection from the moment right before "impact" to when the vehicle came to a complete stop. The children in the back seat were seriously injured. The 10 year old was wearing his seatbelt properly. The 3 year old was in a 5 point harness properly restrained. Recently, the office of [xxx] informed me that the back seat came loose during the accident which caused both children's severe injuries. The children in the back seat were not adequately protected by the vehicle due to the back seat unhooking during the accident therefore causing safety restraints to be inadequate and possibly even more harmful. I also want to mention that the left rear passenger airbag did not deploy where the 10 year old was. The vehicle is poorly designed to survive even a minor collision. I have not been able to access the vehicle since the accident and georgia state patrol tore it up before i could even have it inspected. I do not know where the vehicle is nor am i able to get that information. Georgia state patrol documented that the air bag on the left rear side did deploy but that document is inaccurate because i am a witness. I was on the highway headed to nashville, tennessee. I had beem driving aproximately 45 minutes when my gas pedal stop working on me. The car started slowing down and i start pulling over to get outbof other cars ways. The breaks were still working but the gas was not working. I turned the car on and off and still no gas but alll of the sudden all the lights came on so i had no choice but to call my insurance for roadside assistance. I have never had or heard of an issue like this.

My 2000 maxima is horrible i have the notorious coil problem plus i smashed into a pole and the car's air bags and the seat belts don't work you must hit the brake for the seat belt to lock and you need to really hit something real hard but at that point you may already be dead they need to address these problems ,they can be sued and i am going to congress with this, they are not sensitive to anyone's lives they should ban nissan company they are crooks huge law suit they can go down. *nm

On april 30, i was driving in the city, and as i was picking up speed (35-40mph). The driver side time broke causing the cv axle to give-out and me to loose control of my car. In addition, this is a brand new car that only has -4000 miles. I do not feel safe with this car because i am afraid that this is going to happen again. *tr
While driving approximately 65 mph, the gages on my instrument panel began to read erratic. Speedometer, fuel and tachometer drifted between zero and thier maximums. The instrument panel background lighting also began to flicker. The vehicle made it home. At home the dash was tapped a few times to see if it was a loose connection. Upon doing this, some of the gages began to read normal, while others began to read erratic. The vehicle would start and all the major systems appeared to operate normal; other than the gages and background lighting, which were still unreliable. The next day, 5/26/11, while the vehicle was being driven into a parking lot the gages and lighting started acting erratic, except this time smoke appeared from the bottom of the sta.tus display screen (the screen in the center of the dash board used to give information on time, maint, temperature). The engine was shut down immediately. The problem was found and fixed by a dealer. The problem was caused by a coin that had fallen into a gap that was formed by design or misalinement of the display screen and the shelf at the base of the screen. The screen is recessed 3.125 inches and declined at an angle of approx 18 deg. This allows any small objects to migrate to the display screen gap. The gap measures .114 inches across the base of the display. The coin (a dime) continued downward until it came in contact with an enclosed printed circuit (pc). The plastic enclosure has a small slot(.3125 x .78125) on top which allowed the coin to drop in and short out the pc. The replacement part doesn't have the slot. Two small holes burnt through the plastic enclosure. P/n of pc is 277607y00a/upr/5804. Will furnish photos upon request.
Tl*the contact owns a 2005 nissan maxima. The contact was driving approximately 40 mph on normal road conditions. Pressure was applied to the accelerator pedal, followed by an unintended lunge and forceful acceleration. The failure occurred whenever the vehicle was shifting in the first, second and third gears. The driver pulled over to the side of the road and turned the engine off. The vehicle restarted and resumed normal operation. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for diagnostic testing. The technician recommended replacement of the transmission. The vehicle has not been repaired at this time. The failure mileage was 61,000. Updated 03/04/10. *lj the consumer also complained that when accelerating, the transmission would jerk. The dealer found internal transmission failure. The transmission fluid was burned. Also the front and rear engine mounts were broken. The consumer had an accident due to the shifting problems with the transmission. 08/11/10. *jb
Shifting from reverse to drive, 1st to 2nd or 2nd to 3rd - engine revs, transmission jerks after short delay. When going on downhill bends this means that the car wants to jerk off the road, somewhat. Apparently due to improper cooling on the transmission fluid, it gets gummy, and then the solenoids clog up and get stuck. There is also a lot of wear on the gears. For the first repair, a flush and replacing the solenoids will usually give another 20k miles, but the problem doesn't get fixed unless a custom cooling system is put on the transmission lines. It's a crappy design. Instead of running the cooling lines to the engine and putting a thermostat on a switch, there should be a dedicated cooler on the transmission. Also, it's ridiculously hard to get to the transmission fluid filter, which is inside the transmission case. How hard would it have been to put an external filter down in the pan? *tr
Good morning, i currently own 2004 maxima & have been experiencing major problems with this car for about 2-3 years. My major problem at first was my transmission. Apparently the dealership states i will need a new transmission which is absurd since the car is not even 10 yrs old. I knew there was a problem when the car started jerking on its own. At times it jerks real hard when shifting from 1st to 2nd and it is quite scary & embarrassing. When the problem started, i have two friends who were owners of a nissan maxima as well and they were experiencing the same jerking transmission problems. They eventually traded their cars but i not wanted to go through the whole process of financing a car, i figured i'll fix the problem. The transmission is one problem but why every couple of months there is other problems as well. For example i last year i had to change my catalytic converter, my mounts, and my routers. Now what has made me at my ends with this car is what happened last month (june 2009). While driving, there was a loud sound, i opened the hood of the car and right buy the engine, and there were flames. The fire dept was called along with the police. As i submit my complaint now my car is still at the shop. This has become a frustrated and very expensive issue that i have been facing. Honestly i have spent about 5k's or more on this car, not considering that i'm still financing as well. How is it that, i have done my research and there are many others out there who have the same issue. Nissan needs to take full responsibility and it is not a coincidence also. I have documents and emails from others who are also experiencing the same issue (over 300 complaints since 2006). Pls if anything, there needs to be an investigation, many ppl are suffering and losing $ as well. *tr
I have had numerous ignition coils replaced over the course of the last 16 months. Several times incurring weeks without the vehicle. There have been several electrical problems resulting in part replacement and the engine catching on fire. Nissan corporate sent technicians to research the issue and had to replace the engine as a result of the fire, saying fortunately i stopped the vehicle before the fire got out of control. Under the hood was charred and melted plastic and oil. Since having the engine replaced, i have gone 9 months and have the same problems with coil failures and replacement. I am perusing lemon law action at this time but need to see what else can be done. I am at the point where i have no confidence in the vehicle and everytime i smell something out of the ordinary, i fear that i will see more smoke and another fire. The technician said the ground wire from the battery was shorting out against the body of the engine and transmission. The wire that was replace 9 months ago was replaced again two weeks ago for corroding completely through and making contact with the engine again. *jb
My nissan was parked on the street about 11:00 pm. The following morning, just before 7:00 am, i had knocking at my door and it was the fireman wanting the keys to my car so they could access the latch to open the hood. Smoke was coming out of the sides of the hood and the firemen were already spraying my hood as the engine was on fire. Since the latch did not work, an electric saw was used to open it. The engine was doused with the fire hose till the smoke stopped. You could see that the whole engine was black. The fire was so strong that the front was sitting on top of the front tire. It has been reported as an accident with cause unknown and must have been burning anywhere from 30 to 90 minutes. Odd that a fire would start since the car was sitting overnight for 6 to 7 hours, cold. I was fortunate not to be in the car. It was lucky that it was a rainy day and caught early by a neighbor before it affected any other cars, people, and residential area by blowing up. It will be interesting to see nissan's explanation to this incident.
With my 1999 nissan maxima se v6, egr valve related issues were detected and engine light started to come up soon after the ignition. According to nissan dealer, oxygen sensors and egr valves work is need that would cost $1800 or more. At that time the car mileage was around 80,000. I could not afford to fix that. But later one of the rod in the engine broken, fire started under the engine while i was driving at 70 m/h on the highway. My family was in a great danger and we were lucky to survive with the help of police and fire engine when someone called 911. There has been another complain about egr value on nhtsa web site by another nissan maxima owner. *tr

Failure of multiple systems upon impact with a pothole causing the vehicle to light up brake warning light, traction control system warning light, and spin out with no steering capability, resulting in a total loss of the car, including the rear passenger tire and wheel to sheer off, snapped the tie rod, ripped off the rear bumper, and bent the vehicle rims. I suffered a closed head injury and whiplash, as well as soft tissue damage to right shoulder and knee. Airbags did deploy.
Two days after i bought my car from the dealership i had to have it towed from my house because it was unsafe to drive, field steering was so out of control i had a hard time keeping in my lane the brakes were if you were to just touch the brakes the slightest you would go out the windshield practically. After they claimed to have fixed the steering issues, i picked my car up from the shop and i was going down the city street and it jerked so hard to the right that i jumped the curb almost hit a bush and three people walking in the dealership told me it was my problem not theirs.*dt*jb

On June 6th. 2019 my 2005 nissan maxima struck a disabled vehicle left in the middle lane of the Long Island Expressway (a 3 laned highway). Although I was traveling at 60 mph when the collision occurred and struck the disabled vehicle from the rear, the passenger airbag never deployed. This resulted in the passenger receiving significantly more serious injuries than that of the driver (who's airbag did deploy).

The vehicle was towed to a tow lot. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for body repairs. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing. My 3 girls and 1 of their friends were in my vehicle and they were ran off the road and the car went off the road into an embankment. The driver side air bag did not deploy but the passenger side air bag did and it broke my daughter's nose. I contact nissan about the airbag not deploying and was told it all depends on where most of the damage of the car is (all of the damage was on the driver front side). Everyone was taking to the er and the daughter with the worst injury was referred to a specialist because of the impact and because the airbag shattered the inside of her nose into pieces it was nothing to do to repair. My daughter plays basketball and i couldn't even get a nose brace for protection. This was a terrible experience for the girls and i wish no parent will ever have to experience anything like this. I saw the story on the cbs evening news (aired 10/2/14) where the long lady is suing honda because of that what airbag did to her). Airbags appears to do more harm than good. Although my car was a total lost, i am thankful that the girls are still alive. *tr

Fuel injector fire.
I have a 2007 nissan maxima and my car shot out of a car wash and across 4 lanes of traffic and crashed into federal property. After the car was pushed from the dry option i put my foot on the brake took the car out of neutral, put it into drive and the car took off like a rocket. I had both feet on the brakes and had to use two hands to steer the car away from traffic. I had the choice of a light pole or a fence on federal property. I decided on the fence to be the least damaging. My grandson was in the car and it all happened within two minutes. I made eye contract with drivers to my left and right and honked my horn and everyone around saw i was having a problem and they stopped. I had no brakes and i reported this to nissan and that was over two months ago and they are looking into this but i have not had a definite answer from them. I told them i need something to be done and that i feel i am driving an unsafe vehicle. They sent a contractor out twice to check it all out. The second time was for a test drive and checking the electrical system. Something failed in this car and i have only this car to drive to work. I do not feel safe, i want a fix. No one has said that it can or should be fixed. The dealership is not helping me at all. *tr

My 1996 nissan maxima caught on fire by itself in the midnight, and it was almost completely destroyed by the fire. I received the vehicle from my friend as a gift, which was in a very good condition. And i also paid the buckner's auto service center at knoxville, tn for checking the car in detail and getting it repaired. But 8 days after, the car was on fire. During the 8 days, the car was parked in the parking lot in front of my apartment, and nobody ever touched the car. It's cloudy or rainy in all these days. Though fortunately my wife and i were safe, we were really scared and my wife was afraid of vehicles from then on. We have arrived at the u.s less than 2 months, and this incident almost completely disrupted our lives. The following is the description from the knoxville police department crime report: the vehicle had not been driven for eight days. Interviewed car owner, who states he has been in the us for about one month, and had received the vehicle as a gift from a friend. He said that he had taken the car for repairs and to be serviced at buchners auto repair on 9/8/2009 and had an invoice of the work performed. He said that the car had not been driven since then because he was still in the process of obtaining his driver license. There was only an 8 mile difference the invoice mileage and the cars odometer reading. Investigation of the vehicle revealed an engine compartment fire. The car was locked and hood was secure when eng 12 arrived. Then had to force the hood since the cable did not function due to fire damage. Areas of high heat were indicated on the hood over the battery and fuel/air intake locations. Also of note was that the cooling fans were destroyed and one had fallen to the ground. This fire is considered to accidental and the cause to be a mechanical or electrical malfunction. The owner does not have insurance on the vehicle. Suggested that the owner take photos and contact buchners to check for any recalls or to's for this vehicle. *tr

Car won't stop when stepping on brakes
I pray that this information will be used to prevent any and all similar incidents from occurring. I pray that you investigate similar claims and find enough evidence to get these dangerous cars off the road. *tt see also odi 11130128. *dsy information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

The contact owned a 2022 Nissan Maxima. The contact stated that while her granddaughter was driving at 40 MPH and attempting to stop at a stop sign, with the brake pedal depressed all the way to the floorboard, the vehicle failed to stop. As a result, the driver swerved in an attempt to avoid a collision, side-swiping the vehicle ahead and colliding with 3 light poles before coasting to a complete stop on the shoulder of the roadway. The air bags did not deploy during the impact, resulting in the driver sustaining minor injuries. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was towed to a tow yard and deemed a total loss by the insurance company. A police report was filed. The contact's granddaughter sustained nondescript injuries to her head and knees but did not seek medical treatment. The contact also stated that, though she was made aware that the driver of the other vehicle had reported injuries, the injuries and treatment were unknown. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

Airbags/safety restraints/on-off switches & other modifications i am again stating great concern over legal regulations regarding vehicle/&/or components -modifications/complaints/problemsetc & the reporting statutes thereto as i am perceiving them from frm nrm & various sites i read that vehicle modifications of safety standards inclusive of airbag on-off switches &/or deactivation was not reported to nhtsa until april of 2001 & therefore would not be accessible to consumers even if it was voluntarily submitted by applicant however if performed by vehicle dealership would be on record & subsequent buyer would be unaware & would not reflect on vin search however dealership should & does have responsibility on resale to inspect said vehicle & bring it to federal standards how do i search a dealership to find modifications they authorized or made to a vehicle supposedly listed in the federal registry of which i was the 2nd owner & received an urgent recall card notification specifying modification 120705 i did respond numerous x to them & nissan consumer affairs & blatantly told there were no recalls /service bulletins or anything else & i received this card in error i need answers & am disgusted at the runaround & deception now 3 major collisions later with no airbag deployment & seat belt failure as well as numerous other issues i am begging for the truth enough nonsense !!!
