Is Royal Enfield reliable?

Across rated models, Royal Enfield averages a 4.5/5 ForCar Reliability Score, with 20 models rated 4★ or higher. Each model is scored from NHTSA crash-test safety, recall frequency and the share of owner complaints involving a crash, fire or injury — not user reviews.

Royal Enfield positions in the middleweight (350cc-650cc) cruiser, retro-roadster and adventure-motorcycle segments globally. The brand's positioning emphasizes affordable, low-stress-of-ownership motorcycles with classic British styling — explicitly competing with Triumph Bonneville, Harley-Davidson Sportster (entry trims), Honda Rebel and BMW R nineT at significantly lower price points ($4,000-$7,000 in the US). Royal Enfield outsells all other 250cc-700cc motorcycle brands globally by units.

About Royal Enfield

The Enfield Cycle Company was founded in 1893 in Redditch, Worcestershire, manufacturing bicycles and rifle parts (the Royal Enfield name comes from the Royal Small Arms Factory in Enfield, where the company built parts for British military rifles). The first Royal Enfield motorcycle launched in 1901. The British parent company ceased motorcycle production in 1970 amid the Japanese-led decline of the British motorcycle industry. Enfield India had been licensed to build the Bullet for the Indian Army from 1955; Eicher Motors acquired Enfield India in 1994 and revived the global brand with the 2018 Interceptor 650 and Continental GT 650.
