My car refused to start-pressed the ignition and it sputted, lots of lights went on and off and then the running lights came on and stayed on and ran the rest of the battery out. Had to charge it for hours to get it started again.

We purchased a used 2020 Subaru Accent from a dealership on 11/16/23. Twice since that date the car would not start due to the battery not having enough charge to start it. The dealership that we bought it from stated that prior to the sale date they had a new battery installed.

Car was unresponsive and would not start. It was just purchased certified used on 5/8/2023. On 5/10/2023 AAA replaced the battery and on 5/12/2023 the battery died again as a result the car did not start and was unresponsive. Tailgate was beeping in both situations.

Battery would drain to the point where it would need to be jumped to start. I carried a jump starter in the car during the cold months. Finally took car to be inspected and they told me that the problem was my battery and that I needed to replace it with a $465 battery. I’ve been dealing with this issue for 2 years and now I have found out that the car has a defect that drains the battery.

On Tuesday, January 3, I had a THIRD chip in my windshield. This just happened yesterday, so I have not had it evaluated yet. HOWEVER, this will be the THIRD chip that I will have to have repaired in the three short years I've owned this vehicle. The first chip happened within a month of owning the vehicle, and there is a current NHTSA complaint on file (11297348) for this chip. The second chip occurred in September 2022, and I have had that one repaired. NEITHER of the repairs "held" past 30 days. I have NEVER owned a vehicle that had a windshield that chipped so easily. I'm very surprised that this has not been a recall issue yet (as the glass repair shop suggested it should be- they see this ALOT with Subarus).

Front windshield has cracked for a second time. The initial windshield purchased with the vehicle cracked, and was replaced in 2020. The second windshield has now cracked, and is pending repair.

We've had this car for a little over 2 years and have had 3 cracked windshields, seems like anything that hits it causes a crack. I've been driving for over 45 years and multiple cars and have had cracked windshields 2 or 3 times. This doesn't make any sense. Thank you.

While parked, I adjusted the rear view mirror to my driving position. I heard a cracking noise and saw a crack go about three inches down from the rear view mirror on the windshield. Over night it spread from the mirror all the way down to the base of the windshield. I inspected the windshield for impact damage and found none.
Oct 10, 2022
My windshield cracked for no reason. There is no point of impact. The vehicle is just over 2 years old and has been driven approx 7000 miles. I don't drive a lot, and live in a pretty rural area where there is little traffic. When I picked up my son from daycare the day before there was no crack. The next morning when I got in the car to go drop him off, there was a substantial crack. This seems to be a common problem with this vehicle, according to searches online. The vehicle was parked in my driveway, and nowhere near any trees. It did not storm that night. I cannot see any reason the windshield would have cracked.

POWER TRAIN

The CVT transmission has failed and been replaced three times despite proper maintenance. Subaru has replaced the transmission multiple times under warranty, but the failure continues to recur. •First CVT replacement at 50,542 miles •Second CVT replacement at 88,175 miles •Third CVT replacement at 92,832 miles This shows repeat failure, not wear-and-tear. It is a safety risk: The vehicle hesitates and loses power intermittently, which creates a safety risk when accelerating or merging into traffic. The most recent replacement is incorrectly listed as pan replacement.
Jan 02, 2026
My 2020 Subaru Ascent experienced a sudden failure of critical safety systems due to CVT fluid leaking through the transmission pressure switch into multiple electrical components. This fluid leak damaged several wire harnesses and the Engine Control Module (ECM). The check engine light came on and all Eyesight safety features disabled. Subaru has confirmed this will cost over $9,400 to repair. This issue appears to be related to known Subaru Technical Service Bulletins, including TSB 16-103-16R and TSB 02-170-17R, and matches the description in NHTSA Campaign WUV-07. Subaru of America has refused to fully cover the repair, even though my car is well maintained, has only 54,000 miles, and is just 4 months outside the powertrain warranty. This is not normal wear—it’s a serious defect that causes electronic failure and disables safety systems while driving.

Ever since our car went in for re-programing CVT drive chain it progressively has been having a problem of something slipping in drive and in cruise control. feels like a loss of power and a feeling chatter from transmission. Now when you put it in drive it makes a jerking noise. the thing is that we never had this problem until it went in for this recall. it's been back twice and they claim they can't find any problem but continues to get worse. it happens every time we drive it . just returned a 700 mile trip and it's very annoying. Also we do have an extended warranty.

The contact owns a 2020 Subaru Ascent. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle, the transmission malfunctioned, and the vehicle would not properly accelerate. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who serviced the rear differential but later the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was taken back to the local dealer to be diagnosed, and it was determined that the transmission was faulty and needed to be replaced. The transmission was replaced. No further information was available. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 106,100.

The contact owns a 2020 Subaru Ascent. The contact stated that while his wife was driving at 55 MPH, the vehicle stalled. No warning lights illuminated. The contact stated that the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V955000 (Power Train). The vehicle was towed to the local dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 62,000.

Vehicle: 2020 Subaru Ascent Issue: Cold weather software glitch If you are operating an Ascent or possibly other Subarus with the CVT in temperatures below -20F be certain to have either a small wrench or the appropriate size socket to loosen the ground clamp on the battery ground cable with you so you can employ what I call the magic Windows fix wherin one completely de-powers the system and reboots it. With all the ridiculous interconnections, if the CVT temperature sensor thinks the tranny is too cold the cars operating system looses it mind and goes completely bonkers. Subaru obviously did no cold weather testing. We have had 2 failures in cold weather. It only happens at temperatures well below the-20F range. The first case happened last year while driving after being stopped for a couple of hours. Everything seemed normal and then suddenly several warning lights came on and all of the safety systems and the eyesight system shut down. The car ran and drove, but none of the associated systems would work. No traction control. No cruise control. Several other systems. The only solution was to disconnect the battery and get this rolling computer to reboot. This was a temporary fix as the condition repeated itself although the car was driveable but with none of the safety systems operational. This year we were out in cold weather, -25 to -32. We went to a place to have lunch and when I went to restart the car the app failed to do so. So I put on all my gear and went out to start it manually. It would not start and all the warning lights were on and the radiator fan was running full tilt at -25F with the car off. I tried twice to get it going by pulling the battery cable to get it to reboot. Evidently when this happens you must leave the battery disconnected long enough (about 5 minutes) for all the capacitors in the electronics to drain. Once restarted, the car drove normally but we did not shut it down for any reason for the rest of the day.

Lug nut studs fail frequently. Have replaced 3. An additional failure identified today during routine tire rotation. Safety issue as wheel can separate from vehicle while driving.

There is a significant crack in the inside rear panel of my panoramic sunroof, and no apparent or visible point of impact. The crack is spreading and needs to be replaced or I fear the glass will shatter. There is no evidence of the crack on the exterior, only on the interior. Car is out of warranty but only has 23K miles and is 4 years old. Took the car to the dealership, and they wanted to charge $4000 to fix. Contacted Subaru of America and they refused to fix. Have been on many Ascent/Subaru forums online and it appears there are multiple complaints about these cracks.

SERVICE BRAKES
13 complaints
The emergency brake occasionally comes on for no apparent reason. It has happened multiple times before but, never while driving until today. The button appeared to be stuck when I went to disengage it as well which made no sense. There was nothing in the way for it to get stuck. Upon further research in the Subaru forums it appears ours is not the only one to have experienced this. This leads me to believe there may be an unknown issue.
Aug 29, 2024
The car has issues with rapidly deteriorating brakes. The brakes have been replaced twice and I feel they are bad again. This puts myself, anyone in my car, and any car around me at risk. The dealer is aware of the issue. Car was last inspected with the same concerns in mid-April to which the dealership responded the brakes are "like new". No one else has inspected the vehicle including the police or insurance representative. There was no warning lights related to the issue. I could just feel the brakes grinding. They were first replaced one year after purchasing the vehicle on 4/28/21. They were replaced again on 6/23/22. They feel like they are grinding again.
May 09, 2023
The braking system on the vehicle does not operate as expected on the vehicle. As a result a vehicle that only has 40k miles on a daily driver, is on its 3 set of rotors, 2nd set of brake pads( i declined having them changed at the 40k service) and 2nd set of tires. The brakes have not functioned comparably to any other vehicle that I have driven. They grind and the vehicle shakes when stopping. The issue grows worse with the increase in speed. I spoke with the service manager at the dealership and he informed me that Subaru is aware of the issue and it is common for this vehicle. The service manager stated that the rotors and calipers for the vehicle are undersized for the curb weight and it is an ongoing issue with the vehicles. I have spent thousand on maintenance on a vehicle that is 2 years old, an unreasonable amount. On the service managers recommendation I reached out to Subaru about the issue and was given a $600.00 coupon and told there is nothing else they can do and my issue was reviewed at the "highest levels". As I drive the vehicle now, I feel that the braking system is inadequate and the vehicle does not handle in a safe manner. According to Subaru, my only recourse is to spent thousands of dollars each year I own the vehicle at their dealership changing brakes and rotors with every oil change. Unacceptable.
Apr 27, 2023
The brakes are insufficient for the weight of the vehicle. This has been recognized by the Dealer who sold the vehicle. Rotors warp quickly. Stopping power of the system is insufficient.
Apr 13, 2023
At around 18,000 miles when applying the brakes, the vehicle would shake and vibrate. By 20,000 miles the vibration was excessive affecting the ability to steer straight when braking. The dealer told me that they were aware of the issue with this year/model. Diagnosis, warped rotors. Dealer resurfaced rotors and replaced pads under warranty. Vehicle performed fine for a while. At around 36000 miles had the same issue, this time dealer indicated that there was a "fix to the issue", new rotors and pads were installed again covered by warranty. Vehicle performed fine for a while. At around 49,000 miles, the same braking issue, dealer replaced rotors and brakes, this time NO WARRANTY, $610 out of pocket to replace brakes for a know design defect.

Car is making loud noises while going over uneven roads. Only have 64,000 miles on it and I need to replace the struts.
Oct 27, 2025
The contact owns a 2020 Subaru Ascent. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, there was an abnormal rumbling sound coming from the undercarriage while driving over bumps in the roadway. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the front struts had failed and needed to be replaced. The contact related the failure to TSB: 059024. The vehicle was not diagnosed. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

Extreme rattle/clunking driving over bumps especially on dirt roads. Seems to be many people are having this issue. I know of another co worker who has a 2020 ascent making the same noise. Apparently there is a strut issue
Mar 12, 2025
Car has 49,700miles. Front drivers side makes terrible rattling noise when driving over any uneven pavement or bumps. Took it to the dealer to determine the issue. They said the entire strut assembly needs replacing. No warning lamps have ever come on related to this issue. I have no idea if the car is safe to drive. There is a national back order on the parts. The dealer wants $1344 to replace it. This is crazy to me. I've driven cars with LOTS more miles than this and have never needed a strut replaced.

I can’t say what caused the huge crack in the sunroof bc there is no chips on the outside and no chips or breaking point on the inside. We went to get in the car and open up the sunroof and it has a huge crack that is a known issue if you look it up online. So far we haven’t been able to get it fixed bc of the amount of money it cost to have it replaced and it can’t be done by anymore but the dealer as safelight won’t touch sunroofs. It appears that a weak glass was installed and that’s unfortunate too bc they have no intention on fixing this for us.

Driving at speed of 50+, the hood (both sides) wobble/raise up. Faster you drive it raises up further to the point it interferes with view. Concerned it will detach from hood struts and cause major damage
Jan 05, 2024
2020 Subaru Ascent Premium.. Rear lift gate at times will not open electronically, and sounds an “alarm” locking the mechanism which prevents it from being opened. The alarm and lockout does not stop until the battery is disconnected. The first time this occurred was at a Subaru Dealership, the second time was at a location where it was necessary for me to go home to my shop to get the battery disconnected.
Sep 17, 2022
The hood seems to malfunction in the following manner: When driving at or over 65mph or in high, gusty winds, the hood seems to "wobble" around excessively. It has not come loose, and I've had the dealer look at it and they say it is OK. As an experienced mechanical engineer, I am not confident that failure will not happen as I've never observed this kind of hood wobble on any other large vehicle I've driven.
Dec 29, 2021
WHILE DRIVING 50MPH THE HOOD IS VIBRATING AND FLEXING. WHEN BEING PASSED BY OTHER VEHICLES THE FLEXING AND VIBRATING BECOMES DISTURBING VIOLENT. AT THIS POINT I AM IN FEAR OF THE HOOD BECOMING UNSECURED AND LIFTING UP WHILE CRASHING INTO THE WINDSHIELD CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. IT APPEARS THAT THE HOOD'S SUBFRAME HAS BECOME DETACHED. I AM FEAR FOR MY SAFETY WHEN DRIVING THIS VEHICLE.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER

Reporting a serious incident with my 2020 Subaru Ascent at 21k miles. On October 16th, a burning plastic smell and white smoke from the floorboard forced an immediate stop; I had to call the fire department for safety. The vehicle's battery has been replaced thrice, and the radio system frequently resets. Despite a Subaru recall fix in February meant to prevent such issues, the problem persists, raising major safety concerns. With 20+ years in electrical engineering, I've noted consistent electrical issues with this car. I urgently request NHTSA intervention for an immediate and thorough investigation, holding Subaru accountable for ensuring vehicle safety.

Battery on 2020 Subaru Ascent with 4000 miles has drained in a short time ( a week) twice. Left my wife and I stranded in Utah mountains in winter. Found someone who jumped it for us. Thought it was a one time issue. Just occurred again after 9 days of not driving it. Had to call the Subaru assistance line to get help. Functioning again after the jump. We are in our 70"s and this issue could leave us or anyone else in a bad situation if help is not close by.

15000 MILES AND BATTERY COMPLETELY DEAD AND LEFT ME STRANDED. VEHICLE WAS PARKED OVERNIGHT AND WOULD NOT TURN ON. HAD TO GET TOWED TO DEALERSHIP
Apr 19, 2021
IN FEB MY CAR BATTERY WAS DEAD IN MORNING AFTER SITTING IN GARAGE TURNED OFF AND NO DOORS OR LIGHTS ON. I HAD IT JUMPED AND TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY TESTED BATTERY AND IT WAS FINE. THE SECOND TIME IT HAPPENED A WEEK LATER SAME SCENARIO I TOOK IT IN AND THEY TESTED BATTERY AND SAID IT WAS BAD BATTERY. SO THE DEALER REPLACED IT AND IT AND IT WAS FINE. THE THIRD TIME NOW TODAY IT HAS HAPPENED AGAIN EXCEPT THIS TIME MY CAR WAS BEEPING AT ME LIKE IF THE UNLOCK KEY FOB BUTTON HAD BEEN HIT BUT DOING IT EVERY FEW SECONDS. SO I WENT AND FOUND BOTH KEY FOBS AND THEY WEREN'T BEING DEPRESSED SO I TRIED TO UNLOCK DOOR MYSELF WITH KEY FOB AND NOTHING HAPPENED AND RED LIGHT ON FOB BLINKED EVERY TIME I TOUCHED IT BUT I WOULDN'T HEAR ANYTHING HAPPENING WITH CAR SO I TRIED TO CLICK TAILGATE BUTTON AND NOTHING HAPPENED. SO I THEN WENT TO TURN THE CAR ON AND REALIZED THE BATTERY WAS DEAD AGAIN. SO WE JUMPED IT AND LET IT RUN FOR TWENTY MINUTES AND DEALER WANTS US TO TAKE IT BACK BUT THEY ARE SAYING THEY HAVEN'T HEARD IF THIS ISSUE WHEN I SEARCH ONLINE IT SEEMS LIKE THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE. *TR

PURCHASED NEW 30 DEC 2019. OWNED 5+ WEEKS NO ISSUES - DROVE 07 FEB 2020 NO DRIVE-ABILITY ISSUES OR WARNING LIGHTS, PARKED AS USUAL IN HEATED GARAGE AT HOME. WENT TO START 08 FEB 2020, WHEN START BUTTON PUSHED, NO STARTING BUT ALL THE VEHICLE LIGHTS (INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR) FLASHED BRIGHTLY AND RAPIDLY (3-4 TIMES A SECOND) FOR ABOUT 30 SECONDS THEN ALL ELECTRICAL INOPERATIVE (NO LIGHTS ANYWHERE, NO HORN, NO STARLINK ACTIVATION... SUBARU ROAD ASSISTANCE CALLED & THEY SUMMONED ANDERSON TOWING (A LOCAL TOWING COMPANY); WHEN JUMPER CABLE ATTACHED TO BATTERY IMMEDIATELY ALL LIGHTS CAME ON BRIGHTLY AND A LOUD ELECTRICAL ARCING NOISE OCCURRED AND IT STARTED. IF THIS TOTAL ELECTRICAL FAILURE HAD HAPPENED DURING VEHICLE OPERATION IT COULD HAVE RESULT IN CATASTROPHIC INJURY AND DAMAGE. TOOK VEHICLE TO LOCAL SUBARU DEALERSHIP 10 FEB 2020 WHO CHECKED BATTERY AND COMPUTER TROUBLE CODES AND FOUND NOTHING UNUSUAL. HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE? IT WAS A TOTAL ELECTRICAL FAILURE - JUMPING THE VEHICLE REMINDED ME OF PARAMEDICS SUCCESSFULLY APPLYING AED PADDLES TO DEFIBRILLATE A STOPPED HEART. THIS SITUATION IS SIMILAR TO OTHER COMPLAINTS NOTED FOR THIS VEHICLE. THIS IS A POTENTIALLY VERY DANGEROUS ISSUE AND NEEDS AN IMMEDIATE REMEDY.

Unknown PCV valve failure caused catastrophic engine failure on interstate highway (70 mph speed limit). Luckily there was room to pull to the side and no one got hurt. This part was recalled in 2019 models due to possible loss of control from engine failure. Dealer tore down engine to determine cause for possible warranty coverage and found the PCV valve was the cause of engine failure. There were no warning lights or indications of any problems before this.

The battery died after two weeks of replacing it, later revealing the alternator failed. Parts are not available, Subaru kept them My safety was at risk because the lights on my dashboard Christmas Tree'd letting me know something was wrong. Within a couple of blocks I had no power steering and was dying on a busy street. The car was so dead that I couldn't even turn on my hazard lights. The car was jumped by Subaru, the tow truck driver left and the car died two blocks later. This time in the middle of the busy street. The vehicle was towed to Subaru who replaced the battery we bought two weeks earlier. We asked if they check the charging system and they said yes. The battery light was on before we left the lot. We made them keep the car so we wouldn't die in the middle of anymore busy streets. Days later they determined it was the alternator. The car had 26,000 miles on it. I don't know what Subaru did with the parts. They said they needed them as it was a warranty replacement. The battery light never came on before the car died. First the Eye Sight Disabled light came on then many lights on the dashboard flashed on. This happened a couple blocks prior to me losing power. I found the first place I could to get off the road. Two weeks prior when the battery died, the eyesight disabled light came on and the battery light. That time I got home and we replaced the battery. Therefore when the eyesight disabled light came on, I knew something was wrong but thought I had time to get out of the way. Then everything died. The worst part is that hazard lights didn't work.

I was almost in two accidents. Back on July 26,2021 I reported to the dealer that the car almost stalled twice, when I am coming to a yield or slowing down and then you accelerate The car has no power. You have to try to pull over before you get hit from behind. Then you step on the gas and it goes again (it does not completely stall) I did not know of any recall on the car but in the October issue of consumers reports it said they have a problem with the fuel pump It sounded like my same problem. I went back to the dealer on 10/14/2021 they went with me for a road test of course it did not happen. They said they cant do anything because my vin no. is not on recall. They can not find anything wrong with the car. Also, I feel the car hesitates when you step on the gas. They say no its normal. recall No 21v58700 7/28/2021 -- subaru recall no WRG-21

NHTSA Recall Number 21V587. Cracked fuel pump potential due to improper manufacture, resulting in stalling, vehicle not starting or other fuel pump failure-related issues. Stalling while driving could result in an accident. Subaru’s recall notification should begin in September. Our family will be driving from NC to Maine on August 27 and returning on September 15. We need to know if 1) our specific Subaru Ascent will be recalled and 2) if so, if we can get the fuel pump replaced on our 2020 Subaru Ascent before 28 August 28. Jack Bacheler

While driving the vehicle between 30 - 40 mph, the vehicle will intermittently studder. I have mentioned this issue multiple times to the dealership and they have attempted to fix the issue but the problem still continues. The issue is occurring more frequently and I’m concerned this may create additional engine/powertrain problems down the road.

EXTERIOR LIGHTING

The driver's side headlamp assembly (one complete piece, LED lighting) has a thin strip at the top that is used for daytime running lights. These are automatically on when the vehicle is on and it's not yet dark. In early 2024, this driver's side thin strip daytime running lights stopped working entirely. I've learned that the entire headlamp assembly must be replaced, rather than being able to just change out the daytime running component or replace a light bulb like one used to be able to do. I've taken the vehicle in for an estimate, and the Nashville, TN Subaru dealership quoted me about $1700 to replace the headlamp assembly, with nearly $1,000 of that being for the light itself, and the rest being labor. The technician at the Subaru dealership was aware of this problem, with many others coming into the shop for the same thing, and he advised complaining directly to Subaru. There are aftermarket options for $200 but the labor is still excessive. From researching online about how to find the aftermarket options, I've learned from a quick google search, lots of posts on Reddit and Facebook, among other forums, of other vehicle owners of this year and the years surrounding it that it is a very frequently-occurring problem, related to it being too close to something in the engine- and others reported that this has happened multiple times to their same vehicle! I called Subaru of America to complain and ask for a Good Will replacement, but they said they would not be able to assist me as I was beyond 3 years/50k miles, and that I would have to go with the Subaru of America option. Please look into this and find that this is a common problem and the remedy should not be stuck to the consumer, with such an exorbitant bill. Subaru should address this known problem and a recall should be made so that we may have this corrected/those who have had to pay for it can be compensated. Thank you!

When vehicle was 3.5-4 years old, the LED "halo" around the headlight assembly went out. This part is a fixed part of the assembly and unrepairable and requires the owner to replace the entire headlight assembly. An LED headlight should not be going out after only 3.5-4 years. I have noticed this is a common complaint on online forums for the Subaru Ascent. Normally, this would just be a cosmetic nuisance, but in states, such as Virginia where I live, that have annual vehicle safety inspections, the vehicle fails inspection if any part of the headlight does not work, regardless of its effect on the functioning of the actual headlight lamp to produce light when activated. Further, this is a dealer only part and repair and I was quoted $1,300 for an issue that has no effect on the headlight to illuminate the road and is cosmetic only. Subaru needs to address this faulty assembly.

The contact owns a 2020 Subaru Ascent. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the left turning signal and driver’s side daytime running light failed to illuminate as needed. No warning lights were illuminated. The contact also stated that he was given a ticket for the failure. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed that the turn signal and drive’s side headlight needed to be replaced; however, the parts for the repair were not available. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 40,000.

Right front camera is blocked by plastic since manufacture. The adaptive cruise control and forward emergency braking do not work reliably unless the object is the left visual field. My car will accelerate into a car in front with no emergency braking. No accident. so far, because I have been able to avoid accidents by braking myself. The problem was diagnosed by Diablo Subaru of Walnut Creek. The vehicle was inspected and diagnosed by a Subaru dealership. The car tells me it cannot see the car in front. It also says it cannot see anything on haphazard basis. But it will also accelerate toward cars in front of it at close range because it cannot see.

Since the day I bought this car anything that blows across the road causes the brakes to slam on....even at speed on the highway This is dangerous as hell. Additionally the eye sight disconnects intermittently for on reason or because of rain or a small bump in the road. You must stop and turn the car off and on to get a reset. I have had the vehicle inspected at 3 different Subaru dealerships and they all say nothing is wrong with either system. Now I have tried for 2 weeks to get a response from Subaru Customer Advocate with negative results.

CVT transmission skips in high gear and shudders randomly while driving down the road. Randy Marion in Hickory NC is where we purchased and replaced the rear transfer clutch and insists the problem has been corrected. It is not. Our regular mechanic and Moderna Subaru of Boone NC both agree the transmission is bad. It has been sitting at the dealership for 2 months while all parties argue over who is responsible for repair. (Original selling dealership, Subaru of America, 3rd party warranty) meanwhile I have no car but am expected to make payments. There are no warning lights or indicatator lamps to show an issue which is even more scary. I do not feel safe driving the vehicle without repair as the stutter and slipping between gears can cause hesitation that could cause an accident or worse. We did not test drive the vehicle at high gear and that was our mistake, but I drove it on a trip 2 days after purchasing and it had transmission issues the entire time. Dropped back off at dealership Monday morning and have been dealing with headaches since then.

DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD THE ENTIRE CAR STARTED VIBRATING AND FELT WOBBLY WHEN I GOT ABOVE 20MPH. PULLED OVER TO CHECK TIRES AND UNDER THE CAR, NO OBVIOUS ISSUES FOUND. TURNED OFF THEN BACK ON THE CAR, SAME ISSUE ABOVE 20MPH. THE CAR WAS STRUGGLING TO GET UP THE TOW RAMP AND SMELLED AN ACRID ODOR THAT BOTH I AND THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER NOTICED. MADE TERRIBLE SOUND WHEN SHIFTING FROM P THROUGH R TO D. THIS ALL HAPPENED ON PAVED ROADS GOING BACK HOME. THE CAR NOW HAS 150 MILES ON IT, BOUGHT IT 3 DAYS PRIOR NEW.

When the fan is on there is a strong smell of gasoline in the vehicle. This happens whether the vehicle is in motion OR is idling. The smell of gas fumes is very noticible if the fan for the heater/ac is pulling air from outside the vehicle. When the fan system is re-ciruclating the air from just the cabin, there is no smell. This is a very noticble smell and we have to drive with our windows open. My children are not able to be in this vehicle due to this smell. This is our family vehicle and daily driver. I have to drive this vehicle to work. This vehicle we have called about to multiple dealerships. They want to charge us over $300 dollars, but no one has ever heard of anything like this according to the dealers. The online forums say a completely different story. No warning lights or messages have happened. There has been no change to my gas mileage. We are current on all maintence. We have replaced the cabin and engine air filters, and we have replaced the gas cap to see if this would make a difference. It has not. There is no gas leak to the ground that is noticeable. But there is a faint gas smell in the engine area when the vehicle is running.

WE ARE ON OUR SECOND SUBARU ASCENT, FIRST ONE BOUGHT BACK FOR THE SAME ISSUE. UPON STARTING THE CAR, THE CABIN WILL FILL WITH A STRONG SMELL OF RAW FUEL (NOT EXHAUST). THE CAR WILL ALSO FILL WITH THE SMELL IF RUNNING WHILE PARKED, REMOTELY STARTED, ETC. THE SMELL IS ALSO NOTICEABLE WHEN TURNING OFF THE CAR AND ON THE OUTSIDE OF IT.

This car is having constant problems with the battery failing. It especially fails when we are going to any type of trip where packing the car is a process that takes time. The battery dies on us often and is unpredictable, leaving us stuck often. I bought this car because I want a RELIABLE car. At any moment we could be stuck somewhere with my kids. No warning comes on to prevent this from happening.

I was taking my kids to school. On the way, we stopped at an intersection. The car all the sudden stopped while it was in the Drive gear. The electric part of the car turned on but the engine didn’t. A police officer and a towing company came to the rescue to make sure our car didn’t get hit. However this was a quite scary process for our kids and myself. If could have happened in the middle of the intersection or on a highway and we could have been hit. The towing company couldn’t put the gear in the neutral and suggested an issue with TCM.They had to get a different towing track and took it to the dealer.

We purchased our 2020 Subaru Accent on 8/9/2020. On 6/9/2021, our family took a day trip to Petaluma and stopped at a park to let our toddlers play. When we returned to our vehicle in the parking lot, the ignition would not turn on the vehicle. AAA Roadside Assistance was called to the scene and the technician found no issues with the battery. He was able to get our car to start, but only by randomly placing the shift to Neutral, then turning on the ignition. We were advised to bring our vehicle in for repair, brining the car to the dealership of original purchase at Elk Grove Subaru. Following diagnostics, they stated there was an issue with the shifter, identifying "fluid leakage" and it was cleaned out. Although we have a new car warranty, they charged us for the labor out of the warranty, citing “customer at fault” claiming fluid leakage caused the issue from a spilled beverage. We do not recall any beverage being spilled in our vehicle near that area. On 7/21/21, the same issue for a second time with the ignition not turning on happened once again. My husband and I were stranded in summer heat with my 2 year old son, my 1 year old daughter, and I was 30 weeks pregnant at that time. A THIRD occurrence, same issues, on 8/14/21. Our car is barely a year old. Subaru replaced the entire shifter this time, and so far no recurring issues. I thought of safety concerns if this was to happen to someone else, perhaps stranded on a busy road susceptible to oncoming traffic, or a secluded area that would pose risk of serious safety issues, or perhaps worse. One occurrence is an isolated incident, however three or more points to a significant pattern and worth investigating for a recall of this part. We took to the internet to see if anyone has experienced the same issue with this make and model and we found one video of a couple with an identical experience with the ignition randomly stopping working to start the vehicle. https://youtu.be/g--VICP26hg

Since purchasing our 2020 Subaru Ascent, the transmission slips, resulting in a lengthy wait time until it revs to the next gear, and then there is a palpable "jolt" as the transmission appears to move into the next gear. In addition, when I press the gas pedal to accelerate, there is a definite hesitation before the car actually accelerates. Previously, we had brought the car in to the Subaru dealership for service regarding this issue, but Subaru indicated that there has not been a problem and they did not open the transmission to look at it. We are also concerned about transmission-related problems given the recent recall of the 2020 Subaru Ascent. We know this has a CVT transmission but in this case we know that this problem is not normal. (We have family members and friends with CVT transmissions.) We are bringing the 2020 Subaru Ascent in again this week, pointedly indicating these concerns with the transmission. Please advise.

Recently, we experienced another problem with our 2022 Subaru Ascent Limited. I am asking that this issue be diagnosed and corrected. On January 21, 2022, within about 15 seconds of starting the car, the engine shut off while still parked for no apparent reason. The car was able to be restarted, however the Multi-Function Display went blank, and the STARLINK Multimedia touchscreen displayed only the Starlink logo. I attempted a reset by depressing the “home” button, but nothing happened. Neither the radio nor any other features would function. The car was then driven several miles and shut off. Then, after restarting it, the normal touchscreen and Multi-Function Display operated correctly, including the radio. I remain concerned however that unless this issue is diagnosed and corrected, such a shutdown could occur again in the future, possibly when driving the car, which could result in a serious accident. We have had recent problems with this car involving its electrical system. The excessive battery drain caused by the power rear gate resulted in a dead battery, producing only 8 volts. (The car had to be jump-started on two separate occasions). Subaru Pacific replaced the PRG Module (per TSB 07-155-19R), and installed a new SOA821B600 Enhanced Flooded Battery (per SOA’s October 1, 2021 memorandum). We do not know how or if the recent unexpected engine shutdown was related to these events, but we expect that Subaru should be able to determine the cause of this failure and find a remedy.

MY WIFE AND I PURCHASED A NEW 2020 SUBARU ASCENT IN JANUARY THIS YEAR. FROM DAY ONE, THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN GENERATING AN EXCESSIVE AND POTENT FUEL SMELL IN THE ENGINE BAY THAT IS THEN PULLED INTO THE PASSENGER CABIN VIA THE HVAC SYSTEM WHILE RUNNING. THIS SMELL IS PREVALENT WHEN WALKING AROUND THE OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE WHILE IT IS RUNNING; IT IS ALSO NOTICEABLE AFTER PARKING (AND TURNING OFF) THE VEHICLE IN OUR GARAGE AS THE GARAGE FILLS WITH A RAW FUEL SMELL THAT TAKES SEVERAL HOURS TO DISSIPATE. WE ARE ABLE TO REPLICATE THIS ISSUE EVERY TIME WE DRIVE THE VEHICLE FOR MORE THAN 10 MINUTES IN ALL TYPES OF DRIVING CONDITIONS AND TRIP DURATIONS. OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE DOES NOT SEEM TO BE A FACTOR. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TAKEN INTO THE DEALERSHIP THREE TIMES SINCE PURCHASE. ON THE SECOND VISIT, THE DEALERSHIP TECH VERBALLY CONFIRMED THE FUEL SMELL UPON CHECK-IN AND OPTED TO RUN FULL DIAGNOSTICS ON THE CAR, EVEN TESTING THE FUEL PUMP/SYSTEM, BUT COULD NOT IDENTIFY THE SOURCE OF THE SMELL. THIS WAS EVENTUALLY ELEVATED INTO A SERVICE REQUEST INCIDENT/TICKET WITH SUBARU OF AMERICA. TWO SUBARU FIELD ENGINEERS VISITED THE VEHICLE, THE FIRST STATED THEY COULD NOT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM, BUT THE SECOND COULD REPLICATE THE PROBLEM BUT CLAIMED IT WAS A RUNNING ENGINE/BURNING PLASTIC SMELL AND WAS CONSIDERED NORMAL OPERATION. THE ENGINEER'S PROPOSED REMEDY WAS TO USE THE "RECIRCULATE AIR" BUTTON TO PREVENT OUTSIDE SMELLS FROM BEING DRAWN INTO THE CAR. > I AM CONFIDENT THIS IS A FUEL SMELL, NOT A TYPICAL HEATED ENGINE SMELL AS SUBARU CLAIMS. > WHEN DRAWN INTO THE VEHICLE, THE FUEL SMELL CAUSES LIGHTHEADEDNESS AND HEADACHES. > USING THE RECIRCULATE AIR BUTTON IS NOT A SOLUTION, IT IS A MITIGATION TACTIC, ESPECIALLY WHEN THAT SMELL IS CONTINUALLY GENERATED BY THE RUNNING VEHICLE. *TR

Pretty much from day 1, Ascent smells of gasoline in the cabin after parking the car either inside or outside, shade or shine, hot or cold, day or night, flat or not surface.. after having parked it. It doesn’t matter if it’s a quick trip or a long one, it can still happen after parking. Fumes come out of the vents up front. The concerning part is we have a toddler, which I suspect the NHTSA would have an issue breathing in hydrocarbons, let alone any passenger. It doesn’t happen all the time, but when it does it lasts a solid five minutes or so. Mentioned to Subaru at time of CVT recall, not even mentioned they checked it out on my paperwork. I even waited to say anything until our car was broken in and all possible lube/other off-gassing components to stabilize.

The driver front seat bottom frame has came loose and rocks back and forth when driving, especially during start and stops. It was serviced and the dealer stated the movement comes from the side rails of the seat and is referenced via bulletin 12-288-20 stating its a known issue and the frame has been redesigned for this issue. After research, this seems to occur with a number of Subaru models, but the defect has not been covered by Subaru. The movement causes concern if an accident were to occur and should be considered a manufactures defect with replacement being covered by Subaru.

Component- steering locks Safety risk - vehicle cannot be started. Therefore if in an area of risk - cannot start vehicle. This randomly happens pulling into parking spaces. It is repetitive. I’m older and alone, scary when it happens as you are stranded. And call to Subaru roadside only option was to tow the vehicle the vehicle to dealership. Online fix is to man handle the steering wheel and turn it in the direction of the tension. Pulling into a normal parking space should not create the tension necessary for the steering wheel to lock. I have been on Subaru ascent form us and this seems to be a common problem with this vehicle. Mine has been inspected for the last occurrence and was told battery issue. The other times there were no battery issues and dealerships cannot find issues. Warning light only lights up after steering wheel locks up and vehicle cannot be started. The safety risk for me is being stranded - and no way to prevent it or know when it might happen.

I have the Graco Turn2Me car seat installed rear facing on the driver's side of the middle row (captain's chairs) of my vehicle. The car seat is installed with the seat belt due to my daughter's weight (36 pounds, so we were not able to use the latch). The car seat has been adjusted to the appropriate recline based on the installation method and weight of my child. There is an appropriate amount of space between the back of the driver's seat and the car seat itself. The car seat was installed by a CPST, following all rules of installation as laid out by both my vehicle manual and the car seat installation guide (graco). The issue is that despite the perfect installation, over time (meaning a few trips), the base of the car seat becomes loose as the child gets in and out of the car seat. The car seat is then no longer securely installed in the car. This particular model rotates, so that the child can be easily loaded and harnessed into the car seat while facing outwards. While the seat is facing outwards, it also tips backwards, essentially lifting a majority of the base off of the base of the seat of the car. I have reinstalled this car seat several times following all guidelines, and despite an initially correct install, within a few trips the base becomes loose and the entire car seat is tilted. Based on a quick internet search, this is a very common problem with this make and model car seat, especially when installed using the seat belt, rear facing. I do not feel that it is at all safe for my child to be in this car seat and it should be recalled immediately by Graco. No parent should have to uninstall/reinstall a car seat in a car after a few trips because it is coming lose. Photos attached show how tilted the car seat has become in the car (despite initially being installed securely). For some reason I was unable to upload videos but can share those as well showing how loose the base has become despite a proper install.

I have encountered a series of persistent issues with the vehicle since its initial purchase, indicating fundamental deficiencies that warrant thorough consideration and resolution. Commencing with brake malfunctions at an exceptionally low mileage threshold, the recurrent necessity for brake replacements, despite being facilitated by the dealership on four separate occasions, underscores a notable deficiency in the vehicle's manufacturing or assembly process. Furthermore, the manufacturer's offer of $10,000 in exchange for signing a waiver relinquishing my right to file a claim is indicative of their acknowledgment of the vehicle's inherent flaws. Subsequent to this agreement, additional complications have arisen, including persistent window malfunctioning, electrical faults, exhaust system irregularities, and most notably, transmission failures, with repeated complaints culminating in a catastrophic breakdown witnessed by the dealership's service team. In light of these recurring issues, the manufacturer's proposition to repurchase the vehicle while crediting back the $10,000 initially offered and prorating mileage solely from the transmission repair fails to address the cumulative impact of the vehicle's deficiencies. It is inequitable to discount the mileage accrued during the earlier brake-related concerns, especially considering the ongoing nature of the vehicle's mechanical shortcomings. Arguably, the rescinding of the $10,000 offer necessitates a reevaluation of the waiver's validity, as its premise was contingent upon mitigating specific concerns, which have regrettably persisted. Moreover, the manufacturer's refusal to accommodate a reasonable request for mileage adjustment from the onset of the brake-related issues undermines the principles of fairness and consumer protection. Given the manufacturer's reluctance to engage in arbitration and their apparent disregard for addressing the comprehensive history of issues encountered.

On Friday evening, February 23, 2024 , I pulled onto my driveway and came to a complete stop before driving into the garage . I reached up and hit the garage door remote. When the door began to go up I took my foot off the brake. Instead of creeping up the driveway the car took off like a proverbial "bat out of hell" It was as if I had pushed the accelerator compltely down.to the floor board. The brakes had no effect. I smashed through the garage door,. The car jumped a six inch concrete step up, obliterated the garage cabinets and pushed the contents of the cabinets and garage wall into our family room. The car came to a rest just outside our family room. My son opened the door to the garage and yelled out to me "Are you okay" Because the engine was still racing he said "Get your foot off the accelerator' My reply was I DON'T HAVE MY FOOT N THE ACCELERATOR". I then tuned the ignition off and the ordeal was over.. It appears that the engine continued to recieve fuel irregardless of the position of the accelerator., the automatic braking system failed miserably and the the forward collision warning was malfunctioning. I am waiting for the insurance company to remove the car from the garage and do a structural assessment.. Because there may be serious structual damage I want the insurance company to remove the vehicle less the second floor collapses onto the garage. My son was on the couch just seconds before the wall "exploded". The couch was moved eight feet across the room. If a piece of debris came through the windsield I also might have been injured. The potential for serious injury to others in another set of ircumstances also scares me. The malfunction came without warning. The damages will be in the tens of thousands of dollars. I am blessed that no one was injured or killed.

The vehicle hesitates like it doesn’t want to get up to speed, despite pressing the gas pedal to accelerate. The RPM needle bounces. Dealership has not been able to “replicate the hesitation I feel when accelerating.” They originally tried to say I didn’t tell them the problem was happening when it had time to warm up, which is a lie, I have all the scheduling notes made by the employee who set the appointment up. Dealership said it passes diagnostic testing despite my serious concerns as the owner driving it daily. No lights are lit up on the dashboard which is another reason why the dealership is saying everything is fine. It’s already had a firmware update in July and the dealership is very dismissive of my concerns. I made multiple calls before appointment telling them it’s happening more frequently around 20-30 minutes of drive time and to make sure I have them the full picture well enough in advance for them to make adequate time to look at my vehicle

Very dangerous when trying to speed up to pass another vehicle because the vehicle doesn't respond and accelerate as it should. The dealer said its normal because of the CVT technology. They said they tried to reproduce it, but were only gone 5 minutes. The highway is 5 minutes away from dealership, one-way. I explained it happens after about 20 minutes of continously driving at speeds over 50 mph. The vehicle had only been inspected once for this issue. The dealer refuses to look at it again because they, "already explained it to [me]". There are no warnings or indicators prior to it happening.

The base for the infant car seat was installed by a car seat technician and the latch continued to come loose while driving. ( would move more than an inch) this car seat would look like it was never installed. When we contacted the manufacturer they stated they would need a receipt of purchase and a video of the car seat problem. And provided no advice on how to fix the problem.

We own a 2020 Subaru Ascent we purchased brand new. A few weeks ago we noticed a faint gasoline smell while at a red light. I thought it was a one time occurrence but it has been happening now every time the vehicle is at idle or stopped. I have read on Subaru owner forums about 2019 to 2021 models having this issue all the way from 2100 miles to almost 90,000 miles. Many customers have had to make multiple trips to the dealership to get charged diagnostic fees and many times they say they can’t smell the problem. I just recently contacted my dealership about this issue and found an old service recall about the low pressure fuel pump and was told to not believe everything I read online. This is the vehicle that my family uses and I’m not sure if this is safe for them to be in and is getting to sound eerily similar to when Ford had the CO problem in their explorer and people were crashing. For the amount I paid for this vehicle and all my service intervals at the dealership and many people having the same safety concern I hope this is investigated and I won’t have to pay for repairs.

Something in car drains battery frequently not while the vehicle is running but after it’s been off for a few hours when no lights have been left on, Subaru dealership refuses to admit there’s a problem. This leaves me exposed to being stuck in unsafe situations with a dead battery. No warnings ever come on to alert me the battery is draining. Transmission frequently slips and stutters when accelerating to higher speeds like when trying to transition onto the interstate. Subaru also denies this problem. They fixed the transmission clutch but that did not help.

My Subaru 2020 with 16,000 miles stalled in the middle of driving down the road in Town, I was driving 35 mph when out of nowhere the car stalled. I was able to coast/turn on to a side street. I’m lucky the car had enough momentum to keep going or we would have been hit by traffic as the street we were on is a busy road. The car flashed all the lights when it stalled and refused to crank over, it was low on gas so I called AAA and they brought 5 gallons of gasoline and filled it. The technician then tried to get the vehicle to start but it wouldn’t. Luckily he offered to tow it to my house for free. I have tried multiple times to get the vehicle to start and it wont. It cranks but doesn’t actually move. I don’t know what’s wrong and now I have to have it towed to the the local dealership. This is the second major issue that has happened. The first one was that the transmission failed and with my car having a branded title for being stolen/recovery. Subaru would not replace the transmission at 7,600 miles and I had to find a used one to replace it with. I now just got the recall letter and have messaged Subaru about it.

Recall ID 21V-955 affecting the drive chain. Vehicle is showing signs of this (vibrations while driving). My families safety, two toddlers ages 2 and 4 are at risk. I am not comfortable driving this vehicle and it is my only car. Dealership cannot do anything as there are no parts to fix it. I need an immediate fix which is not happening.

I’m very disappointed in the terms of the Subaru recall. Instead of just replacing the faulty transmission, they will only fix CVTs w/ evidence of problems. I reported transmission issues at my last service and was told to wait for the recall as they would charge me $175 if they couldn’t replicate the problem. So now I have to drive until at least May (probably longer with all the other recalled cars seeking appts) w/a faulty transmission that could cause an accident, while they figure out a remedy? Plus my 2020 Ascent will be out of warranty soon (6000 miles). So I’m stuck with paying to replace the trans, if these problems show up later? I’ve had so many problems w/ this car incl squealing brakes (my car was in the shop for a total of more than 4 weeks before they figured out how to fix this) and a hood that came close to Detaching at highway speed — I had to bring the NTHSA bulletins to the dealer to get them to admit these both were known problems that could be fixed. Please insist that Subaru do the right thing by just replacing the transmission NOW rather than waiting till May to figure out a remedy and exposing the owners of this problem-plagued car to further needless risk.

SERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE

When applying brakes to 2020 Subaru Ascent limited (10,325 miles) the car shudders. Being an aircraft mechanic for over 45 years I knew the brake rotors were warped. I Took car to Subaru of Kennesaw GA. 7-13-2021. They opened work order SuCS159697. They resurfaced the rotors on front brakes and installed new pads. My safety concern is if brake rotor originally installed are warping and now you are removing the width of the rotor making it thinner and more likely to heat and warp sooner. When i questioned the maintenance technican about this concern he stated this was Subaru policy to resurface. Extreme heat to brakes could cause brake failure.

I bought this car brand new from Subaru dealer in Sterling VA. Starting form first week we start having issues with certain parts. (steering, line assist, unexpected breaking, shaky/wobbly brakes, raw fuel smell in the cabin and around the car.) I took the car may times to dealer to get it serviced however every time I was sent back as they couldn't replicate the issue. In one instance, they found some errors on the front brakes and changed it. After that car still having issues with breaking noise and also shakiness when breaking during high speeds. One of my biggest concern is the raw fuel smell coming into the cabin during idle or low speeds. I have to use the internal air circulation to avoid to bring raw smell from engine to cabin. I also noticed raw smell is also noticeable if you park. front of the car, front passenger and driver sides also have that raw fuel smell. Dealer couldn't replicate the smell however I have some of my friends and family members noticed it without having expert knowledge on the issue. I am thinking, Subaru ascents turbo system might be causing the fuel smell. Either its dangerous for fumes in the cabin and/or it is fire hazard eventually. I also think break problems are due to wrong sizing of the break parts for the size of the car. You can easily feel breaks are having difficulty stopping car when going down hill over 50 miles hr... It starts wobbling. Per master tech in my Subaru dealer, this is normal Subaru Ascent behavior and there is nothing wrong. I don't believe that. Attaching all the documentation I have.

I WAS IN AN ACCIDENT 11/29 AT 9:45PM WHERE I HIT A COW. I WAS DRIVING 55 ON A STRAIGHT HIGHWAY THAT I'M VERY FAMILIAR WITH. THE COW WAS STANDING IN THE ENTIRE LANE OF TRAVEL AND I WAS ABLE TO VEER INTO THE OTHER LANE SLIGHTLY AND TOOK THE IMPACT ON THE RIGHT SIDE WHERE I DID NOT HAVE ANY PASSENGERS. THE SUBARU WAS TOTALED AND I'M NOW HAVING SEVERE WHIPLASH SYMPTOMS. I AM REPORTING THIS AS THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY AND EVERYONE WHO HAS SEEN THE VEHICLE SAYS THEY THINK THEY SHOULD HAVE. ADDITIONALLY, I DO NOT REMEMBER MY COLLISION ALERTS BEEPING NOR THE SUBARU BRAKING FOR ME WHICH HAVE WORKED IN THE PAST. I ONLY REMEMBER HITTING THE COW AND THEN BEING COMPLETELY STOPPED WHERE WE HAD THE IMPACT.

A CHIP IN THE WINDSHIELD CRACKED AND SPIDERED DOWN THE WHOLE WINDSHIELD. IT HAPPENED 2 WEEKS AFTER OWNING MY NEW CAR. I'M STILL UNSURE ON WHY IT CRACKED 🤦‍♀️ THERE ISN'T A CHIP MARK OR ANY START POINT. IT'S WORRIED HOW IT JUST STARTED CRACKING. AND SINCE IT'S OVER A 1,000 TO FIX IT. IT IS STILL CRACKED. AND ANYTHING THAT REQUIRES THE EYE NO LONGER WORKS. I LOVE MY CAR BUT HATE HOW NOTHING NEEDING THE EYE WORKS.

FOUND AROUND 1 INCH OF WATER SETTING UNDER DRIVER'S SEAT OF OUR 2020 SUBARU ASCENT TOURING, WITH ONLY 2500 MILES ON IT, AFTER THE CAR HAD BEEN SITTING FOR DAYS WITH RAIN STORMS. WIFE NOTICES A SLOSHING SOUND WHILE SHE DROVE IT 1 MILE AND BACK HOME. TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY KEPT IT, BUT COULDN'T INITIALLY FIND THE LEAK. THE VEHICLE HAD A COMPLAINT OF A WATER LEAK PRIOR, WITH NO DEALER ACTION. AFTER TWO WEEKS OF LOOKING, THE DEALER SAID IT WAS A MISSING OR POORLY INSTALLED GROMMET ON THE FIRE WALL AROUND THE MAIN WIRING HARNESS, WHICH ALLOWED WATER TO FLOW INTO THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT. THEY ARE ATTEMPTING TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE CARPET AND PUTTING IN A NEW WIRING HARNESS, WHICH WOULD INDICATE A POTENTIAL FOR MOLD AND ELECTRICAL ISSUES DUE TO POOR GROMMET INSTALLATION ON THE FIREWALL. IF THIS VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN SITTING OUTSIDE, THE ISSUE WOULDN'T OF BEEN FOUND FOR A LONG TIME, CAUSING MOLD AND POTENTIAL ELECTRICAL FIRES IN THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT. HOPEFULLY, THIS WILL SAVE LIVES AND KEEP PEOPLE HEALTHY, IF THEY CHECK THEIR FIREWALL GROMMETS FOR POOR INSTALLATION.

A LARGE CRACK SUDDENLY APPEARED ON THE WINDSHIELD OF MY 2020 ASCENT, AND EXPANDED RAPIDLY OVER THE COURSE OF A FEW HOURS. I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE NEW IN JANUARY 2020. SUBARU WILL NOT COVER THE WINDSHIELD UNDER WARRANTY. THE COST TO REPLACE THE WINDSHIELD AND RE-CALIBRATE THE EYESIGHT SENSORS IS OVER $1,000 THROUGH SAFELITE. I'M CONCERNED THAT HAVING AN OUTSIDE COMPANY RE-CALIBRATE THE SENSORS WILL VOID THE WARRANTY, AND THE DEALERSHIP COULD NOT PROVIDE ANY CLARIFICATION. MY DEALERSHIP CANNOT REPLACE THE WINDSHIELD (AS THEY'VE INDICATED THIS MUST BE DONE BY A THIRD PARTY), AND CANNOT RE-CALIBRATE THE SENSORS FOR OVER A WEEK. THERE IS NO REASON FOR MY WINDSHIELD TO HAVE SUCH A LARGE CRACK, AS THERE ARE NO CHIPS VISIBLE AND I DO NOT RECALL ANYTHING STRIKING MY WINDSHIELD RECENTLY. *TR
