It is a known issue with subarus of this year that the engine will stall at random intervals when stopping, weather at a stop sign or stop light, warm or cold, fast stops or regular stopping. There is no consistency to it, completely random. There are no warning lights that appear, I have not taken this car to the dealer because after purchasing it I cannot afford to take it to the dealer. I purchased this car used for my elderly parents and this is a disturbing problem that could get them hurt or killed. Why has this KNOWN issue not been recalled? there are multiple service bulletins reported to NHTSA addressing this issue but no recall?

The contact owns a 2010 Subaru Outback. The contact stated that on numerous occasions while driving at undisclosed speeds, the vehicle hesitated. No warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that while shifted in reverse, the vehicle inadvertently shifted into drive independently. The contact turned off and restart the vehicle. The contact then stated that he was able navigate the vehicle back onto the road. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the failure could not be duplicated. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that the warranty had expired but no further assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 196,000.

The car will die/stop working at stop signs and at abrupt stops. The problem has been confirmed by a Subaru dealer, and it is a known safety concern, as Subaru put out a safety bulletin but came up short in actually recalling the cars affected. It has been confirmed as a faulty torque converter by a dealership service department. There have been no warnings or messages prior to the problem happening. It is a HUGE safety concern, as the car will die at lights and busy intersections, causing traffic to stop abruptly. It is an accident waiting to happen!!! Because my vehicle is out of warranty, Subaru will not cover the cost of replacing this DANGEROUS system failure.

Recently, while driving home in traffic, with the car in drive while braking, my car stalled in the middle of the road. Since then, it has happened 4 times. Upon breaking while the car is in Drive, the car stalls and Check Engine Light, Battery, Engine Oil, Oil Temp, AWD, and Traction Control Warning Light come on. When I shift the car into Park, turn off the car, and restart, the lights go away and the car runs smoothly. This is a huge safety concern when the car fails while I am actively driving and has almost caused accidents. I took the car to the dealership and they said that it needs a new torque converter (see Subaru Service Bulletin 16-90-13R https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2018/MC-10140492-9999.pdf). This is a huge safety liability and this issue should be recalled as the car stalling in the middle of traffic is dangerous.

Outback started jerking forward with an increase in RPMs and noise from engine. Malfunction was very alarming and could result in a traffic accident...especially at higher speeds and in traffic. No warning lamps/messages indicated from vehicle. Took vehicle to Subaru dealership and rode with mechanic. Was told by dealership that a new CVT (transmission) is needed at a quoted cost of $9,000+ (with only 110k miles on the vehicle). Found that a warranty extension was offered by Subaru (2017 CVT Warranty Extension Bulletin Number 16-107-17R) for customer complaints about this issue but not a recall. Contacted Subaru of America. Subaru of America offered minimal assistance and would not honor the extended warranty due to just falling outside of extended warranty period (due to driving fewer-than-average miles per year).

Takata recall. The contact owns a 2010 Subaru Outback. The contact stated that he received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V007000 (Air Bags) however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. VIN tool showed no recall associated with the VIN. Consumer would like to cancel the investigation.

SUBARU WEBSITE STATES NO ACTIVE RECALL. HOWEVER, I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE AND HASSETT SUBARU ORDERED THE REPLACEMENT AIRBAG AND INFORMS ME THAT THE AIRBAG HAS BEEN DELIVERED. HASSETT SUBARU STATES THAT INSTALLING THE AIRBAG TAKES AN ENTIRE DAY, AND HASSETT SUBARU ONLY HAS ONE MECHANIC WHO IS TRAINED TO INSTALL THE NEW AIRBAG. HASSETT SUBARU HAS NOT YET INSTALL THE REPLACEMENT AIRBAG. I ORDERED IT ON FEBRUARY 9TH, AND HASSETT SUBARU WILL NOT PROVIDE ME AN APPOINTMENT UNTIL MARCH 19. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE.

This is not about my car, but instead many different cars. When a cars lights are set to it's parking lights or running lights position, often located on the turn signal stalk, at night it appears to the driver that their headlights are on, when in fact only the "parking lights are on in front. This is a problem, but not what I'm reporting. When in the parking light position (at night), it appears the headlights are on because there's some light out front AND the instrument cluster is lit up as well. Here's the defect in design, the brake lights are NOT on, completely dark at the rear of the vehicle, so drivers are driving on the highway thinking their headlights and brakes lights are on, when they're not. When the parking light position is active, it should include the brake lights. Can't imagine how many rear-enders are because of this design flaw. *The rotating light switch on turn signal stalks often get unknowingly rotated out of Auto or the headlight position when the turn signal is repeatedly used.

About three years ago; there was a recall for the headlights. Subaru did replace the headlights, but I have replaced the headlights two additional times since then. And I currently have a headlight out a marker light out. I also last year had all of my marker lights burn out.

I HAVE OWNED THIS VEHICLE FOR ABOUT 4 YEARS NOW AND HAVE HAD TO REPLACE MY HEADLIGHTS EVERY 2 TO 3 MONTHS.. SOMETHING IS DEFINITELY WRONG. MY HEADLIGHTS ALWAYS JUST GO OUT ESPECIALLY WHEN I'M DRIVING HOME MY HEADLIGHTS WILL JUST BURN OUT AND IT LEAVES ME TRYING TO NAVIGATE HOME IN THE DARK. WHEN I GO TO MY SUBARU DEALER THEY OFFER ME NO SOLUTION. I ASK IF THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH MY CAR THAT MAKES THIS HAPPEN AND THEY TELL ME NOTHING IS WRONG AND THEN CHARGE ME $60+ TO CHANGE THESE HEADLIGHT BULBS. THIS IS UNSAFE AND IT IS EXTREMELY COSTLY. ESPECIALLY SINCE THIS VEHICLE HAS TO BE PUT IN THE SHOP WHEN THE BULBS NEED TO BE CHANGED DUE TO THE WEIRD DESIGN THEY USED. THE DATE FOR THE INCIDENT HAPPENED IS ONLY THE MOST RECENT. THIS HAS HAPPENED EVERY 2 TO 3 MONTHS SINCE THE OWNERSHIP OF THE VEHICLE.

I HAVE HAD TO CHANGE BOTH PASSENGER AND DRIVER SIDE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS THREE TIMES WITHIN THE LAST THREE MONTHS. IT'S IS NOT THE LIGHTS THEMSELVES BUT THE VEHICLE. THIS IS COSTLY AS SO MUCH HAS TO BE REMOVED IN ORDER TO REPLACE THE LIGHTS. THIS IS GOING TO BE MY THIRD TIME REPLACING MY LIGHTS SINCE JANUARY.

THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED SEVERAL TIMES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 148,000.

STEERING

We experienced a steering failure which could have led to a very serious accident. Returning on a freeway after purchasing groceries we heard a kind of rattle rhat seemed to come from behind the hub of the steering wheel. We made it home but as we pulled into our driveway the steering failed completely. The steering wheel spun around like a pinwheel, no resistance whatsoever and absolutely no effect on the car’s steering. If this had happened on the freeway I hate to think what might have happened. The car had to be towed to the local Subaru dealer where it took 17 days to repair the vehicle. We were lucky. It could well have been a disaster.

THE STEERING HAS A SHAKE TO IT ON THE HIGHWAY SPEEDS OF 45 MPH AND UP . GETTING WORSE. I HAVE 125,000 IN IT, ITS IN GREAT SHAPE-CANT AFFORD ANOTHER CAR. NOW IT IS GETTING WORSE AND WHEN TURNING OFF THE HIGHWAY ON THE OFF RAMPS IT JERKS THE STEERING WHEEL FROM MY HANDS. ALMOST GONE OFF THE RAMP TWICE NOW.... BARE WHITE KNUCKLE DRIVING. NEW TIRES, BALANCED THREE TIMES, ROTORS TURNED, NEW BUSHINGS (WHICH WERE NOT NEEDED BUT SUGGESTED AS A FIX) ETC.... NO MECHANIC KNOWS WHAT IS HAPPENING. I AM GETTING SCARED TO DRIVE IT, BUT I LOVE THE CAR OVER ALL I JUST WANT AN ANSWER TO GT IT FIXED OR HAVE SUBARU TO FIND A FIX AND PUT OUT A RECALL SOON. NOW I SEE SO MANY OTHER PEOPLE HAVE THE SAME THING---PLEASE, PLEASE HELP.

On Saturday, August 9, 2025, my brakes failed at highway speed. My vehicle's stopping distance was severely increased, forcing me to perform an emergency swerve into the leftmost lane to avoid rear-ending a truck. The maneuver was extremely hazardous, as it occurred in a construction zone with concrete barriers and no shoulder, leaving no safe escape path and endangering myself and others. I confirmed the cause was a catastrophic failure of the four-way brake line union block due to severe corrosion. There were no warning lamps or symptoms prior to the incident; the failure was sudden and total. I found that this defect is difficult to spot during inspections because the part is hidden by a plastic panel. The failed union block and corroded lines were removed and are available for inspection upon request. My research shows this is a widespread issue and the exact failure mode covered by Subaru Recall WQK-47R for 2005-2009 models. This known safety defect persists in the 2010-2014 generation, which is not covered by the recall. Prohibitive dealer repair costs are forcing unsafe workarounds. This defect presents an unreasonable risk to public safety, and I urge the NHTSA to investigate.

Brake pedal went to the floor while applying the brake. Pulled car back up driveway and parked and noted almost zero ability to brake the car, pedal goes to floor when applying pressure to the pedal, almost zero ability to come to stop. Checked fluid - was still in reservoir but not at max. level (b/n max and min.). Checked under hood at and no signs of any leaks in engine compartment or on any lines in engine compartment (all good). Looked under car and no signs of leaking. Opened reservoir to top off to max. and by time I went into garage and came back with brake fluid the reservoir was empty, reexamined and found brake fluid leaking from a plastic cover on passenger side rear of car. Placed cover to soak up all fluid dripping/ streaming down to the ground. Called my local mechanic, and he indicated car may need to be towed to be serviced. In looking online, I have found many accounts of this issue with 2010 Subaru outback owners in northern areas where corrosion at the 4-way connector of the brakes lines causes immediate loss of braking and loss of all fluid. Not sure of cost, but I am thinking once it is examined the 4-way connector and all 4 brake lines may need to be replaced. This appears to be a widely known issue and for some reason this was never included or changed from 2005-2009 Subaru recalls to change for 2010 models, so I would like to know why this and the cost for repairs are not covered by Subaru as a RECALL. This could have caused a major accident and severe injury or death if traveling at speed on highway or in area needing hard braking to come to immediate stop. This is now the third major issue I have had in less than 12-months and 2nd from corrosion on my 2010 Subaru. Last summer my front frame had corrosion damage and required replacement. This brake issue with corrosion at the lines to the 4-way connector had recalls in earlier models, but why not in 2010 Subaru Outbacks? Very Unsafe and No Warning Light prior to brake loss !

I noticed my brake pedal suddenly sink to the floor, and I have to press the pedal all the way to the bottom to get a little bit of brake. Was able to make it back home. Upon inspection, I noticed brake fluid dripping from rear passenger side brake pipe, I took off a plastic cover that covers the brake line, and noticed heavy rust on a "Manifold" where two brake lines coming from front of the car and two lines going to two side of rear brakes. The brake line is leaking right from there. I feel sudden failure of this part can lead to fatal accident, luckily I was very close to home and on a local road when I experience this. And Subaru should 1. make it more easy for inspection. 2. notify the public. 3. get more rust proof measures, 4. get it fixed for the current owners. Thanks.

Complete brake failure due to leakage at 4 way b8rake line junction located above the gas tank on right side rear of vehicle. Known and reported issue due to rust and corrosion of brake lines in this UNPROTECTED area of vehicle. It has been a known problem on these 4th generation vehicles...no recall instituted. Wife and I lucky to be alive. Ridiculous that Subaru America has not been SUMMONED to conform to a NTHSA recall and make repairs on those vehicles affected. Absolutely NO indication failure was about to occur resulting in complete brake failure. Amazingly, this happened in such an area where I was able to roll to a stop and take action to transport the vehicle to my home where it is officially grounded in my garage. Condition was confirmed by a Subaru Master Technician.

The brake system failed when the brake lines burst at the four way connector on the right, rear side of the vehicle. There were no indicator lights lit on the dash until after losing all braking. Luckily I was traveling slowly and was able to roll to a stop safely. This is due to corrosion on the brake lines in the area of the four way connector. There is a small inspection door on the cover for this connector, so the issue is easily seen. This has been an issue for Subarus in the past with many recalls for this issue on similar models. Unfortunately the recalls end in 2009 for Outbacks while mine is a 2010. Obviously this issue has not been corrected by the manufacturer.

I see many many complaints about the head gasket material Subaru used was not compatible with the very fluid that is needed for the cars engine to not blow up.....coolant. Subaru knows the head gasket material is ruined by the coolant it needs but has left us consumers to deal with a very costly, devastating issue such as what I just want through and am still in the middle of a fight with dealer who sold me a car for 10995 and I had it 2 weeks....coolant blew everywhere had to fight with dealership to get them to tow it. I was yelled at, hung up on, calls not returned all while I have no car no way to work and as a [XXX] and a child to raise, I do not have options and live by a thread and paycheck to paycheck.....It should not be allowed that Subaru doesn't fix that since it is a manufacturing defect that they made it incompatible with the coolant it needs. All instrument and waning lights illuminated and the engine shut down while driving. Took to the Subaru dealer repair shop and the vehicle was diagnosed with a head gasket leak that caused oil to mix with the coolant. This is a low mileage vehicle, 67,597 miles, that has been maintained by Subaru certified mechanics.

FAILED HEAD GASKET. THIS SHOULD NOT HAVE FAILED AT AROUND 112K. THIS IS A 2.5 LITRE 4 CYLINDER ENGINE. ENGINE STARTED TO OVERHEAT. I BELIEVE THIS IS A RECURRING PROBLEM WITH THIS CAR.

WE BOUGHT A 2010 SUBARU OUTBACK WITH MANUAL TRANSMISSION IN JULY 2010. IT HAS STALLED TWICE (ONCE IN SEPTEMBER AND ONCE IN OCTOBER) WHILE DRIVING ABOUT 25 MPH WITH THE CLUTCH DEPRESSED AND MAKING A LEFTHAND TURN INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. IN BOTH INSTANCES OF STALLING, THERE WAS A SLIGHT INCLINE IN THE HILL. SINCE I WAS TURNING INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC THIS WAS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. THE CAR STARTED UP IMMEDIATELY AFTER I PULLED TO SIDE OF ROAD. I AM BRINGING IN THIS CAR FOR SERVICE THIS UPCOMING WEEK. THE SUBARU DEALER I JUST SPOKE WITH SAID THAT THEY HAVE HAD TO SERVICE MULTIPLE CARS WITH THIS STALLING ISSUE FOR THE 2010 MODEL. I HAVE A 2010 SUBARU OUTBACK PZEV 6-SP MANUAL. THE ENGINE WILL SOMETIMES STALL (4 TIMES AND COUNTING, IN THE PAST 4 MONTHS) WHEN THE CLUTCH IS DEPRESSED TO SLOW DOWN FOR A STOP SIGN OR LIGHT. ALSO AT TIMES THE ENGINE WILL STUMBLE WHEN THE CLUTCH IS DEPRESSED FOR UPSHIFTS (NUMEROUS TIMES OVER THE MONTHS). THE PROBLEM IS AGGRAVATED WHEN THE A/C IS ON. THIS STALL PROBLEM CAN HAPPEN AT ANY SPEED, MOST NOTABLY AT 70KPH IN 4TH GEAR - SHIFTING TO NEUTRAL WHILE APPROACHING A RED LIGHT. THE ORANGE AND RED DASH LIGHTS WILL COME ON, STEERING AND BRAKING BECOME HEAVY, THE A/C SHUTS OFF WHILE THE FAN CONTINUES TO RUN AND A RESTART WITH THE KEY IS NECESSARY. The contact owns a 2010 Subaru Outback. The contact stated that while coming to a complete stop, the vehicle inadvertently lost motive power. Additionally, the vehicle would make abnormal sounds and the gear shift indicator light would disappear from the instrument cluster. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, but the dealer could not duplicate the failure. The vehicle was taken to four independent mechanics. The last mechanic diagnosed that the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V297000 (Electrical System) however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The vehicle was not repaired and remained with the independent mechanic. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but informed the contact that there was no recall associated with the VIN. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.

THIS HAPPENED DURING THE SUMMER AND I STOPPED AT A REPAIR SHOP AND THEY RESET THE COMPUTER AND IT WORKED FINE UNTIL TODAY. I GOOGLED THIS PROBLEM AND SEEMS MANY OTHER SUBARU OWNERS ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. SEEMS DEALERS HAVE MANY EXPENSIVE REPAIRS BUT EVEN AFTER REPAIRS, OWNERS ARE STILL HAVING THE SAME PROBLEMS. I JUST RETURNED MY CARE TWICE FOR A RECALL ON THE AIRBAGS. THIS SEEMS TO BE A REOCCURRING PROBLEM WITH SUBARUS.

I BEGAN HEARING UNUSUAL SOUNDS WHEN DRIVING MY VEHICLE IN JUNE. IT WASN'T CONSISTENT. IT WOULD HAPPEN SOMETIMES WHEN I WOULD BRAKE, EXCEL, TURN, MOSTLY IN CITY TRAFFIC. I COULDN'T FIGURE IT OUT. IT CONTINUED TO BECOME MORE FREQUENT AND LOUDER. ON JULY 2ND, IT BECAME VERY BAD, ESPECIALLY WHEN I BACKED INTO MY DRIVEWAY. I WAS AFRAID TO DRIVE THE CAR ANYMORE. I WAS UNABLE TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT WITH THE SUBARU DEALERSHIP, WHICH I WAS TOLD WOULD BE 7-10 DAYS BEFORE THEY COULD EVEN LOOK AT IT, SO I TOOK IT ELSEWHERE. IT TURNED OUT TO BE MY SUB FRAME. I WAS TOLD THE CONDITION WAS VERY DANGEROUS. THE MECHANIC WAS FAMILIAR WITH THIS PROBLEM, HAVING JUST RECENTLY REPLACED THE SUB FRAME IN A 2011 SUBARU LEGACY. HE MENTIONED THE METAL THEY USE IS OF POOR QUALITY AND THEIR WELDS ARE NOT DONE WELL. MY VEHICLE ONLY HAD 102,000 MILES ON IT.

THE FRONT SUBFRAME RUSTED THROUGH, CAUSING LOUD SCRAPING NOISES WHEN TURNING. THIS CAR HAS ABOUT 92000 MILES ON IT AND IS LESS THAN TEN YEARS OLD. REPAIR SHOP DETERMINED THE CAR WAS UNDRIVEABLE AS THIS PART SUPPORTS THE ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION. REPAIR SHOP ALSO SAID THEY HAVE SEEN THIS FAILURE ON OTHER VEHICLES, SPECIFICALLY SUBARU AND MAZDA.

MY SUBARU OUTBACK SUNROOF HAS LEAKED SINCE THE VERY FIRST WINTER. TOXIC MOLD BUILT UP IN THE HEADLINER, ON THE SEATBELTS AND IN OTHER AREAS. MY WIFE WAS SO SICK AT ONE POINT SHE WAS COUGHING SO HARD SHE THREW UP IN OUR DRIVEWAY AFTER SHE GOT OUT OF THE CAR. SHE WAS SICK FOR YEARS AND WE DIDN'T KNOW WHAT IT WAS. A QUICK SEARCH ON THE INTERNET YIELDED OTHER SUBARU OWNERS WITH SUNROOF LEAKS AND I BELIEVE THAT IT IS RELATED TO THE DESIGN. TRIED TO OPEN DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR TO EXIT CAR AFTER PARKING. HANDLE MADE A SOMEWHAT DIFFERENT SOUND THAN USUAL, AND FAILED TO OPEN LATCH. LOCKING/UNLOCKING AND MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS TO OPERATE INSIDE DOOR HANDLE WERE UNSUCCESSFUL IN OPENING THE DOOR. WITH DIFFICULTY, I WAS ABLE TO MOVE INTO PASSENGER SIDE OF FRONT SEAT BY CLIMBING OVER THE CONSOLE AND WAS ABLE TO EXIT THE CARE. WHILE THIS WAS NOT AN EMERGENCY, HAD IT OCCURRED DURING AN EMERGENCY, THE DRIVER LIKELY WOULD HAVE BEEN TRAPPED FOR SEVERAL MINUTES. I TOOK IT IN FOR A REPAIR TODAY, AND SUBARU DEALER CAN'T GET THE PART (CABLE RUNNING BETWEEN INSIDE DOOR HANDLE AND LATCH) FOR 3-4 DAYS. TOLD IT WAS NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY. Engine subframe catastrophic failure (left side) due to severe corrosion. Lower control arm detached resulting in erratic handling and pulling. Car unsafe to drive and expensive to repair at ~$2200. Did research and found to be a very common complaint for 2010-2014. Recall needs to be issued to replace corroded subframes.

The contact owns a 2010 Subaru Outback. The contact stated that while his daughter was reversing out of the driveway, the vehicle was making an abnormal clicking sound. The contact's daughter was able to continue driving; however, the suspension was not stable. The contact and his wife test drove the vehicle and noticed that the suspension was unstable. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the front subframe was severely corroded. The dealer diagnosed that the subframe, bushings, and the rear toe links needed to be replaced; and an alignment needed to be performed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a case was opened. The failure mileage was approximately 114,000.

THIS 2010 SUBARU OUTBACK HAS ONLY 69000 MILES ON IT AND IT HAS SEVERAL RUSTED ROT SPOTS ON THE SUB FRAME, THE AXLES AND OTHER FRONT END COMPONENTS ALSO HAVE LAYERS OF RUST SUGGESTING THE STABILITY OF THOSE PARTS IS ALSO COMPROMISED. IT IS DISAPPOINTING THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED TO THIS VEHICLE WITH SO FEW MILES ON THE ODOMETER.

Vehicle has an automatic transmission and it stalls when stopping. There is no warning light on the dash. This happens more frequently when the vehicle is warm, in early operation it may only hesitate or run rough while stopping. A warm a stop is more likely to stall the vehicle than a slow stop. Hard braking at operating temperature will stall the vehicle without fail. This has been happening since I bought it and it occurs with each drive every day.

OCCASIONALLY THE 2.5 L ENGINE WITH CVT WILL APPEAR TO ALMOST STALL UPON DECELERATING AND COMING TO A STOP (AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT, STOP SIGN, ETC.). THE ENGINE WILL SHUDDER, THE RPMS WILL DROP BELOW 700 AND THEN QUICKLY RETURN TO NORMAL IDLE (ABOUT 800 OR SO). HAVE NOT YET EXPERIENCED A STALL BUT HAVE COME CLOSE. OUR CAR HAS ABOUT 87000 MILES AND IS OTHERWISE IN GOOD CONDITION. OUR MECHANIC HAS BEEN UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM BECAUSE THIS IS AN INTERMITTENT ISSUE, IT CANNOT BE DUPLICATED AND THERE ARE NO CODES. OTHER SIMILAR POSTS HAVE INDICATED THAT THE TORQUE CONVERTOR MAY BE THE CULPRIT. CONSIDERING THE QUANTITY OF POSTS, AN INVESTIGATION SHOULD BE UNDERTAKEN. STALLING CAN BE A SAFETY PROBLEM.

THERE WERE NO CARS IN FRONT OF US OR BEHIND US AND THE NEAREST OVERPASS WAS SEVERAL THOUSAND FEET AHEAD OF US. WE WERE NOT IN A FALLING ROCK AREA. SUDDENLY, THERE WAS A VERY LOUD POPPING SOUND. IMMEDIATELY, THERE WAS A LOUD WOOSHING SOUND OF AIR AND WHAT SOUNDED LIKE GRAVEL ON THE CAR'S ROOF. I DECELERATED AND MY TWO PASSENGERS LOOKED AROUND TO SEE IF SOMETHING HAD FALLEN OFF THE CAR AND WAS BEHIND US. WE SAW NOTHING IN THE ROADWAY BEHIND US. I SLOWLY SLID OPEN THE VISOR PANEL FOR THE SUNROOF AND SAW THE GLASS HAD SHATTERED. I PULLED OVER AND TOOK PHOTOS OF THE DAMAGE. STARTING FROM 1,700 MILES, THIS CAR STARTED DEVELOPING THE VIBRATION ON THE STEERING WHEEL. THIS VIBRATION/SHIMMY IS MORE PRONOUNCED ON HIGHWAY (>70MPH) BUT NOTICEABLE IN OTHER SPEEDS. I HAVE OWNED A COUPLE OF VEHICLES AND THIS KIND OF SHIMMY/VIBRATION HAS NEVER HAPPENED ON ANY CARS THAT I OWNED/DROVE. I AM 100% SURE IT IS NOT NORMAL ROAD FEEL AND IT DIDN'T HAPPEN DURING THE FIRST 1,700 MILES. ALSO, THE CAR DOESN'T TRACK STRAIGHT AND DRIFTS ON HIGHWAY. TWO ALIGNMENTS, TIRE BALANCING AND ROTATION HAVE BEEN DONE BUT THE VIBRATION AND DRIFTING PERSIST. I DEFINITELY CONSIDER THE STEERING WHEEL VIBRATION AND DRIFTING A SAFETY ISSUE SINCE IT TOTALLY ISOLATED THE ROAD FEEL ON HIGHWAY. ALSO, I JUST CAN'T SEEM TO HAVE A CONFIDENT CONTROL ON THE CAR DURING HIGHWAY DRIVING. THE 2010 SUBARU OUTBACK EXHIBITS EXTREMELY POOR HANDLING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. WHEN TRAVELING AT NORMAL HIGHWAY SPEED, THE STEERING WHEEL VIBRATES, AND THE CAR FEELS LIKE IT'S AT ITS LIMIT. THE CAR ALSO TRACKS VERY POORLY WANTING TO WANDER TOWARDS THE SHOULDER, AND IS SEVERELY JOSTLED AROUND IN CROSSWINDS. AT APPROXIMATELY 6:35 A.M. CST I STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT. I PURCHASED A SUBARU OUTBACK 2.5I PREMIUM (MANUAL TRANSMISSION) ON 03/15/2010 AND NOTICED MODERATE TO SEVERE STEERING WHEEL AND FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE WHEEL VIBRATION ABOVE 40MPH ON THE SECOND DAY. I SUBSEQUENTLY CHECKED TIRE PRESSURE ON ALL FOUR TIRES, GAVE THE CAR SOME TIME TO "BREAK IN", AND TESTED VARIOUS ROAD CONDITIONS AND SPEEDS TO DETERMINE IF THE PROBLEM IS MORE PRONOUNCED UNDER CERTAIN CONDITIONS. THE VIBRATION CAN BE FELT AT SPEEDS ABOVE 50MPH ON THE FRONT DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE FLOORS, SEATS, AND IN THE STEERING WHEEL, WITH THE INTENSITY INCREASING WITH SPEED, REGARDLESS OF ROAD SMOOTHNESS. AFTER THE CAR DIDN'T SELF-CORRECT, I SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT AT THE DEALERSHIP FOR 04/26/2010 TO DO AN INITIAL/ROUTINE CHECK OF THE CAR. THEY REBALANCED ALL FOUR TIRES AND SAID THAT SHOULD FIX IT, BUT ASKED THAT I ADVISE ANY FUTURE ISSUES. THERE IS AN CONTINUOUS VIBRATION AND SHIMMY IN THE FRONT-END AND STEERING WHEEL OF MY 2010 SUBARU OUTBACK THAT SINCE NEW (OCT 2009) HAS NOT BEEN ABLE TO BE RECTIFIED BY SUBARU MECHANICS, EVEN WITH COOPERATION BY SUBARU OF AMERICA. THIS VIBRATION CAN SOMETIMES BE DRAMATIC THROUGH THE STEERING WHEEL AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, AND CAUSES ERRATIC DRIVABILITY, ESPECIALLY IN ADVERSE CONDITIONS. THIS VIBRATION MAY ALSO CAUSE PREMATURE WEAR ON FRONT TIRES, STEERING AND SUSPENSION COMPONENTS THAT COULD LEAD TO FAILURE AND INJURY, ESPECIALLY AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. MANY OTHER OWNERS REPORTED SUBARU OF AMERICA REPLACING WHAT WERE CONSIDERED "DEFECTIVE" CONTINENTAL TIRES, WITH ANOTHER SET OF EXACT TIRES FROM CONTINENTAL. The contact owns a 2010 Subaru Outback. The contact stated while driving at 5 MPH, the brake pedal was depressed and failed to respond. The brake warning light was illuminated. The contact attempted to contact the manufacturer and was informed that the vehicle would not be covered under a recall. The vehicle was then taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed the vehicle with catastrophic brake line failure due to corrosion. The vehicle was repaired. The dealer was not made aware of the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.

THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONSUMER THE BRAKE COMPONENTS HAD A CONSIDERABLE AMOUNT OF RUST AS WELL AS BEING WORN OUT. THE CONSUMER BELIEVED THE REAR BRAKE DESIGN WAS TOO SMALL FOR THE VEHICLE. HE SUSPECTED THE NEWER VERSIONS OF THE OUTBACK'S HAD A MORE HEAVY-DUTY REAR BRAKE DESIGN THAN HIS VEHICLE. My daughter was concerned with the car making strange squeaking sounds on turning and braking and so I met her where her car was parked in a lot and drove it for less than 1 minute and could tell something was very wrong and that it didn't seem safe to drive home. My husband came to check as well and zeroed in on the problem being the front driver's side tire/suspension. Fortunately the Subaru dealership was less than .5 away and my husband drove it there (with flashers on). It was determined by the dealership that the subframe had rusted through (we have photos uploaded below) and a new one was ordered and replaced within the week. The materials and labor for that alone cost $1944.37. Control arm bushings, rear toe arms, and alignment were also completed. The total cost of the repair was $3281.14.

Subframe or cradle Subaru OEM # 50527AJ01A is a vital safety component (see dealer's written comments below) and as designed and installed completely supports the weight of the engine and transmission - rust and corrosion per mechanics at 3 different garages (Mickey's, Weber, Ganley Subaru) advised vehicle is unsafe to drive due to subframe corrosion and imminent failure. Corrosion of sub frame and its welds are very extreme for low mileage 102,000 Quoting Ganley Subaru dealer in North Olmsted, Ohio in writing (vehicle originally purchase there by me the current owner): "A damaged sub frame puts everyone in the vehicle at risk. During a collision the subframe is responsible for absorbing and evenly distributing the forces from impact. If damaged the sub frame cannot distribute the impact causing a complete collapse of the vehicle." I called Subaru customer service/advocacy department on October 22, 2021 and was told there were no recalls or warranty on this part and I would bear the complete cost of repair and replacement almost $5,000.00 for subframe and steering rack and pinion. I have pictures and video's I also have requested the dealer return the subframe to me after repair and replacement. Picture attached is just one small length of the subframe the entire length of which on both the driver and passenger sides and on both sides of the frame show complete failure due to corrosion

THEY INSPECTED AND SAID IT WAS A CARBON BUILD UP IN THE PISTONS THAT WOULD CAUSE THIS ISSUE. THERE HASN'T BEEN ANY RECALLS OR SUBARU NOTICES ABOUT THIS. NOW WHILE DRIVING AND COMING TO A STOP THE CAR JUST TURNS OFF. ON YOUR SITE NHSTA SOME OTHER CUSTOMERS HAVE BEEN SAYING THAT IT COULD ALSO BE A BAD TORQUE CONVERTER. ON APPROXIMATELY 04/13/2014 APPROXIMATELY AT 6:00 PM ET, MY SUBURU OUTBACK 2010 RAPIDLY ACCELERATED WHEN MY FOOT WAS CENTERED ON THE BRAKE PETAL AND I MOVED THE GEAR FROM NEUTRAL TO DRIVE. THE VEHICLE LURCHED FORWARD, ENGINE HIGHLY REVVED. I PUSHED HARD AS POSSIBLE ON THE BRAKE AND SHOVED THE GEAR BACK INTO NEUTRAL. THE ENGINE WAS RACING AND I SWITCHED OFF THE POWER. I POWERED BACK UP AND THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE, GAS MILEAGE CALCULATOR, ETC. WAS OUT. THE AC/HEAT TEMPERATURE AND CONTROL SCREEN WAS OUT. THE FAN CONTROL ONLY WOULD WORK AND PUT OUT EXTREME HEAT. THE OUTSIDE MIRROR MOTORS WOULD NOT WORK. FOR THE NEXT 30 MINUTES ON THE WAY HOME I STOPPED SEVERAL TIMES AND EXPERIENCED THE SAME ELECTRICAL CONDITIONS UPON RESTART. SUBARU OUTBACK STEERING WHEEL SHIMMY AND VIBRATION. I PURCHASED MY 2010 SUBARU OUTBACK NEW IN OCTOBER OF 2010. AFTER DRIVING THE VEHICLE HOME AND SPENDING A FEW MILES GETTING USED TO THE FEEL AND SENSATION OF A NEW CAR, I NOTICED THAT THE RIDE OF THE CAR WAS SOMEWHAT UNSETTLED, VIBRATING AND SHAKING AT HIGHWAY SPEED. I INITIALLY ATTRIBUTED THIS TO THE NEW TIRES AND SLIGHTLY OVERLY INFLATED TIRE PRESSURE. I PRECISELY ADJUSTED THE TIRE PRESSURE AND SPENT THE NEXT FEW MONTHS WAITING FOR THE TIRES TO "SETTLE IN" AND SMOOTH OUT. MY WIFE STARTED DRIVING THE CAR REGULARLY AND DID NOT MENTION ANY ISSUE ABOUT THE RIDE. I DROVE THE CAR SEVERAL TIMES AFTERWARDS AND ON EACH TRIP FOUND THE CAR VERY VERY UNCOMFORTABLE TO DRIVE. THINKING THAT THE CAUSE OF THE SHAKING WAS THE OEM TIRES, I REMOVED THE CONTI CONTISPORT TIRES AND REPLACED THEM WITH MICHELIN DEFENDER XT'S FROM COSTCO. ALMOST IMMEDIATELY, I NOTICED THAT THE TIRES WERE NO SMOOTHER THAN THE OEM'S. I HAD COSTCO REMOVE AND REBALANCE THE TIRES. THE STEERING WHEEL SHAKE AND VIBRATION REMAINED EVEN AFTER THE REBALANCE. I BOUGHT MY OUTBACK IN MARCH 2010. WITHIN THE FIRST WEEK AS I WAS SLOWING MAKE A RIGHT TURN INTO A PARKING LOT FROM THE STREET I ENGAGED THE CLUTCH TO SHIFT FROM 3RD GEAR TO SECOND AND THE CAR DIED AND I HAD NO POWER STEERING OR POWER BRAKES. I DIDN'T USE THE AIR CONDITIONER ALL THE TIME. TWO TIMES THE FOLLOWING WEEK THE SAME THING OCCURRED AGAIN, BOTH TIMES SLOWING DOWN AND ENGAGING THE CLUTCH AND DOWN SHIFTING. I TOOK THE VEHICLE IN TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT ON 6/2/10 AND THEY TESTED ALL THE SENSORS AND CHECKED IT ON THEIR COMPUTER AND THEY FOUND NO PROBLEMS AND ASKED THAT I KEEP A LOG OF EACH TIME IT HAPPENS AND IF I NOTICE ANY PATTERNS. I NOTICED THAT THE MAJORITY OF TIMES AS I WOULD ENGAGE THE CLUTCH TO DOWN SHIFT THE TACK WOULD DROP AND THE CAR WOULD SHUTTER AND THE TACK CAME BACK UP. THE TIMES WHEN THE TACK DROPPED AND THEN DIED IT DID NOT SHUTTER. THE PROBLEM ONLY HAPPENS WHEN THE AIR CONDITIONER IS ON. I THEN HAD A NEAR COLLISION SHIFTING FROM 4TH TO 3RD IN A BUSY T-INTERSECTION AND CALLED SERVICE THE NEXT MORNING, 6/10/10 AND SCHEDULED TO TAKE THE CAR IN ON 6/14/10 AND DID NOT USE THE AIR CONDITIONER AT ALL. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT DUPLICATED THE PROBLEM AND HAD A SUBARU ENGINEER LOOK AT IT. THEY ERASED THE CAR'S MEMORY AND WILL HAVE A PROGRAM WRITTEN TO HOPEFULLY FIX THE PROBLEM. SINCE THE PROGRAM WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE FOR A LONG TIME THEY ARE GIVING ME THE CAR BACK TO DRIVE AND BELIEVE THAT SINCE THEY ERASED THE CAR'S MEMORY THAT MAY FIX THE PROBLEM. I PURCHASED A 2010 SUBARU OUTBACK 2.5I WITH A 6 SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION ON MAY 2010. While driving at highway speed the tire separated at the seam of the sidewall and tread. Tire tread depth was between 9–9.5/32nd on the tire. 225/60 r17 tire. Because of the complete separation of the tire and how sudden the separation occurred, it caused the vehicle to lose control, thankfully the driver was able to get control of the vehicle and get it start safely. The safety of all occupants and vehicles on the roadway were put at risk. Tire was taken to the retailer (car dealership), retailer and consumer contacted the manufacturer who stated this is not a manufacture defect.

Total engine failure at just 75k miles. Barely driven, maintenance schedule always kept up to date, out of nowhere engine stopped and I was told the oil was completely empty. They were unable to resolve by adding oil. Also, transmission light has been on for 3+ years. Have been told by every repair shop who has checked this that it’s just a glitch in the electrical system and the transmission is fine. A few weeks prior to engine failure, the car began to have trouble accelerating and made a sort of “race car” sound. Barely could go past 40 mph without slamming on gas. Finally, doors have randomly decided to stop locking and unlocking while using key fob. Batteries have been replaced. Some doors work, some do not (namely, the driver side door). Other misc electrical issues like USB failure.

I BOUGHT MY FIRST SUBARU IN 2002. I LOVE IT, A WEEK AFTER I BOUGHT IT I WENT TO CALIFORNIA FROM ST. LOUIS, MO. I DECIDED I WANTED ANOTHER ONE BECAUSE I LOVE SUBARU'S. IT TOOK ME A FEW WEEKS TO FIND THE ONE I WANTED. IT WAS A USED 2010 WITH 84,940 MILES WITH ONE OWNER. NONE SMOKER WHICH I REALLY LOVED. HE TOOK VERY GOOD CARE OF IT. HE TOOK IT IN FOR ALL THE REQUIREMENTS THAT SUBARU HAS. I HAD CAR FAX PRINT OUT SO I KNOW WHAT WAS DONE. NO COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE STALLING WHEN YOU STEPPED ON THE BRAKES. IT WAS ABOUT A WEEK INTO MY OWNERSHIP THAT I NOTICED WHEN I STOPPED THE CAR WOULD START TO VIBRATE AND THEN DIE. THIS IS VERY SCARY BECAUSE THE PERSON BEHIND YOU STARTS HONKING AND I MUST PUT IT INTO PARK AND RESTART IT. THE LIGHTS ON THE DASH START FLASHING WHILE IT IS DYING, A LIGHT GOES ON THAT LOOKS LIKE A CAR SKIDDING. WHEN I START TO FEEL, IT TRYING TO DIE I TAP ON THE BRAKES A FEW TIMES AND MOST OF THE TIME IT WILL KEEP RUNNING. IT IS THE TIMES WHEN IT DIES AND I CAN'T GET IT STARTED FAST ENOUGH CAN BE DANGERS' BECAUSE SOMEONE IS DRIVING FAST BEHIND ME. THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME MORE THAN I WANT IT TO. WHEN I GO TO CHURCH THAT IS 10 MILES AWAY IT SEEMS TO STOP A LOT AT THE LIGHT. I JUST WANT SUBARU TO FIX THE PROBLEM BECAUSE THEY HAVE KNOWN ABOUT THIS PROBLEM SINCE 2010. I HAVE FOUND SO MANY COMPLAINTS ON ANOTHER SITE, I COPIED THEM AND WILL BE TAKING THEM TO MY SERVICE MAN AND SENDING A LETTER TO THE HQ. I JUST DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO. WHEN I HAD MY CAR IN FOR THE 90,000-MILE WORK DONE I TOLD THEM AGAIN. THEY TOLD ME WHEN I PICKED UP THE SUBARU IT WOULD COST ME $1,700.00 TO FIX IT. NO SUBARU NEEDS TO FIX IT SINCE IT HAS BEEN A PROBLEM SINCE DAY ONE. SO MANY OTHER COMPLAINTS HAVE BEEN PRINTED. SOMEONE EVEN SENT AND TALKED TO HQ BUT NO RECALL HAS HAPPENED. SO, I'M ANGRY THAT THEY HAVE DONE NOTHING TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 SUBARU OUTBACK. WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, THE PARKING BRAKE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND FLASHED. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE PARKING BRAKE ACTUATOR WAS FAULTY. AFTER LEAVING THE DEALER, THE PARKING BRAKE ENGAGED INADVERTENTLY WHILE DRIVING 5 MPH. THE FAILURE CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO COME TO A STOP. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20,000.

WAS DRIVING ON WHAT APPEARED TO BE A CLEAR, CLEAN ROAD AT ABOUT 8 AM THE DAY AFTER A SNOWSTORM. MY CAR STARTED SKIDDING OFF TO THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY, WHEN TRYING TO TURN WHEEL TOWARDS THE LEFT TO STRAIGHTEN THE CAR OUT, THE CAR THEN STARTED SPINNING AROUND 360 DEGREES A FEW TIMES UNTIL THE CAR THEN ROLLED OVER TO THE LEFT DOWN THE 100 FOOT DITCH ABOUT 3 OR 4 ROLLS BEFORE STOPPING. THE DRIVERS SIDE AIRBAG NEVER DEPLOYED DESPITE SEVERE FRONTAL AND SIDE DAMAGE. THE CAR WAS TOTALED BY THE INSURANCE COMPANY. I STILL HAVE NO EXPLANATION AS TO WHY THIS ALL HAPPENED. IN SEARCHING THE INTERNET FOR ANSWERS, I FOUND 2 RECALLS ONE DATED 6/24/2010 WHICH COULD INVOLVE THE AIRBAG, AND ONE DATED 5/11/2010 WHICH INVOLVED THE CVT COOLER HOSE LEADING TO A CRASH. CONTIPRO CONTACT 225/60R17 TIRES WERE MOUNTED AS REPLACEMENTS 11/17/13. TIRES WERE ROTATED AND MAINTAINED BY DEALER ON A REGULAR BASIS. PRIMARILY HIGHWAY/CITY DRIVING. I HAVE NOT HIT ANY FOD OR POTHOLES - THERE HAS BEEN NO UNUSUAL TRAUMA TO THE TIRES. AFTER 13 MONTHS, 18K MILES, THE LEFT FRONT TIRE'S INNER SIDEWALL SUFFERED A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE. CONTINENTAL REFUSED TO PRO-RATE OR MAKE ANY ADJUSTMENT FOR THE PREMATURE DEMISE OF THIS TIRE. BECAUSE THE CAR IS AWD, I WAS FORCED TO PURCHASE 4 NEW TIRES. I BELIEVE THERE IS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT IN THIS BRAND/MODEL OF TIRE. LUCKILY, I WAS ONLY DRIVING 25 MPH WHEN THE TIRE FAILED. I HAVE NOW RESEARCHED AND DISCOVERED THAT THERE ARE MULTIPLE REPORTS OF THIS TYPE OF TIRE FAILURE FOR CONTIPRO CONTACT 225/60R17. ONE REPORT INDICATES THAT CONTINENTAL REPLACED THE TIRE UNDER WARRANTY AT 18 MOS, HOWEVER, IT APPEARS THAT CONTINENTAL IS AWARE OF A MANUFACTURING DEFECT AND HAS NOW LIMITED THE WARRANTY PERIOD TO 12 MOS. THEY HAVE APPARENTLY CONTINUED TO EXPERIENCE PROBLEMS WITH THE INNER SIDEWALL FAILURE BECAUSE THE TIRE IS NO LONGER OFFERED. WE PURCHASED OUR 2010 SUBARU OUTBACK IN DECEMBER 2009. BY SPRING OF 2010 I HAVE NOTICED THAT AT RANDOM TIMES I WILL TURN THE CAR ON AND MY INTERIOR LIGHTS WILL NOT WORK, MY HEATING/AC WILL BE BLASTING HOT AIR AT ME FROM THE DASH VENTS WHEN IT IS IN THE OFF POSITION, RADIO WILL NOT TURN ON AND CAN NOT SEE MY MILEAGE DISPLAY. ALSO AT RANDOM TIMES MY GAUGES WILL NOT REGISTER. I HAVE TAKEN IT SEVERAL TIMES TO THE DEALERSHIP. OUR 2010 3.6R OUTBACK ARRIVED IN APR. THE FIRST TIME THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN ON THE HIGHWAY, I NOTICED A PROMINENT HIGH FREQUENCY VIBRATION IN THE STEERING WHEEL. THERE IS ALSO UNUSUAL FEEDBACK IN THE STEERING WHEEL AT SLOWER SPEEDS THAT FEELS UNLIKE ANYTHING RELATED TO ROAD NOISE. I RESEARCHED THE "PROBLEM" ON THE INTERNET AND SEEN THAT THERE WERE MANY FORUMS IDENTIFYING THE SAME PROBLEM FOR 2010 OUTBACKS. I INFORMED OUR LOCAL SUBARU SERVICE DEPT. ABOUT THE VIBRATION AND MADE AN APPOINTMENT. A SUBARU SERVICE TECHNICIAN CONFIRMED THE VIBRATION DURING A TEST DRIVE AND RECOMMENDED A SPIN BALANCE. AFTER READING ALL THE COMPLAINTS AND PROPOSED "FIXES" ON THE INTERNET, I TOLD THEM THAT I WAS NOT CONFIDENT THAT A SPIN BALANCE WAS GOING TO BE SUCCESSFUL. I ASKED THE SERVICE DEPT. MANAGER IF THEY HAD BEEN INFORMED/AWARE OF THE ONGOING PROBLEMS AND SHE DENIED HAVING ANY PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE OF STEERING VIBRATION ISSUES WITH ANY OUTBACKS. THE SPIN BALANCE ADDED A MULTITUDE OF STICK-ON WEIGHTS TO ALL FOUR WHEELS (SOME EXCEED 9 IN. IN LENGTH). THE INVOICE SAID THAT A FOLLOW-UP TEST DRIVE BY A TECHNICIAN PRODUCED NORMAL STEERING AS DESIGNED. A TEST DRIVE HOME FROM THE DEALERSHIP ON THE HIGHWAY AGAIN PRODUCED THE SAME HIGH FREQUENCY VIBRATION. I INFORMED THE SERVICE DEPT. IMMEDIATELY AND THE VEHICLE WAS AGAIN LEFT THERE THIS MORNING. I PRODUCED SEVERAL PAGES OF COMPLAINTS FOUND ON THE INTERNET IDENTIFYING THIS ISSUE. THEY MADE COPIES OF THEM AND TOLD ME THAT THEY WERE GOING TO CONTACT SOA FACTORY ENGINEERS. THE BOTTOM LINE IS THIS. THE VIBRATION IS PROMINENT ENOUGH TO CAUSE FATIGUE AND NUMBNESS IN THE HANDS ON EXTENDED DRIVES. THERE IS ALSO A CONCERN OF WHAT MAY FAIL AND CAUSE A LOSS OF STEERING OR VEHICLE CONTROL. THE FAULTY COMPONENT NEEDS TO BE IDENTIFIED AND THE ISSUE FIXED BY SOA IMMEDIATELY. MY WIFE AND I HAVE BEEN LOYAL SUBARU OWNERS FOR OVER TEN YEARS, BUT WE HAVE ENCOUNTERED TWO TROUBLING PROBLEMS WITHIN THE SAME YEAR. THE FIRST PROBLEM WAS EVENTUALLY TAKEN CARE OF BY SUBARU OF AMERICA AFTER SEVERAL MONTHS OF GOING TO DIFFERENT DEALERS TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. WE HAD A BAD TRANSMISSION WHICH FINALLY WAS RECOGNIZED AS THE PROBLEM AND IT NEEDED REPLACING BUT SUBARU OF AMERICA DECIDED IT WOULD BUY BACK THE 2009 SUBARU FORRESTER WHICH HAD THIS PROBLEM FROM THE DAY MY WIFE PURCHASED IT. WE WERE TOLD WE HAD TO BUY ANOTHER SUBARU BUT THIS WE THOUGHT WAS NO PROBLEM. MY WIFE CHOSE A 2010 OUTBACK AND WITHIN A COUPLE OF WEEKS THE NIGHTMARE STARTED ALL OVER AGAIN. WE THOUGHT HOW COULD THIS HAPPEN'WHAT ARE THE ODDS OF TWO CARS FROM SUBARU HAVING TRANSMISSION ISSUES. THE FIRST TIME WAS ONE THING BUT A SECOND TIME? THE TRANSMISSION IS ELECTRONIC BUT IT DOES NOT PERFORM PROPERLY. WE HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALERSHIP A NUMBER OF TIMES HAVE BEEN TOLD IT IS OPERATING NORMALLY. WE KNOW THE TRANSMISSION IS NOT SUPPOSED TO SLAM INTO FIRST GEAR WHEN THE CAR COMES TO A STOP AFTER BEING ON THE HIGHWAY. THE PROBLEM IS WAY PAST ANNOYING AND WE NEED TO GET TO THE BOTTOM OF THIS. MY WIFE AND I HAVE BEEN MORE THAN PATIENT BUT ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. WE HAVE TEST DRIVEN OTHER MODELS OF THIS MAKE AND DO NOT EXPERIENCE THE TRANSMISSION ISSUE. MY WIFE DRIVES THE CAR MORE THAN ME SEEING AS IT IS HER CAR BUT SHE IS AT WITS END. NEW MODEL 2010 SUBARU OUTBACK ROOF RACK. THE MANUAL STATES IT IS UNSAFE TO TIE A LOAD DIRECTLY TO THE ROOF RACK AS IT MAY RESULT IN LOSS OF LOAD IF THIS IS TRUE -NOT EVERY ONE WILL BE AWARE OF THIS AND THERE WILL BE LOADS LOST. MORE SERIOUS - IT STATES ON PG 8-15 "DO NOT USE THE ROOF RAILS WHEN THE BARS ARE RESTORED". IN THE RESTORED POSITION THESE BARS LOOK LIKE MOST ROOF RACKS. THEY WILL BE USED TO CARRY LOADS. ONE END OF EACH BAR IS ONLY IN A PLASTIC HOLE WITH NO STRENGTH THERE IS NO DOUBT PEOPLE WILL BE UNAWARE AND LOADS WILL BE LOST ON THE HWY. *TR
