Thermostat housing and water pump are leaking coolant. It is available for inspection. It can cause my engine to overheat and/or fail while being used. It has been confirmed by a dealership. It has not been inspected by the police, manufacturer, or insurance company. There have been occasional reports of low coolant, and the coolant drains significantly faster than expected especially in cold weather (e.g. needing to fill coolant every 7 days). It was first repaired in 2019, and has since failed again.

While normally driving on the street, I noticed that the car started to overheat and could hear the radiator working to keep the heat level normal. I stopped and did not notice any leaks and added coolant to the car after I left it cool for about 3 hours. The problem went away but i still took it to the dealership and i was told it might be the head gasket of the engine or thermostat/waterpump, a $4000 repair. Was advised to just sell the car. VW should address this issue as it has been a long issue now

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Coolant leak from very known area which is the water pump. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? If leaks to much it can cause the car to run very hot and have to pull over. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes most dealers do say it is a common problem. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? No Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No

Loss of coolant due to cheap plastic housing leads to damage to the thermostat and water pump. Researching the forums on this issue has shown that it's a common problem with the vehicle that Volkswagen hasn't addressed.

The chrome plastic trim coating on the START/STOP button and also the steering wheel have peeled and are razor sharp. I cut myself badly on both pieces on my right fore fingertip and middle ring finger. I try to avoid placing my hand accross the horn of the steering wheel since this happened, but the trim there is very dangerously sharp. There is a recall on the same trim on 2017 cars (Service Action 34L9), but the VW dealer told me there was not on my vehicle.

The chrome trim frame on the manual gear shift cover cracks and flakes off, causing dangerous sharp edges that have cut the hands of multiple members of my family. Same as the issue causing VW Service Action 34J7/34L9 except for manual transmission vehicles. Dealership looked up my VIN and said no recall or Service Action was available even though they know it's a common issue.

Shift boot trim near storage compartment has a metal coating that starts to flake off and is razor sharp. This frequently cuts myself and my wife and is dangerous enough to have issued a recall but apparently it is only for automatics. This is odd since both Auto and Manual have a similar problem that seems to be widespread on forums across the web. Service Action Code: 34J7/34L9

My daughter was driving the car on [XXX] in Sealy, Texas, and the sunroof spontaneously shattered. The driver and passenger did not detect an impact that caused the glass to break. VW Care has refused to offer me financial assistance due to the fact the vehicle is out of warranty. The case number associated with my call to VW Care is [XXX]. However, I believe this is a very dangerous product defect that needs to be addressed, as were defective airbags in cars that have been out of warranty. The car only has 36,000 miles. Thermostat/water pump housing leaking coolant at 20,000 miles. No damage to vehicle that caused this, seems to be a common issue with VW Golfs. The repair is out of pocket and the dealership which sold me the car only a year ago is quoting $1600.

Recall service was performed on the fuel system. The vehicle was operating normally before the recall. Shortly after the recall service, the fuel gauge failed and became stuck at mid-level. Dealer refuses to cover the repair and claims it is unrelated, but the timing and failure of another fuel system component suggests otherwise. This presents a safety issue because the driver cannot determine fuel level or range and may impact other recalled vehicles and should be included in the repair of the fuel system. The recall that was performed on the vehicle was "Safety Recall 20UF - Suction Jet Pump". I believe the timing of the failure suggests that the recall work impacted the vehicle fuel system and I don't believe it's fair for customers following safety recalls to be punished and required to pay for further damages caused from a recall on the vehicle.

I brought my 2015 Volkswagen (with only 50,000 miles) to Island Volkswagen in NY for a fuel system recall repair. Before this, the car had no fuel smell, no leaks, and was driving normally. Immediately after the recall work, I began smelling fuel. The dealership told me the fuel line is leaking and needs to be replaced. I never had this issue before, and it’s clearly related to the repair they performed. I’m now being told I must pay $550 out of pocket for something I believe was caused by their handling of the fuel system during the recall. This is a serious safety concern. If I drive this car and something goes wrong, it could result in a fire. I believe this issue deserves review, especially if other drivers experience similar problems after this recall.

I purchased a vehicle from a dealer and there was an open recall for said vehicle. I was looking on the NHTSA.gov website and discovered a document mentioning that it is illegal for a dealership to sell a vehicle with an open & not fixed recall, prior to selling said vehicle. I am not entirely sure what this means for me and my vehicle but, I wanted to submit a claim just in case. Please contact me back if you require more information. I have scheduled a service at a certified Volkswagen dealership in my area to repair the suction jet pump recall for next Thursday (March 6) but, am afraid to drive the car until then as I started experiencing issues 2 days after the purchase of my GTI. On 8/1/2024 my housemate was driving this vehicle on the highway and another driver signaled to her that there was an issue with the vehicle. He put a white board outside of the drivers side window which said "gas is pouring out of the back of your car." There was no warning light to indicate that something was wrong and no prior leaking. When she arrived at home the fuel tank was nearly empty and she informed me of the problem. I asked her when she had filled the tank and she said approximately 2 days ago and that prior to starting her short drive today had over half a tank of fuel. I took the car to the gas station to try to fill the tank. I was unable to fill the tank as the shut off mechanism kept triggered at the fuel pump. I was able to get less than half a tank of gas into the vehicle, so that I could drive is less than 5 miles to the mechanic. During this drive I lost approximately 1/4 of a tank of fuel. After an analysis of the vehicle they determined that fuel was leaking through the carbon canister. They identified this as an issue related to a recalled suction jet pump seal. I had my vehicle towed to the VW dealership in order to complete the repair. I was informed that at that time the repair for the recall was unavailable. Their review of the vehicle noted that the carbon canister had overflowed and leaked. This is a direct result of the suction pump seal failing. I requested both from the dealer and VW directly that this repair be covered under the recall and they stated that the language in the recall prevents them from covering the expense of my repair even though this damage is listed as a potential result of their recalled parts failure. VW put me & my loved one at risk. Driving a car that is leaking fuel is extremely dangerous and they have skirted their responsibility as a business by refusing to cover a repair that is a direct result of their recalled parts failure. I have filed a report w/ VW directly and the case number is 06376308.

Vehicle had recall for "leaking fuel fire risk" Strong smell of fuel inside car. Manufacturer recall #20UF NHTSA recall 24V110 There has not been a fix yet available. Dealer (Team Volkswagen Merrillville IN) replaced the Jet fuel pump. Problem continued, VW engineering said bring the car back and replace the entire fuel tank. Completed. Problem returned 2 weeks later (XXX). While driving home from work noticed extremely strong fuel odor in car. Pulled off in a store parking lot, someone ran up and told me my car was leaking fuel. Gas was literally pouring out, I lost 1/4 tank of fuel on way home. The fuel was leaking under hood, under fuel tank area and under the rear passenger seat. I had the car towed to the dealer. Volkswagen does not have an actual fix for the problem. I should be given a replacement car due to Volkswagen being unable to correct this serious safety issue. What should I do, I am afraid to take the car back. I have videos and several pictures but unable to upload onto this website. The contact owns a 2015 Volkswagen Golf. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the fuel gauge level dropped quickly, and there was an abnormal fuel odor before the vehicle shutoff in the middle of the roadway. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact exited the vehicle and push the vehicle to the side of the road. The contact stated that while checking underneath the vehicle, the contact became aware of a fuel leak. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The independent mechanic confirmed the fuel leak and referred the contact to the dealer for assistance with the repair. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The contact referenced NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V110000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE) as a possible cause for the failure. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 111,000.

I was driving to my grandparents house and once i got to the house there was gasoline dripping from the back of car, from the area of the tank. The contact owned a 2015 Volkswagen GTI A7. The contact stated while driving at approximately 30 MPH, while accelerating from a stop the vehicle was involved in a front collision caused by loose gravel on the road. The contact stated she lost control and drove into a ditch that struck a concrete culvert. The contact sustained minor injuries such as bruises on her elbows, knees, and head but did not require medical attention. The air bags did not deploy. The vehicle was towed to a tow lot which was then towed to the insurance lot for further investigation. A police report was filed. The insurance provider deemed the vehicle totaled and took it to a tow lot. Upon further investigation the contact related the failure to an unidentified recall however, the VIN was not included. The local dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 85,000.

Clockspring broken it’s the third time in 4 years. I was pulling out of a parking lot making a left turn. There was a ratcheting sound from the steering wheel. I then had an airbag error and none of the steering wheel mounted controls were working including the horn. The defective part is still installed.

We purchased our VW Golf TDI ([XXX]) in January 2015 and have now had to replace the clock spring three times. The first two times were covered under the 69L2 limited warranty(See attached bills) but our car now has 128,000 miles and is considered ineligible. We do not understand why our model year was not included under the unlimited warranty extension as part of the 69L2 campaign. When a major component fails three times over a six year period, there is obviously something wrong with it that has not been addressed. Our teenage son drives the car and it is unsafe to have life-saving components like the airbag and horn fail on a regular basis. The hood release doesn’t work and cannot access anything in the engine bay. No oil changes until the hood can be opened. Clear recall due to the danger of not being able to open. The handle inside the car broke by attempting to open the hood.

There is a crack and leak in my sunroof. I have not done anything to my car that would result in the crack. Based on Reddit searches, this is a frequent problem for VW owners. Autobody shops do not want to touch my sunroof or fix it because they do not have success fixing sunroofs.

THE CHROME TRIM AROUND THE SHIFTER LEVEL IS EXTREMELY SHARP AND IS A SAFETY HAZARD. REACHING INTO THE STORAGE COMPARTMENT IN FRONT OF THE SHIFTER, MY FINGER CAUGHT THIS SHARP EDGE AND WAS SERIOUSLY CUT. THERE WAS A LOT OF BLOOD AND PAIN AS A RESULT. AN ONLINE SEARCH REVEALS THAT THIS TYPE OF INJURY IS NOT UNCOMMON.

Driving on thruway at 65 when the left rear coil spring broke. There was a loud bang and pieces of the spring exited out onto the highway where several vehicles ran over them before they bounced off the road.

Left rear coil spring failed and is not available for inspection. The car was difficult to control when the spring failed which put driver safety at risk. The car was brought to an independent service center and confirmed that the failure was a left rear coil spring which required replacing both the left and right rear coil springs. The component was not inspected by the manufacturer. There were no warning signs or symptoms of the problem prior to failure. The car suddenly start making a loud noise in the rear left section of the vehicle while driving.

The contact did an inspection of the vehicle and noticed that the rear coil spring on the driver’s side had fractured. The contact had not taken the vehicle to the dealer. The contact stated that the coil spring needed to be replaced. The contact ordered the part to perform the repair himself. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 140,000.

Right rear coil spring fractured while vehicle was being driven at low speed on city streets. There was no obvious precipitating event. Upper part of spring was lost, lower part is available for inspection. Part has been ordered from local dealer but is currently unavailable, due to prior recall on similar models (19V188000). Report will be filed with VW Customer Service. Dealer unable to estimate when part will become available. Car is currently undrivable. Please extend recall to include my VIN. Recall 19V188000 Summary Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain 2017-2019 Golf Sportwagen, 2019 Jetta, 2015-2019 Golf, and 2018-2019 Tiguan vehicles. The rear coil springs may prematurely fracture.

I HAD MY THERMOSTAT HOUSING REPLACED TO DUE LEAKAGE. I WANTED TO FILE A COMPLAINT BECAUSE I BELIEVE THIS IS A REOCCURRING ISSUE THAT CAN LEAD TO ENGINE DAMAGE. THIS HAS HAPPENED GRADUALLY OVER TIME AND NOT DUE TO ANY INCIDENT WITH ANOTHER VEHICLE. THIS WAS DISCOVERED FROM A VW SERVICE WHEN I WAS AT APPROXIMATELY 57000 MILES.

I'VE BEEN THROUGH THREE TRANSMISSIONS SINCE I PURCHASED THE CAR THREE YEARS AGO. THE FIRST TRANSMISSION WENT OUT DUE TO MECHANIC ERROR, VW PUT A NEW ONE IN THAT ONE FAIL CATASTROPHICALLY BUT VW BLAMED THE FAIL ON THE FLYWHEEL (IT HAD HOTSPOTS ON IT) PAID $4000 FOR A USED TRANSMISSION (WITH 32K ON IT) AND NEW CLUTCH AND FLYWHEEL. NOW THAT ONE FAILED WHEN I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE IT WAS CONSTANTLY SLIPPING OUT OF 5TH GEAR AND IT WAS HARD TO SHIFT IT INTO A LOWER GEAR..I'VE NEVER HAD ISSUES LIKE THIS BEFORE I'VE BEEN DRIVING MANUAL FOR 7 YEARS. I'M WONDERING WHAT IS CAUSING ALL THESE TRANSMISSIONS TO FAIL.

OVER TIME, A BUILD-UP OF SILICATE ON THE SHIFT LEVER MICRO SWITCH CONTACTS CAN MAKE IT POSSIBLE TO REMOVE THE KEY FROM THE IGNITION SWITCH WITHOUT THE SHIFT LEVER BEING IN THE "P" PARK POSITION. THIS MAKES THE VEHICLE NONCOMPLIANT WITH 49 CFR 571.114 STANDARD NO. 114 THEFT PROTECTION AND ROLLAWAY PREVENTION. IF THE IGNITION KEY IS REMOVED WITHOUT THE SHIFT LEVER BEING IN THE "P" PARK POSITION, THERE IS A RISK THAT THE VEHICLE MAY ROLL AWAY, RESULTING IN A CRASH THAT COULD INJURE PEOPLE AND DAMAGE PROPERTY.

I smelled a strong odor coming from the heater that turned out to be burnt plastic and wiring associated with the auxiliary heater. This is an obvious fire/ smoke hazard that could have been deadly if other nearby components caught fire.

When I switch the key to turn on the car it does turn on and it says starting system error on the dashboard car runs ok it’s just that it keep saying that and I think there is something wrong with the ignition switch that Volkswagen should address. Thank you!

I WAS SENT A RECALL NOTICE FROM VOLKSWAGEN OF AMERICA STATING THAT A MICRO SWITCH MAY BE FAULTY AND THAT I SHOULD SCHEDULE AN INSPECTION IMMEDIATELY. I SCHEDULED SERVICE AND WAS TOLD BY THE DEALERSHIP THAT THERE WAS NO REMEDY AVAILABLE. MORE RECENTLY, I RECEIVED ANOTHER NOTICE DETAILING THE RECALL AND REMEDY AND WAS TOLD AGAIN BY THE DEALERSHIP THERE WAS NO REMEDY AVAILABLE.THIS SECOND RECALL NOTICE VERY CLEARLY STATES THAT THE REMEDY IS FOR THE DEALER TO INSTALL AN ADDITIONAL SWITCH AND CIRCUIT BOARD AND THAT IT WILL TAKE ABOUT AN HOUR. IT MAKES NO SENSE TO ME THAT I WOULD RECEIVE A NOTICE TELLING ME TO GET MY CAR FIXED ASAP, BUT THERE IS NO REMEDY AVAILABLE.

Plastic Thermostat Housing Failure-- Cracks and leaking coolant. While getting an oil change done at a local Volkswagen dealership, the mechanic pointed out that there is a coolant leak and showed me where the leak is coming from (Thermostat housing/water pump) The coolant is slowly seep out of the crack on the underside of the thermostat housing, I have been adding coolant every other week. As the loss of coolant often trips the low coolant warning if the level isn't maintained. I feel like I'm not the only one with this issue, after reading online Volkswagen community. Many 2015-2020 GTI owners are also having the same problem. The car overheated couple times when stuck in New York traffic, I would like Volkswagen manufacture to address this issue and give all the GTI owners an explanation to why their part fails less than a few years of ownership.

I HAVE A 2015 GTI THAT HAS ONLY 80,000 MILES ON IT. I HAD A REPAIR DONE TO REPLACE VALVES, COIL SPRINGS, SPARK PLUGS AND IGNITION COILS LAST YEAR DUE TO FAILURE OF THE ENGINE. THEY CLAIMED TO FIX THIS PROBLEM AND A YEAR LATER THE SAME EXACT FAILURE HAPPENED. THE FIRST TIME IT COST 3,500 TO FIX WITH A CUSTOMER LOYALTY DISCOUNT. THIS TIME THEY SUGGEST REPLACING THE ENGINE AT A 14,000 PRICE TAG. THERE IS CLEARLY SOME DESIGN FLAW THAT IS CAUSING THIS REPEATED FAILURE IN SUCH A NEW CAR. VOLKSWAGEN DOESN'T BACK UP THE PREVIOUS REPAIR. WITH THE FREQUENCY OF THIS ISSUE I'M SURE THERE ARE OTHER PEOPLE WITH THIS SAME ISSUE.

WHILE DRIVING TO WORK, MY VEHICLE WOULD LOSE ACCELERATION AS I PRESS ON THE GAS AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE RIGHT AWAY. ALSO AS I'M IN PARK OR IDLING IN TRAFFIC, THE CAR WOULD SHUT OFF BUT THE VEHICLE LIGHTS WOULD STILL FUNCTION.

I TOOK IT TO MY LOCAL VOLKSWAGEN DEALER WHICH ENDED UP REPLACING THE WHOLE BOX UNIT DO TO AN ELECTRICAL SENSOR NOT READING WHEN I'D ENGAGE INTO DRIVE. I WAS UNDER WARRANTY SO IT WAS COST FREE BUT ANOTHER YEAR LATER THE SAME ERROR IS COMING OUT AND WAS TOLD IT WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED AGAIN BUT I'M NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY SO I'D HAVE TO PAY. I FEEL THAT'S PRETTY UNFAIR AND UNACCEPTABLE KNOWING ITS HAPPEN ONCE AND WAS REPLACED BY PROFESSIONALS YET I'M STUCK WITH THE SAME SITUATION. I FEEL THIS PART SHOULD HAVE CAME WITH SOME SORT OF GUARANTEE AFTER BEING REPLACED. I GOT THIS CAR IN NOVEMBER OF 2015 AND IT'S PRETTY SAD THAT IN UNDER 4 YEARS I'M EXPERIENCING THIS SCENARIO. NOW I FEAR OF DRIVING KNOWING THAT ERROR WILL COME ON AT SOME POINT OR WORSE SOMETHING HAPPEN WITH MY GEARS AND THE CAR BE PUT IN ANOTHER GEAR AT RANDOM. AND NOW I'M BEING PLACED IN ANOTHER SITUATION IN WHICH MY WATERPUMP IS LEAKING COOLANT WHICH I FIND VERY UPSETTING KNOWING VOLKSWAGEN HAD THIS SAME ISSUE WITH THE 201-2014 GTI MK6 AND HAD A RECALL YET IT SEEMS THE PROBLEM CONTINUES WITH THE FOLLOWING GENERATION. AND IT'S SAD TO SAY BUT I'M AT THE POINT OF CALLING CORPORATE AND SEEING WHAT THEY CAN DO BECAUSE I HAVEN'T EVEN HIT 50,000 MILES AND THIS IS HAPPENING. AND BOTH OF THIS PARTS ARE PRETTY PRICEY WHEN IT COMES TO LABOR. AT THIS POINT I CAN ONLY HOLD OFF AND SAVE TO HOPEFULLY GET THE WATER PUMP REPLACED BUT AS FAR AS FOR THE TRANSMISSON ISSUE I'LL WAIT TO SEE WHAT CAN BE DONE BECAUSE I FEEL THAT SHOULD BE RESOLVED BY VOLKSWAGEN.

Suction jet pump failed causing vehicle to have numerous issues and had to be repaired due to being unable to drive. Suction jet pump has a recall with no remedy. Repairs cost me $3369.39 and car was in the shop for 24 days while shop tried to locate recalled part from a distributor.

FIRST CAR STARTS. SECOND PUT THE GEAR INTO REVERSE. THIRD CAR STARTS TO STALL SLOWLY SHUTTING DOWN THE ENGINE WHILE IN REVERSE. AFTER DRIVING HOME FROM THE GAS STATION AFTER REPLACING MY TIRES GOING ABOUT 50MPH. MY BRAKE FLUID LIGHT CAME ON AND THE BRAKES DID NOT WORK AT ALL. LUCKY I WAS ABLE TO DOWN SHIFT AND E BRAKE ON THE CITY STREET. I TOOK IT TO THE FIRESTONE MECHANIC. THINKING THE HIT A LINE OR CUT A LINE ON ACCIDENT. AFTER INSPECTION NOTHING WAS CUT OR BROKEN. AFTER OPENING THE HOOD IT REVILED NO BRAKE FLUID AT ALL. AFTER REMOVING PARTS IT WAS THEN DISCOVERED THAT THE MASTER CYLINDER WAS LEAKING IN THE FIREWALL. AFTER GOING ONLINE TO THE FORUMS I NOTICED OTHER PEOPLE ARE HAVING THIS PROBLEM. THE DEALERSHIP FOR VOLKSWAGEN ARE TRYING TO BLAME THEM.. BUT THEY DIDN'T EVEN OPEN THE HOOD. IN 3 SEPARATE INSTANCES, WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS (65-72 MPH), THE CRUISE CONTROL HAS DISENGAGED, CAUSING SUDDEN AND RAPID DECELERATION OF THE VEHICLE. IN ALL INSTANCES, THE PAVEMENT WAS DRY, I WAS NOT TAILGATING, AND FEET WERE NOT NEAR THE BRAKE (I.E. I DID NOT ACCIDENTALLY HIT THE BRAKE). THIS IS A DANGEROUS SCENARIO. WILL BE TAKING THE CAR INTO DEALER IN A FEW WEEKS, BUT UNSURE THEY WILL BE ABLE TO REPRODUCE OR DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. SEVERAL OTHER OWNERS OF GOLFS HAVE REPORTED THIS SAME ISSUE ON THE TDI FORUM.

WHEN I RELEASED THE CLUTCH, AND BEGAN STEERING INTO THE CURVE, THE CAR'S CRUISE CONTROL RE-ENGAGED AND I FOUND MYSELF STRUGGLING TO STEER AROUND THE CURVE AT 45 MPH. VW'S OWN INSTRUCTION VIDEO SAYS THAT WHEN THE CLUTCH PEDAL IS DEPRESSED THE CRUISE CONTROL DIS-ENGAGES AND THAT THE DRIVER MUST PRESS THE RESUME BUTTON FOR THE CRUISE CONTROL TO BE RE-ENGAGED. One night I started hearing a crunching noise while I was turning my wheel at low speeds. I backed out of a parking spot and started to turn the wheel to hear the full extent of the noise. The next morning, I got up and went out, backed up the car, turned the wheel to the same noise coming from the steering wheel. About an hour later, I drove home and turned into my parking spot, when the noise got worse and then stopped. At the end of the noise, two error codes arose: Airbag and transmission error. The steering wheel controls, such as volume and song control do not work, as well as other functions on the wheel, such as the dash control and cruise control buttons. I quickly googled the symptoms around the make, model and year and saw mass amounts of Volkswagen vehicles around 2015 that experienced the same issues, and the issue of a faulty clock-spring being the culprit. With this in mind, I reached out to a Volkswagen dealership to relay my concerns and the conversation ended with an appointment booked and a consensus that the issue was a faulty clock-spring, as many have had this issue. This issue seems to be widespread throughout many years and models of the Volkswagen line, however, my car follows a wide group of cars by one year in manufacture date, yet it lacks a recall part, despite the believed widespread affected group of cars. My appointment with the Volkswagen dealership went as expected- they found that my clock spring was indeed the issue. The service advisor admitted that the "clock-springs are bound to break." However, my car is 6,000 miles out of warranty to be able to cover the cost of this repair at the moment of typing this. And with further confirmation, the clock spring part is not a recalled part, thus deeming the uncovered service, despite the admittance to a faulty and common issue. I drove a significant distance to reach my dealership with the fear of my stearing wheel locking up while I am driving on the freeway. It has yet to lock.

My airbag light came on today as I was backing out of a parking space (7/29/22 and mileage 235845), and this was after plastic creaking/cracking noises coming from my steering wheel for quite a while when I turned it. The frequency and amount of noise when I turned the wheel had increased a lot lately. This is the second time this exact thing has happened - I had to replace the clock spring in the steering wheel once before (3/19/19 at milage 154165). While I know I drive a lot, it’s mostly straight on the interstate since I live in a rural area, so I am not turning the wheel constantly. I’m hesitant about if it’s worth it to spend money on replacing it since the last time it was almost $800, and has now broken again, only 80k miles later. I know that earlier years of VWs had this part recalled and I am wondering if that should have extended to 2015s - although I’m not sure what good that would do me since the replacement one I had installed at the dealer also broke.

AS I WAS TURNING MY STEERING WHEEL, I HEARD A CRINKLE SOUND AND THE AIR BAG LIGHT CAME ON. I REALIZED LATER THAT I COULD NO LONGER HONK THE HORN. WHEN I BROUGHT MY CAR IN FOR SERVICE, THE CLOCK SPRING WAS REPLACED, HOWEVER THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM HAPPENED AGAIN WITHIN WEEKS. I CANNOT HONK MY HORN AND I AM CONCERNED THAT MY AIR BAG WILL NOT DEPLOY IN THE CASE OF AN EMERGENCY.

WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 30 MILES PER HOUR THE CAR CAME UP WITH AN ALERT OF ELECTRICAL FAULT STOP NOW AND THE POWERTRAIN SHUT DOWN WITH ZERO THROTTLE RESPONSE. I WAS ABLE TO PULL INTO THE RIGHT LANE AND PARTY INTO A DRIVEWAY OF A FAST FOOD RESTAURANT. I WAS UNABLE TO TURN OFF THE CAR, I GOT OUT AND PUSHED IT INTO THE PARKING LOT. EVENTUALLY THE CAR TURNED OFF AND AFTER A FEW ATTEMPTS I WAS ABLE TO TURN IT BACK ON. I WAS IN "B" MODE (REGENERATIVE BRAKING MODE) AND DECIDED TO DRIVE IT IN "D" (REGULAR DRIVE) THE EXTRA 2 MILES HOME. NO CARS WERE NEAR ME AND I WAS NOT UNDER A BRIDGE, THUS NO EVIDENCE THAT THE SUNROOF WAS STRUCK BY AN EXTERNAL OBJECT. THERE WAS ALSO NO VISIBLE EVIDENCE OF DAMAGE TO THE GLASS PRIOR TO ENTERING THE VEHICLE, I CHECK EVERY TIME I BUY GAS. THE GLASS SHATTERED SUDDENLY IN A LOUD EXPLOSION THAT SOUNDED LIKE A GUNSHOT AND SHARDS WERE SCATTERED THROUGHOUT THE INTERIOR OF THE VEHICLE AND COVERED MYSELF AND MY PASSENGER - ALTHOUGH MOST OF THE SHARDS BLEW OUTWARD AND LANDED ON THE ROAD. THE EXPERIENCE WAS EXTREMELY FRIGHTENING AND COULD HAVE CAUSED SERIOUS INJURIES. LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO MAINTAIN CALM AND SLOWLY DRIVE OFF THE FREEWAY RATHER THAN JERKING THE WHEEL WHEN THE EXPLOSION HAPPENED. THE ONLY INJURIES ARE EMOTIONAL AND 12 HOURS LATER I AM STILL FINDING SMALL SHARDS OF GLASS ON MY PERSON (HAIR, INSIDE MY MOUTH AND NOSE, ON MY CLOTHES).

I PURCHASED A 2015 VW GOLF TDI WITH 18" WHEELS AND LOW PROFILE PIRELLI TIRES AUGUST 2014. THIS VEHICLE WAS RE-ENGINEERED FOR THE US MARKET TO MAKE ROOM FOR THE UREA TANK THAT IS NEW AND SPECIFIC TO THE US TDI PLATFORM. ALL OTHER GOLF MODELS HAVE AN INDEPENDENT SUSPENSION SYSTEM WHILE THIS MODEL WAS DOWNGRADED TO A TORSION BEAM REAR SUSPENSION. THE VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED ON LOWER END MODELS WITH 16" WHEELS AND HIGHER PROFILE TIRES, BUT THE HIGH END VEHICLES HAVE THE 18" WHEELS AND LOW PROFILE TIRES AS STANDARD EQUIPMENT. ON APRIL 25, I NOTICED A SIDEWALL BUBBLE ON A FRONT TIRE. VW REPLACED BOTH THE TIRE AND BENT RIM AND I WAS TOLD THE OTHER 3 RIMS WERE BENT. THEN THE OTHER FRONT TIRE HAD A SIDEWALL BLOWOUT AND BOTH THAT TIRE AND WHEEL WERE REPLACED. THE OTHER WEEK I ENDED UP WITH A SIDE WALL NAIL IN A REAR TIRE. THIS TIRE WAS REPLACED BUT NOT THE WHEEL AND I WAS TOLD THAT ALL WHEELS ARE BENT, INCLUDING THE 2 NEW WHEELS. I HAVE JUST UNDER 18000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE, HAVE CALLED VW AMERICA AND WAS SENT THE SPEC SHEET ON THE CAR. I ASKED IF A CAR WITHOUT INDEPENDENT SUSPENSION WAS ENGINEERED FOR LOW PROFILE TIRES AND ASKED FOR SOMEONE TO EXPLAIN WHY I HAVE HAD 2 SIDEWALL ISSUES AND 6 BENT RIMS IN UNDER 18,000 MILES AND 11 MONTHS WITHOUT ANY RESPONSE OTHER THAN VW AMERICA SENDING THE SPEC SHEET. I CALLED VW SOS AND THEY CONNECTED ME TO 911. POLICE OFFICER CAME AND HELPED ME PULLING THE CAR TO THE ROADSIDE. THE WINDOWS AND MULTIMEDIA WORKED. TRIED TO PRESS THE POWER BUTTON OFF AND TURNED IT ON BUT SAME ERROR SHOWED. I WAITED FOR ONE HOUR TO TOW MY CAR TO THE DEALER. I GOT CAR BACK FROM DEALER 4 DAYS LATER, IN THEIR REPORT STATED " CHECKED FAULTS IN SYSTEM, FOUND P0C0100 DRIVE MOTOR A CURRENT HIGH. CONTACTED VW HELPLINE. I WAS IN HAYWARD ON THE 880 FREEWAY (FLAT, DRY ROAD) IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC, IN THE HOV LANE GOING ABOUT 40 MPH, AND MY VW E-GOLF JUST SHUT DOWN AND SHOWED THE ERROR "ELECTRICAL SYSTEM FAILURE: STOP!". I HAD ENOUGH MOMENTUM TO COAST 5 FEET OVER TO THE LEFT SIDE (CENTER DIVIDER) I COULD NOT MAKE IT COMPLETELY OUT OF THE LANE. CARS WERE LAYING ON THEIR HORN AND SPEEDING PAST ME WHILE MY BUMPER HUNG OUT A FOOT INTO THE LANE. THE CAR IS 3 MONTHS OLD. IT HAD A CHARGE OF 86 MILES WHEN IT HAPPENED, I HAD IT ON A CHARGING STATION IT SHOWED I CHARGED MY CAR ACCUMULATED (KWH): 29.523. The contact owns a 2015 Volkswagen GTI. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V110000 (Fuel System, Gasoline) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted. The vehicle was previously taken to the local dealer where it was diagnosed and the intake manifold, fuel injector, spark plugs, carbon block, and camshaft adjuster magnet were replaced. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. The failure mileage was approximately 107,630. VIN tool confirms parts not available.

The contact also stated that the failure prevented the doors from being locked manually or by using the key fob. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V464000 (Steering, Electrical System) but the VIN was not included. Over the last two months, I've had over 30 incidences where the car will either randomly shift extremely hard into a gear or will hesitate, stutter, lose power while accelerating. Some of the shifts have been so hard that they've thrown me forward. Some of the losses of power are extremely dangerous as I'm accelerating at highway speeds. I have a full log of at least 30 of these incidents (and detailed as best I could) and they are attached. I picked May 11th because that was the hardest shift/loss of power which caused me the greatest harm. I've been able to reproduce the errors in drive, sport, and Tiptronic mode. The errors occur in all gears, but are most common in 2nd and 3rd (although the higher gears are involved as well), which leads me to believe it's not the transmission, yet the mechatronics unit or something outside of the transmission and engine itself. The troubling issue here is that the car is recording absolutely zero fault codes for diagnosis; that is, the car is shifting, stuttering, hesitating randomly and erratically and no diagnostics are being provided to resolve the issue. Technicians are able to guess what the issue is, but cannot give a guarantee what the problem is without the fault codes. This is the greatest safety concern, but luckily no crashes so far. I was interested to learn that there was a recall on the same model by the Australian government related to the pressure accumulator and I'd like to see if this could be the issue, since I'm experiencing the same symptoms as those described in the recall: https://www.vehiclerecalls.gov.au/recalls/rec-005369. The contact stated that the loss of power issue still persists. The contact stated the issue is a faulty crank trigger.

Discovered several inches of water in the spare tire boot area. The entire back seat was also soaked through. Water appears to be leaking into the car from rear pressure vents behind the bumper or from another undetermined source, posing risks including black mold and damage to the spare tire.

The frame and track of the sun roof has developed a crack. It is available for inspection upon request. Because the frame/track developed a crack in the structural material, I can hear it rattling when I drive, which tells me it is loose. A loose sun roof structural system is not good, as driving on a freeway / highway at a higher speed could possibly cause the sun roof to become detached and fly off of the vehicle, or dislodge enough to distract the driver. Another secondary problem that has happened because of this loose, cracked sun roof track/frame, is that water has now been leaking into the car (possibly causing mold and condensation which has fogged up the windshield while driving) and slippery conditions all over the track/frame. This water drips through the overhead electrical panel, the headliner and down into the speakers. This can cause an electrical shortage in the vehicle, or shock. Water dripping into the car while driving on a rainy day on the freeway, can cause major distraction to the driver in dangerous conditions. The vehicle and sun roof issue have been inspected by the VW dealer, auto shop, and insurance. The VW dealer did tell me they have this issue often for these same models (they were fixing one as i was talking to them) and I have seen lawsuits online for this same issue. The car has never warned me about this issue, there are no warning lamps or messages pertaining to this. Nothing has ever severely impacted the car to cause this problem (It has never been in an accident). Please note, I have not used / opened / activated / operated this sun roof since this issue began back in December 2021. Car Insurance has offered to pay for a new headliner, but not for sun roof repair. The lifetime warranty has declined to pay for the repair because water has been involved (even though water is a secondary issue to the initial issue of a crack developing in the sun roof track/frame under normal dry warm conditions).

The contact owns a 2015 Volkswagen Golf. The contact noticed that the fuel pump would frequent stop while fueling the vehicle. The contact then stated that while his vehicle was being driven by a valet, fuel began to pour out of the fuel tank while on an incline. The valet attendant managed to drive the vehicle down a decline which stopped the leak. Despite the failure, the contact was able to drive the vehicle home. The vehicle was then driven to a dealer where a diagnostic test was performed. The dealer informed the contact that the suction pump, seal, and emission filter needed to be replaced. Upon investigation, the contact linked the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V647000 (Fuel System, Gasoline, Engine and Engine Cooling) however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed him that the vehicle was no longer under warranty. The vehicle had yet to be repaired and remained in the possession of the dealer. The failure mileage was approximately 115,000.

Vehicle started to show intermittent coolant gauge fluctuation with simultaneous loss of cruise control function. The coolant gauge would show cold, then hot. After visiting a dealer, a coolant leak was identified from a crack in the Thermostat/Water Pump housing along with corrosion in the coolant bottle. In addition, the trunk latch failed, likely from a faulty windshield washer fluid valve leaking onto the electrical equipment. All parts were replaced. Within another 3 months the fuel pump failed and needed to be replaced. All parts were repaired at a Volkswagen Dealer. The overheating of the engine and failure of the fuel pump could have caused engine failure and the car to lose immediate power, causing a fire or crash. The faulty rear door latch could have caused the door to open while driving. All of these issues occurred without warning. Check engine light, EPC and disabled cruise control lights came on at the time of the problem. The vehicle also restricted the speed of the car and maximum RPMs allowed.

The emergency parking hand brake won't engage until after around an average of 5 attempts. The hand brake button and spring behind it is also loose and pops off. I'm unable to drive with it on, or else it can pop off and fall to the floor. This causes issues as now I'm unable to use the emergency hand brake in an event of an emergency, which is what the purpose of the emergency hand brake is for.

I DON'T KNOW WHAT TYPE OF AIRBAGS THEY ARE, I'VE HAD TO HAVE MY CLUTCH REPLACED, WATERPUMP AND THERMOSTAT AND MY HEATER CORES, NOW MY COOLANT HOSE HAS GONE OUT ALL THIS IN LET THAN 3 MONTHS AND I HAVE ALSO HAD TO REPLACE, ROTORS TWO TIMES IN TWO YEARS IT'S GOT TO BE SOME WRONG I TAKE GOOD CARE OF MY CAR IT ONLY HAVE 72686 MILES ON IT.

EVERY TIME I USE THE REAR WINDSHIELD WIPER, A CASCADE OF WASHER FLUID SEEPS ON THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE ON THE FLOOR MAT. I'VE ONLY HAD THE VEHICLE FOR 1 MONTH. ALSO, I'VE NOTICE EVERY TIME IT RAINS, THE CEILING ON MY GTI GETS VERY WET DUE TO A LEAK POSSIBLY BECAUSE OF THE SUNROOF. I'LL PROVIDE A PICTURE WHEN IT RAINS NEXT TIME. I DROVE THE CAR TO A MEETING ON THURSDAY EVENING, JAN 4TH, 2018. PARKED IT IN A RESIDENTIAL HOME OFFICE PARKING AREA IN SANTA FE, NM AT 6PM. AT 6:10PM ANOTHER PERSON ARRIVED TO THE MEETING AND SAID SHE SAW FLAMES BY A RED CAR. IT WAS MY GOLF. SEVERAL OF US WENT OUT WITH POTS OF WATER AND A HOSE TO CONTAIN THE FIRE. MOVED THE OTHER VEHICLES AWAY FROM IT TO AVOID IT SPREADING. THE FLAMES CAME DOWN FROM THE ENGINE ONTO THE GROUND IN FRONT OF THE BUMPER. IT WAS SMOKY AND SMELT HORRIBLE. WE WERE ABLE TO CONTAIN THE FIRE. WHEN THE FIRE DEPT ARRIVED THEY USED A SPECIAL TOOL TO PRY THE HOOD OPEN AND USED THE RESIDENTIAL GARDEN HOSE TO DOUSE THE ENGINE TO STOP THE SMOLDERING AND REDUCE THE HEAT OF THE VEHICLE TO ASSURE IT WOULD NOT IGNITE AGAIN. THE CAR WAS ASSESSED AS TOTALED. I JUST BOUGHT IT FROM VW UPTOWN ABQ. IT WAS A TDI THAT HAD THE MODIFICATION FOR THE EMISSIONS CLASS ACTION SUIT.

STEERING COLUMN CONTROL MECHANISM, AIR BAG SENSOR, LOCK MECHANISM. SAW AN ARTICLE POSTED LAST WEEK ABOUT PREVIOUS RECALL NOT RESOLVING A KNOW ISSUE WITH AIRBAGS THAT AFFECTS THE STEERING COLUMN. I JUST HAD TO PAY $641.10 TO HAVE THIS REPAIRED. IF THIS IS SOMETHING THAT VW SHOULD HAVE HAD TO PAY FOR I WOULD LOVE TO BE ABLE TO RECOUP MY MONEY.

WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHY WE WERE NEVER INFORMED OF THE 3 RECALLS ON OUR 2015 VW GTI. STARTED INVESTIGATING AFTER OUR 2015 VW PASSAT HAS THE BAD AIRBAGS IN THEM. ALSO OWN THE GTI AND WE INVESTIGATED TO SEE IF THE BAD AIRBAGS ARE IN THERE TOO. THAT IS WHEN WE FOUND PROBLEMS WITH THE FUEL PUMP WHICH WAS RECALLED IN JUNE 2015, WE WERE NEVER NOTIFIED, ALSO A FUEL LEAK OF AN IGNITION SOURCE...NEVER NOTIFIED AND A LOOSE STABILIZER LINK IN THE STEERING. WHO WANTS TO DRIVE THIS CAR. WHY WERE WE NOT NOTIFIED OF THESE THREE RECALLS. WE NEVER MOVED, I WANT AN ANSWER AS THIS CAR IS ALWAYS IN USE. WE WERE REALLY UPSET WITH THE PASSAT THAT WE GOT RID OF IT AND THANK GOD WE HAD GOTTEN RID OF OUR OTHER NEW PASSAT LAST YEAR ONLY TO BUY ANOTHER LEMON AND UNSAFE VEHICLE FROM VW......THIS BEING THE GTI. PLEASE GET BACK TO US. IF ANYTHING HAPPENS LIFE THREATENING, YOU WILL BE HELD RESPONSIBLE. YOU ARE IGNORING YOUR CUSTOMERS WHO AT ONE TIME LOVED THEIR VEHICLES....NOW THEY ARE AFRAID TO DRIVE THEM....BUT STILL MUST PAY FOR THEM. MAYBE WE NEED A CAR REPLACEMENT FROM VW FOR THIS GTI FOR NOT LETTING US KNOW. I ENCOUNTERED A CLOSE RED LIGHT AND BRAKED HARD ENOUGH TO ACTIVATE ABS FROM 35 MPH IN DRY ROAD CONDITIONS ON A SUBURBAN HIGHWAY. WHEN I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE AND APPLIED GAS AFTER THE GREEN LIGHT, THE CAR BEGAN TO TRAVEL BACKWARDS! I BRAKED AGAIN AND FOUND THAT THE GEAR SHIFTER HAD GONE INTO THE REVERSE POSITION. I BELIEVE THE BRAKING DECELERATION CAUSED THE GEAR SHIFTER TO TRAVEL FORWARD AGAINST ANY MECHANICAL RESTRAINT AND COME TO REST IN THE REVERSE SETTING.

2015 GOLF STARTED EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS WITH THE ENGINE/TRANSMISSION AFTER FEB 5, 2016 ON THREE DIFFERENT OCCASIONS. UPON STARTING CAR THE IDLE IS EXTREMELY ROUGH AND THEN A WARNING MESSAGE APPEARS THAT STARTS OUT WITH "TRANSMISSION..." GOES OFF QUICKLY BUT A HIGHLIGHTED EXCLAMATION POINT REMAINS. THE MESSAGE GOES OFF TOO QUICKLY TO CAPTURE A PICTURE OF IT. THE EXCLAMATION POINT AND ROUGH IDLE REMAINS UNTIL THE CAR IS TURNED OFF. WHEN THE CAR IS TURNED ON AGAIN IT IS FINE. THE CAR IS CURRENTLY AT A DEALER TO BE REPAIRED AS THEY STATE: WE HAVE TO REPLACE THE SHIFTER ASSEMBLY. I HAVE BEEN TOLD I CANNOT DRIVE IT, THAT THE CAR HAS TO STAY IN THE SHOP AND WAIT FOR A PART TO ARRIVE SOMETIME NEXT WEEK. THIS PROBLEM IS SEPARATE FROM THE OTHER PROBLEMS I HAVE EXPERIENCED: 1). THE RIGHT FRONT SEAT HEATER COME ON AND HEATS UP TO EXTREMELY UNCOMFORTABLE DEGREES-- DEALER SAYS THEY CANNOT FIND A PROBLEM. 2). THE NAVIGATION SYSTEM GOES BLANK-- DOESN'T WORK-- DEALER CAN'T FIND THE PROBLEM 3). A WARNING AND BEEPING THAT THE FRONT RIGHT SEAT BELT NEEDS TO BE FASTENED-- AND NO ONE IS IN THE SEAT, JUST A CELL PHONE. THIS GOLF ONLY HAS 10,600 MILES ON IT.... DID I PURCHASE A LEMON? THE DATE BELOW IS THE LAST TIME THE PROBLEM OCCURRED. IT MAY OR MAY NOT HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH IT BUT THE CAR DID NOT HAVE THIS PROBLEM UNTIL AFTER THE TRANSMISSION SOFTWARE UPDATE WAS DONE IN FEBRUARY.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE AXLE NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED. THE AXLE WAS REPAIRED; HOWEVER, THE STEERING WHEEL CONTINUED TO VIBRATE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 800.

THE DEALERSHIP LEFT THE SHIPPING BLOCKS/PUCKS/DISCS ON THE STRUTS. THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM AS EVIDENCED THROUGH MANY ONLINE FORUMS. THE DEALERSHIP AND MANY OTHERS CLAIM THAT THIS DOES NOT CAUSE A PROBLEM; HOWEVER, THE BLOCKS PREVENT THE SUSPENSION FROM DOING ITS JOB, WHICH IS ABSORBING IMPACT, IMPROVING BRAKING, AND HELPING THE WHEELS MAINTAIN CONTACT WITH THE GROUND. I DROVE OVER 18000 MILES NOT REALIZING THAT THEY WERE ON (I JUST THOUGHT I HAVE A TIGHT SUSPENSION). I HAVE NOW LOST 4 TIRES (PREMATURE WEAR AND BUBBLES/PUNCTURES) AND HAVE DAMAGE TO THE STRUT AND STEERING KNUCKLE. THIS IS A POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS MISTAKE.

THE DRIVERS SIDE HIGH BEAM IS NOT AIMED PROPERLY, IT IS POINTED BELOW THE CUT-OFF LINE OF THE LOW BEAM. THE HEAD LAMP ASSEMBLY HAS BEEN REPLACED BY THE DEALER TWICE BUT THE AIM WAS NOT IMPROVED. VOLKSWAGEN WAS CONTACTED, THEY EVALUATED THE SITUATION AND SAID THAT THIS WAS THE WAY THE SYSTEM WAS DESIGNED AND SO COULD NOT BE FIXED. THE DEALER ALSO SAID THAT THEY LOOKED AT OTHER CARS OF THIS SAME MODEL AND THEY ALL OPERATED THE SAME. BOTH THE HIGH AND LOW BEAM REFLECTORS ARE MOUNTED IN A COMMON HOUSING AND THE ASSEMBLY ONLY HAS ONE ADJUSTMENT SO BOTH BEAMS MOVE UP AND DOWN BY THE SAME AMOUNT. THIS APPEARS TO BE A DESIGN DEFECT. I FEEL THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD AS ONLY ONE OF THE HIGH BEAMS IS ILLUMINATING THE ROAD. *TR
