How to read a Volkswagen CC VIN — every digit explained

Every Volkswagen CC carries a unique 17-character VIN stamped at the factory. Each position is a code — together they spell out where, when and how your car was built. Here's exactly what every digit means.

FIG.02

4–8 · VDSCM826
9 · Check5
10 · YearR

  • WMI (1–3) — country & manufacturer. Tells you it's a Volkswagen and the country it was built in.
  • VDS (4–8) — model, body style, engine, trim & restraints. The 8th digit is the engine code.

Tires:pressure Monitoring And Regulating Systems11V312000

What's wrong. Takata recall. On a daily basis my car loses all electrical power and shuts completely off while driving on a city street, highway and has even happened while turning. It's a tremendous safety concern, as i have to stop in the middle of the road, put the car in park and try restarting. This has caused several car pile ups behind me. Vw stated they are unable to pay to have this recall fixed and stated that i would be responsible for replacing the fuel pump and fuel module. I am not able to cover these expenses. Gas pedal was rendering non-functional and in-effective. There was heavy soot/smoke from the exhaust primarily almost like fire and some smoke from under the hood, this is a new under warranty vw cc 2012 4 door sedan. Driving on the left lane with a semi behind me when this occurred. It created a very unsafe near miss incident. I am fortunate that a collision did not happen when i lost power to the wheels. I pulled off to an exit and when i floored the gas pedal, there was intermittent power stalling the vehicle to less than 5 mph. However, there was heavy soot/smoke from the exhaust primarily almost like fire and some smoke from under the hood, with parking lights on i drove 2 minutes and pulled to a parking lot. My vehicle was towed to a nearest vw dealership upon talking with vw road side assistance. Started having problems with the fuel tank at around 65,000 I had an extended warranty on the vehicle and around 80,000 they replaced the entire fuel tank… recently, I started smelling gas very strongly inside my vehicle and took it to a honest mechanic who was able to find the fuel pump which is located behind the backseats he told me the pump is sweating and there’s a puddle of gas in it and that’s why I have the strong smear smell of gas in my vehicle. He says that it’s not even safe for me to drive the vehicle at this time and at this time, I’m trying to buy another car because I have to keep the windows down, so I don’t pass out from the smell of gas … I called Appleton Volkswagen of Sanford as they switched out the whole fuel tank at 80,000. The vehicle has about 190,000 now … there was just a recall put out for the fuel pump for certain Volkswagen year 2015 and above, but the CC is not on this.? I I feel like it should be in the recall because my car is very unsafe to drive and I’m scared that I’m gonna blow up a fire of flames right now just driving it to the repair they’re not because this is very unsafe ……

Dealer states forward clutch and dual mass flywheel needs replacement based on diagnosis and mechanic experience as they cannot "check" these parts. They also state i need to replace injectors and have a "manual decarbon" procedure due to the direct injection system creating carbon deposits. These are apparently well known issue with this and similar vw models. The car has <100,000 miles and is 5 years old. These are not maintenance items per se and fall under the category of defective components/systems. All the electronics in the car turn on lights, radio, windows up and down, etc. It says to start put my foot on the brake as well which i obviously did and it still says the same error message. It happened 2 times 1st on 12/31/2019 but then started out of nowhere and worked fine for a few days and then happened again 1/04/20, however this time the problem persists.

Shook my head and said "i already bought the car and cars have been doing the incline costing a long time, what are you not telling me?" it seemed that he was avoiding what happened when we lost power. Hi, I’ve had my turbocharge replaced in October of 2020 at the Volkswagen dealership in Wichita, KS. Just recently my car started driving funny again such as not accelerating like it should with a slight whining noise. I can only get up to 25-30 mph then the whining noise starts up to where I have to take my foot off the gas, let my speed drop itself then proceed to accelerate again which is very dangerous. Since I had already experienced this problem not even 3 years ago I knew but I still went to get the car diagnosed and again it is the same exact problem not even 3 years later.

The DQ250 6-speed DSG (dual clutch) automatic transmission in my 2017 Volkswagen CC Executive has catastrophically failed at 37,768 miles. COMPONENT FAILURE: The mechatronic unit, the electro-hydraulic controller that manages all gear selection and clutch engagement inside the DSG transmission has failed. The transmission is available for inspection upon request. WHAT HAPPENED: Symptoms began with intermittent failure to engage gear after stopping at intersections and stop signs. The transmission would slip out of gear or refuse to engage, leaving the vehicle momentarily unable to accelerate from a dead stop in traffic, a dangerous condition with cross-traffic approaching. The condition progressed to include an audible whining and slipping noise during downshifts, consistent with inadequate hydraulic clamping pressure on the clutch pack. The transmission then lost the ability to engage reverse gear entirely. The vehicle was driven home in forward gears only and is now inoperable and parked. SAFETY RISK: On multiple occasions, the vehicle was unable to accelerate from a complete stop at intersections with active cross-traffic. Loss of reverse gear eliminates the ability to maneuver out of dangerous situations in parking lots, driveways, and streets. This vehicle is unsafe to operate. WARNING SIGNS: No warning lamps or dashboard messages appeared prior to or during the failure. The first symptom was intermittent hesitation and slipping when attempting to engage from a stop. The condition worsened rapidly over a short period until reverse was lost completely. DEALER/MANUFACTURER CONTACT: The manufacturer was contacted. A callback was promised within two business days and was never received. The vehicle has not yet been inspected by a dealer because the servicing dealer, a Volkswagen-authorized dealership, has permanently closed. The vehicle is awaiting tow to a specialist for diagnostic confirmation. MAINTENANCE HISTORY: At SM VW until it closed. Once at Indy Shop

This is a 2017 with 45,000 miles and the radio is defective in that it changes channels by itself and the voice command function does not work. The navigation does not work either. It is distracting when driving to have the channels change non stop. Vw advised it would cost $1,000 to replace. Due to mileage the car is no longer under warranty. A radio should not need to be replaced so soon. In addition, the headliner inside the car is coming down. That is something that should happen to a much older car, not a 3 year old car. Vw not taking responsibility.

Vehicle was parked, returned to vehicle and headlights were on, instrument panel lights were on, as well as airbag lights, brake lights, and e-brake light was blinking. The vehicle was unresponsive to the remote and i was unable to get inside the vehicle. It was towed to the dealership at which point they kept it for 5 days to attempt to replicate and resolve. They engaged their technical teams and could not determine the issue after 5 days. They've requested that i pickup the vehicle and advised if it happens again to bring it back. My concern is that this is an undiagnosed electrical/computer issue that could pose a safety issue if it happens while driving, particularly on the freeway at a high rate of speed. I simply want to ensure you're made aware of the issue and potential risk should this be something beyond just my vehicle. I also have videos of the issue as it was occurring that you are welcome to request from me. The dealership was also given access to the videos.

My 2016 VW CC (VIN: [XXX]) has a clock spring failure. I brought my car in to Riverhead Bay Motors on 2/12/2019, with the hope of diagnosing and fixing the part. They had to order the part, so only diagnosis was done. Diagnosis confirmed that the clock spring (in VW’s own words from the bill): “Upon further diag found clock spring defective”). I was told in conversations prior to bringing the car in, with corporate, if they identified a torn clock spring as the cause, a case manager would look into and consider if my car perhaps had a faulty part and the fix could be covered by Volkswagen. After many days spent waiting for the opportunity to speak to a supervisor, I finally was able to on 2/15/2019. Volkswagen is refusing to acknowledge that my clock spring issue is the same as what prompted: both a recall, and an extended warranty, and is peer to of an active investigation—escalated to an engineering analysis--by the NHTSA (EA18-003). They are insisting I pay out of my own pocket to replace their defective product. Since the supervisor was unwilling to give any info on who made the part and whether the relation was causal, I spent some time this weekend using the NHTSA as a transparent resource. What I have found is that the faulty part in my car is the same one that was involved in a previous recall, and the same one involved in a voluntary extended warranty—although my VIN is not part of either action. Much of my own research has involved the review of the many piecemeal responses to NHTSA Inquiry EA18-003. The component which failed is Part number: 5K0-953-569 AS. The part is supplied by Valeo (otherwise referred to as Valeo Robust), and appearing to be in the class CW50/2012---for the VW CC model years 2012-2016 (see below, Table one: Clock spring part identifier). According to confirmation with Michelle Stokes at Riverhead Bay Motors on 2/18/2019—part 5K0-953-569 AS is THE ONLY clock spring that is available to my car INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

When I put my car in drive (to move forward) from a cold start, the vehicle hesitates, does not respond to the accelerator pedal, and does not move. During this time, the transmission does not engage, and the vehicle shakes and produces a loud clunking sound from underneath. After that faulty start, the vehicle operates normally, until the next cold start (vehicle is at rest for 30 or more minutes). Here is an example that shows the danger of this situation. When I back out onto my street, and I put the car in drive, a driver behind me expects me to move. That driver is not expecting a stationary car (stalled, in park, or anything else like the situation I am describing). That creates a safety issue because the driver behind me may not slow down. That driver could then collide with my stationary vehiclle. That could result in injuries or loss of life, to me, or to the driver or passengers in the car that hit me. I spoke to a VW dealer about this, Cherry Hill Volkswagen. They looked up information, and then replied to me "that's normal for that vehicle". The problem is this. That's not normal for any vehicle. That's a bad answer. I have been driving for 50 years, and I have never had any vehicle that performed this way, and I don't know anyone who has. That means it's not normal. If the dealer said "many drivers who own the same vehicle as you do have reported the same problem", that makes it a frequently occurring problem. It does NOT make it normal. Because the dealer did not acknowledge a problem, there has been no effort to correct it. - If every driver who purchased a 2016 VW CC encountered this problem, then every one of those vehicles should have been recalled so that Volkswagen could repair the problem. - If some of the vehicles that were purchased had the problem and others did not, that proves that it is a correctable problem. If NHTSA is aware of this problem and has not directed Volkswagen to correct it, then you are not doing your job.

The vehicle in question has had over two years of unresolved engine and transmission problems. The vehicle has been repeatedly return to the dealership only to be told that what it was there for not to be the problem but other things have been found and thats the problem. After paying for that repair only to bring it back for the original complaint. This is the pattern with the engine leaking oil and the leak never found to the car not going above 10 mph. Wthin the last 5 months the car has been in the shop for the same issue of no power and rattling shaking transmission. Three to four weeks at a time. In the past the car has been returned to the dealership once a week for the oil to be check and filled to specs . Also within the past two years the entire engine has been worked on by the dealership and the transmission was blown up by a technician being careless in making a repair. In repair orders i have the major work that has been done on this vehicle.in talking to the dealership and volkswagen the only thing thats being said that the car is too far out of warranty. The issue that generates this complaint is that now volkswagen dealership has the car and it needs a engine and transmission and wants between $8,000-$11,000. This is a major problem because of the issue that have been having over the period of time. The consumer should not be carrying the burden of this type of repair because of the history of the cars in question (which is the volkswagen 2012 cc). All of the problems have occurred while the car was in motion. The events with this car started in the year 2016 and the problems have been constant evry since up until this current date.

Wednesday on my home i'm driving going about 35mph gearing down as i am coming up to a tole booth when i notice that brakes literally have shut off. I'm pressing the petal repeatedly as hard and as fast as i can to get them to work but they ended failing and i ran into someone and went through the tole booth and rolled stopped 80 yards after the crash because the brakes still did not work after the crash .with airbag not deploying. It was a very traumatic experience, i no longer feel comfortable in a vehicle i was so happy with moments before this happened.

On 01/14/2013 at approx. 6:00pm after driving up to a drive thru, i engaged the autohold on my 2012 volkswagen cc lux plus. After leaving the drive thru, i was waiting on a slight hill to drive across the highway to enter into my lane of traffic. The autohold had engaged and it was holding my position while waiting to pull into traffic. When i pressed on the accelerator, the vehicle unpredictably and rapidly accelerated from my held position. The car sped up from a dead stop across the state highway (maybe to 30-45 mph) in a very direct straight path. This rapid high speed happened so fast that i was not able to control the vehicle before it hit the curb across the highway, jumped the same curb and crashed into a 10?-12? Deep ravine at a 35-45 degree angle. I was in complete and total shock. An individual stopped on the highway and assisted me from the ravine and i was able to call for assistance. A police report was filed. This 2012 volkswagen cc lux plus has only 5,425 miles on it. It has been only serviced by volkswagen and no others. In the past this 2012 volkswagen had experienced a problem with the autohold at time of original delivery from the dealership (where it was purchase brand new). The sales woman was moderately confused to say the least with the sudden surge the car experienced when she was attempting to explain the particular feature of autohold. She indicated at that time, she did not know why it would have done that and just continued on to provide new car stuff. Besides the delivery incident and the accident, i have had two other brief minor acceleration (rev up) issues while the autohold was engaged. I never thought it was much to concern myself over as they were only what i would of thought of as slight surges for the two occasions. Each time the autohold was engaged the car wanted to accelerate, yet i was able to brake to stop the car.

2015 Volkswagen cc I was told that the ABS module has gone bad. Some of theses vehicles are on recall, mine is not. I was also told by the dealer that there is a national backorder on this part. I’m not sure what I can do at this point.

2014 CC

My vehicle start with the problem at 33kmiles. Now i'm at 37kmiles and it's happening daily. After starting the vehicle and putting it on drive, the brake will not work properly and started making a screeching noise. All of the warning lights on the dashboard lit up, the message center shows error with airbag, abs brake, vehicle stabilization...etc. I am afraid for my life, this vehicle is not safe to drive. I would stop and turn off the engine and restart the vehicle, sometimes that reset the lights and other times that does not help. The biggest concern is the brakes noises and the power steering gets unstable, and afraid the airbag might not work properly in case of an accident. I just update the airbag from the last recall. I can't drive with my baby in the car because of the issues.

The problem is more accute when brakes warm up a bit after driving on the freeway. Dont know what to do since vw customer service tells is ok.

At 8:40 am cst on 11/6/2012. While commuting to work at 55 mph road in the middle of freeway. I lost functionality on the gas pedal. The vehicle would not accelerate when engaging the gas pedal. They appear to be inconsiderate to the magnitude of the situation i dealt with and the impact and severity of the technical failure. I don't know if this systemic in vw cc. This technical failure can easily cause accidents. My near miss is a testament to it. *tr

2017 CC

Stepping on the accelerator does not always product motion. Dangerous situation when more acceleration is needed such as on an entrance ramp or passing other vehicles or having to accelerate to avoid a crash. This has been a constant since we purchased this car (new) in 2012. The dealer service department told us this a sport vehicle and there is not a problem with the car as long as we accelerate harder. The recall parts are still not available according to vw of orland park il.
