FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
44 complaints
The component that failed, according to Volkswagen, is the rollover valve in the gas tank. This issue caused large amounts of gasoline to leak and pool from behind the rear passenger wheel well, creating a significant fire hazard and risk of harm. The vehicle was inspected by a Volkswagen service center as part of the repair process, whereupon the Volkswagen service center documented that the issue was caused by a faulty rollover valve in the gas tank. There were no warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms prior to the failure.

I had a suction jet pump recall due on the car. I took it to the dealer to fix. Mind you, I have never had an issue with this car ever. Now about a week later from the car being in the shop I get an engine malfunction light that comes on due to the evap system. Vw dealership of cool springs has not worked with me on this at all and it is frustrating to say the least.

Car has been leaking fuel for over a year. Had to pay out of pocket to get it fixed and VW refused to refund cost of repairs even though there is now a recall over a year later acknowledging the issue.

Starting January 2023, I had issues putting fuel in my car (symptoms align with the recall issued this year). I took it to VW and paid their diagnostic fee for them to say there’s nothing wrong with the car (approx. $170) continued to drive the car and eventually due to the issue, my fuel pump went out and I had to replace it. (See attached image). This time, I took the car to a local mechanic who charged a $100 diagnostic fee. All of this was prior to the recall this year and I am hoping for reimbursement on everything I spent trying to resolve this issue.

July 30,2024 I own a Golf 2017. My suction jet pump has failed. I cannot drive my car because I can't put gas into it. I need my car for work. The recall does not have the part available and it seems there hasn't been a part to fix this for a very long time. I'm really at a loss. What are my next steps? Should I report this to the Better Business Bureau? So far I've been on Volkswagen Of America's phone wait for 40 minutes. I've already taken my car to a dealership to have this problem verified. There were no warning messages.

The water pump in these vehicles are known defects, with class actions resulting. My water pump has failed at less than 70k miles. This results in engine overheating and possible failure. Luckily I was able to get the car off the road.

I have gear shift trim that has peeled and is extermely sharp in my vehicle. This had led to cutting my hands multiple times while accessing the center storage compartment. This is a known issue with GTIs and other Volkswagen trim manufacturing, yet Volkswagen refuses to replace the part in my VIN. The relevant Service Action Code is 34J7.

Sunroof spontaneously shattered while driving down the highway. No collision or impact. Sounded like a gunshot. Had to immediately pull over, remove all of the glass in order to drive it at all.

Continual unidentified leak in the roof area. I've seen many reports of this same issue for the 2017 Golf Alltrack, specifically on incline.

MY CAR HAS 16500 MILES AND THE PANAROMIC ROOF DRAINS ARE NOT WORKING PROPERLY AND WATER LEAKED INTO THE BACK OF CAR. I DID NOT KNOW THERE WAS WATER IN THE CAR UNTIL I LOOKED INTO THE SPARE TIRE COMPARTMENT WHICH HAD QUITE A BIT OF WATER IN IT. THEN I SAW THAT THE HEADLINER WAS STAINED IN THE REAR OF THE CAR. THIS IS A HAZZARD BECAUSE THERE ARE WIRES IN THE WELL FOR THE STEREO SYSTEM AND COULD HAVE CAUSED ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS FOR THE VEHICLE. THIS NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. IT IS NOT UNDER WARRANTY. IT IS GOING IN FOR REPAIR END OF JUNE (EARLIEST APPOINTMENT THAT IS AVAILABLE).

Turbo Wastegate actuator rod/flap failure/seizure. VW dealership & Independent service center both diagnosed the issue as a seized wastegate actuator flap/rod. This is due to poor design and is a common issue on all 2015-2020 VW/Audi 1.8l TSI engines. This issue causes intermittent engine codes for "low boost" related codes. P00AF00 and similar codes without warning. A key cycle usually temporarily fixes the problem until under boost again. This prevents safe operation of the vehicle while on highways and freeways. Engine shaking & prevention of acceleration and shifting happens after the engine code occur and the car is put into a limp mode. It is unsafe to maneuver the vehicle to the side of the road during these events.

Thermostat Sensor Failure causing check engine light P00B7. Vehicle not reading the correct engine temp causing cooling fans to run at 100% and drivability concern. Dealer diagnosed the repair as replacement of the Thermostat/Thermostat Housing quoted at $1,635. The vehicle has not been inspected by any other party other than dealership. Check Engine line appeared, thermostat not reading proper temp, and cooling fans running at 100% speed. This is a well documented problem with my vehicle: https://www.reddit.com/r/GolfGTI/comments/drna5m/mk775_thermostat_housing_issue_and_coolant_loss/
Dec 26, 2023
My VW on two occasions experienced coolant / water pump system failures (May 2022 and August 2023), the second of which required full water pump replacement. These are identical to the class action lawsuit outlined on https://waterpumpsettlement.com/ (civil court case Civ. No.: 2:21-cv-11251-MCA-MF), though I am receiving difficulties with the settlement claim for unknown reasons. My vehicles water pump is identical to those outlined in the case, as the pump model numbers and OEM origin are identical. These two incidents posed a severe risk/hazard to both the vehicle and myself due to leakage and loss of coolant putting the car at risk of catatrosphic engine failure. It is becoming apparent that these should amount to a recall as the growing number of incidents keeps increasing.
Aug 08, 2023
The thermostat housing leaked all my radiator fluid across the front of the engine block. I have to refill the reservoir every 2-3 days in order to keep the coolant in the engine and to keep it from overheating. Low coolant lights came on at a stop light, to initially alert me of the problem. There's currently a class-action suit against VW for this and it's time to issue a recall.

driving down the highway at 70mph and what sounded like a gunshot inside the car. glass started falling on us driving down the road. the sunroof glass exploded. got pulled over and looked and the glass is literally blown outward not inward like something falling on it. the hole it bulged up and the glass from the hole was missing.
Jun 18, 2024
2017 VW GTI, incredibly common issue of the sunroof surround cracking and allowing water to leak into the electrical components and headliner of the vehicle. VW does not care to admit fault on this even though there are hundreds of documented cases about this issue. Less than a year out of warranty and now dealing with potential mold issues or worse, an electrical shortage problem that could cause a fire. Not sure how this can be seen in hundreds of cases from VW owners and they haven’t done anything about it. Major issue.

Driver's door latch failed and often will not latch the door closed. Door just bounces off the door frame lightly. Occasionally I've missed that this has happened and started driving with the door unlatched.

The contact owns a 2017 Volkswagen Golf Alltrack. The contact stated that while parking the vehicle and shifting to the park, the contact turned off the vehicle and the vehicle rolled backward. The driver depressed the brake pedal and activated the parking brake to stop the vehicle from rolling. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The manufacturer and local dealer were notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 170,000.

My car started to loose coolant around 50K. This is a common problem for MK7 Golf which is usually caused by failure of the waterpump housing. VW is aware of this issue since 2016 but never addressed this problem. I request a formal investigation of this issue and demand VW to recall the vehicles.

WITH LESS THAN 17,000 MILES AND WITHIN 2 WEEKS OF HAVING A 3YR/30K SERVICE PERFORMED, CAR SUDDENLY LOCKED UP ON HIGHWAY WHILE TRAVELING OVER 60MPH. DID NOT HAVE ENOUGH TIME TO PULL TO SHOULDER. IN PROCESS ALSO LOCKED UP BREAKS. AFTER 15 MINUTES , FOUND THAT BY HOLDING POWER BUTTON WAS ABLE TO GET WHEELS UNLOCK SO THAT I COULD IDLE TO A SAFER SPOT. DEALERSHIP DISCOVERED REAL DIFFERENTIAL LEAKING AND HAD FAILED. DEALERSHIPS WERE UNABLE TO PROVIDE TRAVEL ASSISTANCE/COMPENSATION (RENTAL) OR RETURN OF CAR TO MY AREA EVEN THOUGH I WAS OVER 150-200 MILES FROM HOME, CAR WAS BOUGHT NEW WITH EXTENDED WARRANTY, AND PART DELIVERY AND REPAIR TOOK 10 DAYS/7 BUSINESS DAYS.
Mar 15, 2020
I NOTICED A VIBRATION AT SPEEDS NEAR AND OVER 80 MPH. I TOOK IT TO THE VW DEALER WHERE I HAD PURCHASED AND THEY FOUND THE BOLTS WHERE THE DRIVER FRONT AXLE CONNECTS TO THE TRANSMISSION OUTPUT SHAFT WERE LOOSE AND BACKING OUT. THEY REPLACED THE BOLTS, BUT I'M STILL HAVING VIBRATION IN THE DRIVELINE. I'M WORRIED WHAT OTHER BOLTS MAY BE LOOSE OR WHAT ASSOCIATED PARTS MAY HAVE BEEN COMPROMISED AS THIS IS POTENTIALLY A VERY DANGEROUS SAFETY SITUATION FOR MYSELF AND ANYONE NEAR MY VEHICLE WERE THE AXLE TO COME APART AT SPEED.

Front suspension creaking noise. Front suspension creaking noise during suspension cycles (going over speed bumps or entering on an inclined surface) due to I believe Coil Spring not formed correctly and rubs against the perch of the strut or other issues/manufacturer defects with the front suspension. See also technical bulletin for 2012-2019 Passat stating similar issues: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2019/MC-10155776-9999.pdf I had originally reported a creaking noise to the dealer service center while my vehicle was still under warranty. The dealer claimed it was not able to recreate the sound, which I believe to be a false statement as it is very easy to recreate as it occurs every time I pull into my driveway or go over a speed bump. I stated this at the time however I suspect they didn’t want to replace under warranty or take ownership of the defect / recall. My vehicle is available for inspection upon request. I have not sought a second opinion from an independent service center yet. I believe this poses a safety concern for both myself and many others. It continues to creak because VW refuses to admit there is a problem. Please help, thank you!

Car developed a knocking sound from the front-left which occurred during any movement of the suspension, i.e. from all minor perturbations of the road surface rather than major dynamic actions such as breaking or steering. The dealer diagnosed worn out sway bar bushings. They replaced these (and potentially other suspension components - work details from the invoice can be provided upon request) but discovered during their work that the entire front subframe had failed with a major crack. Details can be seen in the attached photos (taken by the VW dealership - Ourisman of Bethesda, MD). I authorized the replacement of the front subframe with OEM components, at a cost in excess of $2000. I have owned the car from new (first registered in January 2018) and it has ~43,000 miles. The car has never been involved in an accident and has been used as family transport on standard road surfaces / driving conditions.

Feb 04, 2021
THERE ARE LOUD CREAKING/CRUNCHING NOISES COMING FROM ALL 4 CORNERS OF THE VEHICLE. SEARCHING YOUTUBE, IT IS A PREVAILING PROBLEM IN ALLTRACKS. IT SEEMS TO BE DEFECTING BUSHING AT THE TOP OF THE SUSPENSION. IT OCCURS WHEN THERE IS LATERAL COMPRESSION AND OCCURS EVEN AT LOW SPEEDS. THIS IS DANGEROUS AS THE ENTIRE CAR REST ON THESE BUSHING AND COULD CAUSE LOSS OF CONTROL WHEN THESE DEFECTIVE PARTS FAIL CATASTROPHICALLY.

LEAKING SUNROOF IS RUINING INTERIOR COMPONENTS, INCLUDING HEADLINER. MULTIPLE FIXES AND SERVICE BULLETINS COVERED UNDER WARRANTY HAVE NOT BEEN SUCCESSFUL. VERY CONCERNED IT'S GOING TO LEAD TO LARGER ELECTRICAL, BODY ROT, AND MOLD ISSUES, NOT TO MENTION COMPLETELY RUINING ANY VALUE THE CAR HAS. MOST RECENT PHOTOGRAPH UPLOADED WAS FOLLOWING A RAINSTORM ON 4/11/2021.

LEAKY SUNROOF TO DO INCORRECT REWORK IN PRODUCTION OF THE WELDING POINTS OF THE SUNROOF FRAME AREA. SPOT WELDS AROUND THE PERIMETER OF THE SUNROOF OPENING MAY BE TOO LARGE.* THIS PREVENTS THE OUTER SUNROOF SEAL FROM PROPERLY ADHERING TO THE BODY OF THE VEHICLE, ALLOWING WATER TO LEAK THROUGH THE SEAL. INSUFFICIENT CLEANING PROCESS PRIOR TO APPLYING OUTER SUNROOF SEAL. THE SUNROOF FRAME OPENING MAY HAVE BEEN IMPROPERLY CLEANED PRIOR TO APPLICATION OF THE ACRYLIC TAPE ON THE OUTER SUNROOF SEAL. THIS PREVENTS THE OUTER SUNROOF SEAL FROM PROPERLY ADHERING TO THE BODY OF THE VEHICLE, ALLOWING WATER TO LEAK THROUGH THE SEAL.

THIS PAST SPRING I NOTICED THE CAR'S HEADLINER WAS WET AND STAINED. IT THEN BEGAN TO DRIP COPIOUS AMOUNTS OF WATER INTO THE VEHICLE DURING HEAVY RAINSTORMS. THE CAR IS ONLY A YEAR AND A HALF OLD AND HAS 20,000 MILES. BUT THERE ARE WATER STAINS EVERYWHERE AND IT WILL BE A MOLD ISSUE SOON, I'M AFRAID. TOOK IT TO THE DEALER, THE CAR IS UNDER WARRANTY. THEY SAID IT'S A MAINTENANCE ISSUE, NOT A WARRANTY ISSUE BECAUSE THE DRAINS THAT RELEASE THE WATER FROM SUNROOF ARE ALL BLOCKED WITH DEBRIS. DEALER FIRST ASKED ME IF I HAD JUST SIMPLY LEFT THE SUN ROOF OPEN AND WAS VERY PATRONIZING, BY ASKING ME IF THERE WAS JUST A LEAF STUCK UP THERE, CALLING ME HUNNY OVER THE PHONE. I TOLD HIM NO, SOMETHING WAS WRONG AND WE DROPPED IT OFF. $600 TO CLEAR DRAINS. WE REFUSED BECAUSE WE FOUND MANY OTHER PEOPLE EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE SAME CAR AND THERE IS A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN FOR THE PROBLEM. WE READ THE VW HELPED COVER THE COSTS FOR MANY PEOPLE SO WE CALLED VW CUSTOMER CARE. I ASKED FOR A BUYBACK OR FOR THEM TO FIX THE CAR. THEY CALLED ME BACK SAYING THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO AND REFUSED TO ADMIT THIS IS A DEFECT IN THE DESIGN OF THE CAR. EVEN IF I JUST GOT THE DRAINS CLEARED, THERE WAS STILL DAMAGE DONE BY THE "MAINTENANCE" NOT BEING TAKEN CARE OF. "MAINTENANCE" THAT WE KNEW NOTHING ABOUT AND THERE IS NOTHING IN THE OWNER'S MANUAL ABOUT CLEARING THE DRAINS UNTIL AROUND 40,000 MILES. I WAS ASKED IF I PARKED UNDER TREES. WELL, YEAH, WE CAMP A LOT. THIS CAR IS ADVERTISED AS AN ADVENTURE CAR. I ALSO DON'T HAVE THE LUXURY OF PARKING IN A GARAGE. I'M A TEACHER. I WORK HARD TO MAKE CAR PAYMENTS, BUT I BOUGHT BRAND NEW CAR NOT KNOWING I WOULD NEED TO BE SPENDING HUNDRED UPON HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS TO "MAINTAIN" SUNROOF DRAINS. THE CAR IS CURRENTLY AT ANOTHER DEALER AND THEY WANT NUMBERS IN THE THOUSANDS TO FIX THE WATER DAMAGE.

2017 VW GOLF ALLTRACK: HAVE HAD THIS CAR FOR FOUR MONTHS NOW AND JUST HAD THREE DAYS WORTH OF RAIN HERE IN MICHIGAN. THE FRONT OF THE HEADLINER IS COMPLETELY SOAKED ON BOTH A-PILLARS AND AROUND THE OVERHEAD CONSOLE OF THE VEHICLE. DEALERSHIP SAID IT WAS MORE THAN LIKELY WELDS THAT DIDN'T GET SMOOTHED DOWN AND THEREFORE PINCH THE TUBES THAT DRAIN THE TROUGH IN THE SUNROOF AREA NOT ALLOWING IT TO FLOW BACK INTO THE OPENING IN THE CAR. IN OTHER WORDS, VW SOLD ME A CAR WITH A KNOWN DEFECT! NOW I HAVE TO TURN MY CAR IN FOR SOME UNKNOWN AMOUNT OF TIME, HAVE THEM TEAR THE INSIDE APART, TAKE THE CAR TO A BODY SHOP AND HAVE THE BODY SHOP GRIND THE WELDS DOWN SMOOTH, THEN INSTALL A NEW HEADLINER IN THE CAR. THAT'S ALL GREAT (NOT REALLY), BUT WATER IS INCREDIBLY DESTRUCTIVE, SO WHAT ABOUT THE WATER THAT'S RUN DOWN THE A-PILLARS AND GOTTEN IN TO THE INSULATION IN THE DOORS? OR THE WATER THAT RAN LIKE A FAUCET OUT OF MY OVERHEAD CONSOLE THIS MORNING WHEN I STARTED DRIVING THAT DUMPED ALL OVER MY ELECTRONICS AND TRANSMISSION COLUMN? WHAT ABOUT THE POSSIBILITY OF WATER THAT WON'T BE LOOKED FOR IN THIS APPARENT FIX OF A KNOWN PROBLEM THAT THEN TURNS INTO BLACK MOLD THAT I AND MY FAMILY BREATH EVERY DAY FOR THE LIFE OF THE CAR?! THIS HAS TO BE CORRECTED AS THERE IS NO WAY THIS CAR SHOULD HAVE BEEN SOLD TO ME AND MY FAMILY WITH A KNOWN DEFECT.

ON 10/17/17 AT 6:30 PM, I WAS DRIVING VERY SLOWLY IN SLOW TRAFFIC IN TOWN WHEN A MAN DRIVING IN BACK OF ME WAS LOOKING DOWN SLIGHTLY TO THE RIGHT AND DISTRACTED (WAS ON HIS PHONE ALTHOUGH HE SAID HE FELL ASLEEP) WHEN HE HIT THE BACK (REAR-ENDED) MY CAR. I HAD MY SEAT BELT ON. MY HEAD AND BODY THRUSTED FORWARD AND BACK AND MY HEAD HIT THE LOWER PART OF THE HEAD REST HARD BECAUSE THE HEAD REST AND SEAT ARE TOO TALL (I'M SHORT) AND THE HEADREST DOESN'T FIT MY HEAD. I SUFFERED A CONCUSSION, WHIPLASH, AND SIGNIFICANT PAIN. THIS IS THE 2ND ACCIDENT WHICH WAS EXACTLY THE SAME AS THE 1ST ACCIDENT ON 6/21/17 WHICH I PREVIOUSLY REPORTED TO YOU, VW OF AMERICA, AND DIRITO BROTHERS IN WALNUT CREEK. I SUFFERED A 2ND CONCUSSION AND WHIPLASH. BOTH TIMES, THE OTHER PARTY WAS AT FAULT AND BOTH PARTIES ADMITTED THEY WERE AT FAULT AND I DID NOTHING WRONG BOTH TIMES. I REQUESTED THAT VW RECALL THESE HEADRESTS AND SEATS AND REPLACE THEM WITH HEADRESTS AND SEATS THAT ARE ADJUSTABLE AND FIT PROPERLY FOR SHORT PEOPLE. MY REQUEST WAS DENIED DESPITE THIS BEING A SAFETY CONCERN WHICH CAUSED MY VEHICLE DAMAGE AND MY BODY WAS INJURED. I, AM, AGAIN, RESPECTFULLY REQUESTING A RECALL SO MY HEADREST AND SEAT WILL FIT PROPERLY AND I WILL BE AT REDUCED RISK FOR INJURY WHEN THERE IS AN ACCIDENT. BOTH TIMES, I FILED CLAIMS WITH MY STATE FARM INSURANCE CO. I RECEIVED MEDICAL TREATMENT BOTH TIMES.

Airbags, horn, cruise control and all other functions related to the steering wheel suddenly stopped working. Volkswagen has diagnosed the clock spring is defective and needs to be replaced. I’ve been quoted $712.00 for this repair. The replacement part is also on backorders with no clear indication of when it will arrive. Volkswagen will not supply a loaner car or any rental assistance and insists their customers drive a car without function airbags or a horn. This is a well known issue for Volkswagen and is a major safety concern for anyone who owns one of their vehicles. It needs to be addressed and fixed ASAP!

Panoramic sunroof drains leaked water into passenger compartment down the A pillar on the drivers side. Leak was intense and occurred during rain, even light rain or mist. Material covering the A pillar was soaked through, and water droplets were dripping from the pillar onto the driver and dashboard. Water soaked the gauge cluster electronics and airbag contained within the A pillar. The electronics continued to operate, and water did not immediately cause them to malfunction. No warning lights illuminated. The windshield would become foggy any time there was moisture outside and visibility was severely reduced even when using the defroster. This occurred for the entire length I owned the vehicle, even after multiple drain cleanings at a dealer/ technician, and inspections at a Volkswagen dealer. Volkswagen and the dealer I purchased the used vehicle from were uncooperative in fixing this problem, which began within weeks of my vehicle ownership. Volkswagen dealer service department admitted this is a known issue. I took the vehicle to be inspected and repaired, which did not fix my issue after multiple attempts. I have since sold the vehicle with the known defect at a large loss because I was afraid for my safety and the safety of my family.

THE CAR IS ONE YEAR OLD, AND THE PANORAMIC SUNROOF IS LEAKING. I CONTACTED VW AND SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT. THEY WILL NEED TO HAVE THE CAR IN THE SHOP TO SEE IF IT IS A STRUCTURAL ISSUE. THE WATER IS COMING IN ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE AND ON THE CENTER CONSOLE ABOVE ALL OF THE ELECTRICAL (LIGHTS, SWITCHES FOR SUNROOF, ETC) COMPONENTS. THE WINDSHIELD STAYS FOGGED UP WHEN DRIVING BECAUSE OF ALL OF THE MOISTURE IN THE CABIN. THIS AFFECTS VISIBILITY. VW SHOULD RECALL THIS VEHICLE TO REPAIR. A RENTAL CAR WILL BE COSTLY, AND VW HAS OFFERED NO LOANER TO ME.
Aug 04, 2018
SUNROOF LEAKING CAUSES EXCESSIVE MOISTURE INTERIOR OF VEHICLE SPECIFICALLY ON WINDSHIELD AND INSIDE OF WINDOWS. WINDSHIELD FOGGING PROBLEM ON START UP AND IS EXASPERATED IN HEAVY RAIN WHILE DRIVING HIGHWAY SPEEDS, MORE MOISTURE GETS INTO CAR. SUNROOF DRAIN HOLES ARE NOT CLOGGED AS VEHICLE IS LESS THAN 4 MONTHS OLD. WATER EVIDENCE IS SEEN AS STAINS DOWN BOTH 'A' PILLARS AND HEADLINER ABOVE PASSENGER AND DRIVER FRONT SIDE WINDOWS.

UPON FURTHER INSPECTION THERE WAS NO ROCKS OR ANYTHING IN THE CAR. FURTHERMORE THE GLASS SEEMED TO BE PUSHED OUTWARD TOWARD THE OUTSIDE WHICH MADE ME THINK IT EXPLODED FROM DEFECT.

Fuel evaporation canister started leaking raw fuel after a strong gas odor was present before hand. The fuel suction pump failed and pressure built up in my gas tank. I was at risk because the presence of raw fuel near ignition sources can cause a fire. Verified at Volkswagen dealership. No warning signs by car when issue first started. Only sign of problem before raw fuel leaking was poor car performance, car stalled and I could not put more than a gallon of gas in the fuel tank.

My car started sputtering randomly while I was driving and loosing power. Then when I tried to gas up my car, the car wouldn’t accept the gas. When I got home, gas started overflowing out of the tank all into my garage. It also soaked the whole wheel well with gas. There was no check engine line that came on. There is a current recall for this same issue which VW said is a suction pump problem on other GTI’s but not my car. There are tons of over videos on Facebook/YouTube of the exact same thing happening to them. I had the problem fixed at the dealer but it cost 3500 dollars. I still have all the receipts from the repair cost and I would like to be reimbursed since they expanded the recall but my car hasn’t received this recall even though it is the exact same issue.

The 20Y6 recall for VW Golfs is exactly what my 2017 VW Golf GTI experienced. I am surprised the 2017 model year is not included. I did not feel safe driving my car with a failing fuel suction pump causing engine issues in traffic. When I finally made it home there was smoke coming out of my exhaust and fuel spilling out of the rear passenger wheel well.

JUNE 16,2017 , I PUT THE CAR IN REVERSE AND ATTEMPTED TO LEAVE THE PARKING SPACE. ALL WHEEL BRAKES WERE LOCKED/THE CAR STALLED. 2-3 MINUTES LATER, THEY FREED UP. ON FEB.15,2018 WHILE WAITING IN TRAFFIC ON RT.580 IN DUNEDIN, THEY LOCKED UP AGAIN. 2-3 MINUTES LATER, THEY FREED UP AND I SHUT OFF MY EMERGENCY FLASHERS. MARCH 28 ,2018 , DITTO IN MY DRIVEWAY AFTER JUST BACKING OUT OF THE GARAGE. TWO VW DEALERS ON MAR.22 AND AGAIN ON APRIL 5, THEIR COMPUTERS COULD FIND NO PROBLEMS WITH THE BRAKING SYSTEM. MY SCAN OF THE INTERNET ALL POINTED TO THE MASTER CYLINDER AS THE PROBLEM. *JS *JS

I've been experiencing a recurring issue with my vehicle where the EPC light frequently activates. When this happens, the car significantly reduces its speed, making it difficult to drive safely. I've noticed this situation over the past six to eight months, and it typically requires me to pull over. After turning off the vehicle multiple times, I'm usually able to reset it and drive normally again. I'm seeking advice on how to address this problem effectively.

Car will stutter and stall. Usually after multiple short trips (5 stops and starts) in a short period of time (2 hours). 1 min/1000 gauge is fluttering around 0.75 on gauge when stopped. When car stalls it can be when pulling out at a stop sign. It will stall when gas is applied and then I need to coast around a corner. Occasionally the car will stall out when driving between 20 and 30 miles per hour. When this happens it is extremely dangerous because I am driving in traffic and need to pull over to the side of the road. I had this problem fixed at the dealership once before in 2021 and it cost $559.08 then. I was told at the time that gas sometimes has sediment in it and I should not get gas at grocery store pumps where the price is lower. I should stick to better gas stations. I now am getting my gas at the same two better places all the time hoping that the problem wouldn’t happen again. The problem started two weeks ago and is following the same pattern. I scheduled a service appointment again for them to check my car but it never displays any codes and it is difficult for them to recreate the stalling. My car is almost at 85,000 miles when my warranty runs out.

Passenger window (front) and locks not working. Suddenly stopped working on my low mileage car. The wire harness had to be replaced. Similar recall for the VW Atlas that would also effect the airbag because of corroded wire contacts. Brought to VW dealer and they determined (after 2 weeks) the wire harness had to be replaced. Not functioning doors and locks and possible airbags are a huge safety issue.

THE INFOTAINMENT SYSTEM RANDOMLY RESETS DURING USAGE REGARDLESS OF WHAT MODE THE SYSTEM IS IN (BOTH IN TERMS OF DRIVE MODE OR MUSIC LISTENING MODE). DURING A RESET, ALL ACCESS TO ADVANCED SAFETY FEATURES, DRIVE MODE SELECTION, TRACTION CONTROL SELECTIONS, ARE DISABLED. THE SCREEN GOES COMPLETELY BLACK AND THEN TURNS BACK ON USUALLY WITH A DIFFERENT INTERFACE MODE ACTIVATED (BLUETOOTH VS RADIO, FOR INSTANCE). ALL STEERING WHEEL CONTROLS ARE DISABLED DURING A RESET. THIS FREEZE AND RESET CAN OCCUR WHILE MOVING OR WHILE STATIONARY. ADDITIONALLY, THE RE-VIEW CAMERA, WHILE IN REVIEW, DOES NOT WORK IF THE RESET TAKES PLACE WHILE BACKING UP. THE REVIEW CAMERA ALSO INCONSISTENTLY WORKS AT ALL. THE RESET HAS TAKEN PLACE AT BOTH SURFACE STREET SPEEDS BUT ALSO AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS.

I WAS BACKING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY AND I FELT SOME SORT OF STRINGY-LIKE METALLIC RESISTANCE AS I TURNED MY STEERING WHEEL (SIMILAR TO A RUBBERBAND HELD TAUT AND BEING PLUCKED). The Clock Spring Assembly on my vehicle failed. In May 2023 Volkswagen of America issued an extended warranty coverage notice for the part. After doing some research and determining the part failure, I called my local VW dealer to report the problem. They told me they would be happy to schedule an appointment to look at my vehicle but they could not schedule my vehicle for service for at least a month. Considering this issue to be an extreme safely issue and realizing I did not want to drive around in my vehicle for over a month without air bag protection, I had my vehicle repaired at an independent service facility. I have had several communications with VW of America (attached) and they refuse to reimburse me for this repair.

Vehicle EPC light comes on dash. OBD code is "P00AF00 - Turbocharger Boost Control "A" Module". This error causes sudden loss of power and loss of driver assistance (forward collision assist, blind spot assist, cruise control, etc.). Vehicle is available for inspection upon request. Upon checking turbo charger, the wastegate actuator arm is seized up, keeping the wastegate from functioning properly, failing to maintain boost pressure and entering limp mode causing sudden loss of power and acceleration. This has happened while on the roadway, attempting to merge into highway traffic, change lanes & pass other vehicles. This caused the vehicle behind me to close the distance very rapidly almost resulting in multiple rear end collisions. The vehicle has not been inspected by others, yet. The only warning that came on was when it first did it. I had a sudden loss of power, a warning beep from the dash and the EPC light illuminated. It fixed itself after a few moments then occured again. It is now stuck with this error and will not operate accordingly.

I am resubmitting a previous complaint as I have learned and experienced more problems with the vehicle since my initial complaint. My 2017 VW GTI only has 57K miles and I have been taking it to the dealer for proper and timely maintenance. My fuel system is showing signs of failure. Based on research I have been doing online ( I could be wrong) it seems the Volkswagen golfs have a part inside the gas tank that fails and starts causing a safety hazard. My gas tank builds up pressure and literally expels gas out from somewhere. I started finding a small pool of fuel behind my car when I park at work or at home. I have since parked my vehicle and will be taking it into the dealer for inspection and repair. I read online that the 2015 models have had a recall for a part called a “suction pump” in the gas tank. I think it is safe to assume that my 2017 is having the same issue as the 2015s. Although my year make and model has not had a recall for the unsafe issue. My car is not safe to drive currently. I cannot put gas into the tank, it throttles down and up sporadically and it literally burps and expels gas from somewhere under in the back of the vehicle and the refueling neck. Please look into this issue as I am not the only person who has experienced this. Thank you.

The contact owns a 2017 Volkswagen Golf R. The contact stated that the fuel gauge remained on Empty after fueling the vehicle. Additionally, fuel accumulated in the EVAP system, and leaked out from the fuel tank onto the rear passenger's side wheel. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but informed the contact that recalls were VIN specific and there was no recall associated with the VIN. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V647000 (Fuel System, Gasoline, Engine and Engine Cooling) however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The failure mileage was approximately 38,000.

The vehicle had been making mild clunking noises for some time (at least 2.5 years) during some combinations of turns/bumps. When took to mechanic in January 2020, the sound would not reproduce during test drive, so problem was not diagnosed. Clunking sound became more pronounced over time, until on 8/27/21 while driving a neighborhood road, there was a loud clank, as if some metal part came loose. Then there was very loud clunking, as if a metal part was knocking around loose - more pronounced when turning or going over bumps. Upon inspection by a mechanic later in the day, the sway bar had come loose due to one of the bolts on the driver side sway bar bracket had come out. Both this mechanic and later, the Volkswagen dealer mechanic, said this was very odd, since they normally only see sway bar damage when a car has been in an accident. My car has never been in any kind of accident. Sway bars help ensure a vehicle doesn’t roll too much when handling turns. Aside from safety, sway bars help prevent lopsided wheel alignment and work to maintain an overall better grip on the road. A faulty sway bar puts the vehicle at risk for rolling during turns. My belief is that there was something faulty about the sway bar mounting bracket or bolt which explains the mild clunking I heard prior to deterioration (more frequent clunking) and ultimate failure (on 8/27/21). I have a write up of the inspection and repair from the dealer. I also have photos from the dealer prior to the repair.

While driving in light, medium or heavy rain, water makes it into the front and back of the cab of the vehicle. When it comes in through the front water drips on my wife while driving which is distracting. When it comes in through the back the humidity builds and fogs the windows which makes it unsafe to drive. My local VW service center tells me the drain tubes are clogged. I have taken my vehicle in five times for clogged drain tubes. Our service advisor Robert Dominguez confirmed the problem. Our service technician Paul Macfarland inspected the vehicle and components. There were no warning lamps, messages or other symptoms prior to the failure.

ON OR ABOUT 6.13.2019, MY 2017 VW GOLF ALLTRACK SE LEAKED WATER THROUGH THE LIGHT IN THE ROOF, BEHIND THE VISOR (DRIVER'S SIDE) WHILE STATIONARY. EACH TIME THE HEADLINER WAS STAINED, WATER SAT IN THE LIGHT AND IT LEAKED ALL OVER MY LAP. AS OF 6.11.2020, IT IS STILL LEAKING. THIS APPEARS TO BE A KNOWN ISSUE AND A CLASS ACTION SUIT IS PENDING. VW CLAIMS THIS IS A REPAIR DEFECT, NOT A MANUFACTURE DEFECT AND ONLY OFFERS TO COVER 75% OF A $12K REPAIR ON A VEHICLE THAT HAS 34K MILES, BEEN MOSTLY GARAGE KEPT OR COVERED AND ALL MAINTENANCE COMPLETED ONLY AT VW DEALERSHIPS. I HAVE FILED SEVERAL COMPLAINTS WITH VW. THEY STATE THAT SINCE VEHICLE IS OUTSIDE OF 3 YEAR WARRANTY (3YR/36K MI), THEY ARE OFFERING GOODWILL. I DO NOT FEEL IT IS FAIR OR RIGHT TO HAVE TO SPEND EVEN $1 TO REPAIR A KNOWN STRUCTURAL DEFECT RELATED TO THE SPOT WELDS AND SUNROOF, WHICH WERE LIKELY THE CAUSE OF EACH AND EVERY LEAK THAT THE CAR HAS EXPERIENCED. ADDITIONALLY, THE CAR LIKES TO SUDDENLY ATTEMPT TO ACTIVATE THE COLLISION WARNINGS FOR NO REASON - AFTER FURTHER RESEARCH, THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE AS WELL, POSSIBLY RELATED TO WATER DAMAGE. VW OF AMERICA REFUSES TO TAKE ANY ACTION BEYOND THEIR OFFER OF 75% COVERAGE OF COSTS AS GOODWILL ON A CAR THAT WASN'T BUILT RIGHT TO BEGIN WITH AND FRANKLY, IS A RISK TO THE SAFETY OF MY TWO CHILDREN, 4 & 2, AS A SPOT WELD IN THE SUNROOF IS SURELY A SIGN THAT IT'S LIKELY NOT THE ONLY STRUCTURAL DEFECT OR FAILURE OF THE VEHICLE. I HAVE A 2017 GOLF R EQUIPPED WITH DSG TRANSMISSION, AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING AND ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL. OCCASIONALLY THE CAR WOULD MAKE A CONTINUOUS AND PERIODIC CLICKING NOISE THAT CAN LAST FOR A FEW MINUTES WHEN IN MOTION AND WHEN BRAKE IS NOT APPLIED. AS SOON AS I STEP ON THE BRAKE, THE CLICKING STOPS. WHEN BRAKE PEDAL IS RELEASED, THE CLICKING COMES BACK. THE PROBLEM STARTED IN MAY/JUNE 2018 WHEN THE CAR HAD APPROXIMATELY 14000 MILES, AND HAS BEEN DOING THAT EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE SINCE THEN. I BROUGHT IT TO A VW DEALER IN JULY 2018, BUT BECAUSE THIS IS AN INTERMITTENT ISSUE, THEY WERE UNABLE TO FIND OUT THE ROOT CAUSE. THERE WAS NO ERROR CODE EITHER. HOWEVER THEY SUSPECTED THAT THE NOISE WAS COMING FROM CERTAIN RELAYS IN THE ABS / BRAKING SYSTEM, WHICH IS CONCERNING AS IT COULD POTENTIALLY BE A SAFETY ISSUE. VEHICLE IS A 2017 VW GOLF ALLTRACK S WITH A 6-SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION; LESS THAN 2 WEEKS OLD WITH ~400 MILES ON ODOMETER AND A LITTLE OVER 1/4 TANK OF 87-OCTANE GASOLINE. ISSUE OCCURRED AT APPROXIMATELY 10PM ON AUGUST 25TH, 2017. VEHICLE WAS ACCELERATING AWAY FROM A RED LIGHT AT A HIGHWAY INTERSECTION CROSSING ON A SLIGHT DOWNHILL GRADE. MANUAL TRANSMISSION WAS SHIFTED FROM 1ST INTO 2ND GEAR DURING ACCELERATION, AND THE VEHICLE PROMPTLY LOST ENGINE POWER, POWER STEERING AND BRAKES NEAR THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSECTION. MY WIFE COASTED THE VEHICLE ACROSS THE INTERSECTION AND WAS ABLE TO MOVE IT TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WITH THE HELP OF PASSING MOTORISTS WHO WERE KIND ENOUGH TO STOP AND HELP. THE "ENGINE" LIGHT AND "EPC" LIGHT WERE BOTH ILLUMINATED ON THE DASH. DURING THE 45 MINUTE WAIT FOR A TOW TRUCK, MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS WERE MADE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. THE ENGINE WOULD TURN OVER AND SOMETIMES "CATCH", BUT WOULD NOT START OR IDLE. HEADLIGHTS, BLINKERS, WIPERS, ETC. REMAINED FUNCTIONAL THROUGHOUT THE ORDEAL. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE VW DEALERSHIP AND REMAINS THERE FOR DIAGNOSTICS. THERE IS NO IDENTIFICATION OF A CAUSE FOR THIS ISSUE AT THE MOMENT. IT IS WORTH NOTING THAT THIS ISSUE IS A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN FOR MY FAMILY AND MOTORISTS AROUND US: A NEW VEHICLE SUDDENLY AND UNEXPECTEDLY LOOSING POWER AND ALL CONTROL FEATURES IS ENTIRELY UNACCEPTABLE, AND COULD VERY EASILY LEAD TO A SERIOUS ACCIDENT.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 VOLKSWAGEN GOLF. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CHECK ENGINE INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD MISFIRED IN ALL CYLINDERS; HOWEVER, THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE DEALER CLEARED THE SYSTEM AND WARNING SENSORS AND ADVISED THE CONTACT TO ALLOW THE VEHICLE TO WARM UP BEFORE DRIVING. IN ADDITION, THE FAILURE RECURRED TWO WEEKS LATER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT IT NEEDED A SOFTWARE UPDATE; HOWEVER, AN UPDATE WAS NOT AVAILABLE AT THE TIME. THE FAILURE OCCURRED A TOTAL OF THREE TIMES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 1,300. ..UPDATED 05/15/17 *BF *CN
