EPC light came on and I could smell a strong odor of gas. The car immediately began to de-accelerate and I could no longer use the gas pedal. I was on a highway road with lots of curves and limited shoulder, this could have been deadly. The vehicle also could have started a fire. The same exact issue occurred with this vehicle in September of 2022 where a safety recall was issued for fuel rail bolts. It has been less than two years and the issue has occurred again.

The fuel rail system came loose, causing fuel to spray in engine bay, as well as loss of power to propel vehicle forward. Original recall for 2016-2018 Volkswagens Jetta’s fuel rail coming loose due to bolts loosening over time was opened in April 2020. Car was taken to Brandon Tomes Volkswagen of McKinney as soon as recall was received. A few years later, the fuel rail system still came loose and the car now is at my personal mechanic shop due to Brandon Tomes saying the had seen the car for the recall. I do not trust Brandon Tomes with my vehicle at this point in time to do fix the issue, if they even actually did anything when the car was in for the recall when the recall was initiated. If they did, and the bolts still came loose, then the original recall may need to be investigated and to see if there are multiple more units affected by the recall that have been seen for the recall and put as recall completed, only to have the issue arise at a later time.

Safety recall on fuel rail bolts was originally performed by dealership on 30Aug21. However, while driving to work 14May24 the car dumped a full tank of gas and had to be towed to dealership for repair. The technician found the fuel rail bolts missing.

Dealer does not have parts to fix recall. Received fuel rail recall notice in March. It is late May and have called dealer multiple times with same response. Recall is for fuel rail that may leak.

AT AROUND 5AM ON FEBRUAURY 7, 2025 I WAS AWOKE BY MY ROOMMATE SCREAMING MY CAR WAS ON FIRE. WHEN I WENT OUTSIDE I SEEN MY NEIGHBOR AND ROOMMATE ATTEMPTING TO PUT OUT A FIRE IN THE ENGINE OF MY CAR. MY CAR HAD BEEN PARKED FOR AT LEAST 5 HOURS AND WAS NOT RUNNING. MY NEIGHBOR STATED THAT HE LOOKED OUT HIS WINDOW AND SAW FLAMES AND RAN ACROSS THE STREET WHERE HE STARTED TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE WITH MY WATER HOSE UNTIL FIRE AND POLICE ASSISTANCE ARRIVED. THERE WAS NO ONE IN THE CAR, OR AROUND THE CAR, THE FIRE SPONTANEOUSLY STARTED. I HAD NO PRIOR WARNINGS THAT WOULD BE CAUSE FOR CONCERN OF AN ENGINE FIRE. THE CAR BURNT TO TOTAL DESTRUCTION. IT IS LOCATED AT MY ADDRESS. IT IS AVAILABLE FOR INSPECTION ON REQUEST. I AM FINANCING THE CAR FROM SHAWS AUTO SINCE 08/23/2024. SHAWS AUTO HAS BEEN NOTIFIED OF THE INCIDENT. THE FIREMEN STATED THAT IT WAS CAUSED BY A MANUFACTURER DEFECT. I AM UPLOADING PICTURES OF MY CAR. I AM STILL ACQUIRING OFFICIAL INCIDENT REPORTS. ATTEMPTED TO UPLOAD PHOTOS OF VEHICLE POST FIRE BUT TO NO AVAIL. THIS INCIDENT HAS TAKEN A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF MENTAL, PHYSICAL, AND SPIRITUAL ENERGY IN ORDER FOR ME TO STAY INTACT. THIS IS MY FIRST OPPORTUNITY AT BUYING A NEWER CAR THAT I WAS UNDER THE EXPECTATION THAT I WOULDNT BE UNDER CONSTANT WORRY THAT SOMETHING WAS GOING TO GO WRONG WITH MY CAR COSTING ME MONEY I DONT HAVE. I NEWER CAR SHOULDVE BROUGHT ME AT LEAST A FEW YEARS USE BEFORE CONCERN FOR ANY KIND OF WEAR AND TEAR ISSUES ARISE. THIS ENGINE FIRE WAS NOT MY FAULT OR CAUSE THEREFORE I SHOULD BE COMPENSATED WITH A CAR OF WHICH ICAN RELY ON. I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED OF ANY RECALLS ON MY CAR AND WAS NOT AWARE OF ANY UNTIL AFTER THE FIRE. HAD I KNOWN THERE WAS AN URGENT RECALL I WOULD HAVE CORRECTED IT.

My check engine line came on; code P05A0. A scan showed that it is my active radiator shutter assembly that is causing the error. My car only has 26K miles, and it seems strange that it would be having an issue. When I took my car to the dealership, the service rep told me it is a very common issue. It is also going to cost around $900 to repair. My car is perfectly drivable (the service rep confirmed it), but I won't be able to pass emissions in AZ with my check engine light being on. The shutters remain open at all times. I can hear it open and close and reopen sometimes when I start my car or while I'm driving, but it will always remain open. My dealership is so backed up that I'd have to leave my car for several days before they could even get to it. I do not have the time or money to do the work, so I didn't leave it for it to be repaired. I have found others on VW forums that have gotten the same error message at about the same mileage I am at. Your organization released a technical bulletin for this issue for 15-16 Jettas, and I appreciate it if you could look to see if the issue continued through the 17 models.

Car won't start. I have had to call AAA every other day because my car is not starting. It won't start unless I drive it every day. One month after buying the car I was having trouble with it starting. Purchased a new battery,in2020.Drivetime should be investigated for taking advantage of a senior citizen.having had cars in the past I have never had anything like this VW Jetta.It was not because of the weather either.

PROBLEMS WITH FRONT ASSIST. I WAS TOLD THIS FEATURE WAS ON MY VEHICLE AND VERIFIED THAT IT WAS AT THE TIME OF SALE. UNFORTUNATELY IT DOES NOT EVER DETECT A VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. I COULD BE IDLING AND HIT A BRICK WALL OR GOING 65MPH DOWN I95 AND A VEHICLE SUDDENLY STOPS IN FRONT OF ME EITHER EVENT NOTHING HAPPENS. THIS SYSTEM DOES NOT WORK AS DESCRIBED AND THERE ARE NO WARNING LIGHTS ON MY DASHBOARD AND THE FRONT ASSIST SYSTEM IS ENABLED EVERY TIME I START THE VEHICLE. THE FACT THAT THIS SYSTEM DOESN'T WORK AT ALL IS VERY DISAPPOINTING AS IT WAS A MAJOR SELLING POINT OF THE CAR

The catalytic converter malfunctioned and is defective. My vehicle is within 8 years and under 80,000 miles and Volkswagen of Toms River will not replace or address the safety concern as they are required by law to replace it. The vehicle will hit 8 year on January 1st and they are trying to stallmate me until it is out of warranty

When driving the vehicles power dropped suddenly, especially above 3000 RPM. The actuator arm on the waste gate for the turbo charger broke. Error P2263 was seen on an OBD reader. A quick search online seems to show this is a prolific issue with Volkswagen 1.4 TSI engines between 80,000 and 90,000 miles. My wife and daughter could be seriously hurt down a highway onramp and the power cuts out.

I CALLED VOLKSWAGEN TODAY TO ASK ABOUT THE FUEL RAIL REPAIR AND WAS INFORMED THEY HAVE NO SOLUTION NOR A TIME FRAME OF WHEN THEY INTEND TO BE ABLE TO FIX IT. I PERSONALLY DON'T FEEL SAFE ALLOWING MY SON TO CONTINUE TO DRIVE THE CAR. The contact’s daughter owns a 2017 Volkswagen Jetta. The contact stated that the vehicle was running rough and seized. The contact stated that his daughter smelled fuel that was leaking from the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who stated the intake valves were fouled due to the vehicle sucking air and gasoline at an incorrect ratio. The mechanic replaced the intake valves, the parts to the valve, and part of the fuel line; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was towed to the dealer who stated that the intake valve was fouled, and the previous mechanic had not performed the repair properly. The vehicle was not repaired because the dealer wanted the contact to undo the work the previous mechanic had performed before performing the recall repair. The contact stated had not received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V648000 (Fuel System, Gasoline). The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 108,000.

My daughter was rear-ended in her 2017 Jetta while stopped. The other driver was going approximately 45 mph, forcing my daughter into the car in front of her as well, causing significant front impact and damage to the vehicle. The air bag did not deploy. The amount of impact seems as though the airbag should have deployed. She suffered a mild concussion and whiplash from the impact.

The contact owned a 2017 Volkswagen Jetta. The contact stated that while her daughter was driving at approximately 40 MPH, the vehicle struck a deer. The contact's daughter lost control of the vehicle, crashing head-on into a tree. No warning light was illuminated. The air bags did not deploy. The contact's daughter was shaken up, but she had no visible injuries and did not receive medical treatment immediately following the crash. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to the tow yard and was deemed totaled by the insurance company. The contact stated that a few weeks after the crash, her daughter had approximately 80-90 seizures and was receiving medical treatment at the hospital. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was opened. The manufacturer informed the contact that the vehicle operated properly by not deploying the air bags because the rate of deceleration criteria were not met during frontal impact. The failure mileage was approximately 140,000.

The only airbag that went off in the vehicle during a collision was the steering wheel airbag none of the side airbags deployed the driver hit his head on the window in the car there were no warning lights on prior to the accident to indicate that there were any malfunctions the police did get called to the scene and vehicle was towed insurance representatives have not inspected vehicle yet.

On Saturday March 25th I was in an accident in my 2017 jetta. A Tahoe last second lane changed into the front end of my jetta. The impact was at 30mph but no air bags deployed. When starting the car now after the accident there are airbag warnings all over the dash. The air bags failed to deploy properly in an accident.

July 2024 my 2017 VW JETTA SEL PREMIUM [XXX] at 153,253 miles without notice had TRANSMISSION FAILURE where a major oil and transmission fluid leak occurred. I was sitting at a red light, the light turned green I tried to go and ended up flooding the engine thus preventing the car to ever move again. I experienced a total loss on a vehicle who’s PZEV WARRANTY just expired and VW OF AMERICA REFUSED TO ASSIST ME. Vehicle has only 10,000 miles. Developed unidentified leak. Shortly after the car was on the freeway in 6th gear and started smoking and revving the engine. Car would not shift into gear and the car stalled. Clutch, flywheel, throwout bearing, and pressure plate were completely destroyed. Towed to dealership.

UPON PLACING IN REVERSE, THE ENGINE BOGS DOWN, LOWERING THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE AND CAUSES A BAD VIBRATION. SHIFTING INTO ANY OTHER GEAR FROM REVERSE CAUSES A HARD JERKING MOTION AS IF IT HAS TROUBLE RELEASING FROM REVERSE GEAR. The fuel rail bolts on the car loosened, one sheered off. Fuel poured from the front end of the car. When the car was started, to be placed on a flatbed the car caught on fire. The car is currently at a mechanics, but has not been repaired. The car could have easily caught on fire while being driven or started any time before or after it actually caught on fire, it was only taken care of quickly as the tow truck driver had a fire extiguisher, we do not carry one in the car. The car had the recall work done in 2021 in Tyson's Corner VA. The dealer refuses speak to us and states that the recall was done and therefore not their issue. The issue was confirmed with the new mechanic. There was one EFC light on the night it started leaking fuel.

My mother owns a 2017 Volkswagen Jetta. Recently, the car has developed a strong and constant smell of gasoline, both while driving and when parked. This is extremely concerning, as it appears to be a fuel leak, which poses a serious fire and safety hazard. Upon researching, I discovered NHTSA Recall 20V648000, which affects certain 2016–2018 Jetta vehicles due to loose fuel rail bolts that may cause fuel to leak. My mother’s car is experiencing the exact same symptoms, yet her VIN is not included in the recall, and Volkswagen has refused to help because the recall does not technically apply to her vehicle. We spoke directly with VW Customer Care, and despite clearly describing the fuel smell and matching the recall symptoms, they told us the repairs would be out-of-pocket. My mother does not speak English and relies on me for help — and she cannot afford the cost of repairs for something that is clearly a known defect. The vehicle is undrivable due to the risk of explosion or fire, and we are desperate for help. I’m submitting this complaint in hopes that NHTSA will investigate and expand the recall to include additional VINs. There is no reason a vehicle with an identical issue should be excluded simply because of a VIN batch.

ABS UNIT COMPLETE was malfunctioning per volkswagen's inspection. When this malfunctions it can lead to a loss of its anti-lock braking function, potentially causing wheel lock-up during braking, longer stopping distances, and reduced vehicle control, especially on slippery surfaces. Additionally, other driver assistance features relying on the ABS module, like traction control and automatic braking, may also be affected. Other 2017 models had a recall on this part but I was told my VIN did not. There were warning lights on dash when this occurred. This was confirmed by VW.

AS I BRAKED FOR A STOP SIGN IN MY TOWN, THE CAR BEHAVED AS IF ON ICE OR SNOW, IT WASN'T. THE LIGHT WITH THE SKIDDING CAR, THE ABS LIGHT, AND THE AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON. AS I CONTINUED, IT HAPPENED TWICE MORE ON MY WAY HOME.

I WAS DRIVING DOWN A BUSY CITY STREET, GOING ABOUT 30 MPH. I NOTICED THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME WAS STOPPED FROM 100 FEET BACK AND I SLAMMED ON MY BRAKES. MY CAR DID NOT STOP, IT DID NOT SLOW DOWN AT ALL. THE WEATHER WAS WARM, THE ROAD WAS DRY AND IT WAS LIKE TRYING TO STOP ON AN ICY ROAD AND I REAR ENDED THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. MY AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY EITHER. THE OTHER CAR HAD MINIMAL DAMAGE TO HER BACK BUMPER. SHE WAS INJURED, I HAD MINOR WHIPLASH.

AS I DROVE HOME ONE NIGHT, THE FUEL GAUGE WAS SHOWING EMPTY WHEN I KNEW THAT THE TANK WAS HALF FULL. THIS IS DANGEROUS FOR A REMOTE, RURAL DRIVER WHO NEEDS TO KNOW HOW MUCH GAS IS LEFT IN THE TANK. NOTHING OUT OF THE ORDINARY WAS PRESENT FOR THIS OCCURRENCE. AFTER I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND TURNED IT BACK ON THE GAUGE WAS BACK TO NORMAL. I WILL BE MONITORING CLOSELY FROM HERE ON OUT.

The seat belt anchor will not grip, click and lock right away. It takes several times before it locks. Afraid it will become dislodge while traveling. Auto dealer will have to remove and replace entire seat belt mechanism and was advised not to drive the vehicle due to safety concerns.

IT JUST SIMPLY COVERING THE LIGHT SENSOR AREA BY THE PALM OR ANY CLOTH TO IMITATE THE DARKNESS WHILE IGNITION IS ON. Battery died. Went to dealer in another vehicle to purchase a battery. Installed the new battery and now have an airbag light. Called dealer to learn how to reset airbag, and they said it requires a special tool to reset along with a service charge ($80 to $160). Should an airbag system require special tool and/or knowledge when the car is required to have them? Everything else is operating normally, but airbags are out of service.

My Volkswagen Jetta shut off driving down interstate 99 due to major fuel leak (fuel rail bolt broke) I saw Volkswagen had a recall for fuel rail bolt coming loose after time. I called Volkswagen states recall was completed in May 2021 I bought the car May 2025. I asked Volkswagen rep if they would repair it as this is the same issue as the recall obviously it isn’t corrected. This could have been very bad with fuel leaking along a major highway one thing ignited and car would have went in flames. My son could have been seriously injured or even killed! EPC light came on as this was happening. The car is at my local mechanic who advised me to call Volkswagen due to an open recall for this issue. Volkswagen rep states I could take it to Volkswagen dealer to have it looked at but advised it would be at my expense. The only way anything would be done or reviewed if the car caught on fire or someone died. I would like this looked into as I believe vw should pay for my car to be fixed. Since the known problem was not fixed. I don’t have any documentation as my car is still in the process of getting fixed.

I HAVE NOTICE SINCE PURCHASING THE CAR IT HAS ISSUES WITH MILEAGE AND CORRECT HAS TO MILEAGE. I SPOKE WITH BE WHEN FIRST GETTING IT AND THE SERVICE WORKER ACKNOWLEDGED THE ISSUE BUT DID NOT FIX IT. IT IS STILL A PROBLEM NOW. YOU CAN FILL THE TANK UP GO A MILE DOWN THE STREET AND IT WILL SAY YOU HAVE DRIVEN 30 MILES. EVEN WHEN THE VEHICLE IS IN PARK IT WILL SAY YOU ARE DRIVING AT LEAST 2 MILES PER HOUR. I HAVE A VIDEO THAT BETTER PLACES THE SITUATION AS WELL. THIS VEHICLE ALSO HAVE THE CD PLAYER RUN HOT, THE LIGHTER PORTS DO NOT WORK AGAIN, AND THE ANTIFREEZE LIGHT HAS COME ON EVERY YEAR SINCE PURCHASING THIS CAR. I FEEL THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG ELECTRICALLY AND ENGINE WISE.

I drove my vehicle to Wawa to get gas before work. As I was driving up to the pump my car shut off and would not start. I have low mileage and have kept up all routine maintenance. This could have been worse as I could have been driving on a main road or highway and the vehicle shut off completely and would not start again.

I am continually have issue with my headlights bi-xenon ds3 bulbs going out. I have replaced the ballast and the bulb w oem parts and the issue continues. My day runner LED lights work on the passenger side but the HID bulb does not work. I have no low beam. Everything else works. Same issue on drivers side until I replaced the entire housing unit. Regardless both lights DO NOT REFLECT IN DISTANCE making it EXTREMELY HARD TO SEE AT NIGHT forcing me to have to drive w my fog lights on just to see.

Front left headlight has no power going to it. Rear right tail light has no power going to it. Third, brake light has no power going to it. Wind shield washer pump has no power going to it. Both rear doors do not lock. This issue is all connected with each other because it fixed itself. Once and they all came back on together and then it went back out.

My 2017 vw Jetta S front left coil spring broke in half & the sharp ends could have puncture my tire while I was driving. I was checking it over as soon as it made noise, & discovered that it had broken and didn’t drive it & bought 2 new ones and replaced them both and got our state inspection. I got on the internet and saw where the Jetta 2019 & some other models had been recalled, and wondered why my car hasn’t been, no one got hurt over this, but I as a former mechanic I keep my cars well taken care of, if this was someone else’s who just get in & drive it they could of caused a accident. My car is garage keep with 60,000 miles on it. Also we have 2017 vw all track which I checked it over and no broken coil springs on it as of now, I would like you to consider paying for my parts and repairs as I feel that it was the failure of the part and not abuse. WHEN I PULLED OUT INTO TRAFFIC AND PUSHED ON GAS THE CAR WOULD NOT GO IT SOUNDED AS IF THE ENGINE JUST SHUT OFF THE CAR LITERALLY HAD LOST ALL POWER TO IT I PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE AND THE EPC LIGHT WAS ON AS WELL AS THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. I HAD MY BABY WITH ME THAT JUST HAD SURGERY DAY BEFORE AND I WAS TERRIFIED BECAUSE I HAD NO IDEA WHAT WAS HAPPENING. I GAVE IT A FEW MINUTES AND STARTED THE CAR OF WHICH AT FIRST SOUNDED AS IF IT WASN'T GOING TO START. I WAS ONLY A COUPLE MINUTES FROM MY HOUSE AND HAD NO RESOURCES TO HELP AND COULDNT WALK WITH MY SON. GOT THE CAR BACK TO THE HOUSE BUT IT AGAIN DID THE SAME THING AND CONTINUED TO DO THE SAME WITH SOUNDING LIKE IT DID NOT WANT TO START. I purchased my car used. In the past 3 years I have had problems my headlights became increasingly dim I checked my fuses and it had blown so I replaced it. Upon doing so my windshield wipers that had just been working no longer moved. But my headlights worked. Then my passenger window would not work with the drivers door controls. I can put it up but not down. I have never had the front collision warning work. Nor the lane departure the tire info used to work. Now it doesn’t. I toook my car into be caked and I was told that everything except the windows and wipers was fine. The wipers had a blown motor. Replaced it and they are good the window motors are dying? And need to be replaced. Also when in cruise control it will accelerate for just a second before slowing to the speed set at. Love the Volkswagens family has had four others and never had smyproblems

The fuse that controls the exterior lights (tail, marker,etc.) and interior lights at first interment would blow/burn out. Sometimes after a few days or a few months for the past year. In the past few weeks the fuse blows immediately once replaced. The car was brought to a VW dealer a year ago who changed the fuse and ran a diagnostic. It was brought back 4-5 months later and they again changed the fuse and ran a diagnostic. The second time was not given a slip indicating it was was there for the service and was not charged. While I understand no charge there is no no proof of service. As the fuse controls all the lights the car is dark at night.

Problems have been confirmed by: Independent auto repair center and Vista VW of Pompano Beach, FL. As far as safety sometimes the engine goes into limp mode during driving a few minutes after starting. Having to pull over quickly to get out of the flow of traffic. To stop the engine after a few minutes it does restart.

We own a 2017 Volkswagen Jetta. While driving at 55 MPH, he heard a loud Bang noise and experienced difficulty steering the vehicle. There was no warning light illuminated. We pull over to inspect the vehicle, We did not see any problems with the tires and they looked ok. But there was smoke coming up from the front passenger side. We were able to drive the vehicle another mile before more smoke was coming from under the passenger side. When we pulled over again we realized the right front tire on the passenger side was shredded. We called AAA. replaced the tire with the spare and went home. We called the VW dealer and took the car in. They said it was a front suspension coil spring that broke and punctured the right front tire.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 19V615000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, STEERING). WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL BECAME DIFFICULT TO DEPRESS AND FAILED TO STOP THE VEHICLE. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE. THERE WERE NO INJURES AND A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE CONTACT CALLED NEW MOTORS SUBARU (8670 PEACH ST, ERIE, PA 16509, (814) 868-4805) AND INFORMED THEM OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. A RANDOM NOTICE APPEARS ON THE DASH DISPLAY, "DRIVER ASSISTANCE BUTTON IS DISABLED". THEN WINDSHIELD WIPERS RANDOMLY ACTIVATE, DOOR LOCKS CLICK LOCKED AND UNLOCKED, AND CRUISE CONTROL DISABLES ALL WHILE DRIVING. HIGH BEAMS NO LONGER FUNCTION AND OCCASIONALLY ALL ELECTRIC DISPLAY, RADIO SOUND, AND LIGHTS GO BLACK WHILE DRIVING. YOU MUST PULL OVER, SHUT OFF THE CAR, AND WAIT APPROXIMATELY 5 MINUTES BEFORE RESTARTING TO RECOVER TO NORMAL. VOLKSWAGEN SERVICE CLAIMS NOTHING IS WRONG WITH THE CAR BECAUSE IT DOESN'T SHOW UP ON THE DIAGNOSTIC REPORT.

I HAVE A VOLKSWAGEN JETTA GLI 2.0 TURBO. IT CURRENTLY HAS 55,000. I AM HAVING A PROBLEM ON INITIAL START WHERE BY IT RUNS ROUGH, SOMETIMES STALLS AT IDLE AND SOMETIMES STALLS ON INITIAL ACCELERATION.
