The Volkswagen dealership advised they could not fix the airbag recall. They said that the parts are on extreme back order, they can’t schedule an appointment for me to get it fixed, and they have no time estimate on when it can be fixed. I’m very concerned since the airbag recall lists that the driver airbag can explode and cause severe injury or death.

Heater core has clogged after replacement in less than 12 months. This is the 4th occurrence of this failure on this vehicle. Failure has the risk to overheat engine. VW Technical Service Bulletin has been modified multiple times, but still doesn't fully resolve the issue.

Emissions system on engine has premature failures following the TDI scandal modifications, causing the coolant system to fail prematurely. Have had 2 heater cores clogged in the past 3 years, resulting in EGR failures, impacting emissions and potential engine overheats.

there is a TDI/AEM Emissions service action CODE: 23Z3 for this year TDI, that requires Dealer Software 'fix" , I have owned the car for a year now , with no contact from VW. Also, have read that there is a Recall on the Heater Cores getting clogged, and causing fogging windsheilds, driving hazard. And no contact from VW ?

While driving on a highway, I heard a mild noise under the hood and things went chaotic, the coolant temperature went high above nominal, the speedometer went crazy, the brakes weren't working, the steering got locked (Not able to move freely) and I literally felt dreadful, I was lucky enough that there were no vehicles front or back of me, otherwise it would have been a fatal incident. I managed to use my hand brakes to slow down and slightly move the vehicle to the shoulder. Oil was leaking underneath the engine at its first look. The vehicle then had to be towed to the dealership. The dealership inspected and confirmed that they found a hole in the engine block and they came back to me and mentioned the whole engine block and also the turbo has to be replaced. The vehicle was right after a fully recommended service from the dealership. no warning or other symptoms appearing.

Heater core failure Have had the heater core replaced 2 times at a dealership and have had it worked on at other dealerships The heater core is a know problem with this volkswagen model due to the block being casted in sand and not being cleaned out properly This problem with the heater core is a issue i think needs to be addressed and poses a serious problem for people who live in states with freezing even negative temperatures like I do (iowa) The repair cost of the heater core is thousands of dollars

Manager Fabio at the pompano Volkswagen service indicated over the phone and in email that the vehicle is safe to drive however on the Volkswagen webpage it indicated it’s not safe to drive. I have not had the recall repair performed cause the same local vw refuses to provide a loaner for the time being repaired. This dealership poses a serious risk for drivers and consumers cause they are misinforming the public. I contacted Volkswagen care and spoke to Lisa which she was pretty incompetent to resolve the issue.

I have been trying to fix my car from the recalls two of them that they have currently for my car for which I need a temporary card while the repairs are being completed and Volkswagen in Pompano with the manager, Fabio have refused to assist me with this issue The recall is none of my issues is there company issues? They should be responsible for it and provide a temporary car while the car is being in service for those recalls. In this way, Volkswagen has refused to repair those service calls

My heater core for this vehicle is malfunctioning. This is making my heat not work, which in the middle of the winter can be problematic to my health and the health of my passengers. VW issued a recall on the diesel version of my car, which is gas, but did not extend to the gas version.

I was turning the steering wheel in my vehicle and heard a crunching/clicking sound. After checking what the issue was, I was told that it was the clock spring which was not covered under the warranty or a recall as per the dealership. My airbag light is now on and may not be functioning properly. My horn no longer works along with any of the functions in my steering wheel such as my radio and phone connection. I was also told that the faulty clock spring could effect other electronic functions in my vehicle. There were no warning lights prior to the malfunction of the clockspring.

A faulty clockspring in the steering wheel failed so the driver air bag and the horn do not work. The car can’t pass a safety inspection. This is a faulty part that the NHTSA issued a recall for some years back (I believe in 2015). The replacement part has been back order for upwards of 9 months for 1000s of VWs in the US. If the cars cannot pass a state safety inspection there should be a safety recall issued immediately.

The clocksping in the steering wheel is broken, but the part has been backordered for over a year. The broken clockspring makes the horn and buttons on the steering wheel unusable and the airbag will not deploy.

I belive the clock spring has malfunctioned on my car, the air bag light won't go off and the horn does not work. This has put my safety at risk because twice last week a car almost side swiped me and I have no horn. I called the dealer and they said my particular model isn't covered under the recall but It says volkswagen passat models 2010-2014. I have not taken my car to the dealership yet. The airbag light and horn stopped working at the same time about a month ago and I have replace the the fuse and relay switch and the air bag light is still on and the horn still doesn't work.

Clock spring is broken, and no one has replacement parts. They have been backordered with Volkswagen for MONTHS. Air bag, horn, and steering wheel radio control do not work. Won't pass safety inspection.

2014 VW Passat: EPC light and Engine light went on, 1/11/2022. Car stalled. Called AAA and waited awhile. Tried again and car started so I drove.... 0.4 miles and it happened again. AAA driver said it wasn't the battery (lights were still on). Towed to my mechanic. He changed the oil and gave me a new battery. I drove 600 miles roundtrip the next day. Then, on 1/22/2022 same thing happened. EPC light, Engine light went on and Car stalled. The fix: I needed a new Fuel Pump Control Module. Interestingly enough, my OTHER VW Passat (2006) had a recall on the Fuel Pump.

Catastrophic failure of high pressure fuel pump sent metal shards into my fuel system on my vw tdi 2014 diesel car . Unknown high dollar repair costs. This is a known issue with this make model year and engine but when I call vw customer care they say my specific car isn’t covered. I don’t understand how that is possible. I also found an extension to cover this exact issue published by NHTSA.gov and yet vw still says my car isn’t covered and I have to foot all the bills. Please help

Vehicle engine abruptly stopped running on roadway. No prior symptoms. Would not restart although starter properly engaged. MIL light did not illuminate prior to stoppage. BlueDriver device showed no stored codes. Tow required. VW dealer service department was backed up and stated they could not even begin diagnosis for 2 to 3 weeks. Independent service technician diagnosed problem as failure of fuel pump control module and replaced the module.

My vehicle has a transmission coolant leak, which is common for some of the 2014 Passat. Not pretty sure if it is due to the faulty O-ring recalled for some of 2014 passats.

I had just had the engine replaced on my 2014 Volkswagen Passat TDI 13 miles previously and on my first drive upon getting my car back I had an error code “transmission overheated” and I lost power while driving and the check engine light also illuminated. The transmission cut out almost immediately when the overheating message illuminated on the dashboard. It then illuminated a wrench where the drive indication is not the dashboard and would not allow selection of any gears. I had the transmission inspected by the dealer and they aren’t sure what happened and that it does indeed need a new transmission. The fact that I lost the ability to drive the car immediately after the light came on while driving seems dangerous to me and a transmission with 63,000 miles and 64 degrees F shouldn’t overheat. It is a DSG transmission and I have read online of several other owners experiencing similar situations of the transmission having faulty parts and overheating. I also reached out to Volkswagen of America and they said there isn’t anything they can do as the car is out of warranty (I believe the warranty for the transmission was 60,000). I had pointed out to Volkswagen that the transmission is cooled by the engine so a brand new engine 13 miles ago and then the consequent overheating and terminal failure seems rather odd to me. Had I been driving on the freeway instead of 40 mph the situation could have ended significantly different then it did.

The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked in the garage, he noticed a fluid leak on the floor underneath the vehicle. The contact was later informed by the dealer that it was a transmission fluid that was leaking from the vehicle. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be diagnosed and he was informed that the transmission oil cooler needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and informed of the failure. The contact was then informed that the vehicle was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V182000 (Power Train). The failure mileage was approximately 59,000.

Called the dealership at commonwealth motors and all other dealership to take care of the recall as that is the only reason why I am a unable to pass inspection . Dealer ships all around said the part for the takata airbag recall is not in stock and will not be available till December 2025

The wheel clock spring in the steering column is making loud noises and the horn has stopped working. The airbag light has come on now and the only solution is replacement of the wheel clock spring to make the vehicle safe for the driver. Should be covered under the recall of 2014 VW Passats

No warnings of the issue until none of the controls were working - now an air bag light January 29, 2020 - 82227 miles, no air bag, no horn, no steering wheel controls. brought to dealer - says there is a known issue with the clock spring and replaced it no charge. August 11, 2021, 123221 miles, no air bag, no horn, no steering wheel controls. brought to dealer - says not covered. the first clock spring lasted 80,000, the second one even more faulty - lasted barely 40000.

YESTERDAY, AS I WAS TURNING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY, I HEARD AN UNUSUAL CLICKING NOISE COMING FROM MY STEERING WHEEL. I DROVE TO WORK (APPROX 2 MILES FROM MY HOME) AND PARKED CAR. WHEN I STARTED MY CAR 8 HOURS LATER, MY DASH SCREEN READ "ERROR AIRBAG" AND THE AIRBAG LIGHT WAS ON. THE CLICKING NOISE IS STILL PRESENT BUT DOESN'T OCCUR EVERY TIME I TURN THE WHEEL... ONLY SOMETIMES. THIS MORNING,(ERROR LIGHT STILL ILLUMINATED) AS I WAS PULLING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY, I NOTICED MY CONTROL FUNCTIONS ON STEERING WHEEL WERE NO LONGER WORKING. I AM TERRIFIED THAT MY AIRBAG WILL DEPLOY. MY VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN INVOLVED IN ANY ACCIDENTS AND I AM THE ONLY OWNER OF THE VEHICLE. MY VEHICLE IS NOT PART OF THE TAKATA RECALL BUT THE ISSUES I AM HAVING SEEM VERY SIMILAR.

CAR GAS PEDAL WAS STUCK AND CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE GETTING UP TO 58 MPH AFTER PRESSING ON BRAKES LIGHTLY THE CAR CONTINUED TO GO FASTER AND FASTER. AS I WAS GETTING CLOSER TO AN INTERSECTION, THAT WAS RED, AND IN FEAR OF GETTING HIT CAUSE THE GAS WOULD NOT SLOW DOWN I SLAMMED ON BRAKES AND HOPED IT WOULD STOP THE CAR BUT THE CAR LOST CONTROL HIT A CURB AND HIT A FIRE HYDRANT IN THE FRONT MIDDLE OF CAR, THE CAR FLIPPED OVER AND NO AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION PRIOR TO ACCIDENT AND IT WAS ON A HIGHWAY THEN I TURNED ON A SIDE STREET GOING 58 MPH DUE TO GAS PEDAL BEING STUCK, I THEN LOST CONTROL OF CAR AFTER HITTING BRAKES TO MAKE THE CAR SLOW DOWN. TAKATA RECALL I HAVE BEEN RECEIVING RECALL NOTICES FOR MY 2014 VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT FOR THE PAST YEAR YEAR. I MADE AN APPOINTMENT WITH MY VOLKSWAGEN DEALER IN MARCH OF 2018, BROUGHT THE CAR IN SO THEY COULD FIX THE RECALL. AFTER TAKING THE DAY OFF, AND WAITING FOR THE CAR, I WAS TOLD THAT THE DEALERSHIP DID NOT HAVE THE CORRECT PART TO FIX IT, AND THEY COULD NOT COMPLETE THE REPAIR. I WAS TOLD I WOULD BE CONTACTED AS SOON AS THEY RECEIVED THE PART. LAST MONTH, I CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP TO INQUIRE ABOUT THE RECALL AND WAS TOLD THEY STILL DID NOT HAVE THE PART. I CONTACTED VOLKSWAGEN, THEY PUT ME IN TOUCH WITH ANOTHER DEALER, I CONTACTED THAT DEALER. THEY ALSO DID NOT HAVE THE PART. AGAIN I WAS TOLD, WE WILL CONTACT YOU WHEN WE HAVE THE PART. THE HEATER CORE BECOMES CLOGGED DUE TO EXCESSIVE FLUX USE IN THE HEATER CORE CONSTRUCTION. CAUSING NO HEAT OUTPUT ON DEFROST OR THROUGH VENTS. VWOFA HAS ACKNOWLEDGED THIS AS AN ISSUE AND OFFERS AN EXTENDED WARRANTY ON THE HEATER CORE, HOWEVER, THERE IS A 4-6 BACKORDER ON THE REPLACEMENT HEATER CORES. THIS IS DANGEROUS WHEN DRIVING IN WINTER CONDITIONS AND COMING UPON FREEZING RAIN/SLEET OR SNOW THIS CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO BECOME UNSAFE TO DRIVE AND POTENTIALLY LEAVING YOU STRANDED IN BAD WEATHER. I was taking an exit ramp onto the highway when my car just started accelerating on its own. I pulled onto the highway and was cruising at 55 mph. The car then jerked a little and started to accelerate past 60 then to 70. I pressed the brakes and nothing happened. My car then accelerated to 80 mph. I continued pressing the brakes to try to slow down but nothing happened. Then I heard a loud crack sound and all of a sudden the car started to slow down. That is when I realized it had actually shut off. So I pulled to shoulder and had it towed to a mechanic shop. It turns out the road hazard that I ran over was probably what saved me from serious injury or death. It busted my oil pan and that is what caused the car to shut off.

The contact owns a 2014 Volkswagen Passat. The contact stated that while driving a 40 MPH, the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact had the vehicle towed to an independent mechanic where she informed the mechanic that she had to top off the oil reservoir with 1 to 2 quarts of oil every two weeks. The mechanic informed her that the vehicle was consuming an excessive amount of oil and referred her to the dealer for assistance. The vehicle was then towed to a dealer where she was informed that the upper timing chain cover and transmission oil cooler needed to be replaced. Upon investigation, the contact discovered NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V182000 (Power Train) which she linked to the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and she was informed that her vehicle was not included in the recall. The vehicle had yet to be repaired and remained in the possession of the dealer. The failure mileage was approximately 149,000.

WHILE DRIVING THE CAR THE EPC LIGHT CAME ON. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY DETERMINED THE OIL LEVEL WAS SO LOW THAT NO OIL WAS SHOWING ON THE DIP STICK. DEALERSHIP ADDED 3.8 QUARTS ITS AND NOTED THEY SUSPECT BASED ON MY HISTORY OF TIMELY OIL CHANGES THAT THE ENGINE IS CONSUMING OIL. THE LOW OIL INDICATOR LIGHT NEVER CAME ON. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS AT THE DEALER, THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED OF TWO ADDITIONAL UNKNOWN OPEN RECALLS ON THE VEHICLE. WHILE DRIVING FROM THE DEALER BACK TO THE RESIDENCE THE ELECTRONIC POWER CONTROL (EPC) WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE 5 IN THE LA AREA AND WITHOUT WARNING, MY CAR STARTED JERKING AND LOST POWER. I WAS STUCK ON THE FAST LANE WITHOUT BEING ABLE TO RESTART MY CAR IN FRIDAY AFTERNOON RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC. I HAD MY CAR TOWED TO A VW DEALERSHIP AND THE DIAGNOSIS CAME BACK AS METAL IN THE FUEL SYSTEM. I WAS TOLD THIS WAS DUE TO THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP (HPFP) FAILING. WHAT WAS MOST DISTURBING WAS WHEN I WAS INFORMED THAT TO FIX THIS PROBLEM, THEY WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE FUEL SYSTEM, COSTING ME $7,500. MY CAR IS 3 YEARS OLD AND HAS 75K MILES SO I WAS BLOWN AWAY! I CALLED NUMEROUS MECHANICS AND ALL TOLD ME THEY'VE SEEN SIMILAR PROBLEMS ON VW AND AUDI VEHICLES. I WENT ONLINE TO DO SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND A NUMBER OF FORUMS WITH VW CUSTOMERS WITH IDENTICAL PROBLEMS. THE DRIVER DOOR LATCH. WHEN IN FREEZING TEMPERATURES, THE DOOR LATCH WILL NOT OPEN/CLOSE. WHEN UNLOCKING/LOCKING THE CAR, YOU CAN HEAR THE DOOR LATCH MECHANISM TRYING TO UNLOCK/LOCK BUT WILL NOT. ALL OTHER DOORS ARE WORKING APPROPRIATELY. I'VE HAD TO CLIMB THOUGH THE PASSENGER SIDE TO ATTEMPT TO OPEN THE DRIVER DOOR WITH EXCESSIVE FORCE. IF I AM ABLE TO OPEN THE DOOR FROM THE PASSENGER SIDE, IT WILL THEN NOT SECURELY CLOSE AND LOCK. HOWEVER, THERE HAVE BEEN MULTIPLE INSTANCES WHERE I CANNOT GET THE DOOR OPEN-THUS RENDERING ME WITHOUT TRANSPORTATION/USE OF MY CAR. THERE WAS ONE INSTANCE LAST WINTER SEASON, ON A FREEZING MORNING, WHERE I HAD TO OPEN MY CAR DOOR THROUGH THE PASSENGER SIDE. I WAS ABLE TO CLOSE AND LOCK MY DOOR, SO I DROVE TO WORK. HOWEVER, WHEN ROUNDING A CORNER WHEN TURNING, MY DRIVER DOOR SWUNG OPEN. THANKFULLY, MYSELF AND NO ONE ELSE WAS HARMED. I THEN HAD TO HOLD MY DOOR CLOSED WHILE DRIVING THE REMAINING 1/4 MILE TO WORK. THE LATCH ISSUE ONLY HAPPENS IN FREEZING TEMPERATURES TO THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR. IF IT WARMS LATER THE SAME DAY, IT WILL THEN WORK APPROPRIATELY. DURING THE INSTANCE WHERE MY DOOR OPENED-WHILE DRIVING TO WORK THERE WAS NO DOOR OPEN ALARM SIGNALING IN THE CAR, NOR CONTINUOUS NOISE OF THE LATCH MECHANISM TRYING TO LOCK. I HAVE TAKEN MY CAR IN 11/11/19 TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUE AND OTHER MAINTENANCE,, WHERE THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN ADMITTED TO THIS BEING A COMMON COMPLAINT OF THIS ISSUE/SCENARIO AND THAT VW HAS COME OUT WITH AN UPDATED PART. IT WAS REPAIRED BY NISSAN OF SOMERSWORTH, NH ON JUNE 29, DURING A REAR BRAKE REPAIR, THE LEFT COIL SPRING WAS FOUND TO BE FRACTURED. REPAIR NOT YET DONE. I THINK IT IS MORE THAN A COINCIDENCE THAT BOTH FRACTURE WITHIN A 3 MONTH PERIOD. THEY WERE POORLY MANUFACTURED. CURRENTLY THERE IS A RECALL FOR OTHER VW MODES HAVING FAULTY REAR COIL SPRINGS. I THINK THIS MODEL AND YEAR REQUIRES A RECALL AS WELL.

There has been an excessive oil consumption in this vehicle , and reading other reports there maybe an issue, also this vehicle has been part of several recalls previously and I am concerned and I don’t feel safe to drive it . Bought my car in November 2019 from an individual after bout 6 months i noticed that my car would slighty cut out when slowing down or cominv to a stop but it wasnt often til bout another 6 months that it began to cut out when slowing down and stopping more and aggressively and it would die then it does it just idling and even when im driving at a low speed as long as i stay at a higher speed ot isnt as bad theres no warning or check engine lights that come on at all when it dies sometime i dont even know it did until i see thr red battery light illuminated car will start back up but if i dont give it high speed it again will cut out aggressively and die if im going 40mph in mid drive it does it. Ive had thr spark plugs changed oil changed thr cam position sensor changed the alternator and battery check they were fine i do however sometime after turninv my car off hear the fuel pump still on so i have to turn key over and back off for it to go off it throws no coded an last mechanic said it did ok aftet clearing all codes but wasnt sure if it would fix it whivh it didnt ive seen online car blogs of anothers with same year make an model having same issue and some said it was the fuel pump control module/fuel pump there is a recall but my car is not under it its dangerous risking driving because any slow speed or having to stop slow doen to turn my car will stall and shut off instantly which can lead to accidents its said this is an issue among same year make an model but cars like mine arent under the recall for the fuel pump issues it needs to be addressed please thank you

After having parked the car long enough to eat dinner out, I pulled out onto the main street and the car engine showed clear signs of distress, sputtering, missing and ultimately going into what seemed to be limp mode. I was able to pull off the main lanes before the car died and would not re-engage after three attempts to restart. On the third attempt, the car stopped attempting to crank and the dash lights all began to blink until the only extra light that was left was the coil (glow plug indicator). We were left stranded in the street for a while until we could safely exit to push it out of the road and to a safe place. I later had the car towed to my mechanic where the issues were accessed and diagnosed. The causation of the failure is a combination of the first fuel pump failing and disintegrating then dispersing medal shards throughout the fuel system and ruining it entirety. I have never had any indicators or issues with this vehicle. There were no prior warnings or problems with the car. I was very blind sided and stranded in the road then felt forced to put myself in harms way to get it pushed out of danger and prevent an accident with another vehicle.

WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEED THE VEHICLE SUFFERED A SUDDEN AND CATASTROPHIC FAILURE OF THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP. THE VEHICLE HAS ONLY 43K ON IT AND WAS JUST PURCHASED AFTER RECEIVING THE TDI UPDATE 3K MILES AGO. THE FUEL PUMP FAILURE OCCURRED AROUND 60-70 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY AND LEAD TO THE VEHICLE LOSING ALL POWER AND BARELY MAKING IT TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD. I HAVE NOW LEARNED THAT THIS FAILURE HAS COMPLETELY DESTROYED MY FUEL SYSTEM AND IS NOT COVERED BY VW EVEN THOUGHTHEY ARE USING THE SAME PART THAT THEY ARE COVERING FOR THE 2010-2013 MODEL YEARS THEY OFFERED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY ON. NOT ONLY IS THIS INCREDIBLY UNSAFE, AS A CONSUMER THIS TYPE OF UNPREDICTABLE AND COMMON FAILURE IS UNACCEPTABLE.

215/60/r16- replaced 6 tires all under 2500 miles of use. Have all receipts. The tires were always losing air even with being Brandy new, would slide with brand new tread and it did not have to be raining. I spent a lot of money on the tires to only go with a different brand finally after going to have to replace 4 more tires under the 2500 mark, yes I had the warranty for free replacement. But discount tires deemed the Sentury touring tires a road hazard. I also have pictures of how they looked even with air in them. I purchased them from a discount tire store as well. They have all my documents on file to prove my statement. Sentury company needs to investigated on their tire quality as the tires could have caused blow outs and killed my family or myself or even another person. As you can see in the picture yes they are dirty, but plenty of tread. These tires are supposed to be reliable for 40k miles. These were either the second or 3rd replacement for this brand depending on what part of the car, either front or back. And again not even 2500 miles did they last.

Airbag clock spring has broken but part is unavailable and has been on back order for over a year. I now do not have an airbag, horn or any steering wheel buttons. Couldn’t care less on the buttons but my concern is safety with the airbag and horn. Also it will no longer pass my states inspection. Volkswagen needs to fix this and now! Part on back order for over a year and no expected time in near future is unacceptable for those in this position!! :(. They should realize some people will die instead of survive certain crashes without airbags working!!

I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE ABOUT A YEAR AND A HALF AGO IN ARIZONA. IT HAS ONLY EVER BEEN SERVICED BY VOLKWAGEN DEALERSHIPS. SINCE HAVING THE CAR, I HAVE HAD TO HAVE ITS TURBO REPAIRED, NEW FUEL LINES PUT IN, SEVERAL ELECTRONIC PARTS, AND FINALLY ON MY WAY TO SCHOOL FROM BOSTON TO PITTSBURGH, MY ENGINE STARTS SMOKING. AFTER THIS INCIDENT IT WENT TO 'MINUTEMAN VOLKSWAGEN' JUST OUTSIDE OF BOSTON, WHERE THE ISSUE WAS STILL NOT ABLE TO BE RESOLVED. I THEN HAD TO HAVE THE CAR SHIPPED OUT OF POCKET TO A VOLKWAGEN DEALERSHIP IN PITTSBURGH WHERE A NEW ELECTRONICS UNIT WAS PUT IN. On Saturday October 30, 2021 my car was parked on the driveway. I tried to put the key in the ignition and the key would not go in. There is a white plastic piece in the ignition that will not allow the key to go in. My steering wheel and front tires locked. I called AAA and had a tow truck come so that I could have the car towed to the dealership. The driver was able to wiggle the key and start the car. I dropped off the car at the dealership on Saturday Oct 30th. I was told by the dealership that the key cylinder and steering wheel lock housing plus keys need to be replaced. I contacted VW of America and was told that they will not replace the part because the car is out of warranty. This is obviously a defect as there have been many recalls with this part in different model VW's. The dealership is trying to charge me $934.03 for this repair which I believe is a defect. Service advisor at Volkswagen stated that it is not safe to drive the car as it could leave me stranded. There were no warning lights or other symptoms prior to failure on Saturday October 30, 2021.

I CURRENTLY OWN A 2014 VW PASSAT TDI THAT WAS PART OF THE RECALL AND DUE TO THE FACT THESE VEHICLES HAVE SAT AROUND A LONG PERIOD OF TIME THEY EXTENDED CERTAIN OTHER PARTS WARRANTY. IN FEBRUARY I HAD THE HEATER CORE REPLACED TWICE. OVER THE SUMMER THERE WAS NO NEED FOR HEAT AND I JUST TURNED THE HEAT ON THIS MORNING AND THE VEHICLE IS BLOWING COLD AIR AGAIN. I AM LESS THAN 1000 MILES OUTSIDE THE EXTENDED WARRANTY AND VW REFUSES TO REPAIR. THIS ISSUE COULD HAVE STARTED WELL WITHIN THE MILEAGE RESTRAINTS BUT DUE TO WARM WEATHER THERE WAS NO NEED FOR HEAT. The component that failed is in the official dealer report. I am not an expert however definitely an issue with electrical, engine, steering and acceleration meter. The car shakes/jolts aggressively. Once the shaking of the vehicle begins it accelerates with the breaks being pressed in under a red light and also under parked mode. In the red light case the vehicle then turns off the steering wheel freezes and all power comes off. The shaking/jolting takes place as I am driving as well. Which I then have to pull to the right to ensure my safety and others. This is major safety concern as it accelerates /jolts forward which can cause harm to pedestrians crossing the street, having me enter crossing traffic causing a major accident to myself and others. I have the brakes pressed in having no control of the vehicle. The vehicle turning off as I am driving is a major safety concern as I can cause an issue specially going on higher speed like freeways. The steering wheel comes into a complete freeze once the vehicle turns off as I’m operating the vehicle which then does not allow me to control the movement of the vehicle if I want to pull to the right away from traffic to avoid collisions. Once the car looses electricity and the steering wheel freezes I have to force my car to the right or a safe space. I then have to take my car key off the ignition and then turn it back on in hopes that it does turn on. No warning lamps have turned on. My dashboard is cleared with no lights. The dealer in downtown Los Angeles was informed of this issue, inspected and the report did come back reporting manufacturing issues. My vehicle did have a steering wheel recall before which I assumed was resolved as I did previously visit their center to ensure I was safe driving and leaving the dealer I trusted that the issue was resolved by their expert and experienced personnel. I am not sure or it’s unknown if this might have anything to do with the current issue I have.

Car started to stall, the spark plugs, injectors, sensors all replaced. I go to pickup the car on three different occasions and it won't go 1/10 of a mile without stalling and refuses to start. The garage I was dealing with refuses to work on it any more. I think this seems to be a common problem with the 2014 Passats, but I don't see where anyone's has been fixed. The stalling has happened on multiple dates. Now it's at a garage and can't even get it to dealer and have already spent over 1000.00

I'm having issues with the heat in my vehicle. There is no heat on the passenger side which also affects the visibility of seeing out the windshield because the defroster does not function properly. The original owner replaced the heater core somewhere around 40-45000 miles. I have owned 2 other vehicles of this model and had the same issue on everyone of them where the heater core was replaced.. This is more than a inconvenience it is a potential hazard not being able to see when the windshield is frosted or fogged up. It is a poor design and this needs to be addressed and investigated further. It's a bad time of year to have an equipment failure like this. There was no accident or incident but there is a potential hazard waiting to happen.

heater core getting clogged again, after multiple replacements, vwgoa will not perform recall because of other not related recall not performed. when heater core gets clogged three things happen, passenger side stops producing heat, windshield defrost does not operate correctly, and coolant lost due to evaporating and or leak into intercooler that can lead to engine damage

To Whom It May Concern. Good afternoon. I really need your help on this. This particular vehicle has a defective DEF emission system that renders the car inoperable when the DEF sensors start acting up. Between 2022-2023, I took this vehicle to the Volkswagen dealership on numerous times, over ten different times. This vehicle was still protected under a factory emissions DEF extended warranty. The engine mounted diesel injection pump was changed by me when the Volkswagen dealer refused to honor the defective diesel injection pump. The DEF emissions systems has had numerous issues including shutting off on the freeway due to defective DEF sensors. Between 2022-2023 I was forced to keep the vehicle on for up to 96 hours costing me considerable expenses in fuel, and abnormally high mechanical wear and tear on my vehicle because I was unable to turn the vehicle off due to a Volkswagen diesel no-restart emissions issue that can only be repaired at the Volkswagen dealership. VWOA has acted in extremely bad faith causing unnecessary hardship on their customers that erroneously purchased a Volkswagen Passat diesel with the DEF emission system. Volkswagen ripped me off by selling a defective vehicle, then refusing to honor their factory extended emissions warranty on the defective DEF systems. Please intervene. Hi , My 2014 Passat driven by a family member struck a parked truck. Luckily, nobody was hurt! The parked car was not occupied and the driver of the Passat was able to exit the vehicle unharmed. The speed was about 35 mph and the air bags deployed. This front collision resulted in a major fire that totally destroyed the car. The insurance company (Progressive) is currently in the possession of the car. And one other important thing to note is that, about 2 years ago, this car was also involved in a different accident when it reared a car. That collision did not result in the deployment of the air bags but caused lots of damage. The radiator and lots of the plastic in the front needed replacement at that time. I don't recall the exact amount for the damage, but we ended up paying the full 2k deductible to get the car back.

The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who performed an unknown repair; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was then taken to another independent mechanic, who performed an oil change and added antifreeze. The next morning, the contact inspected the vehicle and noticed the oil and antifreeze were empty. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 119,000.

I PURCHASED A 2014 VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT TDI SEL ON 03-31-2014. I WAS DRIVING IT HOME WHEN I WENT THROUGH A FREEWAY INTERCHANGE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. THE ROAD WAS DRY AND OTHER VEHICLES WERE GOING THROUGH THE INTERCHANGE AT A SPEED FASTER THAN ME. THE ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC) APPLIED THE BRAKES IN SUCH A WAY THAT IT TRIED TO STRAIGHT MY VEHICLE OUT INTO THE TURN, CAUSING ME TO NEARLY HIT THE GUARD RAIL. I TOOK MY CAR IN TO THE VW DEALER THE NEXT MORNING AND TOLD THEM ABOUT THE ESC ISSUE AND THE FACT THE CAR PULLED TO THE RIGHT (ALIGNMENT ISSUE). THEY CHECKED IT AND FOUND NOTHING AND EVEN SAID THE ALIGNMENT WAS FINE. THEY SAID THE ESC SOUNDED NORMAL TO THEM. I'VE BEEN DRIVING THE SAME ROADS FOR 20 YEARS AND I KNEW THIS WASN'T NORMAL. I MADE VIDEOS OF THE ESC CAR SLOWING ME DOWN BELOW HIGHWAY SPEEDS AROUND SWEEPING CORNERS. I WAS TAKING MY DAUGHTER HOME ONE DAY AND A FORD EXPLORER NEARLY REAR ENDED ME. I'VE TAKEN THE CAR BACK TWO ADDITIONAL TIMES, DURING WHICH THEY CORRECTED THE ALIGNMENT AND FIXED A TRIM PANEL THAT WAS FALLING DOWN. THE ESC THEY MAINTAIN IS WORKING PERFECTLY. THE FUNNY THING IS I ALSO HAVE A 2014 VW JETTA TDI THAT NEVER ENGAGES THE ESC, THOUGH IS EQUIPPED WITH THE SAME SYSTEM. I DROVE A 2014 VW CC AS A LOANER AND THE ESC NEVER ENGAGED. I TOOK THE CAR IN AGAIN ON 2/15/14 AND WAS TOLD VEHICLE IS OPERATING AS DESIGNED. I TOOK THE CAR IN AGAIN ON 3/14/14 TO A DIFFERENT DEALERSHIP AND THIS TIME THEY FOUND THAT THE TIRES WERE SET AT 41.5 PSI. THE RECOMMEND PRESSURE IS 30PSI. I WAS TOLD THAT WITH HIGHER PSI THE WHEELS WOULD BOUNCE AND COULD LOOSE TRACTION. I NEVER HAD TO A AIR TO ANY OF MY TIRES SINCE PURCHASE. DURING THESE OCCASION MY VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN AND OUT OF THE SHOP FOR A NUMBER OF REASON ALONG WITH A SQUEAKING SUSPENSION AND BACKUP CAMERA ISSUES AND AT NOT TIME NO ONE NOTICED THE ADDITIONAL 11 PSI. AFTER DRIVING FOR A WEEK IT DID THE SAME THING AGAIN ON 3/21/14 EVEN AFTER THE TIRE PRESSURE ADJUSTMENT. I AM SCHEDULE TO BRING THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER 3/27/14. ALL THIS TIME I'M LEFT TO DRIVE THIS UNSAFE VEHICLE BECAUSE VOLKSWAGEN WANTS TO TRY AGAIN AND FIX THE PROBLEMS WITHOUT GIVING ME A LOANER TO AVOID THE LEMON LAW OF 30 OUT OF USE IN MARYLAND. In 2022 I was in an accident on the highway; a dear hit my car while I was traveling at 70 MPH. My airbags did not deploy and I ended up hitting my head on the driver side window really hard and it gave me a concussion and I injured one of the disks in my back. I almost got hit by semi trucks traveling behind me as well. Again, my airbags didn’t deploy after this and I’ve seen many recalls on the 2014 VW Passat specifically about the vehicles airbag deployment being that they’re also Takata airbags that had major recalls too. They should’ve deployed on a head on collision. My insurance didn’t total my car but I have proof that the entire frame was bent from the accident and my entire front headlight, fender and bumper are smashed in and wires for my transmission were severed. I still haven't settled this claim yet. I’m considering getting a lawyer about it.

The contact also stated that while making a turn in either direction the vehicle would wobble causing him to lose control of the vehicle. There was no warning light illuminated. THE PROBLEM BELOW WAS FIRST EXPERIENCED WHEN THE CAR WAS STATIONARY ON A CITY STREET. THE DRIVER DOOR FAILS TO OPEN AFTER BEING EXPOSED TO COLD TEMPERATURES OF ABOUT 32F OR LESS. THE EXTERIOR HANDLE BEHAVES AS USUAL, BUT DOES NOT DISENGAGE THE LATCH LOCATED IN THE DOOR JAM. DURING THESE EPISODES, THE INTERIOR HANDLE HAS A UNNATURAL AMOUNT OF RESISTANCE, SO MUCH SO THAT THE OPERATOR WILL CEASE PULLING ON THE HANDLE IN FEAR OF DAMAGING THE COMPONENTS. SOMETIMES THE DOOR WILL REGAIN IT'S NORMAL OPERATION AFTER PRESSING THE LOCK AND UNLOCK BUTTON MULTIPLE TIMES ON THE INTERIOR DRIVERS SIDE PANEL. LOCKING AND UNLOCKING THE CAR FROM THE PASSENGER'S PANEL WILL NOT YIELD THE SAME RESULTS. WHEN IT'S EXECUTED FROM THE PASSENGER PANEL, THE DRIVERS DOOR LOCK DOES NOT AUDIBLY ENGAGE AND DISENGAGE. PLEASE NOTE, EVEN AFTER MANAGING TO OPEN THE DOOR AT THE BEGINNING OF A TRIP, DOES NOT MEAN IT WILL OPEN WHEN YOU ARRIVE AT YOUR DESTINATION. I'VE EXPERIENCE THIS MULTIPLE TIMES WHEN DEPARTING MY PLACE OF RESIDENCE (DID NOT LEAVE UNTIL THE DOOR WAS 'FIXED') AND THEN ARRIVING AT WORK. IN AUGUST OF 2017, MY AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON AND MY HORN STOPPED WORKING. THERE WAS ALSO A CLICKING SOUND WHEN TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO VOLKSWAGEN AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE CLOCK SPRING HAD FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. AFTER CONDUCTING SOME RESEARCH, I FOUND THAT OTHER 2014 PASSATS HAD BEEN RECALLED FOR THE SAME EXACT ISSUE. MY VIN WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE RECALL, AND SO I HAD TO PAY OUT OF POCKET FOR A NEW CLOCK SPRING. I BELIEVE THAT THE VOLKSWAGEN RECALL WAS NOT BROAD ENOUGH TO COVER ALL VEHICLES AFFECTED. I REPORTED THIS TO THE NHTSA AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT. HOWEVER, ABOUT 6 MONTHS LATER, MY VEHICLE BEGAN HAVING THE SAME ISSUES. I WAS INFORMED THAT THE SECOND CLOCK SPRING HAD FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. BECAUSE THE PART WAS NEW, VOLKSWAGEN COVERED THE REPAIRS. I DID NOT REPORT THIS SECOND OCCURRENCE OF CLOCK SPRING FAILURE AT THE TIME. I AM REPORTING THE RE-OCCURRENCE OF THE CLOCK SPRING FAILURE NOW, AS I STILL HOPE THE INITIAL RECALL WILL BE EXPANDED AND THAT I WILL GET REFUNDED FROM REPLACING IT THE FIRST TIME. FIRST OFF, THE BREAD STARTED GIVING ME TROUBLE A COUPLE WEEKS AFTER PURCHASING THE VEHICLE. I DRIVE A MANUAL TRANSMISSION. I HAVE A 3 YEAR OLD CAR WITH 30, 000 MILES ON IT. THE TRANSMISSION JAMMED WHILE THE CAR WAS ON THE HIGHWAY. IT WAS DUE TO A CLUTCH THAT HAD BROKEN INTO PIECES AND NEEDED REPLACEMENT. AS A SEASONED DRIVER OF MANUAL CARS, HAVING DRIVEN ONES WITH >100, 000 MILES ON THEM I HAVE NEVER FACED SUCH A DANGEROUS AND UNEXPECTED DISINTEGRATION OF THE CLUTCH IN A CAR THAT HAS ONLY 30, 000 MILES ON IT. KEEPING IN MIND THE KIND OF TAMPERING AND MISHANDLING THAT IT WOULD NEED TO BREAK A CLUTCH I COMPLAINED TO VW ABOUT THIS AND THEY HAVE DONE NOTHING TO HELP. INSTEAD I AM LEFT WITH A HEFT BILL TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS, AND, WILL PROBABLY NEED TO BUY A NEW CAR ANYWAY AS I WOULD NOT ENDANGER MY LIFE AND THAT OF MY CHILDREN DRIVING A CAR WITH SOME SERIOUS ENGINEERING AND/DESIGN ISSUES THAT VW WILL NOT TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR. THE CAR ALSO HAS ELECTRICAL ISSUES WHICH I INFORMED VW ABOUT; THE PARKED CAR WITH THE PARKING BREAKS ON WHILE TURNED OFF ROLLS OFF ON THE MOST GRADUAL SLOPES AND ONTO THE STREET.

TWICE, ON MAY 12 AND ON OCTOBER 22, WHILE IN A PARKING LOT AND PULLING INTO A VERTICAL PARKING SPOT AT VERY LOW SPEED, I TAPPED THE ACCELERATOR, AND SUDDENLY THE CAR RAPIDLY SPED UP. I WAS UNABLE TO STOP IT WITH THE BRAKE PEDAL, AND I HIT A BRICK PLANTER THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED, AND I HIT THE POST HOLDING UP THE FRONT OF A BUILDING THE SECOND TIME. THE BRAKE PEDAL ON THE PASSAT IS APPROXIMATELY 3" WIDE AND LOCATED ONLY AN INCH OR SO FROM THE ACCELERATOR. IT IS POSSIBLE THAT I HIT BOTH PEDALS WHILE TRYING TO STOP THE VEHICLE, BUT THAT DOES NOT EXPLAIN THE SUDDEN ACCELERATION THAT CAUSED THE CAR TO JUMP THE CURB AND HIT THE PLANTER AND THE BUILDING. FRIGHTENING SITUATION. I WASN'T INJURED THE FIRST TIME BUT WAS FAIRLY WELL SHAKEN UP THE SECOND. THE BODY SHOP SAID THE DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE WAS ALMOST EXACTLY THE SAME EACH TIME. BACKUP CAMERA/NAVIGATION/RADIO SYSTEM SYSTEM DOES NOT WORKING IN A CONSISTENT MANNER (CAMERA WORKS WHEN IT WANTS TO-BIG SAFETY CONCERN, SCREEN GOES BLANK, ETC.). RADIO/NAVIGATION CONTROLS ARE INOPERABLE AT RANDOM OCCASIONS WHILE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION OR EVEN AT A STOP POSITION. RADIO SCREEN GOES BLANK EVEN IF RADIO IS ON AND USER IS UNABLE TO CONTROL IT FOR UP TO A FEW MINUTES. ON 2 OCCASIONS, EVEN AFTER TURNING THE ENTIRE CAR ON AND OFF MULTIPLE TIMES THE RADIO WAS ON BUT ALL CONTROLS WERE INOPERABLE AND UNABLE TO TURN OFF. EVENTUALLY THE SYSTEM BECAME OPERABLE A FEW MINUTES LATER. SAFETY ISSUE HAS BEEN DISCUSSED WITH VW DEALER AND THEY STATED VW KNOWS ABOUT ALL THE OWNER INQUIRIES INTO THIS ISSUE BUT IT HAS YET TO MAKE A RECALL. MY CONCERN IS THAT BACKUP CAMERA DOES NOT WORK AS IT SHOULD AND THEREFORE THE SAFETY FEATURE THAT THE VEHICLE CAME WITH DOES NOT FUNCTION PROPERLY. THIS CAUSES THE DRIVER TO GO IN REVERSE WITH ONLY THE HELP OF MIRRORS. IF SAFETY EQUIPMENT DOES NOT WORK PROPERLY THEN IT SHOULD BE REPLACED. SECOND, WHEN THE SYSTEM CONTROLS MALFUNCTION THE VOLUME AND ON/OFF BUTTONS CANNOT BE USED AND THEREFORE DRIVER IS LEFT FOCUSING ON HOW TO FIX THIS ISSUE NOT ON KEEPING THEIR EYES ON THE ROAD. AS PER MY DISCUSSION BOTH WITH THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPARTMENT AND THE CUSTOMER SERVICE AT CORPORATE OFFICE, THEY ADMITTED TO THE RECURRING ISSUE FOR MANY VW OWNERS BUT SAID IT HAD NOT BECOME A BIG ENOUGH ISSUE OR SAFETY CONCERN SO THERE WAS NOT RECALL. MY QUESTION IS IF SYSTEM (BACKUP CAMERA/RADIO/NAVIGATION) IS ALREADY A DOCUMENTED ISSUE FOR MANY OWNERS AND DOES NOT ALLOW A SAFETY FEATURE TO WORK PROPERLY (BACKUP CAMERA) OR CAN CAUSE A DISTRACTION FOR A VEHICLE OPERATOR THEN WHY IS NOT A RECALL. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO STEERING WHEEL MALFUNCTION AND REQUESTS A BUY BACK OF VEHICLE. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED THE FIRST STEERING MALFUNCTION OCCURRED ON OCTOBER 8, 2014, WHICH CAUSED HER TO LOOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE WHICH RESULTED IN HER AND ANOTHER VEHICLE RUNNING OFF THE ROAD. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONSUMER THE ISSUE WAS DUE TO CORRODED WIRES IN THE STEERING BOX, A COMPUTER UPDATE WAS NEEDED AND IT WAS DUE TO NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR. ON OCTOBER 22, 2014, THE STEERING WHEEL MALFUNCTIONED OCCURRED AGAIN AND SHE ALMOST HIT A PARKED VEHICLE AND A LIGHT POLE. THE DEALER REPLACED THE POWER STEERING RACK AND HARNESS. ON NOVEMBER 6, 2014, THE STEERING WHEEL MALFUNCTION AGAIN. HOWEVER, THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO FIND A PROBLEM AFTER HAVING THE VEHICLE FOR A WEEK. THE INCIDENT HAPPENED AGAIN ON DECEMBER 18, 2014. I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN SUDDENLY MY SUNROOF EXPLODED. IT SOUNDED LIKE A GUNSHOT THAT SCARED THAT[XXX] OUT MY FAMILY AND ME. VOLKSWAGEN DOES NOT WANT TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR BECAUSE AN OUTSIDE SOURCE HIT IT. FIRST THERE WAS NO CARS IN FRONT OF ME AT LEAST FOR 200 METERS. SECOND IT LOOKS LIKE THE GLASS PUSHED OUT FROM THE INSIDE OUT. I ASKED IF THEY HAD ANY PROOF AND TOLD ME THAT THE GLASS WAS PUSHED OUT AND THAT SOMETHING HAD TO HIT IT. THEY ARE WILLING TO PAY HALF THE COST BUT I BELIEVE THEY DON'T WANT TO PAY THE FULL COST BECAUSE THEY DON'T WANT ADMIT TO FAULT. AFTER OWNING THE VEHICLE FOR APPROXIMATELY A WEEK I REALIZED WHAT I THOUGHT WAS A SLIGHT INCONVENIENCE TURNS OUT TO BE A MAJOR VISIBILITY ISSUE. I HAD NOTICED SHORTLY AFTER PURCHASING THE VEHICLE THAT IN CONGESTED TRAFFIC THE INTERIOR REARVIEW MIRROR CAUSES BLIND SPOTS. AT FIRST I NOTICED THAT THIS WAS BLOCKING THE UPPER SECTIONS OF MOST SEDAN TYPE VEHICLES. HOWEVER ON THE DATE IN QUESTION I WAS IN MAJOR TRAFFIC THERE WAS A DELIVERY TRUCK WITH A HIGHER ROAD CLEARANCE. THIS VEHICLE BEGAN MOVING LEFT INTO MY LANE. THAT IS WHEN I NOTICED THAT THE INTERIOR REAR VIEW MIRROR WAS BLOCKING MY ABILITY TO SEE THE TAIL LIGHTS AND TURN SIGNAL LIGHTS ON THE REAR OF THE DELIVERY TRUCK. AFTER NOTICING THIS ISSUE I TOOK GREATER CONCERN WHEN DRIVING AND LOOKING AT THE VISIBILITY. THEN ON THE 27TH WHILE DRIVING TO A LOCAL PARK THE INTERIOR REAR VIEW MIRROR ONLY ALLOWED ME TO SEE ABOUT A SMALL PORTION OF THEIR LOWER TORSO. THE CYCLIST WAS IN THE BIKE LANE JUST OFF MY FRONT PASSENGER TIRE. THIS WAS STILL THE ISSUE WHEN THE CYCLIST WAS SLIGHTLY AHEAD OF MY CAR. IF THE CYCLIST HAD SIGNALED HE WAS MERGING INTO MY LANE FOR THE UPCOMING INTERSECTION I WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO SEE THE HAND SIGNAL. LUCKILY BECAUSE I KNOW THERE IS A BLIND SPOT BASICALLY IN FRONT MY CAR I WAS ABLE TO AVOID ANY INCIDENT. THESE ISSUES WOULD NORMALLY NOT BE AN ISSUE AS MOST REAR VIEW MIRRORS HAVE BOTH THE ABILITY TO TILT (UP, DOWN, LEFT, RIGHT) HOWEVER ALSO CAN BE MOVED AROUND TWO INCHES UPWARD, DOWNWARD , LEFT AND RIGHT. THIS IS DUE TO THE BALL JOINTS AT BOTH THE UPPER AND LOWER (BASE) OF THE INTERIOR REAR VIEW MIRROR. HOWEVER ON A NUMBER OF VW VEHICLES THEY DO NOT HAVE THE LOWER (BASE) BALL JOINT. THUS I AM UNABLE TO POSITION THE INTERNAL REARVIEW MIRROR TO AN APPROPRIATE LOCATION. HOPEFULLY I CAN HAVE THIS RESOLVED BEFORE AN ACCIDENT OCCURS. *TR

SINCE PURCHASED WE HAVE FOUND THE RNS-510 RADIO NAVIGATION ASYSTEM TO BE A DANGEROUS ITEM THAT VOLKSWAGEN HAS KNOWN ABOUT FOR A NUMBER OF YEARS. THEIR TECH TIPS NUMBER, TT 91-13-01 DATED 2/8/2013, UPDATED ON 5/9/2014 BASICALLY TELLS THE CAR OWNER TO JUST LIVE WITH IT. I THINK NOT SINCE IT IS DANGEROUS AND LIFE THREATENING. IN SPEAKING WITH VW TECHS AT A NUMBER OF DEALERSHIPS I HAVE BEEN TOLD THIS SYSTEM IS , "CRAP', "SUCKS", " IS UNDERPOWERED", "HAS BEEN A PROBLEM SINCE IT WAS INTRODUCED", "IS A PAIN IN THE [XXX]", "WILL NEVER WORK RIGHT BECAUSE IT IS UNDERPOWERED". MY WIFE IS AFRAID TO DRIVE IT BECAUSE OF CONCERNS WITH THE AFOREMENTIONED RADIO NAVIGATION SYSTEM. WHEN PUTTING THE VEHICLE IN REVERSE AND WAITING FROM 3-7 SECONDS THE REARVIEW CAMERA SHOWS A PICTURE.WHEN PLACED IN DRIVE THE REARVIEW CAMERA STAYS ON THE SCREEN FOR AROUND 8-9 SECONDS. MY WIFE HAS FOUND THIS DISTRACTING AND DANGEROUS IN MOVING FORWARD BUT HAVING A REAR VIEW STILL VISIBLE ON THE SCREEN TAKING THE DRIVERS ATTENTION FROM CONCENTRATING ON THE ROAD AHEAD. THE RADIO TOUCH SCREEN IS ALSO A PROBLEM THAT AT TIMES REQUIRES MULTIPLE TOUCHES TO GET A CHANNEL CHANGE, AGAIN A DISTRACTION TO THE DRIVE. NOW THE NAVIGATION SYSTEM IN THIS UNIT ALSO IS A PAIN. WHEN MY WIFE WOULD USE THE NAVIGATION SYSTEM THE MAP WOULD FREEZE UP ON THE ORIGINAL STREETS AND NOT PROGRESS AS SHE WENT FORWARD. I TRIED ALL OF THESE THINGS AND AGREE COMPLETELY. THIS UNIT IS GARBAGE THAT IS A BIG DISTRACTION THAT VW HAS KNOWN ABOUT SINCE THE RNS-510 WAS FIRST INTRODUCED. THE RNS-510 CAME IN MY PASSAT SEL PREMIUM WHICH IS SUPPOSED TO BE THE TOP END PASSAT. ONE WOULD THINK THAT SUCH A VEHICLE WOULD CONTAIN A UNIT THAT WOULD FUNCTION IN A SAFE MANNER. I THINK THIS IS THE TYPE OF DEFECTIVE PART THAT SHOULD REQUIRE A RECALL.
