NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 16V913000 LISTS 2009 VOLKSWAGEN RABBITS TO BE AFFECTED IN THIS RECALL. I AM CURRENTLY FACING THE SAME EXACT ISSUE DESCRIBED AND MY CAR ALSO MATCHES THIS DESCRIPTION. HOWEVER, WHEN I DID A VIN SEARCH, IT SHOWS THAT THIS CAR IS NOT LISTED. CAN I GET MY CAR ONTO THE LIST?

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 VOLKSWAGEN RABBIT. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO MCKENNA VOLKSWAGEN (18303 STUDEBAKER ROAD, CERRITOS CA, 90703, 1-855-995-7761) FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 16V913000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC, ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL) IN 2017. THE VEHICLE FAILED THE DIAGNOSTIC MODULE TEST AND THE DEALER REFUSED TO REPLACE THE ABS CONTROL MODULE AS STATED IN THE RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 95,000.

5/31/18 TOOK CAR IN FOR THE ABS MODULE RECALL. THEY DID A "SYSTEM UPDATE" LESS THEN SIX MONTHS LATER WHEN DRIVING ALL OF A SUDDEN EVERY LIGHT ON THE DASH STARTED FLASHING AND THE CAR BECAME DIFFICULT TO STEER AND BREAK SO WE IMMEDIATELY TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP. AT FIRST THEY SAID IT NEEDED THE FANS REPLACED SO WE PAID $980.88 TO HAVE THAT DONE. WHEN DRIVING THE CAR HOME FROM THE DEALERSHIP ALL THE LIGHTS STARTED FLASHING AGAIN AND SO WE TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP AND AFTER TWO WEEKS AT THE DEALERSHIP AND "39 DIFFERENT COMMUNICATION CODES" THEY SAID THE ABS MODULE FAILED COMPLETELY AND NEEDS REPLACED. I CALLED COOPERATE VW FOR HELP BUT COOPERATE VW REFUSES TO REPLACE THE MODULE AS PART OF THE RECALL BECAUSE " IT DOESN'T SHOW A CERTAIN CODE" AND "IT DIDN'T FAIL AT THE TIME THEY DID THE SYSTEM UPDATE". THIS IS OVER A $2000.00 FIX AND WE ARE UNABLE TO AFFORD IT. I AM LEFT PAYING ON A CAR I STILL OWE $4000.00 ON THAT ISN'T SAFE TO DRIVE BECAUSE I CAN'T AFFORD AN ADDITIONAL $2000.00 TO FIX A KNOW PROBLEM THAT VOLKSWAGEN WON'T FIX. THIS IS HEARTBREAKING AND BEYOND UPSETTING WHEN THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP "AGREES THAT COOPERATE SHOULD FIX IT BUT THERE IS NOTHING HE CAN DO". HE EVEN SAID THAT THIS IS "A MAJOR PROBLEM WITH A MAJORITY OF THE CARS HE HAS BEEN WORKING ON". IT'S JUST NOT RIGHT!!!

RECALL ISSUED AND NEW SOFTWARE FLASHED TO MODULE. VWOA FAILED TO REPLACE FAULTY MODULE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. FAILURE OCCURRED ON A CLEAR DRY AFTERNOON IN CITY DRIVING AT 45 MILES AN HOUR IN A CURVE. ALMOST PUT VEHICLE IN DITCH.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 VOLKSWAGEN RABBIT. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 16V913000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC, ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL). THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO CRESTMONT VOLKSWAGEN (730 NJ-23, POMPTON PLAINS, NJ 07444, (973) 839-4000). AFTER UPDATING THE SOFTWARE FOR THE ABS, THE DEALER DISCOVERED THAT THE ABS HYDRAULIC PUMP WAS NOT WORKING AND WOULD COST $2,500 TO REPAIR. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS NOT RELATED TO THE RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 127,000.

THE CURRENT RECALL (MANUFACTURER RECALL 45F2, NHTSA RECALL 16V913) FOR THE KNOWN ABS CONTROL MODULE FAULTY GROUNDING ISSUE IS WOEFULLY INADEQUATE, AS IT ALLOWS THOSE ALREADY SUFFERING FROM THE FAULTS THAT THE SOFTWARE UPDATE IS DESIGNED TO BE MORE SENSITIVE TO ARE UNABLE TO RECEIVE SATISFACTION. IF EITHER OR BOTH OF THE FAULTS THAT WOULD NECESSITATE A MODULE REPLACEMENT AFTER A SOFTWARE UPDATE ARE PRESENT PRIOR TO THE SOFTWARE UPDATE, THE SOFTWARE UPDATE CANNOT BE PERFORMED & VOLKSWAGEN WILL TAKE NO FURTHER ACTION. ESSENTIALLY, THOSE VEHICLES THAT HAVE A MODULE THAT HAS ALREADY FAILED ARE NOT BEING REPAIRED WHILE THOSE THAT HAVE NOT YET FAILED (BUT MAY BE SUSCEPTIBLE OR STARTING TO FAIL) ARE BEING REPAIRED. THESE SPECIFIC FAULTS (01130 - 125/4TH AND/OR 16352 - 96/4TH) ARE FOR DETECTING A BAD GROUND DUE TO AN IMPROPER SOLDER USED IN THE MODULES. IT SHOULD NOT MATTER IF THOSE FAULTS ARE PRESENT PRIOR TO A SOFTWARE UPDATE OR AFTER A SOFTWARE UPDATE THAT IS OSTENSIBLY DESIGNED SIMPLY TO BETTER DETECT THOSE EXACT FAULTS. THE FAULT BEGINS AS AN INTERMITTENT FAULT THAT IS CAUSED BY HARD BRAKING OR HITTING A BUMP BUT CAN BE CLEARED BY A VEHICLE RESTART. OVER TIME, IF THE MODULE IS NOT REPLACED, THE SOLDER ON THE GROUND DEGRADES FURTHER & THE FAULT BECOMES MORE SEMI-CONSTANT & CANNOT BE SIMPLY CLEARED. THE WAY THAT THE CURRENT RECALL IS WORDED ALLOWS VW TO DENY THE RECALL WORK SIMPLY BECAUSE OF THE DEGREE OF DEGRADATION TO THE GROUNDS. OVER TIME, THIS FAULT CAN INTERFERE WITH THE SPEEDOMETER, TACHOMETER AND TRANSMISSION SHIFTING OF AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION VEHICLES. AND ON BOTH AUTOMATIC & MANUAL TRANSMISSION VEHICLES, CAUSES A VERY UNSAFE FAILURE OF THE TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM WHEN CORNERING OR STOPPING IN NORMAL DAILY ROAD CONDITIONS (BRAKES LOCKING, REAR-END LOSING TRACTION, ETC)

I JUST PURCHASED MY USED 2009 VW RABBIT. THE ABS LIGHT CAME ON, TRACTION, BREAK LIGHT, ESP. WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY STATED THE ABS PUMP WAS NOT FUNCTIONING. MANY VOLKSWAGEN OWNERS WITH CARS WITHIN THE ABS RECALL YEARS HAVE THE SAME EXACT ISSUE AND VOLKSWAGENS RECALL WILL ONLY COVER THE MODULE PORTION AND NOT THE ABS PUMP (OF COURSE THE MOST EXPENSIVE PART). I WAS QUOTED AN INSANE PRICE FOR THE REPAIRS AND THE PART THAT NEEDS REPAIRS, WHEN PURCHASED, JUST HAPPENS TO COME WITH THE RECALLED PART (THE ELECTRONIC MODULE). I CALLED VOLKSWAGEN AND THEY STATED THAT THE RECALL WAS ONLY FOR TGE ELECTRONIC PORTION AND I WOULD HAVE TO TAKE CARE OF THE PUMP. I BELIEVE THIS FAULTY ELECTRONIC MODULE HAS EVERYTHING TO DO WITH THE PUMP FAILING.

ABS, TRACTION CONTROL & HANDBRAKE LIGHTS TURNED ON IN THE MIDDLE OF DRIVING. NEARLY HAD ACCIDENT BECAUSE ABS DID NOT ACTIVATE WHEN NEEDED. ME AND MY FAMILY WERE IN SIGNIFICANT DANGER. UPON MECHANIC INSPECTION THE ABS MODULE HAS FAILED.

ABS MODULE. THE ABS LIGHT AND OTHER LIGHTS CAME ON. VW RELEASED A RECALL. AFTER TAKING IT TO THE DEALERSHIP THEY SAID THEY WILL ONLY REPLACE FOR FREE IF THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH THE GROUND ON THE MODULE. THEY ARE TRYING TO CHARGE $1500+ TO REPLACE THE MODULE.

THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 16V913000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC, ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL); HOWEVER, THE DEALER REFUSED TO PERFORM THE REPAIR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT VOLKSWAGEN OF EDMOND (14220 BROADWAY EXTENSION HWY) DIAGNOSED THAT BEFORE THEY COULD PERFORM THE REMEDY, THE ABS PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 64,000. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.

ABS BRAKE MODULE. COMPUTER LOSES COMMUNICATION WITH ABS BRAKE MODULE, POWER STEERING IS DISABLED, ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL IS DISABLED ODOMETER AND SPEEDOMETER BECOME DIABLED. WHEN THIS HAPPENS IT CAN CAUSE OVER STEER AND UNDER STEER. ALMOST CAUSED ACCIDENT ON TWO OCCASIONS. RECALL SENT, VW STILL WON'T FIX THE ISSUE. PREVIOUS COMPLAINT LISTED.

THE ABS MODULE IN MY VEHICLE FAILED AROUND 90,000 MILES, WHICH I'M NOW DISCOVERING IS A VERY COMMON FOR THIS PARTICULAR MODEL AND YEAR. THE ABS SYSTEM CEASED TO FUNCTION BUT OTHER SYSTEMS WERE AFFECTED AS WELL; MY SPEEDOMETER WOULD STOP WORKING FOR SEVERAL MINUTES AT A TIME, AS WELL AS MY FUEL GAUGE. POWER STEERING WOULD CUT OUT AND I WOULD EXPERIENCE A CONSIDERABLE LOSS OF POWER FROM THE ENGINE. I WAS NEARLY HIT WHILE CROSSING A BUSY INTERSECTION BECAUSE I COULDN'T GET ANY ACCELERATION FROM THE CAR. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAS ALSO BEEN TRIGGERED INTERMITTENTLY BY THIS PROBLEM SO I HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO PASS A SMOG CHECK, MAKING MY VEHICLE ILLEGAL TO DRIVE IN THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA WHERE I'M STATIONED WITH THE MARINES. VOLKSWAGEN DEALERSHIPS ARE CHARGING MORE THAN $1,500 TO FIX THE ISSUE AND THERE HAS BEEN NO RECALL ISSUED FOR THE PROBLEM.

ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS HAVE BEEN CONSTANT SINCE PURCHASING (I.E. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMING ON FOR NO APPARENT REASON DURING LONG TRIPS, THE PRND LIGHTS LIGHTING ALL AT ONCE AT RANDOM). THESE ISSUES WERE NOT MUCH OF A PROBLEM UNTIL RECENTLY. I STARTED THE CAR AND IMMEDIATELY THE ABS, TRACTION CONTROL, AND BRAKE LIGHTS LIT UP AND THE CAR MADE 3 "BEEPS". I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND ON AGAIN, AND THE SAME THING HAPPENED AND CONTINUED. I THEN DROVE ON THE FREEWAY FOR ABOUT 10 MILES WHEN THE STEERING, AND EPC LIGHTS CAME ON. SIMULTANEOUSLY, THE SPEEDOMETER AND GAS GAUGES DROPPED TO ZERO AND THE CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. THE STEERING BECAME SLOW TO RESPOND/DELAYED. LUCKILY THERE WERE NOT MANY CARS ON THE ROAD AND I SAFELY PULLED TO THE SHOULDER. I SAFELY DROVE THE CAR HOME THAT DAY, BUT MY HUSBAND EXPERIENCED THE SAME ISSUES WHEN HE TRIED TO DRIVE THE CAR THE DAY AFTER. AFTER RESEARCHING THESE SYMPTOMS ONLINE, I FOUND THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM FOR 2009 GTI AND RABBIT MODELS, AND THAT, WHILE THIS MALFUNCTION MAKES THE CAR UNSAFE TO DRIVE, VW WILL NOT HELP CONSUMERS WITH THE ESTIMATED $2K REPAIR COSTS.

The contact owns a 2009 Volkswagen Rabbit. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V913000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic, Electronic Stability Control (ESC); however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds or while idling, the vehicle occasionally stalled, and had to be restarted to operate as needed. The failure was intermittent. The contact stated that the ABS, tire pressure, and air bag warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who informed the contact that the recall repair could not be completed due to there not being a specific diagnostic code showing the extending ambiance reading a code of only 100 times and the requirement was 125 times. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was 130,000. Parts distribution disconnect.

The contact owns a 2009 Volkswagen Rabbit. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V913000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic, Electronic Stability Control) after the contact had experienced the failure. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 30 MPH, the ABS warning light illuminated, and the vehicle failed to accelerate as needed. The vehicle stalled, and after several attempts, the vehicle restarted and was able to be driven to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed as ABS failure. The dealer was made aware of the failure but advised the contact that the failure had happened outside of the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 145,000. Parts distribution disconnect.

The contact owns a 2009 Volkswagen Rabbit. The contact stated while driving 20-30 MPH and depressing the brake pedal, the vehicle stopped abruptly and pulled to the right. The contact was able to continue driving. The contact stated that the failure had been recurring while driving and applying a moderate amount of pressure on the brake pedal. The check engine warning light and the ABS warning light were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that the ABS module was not communicating with the transmission. The contact became aware that the VIN was included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V913000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic, Electronic Stability Control (ESC) which he related to the failure; however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted several times. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 87,000. Parts distribution disconnect.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2009 VOLKSWAGEN RABBIT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HER HUSBAND CRASHED INTO A TRACTOR TRAILER AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED AND ONLY ONE OF THE EIGHT AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. THE ONLY AIR BAG THAT DEPLOYED WAS IN THE STEERING WHEEL. THE AXLES ON THE TRACTOR TRAILER FRACTURED AND THE CONTACT'S HUSBAND WAS KILLED IN THE CRASH. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THERE WERE NO OTHER INJURIES. THE DRIVER OF THE TRACTOR TRAILER AND THE DECEASED HUSBAND WERE DRUG TESTED, BUT THE RESULTS WERE NOT YET AVAILABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALED AND TOWED. THERE WERE NO RECALLS ON THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 130,000.

CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO SIDE AIRBAGS NOT DEPLOYING DURING CRASH *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED HER SON WAS HIT BY A PICK-UP MAKING A LEFT TURN OUT OF A PARKING LOT INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. THE CONSUMER STATED HER SON WAS INVOLUNTARY FORCED FROM THE NORTH BOUND LANE INTO THE CENTER TURN LANE WITH THE DRIVER'S NOSE OF THE CAR SLIGHTLY OVER THE YELLOW DOTTED LINE INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. THE DAMAGE WAS LOCATED AT THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE TIRE/DOOR. THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED BECAUSE THE RIM WAS BENT. *JB

WHEN I CAME BACK TO PICK UP MY VEHICLE, THE VAG COM HAD MULTIPLE FAULTS STILL SHOWING, COME TO FIND OUT I NEED THE CONTROL PANEL REPLACED. AFTER DRIVING AT APPROX. 70- 80 MPH ON HIGHWAY FOR OVER 1 HOUR AND STOPPING WOULD FEEL OFF AFTER COMING TO AN A COMPLETE STOP FROM TRAFFIC OR EXITING THE FREEWAY, AND THEN THE CAR HAD TROUBLE REVVING UP - COULDN'T ACCELERATE AND DIFFICULT TO DRIVE AS IT WOULD BE HARD TO GET UP TO EVEN 30 MPH - SEEMED TO GO INTO A FALSE NEUTRAL. FIRST FEW TIMES IT WOULD RETURN TO NORMAL IF I TURNED OFF THE ENGINE FOR 15 MINUTES. THE LAST TIME IT HAPPENED, IT HAPPENED TWICE IN ONE DAY AND WOULD ONLY GO BACK TO NORMAL IF ENGINE WAS OFF FOR A COUPLE OF HOURS. HAPPENED ABOUT A COUPLE OF HANDFUL OF TIMES IN THE COURSE OF A COUPLE OF YEARS - EACH TIME WAS FRIGHTENING AND ALMOST GOT INTO BAD ACCIDENTS. FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED I WAS AT ABOUT 40,000 MILES. LAST TIME IT HAPPENED, I WAS AT ABOUT 76,000 MILES. DEALERSHIP WAS UNABLE TO REPLICATE THE ISSUE OR FIND ANY APPARENT PROBLEMS WHEN SERVICING THE VEHICLE. NOT A TURBO VEHICLE SO THEY TOLD ME NOT DSG OR MECHATRONIC ISSUES. BASICALLY, DRIVE AT YOUR OWN RISK.

MY CAR IS A 2009 VW RABBIT AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT IT HAD ABOUT 10,000 MILES. I WAS IN GRIDLOCK TRAFFIC ON 1-84 ON JULY 3RD, 2009. AS I WAS WAITING IN TRAFFIC, I NOTICED A BURNING SMELL AND THAT WHEN I ENGAGED THE CLUTCH THE RPM'S WOULD REV BUT IT TOOK THE CAR A BIT OF TIME TO MOVE. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP TO SET AN APPOINTMENT BUT THEY WERE DISMISSIVE ABOUT THE WHOLE INCIDENT. THEN ON 8/30/09 ON A TRIP FROM SCHOON LAKE NY TO BETHEL, CT THE CLUTCH FAILED. AT THE BEGINNING OF MY TRIP FROM SCHROON LAKE, NY TO BETHEL, CT, I NOTICED THAT WHEN I DEPRESSED THE CLUTCH IT WOULD STAY PRESSED TO THE FLOOR AND WOULD NOT CHANGE GEARS. THIS WAS THE ONLY OCCURRENCE SO I ASSUMED IT WAS SAFE TO CONTINUE TRAVELING. MIDWAY THROUGH MY TRIP AS I WAS ON THE TACONIC STATE PARKWAY THE CLUTCH PEDAL WHEN PRESSED STAYED DEPRESSED AND WOULD NOT COME BACK UP AND THE CAR WOULD NOT GO INTO GEAR AT ALL. I HAD TO MAKE AN EMERGENCY STOP ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND WAIT FOR ASSISTANCE BECAUSE THE CAR WAS NO LONGER DRIVABLE. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP WHO THEN INSISTED THAT IT WAS DRIVER ABUSE AND NOT FAULTY PARTS. I DID EXTENSIVE RESEARCH ONLINE AND FOUND OTHER VW DRIVERS WHO EXPERIENCED THE SAME ISSUES WITH THEIR CARS AND WHO THE DEALERSHIP WOULD NOT RECTIFY THE SITUATION. WHAT THE PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE IS THE DUAL MASS FLYWHEEL HAS A TENDENCY TO OVERHEAT AFFECTING THE PRESSURE PLATES AND THE MASTER AND SLAVE CYLINDER WHICH CAN MAKE IT APPEAR TO BE DRIVER ABUSE WHEN IN FACT IT IS NOT. I HAVE DRIVEN TWO TOYOTA TERCELS(1991 AND 1997) BOTH MANUALS PRIOR TO THIS CAR FOR A TOTAL OF 15 YEARS AND BOTH FITTED WITH HYDRAULIC CLUTCHES AND NEVER HAD A PROBLEM. IN FACT BOTH CLUTCHES LASTED OVER 100,000 MILES. AFTER MANY DISCUSSIONS WITH THE DEALERSHIP WHO REFUSED TO COVER THE PART UNDER WARRANTY, I CONTACTED MY INSURANCE AND THE PART WAS COVERED UNDER MY MECHANICAL BREAKDOWN INSURANCE. I am making a complaint against volkswagen for refusing to perform the abs safety recall. The ABS module is dead, I found out the hard way that I have no ABS or traction control. I stopped on the highway and lost control, I could have died and the van that hit me twice could did worse. The dealer refuses to perform the recall and is completely unhelpful. Yes there were warning lights and thats why I took it to the dealer. P.S. This happened a day before the accident. Two different VW dealers refused to perform the ABS module recall on my car even though Volkwagen customer care called to make my appointment, the car was too old, the repair was to expensive and also that the module wasnt communicating. It specifically says it in the recall, that if the module is not responding to replace it. The next day when I driving the car on the highway, I stepped on the brakes and the car started spinning on the highway, It spun into another lane and hit another car. I realized that the car did exactly what a car with no ABS would do.

I TOOK MY BROKEN VOLKSWAGEN TO DANBURY VW IN DANBURY CT TO PERFORM THE SAFETY RECALL (16V-913). BECAUSE OF NOT BEING ABLE TO COMMUNICATE WITH THE ABS CONTROL MODULE TO UPLOAD THE NEW SOFTWARE, THEY HAVE DENIED THE RECALL AND SAY I MUST FOOT THE BILL TO REPLACE THE MODULE SO THEY CAN THEN UPLOAD THE NEW SOFTWARE TO SEE IF THEY GET THE CODE FOR FAULTY SOLDER JOINT. I HAD OBSERVED TWICE THAT THE ABS AND BRAKE SYSTEM LIGHTS ILLUMINATED UNDER HEAVY BRAKING. I READ THE SERVICE MANUAL AND SEVERAL VW FORUMS AND MY UNDERSTANDING WAS THAT THIS WAS NORMAL UNDER WHAT IS CALLED 'EMERGENCY BREAK'. I BOTH CASES TURNING THE IGNITION OFF AND ON AGAIN RESTORED THE CAR TO NORMAL. ON FEBRUARY 2013 THE ABS/ESC SYSTEM FAILED AND THE CAR CRASHED AGAINST A WALL WHILE BRAKING BEFORE A TURN. AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. WE WERE TWO PASSENGERS ON BOARD: BRIAN FOXE AND MYSELF. FORTUNATELY, NONE GOT HURT ALTHOUGH I HAD TO BE PICKED UP BY PARAMEDICS. AS I WAS TRYING TO COME OUT OF THE CURVE, THE STEERING FAILED TO RESPOND TEMPORARILY. I ALMOST T-BONED ANOTHER VEHICLE, SCARING THAT DRIVER TO DEATH...I WAS ABLE TO PULL THE CAR OUT OF THE TURN, OVER CORRECTING ALMOST PUTTING IT IN A A DITCH... THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE.

WHILE DRIVING AROUND TOWN USING THE HEATED SEATS THE PASSENGER SEAT CAUGHT ON FIRE. THE CABIN FILLED UP WITH THICK SMOKE AND WE COULD NOT BREATH. WE HAD TO STOP THE CAR IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. MY WIFE JUMPED OUT OF THE CAR AND WE PUT OUT THE FIRE. THIS IS A KNOWN VW PROBLEM THAT HAD A FULL RECALL IN CANADA. ASTONISHINGLY, THERE SEEMS TO BE NO MENTION OF THIS PROBLEM ON THE NHTSA WEB SITE. THE LOCAL VW DEALER DENIED ALL KNOWLEDGE OF ANY HEATED SEATS CATCHING FIRE BUT THEY INSTANTLY GAVE ME A $755.00 QUOTE TO FIX THE PROBLEM WITH A FIRM ESTIMATE OF FOUR HOURS TO REPLACE THE ELECTRICAL ELEMENTS IN THE SEAT. ALTHOUGH THE VW DEALER HAD NO KNOWLEDGE OF THIS TYPE OF PROBLEM THEY SEEM TO HAVE INTIMATE KNOWLEDGE OF EXACTLY HOW TO REPAIR THE SEAT. VERY CURIOUS INDEED......

WHILE DRIVING AT A NORMAL SPEED OF 45MPH, THE CAR BEGAN TO SHAKE SLIGHTLY. ALL OF THE INSTRUMENT PANEL LIGHTS FLASHED ON, AND THE FUEL GAUGE ALONG WITH THE SPEEDOMETER BEGAN TO FAIL. AS A RESULT, THE CAR NEEDED TO BE PULLED OVER AND STOPPED IN ORDER TO PREVENT A SERIOUS ACCIDENT FROM OCCURRING.

LAST MONTH THE PASSENGER SIDE BACK REAR DOOR STOPPED LOCKING, EVEN AFTER PRESSING THE LOCK BUTTON. WE TOOK IT TO THE SHOP AND PAID $400+ TO HAVE IT FIXED. A MONTH LATER, THE DRIVER SIDE REAR DOOR DECIDES TO STOP LOCKING. ONE DOOR IS UNDERSTANDABLE, BUT THE FACT THAT BOTH DOORS STOPPED LOCKING WITHIN TWO MONTHS OF EACH OTHER IS PRETTY SUSPICIOUS. I WANT TO INFORM YOU, THAT THERE MAY BE A DEFECT IN THE FIRST GENERATION TPMS VALVE ADAPTERS USED IN THE 2009 VW RABBIT, AND OTHER SIMILAR VEHICLES. IN COLD WEATHER, PART OF THESE VALVES CAN BECOME BRITTLE AND SNAP. THIS IS DUE TO THE FACT THAT THE ALUMINUM USED IN THESE VALVE STEMS CORRODES OVER A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME, CAUSING THE VALVE ITSELF TO WEAKEN. OVER TIME, THIS HAS THE POTENTIAL TO CAUSE A SITUATION THAT MAY EVENTUALLY CAUSE ALL THE AIR TO ESCAPE THE TIRE SUDDENLY - SOMETHING THIS SYSTEM IS DESIGNED TO PREVENT. IN ADDITION TO COLD WEATHER, IN THE NORTHEASTERN UNITED STATES, WHERE SAND/SALT ARE HEAVILY USED TO DE-ICE THE ROADS, THIS MAY SPEED UP THE CORROSION OF THE VALVE. I CANNOT IN GOOD CONSCIENCE, AND FOR MY OWN SAFETY, INSTALL THESE SAME POTENTIALLY FAULTY VALVES AT $60/EA BACK ON THE TIRE. I FIXED THE PROBLEM, BY INSTALLING A REGULAR VALVE STEM IN IT'S PLACE FOR $5 INCLUDING LABOR, WHICH SOLVED THE ISSUE. I HAD THIS DONE ON ALL FOUR TIRES, REMOVING THE FAULTY VALVE STEMS COMPLETELY, AND REPLACING THEM WITH STANDARD STEMS THAT WILL NOT CORRODE, AND BREAK. THE VALVE FAILED COMPLETELY WHEN THE TPMS LIGHT CAME ON IN MY VEHICLE, AND I WENT TO CHECK ONE OF THE TIRES TO MAKE SURE IT WAS FULL WITH AIR. WHEN REMOVING THE AIR GAUGE, THE VALVE SNAPPED, CAUSING ALL THE AIR TO RUSH OUT OF THE TIRE. THE COST OF REPLACING THESE VALVES IS PROHIBITIVE. THEY COST $60 EACH, AND YOU NEED TO REPLACE ALL FOUR VALVES AT ONCE - DUE TO TIRE ROTATIONS, YOU WOULD NEVER BE ABLE TO TELL WHICH TIRE HAD THE NEW VALVE IF YOU REPLACED ONLY ONE. THAT'S $250 EACH TIME TO REPLACE THE VALVES, WHICH PRESENTS A UNREASONABLE, AND UNNECESSARY BURDEN TO THE AVERAGE WORKING PERSON. *TR

I OWN A 2009 VW RABBIT. ABOUT A YEAR AFTER OWNING IT, I STARTED NOTICING A MOLDY SMELL IN THE CAR EVERY TIME I TURNED ON THE AIR CONDITIONER AND/OR THE HEAT. I TOOK THE CAR INTO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID THERE WAS MOLD IN THE AIR CONDITIONING UNIT AND THEY WOULD CLEAN IT. WHEN I PICKED IT UP, I ASKED WHAT WAS THE PROBLEM, AND THEY SAID I NEED TO TURN OFF THE DEFROSTER/AIR CONDITIONER A FEW MINUTES BEFORE TURNING OFF THE CAR SO ANY MOISTURE DRAINS OUT. IN ESSENCE, THERE IS NO CURE, JUST A FIX. I WASN'T HAPPY WITH THE RESPONSE. WHEN I ENTERED MY CAR TO LEAVE, IT SMELLED FROM SOME PERFUME THEY USED TO MASK THE MOLD SMELL. I AM ALLERGIC TO MOLD AND MILDEW AND HAVE A VARIETY OF ALLERGIES. I HAD TO LEAVE THE CAR WINDOWS OPEN FOR A WEEK TO GET RID OF THAT ODOR. NOW THAT IT'S FALL, THE WEATHER IS COOLER AND I'M USING THE HEATER. ALTHOUGH I HAVEN'T NOTICED THE MOLD SMELL YET, I'M NOTICING HEADACHES AND SINUS PROBLEMS SINCE I'VE BEEN DRIVING WITH THE HEATER. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 VOLKSWAGEN RABBIT. HE STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS EQUIPPED WITH A KNOCK SENSOR AND IT WOULD LIMIT THE ENGINE RPMS AND IT WOULD NOT ALLOW THE VEHICLE TO DOWN SHIFT. HE CONFIRMED WHEN ACTIVATED, THE AMOUNT OF FUEL PASSING THROUGH THE FUEL LINES WOULD BE LIMITED AND WHEN PASSING ANOTHER VEHICLE, HIS VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THE DEALER TO RETORQUE THE KNOCK SENSOR UNDER AN UNKNOWN MANUFACTURERS SERVICE BULLETIN. THE VEHICLE WAS RELEASED TO THE OWNER, HOWEVER THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER A SECOND TIME WHO STATED THAT THEY WOULD REPLACE THE KNOCK SENSOR UNDER THE MANUFACTURERS WARRANTY. THE CONTACT WAS AWAITING REPAIRS, TO DATE.
