Volkswagen dealership does not want to fulfill the recall.

The contact owns a 2009 Volkswagen Routan. The contact received notification of the NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V194000 (Electrical System) however, the parts to do the recall repair were not yet available. The contact stated while attempting to start the vehicle, the engine failed to turn over. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the ignition switch failed and needed to be replaced; however, the dealer confirmed that parts were not available for the recall repair. The vehicle had not yet been repaired. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was advised to take the vehicle to the dealer for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 170,000. Parts distribution disconnect.

While driving the vehicle flashed several of the dashboard waring lights, starting dinging and then stopped, started flashing and dinging again then the vehicle completely turned off. I was able to pull over out of traffic but the vehicle would not restart. None of the interior lights would come one and the emergency lights would not come on. I could not unlock any of the doors. The battery has been replaced with in the last year and is working correctly.

the car shuts off while driving which is scary. requires restarting while in traffic. there was a recall in past and the fix clearly did not work. This incident has occurred multiple times.

The vehicle was jump-started by the police and was restarted. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and the contact was informed that the starter needed to be replaced. The failure mileage was approximately 54,000.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 VOLKSWAGEN ROUTAN. WHILE THE CONTACT WAS OUT OF TOWN, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO START AND THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. ONCE THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO BE STARTED, THE CHECK ENGINE INDICATOR DIMMED. THE CONTACT CALLED A LOCAL DEALER (GREEN CHEVROLET, 1703 AVENUE OF THE CITIES, EAST MOLINE, IL 61244) AND WAS INFORMED TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO HER LOCAL DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 124,000.

VEHICLE WON'T START. THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME AND I HAVE FILLED PREVIOUS INCIDENT REPORTS. IT LEFT ME STRANDED AGAIN TODAY AFTER I PICKED UP MEDICINE FOR A CHILD AT HOME RECOVERING FROM SURGERY. THIS VEHICLE IS UNRELIABLE AND THEREFORE THE SITUATION IS UNACCEPTABLE. OUR MECHANIC HAS RUN DIAGNOSTICS AND CAN FIND NOTHING WRONG. WE TOOK A LEAP OF FAITH AND HAD A NEW STARTER INSTALLED, THIS WAS NOT THE PROBLEM. I WOULD BUY ANOTHER CAR, BUT RIGHT NOW THIS IS NOT AN OPTION FOR US. WE NEED HELP!

OUR ROUTAN HAS, YET AGAIN, LEFT ME STRANDED. I WAS RUNNING ERRANDS WITH TWO OF MY CHILDREN AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START. THIS IS NOT AN ISOLATED INCIDENT FOR ME OR, IT WOULD APPEAR FROM RESEARCH I'VE DONE, FOR THIS MAKE AND MODEL. OUR MECHANIC HAS RUN DIAGNOSTICS AND CAN NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG. IT IS A SAFETY CONCERN BECAUSE IT IS UNRELIABLE AND LEAVES ME STRANDED, TWICE LATE AT NIGHT, SEVERAL TIMES, FORTUNATELY, IN FRONT OF MY OWN HOME AND THIS NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED.

FOR YEARS I HAVE EXPERIENCED INTERMITTENT FAILURES IN STARTING MY CAR, EACH TIME IF I WAIT A WHILE IT WILL START. ADDITIONALLY, BEGINNING IN FEB 2016, MY ENGINE WILL SIMPLY SHUT DOWN WHILE THE CAR IS IN MOTION (PRETTY SCARY). I HAVE DEALT WITH VW SEVERAL TIME TO NO AVAIL AND ALWAYS AT MY EXPENSE. THIS LATEST DEVELOPMENT MAY COST ME OR SOMEONE ELSE THEIR LIFE. VW ACTS LIKE THIS HAS NOT HAPPENED TO ANYONE ELSE AND IF THEY CAN'T RECREATE THE ISSUE THEY CAN'T ADDRESS THE ISSUE, REALLY! THIS IS CRIMINAL! I HAVE HAD A STARTER REPLACED AS WELL AS A SWITCH AND NO CHANGE. ALL I GET FROM VW IS "YOU CAN TAKE IT TO ANOTHER DEALER AND GET A SECOND OPINION WE WILL COVER 1 HOUR OF THE COST TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM" REALLY NO GREATER EXPERTISE NO INFORMATION SHARING, JUST ANOTHER DEALER, THE THIRD OF WHICH WILL LIKELY TELL ME, WE CAN'T CREATE THE PROBLEM!

HAD THE WIN MODULE REPLACED FOR THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM IGNITION SWITCH RECALL. NOW THE CAR WILL MAKE SUDDEN STOPS AND SHUT DOWN. CAR THEN WILL NOT START UP UNLESS THE BATTERY IS UNHOOKED AND HOOKED BACK UP. DEALER WANTS TO CHARGE 350.00 TO DO A DIAGNOSTIC TEST TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE.

THE VEHICLE WHILE DRIVING HAD ALL THE WARNING LIGHTS COME ON , THE GAUGES GO UP AND DOWN AND THE VEHICLE CUT OFF. THIS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES ONE AFTERNOON. HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED TO THE HOUSE. INTERNET SEARCH SHOWS THAT THIS IS A ROUTINE PROBLEM FOR OTHERS AS WELL.

WHEN SLOWING DOWN TO TURN INTO THE PARKING LOT AT THE LOCAL LIBRARY THE VEHICLE STALLED AND LOST POWER. AFTER COMING TO A STOP THE VAN WOULD START FINE AND WAS ABLE TO FINISH THE TRIP. A FEW DAYS LATER THIS SAME ISSUE OCCURRED WHILE COMING TO A STOP. WE RETURNED THE CAR TO DEALERSHIP FOR WORK ON A FAULTY RADIO AND MENTIONED THIS ISSUE. THE DEALERSHIP HAD THE RADIO REPLACED AND TOOK IT TO A VW DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THE IGNITION SWITCH REPLACED UNDER A SAFETY RECALL. IT WORKED FINE FOR ABOUT A WEEK THEN STARTED HAPPENING AGAIN. THE VAN WAS TAKEN IN FOR AN OIL CHANGE AT AN INDEPENDENT SHOP AND THEY CHECKED ABOUT THE STALLING ISSUE. THEY COULD NOT FIND ANY CODES INDICATING A PROBLEM, BUT AFTER THE OIL CHANGE THE VAN WORKED BETTER FOR A FEW DAYS. IT NOW STALLS MULTIPLE TIMES PER DAY, USUALLY GOING LESS THAN 30 MPH. ON SEPT 19, 2015 THE VAN STALLED WHILE ACCELERATING ON TO THE ENTRANCE RAMP OF THE HIGHWAY. THE SPEED WAS ABOUT 45MPH.

AFTER LESS THAN 1 YEAR OF DRIVING THE VAN, I NOTICED SHAKING WHILE BRAKING. I THOUGHT IT WAS JUST BAD BRAKING HABITS. LAST YEAR, I RODE AN AMERICAN VERSION OF THIS VAN (CHRYSLER OR DODGE), THERE WAS THE SAME PROBLEM. I SENT IT TO THE DEALERSHIP TODAY AND FOUND OUT THAT REAR ROTORS WERE BAD. I CHECKED THE INTERNET AND THERE WERE SIMILAR PROBLEMS. I ASKED THEM TO REPAIR IT HOPEFULLY, THEY WILL REPLACE WITH BETTER PARTS. I THINK THE BRAKES WERE NOT DESIGNED FOR THE V8 ENGINE. *TR

BRAKE ROTORS WARP VERY QUICKLY ON THIS VEHICLE (WHICH IS ALSO MADE BY CHRYSLER). DURING HEAVY BRAKING AT 40MPH THE STEERING WHEEL VIBRATES VERY HEAVILY DUE TO WARPED BRAKE ROTORS (HAPPENS UNDER 12000MILES). DON'T SEE HOW ANTILOCK SENSORS CAN WITHSTAND THIS VIBRATION AND GET AN ACCURATE READING TO KEEP THE VEHICLE FROM LOCKING THE WHEELS. I HAVE ALREADY HAD INCIDENTS WHERE APPLYING THE BRAKES AT 40MPH HOUR THAT I HAVE SKIDDED BUT WAS SMART ENOUGH TO LET OFF ONCE I REALIZED THE ABS WAS NOT FUNCTIONING CORRECTLY AND RE-APPLIED THE BRAKES.VW AND DEALER ACKNOWLEDGE THE PROBLEM AND REPLACE THE ROTORS WITH THE SAME DEFECTIVE ROTORS ON THE VEHICLE. THIS IS AN ENGINEERING PROBLEM AND NOT A WEAR AND TEAR ISSUE AS THEY CLAIM. IT WILL ONLY BE A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED IN A BAD ACCIDENT THINKING THAT ABS BRAKES AND THERE BRAKING SYSTEM IS RELIABLE. THE 09 VW ROUTAN HAS NEEDED BRAKES AND ROTORS REPLACED EVERY 9 MONTHS. TO DATE VW HAS COVERED THE COST OF REPLACEMENT UNDER WARRANTY HOWEVER HAVE YET TO MAKE A RECALL ON THESE PARTS.

BOUGHT THE VAN IN SEPT OF 2009 WITH APPROXIMATELY 1000 MILES. WERE TOLD IT WAS A DEMO VEHICLE FOR AUTO SHOWS. HAD TO BRING IT BACK WITHIN A COUPLE OF WEEKS FOR BRAKE ISSUES...POUNDING-PULSATING WHEN STOPPING. BRAKE ROTORS AND PADS CONTINUALLY PULSATE. PROBLEM IS WORSE WHEN STOPPING ON THE DOWNHILL OR WHEN BRAKES ARE HEATED OR PRESSURED. FEEL LIKE WE LOSE BREAKING ABILITY WHEN BREAKING ON THE DOWNHILL. WE HAVE BROUGHT THE CAR IN MULTIPLE TIMES TO HAVE THE SITUATION CORRECTED. UNDER WARRANTEE AGREEMENT, ROTORS HAVE BEEN REPLACED A COUPLE OF TIMES, PADS REPLACED SEVERAL TIMES AT VOLKSWAGON'S EXPENSE. PROBLEM CONTINUES TO OCCUR. LAST SERVICE (5/10/11) AT VOLKSWAGON DEALERSHIP, BRAKES WERE INSPECTED AND WE WERE TOLD NUMEROUS PROBLEMS NEEDED FIXING INCLUDING FRONT AND REAR ROTORS RESURFACED, PADS, ETC. BUT EVEN THOUGH CAR WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTEE, THEY WOULD NOT COVER THE REPAIRS AND WE WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THEM. VOLKSWAGON HAS RECORDS OF SERVICE TO OUR VAN SO KNOW OF THE ONGOING ISSUE WITH THE BRAKES FROM THE TIME WE PURCHASED IT. WE HAVE SPOKEN TO OTHER OWNER WHO IS EXPERIENCING SAME ISSUE WITH HER BRAKES. WE FEEL THAT VOLKSWAGON NEEDS TO HELP SOLVE THIS PROBLEM AS OBVIOUSLY REPLACING ROTORS AND PADS DOES NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM. WE USE THIS CAR TO TRAVEL BETWEEN HOMES IN CT AND FL AND FEEL THAT THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH, THE ESC WARNING LIGHT SUDDENLY DISPLAYED, AND THE BRAKING SYSTEM ERRONEOUSLY ACTIVATED CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO ABRUPTLY STOP. I AM HAVING ALL KINDS OF BRAKE PROBLEMS! I HAD TO REPLACE ALL THE PADS AND ROTORS WHICH WHERE BADLY RUSTED AT 28000.AND NOW AT 44000 I WILL HAVE TO REPLACE THEM ALL AGAIN AND CALLIBORS I ALSO HAD ALL 4 TIRES GO FLAT AT DIFFERENT TIMES BECAUSE OF VALVE SENSORS CORRODING AND FALLING INTO TIRES! SKYLIGHT LEAKS! DRIVERS SIDE SLIDING DOOR DOES NOT CLOSE AUTOMATICLY!RUBER ON RUNNING BOURDS KEPT COMMING OFF.DEALER FINNALY REINBURSED ME AFTER GOING BACK 2 OR3 TIMES TO HAVE THEM GLUE IT DOWN. I SPEND MORE TIME TRYING TO FIX IT THAN DRIVING IT IT ONLY HAS 44000 MILES! VEHICLE IS A LEMMON!

WE HAVE HAD BRAKE PROBLEMS SINCE WE BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE. THE BRAKES WOBBLE AND MAKE NOISE. IT STARTED WITH LESS THAN 15,000 MILES ON THE CAR. WE HAVE HAD TO REPLACE PADS AND ROTORS SEVERAL TIMES. ONCE UNDER WARRANTED AND A FEW TIMES AFTER. WE HAVE HAD TO CHANGE THE HEARINGS AS WELL AS THE BRAKES AND ROTORS. THE PROBLEM IS PRIMARILY WITH THE FRONT WHEELS AND BRAKES. WE ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM AGAIN. THE INTERNET IS FULL OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ISSUE.

WHILE TAKING MY GRANDSON TO SCHOOL THIS MORNING ON A VERY CURVY COUNTRY ROAD THE ENGINE DIED ON MY 2009 VOLKSWAGON ROUTAIN. HAVING NO BRAKES AND NO POWER STEERING MADE IT VERY DIFFICULT TO CONTROL VEHICLE. I TURNED ON EMERGENCY FLASHERS WHEN CAR FINALLY STOPED TURNED TO OFF POSITION THEN RESTARTED ENGINE. THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME AND MY WIFE. PROBLEM CANNOT BE DIAGNOSED BY DEALER WHY CAN'T CHRYSLER FIX THIS SERIOUS PROBLEM BEFORE SOMEONE GETS INJURED OR KILLED. I KNOW AS WELL AS NHTSA THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED TO MANY PEOPLE. PREVIOUS RECALL FIX FOR IGNITION SWITCH AT WV DEALER TO SOLVE THIS PROBLEM DID NOT WORK . ITS A SHAME THAT MANY PEOPLE HAVE TO INJURED OR KILLED BY A SERIOUS KNOWN PROBLEM LIKE THIS BEFORE COMPANIES ARE FORCED TO FIX THEM.

AFTER MY VAN HAS BEEN SITTING FOR A WHILE AND IT BEEN WARMED UP FOR 15 MINUTES. WITH IN THE FIRST 2 TO 5 MILES OF DRIVING THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT WILL COME ON AND THE VAN WILL SHUT OFF AND THE STEERING WHEEL AND BREAK WILL FAIL. THEN I HAVE TO TURN THE KEY TO OFF AND RESTART THE VAN AND IT SOMETIME REPEAT ITSELF IF I'M STUCK IN TRAFFIC.

I BOUGHT THIS ROUTAN APROX 8 MONTHS AGO,NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS,IT HAS SHUT DOWN IN CITY TRAFFIC AND HIGHWAY SPEEDS,I AM AWARE OF RECALL #28H1 FROM VW THAT 2 VW DEALERSHIPS DENY EVEN EXIST.THE DEALER I BOUGHT THIS FROM TEST AND DIAGNOSED IT AS A DEFECTIVE WINS MODULE { IGNITION SWITCH } AND CONTACTED A VW DEALERSHIP IN BARRE VERMONT AND SAID THEY WOULD ORDER A MODULE AND SCHEDULED A DATE TO INSTALL IT,A COUPLE OF DAYS BEFORE APPOINTMENT I MYSELF DECIDE TO BRING IN MYSELF AND CALLED TO VERIFY THE DATE AND TIME,THERE SERVICE DEPARTMENT ASKED ME FOR A RECALL NUMBER OF WHICH AT THE TIME I DID NOT HAVE BECAUSE MY SERVICE MANAGER WHERE I BOUGHT IT FROM SET THIS UP.AFTER TRACKING DOWN THE CORRECT SERVICE REP AT WALKER VW IN BARRE VERMONT SHE INFORMED ME THEY DID NOT ORDER THE PART AND THERE IS NO WINS MODULES AVAILABLE YET 06/01/15 EVEN THOUGH THIS RECALL WAS DATED IN MARCH OF 2014 ,STILL NO FIX WHATS UP WITH THAT ? WE HAVE OWNED THE VEHICLE FOR ABOUT 2 MONTHS WITH NO ISSUES, WHEN WE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE IT CAME WITH A CLEAN CARFAX LISTING NO RECALLS. ON 3/10/15 MY WIFE WAS DRIVING ON A 2 LANE COUNTRY ROAD GOING ABOUT 35MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY LOST POWER AND SHE LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THE ENGINE APPEARED TO HAVE CUT OUT, SHE HAD NO POWER STEERING AND NO POWER BRAKES AND WAS UNABLE TO STOP OR STEER THE VEHICLE. THE DASH DISPLAYED THE ANTI-SLIP LIGHT, BUT NO OTHERS. THE VEHICLE SLOWED DOWN TO A STOP, THANKFULLY THERE WAS NO ONCOMING TRAFFIC AS SHE WAS NO LONGER IN HER PROPER LANE, AND NO CARS BEHIND HER. SHE WAS ABLE TO PUT IT IN PARK AND RESTART IT AS IF NOTHING HAD HAPPENED AND IT WAS FINE AFTER THAT FOR THE REST OF HER COMMUTE. WE CONTACTED VW ABOUT THE ISSUE AND THEY REQUESTED THAT WE BRING THE CAR TO A VW DEALER FOR INSPECTION. WE DID THAT, AND VW CLAIMED THAT OUR VEHICLE WAS NOT IMPACTED BY RECALL # RNA1, BUT INSTEAD THEY INSISTED THE ISSUE WAS CAUSED BY A FAULTY EGR VALVE, AND GAVE ME AN ENGINE TROUBLE CODE OF C121C THAT THEY CLAIMED CORRESPONDED WITH THE FAILING EGR VALVE. VW CHARGED ME OVER $100 FOR THE DIAGNOSIS, AND A DAY LATER AFTER COMPLAINING TO VW CUSTOMER CARE THEY AGREED TO REFUND THE CHARGES. I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE INDEPENDENT DEALERSHIP THAT I ORIGINALLY PURCHASED THE CAR AT THE SAME DAY THAT VW DIAGNOSED THIS, AND THEY WERE NOT IN AGREEMENT WITH THE EGR DIAGNOSIS, AND ALSO COULD NOT CORROBORATE THE TROUBLE CODE C121C AS BEING RELATED TO AN EGR ISSUE, RATHER IT COMES UP AS A TORQUE REQUEST SIGNAL DENIED TROUBLE CODE INSTEAD. THE INDEPENDENT DEALER ALSO FOUND THAT I HAD STORED CODES FOR ABS MALFUNCTIONS, SUNROOF ERRORS AND MIC/CCN INSTRUMENT CLUSTER. THE INDEPENDENT DEALER CLEARED THESE CODES BEFORE LEAVING THAT DAY. I HAVE A VOLKSWAGEN 2009 VW ROUTON VAN...AKA REBADGED CHRYSLER MINI VAN. THE OEM TPMS HAS A NON-ANODIZED ALUMINUM VALVE RETAINING NUT WHICH CRACKED AND CAUSED A DEFLATION AT HIGHWAY SPEED ON THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE TIRE. TO HAVE A SAFETY DEVICE THAT CAUSES AN UNSAFE CONDITION AND A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE THAT COULD LEAD TO INJURY OR DEATH IS UNACCEPTABLE. I HAVE INSPECTED THE OTHER THREE RETAINING NUTS ON THE VALVE STEMS AND FOUND ONE THAT IS CRACKED AND THE OTHERS HAVE SEVERE CORROSION THAT WILL NEED REPAIRED AND REPLACED. RECENTLY I NOTICED A LOW TIRE PRESSURE ON THE LEFT FRONT WHEEL OF MY VOLKSWAGEN ROUTAN. WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO ADD AIR TO THE TIRE, THE STEM PUSHED INTO THE WHEEL AND THE TIRE DEFLATED. THE METAL TIRE PRESSURE STEM IS ATTACHED TO TIRE PRESSURE SENSING UNITS ON EACH WHEEL. WHEN I EXAMINED THE STEM I NOTICED THAT THE NUT THAT LOCKS THE STEM IN POSITION HAD DISINTEGRATED FROM CORROSION. THE ONLY THING HOLDING THE STEM IN POSITION WAS THE PRESSURE WITHIN THE TIRE. WHEN THE STEM WAS TOUCHED AND MOVED, THE TIRE IMMEDIATELY DEFLATED. I FOUND THE SAME DEFECT ON THE OTHER WHEELS. ANY CONTACT WITH THE TIRE PRESSURE SERVICING STEM, CAUSED THE RETAINING NUT TO BREAK OFF INTO PIECES. EACH STEM AND RETAINING NUT SHOWED SIGNS OF SEVERE CORROSION. DUE TO THE EXTREME HIGH COST OF REPLACEMENT SENSORS, I WAS FORCED TO REPLACE THE SENSORS WITH STANDARD RUBBER TIRE STEMS. THE VEHICLE IS A 2009 WITH ONLY 36,000 MILES. THE VEHICLE IS EXPOSED TO ROAD SALT AND IM SURE THAT ACCELERATED THE CORROSION OF THE ATTACHING NUT, BUT THIS IS A SERIOUS DESIGN FLAW THAT MIGHT RESULT IN A TIRE DEFLATION WITHOUT WARNING. I FEEL THESE SENSORS ARE DEFECTIVE AND NEED TO BE RECALLED. THIS IS A SINGLE VEHICLE WITH LOW MILEAGE, HAVING FOUR SEVERELY CORRODED AND FAILED TIRE PRESSURE SENSORS. I SUSPECT THERE ARE MANY OTHERS. THESE FAULTY SENSORS COULD VERY WELL BE THE CAUSE OF A SERIOUS ACCIDENT OR INJURY. IT SEEMS TO BE A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THE CAR DEALER BUT I DONT BELIEVE THERE IS ANY SPECIFIC INSPECTION OR SERVICE REQUIREMENTS FOR THESE VALVES/SENSORS. WHILE DRIVING ON THE I-94 IN SHEBOYGAN, WI, MY TIRE PRESSURE LIGHT WENT ON. I STOPPED AT A VALVOLINE TIRE AND LUBE TO HAVE THE TIRES LOOKED AT AS MY REAR TIRE WAS ALMOST FLAT. THE PERSON WAS UNABLE TO FILL THE TIRE WITH AIR BECAUSE THE VALVE STEM WAS PUSHED COMPLETELY INTO THE TIRE AND THERE WAS NO WAY TO FILL THE TIRE. AT CLOSER INSPECTION ALL FOUR TIRE VALVE STEMS AND SENSOR ASSEMBLIES WERE CORRODED TO THE POINT THAT THEY WOULD ALL NEED TO BE REPLACED IMMEDIATELY. VW STATED THAT THIS IS NOT A WARRANTY OR RECALL ISSUE AND THAT IT WOULD COST OVER $200 EACH WITH LABOR. I BOUGHT MY VW ROUTAN USED IN SEPTEMBER 2014. ON MONDAY, OCTOBER 4TH, 2010, I PULLED INTO MY DRIVEWAY AND PLACED THE 2009 VOLKSWAGEN ROUTAN IN PARK. THE ENGINE WAS STILL RUNNING WHILE I FINISHED UP A PHONE CALL THROUGH THE BLUETOOTH AND PROCEEDED TO LISTEN TO THE RADIO WHILE CLEANING OUT THE VAN. I WALKED AROUND THE EXTERIOR OF THE VEHICLE LEANING IN TO CLEAN THE INTERIOR OF THE CAR. I NEEDED TO GO INSIDE THE HOUSE, SO, STANDING OUTSIDE DRIVER'S SIDE OF THE VAN I REACHED ACROSS THE SEAT TO TURN OFF THE ENGINE AND REMOVE THE KEYS. AS SOON AS I DID THIS, THE VAN JOLTED BACKWARD AND CONTINUED TO TRAVEL DOWN MY DRIVEWAY. MY UPPER BODY WAS STILL INSIDE THE CAR. I TRIED TO DEPRESS THE EMERGENCY BRAKE WITH MY RIGHT HAND WHILE I HELD TIGHTLY ONTO THE STEERING WHEEL WITH MY LEFT. The brackets that hold the automatic door wires brake continuously. Then the wire gets pinched in the door and it causes a large amount of electrical problems. The abs, esp bad, brake, and traction control lights come on when the wire gets pinched. These doors were made very poorly and should have been looked over before this vehicle was made.

WE HAVE HAD A PROBLEM WITH OUR VOLKSWAGEN ROUTAN SINCE NEARLY DAY ONE. WHILE PARKED ON ANY TYPE OF SURFACE, (HILL, OR FLAT, DOWN HILL, OR UP HILL). ON OCCASION THE DOOR WHILE OPENING OR CLOSING WILL RE-CLOSE OR NOT OPEN. THIS HAS BEEN VERY DANGEROUS WHEN YOU HAVE A 4 YEAR OLD GET IN THE DOOR BEFORE DOOR HAS COME TO COMPLETE REST. INTERIOR LIGHTS COME ON AUTOMATICALLY DURING DRIVING. HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE TO A VW DEALER 4 TIMES FOR THIS ISSUE AND THEY CANNOT DIAGNOSES, NOR REMEDY THE ISSUE. I HAVE SPENT WELL OVER $2,000 FOR THESE VW DEALER VISITS. THIS VEHICLE WAS BUILT BY CHRYSLER FOR VW AND CHRYSLER ISSUED A RECALL ON THE TIPM FOR THE CHRYSLER VEHICLES. VW REFUSES TO ISSUE A RECALL FOR THE TIPM. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE THAT CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO SHUT OFF DURING DRIVING AND ALL POWER AND BRAKING FUNCTIONS ARE LOST. AT THIS TIME, I HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO PAY AN ADDITIONAL $1,500 TO HAVE VW REPLACE THE TIPM IN THE HOPES THAT IT RESOLVES THIS DANGEROUS SAFETY ISSUE AND KEEPS MY FAMILY SAFE. WHILE DRIVING TYPICALLY AT SPEEDS LESS THAN 45 MPH THE VEHICLE ENGINE WILL SHUT DOWN AND ELECTRICAL POWER AT THE DASH IS LOST. VEHICLE WILL RESTART AFTER IT SHUTS DOWN. PROBLEM IS NOT CONSISTENT. DEALER CAN NOT VERIFY THE COMPLAINT, THEREFORE CAN NOT REPAIR. NHTSA RECALL 14V396 APPEARS TO BE THE CORRECTION FOR THE ISSUE. DEALER WILL NOT PERFORM THE RECALL UNTIL THEY DUPLICATE THE ISSUE. THE IGNITION SWITCH HAS FAILED MULTIPLE TIMES LEAVING US STRANDED. WE HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED. OUR MECHANIC HAS RUN MULTIPLE DIAGNOSTICS TO NO AVAIL, THEY REPLACED THE STARTER AND WE CONTINUE TO EXPERIENCE IGNITION FAILURE. AT TIMES, THE CAR WILL START AND NOT GO INTO GEAR. WE HAVE BEEN ABLE TO GET IT INTO GEAR BY TURNING IT OFF AND BACK ON AGAIN, ASSUMING IT WILL TURN BACK ON AGAIN. THERE IS DANGER IN BEING STRANDED FAR FROM HOME WITH CHILDREN IN THE CAR.

I TOOK MY VAN INTO THE VW DEALER TO GET THE SAFETY RECALL #28H1 PERFORMED TO REPLACE THE IGNITION SWITCH. THE DEALER DISCOVERED THAT THERE WAS AN AFTERMARKET REMOTE START INSTALLED AND TOLD ME THAT THEY WILL NOT PERFORM THE RECALL SERVICE UNTIL I GET ALL THE WIRING CONNECTORS BACK TO STOCK. I TOOK UP THIS ISSUE WITH THE VW CORPORATE OFFICE AND THEY GAVE ME THE SAME ANSWER. I DON'T SEE HOW THIS AFTERMARKET REMOTE STARTER ABSOLVES VW FROM THE RESPONSIBILITY TO PERFORM THE SAFETY RECALL. IT IS THEIR DEFECTIVE PART THAT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. I TOLD THE DEALER THAT I DON'T CARE ABOUT THE REMOTE STARTER, I JUST WANT THE SAFETY RECALL TO BE DONE AS THEY ARE RESPONSIBLE TO DO.

TOOK 2009 VW ROUTAN TO LOCAL DEALERSHIP IN 2010 DUE TO SAFETY RECALL ON SLIDING DOORS (FAULTY WIRE HARNESS). PASSENGER SIDE DOOR WAS FITTED WITH TIE WRAP. I HAVE EXPERIENCED MECHANICAL DEFECTS WITH THE POWER SLIDING DOOR FEATURE ON BOTH SIDES OF THE 2009 VW ROUTAN SE. THE DEFECT HAS BEEN REPAIRED A TOTAL OF FOUR TIMES SINCE ITS PURCHASE, TWICE BEFORE THE NHTSA SAFETY RECALL ON THE POWER SLIDING DOORS AND TWICE AFTER THE RECALL. THE DEFECTIVE POWER SLIDING DOORS HAVE UNLATCHED AND OPENED WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE, EVEN AFTER THE POWER LOCKS ACTIVATE. IN ADDITION, THE SENSORS ON THE POWER SLIDING DOORS HAVE FAILED TO RETRACT, RESULTING IN HANDS BEING TRAPPED. LASTLY, I HAVE FOUND THE POWER SLIDING DOORS OPEN UPON RETURN TO THE VEHICLE AFTER CLOSING AND LOCKING IT. I HAVE EXPRESSED MY CONCERNS TO VW'S LOCAL SERVICE DEPARTMENT AND HAVE CONTACTED VW'S CUSTOMER CARE DEPARTMENT. The contact owned a 2009 Volkswagen Routan. The contact stated that while driving at 65 MPH, the contact suffered a medical emergency and lost control of the vehicle. The contact's vehicle crashed into the rear of a semi-truck. In addition, the contact's vehicle crashed into a ditch. The contact stated that the air bags did not deploy. The paramedics and the Police arrived on the scene. A Police report was filed, however thePolice report information was unavailable. The contact sustained eight broken ribs on the left side and two broken ribs on the right side, injury to the left eye which needed stitches, major trauma to the left lung and bruises and cuts. The contact was taken to the local hospital by ambulance. The vehicle was condemned a total loss. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 150,000.

SINCE BUYING OUR 2009 ROUTAN IN THE FALL OF 2016 WE HAVE SUNK THOUSANDS INTO IT TRYING TO GET IT FIXED BECAUSE OF THE ISSUES WE HAVE HAD SHORTLY AFTER BUYING IT (OURS DID NOT COME WITH A WARRANTY FROM THE VW DEALER). AT LEAST TWICE A WEEK, AND SOMETIMES MORE, IT STALLS WHILE WE ARE DRIVING...USUALLY AT LOW SPEEDS LIKE WHEN WE ARE SLOWING DOWN TO MAKE A TURN OR SLOWING DOWN FOR A STOPLIGHT. USUALLY, ALL OF THE DASHBOARD LIGHTS AND CONTROLS WILL BLINK AND DING REPEATEDLY BEFORE STALLING. IT ALSO STALLS WHEN SITTING STILL. IT WILL BLINK ALL OF THE LIGHTS, THE CONTROLS WILL GO CRAZY AND THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS WILL GO BACK AND FORTH ONE TIME AS IT STALLS. WE HAVE REPLACED THE BATTERY, THE CONTROL MODULE (ONE OF THE MOST EXPENSIVE THINGS WE TRIED), THE ERG VALVE, THE ALTERNATOR, AND SOME OTHER PARTS OUR MECHANIC WANTED TO TRY. MY WIFE TOOK OUR 2009 VW ROUTAN MINIVAN TO A VW DEALERSHIP TODAY TO REPAIR INOPERABLE ELECTRONIC DOOR LOCKS AND FAULTY HEADLIGHTS (SEPARATE COMPLAIN FILED), AT WHICH TIME SHE WAS INFORMED OF AN IGNITION PROBLEM RECALL. THE IGNITION PART WAS PLACED ON ORDER AND MY WIFE WAS TOLD THE PART HAD TO BE SHIPPED FROM OUT OF STATE AND SHOULD ARRIVE WITHIN FIVE DAYS. MY WIFE ASKED, AND WAS INFORMED THE VEHICLE WAS SAFE TO OPERATE; HOWEVER, I LOOKED UP THE RECALL WHEN I GOT HOME FROM WORK AND DISCOVERED THE RECALL SPECIFICALLY STATES THE ENGINE CAN SHUT OF DURING OPERATION DUE TO ADDED WEIGHT FROM OTHER KEYS OR KEY RINGS ON THE VW KEY FOB. ACCORDING TO THE RECALL, DEALERSHIP AND MAINTENANCE PERSONNEL ARE SUPPOSED TO INFORM CUSTOMERS TO REMOVE ADDED KEYS FROM THE FOB. MY WIFE WAS DRIVING OUR VAN WHEN SHE PULLED OUT ONTO THE MAIN ROAD FROM OUR DRIVEWAY WHEN THE VEHICLE LOST ALL POWER, INCLUDING POWER STEERING AND BRAKES. FORTUNATELY THERE WAS NO ACCIDENT BUT SHE DID HAVE TO STOP THE VEHICLE AND CYCLE THE KEYSWITCH TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. I HAVE CONTACTED THE CLOSEST DEALER TO HAVE THIS KNOWN RECALL FIXED ON OUR VAN ONLY TO BE TOLD THEY HAVE TO WITNESS THIS EVENT HAPPENING. THOUGH THIS HAS HAPPENED 3 TIMES SINCE WE BOUGHT THE CAR USED 3 MONTHS AGO IT IS A VERY INTERMITTENT ISSUE. DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY ONE NIGHT AND THE ANTI-LOCK SYSTEM IS ACTIVATING BY ITSELF. TOOK IT TO A SHOP AND THEY TOLD ME THE STEERING ANGLE SENSOR NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. WHICH IS THE WHOLE CLOCKSPRING. THEY TOLD ME THE SENSOR IS SAYING I'M AT A 42 DEGREE ANGLE WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL IS STRAIGHT. THE ANGLE OF THE SENSOR SHOULD BE 0-15 DEGREES. BECAUSE OF THIS IT'S TELLING THE ANTI-LOCK SYSTEM THAT I'M ABOUT TO FLIP CAUSING THE BRAKES TO APPLY BY THEMSELVES. I'M NOT ABLE TO DRIVE OVER 20MPH WITHOUT IT ACTIVATING THE ANTI-LOCK SYSTEM. FOR ME TO GET A NEW WIN MODULE, THE DEALERSHIP SAID IT WOULD BE $2,000 AND A LONG ESTIMATED TIME WITHOUT THE CAR. THIS CAR IS BLUE BOOKED AS ONLY WORTH $3,500.00. THIS IS AGAIN A FAULTY PIECE THAT SHOULD BE COVERED BY THE RECALL. THE CAR ONLY HAS 75K MILES. THERE'S NO REASON TO HAVE A CAR WITH 75K MILES AND NEED TWO WIN MODULES SO FAR. I WANT THIS TO BE IN WRITING THAT WHEN I AM DRIVING ON I-95 AND MY CAR SUDDENLY STALLS AND MY 2 1/2 YEAR OLD AND 4 1/2 YEAR OLD AND MYSELF END UP IN A CASKET, IT'S BECAUSE OF THIS FAULTY PRODUCT WHICH THEY WILL NOT COVER AGAIN ON THE RECALL.

WHILE DRIVING AT 65 MPH ON I35, THE CAR'S TRANSMISSION ACTED LIKE IT SLIPPED INTO 2ND GEAR AND THE TACK WENT TO 5000RPM. I TRIED TO JUST SLOW DOWN AND GET OFF THE ROAD, TURNED THE CAR OFF AND BACK ON WHEN I GOT TO A PARKING LOT. I THEN STARTED DRIVING AGAIN AND IT APPEARED TO BE ALRIGHT. WITHIN A FEW DAYS IT DID IT A COUPLE TIMES MORE, THIS TIME TURNING ON THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY COULDN'T DUPLICATE PROBLEM IN THE WEEK THEY HAD IT. PICKED IT UP FROM THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS ABOUT 10 TO 15 MILES AWAY AND IT DID IT AGAIN. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER THE NEXT DAY AND IT HAS BEEN THERE FOR TWO WEEKS. THEY TOLD ME AN ENGINEER FROM CORPORATE CAME TO CHECK IT OUT AND DURING THAT TIME THEY HAD ANOTHER CAR - SAME YEAR, SAME STYLE, EVEN SAME COLOR COME INTO THE SHOP WITH THE SAME PROBLEM AND THEY VERIFIED THE PROBLEM ON BOTH OF THE CARS. THEY SAID IT WAS THE TRANSMISSION AND IT IS GOING TO COST SOMEWHERE AROUND $5000.00 +/- TO GET IT FIXED. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS PROBLEM AND I AM HOPING THAT SOMETHING WILL BE DONE ABOUT IT. THERE ARE NUMEROUS STORIES ON THE INTERNET WITH PEOPLE IN VOLKSWAGENS THAT HAVE HAD THE SAME OR SIMILAR PROBLEMS. CANNOT SEE WHY THERE HASN'T BEEN A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM. THEY EVEN ADMITTED THAT THEY HAD SEEN THE SAME OR SIMILAR PROBLEMS POSTED ON THE INTERNET.

IN JULY 2012 I BOUGHT A CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED 2009 VOLKSWAGEN ROUTAN MINIVAN. I HAVE REPORTED THE FOLLOWING MAJOR SAFETY PROBLEMS ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS TO NO RESOLVE: LOSS OF POWER' THE CAR WILL COMPLETELY LOSE POWER AND THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKS WHILE DRIVING. FOR EX ON 12/22 FROM 5:32P ' 10:48P, THE CAR LOST POWER AND STEERING WHEEL LOCKED 11 TIMES. SLIDING DOORS AUTOMATICALLY OPEN ' THE DOORS WILL NOT CLOSE SECURELY, WON'T OPEN, OR WILL APPEAR CLOSED AND SPONTANEOUSLY REOPEN. THERE HAVE BEEN SEVERAL TIMES WE WILL GO OUT FOR THE EVENING OR COME OUT FOR WORK IN THE MORNING AND BOTH DOORS ARE OPENED. WE TOOK THE CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED VEHICLE TO BE SERVICED 8XS WITHIN THE WARRANTY TIME AND WE WERE TOLD EACH TIME BECAUSE THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS NOT ON TO TRIGGER A CODE THAT OUTLINE THE PROBLEMS THERE WAS NOTHING THAT COULD BE DONE. WE HAVE SUFFERED A GREAT DEAL OF PERSONAL AND EMOTIONAL STRESS AS THESE ARE CRITICAL AND HIGHLY DANGEROUS HIGHWAY SAFETY CONCERNS. AFTER CONDUCTING SOME RESEARCH, THE CONTACT FOUND THAT THE MANUFACTURER PLACED A CHRYSLER ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION INTO HER VOLKSWAGEN VEHICLE. THE INDEPENDENT MECHANIC COMPLETED THE REPAIRS WITH ANOTHER NEW CHRYSLER TRANSMISSION SOLENOID PART. WHILE THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, THE VEHICLE LOST COMPLETE ACCELERATION AND HAD TO BE PULLED OVER TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD. IT WAS NOTED BY DEALERSHIP AFTER A TEST DRIVE NO FAULTS FOUND. ON 3/19/15 AT 58,611 MILES CAR RETURNED TO DEALERSHIP. SAME CLUNKING AND GRINDING NOISES. FAULTS: P0868, P1790 & P0944. PRESSURE READINGS TO LOW IN TCM CONTROL WIRES. TRANSMISSION TO BE REPLACED PER DEALERSHIP. FINDINGS: UNDER DRIVE CLUTCHES WORN OUT, SUNGEARS AND ASSEMBLY DAMAGED WITH METAL METAL FRAGMENTS. ON 4/30/2015 AND 59,215 MILES, CAR RETURNED TO DEALERSHIP FOR SAME GRINDING AND CLUNKING NOISES. DEALERSHIP PERFORMED ANOTHER "QUICK LEARN TEST." ON 6/21/15, I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY WITH CRUISE CONTROL SET AT APPROXIMATELY 75MPH. I WAS NOT ACCELERATING, NOR HAD MY FOOT ON THE GAS OR BRAKE PETAL. WITHOUT ANY WARNING, THE GAS PETAL PUSHED TO THE FLOOR AND THE VEHICLE BEGAN ACCELERATING QUICKLY. I IMMEDIATELY TURNED ON MY HAZARDS AND TURNED OFF THE CRUISE, BUT THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE IN EXCESS OF 100MPH. I FEARED COLLIDING WITH OTHER DRIVERS ON THE TWO-LANED HIGHWAY, AND BEGAN BRAKING AGAINST THE CAR'S ACCELERATION, WHICH WAS QUITE DIFFICULT. I PUSHED THE BRAKE PETAL DOWN AS HARD AS I COULD, WHICH STOPPED FURTHER ACCELERATION; BUT DID NOT SLOW THE VEHICLE QUICKLY. THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO REV UP AND TRIED RELENTLESSLY TO ACCELERATE AGAINST MY BEST EFFORTS TO BRAKE. I WAS ABLE TO MOVE THE VEHICLE TO THE GRAVEL SHOULDER. ONCE I WAS ABLE TO SLOW THE VEHICLE TO AROUND 20MPH, I TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE AND COASTED TO A STOP. THERE WAS A STRONG SMELL OF SMOKE FROM THE BRAKES. I BELIEVED THE PROBLEM WAS RELATED TO A CRUISE CONTROL MALFUNCTION OR A RELATED SENSOR. I DISCONTINUED USING THE CRUISE AT ANY TIME. HOWEVER, ON 7/9/15, THE SAME PROBLEM OCCURRED. THIS TIME, THE CRUISE WAS NOT SET, AND THE VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING AT APPROXIMATELY 50MPH IN HEAVY TRAFFIC DURING RUSH HOUR ON A THREE LANE FREEWAY. THE SAME STEPS NOTED ABOVE SLOWED THE VEHICLE AFTER IT BEGAN ACCELERATING OUT OF CONTROL, MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO NAVIGATE THROUGH THE SURROUNDING VEHICLES. THE GAS PETAL WAS AGAIN STUCK TO THE FLOOR AND COULD NOT BE PULLED UP. AFTER THE SECOND OCCURRENCE, THERE IS LIKELY SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE TO THE BRAKES AND/OR ENGINE. I CONTACTED A VOLKSWAGEN DEALERSHIP, THAT PLANS TO DIAGNOSE THE VEHICLE. I AM FEARFUL OF DRIVING THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP, BUT WAS INSTRUCTED BY THE VW SALES MANAGER TO BRING THE VEHICLE IN FOR INSPECTION AND BE SURE TO TURN THE KEY TO "OFF" OR "ACCESSORY" SHOULD THE PROBLEM OCCUR AGAIN.

WE HAVE HAD SEVERAL OCCASIONS WHERE THE VAN COMPLETELY SHUTS OFF EVEN WHILE RUNNING. WAS TOLD THAT ALL IT NEEDED WAS NEW BATTERY. PAID FOR IT AND GOT IT TO START ONLY TO SHUT DOWN AGAIN TWO DAYS LATER. TOOK IT BACK AGAIN AND WAS TOLD THAT IT IS NOT THE RECALL ITS SOMETHING ELSE THATS CAUSING FOR THE CAR TO SHUT OFF. REPLACED SLIDING DOOR HARNESS AND FAILED BATTERY. WHEN I QUESTIONED THE FAULTY PART POSSIBLY BEING A RECALL ISSUE I WAS TOLD IT WAS NOT. COST=$624.48 + RENTAL CAR. *IT IS IMPORTANT TO NOTE HERE THAT I HAD JUST CROSSED OVER A VERY LONG LARGE BRIDGE. CHECKING SYSTEM I FOUND ONLY PUSHING REMOTE START BUTTON WILL START THE VEHICLE UNLOCKED. After getting wires regrounded at the mechanic, the car continues to malfunction. The wiper blades turn on, the entire dash blinks, the seat moves back and forth, resetting repeatedly. If seat is disconnected for safety, the seatbelt does not register as secured. Eventually doors stop functioning, have completely lost lock function, tried replacing battery and sending to mechanic specialist. Still the car malfunctions at random.

I JUST PURCHASED THE 2009 VOLKSWAGEN ROUTAN. I HAVE HAD IT 3 WEEKS IT RANDOMLY DIED WHEN TEST DRIVING THE VAN AND ALL THE ALARMS AND LIGHTS CAME ON. WE JUST THOUGHT I DIDN'T HAVE THE FOB IN RIGHT. THEY ALSO CONFIRMED THAT A FAULTY TIPM BOX WILL CAUSE SOLENOID ISSUES AND EVENTUALLY RUIN THE NEW ONE, TOO. *RECENTLY, ALL LOCKS STOPPED WORKING & THE VEHICLE CAN ONLY BE OPENED & LOCKED MANUALLY. AT THE SAME TIME ALL INTERIOR LIGHTS WERE ON AND HAD TO BE TURNED OFF AT THE DASHBOARD- THIS WOULD HAVE DRAINED THE BATTERY HAD IT HAPPENED ON A WORK DAY. VW HAS HAD THE VEHICLE FOR 2 FULL DAYS AND YET DOESN'T KNOW WHAT'S WRONG WITH IT. WE HAVE HAD THESE ISSUES AND USELESS REPAIRS FOR OVER 2 YEARS. THE ELECTRONIC DOOR (SIDE PANEL, PASSENGER, AND DRIVER) DOOR LOCKS STOPPED WORKING. AT ABOUT THE SAME TIME OUR FRONT HEADLIGHTS BEGAN TO INTERMITTENTLY GO OUT DURING OPERATION OF THE VEHICLE, AND THEN STOPPED WORKING ALTOGETHER. THE VEHICLE WAS SUBMITTED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND CUSTOMER WAS INFORMED THAT THE HEADLIGHT BALLAST WAS WORN OUT AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. PARTS WERE ORDERED AND WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN IN FOR SAID BALLAST REPLACEMENT ANOTHER MECHANIC STATED THIS WAS NOT A BALLAST ISSUE SINCE THE HEADLIGHTS APPEARED TO TURN ON DURING IGNITION, BUT THEN STOPPED WORKING SHORTLY AFTERWARDS. WE HAD TO WAIT UNTIL THE NEXT DAY FOR A DEALER ELECTRICIAN TO LOOK AT THE VEHICLE. THE ELECTRICIAN DETERMINED A CORRODED CONTROL PANEL WAS CAUSING A SHORT AND LIKELY CAUSING DOOR THE HEADLIGHT, AS WELL AS OTHER ISSUES SUCH AS INCORRECT TIRE PRESSURE AND SPEED INDICATIONS AND POSSIBLE FIRE. NO WATER WAS INTRODUCED TO THE VEHICLE, SO MY QUESTION IS HOW DOES A CONTROL PANEL CORRODE UNLESS THERE IS A FAULTY VOLTAGE ISSUE AND ELECTRICAL DESIGN DEFECT? THE MECHANIC INDICATED THE DEALER GETS A LOT OF THESE ISSUES ON THE ROUTAN BUT THERE IS NO RECALL SO THEY CHARGE $900 FOR THE REPLACEMENT PANEL. TO WORK THE PROBLEM THE REAR BRAKE ROTORS AND PADS WERE REPLACED BY THE OEM THREE MONTHS AFTER PURCHASING THE VEHICLE. THE PROBLEM PERSISTED & AFTER REPEATED VISITS TO THE DEALER THE FRONT BRAKES AND ROTORS WERE REPLACED BY THE OEM AT 15,019 MILES ON OCTOBER 27, 2010. VIBRATION DURING BREAKING STILL PERSISTED AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS BUT WAS MANAGEABLE. IN JULY OF 2013 HEAVY VIBRATION RETURNED. THE DEALER INFORMED US ALL FOUR TIRES HAD UNEVEN WEAR AND WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED, ALONG WITH ALL 4 AIR PRESSURE GAUGES. SHAKING CONTINUED SO WE THEN PAID TO HAVE THE FRONT ROTORS AND BRAKE PADS REPLACED AGAIN AT 47,300 MILES (APPX) ON AUGUST 6, 2013. AS OF NOW THE VEHICLE STILL VIBRATES AT HIGHWAY SPEED BRAKING ALTHOUGH LESS VIOLENTLY. I HAVE HAD MY VOLKSWAGEN ROUTAN FOR ABOUT A YEAR AND A HALF. IN THAT TIME THE TRANSMISSION HAS GONE OUT TWICE NOW. THE FIRST TIME WAS AT 6K MILES AND IT WAS AT THE DEALER FOR 2 MONTHS BEFORE IT WAS FIXED. THERE WAS EVERY EXCUSE IN THE BOOK, FIRST THEY DIDN'T HAVE A TECH QUALIFIED TO FIX IT SO THEY HAD TO WAIT ON AN OUT OF STATE TECH TO COME IN. PARTS WERE BACKORDERED AND WHEN THEY CAME IN THE "FIX" DIDN'T WORK SO THEY HAD TO ORDER A NEW TRANSMISSION. NOW AT 15K MILES I STARTED HAVING MORE PROBLEMS WITH THE TRANSMISSION AND THE REAR POWER FOLDING SEAT WAS BROKEN. I RELUCTANTLY TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER BUT WAS ASSURED THAT THEY WOULD BE ABLE TO FIX IT IN A SHORT AMOUNT OF TIME. THAT WAS A MONTH AGO, AND IT IS STILL NOT FIXED, THEY ARE WAITING ON PARTS TO COME IN. BESIDES THE BRAKES/ROTORS NOW GOING ON THEIR 4TH SET AND THE CAR IS LESS THAN 2 YEARS OLD, THE FRONT BUMPER LOOKS LIKE IT WAS ABOUT TO FALL OFF, MANY SMALL OTHER PROBLEMS, THIS MORNING MY SON HAD HIS FINGER CAUGHT IN THE SLIDING DOOR AND THE DOOR DID NOT OPEN, IT JUST KEPT TRYING TO SHUT ON HIM. THIS VAN IS HORRIBLE! THE DOOR HAS ACTED UP BEFORE, BUT NEVER LIKE THIS. THE DECALS ON THE DRIVERS DOOR WERE COMING OFF AT ONE POINT AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE TAIL LIGHT ALREADY HAD TO BE REPLACED. HEATING/VENTILATION/AIR CONDITIONING CONTROL PANEL IS MOUNTED LOW IN THE CENTER DASH AREA AND IS ILLUMINATED IN BLUE, MAKING IT ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO READ IN DAYLIGHT. THIS CAUSES THE DRIVER TO TAKE HIS/HER EYES OFF THE ROAD WHEN MAKING ADJUSTMENTS TO THE SETTINGS AND CAN RESULT IN A CRASH. THE 2010 MODEL OF THIS VEHICLE USES WHITE LIGHTING, CORRECTING THE PROBLEM. 2009 MODELS SHOULD BE RECALLED FOR A RETROFIT. *TR

I HAVE A 2009 VOLKSWAGEN ROUTAN. THE THIRD ROW IS A BENCH SEAT, WHICH HAS LATCH COMPATIBILITY IN ONE PLACE. THE OWNER'S MANUAL STATES THAT A CHILD SAFETY SEAT (BOOSTER OR INFANT SEAT) CAN BE INSTALLED USING THE LATCH SYSTEM IN THE CENTER SEAT OF THE THIRD ROW. WHEN A BOOSTER SEAT OR AN INFANT SEAT ARE, IN FACT, INSTALLED IN THIS THIRD ROW, THE CHILD IS ACTUALLY POSITIONED IN BETWEEN THE OUTBOARD SEAT AND THE CENTER SEAT, DUE TO THE POSITION OF THE LATCH "BARS", AND THE CHILD'S HEAD IS IN BETWEEN THE CENTER AND OUTBOARD HEADREST, AND IS NOT PROTECTED BY EITHER HEADREST. THIS ALSO MEANS THAT NEITHER THE CENTER SEATBELT OR OUTBOARD SEATBELT FITS ACROSS MY CHILD AS IT SHOULD - IT IS NOT ACROSS HIS SHOULDER. I TOOK THE CAR TO OUR LOCAL VW AND THEY TOLD ME TO CALL VOLKSWAGEN DIRECTLY; WHEN I DID, I WAS PUT IN TOUCH WITH A MEMBER OF THE SAFETY TEAM WHO COMPLETELY DISMISSED MY CONCERNS AND TOLD ME THAT IF MY LATCH DIDN'T SEEM TO BE IN THE CORRECT POSITIONS, THEN I SHOULD JUST NOT USE THE LATCH. WHEN I ASKED TO SPEAK TO SOMEONE ELSE THAT WOULD TAKE MY CONCERNS SERIOUSLY (THE CHILD IS NOT PROTECTED BY THE SEATBELT OR HEADREST WHEN USING THE LATCH IN THE THIRD ROW AT ALL!!!), I WAS TOLD THERE WAS NO ONE ELSE TO SPEAK TO AN THAT ALL THE ROUTANS WERE MADE THAT WAY AS A "CONVENIENCE" FOR FOLDING DOWN THE SEATS. *TR

BACK UP CAMERA ON THE VOLKSWAGEN ROUTAN MINIVAN IS UNUSABLE. VIDEO HAS NO CONTRAST, LOW COLOR LEVEL, LACKS DETAIL, WRONG COLORS, ETC. THIS CAMERA IS A HAZARD FOR ANYONE THAT TRIES TO USE IT FOR BACKING UP. SAME CAMERA AS ON ALL CHRYSLER MINIVANS. I AM WRITING YOU DUE TO AN INCIDENT THAT HAPPENED TO MY CHILD CONCERNING THE VW ROUTON MINIVAN. WE WERE LOOKING AT ONE ON DISPLAY AT HICKAM AIR FORCE BASE THIS PAST SATURDAY, THE 4TH OF JULY., 2009. THE BACK HATCH WAS OPEN AND MY 7 YEAR OLD FOUND BUTTONS THAT POWERED THE LAST ROW OF SEATS. THESE BUTTONS LIFTED THE SEATS UP AND DOWN. TO MY HORROR I ALL OF SUDDEN HEARD MY 3 YEAR OLD SCREAMING. HE WAS STANDING IN THE CAR DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF THE LAST ROW OF SEATS WITH HIS FOOT LODGED IN BETWEEN THE SEAT AND THE FLOOR. THE POWER LIFT WAS STILL RUNNING AND SMASHING HIS FOOT. THERE WAS NO SENSOR THAT STOPPED THE POWER SEAT. I FEEL THIS COULD BE VERY DANGEROUS. WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF A CHILD'S HEAD GOT LODGED IN THIS MECHANISM. LUCKILY MY CHILD HAD CROCK SHOES ON AND WAS ABLE TO PULL HIS FOOT OUT OF HIS SHOE BUT THERE WAS QUITE AN INDENTATION MARK FROM WHERE THE SEAT WAS PUSHING ON HIS FOOT. WE RECENTLY PURCHASED A 2009 VOLKSWAGEN ROUTAN SE WITH BOTH DRIVER AND PASSENGER AUTOMATIC SLIDING DOORS. OUR 4 YEAR OLD SON WENT TO OPEN THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE DOOR BY PULLING ON THE HANDLE, AND AT THE SAME TIME MY HUSBAND WENT TO OPEN THE DOOR BY PUSHING THE "DOOR OPEN" BUTTON ON THE KEY. AS A RESULT OF THIS, THE DOOR ENDED UP CLOSING COMPLETELY, AND LATCHING, ON MY SON'S HAND. IT ALSO WOULD ONLY OPEN ONCE MY HUSBAND FORCEFULLY PULLED THE DOOR OPEN. OF COURSE HIS HAND IMMEDIATELY SWELLED UP AND WE VISITED THE EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT, HAD XRAY'S TAKEN, AND THERE WAS NO INCIDENCE OF A FRACTURE. WHEN WE REPORTED THIS DIRECTLY TO VOLKSWAGEN OF AMERICA, WE WERE INSTRUCTED TO BRING IT TO THE LOCAL DEALER AND HAVE DIAGNOSTICS DONE. THE RESULT? "THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH YOUR VEHICLE." THEY WENT ON TO EXPLAIN TO US THAT THE ANTI PINCH PROTECTION IS WORKING, BUT IS NOT DESIGNED TO SENSE SUCH A SMALL OBJECT. VOLKSWAGEN OF AMERICA ASSURED US THAT THIS MATTER WAS NOT TAKEN LIGHTLY, AND THAT THE ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT CAME TO THE CONCLUSION THAT THE DOOR WAS FUNCTIONING PROPERLY. WHEN WE ADDRESSED ANY FURTHER ACTIONS, IE REPLACEMENT OF DOOR, VEHICLE, OR TERMINATION OF OUR LEASE AGREEMENT, WE WERE TOLD, "WE ARE SORRY FOR THIS UNFORTUNATE ACCIDENT, BUT ACCIDENTS HAPPEN AND THERE IS NOTHING MORE WE CAN DO FOR YOU." WHEN WE EXPRESSED OUR CONCERN THAT OUR 4 YEAR OLD SON IS PETRIFIED OF OUR CAR, AND THAT HE REFUSES TO GET INTO THE VEHICLE BY HIMSELF, LET ALONE OPEN THE DOOR ALONE, WE WERE TOLD, "I AM SURE HE WILL GET OVER IT AFTER A WHILE." THESE ANSWERS ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE TO US. FOR A CAR THAT IS MARKETED AS A FAMILY MOBILE AND A SAFE VEHICLE, WE FEEL THAT IT DOES NOT LIVE UP TO IT'S CLAIMS. IT MAKES NO SENSE WHY AN AUTOMATIC DOOR WOULD BE DESIGNED TO SENSE SOMETHING BIGGER THAN A CHILD'S HAND, LIMB, OR OTHER BODY PART. WHAT GOES HAND IN HAND WITH A MINIVAN? A CHILD!
