My head gasket is leaking and I saw that VW had other complaints about the engine code DNKA for year 2022 and after July 2023 the company had made a decision to redesign the head gasket and coatings. I don’t understand how this isn’t a recall just yet especially knowing that Taos 2022, has many problems than an average car. The dealership says I’m responsible for paying it but yet I have proof that the design of the gasket of my vehicle was a manufactured defect. Please please do something about this or help us that have purchased. I’ve invested 20k into this car and for me taking it in 3,4 times a year isn’t realistic and reliable.

Went into Volkswagen dealership as my low coolant light came on. I called early June, they couldn't get me in until June 17th, when I was then told my warranty was barely a week expired. My head gasket needs replaced and Volkswagen is refusing to cover this, knowing full well this has been an issue on thousands of these vehicles.

Light came on for leak detection pump failure upon starting car. Drove to dealer directly immediately upon looking up indicator light. Felt as if care was misfiring Deal found fuel pump in need of recall repair. Dealer also found coolant leak and recommended engine teardown. Diagnostic found block deck warp over permissible range 0.05m. Requiring full engine replacement. No previous indication of issue, leaking, or over heating. No cause of warp known or can be given. 60K miles on car.

Car was purchased in August 2021. In August 2022 it was taken in for service at Onion Creek VW in Austin for multiple occurrences of alerts for low coolant level. The dealership topped off the coolant reservoir and said there are no visible leaks and refused to further diagnose. Then in June 2025 with 22,000+ miles the same occurred again. Took it to Vanguard VW in Austin and they diagnosed a bad head gasket.

When taking the vehicle in for service at Safford Brown Volkswagen to replace a faulty EVAP module, we were notified that the cylinder head gasket was leaking and would need to be replaced. This leaking coolant and crack in the head gasket can lead to early engine failure. This seems to be a consistent issue due to a faulty part specific to this vehicle year and make. Volkswagen has released a TSB on the issue but is not offering any recalls or free service to fix the faulty part they produced. The TSB was released on 17th of August 2023.

SERVICE BRAKES

My car is only 14,200 miles and the rear brakes are gone, I need to find help because is a safety concern and VW doesn’t want it to replace because the extended warranty is already expired, but nobody, either the VW or the dealership where I bought my car informed me regarding this issue and the extended warranty. The issue is not only for me there are a lot of customers having the same issue and VW and the dealership want me to pay for their original cheap brakes, the dealer wants to sell me new brakes for $400.00. Customer Service did not want to help. This morning I almost crash when I tried to stop at the light.

I took the vehicle in for its 80,000 service, which included a multiple point inspection on Oct. 24th, 2025. The dealer that serviced my vehicle for that specific service was the north park volkswagen in San Antonio. On October 30, 2025 at approximately 2:15 PM, I was driving down the highway when I felt something in the brakes crack. I had to use my whole body weight and a lot of force to stop the vehicle, which could have ended in a fatal accident. I took the vehicle to the nearest Firestone with the parking brake close to my hand, where a certified technician inspected it and found that a brake line had been improperly reattached using glue and duct tape, posing a major safety hazard. There was visible glue residue and tape wrapped around the brake line. Because Firestone could not obtain the necessary part and did not feel confident repairing a European vehicle, I then took my car to Ancira Volkswagen in San Antonio. Their technicians confirmed that the brake line repair using glue and tape would not have lasted long had it been at the 70,000 service over 6 months go further proving that this unsafe and makeshift repair was done recently. When I reported this issue to North Park Volkswagen, the service manager, Albert Zapata, was rude, dismissive, and denied all responsibility, implying that I could have caused the damage myself. This situation reflects negligence and a failure to perform a proper inspection or maintain safety standards. The workmanship and lack of accountability from North Park Volkswagen directly put my life at risk.

My 2022 Volkswagen Taos is less than 4 years old, has 23,500 miles and I have had to replace the rear brake pads twice. After 14 months in service, the rear brake pads were prematurely worn and replaced under warranty extension at 8,900 miles. This is a known issue--see this bulletin from VW: [XXX] . But the root cause issue has not been solved. At 23,500 miles, the rear brake pads were at 2mm and I had to replace them again, only two years later. So every one (1) to two (2) years, the rear brake pads on a VW Taos have to be replaced. Make it make sense. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Oct 03, 2025
Purchased the vehicle on 8/1/2022. Brought the Taos in for routine oil change and at that point the rear brakes were noted to be under 4mm. At that point, there were 7,223 miles on the vehicle. Volkswagen was aware of the problem already and had issued a recall regarding the rear brakes, so it was covered under the recall. I thought the problem was resolved. On 6/4/2025, my car had to be brought in for a separate check engine light issue. At that time, the rear brakes were noted to be at 1mm. The vehicle had 23,061 miles on it, but I was past the two years for the recall, so I had to pay out of pocket for new rear brakes & rotors. Had my car’s check engine light not gone on, I would not have known my brakes were almost gone. Again.
Jul 08, 2025
I own a 2022 Volkswagen Taos with about 45,000 miles. I have had to replace the rear brake pads and rotors THREE TIMES already within this mileage, which is extremely unusual. During the third replacement, a local independent shop discovered that the rear brake caliper was leaking brake fluid, so the caliper also had to be replaced along with the pads and rotors once again. The service shop disposed of the old parts but I have service records. A leaking rear brake caliper can reduce braking performance and increase the risk of brake failure, putting my safety and the safety of others at risk. This issue was confirmed by the independent shop during the third replacement. The first two replacements were done at an authorized dealer, but the caliper defect was not detected then. There were no warning lights or messages. The only sign was the unusually frequent need to replace the rear brakes three times in a short period, which may have been caused by an early defect in the caliper. I strongly request that NHTSA investigate this issue and consider whether a recall is needed due to the repeated rear brake failure in this vehicle.

I purchased the vehicle in 2022 & in 2023 the low coolant light turned on. Now at 54k miles the low coolant light has turned on again and the head gasket is definitely leaking. I’m out of warranty because I’ve hit 54k miles. This is absolutely unacceptable for a brand new car.

While driving I heard a small crack I looked up and notice where you can turn the lights on in the inside the whole unit fell out on me while driving. Almost crashed. And once we tried to put it back up it all the plastic strutted to crack.

Sunroof shattered at a red light suddenly. Outside temperature was around 50 F. Two friends had small superficial cuts. We were stopped at a red light at the city (ATL). Vehicle is been inspected and the fault is been adjudicated to an impact. Sunroof has cero impact marks nor does it have impact holes or impact point. Two main horizontal fractures can be seen at the front and back portion of the glass. Affected glass is the first motorized glass. No other impact of scratches on the car.

Filled my tank with gas. Got into the vehicle and started if and could almost immediately smell gas in cabin. Thought maybe I got gas the wasn’t good. Refilled twice with premium gas and smell did not go away and you could then smell it outside of the vehicle as well. Very strong, drive it to my VW Service Dealef to have it looked at then.

2022 VW Taos 2 instances of fuel level sensor failure. Fuel gauge reported 1/2 tank fuel level remaining when fuel tank was empty. In both instances the vehicle stalled without warning. 1) [XXX] - [XXX], fuel level sender float rod detached. 2) [XXX] - [XXX], Fuel level sensor malfunction. Both instances occurred while on state highways and car was able to be moved to the roadside safely. Had this occurred while on an interstate during heavy traffic, it is unlikely that the vehicle and driver could have been moved to safety. Dealer repaired both under warranty however, although requested, neither part was retained for customer inspection. There were no warning lamps, messages or symptoms before the vehicle stalled. i got a 2022 volkswagen Taos the end of may 2025, it has been 6 months. a month after getting it i reported to the dealership that i felt like i had a wobbly tire, they looked at it and said it was fine. i have felt like it has gotten worse within the past few months so i brought it into a shop, they called me back yesterday saying i have a problem with the transmission. i’m not sure how i don’t have any warranty, but i now have to come out of pocket for the transmission. no lights came on, there was no warning. i tried driving it home after and its shifting so badly it’s now not safe to drive and im scared ill be in an accident. so im forced to fix the issue now. i’m having it sent to the dealership today but wanted to make a report to have this vehicle recalled.

2022 Volkswagen Taos SE 1.5T (DNKA engine, <60,000 miles, <5 years old) developed internal coolant leak from cylinder head gasket. On 11/03/2025 Smith Volkswagen, Wilmington, DE (RO 692953/1) performed coolant system pressure test and confirmed leak coming from cylinder head gasket area at rear of engine below turbo (exactly as shown in Figures 1 & 2 of VW TSB 15-23-01). Dealer noted possible related engine damage that may require complete engine replacement in addition to head gasket. Vehicle available for inspection upon request. Safety risk: loss of coolant can cause sudden engine overheating, power loss, or seizure while driving, creating risk of crash, stranding, or fire. Symptoms began November 2025 with “Check Coolant” warning; reservoir was below MIN. Added coolant once; warning has not returned, but pressure test proved ongoing internal leak. No visible external drips. This exact failure is a known manufacturing defect per Volkswagen Technical Service Bulletin 15-23-01 (Transaction 2071245/1, issued 08/17/2023), which states: “Original engine production head gasket design can lead to coolant leaks” and was redesigned as of engine DNKA 234 458 (July 27, 2023). Despite VW’s own bulletin documenting the defective gasket in all 2022–2023 Taos/Jetta 1.5T engines built before the fix, VW classifies the TSB as “information only” with no warranty coverage. VW Goodwill offered only 50% assistance on the $4,927 head gasket replacement and nothing toward a potential full engine replacement, leaving owner responsible for thousands of dollars in repairs on a documented factory defect in a low-mileage, young vehicle.

I recently started experiencing a delay in acceleration after my car has stopped at a light or stop sign. The car doesn’t immediately accelerate when the gas pedal is used but then it catches and takes off lunging forward very quickly. The has caused many close calls especially with left hand turns. I have almost been hit multiple times due to the car not going and oncoming traffic continuing. I have also almost rear ended other drivers due to the surge of acceleration when the car finally takes off. I took my car to the dealer for an oil change and brought this to their attention. They told me it was a known issue, particularly with the Volkswagen Taos. They said they had several vehicles come in for inspection citing the same problem. So I assumed they would have a solution since it is a known issue, but I was told there was nothing they could do to fix it. They told me this was why my check engine light was on when I brought my vehicle in, they tested for errors, found none, turned the light off, and sent me on my way with my vehicle still experiencing this “turbo lag”. I goggled the issue and there is a lot of information online and reports of the same experience but no solutions. Does someone need to die before car manufacturers are held accountable to fixing this? It is documented with the dealership that I had concerns about this and I will be taking legal action should an accident occur because of this issue because this isn’t right. They literally told me, “I would hate to charge you money for us to do work on your car knowing we cannot fix it.” And of course the issue didn’t show up until my car hit a certain number of miles. I bought the car brand new in 2021 and have maintained the required servicing.

From the start, car regularly needed coolant topped off. Dealer said there was no issue. At 68,000 miles other mechanic noticed a major oil leak. Took it to dealer and needed cylinder head gasket replaced. Apparently there are many many people with a similar issue. I however did not discover it until I was out of warranty. They should not be getting away with this. This is a near $4,000 repair I have to come with out of pocket (plus interest) which is due to manufacturing defect and not simple wear and tear.

The car completely shut off while driving it. This was not the first time this happened. The EPC and check engine lights are constantly on. I have brought the car several times to try to fix the problem, nothing works. I have also had to add radiator fluid twice. The car was sold to me during a stop sale that I had no idea about. I tried going through VW for a buy back that they were initially going to grant and then changed their mind once a fix for the recall was announced. Horrific company to deal with.

2022 vw Taos had leaking coolant, notified by coolant warning light. Coolant replaced 3 times, but always low within a few weeks. Took to dealer and Taos diagnosed with a blown head gasket. Told car was unsafe to drive and dealer confirmed the problem. Have been waiting on the parts to fix for over 3 weeks. Also told the entire engine must be rebuilt to fix. Very concerning.

I came to a stop at a red light and the engine turned over to preserve energy, once the light turned green and I attempted to gas, the car would not move. I turned off and on repeatedly to try to get the car to go but with no success, I was causing traffic for at least 5 minutes while I had no clue what else to do but wait until it wanted to turn over. Also on two separate occasions my screen would glitch and turn off, stopping my music, and terminating GPS. Both times I was able to record for my records.

at 20,000 miles the low coolant light came on and I took it to the dealer and they diagnosis it as a leaking through the head gasket my vehicle has been in the shop for approximately one month and to replace the head gasket. Also the information system would not come on or needed to have a hard reset in order to work. Also reported that to the dealer they could not duplicate the problem. This head gasket problem is concerning since it took 5 months to get the part and I was driving around with the issue. Don't know the extend of damage to the car's engine.

I was driving on the highway traveling approximately 65- 70 miles an hour when my TAOS began losing speed. I attempted to accelerate when I realized my speed had dropped to 56mph. I was unable to accelerate and a message popped on my dashboard showing about maximum RPM cannot exceed 4000. My engine shut off and moments later before the check engine light, hazard signal, and EPC lights flashed and turned on. I was forced to pull over off to the left shoulder. I was not able to restart my vehicle. Each time I tried it would power on, attempt to ignite and die down back to assessors mode with the engine, hazard, and EPc lights remaining on. Had my vehicle towed to VW dealership and am awaiting diagnostic and repair. Truly scary experience when my vehicle shut off on a highway with speed limits at 70mph!

Engine electrical issue with knock sensor, dealer replaced only to find out they now need to install an engine electrical harness complete. Engine warning light comes on and states max engine rpm's limited to 4000, while doing so engine power is cut resulting in major loss of acceleration, while engine light is on safety system does not work. Infotainment system sometimes does not load for several minuets as well as the rear view camera not functioning while loading.

Stepping in the gas, the car takes about 4-5 seconds before it speeds up after each stop. When pulling out of a drive, the car sputtered and the check engine light was flashing and the Start/stop error came on. The delayed driving happens every time I drive the car. Only have about 44k miles on it. I have had multiple people almost rear end me. I have had the car for about 3 weeks now.

The radio system constantly blanks out and will not come back on for hours even after trying to turn it off and back on. There are major issues that point to the recalls that are known for the 2022 VE Taos however, there are no recalls for my specific vehicle. The vehicle check engine light is constantly on and there is constantly an issue with the fuel system. The Taos has issues with acceleration and shifting into other gears. The Taos now has a ticking sound and is at the mile range of (50,000- 60,000) which others who have complained about engine failures. This has been a current and ongoing problem with this vehicle and has cause a headache.

Fuel System: The car hesitates when you push the gas, and then will suddenly go with a jolt. That is unsafe as you are turning on to road and when you push the gas-you do not move for a few seconds which could cause an accident. There are no warning lights regarding this, however, lots of the same exact complaints for this model on the internet. Engine: The coolant goes low, and the dealership says it needs a new head gasket replaced, however, was told to continue to drive the car until the part comes in which is on back order for months. Electrical: Lights come on telling me that my tire is low, when tire is not low. My oil light came on saying to reduce the oil level. Dealership just turned the light off and called it good. I worry that something is wrong, but the car does not give accurate safe information. The carplay system has to be restarted all the time due to connecting issues, and map not working. Additionally, the car had to have rear breaks replaced at only 27,000k miles.

When coming to a stop the car stalled, max rpm 3000 warning fired with check engine light. Once restarted it bucked as if it was not getting fuel then stalled again. Dealer had just installed update 48 hours prior to this happening

I purchased my VW TAOS on Nov 26, 2021, and since then I have experienced faulty issues 4 times. 2022 Jul twice, Sep once, and Nov once. When merged to the main road the car refuses to accelerate and gives strange sounds in transmission/engine area. The first 2 times I had the issue with loss of power and significant lag in acceleration I could see the "start/stop error" message in the dashboard, and I had to pull over to the side of the road. I drove in the parking lot nearby for few minutes and continued driving when the engine seemed OK, but the automatic engine start/stop system failed to work on traffic lights when car fully stopped. I notified my local dealership about this issue and got an appointment for inspection in August. When examined they recommended changing my fuel to premium and explained that the fault was caused by the quality of gas I put. I followed their instruction and only been pumping Unleaded-91 Premium grade fuel for the last 2 months, but I had a more serious issue in mid-September. In the middle of traffic at 40mph speed a sudden loss of power occurred followed by a check engine light flashing. Again, I had to make an emergency stop from the second lane to pull over into the shoulder. When I notified this to my dealership, they recommended to get the car checked during my first oil change that was supposed to happen a month later because when I consulted with the operator, they said I should observe if the problem is going to reoccur. On 7th of Nov 2022, I got my oil changed for the first time at the dealership and drove my car for a while and it seemed fine. However, by the evening when I tried to drive it back home the same issue with worse noise in the engine area took place and car failed to accelerate in the middle of the traffic where I had to act quickly to pull over to the side of the road causing risky situation to other drivers on the road and myself. I am now convinced that this issue is never going to be fixed.

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL

Vehicle has been having accelerator issues. Car has not been registering acceleration. This has happened on 6 separate occasions. The first occurrence happened when I was at an intersection and I took my foot off the brake and put my foot on the gas pedal. No acceleration besides the torque received when not applying gas (1-3mph). This lasted for about 7-10 seconds and then I jolted forward due to gas pedal being pressed down and car registering the gas. The other occurrences have happened when I start my car in the morning. I will start my car and apply gas. The car does not register the gas, it moves slowly from the torque converter. This lasts about 7-8 seconds of this slow moving. My foot is applied to the gas pedal, but car doesn't register it. After about 8 seconds, my car will register my foot being on the gas pedal. It goes from about 1 mph to 12-17 mph in 2 seconds. When it does, the gas pedal is not pressed 1/2 day down, 3/4 way down or all the way down to the floor. The gas pedal is pressed very gently. I learned from the first time in the intersection, not to press the gas pedal down all the way due to the aggressive acceleration of the car at an unknown time. The date of the intersection occurrence I did not record due to me thinking it was a one off situation. After the second time I started documenting each time this happened. Temperatures have varied from when this happens, it does not happen when it is a certain temperature out. I have driven my car consistently and does not happen when leaving my car sit for long periods of time. I have had regular maintenance on my car. Date of events this has happened 01/08 01/16 01/17 01/29 01/31 This is very concerning to me as I am afraid my car will hit an object or a human without my control. This car was bought new from the dealership and is less than 3 years old. I have reported this problem to the local dealership and have an appt in February.
Feb 01, 2024
Accelerating from hard stop causes vehicle to jerk. There is a lag that is dangerous when sitting in traffic. I was sitting in bumper to bumper traffic when I accelerated. The car has no response and then will have a sudden acceleration seconds after pushing the pedal. This only happens when accelerating from a hard stop. I have called 2 local dealers and they confirmed they have seen this issue. 1 dealer stated they have seen this issue in my exact model, with no fix. 2nd dealer states they have seen it in a different model but have no fix for my current model. This problems puts the safety of myself and others at risk.
Jul 10, 2023
The car auto-accelerates and the acceleration is very jerky. When you put the car in gear it accelerates without control. Too dangerous to drive in the city.
Mar 06, 2023
In some cases when attempting to propel the vehicle from a stop or slow roll to a quicker state of acceleration, response to pressing the pedal down to accelerate is delayed enough to potentially cause a dangerous situation. Once the vehicle starts to accelerate, it does so in a snapping way that almost causes another dangerous situation. This is being discussed by several owners on social media groups. Some people are buying 3rd party ODB2 gadgets that help resolve this, which mean it is possibly solvable with a ECU update that manages throttle response, turbo, and perhaps shift points.
Sep 13, 2022
The contact owns a 2022 Volkswagen Taos. The contact stated while attempting to drive from a complete stop, the accelerator pedal was depressed twice but failed to respond. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact depressed the accelerator pedal harder and the vehicle accelerated unintendedly and crashed into the rear of the vehicle in front of it. The contact stated it was a fender-bender. There were no injuries sustained. The air bags did not deploy. The contact was able to continue driving. However, the failure reoccurred upon reversing. Additionally, the contact stated that the fuel gauge had failed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that no issues were found. However, the failure persisted. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 2,000.

Feb 16, 2025
Periodically, when trying to accelerate, the car stutters as if it's not getting any fuel and the check engine light will flash on briefly, then go off, and keep flashing on when pressing the gas pedal. It will continue to do this until you stop, turn the car off, open then close the door, let it set for about a minute, start the car again, and you HAVE to turn off the Automatic start/stop. Once you do that, and continue to keep turning off the auto start/stop every time you start the car for a few days to a week, it will resolve the issue for about a few months (or shorter if you drive frequently to where the auto start/stop is activated more frequently). -Engine? -Fuel Injection? -Automatic Start/Stop The car stuttered and acted like it was going to shut off while driving down the road. This could have caused an accident or even caused irreplaceable engine damage. It has not been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or service center because it is random and once you shut the car off and the auto start/stop, it resolves the issue for a short time. I have called the dealer and I have called VW company to report the issue, but they both just refer me back to the other. No, the vehicle has not been inspected. No symptoms or warning lamps. The check engine light only comes on after the car stutters and struggles to accelerate for a few seconds, then it will flash on and off depending of if I am pressing the gas pedal.

When starting out from a dead stop there is a hesitation for about 1 1/2 second. If you press harder on the accelerator the vehicle surges forward. This also happens if you are on a highway and try to accelerate to change lanes or pass some other vehicle. I have been to my dealer three time for th same problem. The computer results claim BAD FUEL. I have tried all grades of fuel even though the vehicle is designed for 87 Octane. The service mgr suggested 94 octane, I also have gone to a different dealer as per VW customer service’s advice. Their service rep informed me that VW’s all models have this same problem. There was also an update installed which there was somewhat of a minor change but the problem is still there.

No acceleration. 2022 Taos SEL 4Motion. I was attempting to turn to left and I applied the accelerator pedal and got absolutely no response. I let off of the pedal and again attempted to accelerate also having no response the second time. By this time there was traffic and I had to wait. On the third attempt the vehicle responded. The incident was very unsettling. In addition to the above problem, which has only happened once, the acceleration is often delayed and sluggish. Accelerator inputs are inconsistent. The delayed and sluggish responses are often followed by very aggressive acceleration and hard shifts. It often seems there is either little acceleration or over enthusiatic acceleration. The vehicle is difficult to drive smoothly.

Vehicle from time to time without warning stalls. Engine starts shaking and we usually coast to a stop. At this time the check engine light and and other warning lights on. We shut the car off and wait few minutes and restart the car and it works fine as if nothing happened. This is very scary as this has happened 4-5 times in the last year and dealer can’t find anything wrong. This problem started after update to programming that I believe was done after stop sale order.

Within weeks of leading car, EPC light flashing, check engine light, limp mode from 55 to about 30. I bought it to dealer said fixed. A few months later again, brought it to another dealer fixed it, said don’t use eco mode and high tier gas. It was fine for a few months did it again two days ago. I shut the engine off and turned it on was fine. VW HQ said no new car. They will keep trying to fix it. Dealer won’t change it. Dealer wants me to bring it in again….They will try something else. I explained to dealer and VWHQ this is very dangerous. Previous incident 11/2023, previous incident shortly after leasing the car. Each time told it was fixed and not.

The vehicle suddenly loses power without warning/notice for a few seconds when attempting to accelerate from a stop; the car will move at speeds between 1-3 mph. The condition occurs multiple times during a drive cycle, especially when cold but also when at operating temperature, and has happened in wet and dry conditions causing numerous near-miss accidents due to the lack of poor response. This is a rental vehicle from National.

I bought the car new on May 31, 2022. It had 266 miles on the odometer. With approx 200 miles driven it shut down while driving at 35 MPH. The dealer, East Coast VW, had it towed. After 10 days they said it was a faulty fuel sending unit and I was out of fuel, even though the fuel gauge read 3/8 of a tank. So again it happened. Saturday 8-27-2022. With 450 miles I've driven. Fuel gauge read 5/8 of a tank. This time it happened at 60 MPH in traffic.

DASH LIGHTS GO SO DIM AT TIMES YOU CANNOT SEE DASH. YOU HAVE TO TAKE YOUR EYES OFF THE ROAD TO SEE YOUR SPEED. THERE HAVE BEEN NUMEROUS POST OF THIS HAPPENING ON VW TAOS FORUM WEBSITE. VW NEEDS TO FIX THIS AS IT A HAZARD TO DRIVER SAFETY. VW DOESNT KNOW HOW TO FIX IT.

The screen will freeze when driving and the navigation will freeze about 3x on a 20min drive. Also when I use reverse the camera will freeze or black out and I am not able to see where I am going reverse. I have gone to VW dealer in Huntington Beach and they said they cannot do anything about it until they issue a recall or if there is an update for the electrical system which can take a year or more. It is a new car. It should not have these issues.

I have a 2022 Taos Volkswagen Sport WG. It was purchased in April 2022. In November 2022 was the first time the dash board lights started to go dark and dimming so low that I could not see my driving speed and after turning vehicle on and off it still did not get better, Therefore, I took into Dealership where I purchased vehicle. The service advisor, the service manager and the service Electrician could not figure out what was the cause. I suggested to the service Electrician to see if the Taos they have on lot were also doing the same thing. So he pulled up a new Taos and the new Taos on the car lot was also doing the same thing. I left the vehicle with the dealership to see if they could fix what was going on with the dash light but to no avail, it eventually got brighter and I have heard nothing further from them. On May 11, 2023. Again the dash lights and this time the Radio lights too went very dim, so dim I could not see my speed nor channel selection for radio. I again drove to the dealership and there it is at this point, again the Service Manager came out trying to adjust the light settings, he could not. so he asked if I can leave the vehicle behind so that they can take a better look at it. I was not offered a rental, I did ask for one but he said they have none available! I am very disappointed in VOLKSWAGEN, the only reason I switched vehicle makes was because my daughter had a Volkswagen, but currently seriously about purchasing another make.

- The head gasket failed twice in less than one year on my 2022 Volkswagen Taos. The vehicle also experienced a fuel pump failure, rear brake pad wear down to metal-on-metal, and the underbody panel detached while driving due to being improperly secured after a dealership repair. Yes, the components may be available for inspection upon request through the dealership. - The second head gasket failure resulted in coolant loss, which can lead to engine overheating and potential failure while driving. The underbody panel detached while I was on the freeway, posing a serious safety hazard to me and other drivers. The brake system issues, including vibration and scraping noises, raise concern about brake reliability and stopping ability. - Yes, all issues were confirmed and addressed by authorized Volkswagen dealerships: DeMontrond Volkswagen (Conroe, TX) and Momentum Volkswagen (Houston, TX). - The vehicle has been inspected and repaired multiple times by Volkswagen-certified service technicians. No inspections by police or insurance have taken place. - No warning lamps appeared before the head gasket failures. The brake issues were first noticed as vibrations in the brake pedal after a service visit, followed by scraping noises, which were later diagnosed as metal-to-metal contact. The underbody panel incident occurred suddenly after leaving the dealership.

Vehicle had excessive oil burn. 1/2 quart down with 1000 miles. Vehicle was over filled when brought back to dealer.. no warning light. Oil was change a 2nd time with no issues. Brought vehicle back to dealer on 2/16/23 for oil change. After 2 weeks oil light came on for excessive oil. brought back to dealer again for them to drain some oil out. Now having issues with filling car with gas. Pump keeps clicking off, which could be EVAC system. This car has only 9000 miles and shouldn't have this issues.

When pressing on gas peddle, vehicle aggressively jolts forward. This caused me to almost rear end the vehicle in front of me while on the highway as well as be rear ended. While on and in drive Taos appears to have died. Vehicle will not drive and break locks. The break peddle has also locked up twice while driving. Check engine light did appear but shortly turned off. Auto start/stop does not work on app and auto start doesn’t work on key fob either. Multiple times my Taos has “detected” a vehicle in front of me and flashed a warning when there was no vehicle at all. These incidents have occurred over multiple days. At this time I have only owed my Taos for three weeks.

In April 2024, the VW Taos leaked coolant due to a faulty gasket. Upon being fixed, an EPC light came on and leaked oil. This caused us to have it towed to the dealership for repairs to the oil cap lining. After the car was returned, the light was cleared and no longer leaked oil. In May 2024, the EPC light reappeared and cause a significant reduction when accelerating at 50 mph. When the light came on the vehicle had errors stating that the max rpms are exceeded and the car reduced power. We took the car to VW State College who was unable to find an issue with the car and cleared the light. We were able to drive the vehicle at slow speeds back to Moon Township for diagnostic and testing. The vehicle has remained with VW since late may and as of 6/11/2024, Volkswagen is unable to determine the cause of the EPC light. The second time the EPC light came on, the car stalled out at an intersection causing significant injury risk to the occupants. VW Moon Township has performed the investigations and VW State College was unable to diagnose the EPC light cause. The EPC light did not appear prior to the initial coolant leak.

While driving my vehicle the engine became unable to shift gears or speed up. The check engine light came up and shortly after the EPC light appeared. After coming to a stop, the vehicle died and was unable to turn on. After returning it to the dealer - they informed me it was due to a recall on the VW Taos software which appears to be consistent with the 2022 Taos recalls on AWD vehicles. My car is FWD drive but empierced the same problem and I was not notified of any potential issue. This happened while I was driving to Puerto Penasco, Mexico just south of the Arizona border for a weekend trip. Luckily, my vehicle broke down just outside of the city where we could call a tow truck and safely sit on side of road. The drive is only 4 hours from Phoenix but 90% of the way is through the desert which I feel extremely fortunate this did not happen in a remote area. Volkswagen only provides roadside assistance in the United States, so I had to pay out of pocket to get my car towed across the border and picked up to go to the dealer. My vehicle only has 11,470 miles and is 18 months old. The vehicle was serviced at 10,000 miles and I was not notified of any potential defects.

While stop at red light on 2 occasions, the car goes into the auto stop start feature. The light turns green and I depress the accelerator to start to drive and nothing happens. I frantically try to determine what's going on my, shifter is in Drive and nothing. I press ignition to start and it states car in drive. Shift car to park and car starts. This all occurred after VW did Campaign #24IR. This is dangerous since if people don't realize your not moving they can rear end you or go backwards on a hill.

I went for my 30K mile warranty check. As I was as driving to the appointment the red engine light came on. It was the engine coolant. There is an issue with the head gasket on this model. I asked for it to be checked. The Service department said there is no leak and they replenished the coolant. I have read about this with many other VW Taos owners. I was also told I need new brakes. The brakes were replaced 16,000 miles ago. The brakes are substandard. This is the second time I've needed brakes on my car. I only have 29K miles on the car.

Our Taos is Bartley 18 months old and has less than 20k miles. Our coolant level was super low. We got the car towed (because we were on a road trip) and the dealership said it was low but that is normal and they refilled the coolant. Now we went for our 20k inspection and the said that the coolant Gasket has blown. The dealership mentioned they had a bunch come in with the same issue. When looked online many said they have the same issues and have been waiting MONTHS for the parts as everything is on back order. We now are uncertain if the fix will work and are worried that in a year or so the whole thing will blow again and we will be out of a car for weeks again( they said they might have it fixed in the next 4-6 weeks- so we are out of a car until then). Additonally the back brake pads are way lower than they are supposed to be. Dealership said again that they see that regularly at VW Taos. All this can be safety issues!!!!

At 6578 miles, the Taos was confirmed to have a warped right rear caliper requiring replacement of the part. Confirmed failure of mfg part. Vehicle was at the dealership for over two weeks for repair. The car had been making a grinding noise at lower speeds. At ~13,000 miles, the coolant reservoir was nearly empty (only 5 weeks after a routine oil change service). The car was giving low coolant warnings. Took car into the dealership and confirmed the engine head gasket had failed and evidence of coolant was found on the outside of the engine. Car is currently still at the dealer awaiting the replacement part and repair. Extremely disappointing that a vehicle with 13K miles has had these types of major issues. The dealer in Fort Collins, CO couldn't get the car for another 4 weeks to diagnose and the technician told my husband that he would just top off the coolant and keep an eye on it. They denied any issues with the engine gasket. When I called the Greeley dealership they knew immediately what the issue was and indicated they had repaired several Taos vehicles for this issue with the engine gasket.

I am reporting a repeated safety-related defect involving exhaust intrusion into the cabin of my 2022 Volkswagen Taos. The vehicle experienced loss of power, coolant loss, and engine warning indicators, and was serviced twice by Volkswagen Southtowne in Sandy, Utah. First Incident – Vehicle Returned as “Safe to Drive” During the first repair visit, the dealer diagnosed issues involving the manifold/exhaust area, head gasket, coolant system, and catalytic converter. After keeping the vehicle for an extended period, the dealership informed me the vehicle was “safe to drive,” although the repair was not fully completed. I relied on this representation. After the vehicle was returned to me, I began experiencing significant physical symptoms only while driving the vehicle, including nausea, dizziness, and vomiting. These symptoms occurred repeatedly during operation and would subside after leaving the vehicle. At the time, I did not understand that these symptoms were caused by exhaust entering the cabin. Second Incident – Defect Confirmed and Additional Repairs Performed Weeks later, the symptoms persisted and I returned the vehicle to the same dealership. At this second visit, the dealer reported coolant leakage and additional gasket failures. They removed the cylinder head, replaced gaskets, and performed additional exhaust-related repairs. I was provided a loaner vehicle during this extended repair. After this second repair, the symptoms while driving stopped. Safety Concern Based on the timing of symptoms, the repair records, and the resolution following the second repair, I believe that exhaust gases were entering the cabin of the vehicle during normal operation for an extended period. This created a significant safety hazard. I was repeatedly assured the vehicle was “safe to drive” when it was not. I unknowingly operated the vehicle while being exposed to exhaust fumes for several months. The condition caused physical illness, impaired my ability.

The radiator was broken due to a rock hitting it while simply driving down the road out of town and wasn’t covered by warranty. My engine started overheating and has been overheating every now and then ever since now due to coolant leaking because of a head gasket leak. Oh and that’s not covered by warranty now either.

I've been having issues with my car since I bought it. I've taken the car in for the Power Train System, and the codes that come up are P0456 and P2421. This car has a mind of its own. I've driven it and it started lagging, and I went into limp mode just crossing a 2 way stop with ongoing traffic. I don't understand how VW doesn't address this problem when I know that if anyone were in my shoes, they wouldn't have dealt with this, going to the dealership 3,4 times a year when I should only be going in frequently for oil changes. The dealership says after my warranty is over, I have to pay out of pocket, but I don't see why, when it's been an ongoing issue and VW needs to have an extended warranty, because I know I am not the only one with issues. Reddit has thousands of complaints about VW, but it's our problem that they couldn't produce a reliable car. The dealership has been aware of this for 4 years since I bought my car in June 2021. I have had the engine light come on every 3 -5 months since June 2021, and it's always the same when they replace a whole part. I have all the paperwork and all the information on what they perform on my car. I am a regular. citizen, and I only make around 30K a year, if I were able to, I would get another car, but I've literally invested 20K in this car, and it's ridiculous how unreliable and how I constantly have to worry if the car will work. I don't have a scanner, so I uploaded how many times I've been to the dealership for one car.

The engine lag is extremely dangerous. It takes 2-3 full seconds for the ending to engage at full throttle. The risk of an accident is severe due to the total lack of responsiveness.
May 06, 2023
After a complete stop, acceleration is jerky. In that there is a 2-4 second delay than a burst of acceleration that causes the car to shoot forward. The car ran perfectly fine when we first bought it, since then a computer update was performed about 6 months ago. Since having the update the car is slow to respond while accelerating, we've been back to the dealership for this and were told that there is an issue but no codes are being thrown. The service manager stated that all of the 2022 Taos that have been sold have this problem, they are waiting for a computer fix from Volkswagen, but Volkswagen customer care says they are unaware of this issue. Not sure where to go except to possibly trade out of this potential deathtrap.

I am reporting serious electrical/CPU defects and dealership workmanship issues with my 2022 Volkswagen Taos. Since purchase, the vehicle has shown repeated electronic malfunctions: dash blackouts, HVAC/remote start errors, infotainment resets, and a cooling fan that ran 24+ hours after shutoff. Warning alerts are delayed or absent (no warning before head gasket failure at 42k miles; oil-level alert appeared 8 weeks after a dealer oil change; turbo underboost fault only appeared 9 months after a missing O-ring). Independent scans (AutoZone) have shown generic fault codes (ABS communication error), while Volkswagen dealerships repeatedly reported “no faults found.” Service staff told me they only read “VW codes,” ignoring generic ones that point to safety problems. Major events tied to these failures: Nov 2024: Head gasket failure at 42k miles, no warnings triggered. Aug 2025: Turbo charge pipe disconnected at highway speeds, car went into limp mode. Independent shop documented it “must have come loose or was not properly installed.” Sep 2025: EPC again; dealer found missing O-ring on intake pipe, likely from Nov 2024 repair. These failures have repeatedly stranded me in limp mode with my child in the car. The CPU’s failure to log and alert is a systemic defect. A similar delay with steering or braking could be deadly. I have raised concerns with Fox Valley Volkswagen since 2022 and sent certified letters in Sept 2025. They denied responsibility, calling each failure “unrelated.” Volkswagen of America also pushed me back to the dealer. This is not a one-off repair issue. It is a systemic CPU/electrical defect suppressing warnings until after failure, compounded by sloppy workmanship. My car is unsafe to drive. I request investigation into VW’s diagnostic practices, CPU/sensor monitoring delays, and dealer handling of safety-critical repairs. I have Service reports but I ran out of room and they couldn't be attached with the rest of the documents below.

Complete radio/gps randomly shuts off. GPS is always saying these VW are in different locations than they are.

Periodically the MIB infotainment screen blacks out; this in turn places a warning error in the driver center console screen. While this occurs, nothing else can be accessed or displayed in the center console screen. This creates a potentially dangerous situation as it can lead to confusion on a variety of things (example: Is cruise control still engaged?). It can also deprive the driver of key safety information (example: If one or more tires experiences a loss of pressure, the driver will not be warned). Furthermore, if the driver is reliant on Navigation and is driving under stressful and adverse weather conditions, this could create panic and result in a collision. VW has no fix for the issue currently and is releasing the vehicle back to me, even though I have stated my safety concerns.

Took my 2022 VW Taos in for its 20,000 mile service. Upon picking up the vehicle I was told everything looks great and I'm going to want to watch my rear brakes, the pads are worn 50%. I inquired as to wear on the front, near new at 11. I had also asked if they could check on the sluggish or jack rabbit take offs. They said that had been corrected thru a computer update at a previous visit. I said it was minimally improved? and had hoped VW had figured out the cause. I dwellled on the rear brake issue overnight, discussed the situation with my BIL, and called my service advisor in the am to say we believe the sluggish/rapid acceleration isn't brake related, but rather the brakes aren't completely releasing during stop to acceleration. He said he suspected that also and discussed it with his service manager who agreed. He said they submitted an inquiry and are asking VW to look in to this and as my rearbrakes are out if warranty by my "in service date", to see if VW will waive the pad replacement for low odometer. I've complained about and filed a NTHSA report for the acceleration problem a couple years ago. This is still a serious safety issue and abuse of the paying public.VW needs to step up before someone has to die. Brakes are nothing you wanting failing doing 70 mphs on I-90 thru mountain passes. Please follow-up and seek a resolution from VW. In the meantime I saw someone posted VW has a new brake pad as if May 2025. Guess I'll be paying for the replacement. P.S. I still don't have 20,000 mile on it. Ridiculous to be replacing rear pads!

1. car is unsafe starting from a stop and after slowing down to accelerate out of a turn. in both instances there is a significant lack of response w/ the accelerator where it won't actually respond until there's about 2-3k RPMs. this makes it extremely dangerous at intersections because you can't trust that it will accelerate in a responsive manner. many times, the car will respond as if you've dropped the clutch on a manual transmission - jerking around like a 15YO learning to drive a stick. The problem has not been confirmed by dealer - they were supposed to review at our 1st year maintenance but didn't then wanted to charge me to come back. It has not been inspected by others. There are no warning lights. 2. The coolant level on car consistently drops despite low mileage (1st time was around 9k) and less than a year old. It's a risk because it may be a head gasket or engine issue. The dealer did not find anything, but it continues to go through coolant. Advised to keep an eye on it. Not inspected by others. Yes low coolant warning light - first appeared multiple times around 9k.

Yesterday afternoon, while driving on I-55 in heavy Chicago Saturday traffic, my Taos 4Motion stalled out (mid-drive) in the middle lane of I-55, and I was nearly smashed into by several vehicles. My gas pedal didn't work, and yet my car appeared to be on. In an effort to find a way out of danger as fast as possible, I managed to get the car going again, only to have it stall out a second time (mid-drive) while trying to get onto a shoulder to safety. I was nearly smashed into again. Three hours after a VW roadside assistance tow truck got to me, I learned that a mere six days after I purchased my Taos 4Motion, VW issued (1) a recall on the specific problem I have described, and more importantly, (2) issued a stop-sale order on Taos models with 4Motion. I was never informed of this recall, and I have since learned VW is not sending notice of this recall until October 5, 2021. This is unacceptable. People could die, and no one is saying anything. I spoke by telephone with Nick Faciano of VW Crystal Lake Illinois this morning--my dealership--and he informed me that he had spoken with VW corporate representative that morning and that, and I quote directly, "I even contacted Volkswagen corporate this morning and again, they're still telling us not to contact the customers, that they're doing it." Obviously, this has not been done. And it's already too late for me to be notified. What about the next person? Will someone have to be smashed on I-55 or anywhere else, and die, before VW does something about it? A recall that customers are not notified about when a stop sale order has been put in place is irresponsible and calling for a lawsuit---peoples lives are on the line.

This statement is to formally document my ongoing and serious concerns regarding my 2022 Volkswagen Taos, which has been in and out of the Pasadena Volkswagen, California, service department for the past three weeks due to a persistent fuel smell and related fuel system issues. Despite the recent maintenance and attempted repairs, the vehicle continues to exhibit these dangerous problems. Most alarmingly, during a recent incident, the vehicle almost completely shut off while I was driving on the freeway. This is a critical safety hazard, and the safety of my family is paramount. I cannot accept driving a vehicle that poses such a risk of breakdown in traffic. Adding to my unease with the fuel issues is the fact that this specific vehicle has also previously required repair for seized rear brake calipers. Given the numerous reported complaints about the 2022 VW Taos model and the repeated, severe issues my own vehicle has experienced—from brake failure to dangerous fuel system problems—I am profoundly concerned about its reliability and long-term safety. The continuing issues make it difficult, if not impossible, to drive this vehicle without significant anxiety. I request an urgent and definitive resolution to these safety-critical fuel problems.

My car has been leaking cooling into the head gasket for 4 months. I have been waiting a month for parts and no update. My passengers and my safety was at risk when my car stalled out on a busy road. The problem has been inspected by the Volkswagen dealership. I found out there was a problem when my engine coolant light came on after less than one month of owning the vehicle. My front collision warning does not work correctly. It alerts me when there is vehicle in front of me or when there is a fork in the road. My car was on cruise control and came close to a vehicle and no notification or alert notified me and I have the feature set to alert me "early" to avoid collision.

It is my understanding there have been reports of issues with the rear brakes on the 2022 Volkswagen Taos. Some owners have complained about excessive brake noise, premature wear, and in some cases, problems with the electronic parking brake. These issues have led to concerns about the reliability and safety of the braking system in the Taos. It’s also my understanding Volkswagen has acknowledged some of these problems and has issued technical service bulletins (TSBs) to address complaints. I am experiencing rear brake issues on my 2022 Taos' rear brakes as stated above. I have not been issued a TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) nor has Volkswagon Corporate USA issued any recalls. My car has 18,000 miles and is scheduled to go in for service this Wednesday. When I called my dealership’s service department, the service manager stated he was aware of premature rear brake wear on the 2022 Taos. I find it hard to believe Volkswagon Corporate doesn’t know about this problem however the service manager does. An internet inquiry will prove TSB’s have been issued. One source is ChatGBT among other sources. I fully expect this to be covered under warranty and if it not, I would like to know how I can contact someone directly at the NHTSA if possible.

The vehicles brakes are engaging when driving. Can hear calipers rubbing on brake disks. Backing up the calipers are still rubbing on disks, making loud creaking noise. same noise when pulling away from stop light. The red alert warning vehicle to close in front comes on with no vehicle present in front. I’m guessing the automatic electronic braking system has a serious flaw that manufacture is ignoring. I have taken my Taos in for 1 year / work 10,000 mile inspection. I was told my breaks are worn and I should monitor them. This should not be happening when the car is one year old with less than 10,000 miles. I believe inferior brakes were designed for the car. This seems to be major complaint for many of us who purchased the car in the first year. The ECU light that has come on 3 times over the year is a problem. No known diagnosis for the problem.

The vehicle has a lag that keeps it from properly accelerating from a stop, it also seems like there might be an issue with the transmission because the vehicle will jerk back and forth when letting off of the gas like it is a manual transmission but it is an automatic transmission. It seems like the vehicle never knows what gear it should be in.

While attempting to accelerate from a stop, my Taos began to shake, the check engine light began flashing, and the car felt as if it were going to stall. I pulled over, turned the car off, turned it back on, and the car was drivable. This occurred around 5,000 miles. The dealer confirmed multiple misfires and a high pressure oil leak. The parts were replaced. My taos has a terrible lag when accelerating. This is a constant problem. It barely moves then all of the sudden it will take off, causing the wheels to spin out and your head to hit the headrest. This is extremely dangerous and has almost caused multiple accidents for me. I took the vehicle in to service and they stated that the Emission pump valve was stuck open, causing it to drive badly. The pump was replaced at around 6,000 miles. The car continued to drive badly and at approx 7,000 miles, I was accelerating from a stop when the car began to shake again and would not accelerate. The check engine light began flashing and the start/stop error message appeared. I pulled over and turned off the car. I turned it back on and the engine light went off but the start/stop still did not work. I brought it to the dealer and they confirmed additional engine misfires. The dealer cleared the codes and advised me to use premium gas. The Taos is supposed to run on 87, not premium. There are multiple online forums for Taos Owners. A concerning amount of people have complained about these exact same issues with their vehicles and that VW's "fix" is to run premium gas. This vehicle seriously needs to be looked into, as it is posing a serious safety hazard to all involved.

My car has lagged two different times and would not accelerate causing me to get off the road and turn the car off. The two occurances were about 6-8 months apart from eachother. The engine recorded multiple misfires and the second time it happened I was able to get a video of it. The dealership said that I ran out of gas the first time, even though I had a quarter of a tank and said that it went into lower power mode. The second time it happened they didn't know what was wrong with it because they couldn't reproduce the problem. I have also had problems with the sudden collision light coming on even though there is nothing in front of me. At times the car breaks on its own if I'm using the cruise control, making sudden stops. I have told the dealership this problem as well, but they didn't know what to do because they couldn't reproduce the problem. The final problem I'm having is with the brakes. My car has about 33, 000 miles on it and I had it in for service early February for an oil change. When it was in they said I needed new tires, but said nothing about my rear brakes needing to be changed. I then took my car in to get new tires about a month later and the company said that my rear brakes were going to need to be replaced soon. After traveling just under 800 miles, my brakes started to grind and were showing that they needed to immediately be changed. My front brakes are like brand new brakes. Multiple mechanics have expressed that my brakes shouldn't have worn so quickly and that if anything it should be the front brakes, not the back. I recently called VW to ask if there was a problem with the brakes and they said no. However, after investigating more online, I found that it is a problem in other Taos vehicles.

I have had start/stop error a few times but the other day I turned my car on and it said car on and chimed that a door was open even tho no light was on indicating which door. So I got out and re closed all of them. I get back in my parking brake is on now and won’t come off. So I shut the car off give it a few minutes and turn it back on. I was able to get the parking brake off to back out of my parking spot as I’m pulling out of the parking lot I was in my parking brake comes on in the middle of the intersection. I had to turn my car off to get the parking brake to go off.

While driving down the road at a speed of 45mph my vehicle decelerated to a speed of 20mph. Vehicle would not let me accelerate to get out of the road to safety. Check engine light started flashing, EPC light came on, tracks control light came on, and caution symbol under oil gage came on. VW of Macon erased 7 stored codes after doing a diagnostic. The technician was unable to find the issue or repair. I was told by the dealership that they have had several other vehicles like mine to do the same thing after I voiced safety concerns and life threatening concerns if traveling on the interstate. I was informed that this issue happened to someone going on the interstate at a speed of 85mph. This is an extreme safety issue and It should be addressed immediately.

While driving, there is a significant lag in acceleration after pressure is put on the gas pedal. There have been multiple instances where I have been making a left turn across traffic and the lag in acceleration has caused me to almost get into an accident. Downshifting and attempting to accelerate immediately after also produces a significant delay, which prohibits the driver from avoiding accidents if needed.

The vehicle has had repeated issues related to the fuel system, including strong fuel odor inside the cabin, a gurgling sound coming from the fuel tank area, and recurring check engine lights shortly after a previous recall repair was completed. The most recent diagnostic from the dealer indicated a faulty fuel tank pressure sensor (G400), but I was initially told the vehicle needed a fuel pressure release valve. There has been inconsistency in the diagnostics and explanations provided to me. The fuel smell in the cabin and apparent pressure issues in the tank created a safety concern for me and my passengers, especially while driving with windows closed or using cabin heat. I am concerned about a potential fuel leak or improper tank venting. The problem has occurred multiple times, including at least five check engine lights after the recall repair. The dealer has inspected the vehicle several times, but the issue has not been fully resolved, and additional related parts (such as the tank shutoff valve) were recommended for replacement. Warning lights included repeated check engine indicators, and the fuel odor occurred each time the issue recurred. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request.

The vehicle has ongoing acceleration delay and jerking under normal driving, along with repeated premature rear brake wear and a major coolant leak that required head gasket replacement. The most recent incident occurred on August 8, 2025, immediately after picking up the vehicle from a service visit for the acceleration concern. Two separate throttle delays with a sudden jerk forward occurred at approximately 5:47 PM and 5:50 PM in moderate city traffic at 79°F. These incidents put my safety and the safety of other drivers at risk, as delayed acceleration can prevent safe merging, crossing, or passing. Within the first 25,000 miles of ownership, the vehicle has also required one rear brake replacement and a second replacement was recommended due to premature wear, which could reduce braking performance and stopping distance. Additionally, a coolant leak ultimately required head gasket replacement. Suspension components, including a knuckle, have also been replaced under warranty. The acceleration problem has been reported to authorized Volkswagen dealers, but was documented as “could not reproduce” despite occurring minutes after pickup. Coolant leak and brake issues have been confirmed and repaired or recommended for repair by dealers. There were no warning lights or error messages prior to the acceleration incidents.

About a month ago I saw paint flaking off from about the front windscreen where the sunroof meets the body about quarter sized. The paint appeared not to hold to the body of the vehicle even though the primer was applied. A month later it's about the size of 2 credit cards and definitely the primer on the vehicle is not holding the paint and is a manufacturer defect. I reported this to the dealer but they said it's out of warrenty. Other owners with this vehicle reported the same flaking from the same area on online forums and on the news. I would like the manufacturer to fix this before rusting happens on the body of the car and more serious issues occur. It is definitely a defect with the primer or paint, I never got hit by any object while driving nor saw any paint damage prior to this when I purchased the car.

Since I have bought my car, I’ve had continuous problems. The car has stalled multiple times the most recent time that it stalled. It was in the middle of the highway leaving me in a very unsafe situation and after that happened, I took it to the dealer ship and only then were they able to identify that there was a problem with the starter, even though the previous two times that I took the car to the dealership since it stalled they weren’t able to find a problem I’ve had a valve replaced on the car I’ve had tires replaced on the car i’ve had the brakes changed multiple times even though I’ve only had the car for three years my windshield wipers have been randomly going off on the car for the full three years of me having it and the service center at Volkswagen has not been able to find a diagnosis for the issue and to me that’s really unacceptable to tell a paying customer that there’s no way to fix a problem on their car I’ve also had issues with the coolant level, always going below the max amount and even after checking, they weren’t able to find issues with it. Also, my gas cap randomly opens. Also, this last time a couple days ago when my car stalled the steering wheel and gearshift both locked and I was not able to move it, and there was no proper response as to why that happened when I picked up my car from being serviced. Overall, I’ve continuously had problems with this car since I bought it and I’ve contacted Volkswagen customer care back in 2023 and now again at the beginning of 2025 and they have been very unhelpful and I want this problem resolved somehow because I do not feel safe driving such an unreliable vehicle and my family bought two of the same exact cars on the same exact day but my car is the only one that has had all these problems, but the other car is perfectly fine and it doesn’t have such extreme issues. I am filling out this form to hopefully get a better resolution since Volkswagen has done an awful job at resolving this matter

I purchased my vehicle new on 12/31/21. The vehicle currently has 19,200 miles. The coolant light went on so I took it to the VW dealership as it was due for an oil change and tire rotation soon. The dealer indicated that the head gasket is leaking internally. The parts are on back order and there is no eta. From what I have researched regarding other 2022 VW Taos owners experiences with head gasket issues, it could be 30-90 days before I get my vehicle back (which the dealership has indicated is true). There appears to be a host of other issues that people are having with their 2022 VW Taos including rear brakes wearing way too fast and other engine issues. I have no concerns with how the dealership is managing this issue, however, based on my research, I am surprised a recall has not yet been issued. I am concerned about the lifetime health of my vehicle and the issues I may to deal with after the warranty ends, if the engine is already requiring major repairs after only 2 years and less than 20,000 miles.

Rear Brake and Rotors- At about 14,500 miles the vehicle started making this screeching noise. Rear brake pads and rotors wearing out prematurely. There is no indication through the health reports sent by VW or Carfax (VW affiliated) that is nothing wrong (all healthy). I took to dealership. The customer service rep at Rudolph VW in El Paso, TX told me that "the front brakes were great and the rear brakes were at about 6/10 and to come back in a few months before the 20,000 miles warranty ran out. That VW was aware about the supplier but could not do anything at this point". This is a safety issue and its a Warranty covered issue as is under 20,000 miles. I never had a vehicle with this issue. I fear for my life. I am at about 16,500. I don't know I f am going to make it to 20,000. Another issue I have with this vehicle is that the engine light came on as I was driving. I don't think this is standard procedure, at least in any car I've ever driven and I've never heard of such a procedure in any car. In addition, the airbag light on the dash is currently on. The dealership diagnosed the problem as a damaged wire under the passenger seat. I inspected the wire and found a light gauge wire extending from the floorboard to the bottom of the passender seat, which is damaged, for reasons unknown, however is glaringly unprotected and vulnerable.

This is on going issue with VW. Every time they update the emc the car gets worse. Car has hesitation, jerking and delayed throttle response which almost got me hit 2 times when changing lanes. You depress the gas pedal and car does not going anywhere. When maintaining speed and depressing gas pedal theres no response and then all of sudden it kicks in for the speed you wanted and if not that speed you were doing it jerks, downshifts. Makes transmission go nuts sometimes. When accelerating to get on highway and you depress pedal to floor it literally spins the tires after long delay. This was demonstrated to dealer who returned vehicle stating only occasion lag tech case# 3091845. This issues are very dangerous and someone will get hurt. This has been going on since car was new. It stopped for a year and after Campaign 24IR it messed car up again.

LANE DEPARTURE,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
1 complaint
Lane assist keeps failing sporadically, Dealer unable to duplicate concern. Have pictures of failure messages. Autonomous Emergency braking failed and went off without any notice or problem to create them to go off. Have video of event where ABS goes off for no reason. This is very dangerous situation since brakes going off to stop car that shouldn't be happening. This happened at low speed what would happen if this went off at high rate of speed? Forward collision warning has gone off before for no reason with auditable alert and image on dash, but no braking. VW was able to pull event from car to determine what happened. So this is not a matter that it didnt happen but wasn't duplicated. Plus Video corresponds to event report in car systems. VW's problem is that they don't rely on customer complaints but dealers who don't report issues. If they can't duplicate problem then problem doesn't exist. Unfortunately for VW all incidents were capture with photo's and Video!! This car and all other models should be stopped from being sold. I will contact other federal agencies since it seems to be a known problem that they get away with. Video can be produced if NHTSA wants video.

2 instances occurred where the auto start/stop initiated in the midst of driving resulting in a stall and required the car to be restarted in order to start driving again. One time occurred while backing up and another while taking a turn both at low speeds. There was a recall on 2021 Volkswagen Taos’s for the same problem. I brought the car to the dealership to be assessed and the car remained in the service lot from 7/6/23 to 7/17/23, however the problem could not be recreated. Thus the car was returned to me without any solution. I clearly stated to them that I am picking up the car against my wishes as no solution was found and this has been extremely dangerous almost causing accidents.

My rear brakes are metal to metal at less than 25,000 miles. Second issue when I im driving my car will not accelerate and the warning light comes up. I have to completely stop turn it off in the middle of the road and then it will start going. I called vw and they told me that they didn’t know what it could be. Maybe water got in a sensor. This issue has happened twice and it’s scary. Third issue my automatic braking will just brake when no one is in front of me almost causing someone to hit me from behind.

STEERING,SERVICE BRAKES,AIR BAGS

UNKNOWN The vehicle lost all functionality and did not respond to any commands/requests made by the driver until railroad tracks caused the vehicle to stop and all side airbags to deploy. My girlfriend and myself were at fear for our lives as google maps was attempting to take us unto a bridge when the vehicle became unresponsive while driving. Consequently, we had to choose hard soil as the brakes and steering would not react to any of the drivers commands. I received a parcel of mail about the recall 2 days after the accident in the mail. The problem has not been confirmed by a manufacturer, the police, insurance reps or any others as Progressive auto insurance has still not been to the car to investigate since being at the body shop on May 30th, 2023 when this accident occurred and the insurance claim was made. Progressive keeps telling me to be patient when I call for an update. Not until July 6th, 2023 when they informed me that this will now need to go to a Product Manager due to a recall on the vehicle. When I search my VIN on the NHTSA and VW website, it says recalled vehicle. The independent car shop that the towing service towed the vehicle to claims that they can not look at it until Progressive comes to investigate. There were no warning lamps, nor messages nor other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure. The first appearance of the problem came via mail parcel on the evening of June 1st, 2023, days after the undiagnosed accident.

Vehicle was involved in a front end collision with left front impact. Damage spread across front of vehicle. Air bags did not deploy. Vehicle has been having electrical issues recently. Head unit will do “hard reset” while driving disabling all safety features. Car also will alert fob not present after vehicle has been started and is in motion. Other times fob will unlock doors but will get alert message that fob is not found in vehicle. Alerted dealership and manufacture but never received a response other than the dealership saying “no codes have been stored” and that they were unable to help me from there.

I had a check engine light, epc warning, lane assist deactivated and stop start disabled all at once while on a drive in a remote area without cell service. The car had a dangerous loss of power. I brought it to the dealer and they told me there is no fix as its a common software issue that apparently faulty detects bad gas. All they could do was reset the code and say it may happen again, and recommend higher octane fuel. VW corporate was no help & I opened a buyback case. I don’t trust this car and dont think its safe to drive. This is the second time brought in for a stop start stall issue. Under 4k miles.

I was driving down the interstate on 6/24/2022 with ACC turned on and was in traffic. The semi truck in front of me came to a complete stop, but my VW Taos did not stop or slow down, so I had to intervene in order to prevent an accident. After I came to a complete stop, my vehicle started beeping, flashing errors on the dashboard for every safety system on my car including the Airbags, Traction Control, Anti-lock Brakes, all Safety Sensors, Cruise Control, and something called Brake Booster. It stayed like this for about 10 minutes. After moving more, traffic came to a complete stop again, so I took the opportunity to turn my car off and restart it, and the warnings came up again. After 5-10 more minutes, the errors finally cleared off my dashboard. This made me very concerned that I would not be protected if I were in an accident. This is the third time my vehicle has done this since owning it.

The contact owned a 2022 Volkswagen Taos. The contact stated while driving in the parking lot at work, the engine stalled, she turned the vehicle off, waited to restart the vehicle, and drove the vehicle but could not stop. The contact crashed into the fence. There was no warning light illuminated. The air bag did deploy. The contact suffered some injuries that required medical attention. The contact suffered an abrasion to the wrist and a sprang right wrist also injured her nose. The vehicle was towed to a collision shop and deemed a total loss. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 5,000.

The rearview camera on our new Volkswagon TAOS does not work. We leased the TAOS on 12/27/21 and the rearview camera malfunctioned for a short time and then completely stopped working soon after. We took it to dealership twice and called Volkswagon several times but were told they do not have the part to fix it. We have two toddlers at home and neighbor children regularly play at our home. We are very concerned about safety of the vehicle, but it is our only vehicle. We are aware of Part 573 Safety Recall Report 20V-716 concerning a similar defect being non-compliant with FMVSS 111 on “Rear Visibility.” We emphasize that the rearview camera on our new vehicle does not work at all, despite FMVSS 111.

EPC, AUTO/SWITCH OFF ERROR, LANE CONTROL, CHECK ENGINE AND YELLOW TRIANGLE EXCLAMATION MARK LIGHT ARE ALL ON AGAIN - 4th time same issue, the engine was about to stall on me and luckily I was close to my house. Additionally there was the issue with a part recalled related with the fuel. The car was shaking when hitting the gas and seemed like engine was about to give out. This car is not safe to drive and I’m reporting this safety issue with NHTSA due to many previous recalls on this model and will be applying for lemon law on Monday. There is a history of recalls with this model and I no longer feel safe. Unacceptable I have leased this car for six months and 4th time I’m having issues. I already had to stay with a rental car twice all together while they “repair” the issue and reassure me the car is safe. I rely on my car for work and I’m always on the highway. Today I had my entire family in the car and the engine almost gave up on me in the middle of of major busy road

MIB infotainment system blanks out, simultaneously sending error code to driver center console rendering it useless. Key functions are therefore inoperable or inaccessible, including (but not limited to) TPMS monitoring / alert warning, rear view camera display, and potentially a host of other safety and advanced driver assist functions.

A stop sale order was placed the following Monday after I signed my lease of the 2022 VW TAOS with 4MOTION. Not only was I not contacted about this safety recall but upon taking it in for severe turbo lag reasons on Sep21 I was informed that it was unsafe to drive and needed to be kept for an undetermined extended period of time with no loaner or rental. I’m paying 500 a month to lease and insure a brand new car that I simply cannot use? It’s unacceptable. VW needs to buy back my car so that I can be in a reliable safe vehicle from somewhere else.

When I depress the accelerator, the car jumps ahead or stalls. I took this to the local dealership and was told this car is on a do not sell list- 1 day after purchase. They, along with VW customer care has advised against driving the vehicle and encouraged it be towed to a dealership. This is my only vehicle and without it I have no transportation. They are unable to provide alternate transportation. I have been working with VW customer care.

I just returned my leased 2017 Tiguan and leased a 2022 Taos. The Taos does not have a front passenger seat height adjustment. When I test drove the Taos, the tall vw salesperson was sitting in the front passenger seat while I was driving and my girlfriend was sitting in the back seat. The VW salesperson did not tell me that there is no front passenger seat height adjustment. My girlfriend cannot see over the dashboard when sitting in the front passenger seat. I purchased a seat cushion that raises her 4 inches but now the front passenger airbag light will not turn off so if we are in a car accident the driver airbag will deploy but the front passenger seat airbag will not deploy. I need to have the front passenger seat replaced with a front passenger seat that has a manual height adjustment or I need a different car. Can you please help me? I have been a lifetime loyal customer of VW Porsche Audi and do not understand why a manual front passenger seat height adjustment would not be included in any of your products. The VW salespeople need to make sure that customers know that there is no front passenger seat height adjustment prior to purchasing the Taos S and the Taos SE. The Tiguan S models that I had all had front passenger seat height adjustment. Can you please help me? Thank you.
