The contact owns a 2012 Volkswagen Tiguan. The contact stated that the vehicle was experiencing excessive oil consumption. Additionally, while driving at 65 MPH, the vehicle stalled. The contact was able to pull over to the side of the road. The vehicle was able to restart. The check engine, EPC, and TPMS warning lights were illuminated. The contact stated that the failure had been recurring while driving. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed with engine failure. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired due to the cost. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 135,000.

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Defective Primary Engine Water Pump, yes. The original primary engine water pump system for a 2012 VW Tiguan 2.0 was replaced under the VW extended warranty in 2020 by an authorized dealer as a the result of the class action suit---please see Water Pump Class Action and Limited Warranty Extension bulletin issued by NHTSA. The replacement primary engine water pump system installed in 2020 has been found to be defective in March 2025 and the primary engine water pump requires replacement a second time -- without a warranty extension and less than five years from the date of service of the replacement under the Water Pump Class Action and Limited Warranty Extension issued by NHTSA. VW is still using defective primary engine water pump systems throughout the warranty period----does the NHTSA have any evidence that VW made modifications to the primary engine water pump system after the bulletin issued by NHTSA? Was it a requirement that VW modify the primary engine water pump system? I have been informed that no changes were made to the VW primary engine water pump that was used to replace defective primary engine water pump systems as a result of the Water Pump Class Action and Limited Warranty Extension. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? A defective primary engine water pump is a safety risk because it creates a potential for engine failure. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? The problem has been confirmed by an authorized VW dealer. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? UNKNOWN Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? Indicator warning lights on dash--RED.

The engine could not be started after 13 years and 103,000+ miles. I had to get the car towed to my garage at night, after several prior trips same day. There were no check engine lights or any other indicators. The engine had newer spark plugs, ignition coils and pcv valve installed as well as chain checked a year prior to this. Had a mobile mechanic come by and inspect the car. He determined that the engine has lost compression and that the oil was low. The spark plugs were soaked in gas because engine could not properly compress and ignite the fuel. After adding oil the problem did not go away. He performed the compression test and confirmed his suspicion about engine not being able to compress the fuel. The most likely cause was the timing chain issue but he could not inspect the chain to confirm due to difficulty of doing it. The engine valves were not moving as expected as well. He could not read any meaningful codes from the car computer. There were no electrical or starter issues, just that engine has lost compression. The car had regular oil changes, break fluid changes and tire rotations. Just two weeks prior to car breaking down it passed emissions test. As far as I know, these vehicles have had issues with timing chains stretching out and VW has sent out a recall about these issues a while back. I don't believe my vehicle was under this recall. This vehicle has had all recalls addressed. At this point I will have to get rid of the car because the cost to fix this issue will be the same or more than the car is worth.

I was accelerating on the highway when my engine started making a rattling sound and the check engine light came on. I took my car into a specialty European auto shop and they determined my timing chain and tensioner needed replacing. The price is going to be over $5k and there are only 113,763 miles. I’ve always taken my car to a VW dealership for scheduled maintenance. As others have mentioned I never received a notice about this problem earlier from VW.

Pulling out of parking space with steering wheel turned to the left. Heard and felt a "click/grind" in steering wheel and airbag error light illuminated on dash.Front driver airbag error, airbag will not deploy in the event of a collision. Horn does not work. Steering wheel controls do not work. Airbag error warning light displayed on dash and alarms during vehicle ignition. Clock spring defective. Problem was confirmed with independent service center and dealership. VW of America notified. Clock spring is covered under warranty but is on an indefinite national back order, could be months, years or eternity. Car is unsafe to drive without resolution from dealer or Volkswagen.

Bought vehicle used--had apparently been taken in at some point prior to our purchase for clock spring recall. Clock spring has failed and cannot find replacement part at any US-based source. Driver's airbag now deactivated.

SEVERAL MONTHS TO A YEAR AFTER I HAD THE CLOCK SPRING REPLACED MY CAR WAS PARKED AT THE AIRPORT FOR 4 DAYS. WHEN I GOT BACK THE AIRBAG LIGHT WAS ON AND THE HORN STOPPED WORKING. I CONTACTED MY LOCAL DEALER AS WELL AS VW AMERICA. I WAS TOLD ITS NO LONGER COVERED AND IT WOULD BE OVER $600 TO REPAIR IT. I WAS ALSO TOLD BY THE DEALERSHIP THAT AN AIRBAG RECALL WOULD BE COMING SO DON'T REPAIR IT AS THEY WILL ONLY REIMBURSE YOU UP TO 50%. SO HERE I WAIT FOR A RECALL ITS BEEN 2 YEARS......

STEERING

Steering wheel gets locked up while driving; power steering fails. The red steering light turns on. This is a problem that happens to several Tiguans. There were no prior symptoms prior to failure. This is extremely dangerous and difficult to deal with while driving, especially on the freeway. please help.

The front headlight does not work on one side but the high beam and running lights still work on both sides. Might be an issue with the ballast or electrical system. A few days later my car would not start in the morning. The engine would crank but never start. There were no warning lights or signs of anything not working correctly. Seems like it might be because of the timing system either the belt/chain or the tensioner. Have to get cared towed to shop to have inspected and prices for repairs are very high. I've owned this vehicle for only 3 months.

Our daughter's veh. has mold in the rt front & rt rear seat flooring. The inside of the windshield has water to the point that it is very hard to see out of it at night and the pano. glass roof also has water inside of the suv as well. We have taken the veh. to (2) glass shops & a body shop & they are saying this is a safety & defect issue with this model. We researched on this & there are thousand of consumers who have the same complaints & concerns about the mold that this has caused & also many cases electrical issues inside this model suv. no matter what year same issues. We also know of a relative same thing same model & leakage as well and luckily hers so far no mold as of yet. Our daughter cannot use this suv due to the mold & is forced to use another veh. to get to college. We have video and photos showing the water in the veh & inside the rt windows during the night & day time. We have tried getting this resolved & have done all we could in so far as also going to the dealership but they did not want to hear it nor their VW "Care" dept. as well they just stated to contact NHTSA as our veh. could be included as again there are numerous complaints on this issue. I WOKE UP AND THERE WAS WATER ON THE ON THE RIGHT PASSENGERS' SIDE FLOOR. YET IT HASN'T RAINED IN ALMOST A MONTH. I DON'T KNOW HOW IT WAS THERE BUT MADE THE DISCOVERY AFTER CARRYING A PASSENGER AT THE FRONT AND BACK SEAT.

AT 36,100 MILES MY ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND I WAS TOLD I NEEDED A NEW TURBO UNIT AT THE VW DEALER/SERVICE CENTER WHERE I PURCHASED THE CAR. I COULDN'T AFFORD IT SO WENT HOME AND TOOK IT TO THE LOCAL DEALER AND SPOKE WITH A COUPLE OF OTHER VW MECHANIC FOLKS, INCLUDING ONE OF THE LOCAL DEALER'S MECHANICS WHO OFF LINE SAID IT WAS A COMMON PROBLEM AND TO NOT WORRY ABOUT IT. THEY WOULD JUST RESET THE ENGINE LIGHT. AT 47,773 THE RESETTING WOULDN'T WORK AND WHEN INSPECTED, IT DIDN'T PASS AND I AM ONCE AGAIN TOLD I NEED A NEW TURBO UNIT. FROM WHAT THE SERVICE TECH SAYS, THE WASTE GATE IS WORN OUT. THIS HADN'T COME UP BEFORE. I'M NOW IN THE PROCESS OF HAVING IT REPAIRED. I CONTACTED VW CUSTOMER CARE AND THEY WERE NOT WILLING TO HELP WITH THE COST OF THE REPAIR WHICH IS $2,200 OR MORE. IN ADDITION, IN AUGUST 2016, I HAD A MAJOR PROBLEM WITH THE FUEL INJECTION. THE PART HAD TO BE MADE IN GERMANY. VW RENTED A CAR FOR ME FOR SEVERAL MONTHS. THEY ALSO PAID THE ENTIRE BILL. AT ONE POINT THEY OFFERED TO SELL ME A NEW CAR WITH A REDUCED PRICE. NEEDLESS TO SAY, I GREATLY APPRECIATED THIS AND I KEPT THE CAR. I LOVE THE CAR MAKE AND MODEL, IT HAS NOT BEEN A SMOOTH ROAD, HOWEVER. THE CAR IS SIX YEARS OLD WITH 47,773 MILES. OBVIOUSLY, THE WARRANTY RAN OUT AFTER THREE YEARS OR 30,000. I HAD MY LAST CAR, A HONDA ACCORD COUPE FOR 13 YEARS, OVER 125,000 MILES, WITH NO MAJOR PROBLEMS. IN ANY EVENT, IN THE PROCESS OF GETTING QUOTES ON REPLACING THE TURBO UNIT, I HAVE LEARNED THAT MANY LOCAL FOREIGN CAR SERVICE CENTERS HAVE BEEN VERY BUSY REPLACING OTHER TIGUAN OWNERS' TURBOS! SOUNDS LIKE VW SHOULD HAVE DONE A RECALL ON THIS ISSUE LONG AGO!

AFTER I TURN THE CAR OFF, THE FUEL HOSE CONNECTED TO THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMPS DOESN'T POPS OFF AND GASOLINE LEAKS ALL OVER MY ENGINE. THIS STARTED HAPPENS REPEATEDLY NOW. WHEN I GET INTO MY CAR, IT IS FILLED WITH THE SMELL OF THE GASOLINE THAT IS LEAKING BECAUSE THE HOSE DOESN'T STAY ON THE FUEL PUMP. I HAVE TO POP OPEN MY HOOD AND SLIDE THE HOSE ONTO THE FUEL PUMP BEFORE I START DRIVING. I'VE TRIED USING DIFFERENT BRACKETS TO KEEP THE HOSE TIGHT ON THE FUEL PUMP, HOWEVER, THE HOSE KEEPS ON FALLING OFF. I'M NOT SURE WHAT ELSE I CAN DO, AND I CAN'T IMAGINE HOW DANGEROUS IT IS THAT THERE ARE POOLS OF GASOLINE SITTING AROUND MY ENGINE.

THE GAS TANK DOOR OFTEN GETS STUCK AND WON'T OPEN. IT HAPPENED AT LEAST TWO DOZEN TIMES TO ME. THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN BECAUSE IT HAPPENS WHEN GAS LEVEL IS VERY LOW. ONE TIME IT WAS NEAR MIDNIGHT AND I WAS AT A GAS STATION IN THE VERY REMOTE AREA. I WAS CONCERNED ABOUT MY SAFETY. IF YOU SEARCH ONLINE, YOU WILL SEE THIS IS A WIDESPREAD PROBLEM FOR VW AND AUDI CARS. IT IS EVIDENT THAT IT IS A DESIGN FLAW THAT VW HAS REFUSED TO ACKNOWLEDGE IT. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 VOLKSWAGEN TIGUAN. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL REPAIR REMEDY FROM THE DEALER FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V441000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE). SHORTLY AFTER THE DEALER'S REPAIR, THE VEHICLE HAD A STRONG HESITATION AND STALLED SEVERAL TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP AND PROVIDED FURTHER TESTING. THE FAILURE RECURRED RANDOMLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL FILTER AND INTAKE FUEL PUMP WERE PUTTING OUT LOW FUEL PRESSURE. IN ADDITION, THE DEALER CLEARED THE CODE FOR THE FUEL PUMP SUPPLY MODULE AND TEST DROVE THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT WAS UNCERTAIN IF THE DEALER'S REPAIR AND THE RECALL REPAIR PROVIDED A SOLUTION. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 32,000.

IN OUR 2012 VW TIGUAN SEL, THE DRIVER SIDE SHOULDER SEAT BELT WOULD REMAIN AND/OR ENGAGE IN A LOCKED POSITION INCORRECTLY. THIS WOULD CREATE A VERY DANGEROUS AND STRESSFUL SITUATION FOR US. IT WOULD PREVENT US FROM BEING ABLE TO STRAP IN (WHICH IS ALSO A LAW IN OUR STATE). WE WOULD PULL ON THE DRIVER SIDE SEAT BELT AND IT WOULD LOCK'MAYBE GETTING A FEW INCHES OF SLACK AND CLEARLY NOT ENOUGH TO STRAP YOURSELF IN. THE VEHICLE COULD EITHER BE ON OR OFF WHEN THIS OCCURS. IN ADDITION, IF YOU WERE ABLE TO FINAGLE THE SEAT BELT OUT, SLOWLY AND PATIENTLY WHILE IT CONTINUALLY LOCKS AND GAINING ENOUGH SLACK TO STRAP YOURSELF IN AFTER MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS, IT COULD INCORRECTLY LOCK WHILE YOU ARE DRIVING PREVENTING YOU FROM MOVING YOUR TORSO AROUND TO PROPERLY CHECK BLIND SPOTS, MIRRORS, ETC. OUR SITUATION QUICKLY GOT WORSE TO THE POINT WHERE WE COULDN'T EVEN GET ENOUGH SLACK TO STRAP OURSELVES IN AND WERE FORCED TO DRIVE WITHOUT A SEAT BELT. WE HAD NO CHOICE BUT TO GET THIS FIXED AND PAYED THE DEALERSHIP OVER $600. WE WAITED SEVERAL DAYS FOR THE 'FAULTY PIN MECHANISM/ASSEMBLY' AND PART TO ARRIVE AT THE DEALERSHIP BECAUSE THEY SAID IT'S NOT A COMMON PART THEY KEEP IN STOCK AS IT'S NOT SOMETHING THEY TYPICALLY HAVE TO FIX. THIS IS CORRECT, A SEAT BELT ASSEMBLY/DESIGN SHOULD NEVER FAIL! I'VE VISITED FORUMS ONLINE AND READ ABOUT OTHER 2012 VW TIGUAN OWNERS WITH THE SAME ISSUE. PLEASE RECALL THIS TO AVOID ANYONE FROM GETTING SERIOUSLY HURT.

THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT ONCE LATCHED THE SEAT BELT WOULD NOT ALLOW HIM TO LEAN FORWARD LIMITING HIS VIEW OF THE SIDE MIRRORS AND WINDOWS. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED AS WELL AS WHEN THE KEY WAS NOT IN THE IGNITION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000.

The contact owns a 2012 Volkswagen Tiguan. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the instrument panel display turned on and turned off intermittently. The contact continued driving at an unknown speed. The contact had since experienced failures related to the electrical system, with the interior and exterior lights not working as needed, the door open indicator malfunctioning, and the infotainment unit not working as needed. There were several unknown warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 154,000.

WATER IS LEAKING FROM THE SUNROOM ON THE PASSENGER FRONT SIDE WHEN IT RAINS. I AM CONCERNED BECAUSE IT IS SOAKING THE AREA AROUND THE ELECTRONICS, AND HAS FLOODED THE FOOTWELLS OF THE FRONT AND REAR PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. IN ADDITION, NOW THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE HVAC SYSTEM IS NOT FUNCTIONING PROPERLY AND I CANNOT DE-FOG THE ENTIRE RIGHT SIDE OF THE WINDSHIELD WHILE DRIVING. THERE IS ALSO SIGNIFICANT MOLD BUILD UP FROM THE DAMP AREAS, AND IT DOESN'T SEEM LIKE A GOOD IDEA TO BREATHE THAT IN. WATER DRIPS AND SOAKS THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE VEHICLE WHEN STATIONARY OR IN MOTION IN THE RAIN. LEAK HAS BEEN GETTING PROGRESSIVELY WORSE OVER THE LAST SEVERAL MONTHS.

WE ALREADY HAD A PRIOR COMPLAINT IN ABOUT THE MANUFACTURERS DEFECT OF THE DRAINAGE SYSTEM IN THIS VEHICLE ODI# 412775589 REF# 238025. WE SAID IT WAS AFFECTING THE ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS IN THE CAR. TODAY WE HAD TO REPLACE THE IGNITION STARTER BUTTON DUE TO THE CONDENSATION. WE HAVE ALSO CONTACTED VOLKSWAGON PRIOR TO THIS, BUT THEY JUST IGNORE THE ISSUE.

ON THIS JULY 4TH HOLIDAY, THE ENGINE OF OUR 2012 TIGUAN (LESS THAN 52K MILES, FIRST OWNER) BEGAN TO STUTTER ON THE FREEWAY AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STARTED TO FLASH. THIS OCCURRED AT 70 MPH IN THE FAST LANE OF A 6-LANE FREEWAY AT A MERGE (I-85 AT THE MERGE WITH GA-400 SOUTHBOUND). EVEN AS THE VEHICLE DRAMATICALLY LOST SPEED, WE WERE FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO BE ABLE TO PULL OVER INTO THE SLOWER LANES SAFELY. TRAFFIC WAS LIGHT AND FAST THAT AFTERNOON. I PROMPTLY SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT WITH THE VW DEALERSHIP (NALLEY VW OF ROSWELL) FOR THE FOLLOWING MORNING, ANXIOUS TO FIX THE PROBLEM. THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN RAN DIAGNOSTICS ON THE VEHICLE AND ADVISED ME THAT I NEEDED TO REPLACE ALL FOUR IGNITION COILS AND SPARK PLUGS. I WAS INFORMED THAT CYLINDER 2 WAS MISFIRING. I WAS SURPRISED TO FIND THAT COILS WOULD FAIL AT AS LOW A MILEAGE AND HAD CREATED AN UNSAFE SITUATION FOR US. IT APPEARS THERE ARE NUMEROUS INSTANCES OF COIL FAILURE FOR THIS VEHICLE. I CONTACTED AND INFORMED VW OF THE ISSUE. THEY DECLINED TO TAKE ANY ACTION TO COMPENSATE ME FOR SUCH PREMATURE COMPONENT FAILURE, LET ALONE ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THE FAILURE MADE FOR AN UNSAFE CONDITION ON THE ROAD. THE VW SERVICE CENTER REPLACED ALL FOUR COILS AND SPARK PLUGS THE FOLLOWING DAY, CORRECTING THE PROBLEM.

IN JAN 2018 WITH LESS THEN 58K MILES ON IT MY 2012 TIGUAN STARTED LOSING COOLANT. I WAS DRIVING AND THE THERMOSTAT SENSOR WENT OFF, I PULLED OVER AND FOUND THE COOLANT LEVEL WAS VERY LOW. THE PROBLEM WAS DIAGNOSED AS A LEAKING WATER PUMP WHICH HAD TO BE REPLACED, AT THE SAME TIME THE SERPENTINE BELT AND TENSIONER ALSO NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. I CALLED VW AND THEY SAID BECAUSE MY CAR WAS ACTUALLY BOUGHT IN 2011 THAT THE 5 YEAR / 60K POWERTRAIN WARRANTY WHICH WOULD HAVE COVERED THIS NO LONGER APPLIED (E.G. BECAUSE IT WAS AFTER 5 YEARS FROM SALE) AND THERE WAS NOTHING THEY WOULD DO FOR ME (E.G. I WAS ON MY OWN TO FIX IT). THE REPAIR WAS ~$1300 WHICH IS VERY FRUSTRATING ON A CAR WITH LOW MILES THAT IS DRIVEN CAREFULLY AND WELL CARED FOR. I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK WHEN MY VEHICLE BEGAN TO RAPIDLY DECELERATE ON THE HIGHWAY! AS IT TURNS OUT, THE TIMING CHAIN HAD FAILED AND DAMAGED THE ENGINE WHICH CAUSED THE CAR TO SHUT DOWN IMMEDIATELY. THE PARTS THAT FAILED WERE NOT DUE FOR MAINTENANCE UNTIL 200,000 MILES- MY CAR ONLY HAS 67,000 MILES. ALTHOUGH THIS PROBLEM IS WIDESPREAD IN ALL VOLKSWAGEN MODELS, THERE HAS BEEN NO RECALL FOR THE PARTS, AND THE ISSUE IT IS NOT COVERED BEYOND THE STANDARD 5 YEAR, 60,000 MILE POWERTRAIN WARRANTY. THIS COULD HAVE RESULTED IN MYSELF AND MY CHILD BEING REAR ENDED AND KILLED ON THE HIGHWAY. THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME RAPID DECELERATION HAS OCCURRED IN THIS VEHICLE- IT HAPPENED 3 PREVIOUS TIMES LAST YEAR DUE TO ISSUES WITH THE INTAKE MANIFOLD/FUEL INJECTORS. A RECALL WAS EVENTUALLY ISSUED FOR THOSE PARTS. THE 2012 TIGUAN IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE- THERE ARE MANY FAILURES AND SAFETY-RELATED TSBS BUT VERY FEW RECALLS. While making a uturn my neighborhood with steering wheel turned to the left I started to hear and feel a "clicking and grinding" noise in steering wheel. Moments later, the airbag error light illuminated on dash and has not turned off. Front driver airbag error, airbag will not deploy in the event of a collision. Horn no longer works. Steering wheel controls do not work. Airbag error warning light displayed on dash and alarms during vehicle ignition. Clock spring seems to be defective and complete power steering failure has happened on multiple occasions, in very dangerous and inconvenient situations (i.e getting on the freeway). Once the engine and computer is powered down and restarted, no longer power steering failure for the time being. No active recall but all sources say this is the recall that has been covered previously. Car is unsafe to drive.

CLOCK SPRING IN STEERING COLUMN BROKE WHEN TURNING STEERING WHEEL. AS A RESULT, AIRBAG LIGHT HAS ILLUMINATED, INDICATING AN AIRBAG FAULT. AIRBAG ERROR ALSO INDICATED ON THE DASHBOARD INFORMATION SCREEN. IN ADDITION, ALL STEERING WHEEL BUTTONS HAVE STOPPED WORKING. UPON RESEARCHING, THIS HAS BEEN A KNOWN ISSUE, AND ALSO A RECALL ITEM. IN CALLING THE LOCAL DEALER, I WAS REFERRED TO VW OF AMERICA FOR ASSISTANCE. THEY LOOKED INTO MY VIN, SND INFORMED ME THAT MY VEHICLE HAD ALREADY BEEN IN UNDER RECALL TO HAVE THE CLOCK SPRING REPLACED (2016), AND THAT THEY WOULD NOT COVER ANY FURTHER WORK RELATED TO THIS ISSUE ON MY VEHICLE. IT IS MY OPINION THAT VOLKSWAGEN, UNDER THE ORIGINAL RECALL, REPLACED THE CLOCK SPRING WITH THE SAME, OR EVEN A MORE INFERIOR QUALITY PART. THUS LEADING TO AN UNSAFE CONDITION, IN AN AIRBAG SYSTEM FAULT. THIS RECALL SHOULD BE EXPANDED TO RECTIFY ANY 'SUPPOSED" PRIOR FIXES THE VW HAD DONE, AS SO MANY ARE HAVING ISSUES AFTER HAVING THE RECALL WORK DONE.

WE RECENTLY (12-23-2014) BROUGHT THE CAR IN FOR THE AUGUST 11TH 2014 RECALL OF THE TIGUAN ECM/AIR BUBBLE ISSUE RELATED TO THE FUEL PUMP IN THE CARS. OUR CAR WAS NOT EXPERIENCING ANY ISSUES RELATING TO THE RECALL AND DESCRIBED, BUT DUE TO POTENTIAL ISSUES DECIDED TO BRING IT IN TO HAVE IT APPLIED ANYWAYS. UPON LEAVING THE DEALERSHIP, THE CAR WAS ACCELERATING FUNNY, AND WE NOTICED GAS MILEAGE HAD GONE DOWN. I THINK VOLKSWAGEN NEEDS TO STEP UP AND ISSUE A RECALL ON THESE FUEL PUMPS IF THAT IS THE CASE. THE VEHICLE IS ONLY 2 YEARS OLD AND I HAVE READ OF SEVERAL PEOPLE COMPLAINING OF THE SAME ISSUE WITH THEIR TIGUANS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED AND THE STEERING CLOCK SPRING WAS REPLACED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DEALER CONFIRMED THAT THE CLOCK SPRING WAS REPAIRED PER A PREVIOUS RECALL VIA THE PREVIOUS OWNER OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REPAIR FAILED AND IT WAS THE MANUFACTURER'S RESPONSIBILITY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE RECALL REPAIR WAS COMPLETED AND WOULD NOT BE DONE A SECOND TIME. THE FAILURE WAS NOT REMEDIED. THE RECALL DETAILS WERE NOT PROVIDED. THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY, HOWEVER WITH THE LOCATION OF THE EMERGENCY E-BRAKE BUTTON IN THE CENTER CONSOLE AND THE POTENTIAL IT CAN SHORT OUT OR BE ACCIDENTALLY PRESSED WHILE DRIVING THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SAFETY ISSUE.

Sunroof lets water in and floods in car causing electrical problems, mold, rust, ruining roof interior and carpets. The air bag and horn stopped working and clock spring needs to be replaced. I had no prior warning of that these problems would occur. I have spent thousands of dollars in repairs for electrical trying to figure out why the car stopped working and also how water was getting into car when there is no leaks around the sunroof. This puts the safety of my family as well as others on the road when my car breaks down. I wasn't able to drive my car for months during the winter because the area around the fuel tank froze from rain water sitting in area unknown.

I made a report on 11/1/19 about issues with my vehicle due to a manufactures defect that the panoramic roof drains did not drain properly and water leaked throughout the vehicle. Please refer to ODI# 41277589 and Ref.# 238025. This is a known issue with these vehicles and should have been recalled by volkswagon. On September 18, 2023 my daughter got into an accident because the vehicle shut off and couldn't stop. Air bags never went off either. It has officially been determined that there was in fact an electrical short.

Tires had 17,000 miles on them. Tire pressure was checked 6 days prior to tire failure. Tire failure occurred on 3/11/23. My 19 year old daughter and two friends were driving on I-26 just east of Columbia, SC, when the tire sidewalls spontaneously failed. The TPMS is functional and never alerted the driver to low tire pressure. I contacted Continental Tire and provided them photos, and they have brushed it off saying that the tire was driven with low tire pressure. Continental Tire recalled 94,000 tires during the same time frame that these tires were manufactured due to sidewall failures. As noted in my correspondence with Continental Tire, there was a hairline crack in the rim which Discount Tire said may have caused the low tire pressure. The TPMS did not go off - the crack in the rim was a result of my 19 year old daughter trying to get to safety while driving at 70 MPH on I-26.

REPAIR NOW DIAGNOSED AS REPLACE STEERING RACK AND WIRING MODULE. CAR HAS 112K MILES MOSTLY HIGHWAY DRIVING. NO OFF ROAD DRIVING. VW SAYS BEYOND WARRANTY NOT THEIR PROBLEM. $2200 TO REPAIR. IGNITION TURNS OVER APPROPRIATELY AND STARTS, BUT AFTER PULLING OUT OF PARKING SPOT IN A LOT OR INTO TRAFFIC, THE CAR JUST LOSES POWER. BATTERY LIGHT GOES ON AND YOU HAVE TO PUT CAR BACK IN PARK AND START IT AGAIN. THE SECOND TIME IT STARTS IT STRUGGLES BUT RESTARTS AND TYPICALLY DOES NOT LOSE POWER OR STALL AGAIN. SOMETIMES THE CAR WILL START TO LOSE POWER AND AS YOU PREPARE FOR IT TO STALL IT REGAINS POWER AND SHOOTS FORWARD REGARDLESS OF HOW LIGHTLY YOU'RE GASSING IT. I HAVE GONE FOR SERVICE MULTIPLE TIMES. THEY RULED OUT BATTERY, CONNECTIONS, ALTERNATOR, ETC. AND SAY THEY CAN NOT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM EVEN AFTER KEEPING THE CAR FOR DAYS AND DRIVING IT AROUND, YET IT HAS LITERALLY HAPPENED WHEN I HAVE BEEN LEAVING THE DEALER. THE SUNROOF FRAME IS FAULT EVEN I HAD NO PHYSICAL DAMAGE OR ACCIDENT ON MY VEHICLE. NEXT MORNING I WAS TOLD THAT IT'S GOING TO COST ME $3K+ TO FIX ALL THE STUFF THEY TELLING ME THE FOUND AND CLAIM IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE RECALLS OR OIL CHANGED THEY DID, PRIOR TO SERVICE I HAD NO PROBLEM WITH MY VEHICLE. THE BRAKES FIRST APPEARED TO BE SLUGGISH AS I WAS STOPPING FOR A LIGHT. ONCE THE CAR FINALLY STOPPED, THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER WARNING LIGHT BEGAN TO FLASH AND THE ENGINE DIED. I PUT THE CAR IN PARK, TURNED OFF THE IGNITION, THEN TURNED IT BACK ON, AND PUT THE CAR INTO DRIVE. THE ENGINE STARTED, BUT THE CAR SHUDDERED. IT DROVE LESS THAN A MILE BEFORE THE ENGINE DIED AGAIN. I WENT THROUGH THE SAME SEQUENCE IN ORDER TO RESTART THE CAR, BUT THE ENGINE KEPT DYING. IN ALL, IT DIED FIVE TIMES IN FIVE MILES, DYING FASTER AND SHUDDERING HARDER UPON RESTART. I WAS PULLING OUT ONTO A MAJOR ROAD. THE CAR HAD BEEN RUNNING FOR AT LEAST 30+ MINUTES. I ATTEMPTED TO MAKE A LEFT TURN INTO THE MIDDLE LANE. THE CAR DIED AND I WAS HALFWAY INTO THE LANE. I WAS UNABLE TO GET IT RESTARTED FOR A FEW MINS. IT EVENTUALLY STARTED AGAIN. THERE WAS NO WARNING SIGNS. THE CAR JUST STOPPED RUNNING AND CAME TO AN ABRUPT STOP. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO OAKLAND CA VW SERVICE AND I WAS TOLD THAT THE FUEL FILTER WAS CHANGED. "SORRY, WE DON'T KNOW WHAT IS WRONG WITH IT, THERE ARE NO FAULTS SHOWING BUT IF IT KEEPS HAPPENING BRING IT BACK." AGAIN, I WAS DRIVING DOWN A ROAD AT APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH. THE CAR SHUT OFF WITHOUT ANY WARNING. THERE WAS NO SPUTTERING, NO WARNING LIGHTS - NOTHING. AGAIN THE CAR CAME TO AN ABRUPT STOP. I WAS KIND OF EXPECTING ANOTHER OCCURRENCE SO I LUCKILY WAS ABLE TO PULL OFF TO THE RIGHT TO AVOID A TRAFFIC ACCIDENT. I WILL BE TAKING THE CAR BACK INTO VW OF OAKLAND. I AM DUE TO LEAVE THE STATE FOR VANCOUVER, WASHINGTON AND THEN DRIVE TO PENNSYLVANIA. AT THIS POINT THE PROBLEM IS A CAUSE FOR MAJOR CONCERN OVER THE SAFETY OF MY FAMILY AND MYSELF. WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY GOING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE ANY FURTHER. CARS WERE SPEEDING BY AND I COULD NOT ACCELERATE. EPC LIGHT CAME ON. FOR NO APPARENT REASON MANY INDICATOR LIGHTS SIGNAL AT THE SAME TIME INDICATING TIRE MONITORING SYSTEM NOT AVAILABLE, LICENSE PLATE LIGHT NOT WORKING, LEFT TURN SIGNAL NOT WORKING, BRAKES LIGHTS DO NOT LIGHT UP, ESC NOT FUNCTIONING. TRUNK ALSO WILL NOT UNLOCK. IT CAN BE RESET (I THINK, IT WORKED ON ONE EPISODE) BY MULTIPLE (10-15 TIMES STARTING AND RESTARTING CAR) AS THIS DEFAULT HAS ONLY HAPPENED A FEW TIMES AND I HAVE BEEN AWAY FROM HOME I AM UNSURE EXACTLY WHAT RESETS IT. STARTING AND RESTARTING THE VEHICLE THIS MANY TIMES CAN NOT BE GOOD FOR THE VEHICLE ENGINE ETC. THE VEHICLE SYSTEM DID THIS ERROR A FEW TIMES OVER A COUPLE OF DAYS, STOPPED THEN STARTING DOING IT AGAIN. VEHICLE DRIVES DIFFERENTLY WHEN THE ERROR OCCURS. IT STARTS OUT FROM A STOPPED POSITION AND THE VEHICLE FEELS MORE LIKE IT IS DRIVING WITH THE REAR TIRES AND FEELS LIKE IT IS SLIPPING. ON 5/3/12 @ 12,000 MILES, I WAS SLOWING @ A YIELD (10MPH) AND MY TRANSFER CASE FELL ON MY DRIVE SHAFT BREAKING IT AND THE HEAT SHIELD. VW FIXED IT AND SAID IT COULD HAVE HAPPENED AT FACTORY BECAUSE A PIECE WAS MISSING THAT CAUSED THE TRANSFER BOLTS TO BACK OUT OF THE CASE. I COMPLAINED I WANTED A NEW CAR AND JILL, THE REGIONAL CASE MGR FOR VW CUSTOMER RELATIONS WOULDN'T APPROVE OF IT. ONCE THAT WAS FIXED, 5/30/12 MY TIRE PRESSURE LIGHT CAME ON AND MY RIGHT REAR TIRE BLEW. WENT TO CHANGE THE TIRE AND THE PIECE TO TAKE THE HUBCAP OFF WASN'T IN THE CAR. VW REPLACED THE TIRE FREE OF CHARGE BECAUSE OF ALL THE TROUBLE I'VE HAD WITH IT. JILL SAID THEY WEREN'T GOING TO REPLACE THE CAR. ON 6/7/12 MY TIRE PRESSURE GAUGE CAME ON AGAIN AND I IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER AND CHECKED TIRE PRESSURE. 38 ON BOTH RIGHT TIRES, 37 ON FRONT LEFT AND 36 ON REAR LEFT. I ABSOLUTELY DO NOT FEEL COMFORTABLE WITH THIS CAR ANY LONGER. I PAID CASH FOR THIS CAR AND NOW I AM LEFT DRIVING SOMETHING I FEAR. *JS

WHILE SLOWLY ROLLING TO A STOP THE BRAKES LOCKED UP AND DID NOT ENGAGE. I HAD TO APPLY SEVERE FORCE TO THE BRAKE PEDAL. WHEN I APPLIED THE FORCE THE BRAKE PEDAL RESISTED AND POPPED BACK TWICE BEFORE THE VEHICLE FINALLY STOPPED. PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT I HAVE REPORTED TO VW AND TAKEN THE VEHICLE IN FOR ISSUES WITH THE TRANSMISSION AND THE ENGINE SHAKING. THE CAR WAS RETURNED TO ME 10 DAYS PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT.
