During a collision in which my vehicle was struck by another driver, the airbag warning light activated, my seatbelt locked in place, and white smoke with a strong electrical smell filled the cabin. No airbags deployed (frontal or side). There is now an "ERROR: Airbag" warning on my dashboard, and the seatbelt is completely locked. The vehicle currently has multiple open safety recalls for airbag systems, including frontal and side/window airbags. I am concerned that these recalls may be related to the malfunction experienced. This failure could have resulted in serious injury if the impact had been greater. I am requesting investigation and confirmation as to whether the non-deployment is related to known defects.

The clock spring is broken on the 2017 Tiguan 4 motion @ 67,017 miles. The airbag light immediately came on. The part was removed for inspection and replacement by my husband. With the airbag/clock spring disabled turn signals, wipers do not work. Steering is very hard and there is a giant hole where the airbag should be making this vehicle unsafe. I see there is a recall on clock springs but apparently this Tiguan isn’t included but it should be. First noticed this problem Oct 12 2022 The part number is 5k0953569AP

Airbag light went on at 56k miles. VW service told us it was a faulty airbag. I paid 2k to have passenger side airbag replaced. 500 miles later the airbag light came on again. I had VW service review the problem and this time they said it is the drivers side airbag. The car has never been in any accident. Airbags should last the life of the car and certainly not 57k miles.

2017 Volkswagen Tiguan airbag Clockspring has failed. Safety impact: airbags will fail to deploy if needed in the event of an accident. This is an ongoing issue with Tiguan’s and has been investigated in previous models. Part has not been inspected yet. No warning lights prior to a loud click in the steering column followed by an “Error: Airbags” notification on dash and airbag light coming on. Happened 6/18/2023

There is no power steering and unable to make a quick turn to maneuver the car around a potential hazard in the road. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes, two independent service centers. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? No Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? Just a power steering light when it failed.

Power Steering assist is completely disabled. No power steering. Intermittent problem increasing in frequency. Diagnosed as defective rack'n'pinion steering gear and related electrical components. 63,000 mi. 2017. Tiguan. After many restarts or left over night steering assist may return.

the power steering system fails sometimes. that happens most of the time when you start the vehicle. A red symbol comes on for the power steering locking the steering. When you turn off the vehicle after some minutes you can start the vehicle. sometimes works and sometimes not. you have to try couple times to make it work.

Steering column locks upon start up. The light is red on the dashboard. You can not power steer the car thus making the car unusable. The code that comes up is to replace the steering rack. This is a $2k part rebuilt and a $3k part new. This is happening on many many VWs. Ours failed at 130k miles and 6 years old. I’ve heard of others failing at 80k miles, etc. this is absurd that this is happening! a car is supposed to move and steer that’s what makes it a car. Volkswagen needs to recall this and reimburse those who have paid to have it fixed. The car is incredibly dangerous to drive with the steering rack failing.

The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who serviced the engine, and the check engine warning light was deactivated; however, the failure persisted. No further information was available. The contact stated that the vehicle also experienced excessive oil consumption. An oil consumption test was performed, and the vehicle failed the test. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 30,000.

My Tiguan does not have airbags, the tire sensors don’t work, none of the buttons on my steering wheel work. My turbo supercharger started failing and I had to spend $2,500 to fix it, which the car is not worth that plus the payments I make. The dealership says the airbags are on back order but won’t say when they’ll have it and that was over a year ago. It’s been inspected by a dealership and they won’t do anything about it.

The Infotainment system fails to start or reboots randomly causing the back up camera not to work. Teddy VW of the Bronx dealership stated it is a critical concern. The back up camera not displaying on infotainment screen is a hazardous condition when pulling out of a parking spot.

CAR WAS SHUT OFF, ON A SLIGHT INCLINE, NEGLECTING TO PUT THE GEAR SELECTOR IN PARK,BY USING THE START/STOP BUTTON. DRIVER BEGAN TO EXIT THE CAR AND NOTED IT WAS ROLLING FORWARD. DRIVER IMMEDIATELY PUT FOOT ON BRAKE PEDAL AND NOTED THE CAR WAS NOT IN PARK AND MOVED GEAR SELECTOR WHICH RESULTED IN NO FURTHER MOTION OF VEHICLE, CHECKING IT AGAIN THIS MORNING FOR CONFIRMATION, I FOUND THE PROBLEM REMAINS. NO MATTER WHAT GEAR IT IS SHUT DOWN IN ,OTHER THAN PARK, THE VEHICLE ROLLS FREELY. I HAD THOUGHT IT HAPPENED ONLY IF SHUT DOWN IN NEUTRAL, BUT IT IS ALL OTHER THAN PARK. THE PROBLEM WAS FIRST REALIZED IN A PARKING LOT, AND REPEATED THIS A FEW MINUTES AGO IN MY DRIVEWAY. I HAVE NO IDEA OF WHAT THE CAUSE MAY BE AND I REALIZE THAT THE GEAR SHIFT LEVER SHOULD BE PLACED IN PARK BEFORE SHUTTING THE CAR OFF. RANDOMLY, WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A FULL STOP, THE CAR WILL MOVE A COUPLE OF FEET THEN LOSE ALL ACCELERATION POWER. STEPPING HARDER ON THE GAS PEDAL DOES NOT WORK. THE ONLY WAY TO GET THE CAR TO ACCELERATE IS TO ENTIRELY DISENGAGE AND RE-ENGAGE THE GAS PEDAL. THIS DOES NOT HAPPEN ALL THE TIME, NO LIGHTS OR WARNINGS COME ON AND NOTHING SHOWS UP WHEN THE REPAIR PEOPLE HOOK IT UP TO A COMPUTER. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY FACTOR AS IT USUALLY HAPPENS WHEN TURNING LEFT (DOES NOT HAPPEN WHEN TURNING TO THE RIGHT. USUALLY, WHEN TURNING LEFT, A PERSON HAS TRAFFIC COMING AT THEM FROM THE RIGHT. I HAVE TRIED SEVERAL THINGS SUCH AS EASING ON THE ACCELERATOR, STEPPING QUICKER ON THE ACCELERATOR, EASING THEN STEPPING QUICKER, NOTHING SEEMS TO MATTER IT STILL JUST LOSES ALL PROPULSION AT RANDOM TIME BUT ONLY WHEN STARTING FROM A FULL STOP. It is nearly 2 years since the "clock spring wire" in the steering wheel failed. While this results in the buttons on the steering wheel not working, that is a minor inconvenience (such as not being able to reset the tire pressure warning light). The major problem is that the steering wheel air bag is not functional. Local VW dealers and VW of American customer support have been unable to obtain this part for more than 18 months. A very reliable source (local mechanic) tells me the local VW dealer has several customers with the same need for this part. We have been checking with local dealers for more than a year to see if/when this part might become available if no success.

Clock spring failure. First symptom happened 2-3 months ago, my steering wheel radio controls and controls on my touch screen started randomly freezing or breaking. 3 months later, as I was turning my steering wheel, there was a cracking sound and my air bag light came on. The next day my car died but was able to be jumped by roadside assistance, unsure if the battery dying was related. The car was taken to a VW service station and was a confirmed clock spring failure, which I understand means the airbags will not deploy when/if needed. I was told it was not under warranty.

I have had my clock spring replaced in my 2017 VW Tiguan 3 times and it continues to break. I have had a clock spring on "order" since December 2021 and the VW dealership cannot fix my car. My horn doesn't work nor does any functions on my steering wheel and I am pretty sure my drivers air bag would not go off as the light is on and happens each time my clock spring has broken. This is a known issue that VW has and the NHTSA has previously investigated the issue on a prior year recall. The only warning sign prior to my clock spring breaking each time sounded like crumpling or breaking plastic when turning the steering wheel a certain way. When it finally broke each time it was like plastic snapping and the air bag light comes on and nothing on steering wheel works. No horn no nothing. The Volkswagen dealership has replaced my clock spring 3 times one of which Flow Volkswagen in Wilmington NC tried to charge us...did but eventually refunded when I provided documentation but told me I was going to have to pay for it all and charged me over $200 to tell me it was broken and parts were on backorder and I would have to wait until they came in but was also responsible for paying for all the repairs. This would have been the second time Flow Volkswagen in Wilmington o replaced my clock spring. Please help. I don't know what to do and I am nearing my annual inspection and cannot and will not pass because I have no horn.

I was traveling down a road and my brake gave out, when i had it towed to the dealership they said the inside of the brake vacuume exploded???? I was driving with my daughter and we could not stop. I have never had brake issues with this car and we almost ended up being smashed in an intersection going downhill with no brakes I wrote to VW CEO and he never responded. They made me pay for this when it was not fair.

I was driving and the fuel gauge quit working randomly. I am unsure how much gas is in my vehicle. I have had to get several repairs since purchasing my car from Carmax including my turbo boost, fuel pump and gas line. I financed the car in 2021 from Carmax.

MY 2017 VOLKSWAGEN TIGUAN HAS 19,000 MILES ON IT. I JUST BOUGHT IT FROM A HONDA DEALERSHIP (SINGLE OWNER, LEASED) BODY IS IN LIKE NEW SHAPE. THE CAR HAS STALLED ON WHILE DRIVING 6 TIMES TOTAL, ON 3 DIFFERENT OCCASIONS, WHILE DRIVING. THE ENGINE JUST SHUT OFF WITHOUT WARNING (STALLED OUT) WHILE THE CAR WAS MOVING OVER 40MPH AND AN EPC LIGHT CAME ON. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS, AND LEFT MY FAMILY IN A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION ON THE HIGHWAY. A CAR ENGINE SHOULD NEVER SHUT OFF WHILE DRIVING AND NOW HAS ME FEELING VERY UNSAFE WHEN DRIVING IT. IT HAS BEEN IN AND OUT OF THE LOCAL VW DEALERSHIP FOR 3 WEEKS. THIS CAR IS ONLY A YEAR OLD AND HAS LESS THAN 20,000 MILES ON IT. IT SHOULD NOT BE STALLING OUT WITHOUT WARNING AND LEAVING MY FAMILY IN SEVERELY DANGEROUS SITUATIONS. THERE IS NO INDICATION BEFORE HAND THAT THE CAR IS GOING TO STALL. AFTER IT STALLS OUT IT CAN TAKE UP TO 5 MINUTES TO START AGAIN. HOLDING THE START BUTTON (WHILE PUTTING THE CAR IN NEUTRAL BECAUSE IT STALLED OUT WHILE DRIVING) TO HOPEFULLY GET IT TO START AGAIN ON A DANGEROUS HIGHWAY IN MOTION IN TRAFFIC WITH NOTHING BUT A PRAYER TO HELP US. THIS NEEDS TO BE FIXED. I WOULD RATHER HAVE MY FAMILY SAFE AND MY CAR ENGINE DESTROY ITSELF, RATHER THAN THE CURRENT PROCESS OF MY CAR ENGINE "SHUTTING ITSELF DOWN WITHOUT WARNING TO SAVE ITSELF" WHILE LEAVING MY FAMILY IN DANGEROUSLY UNSAFE SITUATIONS WHILE DRIVING WITH A CAR THAT TURNS ITSELF OFF AS IT PLEASES POTENTIALLY CREATING A SITUATION IN WHICH MY FAMILY COULD BE INJURED OR WORSE (AS IT SHUTS ITSELF DOWN WITH A MIND OF ITS OWN WHEN IT THINKS THERE IS A PROBLEM). I started to get an "airbag error" message on the dash and then noticed that my horn no longer works, and neither do any of the buttons on either side of the wheel that control the dash menus and sound/phone system. I was able to determine this is a clock spring failure. From what I read, this is not a part that is supposed to wear out or fail from the age of the car and is expected to last the life of the car. Unfortunately, I now have no horn and possibly no airbags and I can't change any view on my dash to look up anything else.

The contact owns a 2017 Volkswagen Tiguan. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to start. The contact pumped the brake pedal several times before the vehicle would start up. The speedometer started to fluctuate, and the vehicle would shudder or hesitate. Occasionally the vehicle would stall and shut-off. The contact stated that they were no longer able to operate the vehicle. The contact had not taken the vehicle to the dealer. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 58,000.

The gas pedal stopped responding during high velocity highway drive. Luckily, I was able to steer the car safely to an emergency stop. I was able to shift gear to N and than to P but the car rocked violently when I tried to switch back to D. The car was towed and a mechanic inspection suggested that it's a transmission fail.

WHEN DRIVING DOWN AN INCLINE ON THE ROAD, THE CAR WILL DOWNSHIFT SO HARD THAT THE RPMS WILL GO REALLY HIGH FOR A FEW SECONDS. I AM NOT SURE IF THIS IS NORMAL OR IF IT IS OK FOR THE ENGINE.

My [XXX] daughter was a front seat passenger in her friend‘s car the 2017 Tiguan when the driver swerved to avoid another car and struck a pole. The damage was primarily on the front passenger side of the car. My daughter hit the windshield. It was broken in two places and she sustained several other injuries. The airbags never deployed. The car was totaled. I’m interested in knowing whether or not it can be determined if the airbags should have deployed and did not, and if the seatbelt worked properly or not, and whether or not you’ve had other complaints about this make and model. I suffered a front-end collision on 11/15/2022 in my 2017 VW Tiguan. I was going on I-66 in Virginia 40-45mph back to college at Howard University, and a car stopped suddenly after being cut off, but it was raining horribly and I was in half a foot of water, so even with braking, I hydroplaned into the vehicle in front of me, causing insubstantial damage to them but very significant damage to my vehicle as well as whiplash.

Hello, I have had much trouble with this automobile. In fact it’s has become a nightmare. While driving on highway 75/85 with massive traffic in a major city, my level of anxiety was raised because I was about 15 minutes from home. I had to travel for 40 minutes. I took a chance hoping that the car did not stop or give out in traffic in the middle of the highway. First my navigating system would not function, it kept blanking out off and on or dancing around, so and I could not get it to give directions toward home. Then the dashboard began to light up with multiple lights. I’m a senior citizen over 70 years, with a compromised immune system and felt very anxious or worried for my safety as well as others and that the car would stop in a 6 lane interstate going one way in traffic. June 2022- the Thermostat housing and water pump gave out for no reason. The Control Arms Brushes had to also be replaced which should have lasted for at least 80,000 miles. At the time my automobile had only 48,000 miles as a 2017 Tiguan. On 9/16/22, I was told by the dealership that it would take 2 weeks before I could get in to them to have a diagnostic to see what maybe the problem. Right now the car is parked, I live on a fixed income, with medical problems and doctors appointments of which I can’t afford to miss. This is my only means of transportation and I don’t have multiple cars as well as I live alone. This is very frustrating!!! Out of all the automobiles I have owned, I’ve never had such problems as I have with this one. The warning lights are still showing. I counted 6 as of this date. I am asking that you will consider the circumstances and replace this automobile for the blue book value, at least, so that I can feel safe and that I’m not jeopardizing my life as well as others around. Thank you!

WHILE DRIVING AT APPROX 30 MPH SLOWING DOWN FOR A RED LIGHT, ON A CITY STREET, THE PANORAMIC SUNROOF EXPLODED. NOTHING STRUCK THE CAR, NO OTHER TRAFFIC WAS WITHIN 200 YARDS, AND NOTHING ABOVE. IT SOUNDED LIKE A POP, THEN GLASS SHARDS FELL IN REAR PASSENGER SEATING AREA. NO ONE WAS INJURED. SUNROOF IS RAISED UP, INDICATING PRESSURE FORCED IT UP AS OPPOSED TO SOMETHING HITTING FROM ABOVE.

UNDER THE HOOD FIRE PROTECTION MATERIALS COMING OFF WILL NOT STAY IN PLACE. NOTIFY PORT CHARLOTTE VOLKSWAGON FOR THEM TO DIRECTLY SEE. AND THEY HAD TO REPLACE THE IGNITION SWITCH HAD GONE BAD . ASK WHY WAS THERE NOT A WAY TO CRANK THE CAR WITH A KEY IF THE KEYLESS BUTTON GOES OUT. THEY SAID CALL A TOW TRUCK. I SAID WHAT IF A WOMEN AND CHILDREN WHERE IN DANGER AND CAN NOT GET A HOLD OF A TOW TRUCK. ANSWERS WE CAN DO NOTHING ABOUT THAT. NOW THAT IS SCHOOLING.

WHILE DRIVING AT A CONSTANT SPEED OR DECELERATING THE ENGINE WILL STALL WITHOUT WARNING. THE ENGINE RUNS SO QUIETLY THE ONLY INDICATION THAT IT HAS STALLED IS THERE IS NO POWER AND THE STEERING BECOMES MORE DIFFICULT AS THE VEHICLE GETS SLOWER. IT DOESN'T SEEM TO MATTER YOUR SPEED, IT WILL JUST STALL AND THIS CAN BE INCREDIBLY DANGEROUS. ORIGINALLY HAPPENED IN 2017 AND TOOK TO THE VW DEALERSHIP BUT THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG. IT IS HAPPENING AGAIN TODAY AND EARLIER THIS WEEK 8/19/2018

NOTHING HAPPENED, SIMPLY I RECEIVED THE LETTER FROM VOLKSWAGEN AND AN IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT COMPLIANCE RECALL 69V2 - DRIVER AIRBAG. THIS NOTICE WAS SENT TO ME IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE NATIONAL TRAFFIC AND MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY ACT. VOLKSWAGEN HAS DECIDED THAT CERTAIN 2017-2018 MODEL YEAR VOLKSWAGEN TIGUAN LIMITED VEHICLES FAIL TO CONFORM TO FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD (FMVSS) NO. 208 "OCCUPANT CRASH PROTECTION." THEIR RECORDS SHOW THAT I AM THE OWNER OF A VEHICLE AFFECTED BY THIS ACTION.

PURCHASED 05/19/2017. HORN AND DASHBOARD LIGHTS DID NOT WORK IN APPROXIMATELY 12/2017. WAS REPAIRED AND TOLD WAS A COIL PROBLEM. THEN ON 04/12/18 IT SUDDENLY FLASHED ALL THE DASHBOARD AND STEERING WHEEL LIGHTS IN THE MIDDLE OF MY DRIVING AND SUDDENLY DIED ON ME WHEN I TURNED INTO MY DRIVEWAY AND THE STEERING WHEEL GOT LOCKED. LUCKILY HAPPENED NEAR MY DRIVEWAY!! HAD TO BE TOWED AND TOLD THEY FIXED THE BATTERY PROBLEM. THE NEXT DAY IT ACTED UP AGAIN WHEREBY THE RADIO KEPT SHUTTING OFF AND COMING BACK ON! BEFORE I COULD TAKE IT IN AGAIN I WAS INVOLVED IN ACCIDENT ON 04/16/18 AND THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY CAUSING MY HEAD TO WHIP EVERY WHICH WAY!!

VW NEW MODEL INSIDE REARVIEW MIRRORS ARE SELF DIMMING (ELECTRICALLY) BUT THEY DO NOT DIM AS MUCH AS THE MECHANICALLY (DRIVER) DIMMING MIRROR OF PRIOR YEARS. DRIVER EYE FATIGUE AND GLARE, ESPECIALLY FOR OLDER DRIVERS, WITH THIS DEVICE IS MADE UNBEARABLE, ESPECIALLY WITH NEW WHITE, HALOGEN FOLLOWING HEADLIGHTS. IF THERE IS A SPECIFICATION FOR A MIRROR DIMMING FEATURE, IT IS NOT BEING MET BY VW, SINCE ANY REGULATION WOULD REQUIRE COMPLIANCE EQUAL TO PRIOR TYPE DIMMING MIRRORS.
