I HAD MY CAR IN FOR SERVICE AT MY LOCAL VOLVO REPAIR SHOP AND ONE OF THE ITEMS I HAD THEM INVESTIGATE WAS A FUEL SMELL. THEY TOLD ME THEY FOUND A CRACK AT FUEL PUMP SENDER RH SIDE. THEY MENTIONED THAT THEY THOUGHT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THIS SINCE THEY HAVE SEEN IT SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE AND THAT I SHOULD CONTACT MY VOLVO DEALER. I JUST LOOKED ONLINE AND FOUND WHAT THEY WERE TALKING ABOUT BUT IT DOES NOT LIST THE STATE WHERE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE AND RESIDE? I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER. I OWN A 2004 VOLVO S60. I RECENTLY FOUND OUT THAT THERE IS A RECALL ON MY VEHICLE AFTER MY MECHANIC TOLD ME MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS DUE TO THIS RECALL. VOLVO SAYS THERE IS NO SUCH RECALL AT FIRST, BUT UPON CALLING THE CUSTOMER SERVICE NUMBER I FOUND OUT THAT THERE IS. HOWEVER, THEY SAY IT IS VIN SPECIFIC AND THAT MINE IS NOT COVERED. MY MECHANIC SAYS THAT THIS NEEDS TO BE TAKEN CARE OF, FOR THIS PROBLEM CAN CAUSE MY ENGINE TO STALL OUT AT ANYTIME AND CAUSE MY STEERING WHEEL TO JERK AROUND ON THE HIGHWAY. TO ME, THIS IS A HUGE PROBLEM, SOUNDS LIKE THAT IT COULD POTENTIALLY KILL ME ON THE ROAD. HOW CAN SOMETHING THAT CAN BE THIS POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS NOT BE VOLVOS RESPONSIBILITY TO FIX? Starting Sunday November 27 my car started dripping gasoline on the floor, on the driver side near the rear wheel. Immediately I took it to Volvo dealer Wynne in Hampton, VA. The service specialist told me there was not any existing recall for that issue and let me go. That night I put under the leak a flat pan. That night I collected one gallon in about 8 hours. I called Volvo cars USA [XXX] explained me the car have been fixed for the campaign #09V483000 in September 14, 2010. I own the car since 2015. I asked her if the recall should be possible to do it again at no cost for me, because it falls under Safety due to the fact the car may get in fire due to the leak of gas. She asked me to go back again to Wynne Volvo dealer and tell to the service specialist that I talked to them and if they wouldn't repair my car I could open a case with Volvo Cars USA. The service specialist told me I could leave the car for inspection, but I would be responsible for at least $180 to get and estimate, but never said that they would fix it under the safety recall number 09V483000 for vehicles sold or registered in the states with hot climate like Virginia. The recall started in January 15, 2010. It covers the fuel pump that can develop cracks in the fuel pump flange. The technician said the repair they did under the recall was replacing an O-Ring gasket only not the fuel pump. The person I talked to in Service is [XXX] with Title Service Advisor. Phone number [XXX]. I called again today Wednesday November 30, 2022 to Volvo Cars USA they said they can not promise to wave the repair because they need first that I pay $180 for a car diagnostic of the issue. They would probably accept to pay part of the total charge but they would be doing it at good will. I don't have $180 to pay upfront for a safety recall that it didn't last but only 12 years. The Safety recall is valid as long as the car is in service, it doesn't matter if I am or not the first owner. GO IN TRUNK, REMOVE BLACK BATTERY CABLE, TOUCH IT TO RED BATTERY CABLE FOR APPROX 10 SECONDS AND THE SYSTEM WILL. WE'VE RESET THE SYSTEM COUNTLESS TIMES AND IT CONTINUES TO BE A PROBLEM. I WAS DRIVING MY 2004 VOLVO S60. THERE WERE NO ADVERSE DRIVING CONDITIONS, AND I WAS DRIVING NORMALLY. I WENT TO PUT MY S60 IN PARK, AND IT WOULD NOT GO PAST NEUTRAL INTO EITHER REVERSE OR PARK. MY S60 HAS A GEARTRONIC TRANSMISSION (GEARTRONIC IS ESSENTIALLY THE BRAND NAME OF THE VOLVO MANUMATIC TRANSMISSION. 1. VEHICLE STALLED 2 TIMES, LAST YEAR AND ON 08/09/2010 WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY. I WAS ABLE TO RESTART BOTH TIME. THE SECOND TIME I WAS ABLE TO RESTART AFTER 5 MINUTES AND DRIVE TO THE NEARBY THE VOLVO STORE DEALERSHIP. 2. THE DEALERSHIP DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AND DETERMINED THE BATTERY WAS THE ISSUE. HOWEVER I SEE 2 RECALL CAMPAIGN ID NUMBERS: 09V483000 AND 07V226000 WHICH MAY BE THE ROOT CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM. I TALKED TO THE SERVICE MANAGER AT THE VOLVO STORE DEALERSHIP (1051 W. CERTIFIED PREVIOUSLY OWNED VEHICLE STALLED DUE TO BUTTERFLY VALVE WITHIN THROTTLE BODY NOT OPENING FAST ENOUGH WHEN GOING AROUND A CORNER AND TOO MUCH LOAD ON THE ENGINE. LOST STEERING AND BRAKING POWER. ON 1/6/07 I WAS TRAVELING VIA INTERSTATE WHEN THE 2004 VOLVO S60T EXPERIENCED WHAT WAS DISPLAYED ON THE SCREEN AS REDUCED ENGINE PERFORMANCE, AND QUICKLY SLOWED TO ABOUT 40 MPH. I WAS VERY NEARLY REAR-ENDED AS I WAS IN THE FAST LANE IN THE PROCESS OF PASSING A SLOWER VEHICLE. I PROCEEDED TO THE NEAREST EXIT AND COASTED INTO A GAS STATION. I TURNED OFF THE CAR AND TRIED TO RESTARTED IT. HOWEVER, IT MADE A LOUD NOISE, SHOOK, AND THEN FAILED TO CRANK. IT WAS TOWED TO THE NEAREST VOLVO DEALERSHIP, WHERE THEY INFORMED ME IT WAS A FAULTY THROTTLE BODY (ETM). THE CAR ONLY HAD 58,000 MILES , 8,000 OUT OF WARRANTY. THE REPAIRS INCLUDED REMOVING AND CLEANING THE ETM, REPLACING THE THROTTLE BODY, AND ETM SOFTWARE RELOADED FOR A TOTAL OF $14,000. 3 MONTHS LATER, WHILE I WAS IN THE HOSPITAL GIVING BIRTH, MY HUSBAND EXPERIENCED THE SAME MALFUNCTION ON THE WAY TO THE HOSPITAL, LOST POWER, AND HAD TO GET ALTERNATE TRANSPORTATION. LIKE MANY OTHERS WHO ARE ON VOLVO WEBSITES HAVE REPORTED I TOO HAD A FIRE ON THE DRIVERS SEAT LEFT SIDE DUE TO MY SEAT HEATER. I NOW HAVE A HALF DOLLAR SIZED HOLE IN THE SIDE OF MY SEAT. THE FIRST SIGN OF THIS WAS A SMELL AND THEN A LOT OF SMOKE. LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER QUICKLY AND HAD A TOWEL HANDY TO SNUFF IT OUT, OTHERWISE I WOULD HAVE BURNED HANDS OR OTHER PARTS. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 VOLVO S60. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH, THERE WAS A SUDDEN LOSS OF ENGINE POWER WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY AND BODY GASKET NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 145,000.

I WAS DRIVING 35-40 MPH WHEN A VEHICLE 2 CARS AHEAD OF ME HAD TO MAKE A QUICK STOP. I DID NOT SEE THIS HAPPEN IN TIME, SLAMMED ON MY BRAKES AND CONSEQUENTLY SMASHED INTO THE BACK OF THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME, WHO THEN HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF HIM. I TOTALED MY CAR. THE PASSENGER AIR BAG DEPLOYED AND FILLED MY CAR WITH SMOKE (OR WHATEVER THAT IS) HOWEVER, THE DRIVER AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY. I WAS RUSHED TO A TRAUMA CENTER AND MY INJURIES INCLUDE MY BACK, NECK AND I LOST A TOOTH FROM MY FACE HITTING THE STEERING WHEEL. MY CHEST AND LEGS ARE COVERED IN BRUISES FROM THE SEAT BELT. I AM VERY LUCKY, HOWEVER, I DO NOT LIKE TO THINK OF WHAT COULD HAVE OCCURRED IF I WAS AT A HIGH SPEED AND ON THE FWY. AND THE AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY BECAUSE IT WAS DEFECTIVE, AND PERHAPS IT WAS NOT DESIGNED TO GO OFF IN THIS PARTICULAR INCIDENT? CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND CAR LOST POWER WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. IT WOULD NOT ACCELERATE AND DISPLAYED THE MESSAGE "REDUCED ENGINE PERFORMANCE". DEALER INDICATED IT WAS A CRACKED INTERCOOLER HOSE AND THAT CAUSED THE ISSUE. IT WAS REPLACE AND AFTER ABOUT TWO MONTHS THE SAME SYMPTOMS HAPPENED. IT WAS THEN DIAGNOSED AS A BAD ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY. THAT WAS REPLACED AND THE SAME SYMPTOMS HAPPENED WITHIN TWO MONTHS AGAIN. THE CAR NOW DOES NOT ACCELERATE MORE THAN 10 MPH. THE NEXT DIAGNOSIS WAS TO REPLACE THE COMPLETE ENGINE WIRING HARNESS. THE CAR IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE BECAUSE IT STALL OR DECELERATE FROM HIGHWAY SPEEDS WITH NO NOTICE. DRIVING HOME AFTER PURCHASING THE CAR (YEAH), I WAS TURNING INTO A PARKING LOT, SO MY SPEED WAS DESCENDING AND THE CAR STALLED. GOOD AFTERNOON, WE HAVE EXPERIENCED A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE OF THE EMERGENCY BRAKE, WHEREBY THE BRAKE LINING OF THE E-BRAKE IS OF AN "ORGANIC" COMPOUND AND ACCORDING TO THE VOLVO TECHNICIAN "SWELLS" WHEN IT GETS WET, CAUSING THE E-BRAKE TO LOCK-UP. MY BRIDE WAS IN OUR NEIGHBORHOOD WHEN THIS OCCURRED, CAUSING THE ENTIRE BRAKING ASSEMBLY AND ASSOCIATED PARTS TO BE RIPPED AND BUSTED LOOSE. VOLVO CHARGED US $2100 IN PARTS AND LABOR TO "FIX" THIS. WHEN TURNING A CORNER. I NOTICED THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON. THE THIS HAPPENED A SECOND TIME A WEEK LATER, AND THEN SEVERAL ADDITIONAL TIMES. I TOOK THE CAR TO INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND HE CHECKED IT OUT BUT COULDN'T DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. HE ONLY SPECULATED THAT IT COULD BE THE PVC BOX, BUT THAT THEY WERE NOT SURE IT WOULD FIX THE PROBLEM. THE CAR HAD APPROXIMATELY 100K AFTER THIS HAPPENED ABOUT EIGHT TIMES IN THE NEXT 3 MONTHS, I TOOK THE CAR TO VOLVO DEALER. THEY CHECKED IT OUT, AND TOLD ME IT MAY BE THE PVC BOX, BUT THEY WERE NOT SURE THIS WOULD FIX THE PROBLEM. I TOOK IT TO ANOTHER MECHANIC AND WHO SAID IT WAS THE CATALYTYIC CONVERTER. THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN ONGOING FOR A YEAR. I TOOK THE CAR TO ANOTHER MECHANIC AND HE CHANGED THE SPARK PLUGS AND CABIN FILTER. HE TOLD ME TO TAKE THE CAR TO THE VOLVO DEALERSHIP/SERVICE TO HAVE THE COMPUTER RESET. HE SAID, BECAUSE THE CAR LOOSES PRESSURE AND STALLS WHEN YOU MAKE A QUICK TURN. I CALLED VOLVO THEY SAID THIS WOULD FIX THE PROBLEM. I TOOK THE CAR TO VOLVO TO GET AN OIL CHANGE. THEY TOLD ME THE CAR STALLED OUT ON THE MECHANIC 3 TIMES AND THE CHECK ENGIINE LIGHT WAS ON. THEY CHECKED THE CAR ON THE COMPUTER AND TOLD ME THE ENGINE COILS NEEDED REPLACING. THAT WAS THE PROBLEM. I PAID FOR THE ENGINE COILS TO BE REPLACED AND SOME OTHER WORK WHICH TOTALED $1350.00. I PICKED THE CAR UP ON FRIDAY, ON MONDAY, WHILE TURNING A CORNER THE CAR STALLED OUT, NO POWER, NO STEERING, JUST ONBOARD LIGHTS. IT HAPPENED AGAIN ON TUESDAY MORNING. I EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM WHEN THE CAR WAS UNDER RECALL. THE DEALERSHIP FIXED IT, BUT IT SEEMS AS THOUGH THIS PROBLEM IS OCCURING AGAIN. WHEN TURNING A CORNER, THE ENGINE STOPPED, STEERING STOPPED WORKING AND LIGHTS ON DASHBOARD COME ON. THIS HAPPENED A SECOND TIME TWO DAYS LATER. TOOK TO INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND HE CHECKED ALL WORK HE HAD DONE IN THE PAST PLUS CHECKED THE WHOLE CAR OUT AND HE COULD NOT FIND WHY THE CAR STOPPED. TWO DAYS LATER THE CAR AGAIN STALLED OUT WHEN IN TRAFFIC - ENGINE STOPPED, STEERING STOPPED WORKING AND LIGHTS ON DASHBOARD CAME ON. LAST TWO TIMES THIS HAPPENED I WAS DRIVING ON A STRAIGHT ROAD. THIS HAS HAPPENED 5 TIMES NOW IN THE LAST WEEK. ALL TIMES ENGINE STOPPED WORKING, I WAS DRIVING BETWEEN 10 AND 40 MILES PER HOUR. AFTER RESEARCHING THIS PROBLEM, I FOUND OUT THAT MY VEHICLE HAD BEEN RECALLED AND AT 53,333 MILES THE FUEL PRESSURE SENSOR WAS REPLACED BY THE DEALER. NOW 42,000 MILES LATER IT APPEARS THAT IT IS ONCE AGAIN THE FUEL PRESSURE SENSOR. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS ESPECIALLY SINCE I DO A LOT OF HIGHWAY DRIVING AND ALSO LIVE IN AN AREA WHERE CHILDREN HAVE BEEN KNOW TO RUN OUT INTO THE STREET. NOT ONLY IS THERE A POSSIBILITY OF A CAR ACCIDENT, BUT ALSO THE POSSIBILITY OF A CHILD BEING HIT IF I CANNOT TURN THE CAR QUICKLY TO AVOID THE CHILD. AT THIS POINT I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE THE CAR AND FELL VERY UNSAFE EVEN THOUGH VOLVOS ARE KNOW FOR THEIR SAFETY. AFTER READING NUMEROUS REPORTS OF MANY PEOPLE HAVING THIS PROBLEM WITH THEIR 2004 S60 VOLVOS IT MAKES ME WONDER WHY VOLVO IS NOT CORRECTING THIS PROBLEM ON ALL 2004 VOLVO S60S THAT ARE HAVING THIS SAME PROBLEM. UPDATED 05/26/11 *BF THE CONSUMER STATED AS SHE MADE A TURN, THE VEHICLE TOOK OFF AT A VERY HIGH SPEED. THE VEHICLE WENT FORM SIDE TO SIDE AS SHE TRIED VERY HARD TO BRAKE AND STEER AWAY FROM THE INCLINE ON THE RIGHT. THIS ACTION CONTINUED FOR ABOUT 0.3 MILES, BEFORE THE VEHICLE AIR LIFTED AND THE RIGHT PASSENGER SIDE BETWEEN THE REAR DOOR AND REAR QUARTER PANEL HIT THE GUARDRAIL. THE VEHICLE THEN BOUNCED OFF THE GUARDRAIL, CROSSED THE STREET, JUMPED THE GUTTER AND LANDED ON ITS WHEELS IN A NEARBY FIELD, WHERE IT CAME TO A STOP. WHEN PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE AT MY DAUGHTER'S SCHOOL, VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED OVER THE SIDEWALK AND STRUCK THE BUILDING. TRANSMISSION POPPED IN REVERSE AND VEHICLE ACCELERATED BACKWARDS. 2004 VOLVO S60 2.5 TURBO: NO WARNING TO THE EVENTS. ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS, THE CAR FEELS AS IF IT HAS HIT A LARGE OBJECT, TEMPORARILY LURCHES AND APPEARS TO MOMENTARILY STALL CREATING A TEMPORARY LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL. THIS IS FOLLOWED BY AN IMMEDIATE LOSS OF ALL INSTRUMENT GAUGES, AIR CONDITIONER, WINDOW CONTROLS AND DOOR LOCKS. THE FAN DID CONTINUE TO WORK. THE ABS WARNING LIGHT ALSO INDICATED AS WELL AS A WARNING THAT NO BRAKES FUNCTION EXISTED. THE SRS SERVICE AIR BAG URGENT INDICATION IS ILLUMINATED. ON TURNING THE CAR OFF AND RESTARTING, THE FUNCTIONS OF THE CAR RETURN WITH EXCEPTION THAT THE SRS SERVICE AIR BAG URGENT INDICATION REMAINS. THIS PROBLEM CAN TAKE MONTHS TO REPEAT OR ONLY A MATTER OF MINUTES. IT SEEMS TO BE MORE PREVALENT IN HOT WEATHER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE SERVICE SHOP AT THE VOLVO DEALER AND THEY COULD ONLY CLEAR ALARMS AS THEY SAID THE EVENT CREATED TOO MANY ALARMS/FAULT CODES TO TROUBLESHOOT. THEY DOWNLOADED NEW SOFTWARE REVISIONS TO EACH CONTROL MODULE IN THE CAR. AFTER A PERIOD OF APPROXIMATELY A MONTH, THE EVENTS BEGAN OCCURRING AGAIN. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TAKEN TO NON OEM MECHANICS AS WELL AND THEY ARE NOT ABLE TO TROUBLESHOOT THE FAULT. THE VEHICLE IS SCHEDULED TO BE TAKEN TO THE DEALERS SERVICE SHOP AGAIN. SEARCHING THE INTERNET CHAT ROOMS AND BLOGS, AS WELL AS THIS SITE, THERE APPEARS TO BE NUMEROUS OTHER VEHICLES WITH THIS SAME SAFETY FAULT THAT STALLS VEHICLES IN TRAFFIC AND CREATES VERY SUDDEN AND SEVERE LURCHES IN POWER ULTIMATELY LEADING TO A MOMENTARY STALL OUT WITH LOSS OF ALL INSTRUMENT INDICATIONS TO INCLUDE SPEED, RPM, TURN INDICATOR, ETC. *TR

LATE LAST SUMMER, UPON STARTING UP MY CAR, I NOTICED A HISSING NOISE COMING FROM THE CENTER PANEL ON THE DASHBOARD. DIDN'T REALLY THINK ANYTHING OF IT UNTIL I TRIED TO TURN ON THE AIR CONDITIONER AND THE CAR MADE THE SAME HISSING NOISE. NOISE LASTS ONLY 5-10 SECONDS UPON STARTUP OF THE CAR OR THE AC, BUT NOW THE AC ONLY BLOWS HOT AIR. TOOK CAR TO VOLVO DEALERSHIP HERE IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA WHERE I PURCHASED THE CAR AND THEY SAID THAT THEY WERE GOING TO HAVE TO RIP OPEN THE ENTIRE FRONT PANEL TO INVESTIGATE THE PROBLEM. AS I HAVE BEEN TOLD TWICE PREVIOUSLY BY THIS DEALERSHIP THAT I NEED SERVICE THAT I DID NOT REALLY NEED (THIS WAS NOW THE THIRD TIME), I CHOSE TO HOLD OFF ON LETTING THEM PERFORM SUCH A TASK. INSTEAD, I TOOK THE CAR TO ANOTHER MECHANIC AND DESCRIBED THE PROBLEM TO HIM. HE LET ME KNOW THAT WHEN THERE WAS NO FREON LEFT IN THE AC UNIT. THEY REPLACED IT AND WITHIN ONE DAY, IT HAD COMPLETELY LEAKED. THEY THEN PERFORMED AN INSPECTION ON THE AC AND EITHER THE COMPRESSOR OR THE HOSES HAS A MAJOR LEAK IN IT. I HAVE NO ACCIDENTS AND THE CAR HAS LESS THAN 60,000 MILES ON IT CURRENTLY. THE PROBLEM WAS FIRST DETECTED AT LESS THAN 45,000 MILES ON IT. ESTIMATE ON REPAIR WAS $1500+. AT 22,500 MILE CHECKUP, VOLVO REPLACED RADIATOR ON CAR. MECHANIC SAID THAT IT WAS POSSIBLE THAT VOLVO DEALERSHIP MAY HAVE DAMAGED THE AC UNIT AT THAT TIME SINCE THEY ARE IN CLOSE PROXIMITY. IN ADDITION, AS I NOTICED ON ANOTHER PERSON'S COMPLAINT FORM, I ALSO HAVE THE RUBBING OF THE FRONT TIRES WHEN TURNING. QUITE ANNOYING AND I DO MY BEST TO AVOID THE FRICTION AT ALL COSTS. DOESN'T OCCUR ON NORMAL TURNS, JUST WHEN MANEUVERING FOR PARKING SPACES OR GETTING OUT OF MY PARKING GARAGE. *TR

I HAVE A 2004 VOLVO S60 WITH 57,700 MILES. ALL WORK ON THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN DONE BY VOLVO. RECENTLY, WHEN THE AC IS ON, THE FAN SPEED HAS STOPPED RESPONDING TO ADJUSTMENTS. NOTHING HAPPENS WHEN I TRY TO ADJUST THE SPEED AND THEN, ON ITS OWN, THE SPEED WILL CHANGE A FEW MINUTES LATER. WHEN I TURN THE CAR OFF, THE FAN CONTINUES TO RUN FOR AT LEAST FIVE MINUTES. I'M AFRAID THAT ONE DAY IT WON'T TURN OFF AND WILL DRAIN THE BATTERY. THE VOLVO REP AND AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FEEL THAT THE REPAIR MAY BE COSTLY AND JUST TO DO THE DIAGNOSTIC IS EXPENSIVE, SO I HAVEN'T HAD IT DONE WHILE I DECIDE WHETHER TO JUST TRADE IN THE VEHICLE. *TR

2004 VOLVO S60 2.5T. PURCHASED THE CAR USED IN SEPT 07. 6-5-08 PANEL DISPLAYED OPEN REAR DOOR WHILE DRIVING 65MPH ON HIGHWAY, MY DOOR WAS NOT OPENED. CAR JERKED AS IF THERE WAS POWER LOSS, AC WENT OFF, BRAKE FAILURE LIGHT ON PANEL, POWER WINDOWS AND LOCKS DID NOT WORK, TEMP 105 , THEN DRIVER PANEL WENT BLACK. CAR JERKED 3 TIMES IN MID TRAFFIC, I WAS SCARED TO DEATH FOR MY LIFE. ARRIVED AT MY EXIT, PULLED OVER TO A GAS STATION, ENGINE STILL RUNNING BUT SLUGGISH, RADIO WAS STILL ON, POWER DOOR LOCKS AND WINDOWS DID NOT WORK, AC OFF. ENGINE STILL RUNNING SO I MADE IT A COUPLE OF MILES UP THE STREET TO MY HOME. CUT THE CAR OFF AND BACK ON, ALL POWER RETURNED, NOW CHECK ENGINE AND AIR BAG TROUBLE ON PANEL. WENT TO VOLVO DEALER NEXT DAY 6-6-08 NEAR MY HOME, THEY CAN NOT SEE MY CAR TIL NEXT WEEK TUESDAY. WENT TO PEPBOYS, BATTERY AND ALTERNATOR ARE OK, CAN NOT ACCESS ENGINE BOX, MUST GO TO DEALER. CALLED VOLVO FOR TUESDAY 6-10-08 APPOINTMENT. CAR DUPLICATED SAME PROBLEM MONDAY 6-9-08 ON DRIVE HOME FROM WORK ON THE HIGHWAY TEMP 105 ETC. I WAS LEAVING UCLA PARKING GARAGE (I'M AN RN THERE) WHEN I PUT MY VOLVO 2004 S60 INTO GEAR AND IT TOOK OFF BACKWARDS LIKE A ROCKET, CAR WAS THROWN INTO A CONCRETE POST FAR AWAY FROM WHERE I BEGAN. I IMMEDIATELY PUT CAR IN PARK SINCE I THOUGHT I'D GET OUT AND SEE WHAT ON EARTH HAPPENED, BUT IT THEN LUNGED FORWARD BY ITSELF AND TOOK OFF WITHOUT STOPPING!!! THANK GOD IT WAS 6PM AND NOT AN HOUR EARLIER WHEN MANY STAFF WOULD HAVE BEEN IN GARAGE, I'D HAVE RUN THEM OVER! I ALSO TURNED OFF IGNITION WITH KEY, NOTHING HELPED!! IT KEPT GOING ALONG WITH A MIND OF ITS OWN AT APPROX 15 MPH MAKING A GROWLING WHIRRING SOUND. I WAS ABLE TO STEER CAR AND AVOID OTHER VEHICLES BUT EVENTUALLY HAD TO MAKE SERIOUS DECISION TO PURPOSELY CRASH INTO ANOTHER CONCRETE MASSIVE POST WHICH I DID AND THE "POSSESSED BEAST". FINALLY CAME TO A HALT WITH FLUID POURING OUT ALL OVER,. MY BRAKES DID NOT WORK DURING THIS EVENT, NOT AT ALL, THAT'S WHY I COULDN'T STOP THE CAR (ALONG WITH FOOT ON BRAKE, TRIED PUTTING CAR IN PARK GEAR AND TURNED OFF IGNITION KEY LAST AUGUST WHEN I HAD ONLY 22, 000 MILES ON CAR IT TOOK IT TO VOLVO DEALER TWICE, SINCE CAR WAS OFTEN STALLING AND STOPPING ON THE STREET WHILE I WAS DRIVING. I WAS TOLD THEY COULDN'T FIND IT STALLING WHEN THEY TEST DROVE IT BUT THEY MENTIONED THEY CLEANED THE THROTTLE AND SAID THAT COULD HELP (WHICH IT DID UNTIL 2, 500 MILES LATER WHEN THIS HAPPENED. I HAVE DEALER PAPERWORK INDICATING CAR STALLING AND THAT THEY CLEANED THROTTLE BOX ALSO, THEY SAID I SHOULD BE TAKING CAR ON THE FREEWAY MORE AT HIGH ENOUGH SPEED TO "BLOW OFF THE CARBON" I SPENT FRIDAY NIGHT IN ER WITH NECK/SHOULDER INJURIES, BUT THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A DISASTER. FORGOT TO MENTION THAT WHEN I TOOK CAR IN FOR SERVICE JULY 2007 DEALER REPLACED FUEL PRESSURE SENSOR AS PER RECALL. DON'T KNOW IF THIS IS SIGNIFICANT. LTR RE 2004 VOLVO S60 2.5 T STEERING DEFECT; SEEKING STEERING OF MY VEHICLE BE CORRECTED, RE-ENGINEERED TO THAT OF ANY CURRENT VOLVO SEDAN; PLEASE CONTACT HER BY MAIL OR PHONE WITHIN 14 DAYS OF THIS LETTER. *KB THE CONSUMER STATED THE TIRES WERE RUBBING AGAINST THE STEERING WELL WHEN MAKING TURNS. THE DEALER PERFORMED A TEMPORARY FIX BY INSTALLING A STEERING RACK LIMITER TO PREVENT THE TIRE RUBBING. THE CONSUMER CALLED THE DEALER BACK ONCE THE PROBLEM RETURNED AND WAS THEN INFORMED THAT THERE WAS A STEERING ENGINEERING DEFECT WITH THE VEHICLE AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS OFFERING A STEERING REPLACEMENT KIT THAT COULD BE INSTALLED AT NO COST. ONCE THE REPLACEMENT KIT WAS INSTALLED, THE CONSUMER SOON DISCOVERED THE STEERING RADIUS WAS INCREDIBLY DIMINISHED AND THAT SHE COULD NO LONGER MAKE U-TURNS AT AN INTERSECTION. THE DEALER TOLD THE CONSUMER THE STEERING KIT WAS THE ONLY SOLUTION THAT VOLVO OFFERED. THE CONSUMER STATED THE COOLANT LIGHT WAS ON. THE DEALER STATED THE RADIATOR WAS LEAKING. *JB

IN REGARD TO A 2004 S60 VOLVO 2.5 AWD-T WE NOTICED A SEAT BELT PROBLEM WITH THE BACK SEAT CENTER SEAT BELT. WE SECURED OUR INFANT CAR SEAT BASE WITH THE CENTER SEAT BELT, AND HAVE BEEN DOING SO SINCE SHE WAS BORN. THE LOCAL POLICE STATION HAD A SERVICE THAT DEMONSTRATED PROPER INSTALLATION AND INSURED WE WERE ABLE TO DO IT OURSELVES. THE OFFICER THEN INSTALLED IT FOR US WITH NO PROBLEM. TODAY WE NOTICED THE BASE WAS REALLY LOOSE! I TRIED TO REINSTALL THE SEAT BY ATTACHING IT TO THE SEAT BELT IN THE USUAL FASHION. HOWEVER, I DISCOVERED THAT THE SEAT BELT DID NOT HOLD THE BASE TIGHTLY AS IT DID BEFORE!!! IN SUMMARY- NORMAL USE LED UP TO THE FAILURE OF THE THREE POINT SAFETY BELT IN THE REAR CENTER SEAT POSITION TO PROPERLY HOLD THE BASE OF AN INFANT CAR SEAT SAFELY. WE ARE GOING TO CALL THE DEALER FIRST THING IN THE MORNING AND HAVE IT FIXED. *JB

I WAS DRIVING MY 2004 VOLVO S60 ON THE NJ TURNPIKE. WINDS REPORTED THAT DAY TO BE UP TO 50 MPH AND I AM DRIVING AT AROUND 50 TO 60 MPH WHEN I HEARD A LOUD SOUND FROM THE REAR OF MY CAR. I STARTED TO SLOW DOWN TO ENTER ONTO THE BREAKDOWN LANE ON THE TURNPIKE DRAGGING THE BUMPER AS I PULLED OVER. WHEN I GOT OUT TO INSPECT I FOUND THAT MY BUMPER COVER HAVE BLEW OFF OF THE CAR AND WAS HANGING ON DUE TO A WIRE THAT WAS CONNECTED TO IT ON THE RIGHT SIDE. I CALLED MY VOLVO DEALER AND WAS OFFERED AN APPT TO BRING IT IN. THE SERVICE MANAGER ALONG WITH HIS REGIONAL REP IS DISPUTING THAT THIS COULD HAVE HAPPENED. THEY ARE SAYING THAT THEY HAVE NEVER HEARD OF THIS BEFORE AND THAT IT COULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED BECAUSE IT HAS NEVER HAPPENED AND WILL NOT TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE REPLACEMENT UNLESS IT IS PAID FOR BY ME. NEITHER THE DEALER OR THE REP IS CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY OF THIS INCIDENT AND WHY THIS ACTUALLY HAPPENED. IT IS BY THE GRACE OF GOD THAT THIS BUMPER COVER DID NOT COMPLETELY DISLODGE CAUSING FATALITIES TO OCCUR HAD THE WIND BLEW IT IN THE PATH OF OTHER CARS ON THE ROADS. NOT ONLY AM I NOT GETTING GOOD SERVICE VOLVO IS NOT CONCERNED ABOUT SAFETY WHICH IS THE CORE OF THEIR COMMITMENT TO THE CONSUMERS. MY CHARACTER AND MY INTEGRITY AND CREDIBILITY IS BEING CHALLENGED BY THE SERVICE MANAGER AND HIS REGIONAL REP RATHER THE REASON FOR THE BUMPER COMING OFF IN THIS WAY. MY CONFIDENT IN THE SAFETY OF THE CAR AND VOLVO CUSTOMER SERVICE HAS BEEN DESTROYED. VOVLO IS SAYING THAT THIS IS THE FIRST TIME THEY HAVE HEARD OF A BUMPER BLOWING OFF. DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS AND TURNING LEFT OR RIGHT THE TIRES TOUCHES THE FRAME OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION ON FOUR OCCASIONS. THE FIRST TIME THE DEALER PLACED STEERING BLOCKS ON THE VEHICLE. THE SECOND, THIRD AND FOURTH TIMES THE DEALER ADJUSTED THE CONTROL ARMS. HOWEVER NONE OF THESE EFFORTS REMEDIED THE PROBLEM. THE PROBLEM CONTINUES AND THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN RETURNED TO THE DEALER FOR FURTHER DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. UPDATED 2/24/2006 - POWER STEERING RESERVOIR LEAKED FLUID FROM THE BOTTOM HOSE NEAR THE CLAMP. THE CONSUMER HEARD A METAL ON METAL SOUND WHILE TURNING THE WHEEL. I RECENTLY PURCHASED A VOLVO S60R AUTOMOBILE FOR EAGLE VOLVO OF RIVERHEAD NY. I RECEIVED THE S60 R IN EARLY DECEMBER AND AS OF TODAY (2-04-04) I HAVE APPROX 1750 MILES ON IT. .*AK SO WHY ALL THE DETAIL, WELL SINCE I HAVE OWNED THIS CAR IT HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP THREE (3) TIMES FOR A PROBLEM WITH THE 4C SUSPENSION SYSTEMS. THE FIRST TIME IT SPENT APPROX A WEEK AT THE SHOP AND WAS TO BE RESOLVED WITH A SENSOR REPLACEMENT. THE SECOND TIME WAS BECAUSE A SOFTWARE UPDATE WAS REQUIRED FOR THE SYSTEM, AND THE THIRD TIME THEY HAVE SPENT TWO DAYS ON IT AND ARE STILL NOT SURE WHAT THE ISSUE IS. I HAVE BEEN VERY PATIENT OVER THIS PROBLEM. I UNDERSTAND THESE THINGS HAPPEN, AND IF IT WHERE NOT FOR MY SALES PERSON WAYNE LAKE COMMITMENT TO ME I WOULD BE PROBABLY LOOKING FOR ANOTHER CAR. THAT BEING SAID I AM VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THE LEVEL OF SERVICE I AM GETTING FROM VOLVO ITSELF. EVEN AFTER I CALLED VOLVO CUSTOMER SERVICE TO ASK FOR SUPPORT IN THIS MATTER , I RECEIVED INFORMATION THAT A FIELD TECHNICIAN WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO COME OUT AND HELP IN THE RESOLUTION OF MY PROBLEM FOR TWO WEEK ( NEXT WEEK THEY ARE ALL GOING TO TRAINING) .. TO HEAR THIS IS AN OUTRAGE. I HAVE BEEN WITHOUT MY CAR FOR NEARLY 10 DAYS IN TOTAL; I HAVE LESS THE 2500 MILES, AND HAVE BROUGHT IT BACK TO THE SHOP THREE TIMES FOR THE SAME ISSUE AND EVEN AFTER ALL OF THIS VOLVO DOES NOT FEEL THAT THIS ISSUES WARRANTS A CHANGE IN SOMEONES SCHEDULE OR THE NEED TO MAKE SOME ARRANGEMENTS TO GET MY CAR REPAIRED IN A TIMELY MANNER. WORST YET , YOU WOULD THINK AFTER CALLING VOLVO CUSTOMER SERVICE AND OPENING UP A SO CALLED FOLDER THAT I WOULD RECEIVE A CALL EXPLAINING THE SITUATION OR WHAT WAS BEING DONE TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM. OR AT LEAST OFFERING MY SOME COMPENSATION FOR MY TROUBLES, LIKE A LONG TERM LOANER CAR TO REPLACE THE CAR I DO NOT HAVE DUE TO THIS ISSUE, OR MAYBE EVEN AN OFFER OF EXTENDING THE WARRANTY TO ADDRESS MY CONCERNS OVER THE RELIABILITY OF THE 4 C SUSPENSION.
