ENGINE

Engine has excessive oil consumption and sets owners up for expensive testing and repairs, because when the original recall came out, many Volvo s60 with excessive oil consumption were barely out of the allowed mileage range, which sticks the owners with excessive repairs. Volvo should stand behind this problem that effects numerous Volvo s60’s and compensate the repairs.

car has high oil consumption. takes a full oil change every month
May 19, 2024
I currently own a 2013 S60 2.5L T5 sedan (See Vin # referenced in Subject Line) that recently began displaying on the DIC the following alert/error messages: •Low Oil/No Oil Pressure alert My vehicle only has 67,400 miles on the engine and I am the 2nd owner of the vehicle purchasing it with only 19,560 miles or so, approximately 3.2 yrs ago. Due to my distance from home to the nearest authorized local Volvo dealership (Manasquan NJ), when this warning came up on the car, I immediately took it to an authorized ASE local service repair shop. This vehicle’s oil has always been changed within Volvo manufacturer recommended oil change intervals, so I know that was not a potential cause. I did check the oil level, which was low and there has been no visible under the vehicle oil puddles/stains prior to taking it to determine the root cause of the alert. While at the local service repair center, I was alerted by the service manager that for this year model, there is a known manufacturing issue related to defective O-rings and Pistons causing the vehicle to heavily consume oil, potentially leading to engine failure and poses and immediate safety risk to myself and family members as well as the driving public if there was to be an engine failure. I reached out to Volvo USA earlier today to express my dismay and shock that for one I was not notified of this potential safety recall. I was then to my chagrin informed that my vehicle was not involved/eligible for an extended warranty coverage in an earlier settlement that Volvo was involved in, but also to my surprise I came across a Class Action lawsuit filed against Volvo for deceptive practices related concealing prior knowledge of this safety defect related to the O-Rings and Pistons. (See attached docs for settled Lawsuit Action and an earlier issued Quality Bulletin-[XXX]: Issue Date 1-04-23). After reviewing these two documents, it is clear to me that the bulletin deployed as well as the settling of the NJDCA INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

The engine has started to burn excess oil prompting the service engine light to come up way before next oil change. Auto mechanic has to add 5 quarts oil between oil changes on regular basis now telling us the Dealership will need to address the issue. Suggested we replace O rings in engine which is costly repair with no guarantee will solve issue. Could not afford the expensive repair. Recent online research shows this is common issue in the S60 between 50k-100k miles. I Bought this car for daughter as it had every service check required and thinking it was safe reliable car but now risk her running out of oil and engine stop working. 2013 S60 with 90k miles should not have engine problems, especially a Volvo known for high quality. Disappointed that reburbished engine not offered. I am loyal to Volvo having had 2 previous ones but am not impressed with the servicing of this issue.
Jan 13, 2024
The car consumes approx. 0,5 to 1,0 liters of oil per 1000 miles. The problem started around 60,000 miles and has slowly worsened. Volvo admits that there is a problem with the piston rings, and the only fix is an expensive oil consumption test followed by an engine teardown and rebuild

In 2023, the engine of my 2013 Volvo S60 failed completely without prior warning and the vehicle had to be scrapped. Before that, in 2022, I paid $1,500 for a full front-end suspension rebuild due to abnormal wear. These failures were later determined to be consistent with high mileage. I had purchased the vehicle in 2019 believing it had 85,125 miles, but a 2025 VINinspect report based on NMVTIS data revealed the true mileage at sale was over 137,000 — a rollback of more than 50,000 miles. The title is now branded “Not Actual Mileage” by the federal database. This odometer fraud misled me into driving a severely worn vehicle that could have posed a serious safety risk, especially once the engine failed unexpectedly. No warning lights appeared prior to failure, and the engine is no longer available for inspection as the vehicle was sold for scrap. Independent mechanics noted the level of wear was not consistent with the mileage shown at the time of purchase. I have reported this case to NHTSA, the NY DMV, FTC, Attorney General, BBB, and others

I was driving my 2013 Volvo S60 T5 when I felt a sudden, sharp pain in my hand and started bleeding. After safely stopping, I discovered that the chrome trim on the steering wheel had detached from the steering wheel itself and caused a minor cut on my finger. Upon further inspection, I found that the trim is secured to the steering wheel with an adhesive that deteriorates over time, and the trim itself has sharp metal edges.

The "brushed aluminum" interior panels are peeling. The metallic part has separated from the plastic in multiple area. This creates curled up (perpendicular to the original) pieces that are VERY sharp. I have no less than 10 cuts in the last year. The pieces are razor blade sharp. I don't allow my son to come to the front seats anymore when the car is parked.

THE CAR IS BURNING OIL. AND LIKE I HAVE READ IN OTHER COMPLAINTS OF THE VOLVO 2013 S60 OIL HAS TO BE ADDED TOO OFTEN. I JUST HAD REGULAR SERVICE DONE ABOUT 5 WEEKS AGO. ON AUGUST 23, 2019 MY "LOW OIL PRESSURE" LIGHT CAME ON WHILE THE CAR WAS IN MOTION MAKING A TURN. I THOUGHT TO MYSELF "I CAN'T BE LOW ON OIL". ON SATURDAY AUGUST 24TH BEFORE DRIVING, I CHECKED MY OIL AND SURE ENOUGH THERE WAS BARELY ANY OIL ON THE DIP STICK. I CALLED THE VOLVO DEALERSHIP THAT I GO TO ALL THE TIME AND GOT AN APPOINTMENT FOR TUESDAY AUGUST 27TH. I TOLD MY SERVICE MANAGER THAT THIS IS THE THIRD TIME I HAD TO BRING THE CAR IN FOR THE OIL AND THAT THEY HAVE RAN EVERY TEST POSSIBLE. THIS IS RIDICULOUS! I LIKED VOLVO CARS SINCE HIGH SCHOOL AND THIS IS MY SECOND ONE. BUT ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM!

The “Tire Pressure System” warning appeared and has not turned off. New TPMS sensors were installed but the dealership could not get the car to calibrate despite multiple attempts. It has come to my attention that other models of Volvo have this same trouble, and a software update is required.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO (VOLVO CARS RICHMOND 7211 W BROAD ST, RICHMOND, VA 23294), TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE DIAGNOSIS WAS THE VEHICLE HAD SEVERE RUST AND CORROSION WHICH CAUSED THE WIRING TO BE REPLACED. AFTER THE WAS REPAIRED THE VEHICLE STILL EXPERIENCED A FAILURE WITH THE REMOTE ACCESS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT REFERENCED THE FAILURE TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 19V849000 (LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES). THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000.

VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY WHEN I DID NOTICE THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOES NOT LOCK PROPERLY (CAR DOES NOT BEEP WHEN LOCKING AS USUAL). IN ORDER FOR THE DOOR TO LOCK PROPERLY, THE DRIVER'S DOOR NEEDS TO BE CLOSED MUCH HARDER THAN USUAL, TECHNICALLY SLAMMED SHUT. IN ORDER TO OPEN THE DRIVER'S SIDE OF THE DOOR, I NEED TO EITHER USE THE MANUAL KEY OR ENTER THROUGH THE PASSENGER DOOR, PROPPING OPEN THE DOOR THAT WAY. THIS IS CAUSING A SAFETY/SECURITY CONCERN, AS I NEED THE VEHICLE TO BE LOCKED AT ALL TIMES.

THE HEATER/AIR CONDITIONER BLOWER FAN DOES NOT WORK. THIS IS NOT A BLOWN FUSE, YET A POSSIBLE BLOWN RESISTOR AND/OR FAILED BLOWER MOTOR. THIS VEHICLE IS 5 YEARS OLD AND HAS 72K MILES; I CANNOT GET HEAT OR AIR CONDITIONING DUE TO THIS ISSUE; WINDOWS ARE FOGGED OFTEN, WHICH REPRESENTS A HAZARDOUS/SAFETY ISSUE. REPLACEMENT OF THE HEATER BLOWER MOTOR AND/OR RESISTOR REQUIRES THE REMOVAL OF THE DASHBOARD AND INSTRUMENT CLUSTER. THIS SHOULD NOT HAPPEN ON ANY 5 YEAR OLD VEHICLE, MUCH LESS A VOLVO. THE REPAIR IS EITHER VERY COSTLY, AT LEAST $700 TO $1100 OR TIME CONSUMING IF I DO IT MYSELF. THAT IS SEVERAL CAR PAYMENTS WORTH FOR A PART THAT SHOULD NOT HAVE FAILED. I HAVE OWNED TWO OLDER VOLVOS (1972, 1986) AND THIS PART NEVER FAILED--AND IF IT DID, THE ACCESS WAS MUCH EASIER (BEHIND THE GLOVEBOX).

Since we purchased the car in December, water was observed on occasion streaking down the inside of the windshield. The headliner is damp after rain, and is stained from water as a result. Additionally defrost/defog wasn’t working, and my son reported having to pull over and wait for the rain to stop so he could drive with the windows down in order to be able to see the road. INCREDIBLY unsafe/unable to drive in the rain. I recently applied pressure to the inside of the windshield with my fingertips by the A-pillars on both driver and passenger side to test the seal and visually confirmed the windshield was lifting off of the frame, revealing a broken seal along the top and sides of the windshield.

Water was dripping onto my lap while I was driving (distracting), as well as obstructing my vision while it ran down the inside of the glass. Took the car to the volvo dealership and found the windshield was loose. Had to pay to have the windshield replaced for safety reasons.
Aug 30, 2021
For the last year or so I have been experiencing a leak on the passenger side coming from the windshield. It is quite noticeable after heavy rain and even going through the carwash. The water has damaged the interior material right behind the sun visor. As a result, I glued it a few times but of course it is not staying because of the continual rain. I also have to keep a Damp Rid underneath the passenger seat because the car smells damp and musky after it has rained and being closed up. On one occasion, my passenger had been put at risk because they got soaked really bad during a rain storm and became ill. Unfortunately, there was nothing I could do about it and as you can imagine, my passenger was extremely upset.

I WAS TRAVELING BETWEEN 30 - 40 MPH IN MY 2013 VOLVO S60 WHEN I STRUCK AN SUV FROM BEHIND. NONE OF THE AIRBAGS IN MY VEHICLE DEPLOYED, EVEN THOUGH IT WAS A DIRECT REAR END COLLISION. AFTER THE COLLISION MY INSTRUMENT PANEL DISPLAYED THE WARNING MESSAGE 'SRS AIRBAG SERVICE URGENT'. MY VOLVO S60 IS EQUIPPED WITH THE STANDARD CITY SAFETY AUTO BRAKING SYSTEM, WHICH DID NOT ENGAGE AT ANY POINT TO AVOID/REDUCE THE IMPACT OF THE COLLISION. THE AUTO BRAKING SYSTEM DOES NOT WORK ABOVE CERTAIN SPEEDS, I AM AWARE; HOWEVER, I AM CONCERNED THAT MY AIRBAGS WERE NOT PROPERLY WORKING CONSIDERING THAT IT SEEMS MY VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING AT A SPEED ABOVE THE AUTO BRAKING THRESHOLD. THERE WERE NO AIRBAG WARNINGS BEFORE THE COLLISION. FOR REFERENCE, THERE WAS A NEARLY IDENTICAL COLLISION IN THE SAME INTERSECTION JUST MINUTES PRIOR AND THE VEHICLE INVOLVED IN THE COLLISION HAD DEPLOYED AIRBAGS. *TR

WHEN THE FRONT PASSENGER DOES NOT USE SEAT BELT, THE CAR DOES NOT ISSUE ANY AUDIBLE WARNING (EVEN WHEN THE CAR IS IN MOTION, E.G. AT 30 MPH). NOTE THAT, IN CONTRAST, THE AUDIBLE WARNING WILL RING FOR 6 SECONDS IF THE DRIVER DOES NOT USE SEAT BELT. I CALLED THE LOCAL DEALER AND VOLVO NORTH AMERICA AT (201) 768-7300, THE REPLY WAS THAT THIS IS EXACTLY HOW IT IS DESIGNED TO WORK. THE DEALER ALSO CONFIRMED THAT THE SAME BEHAVIOR WAS OBSERVED ON OTHER VOLVO CARS ON HIS SITE. THE RECEPTIONIST AT VOLVO NORTH AMERICA CONFIRMED TO ME THAT "THE AUDIBLE WARNING FOR THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT WAS ELIMINATED" AND IT IS NOT POSSIBLE EVEN FOR THE DEALER TO ENABLE IT. THEN, MY QUESTION IS, WHY DOES THE DESIGN ENGINEERS AT VOLVO THINK IT IS OK IF THE FRONT PASSENGER DOES NOT USE SAFETY BELT AND THERE IS NO NEED TO ISSUE A REMINDER?? IN OTHER CARS (E.G., I TESTED ON MERCEDES BENZ C300 4MATIC 2013 MODEL), WHEN THE CAR IS IN MOTION AND THE FRONT PASSENGER DOES NOT USE SEAT BELT, THE CAR REMINDS WITH A AUDIBLE WARNING. *TR

THE VEHICLE SHIFTS ERRATICALLY IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC WITH FREQUENT SURGES AND JOLTS AT LOW GEARS. THIS ALSO OCCURS AT HIGHER TEMPERATURES (AFTER DRIVING FOR A WHILE ON HOT DAYS) AND DURING STOP AND GO TRAFFIC ON HOT DAYS. TRANSMISSION ENGAGES SLOWLY AFTER A FULL STOP AND OFTEN WITH A JERK, ESPECIALLY FELT WHEN STOPPED AT AN INCLINE. ALL OF THESE JERKS AND JOLTS OCCUR AROUND GEARS 1 OR 2 AND DURING STOPPING OR STARTING FROM STOP.

WHEN COMING TO A STOP, ONCE STOP HAS COMPLETED, WHILE FOOT IS ON THE BRAKE AT RANDOM TIMES THE VEHICLE WE JOLT FORWARDED. THE JOLT WOULD BE IN COMPARISON TO THE FEELING OF BEING REAR ENDED AT A COMPLETE STOP. I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR TO THE LOCAL VOLVO DEALERSHIP AND THEY CHECKED IT AND CAME BACK WITH NOTHING BEING WRONG. ON THE FOURTH RETURN TO THE DEALERSHIP I ASKED IF ANYONE DROVE THE VEHICLE. THE ANSWER WAS NO. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT SPECIALIST ASKED IF HE COULD DRIVE THE VEHICLE HOME FOR THE NIGHT. I SAID YES, BECAUSE THIS PROBLEM HAPPENS RANDOMLY. THE NEXT DAY, THE SERVICE SPECIALIST SAID THAT HE EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM. AGAIN, NOTHING THEY SAID COULD BE DONE BECAUSE NO ERROR CODE APPEARED. THE TRANS JUMPS TOO MUCH, TO BE NORMAL.

I started losing brake pressure rapidly about a month ago. Took it to a shop and they recommended replacing the master cylinder. The repair was completed and the braking improved for about 2 weeks and then I lost all brake pressure. The vehicle was not safe to operate and I had it towed back to the shop once again. Again they suggested replacing the master cylinder. We completed that repair and I had brake pressure for about three days. Then my low brake fluid light came on. As of right now my pedal is squishy and I have to put brake fluid in every 24 hours. There are no external leaks but we can’t figure out what the issue is. It’s become a serious safety hazard. Possibly an internal leak into the brake booster. It’s also a common issue among other Volvo owners of this year and model.

AUTOMATIC BRAKES CAME ON WHEN TURNING OUT OF MY NEIGHBORHOOD ONTO A MAIN ROAD. IT'S WAS 7AM AND THERE WERE NO CARS AROUND ME AT THE TOME OF THE INITIAL INCIDENT. THERE WAS NOTHING NEAR ME BUT EMPTY STREETS. I TURNED BACK INTO MY NEIGHBORHOOD TO FIGURE OUT WHAT HAPPENED AND SAW NOTIFICATION OF AUTOMATIC BRAKING ON MY DASHBOARD. I TURNED MY CAR OFF AND RESTARTED IT TO TRY AND LEAVE MY NEIGHBORHOOD AGAIN BUT THE DANCE THING HAPPENED IN THE EXACT SAME SPOT. STILL NO TRAFFIC OR ANYTHING AROUND TO TRIGGER THAT. VERY DANGEROUS!!!

Car has had regular oil changes and was well below the recommended time for the next change when the engine began knocking in September. I took the car for inspection at a Volvo mechanic repair shop and was told all of the oil was gone and engine is damaged beyond repair. No engine or oil indicator light came on to warn me that the oil was low. I understand the 2011-2012 models were recalled for this issue and apparently the problem continued to the 2013 model. The car has low mileage and I am shocked that it is now effectively totaled. I am now without a vehicle and feel that Volvo should have to correct the situation and that a recall should be issued.

I had a 2008 volvo s60 and now i have a 2013 volvo s60. And the same exact thing happened with both of them. Both cars had more than half a tank of gas and while driving on the freeway they started to stutter and then the car just shut off while i was driving. I was lucky to be close to an exit and i had to let the car role on nuetral till i was safe away from any traffic. If i want close to an exit you can just imagine what would of happened. When i tried to turn the car on it wouldn't start anymore. I have done knowledge on working on cars and new it was a fuel problem. Upon checking i noticed that the fuel rail didn't have any fuel pressure. On my 2008 the problem was the fuel pump module. On my 2013 its a newer car so i don't really know much about it. Only had it for 2 weeks. And now it got towed and is at the dealer where i bought it from to get checked by their mechanic. There must be a problem with s60's to have happened to both s60's I've owend.

I RECENTLY HAD A RECALL ON A VOLVO FOR DOOR LATCHES. WHEN LOOKING AT OTHER RECALLS, I FOUND THAT THE OIL PRESSURE LIGHT ON MY VEHICLE, INDICATING LOW OIL PRESSURE, WAS A RECALL ON A PRIOR YEAR, SAME MAKE AND MODEL. I DID FURTHER RESEARCH AND DISCOVERED THAT THE CAR HAD A POSSIBLE RECALL OF THE WRONG DATE OF MANUFACTURE. I WAS ASSURED BY VOLVO THAT MY VEHICLE WAS NOT AFFECTED; HOWEVER, IT IS HAVING THE SAME ISSUES, WAS THE SAME MAKE AND MODEL, SAYS IT WAS MADE IN THE SAME CITY, AND I HAVE HAD ISSUES WITH THE TITLE ALONG WITH GETTING AN ORIGINAL DATE OF SELL FOR THE VEHICLE. I BOUGHT IT FROM A BUY HERE, PAY HERE PLACE, AND IT HAD AN YELLOW X ON THE INSIDE OF THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR. I THINK IT WAS AFFECTED BY THE PRIOR RECALL AND THAT I CAN NOT GET ALL THE NEEDED RECALLS BECAUSE THE PRIOR MISPRINT OF THE YEAR WAS NEVER CORRECTED BEFORE IT WAS SOLD TO THE DEALER.

CAR IS BURNING OIL. I HAVE TO REPLACE THE OIL EVERY 2-3 MONTHS WITH NO WARNING AS TO WHEN IT IS COMING. THE "CHECK OIL PRESSURE" LIGHT COMES ON, NORMALLY WHEN THE CAR IS IN MOTION (SPECIFICALLY, MAKING A TURN), WHEN THERE IS ALREADY BARELY ANY OIL IN THE CAR LEAVING ME VERY LITTLE TIME TO GET IT TO A SHOP TO REPLACE THE OIL. A COUPLE OF DAYS LATER (IF NOT THAT SAME DAY), THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WILL ALSO COME ON. I WENT DIRECTLY TO VOLVO SOUTH SHORE FOR THEM TO DO AN OIL CHANGE ON JUNE 21, 2019 AND MY "OIL PRESSURE" LIGHT FLASHED ON AUGUST 16,2019. BY AUGUST 23, MY "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT CAME ON SO I TOOK IT TO THE NEAREST SHOP. THEY RAN THE DIAGNOSTICS REPORT AND TOLD ME THE LIGHT CAME ON BECAUSE THERE WASNT A DROP OF OIL IN THE CAR. ANYTIME I TAKE IT INTO VOLVO TO GET CHECKED, THEY SAY THEY CANNOT DO ANYTHING UNLESS THE "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT IS CURRENTLY ON BUT ITS NOT LIKE I CAN BRING IT TO THEM WHEN IT DOES BECAUSE ITS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE TO THEM/WAIT A FEW DAYS FOR AN APPOINTMENT! BY THAT TIME, I CAN FEEL THE CAR GIVING OUT AND ITS NOT LIKE I CAN TAKE IT ANOTHER 20 MILES TO SEE THEM! THE FACT THAT THIS ISSUE HAS NOT BEEN PROPERLY ADDRESSED IS ASTOUNDING. ITS NOT SAFE AND IT SHOULD NOT BE THE INDIVIDUAL'S RESPONSIBILITY TO REPLACE AN ENGINE THIS SOON!

I am submitting this report to formally document a severe safety-related failure involving my 2013 Volvo S60, VIN # [XXX] . This vehicle is part of the Volvo brand, widely recognized and marketed as among the safest in the world. Incident Summary: On [XXX], at approximately [XXX] in Norwalk, Connecticut, the vehicle experienced a catastrophic mechanical failure while in operation. The auxiliary (serpentine) belt suddenly failed, shredded itself, and wrapped around the timing pulley. Debris from the failed belt entered the timing belt housing — a supposedly sealed and protected compartment — causing the timing belt to jump. This resulted in an immediate loss of engine power while driving, placing me in a highly vulnerable position. Fortunately, I was not on a multi-lane highway or in fast-moving traffic. Had I been traveling on a busier route, the sudden loss of power could have led to a serious crash and potential injury. This failure represented a genuine threat to my safety. Further inspection revealed that: The lower crankshaft sprocket had skipped three teeth due to the intrusion of the auxiliary belt. The timing belt, although not broken, was off track. A new timing belt was installed in an attempt to restart the engine. The engine would crank but failed to start. A compression test revealed zero compression in all cylinders. The valve train was severely damaged (bent valves), and the engine sustained internal mechanical failure beyond repair. Conclusion and Context: This is not an isolated incident. Upon further research, I discovered that this failure — specifically the auxiliary belt disintegrating and compromising the timing belt system — is a known and well-documented problem in vehicles equipped with the B5254T12 Turbo engine. Volvo has been previously alerted to similar cases before. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

The default is for the feature be on, so turning off is required every time the car is turned on.

I was driving down the freeway and the driverside door swung open while it was locked. This is after the door handle recall repair was performed. Prior to the recall repair, my door never came open like that while drving. This is dangerous because I could have fallen out, or a car could have hit my door! Also, the windshield leaks on the inside and has been doing that for a long while. Volvo service said it does not leak. It does leak when raining or ice/snow melt. This is dangerous because windshield wipers do not work on the interior part of the window to wipe away water so the driver can see.

EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION - BURNING OR CONSUMING AT LEAST 5 QUARTS OF OIL EVERY 2K-3K MILES, BETWEEN OIL CHANGES. OUR ONLY NOTICE IS WHEN OIL IS BELOW 5-QUART RANGE, WHEN WE RECEIVE A DASH WARNING NOTING TO STOP ENGINE. CAR HOLDS 7.25 QUARTS OF SYNTHETIC OIL. WELL KNOW DOCUMENTED THROUGHOUT THE WEB AND KNOWN TO VOLVO MECHANICS, ALTHOUGH MORE RECOGNIZED WITH 2011-2012 S60. STOP ENGINE NOTICE RECEIVED WHEN STARTING CAR. FORTUNATELY ABLE TO UBER TO AUTO SUPPLY AND ADD 5QUARTS TO DRIVE HOME. OCCURRED ON TWO OCCASIONS, WHEREIN THE SECOND INSTANCE WE RESEARCHED, REACHED OUT TO VOLVO MECHANICS AND IN THE PROCESS OF CONTACTING DEALER AND VOLVO FOR FOLLOW-UP. IT APPEARS THAT SEVERAL INSTANCES HAVE RESULTED IN ENGINE FAILURE AND/OR $5K OR MORE IN PERSONAL COST TO FIX PISTON/VALUE ISSUE OR REPLACE ENGINE.

WITH LESS THAN 50,000 MILES ON IT, MY S60 JUST COMPLETELY STOPPED WORKING ON MY WAY TO WORK. WHILE PULLING OUT OF MY DEVELOPMENT, THE ENTIRE ENGINE, POWER STEERING - EVERYTHING SHUT DOWN. I HAD TO COAST INTO A TURNING LANE TO PUT ON MY FLASHERS. I HAD NOT GONE MORE THAN 3 MINUTES FROM MY HOUSE. AFTER VOLVO HAD IT FOR A FEW DAYS THEY TOLD ME THAT THE ALTERNATOR BELT HAD JUMPED OFF, HITTING THE ALTERNATOR, FRAYING THE BELT. THIS THEN RESULTED IN THE BELT WRAPPING AROUND ANOTHER PART OF THE ENGINE IMPACTING THE DRIVE BELT. THIS RESULTED IN DAMAGE TO THE DRIVE BELT, ALTERNATOR, 1/3 OF MY ENGINE AND MY CYLINDER BLOCK. VOLVO IS BLAMING THIS ON A FAULTY BELT TENSIONER, YET THEY ARE MAKING ME PAY FOR PART OF THE REPAIR WHICH IS A TOTAL COST OF $6,000. THIS IS CLEARLY A DEFECTIVE PART - EITHER IT WAS INSTALLED INCORRECTLY OR IT WAS NOT PROPERLY BUILT AS A BELT DOES NOT JUST "JUMP". I WAS LUCKY THAT I HAD NOT YET GOTTEN ONTO THE HIGHWAY OR I WOULD HAVE BEEN INJURED ALONG WITH OTHER PEOPLE IF NOT WORSE. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN AND VOLVO DOES NOT SEEM TO WANT TO ADMIT COMPLETE FAILURE HERE. THIS CAR HAS BEEN SERVICED REGULARLY AND AT THE SAME DEALERSHIP.

ON FEB. 3RD, I WAS PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE IN FRONT OF A STORE WHEN MY S60 R TYPE VOLVO BEGAN TO ACCELERATE ON ITS OWN AND REACHED VERY HIGH RPM. MY FOOT WAS NOT EVEN ON THE ACCELERATOR AS THE CAR NORMALLY IDLES FAST ENOUGH TO PERFORM PARKING MANEUVERS. I HIT THE BRAKE BUT THE CAR CONTINUED TO MOVE. IT JUMPED THE SIDEWALK; HIT THE BUILDING AND PROCEEDED TO DIG A HOLE IN THE FLOWERBED AT THE STORE'S FRONT. THIS ALL HAPPENED IN THE LENGTH OF A PARKING SPACE. I CAN'T REMEMBER WHETHER I SHUT THE IGNITION OFF OR OF THE ENGINE STOPPED ON ITS OWN SHORTLY AFTER THE COLLISION. NEITHER THE AIRBAGS NOR THE PEDESTRIAN AVOIDANCE BRAKING SYSTEM DEPLOYED. I HIT THE BUILDING SO HARD THAT THE BRICK CRACKED INSIDE AND OUT OF THE STRUCTURE. THE DOOR IS STILL INOPERABLE.

A ROCK SLIDE LEFT SEVERAL ROCKS ON THE HIGHWAY. I HIT ONE OF THEM AND CRACKED A RIM. SINCE THE VOLVO S60 DOES NOT COME WITH A SPARE TIRE, I WAS LEFT STRANDED IN A CANYON ROAD IN THE RAIN WITH A DISABLED VEHICLE. MINIMAL CELL PHONE RECEPTION MADE CALLING FOR HELP VERY DIFFICULT. VOLVO ASSUMES THAT CALLING THEIR ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE (IF YOU CAN) AND WAITING FOR A TOW TRUCK IS EQUIVALENT TO CARRYING A SPARE TIRE. IT CLEARLY IS NOT AND CAN LEAVE DRIVER'S HELPLESS WHEN A SIMPLE SPARE TIRE WOULD HAVE SOLVED THE PROBLEM. ALTHOUGH PURCHASING A SPARE TIRE IS AN OPTION, IT WOULD CONSUME TRUCK SPACE THAT IS NECESSARY FOR MY SON'S STROLLER. I CAN ONLY CARRY THE STROLLER OR THE SPARE BUT NOT BOTH.. THE CAR SHOULD BE DESIGNED TO CARRY A SPARE TIRE IF NECESSARY. UPDATED 10/9/15 *LN UPDATED 12/21/2015*JS

NOTE AHORA SE HAN MUDADO AL 755 NW 20 ST MIAMI FL 33127 UNDER NAME GOLDEN GLADE COLLISION CENTER, INSURANCE KNOWS ABOUT AIR BAG IT DOES NOT WORKING PROPERLY,, THEY KNOW ABOUT FRAUD,, INVESTIGATOR KNOWS ABOUT SAFETY PARTS,, INSURANCE PAY THEM WITH FAKE PAPERS,, INSURANCE KNOWS ABOUT STOLEN MONEY THROUGH THE MY ACCIDENT,, INSURANCE, AGRICULTURE GOVERNMENT KNOWS ABOUT UNSAFETY CAR,, THE AUTO SHOP, AAA OF DADE COUNTY IN MIAMI DID ONLY VERY SUPERFICIAL REPAIR WORK ON MY CAR, ALTHOUGH THEY COLLECTED COMPENSATION FROM THE INSURANCE COMPANY. THEY MENTION HAVING REPAIRED MY SEAT BELT SYSTEM, AIR BAGS, AND OTHER MECHANICAL ITEMS, AS WELL AS OUTER BODY PARTS, BUT IT IS OBVIOUS THAT THESE ITEMS HAVE NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THIS WAS CONFIRMED BY VOLVO, MIAMI & MELBOURNE (SEE ATTACHMENT 2 & 3), AND BY J&J IN PALM COAST (SEE ATTACHMENT 4). MORE IMPORTANTLY, NOT ONLY DID THEY DO IMPROPER AND INCOMPLETE REPAIR WORK, BUT THERE IS INDICATION THAT THEY THEMSELVES CAUSED ADDITIONAL DAMAGES TO MY CAR, E. G. THERE APPEAR SCRATCHES, THE REAR BUMPER IS LOOSE, THE ORIGINAL FRONT TIRES WERE REMOVED AND REPLACED WITH TIRES SO WORN THAT IT PUT MY SONS LIFE AND MINE IN GRAVE DANGER! I HAVE SINCE REPLACED THEM BY NEW ONES. FROM WHAT I HAVE BEEN TOLD AT VOLVO, MY CAR HAS SUFFERED A LOSS IN VALUE OWING TO CREATED DAMAGES EQUAL TO AT LEAST $18,000! ON 9/24/14, AAA OF DADE COUNTY PREPARED AN AUTHORIZATION FORM FOR THE PURPOSE OF COLLECTING MONEY FROM THE INSURANCE COMPANY. THIS REPORT STATES THAT ALL DAMAGES HAVE BEEN SATISFACTORILY REPAIRED ON THAT SAME DATE. PLEASE NOTE, HOWEVER, THAT THE PHOTOS, CLEARLY SHOWING THE DAMAGES TO THE CAR, WERE TAKEN BY THE APPRAISER ON 9/26/2014!). IT THUS APPEARS THAT THIS FORM WAS USED FOR THE SOLE PURPOSE OF COLLECTING MONEY, AND NOT, AS STATED, CONFIRMING REPAIR OF THE DAMAGES. PLEASE FEEL FREE TO CONTACT ME SHOULD YOU NEED ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

THE TIRE AND LOADING INFORMATION LABEL ON MY CAR HAS 4 ERRORS. 1. LOADING: THE INSTALLED LABEL SPECIFIES A WEIGHT LIMIT OF 1200 LBS. THE CORRECT WEIGHT LIMIT FOR MY CAR IS 1025 LBS. 2. FRONT TIRE SIZE: THE INSTALLED LABEL SAYS MY CAR HAS 215/50R17 FRONT TIRES. THE CAR HAS 235/45R17 TIRES. VOLVO CARS OF NORTH AMERICA CONFIRMED THAT 235/45R17 TIRES WERE INSTALLED AT THE FACTORY. 3. FRONT TIRE PRESSURE: THE INSTALLED LABEL SPECIFIES 38PSI, BUT THE CORRECT VALUE IS 36PSI. 4. REAR TIRE SIZE: SAME ERROR AS FRONT TIRE SIZE. 5. REAR TIRE PRESSURE: SAME ERROR AS FRONT TIRE PRESSURE. *TR

NO SPARE TIRES IN NEW CARS PUTS US CONSUMERS IN DANGER YOU SHOULD BE AS DEEPLY CONCERNED, AS I AM, OF THE GROWING TREND AMONG CAR MANUFACTURERS TO LEAVE OUT SPARE TIRES. IN FACT THEY DON'T EVEN HAVE SPACE TO CARRY THEM. *TR DISCOUNTING THE QUESTIONABLE BENEFIT TO THEIR BOTTOM LINE THIS IS A TREND THAT PUTS US DRIVERS IN CONSIDERABLE DANGER. IT ALSO LEAVES THE US CONSUMER AT THE MERCY OF TOW TRUCK OPERATORS AND PRICE GOUGING BY THE DEALERS WHERE THE CAR IS TOWED. INSTEAD OF A SPARE THEY PROVIDE A FORM OF ?FIX-A-FLAT? THAT PUMPS A SEALANT AND AIR INTO THE PUNCTURED TIRE. THIS WILL ONLY WORK WITH TIRES WITH A SMALL PUNCTURE IN THE TREAD NOT ON LARGER HOLES OR SIDEWALL DAMAGE. IT ALSO CAUSES IRREPARABLE DAMAGE TO POSSIBLY SALVAGEABLE TIRE. THE ONLY OTHER OPTION IS TO CALL AND WAIT FOR EMERGENCY HELP, WHICH COULD TAKE HOURS, DAYS OR BE NON-EXISTENT IN MANY AREAS. YOU CAN EASILY IMAGINE MANY SCENARIOS WHERE THE LACK OF A SPARE TIRE, AND WAITING HOURS FOR A TOW, COULD BE MORE THAN A BIG INCONVENIENCE, BUT A THREAT TO LIFE. A FLAT TIRE ON A LONG DESERTED STRETCH OF ROAD LATE AT NIGHT. A FLAT IN A BAD SECTION OF THE CITY OR A SECTION WHERE ROAD DEBRIS CAUSES MULTIPLE VEHICLES TO GET FLATS AT THE SAME TIME OVERWHELMING EMERGENCY SERVICES. FOR THE SAFETY OF US DRIVERS SPARE TIRES MUST BE SUPPLIED AS STANDARD EQUIPMENT ON ALL CARS SOLD IN THE UNITED STATES.

WHEN PRESSING THE ACCELERATOR TO ENTER TRAFFIC THERE WAS A VERY SIGNIFICANT HESITATION FOLLOWED BY A SUDDEN LURCH WHICH ALMOST LEAD TO A T-BONE ACCIDENT. THIS WAS THE THIRD TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED IN THE LAST TWO WEEKS. VOLVO FOUND A SERVICE BULLETIN FOR 6 CYLINDER ENGINE AND INSTALLED THE SOFTWARE UPGRADE. IT IS TOO EARLY TO TELL IF IT WORKED. *TR
