The windshield cracked without impact or any other obvious means of damage. I have had 2 other windshields crack in the same manner, the first being December 2022, second March 2024, and now April 2025. All incidents have starts from the bottom on the windshield on the passenger side, and spreading towards the roof. The vehicle was not moving at the time of the crack, it was noticed getting in the vehicle of all incidents

We went to put groceries in our trunk and the rear driver side window shattered and my 2 year old was in the car. Glass got inside the car where his car seat was, and the entire window shattered on the ground. There was nothing touching the window to make the window shatter when I shut the trunk

Rear view mirror fell off while driving down the hwy. when the mirror detached from the front windshield it sent small shards of class on to me and my wife. This startled me and caused me to jerk the wheel. I corrected the vehicle and safely pulled to the side of the road. After inspecting what happened I realized the the glass broke and the mirror had a chuck of glass still attached to it. The damage was only on the inside potion of the glass and there is no damage to the outside. I called Subaru of America and the representative side it was covered under warranty. Once I called the service shop they informed me that I needed a claim number and Subaru does not warranty windshields. I called back and after 35 minutes the representative said I would have to wait for another representative to call back with further information.

My 2019 Subaru Crosstrek has a little over 19000 miles on it, and my windshield has cracked for the third time. The first time was after a rock strike at the edge of my windshield; the vehicle did not make it the couple miles home before it had split several inches. The second and third times seem spontaneous. Both cracks originated from the bottom of the glass on the passenger's side, and there were no known rock strikes either instance. Both instances, the windshield cracked several inches while the vehicle was parked. In the third instance, the vehicle had only been sitting an hour between use, and a six inch crack appeared within that time. None of the three windshields have sustained any other damage beyond the cracks. Subaru has recently undergone lawsuits regarding this issue with many of their vehicles over the last several years. This is a known problem. Cracks to the windshield reduce the efficacy of the safety features in the event of an accident and can impair a driver's visibility. With damage this often and the cost of a new windshield and sensor recalibration, I am sure many drivers are waiting until their windshield has completely cracked until replacement.

A crack on the windshield appeared for no apparent reason . The crack started on the passenger side right below the windshield wiper. At this time, the vehicle has not been inspected by insurance or police. Besides the financial burden this may cause it has not caused any physical harm to myself or others. However, it is a known issue with Subarus in the past and should be addressed.

My vehicle would struggle with starting intermittently over the past 2 years. Last week It became a consistent issue each time I would start it. Today my car would not crank and I tried several times over the span of 3 hours. What I experienced previously when starting my vehicle is it would initiate starting, I would hear a mechanical whirring, the car would stop then start again and the engine would turn over a couple of times and eventually start up. Today when trying to start the car, I hear a mechanical whirring and several notifications appear on my dashboard including the following: Check Engine, EyeSight Off Check Manual, Check Owner Manual, RAB Disabled. Thankfully I was not stranded when my car wouldn't start again, but that is a real risk because I travel to the mountains often where there is no cell reception. I looked online for similar issues and have discovered several instances of people with 2018 and 2019 subaru crosstreks (and other models) have had the same issue. Subaru has issued a Technical Service Bulletin (07-198-21), but this is a safety issue which they should address. My coworker has the same car and it has had work done for the same issue. My neighbor has a 2019 ascent which has an auto Start/Stop where it wasn't able to restart and was stuck in traffic creating a hazard.

Sunroof exploded while driving. No temperature extremes, no warning lights prior to event. It sounded like my car was shot and tempered glass fell into vehicle. Insurance claim was filed and approved for replacement of the sunroof; dealership replaced the part.

The main information panel which displays navigation information under Carplay goes blank for approximately 5 seconds every time the user adjusts the car volume. This appears to be by design. The "feature" creates an unsafe driving situation by forcing the driver's attention to linger on the main panel waiting for navigational or other information, creating an unsafe situation which could cause an accident. In addition, though less threatening, the vehicle's audio volume turns on when the car is started, regardless of whether it was last left off or on. The unexpected volume sound interferes with a driver's initial planning and focus in the vehicle unnecessarily. This unfortunate "feature" is less threatening than the screen blanking resulting from volume adjustment because it occurs before the car begins moving. The volume control screen blanking creates a hazard because it interferes with the driver's access to important information while the vehicle is in motion, tempting the driver to take their eyes off the road waiting for the main screen to once again resume normal operation.

Back rear window shattered on its own, but it shattered completely instead of like the windshield with it didn’t stay together it was shattered into 1 million pieces. All I did was close my front door.

On July 13,2022, while easing into a parking slot with foot on the pedal brake, with final stop and reaching to shift gear into parking mode, my 2019 Crosstrek engine suddenly accelerated and made the car surge forward. My brake pedal was on the floor with no response and the car continued to shoot pass the curb and sidewalk onto a vegetation embankment, heading towards the building and its glass door. I was terrified as the car did not respond to braking and tried to shift into neutral but the shift gear was struggling, until the car got stopped by the vegetation bank and continued to rev loudly, but then allowed me to shift into neutral. There was no warning of any sort when the phenomenon took place. When the tow truck arrived, tow personnel turned on the engine and tried the brakes pedal which went straight to the floor, with no pressure response. What was terrifying was the car engine suddenly accelerated forward and would not stop until the car was stopped by the dirt and vegetation. Without the vegetation, my car would have plowed into the building and the tall glass windows. The front of my car was damaged. It is now in a body shop. My car was bought brand new, has been serviced regularly by the dealership that I ordered it from. The last maintenance was March 2022, for a 24k service, with all in good operation. It currently has 25K miles. In the aftermath, I researched the web for info, and I found out that there is a current class action suit against Subaru for this type of sudden acceleration on several models of Subaru. This sudden acceleration is when cars are ready to park, with brake pedal applied, yet cars just accelerate. This is a life endangering car malfunction for drivers and other nearby drivers. Please help keep us all safe. Thank you for reviewing my report.

Battery drains rapidly and completely, sometimes overnight. Five times in less than one year. After a full charge only lasts a few days. Battery replaced but still happens. Others tell me it is a parasitic drain caused by "DCM" and/or faulty Starlink software. Dealership cannot seem to fix this after repeated attempts.
Jan 31, 2024
The digital communication module (DCM) on this Crosstrek is faulty and is leading to parasitic drain on the car battery. This defect is consistent with other Subaru models such as the Outback. However, this specific model and year was not included in the class action suit and order but the issues are similar.

Intermittent Power Steering Malfunction while driving causing car to violently "self-steer". Vehicle is NOT equipped with adaptive cruise control or lane assist features. Loss of control while driving become intermittently high risk having to clutch the steering wheel and counteract undesired vehicle self-steering forces to avoid hitting other cars on the road. No other vehicles or other property were damaged during discovery of EPS malfunction. Malfunction occurs at highway speeds and also local town speeds. There are no check engine lights present on vehicles OBD system. Vehicle is only ever serviced at the same dealership where originally purchased. Upon occurrences of malfunction, vehicle was taken to dealership for diagnostic testing. The dealership's determination is that there is an electrical fault inside the Electronic Power Steering Gearbox. The dealer was able to duplicate the electrical malfunction while test driving. Vehicle currently remains at dealership indefinitely until operating hazard remedied. Original OEM malfunctioning EPS gear box still installed on vehicle as of 12/16/2024 and is available for requested inspection. Since current existing recalls for the EPS gearbox were not applied to this vehicle, Customer is forced to pay out of pocket ($1400 part plus $600 labor) to fix. Requesting NHTSA to confiscate malfunctioning part for examination and comparison to known OEM defects involved with other safety recalls. Replacement parts currently on order by dealer as of 12/16/2024. Reference existing Subaru recall # (WUC-88). Reference existing NHTSA # (19V065000). Replacement OEM part # (34110FL133 2019 Subaru Crosstrek Steering Gear). Existing OEM part number currently on vehicle is unknown. The contact owns a 2019 Subaru Crosstrek. The contact stated while driving 75 MPH, the power steering assist failed to operate as the steering wheel seized with the power steering warning light illuminated. Due to the failure, the vehicle swerved to the left before the contact was able to pull over to the shoulder of the highway. The contact restarted the vehicle and the power steering assist returned before the failure recurred upon exiting the highway. Due to the failure, the vehicle was towed to a dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the power steering had failed and needed to be repaired. The contact was informed that the VIN was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V065000 (Steering). The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was provided a case number. The vehicle was not repaired and remained in the dealer possession. The failure mileage was approximately 36,000.

WHEN LANE DEPARTURE SYSTEM IS ACTIVATED,STEERING GETS LOOSE.WHEELS MAY NOT RESPOND TO STEERING WHEEL FOR 1 SECOND.SUBARU SAYS THIS IS NORMAL.I STOPPED USING THE SYSTEM AFTER DRIFTING OFF A 2 LANE COUNTRY ROAD AT 50 M.P.H. I HAVE THIS SYSTEM IN MY TOYOTA,IT DOES NOT NEGATIVELY EFFECT STEERING WHEEL CONTROL.

WHEN DRIVING, ESPECIALLY AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, THE STEERING WILL UNEXPECTEDLY PUSH THE CAR ACROSS THE LANE, SOMETIMES HARSHLY, ESPECIALLY AROUND CURVES. THIS IS MORE THAN A SIMPLE NUDGE FOR LANE ASSIST, IT SCARES THE HECK OUT OF YOU AS YOU FIGHT THE STEERING WHEEL TO MAINTAIN CONTROL. AT LEAST ON OUR CAR IT'S ENOUGH TO CAUSE AN ACCIDENT! THE CAR HAS BEEN IN TO SUBARU THREE TIMES TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM, WITHOUT SUCCESS. AFTER INFORMING SUBARU OF AMERICA AND OPENING A FORMAL COMPLAINT (CASE #148267253025) THEY DISMISS THIS AS THE EYE SIGHT/LANE ASSIST WORKING, AND SAY THE REMEDY IS TO TURN THIS SAFETY FEATURE OFF...WHICH TO US IS RIDICULOUS AND NOT WHY WE PURCHASED THIS CAR. AS WE HAVE INFORMED SUBARU THE CAR SITS IN OUR GARAGE AS WE ARE SIMPLY TOO AFRAID TO DRIVE IT. OUR INITIAL COMPLAINT WAS IN JULY, AFTER OUR FIRST ROAD TRIP,AND THE PROBLEM RECURS IRREGULARLY AND WITHOUT WARNING. THE CAR NOW HAS 5725 MILES ON THE ODOMETER.

Battery continually does not hold charge over any time longer than a few days parked. Even after long drive from Wisconsin to Ohio, car sitting for 6 days in cool weather (never under 40 degrees) caused dead battery. Battery has been replaced by Subaru dealer 3 times previously, each time dealer said they could not detect a problem. In winter, battery is dead each night, even with normal daily use each day.

The car started shaking and shuddering at 40 mph on a straight road and I had several losses of motive power, with sluggish acceleration of a busy road. All dashboard lights began to turn on. The Oil Temp light was flashing, indicating an powertrain issue. After slowly driving it to a Subaru dealership, I was told that the CVT needed to be replaced. This model year also had a loss of motive power when cylinder 4 short circuited (after full replacement due to a recall). These are two examples of loss of motive power at high speeds on a single vehicle which in my opinion constitute a severe safety issue

PCV problems and the dealership saying they fixed and completed this recall and have not done so and now CVT problems saying there’s no parts to fix it and have to re do the whole valve system Starter with thinking it was a wheel bar ring problem To trying to figure out if it was a pcv with the engine or cvt with the transmission These are major safety problem that should not be happening

The contact called on behalf of her husband who owns a 2019 Subaru Crosstrek. The contact's husband stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, a cracking sound was coming from the center-right of the vehicle. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be repaired. The contact referenced an unknown NHTSA Campaign Number relating to the transmission as possibly being related to the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage 74,000.

Vehicle transmission failed while moving up a hill, vehicle coasted back down hill into intersection. Had to be physically moved off the road. Subaru of America reimbursed $3k towards cost of transmission, leaving customer with approximately $5k repair.

This 2019 Crosstrek dangerously malfunctioned. When driving at 75 MPH on the highway it went into in neutral, then it would not go in reverse, and in park it revved to 75 MPH, ultimately it would not start. Based on many codes the car was indicating, the Subaru mechanic tried to replace a cable that communicates the computer to the transmission (turbine?), it did not solve the problem. It has been waiting on a new transmission for four weeks with no ETA. Subaru dealer indicates the new transmission will have a 100,000-mile warranty. It appears that rather than fix this known dangerous defective transmission issue for good, there are many reports when you research online, they simply up the warranty. Someone is going to get hurt if they haven't already. Thank you for your time.

MY FIRST SUBARU. ON THE DRIVE HOME FROM THE DEALERSHIP, A ROCK CRACKED THE WINDSHEILD. LESS THAN A WEEK LATER, WHILE TRAVELING ON A FREEWAY FOR JUST A FEW MINUTES, ANOTHER ROCK HIT THE WINDSHIELD AND CAUSED A MAJOR CRACK/ LONG LINE ACROSS ON ANOTHER PART OF THE WINDOW. SO UNEXPECTED, UNUSUAL AND I HOPE NOT PREDICTIVE OF CONSISTENT GLASS ISSUES. THE BIGGER ISSUE IS THAT UPON ACCELERATION, THE ACCELERATION OFTEN, BRIEFLY, LOSES POWER. LIKE SOMETHING IS IMPEDING THE FUEL MOMENTARILY. I'VE BECOME ACCUSTOMED TO IT BUT IT TOOK SOME GETTING USED TO. I WORRY THAT IT IS THE SIGN OF A MAJOR DEFECT/ISSUE. THE CAR IS THE CURRENT MODEL YEAR, THOUGH, I DID PURCHASE IT WITH 6,000 MILES ON IT. I'VE WONDERED IF THESE ISSUES ARE WHAT CAUSED THE PREVIOUS OWNER TO TRADE IT IN WITHIN MONTHS OF BUYING IT NEW.

HI. I PURCHASE MY 2019 SUBARU CROSSTREK IN OCTOBER OF 18 BECAUSE I DECIDED TO SUCK IT UP AND HAVE A PAYMENT TO ENSURE I HAD A SAFE VEHICLE FOR MYSELF AND FOR MY SON. SINCE WE ALWAYS PURCHASE SUBARUS THROUGH MY WORK, I WENT THAT ROUTE BECAUSE I'VE BEEN VERY PLEASED WITH THEM ESPECIALLY WITH SAFETY. IN MAY OF 2000 19, I WAS DRIVING TO HARRISBURG FOR WORK AND I HAD MY SON WITH ME AND A WHOLE EGG THAT WAS PRESENTING AT THE CONFERENCE WE WERE HEADED TO. ON THE WAY THERE, ON 22 EAST WHERE THERE WAS A LOT OF CONSTRUCTION BUT A HIGHWAY, I WENT TO GO AROUND A TRUCK WHERE I ACCELERATED AND WENT TO GO INTO THE SLOWER LANE ONCE I PASSED HIM BUT ALL THE SUDDEN, I LOST COMPLETE POWER AND MY CAR SHUT OFF!!! I HURRIED UP AND GOT IT BACK ON AND SOMEHOW THE TRUCK THAT I JUST PASSED WAS ABLE TO MANEUVER BUT IT WAS SUPER SCARY. SADLY, THIS HAPPENED TWO MORE TIMES ON THE STRIP WHERE MY CAR JUST SHUT OFF SO I JUST STAYED IN THE SLOW LANE AND PRAYED WHILE I WAS IN ONE LANE BECAUSE I CALLED SUBARU AND THEY TOLD ME THAT.. I'M JUST RECALLING ALL THIS NOW BECAUSE I GOT THE RECALL IN THE MAIL. I HAD CALLED SUBARU THE WEEK BEFORE I WENT ON THIS TRIP AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY THOUGHT IT WAS A FEW IGNITION THING. AND THAT I SHOULD GET GAS AND SEE IF ALL THE LIGHTS TURNED OFF BECAUSE ALL THE LIGHTS AND TURN ON AFTER THE FIRST TIME IT IS SHUT OFF. LONG STORY SHORT, THEY KEPT IT FOR ABOUT A THOUSAND MILES TO TEST IT OUT BECAUSE I WAS ADAMANT THAT I DIDN'T WANT IT BACK UNTIL IT WAS SAFE SO THEY REPLACE THE TIRE SENSOR WHICH I HAD KNOWN FOR MY LAST VEHICLE WOULD NOT CAUSE THE CAR TO SHUT OFF BUT THEY ASSURED ME THIS WOULD SOLVE THE PROBLEM. I HAVEN'T HAD ANY PROBLEMS SINCE EXCEPT FOR THE CONTINUED ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS THAT I HAVE INSIDE THE CAR AND WHERE THE CAR RUNS AT NIGHT EVEN AFTER ITS SHUT OFF.

While driving on the freeway at approximately 60 MPH, the sunroof on my 2019 Subaru Crosstrek suddenly exploded with a very loud pop. This occurred on a sunny, warm day at around 11:30 a.m., following a somewhat cold night. Both the sunroof and the interior sliding cover were fully closed at the time of the incident. After the explosion, shattered glass rained down onto the closed sliding cover. If the sliding cover had been open, glass could have fallen directly onto me, posing a risk of injury, such as glass entering my eyes, and potentially creating a dangerous situation while driving. The sunroof was inspected and replaced by my local Subaru dealership. I was responsible for covering the parts and labor costs. This was the first time this issue occurred with my vehicle, but I have read similar reports online from other Subaru Crosstrek owners. There were no prior warnings, such as unusual noises or visual signs of cracking, before the failure. While the sunroof has been repaired, I have photos and video available for review upon request.

I SEE THIS AS A POTENTIAL SAFETY PROBLEM AND NOT AN IMMEDIATE SAFETY PROBLEM. IT INVOLVES A 2019 SUBARU CROSSTREK. ON 3 DIFFERENT OCCASIONS, WEEKS OR MONTHS APART, THE HOOD HAS POPPED UP 1 INCH AND HAS BEEN STOPPED BY THE SAFETY HOOK. I NOTICE THIS ONLY WHEN I REACH HIGHWAY SPEEDS AND THE FRONT HOOD "FLUTTERS" UP AND DOWN. THERE IS NO INDICATION, FROM INSIDE THE CAR, THAT THE HOOD HAS PARTIALLY RELEASED AT SPEEDS UNDER 50 MPH. ON NONE OF THESE 3 OCCASIONS, HAS THE HOOD RELEASE LEVER, NEAR THE DRIVERS LEFT LEG, BEEN ACTIVATED, PULLED OR BUMPED. I'VE ONLY INTENTIONALLY OPENED THE HOOD ONCE OR TWICE -- AND THE PROCESS SEEMS NORMAL. THIS HOOD RELEASE PROBLEM HAS NEVER RESULTED IN LOSS OF FORWARD VISION OR WITH THE HOOD IN A FULLY "UP" POSITION. THE CAR IS 7 MONTHS OLD WITH ABOUT 7,500 MILES ON IT; SO THIS IS HAPPENING ROUGHLY EVERY 2 MONTHS. I RARELY DRIVE ON DIRT OR BUMPY ROADS. IT'S IMPOSSIBLE TO KNOW EXACTLY WHEN THE HOOD RELEASE ACTUALLY OCCURS WITHOUT PULLING UPWARD ON THE HOOD REGULARLY OR DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. THERE HAS BEEN NO FRONT END DAMAGE OR TRAUMA.

Subaru owners have reported experiencing premature parasitic battery drain in vehicles equipped with Starlink in-vehicle technology. The defect presents itself when the equipped data communications module (DCM) attempts to communicate with 3G cellular networks. As 3G networks within the U.S. are no longer functioning, the call will continuously fail even after the vehicle has been turned off, draining the battery and resulting in a no-start safety risk for drivers. According to those familiar with the issue, the only solution to the battery drain defect is to remove the DCM fuse, thus disabling vital safety features such as hands-free calling. This issue is happening to me specifically, as I have had to jump my car multiple times within a week long period if in a bad cell range area. I have brought this into the dealership multiple times, under warranty, and presented this to them. They refuse to fix, even though multiple online threads and lawsuits point to this issue being known.

Anti-lockout mechanism failed to prevent telematics-initiated lockout. 1) Driver placed live child , keys, phone into car 2) Driver closed door with keys inside. The car normally refuses to lock under these conditions, detecting key inside, and preventing a hazard to infant who is unable to unlock the car. 3) Remote telematics command issued from 3rd party inadvertently locks car remotely. Driver has now lost control of the car lock state, and is locked out with child inside. Since it's a sunny day, car internal temperature increases, causing threat to child. 4) Emergency efforts to reach 3rd party to unlock the car to free child are successful ~10 minutes later , avoiding harm to child. However, if driver had been unable to reach the third party, the only alternatives would have been 911/break-glass.

I PURCHASED MY 2019 CROSSTREK IN NOVEMBER OF 2018. ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS THE RADIO / TOUCHSCREEN RESETS ITSELF. HOWEVER BEFORE EACH SELF STARTED RESET A LOUD BUZZING OR STATIC NOISE COMES ACROSS THE SPEAKERS SCARING THE EVER LIVING DAYLIGHTS OUT OF ME (THE DRIVER). THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN / HAZARD AS I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE ON ONE OCCASION OF THIS. I HAVE HAD THE WHOLE SYSTEM REPLACED BY MY DEALERSHIP AT NO CHARGE 1 MONTH AFTER PURCHASE. YET THE RADIO STILL HAS THE SAME ISSUES. ALL RADIO STATIONS I HAVE PROGRAMMED IN ARE ERASED WITH EACH SELF RESTART OF THE RADIO / TOUCH SCREEN THAT GOD AWFUL NOISE STILL HAPPENS. SUBARU DEALERSHIP SAYS THERE ARE NO SOFTWARE OR HARDWARE UPDATES AT THIS TIME. SO WHAT THE HECK GIVES!! SERIOUSLY SOMEONE IS GOING TO CRAP THEIR PANTS AND HAVE A HEART ATTACK DRIVING THIS VEHICLE WHAT THE RADIO BLASTS STATIC AIR WAVES ACROSS OUR SPEAKERS!

When driving, the car has intermittent random power failures. When you start to accelerate, it does not go even when applying full petal to the floor or letting go and pushing the petal again then it goes rapidly to speed. It is failing to accelerate more frequently and when I brought it in to the dealership twice, they said if I can tell them exactly how and when it is failing they would have a chance at fixing the problem. The problem they say is that it is random. Because of the problem with this we are seriously looking at buying another car. We no longer pull out into traffic because we do not know if it will fail. There are no warning lights on the dash or other indications.

SINCE I BOUGHT THIS CAR IN MARCH 2019 I HAVE HAD PROBLEMS. IT HAS BEEN IN FOR SERVICE 5 TIMES AND EACH TIME I TOLD THEM SOMETIMES WHEN YOU PUSH THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL THE ENGINE STUTTERS OR MISFIRES. SOME TIMES IT DOES NOT EVEN RESPOND TO PUSHING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THIS IS INFREQUENT AND THEY HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO EXPERIENCE IT. BUT, IT DOES EXIST AND I AM AFRAID ABOUT THE SAFETY. FOR EXAMPLE I WAS AT A STOP SIGN AND STARTED TO TURN LEFT AND I PRESSED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL AND IT WENT ABOUT TEN FEET AND WOULD NOT GO FURTHER. I PUMPED THE PEDAL AND TWO OR THREE SECONDS LATER IT MOVED. SUBARU TOLD ME I COULD TRADE IT IN AND THEY WOULD GIVE ME $2000 TOWARDS A NEW CAR ALONG WITH A TRADE IN VALUE OF $18,500 THIS IS HORRIBLE. I FEAR THE SAFETY BUT ALSO DON'T WANT TO SPEND ANOTHER $8 ,000 FOR A VEHICLE I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO BUY. ON THE SECOND VISIT TO THE DEALER FOR SERVICE AND PROBLEM WITH ENGINE THEY SAID THERE WAS TOO MUCH OIL IN THE ENGINE. THEY WERE THE ONLY ONES WHO TOUCHED THE OIL THAT WAS PUT IN THE ENGINE SINCE THE DAY I BOUGHT THE CAR. THIS IS A PROBLEM THAT NO ONE IS HELPING ME WITH. ALSO, I DID HAVE A RECALL FOR THE NEED TO UPDATE THE ENGINE COIL SOFTWARE PROGRAMING.

. I expect a full recall on this model years and relative MY vehicles with this specific engine due to its obsolescence in the subsequent years. I feel as if I was sold a lemon and defective engine that will eventually become a death trap Dear Bloomington Subaru Service Manager, I want to reiterate that this is not an isolated incident limited to your facility. Over the course of this vehicle’s history, I have visited more than five different Subaru dealerships — including White Bear Luther Subaru, Miller Hill Subaru, Walser Subaru, Morrie’s Minnetonka Subaru, and your own Luther Bloomington Subaru — for recurring ECM and engine-related concerns. Despite multiple ignition coil replacements, repeated ECM flashes/reprogramming, and assurances that the most recent updates would permanently resolve the issue, my Crosstrek continues to suffer from clunking, rattling, difficulties accelerating, rough idling, and even complete stalling when idling or in hot temperatures. At my most recent visit to Bloomington Subaru, the ECM was not loaded with the current software, ECM C1424 and C1422 and Diag Trouble Code P0011 code. There are 5-7 Subaru bulletins about ECM and these codes. I had this b4 2yrs ago yet the dealership won’t assist with repairs or costs associated with this defective oil control valve part as well as the defective design in the ECM / ECU and this specific engine in the 2019 Crosstrek, of which is no longer produced or manufactured. The ECM or Oil control valve has since been “replaced” and swapped with other components in future generations of Subarus this is defective & mechanically related, not from wear and tear or personal useThere is a recall where the camshaft can break and the PCV too leading to complete catastrophic engine failure, which is a safety issue and expired, but despite 5 ECM flashes, 3/4 sets of ignition coils my vehicle still struggles with the same issues today, costing me $750 and months with my car in the shop, recall this engine

I sent my Crosstrek to the dealer for the WRE21 recall. After retrieving the car from the dealership with the recall fix in place, the engine stalled while I was at a red light and I could see smoke coming out from the hood. This occurred after driving less than 4 miles from the dealership. I opened the hood and could see that one of the coil packs on the driver side cylinder bank was on fire. I called 911 and the Fire Department had to extinguish the fire. The fire has rendered the vehicle inoperable and smoke damaged.

Per NHTSA Product Campaign Bulletin WRE-21, all ignition coils on my 2019 Subaru Crosstrek Premium were replace on August 9th, 2021. On November 26th 2024, the same vehicle experienced a total loss of motive power on a 50 mph, 2-lane road, resulting in emergency action to move the car off of the right-of-way. All occupants of the car were not injured. After the vehicle was towed to a Subaru Dealership, the service notes stated “DIAGNOSED NO START SCANNED AND FOUND P1604 STARTABILITY MALFUNCTION, AND P0304 CYLINDER 4 MISFIRE, CHECKED FUEL PRESSURE AND FOUND IT WAS WITHIN SPEC, FOUND THE IGNITION COIL FUSE WAS BLOWN AND UPON FURTHER INSPECTION FOUND THE CYL 4 COIL PACK SHORTED INTERNALLY AND THE PRIMARY AND SECONDARY CIRCUITS CONNECTED BLOWING THE FUSE, COIL PACK AND FUSE WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED.” The wording of the technician’s notes mirror the wording of the WRE-21. The dealership offered a one-time free “goodwill replacement” of the part in question, but only for 1 cylinder. I believe further corrective action needs to be taken by the NHTSA to prevent total loss of motive power in affected Subaru crosstreks.

I PURCHASED MY 2019 SUBARU CROSSTREK HYBRID ON 5/31/19. I HAD THE FIRST INCIDENCE OF THE ?ALL THE WARNING LIGHTS COME ON? IN OCTOBER 9, 2019. AS I WAS BETWEEN TOWNS IN RURAL NORTHERN NY, AND 75 MILES FROM HOME THIS WAS SCARY. I PULLED OVER, CHECKED THE OIL AND FLUIDS (ALL WERE OK), AND CALLED THE DEALER. THEY SAID I COULD CONTINUE TO DRIVE THE CAR AND TO BRING IT IN THE NEXT DAY WHEN I GOT HOME. SO I CONTINUED TO MY NEXT DESTINATION AND SHUT OFF THE CAR FOR ABOUT 2 HOURS DURING OUR HAIRCUTS. THEN WHEN I RESTARTED THE CAR THE PROBLEM RECURRED. I DROVE PART WAY HOME THAT WAY AND WE STOPPED AT A RESTAURANT FOR SUPPER. WHEN WE RESUMED OUR TRIP AFTER SUPPER THE WARNING LIGHTS WERE GONE. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER THE NEXT DAY, OCTOBER 10. THEY COULD FIND NO REASON FOR THE PROBLEM AND IT WAS NOT THEN OCCURRING. SUBSEQUENTLY THE PROBLEM RECURRED ON 12/20, 12/21, AND 12/22/19. AND ON 1/16/20 THE HEADLIGHTS WOULDN?T WORK! ON FEBRUARY 12, 2020 THE PROBLEM RECURRED ON A TRIP OUT OF TOWN. I HAVE VISITED THE DEALER FOUR MORE TIMES FOR THIS PROBLEM ? ON 11/19/19, 12 /12/19, 12/20/19, AND 1/2/20. DURING THAT TIME THE SERVICE MANAGER STATED THAT THERE WERE MULTIPLE REPORTS OF SIMILAR PROBLEMS ON 2019 CROSSTREK HYBRIDS. HE ASKED ME, AND I AGREED, TO BE ONE OF A DOZEN CROSSTREK OWNERS IN THE US TO HAVE MONITORING HARDWARE INSTALLED TO READ THE ELECTRONIC CODES WHICH RESULTED WHEN THE PROBLEM OCCURRED. ON FEBRUARY 12, 2020 THE PROBLEM RECURRED. I CONTACTED THE DEALER TO LET THEM KNOW. ON MAY 7TH 2020, THE PROBLEM RECURRED YET AGAIN. BARSTOW?S SERVICE DEPARTMENT CONTACTED ME TO ARRANGE FOR ANOTHER APPOINTMENT SCHEDULED FOR 6/8/20. THE PURPOSE WAS TO UPDATE THE ELECTRONIC SYSTEM WITH A ?FIX? DERIVED FROM THE STUDY IN WHICH I PARTICIPATED IN DEC 2019-JANUARY 2020. THE NEXT DAY, JUNE 9, I STARTED THE CAR AND THE PROBLEM RECURRED! *TR

AT AROUND THE 2000 MILE MARK I NOTICED A DRASTIC REDUCTION IN FUEL ECONEMY. I ALSO STARTED NOTICING METAL PARTICLES IN THE ENGINE OIL. I ALSO NOTICED A SIGNIFICANT DROP IN ENGINE POWER AS WELL. THIS IS A SIGN OF DEBRIS GETTING IN THE ENGINE AND CAUSING METAL PARTICLES TO BECOME BROKEN OFF. MY MILEAGE WENT FROM 460-480 MPT TO 360-380 MPT. (MPT=MILES PER TANK) I HAVE BROUGHT THE VEHICLE INTO THE DEALERSHIP AND NOTHING WAS FOUND FROM THRM TESTING THE FUEL SYSTEM. I HAVE BEEN DOCUMENTING THIS THRU PHOTOGRAPS ON MY TRIPOMETER. I TOOK DEALERSHIPS ADVICE AND TRIED A DIFFERENT GAS STATION WITH THE SAME RESULTS. FUEL ECONEMY IS AVERAGING 22-33 MPG CITY/HIGHWAY. I DRIVE 20 OF 25 MILES EACH WAY TO WORK ON THE HIGHWAY. THE DISPLAY THAT READS GAS MILEAGE BASED ON HOW I DRIVE IN THE CAR SAYS I SHOULD BE GETTING BETWEEN 27-28 MPG BASED ON HOW I DRIVE.

STEERING,LANE DEPARTURE
2 complaints
My 2019 Subaru Crosstrek surges at speeds around 60 MPH, and swerves the vehicle without my control. I have to hold the steering wheel tightly and steer out of the swerve, which is incredibly dangerous on freeways or mountain roads. Apparently, the lane departure assist is the culprit, so now I have to disable the app before I drive. Why would I allow this dangerous application to drive my car for me? I have barely avoided crashing into semi trucks and driving into road shoulders because of this device. I think the car is dangerous. There is yet another dangerous issue with this car. There is another device that disables the transmission while idling in traffic. The steering and transmission are literally locked in place. I had this happen once in a drive through window, and once on a hill, while traffic was stopped for an accident. When the traffic started to move again, 20 minutes later, I could not get my car to start, and I was in front of a mile long line of traffic, coming back to highway speed, completely stopped. A policeman stopped and knew that there was a little " dimple" on my dashboard that would uncover a locking mechanism. If we only had a slender probe that would fit inside the dimple-pencil too big, so was screwdriver. By this time, I had 2 policemen stopped and traffic whizzing by me. An electrician stopped, knew about the dimple too, and had a slender enough rod to fit into the area, slid the locking mechanism to the side, and started the car again. On both of these issues, I called Subaru customer service and Subaru corporate. NOBODY knew what these issues were, never heard of them! The car is inherently dangerous and I am stuck driving it because I financed it only a year ago and can't afford to buy another car. Subaru should at least acknowledge these dangerous issues, and offer me another model without these issues. The 2019 Crosstrek is the model I have that has these dangerous issues. Earlier and later models do not.

I've owned cars for 40 years. And not once in 40 years, has the ash from a cigarette caused a seat to immediately burn. And I mean burn. Not just a burn on the outside of the fabric, but deep down into the padded material within seconds. Thankfully, I was able to put it out in the heavy smoke phase, before it turned into a full blown burning flame, burning the entire car seat and car. After my experience, it floored me that wasn't discovered during any type of testing that might be done on a vehicle. A major safety issue in my mind. I decided to report it now, because I'm surprised nobody else has. Considering there aren't a lot of cigarette smokers it's not surprising I guess.

Vehicle had a parasitic draw, was in the shop for an extended amount of time, I believe wiring issues were caused from this as well, I had to replace my driver side window switch, buy an optima battery, and drive 3.5hrs to a Subaru dealership in the middle of the winter hoping I’d make it safely and without stalling, the DCM was found to be at fault similarly to other vehicle owners included in another recall that somehow excluded 2019 Crosstrek drivers and included other MY variants such as the Outback and Forester of which also had a bulletin posted about this parasitic draw and how to go about warrantying the costs associated with the repair. I incurred many costs travelling, horrible gas mileage during this time, and a battery replacement. Additionally I lost My workstudy position the following semester due to the unstable vehicle issues and attendance concerns when shuttling the car to the dealer for these warranty repairs (if even covered at all)

Hello! I started financing my 2019 Subaru Crosstrek in 04/2023. A month after that date, I had a head gasket issue. Then in 2024, a radiator cap deformed after going to the dealer to get an oil change at SF Honda. (The time on that was suspicious being that I didn’t touch that cap at all.) so I had to pay for that repair. Now in 2025, after getting an oil change at Subaru, a day after that oil change, a lot of lights came onto my dashboard. I have two diagnosis reports from other places because I didn’t have the money to pay Subaru $300 to “diagnose” the issue, especially after my car just came from there a day before the problem existed. Since I got into this vehicle, I’ve been suspicious whether or not it’s safe for me, reason also being, I found out in 2024, that this car has been into 5 wrecks. Which I was NOT aware of prior. And now, they are making me feel, there is NOTHING they can do, unless I have a Co-signer, or the approved “credit” score. And now that my vehicle has “7” recalls! I am hoping I can get out of this vehicle. Thanks!

I have two of the same model car seat for both my wife's and my cars. In the rear facing position, neither car seat locks into the set recline position. Instead it clicks out of what we set it at and slides all the way to the #1 position which is the most reclined. This seems to be a major safety issue and suspiciously Evenflo has discontinued this model which is a somewhat new model. Upon looking up recent online reviews, it seems that many parents have this same issue and significant safety concern. This car seat needs to be investigated ASAP and possibly recalled.

The screen display with the oil temp gauge and water temp gauge will randomly turn off while driving as well as sometimes it will not turn on immediately when the car turns on. I have brought this to the dealers attention and nothing has been done, there has been no warning lights on the dash illuminated. This has been going on randomly for the last 6 months. Another issue is that when the bluetooth or carplay is inuse and there is a call in progress the digital speed display is blocked by a screen that says call in progress. This is very dangerous that the digital speed display is blocked when bluetooth or car play is used to make calls. This has many times resulted in me speeding as the speedometer on the car is marked well with tick marks for how big the arm is that tells you how fast you’re going. There is no reason subaru should block the digital speed display. The infotainment system powers off randomly, changes the radio station on its own, and changes the volume on its own. This started in 2019 when I got the car and the issue was observed by the dealer and the radio was replaced. However now that the radio was replaced in 2019 or 2020 the radio has been recently not turning on when the car is started, shutting off in the middle of the drive, and sometimes not even connecting to carplay to use navigation. Subaru won't help me anymore or even look at the car now for this concern without charging an insane diagnostic fee (which is wrong to charge for safety concerns)

The contact owned a 2019 Subaru Crosstrek. The contact stated while her husband was driving at 25-30 MPH downhill, the tractor trailer before him slowed down at a curve. The contact's husband depressed the brake pedal but it failed to respond and the vehicle accelerated unintendedly, causing the vehicle to fall into a ditch where it bounced and hit the rear of a trailer, then bounced back into the embankment. The passenger's side and driver's side roof rail air bags deployed. The frontal air bags failed to deploy. The emergency units transported the contact and her husband to the hospital where it was diagnosed that the contact had sustained a compression fracture in her back. Her husband did not sustain any injuries. The occupant of the trailer did not sustain any injuries. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a tow lot where it was totaled. The dealer was not notified of the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a case was opened. The contact was awaiting a call back from the manufacturer. The failure mileage was approximately 31,200.

There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact veered to the side of the road. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed an engine failure and that the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V264000 (Electrical System, Engine and Engine Cooling). The vehicle of concern is a 2019 Subaru Crosstrek Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV). In the past 2 to 3 months, we have had multiple warning lights come on when the vehicle is started. In some cases, we were able to clear the warning lights by turning the vehicle off and back on several times over the course of 30-40 minutes. The two most recent occurrences involved the vehicle having to be towed to the dealership as either the car would not shift out of Park or upon shifting out of Park, the parking brake would not release. The car was driven to the Burlington Subaru dealership in Burlington, VT about 5-6 weeks ago where they were unable to reproduce the problem or find any information logged in the vehicle's logs. Two weeks ago (8/19/21), the vehicle was towed to the dealership. The service department was able to log/see the errors (ABS, Check Engine, Eyesight System and Vehicle Dynamic Control) which were also logged in the MySubaru app. The dealership drove the vehicle almost 250 miles in attempts to diagnose the problem further. They upgraded the ECM software and they did not see the problem after that. I picked the vehicle up the morning of 8/30/21 and the problem recurred the evening of 8/30/21 resulting in the 2nd tow back to the dealership. The same errors as before were reported and seen by the dealership. On 9/1/21, I was informed by the service dept rep the problem was root caused to be a faulty electronic parking switch resulting in a drained battery. They are awaiting the new part which is in short supply in the US currently so no reliable ETA. The dealer would like to keep the car an additional couple of days after they receive the part to see if the problem is resolved. The car has approximately 23,000 miles on it currently.

I received 2 recall notices in the mail from Subaru 0n 6/16/2021. I immediately contacted the selling dealer, Dunning Subaru, Ann Arbor Michigan and was advised that they could not even give me a date in July when the vehicle could be repaired, but they would add my name to a waiting list for appointments. I contacted Subaru customer service for assistance and was told I would have to find a local retailer on my own and that though they said the vehicle was not safe to drive, they refused to offer and substitute transportation until the vehicle could be repaired. I contacted LaFontaine Subaru, Commerce Twsp, Mi and was advised that they have been unable to order sufficient parts for this recall and while the earliest available appointment was for July 7th (3 weeks from today) they could not guarantee that they would have the parts on that date to actually perform the repair. In short, Subaru produced a defective vehicle; advised me it was not safe to drive the vehicle; is unable to repair the vehicle in a reasonable timeframe; and refuses to provide substitute transportation. What is the good of a recall program if repairs can't be made and the customer is stuck without transportation; and the company response is essentially - "it's the customers problem to deal with - have a nice day!"

MY SUBARU CROSSTREK IS A 2019 - LESS THAN 2 YEARS OLD AND STILL COVERED BY WARRANTY. WE COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED. I BROUGHT THE CAR IN IMMEDIATELY TO THE DEALER SERVICE I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN GOING TO, AND THEY CANNOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR. IN HIS OWN WORDS, THE SERVICE MANAGER SAID "I WOULD NOT FEEL COMFORTABLE LETTING MY FAMILY OR LOVED ONES USING YOUR CAR" - BUT HE OFFERED NO HELP. HE SAID THAT THEY CAN'T FIND A PROBLEM, THEY CAN'T FIND AN ERROR CODE, AND THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO. I DON'T FEEL SAFE DRIVING THIS VEHICLE GIVEN THAT A SERIOUS, DANGEROUS, HAZARDS, AND POTENTIALLY LIFE-THREATENING ENGINE FAILURE OCCURED WITH NO APPARENT CAUSE IN A BRAND NEW CAR. THE FACT THAT THE SERVICE MANAGER HIMSELF SAID THAT IT'S NOT SAFE TO DRIVE BUT COULDN'T OFFER ANY EXPLANATION OF WHY THE INFORMATION OCCURED IS VERY FRUSTRATING. THE DEALERSHIP IS GIVING ME A DANGEROUS CAR BACK WITH NO KNOWLEDGE OF HOW TO FIX IT OR WHEN IT WILL HAPPEN AGAIN. IF THE ENGINE DIES ON THE HIGHWAY OR ON A CROWDED STREET, IT COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT IN WHICH MYSELF AND OTHERS ARE SERIOUSLY INJURED OR KILLED.

AFTER STARTING THE CAR AND BEGINNING TO REVERSE AWAY FROM MY HOME, THE REAR VIEW CAMERA FROZE FOR 10 SECONDS, NOT SHOWING ANY CHANGE IN MOVING OR STATIONARY OBJECTS. THIS HAPPENED DUE TO THE DRIVER SCREEN INTERFACE/ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEM CRASHING AND REBOOTING. THE CRASH/REBOOT USUALLY HAPPENS IF THE CAR PAIRS BY BLUETOOTH WITH A PHONE THAT IS IN THE HOUSE, AND THEN GETS OUT OF RANGE WHEN THE CAR BACKS AWAY OR DRIVES AWAY FROM THE HOUSE. IF IT CRASHES WHILE REVERSING, THE SCREEN EITHER GOES BLANK OR FREEZES THE REAR VIEW IMAGE IN PLACE. IF THE SYSTEM CRASHES WHILE DRIVING FORWARD THEN THE REVERSE CAMERA IMAGE IS NOT AFFECTED. WHEN THE CAMERA FREEZES WHILE REVERSING, IT IS VERY DANGEROUS SINCE IT GIVES THE DRIVER THE FALSE VIEW THAT NOTHING IS BEHIND THE CAR WHEN THERE COULD BE A CHILD OR OBJECT.

MY WIFES CAR STARTED SMELLING LIKE GASOLINE INSIDE THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT. WE TOOK IT TO A SUBARU DEALER AND A RODENT HAD CHEWED THE HIGH PRESSURE GAS LINE. IT THEN SPRAYED GASOLINE RIGHT INTO HER BACK SEAT FOAM AND CUSHION. IF WE TAKE THE RODENT OUT OF THE EQUATION, THIS CAR IS NOT SAFE AND WE WANT OUR MONEY BACK IN FULL. THE MATERIAL FOR WIRING AND FUEL LINES ARE MADE FROM A SOY BASED PRODUCT ATTRACTING RODENTS. THE SEAL THEY USE FOR THE GAS TANK ACCESS UNDER THE REAR SEAT IS A CHEAP FOAM NOT A NEOPRENE RUBBER OR O-RING. IF THE GAS WOULD OF LEAKED ONTO JUST THE GROUND I WOULDN'T EVEN BE TYPING THIS LETTER. I AM EXTREMELY CONCERNED ABOUT HIGH PRESSURE GAS GETTING INTO THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT. I WANT TO CONTACT A LAWYER ABOUT THIS AND MAKE SUBARU ACCOUNTABLE. THE DEALER EVEN TOLD ME IT WAS THE SECOND ONE IN 2 WEEKS. THEY MUST USE A SOY BASED FUEL LINE TO ATTRACT TO RODENT, AND THEN THE FOAM SEAL IN NO WAY IS SAFE TO PREVENT A PRESSURE OF GASOLINE FROM REACHING INSIDE THE VEHICLE. MY WIFES CAR IS 13 MO OLD AND ONLY HAS 7400 MILES ON IT. SHE IS DEVASTATED AS THIS WAS HER FIRST BRAND NEW CAR EVER. NO WE HAVE A CAR WITH GAS SMELL INSIDE FOREVER. PLEASE HELP US!

AFTER BEING PARKED OUTSIDE IN MY DRIVE WAY IN TAHOE CITY DURING A SNOWY NIGHT, MY WINDSHIELD CRACKED IN SEVERAL PLACES. I NOTICED THE DAMAGE IN THE MORNING AFTER REMOVING THE SNOW AND TURNING ON MY VEHICLE. I HAVE BEEN READING ONLINE THAT THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE BUT SUBARU HAS NOT BEEN RECALLING WINDSHIELDS. I CONFIRMED WITH MY SUBARU SERVICE CENTER THAT THIS ISSUE IS NOT UNDER WARANTY.

I AM APPEALING TO YOU FOR HELP WITH A DANGEROUS PROBLEM. THE ENGINE OF MY NEW 2019 SUBARU CROSSTREK STALLS WHEN I JAM ON THE BREAK. THIS HAS HAPPENED TWICE ON THE ROAD. BOTH TIMES I WAS ABLE TO AVERT A FATAL ACCIDENT. 1.) THE FIRST TIME THE ENGINE SHUT DOWN FROM A HARD STOP OCCURRED THE NIGHT OF DECEMBER 26TH. THE DRIVER WAS ON THE HIGHWAY, WHEN HE MADE A SHARP BREAK REALIZING HE'D GONE IN THE WRONG DIRECTION. THE CAR'S ENGINE SHUT DOWN ON THE HIGHWAY. LUCKILY IT WAS NIGHT AND FEW CARS WERE ON THE ROAD 2.) ON SUNDAY, APRIL 7TH, I WAS DRIVING SLOWLY ON A COUNTRY ROAD. I STOPPED SUDDENLY BEFORE A STOP SIGN I HADN'T SEEN. THE CAR ENGINE SHUT DOWN. I HAD TO TURN THE ENGINE ON A COUPLE OF TIMES BEFORE THE CAR GOT GOING. LUCKILY I WAS DRIVING ON A COUNTRY ROAD WHERE THERE WERE FEW CARS. I DID A LITTLE RESEARCH ON THE PROBLEM OF THE ENGINE SHUTTING OFF AND FOUND THAT THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH CERTAIN SUBARU CROSSTREKS. THE SUBARU DEALER IN VESTAL, NY, AND SUBARU AMERICA DID INSPECTIONS ON MY CAR AND CONCLUDED THAT THERE IS NO DATA CONFIRMING THE PROBLEM. I SAY THAT THE READINGS ARE NOT TELLING THE WHOLE STORY. I WANT A COMPLETE DIAGNOSIS AND RESOLUTION TO THIS DANGEROUS PROBLEM. I WANT TO KNOW WHAT IS CAUSING A SHUTOFF WHEN BREAKING SUDDENLY AND A SOLUTION, WHATEVER THAT MAY BE. I WANT TO BE SAFE ON THE ROAD AS DO OTHER PEOPLE WHO HAVE BEEN REPORTING THE SAME PROBLEM: HTTP://WWW.SUBARUXVFORUM.COM/FORUM/ENGINE-DRIVETRAIN/163282-ENGINE-STALL-AFER-HARD-BREAKING.HTML?AMP=1 HTTPS://WWW.YOURMECHANIC.COM/ESTIMATES/SUBARU/CROSSTREK/WHEN-I-SLOW-DOWN-AND-STOP-THE-CAR-ENGINE-SHUTS-OFF-INSPECTION

CAR HAS REPEATEDLY TURNED ITSELF OFF WHILE DRIVING. TWICE, WHEN PRESSING THE BRAKES WHILE EXITING THE HIGHWAY, ALL DASHBOARD LIGHTS (EYESIGHT ALARMS, CHECK ENGINE, ETC.) WILL TURN ON. WHEN THE CAR COMES TO A STOP, THE OIL LIGHT ALSO TURNS ON AND THE ENGINE SHUTS OFF, ESSENTIALLY PUTTING THE CAR IN NEUTRAL. THE DASH INSTRUCTS TO PUT THE CAR IN PARK. THE CAR STARTS AGAIN AFTER PUSHING THE IGNITION TO TURN OFF THE CAR AND TURNING IT BACK ON AGAIN, BUT WILL HAVE THE SAME THING HAPPEN THE NEXT TIME THE BRAKES ARE PRESSED AND THE CAR SLOWS DOWN. IT HAS TURNED OFF TWICE WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION, GOING SLOWLY. AFTER THREE FIRST INSTANCES OF THIS PROBLEM, THE CAR WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY FOUND A "FATAL ERROR OF THE ECM" AND THE MAIN COMPUTER IN THE CAR WAS CHANGED AND THE GROUNDS WERE TESTED. THE SECOND INSTANCE OF THIS PROBLEM OCCURRED ON THE SAME DAY THE VEHICLE WAS PICKED UP FROM REPAIRS. THE CAR HAD ~200 MILES WHEN THE PROBLEM FIRST OCCURRED AND HAS LESS THAN 250 CURRENTLY. IN SUMMARY, THE CAR HAS TURNED OFF, MAKING IT UNABLE TO ACCELERATE, WHILE IN TRAFFIC ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. THERE WERE ISSUES WITH APPLE CARPLAY GLITCHING JUST BEFORE EACH INSTANCE OCCURRED. THE INSTANCES WERE EXACTLY ONE WEEK APART.

THIS VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. AT NIGHT, WHEN HEADLIGHTS ARE SET ON "AUTO," THE ILLUMINATED GEAR INDICATOR LIGHT ADJACENT TO THE SHIFTER DO NOT ILLUMINATE. THIS LEAVES THE POSSIBILITY OF SHIFTING THE CAR INTO THE WRONG GEAR. THESE LIGHTS DO ILLUMINATE WITH THE LIGHTS SET TO MANUAL. THE SPECIFIC INCIDENT OCCURRED WHEN AN OLDER DRIVER PARKED THE VEHICLE, THINKING SHE HAD SHIFTED INTO PARK, AND INSTEAD, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO REVERSE. HAD SHE BEEN ABLE TO VISUALLY VERIFY THE GEAR, THIS WOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED.
