I WAS STOPPED AT A STOP SIGN. WHILE PREPARING TO DRIVE OFF. I WAS STRUCK IN THE BACK OF THE CAR. I LOST CONSCIOUSNESS MOMENTARILY. AN AMBULANCE WAS CALLED. I WAS PUT ON A STRETCHER AND TRANSPORTED TO THE HOSPITAL FOR 8 HOURS. THE AIRBAG OF THE VEHICLE DID NOT DEPLOY. SOME TIME AFTER THE ACCIDENT I NOTICED THE AIRBAG LIGHT WAS ON. THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG ON MY 2001 VW JETTA DEPLOYED WHILE I WAS PARKING MY CAR AT WORK. AS I CAME TO A FULL STOP WHERE I WAS GOING TO PARK MY CAR I HEARD A LOUD BANG FROM INSIDE THE CAB OF MY JETTA. THE LOUD BANG DISTORTED MY THINKING PROCESS AS I WAS TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHERE THE LOUD NOISE CAME FROM. AS THE SMOKE FILLED MY CAR I STILL COULD NOT FIGURE OUT WHAT JUST HAPPEN UNTIL I LOOKED AROUND INSIDE THE CAB OF MY CAR AND WITH THE SMOKE INSIDE THE CAB I WAS ABLE TO SEE A WHITE BAG STICKING OUT OF THE PASSENGER SEAT IN MY CAR, THIS IS WHEN I KNEW THAT THE AIR BAG ON THE PASSENGER SEAT HAD DEPLOYED. THERE WERE NO OTHER CARS NEAR ME, THERE WERE NO HEAVY WINDS BLOWING EARLY THAT MORNING, AND I DID NOT HIT ANY POTHOLES NOR DID I HIT ANY SIDE CURVES WHILE PARKING MY CAR AND THE AIR BAG STILL WENT OFF.

I WAS DRIVING TO MY PARENTS HOUSE ON CHRISTMAS MORNING WITH FOUR OTHER PASSENGERS WHEN I HIT A POT HOLE GOING LESS THAN 25 MPH WHEN MY PASSENGER SIDE CURTAIN AND PASSENGER THORAX AIRBAG DEPLOYED WITHOUT WARNING SHUTTING OFF MY ENGINE AND FILLING MY CAR WITH SMOKE. THERE WAS NO VISIBLE EXTERIOR DAMAGE TO THE BODY, SUSPENSION, OR TIRE OF MY VEHICLE AND NOT NOTICEABLE DIFFERENCE IN HANDLING AFTER THE INCIDENT. TWO OF MY PASSENGERS SUSTAINED BRUISES AND SCRAPES TO THEIR ARMS, SHOULDERS, NECK, AND RIBS, AS WELL AS TEMPORARY HEARING IMPAIRMENT ONE OF THOSE PASSENGERS BEING A CHILD. CURRENTLY THERE IS A HOLE IN MY PASSENGER SEAT WHERE THE AIRBAG RIPPED THROUGH THE UPHOLSTERY AND DAMAGE TO MY HEADLINER. THE AIRBAGS' DEPLOYMENT WAS UNWARRANTED AND HAS ROBBED ME OF MY PIECE OF MIND WHILE DRIVING. I FLINCH EVERY TIME I AM UNABLE TO AVOID A ROAD IMPERFECTION FOR FEAR THAT THIS MIGHT HAPPEN AGAIN TO THE DRIVER'S SIDE OF MY CAR. LOCK UNIT FOR CENTRAL LOCKING DRIVERS SIDE FRONT VW PART F220 SWITCHES INDICATING A "DOOR OPEN" STATUS FAIL ON A REGULAR BASIS ON UNITS MANUFACTURED BETWEEN 1999 AND 2001. VW REDESIGNED THE PART IN 2002, BUT OFFERED NO CORRECTIVE ACTION FOR VEHICLES WITH THE FLAWED DESIGN. WHEN THE SWITCH IS INOPERABLE, THE LAMP ON THE DOOR DOES NOT ILLUMINATE WHEN THE DOOR IS OPENED, MAKING IT INVISIBLE TO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. IN ADDITION, THE DOME LIGHT DOES NOT ILLUMINATE WHEN THE DOOR IS OPENED. FINALLY, SINCE THE CAR DOES NOT SENSE THAT THE DOOR IS OPENED, IT WILL RE-LOCK ITSELF AFTER 30 SECONDS, POTENTIALLY STRANDING A DRIVER OUTSIDE THE VEHICLE.

MY JETTA WILL NOT START AFTER NO SIGNS OF AN ISSUE. I'VE HAD IT TOWED TWICE BECAUSE OF THIS ISSUE TO PEP BOYS (PER WARRANTY COMPANY) AND WAS ABLE TO DRIVE IT HOME BUT THAT IS IT. THEY TOLD ME THAT IT SEEMED AS IF SOMETHING WAS DRAINING THE BATTERY. I'VE TAKEN THE BATTERY TO PLACE OF PURCHASE AND RESULTS WERE GOOD AND THE BATTERY IS FINE. PEP BOYS RECOMMENDS I TAKE CAR TO VW DEALER. THIS IS TOUGH ON MY FAMILY AND I BECAUSE THIS IS OUR ONLY CAR AND NO ONE CAN TELL US THE REASON WHY OUR CAR DOESN'T WORK. CAR WAS PURCHASED 7/24/2010. *TR

I HAVE MY CAR AT SCHOOL IN SOUTH BEND INDIANA AND IT IS STORED OUTSIDE. EARLY THIS WINTER THE CAR STARTED TO IDLE VERY ROUGH. IF I TRIED TO GO TOO QUICKLY AFTER TURNING THE CAR ON I WOULD GET A FLASHING CHECK ENGINE LIGHT THAT READ FOR A RANDOM CYLINDER MISFIRE WHEN THE CODE WAS PULLED. THIS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES. SO I HAD TO LET THE ENGINE IDLE FOR AT LEAST 10 MINUTES SO THAT IT COULD TRY AND WARM UP BEFORE I COULD GO ANYWHERE. IN MID FEBRUARY I TURNED THE CAR ON IN THE AFTERNOON AND I NOTICED IT WAS IDLING VERY ROUGH. SO I CRACKED THE HOOD AND THERE I SAW SPARKS JUMPING FROM THE BEGINNING OF THE SPARK PLUG WIRES TO THE ENGINE BLOCK. A MECHANIC CONFIRMED WHAT I SUSPECTED, THAT THE COIL PACK WAS CRACKED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. I DID AN ONLINE SEARCH AND FOUND THAT VW HAD ISSUED A RECALL FOR VR6S THAT HAD PROBLEMS WITH CRACKED COIL PACKS. HOWEVER, WHEN I CALLED THEM ABOUT IT I WAS TOLD THAT MY CAR WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. IT WAS NOT THE RIGHT ENGINE MODEL BECAUSE THEY CHANGED ENGINE MODELS HALF WAY THROUGH 2001 AND MY CAR WAS THE OLD MODEL. DESPITE THE FACT THAT I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM WITH A CRACKING COIL PACK IN A CAR OF THE RIGHT MODEL FROM THE SAME YEAR THEY WOULDN'T DO ANYTHING. THESE COIL PACKS HAVE BEEN A PROBLEM FOR MANY VR6 OWNERS AS EVIDENCE FROM THE EXTENSIVE ONLINE FORUMS. I DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW MY CAR WITH THE SAME PROBLEM AND DOCUMENTED HISTORY AS THE 2003 RECALL ISN'T ALSO COVERED IN THE RECALL. I HAVE NOT HAD THE COIL PACK REPAIRED YET BECAUSE IT COSTS 500 DOLLARS AND I DON'T HAVE THAT TO SPEND RIGHT KNOW. *TR

OUR 2001 VW JETTA GLS SPUTTERS INTERMITTENTLY AND LOOSES ACCELERATION POWER AT IN OPPORTUNE TIMES. ACCORDING TO THE DEALER THE PROBLEM IS WITH THE IGNITION COIL, AND THAT VW IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND ARE RECALLING CERTAIN MODELS. OURS HAS NOT HAD THE RECALL AS OF 11/1/09. WHEN THIS PROBLEM OCCURS, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT BLINKS. I HAVE FOUND THAT PULLING OVER, SHUTTING THE ENGINE OFF AND REMOVING THE KEY FOR 30 SECONDS AND THEN RE-STARTING SOLVES THE PROBLEM. WHEN THE DEALER PULLED THE CHECK ENGINE CODES, THERE WERE 2. ONE FOR THE MISFIRE AND A "CATALYST EFFICIENCY BELOW THRESHOLD. THE DEALER SAID THE LATTER IS DUE TO THE MISFIRE AND IN TIME THE MISFIRES WILL RUIN THE CATALYST. UNFORTUNATELY AT OVER 75000 MILES AND 8.5 YEARS, NO WARRANTIES APPLY. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT COULD EASILY CAUSE A COLLISION AND WHEN PARTS BECOME AVAILABLE, WE WILL HAVE THE IGNITION COIL REPLACED. VW IS CLEARLY AWARE OF THE PROBLEMS AND SHOULD ACCELERATE THEIR RECALL CAMPAIGN ON THIS ISSUE. ALSO, THEY SHOULD REPLACE THE CATALYSTS THAT HAVE HAD THEIR USEFUL LIFE LOWERED BY THIS PROBLEM. *TR

WHEN THE MECHANIC TESTED THE COILPACKS, THEY WERE WORKING PROPERLY. PRESENTLY, RANDOM CYLINDERS CONTINUE TO MISFIRE EVEN THOUGH BRAND NEW COIL PACKS ARE INSTALLED. AFTER THE RECALL WORK WAS PERFORMED, THE LIGHTS ILLUMINATED AGAIN. THE DEALER HAS NOT BEEN NOTIFIED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DEALER GAVE HER A LIST OF REPAIRS THAT NEED TO BE PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE. THE TOTAL COST FOR THE REPAIRS WILL BE $2,000. THE PURCHASE DATE AND FAILURE MILEAGE WERE UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 36,860.

AFTER RECEIVING THE VEHICLE FROM AN AUTO SHOP THE BATTERY WAS DEAD. I HAD THEM JUMP START IT AND THE AIRBAG DUMMY LIGHT CAME ON AS SOON AS THE CAR STARTED. IT BEEPED AND SAID AIRBAG FAULT ON THE DASH. THEN THE TURN SIGNAL SYSTEM STARTED TO SIMULATE THE SOUND OF THE TURN SIGNAL AS IF IT WAS ON. FIRST IT WAS AFTER I COMPLETED THE TURN IT WOULD STAY ON AND SPEED UP OR SLOW DOWN THE CLICKING NOISE. WITHIN A MONTH IT STARTED DOING IT WHILE I WAS DRIVING STRAIGHT DOWN THE ROAD. I AM UNSURE IF THE TURN SIGNAL SYSTEM IS WORKING PROPERLY. SOMETIMES THE FLASHERS DON'T SEEM WORK AT RANDOM AS FAR AS I CAN TELL FROM THE DRIVERS SEAT. I HAD A DEALER RESET THE AIRBAG FAULT BUT THEY SAID THAT THEY "THINK" THAT WE NEED TO REPLACE THE MULTI-FUNCTION SWITCH ON THE SIDE OF THE STEERING COLUMN. I'M NOT ABOUT TO SPEND 500 DOLLARS ON SOMETHING THAT THE DEALER ISN'T EVEN SURE OF THEMSELVES. *JB

TURN SIGNAL ON 2001 VW JETTA OPERATES AT RANDOM OR NOT AT ALL. THIS CONDITION BEGAN OCCURRING FOLLOWING THE REPAIR OF A MALFUNCTIONING BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH (RECALLS 06V183000 & 04V096000). SIGNALS FAILED TO TURN ON, OR TURNED ON WITH SPORADIC FUNCTIONING. VOLKSWAGEN SERVICE INDICATED THIS WAS CAUSED BY A SHORTED HAZARD SWITCH. HAZARD SWITCH WAS REPLACED FOR A COST OF US $131.55. DEALER INDICATED A RECALL WAS ISSUED FOR THIS PROBLEM (RECALL 04V584000) HOWEVER INDICATED VEHICLE DOES NOT QUALIFY UNDER THE RECALL DESPITE HAVING AN IDENTICAL ISSUE. IF FIND IT UTTERLY RIDICULOUS THAT VOLKSWAGEN WILL NOT COVER THE COST OF REPAIRS GIVEN THAT THE IDENTICAL PROBLEM IS RECALLED FOR OTHER JETTAS. IN ADDITION I FIND IT MORALLY UNACCEPTABLE AS VOLKSWAGEN IS PUTTING DRIVERS AT RISK AS INTERMITTENT OR INOPERATIVE TURN SIGNALS IS A SAFETY CONCERN: FAILURE TO PROVIDE THE PROPER SIGNAL WHEN TURNING OR PERFORMING A LATERAL MOVE COULD LEAD TO A CRASH WITHOUT WARNING. *NM

WE HAVE A 2001 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA TDI THAT WE BOUGHT IN DAYTONA BEACH, FL. THE CAR HAS 39,000 MILES ON IT. WE RECENTLY EXPERIENCED A PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKES. WE WERE ON RT92 WHEN THE CAR STARTED SLOWING DOWN AND WOULD NOT GO ANY FASTER; THIS IS IN A 50MPH SPEED ZONE. MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING AND AS SOON AS TRAFFIC WOULD LET HIM HE GOT OVER IN THE RIGHT HAND LANE AND ALL THE TIME THE CAR IS GOING SLOWER AND SLOWER. HE DECIDED TO CHECK THE BRAKES AND FOUND THE BRAKE PEDAL DOWN, PUTTING HIS FOOT UNDER THE PEDAL HE GOT IT BACK UP AND THEN THE CAR STARTED MOVING FASTER. THIS CAR HAD APPLIED THE BRAKES ALL ON ITS OWN. THEN WE STOPPED AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT AND THE BRAKES WOULD MAKE A NOISE SOUNDING LIKE AIR BRAKES. I BOUGHT MY 2001 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA USED IN JULY 2006. EVER SINCE, THERE HAS BEEN A HORRIBLE SMELL OF CRAYONS INFUSED THROUGHOUT MY CAR. I TRIED EVERYTHING TO GET THE SMELL OUT. A 2001 VW JETTA HAS AN ISSUE WITH A METAL SPRING THAT IS PART OF THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT. THE SPRING SEPARATES FROM THE MECHANISM THAT KEEPS THE SEAT FROM SLIDING FORWARD. THERE IS NO SPECIFIC REASON THE SPRING BECOMES LOOSE FROM THE CAR SEAT AND ONE WOULD NEVER KNOW IF THE SPRING IS NOT ATTACHED, IT COULD CAUSE MAJOR HARM TO THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT. THE SEAT REMAINS LOCKED IN A POSITION, BUT IF THE CAR IS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT, THE SEAT COULD SLIDE FORWARD, CAUSING INJURY. I DO NOT USE MY GLOVE COMPARTMENT OFTEN SO IT IS NOT FROM WEAR AND TEAR. MY ISSUE IS THAT NOW THERE IS A HOLE IN MY GLOVE COMPARTMENT. IF SOMEONE WAS THINKING ABOUT BREAKING IN, THIS COULD BE THE DECIDING FACTOR FOR THEM KNOWING THAT THE GLOVE COMPARTMENT IS COMPLETELY ACCESSIBLE AND AT TIMES THERE ARE VALUABLES LOCATED IN COMPARTMENTS AS WELL AS TRIGGER SWITCHES TO TRUNKS AND IN SOME CASES EVEN SPARE KEYS TO THE CAR OR A PERSON'S HOME! I DO NOT HAVE ANY OF THOSE ITEMS IN THE COMPARTMENT, BUT SOMEONE COULD BE INTRIGUED ENOUGH TO TRY TO BREAK IN. ON MOST AUTOMOBILES, THIS IS A SIMPLE SWITCH BUILT INTO THE DOOR JAMB. BUT ON THIS POORLY ENGINEERED VEHICLE, IT'S BUILT INTO THE DOOR LATCH IN THE DOOR, RESULTING IN THE ENTIRE DOOR HAVING TO BE TAKEN APART TO GET TO THIS PART, A $250-350 REPAIR BILL. I CALLED 3 VW DEALERSHIPS TO GET ESTIMATES, AND ALL THREE SERVICE DEPARTMENTS TOLD ME WITHIN THE FIRST MINUTE ON THE PHONE WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS AND THAT IT WAS FAIRLY COMMON. THREE YEAR OLD VEHICLES SHOULD NOT HAVE THESE KINDS OF PROBLEMS, NOR SHOULD THIS MECHANISM HAVE EVER BEEN ENGINEERED INTO A PART THAT GETS SLAMMED SHUT REPEATEDLY DAY IN AND DAY OUT. AMAZING! DURING COLD WEATHER CONDITIONS BELOW 30 DEGREES F MY VEHICLE WOULD STOP RUNNING STRANDING ME AT NIGHT IN LOCATIONS WITH LITTLE ROAD TRAFFIC OR CELL PHONE SERVICE. THIS OCCURRED APPROXIMATELY 6 TIMES REQUIRING THE VEHICLE TO BE TOWED TO A DEALERSHIP. EACH TIME THAT THE VEHICLE WAS THAWED IN THEIR SHOP AND WAS DIAGNOSED WITH "IMPROPERLY TREATED DIESEL FUEL". I METICULOUSLY PUT IN THE RECOMMENDED AMOUNT OF VW ANTI-GEL ADDITIVE TO ALL TANK FULLS OF FUEL. CAR WILL STALL AT A 1/4 TANK OF GAS WHEN IN MOTION. IT WILL DO THIS AT ANY SPEED OR ON ANY ROAD GOING UPHILL OR DOWN HILL. HAVE PUT 3 NEW FUEL PUMPS IN CHANGED THE FUEL PUMP SOLENOID AND STILL HAVE THE PROBLEM. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR A YEAR NOW.

BOUGHT A 2001 VW JETTA 1.8T GLS WOLFSBURG THREE WEEKS AGO. RAINS HIT ME FOR THE FIRST TIME TODAY AND ALTHOUGH ALL DOOR SEALS ARE 100% PROPER, WATER LEAKS INTO DRIVER'S SIDE FOOTWELLS VIA HOOD LATCH RELEASE AS BEST I CAN TELL. FOUND THE CAR FLOODED WITH 1-2 INCHES OF WATER, SOAKED INTO CARPET AND CARPET PADDING. REPLACING THE CARPET AND PADDING WOULD COST AROUND 1500 DOLLARS. APPROXIMATELY 3 MONTHS AFTER PURCHASING MY 2001 JETTA, I NOTICED A CRAYON/WAX SMELL THROUGHOUT THE INTERIOR OF THE CAR. EVERY ONE OF MY PASSENGERS HAS COMMENTED ON THE PUNGENCY OF THE CRAYON SMELL. I PURCHASED A NEW 2001 TDI JETTA. I HAVE HAD THREE MASS AIR SENSORS REPLACED, TWO OF WHICH WERE COVERED UNDER MY EXTENDED WARRENTY AT APPROXIMATELY 37,000 MILES, THIS LAST ONE WAS NOT. VW REFUSED TO ASSIST WITH THE REPAIR. ALSO, A DEALER PREVIOUSLY TOLD ME BACK IN AUGUST 2002 THAT I NEEDED $700.00 WORTH OF GLOW PLUG SENSORS AND GLOW PLUGS. I HAD THEM REPLACE THE SENSOR FOR $400.00. THEY DID NOT HAVE THE GLOW PLUGS IN STOCK. INCIDENTLY MY CAR STARTED EVERY TIME THIS WINTER IN THE FREEZING COLD. IT TURNS OUT THAT THEY WERE NOT BAD AFTER ALL AND THAT I NEEDED A GLOW PLUG HARNESS FOR $118.00., WHICH I FOUND OUT LAST WEEK WHEN IT BROKE DOWN ON ME AGAIN. IF I HAD REPLACED THE PLUGS I WOULD HAVE WASTED ANOTHER $300.00. LAST WEEK MY CAR DISPLAYED THE SAME SYMPTOMS AS IT DID WHEN MY MASS AIR SENSOR FAILED THE FIRST TWO TIMES. I TOOK IT TO THE FIRST DEALER THAT I COULD GET IN TO AND THEY TOLD ME NEEDED TO CLEAN MY INTAKE MAINFOLD, REPLACE THE FUEL FILTER, AIR FILTER, GLOW PLUG HARNESS AND MASS AIR SENSOR FOR $1200.00. I UNDERSTAND THAT THEY HAVE TO VW HAS TO REPLACE GREATER THAN 50% OF THEIR MASS AIR SENSORS. WHY ARE THEY NOT RECALLED. I DRIVE 100 MILES TO WORK EACH WAY AND THIS CAR HAS BEEN AN EXPENSIVE LET DOWN. A DEFECT WITH MY RIGHT REAR WHEEL BEARING WAS DETECTED OVER TWO WEEKS AGO. IT IS FAULTY. MY CAR HAS 32000 MILES ON IT. I CONTACTED THE DEALER FOR ITS REPLACEMENT. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM, AND SAID IT SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER THE POWERTRAIN WARRANTY. HOWEVER, HE LATER CAME BACK AND SAID VOLKSWAGEN WOULD NOT COVER IT. I HAVE AN EXTENDED WARRANTY, BUT I AM BEING ASKED TO PAY THE DEDUCTIBLE. I WAS AT A FULL STOP AT A RED LIGHT WAITING TO CROSS A BUSY HIGHWAY WHEN SUDDENLY. AND WITHOUT WARNING, THE CAR STARTED ACCELERATING ON ITS OWN. MY FIRST REACTION WAS TO PUSH ON THE BRAKES HARDER. THIS DID NOTHING. THE CAR KEPT ACCELERATING TO SUCH A RATE THAT THE BACK END STARTED FISHTAILING AROUND TO THE RIGHT. I HAVE A CDL LICENSE AND REACTED BY PUTTING THE CAR INTO NEUTRAL. THIS REACTION DEFINITELY SAVED A MAJOR ACCIDENT. THE CAR WAS DOING ITS BEST TO FORCE ME INTO MOVING TRAFFIC. THE NEXT PERSON THIS HAPPENS TO MIGHT NOT BE SO LUCKY. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO THE LOCAL VW DEALERSHIP. AFTER KEEPING MY CAR 2 WEEKS, THEY STILL COULDN'T COME UP WITH A PLAUSIBLE EXPLANATION FOR WHY THIS HAPPENED. ON MY WAY TO AN APPOINTMENT 1 DAY LAST YR, I HAD MY AIR CONDITIONER ON THEN MY CAR STARTS OVERHEATING. I WAS PANICKING, I HAD NO IDEA WHAT TO DO, ESPECIALLY SINCE THIS WAS MY FIRST CAR. I BARELY GOT HER IN 2011 AND I'VE HAD ENDLESS PROBLEMS WITH HER. WHEN SHE RUNS GOOD, SHE RUNS GREAT BUT OHH WHEN SHE HAS PROBLEMS, SHE BRINGS YOU ABSOLUTE HELL. IT BEGAN AS A SLOW LEAK & ODDLY ENOUGH ONLY LEAKING SOMETIMES. WE TOOK MY JETTA TO A SHOP IN VALENCIA AND GOT THE HOSES AND THERMOSTAT REPLACED. WHATEVER REASON THE MECHANICS DID NOT NOTICE IT, OR NOTICED IT & WERE TRYING TO SQUEEZE MORE MONEY OUT OF ME WHILE THEY DID A TEMPORARY FIX. BARELY THIS YEAR I DISCOVERED THANKS TO MY HANDY MECHANICS SAVVY BOYFRIEND - THAT IT WAS MY WATER PUMP WHICH IS DEFECTIVE. 2 INJURIES OCCURRED TO MY BOYFRIEND THANKS TO THIS OVERHEATING PROBLEM. DRIVING ON THE FWY WE STOPPED TO PUT WATER (RELIGIOUSLY CARRYING 4 GALLONS OF WATER IN THE CAR AT ALL TIMES) IN 100* WEATHER W/ NO A/C & ME BEING SEVERELY HEAT INTOLERANT, MY BOYFRIEND TOOK OFF THE CAP TO THE RADIATOR. THAT'S WHEN BOILING HOT WATER EXPLODED ALL OVER HIM. LUCKILY I'M FIRST AID CERTIFIED AND HAD MY FIRST AID KIT HANDY & TENDED TO HIM. HE BEGAN TO BLISTER INSTANTANEOUSLY. THAT SAME INCIDENT OCCURRED AGAIN BUT WITH MY TEMP. GAUGE READING AT REGULAR TEMP. STILL EXPLODING ALL OVER HIM. I'VE EXPERIENCED SEVERAL PROBLEMS WITH MY 2001 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA GLX. I STILL WONDER WHY IT'S NOT A LEMON. HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE BRAKE SWITCH WHICH WAS A RECALL. I ALSO HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. TECHNICIANS MADE DIAGNOSTIC CHECK AND SAID I NEEDED THE HEAT SENSOR CHANGED SO I DID. AFTER A WEEK, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT LIT UP AGAIN SO I BROUGHT IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP AND HAD ANOTHER DIAGNOSTIC CHECK WHICH I PAID FOR AGAIN 78 BUCKS. THIS TIME THE TECH'S SAID I NEEDED THE SPARKS AND WIRES CHANGED BECAUSE IT WAS SHOOTING BLANKS. PRE-PAID FOR THE PARTS AND WHEN THE PARTS ARRIVED, I BROUGHT MY CAR BACK TO GET IT FIXED SO I DID. LATER, I GOT CALL FROM THE SERVICE REPS AND SAID MY IGNITION COIL BROKE SO THEY HAD TO ORDER THAT AGAIN. AFTER EVERYTHING WAS SAID AND DONE. MY 2001 VW JETTA JUST ROLLED 30000 ON THE ODOMETER. I HAVE HEARD THAT THERE ARE PROBLEMS WITH THE BRAKE PADS ON THE REAR OF THE CAR. I HAD TO PAY $350 TO GET THE PADS REPLACED AND GET THE ROTORS REFINISHED. I DON'T DRIVE THE CAR UNUSUALLY HARD AND DID NOT EXPECT THE BRAKES TO GO SO QUICKLY. WHILE DRIVING AROUND TOWN PRIOR TO HAVING A FEW DAYS OFF FOR THE 4TH, I NOTICED A SQUEAKY BELT NOISE WHEN I TURNED THE WHEEL. I CHECKED THE POWER STEERING FLUID LEVEL AND IT WAS ABOUT HALF FULL. I ADDED FLUID AND THE NOISE WENT AWAY. I SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT WITH THE DEALER FOR THE DAY AFTER THE HOLIDAY. THE NEXT DAY ON THE 4TH SMOKE STARTED TO COME FROM UNDER THE HOOD AND THE VEHICLE WAS NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO STEER. ADDING STEERING FLUID DID NOTHING SINCE IT SEEMED TO BE LEAKING OUT SOMEWHERE. I MANAGED TO GET THE CAR HOME AND IMMEDIATELY TOOK IT TO THE DEALER THE NEXT DAY. I ASSUMED IT WAS THE STEERING PUMP AND WAS NOT TOO CONCERNED. AFTER EXAMINING THE CAR THE DEALER FOUND THAT IN FACT THE STEERING RACK HAD BURNED OUT. I WAS QUOTED $2000 TO REPLACE THE STEERING RACK, TIRE ROD ENDS, AND POWER STEERING PUMP. MY SECOND OPTION SUGGESTED BY THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT WAS TO BUY A NEW CAR. I DEMANDED TO SPEAK WITH THE SHOP MANAGER WHO FEIGNED CONCERN AND INTEREST IN HELPING ME RESOLVE THE ISSUE. HE PASSED IT TO THE LOCAL REPRESENTATIVE WHO REFUSED TO DO ANYTHING BECAUSE OF THE MILEAGE. THE 2001 VW JETTA HAS HAD THREE O2 (OXYGEN) SENSOR FAILURES SINCE PURCHASE IN SEPTEMBER 2000. IN ADDITION HAVE EXPERIENCED THE NEED, ACCORDING TO DEALERSHIP, TO HAVE O2 SENSOR CLEANED, WHICH AGAIN CAUSED ENGINE LIGHT TO APPEAR. HAVE TALKED TO VW OF AMERICA, CLAIM MY JETTA IS NOT ONE OF THE CARS ISSUED AS A RECALL FOR THE O2 ISSUED ON 1/11/2002. YET IT IS A CONTINUAL PROBLEM. HAVE SPOKEN TO TWO VW MECHANICS. THEY CLAIM VW IS AWARE THEIR SUPPLIER OF THE PART HAS MANUFACTURED FAULTY O2 SENSORS, YET CONTINUE TO PURCHASE THESE PARTS. TALKED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC ON AN O2 NEEDING A 'CLEANING'. INDEPENDENT MECHANIC STATED THIS SHOULD NOT BE NECESSARY FOR ANY VEHICLE. MAKES ME WONDER IF THIS IS TO AVOID THE LEMON LAW -- LIST THE REPAIR AS A CLEANING INSTEAD OF REPLACEMENT. VW OF AMERICA HAS ISSUED ME A CASE NUMBER, YET VW FEELS THIS IS A DEALER PROBLEM NOT A CORPORATE PROBLEM. I STRONGLY DISAGREE, BASED ON HAVING AN O2 SENSOR FAIL FROM TWO VW DEALERSHIPS. REAR BRAKE PADS/ROTORS: PREMATURE WEAR, AT 25K. WENT TO DEALER THEY TOLD ME THAT IT WAS MY FAULT FOR USING THE BRAKES TOO MUCH AND THAT IT WAS GOING TO BE $650 FOR PARTS AND LABOR. WENT TO A MIDAS HAD THEM REPLACED FOR $250 AND WAS TOLD THERE THAT BRAKES SHOULD NOT WEAR OUT THAT SOON ON A NEW CAR.

CHECK OIL LIGHT CAME ON. AFTER CHECKING DIPSTICK FOUND THAT IT WAS COMPLETELY EMPTY. HERE I AM NOW IN 2011 AND THE WHEELS ARE DOING THE SAME THING AGAIN. AIR HAS NOT STARTED LEAKING YET BUT THE MARKS HAVE APPEARED. THE CONSUMER HAS HAD ON GOING PROBLEMS WITH THE MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR CONTINUALLY FAILING. THE SENSOR HAS BEEN REPLACED THREE TIMES. EACH TIME THE SENSOR FAILED THE VEHICLE LOST POWER. THE CONSUMER RECEIVED A LETTER FROM VW OF AMERICA WHICH EXTENDED THE WARRANTY OF THE SENSOR TO 7 YEARS OR 70000 MILES ON JETTA'S FROM 1999 TO 2001. THE FAILURE WAS THAT THE LOOSE SPARK PLUG WIDENED THE COMBUSTION CHAMBER AND THAT CAUSED THE LOUD VIBRATION IN THE ENGINE. IT ALSO AFFECTED THE FUNCTION OF THE BRAKING SYSTEM, TOO. SO, I WAS TOLD BY THE RIVERSIDE VW DEALERSHIP THAT THE WHOLE CHAMBER HAS TO BE REPLACED AT THE COST OF $5,400. THE RIVERSIDE DEALERSHIP MADE A CONTACT WITH NEW CENTURY DEALERSHIP IN GLENDALE, CA AND THEY DID THE TUNE-UP ON APRIL 5, 2004. IT WAS CLEARLY THE MECHANIC WHO DID NOT SCREW THE SPARK PLUG TIGHTLY. IT WAS THE HUMAN ERROR ON THE PART OF THE DEALERSHIP. I COULD NOT USE THE CAR DUE TO THIS UNNECESSARY ERROR THAT COULD BE PREVENTABLE. THE AIR COMING OUT OF MY 2001 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA'S AIR CONDITIONING UNIT STARTED TO SMELLING LIKE MELTED CRAYONS AND ENGINE FUMES. A FEW WEEKS LATER, THE AIR CONDITIONER BROKE DOWN, AND I TOOK IT TO GET REPAIRED AT DEEL VOLKSWAGEN IN MIAMI. I TOLD THE SERVICE AGENT THAT THE CAR ALSO HAD A TERRIBLE SMELL OF CAR FUMES AND TO PLEASE CHECK THAT. THE NEXT DAY, I RECEIVED A SERVICE REPAIR QUOTE FOR $1,300 THAT INCLUDED THE REPLACEMENT OF THE BATTERY FUSE BOX, MAIN FAN, A/C FAN AND FAN MODULE. THE PARTS WERE REPLACED IN THE CAR ON 10/22/2004. WHEN I PICKED UP THE CAR, I NOTICED THAT THE A/C HAD THE SAME ENGINE FUMES SMELL, AND TOLD THE SERVICE PERSON, RICARDO WILDER, THAT THE A/C STILL SMELLED THE SAME. HE TOLD ME THAT ALL JETTA'S SMELLED THE SAME, AND THAT I SHOULD DRIVE IT FOR SEVERAL WEEKS TO LET THE NEWLY REPLACED PARTS DO THEIR JOB. IT IS NOW APRIL, 2005 AND THE CAR STILL STRONGLY SMELLS LIKE ENGINE FUMES. AT THE END OF MY DRIVING DAY, MY CLOTHES AND THE INSIDE OF THEE CAR SMELL LIKE ENGINE FUMES. THIS SUMMER MY LEFT REAR DOOR BECAME INOPERABLE. IN LATE OCTOBER THE TURN SIGNALS BEGAN OPERATING INTERMITTENTLY. ON A COLD AND RAINY DAY THIS NOVEMBER MY 2001 JETTA WITH 37000 MILES STALLED WHILE MAKING A LEFT TURN. I RESTARTED AND COMPLETED MY TURN, THINKING I HAD JUST LET OUT THE CLUTCH TOO FAST. THE CAR WAS A BIT SLUGGISH AND A 1/2 MILE DOWN THE ROAD THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER ON NOVEMBER 30 AND WAS SHOCKED NOT ONLY AT THE PROBLEMS BUT THAT THEY WERE NOT COVERERED BY ANY WARRANTY. THE TOTAL REPAIR BILL WAS OVER $1000 DOLLARS. THE IGNITION COIL PACK NEEDS REPLACED FOR $740. THE HAZARD LIGHT SWITCH NEEDS REPLACED FOR $77. JUST TO FIND OUT WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE DOOR REQUIRES A CHARGE OF $188 DOLLARS. I HAVE A 2001 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA GLS VR6. IN APRIL OF 2003 I EXPERIENCED PROBLEMS WITH MY CAR WHERE ESPECIALLY IN WET CONDITIONS, THE CAR WOULD HESITATE AND MISFIRE THEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WOULD BLINK ON AND OFF. IT GOT TO THE POINT WHERE IT WAS DIFFICULT TO DRIVE BECAUSE IT WAS LOSING POWER. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY DIAGNOSED IT AS THE IGNITION COIL PACK WAS BAD. THEY EXPLAINED THAT THIS WAS AN EXPENSIVE PART AND THAT IT WOULD COST OVER $1300.00 TO REPAIR AND WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. I DID SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND THAT MANY SIMILAR VOLKSWAGENS WERE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEMS AND THE MANUFACTURER HAD A RECALL OUT ON THE COIL PACK. I CONTACTED VOLKSWAGEN AND THEY CLAIMED THAT MY ENGINE WAS NOT A PART OF THE RECALL BUT THAT THEY WOULD GIVE ME A COURTESY AND COVER THE COST OF THE REPAIRS. IN OCTOBER OF 2005 I BEGAN TO HAVE THE PROBLEM WITH MY CAR AGAIN. I BROUGHT IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP AND AGAIN THEY DIAGNOSED THAT MY IGNITION COIL PACK WAS BAD. I AGAIN DID RESEARCH AND READ SEVERAL ARTICLES ONLINE THAT VW WAS RECALLING THE COIL PACK FOR MY PARTICULAR MODEL. I CONTACTED VW AND THEY WOULD NOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT BECAUSE IN THEIR SYSTEM, MY CAR DIDN'T QUALIFY. I EXPLAINED THAT THERE HAS ONLY BEEN ABOUT 20,000 MILES PUT ON THE CAR SINCE THE LAST OCCURANCE AND TO NO AVAIL WOULD THEY HELP ME OUT. THEY SAY THAT BECAUSE OF THE AGE AND MILEAGE ON MY CAR THEY WOULD NOT DO ANOTHER COURTESY AND BECAUSE MY VIN NUMBER DOES NOT QUALIFY FOR THE COIL PACK RECALL, IT WILL NOT BE COVERED UNDER THE RECALL. I HAVE HAD SEVERAL OTHER FRIENDS WITH VW JETTAS THE SAME YEAR AS MINE AND THEY HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. WHY HASN'T VW LISTED MY CAR IN THE RECALL. (1) NORMAL DRIVING, REGULAR SCHEDULED DEALER MAINTAINANCE BEFORE THE FAILURE OF THE CLUTCH. THE MANUAL TRANSMISSION BECAME DIFFICULT TO PUT INTO GEAR AND NOISE STARTED TO COME FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. (2) CLUTCH FAILED AND IT BECAME VERY DIFFICULT TO ENGAGE TRANSMISSION. DEALER SERVICE ADVISOR RECOMMENDED LOOKING AT TRANSMISSION AND THEN DISCOVERED THAT THE CLUTCH HAD FAILED. IMMEDIATE DIAGNOSIS WAS THAT IT WAS DRIVER ERROR. LATER THAT DAY, AFTER EXAMINING THE PARTS THAT WERE REMOVED FROM THE CAR IT WAS REVEALED THAT THE SPRINGS OF THE CLUTCH PLATE HAD COME OUT OF THE METAL BRACKETS OF THE CLUTCH. DEALER CLAIMED THEY HAD ONLY SEEN THAT AS A RESULT OF MISUSE BUT DECIDED TO PARTIALLY WARRANTY THE PARTS AFTER DETERMINING THAT I HAD TAKEN EXCELLENT CARE OF THE CAR AND HAD EXHIBITED NO ABUSE OF THE VEHICLE. THIS FIRST INCIDENT TOOK PLACE WHEN THE CAR HAD 23K MILES ON THE ODOMETER AND I HAD OWNED THE VEHICLE SINCE IT WAS NEW. THE SECOND FAILURE WAS AT 73 K MILES IN MARCH OF 2005. THE SAME PARTS FAILED AND THE SAME DIAGNOSIS WAS MADE BY A DIFFERENT VW DEALERSHIP. THE CLUTCH FAILED IN THE SPRINGS BUT SHOWED NO OUTWARD SIGNS OF ABUSE OR EXCESSIVE WEAR. THE CLUTCH HAD APPROXIMATELY 50 K MILES OF USE BUT STILL HAD SIGNIFICANT MATERIAL LEFT ON THE CLUTCH PADS. THE FAILURE OF THE CLUTCH SPRINGS DAMAGED THE FLYWHEEL. AS RESULT I HAD TO PAY FOR A NEW FLYWHELEL, THROWOUT BEARING AND CLUTCH PLATE. AN APPEAL TO VW WAS REJECTED AND THEY SAID THAT THE DECISION WAS THE DEALERSHIP'S AND THAT THEY WOULD STAND BY THAT. I CONSIDER THIESE FAILURES TO BE CAUSED BY WEAK PARTS PROVIDED BY VW OF AMERICA. THIS SECOND FAILURE COST ME $1600.00 IN REPAIR COSTS.

CAR HAS JUST HAD THE SECOND TRANSMISSION PLACED IN LESS THAN 11,000 MILES. I HAVE HAD THIS CAR IN THE SHOP 17 TIMES LOSING IT EACH TIME AT THE LEAST FOR 2 DAYS AND AT THE MOST FOR A WEEK AND A HALF. THE DEALERSHIP AND VW REFUSE TO PROVIDE ANY TYPE OF ASSISTANCE WITH A RENTAL CAR LEAVING ME TO RELY ON OTHERS FOR TRANSPORTATION OR PAY HIGH RENTAL COSTS. EVERY TIME THE TRANSMISSION GOES OUT IT BEGINS TO SLIP WHEN GOING INTO GEARS AND POUNDS INTO GEARS OTHER TIMES. I HAVE ALSO REPLACED SEVERAL EMISSION SENSORS AND COMPLETELY REBUILT THE BACK BRAKE SYSTEM. THESE ARE JUST A FEW OF THE NUMEROUS PROBLEMS. SAFETY ISSUE WITH 2001 VW JETTA. *BF THE DRIVERS SIDE SEAT BECAME UNUSUALLY HOT THAN NORMAL AND THE INTERIOR LEATHER COVERING DEVELOPED A METALLIC APPEARANCE. A VW REPRESENTATIVE LOOKED AT THE SEAT AND STATED IT LOOKED LIKE EXTERNAL DAMAGED, BUT THE SEAT HAD TO BE FULLY INSPECTED FIRST. I BOUGHT THIS CAR USED IN 2003 AND HAD PROBLEMS WITH IT SINCE. ESC LIGHT COMES ON ALL THE TIME. REPLACED IGNITION COILS, MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR, OXYGEN SENSOR, AND SPARK PLUGS MULTIPLES TIMES TO TRY AND FIX THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT THAT KEEPS COMING BACK ON. IT KEEPS SPITTING OUT RANDOM CYLINDER MISFIRE CODES. PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW BROKE. THE ARM REST HINGE BROKE. THE GLOVE COMPARTMENT HINGE BROKE. BRAKE LIGHTS NEED REPLACING CONSTANTLY. WATER PUMP BROKE WHILE DRIVING IN THE MIDDLE OF FREEWAY AND THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE SHOT THROUGH THE ROOF. A RANDOM TUBE/HOSE IN THE ENGINE BROKE. TRANSMISSION PROBLEM, COULD NOT SHIFT FROM PARK TO DRIVE. INTERIOR CABIN SMELLS LIKE CRAYON. VERY ROUGH IDLE, NEED TO WARM UP THE CAR FOR AT LEAST 5 MINS EVERY MORNING OR ELSE THE CAR WILL STALL. THE VW JETTA VR6 2001 THAT I PURCHASED LAST YEAR FOR $7,000 (FINANCING THROUGH MY CREDIT UNION) IS A LEMON. I HAVE HAD IT LESS THAN A YEAR AND ALREADY SPENT $2000 ON MINOR REPAIRS AND I ESTIMATE THAT RIGHT NOW IT NEEDS ABOUT $4000 MORE IN THE NEXT FEW MONTHS. I BELIEVE THAT SUNDANCE IMPROPERLY SOLD THIS CAR, KNOWING THAT A MASSIVE AMOUNT OF THINGS ARE WRONG WITH IT. I OWN A 2001 VW JETTA. I BOUGHT IT 3 YEARS AGO, USED FROM THE VOLKSWAGEN DEALERSHIP. THE AUTOMOBILE WAS SOLD AS A "CERTIFIED" AUTO, WHICH I FOUND OUT LATER DOES NOT MEAN MUCH. MY TRUNK IS LOCKED SHUT AND DOES NOT OPEN MANUALLY OR WITH REMOTE, I'VE HAD TO REPLACE CV BOOTS, CATALYTIC CONVERTER, TRANSMISSION AND NUMEROUS HEADLIGHT, TAILLIGHT AND BLINKER BULBS. AND TODAY ONE OF MY HEADLIGHTS IS SO DIM, IT DOESN'T REALLY PROVIDE ANY LIGHT WHEN IT IS DARK. I HAVE REPLACED IT AND REPLACED IT. IT STAYS FINE FOR ABOUT 2 DAYS AND THEN JUST DIMS OUT AGAIN. WE PURCHASED OUR 2001 JETTA 1.8L TURBO WOLFSBURG EDITION IN JAN OF 2003 FROM A CERTIFIED USED VW DEALER. WHEN WE DROVE OFF THE LOT, NOT 5 MINUTES LATER, THE TURBO SEEMED TO FAIL AND WE BEGAN TO LOSE POWER, EPC LIGHT CAME ON, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. WE IMMEDIATELY TOOK CAR BACK TO DEALER AND THEY FIXED PROBLEM. EVERYTHING RAN FINE UNTIL SEPT 2003 OUR CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, SHORTLY AFTER WE RECEIVED NOTICE THAT THERE HAD BEEN A RECALL REGARDING IGNITION COILS. WE TOOK OUR VEHICLE TO A LOCAL DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY REPLACED THE COILS FREE OF CHARGE. THIS SOLVED THE LIGHT ISSUE FOR A COUPLE OF MONTHS, THEN IT CAME BACK ON AGAIN, THIS TIME WHEN IDLING FLUCTUATING BETWEEN 700 RPM AND ABOUT 1500 RPM AND STALLING ON OCCASION. WE TOOK THE CAR TO A LOCAL GARAGE AND THEY RAN A DIAGNOSTICS, CLEARED THE FAILURES TO SEE IF THAT SOLVED THE PROBLEM, WHICH IT DID TEMPORARILY...EVER SINCE WE HAVE BEEN RUNNING DIAGNOSTICS TRYING TO DETERMINE WHY OUR CHECK ENGINE LIGHT KEEPS COMING ON, EACH TIME THE PROBLEM IS TEMPORARILY SOLVED. AT FIRST THE MECHANIC THOUGHT IT WAS THE AIRFLOW SENSOR, BUT ONCE THEY LOOKED CLOSER DETERMINED IT WAS A DIFFERENT PROBLEM. WE HAVE HAD CORROSION REMOVED, CONNECTIONS CLEANED, AND OUR LAMBDA SENSOR REPLACED. NOW OUR CAR CONTINUES TO RUN AND IDLE POORLY AND SPORADICALLY, THE CAR STALLS WHEN YOU SLOW, THE TURBO WORKS ON OCCASION, LOSSES POWER WHEN ACCELERATING, WHEN CAR FIRST STARTS IT BARELY MOVES WITH ACCELERATOR FLOORED, BRAKES ARE VERY SLUGGISH, SOMETIMES REALLY HAVING TO PUSH TO GET CAR TO STOP. NO ONE SEEMS TO KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM IS. EVERYTIME WE TAKE IT IN MULTIPLE ERRORS POP UP, LAST TIME THERE WAS 17 FAULT CODES, MECHANIC KEEPS GOING DOWN THE LIST OF WHAT TO CHECK HOPING TO FIND THE PROBLEM. THE BILL JUST KEEPS GETTING BIGGER AND NOTHING HAS BEEN SOLVED. RECENTLY THINK THAT THE ORIGINAL ISSUE AND CURRENT ISSUES ARE ONE IN THE SAME AS SYMPTOMS ARE BECOMING MORE SIMILAR. HELP! *NM

I HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT ISSUES WITH MY 2001 JETTA. I HAVE REPLACED ALL THE WHEEL BEARINGS AND THE FRONT BEARING TWICE. I HAVE ALSO HAD TO REPLACE THE ENGINE COILS TWICE ON THIS CAR. NOW IN THE LAST 2-3 WEEKS THE CLEAR COAT HAS STARTED TO PEEL OFF THE CAR. THE PAINT IS NOT COMING OFF JUST THE CLEAR COAT. I CALLED THE VW CARE CENTER AND THEY RAN ME AROUND HAVING ME TAKE THE CAR TO A VW BODY SHOP, AND HAVING THE SERVICE MANAGER LOOK AT IT AND NEITHER ONE OF THEM COULD TELL ME WHY THE CLEAR COAT WAS PEELING. THEY BOTH DID RESPOND BY SAYING THE COULD BE SURE BUT IN MAY HAVE BEEN OVER BAKED AT THE FACTORY AFTER IT WAS PAINTED BUT OF COURSE NOBODY WANT TO ADMIT THAT BECAUSE THEN VW WOULD BE LIABLE TO FIX IT. SO IN CALLING THE VW CARE CENTER BACK THE PRETTY MUCH TOLD ME THE CAR WAS 5 YEAR OLD AND IT WASN'T THEIR PROBLEM ANY MORE BUT MINE. GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE. I'VE OWNED OTHER CARS AND NEVER HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE CLEAR COAT. GRANTED THEY WERE NOT VW CARS. I RECOMMEND NOT TO BUY A VW OF ANY KIND BECAUSE THIS COMPANY WILL NOT STAND BY THEIR FAULT. DT*: THE CONTACT STATED UPON INSPECTION, IT WAS NOTICED THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH WAS INOPERABLE. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH AND DETERMINED THERE WAS A NHTSA RECALL, # 06V183000, REGARDING THE EXTERIOR LIGHTING BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH. THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALERTED. UPDATED 6/27/2006 - THE SWITCH WAS REPLACED BY THE ORIGINAL OWNER UNDER RECALL ON 4/26/05 WITH 44653 MILES. THE REPLACEMENT SWITCH FAILED ONE YEAR LATER AT 52675 MILES. THE COOLANT PUMP FAILED AND CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO OVERHEAT. THE FRONT WOOFER IN THE DOOR FAILED INTERNALLY CAUSING THE SOUND TO BE DISTORTED. *NM

82,5310.00 JUST REPLACED THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER. WE HAVE ALWAYS HAD SOME TYPE OF AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM FROM THE BEGINNING. CD PLAYER AND STEREO. CD LCD PANEL WOULD SAY NO CD IN WHICH YOU WOULD HAVE A CD IN THE JACKET IF YOU KEPT PUSHING THE BUTTON SOMETIMES IT WOULD WORK. AT TIMES YOU CAN ONLY READ HALF THE CALL LETTERS FOR STATIONS. DT: CONTACT STATES THE DRIVERS' SIDE CURTAIN AIR BAGS DEPLOYED WITHOUT A COLLISION. THE SEAT BELT JAMMED AND COULD NOT BE LATCHED AFTER THIS INCIDENT OCCURRED. THERE IS A POLICE REPORT (#05-5207) STATES THERE WAS NO EVIDENCE THAT THE VEHICLE HAD AN IMPACT. THE AIR BAG LIGHT WAS NOT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A SERVICE DEALER AND TOLD TO CONTACT VW OF AMERICA. SHE DID FAX THE POLICE REPORT TO THE MANUFACTURER AND THEY AGREED TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE WITHOUT COST. EARLIER THIS YEAR, THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH ON MY 2001 VW JETTA. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THIS. HOWEVER, WITHIN THE LAST MONTH, THE AUTOMATIC SHIFT LOCK (ASL) HAS NOT ALLOWED ME TO SHIFT OUT OF PARK ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. USUALLY, I AM ABLE TO WAIT A MINUTE AND THE ASL LIGHT WILL GO OFF, OR I TURN OFF THE CAR OR FIDDLE WITH THE STEERING WHEEL. HOWEVER, THREE TIMES THIS PAST WEEK I HAVE GOTTEN STUCK AND HAVE HAD TO ABANDON THE CAR TEMPORARILY. THE LAST TIME, I WAS FINALLY ABLE TO GET IT OUT OF PARK AND DRIVE IT TO MY LOCAL MECHANIC (I HAD AN APPOINTMENT WITH MY DEALERSHIP, BUT I COULDN'T GET IN FOR A WEEK). HE NOTICED THAT MY BRAKE LIGHTS WERE OUT AGAIN, AND BELIEVES THAT THE BRAKE LIGHT MALFUNCTION MAY BE RELATED TO THE ASL MALFUNCTION. THIS MAY EXPLAIN WHY THE ELECTRONIC POWER CONTROL (EPC) LIGHT TURNS ON WHENEVER THE ASL LIGHT TURNS ON, AS IT INDICATES A PROBLEM IN THE ELECTRONICS. I SIGNALED WITH MY RIGHT TURN SIGNAL FOR A RIGHT-HAND TURN, SUDDENLY THE TURN SIGNAL STOPPED FLASHING (NOT THE QUICK FLASHING & CLICKING FOR A BURNT OUT BULB), THE LIGHT STAYED ON. TRIED THE LEFT TURN SIGNAL AND THE SAME THING HAPPENED. KEPT TRYING THEM AND WOULD NOT WORK. SUDDENLY BEGAN OPERATING. THE HAZARD LIGHTS DID NOT WORK EITHER. AFTER REPEATED ATTEMPTS, THE LIGHTS UNEXPECTEDLY BEGAN WORKING. I CONTINUED DRIVING, WHEN I SIGNALED ANOTHER RIGHT-HAND TURN THE AGAIN THE SIGNAL REPEATED THE PREVIOUS FAILURE. I IMMEDIATELY CONTACTED THE AUTO REPAIR SHOP THAT I USE AND SETUP AN APPOINTMENT FOR SERVICE THREE DAYS LATER. THE PROBLEM OCCURRED INTERMITTENLY BETWEEN THE FIRST OCCURRANCE AND THE SERVICE APPOINTMENT. THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM IMMEDIATELY BUT THE HEADLAMPS WOULD NOT GO TO BRIGHT. HE DID EVENTUALLY HAVE THE PROBLEM WITH THE TURN SIGNALS. THE END RESULT WAS TO REPLACE THE SWITCH: HEADLAM DIMMER/TURN SIGNAL/CRUISE SWITCH 8L0953513J01C (PART #). THIS IS AN INTEGRATED SWITCH. I HAVE LISTED THE THREE COMPONENTS SEPARATELY ON THE COMPLAINT LIST. THIS SAME SHOP HAD CHANGED THE SAME SWITCH ON AN AUDI. I DO NOT KNOW IF THE REPLACED PART WOULD STILL BE AVAILABLE.

THE DEALER REFUSED TO REPAIR THEM AT NO COST TO ME DUE TO THE PREMATURE WEAR OF THE BRAKE PADS. THE REPAIRS TO THE BRAKE PADS COST ME $200.00. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAS COME ON ON THE SAME VW JETTA. TO FIND OUT I KNOW HAVE TO PAY $292.20 TO HAVE THE MAF SENSOR REPLACED ON A CAR THAT HAS ONLY 22,500 MILES. I AM TRYING TO SEEK REIMBURSEMENT FROM VW OF AMERICA FOR THESE EXPENSES. I HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS AFTER PURCHASING MY BRAND NEW 2001 V.W JETTA. I HAD VEHICLE ONLY 6 MONTHS AND IT LEFT ME STRANDED DUE TO MALFUNCTION OF EMISSION CONTROL SENSOR. 5 MONTHS AFTER THAT, IGNITION LOCK CYLINDER WAS INOPERABLE, NEEDING THEM TO REPAIR. 2 MONTHS LATER, OWNED FOR 1 YR 1 MONTH, CAR WAS BURNING A LOT OF OIL SO CONSUMPTION TEST WAS DONE AND DETERMINED TO BE TRUE,THAT THE CAR WAS IN FACT CONSUMING ABNORMAL AMOUNT OF OIL. AS "A COURTESY TO ME, THE CUSTOMER" VOLKSWAGEN REPLACED PISTON RINGS, ROD BEARINGS AND DEGLAZED CYLYNDER WALLS. THEY HAD MY CAR 6 DAYS TO REBUILD ENGINE. 6 MONTHS LATER CAR WAS SHAKING REALLY BAD WHEN DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY, TOOK IT IN AND SERVICE TECHNITION DISCOVERED THAT REAR BRAKES WERE WARPED AND REAR BRAKE PADS HAD "PREMATURE WEAR." THOSE WERE REPLACED. THROUGHOUT THIS COURSE OF TIME THE PASSENGER BRAKE LIGHT HAD BEEN REPLACE 2 TIMES,AIR CONDITION VENT WAS NOT WORKING AND HAD TO BE REMOVE AND INSTALL NEW CENTER AIR OUTLET,ARMREST BROKE AND HAD TO BE REPLACED, GLOVE COMPARTMENT LATCH BROKE, AND THE BRAKE LIGHTS HAVE GONE OUT AND BEEN REPAIRED NUMEROUS TIMES BUT ARE STILL FAULTY,NOT WORKING AT THIS TIME. MY SPEEDOMETER STARTED BOUNCING UP AND DOWN. ONE SECOND IT WOULD REGISTER 25MPH THE NEXT IT WOULD REGISTER 100MPH. IT WOULD DO THAT FREQUENTLY. THE FUEL GAUGE ACTED FUNNY AS WELL. IT WOULD MOVE LEFT AND RIGHT. FINALLY THE SPEEDOMETER STOPPED WORKING COMPLETELY. THE FUEL GAUGE WORKS OK NOW. I HAVE READ ABOUT WHAT THE PROBLEM IS. THE COOLANT MIGRATION SYSTEM IS FAULTY. THE COOLANT BOTTLE LEAKS FLUID ONTO THE ELECTRICAL WIRING HARNESS WHICH IN TURN ACTS AS A VACUUM AND THE COOLANT MAKES ITS WAY ALL THE WAY TO THE ECM. AFTER IT REACHES THE ECM IT MAKES ALL THE ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS ACT FUNNY. THIS COULD BE DANGEROUS CONSIDERING IT MAY BE THE CAUSE OF AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT WHICH I HAVE HEARD. SINCE I HAVE HAD MY JETTA I HAVE HAD TO KEEP OIL IN THE TRUNK BECAUSE THE CAR BURNS OIL, I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALER THAT IT IS NORMAL FOR A CAR TO USE THAT MUCH OIL, I HAVE HAD TO HAVE THE BRAKE SWITCH REPLACED, THE ARM REST LATCH REPLACED, CD PLAYER REPLACED TWICE, MY PASSENGER REAR BRAKE LIGHTS BURN OUT REGULARLY (ONLY PASSENGER SIDE), MY KEY IN THE IGNITION ALARM AND LIGHTS LEFT ON ALARM TURNED AND STAYED ON EVERYTIME I DROVE MY CAR. THE DEALER'S SOLUTION TO ALL THESE PROBLEMS WAS TO DOWNGRADE MY CAR AND BUY A VW BEETLE. I PURCHASED A 2002 USED BEETLE - DEALER ALLOWED ME TAKE CAR AND PROMISED TO FIX ANYTHING ON THE FOLLOWING MONDAY. THERE WAS A LIGHT ON THE DASH THAT WAS LIT UP CALLED EPC - I ASKED THE DEALER WHAT THE LIGHT WAS FOR AND THEY SAID THAT THE ALIGNMENT NEEDED TO BE ADJUSTED NO BIG DEAL THEY WOULD FIX IT WHEN I RETURNED ON MONDAY. I DROVE THE CAR OFF THE LOT GOT ABOUT 20 MILES FOR THE DEALERSHIP AND THE CAR DIED ON THE FREEWAY!!!!! WHILE WAITING FOR THE TOW TRUCK I READ IN THE CAR MANUAL THAT EPC STOOD FOR ELECTRIC POWER CONTROL - IT SAID IF THIS LIGHT GOES ON DO NOT ATTEMPT TO DRIVE - TOW TO DEALERSHIP IMMEDIATELY - AFTER THAT I MARCHED RIGHT BACK TO THE DEALER AND GOT MY JETTA BACK - HOWEVER I STILL HAVE ALL OF THE ABOVE PROBLEMS AND FEW TO ADD TO THE LIST DEFECTIVE ELECTRIC WINDOW, NOISY BRAKES WHEN IN REVERSE EVEN AFTER BRAKES WERE REPLACED. I PURCHASE A 2001 JETTA NEW AND IN ABOUT 3 YRS I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH TWICE FOR AN AVERAGE LIFE EXPECTANCE OF 19 MONTHS. TALKING WITH THE DEALER, I WAS INVORMED THAT THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH BASE NO AVAILABLE SEVERAL MONTHS AGO AND IS NOW STARTING TO BECOME AVAILABLE AGAIN. CURRENTLY MY MECHANIC HAS FOUND ONLY 1 BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH ON THE EAST COAST. HE HAS CALL THE LOCAL DEALERS IN A 100 MILE RADIUS AND THEY DO NOT HAVE ANY, CONTACTED VW REGIONAL AND THEY DO NOT HAVE ANY. INTERESTED TO KNOW IF OTHERS ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. I AM NOT SATISFIED WITH MY 2001 JETTA. ONE WEEK AFTER I PURCHASED THE CAR IN AUG 2001 THE PASSENGER AND DRIVER SIDE SEATS STARTED TO MOVE EVERYTIME I STEPPED ON THE BRAKE. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID NOTHING WAS WRONG. A FEW MONTHS LATER I NOTICED THAT FLOOR PADDING ON THE BACK SEAT AREA (BOTH SIDES) STARTED BULGING. THE DEALERSHIP INDICATED THAT IS NORMAL FOR ALL 2001 JETTAS. I HAVE SEVERAL FRIENDS WHO DRIVES VW AND THEY NEVER HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THEIR FLOOR PADDINGS. A FEW MONTHS LATER, THE WINDOW ON THE DRIVER SIDE BROKE. ALL IN ALL MY DRIVER SIDE AND PASSENGER SIDE WINDOWS HAVE MALFUNCTIONED 5 TIMES. IN ADDITION TO ALL THESE PROBLEMS, THE TEMP GAUGE ALSO MALFUNCTIONED. THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE WOULD MOVE FROM EXTREMENME HEAT TEMP TOCOLD TEM AND VICE VERSA. WHAT UPSET ME IS THAT THERE ARE TWO CURRENT RECALLS FOR 2001 JETTAS AND I HAVENT HEARD FROM VW. I WASN'T EVEN INFORMED ABOUT THE WINDOW REGULATOR PROBLEM.

MY CAR WHICH WAS PURCHASED BRAND NEW IN JULY 2001 HAS BEEN TO THE REPAIR SHOP 13 TIMES. I PURCHASED A 2001 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA. THE ONGOING PROBLEM IS THAT THE CAR IS LOSING POWER WHILE ACCELERATING. VOLKSWAGEN DOESN'T WANT TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE DEFECT OF THEIR OWN PRODUCT. I WAS TOLD TWO THINGS WHICH DOESN'T MAKE SENSE TO ME. FIRST, I WAS TOLD MY ENGINE IS NOT APART OF THE RECALL FOR THOSE OTHER VW CARS THAT ARE LOSING POWER. SECOND, A VW REPRESENTATIVE TOLD ME IT WAS MY EXTRA CAR MATS THAT IS PROBABLY CAUSING THE PROBLEM. I THINK VOLKSWAGEN IS JUST IGNORING THIS SERIOUS PROBLEM. IF MY CAR SLOWS DOWN ON ME WHENEVER IT WANTS AND I DIE AS A RESULT OF THEIR DEFECT PRODUCT THAT THEY DON'T WANT TO RECOGNIZE, IT IS TRULY GOING TO BE A SERIOUS PROBLEM. THE CAR HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE ENGINE, AIRBAGS, MALFUNCTIONED SENSOR, CLOCK SPRING, HARNESS, AND NOW IT IS LOSING POWER. ALTHOUGH THIS CAR HAS HAD NUMEROUS PROBLEMS, THIS IS THE MOST SERIOUS PROBLEM THAT I WOULD LIKE O BE RECTIFIED. VOLKSWAGEN SERVICE DEPARTMENT CHANGED THE COMPUTER AND TOLD ME THIS WILL DEFINITELY SOLVE THE PROBLEM. OBVIOUSLY IT DID NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM. BACK BRAKES AND ROTORS HAD TO BE REPLACED ON MY 2001 JETTA GLX V6 WHICH WAS PURCHASED 08/01. I ONLY HAD 23,000 MILES ON THE CAR! AT MY 20,000 MILE SERVICE NO PROBLEMS WERE MENTIONED. MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON TOO. I HAD TO HAVE MY O2 SENSOR REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. THE WARRANTY DID NOT COVER THE BRAKES. I DO NOT RIDE THE BRAKES. 1 MONTH AFTER I BOUGHT THE CAR I NOTICED THAT WHEN I START IT IN THE MORNING IT MAKES A SOUND LIKE AND OLD JUNKY CAR WOULD. I HAD IT TO THE DEALER TWICE FOR THIS AND THEY SAID ITS NOTHING AND THAT'S THE WAY A V6 SOUNDS! IT ONLY DOES IT ON THE FIRST START OF THE DAY. I AM AFRAID IT WILL END UP BEING SOME VERY EXPENSIVE PROBLEM IN THE FUTURE. 9 MONTHS AFTER I HAD THE CAR THE ARM REST CAME APART AND HAD TO BE FIXED UNDER WARRANTY. I HAVE HAD TROUBLE WITH THIS JETTA FROM THE FIRST DAY I TOOK OWNERSHIP OF THE VEHICLE. THE BRAKE ASSEMBLY HAS BEEN REPLACED. THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH HAS BEEN REPLACED. NOW I HAVE JUST RECEIVED A NEW TRANSMISSION IN MY TEN MONTH OLD CAR. THE CAR'S TRANSMISSION WAS RESET THREE TIMES BEFORE VOLKSWAGEN REPLACED THE VALVE BODY. THIS PROCEDURE DID NOT WORK AND IN TURN ENDANGERED MY LIFE. I WAS TRYING TO GET ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN THE CAR WOULD NOT SHIFT AND WAS SHUDDERING. I WAS ALMOST HIT BY AN ONCOMING 18 WHEELED TRUCK. HERE WE ARE A WEEK LATER AND THE LIGHT IS BACK ON AND IT'S BACK IN THE SHOP AGAIN. MEANWHILE I AM ON PROBATION AT MY NEW JOB AND AM HAVING TO TAKE CONSIDERABLE TIME OFF DUE TO THESE REPAIRS. I AM STILL ON PROBATION AT THIS JOB AND I HAVE ALSO MISSED OUT ON THE OPPORTUNITY OF OVERTIME BECAUSE OF CONTINUAL TRIPS TO THE DEALORS SHOPS. CAR WAS PARKED ON NEAR-LEVEL SURFACE OF DRIVEWAY. CAR WAS LEFT IN NEUTRAL (MANUAL TRANSMISSION) AND PARKING BRAKE WAS SET. DOORS WERE LOCKED. CAR BEGAN TO ROLL 165 FEET DOWN DRIVEWAY ABOUT 20 MINUTES AFTER USE. CAR RESTED IN A FENCE POST. DEALER CLAIMS THAT CAR SHOULD BE LEFT IN GEAR BECAUSE THE PARKING BRAKE SYSTEM ON THIS CAR IS HYDRAULIC, AND WHILE THE CAR IS DRIVEN, THE REAR DISC BRAKES HEAT UP, AND WHEN THE CAR IS PARKED, THE BRAKES COOL DOWN. THE SAME BRAKES THAT COOL DOWN ARE THE SAME BRAKES THAT HEAT UP. WHEN A BRAKE PAD HEATS UP, IT EXPANDS, WHEN IT COOLS DOWN, IT CONTRACTS. MY PARKING BRAKES FAILED BECAUSE THEY COOLED OFF AND BECAME INOPERABLE, CAUSING THE CAR TO ROLL ALL ON ITS OWN. SAYS THAT FAILURE MUST BE VERRIFIED BY SOME ONE WHO IS ON VACATION, WILL BE GONE WEEK. MONTGOMERY VW IN ELIZABETHTOWN KY, SERVICE MANAGER REPORTED THAT IT WAS A STRESS CRACK, AND THAT SHOULD NOT BE DRIVEN AS UNSAFE, DEALER WILL NOT SUPPLY REPLACEMENT AUTO, OR ANYTHING TILL INSPECTION, ALL THIS TIME I AM WITHOUT A NEW AUTO.
