THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO LAKE CITY CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP RAM (4325 W US HWY 90, LAKE CITY, FL 32055, (386) 755-3444) TO VERIFY THE DIAGNOSIS. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS ON THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 164,297.

WE TOOK THE VEHICLE WAS TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR A FRONT END ALIGNMENT. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE TOP AND BOTTOM BALL JOINTS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. IN ADDITION, THE VEHICLE WAS UNABLE TO BE ALIGNED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED.

WHILE DRIVING TO WORK ON SECONDARY ROADS AT APPROX 30MPH, ENGINE SMOKED, SEIZED, OVER-HEATED, BUCKED AND FAILED. HAD IT TOWED AND MECHANIC IMMEDIATELY NOTICED SLUDGE AROUND TOP OF SOME GASKET. BEFORE FURTHER INSPECTION, HE SAID IMMEDIATELY THAT IT WAS NOT A GOOD SIGN AT ALL AND MOST LIKELY WOULD NEED NEW ENGINE. I WAS SHOCKED AS THIS TRUCK IS OUR SECONDARY VEHICLE AND HAS ONLY BEEN DRIVEN APPROX 20,000 MILES IN 3 YEARS WITH REGULAR OIL CHANGES AND NO ISSUES WHATSOEVER! NO INDICATION WAS GIVEN VIA WARNING LIGHTS OF ANY ISSUES NOR WAS THERE ANY CHANGE IN HOW IT DROVE IMMEDIATELY PRIOR TO SEIZING. AFTER A DAY, THE MECHANIC CONFIRMED IT NEEDED TOTAL ENGINE REPLACEMENT. WE ASSUMED WE WERE BEING TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF AND HAD IT TOWED TO ANOTHER REPAIR PLACE, WHO ONLY WENT ON TO SAY THE SAME: NEW ENGINE NEEDED! AFTER RESEARCHING THIS ON-LINE IT SEEMS THAT MANY OF THIS MAKE AND MODEL HAVE HAD ISSUES WITH THIS, YET THERE IS NO RECOURSE WITH THE MANUFACTURER. WE WERE OWNERS OF A 1999 DODGE DURANGO PRIOR TO THIS AND THAT VEHICLE ALSO NEEDED TOTAL ENGINE REPLACEMENT AFTER 60 DAYS BUT THANKFULLY IT WAS COVERED THROUGH THE DEALERSHIP. WE ARE NO LONGER UNDER ANY TYPE OF WARRANTY AND SINCE THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE, WE FEEL THAT DAIMLER CHRYSLER SHOULD RECOGNIZE THIS KNOWN ISSUE BASED ON THE AMOUNT OF COMPLAINTS THERE IS REGARDING THIS! NOT ONLY WILL WE BE ABANDONING THIS VEHICLE, AS WE ARE TOLD THAT IF WE REPLACE THE ENGINE FOR APPROX $4000 IT WILL MORE THAN LIKELY HAPPEN AGAIN, BUT WE WILL NEVER, EVER PURCHASE A VEHICLE THROUGH THIS MANUFACTURER AGAIN! The contact owns a 2003 Dodge Durango. The contact stated that the battery had been replaced after being drained due to an unknown electrical failure. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, the alarm would inadvertently sound while the vehicle was turned off. Additionally, the lights would flash on and off intermittently. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle lost motive power. The contact stated that she was able to restart the vehicle however, the vehicle would only restart while in Neutral. The local dealer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle would be an out of pocket expense. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 110,000.

CHIEF COMPLAINT: PURCHASED VEHICLE USED WITH APPROX. 30,000 MILES ON IT. HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING ENGINE/ELECTRICAL ISSUES WHICH REQUIRE ME TO CHANGE SPARK PLUGS AND ENGINE COILS ABOUT EVERY 50,000 MILES. I HAVE DONE THIS THREE TIME IN THE LAST SIX YEARS COSTING ME ABOUT 900+ EACH VISIT. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO SEVERAL DIFFERENT MECHANICS FOR OPINIONS. I RECENTLY STARTED GETTING MISFIRING AGAIN. REPAIRED AGAIN ONE AT A TIME AS WELL AS SOME SPONTANEOUS OCCURRENCES THAT WERE VERY FRIGHTENING. FOR EXAMPLE: WIND SHIELD WIPERS GOING CRAZY, LIGHTS BLINKING, DOORS LOCKING AND UNLOCKING, WINDOWS ROLLING THEM SELVES DOWN AT NIGHT, HORN BLARING WHEN TURNING ON HEAD LIGHTS, AND THE BEST ONE RANDOM SMALL ACCELERATION WHILE DRIVING. I HAVE BEEN TOLD I HAVE A FAULTY TIPM. THE DEALERSHIP WILL NOT TAKE ANY RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS VEHICLE DUE TO IT BEING ON YEAR OUT OF THE DOCUMENTED RECALL YEAR. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS. SOMETHING SHOULD BE MADE RIGHT.

WIFE STARTED THE TRUCK THIS MORNING AND HAD THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS GOING AND TURNED ON THE HEADLIGHTS BEFORE BACKING UP. THE HEADLIGHTS STARTED FLASHING AND INTERIOR LIGHTS ALONG WITH THE LIGHTS IN THE DASH WERE ALL FLASHING AND GOING CRAZY. I HAD MY WIFE TURN OFF THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS AND RETURNED TO NORMAL. RESEARCH ON ALL THE FORUMS SAYS ITS THE "CTM" CENTRAL TIMER MODULE. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD IT WOULD COST $520. JUST FOR THE PART AND THAT DIDN'T INCLUDE ANY LABOR. THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE AND SOME MODELS DO HAVE A RECALL FOR THIS VERY THING BUT MY VIN WAS EXCLUDED.

THIS COMPANY CLAIMS TO SELL CHRYSLER FLUID THAT WHICH ALMOST KILLED MY DRIVER AND ME BECAUSE OF MY DISABILITIES AND OTHER ISSUES AND FOR USING DEXRON FLUID IN THEIR PRODUCT. THEY ARE ADVERTISING THIS TO OTHER CHRYSLER OWNERS. I HAVE RESEARCH AND LOCATE A FEW DOCUMENTS WHERE THIS COMPANY MISLEAD ME AND USED DEXRON INSTEAD OF CHRYSLER FLUID ATF4 WHICH COMPLETELY DIFFERENT DEXRON. TRANSTAR TRIED TO PASS THE BLAME WHEN MY 2003 DURANGO WAS WORKING PERFECTLY UNTIL USING THEIR FLUID WHICH CAUSE MY TRANSMISSION TO OVERHEAT AND DESTROY IT. I ONLY ASKING THEM FOR FILTER. THIS PART IS DEFECTIVE IN THAT IT BREAKS IRREGARDLESS OF USAGE, TODAY A REAR WINDOW BROKE WHICH HAS MAYBE BEEN USED A DOZEN TIMES SINCE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6) OWNERS OF 1999-2003 DODGE DURANGO OWNERS ARE REPORTING A PROBLEM WITH THE FRONT POWER SEATS. MANY OWNERS EXPERIENCE A "ROCKING BACK AND FORTH" OF THE SEATS WHEN ACCELERATING AND STOPPING. MY VEHICLE HAS THIS PROBLEM. IT TURNS OUT THERE IS A "WASHER" THAT KEEPS THE ROD THAT CONNECTS TO THE POWER SEAT MOTOR UNIT UNDER THE SEAT. THERE IS A HEX SHAPED WASHER THAT HOLDS THE ROD IN PLACE. THIS HEX SHAPED WASHER SNAPS AND BREAKS OFF. THE RESULT IS A WHIP-LASH TYPE JERK WHEN COMING TO AN ABRUPT STOP. THE DEALERSHIPS ARE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AS IT IS COMMON AND SUGGEST THAT THE COST OF REPAIR CAN BE ANYWHERE FROM $500 TO $700 FOR PART AND LABOR. THE FIX SUGGESTED BY DEALERSHIPS IS TO REPLACE THE MOTOR, THOUGH IT IS THE HEX NUT HOLDING THE ROD FROM THE MOTOR THAT IS THE CULPRIT. THE FIX SIMPLY REQUIRES A NEW HEX WASHER WHICH IS CONNECTED TO THE SEAT BRACKET ALONG WITH NEW BOLTS. THIS IS POTENTIALLY A VERY DANGEROUS DEFECT IN THAT IN AN ACCIDENT OR EMERGENCY BRAKING THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER IS WHIPPED FORWARD AND BACK WHICH CAN CAUSE INJURY TO THE NECK AND BACK. I HAVE A 2003 DODGE DURANGO IN WHICH I HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE FRONT SEAT HOUSINGS. THIS IS THE PLASTIC COMPONENT THAT IS SUPPOSED TO PROTECT THE WIRING OF THE ELECTRIC SEATS. SINCE PURCHASING THIS VEHICLE NEW IT HAS HAD MAJOR ELECTRICAL ISSUES. THE SAD PART, NOBODY AT DODGE CARED. IT WOULD SHIFT INTO 4WD LOW AT DANGEROUS SPEEDS. AFTER TAKING TO SEVERAL DODGE DEALERS NONE COULD OR WOULD FIX IT. DODGE THEMSELVES BASICALLY LAUGHED AT RIPPING OFF YET ANOTHER CUSTOMER. NHTSB HAS TOTALLY IGNORED THE THOUSANDS OF CONSUMERS WITH ISSUES ON THESE VEHICLES. OURS IS ANOTHER THAT HAVE THE PULSATING LIGHTS PROBLEM THAT APPARENTLY NHTSA AND DODGE FEEL IT ISN'T AN ISSUE TO HAVE YOUR LIGHTS TURN OFF WHILE DRIVING IN TRAFFIC AT 70 MPH. I REALIZED THAT THE VEHICLE APPROACHING WAS NOT GOING TO STOP IN TIME. THE RANGER STRUCK OUR VEHICLE AT APPROXIMATELY 30 M.P.H. OUR VEHICLE WAS STILL TRAVELING FORWARD SO THE IMPACT WAS DISSIPATED TO APPROXIMATELY 25 M.P.H. THE INSTANT THE VEHICLE STRUCK OURS, THE REAR HATCH POPPED OPEN DEPOSITING SOME OF OUR LUGGAGE AND ARTICLES ONTO THE ROADWAY WHERE THEY WERE STUCK BY THE VEHICLE THAT STRUCK OURS, DAMAGING THE ITEMS. MY CONCERN WAS THAT IF I HAD AN UNSECURED OCCUPANT IN THE THIRD SEAT, THEY MIGHT HAVE BEEN EJECTED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE CAR STARTED OVER HEATING LAST MAY 2013. AFTER ALL THE REPAIRS, THE CAR IS STILL OVERHEATING - REPLACED THE RADIATOR, THE THERMOSTAT, THE HOSES, FLUSHED THE COOLANT AND PUT FRESH COOLANT IN IT, FIXED THE FANS. I HAVE TO ADD COOLANT TO KEEP IT FROM OVERHEATING HOWEVER EVEN THAT IS NOT WORKING. THE ISSUE ACCORDING TO THE MECHANIC IS WITH THE ENGINE AND COOLING SYSTEM DESIGN THAT HAS A FLAW IN IT. AIR CONDITIONING STOPPED WORKING UNDER NORMAL USE. AFTER INSPECTING THE BLOWER MOTOR RESISTOR, AND CONNECTOR PLUG I FOUND THE INSIDE TO BE MELTED LIKELY DUE TO TOO MUCH VOLTAGE. I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE HEATER BLOWER RESISTOR ONCE A YEAR FOR THE LAST 2 YEARS IN MY 2003 DODGE DURANGO. THIS TIME THE HEATER WIRING HARNESS PIGTAIL CONNECTION WAS CORRODED AND MELTED AND BURNT, IT WAS MELTED TO THE RESISTOR MODULE. THE SPARE TIRE WINCH ON MY VEHICLE FAILED AND THE SPARE TIRE FELL TO THE PAVEMENT. IN MY CASE I WAS FORTUNATE TO BE IN A PARKING LOT WHEN IT HAPPENED AND THERE WAS NO ACCIDENT. IF THIS HAD HAPPENED ON THE HIGHWAY AN ACCIDENT WOULD HAVE ALMOST SURELY RESULTED. THE SPARE TIRE ON THESE VEHICLES IS QUITE LARGE AND HEAVY AND COULD CAUSE A LARGE NUMBER OF POSSIBLE OUTCOMES IF HIT AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. THE SPARE TIRE WINCH USES A STRANDED STEEL CABLE TO LIFT AND LOCK THE SPARE TIRE UP AGAINST THE BOTTOM OF THE VEHICLES FRAME. THIS STRANDED STEEL CABLE FAILED RIGHT WHERE IT PASSED THROUGH THE CENTER OF THE RIM. THIS STRANDED STEEL CABLE IS GOING TO FAIL EVENTUALLY ON EVERY DODGE TRUCK THAT USED THIS DESIGN OF WINCH. EVERYONE WILL EVENTUALLY FAIL. CHRYSLER HAS USED THIS DESIGN IN LITERALLY HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF VEHICLES OVER THE YEARS SINCE THE 90S OR BEFORE. IT AMAZES ME THAT THERE HAS BEEN NO ACCIDENTS OR FATALITIES RESULTING FROM THE FAILURE OF THE WINCH. AN INTERNET SEARCH SHOWED MANY INSTANCES OF THE SPARE TIRE FALLING FROM THE VEHICLE DUE TO THE CABLE FAILING.

2003 DODGE DURANGO HAS A PROBLEM WITH THE LUG NUTS STAMPED STAINLESS COVER. *NJ THE CONSUMER STATED WHILE DRIVING, THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE SHREDDED. ALL OF THE LUG NUTS CAME OFF, EXCEPT ONE. WHEN THE CONSUMER APPLIED ADDITIONAL PRESSURE ON THE LUG WRENCH, TO BREAK IT LOOSE, THE STAMPED STAINLESS DECORATIVE CAP TWISTED OFF. HE WAS UNABLE TO GET IT BACK INTO PLACE, SO THAT THE 19MM LUG WRENCH WOULD WORK. THE CONSUMER REPLACED ALL OF THE LUG NUTS. *JB

WHEN I ARRIVED AT THE DOCTOR I CHECKED AGAIN AND THIS TIME I WAS MISSING ONE ON THE REAR DRIVER SIDE. I DID NOT STOP ANYWHERE SO I KNOW THAT IT HAD TO COME OFF WHILE I WAS DRIVING. I ALSO CALLED THE DEALER PARTS PERSON TO FIND OUT IF THEY HAD REPLACEMENTS AND HOW MUCH THEY WERE AND HE TOLD ME THAT HE HAS BEEN HAVING A RUN ON THEM AND THAT EITHER SOMEBODY MUST BE COLLECTING THEM OR THEY WERE DEFECTIVE. Clogged or leaking A/C drain hose. This hose is responsible for draining condensation from the A/C evaporator, the condensation pools in large quantity on the passenger floorboard. This constitute a hazard for the electrical systems near it and a risk of corrosion not to mention potential toxic mold and basically the car self flooding. A few videos document the issue and it is due to bad design where the drain hose is oriented upward and/or the seal blocking water from penetrating the passenger cabin is cracked or falls away in time. Cars from 20+ years ago like my Dodge Durango would certainly experience a degradation of such a seal. The seal itself is very difficult to get to but the issue is pressing. GRANTED WE TRIED REPLACING HOSES, VALVE GASKETS TUNE UP. I FEEL THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL TO FIND AND FIX THIS BEFORE A SERIOUS INJURY HAPPENS. THIS HAS ALSO HAPPENED AS I WAS DRIVING AND I HAD TO PUT IN NEUTRAL TO RESTART. THE STREETS AND ROADS I HAVE TO TRAVEL ARE USUALLY ALWAYS BUSY. ALSO THE VEHICLE WHEN STOPPING THE FRONT DRIVER AND PASSENGER SEATS SLIDE BACK AND FORTH, THEY ARE NOT WHAT I WOULD CALL SAFE... FOR I BELIEVE THE RULES ARES TO CHECK MIRRORS, ADJUST SEATING, WEAR SEAT BELTS TO ENSURE THAT YOU WILL BE DRIVING SAFELY. I COULD BE WRONG BUT I'M PRETTY POSITIVE. NEEDS FIXING NOW!! THE OTHER ISSUE IS THE HOSES... THEY SEEM TO FALL OFF AND I TAKE INTO SHOP JUST TO HEAR ITS THE HOSE AGAIN. NOT COUNTING NUMEROUS OTHER ISSUES LIKE WINDOWS NOT ROLLING DOWN SOME DAYS, REAR HEATER DOESN'T WORK UNLESS THE FRONT HEATER IS OFF. THE PROBLEM ORIGINALLY STARTED ABOUT 2 WEEKS AGO. WHEN I SWITCHED ON THE REAR FAN (HEAT OR AC DID NOT MATTER), THE ENTIRE CENTER CONSOLE (RADIO, BLOWER SWITCHES, AND ELECTRONIC 4WD SWITCH) WOULD GO COMPLETELY DEAD, AND THE "SERVICE 4WD" LIGHT WOULD COME ON. THEN THIS STARTED HAPPENING WHEN I TURNED ON THE FRONT BLOWER OR THE REAR BLOWER. THEN IT STARTED HAPPENING WITH BOTH BLOWERS OFF AND THE HEADLIGHTS ON HIGH. NOW IT DOES IT SPONTANEOUSLY FOR NO APPARENT REASON WITH ALL EXTRA ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS (THE HEADLIGHTS, RADIO, AND BLOWERS) ALL OFF. I'M THINKING THERE IS A SHORT SOMEWHERE, BUT CANNOT IDENTIFY IT. SO FAR, I HAVE REPLACED THE BLOWER MOTOR RESISTOR, THE TCCM, AND THE IGNITION SWITCH WITH NO APPARENT IMPROVEMENT. I'VE ALSO HAD THE DASH APART AND CHECKED EVERY ELECTRICAL WIRE I COULD GET TO FOR OBVIOUS SHORTS. NO LUCK. THE PROBLEM IS GETTING PROGRESSIVELY WORSE. I TALKED TO THE MECHANIC AT THE LOCAL DODGE DEALER, AND HE SAID HE THINKS IT'S THE TIPM (MAIN FUSE BOX) IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. HE SAID HE SEES THEM SHORT OUT "ALL THE TIME, SOME OF THEM SO BAD THEY ACTUALLY CATCH FIRE!" (DIRECT QUOTE FROM HIM.) I AM NOW TERRIFIED TO DRIVE MY DURANGO, BUT I CANNOT AFFORD THE HUNDREDS, IF NOT THOUSANDS, OF DOLLARS IT'S GOING TO COST TO FIX THE TIPM, IF THAT'S WHAT IT REALLY IS. I NOTICED MY TIRES WERE NOT WEARING EVENLY AND I FELT AND HEARD A "CLUNK" NOISE EVERY TIME I BACK OUT OF MY PARKING SPOT AT WORK. THE DEALERSHIP INSPECTED AND SAID THAT THE UPPER AND LOWER BALL JOINTS OF THE RIGHT AND LEFT WHEELS OF MY 2003 DODGE DURANGO MUST BE REPLACED. I SEE THERE ARE RECALLS FOR ALL PREVIOUS YEAR DURANGOS BUT NOT THE 2003??? THE DEALERSHIP REFUSED TO PAY FOR MY REPLACEMENT. I REPLACED THE LEFT SIDE AS THEY WERE ACTUALLY BROKE, MY RIGHT SIDE STILL NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AND ARE LOOSE AND NEAR FAILURE. 2003 DODGE DURANGO WAS PURCHASED FROM A LOCAL DEALERSHIP IN WICKLIFFE,OH IN APRIL OF 08. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN AT THE DEALERSHIP NEEDING TO BE SERVICED IN EXCESS OF 7 TIMES, FROM THE BUSHINGS BEING REPLACED TO THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT REPEATEDLY COMING ON WITH THE DEALERSHIPS INABILITY TO FIX IT . I HAVE BEEN IN A RENTAL CAR MORE THAN I HAVE DRIVEN THE VEHICLE THAT I PURCHASED FROM THE DEALERSHIP. THERE WAS AN EVAP CODE AS THEY SO ELOQUENTLY STATED SO THEY ALLEGEDLY FIXED THAT ONLY TO FIND THAT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STILL CONTINUALLY COMES ON. EVERY TIME THAT THE PROBLEM WAS SUPPOSEDLY RESOLVED, I WAS BACK AT THE DEALERSHIP WITHIN 2 TO 3 DAYS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM AGAIN. THE MANAGEMENT THERE STATED AND ADMITTED THAT THEY SIMPLY CAN'T FIX THE VEHICLE THEREFORE THEY ARE GOING TO GET ME OUT OF IT SO THEY EVEN HAD ME TO PICK ANOTHER VEHICLE WHICH THEY SAID WOULD FIT PERFECTLY AND SHOULD NOT AFFECT THE PAYMENT THAT I HAVE IN PLACE RIGHT NOW. I HAVE BEEN HEARING ABOUT GETTING THIS REPLACEMENT VEHICLE FOR OVER 3 MONTHS WITH NO RESULT. VEHICLE HAS A BRAKE PULSATION AND HAD A BRAKE SQUEAK. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON SINCE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED IN 10-03. VEHICLE WAS RETURNED TO DEALERSHIP WHILE UNDER WARRANTY. THEY REPLACED THE BRAKE PADS AND RESURFACED THE ROTORS. THIS DID NOT ELIMINATE THE PULSATION BUT DID ELIMINATE THE SQUEAK. THE TRANSMISSION BANGS INTO GEAR AND HAS A LONG DELAY GOING FROM PARK INTO REVERSE. THIS IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN RETURNED TO THE DEALER MORE THAN 10 TIMES. THEY CLAIMED THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THIS IS AFTER TELLING US THEY FELT SOMETHING BUT DID NOT KNOW WHAT IT WAS. ENGINE STALLS AND RUNS ROUGH. THIS IS INTERMITTENT AND DEALER COULD NOT DUPLICATE IT. I HAVE SPOKEN WITH SEVERAL TRANSMISSION SHOPS AND THEY HAVE STATED THAT THERE IS A FIX FOR THE TRANSMISSION PROBLEM. BALL JOINTS HAVE BEEN REPLACED, FRONT AXLE SPYDER GEARS HAVE BEEN REPLACED. PREVIOUS 1998 DURANGO HAD SAME PROBLEM - FIX WAS FRONT WHEEL BEARINGS. 2003 DURANGO - DEALER SAYS THAT IT DOESN'T REQUIRE REPLACEMENT. NOISE AND GRINDING ONLY HAPPEN AT SLOW SPEED TURNS LEFT OR RIGHT. FROM STOP TO LIGHT ACCELERATION TO HARD LEFT OR RIGHT TURN, NEW NOISE FROM REAR AXLE - LIMITED SLIP UNIT NOW GETTING LOUDER. AXLE OIL AND LIMITED SLIP ADDITIVE HAVE BEEN REPLACED WITH FACTORY CHRYSLER OIL ADDITIVE. INDICATIVE OF SAME PROBLEM WITH 1998 DURANGO THAT I HAD, WHEN REAR AXLE PINION BEARING WAS HEAVILY SCORED. IN THAT INCIDENT THE SAME MAINTENANCE WAS DONE, BUT REPAIR WAS OUT OF WARRANTY BY 3,000 KM'S AND CHRYSLER ONLY PAID 50% OF REPAIR OF $700.00. OIL CHANGES ON COMPLETE DRIVETRAIN WAS $590.00 (4X4 WITH SKID PLATES). THIS APPEARS TO BE A METAL FATIGUE PROBLEM IN COMBINATION WITH ENGINEERING SPECIFICATIONS THAT ARE TOO WIDE IN TOLERANCES, WHICH ALLOWS FAILURE OF COMPONENTS TO COMPOUND PROBLEMS AND CREATE LONGER TERM DAMAGING RESULTS. EVER SINCE DODGE TRUCKS WENT TO MAINTENANCE FREE FRONT AXLE BEARINGS (YOU CAN'T PACK BEARINGS WITH GREASE), POOR LIMITED SLIP TOLERANCES IN REAR AXLE, AND TRANSFER CASE THAT'S ELECTRONICALLY OPERATED, THE DRIVETRAIN AND FRONT SUSPENSION COMPONENTS HAVE EXCESSIVE LOADS AND POOR QUALITY COMPONENTS. BOTH DURANGOS THAT I'VE OWNED HAVE HAD 5 WHEEL ALIGNMENTS (CONSTANT PULLING TO THE LEFT) AND NO OFF ROAD DRIVING. STRICTLY HIGHWAY AND CITY DRIVING. I PURCHASED FACTORY EXTENDED WARRANTY ON 2003 DURANGO WHICH I HIGHLY RECOMMEND. SO FAR, OUT OF POCKET EXPENSES HAVE BEEN MINIMAL, BUT DURANGO SPENDS TOO MUCH TIME IN THE SHOP AND IS VERY INCONVENIENT TO HAVE SERVICED CONSTANTLY. THE ITEM WE WISH TO DRAW TO YOUR ATTENTION IS THAT THE DAMAGE TO THE CAR INVOLVED THE SUSPENSION ROD, WHICH CAME OFF AND UP THROUGH THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT OF THE CARAND THROUGH THE ROOF. HAD ANYONE BEEN SITTING THERE THEY WOULD HAVE MOST CERTAINLY BEEN SKEWERED. THANKFULLY, I HAD JUST DROPPED MY CHILDREN OFF . MY 16 YEAR OLD NORMALLY SITS UP FRONT. ONE SHOULD NOTE THAT THE FRONT TIRE CAME OFF THE VEHICLE COMPLETELY AS WELL. THE SHOULDER PART OF THE SEATBELT DID NOT LOCK AND MY UPPER BODY WAS ALLOWED TO BANG AROUND. I SPENT 4 DAYS IN THE HOSPITAL AND WAS OUT OF WORK FOR 5 WEEKS. I AM STILL ONLY ON LIGHT DUTY DUE TO THE CONDITION OF MY KNEE AND THE POST CONCUSSION SYNDROME I AM HAVING. THE FRONT AND SIDE CURTIN AIRBAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY IN A ACCIDENT ON 8/8/04 I WAS THE PASSENGER IN A 2003 DODGE DURANGO R/T IN LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA AT ABOUT 6 PM. THE DRIVER DIVERTED THE CAR FROM A REAR END CULISION WITH A DISABLED OUT THAT WAS STOPPED IN THE #2 LANE 0F THE 101 EAST WHEN THE DRIVER AVOIDED HIT THE CAR. THE DURANGO WENT IN TO A CIRCUL SERVIED TO THE RIGHTT MISSING THE STOPED CAR, THEN AT A RATE OF SPEED APX. 60 TO 65 MPH OUR DURANGO COLLIDED WITH THE CENTER DIVIDER ON THE EAST BOUND 101 FREEWAY HEAD ON WITH IMPACT THAT CAUSED MAJOR FRAME DAMAGE TO THE SUV AND SENDING US IN TO ON COMMING TRAFFIC. THE SUV AT THAT POINT CAME TO STOP ON THE RIGHT SHOULDER OF THE EAST 101WITHOUT HAVING HIT ANYOTHER CARS. DEALER STATED THEY WERE NOT ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM.*AK THE CONSUMER CAME TO A STOP TO LET ONCOMING TRAFFIC PASS. MY COMPLAINT IS A 2003 DODGE DURANGO. LESS THAN 13,000 MILES AND BALL JOINTS, ARM CONTROLS, BRAKES, SWAY ARMS ARE GOING OUT. LAST WEEK WAS THE 2ND TIME JOINTS WERE REPLACED. I CURRENTLY OWN A 2003 DODGE DURANGO. SINCE I HAVE PURCHASED IT IN FEBRUARY 2003 IT HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP SEVERAL TIMES. THE ROTORS HAVE BEEN REPLACE TWICE, THE REAR END TWICE AND NOW THE TRANSMISSION SLIPS INTO NEUTRAL WHILE DRIVING. THIS CAN BE VERY DANGEROUS. I OWNED A 1999 DURANGO AND HAD NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS WITH IT. THE STEERING COLUMN HAD TO BE REPLACED A FEW TIMES AND THE BALL JOINTS. THE TRANSMISSION ALSO HAD DONE THE SAME THING. DODGE COULD NEVER FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THAT DURANGO AND CANNOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THIS TRANSMISSION. THE LAST DURANGO THE TRANSMISSION SLIPPED INTO NEUTRAL WHILE CROSSING OVER LANES WITH ONCOMING TRAFFIC COMING RIGHT AT ME. AGAIN, THE DEALER COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG WITH IT. SAME WITH THIS ONE. I AM REQUESTING THAT DAIMLER-CHRYSLER AND WILLIAMSBURG DODGE REFUND MY MONEY AND TAKE THE TRUCK BACK. THEY RECENTLY HAD MY DURANGO FOR 15 DAYS. THE FIRST 10 DAYS THE DISTRICT MANAGER, JAMES BROWN, AND SHANE LOCKHART, DEALERS TECH MANAGER, ARGUED THAT MY CAMPER WEIGHED TOO MUCH. I GAVE THEM EVIDENCE THAT MY CAMPER ONLY WEIGHED 4295 LBS. DAIMLER-CHRYSLER SELLS THE DURANGO BOASTING IT CAN TOW 7400 LBS. AFTER I FILED A COMPLAINT WITH DAIMLER-CHRYSLER, JAMES BROWN SAID HE MADE A MISTAKE ON THE WEIGHT. NOW, THEY WANT TO INSPECT MY CAMPER FOR FAULTY BREAKS. THEY ARE SAYING SOMEHOW IT IS CAUSING STRESS ON THE DURANGO. GIVE ME A BREAK!!! I HAVE HAD MY CAMPER INSPECTED. SURPRISINGLY, THE PLACE WHERE I HAVE GONE SAYS THEY GET THIS A LOT FROM DODGE OWNERS. DO WE SEE A PATTERN?
