ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

While driving Friday 4/17/26, I heard a pop and the car displayed a message to "Check electric vehicle system." The car seemed to still drive so I drive it home. That evening the car would not charge. I called Jim Shorkey Kia on 4/18/26, where I bought the car, to schedule the car to be looked at. They told me to bring it in on Monday and they will try to squeeze me in so they can diagnose the issue. Later that morning, I took that car out and made it about a block away before the car displayed a new message to "Stop vehicle and check power supply." At this point, the car went into a limp mode, barely moving. I was able to turn around and drive it home. Had I been on the highway, I might have been put in a dangerous situation. Now that the car has been diagnosed, the service department called and told me that the failed component was the ICCU. From what I've read, Kia claims that 1% of cars suffer from this issue. However, this percentage seems unlikely due to the number of online complaints. I wanted my experience to be an official documented case of this since I've heard that Kia has issued limited recalls in other countries and on older model Kia EV6's in the US.

ICCU and fuse failure when it was being moved out from the garage. Got a “Check electrical system” notification when I turned it on following a level 2 charge the night before. It was with the dealer for exactly one month before I was able to pick it back up.
Apr 11, 2026
While driving on a sunny day on a 35mph road, my dashboard reported “Check Electrical Vehicle System”. A red battery symbol appeared and my cruise control disengaged with a message “requirements not met”. When I got home I read my 12 volt battery monitor that reported the battery was 11.99v and only had a 60% state of charge. Just prior to this short drive from home, my battery was 12.77v and had a 100% state of charge. I put in my ODB reader and it provided two error codes: P1A9096 and P1A961C. The first error code is the result of an ICCU failure in its DC to DC circuit (the one that charges the 12V battery from traction battery). Using a battery charger, I was able to fully recharge the 12volt battery. My monitor says that it’s healthy with 100% state of charge. Turning the car back on resulted in a rapid drain of the battery from 100% to 93% in just five minutes while parked. The electrical system failure warning lights are still lit. I’m having my car towed for repair. If this failure had occurred more than 10 minutes from my home, I would’ve been stranded.
Apr 08, 2026
The ICCU unit failed and the car first slowed and then stopped. I was able to pull off the road at an intersection. A tow truck had to jump charge the battery to allow the car to be shifted into neutral in order to pull it onto the tow truck.

ICCU failure. Car lost power while driving. I heard a "pop" sound and then the car displayed a warning light moments before losing power. Car was towed to the dealership where they diagnosed and replaced the ICCU and a fuse. This is a known problem since the 2022 model year and seems to be a very common failure that the manufacturer is unable definitively repair. Thankfully I was on a local street and not on a highspeed highway when this occurred.
Mar 18, 2026
When shifting from reverse to drive there was a loud pop towards the back up the car. A check electrical system warning popped up, and then eventually a Check Power Supply stop now warning came up. The vehicle would not go above 26MPH and had to be stopped in a parking lot to be towed to the dealership. The ICCU went out and needed to be replaced, was at the dealership for 2 weeks for replacement.

After 2474 miles, the vehicle Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU) failed in my 2025 Kia EV6 making the vehicle undrivable so it had to be towed to the Kia dealer. The ICCU was replaced under warranty. The failure of the ICCU in Kia, Hyundai and Genesis electric vehicles is fairly common and they have yet to come up with a permanent solution.

ICCU failure caused loss of power on interstate. I almost got in a wreck because of this. Kia dealer refused to look at my car. Took vehicle to independent repair shop who diagnosed issue.

KIA has created a safety hazard by removing the ability for the driver to select LIGHT or DARK mode for the two 7" data and infotainment screens in their 2025 and forward EV6 electric cars. Like many, I have to drive in very fast busy commuter traffic on highway I-66. (exaserbated by driving into the sun in the AM) The DARK mode screens have insufficient contrast even with the screen lighting turned all the way up. It takes the drivers eyes away from the road longer than is safe, particularly in high speed freeway commuter traffic. This is seriously exacerbated if the driver uses sunglasses because of the sun. This is obviously not an issue confined to highway I-66, or me.
Apr 20, 2026
The battery had an electrical system failure warning after 5900 miles and has been in the shop for over a month.
Mar 15, 2026
Was driving around 45mph when I heard a pop noise, like an over pressurized soda bottle popped open. Moments later car abruptly dropped to under 35mph and reported errors and to check battery system. Brought it into dealer and they confirmed my ICCU failed and had to be replaced.

Was driving home lost all power. Caution lights came on. The ICCU, relay switch, 2 fuses. went bad. It took 9 weeks for KIA to fix, no compensation.

ICCU failure
Feb 23, 2026
I was driving on the highway when I heard a pop like a loud fuse sound from the back seat area. Suddenly the car dropped 15 mph from 70 mph to 55 mph and the battery and electrical system warning lights came on and the vehicle said check electrical system. I was able to continue with my hazard lights on to exit the highway, at which point the max speed of the vehicle dropped to 45 mph. It would not go faster no matter how hard I pushed the gas pedal. I was able to pull over to a gas station and park in a spot but the vehicle had to be towed. When the tow truck arrived, the vehicle also flashed with the 12V battery low warning. It was diagnosed as a failed ICCU, which rapidly drained the 12V battery. The car is only 4 months old with about 7,300 miles. This is a serious safety concern, especially with the sudden failure and loss of power. I’m lucky I wasn’t hit and that I was able to get off the road before it totally died.

I was driving my car and the stop immediately and check battery sign came on. I had to have my car towed to the dealership. I read that the ev6 have ICCU problems and commonly need to be replaced. The car lost all acceleration and power and eventually stopped moving all together.

ICCU failure. Pulled out of driveway, heard a pop, received warning to pull over and check vehicle power. Car had to be towed to dealership but they are experiencing so many of these failures that they are extremely backed up on even being able to check out the car.
Mar 03, 2026
While driving on a busy road at night, my vehicle displayed battery warning lights and went into "limp mode" which slowed me down to 25 mph before stopping completely. I was then stranded until a tow truck could be dispatched. The Kia dealer told me that the issue was an ICCU (integrated charging control unit) which they have to order. I have since learned that this issue is known and is common.

ICCU failure within three (3) days of buying vehicle. Only 300 miles on it. Failed to charge with known working Level 1 charger on day 1, successfully charged with Level 3 charger on day 2, and then failed to charge at same Level 3 charger on day 3. Simply connecting the Level 3 charger on day 3 had the car emitting "charger errors", and then followed that up with an "On board charger" fault. Vehicle no longer charges. Returned to dealer for repair.

I have experienced a ICCU failure at 7200 miles on my 2025 EV6 GT Line. This failure is a safety hazard as it will quickly disable the vehicle and strand the occupants wherever they be at the time of failure. (highway, back roads, day or night). There are warning lights when this occurs, but there is a very limited time to get to safety, depending on the state of charge of the onboard 12v battery. This issue has been ongoing since this vehicle came out in 2022. There have been a number of recalls to address the problem, but apparently without success. I see postings all the time with others experiencing this failure. When I inquired about the availability of the replacement ICCU, I was told that the part was on national back order. I was also told there were 147 units in transit, 47 were already spoken for. This seems to indicate that this is a very common issue, affecting many drivers.

Power completely dropped while driving in traffic. This occurred several times. I could have easily been rear ended. Also, I could have been stuck within an intersection, I could have been broadsided. I see researched this issue and found it was widely written about in KIA EV6 online forums. Kia should have checked for issues before I leased the 2025 EV and informed me before I made a decision to lease vehicle. This occured in first weeks I drove the new car.

Windshield cracking on new Kia EV6 with only 2700 miles. Was 53 degrees outside so no defroster excuse. Seems to be a stress crack and looking online in KIA EV6 Forums, I've noticed it is not a one-off problem as many owners have had to deal with this.

The ICCU unit failed. Limited speed and no charging capabilities. The Dealer has been informed and an appointment has been made 3 weeks out as they are too busy. The ICCU has not been inspected yet. No warning lamps or messages appeared before the problem started. After a loud POP or bang in the rear of the car 1 warning light appeared and 1 message. (See Attached) POP happened at 16:15 hrs on the attached graph.

initial filed #11708370 (1/2/2026) 2nd filed #11717025 (2/10/26) Yesterday afternoon (2/10/26), I was told by Jim Shorkey Kia Wexford PA that no error codes are on the EV6, it is ready for pick up. Before I received this call, there was a software update done on the EV6 (see service records) I attached 2 photos of the software update as well. ICCU ASSY was replaced, etc. was told per Shorkey Kia since there are no issues with my EV6, as of Friday when they initially called to say my vehicle was ready for pick up, Kia considers my problem resolved. I know I’ll be paying for the car rental for X number of days, even though the EV6 did not get the software update until this past Tuesday, yesterday 2/10/26, which cleared the 3 codes that were still showing on the Kia app earlier morning yesterday, screenshot of that attached as well. I have my car, no codes visible now.

prior case 11708370 filed 1/2/2026 spoke with [XXX] 1/22/2026. Friday 2/6/2026 Shorkey Kia Wexford calls and tells me my EV6 is fixed I can pick it up. I go into the Kia App and still have the same 3 codes as before; P056216 VCU, C160404 FR_Radar, and C28B186 ADAS_DRV. I tell them later that day when I had time to open the app to make sure the codes were corrected, called them back and said until these codes are cleared, my vehicle is not fixed. Tuesday 2/10/2026 I get a called from same person at Shorkey Kia in Wexford, telling me my vehicle is fixed, I can pick up my vehicle, same person her name is Maggie. I told Maggie to hold while I bring up the Kia app, I still see the same 3 codes: P056216, C160404, C28B186. I told her the codes are still active, and as long as these codes are present, the car isn’t fixed. She wouldn’t tell me what was done to the car, so I don’t know if the ICCU was replaced or not. However from browsing the EV6 Owners USA group, [XXX] had the same issue, and his car was fixed per whatever Kia place that is around him. He still has the P056216 alert and was told it will go away after whatever period of time. This is what the Kia repair place told him. Erratic behavior before pulling out of parking lot: STOP vehicle check power, check 12V battery Stop safely engage parking brake. All dash lights started flashing, going black, power couldn’t be maintained, thankfully not on highway yet. Complete car failure, had to have 2025 EV6 jumped 4 times, battery still showed 41% charged, couldn’t keep charge to even get car in neutral for tow or doors locked. After each jump from tow company, power would last for less than 3-5 seconds, then dead, completely dead vehicle nothing worked.

The rear door of my KIA EV6 intermittently fails to open even when the vehicle is unlocked. The issue has been recorded on video and reported to an authorized KIA dealer, but it has not been repaired. A child safety seat is installed in the rear seat, and this defect creates a serious safety risk in an emergency where immediate access to the child is required. The vehicle is unsafe due to this defect.

Driving down local (residential) roads, the ICCU died; towed to dealership 12/3/2025. All 12 volt electrical was inoperable. So no hazard lights, no shift to neutral, no locking the doors. It was towed to the dealer. ICCU is now being ordered. The Master Warning light and 12V battery warning light illuminated. I was fortunate to be able to park in a parking lot just before all electrical died. An Internet search shows that this is a known issue; and, even after the replacement the situation can happen again. Took delivery 6/28/25. So, not even 6 months old.

Issue Description: When parking facing downhill, I put the car in reverse but the car rolls forward. Feels like the car is either in drive or neutral. Concern is intermittent, and I confirmed each time it happens, gear selector is in reverse. When trying to re-engage reverse, the display shows "gear already selected." Safety risk: Car almost hit car in front of us while trying to reverse. Car was inspected by dealer service center. Could not duplicate, but found an error code. Dealership found multiple software updates available on the brand new car and installed.
