THE CONTACT STATED THAT IF VEHICLE HIT THE SMALLEST OF POT HOLES, AT ANY SPEED THE RIM WILL BEND, BOTH ON THE INSIDE AND OUT SIDE. THE CONTACT HAD 2 OF THE RIMS REPLACED AND TWO OF THE TIRES AS WELL. ON FIVE OCCASIONS THE RIMS WERE REPAIRED. THE CONTACT HAS REPAIR ORDERS, AND WILL HAVE PICTURES OF THE LATEST FAILURE.*AK

TL*- THE CONTACT HAS A 2001 MITSUBISHI ECLIPSE GT. THE CONTACT HAS A COMPLAINT ABOUT THE ALLOY WHEELS ON THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT'S VEHICLES TIRES WERE BALANCED ON 1/15/07 AT THAT POINT THE CONTACT WAS NOTIFIED THAT ONE OF THE ALLOW WHEELS WAS SLIGHTLY BENT AND MAY CAUSE AIR TO LEAK AND THE TIRE TO BE DAMAGED. THE CONTACT WANTS TO MAKE A FORMAL COMPLAINT TO MITSUBISHI IN REGARDS TO THIS ISSUE. THERE HAS BEEN NO TIRE FAILURE TO DATE. *JB THE CONSUMER STATED THE RIMS ARE SOFT AND THEY BEND EASILY. WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK AND CAME TO A STOP. TRIED TO SHIFT INTO 1ST AND COULD NOT DO SO. HAD TO TURN OFF MY CAR TO SHIFT INTO GEAR TO AVOID GRINDING. HAD A HARD TIME GOING FROM 1ST TO 2ND AS WELL. ONCE ARRIVING HOME COULD NOT SHIFT INTO REVERSE. SEEMS LIKE THE GEARS WERE TRYING TO STRIP AND A HORRIBLE GRINDING WAS OCCURRING. I HAVE BEEN DRIVING A STICK SHIFT FOR ALMOST 30 YEARS AND THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I HAVE EVER HAD THIS PROBLEM. HAD TO TURN OFF MY CAR TO SHIFT INTO REVERSE TO GET INTO MY DRIVEWAY TO PARK. TRIED THE NEXT DAY TO DRIVE MY CAR...DID THE WARM UP DUE TO COLD WEATHER, AND AGAIN COULD NOT SHIFT INTO ANY GEARS WHILE MY CAR WAS RUNNING. AS SOON AS I TURN THE IGNITION OFF I COULD SHIFT JUST FINE. I'VE RESEARCHED TO TRY AND FIGURE OUT THE PROBLEM AND EACH SOLUTION EQUATES TO PAYING A LOT FOR REPAIRS. I'M UPSET BECAUSE I CANNOT AFFORD A NEW CAR AT THIS TIME AND I NEED A RELIABLE VEHICLE FOR MY JOB. WHILE DRIVING FROM THE HIGHWAY ON AN OFF RAMP AT 50 MPH, ENGINE (RPM) STARTED BOGGING DOWN, THEN BOTH FRONT TIRES LOCKED UP TO A SCREECHING HALT. I ALMOST SLIDE OFF THE RAMP AND ALMOST GOT REAR ENDED BY A SEMI TRUCK BEHIND ME. FRONT TIRES WERE LOCKED UP, WOULD NOT MOVE OUT OF THE ROAD AND WOULD NOT COME OUT OF GEAR. HAD IT TOWED TO REPAIR SHOP AND WAS QUOTED $3,000 JUST TO PULL THE TRANSMISSION FOR DIAGNOSTICS. ON THE MORNING OF MARCH 3, 2011 I WAS INVOLVED IN A WRECK, SLAMMING INTO A CHEVROLET COBALT WHICH WAS LATER CITED FOR FAILURE TO YIELD. I WAS DRIVING A 2001 MITSUBISHI ECLIPSE GT CONVERTIBLE AT THE POSTED SPEED OF 45 MPH. I SLID APPROXIMATELY 8 FEET BEFORE HITTING THE PASSENGER SIDE DOOR OF THE COBALT. MY AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY AT THE TIME OF THE CRASH, OR EVEN AFTERWARD FOR THAT MATTER. I WAS DRIVING ALONG THE HIGHWAY WHEN MY FRIEND AND I NOTICED AN ANTIFREEZE SMELL AND THE WINDSHIELD STARTED TO FOG. WE BOTH WORK ON CARS FOR A LIVING AND WE BOTH KNEW EXACTLY WHAT IT WAS. THE HEATER CORE. WHAT SURPRISED ME WAS THAT MY CAR ONLY HAS 35K MILES ON IT AND THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I HAVE EVER SEEN A HEATER CORE FAIL WITH SO LITTLE MILES ON IT. THE PART COST ME $200 AND THE LABOR, WHICH I WAS THANKFULLY ABLE TO PERFORM, TOOK THE BETTER PART OF A DAY. THE CAR'S COMPUTER IS LOCATED BENEATH THE HEATER CORE BUT LUCKILY I CAUGHT IT IN TIME OR IT COULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT BY STALLING THE CAR ON THE FREEWAY. 2001 MITSUBISHI ECLIPSE GT WAS RUNNING FINE FOR 4 YEARS. ON 9/9/06 I GOT IN MY CAR AT ABOUT 9:00 PM AND TURNED ON THE LIGHTS. AS I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD, I REALIZED THAT MY HEADLIGHTS WERE NOT ON. I QUICKLY PULLED OVER AND CHECKED THEM. UPON OPENING MY HOOD, I NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM MY HEADLIGHTS AND AFTER THEY COOLED, I SAW THAT THE CONNECTOR AND WIRES WERE MELTED. I WENT TO THE DEALER WHERE I BOUGHT THE CAR AND HE ADVISED ME THAT THE WERE OUT OF CONNECTORS BECAUSE THE ORIGINAL CONNECTORS WERE NOT STRONG ENOUGH TO TAKE THE CHARGE OF THE LIGHT BULB AND MANY PEOPLE WERE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM OF THE CONNECTORS JUST MELTING OFF. MITSUBISHI NOW SELLS A STRONGER CONNECTOR FOR 12.95 EACH. *JB

ONE HEADLIGHT WENT DIM A MONTH BEFORE THEY BOTH WENT OUT ENTIRELY AND SIMULTANEOUSLY. UPON INSPECTION, DISCOVERED THE PLASTIC WIRING TERMINAL THAT CONNECTS TO THE HEADLIGHT BULB HAD MELTED AROUND THE SAME WIRE ON EACH CONNECTOR. NO FUSES WERE BLOWN AND ALL THE FILAMENTS WERE INTACT IN THE BULBS. SUSPECT THAT ARCING OCCURRED IN THE DEFECTIVE WIRE CAUSING THE CONNECTOR TO MELT. *JB

WIRING HARNESS FEMALE SOCKET FOR THE HEADLAMPS OVER HEATED AND MELTED. THE PASSENGER SIDE FEMALE SOCKET MELTED ABOUT ONE YEAR AGO TO A POINT WHERE IT WOULD NOT PROVIDE HEADLIGHT ILLUMINATION. BEFORE THE COMPLETE FAILURE, THE HEADLIGHT WOULD EITHER BE FULLY BRIGHT, OR VERY DIM. THE MILEAGE ON THE VEHICLE AT THAT TIME WAS AROUND 60K. I ALSO NOTICED THAT THE DRIVER SIDE FEMALE SOCKET ALSO HAD MELTED SOME DURING THIS TIME. IN JAN. OF THIS YEAR, WITH APPROX. 70K MILES ON THE VEHICLE, THE DRIVER'S SIDE HEADLIGHT FAILED COMPLETELY WITH THE FULL MELTING OF THE FEMALE SOCKET. A FEW DAYS PRIOR TO COMPLETE FAILURE, A BURNING ODOR IS NOTICED IN THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT. I HAVE BOTH PIECES AVAIL TO SEND IF NEED BE. THIS IS A SERIOUS ISSUE BECAUSE A COMPLETE FAILURE OF BOTH FEMALE SOCKETS AT THE SAME TIME IS POSSIBLE. THIS COULD CAUSE SOMEONE DRIVING TO GO FROM HAVING TWO HEADLAMPS TO NONE WITHIN SECONDS. I HAVE A 2001 ECLIPSE GT, AND I HAVE BEEN HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE HEADLIGHTS GOING ON AND OFF UNTIL ONE DAY THEY JUST STOPPED WORKING. IT KEPT SMELLING LIKE SOMETHING WAS BURNING AND IT HAD BEEN THE HEADLIGHT HARNESSES. THE DEALERSHIP I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE FROM CLOSED DOWN SO I BROUGHT IT TO KEY MITSUBISHI OF MILFORD AND THEY SAID THAT THE HEADLIGHT HARNESSES MELTED. THEY IN TURN TOLD ME THAT IT WOULD COST CLOSE TO $300.00 TO FIX. I DIDN'T DO ANYTHING TO MAKE THE WIRES MELT AND IT SHOULD BE MITSUBISHI'S RESPONSIBILITY TO FIX THE PROBLEM. THEY SAID THAT I SHOULD TAKE IT TO CRABTREE IN MILFORD AND SEE IF THEY WOULD DO IT. THEY DID NOT WANT TO COVER THE DEFECT EITHER. I HAVE NO HEADLIGHTS ON THE CAR AND THIS CAUSES A HUGE SAFETY RISK. I NEED TO KNOW WHAT I HAVE TO DO IN ORDER TO GET THE MANUFACTURER TO FIX THIS DEFECT. THIS IS MITSUBISHI'S FAULT AND MISTAKE. WE PURCHASED A 2001 MITSUBISHI ECLIPSE FROM CARMAX IN CHARLOTTE, NC IN AUGUST OF 2003. THE CAR HAD 19K MILES. AFTER DRIVING LESS THE 100 MILES THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. WE HAD THE CAR SERVICED BY CARMAX 4 DIFFERNT TIMES, THEY REPLACED 2 O2 SENSORS. AFTER THE 4TH SERVICE THEY REFERRED US TO A MITSUBISHI DEALER. THAT DEALER ALSO REPLACED AT LEAST TWO O2 SENSORS. THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT KEPT COMING ON ABOUT EVERY 50 -60 MILES. WE TRIED TWO OTHER MITSUBISHI DEALERS FOR A TOTAL OF 11 SERVICE VISITS OVER A 12 MONTH PERIOD. ONE DEALER CHANGE THE ENGINE CONTROL COMPUTER AND AN O2 SENSOR. THE PROBLE REAPPEARED AFTER ABOUT 100 MILES. DURING THIS TIME I REPEATEDLY CALLED THE MITSUBISHI CUSTOMER SERVICE CENTER WITHOUT GETTING ANY ASSISATANCE. I ALSO CONTACTED THE SOUTHEASTERN SALES MANAGER DAVID SULLIVAN WHO WAS A TOTAL WASTE. THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON AND THE CODES SHOW AN EVAPORATIVE EMISSIONS LEAK. SEVERAL SERVICE VISITS DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. THERE IS A PARTICULAR POINT WHERE THE PIPES IN THE ASSEMBLY MAKE AN APPROXIMATELY 45 DEGREE BEND, MOVING FROM A DOWNWARD ANGLE TO AN ANGLE THAT IS MORE PARALLEL WITH THE GROUND. AT THIS BEND OR ELBOW, THE MANUFACTURER PLACED A THICK METAL SHIELD, PRESUMABLY TO PROTECT A WEAK POINT. THE SHIELD BOLTS TO THE BODY OF THE CAR IN FOUR PLACES AND CUPS THE FUEL PIPES IN A SEMI-CIRCLE AROUND THE BEND LEAVING AN APPROXIMATELY ONE-HALF INCH GAP BETWEEN THE PIPES AND THE SHIELD. THIS SHIELD AND PIPE ASSEMBLY IS SITUATED DIRECTLY BEHIND AND SLIGHTLY INBOARD OF THE REAR PASSENGER TIRE, HOWEVER, IT REMAINS EXPOSED. BECAUSE OF THE GAP BETWEEN THE PIPES AND THE SHIELD, AND BECAUSE OF THE WAY THE SHIELD IS ANGLED UPWARDS, AND BECAUSE THERE IS NO COVER OR OTHER PROTECTIVE DEVICE TO SEAL THIS GAP, THE SHIELD COLLECTS DIRT, DEBRIS, GREASE, AND MOISTURE. PRESUMABLY, THE REAR TIRE THROWS THIS FOREIGN MATERIAL AROUND WHICH THEN COLLECTS IN THE SHIELD, BUILDS UP, AND CONTACTS THE PIPES, CAUSING THEM TO RUST. EVENTUALLY THE PIPES RUST COMPLETELY THROUGH CAUSING FUEL TO LEAK ON THE GROUND WHENEVER THE VEHICLE IS REFUELED. THE HOLES IN THE PIPES ALSO ALLOW GASOLINE VAPORS TO ESCAPE AND IMPAIRS THE EVAP SYSTEM. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 MITSUBISHI ECLIPSE SPYDER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS HESITANT TO START AND EXHIBITED AN OVERPOWERING GASOLINE ODOR. MY WIFE AND I WERE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND THE RIGHT MOLDING ON THE FRONT WINDOW FLEW OFF THE CAR.(IT IS CALLED THE A PILLAR.) IT SHOT BACK, BANGING AGAINST THE SIDE OF THE CAR DENTED THE DOOR. WHEN WE GOT TO OUR DESTINATION I LOOKED AND THE BOLTS WERE STILL IN THE FRAME, BUT THE MOLDING WAS GONE. THE NEXT DAY I WENT TO THE DEALER (COCONUT CREEK MITSUBISHI IN COCONUT CREEK, FLORIDA) TO ASK IF THIS WAS NORMAL. THEY OF COURSE SAID NO. I ASKED WHAT THEY WOULD DO TO GET IT REPLACED. THEIR FIRST RESPONSE WAS TO SELL ME A NEW ONE AT A COST OF $163.70 PLUS TAX, BUT THEY WOULD INSTALL IT FOR FREE BECAUSE THEY ADMITTED THAT THIS SHOULD NOT HAPPEN. A WEEK LATER I SPOKE TO THE SERVICE MANAGER MICHAEL SEE AT COCONUT CREEK MITSUBISHI AND FIND OUT WHAT THE FACTORY REP TOLD HIM. MICHAEL TOLD ME THAT JOHN HACKWORTH THE FACTORY REP SAID I'M NOT GOING TO DO ANYTHING. THE FACTORY REP NEVER LOOKED AT THE CAR OR INSPECTED THE BOLTS TO SEE WHY THE MOLDING FLEW OFF. HE HEARD THE AGE OF THE CAR AND THE MILEAGE AND THAT WAS THE BASIS FOR HIS FINAL DECISION. THE STORY THAT MICHAEL SEE AND THE ASSISTANT MANAGER OF THE DEALERSHIP STANLY ANDERS KEEP TELLING ME IS THAT THE CAR IS SIX YEARS OLD AND HAS 95,000 MILES ON IT AND THINGS BREAK. FIRST MR. ANDERS SAID THAT IT WAS NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR. THE FACT THAT THE FACTORY REP NEVER CALLED TO LOOK AT THE VEHICLE AND INSPECT THE BOLTS TO SEE WHAT HAPPENED, IN MY OPINION IS UNACCEPTABLE. THE FACT THAT MITSUBISHI MOTORS OF NORTH AMERICA HAS NO INFLUENCE OVER THE DECISIONS OF A FACTORY REP IS ABSURD. IN ADDITION, THE DASHBOARD IS SLOWLY FALLING APART. THE DASHBOARD HAD APPROXIMATELY SEVEN CRACKS IN IT WHEN I PURCHASED THE CAR. THE DEALER SAID THAT THIS IS NORMAL ON CONVERTIBLES AND THAT THEY WILL NOT REPLACE IT. YOUR CAR, YOUR PROBLEM WE DID MORE THEN ENOUGH FOR A USED CAR. I almost got into a accident because it's late sobits really hard to see because the headlights u cnt see any at all at night I can use a flash light out the window and see better like that but on top of that my car just decides to up and stall on me and not wanna start back and it had melted my crankshaft sensor wires and I guess it just decided to also mess up the wiring on my camshaft sensor I literally had to wire up the wires straight around the plug on both just to make it home it was cold out and all I really love my car but I'm spending more money than I've got just tryna keep it running and between that and the lights that's gonna get sum1 hurt or killed if not fixed I was on a backroad had no service to call anybody for help and I was right between 2 blind turns

I HAVE REPLACED ONE FRONT WHEEL AT MY COST DUE TO THE EDGE BENDING ENOUGHT THAT IT WOULD NOT HOLD AIR. I HAVE ALSO HAD 2 MORE RIMS REPAIRED, AGAIN AT MY COST, FOR SIMILAR REASON. THE FRONT SUSPENSION ON THE SPYDER DOES NOT TOLERATE NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR FOR AVERAGE ROADS. MITSUBISHI HAS REFUSED TO ADMIT THAT THE DESIGN OF THE VEHICLE OR THE WHEEL COULD BE AT FAULT FOR REPEATED FAILURE.

SINCE I BOUGHT THE CAR IN 9/01 I HAVE HAD OVER 20 FLAT TIRES, CAUSING ME TO MISS WORK GETTING STUCK OVER THE BRIDGE. I HAVE HAD TO PAY FOR 4 NEW RIMS AND SEVERAL TIRES BECAUSE THE RIMS SEPERATE FROM THE TIRE. I HAVE HAD SCRATCHES APPEAR AROUND THE DRIVERS LEFT SIDE OF THE CAR WHICH NOW MOVE ALL THE WAY TO THE LICENSE PLATE I WAS PUTTING ON THE DONUT IN 2002 AND SAW MY STRUT WAS BLOWN AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS WITH THE DEALERSHIP AS TO WHY MY CAR SHAKES AFTER HITTING A BUMP THEY KEPT TELLING ME I WAS HITTING CURBS WHEN I SAID TO THEM MY STRUT IS BLOWN THEY TRIED BLAMING ME AND AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS THEY INVESTIGATED AND REALIZED I HAD A MANUFACTUERS DEFECT IN MY LEFT DRIVERS FRONT TIRE. I SAID THEY SHOULD REPLACE THE FRONT SIDE OF MY BUMPER BACAUSE OF THE SCRATCHES THEY REFUSED. WHEN I FIRST PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE FROM THE DEALER 6/2001 I HAD TO TAKE IT BACK 2 TIMES DUE TO THE DEFECT OF THE HOSE HOOKED TO THE RADIATOR, THEY REPAIRED IT UNDER WARRANY, AND NOW IT HAS OCCURRED AGAIN WHICH ALL MITSUBISHI DEALERS TELL ME BECAUSE IT IS NOT UNDER WARRANTY AND NOT ON THE RECALL LIST THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO. I JUST GOT DONE PUTTING BRAND NEW SWAY BAR LINKS ON THE CAR, AND PAID 350.00 TO DO THIS IN WHICH THEY TOLD ME SHOULD NEVER OCCURRED ON THIS NEW OF A CAR. I FEEL SINCE I REPORTED THE PROBLEMS WITH THE NOISE FROM THE FIRST WEEK I GOT THE CAR ALL THE WAY UNTIL RECENT WHEN I FIXED IT, THEY OVERLOOKED IT AND IGNORED THE PROBLEM WHICH COULD HAVE COST ME AND MY SON OUR LIVES. I FEEL MITSUBISHI SHOULD COVER THESE THINGS SINCE THERE IS PROOF I TOOK IT IN OVER 13 TIMES FOR THE SAME COMPLAINT NOISE UNDER THE CAR (SWAY BAR LINKS) AND RADIATOR FLUID LEAKING ALL OVER THE ENGINE AND BURNING. THE FIRST WEEK OF BUYING THE CAR I NOTICED A LITTLE SCRATCH BY THE FRONT DRIVERS SIDE TIRE. THEN I STARTED HEARING LITTLE SQUEAKING NOISES WHEN I WAS REVERSING COMING FROM THE SAME LEFT TIRE. THEN I NOTICED THE RIM WAS BENT I BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALER THEY SAID I WAS HITTING CURBS & ROAD HAZARD. MONTHS LATER THE SCRATCH AT THE BOTTOM BY THE FOG LIGHTS WAS GETTING BIGGER AND DEEP THE TIRE KEPT LOSING AIR AND THOSE SPRINGING SOUND NOISES I STILL HEARD. MAKE THE LONG STORY SHORT IT IS 2 YEARS LATER THE DEEP GASHES FROM THE LEFT FRONT TIRE IS NOW ALL THE WAYAROUND THE BOTTOM OF THE FOG LIGHTS ALMOST REACHING THE MIDDE.I WENT THRU 2 TIRES NO BLOW OUTS THANK GOD 3 RIMS AND ONE WAS A REPLACEMENT THE TIRE KEEPS LEAKING AIR THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE CAR ITS ALL THE LEFT FRONT. THEY NOTICED ITS ONLY HAPPENING IN CERTAIN STATES THAT CERTAIN STATES ROAD CONDITIONS ARE BAD. ALL STATES HAVE POTHOLES BUT WHEN YOU ARE DRIVING 15 MPH, HIT A POTHOLE ,& YOUR RIM BENDS CAUSING YOUR TIRE TO LEAK AIR SOMETHING WRONG. THESE RIMS ARE CONSTANTLY BENDING BUT ON MY CAR IT S ONLY THE LEFT SIDE. ITS UNSAFE, BECAUSE WHEN I HIT A POTLHOLE IT MAKES A LOUD BANGING NOISE EVEN MY BRAKE PEDAL SHAKES. IF I KNEW ALL THESE COMPLAINTS I WOULD OF NEVER BOUGHT THIS CAR NOW I KNOW ITS NOT ME BUT THE WAY THESE CHEAP SOFT WHEELS WERE MADE SOMETHING SHOULD BE DONE ABOUT THIS ITS UNSAFE AND THE WHOLE CAR SHAKES AND STEERS TO THE LEFT AFTER HITTING A POTHOLE. I DONT USE MY CAR ALOT MOSTLY BACK AND FORTH TO WORK ON A HIGHWAY 15 MILES ONE WAY. THE LEFT DRIVER SIDE RIM KEEPS BENDING, WHICH CAUSES A FLAT TIRE. I BOUGHT 3 RIMS ALREADY. ALWAYS WITH IN A WEEK THE RIM IS BENT. THE CAR MAKES A NOISE FROM THE FRONT END COMING FROM THE LEFT TIRE AND THERE ARE DEEP SCRATCH MARKS ON THE LOWER FRONT BY THE TIRE. WE LEASE THE VEHICLE FROM MOTOR WORLD, MY SON AND MYSELF HAVE HAD ACCIDENTS WITH THE CAR THAT WE FEEL ARE A DIRECT RESULT OF THE CAR NOT STEERING PROPERLY, OR ACCELARATING PROPERLY. I CONTACTED MITSUBISHI MOTORS OF AMERICA AS WELL AS THE DEALER AND MY INSURANCE COMPANY SEVERAL TIMES. THE DEALERSHIP HAD THE CAR FOR 3 MONTHS SUPPOSEDLY FIXING IT AND WHEN I GOT IT HOME I HAD IT FOR A WEEK AND THE WHOLE CAR FELT LIKE IT WAS FALLING APART. I TOOK IT BACK TO THEM AND IT HAD A CRACKED MOTOR MOUNT AND THEY SUPPOSEDLY FIXED THAT. I HAVE THE CAR BACK FOR 2 WKS NOW AND IT IS MAKING ALL KINDS OF NOISES AND IT HAS TO GO BACK TO THE DEALERS AGAIN FOR THE 5TH TIME. THERE IS SOMETHING RADICALLY WRONG WITH THAT CAR AND THAT IS WHY WE HAD THE ACCIDENTS.
