HEARD A LOUD POP WHILE DRIVING FORWARD, PULLED OVER ONLY TO FIND A BROKEN STABILIZER BAR, HANGING ON THE REAR DRIVER SIDE. LOOKED ON THE WEB TO FIND MANY PEOPLE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. PART IS DEFECTIVE, CALLED NISSAN TOLD IT WOULD BE ABOUT $500.00. OWNED MANY DIFFERENT CARS AND NEVER EVER HAD A STABILIZER BAR JUST BREAK. VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH NISSAN AMERICA....

THE REAR SWAY BAR BROKE WHILE DRIVING UNDER NORMAL CONDITIONS. IT PROMPTED ME TO GET ONLINE TO SEE IF THERE WERE ANY PROBLEMS WITH THIS ISSUE. IT SEEMS THAT THERE IS AN ENGINEERING DEFECT IN THE PRODUCT AS THOUSANDS OF ALTIMA OWNERS HAVE ATTESTED TO THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE SWAY BAR. AND, THEY ALL SEEM TO BREAK IN THE SAME PLACE. WHY IS THIS NOT A RECALL ISSUE? IT'S CERTAINLY DANGEROUS ENOUGH DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD WITH A PIECE OF PIPE HANGING DOWN DRAGGING ON THE ROAD. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY NISSAN IS NOT HELD TO A HIGHER STANDARD OR EXPECTATION, AND WHY SO MANY OWNERS ARE HAVING TO PAY TO GET A DEFECTIVE ENGINEERED PRODUCT FIXED. WAS AT THE REPAIR SHOP PICKING UP MY OTHER CAR WHEN THE MECHANIC NOTICED SOMETHING HANGING FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY CAR. HE THREW THE CAR UP ON A LIFT AND DISCOVERED THAT IT WAS A BROKEN SWAY BAR. HE WAS SHOCKED AND SAID HE'D NEVER SEEN OR HEARD OF ANYTHING LIKE THAT. I HAVE NO IDEA OF THE SAFETY IMPLICATIONS, BUT AFTER A QUICK SEARCH ONLINE IT SEEMS AS IF THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF OTHERS WITH THIS SAME PROBLEM. The driver side door airbag did not deploy after major side impact by a box truck that never engaged the braking system. The Altima under went a safety inspection approximately 30 days prior to the accident. There were no warning lights on the vehicle. The vehicle has been inspected by the NJ State Police, involved Insurance companies and outside engineers. The driver ,my son, of the Altima, was fatally injured due to head trauma. THE LOCAL DEALER HUDSON NISSAN LOCATED AT 7331 RIVERS AVE, NORTH CHARLESTON, SC 29406 AND THE MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 08V521000 (AIR BAGS, ELECTRICAL). THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD EXPERIENCED THE SAME FAILURE LISTED IN THE RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 59,000.

I AM REQUESTING THAT DOT NHTSA INVESTIGATE THE DRIVER'S CONTRIBUTION TO A LEAK WITH THE MASTER CYLINDER AND TO REQUEST THAT DOT NHTSA FORCE NISSAN TO ISSUE A RECALL. THE VEHICLE IS 2007ALTIMA 27K MILES THIS LEAK CAUSES LOSS OF BRAKE FLUID. WHEN ENOUGH BRAKE FLUID IS LOSS, THE BRAKE SYSTEM IS NOT ABLE TO GENERATE ENOUGH PRESSURE TO SQUEEZE THE BRAKE PAD TO THE BRAKE ROTORS. END RESULT IS THAT THE OPERATOR OF THE VEHICLE CANNOT STOP THE CAR (NO BRAKES!!!). THIS POSES SERIOUS DANGER TO THE VEHICLE OPERATOR, ITS PASSENGERS AND THE PUBLIC. PLEASE FORMALLY INVESTIGATE AND WHEN FOUND VALID, FORCE NISSAN TO DO A RECALL. MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE: IT STARTED WITH THE BRAKE LIGHT TURNING ON THEN AFTER A FEW MINUTES, TURN OFF. ALL THE WHILE MY BRAKES STARTS TO DIMINISH. I LOOKED THE BRAKES SYSTEM AND FOUND THAT THE BRAKE FLUID LEVEL IS LOW. TOPPED IT OFF AND EVERYTHING WAS BACK TO NORMAL.AROUND 60 DAYS LATER, BRAKE LIGHT AGAIN TURNED ON AND A FEW MINUTES TURNED OFF. SAME PROBLEM. I HAD IT CHECKED WITH A PROFESSIONAL MECHANIC. HE??S CONCLUSION IS THAT THE MASTER CYLINDER HAS A LEAK AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. A 5 YEAR OLD CAR WITH 27K MILES SHOULD NOT HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THE MASTER CYLINDER. I drove my car to work that morning and it was running completely fine. When I went to lunch that same day after 5 mins of driving the car my CVT transmission slipped out of nowhere and lost all power completely while I was on a busy road with lots of traffic almost causing multiple accidents because it happened out of no where and I was unable to get my car off of the road due to having no power. The car gave me no warning signs that anything was wrong until it wouldnt move anymore.

The Transmission failed at 51,000 miles. It has not come to a grinding halt yet but poses a safety hazard on any long trips. It was only a strange noise that varied with the acceleration that tipped us off that there might be a problem. The car is 14 years old now but my wife put very few miles on it and it still should be working. Regularly maintained by my local Nissan dealer for the lifespan of the car. Having now seen many other notices on Nissan transmissions for this and other model years you think Nissan would have recalled the cars and addressed the problem. I am very disappointed with Nissan and will buy another brand for my wife's next car.

I HAVE A 2007 NISSAN ALTIMA 2.5S WITH CVT TRANSMISSION THAT HAS FAILED AT 181,225 MILES. CAR HAS ALWAYS BEEN TAKEN CARE OF.. DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD A WHINING SOUND STARTED LOST ACCELERATION THEN A VERY LOUD GRINDING NOISE AND THEN SHIFTING ISSUES.. ALL WITH IN 15 MINUTES.. NO WARNING JUST QUIT GOING. MECHANICS STATE IT IS THE TRANSMISSION AND HAS TO BE REPLACED. REALLY LOVE MY CAR BUT THE REPLACEMENT IS SO EXPENSIVE. NISSAN NEEDS TO HELP DUE TO THIS IS AN ON GOING ISSUE.

ON JANUARY 10, 2014, I WENT TO GET AN OIL CHANGE AND WAS TOLD THERE MAY BE AN OIL PAN LEAK BY THE LUBE CENTER IN FREDERICK MD. I DIDN'T REALLY THINK MUCH OF IT DIDN'T HAVE ANY OTHER PROBLEMS. MY CAR NOW IS MAKING A CHAINING LIKE NOISE WHEN DRIVING AND I WENT TO GET AN OIL CHANGE ON 6/20/14 AT SUNOCO IN FREDERICK , MD THEY SAY IT IS A MASSIVE OIL LEAK AND THAT MY CAR WILL CATCH FIRE AT THE ENGINE IF IT IS NOT FIXED, THEY COULD NOT LOCATE THE OIL LEAK AND IT WAS NOT FROM THE OIL PAN BUT IT NEEDS TO BE FIXED RIGHT AWAY. I AM AFRAID THAT THE CAR WILL EXPLODE, I HAVE CHILDREN AND I HAVE ONE ON THE WAY. I SEE THAT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM AT ONE POINT BUT IT IS CLOSED AND MANY PEOPLE ARE GOING THROUGH THIS NOW WITH THERE VEHICLE. MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON IN MY 2007 NISSAN ALTIMA. I TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC WHO DID A DIAGNOSTIC AND SAID THAT IT WAS MY CATALYTIC CONVERTER AND I NEEDED TO REPLACE IT. I LOOKED ONLINE AND FOUND OUT THAT NISSAN HAD A RECALL ON THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER BACK IN 2007 BUT I NEVER RECEIVED IT. NOW THAT MY CAR HAS PASSED THE WARRANTY MILEAGE, THEY REFUSE TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT THIS. I FEEL THAT THEY ARE NOT CORRECTLY NOTIFYING CONSUMERS OF THEIR RECALL INFORMATION INTENTIONALLY SO THEY DON'T HAVE TO PAY FOR THIS AND ALL THE BURDEN WILL THEN BE ON THE CONSUMER. The dashboard is cracking. This causes me concern regarding the airbag and if it will function properly if ever needed. The entire dash has a crack the runs the length left to right and it makes it appear the bottom portion will fall to the floor one day. I started noticing this over the summer. I saw that in Florida there was a class action to fix it. I just think it’s odd because this is an extra car that we no longer drive daily. It stays in a garage out of weather and so it should be perfect. We kept the car for our daughter who is now 16 and will be using it as she starts driving.

My 2007 Altima dashboard has been cracking for a few years. The car is parked inside the garage, and during the day while at work, is parked at a parking deck. The dashboard is getting worse over the year at the point pieces of the board are coming off exposing the yellow foam and cracking on areas where the sun don’t reach at. The cracks are all over the dashboard panel and white patches (like board melting) around the glove compartment.

My 2007 Altima dashboard has been melting and cracking for years now. The car is generally parked inside garage during work hours in day light. The deterioration has gotten to the point that glare on the windshield dangerously obstructs the view of the road, especially in sunny weather down in south Florida. The cracks are even in places where no sunlight reaches and causes my cabin to smell from melting dash My dashboard lights have also flickered on and off and gave me warning messages that went away on its own. I have taken my car to mechanic multiple times but they asked to contact manufacturer.

THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO FOUR DIFFERENT DEALERS, BUT THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DIAGNOSED. TWO OF THE DEALERS WERE LOCATED IN THE UNITED STATES AND THE OTHER TWO WERE IN CANADA. DICK SMITH NISSAN OF ST ANDREWS (3670 FERNANDINA ROAD, COLUMBIA, SC 29210) WAS ONE OF THE DEALERS THAT WAS CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 73,000.

THE FRONT DOOR LOCKS ON OUR NISSAN ALTIMA WILL NOT OPERATE WITH THE KEYLESS FOB. THIS LOCKING FAILURE HAPPENS ALL THE TIME WHEN THE VEHICLE IS PARKED OR WHETHER IN MOTION. I HAVE HAD THE BATTERY TESTED AND IT'S OK. THIS ISN'T THE FIRST TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED. THE REAR DRIVER SIDE FAILED TO OPERATE IN THE SAME MANOR AND I HAD TO HAVE THE OUR LOCAL NISSAN DEALERSHIP MAKE THE REPAIR A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO. I'M NOT SURE IF THIS IS A DOOR ACTUATOR PROBLEM OR SOME OTHER ELECTRICAL PROBLEM. I KNOW AFTER RESEARCHING THIS ONLINE MANY OTHER PEOPLE ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME THING. MY WIFE DRIVES THIS VEHICLE MORE THAN ME AND I FEEL THIS COULD BE A SAFETY ISSUE IF SHE NEEDS TO UNLOCK THE CAR IN A HURRY. I BELIEVE THIS SHOULD BE CONSIDERED A RECALL BECAUSE IT DOES INVOLVE PERSONAL SAFETY.

WHEN I WAS DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY AT APPROXIMATELY 60MPH, CAR GAVE SHRIEK WARNING BEACON, WITH ALL INDICATORS LIT UP & ABRUPTLY CAME TO A HALT. IN THIS INCIDENT CAR LOST ALL ELECTRICAL POWER. HENCE I WAS ONLY ABLE TO OPEN THE DOOR VIA MECHANICAL KNOB AND RUN TO THE SHOULDER TO SAVE MY LIFE. CAR HAS TO BE TOWED FROM FREEWAY TO A MECHANIC SHOP IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD. MECHANIC FOUND THE BATTERY FUSE BEING MELTED & RECOMMENDED ME TO TAKE THE CAR TO THE DEALER. UPON DIAGNOSIS, DEALER CONFIRMS THAT MAIN WIRING HARNESS THAT GOES FROM THE ENGINE THROUGH THE VEHICLE TO THE EV BATTERY THAT IS LOCATED IN THE TRUNK OF THE VEHICLE IS SHORTING OUT DUE TO THE WIRE BEING MELTED/HARNESS BEING MELTED CAUSING A RESISTANCE WITHIN THE CABLE & HENCE CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO STALL & LOSE ALL POWER. THIS IS SIMILAR TO ANOTHER COMPLAINT FILED ON NHTSA WITH ID NUMBER : 10560398 THE CAR IS WELL MAINTAINED FOR PAST 7 YEARS WITH ALL MAJOR & MINOR MILESTONE MAINTENANCE WAS PERFORMED BY THE DEALERSHIP. LOOKS LIKE CHECKING THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS OF THE CAR WAS NOT PART OF NISSAN'S RECOMMENDED PLAN. I NEVER RECEIVED ANY RECOMMENDATION FROM DEALER DURING ANY OF MY MAINTENANCE VISIT ABOUT FAILURE IN THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS. I AM LUCKY TO BE ALIVE, DESPITE MY CAR ABRUPTLY CAME TO A HALT IN FREEWAY. A FEW DAYS LATER A LADY CALLED ME AND TOLD ME IT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY AND THERE IS NOTHING THEY WOULD DO FOR ME. IT IS THE HEAT. I KEEP MY CAR UNDER MY CARPORT IN THE SHADE WHENEVER I AM AT HOME WHEN I GO TO WORK IT IS PARKED IN THE SHADE IN THE PARKING GARAGE WHEN I GO SHOPPING, I USE A SUN SHADE. WITH ALL THESE CRACKS AND GOO AND STICKY STUFF PEOPLE ARE HAVING HAS ANYONE TESTED THIS SUBSTANCE FOR TOXICITY. I NOW HAVE TWO WHITE SPOTS APPEARING. WHILE DRIVING MY 2007 NISSAN ALTIMA THE RPM DROPS AND THE CAR LOSES POWER. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT GIVES A CODE FOR THE CATALYST CONVERTER BUT THE LIGHT GOES ON AND OFF. ONCE THE RPM DROPS AND ALL OF THE LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD START BLINKING, THE CAR JERKS AND STALL. I HAVE TO PULL OVER AND PUT THE CAR IN PARK FOR A FEW MINUTES. As I was driving north on the 101 in the Carpinteria area, I attempted to brake for a construction zone slowdown. I had about 100ft to brake and was going 50mph compared to the 25mph of the cars up ahead. When I pressed the brakes, they did not fully engage and rather appeared to 'slip'. It felt like the brakes were engaged but not limiting the slow of the car in a significant manner. I rear-ended the car in front of me causing that car to hit the car in front of it. I could smell a strong burnt smell during and after the event. The car and brake piece are still available for inspection for another week or so until insurance is done investigating the car for the report, at which point it will be signed over to the scrapyard where it is currently being held (Steelhead Auto Recycler). This incident absolutely endangered my own life and the lives of the individuals of multiple vehicles around me. If I were going 10mph more than I was at the time I wouldn't be typing this message right now. I had absolutely no control over the speed of the car, and because of the construction there was no way to avoid the car in front of me. The lives of the family in the car in front of me were also especially endangered. The specific piece is not being inspected by the manufacturer or the police, although it possibly could be investigated once insurance does follow up with the report. There were no warnings that this was going to occur. In fact the car had its brakes checked just 2 years prior to this incident and it completely passed inspection with no concerns. Brake failure is not an experience I would wish on anyone in the world. It is absolutely petrifying in the moment and can result in devastation of so many lives.

WHILE APPROACHING THE GATE TO MY OFFICE PARKING LOT THIS MORNING, I ATTEMPTED TO COME TO A STOP WHILE THE GATE OPENED. AS I APPROACHED THE GATE, I COULD HAVE BEEN TRAVELLING NO FASTER THAN 4-5 MILES PER HOUR. THE BRAKES FAILED TO REACT. I FLOORED THE BRAKES, BUT TO NO AVAIL, AND CRASHED INTO THE GATE. FEARFUL OF THE SAFETY OF THE CAR, I HAD IT TOWED TO THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP, AND I WAS INFORMED THAT THERE HAVE BEEN PAST ISSUES WITH THE 2007 NISSAN ALTIMA MASTER BRAKE CYLINDER. AFTER CHECKING THE CAR, I WAS INFORMED THAT IT WAS A PROBLEM WITH THAT PART. IT HAD LEAKED INTERNALLY AND AT THE TIME I ATTEMPTED TO BRAKE THERE WAS SIMPLY NO MORE FLUID TO PROVIDE PRESSURE TO THE BRAKES. I ASKED IF THIS COULD HAVE HAPPENED AT ANY SPEED, AND WAS TOLD THAT IT COULD HAVE DONE SO. APPARENTLY THE NHTSA HAS DEALT WITH COMPLAINTS ON THIS BEFORE, BUT AS A SECOND OWNER OF THE CAR, I HAD NO IDEA THIS ISSUE WAS OUT THERE. ON 12/13/2008 AT 9:00 A.M. MY 24 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER ENTERED HER 2007 NISSAN ALTIMA AND WAS GOING X-MAS SHOPPING. THE ENTRANCE TO THE EXPRESSWAY IS LESS THEN ONE QUARTER MILE. The dashboard in my 2007 Altima is melting. It is ultra sticky and isn't cleanable at all. It wreaks of a chemical smell and also puts a glare on the windshield in certain lighting. It's a mess, and it's dangerous. There was a class action lawsuit filed for the issue in Florida and Nissan fixed the Altimas there.

NISSAN MELTING DASHBOARD - MY DASHBOARD HAS BECOME PERMANENTLY SHINY AND STICKY TO THE TOUCH. I BOUGHT THIS CAR USED FROM TENNESSEE AND DID NOT HAVE THIS PROBLEM UNTIL I BROUGHT IT HOME TO FLORIDA. THE SHINE REFLECTS OFF OF THE DASHBOARD AND ONTO THE WINDSHIELD MAKING IT INCREDIBLY DIFFICULT TO SEE WHILE DRIVING, ESPECIALLY ON SUNNY DAYS. MY HYBRID WARNING LIGHT CAME ON AND THE CAR STARTED TO LOSE POWER ON THE HIGHWAY. THE DEALER TOLD ME THAT THE HYBRID WATER PUMP HAD FAILED. WHEN I TOLD THE DEALER NIACIN OF BOURNE IN MASSACHUSETTS ABOUT THE ISSUE AND FAXED HIM THE INFORMATION ON THE RECALL I ASKED HIM TO CONTACT NIACIN ABOUT THE ISSUE. I WAS TAKING THE CAR TO GET AN OIL CHANGE AND THE MECHANIC NOTICED THAT THE SWAY BAR HAD RUSTED THROUGH AND BROKE. 06/30/09 (24,999 MILES): THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS PRESSED TO THE FLOOR OF THE CAR AND THE CAR WOULD NOT START FOR TWO-THREE DAYS BEFORE THE PEDAL AUTOMATICALLY DEPRESSED. THE BRAKES BEGAN TO SQUEAK AND THE BRAKE LIGHT WAS ON. NISSAN DEALERSHIP REPLACED FRONT CALIPER ASSEMBLY PER NTB08-057A AND REPLACED REAR PADS AND HARDWARE PER NTB08-047A. 01/21/2011: THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS PRESSED TO THE FLOOR OF THE CAR AND THE CAR WOULD NOT START FOR ONE DAY BEFORE THE PEDAL AUTOMATICALLY DEPRESSED. THE BRAKES BEGAN TO SQUEAK AND THE BRAKE LIGHT WAS ON. 02/17/2012 (69,504 MILES): THE BRAKES BEGAN TO SQUEAK AND THE BRAKE LIGHT WAS ON. BRAND NEW 2007 NISSAN ALTIMA TOOK TO DEALE R AT 2915 FOR OIL CHANGE AND ASKED THEM TO CHECK BRAKES. THEY TOLD ME THEY NEEDED TO REPLACE BACK BRAKE PADS. WHILE WAITING 6 HOURS THEY FINALLY WERE GOING TO LET ME TAKE IT, BUT THE WARNING LIGHT CAME ON. THE MECHANICS WERE NOT SURE WHAT CAUSED THIS AND THEY NEEDED THE CAR TO STAY. AT ONE POINT I WAS TOLD THE COMPUTERWAS NOT DOING WHAT IT WAS SUPPOSED TO WITH THE CAR. AFTER SEVERAL DAYS I WAS TOLD THEY WOULD NEED TO REPLACE THE WIRING HARNESS. NEEDLESS TO SAY WHEN I FINALLY PICKED UP THE CAR THEY ONLY FIXED THE WIRING HARNESS. IT HAD TROUBLE STARTING AS WELL. I WAIT SEVERAL MINUTES CHECKING TO SEE THAT CAR WAS IN PARK AND BRAKE PEDAL PUSHED IN AND PUSHED ON THE IGNITION WITH THUMB, AND ND IT TOOK SEVERAL TRIES BEFORE CAR STARTED. NO PARTICULAR EVENTS; LOW TIRE PRESSURE LIGHT CAME ON WHEN THERE WAS NO PROBLEM. NOT SURE OF OCCURRENCE INTERVAL BUT HAS HAPPENED THREE TIMES. THE CONSEQUENCES ARE THAT THE LIGHT STAYS ON CONTINUOUSLY AND OCCASIONALLY STARTS TO BLINK RESULTING IN DRIVER CONCERN OVER NOTHING. HAVE TAKEN VEHICLE TO DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAY "NO PROBLEM WITH SENSORS BUT RECOMMEND SETTING AIR PRESSURE TO 38 PSI TO GET LIGHT TO STAY OFF" WHICH IS 6PSI ABOVE AIR PRESSURE DECAL ON DOOR FRAME THAT RECOMMENDS 32 PSI. The contact owns a 2007 Nissan Altima. The contact stated that the air bag warning light was illuminated. Additionally, the contact stated that the message "Passenger Air Bag Off" remained displayed even though there was a passenger seated in the front passenger's seat. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the front passenger's seat occupant sensor unit had failed and needed to be replaced. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 08V521000 (Air Bags, Electrical System). The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.

ON 6/2/2008, I REPORTED TO THE NISSAN DEALER THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG ALERT LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED ON SEVERAL INTERMITTENT OCCASIONS WHEN AN ADULT WAS FULLY SEATED IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT. THE DEALER CHECKED THE VEHICLE AND REPORTED: "INSPECTED EVERYTHING WORKING AS DESIGNED". ON 10/2/2008, NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 08V521000 REPORTED A RECALL FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. I RETURNED TO THE DEALER ON 12/4/2008 AND THE DEALER PERFORMED NISSAN'S TEST FOR THE PROBLEM UNDER THE RECALL. THE DEALER REPORTED THAT NO PROBLEM WAS FOUND. ON THE NEXT DAY AND TWICE MORE IN THE FOLLOWING SEVERAL DAYS, THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG ALERT LIGHT WAS AGAIN ILLUMINATED WHEN AN ADULT WAS FULLY SEATED IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT. I RETURNED TO THE DEALER ON 1/7/2009 AND THE DEALER AGAIN CHECKED THE VEHICLE ACCORDING TO NISSAN'S PROCEDURES AND STATED THAT NO PROBLEM WAS FOUND. The Altima has 170k miles. We’ll taken care off . I was driving to work and out off nowhere the car lost power the speedometer stopped working and wouldn’t show me how fast I was going and I had to stopped and it lost all power. I tried looking everywhere for the problem to fix it and they told me they couldn’t get the part and told to come here and hopefully this helps, at the moment I dint have enough money to buy a car. The car has not been inspected but but the cops Or insurance. There were no warning prior to this accident it happened outta no where .

OBSERVED PIPE SUSPENDED FROM BESIDE RIGHT REAR WHEEL OF THE 2007 NISSAN ALTIMA 2.5. VEHICLE WAS PARKED. LOOKED UNDER VEHICLE AND DETERMINED IT WAS A PIPE LINKED TO THE REAR WHEEL AND SUSPENSION ASSEMBLIES. THE END OF THE PIPE WAS NEARLY DRAGGING ON THE GROUND. DID INTERNET RESEARCH CONCLUDING THAT THE BROKEN PIPE WAS THE REAR SWAY BAR OR TORSION BAR. PRIOR TO OBSERVING THE VISIBLE HANGING TORSION BAR END, WE FREQUENTLY EXPERIENCED THE REAR END OF THE VEHICLE WAS UNSTABLE WHEN CORNERING AT HIGHWAY SPEED SUCH AS WHEN ENTERING OR EXITING A HIGHWAY RAMP. GIVEN THIS FREQUENT EXPERIENCE, THE ACTUAL FAILURE IN TORSION BAR FUNCTIONAL STRENGTH MAY HAVE OCCURRED MONTHS EARLIER. AFTER DETERMINING THERE WAS NO RECALL OR SERVICE BULLETIN, AND ALSO NOTING THAT NHTSA RECORDS IN THIS DATABASE SHOW OVER 50 EVENT DESCRIPTIONS NEARLY IDENTICAL TO OURS, I WENT TO THE NISSAN DEALER TO ASK IF THEY OFFERED PAYMENT OR CREDITS FOR THIS REPEATABLE DEFECT. THE DEALER WAS NOT OFFERING ANY CREDITS. THEN, TOOK MY VEHICLE TO MY MASTER MECHANIC. HE PERFORMED THE SERVICE REPLACEMENT OF THE BROKEN SWAY BAR AND END LINK ASSEMBLIES. WE RETAINED THE BROKEN SWAY BAR IN HOPES THAT NHTSA BEGINS TO RESEARCH THIS PROBLEM. ACCORDING TO THE MECHANIC, THIS "BAR" IS REALLY A 5/8" DIAMETER PIPE THAT SEARED NEAR ONE OF THE BUSHING SUPPORTS. THERE IS SURFACE RUST PRESENT WITHIN THE PIPE INDICATING THAT THE PIPE HAD FRACTURED SOME TIME EARLIER WITH WATER ENTERING THE FRACTURE CAUSING THE RUST. IT IS NOT A SOLID STEEL "BAR" AS TYPICALLY FOUND IN OTHER VEHICLES THROUGHOUT THE INDUSTRY. COST OF REPAIR WAS APPROXIMATELY $200 FOR PARTS PLUS 1 HOUR SHOP LABOR. SUNDAY OCTOBER 2, 2011 MY CAR BEGAN LEAKING OIL UNEXPECTEDLY. IMMEDIATELY MY CAR WAS TAKEN TO A MECHANIC WHERE HE DIAGNOSED THAT THE OIL COOLER WAS LEAKING AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. I WAS ADVISED NOT TO DRIVE MY CAR AS IT WAS LOSING TOO MUCH OIL. I CONTACTED COGGIN NISSAN AT THE AVENUES (904-880-3000), SPOKE WITH JASON IN THE PARTS DEPARTMENT, I EXPLAINED WHAT WAS HAPPENING WITH MY VEHICLE AND HE INFORMED ME THAT HE HAS SEEN QUITE A FEW CARS THE SAME MAKE AND MODEL AS MINE WITH THE SAME EXACT ISSUE. I STRONGLY FEEL THERE IS A DEFECT IN THIS PART SINCE SO MANY CARS LIKE MINE ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. STARTING IN 2011 EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE THE CRUISE CONTROL LIGHTS STARTED BLINKING WHICH DISABLED THE ABILITY TO USE THE CRUISE CONTROL. BOTH WERE REPLACED BECAUSE OF BURNNING OR RUBBING DUE TO IMPROPER SPACING. NEW SPACERS WERE ADDED ALONG WITH NEW SENSORS. TOTAL COST FOR PARTS ONLY WERE- $445.13! 2007 NISSAN ALTIMA INTERIOR BRAKE LIGHT KEPT COMING ON AND CARRIED THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THE MASTER BRAKE CYLINDER WAS FOUND TO BE LEAKING INTO THE BRAKE BOOSTER. MY CAR WOULD NOT START CONSISTENTLY. I HAVE A 2007 NISSAN ALTIMA WITH PUSH BUTTON START. YOU HAVE TO ENGAGE THE BRAKE FOR THE START BUTTON TO WORK (AND HAVE ITELLI KEY). THE BRAKE LIGHT WAS NOT REGISTERING REGULARLY, SO YOU COULD START YOUR CAR AND DRIVE SOMEWHERE AND BE STUCK. I AM LUCKY I HAVE AN HONEST MECHANIC WHO FIGURED OUT IT WAS THE BRAKE SAFETY SWITCH UNDER THE PEDAL AND REPLACED IT TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE. BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH: DUE TO HOW BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH WAS ORIGINALLY CONSTRUCTED CAR FAILS TO TURN ON. ISSUE HAS BEEN CONSISTING FOR ALMOST A YEAR. MUST PRESS BRAKE PADDLE SEVERAL TIMES, FIRMLY. WHILE EITHER STARTING OR AFTER STARTING MY 2007 NISSAN ALTIMA WHEN DEPRESSING THE BRAKES THE REAR BRAKE LIGHTS DO NOT ENGAGE. THIS CAUSE MY VEHICLE TO EITHER NOT START OR THE BRAKE LIGHTS TO NOT WORK PROPERLY. I HAVE BROUGHT MY CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP 3 TIMES TO INCLUDE WHILE UNDER WARRANTY BUT THEY TOLD ME THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO UNLESS THEY COULD DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. The vehicle shakes, for a lack of better word it shudders during drives short or long, smells of gasoline constantly, randomly decides not to start, has fuel efficiency problems, is prone to overheating, the dealer confirmed there is an issue, but told me they can't do Anything about it because the "fix" used aftermarket parts and they refuse to do anything until the parts are changed back. The dealership even told me I might as well just run the vehicle to the ground due to that issue!

The contact owns a 2007 Nissan Altima. The contact stated while driving 20 MPH, the ABS and TPMS warning lights illuminated and the vehicle started to stall. The contact saw smoke coming out from underneath the hood. The contact was able to veer to the side of the road. An independent mechanic towed the vehicle to the contact’s residence. The independent mechanic then diagnosed that the transmission fluid and engine coolant were leaking over the engine compartment. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 07V267000 (Engine and Engine Cooling). The vehicle was not repaired. Additionally, the contact stated that upon attempting to start the vehicle, the brakes seized. The dealer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not included in a recall related to the failure. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 232,740.

THE OWNERS AND OR SELLERS OF THIS DANGEROUS AND LIFE THREATENING VEHICLE THAT WAS SOLD TO ME KNOWING THAT THE CAR WAS IN EXTREMELY BAD CONDITION. THESE CRIMINALS SOLD ME THE VEHICLE KNOWING THAT IT WAS NOT SMOG CLEARED OR APPROVED. THEY SOLD ME A FATAL ACCIDENT WAITING TO O HAPPEN! THEY INTENTIONALLY MODIFIED THE ODOMETER/MILEAGE TO 85K/95K... BUT WHEN I RAN A CHECK ON CAR FAX, IT CLEARLY SHOWED THAT THIS VEHICLE WAS 206,851 MILES OF WEAR AND TEAR TO ENGINE. THE BREAK SYSTEM ALMOST KILLED ME ON THE FREEWAY AND MADE ME LOSE CONTROL AND FORCEFULLY MADE ME SPIN OUT OF DRIVING CONTROL FOR 3 FULL SPINS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FREEWAY, BU THE GRACE OF GOD, I MISSED ALL INCOMING TRAFFIC.

DRIVING HOME FROM A PHYSICAL THERAPY APPOINTMENT, I ENTERED MY STREET APPS 1/4 MILE FROM MY HOUSE. I DEPRESSED THE GAS PEDAL TO GO UP A SLIGHT INCLINE. AT THIS POINT THE ENGINE ACCELERATED AS THE GAS PEDEL WAS TOTALLY DEPRESSED. THE CAR CONTINUED ACCELERATING. OUT OF FEAR FOR OTHER DRIVERS, I TRIED TO TURN TO A SIDE STREET ON THE RIGHT, AN 1/8 OF MILE FROM MY HOUSE WITH FOOT ON THE BRAKE AND NOTHING ON THE GAS. PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE FROM THE ORIGINAL OWNER. SAW THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER AIR BAG "OFF" INDICATOR LIGHT STAYED ON WHEN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT WAS OCCUPIED ALONG WITH THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT BLINKING IN THE INSTRUMENT PANEL (ALL THE TIME). UPON INVESTIGATING THE ISSUE, I FOUND THAT THE "VARISTOR" IN THE OCS CONTROL UNIT (OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM) IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT WAS BAD. THIS VARSITOR IS THE SWITCH THAT ENGAGES THE FRONT PASSENGER AIR BAG WHEN THE SEAT IS OCCUPIED. THIS WAS RECALLED FOR 2007 NISSAN ALTIMAS UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 08V521000. I CONTACTED NISSAN NORTH AMERICA ABOUT THE ISSUE AND WAS TOLD MY CAR (BY VIN) WAS NOT AFFECTED. WHEN I QUESTIONED WHY I WAS HAVING THE EXACT SAME ISSUE AS THE RECALL, I WAS TOLD THAT THE CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE FOR MY REGION WOULD CALL ME. WHEN I WAS CONTACTED, I WAS TOLD THAT MY CAR WAS ALREADY CHECKED AND THAT THERE WAS NOT A PROBLEM. WHEN I ASKED HOW MY CAR WAS CHECKED WHEN I WAS TOLD IT WASN'T AFFECTED, I WAS TOLD I COULD TAKE IT TO ANY DEALER AND THEY WOULD BE ABLE TO DIAGNOSE/REPAIR THE ISSUE. WHEN I ASKED ABOUT THE RECALL AND THE COST FOR REPAIR THE REP. TOLD ME MY CAR WAS "X" MONTHS AND "X" MILES OUT OF WARRANTY. I EXPLAINED THAT I WAS LOOKING FOR A REQUIRED SAFETY DEVICE TO BE REPAIRED NOT A ALTERNATOR OR WATER PUMP. THE REPRESENTATIVE WAS VERY SMUG AND BASICALLY TOLD ME TOO BAD. I ASKED IF IT WOULD TAKE SOMEBODY BEING INJURED IN ONE OF THEIR CARS WITH THIS ISSUE FOR THEM TO DO THE RIGHT THING BUT AGAIN WAS TOLD TO TAKE IT TO ANY DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIR. THE DRIVER SIDE END OF THIS BAR IS STILL ATTACHED AT THE LINKAGE RODS, BUT IS COMPLETELY BROKEN OFF FROM THE REST OF THE SWAY BAR AT THE LEFT SIDE BUSHING AND BRACKET. PLEASE FORCE NISSAN TO STEP UP TO THE PLATE AND AT LEAST ISSUE A SERVICE BULLETIN IF THEY ARE TOO STUBBORN TO ISSUE A RECALL. THE SECOND YEAR I OWNED IT, AT A COST OF $750.00. NOW, JUST AFTER MY THIRD ANNIVERSARY OF OWNERSHIP THE REAR SWAY BAR HAS BROKEN. IN CHECKING ON THE INTERNET, I FIND THAT ALL THESE ARE COMMON PROBLEMS. HOWEVER THIS SWAY BAR PROBLEM IS A DANGER FOR PERSONAL SAFETY. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6) DEAR SIR/MS., I WOULD LIKE TO INFORM YOU THAT MY CAR (2007 NISSAN ALTIMA HYBRID) ACCELERATED SUDDENLY AND ABRUPTLY (FIRST FORWARD AND THEN BACKWARDS), FULL THROTTLE, ON FEBRUARY 21, 2010, WHEN I WAS TRYING TO PARK IT IN THE GARAGE. THE BRAKES FAILED AND THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY DURING THIS INCIDENT. AS A RESULT, THERE WAS MAJOR DAMAGE TO THE CAR, OUR HOME AND PERSONAL PROPERTY. THE COSTS FOR REPAIR OF OUR HOME AND CAR, AND REPLACEMENT OF PERSONAL PROPERTY ARE ENORMOUS (>$30K). I BELIEVE THAT THIS INCIDENT WAS CAUSED BY DEFECTIVE ELECTRONICS/COMPUTER/ ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS INSTALLED IN THE CAR. NISSAN HAS INSPECTED THE CAR, BUT HAS NOT TAKEN ANY RESPONSIBILITY OR ACCOUNTABILITY. I DO NOT CONSIDER THIS VEHICLE SAFE, AND ACCORDINGLY, I DO NOT INTEND TO GET IT REPAIRED. ON 01/25/2010, I WAS DRIVING FROM WORK AND WHILE I ATTEMPTED TO STOP TO A LIGHT,THE BRAKES FAILED TO RESPOND. I COULDN'T CONTROL THE CAR ANYMORE. THE CAR SLID, AND HIT ANOTHER CAR IN THE BACK,BUT BECAUSE THE SPEED WAS LOW, THE DAMAGE WAS MINOR. AFTER THAT, THE CAR WAS FROZEN ; THE POLICE CAME AND THE CAR WAS TOWED TO A NEARBY AUTOBODY SHOP; AFTER THE OUTSIDE DAMAGE WAS FIXED, THE CAR WAS TRANSPORTED TO A NISSAN DEALERSHIP BECAUSE THE CAR WAS NOT DRIVABLE.(THE SOFT WARE WAS MESSED UP,AS THE DEALER TOLD ME).AT THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP, THE SOFTWARE WAS RESET. THEY COULDN'T GUARANTEE THOUGH THAT THIS INCIDENT WILL NOT HAPPEN AGAIN. I CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER AND EXPLAINED THAT THIS CAR HAD A GENERAL INSPECTION LESS THAN 2 MONTHS PRIOR THE ACCIDENT AND THE ANNUAL REVISION LESS THAN3 WEEKS PRIOR THE ACCIDENT, AND NOW, EVEN THE CAR WAS FIXED THE NISSAN DEALER CANNOT GUARANTEE THAT THE SYSTEM WILL NOT FAIL AGAIN. I HAVE A 2007 NISSAN ALTIMA SEDAN THAT HAD THE REAR SWAY BAR SNAPPED IN TWO. THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP HAD MENTIONED THAT IT IS NOT A MANUFACTURING DEFECT, BUT UPON AN INDEPENDENT INSPECTION BY A 3RD PARTY MECHANIC, THERE WAS NO APPARENT DAMAGE TO THE AREA SURROUND THE AREA WHERE THE SWAY BAR SNAPPED. ALSO, THE MECHANIC MENTIONED THAT THE SWAY BAR WAS MANUFACTURED AS A HOLLOW TUBE AND THEREFORE MAY NOT BE ABLE TO SUPPORT THE TENSION. THE SWAY BAR SNAPPED IN THE CONNECTION POINT WHERE IT WAS MOUNTED ON THE CHASSIS OF THE VEHICLE. I ALSO HAVE READ ABOUT OTHER OWNERS OF THE SAME VEHICLE WHICH HAVE ENCOUNTERED THE SAME PROBLEM. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE TIRE PRESSURE WARNING LIGHT CONSTANTLY ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL, WHICH INDICATED THAT THE TIRE PRESSURE WAS LOW. THE DEALER REPAIRED THE TIRE SENSOR, PERFORMED AN OIL CHANGE, AND ROTATED THE TIRES; HOWEVER, THE TIRE PRESSURE LIGHT CONTINUED TO ILLUMINATE. WHILE TRANSPORTING A PASSENGER, THE PASSENGER SIDE SEAT BELT BECAME STUCK AND COULD NOT RELEASE THE LATCH FROM THE HOUSING COMPONENT. WHEN ATTEMPTING TO REMOVE THE SEAT BELT, IT WOULD BECOME TIGHTER AROUND THE PASSENGER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS LESS THAN 3,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 31,000.

EXITED INTERSTATE HIGHWAY, TRAVELED UP RAMP, WAS UNABLE TO LIFT LEFT FOOT TO BRAKE (POSSIBLY CAUGHT UNDER PARKING BRAKE PEDAL, WHICH IS CLOSE TO THE BRAKE), TRAVELED THROUGH INTERSECTION AND HIT GUARD RAIL, CAUSING $8,800 DAMAGE TO MY 7-MO.-OLD LEASED 2007 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE WHOLE FRONT END CRUMBLED. BECAUSE I WAS NOT WEARING A SEAT BELT, I WAS THROWN INTO THE WINDSHIELD, HITTING AND SMASHING THE REAR VIEW MIRROR AND CRACKING THE WINDSHIELD. INJURIES SUSTAINED WERE NOT SERIOUS, BUT THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN NO INJURIES AT ALL IF THE AIR BAGS HAD DEPLOYED. NONE OF THEM DID. I AM NOW VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY OF MYSELF AND ANY PASSENGERS I MIGHT HAVE IN MY CAR. THE DEALERS SERVICE CENTER SAID THAT THE IMPACT WAS TOO HIGH UP ON THE FRONT END TO TRIGGER THE SENSORS. PURCHASED A 2007 NISSAN ALTIMA 2.5S. 1. FIRST PROBLEM STARTED WHEN I HEARD A LOUD RATTLING NOISE WHEN I START THE CAR (THIS WAS 2 MONTHS AFTER I BOUGHT THE CAR). INCREASE RPM TO 1.5 RPM TO GET A LOUDER, CRISPER NOISE. TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT THE HEAT SHIELD WAS CRACKED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. TOOK 2 WEEKS FOR THE DEALER TO FIX THE PROBLEM. NOISE WENT AWAY. 2. NOISE CAME BACK AGAIN 2 WEEKS LATER AFTER IT WAS FIXED. BROUGHT IT TO A DIFFERENT DEALERSHIP TO HAVE IT CHECKED OUT TO GET DIFFERENT OPINION. FINDS OUT THE HEAT SHIELD WAS INSTALLED INCORRECTLY. RESOLVED, AND LATER TOLD ME THAT THERE WAS MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS NOISE. 3. HAD A 110LB PASSENGER ON THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT AND THE AIR BAG OFF LIGHT TURNED ON. HAVE YET TO GO TO THE DEALER TO SEE WHY THIS IS HAPPENING. 4. AFTER ALL THIS, I START THE CAR ON DECEMBER 10TH, 2008 AND DID NOT WARM UP CAR. WHEN STARTING TO ACCELERATE CAR ON STREET, CLICKING NOISES STARTED TO EMERGE. WAS WONDERING IF THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE CLUTCH MOTOR OR THE BELT. NOISE STARTS DISAPPEARING WHEN THE CAR IS WARMED UP (AFTER 8 MINUTES) DECIDED TO TEST IT OUT BY WARMING UP THE CAR FIRST LATER IN THE DAY AFTER IT HAD COOLED DOWN, AND THEN DRIVING IT, CLICKING SOUND EMERGED AGAIN. BOUGHT IT TO THE DEALERSHIP, AND TOLD THEM TO MAKE SURE TO CHECK NOISE WHEN THE CAR IS COLD (GIVER OR TAKE 3 HOURS), THEY DID NOT LISTEN AND CHECKED IT WHEN WARM, WHEN THERE IS NO CLICKING OCCURS. DEEMED FINE. 5. BRAKE SQUEALS ONCE IN A WHILE WHEN USED. HAVE YET TO CHECK THIS ONE OUT TO THE DEALERSHIP. 6. ON A MORNING OF JAN. 2, 2008, I HAVE STARTED THE CAR ONLY TO NOTICE THAT THE AIR MODE HAS SWITCHED FROM DEFROST/FOOT AIR MODE TO FOOT MODE. I THOUGHT THE AIR CONTROL UNIT WAS SUPPOSED TO MEMORIZE THE LAST TIME I HAD THE MODE ON BUT ONCE EVERY OFTEN, IT SWITCHES BACK TO THE FOOT AIR MODE PLUS TURNING ON THE A/C EVERY TIME THE CAR STARTS.
