Hi my Nissan has 120k miles son it and the transmission is completely wrong don’t go more than 30 mph I take it to the shop to inspect and they told me that it need to be replace. It has code p1778 and code p0868 they told me that the transmission has no oil presure that it was a mechanical problem inside the transmission and that it was really common on that car becouse the cvt transmission

The contact owns a 2011 Nissan Altima. The contact stated while driving 35 MPH, the transmission lost functionality with the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact initially took the vehicle to an independent mechanic where they referred her to a dealer since the vehicle was under warranty. The contact then drove to a dealer where they diagnosed the vehicle with transmission failure. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 140,000. The VIN was not available.

My car was all morning in the parking lot of my apartments and it was time to go to work, then i started my car and drive it around 2 minutes of driving it engine light on (always) and the stability light turn on which it never happens. I accelerate because was taking a turn it did not rpm over 2,500 like it need it something so the only way to get up to speed was doing low rpm which can be dangerous when need to turn and cars are coming in front of you and can happen with any notice Nissan need to make it right and fixing their cvt transmission failing so early and deny to fix its problems with its customers.

There is issue with sunroof drainage tubs causing rain to soak the floor of car. This definitely malfunction or inadequate problem with drainage tubs and sunroof parts with Nissans. I took it to the dealership and car collision repair shop and was told this is high reoccurring issue with Nissan sunroofs, but no recalls have been given, and I have to pay out pocket to get fixed. At 1st was told just get the drains cleaned out and you shouldn't have that problem again. The issue has progressed and now I have paid for drains to get unclogged 2x so far in one year and keep happening every time its alot of rain at one time. My only option I'm told is to keep getting drains cleaned and unclogged pay out of pocket or get another car without sunroof. I have gotten this done 2 years in row, that's getting too expensive to pay. That's not fair when you know it's problem with these drains and don't do nothing to fix issues. I like cars with sunroofs and have no control over when it rains. I should be able to have a car in 2025 with sunroof and not have this problem. Please help with this issue with factory sunroofs made in original cars not added. Make better drainage system for sunroofs in Nissan and all cars.

I have complained to Nissan that the dash in the car is literally melting. It started around 2014 when I noticed it was having a sticky texture and because of this it creates a glare in the windshield that makes it hard to see. Over the years it has only gotten worse and the dash is literally crumbling. I read online where they have had this issue before. I have tried to get help locally but I am lost no one will help me. This is a really bad safety issue!

REAR SUB FRAME IS RUSTED OUT AND WILL NOT PASS STATE INSPECTION. YES IT IS AVAILABE FOR INSPECTION. FRAME COULD BREAK AT ANY TIME AND CAUSE A ACCIDENT .

Dash is melting- it is causes an extreme shine reflecting on the windshield and extremely sticky. In the sun, full sun or a cloudy day, it causes a large glare in the direct line of sight. It is very unsafe to drive. It spans the entire dash. There is no escaping the glare during the day.

My car is a 2011 Nissan Altima 2.5 s model. In the last couple of years, my dash board has cracks all over it. My research found out that is an issue also with Lexus and Toyota. I called back Nissan and was told by a supervisor that they will not be helping me with this. Thus the cause of this complaint.

I am sending this email concerning a recall that is affecting my vehicle. I dropped the car off as scheduled on 10-10-22. The initial adviser I spoke with in scheduling the appointment at the Darcars Nissan dealership on Indianola drive in Rockville confirmed the recall repair would be done in a day. However, after dropping the vehicle off, I was informed the repairs would be done in more than a day. Even though they intend to provide the loaner vehicle for a day. Since the repairs will be more than a day, I, as the victim/customer, will be responsible for paying for any extra day of rental for the vehicle while the vehicle is being on recall repaired. I then rejected the assumptive proposal of being responsible for paying for rentals if the repairs take more than a day, which was different from what I was initially told. I drove my vehicle to Nissan to have the repairs done, and the initial discussion upon arrival was a request for me to pay for the diagnosis; I inquired why will I be paying for the diagnosis when my recall was determined to be an electronic issue. However, I told them okay, I will pay for the diagnosis if your diagnosis results indicate the keys are not reading the car system or, as you claim, are not related to the recall. Unfortunately, Darcars could not provide an accurate diagnosis report; instead, they wrote a summary of what they claimed to have done with the vehicle repair process. They also claimed the car could not start, and the repair was done in auto mode. After approximately a week that I had driven my vehicle to Nissan for a recall, I got a call from Nissan, saying the car could not start, and we needed you to authorize us to change the battery. You must also pay for the diagnosis, parts, labor, and key programming. These are the charges; Labor----------------------------------- 149.99 Shop supplies --------------------------- 26.25 DRC document retention charge--------- 1.99 EPA Compliance charge -------------------- 32.

THIS IS AN INCIDENT THAT HAS OCCURRED MULTIPLE TIMES, MOST RECENTLY ON 2/23/15. CAR WOULD NOT START IN COLDER WEATHER. REPLACED BATTERY IN JANUARY OF 2014 FINE FOR AWHILE. HAPPENED AGAIN IN DECEMBER 2014. GOT JUMP START AND TOOK TO REPAIR SHOP. COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT. STARTED FINE FOR SHOP. JANUARY 2015, INCIDENT OCCURRED AGAIN WHERE CAR WOULD NOT START. BROUGHT BACK TO REPAIR SHOP, SAID I HAD A FAULTY BATTERY. BATTERY REPLACED. FEBRUARY 2015, LESS THAN 3 WEEKS AFTER NEW BATTERY PUT IN, CAR STARTS FINE. STOPPED FOR GAS NOT EVEN 2 MINUTES LATER. TRYING TO START CAR AFTER FILLING UP, CAR WILL NOT START. STEERING WHEEL IS IN LOCKED POSITION, BRAKES ARE LOCKED UP, RED LIGHT FLASHING AS ON DASH AS IF THERE IS NO KEY IN THE CAR. LOCKS WERE NOT RESPONSIVE TO EITHER MANUAL BUTTON ON DOOR NOR WITH KEY FOB. IGNITION WOULD NOT EVEN COME CLOSE TO TURNING OVER. NO LIGHTS WOULD TURN ON. CAR WAS JUST DEAD. HAD TO TOW TO REPAIR SHOP, WHERE MECHANIC SAID BATTERY WAS COMPLETELY DEAD. IT WAS BRAND NEW 3 WEEKS AGO!!!! STILL DON'T KNOW THE REAL ROOT OF THE PROBLEM. Vehicle hydroplaned from heavy rain and wet road into a ditch alongside of the main highway & the airbags did NOT deploy. This IS a safety malfunction in the airbag system on a 2011 Nissan Altima.

The dashboard airbag icon has flashed continuously while the car was being driven on two different days, first with the driver as the occupant and again with the driver and a passenger. Both times, a mechanic's diagnostic device found that the passenger airbag sensor malfunctioned. Both times, he did a reset. Nissan recalled 2012 Altimas for airbag problems in vehicles manufactured in June 2011.The car with VIN [XXX] that I write about is a 2011 used Altima that had to be manufactured near that date and was bought on 10/14/12. POSSIBLE CVT TRANSMISSION OVER-HEATING/FAIL-SAFE ISSUE? I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY AFTER DRIVING FOR 2 HOURS AND MY ENGINE STARTED MAKING A 'WHIRRING' NOISE AND I HAD TROUBLE ACCELERATING. THE SPEED LIMIT WAS 70 BUT AS MUCH AS I TRIED TO ACCELERATE, IT WOULD BARELY GET PASSED 50MPH. THIS ALMOST CAUSED AN ACCIDENT WITH A SEMI-TRUCK AS WE APPROACHED A HILL BECAUSE I COULD BARELY GET UP IT. I HAD TO PULL OFF THE HIGHWAY AND LET THE CAR REST FOR A WHILE. I HAD TO DRIVE ANOTHER 2 HOURS TO GET HOME AND AFTER ANOTHER HOUR, IT DID THE SAME THING. SOON AFTER, I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID THE ONLY THING THEY COULD SUGGEST WAS TO GIVE ME A NEW TRANSMISSION! I GOT A SECOND OPINION FROM A TRANSMISSION REPAIR SHOP AND THEY SAID THAT POSSIBLY ADDING A SECONDARY COOLING SYSTEM WOULD HELP BUT THEY COULDN'T GUARANTEE THAT WOULD FIX THE ISSUE. FROM MY RESEARCH, IT SEEMS THAT A REASON FOR THIS HAPPENING IS THAT THE CVT TRANSMISSION PRODUCES TOO MUCH HEAT FOR THE COOLING SYSTEM TO HANDLE AND EVENTUALLY GOES INTO A FAIL-SAFE MODE THAT CAPS THE ACCELERATION POWER OF THE CAR, IN ORDER TO PROTECT THE TRANSMISSION FROM BEING DAMAGED. I COULD UNDERSTAND THE NEED FOR THE FAIL-SAFE TO KICK IN IN EXTREME CIRCUMSTANCES BUT NOT AFTER DRIVING FOR 2 HOURS AT REGULAR HIGHWAY SPEEDS. THIS IS NOT NORMAL AND EXTREMELY AGGRAVATING. I HAVE READ THAT THIS IS A COMMON SAFETY ISSUE WHICH AFFECTS BOTH NEW AND OLDER CARS AND NISSAN CHOOSES TO DO NOTHING ABOUT IT. I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO DRIVE MY CAR MORE THAN AN HOUR ON THE HIGHWAY BECAUSE IT STARTS TO MAKE THAT 'WHIRRING' NOISE AND I KNOW IT WON'T BE LONG BEFORE THE FAIL-SAFE KICKS IN. THIS HAS BEEN BEYOND DISAPPOINTING AND EVEN MORE SO THAT NISSAN WON'T TAKE RESPONSIBILITY TO IMPROVE THEIR CVT ISSUES AND PROVIDE THE NECESSARY REPAIRS. I OWN MY CAR OUTRIGHT BUT THE WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED. NO OPTION FOR THAT ROUTE. VERY INCONVENIENT.

Loud noise from driver-side rear while driving. I discovered the rear crossmember (aka subframe) is badly corroded and there is a complete break/failure of the unit. This is unsafe. I have worked on cars for over 40 years and I have never seen such an inexcusable failure.

The contact owns a 2011 Nissan Altima. The contact stated while her grandmother was driving 70 MPH, the vehicle began to shake forcefully. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The driver was able to drive to an independent mechanic however, the mechanic was unable to diagnose the failure. The contact stated she also experienced the failure on 2013. The contact took the vehicle to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed with needing unknown bolts to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired but was pending repairs. Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 11V371000 (Suspension) however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

AND MULTIPLE GLASS FRACTURE REMOVED FROM HIS BODY AND THE FRONT PASSENGER SUSTAINED A SLIGHT CONCUSSION AND RIGHT ANKLE WAS FRACTURE NEEDING SURGERY. THE VEHICLE WAS DEEMED TOTALED BY THE INSURANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN IMPOUND LOT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED AS OF YET. A DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN INFORMED OF A FAILURE CAUSE. While driving on the highway the steering wheel locked keeping me from maneuvering the steering wheel. Independent service center diagnostics confirmed it was the power steering pump and sensor. Let the vehicle run into the curb. Then power steering fluid is still leaking out. When taken to the dealership they said to take it back to the independent service to have them find out where the leak is coming from. The dealership said it could be the copper screw or another part of the power steering.

TAKATA RECALL , MY 2011 NISSAN ALTIMA 2.5S STARTED HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE STEERING, AND IT MAKES A WEIRD NOISE WHEN I START UP THE CAR

OVER THE PAST COUPLE OF MONTHS THE STEERING IN MY CAR HAS GOTTEN TOUGH. I THOUGHT IT MAY HAVE BEEN THE POWER STEERING PUMP. I TOOK IT TO THE SHOP AND THEY COULDN'T FIND THE PROBLEM, BEING THAT THE POWER STEERING PUMP WAS WORKING PROPERLY AND THE FLUID LEVEL WAS GOOD. YESTERDAY I WAS AT THE GAS STATION GETTING FUEL. AS I WAS DRIVING AWAY, THERE WAS A SOUND SIMILAR TO A BALLOON POPPING AND THE STEERING JERKED TO THE RIGHT, ALMOST HITTING ANOTHER VEHICLE, AND THE STEERING IS SO TOUGH NOW THAT IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE. It started about 2 months ago that the RPM was revving when it came to the gears shifting. I would accelerate and the car would barely move and the transmission was making a whirring sound. The Service Engine Soon light came on so I took my car to O Reilys and the code for the stepper motor came back. I had the stepper motor replaced in my transmission but I am having the same issue. My Mechanic told me that my Transmission is failing and I would need a brand new one.

I was on my way to work driving on the freeway and suddenly I felt a sort of shaking from the car. I then exited the freeway and approached a red light. When the light turned green, my car moved some but then was stalled so I was stuck in the middle of an intersection. Luckily, I wasn’t too far from my job and I was able to eventually ease my way the next few miles. I was later told by a mechanic that it was my transmission that needed to be replaced .

The contact owns a 2011 Nissan Altima. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle was jerking with the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact disconnected and reconnected the battery and the mass air flow sensor to correct the failure. The dealer was made aware of the failure; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that there was no recall associated with the VIN. The contact related the failure to Emissions Recall Campaign Number: R1720 (Non-Methane Organic Gases (NMOG) Engine Control Module (ECM) Reprogram) however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.

I RETURNED THE CAR TO BE SERVICED ON 2/8/2011. I WAS INFORMED BY NISSAN THAT THE SES LIGHT WAS FROM NOT CLOSING THE GAS TANK TIGHT ENOUGH (EVEN THOUGH I STILL HAD NEVER REFUELED THE CAR SINCE I HAD PURCHASED IT). THE LIGHT INDICATOR WAS RESET BY NISSAN SERVICE AND LATER THAT DAY IT CAME BACK ON. ON 6/23/11 I TOOK THE CAR BACK IN FOR SERVICE AND INFORMED THEM OF THE RE-OCCURRING ISSUE WITH THE SES LIGHT. WHEN DRIVING SPEEDS AS LOW AS 25 MILES PER HOUR, THE BRAKES STARTED TO GRAB. I FIRST NOTICED THAT WHEN I DEPRESSED THE BRAKE, WHEN RELEASED, THE PEDAL SEEMED TO STICK, AS IF THERE WERE GUM ON THE BOTTOM OF MY SHOE, PERHAPS STICKING TO THE PEDAL. I CHECKED THE PEDAL AND IT WAS CLEAR. THEN I NOTICED THAT WHEN DRIVING AT SLOWER RATES OF SPEED, AS I EASED ON THE BRAKE, IT SEEMED TO DEPRESS AGAIN, THEN THE BRAKES WOULD GRAB HARDER. TOOK IT TO THE DEALER, THEY SAID IT WAS THE BRAKE BOOSTER--$700 ESTIMATE TO FIX. I DID NOT HAVE AN EXTENDED WARRANTY, SO I TOOK IT TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC, WHO EVALUATED THE ISSUE, AND CAME TO THE SAME CONCLUSION--BRAKE BOOSTER. HE SHOWED ME THAT IT WAS BUSTED. HE WAS CONSIDERABLY CHEAPER, SO I HAD HIM TO FIX THE BRAKE BOOSTER. IT FIXED THE ISSUE THAT I WAS FEELING IN THE PEDAL WHEN STOPPING, HOWEVER, THE BRAKES CONTINUED TO GRAB, EVEN AT SLOWER RATES OF SPEED (<25MPH). AT SLOWER SPEEDS, THE BRAKES GRABBED HARD ENOUGH TO THROW PASSENGERS FORWARD IN THE VEHICLE. HE CONTACTED NISSAN AND FOUND THAT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR MY MASTER CYLINDER, BUT ONLY IF IT WAS LEAKING. MY MASTER CYLINDER DID NOT APPEAR TO BE LEAKING, BUT IT IS QUITE OBVIOUS THAT IT HAS TO BE A FAULTY CYLINDER. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO BRAKING SYSTEM SERVICE BULLETIN. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED WHEN HE RECEIVED THE SERVICE CAMPAIGN AND SERVICE BULLETIN, IN THE MAIL HE WAS NOT EXPERIENCING ANY PROBLEMS. HOWEVER, IN NOVEMBER 2013, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO DISPLAY SOME OF THE IDENTIFYING PROBLEMS ASSOCIATED WITH THE SERVICE CAMPAIGN. THE BRAKE WARNING LIGHT AND TRACTION CONTROL WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. ALSO, THE BRAKES WERE SQUEAKING AND OCCASIONALLY MADE A GRINDING NOISE. THE DEALER INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND VALIDATED HIS COMPLAINT AND THEY REPLACED THE MASTER CYLINDER IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE SERVICE BULLETIN. HOWEVER, WHEN THE CONSUMER LEFT THE DEALER, THE BRAKES CONTINUED TO SQUEAK. THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO ANOTHER DEALER, FOR ITS 45,000 RECOMMENDED SERVICE. FUELING THE VEHICLE HAS HAD INTERMITTENT ISSUES. SOMETIMES THE PUMP WOULD SHUT OFF PRIOR TO BEING FULL AND I WOULD HAVE TO MANUALLY HOLD IT TO GET TANK FULL. TODAY I ATTEMPTED TO FILL THE TANK AND IT WOULD ONLY STAY ON FOR A FEW SECOND AND THEN THE NOZZLE WOULD COME OUT IF THE TANK AND SPRAY GAS ALL OVER. ATTEMPTED TO FILL SEVERAL TIMES WITH THE SAME OUTCOME. I HAD THE GAS STATION MANAGER COME OUT BECAUSE I ASSUMED IT WAS THEIR PUMP THAT WAS THE ISSUE. I NOW ONLY HAVE ENOUGH GAS TO GO 57 MILES.

I GET THE P0101 CODE THAT INDICATES A MASS AIR FLOW ISSUE. WHILE DRIVING THE CAR CUTS OFF, STALLS, SPUTTERS. OFTEN THE CAR CAN BE RESTARTED, BUT IT CONTINES TO STUTTER, OR SHUT OFF. THE ISSUE HAS OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING ON NYC STREETS AND ON HIGHWAYS, USUALLY WHILE DRIVING ON STRAIGHT ROADS. IT HAS ALSO OCCURRED WHILE MAKING A TURN. THE MECHANIC CHANGED THE MASS FLOW SENSOR AND THE VEHICLE WAS FINE FOR A FEW MONTHS. THEN THE ISSUE STARTED AGAIN. THIS REPEATEDLY HAPPENS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR. THE CVT(TRANSMISSION) OF THIS MODEL HAS A HISTORY OF THE TRANSMISSION OVERHEATING AND A WARNING LIGHT COMES ON. THE MANUFACTURER "FIX" TO THIS IS TO PUT IN A COOLING FAN FOR THE TRANSMISSION AT A COST OF $1300. IF THE MANUFACTURERS TRANSMISSION IS KNOWN TO OVERHEAT WHY DOESN'T NISSAN PAY FOR THE COOLING FAN OR FIX AND REPLACE THE CVT TRANSMISSION.

THE SERVICE MANAGER AT THE DEALER TOLD ME THE SENSOR IN THE PASSENGER SEAT IS DEFECTIVE AND THE FIX IS TO REPLACE THE SEAT AT A COST OF $550.00 PLUS LABOR. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? The Engine Control Module (ECM) is malfunctioning, triggering persistent P0101 codes related to the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor. This specific issue is addressed in Nissan Technical Service Bulletin DE97AA, which recommends an ECM reprogramming. The component is still installed in the vehicle and is available for inspection. ⸻ • How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? When the vehicle is at a complete stop and I attempt to accelerate, it becomes jumpy and unresponsive, refusing to accelerate properly. This creates a serious safety hazard, especially when trying to merge into traffic or cross intersections, as I am unable to match the speed of other vehicles. This increases the risk of being rear-ended or causing an accident due to unexpectedly slow acceleration. ⸻ • Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes. An independent mechanic diagnosed the issue and confirmed the code P0101. After reviewing Nissan’s official TSB DE97AA, they advised me to go to a Nissan dealership to have the ECM reprogrammed as outlined in the bulletin. ⸻ • Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? The vehicle was inspected by an independent mechanic, but not yet by the manufacturer. The dealership is aware of the issue but has refused to perform the repair without payment. ⸻ • Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? Yes. The Check Engine Light is consistently triggered by code P0101, and the traction control warning light also comes on when the issue is active. The symptoms appeared recently and continue to recur even after the code is reset.

I brought my car to Florida 2 years ago and notices my dashboard getting very shiny and sticky. Now the dash is cracking in many areas. The glare off the dash board shining on the windshield makes it a dangerous situation. I called Nissan and they said it is a common problem in years 2005-2012 and there is nothing they can do. I googled it and there are many complaints online regarding this problem. A 13 y/o car that was garaged for 11 years in the NE and now parked underneath a parking garage should not have this problem. It is definitely a defect in manufacturing that is causing a safety issue and a diminished value issue.

No incident, but I am prevent one from happening. My C.V.T. Transmission is winning in 1st gear, CVT stands for {continuously variable transmission}. I need to let up on the gas pedal each time it's supposed to shift.. Even if you don't know much about how a transmission works, you have probably heard of the manual and the automatic. The CVT is the newest type of a transmission. It is sometimes referred to as the shiftless transmission and is a type of automatic, a steady RPM constant even if the vehicle is accelerating rapidly in a passing scenario, for example, the CVT knows the optimal engine speed is pretty high (typically around 5,000 RPM or less on the tachometer), so it shifts you up there as soon as you put the gas petal down...In a passing scenario, for example, the CVT knows the optimal engine speed is pretty high (typically around 5,000 or less RPM's on the tachometer), so it shifts you up there as soon as it is ready ! Shifting this car is like its going to exploded !! I had it serviced at Nissan as soon I perchance it.. WILL NOT COVER AND WILL NOT PROVIDE ANY PARTIAL ASSISTANCE. CAR IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION, DRIVEN LIGHTLY AND NO WAY TRANSMISSION SHOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED AT 39,000 MILES. MY TROUBLE BEGAN AS I SAT AND FUELED MY CAR WITH THE SAME TYPE OF GAS THAT I HAVE BEEN USING FOR YEARS. I FILLED MY TANK, STARTED MY CAR AND IT STARTED HUFFING AND PUFFING AS IF IT WAS ABOUT TO SHUT OFF. AFTER A FEW MINUTES IT STOPPED. I HAVE A NISSAN ALTIMA (2011) AND MY SISTER HAS A NISSAN MURANO (2013?). BOTH CARS REMAIN RUNNING WHEN THE "SMART KEY" IS REMOVED. MY CAR BEEPS 3 TIMES IF I GET OUT WITH THE KEY WHEN IT IS RUNNING, BUT NOT MUCH NOTIFICATION. I HAVE NOT HAD A PROBLEM YET, BUT MY SISTER, IN HER 80'S, HAS LEFT HER CAR RUNNING FOR HOURS FREQUENTLY SINCE SHE BOUGHT THE MURANO (AT LEAST 5 TIMES). WE BOTH KEEP OUR CARS IN A CLOSED IN BASEMENT AND IF LEFT RUNNING COULD BE DEADLY. OUR BEDROOMS ARE DIRECTLY OVER THE GARAGE. IT SEEMS LIKE A SIMPLE TIMER COULD BE USED TO TURN THE CAR OFF IF THE KEY IS REMOVED FOR MORE THAN 5 MINUTES. I WAS TRAVELING WITH 2 SMALL CHILDREN ON A STRAIGHT WAY ON HWY AND THE FRONT TIRE BLEW IN THE SIDEWALL OF MY MICHELIN TIRE. I WAS PULLED ACROSS THE OTHER LANE INTO A DITCH STRIKING A STONE CULVERT AFTER GOING AIRBORNE. I HAD PURCHASED A SET OF MICHELIN TIRES AND THEY WERE A 70,000 MILE TIRE AND HAD 23,000 MILES ON THEM WHEN THIS OCCURRED. AFTER INVESTIGATION IT WAS DETERMINED A BLOWOUT AS THERE WAS NO DAMAGE TO WHEEL INDICATION OF ROAD HAZARD THAT WOULD HAVE CAUSED THIS TYPE OF DAMAGE TO TIRE. IN OTHER WORDS, THE TIRE AND WHEEL WERE IN PERFECT CONDITION OTHER THAT THE BLOWN PART IN THE SIDEWALL AND IF I WOULD HAVE HIT SOMETHING HARD ENOUGH TO CAUSE THE TIRE THAT TYPE OF DAMAGE, THEY SAID IT WOULD HAVE DEFINITELY AFFECTED MY WHEEL. THERE HAVE BEEN SEVERAL TIMES THE CAR WAS UNABLE TO START AND UNABLE TO BE SHUT OFF WITHOUT HAVING TO BE TOWED. THEY CLAIMED IT WAS A BATTERY ISSUE, BUT THE CAR ALMOST ACTED LIKE IT WAS ENCOUNTERING A SOFTWARE CRASH BOTH TIMES. I'VE HAD TO HAVE THE EXHAUST / CATALYTIC CONVERTER REPLACED ON THE CAR. I'VE HAD SEVERAL MAJOR STEERING PROBLEMS. AT ONE POINT, A TIE ROD HAD TO BE REPLACED ON THIS CAR. THE LATEST STEERING ISSUE JUST OCCURRED IN THE LAST FEW WEEKS. ON JANUARY 16, I TOOK A ROAD TRIP WITH MY FIANCE AND HER SISTER TO MEMPHIS, TN TO VISIT HER OTHER SISTER. ON THE WAY DOWN WE NOTICED THE CAR WAS DIFFICULT TO STEER. UPON INSPECTION, WE FOUND THE POWER STEERING FLUID WAS LOW. WE REPLACED IT. HOWEVER, WE FOUND IT STRANGE GIVEN THE EXCELLENT MAINTENANCE ON THE CAR. AS WE DROVE, THE STEERING ISSUES RECURRED. WE FIGURED OUT THERE WAS A LEAK IN THE SYSTEM. WE BOUGHT A LOT OF POWER STEERING FLUID IN ORDER TO MAKE IT TO MEMPHIS (THERE WEREN'T MANY MAJOR CITIES ON OUR WAY BETWEEN WHERE WE CAME FROM AND MEMPHIS, SO WE HAD TO GET TO MEMPHIS.) SEVERAL MECHANICS CONFIRMED THE ISSUE WAS THE RACK & PINION SYSTEM ON THE CAR. THE DEALERSHIP THAT ULTIMATELY REPAIRED THE CAR MENTIONED THIS BRAKE WAS HIGHLY UNUSUAL, NOT DUE TO POOR MAINTENANCE, AND NOT DUE TO ROAD HAZARDS. SINCE THE CAR IS NOT OUT OF WARRANTY, I HAD TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR MYSELF. GIVEN THE OTHER MAJOR REPAIRS THAT HAVE OCCURRED IN THE SHORT TIME I'VE HAD THIS CAR, ESPECIALLY GIVEN THE VERY DILIGENT MAINTENANCE I'VE BEEN PERFORMING ON THE CAR AND DESPITE THE MANY MILES ALREADY ON IT, I BELIEVE I'VE BEEN SOLD A LEMON.
